- 1:09Speaker 1: want to miss a thing. If you'd like to connect

- 1:25Speaker 2: Come talk about this show or any of the Hallmark
- 1:29Speaker 2: movies or anything adjacent.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Really, a couple quick things to say about The Way
- 1:33Speaker 1: Home before we jump into our recap. Yeah, I'll start
- 1:36Speaker 1: episode three this week. The episode we're reviewing pulled in
- 1:41Speaker 1: one point four million live viewers, so they're staying pretty
- 1:44Speaker 1: steady with their views there hasn't really dropped off, which
- 1:48Speaker 1: is great. Yes, I'm very happy to see that. I've
- 1:51Speaker 1: seen a lot of good hype from the community, I
- 1:55Speaker 1: would say around the show. I think it's being well received.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I really like it, so I hope others are enjoying
- 2:02Speaker 1: it too, because I want to see it keep going
- 2:05Speaker 1: me too. I hear we have some behind the scenes
- 2:09Speaker 1: news for episode three.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We have a new director in episode three.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And it is Namisha MoU Kourgie. So far, she is
- 2:17Speaker 1: credited with two episodes, so I think we're going to
- 2:20Speaker 1: get episode three and four director right.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And she's an award winning director, writer, and producer. And
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'm just excited to have like a female behind the camera.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Actually, I don't even know show like this. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but side note, I don't know who directed the first
- 2:41Speaker 1: two Grant Harvey. Oh okay, so it was a dude. Yeah.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And Grant Harvey is more of a TV series director
- 2:47Speaker 1: than a movie director, for what it's worth. So looking
- 2:50Speaker 1: at his directing credit, it's a lot of TV series,
- 2:54Speaker 1: which of course is what we're talking about. But I
- 2:56Speaker 1: would say he's not deep in the Hallmark universe.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Was my point there, right, And while Nimisha isn't either,
- 3:02Speaker 2: she is known for her documentaries.
- 3:06Speaker 1: However she's done. She's done shows like Big Shot on Disney,
- 3:11Speaker 1: plus a show that I love of Virgin River, a
- 3:14Speaker 1: couple episodes of that, an episode of a show called
- 3:18Speaker 1: The Imperfects. She is from Canada, so I believe a
- 3:23Speaker 1: lot of these the steps she the work she does
- 3:26Speaker 1: is Canadian. Yeah. Well, let's drop into our recap of
- 3:30Speaker 1: The Way Home episode three. I don't want to miss
- 3:32Speaker 1: a thing. Are you ready for a synopsis?
- 3:34Speaker 2: I am Alice falls in love with the past and
- 3:37Speaker 2: has her first kiss, Kat starts a job with the
- 3:40Speaker 2: local newspaper, and Dell deals with bittersweet memories attached to
- 3:45Speaker 2: Colton's boat.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Alice falls in love with the past. I love that line,
- 3:50Speaker 1: do you I do? I think it's great with what
- 3:52Speaker 1: we know happens in this episode, yes, double meaning, mm hmm.
- 3:56Speaker 1: All right. This episode opens, we have Dell cooking breakfast
- 4:00Speaker 1: and Cat comes in and Dell's gonna Deell. She tells
- 4:03Speaker 1: Kat to look for a job. Kat wants to keep writing.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Dell tells her she needs to prove that she can
- 4:09Speaker 1: make money as a writer. Like that, that little bit
- 4:12Speaker 1: of softening we got at the end of episode two,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's gone. She's back to being hard ass Dell, get
- 4:18Speaker 1: your butt to work, Cat.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I think by the third episode here, I'm a
- 4:22Speaker 2: little bit tired of this conversation, Like, Kat, it's time
- 4:26Speaker 2: to do something now, or Dell, you need to leave
- 4:28Speaker 2: it alone.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But honestly, Kat really needs to do something. You feel
- 4:32Speaker 1: like Dell is right. I do, and I know that's
- 4:35Speaker 1: different from how you feel. Well, I don't feel like
- 4:38Speaker 1: she's wrong. But again, we're three at the timeline. Is
- 4:42Speaker 1: there maybe three days in Yeah, before it takes a
- 4:46Speaker 1: minute to find a new job. I think you're you're
- 4:50Speaker 1: soft and sweet. You're gonna be that mom that lets
- 4:52Speaker 1: your adult children live at your house forever. I think, perhaps, yes,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I am a little I'm a little bit of a softie.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I haven't lived at home since I was seventeen years old.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Alice enters, and she's full of sunshine and she puts
- 5:05Speaker 1: mint in Cat's tea. She's been up early working on
- 5:09Speaker 1: the farm apparently, and she says she's going to quote
- 5:12Speaker 1: head out to hang out with Spencer and Zoe Dunk.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And I don't know about you, but I was like, oh,
- 5:18Speaker 1: she's got friends. I'm so naive you are. I'm thinking
- 5:22Speaker 1: teenager's gonna lie. It was. This was kind of funny
- 5:25Speaker 1: because I s a mom to a fifteen year old.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I would my little radar would be up if she
- 5:33Speaker 2: came in and was chipper.
- 5:34Speaker 1: As Alice was. Something is going on totally well, you know,
- 5:40Speaker 1: Alice says, oh, in time, I found my place again
- 5:42Speaker 1: once again. It's been three days. So while even though
- 5:45Speaker 1: we could make an argument for Cat getting to I
- 5:48Speaker 1: do think it is still early days for Alice to
- 5:50Speaker 1: have found her place among a new group of peers.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So I thought that was funny. But like you, Cat's
- 5:56Speaker 1: radar is peaked and she asks, Dell, are there drugs
- 6:01Speaker 1: here now? Which I thought was so funny, and Lle
- 6:05Speaker 1: tells her to chill. Yeah. See, and this makes me
- 6:09Speaker 1: wonder like Dell being so kind of chill, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: considering that she lost a child or a child who
- 6:18Speaker 1: went missing. Yeah, and she's just so very like, oh,
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's fine, Alice is gonna be fine. Is very sus
- 6:26Speaker 1: to me agree, So I'm curious to see how this
- 6:30Speaker 1: is gonna play out. This mother daughter moment is interrupted
- 6:34Speaker 1: by someone arriving at the farm. We hear voices outside,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and Dell and Kat go outside to investigate. Mm hmmm.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So we have two strangers essentially, and they're like, hey,
- 6:44Speaker 1: we heard about this boat might be for sale, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: we're interested.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And then of course we get a flashback scene Dell
- 6:51Speaker 2: is remembering when Colton brings the boat home and he's.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Like, look at Delli, look at this great boat. He's
- 6:56Speaker 1: like so hyped for it, and she's it's pretty stunned
- 7:01Speaker 1: that somebody wants to take the boat from her. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: first want to say high five to the editing team
- 7:05Speaker 1: in this episode. There are so many great flashbacks interwoven
- 7:08Speaker 1: with these scenes, I think, on a greater volume than
- 7:12Speaker 1: we've seen in the past episodes, and it just lends
- 7:16Speaker 1: so much more information. The pacing in this episode is great,
- 7:19Speaker 1: but Dell's reaction surprised me, not that she was upset,
- 7:24Speaker 1: but she agreed. I think it's time to let her go. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I was a little surprised too, But then again, not
- 7:30Speaker 1: because why did she be holding onto this boat for
- 7:32Speaker 1: so long when she has gotten rid of mostly everything else?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Unless because it's because it's Colton, But I mean she
- 7:43Speaker 1: did get rid of his stuff too, so or that
- 7:46Speaker 1: it's easier to throw away a box full of items
- 7:48Speaker 1: and much harder to ditch a giant boat in a dumpster. Yes,
- 7:53Speaker 1: And to your note about the editing and how great
- 7:56Speaker 1: they like weave in these like memories to give us
- 7:59Speaker 1: like content and everything. Very hard to do when you're
- 8:02Speaker 1: writing notes for a great a podcast. I know nineteen
- 8:05Speaker 1: eighty nine, present day, nineteen ninety nine and present day.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Well this is a flashback, but we're not actually in
- 8:09Speaker 1: ninety nine. Okay, okay, okay, yeah, oh my goodness, gracious,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but it's it's done very well, it is. It's an
- 8:16Speaker 1: enjoyable watch. Yes, And then we get our opening title,
- 8:19Speaker 1: no opening music, nothing, just the way home. Nope. And
- 8:24Speaker 1: Alice the next thing, Alice is in the pond. We
- 8:26Speaker 1: are in nineteen ninety nine, and she comes across the
- 8:29Speaker 1: backpack that Elliott has hidden for her that has dry clothes,
- 8:34Speaker 1: which then solves the problem of her always being wet
- 8:37Speaker 1: when she arrives to Kat's house. Right. Yeah, I wondered
- 8:41Speaker 1: had they had a discussion about that, because you went
- 8:43Speaker 1: right to it, And I originally thought, oh, good job,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you stashed clothes, and then we find out via no
- 8:48Speaker 1: that it's Elliot's doing right exactly, and he picked out
- 8:53Speaker 1: some terrible clothes for her. Actually, I didn't think it
- 8:55Speaker 1: was that bad. It looked like like a moo moo,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I don't know, a prairie dress, but something was wearing
- 9:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. I mean, she had like cute Doc
- 9:06Speaker 1: Martin's on with it and like, uh, it works to me.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But Kat was horrified when she saw it. Kat was like,
- 9:12Speaker 1: what are you wearing? Kat was horrified. So as Alice
- 9:16Speaker 1: walks away from the woods, we hear there she goes
- 9:20Speaker 1: by sixpence None the Rich are playing and I'm gonna
- 9:22Speaker 1: call this our first notice in the nineties moment. It
- 9:24Speaker 1: is background music. But yes, let me I did a
- 9:28Speaker 1: little deep dive on this song. First of all, it
- 9:30Speaker 1: originally came out in nineteen eighty nine by a band
- 9:32Speaker 1: called The Laws there like an English band. It never
- 9:36Speaker 1: really charted here in the States, and then sixpence None
- 9:39Speaker 1: the Richer re released it in nineteen ninety nine horror
- 9:42Speaker 1: movie called snow Day. But for me, this song, how
- 9:46Speaker 1: many times have I watched Gilmore Girls. It is in
- 9:49Speaker 1: the first episode of Gilmore Girls, which also came out
- 9:53Speaker 1: in that two thousand Okay, so it was a hit.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He to that anyway, This is where I see like
- 10:03Speaker 1: a parallel of like two shows. For me, Gilmore Girls
- 10:08Speaker 1: always had excellent music in it, and now we're seeing
- 10:11Speaker 1: this show, which I feel so far has also had
- 10:14Speaker 1: really good music in it. So there are these like
- 10:17Speaker 1: little similarities that I really am enjoying. I agree. I agree.
- 10:24Speaker 1: They're like almost like, you know, Gilmore Girls is kind
- 10:27Speaker 1: of the classic mother daughter drama show. It's almost like
- 10:30Speaker 1: a nod to that show that laid the groundwork for
- 10:33Speaker 1: future shows like this. M agree. And if you've ever
- 10:38Speaker 1: watched and I know this is not a Gilmore Girls podcast,
- 10:40Speaker 1: but if you've ever watched Gilmore Girls as a parent,
- 10:44Speaker 1: it's a totally different story than watching it as a
- 10:49Speaker 1: young adult. We see the boat in nineteen ninety nine first,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and then Alice is greeted by Colton Indel and Kat
- 10:57Speaker 1: calls to her through a window and when she walks
- 10:59Speaker 1: in her and we get that scene Lenny reference where
- 11:01Speaker 1: she says, what are you wearing? Yes? Yes, And the
- 11:04Speaker 1: best part here in this whole scene is something I
- 11:08Speaker 1: did as a teenager and what we see Kat doing
- 11:10Speaker 1: and she is waiting for the song to come on
- 11:12Speaker 1: the radio so she can press a record on her
- 11:15Speaker 1: tape recorder. Loved it to make a mixtape. Alice says,
- 11:19Speaker 1: mixtapes are so vintage and cat and maybe my favorite
- 11:22Speaker 1: line in the show says, this is a CD player
- 11:25Speaker 1: and a tape player. Yeah, man, you were balling with
- 11:28Speaker 1: a CD player and a tape player, just like the
- 11:32Speaker 1: TV that had the VCR built into it too, right,
- 11:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I had one of those.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So of course she's playing Britney Spears Baby Hit Me
- 11:39Speaker 2: One More Time. This was the best selling single of
- 11:41Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine, still hit in twenty twenty three. I
- 11:45Speaker 2: think I think we need some sort of like notice
- 11:47Speaker 2: in the nineties like music when we have these moments,
- 11:49Speaker 2: because that's definitely a notice in the nineties moment for me.
- 11:52Speaker 1: A one hundred percent. And then we have a moment
- 11:56Speaker 1: where Alice picks up Cat's copy of Alice in Wonderland.
- 12:00Speaker 1: This is the second time we've seen this book in
- 12:02Speaker 1: this show. You know, part of me wonders, is it
- 12:05Speaker 1: just an allusion to the fact that Alice is kind
- 12:07Speaker 1: of like through the looking glass, like she's gone back
- 12:09Speaker 1: in time? Or is this book canna have some greater
- 12:12Speaker 1: meaning that we're not fully aware of yet. Yeah, I
- 12:15Speaker 1: don't know.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Well, And also we never have an explanation of like
- 12:20Speaker 2: how Alice was named to Alice. Did Kat name Alice
- 12:24Speaker 2: after the book or did Cat name Alice after the
- 12:28Speaker 2: friend that she had in nineteen ninety nine?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Alice is named after herself because in the first episode,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I remember, she says she named me after me she
- 12:37Speaker 1: had she had been told she was named after her
- 12:39Speaker 1: childhood friend Alice. I know, But why is there no
- 12:42Speaker 1: like connection to the Alice in Wonderland book. Yeah, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: that's a good question. I guess we don't know yet
- 12:47Speaker 1: that there isn't. Yeah, right, And then Elliott comes running
- 12:51Speaker 1: in guys, I got it. And the next scene notice
- 12:55Speaker 1: in the nineties pew peo pew, we hear the dial
- 12:58Speaker 1: up Internet sounds of our youth. Do you remember getting
- 13:01Speaker 1: the AOL CD and the mail? Yes? I do. For me,
- 13:05Speaker 1: it was a hard cell to get my parents to
- 13:07Speaker 1: let me to sign up for it, Like they didn't
- 13:09Speaker 1: know what it was. What are we paying because you
- 13:11Speaker 1: had to pay for a subscription to have AOL? Right,
- 13:15Speaker 1: what are we paying for? So when I was finally
- 13:18Speaker 1: allowed to get AOL and set it up, and by
- 13:20Speaker 1: the way, it took forever, yes, yes, it was a
- 13:24Speaker 1: big day for me too, so I could feel that moment.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I remember I would take the like the phone line
- 13:33Speaker 1: because at that time your it was a dial up modem.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You were using your regular like landline at home. And
- 13:40Speaker 1: I would be on the Internet and somebody would pick
- 13:41Speaker 1: up the phone to use the phone and I'd be
- 13:43Speaker 1: like and it would disconnect me, and I'm like, damn it,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I'm on the Internet. I am high emming. Oh my goodness.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It took me back to hear that modem sound, and
- 13:54Speaker 1: it makes me so sad, like our children will never
- 13:58Speaker 1: understand that. I'll never understand the struggle. They walk around
- 14:01Speaker 1: with a computer in their hands all day. Right, you know. Look,
- 14:04Speaker 1: when I went to college, we had to have a
- 14:06Speaker 1: special card, like a piece of hardware installed in our
- 14:10Speaker 1: computers in order to be able to access the really
- 14:13Speaker 1: cool high speed internet on campus. Like it was no
- 14:15Speaker 1: WiFi was plugged into a wall, and I had to
- 14:18Speaker 1: have like someone from the IT department come to my
- 14:22Speaker 1: dorm room and installed in my computer. And that person's
- 14:26Speaker 1: name was Nick. Alton is a friend of mine to
- 14:28Speaker 1: this day. Oh funny, But I mean the things we
- 14:31Speaker 1: went through to get the Internet. Yeah, it's funny. It's
- 14:35Speaker 1: really funny to be like to hear Kat say something like,
- 14:38Speaker 1: why can't you just call her? Yeah, it was kind
- 14:41Speaker 1: of a new frontier. It was very cool to talk
- 14:43Speaker 1: to people like all over the world, you know. Yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 1: Alice says, Yeah, the Internet is a really big deal.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Where I come from. Next scene, we are back in
- 14:52Speaker 1: present day and Elliott, what's funny? Just one of Kat's lines? Okay,
- 14:57Speaker 1: we are back in present day and Elliott is at
- 14:59Speaker 1: the and Kat is reaching her new book as.
- 15:02Speaker 2: A Laura Ingalls Wilder but with cars, and she is
- 15:06Speaker 2: immediately hung up on which I don't hate it. She's
- 15:09Speaker 2: just trying to get that book deal, but doesn't want
- 15:11Speaker 2: to write the story about Jacob Obviously, Monica comes refills
- 15:15Speaker 2: Kat's coffee. She basically shades her on drinking more coffee
- 15:19Speaker 2: and about drinking alcohol because Kat says something in how
- 15:22Speaker 2: she wants something harder.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But you know they're at a diner. Yeah, it's clearly
- 15:26Speaker 1: the morning, I mean exactly. Wanica says, Oh, I used
- 15:30Speaker 1: to need alcohol on hard days too, which you know,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I don't know, a little too holier than that in
- 15:36Speaker 1: that moment, I agree. Agree. We cut back to nineteen
- 15:39Speaker 1: ninety nine and everyone's standing around the boat, and this
- 15:42Speaker 1: is where we meet young Danny Sawyer and we learned
- 15:44Speaker 1: that my prediction last week was correct. This is a
- 15:47Speaker 1: buddy of Jacob's right bff. Then Kat is on team boat.
- 15:53Speaker 1: She wants this boat to happen. Dell's not totally sold.
- 15:56Speaker 1: She feels like it's I think gonna be a lot
- 15:58Speaker 1: of work. But Colton has a gleam in his eye.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He's got a dream and he's gonna make it happen. Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: that's too much work for me. Like they're like, let's
- 16:06Speaker 1: get this boat and ship shape. I'm like, what, Yeah,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I'm not even a situation. Who's like, I wouldn't even
- 16:11Speaker 1: know where to begin yeah, yeah, you want that to
- 16:14Speaker 1: float on water. Next thing, we have Kat.
- 16:17Speaker 2: She's at the newspaper on the suggestion from Elliott that
- 16:21Speaker 2: she should pitch to work at the newspaper, the local newspaper.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So she's with Byron and they're talking. She's telling him what.
- 16:28Speaker 1: A great like award winning journalist she is and blah
- 16:31Speaker 1: blah blah, and he's like, you're Dell's daughter, right, Okay,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're hired. Yeah, it's such a quick turnaround. He goes, well,
- 16:37Speaker 1: this is kind of a one man operation, but you're
- 16:39Speaker 1: a Dell's kid, Okay, yes.
- 16:41Speaker 2: And it makes me wonder a newspaper or is this
- 16:44Speaker 2: a daily newspaper? Is a one man operation?
- 16:47Speaker 1: I refuse to believe this is a daily newspaper. It
- 16:50Speaker 1: has to be like the community paper that comes out
- 16:52Speaker 1: once a week, right, that that's my guest too. Jump
- 16:55Speaker 1: back to nineteen ninety nine and everyone's on the porch
- 16:57Speaker 1: of the farmhouse and Jacob's like, Alice, why do you
- 17:00Speaker 1: only come around sometimes? I don't know what's happening here,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and they tell him to lay off. But this is
- 17:06Speaker 1: a very sweet scene of Colton playing the guitar. Alice
- 17:11Speaker 1: joins in I really like these musical scenes. I don't
- 17:14Speaker 1: always love a musical scene in the show, but I
- 17:16Speaker 1: really enjoy when Alice is playing, when Colton is playing
- 17:19Speaker 1: and singing.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yes, the way Colton looks at Dell in this scene
- 17:24Speaker 2: when he's singing to her.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'm like, these two were so in love, like they yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 1: it's Yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It brought up a lot of feelings. I was like,
- 17:35Speaker 2: the is very sweet the way he looks at her.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Jump back to the present day and Dell is
- 17:41Speaker 1: delling and is annoyed that Byron has hired Cat Dell.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You wanted her to get a job, Like at a point,
- 17:48Speaker 1: did you really wanted to work at the point? Is
- 17:50Speaker 1: that really what you wanted for? I mean I think so.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I think she was like, you need to give up
- 17:54Speaker 1: this writing gig and do some hard work. I don't know,
- 18:00Speaker 1: not hard work. It is hard work, But I don't
- 18:04Speaker 1: understand Dell's She's like a dog with a bone here,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Yeah, And I think we
- 18:10Speaker 1: can agree that writing a book is different than working
- 18:13Speaker 1: on staff in a newspaper where you're going to have
- 18:15Speaker 1: a steady paycheck, as opposed to writing something that someone
- 18:18Speaker 1: may or may not buy in the future exactly. Well,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Alice returns and Kat notices that she's damp, and I
- 18:26Speaker 1: was like, Alice, girl, you need to leave a towel
- 18:29Speaker 1: behind you. Jump in that one. So when she comes
- 18:32Speaker 1: back she can at least dry off, which she changes
- 18:34Speaker 1: her clothes, But the biggest issue here is her hair.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Her hair is always yes, that too, Yeah, what a drag.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Alice sees the polaroid on the counter and kind of
- 18:45Speaker 1: like freaks out a little bit. But then here's Dell
- 18:48Speaker 1: say that you know, Delle's going to sell the boat,
- 18:50Speaker 1: and Alice is clearly upset about it. Yes, exactly, And
- 18:57Speaker 1: of course, like Cat and Dell don't understand Alice's like
- 19:02Speaker 1: reaction because they obviously don't know what she just has
- 19:07Speaker 1: experienced back in nineteen ninety nine, like the loving family
- 19:11Speaker 1: and they're very together, and Alice says, like, doesn't understand,
- 19:15Speaker 1: like why they don't remember that they used to care
- 19:18Speaker 1: about each other, right, and like what has happened? Yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: so Ken should be happy because she's got her moody
- 19:23Speaker 1: teenager back in this moment exactly, I'm still in the
- 19:26Speaker 1: present day. We cut to the high school. Elliott is
- 19:28Speaker 1: talking to teachers and Alice's never ending pitch to get
- 19:32Speaker 1: him arrested and or fired. She runs up and says,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I found the polaroid, and he says, could you please
- 19:39Speaker 1: stop doing this? Yeah, it's gonna raise too many questions
- 19:43Speaker 1: about their relationship. You know what I mean? Yes, I
- 19:47Speaker 1: mean I think it comes a comic relief. I don't
- 19:49Speaker 1: think there's going to be anything to come of it,
- 19:51Speaker 1: but it is pretty funny. I think I like it.
- 19:54Speaker 1: It's a nice running bit. Alice is worried that Kat
- 19:57Speaker 1: has figured out time travel and Elliott's not. I worried,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but again, great line. He says, keep an eye on
- 20:02Speaker 1: the polaroid. If you pull a Marty McFly and start
- 20:05Speaker 1: to disappear, we have a problem. And Alice has no
- 20:08Speaker 1: idea what he's talking about. She says, you're so old,
- 20:12Speaker 1: quite funny. Has your daughter seen Back to the Future?
- 20:15Speaker 1: She has, Yes, Yes, it's one of my husband's favorite movies,
- 20:18Speaker 1: so my kids have seen it multiple times. But I
- 20:21Speaker 1: just can't be like the flux capacitor. Oh, they would
- 20:23Speaker 1: know that. My kids would know that. I don't know
- 20:26Speaker 1: if kids in general, if it's part of their lexicon.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Thank you. Yes, well, it's funny because I looked back
- 20:33Speaker 1: to see when Back to the Future came out. It
- 20:36Speaker 1: came out movie theaters in nineteen eighty five. Yeah, and Elliott.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I'm guessing is fifteen and nineteen ninety nine, so the
- 20:45Speaker 2: movie had come out fourteen years prize, So I think
- 20:48Speaker 2: that he would be familiar with a Back to the
- 20:51Speaker 2: Future joke, right.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's a classic. Yeah, I agree. Still
- 20:56Speaker 1: in the present day, Cat shows up to the Herald
- 20:59Speaker 1: and Byron hrse her to her desk and it's covered
- 21:01Speaker 1: in a giant stack of books, and he says, yah,
- 21:03Speaker 1: it gives you a little bit of privacy. And she's
- 21:06Speaker 1: pitching all these columns that she wants to write, one
- 21:08Speaker 1: about Mother's and John or Z and Byron's like, well,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I got an assignment for you. You're too new. You
- 21:13Speaker 1: don't get to decide what you're writing about. Here, Kat,
- 21:15Speaker 1: step back a minute, and we got to her interviewing
- 21:18Speaker 1: a farmer about the town's biggest cucumber, which is weird. However,
- 21:24Speaker 1: we will get a voice over later on of her article,
- 21:28Speaker 1: which then I feel ties in ties up the episode nicely. Okay,
- 21:33Speaker 1: we're back in high school now, and Spencer graciously invites
- 21:38Speaker 1: Alice to his sixteenth birthday party.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Now, I'm like, where is Spencer's girlfriend that we have
- 21:43Speaker 2: seen the last two episodes?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Is Zoe his girlfriend? Or are they just buddies? Oh?
- 21:48Speaker 1: Maybe they're just friends. I kind of assumed that they
- 21:51Speaker 1: were boyfriend and girlfriend, but I don't remember exactly. Okay,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I don't know that we've gotten any specific evidence one
- 21:58Speaker 1: way or the other. Okay, So anyway, I think it's
- 22:00Speaker 1: real nice that he invites her to come to the party,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and she's you know, she obviously wants to jump back
- 22:06Speaker 1: in the pond and head back to nineteen ninety nine,
- 22:09Speaker 1: because that's truly like she doesn't even care about present day.
- 22:13Speaker 1: She's really into finding out stuff of the past. You know,
- 22:18Speaker 1: when she says she's found her place, she doesn't mean
- 22:20Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three Porthhaven. Right, She's just on assignment. Right.
- 22:26Speaker 1: We jump back to the Harold and Byron does not
- 22:29Speaker 1: love Kat's first article. He says there's no passion, and
- 22:32Speaker 1: I one hundred percent agree with Byron. Here he says,
- 22:35Speaker 1: you know, it feels like you are you're writing like
- 22:38Speaker 1: you're too good for this town, like you are above it,
- 22:40Speaker 1: and Kat says, she feels like it's a step back,
- 22:43Speaker 1: and I think that's a real shit move. Kat. This
- 22:45Speaker 1: guy gave you a job, right, don't act like these
- 22:48Speaker 1: people are beneath you. You came back home because you
- 22:50Speaker 1: needed a place to go. Yeah, well, I think that's
- 22:52Speaker 1: the umbrella here is that. I think she does.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Think she it was a humbling experience for her to
- 23:00Speaker 2: return home. Yes, right, So the whole scenario of her
- 23:05Speaker 2: coming back home, it feels like a real step back,
- 23:07Speaker 2: considering that she's now divorced and doesn't have a home
- 23:10Speaker 2: and you know whatever. So I mean I think Byron
- 23:15Speaker 2: handled it well. I mean I think he gave her
- 23:17Speaker 2: a piece of humble pie and was like, look, here's
- 23:21Speaker 2: where we are. Yes, show me that you care, is
- 23:24Speaker 2: what he says to her.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Now we're back in nineteen ninety nine. Ali.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I call her Ali because that's what I my shorthand
- 23:31Speaker 2: in my notes.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That's a cat calls her. Okay. So Alice, you know,
- 23:35Speaker 1: emerges from the pond and she climbs on out and
- 23:40Speaker 1: she goes to grab her backpack that's stash, but she
- 23:43Speaker 1: notices that it's dirty and.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Then looks up and sees that the leaves have changed.
- 23:48Speaker 2: She has definitely been gone a while and is confused
- 23:52Speaker 2: because it had only been just a day that she
- 23:56Speaker 2: had been there.
- 23:57Speaker 1: We find out she's been gone for two months, and
- 24:00Speaker 1: she runs to Elliott and realize the pond has the
- 24:03Speaker 1: ability to send you forward in massive leaps of time.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And this is when Elliott journals something that he will
- 24:07Speaker 1: say as adult Elliott, but he writes it as a question,
- 24:10Speaker 1: does the pond decide where Alice goes? And we know
- 24:13Speaker 1: that to be the case that the Pond decides when
- 24:16Speaker 1: and when she's allowed to go and when she will
- 24:19Speaker 1: go to.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Right, So I wonder are we going to be playing
- 24:22Speaker 2: with this timeline like will Allie?
- 24:26Speaker 1: Is it always going to be back? Is it always
- 24:28Speaker 1: going to be now where we're at like or is
- 24:30Speaker 1: that going to be like a sliding scale, you know
- 24:33Speaker 1: what I mean? Yeah?
- 24:34Speaker 2: And I can't remember exactly the first time when Alice
- 24:37Speaker 2: is in Kat's room, she does look at the calendar
- 24:40Speaker 2: and we do say that it's nineteen ninety nine, but
- 24:41Speaker 2: I don't remember if.
- 24:43Speaker 1: We saw what month it was. That's a great point.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if it matters. Alice
- 24:49Speaker 1: is super worried that Kat's going to be mad that
- 24:51Speaker 1: she's been gone for so long. She kind of like
- 24:53Speaker 1: ghosted her basically. So she runs to Kat's bedroom and
- 24:58Speaker 1: she's schizing and she's like, I'm so sorry I should
- 25:00Speaker 1: have texted you. Cat's like, texted, what are you talking about?
- 25:04Speaker 1: But it's so funny, like it's just completely brushed over,
- 25:07Speaker 1: Like what do you be? Like what does that mean? Texted?
- 25:11Speaker 1: I would be like, what are you talking about? I'm
- 25:13Speaker 1: not able to let things go easily. Yeah, I mean either,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and you know that doesn't the fact that Alice is
- 25:19Speaker 1: making mistakes and saying things like texted or that's so retro.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I mean, she's having natural reactions, like that's what she
- 25:25Speaker 1: would say to a friend. She's not used to editing
- 25:27Speaker 1: herself for twenty four years in the past, right.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I was wondering in this in this part of the
- 25:35Speaker 2: show too, I was like, does she purposely leave her
- 25:37Speaker 2: phone behind, because that would be a real tell tell
- 25:40Speaker 2: she had a you know, an Apple iPhone in her
- 25:43Speaker 2: pocket When she.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Yes, I think whether it was on purpose or not,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I think she does so her mom can't track her
- 25:50Speaker 1: because she doesn't want to leave it on the bank
- 25:52Speaker 1: of the pond. She doesn't want to jump into the
- 25:55Speaker 1: pond with it, right, right, And you know, Kat accepts
- 25:59Speaker 1: her apology and and she takes her to a bonfire
- 26:01Speaker 1: at the point and we meet baby Monica for the
- 26:04Speaker 1: first time. She takes her to a party at the
- 26:06Speaker 1: cove You're as a restaurant, it's all right, Yeah, she
- 26:10Speaker 1: takes her to this bonfire and we meet Nick. My brain,
- 26:14Speaker 1: time travel has scrambled it, and I was like, oh,
- 26:15Speaker 1: that's baby Colton. But no, that doesn't make any sense.
- 26:18Speaker 1: So that's Grandpa. That would be just a real mix
- 26:22Speaker 1: of time travel happening there, yes, and would be particularly
- 26:25Speaker 1: problematic because it's instantly clear that Alice is crushing on
- 26:29Speaker 1: Nick exactly. Next scene, we have the return of ritada
- 26:34Speaker 1: best friend Rita. She visits Dale and Dale's working on
- 26:38Speaker 1: her boat, and Rita's excited to have dinner and drink
- 26:43Speaker 1: some wine and hang out like friends do.
- 26:46Speaker 2: But Byron crashes in. Actually he doesn't crash in. He's
- 26:49Speaker 2: coming over to give a set of keys to Cat
- 26:52Speaker 2: for the office. Rita is not happy with his arrival.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Rita's gonna Rida, man, dude, what is her deal? She
- 27:01Speaker 1: rolls her eyes. She is just so over Byron. You know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: when Rita arrived, I kind of had that like Dell's
- 27:08Speaker 1: just not that into Rita moment. She's like, all right,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I mean, I'll take the glass of wine, but Rita
- 27:12Speaker 1: definitely does not want their moment interrupted by new crush Byron. Right,
- 27:17Speaker 1: what's the story there? I don't get it. We're still
- 27:20Speaker 1: in present day and Kat is still working on her
- 27:24Speaker 1: or reworking her article on the cucumber at the point,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and Monica softens here she pours her a drink. They
- 27:33Speaker 1: chit chat.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Now, I'm a little leery of Monaca. I hope her
- 27:38Speaker 2: intentions are good.
- 27:40Speaker 1: So we watched this episode together and immediately when he's like, hmm,
- 27:46Speaker 1: I don't trust it, and my immediate reaction naive that
- 27:49Speaker 1: I am, although I do think it ends up being accurate.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm immediately happy that she's softening and that we these
- 27:56Speaker 1: two are starting to connect a little bit. Right. I'm
- 27:59Speaker 1: happy about it too, I'm just like and moreover, she
- 28:04Speaker 1: Kat does need more friends. Yeah, and Monica even says that, like,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you can't just talk to Elliott. So now we're establishing Okay,
- 28:13Speaker 1: So Kat is getting comfortable and she is making friendships
- 28:17Speaker 1: and creating her own community. I wonder if Monica knows
- 28:24Speaker 1: how Elliott feels about Kat, and feel like Kat relying
- 28:28Speaker 1: on him too much? Isn't fair to Elliott knowing that
- 28:31Speaker 1: he has stronger feelings for her than she has for him.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but then that's like a real shit move if
- 28:36Speaker 2: she's trying to like hook a cat up with that
- 28:40Speaker 2: other dude.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Excellent point, you know. We cut back to Dell and Rita,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and Rita confesses that she's the one who told the
- 28:47Speaker 1: tourists about the bow. And I believe this is the
- 28:49Speaker 1: moment at which Wendy yield stop meddling Rita. She is
- 28:52Speaker 1: too invested, and Delle agrees with me. She does. She says,
- 28:57Speaker 1: stop using me as a charity case. She's pissed. Yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and this scene is real uncomfortable, right, these two women,
- 29:05Speaker 1: mature women yelling at each other, and Byron's like ladies,
- 29:10Speaker 1: Like Rita says, shut up, new guy. Oh so funny.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Obviously that's like a throwback line to a couple episodes
- 29:17Speaker 1: before when when she called him new guy and he's like,
- 29:19Speaker 1: I've been here six years. Yeah, you know whatever. We
- 29:22Speaker 1: cut back to Monica and Kat, and they're bonding over
- 29:24Speaker 1: having teenagers, and at this point they both apologize to
- 29:28Speaker 1: each other. Kat apologizes for acting like the town is
- 29:30Speaker 1: beneath her and Monica apologizes pretending like she has it
- 29:34Speaker 1: all together. And I like that these two are bonding
- 29:37Speaker 1: in this moment. In walks, Andy Wowie Zowie Alert played
- 29:41Speaker 1: by Alex Mullery Junior, who is on the IMDb for
- 29:44Speaker 1: this show, which leads me to believe he's more than
- 29:46Speaker 1: just a casual introduction. He's also on Genny and Georgia,
- 29:52Speaker 1: the PI on Genny and Georgia.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I can't remember his name. It's nice to see him
- 29:56Speaker 2: on another series, agree and Monica here ising Cat to pursue,
- 30:02Speaker 2: like you know you're single, now single lady, Let's let's
- 30:06Speaker 2: get with it.
- 30:07Speaker 1: But Cat's like what oh okay. Cut back to nineteen
- 30:11Speaker 1: eighty nine. They're still at the bonfire and Alice and
- 30:14Speaker 1: Nick are talking, and Nick is talking about the Red
- 30:16Speaker 1: Hot Chili Peppers Californication album Notice in the nineties and
- 30:20Speaker 1: how he thinks that album's really gonna really gonna have
- 30:23Speaker 1: some meaning in the long run.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's funny here. I received a message from
- 30:29Speaker 2: listener Paula about this particular scene. She says, I love
- 30:35Speaker 2: the Red Hot Chili Peppers reference, although it was the
- 30:38Speaker 2: wrong song, and I was like, what do you mean
- 30:41Speaker 2: the reference and the wrong song. She says that Nick
- 30:44Speaker 2: is referencing Californication, which we know, but episode two was
- 30:50Speaker 2: titled Scar Tissue, which came from Californication, So I think
- 30:54Speaker 2: there's just like some disconnect on that episode was named
- 30:59Speaker 2: after the Red Hot Chili Pepper song, but now it's
- 31:02Speaker 2: only this episode that we're getting, like the reference, do
- 31:05Speaker 2: you hear me?
- 31:06Speaker 1: And Alice tells a beautiful story about why she plays music,
- 31:09Speaker 1: and then we get Nick playing the guitar badly. He's
- 31:13Speaker 1: real bad. I have another notice in the nineties moment,
- 31:16Speaker 1: which is Kat is wearing a string of butterfly clips
- 31:19Speaker 1: in her hair. So it's so bad. I heard those
- 31:24Speaker 1: in college. I was in college. I have photosh my goodness,
- 31:31Speaker 1: not the greatest look. So Kat encourages Alice to play
- 31:37Speaker 1: the guitar, and she picks it up and sings an
- 31:40Speaker 1: acoustic version of Britney Spears Baby Hit Me one More Time.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Everybody's excited totally. I was excited. That was a great
- 31:48Speaker 1: version of that song. I know it's so good, and
- 31:50Speaker 1: I was wondering, does Sadie snow? Is she an actual singer?
- 31:52Speaker 1: Is she singing these songs? Right? She's she's gotta be. Yeah,
- 31:56Speaker 1: she's real good. And the cops arrive and everybody runs. Yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 1: but here's a did you see that moment? I know
- 32:04Speaker 1: we don't do that in this this I love it.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Bring it on.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Well, the cops get there and the kids scatter, but
- 32:11Speaker 2: you see there's a.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Full cooler of food, soda, soda. It's not even like
- 32:17Speaker 1: they have like red cups or like anything, you know
- 32:19Speaker 1: what I mean. They're just hanging out. I'm like, why
- 32:21Speaker 1: are they Why would they be in trouble? Yeah, it's
- 32:24Speaker 1: still the sun's still up. Yeah, they're just gathering. And
- 32:29Speaker 1: we cut to the present day where Dell's having flashbacks
- 32:31Speaker 1: of the boat and that's all I have about that
- 32:34Speaker 1: moment me too, Dell remembers Coltman in the boat. Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: it's kind of weird, like there's nothing really going on there.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Still in present day, we cut back to Alice and
- 32:42Speaker 1: Nick and they're hiding from the cops. The sun has
- 32:44Speaker 1: gone down. The cops are not looking for you. You're not
- 32:46Speaker 1: on the lamb. You do not need to hide for
- 32:48Speaker 1: that long. They're done with you. They just wanted to
- 32:50Speaker 1: break up the party.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Yes, and this is a perfect excuse for Nick and
- 32:56Speaker 2: Alice to get cozy and share a.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Smooth and in this one, I'm like, oh, no, Alice,
- 33:03Speaker 1: you're missing Spencer's party, because right before it was about
- 33:06Speaker 1: to be broken up, she was about to leave and
- 33:08Speaker 1: jump in the pond and head back to Spencer's party.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Right, And so Kat invites Alie to spend the night
- 33:14Speaker 2: and Elliot's like.
- 33:15Speaker 1: What are you doing? Like you need to go home,
- 33:17Speaker 1: You got to.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Go home, and she's like, no, I'm choosing to stay,
- 33:21Speaker 2: regardless of the trouble she's going to get into in
- 33:24Speaker 2: present day.
- 33:25Speaker 1: And here you have a real problem because she has.
- 33:28Speaker 2: To explain her absences in nineteen ninety nine as well
- 33:32Speaker 2: as present day.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Yes, although I do think it's easier to say I
- 33:36Speaker 1: have to go home to Kat than it is to
- 33:39Speaker 1: explain to her mother why she was out all night. Inexactly,
- 33:42Speaker 1: you know where to be found, yes, exactly. Alice and
- 33:45Speaker 1: Kat are in their jammies gods, thinking about the kiss.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Being fifteen year old girls and Alice very humorously wonders
- 33:52Speaker 1: if he's her boyfriend now, and Kat's like, well, I
- 33:55Speaker 1: have a boyfriend. And here's our first nineteen ninety nine
- 33:57Speaker 1: mention of Braden slash Brady.
- 34:00Speaker 2: A couple of things, sir, Why do you think they
- 34:03Speaker 2: have nicknames for all of these characters.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Oh, it's no, it's it's a little bit confusing for me,
- 34:12Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Okay, because we have his name's Bryden, but I call
- 34:16Speaker 2: him Brady. We have Dell who is obviously Delilah and Deli.
- 34:21Speaker 2: We have Alice who's Ali, and Kat and Catherine.
- 34:24Speaker 1: It's just like a lot of it's it would be.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Confusing for a person to come in who didn't know
- 34:30Speaker 2: who these characters were.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's interesting to me. It just kind of warms
- 34:34Speaker 1: the characters up that they all because that's real life,
- 34:37Speaker 1: that everyone has these nicknames for people. True, I think,
- 34:41Speaker 1: but because there's so much going on, it can be
- 34:44Speaker 1: a little bit confusing. Yes.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I also want to mention that this scene with Cat
- 34:51Speaker 2: and Alice as teenagers being in I think they're up
- 34:55Speaker 2: in the Elliott's treehouse or loft or whatever they're in.
- 34:59Speaker 2: But this with the two of them laying there in
- 35:01Speaker 2: bed and just talking really took me back to being
- 35:05Speaker 2: a teenager and those moments like being with your best
- 35:08Speaker 2: friend and you're talking in bed before you go to sleep,
- 35:11Speaker 2: and the giggles and the ah, such a good time.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I was like, this is definitely what best friends do
- 35:18Speaker 2: right at this point, and they share secrets. Kat shares
- 35:22Speaker 2: the secret of meeting this boy and how you know
- 35:25Speaker 2: he's a secret from the family because she's worried that
- 35:29Speaker 2: Dell won't like him or his family because they come
- 35:34Speaker 2: from money. And she asks Alice, like, do you have
- 35:39Speaker 2: secrets in here? Alice takes a beat and tells her
- 35:42Speaker 2: that she can time travel, and.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Of course Kat thinks she's joking, which is the correct response, right,
- 35:49Speaker 1: because what are you going to be like? Okay, cool,
- 35:51Speaker 1: cool coo cool night. Yeah. So now we're back in
- 35:54Speaker 1: present day and Alice is running through the farm early am,
- 35:59Speaker 1: trying to get home, so nobody you know, had missed her.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Come on, this doesn't make any sense to me. Go ahead,
- 36:05Speaker 1: and I'm gonna I'm gonna point out this is where
- 36:07Speaker 1: Meghan's gonna Meghan and I would too, trust me. So
- 36:11Speaker 1: Dell sees Alice running through and she's like, hmm, that's weird.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And Alice climbs into her room, gets back in bed
- 36:19Speaker 1: with wet hair, with wet hair, and she texts Spencer
- 36:24Speaker 1: and says like, you know, sorry for flaking on the party,
- 36:26Speaker 1: blah blah blah whatever. Kat come comes in and compliments her,
- 36:31Speaker 1: or she basically is like, oh you're you're still in
- 36:33Speaker 1: bed and this is where Meghan went yesterday when we
- 36:36Speaker 1: were watching together. What cat's not waiting up for this kid? Right?
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, especially so she went missing like just days before.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Also, yeah, when I was a teenager, I had to
- 36:48Speaker 1: my dad would wait up for me, and if for
- 36:49Speaker 1: some reason they didn't wait up, I had to go
- 36:51Speaker 1: in and wake my parents up when I came home.
- 36:53Speaker 1: There was no like sneaking in going to my room
- 36:56Speaker 1: and they didn't know if I was home or not. Right,
- 36:59Speaker 1: come on, I know you say like I'm being Megan here,
- 37:02Speaker 1: but are you letting your fifteen You're going to bed
- 37:04Speaker 1: and you don't know where your fifteen year old is
- 37:05Speaker 1: and you're just like, eh, she'll show up. No, Maybe
- 37:10Speaker 1: we could say like, oh, she believed her to be
- 37:12Speaker 1: at Spencer, so she figured she was fine and she
- 37:15Speaker 1: just went to bed, but I don't buy it. Yeah,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I understand well.
- 37:19Speaker 2: And on top of that, she had Monica telling her like, hey,
- 37:22Speaker 2: she's safe at my house.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yes, don't worry about it. It's all good. So I
- 37:26Speaker 1: mean there's.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Some built in backstory there of like maybe she wasn't
- 37:31Speaker 2: tracking her on Life three sixty to.
- 37:32Speaker 1: See you like where she was at. But yes, as
- 37:35Speaker 1: a mom to a fifteen year old, I am likely
- 37:38Speaker 1: making sure she's snuggled into her bed at night. Yes.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Anyway, it's just someone to point out here, I really
- 37:46Speaker 2: really love the bedspread.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Alice's bed here. It's real cute.
- 37:52Speaker 2: But anyway, here we go, Kat's like complimenting her and
- 37:55Speaker 2: telling her how how great she's doing import Haven. Remember
- 37:58Speaker 2: it's only been like three or four, four or five days.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah at this point, and that Alice is really building
- 38:06Speaker 1: her trust back in her mom. And then Kat leaves,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and you see Alice feels real guilty. She does. And
- 38:13Speaker 1: prior to this, when she came in, we saw a
- 38:16Speaker 1: bunch of texts from Spencer. Are are you are you?
- 38:20Speaker 1: Are you coming? Are you running late? And she lies
- 38:23Speaker 1: and says that she was sick. Right now, I kind
- 38:26Speaker 1: of like saw this like foreshadowing moment when we see
- 38:29Speaker 1: Monica talking to Kat in the diner about how Spencer's
- 38:32Speaker 1: hosting this party and Alice is there. I suspect that
- 38:35Speaker 1: this was going to blow up in her face. Well,
- 38:37Speaker 1: suare like, you can't ever count on teenagers not running
- 38:41Speaker 1: into your parents somewhere. You got to cover your bases, right,
- 38:45Speaker 1: especially at small town exactly. And Spencer and Alice don't
- 38:49Speaker 1: have that kind of relationship to be like, oh, I
- 38:51Speaker 1: got to go do something else. But if you see
- 38:52Speaker 1: my mom, tell her that I was at your party. Yeah, no, No,
- 38:56Speaker 1: we're in the kitchen. We're still talking about the damn boat. Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Alice still wants Dell to keep the boat, and we
- 39:00Speaker 1: get a flash forward to Colton on the boat. We
- 39:03Speaker 1: find out where the scratches on the boat came from. Us.
- 39:05Speaker 1: He kind of crashes into the dock as it were,
- 39:08Speaker 1: and he says, I can't find him. He's gone. We
- 39:11Speaker 1: have to be talking about Jacob, right, we have to assume. However,
- 39:14Speaker 1: there's a line in a minute. Mmmm, that's confusing to me. Okay,
- 39:19Speaker 1: But we finally get another softening of Dell and she says, Kat,
- 39:24Speaker 1: you're a good Mom, you're doing a good job. Yeah, finally, Yeah, God, mom,
- 39:29Speaker 1: what do I have to do? No? Kat definitely needed
- 39:31Speaker 1: some reassurance here, I think, and Dale did need to
- 39:35Speaker 1: realize that Alice is her granddaughter. She has a parent here,
- 39:40Speaker 1: so she has to relinquish some of those you know,
- 39:44Speaker 1: parenting moments to her actual mother. Yes. Alice runs into
- 39:49Speaker 1: mister Augustine school and says, when are you going to
- 39:51Speaker 1: tell me that the pond can send me ahead in time?
- 39:54Speaker 1: And he doesn't really want to meddle with what she
- 39:56Speaker 1: knows and what she doesn't know. Yeah. Then we get
- 39:59Speaker 1: Monica and Cat back at the point, and inlocks Andy again,
- 40:03Speaker 1: who introduces himself again they just met last night? Yeah,
- 40:05Speaker 1: like really, But Monica's like, given the big obvious mime like,
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'm your number, right? They all clock that, and Kat
- 40:14Speaker 1: has Andy your number exactly, she writes it down on
- 40:18Speaker 1: a nap can give me your phone? Weird Spencer arrives
- 40:23Speaker 1: at the point and this is when Alice is lie
- 40:27Speaker 1: all falls apart because Kat says, hey, thanks so much
- 40:29Speaker 1: for including Alice and your party, and he's like, oh, yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 1: too bad she couldn't come. Well yeah, did he seem
- 40:35Speaker 1: annoyed to you. Yes, that's why I'm like, I don't
- 40:38Speaker 1: think that's his girlfriend. Yeah, that's what I'm wondering if, like,
- 40:41Speaker 1: is he crushing on her a little bit? Like truly,
- 40:45Speaker 1: why would he text her so many times like are
- 40:47Speaker 1: you coming? Are you coming? Are you? Why are you here?
- 40:48Speaker 1: Is everything okay? Blah blah blah blah. You know, yeah? Agree?
- 40:53Speaker 1: I can where they were holding hands though in the
- 40:55Speaker 1: first episode, Okay, but I can't. I can't recall well.
- 40:59Speaker 1: It also just being like he's trying to reach out
- 41:01Speaker 1: and feels like, hey, I was being a good dude
- 41:04Speaker 1: and you're not being a good dude in return, especially
- 41:09Speaker 1: because Alice is not terribly well liked at the school.
- 41:12Speaker 1: So Spencer's kind of going out on a limb by
- 41:15Speaker 1: extending this alive branch. Right, And now this is the
- 41:19Speaker 1: moment I hate because Monica knows that Cat has been
- 41:21Speaker 1: led to they had this bonding moment, and she knows
- 41:24Speaker 1: that Cat trusted her daughter and boom, that did not
- 41:28Speaker 1: go well. So you don't like this scene because you
- 41:32Speaker 1: don't want Monica to know. I don't dislike this scene.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I just felt secondhand embarrassment for Cat because at another
- 41:39Speaker 1: parent found out that my kid were lying to me
- 41:42Speaker 1: that I was the last to know. I'd feel not great. Yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 1: I hear you, I hear you. Cut back to the kitchen,
- 41:50Speaker 1: Alice is singing Brittany at the table. Dell announces she's
- 41:53Speaker 1: gonna keep the boat, and Alice says, I'm gonna go
- 41:56Speaker 1: meet up with Spencer and Zoe and Cat does not
- 41:59Speaker 1: bust her. This is a cool move by mom. Yeah,
- 42:03Speaker 1: I don't have any chill, like like, no, you're not
- 42:07Speaker 1: where were you must totally I would have rusted that
- 42:10Speaker 1: door down and be like, young lady, represent no chill. Well,
- 42:15Speaker 1: she's definitely well. At this point, I was like, oh,
- 42:17Speaker 1: she's trying to set Alice up to, you know, expose
- 42:22Speaker 1: her cards or whatever. Anyway.
- 42:25Speaker 2: But during this scene too, Cat shows Dell the article,
- 42:28Speaker 2: the new article that she had written about the cucumber,
- 42:31Speaker 2: and we have this voice over cats Cat's basically it's
- 42:34Speaker 2: her voice reading the article and they're talking about trust
- 42:39Speaker 2: is what it comes down to.
- 42:40Speaker 1: He didn't set out to grow the biggest cue number.
- 42:43Speaker 1: He just trusted the sillial I don't know whatever. The
- 42:47Speaker 1: main theme there is about trust. And now we have
- 42:50Speaker 1: Cat who doesn't trust Alice anymore, so she is following
- 42:55Speaker 1: Alice out to the pond. You know, I also see
- 42:59Speaker 1: in that moment, and in addition to that article being
- 43:01Speaker 1: about trust, a little bit about you know, Kat wasn't
- 43:05Speaker 1: necessarily expecting to find happiness or a place at home.
- 43:10Speaker 1: She was coming home as a last resort. And I
- 43:12Speaker 1: think with the connection to Monica, with giving her number
- 43:16Speaker 1: to Andy, she's with having a job, She's starting to
- 43:19Speaker 1: feel like even what she planned to do is turning
- 43:23Speaker 1: into something different.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Right now, before moving on, what is your line that
- 43:27Speaker 2: you didn't like something about the boat?
- 43:31Speaker 1: I think it happens when Dell tells Kat that she's
- 43:34Speaker 1: a good mom and they're on the boat and they're
- 43:36Speaker 1: talking about Alice and Alice kind of pressuring Dell to
- 43:40Speaker 1: keep the boat, and Kat says she doesn't know. We
- 43:43Speaker 1: never took the boat out. Okay, yes, but we see
- 43:47Speaker 1: Colton on the boat now. It could be that the
- 43:50Speaker 1: only time the boat was taken out was to look
- 43:52Speaker 1: for the him in that moment that we see, which
- 43:56Speaker 1: we assume is Jacob, but we don't know and Kat
- 43:58Speaker 1: doesn't know about it, or is there something else going on?
- 44:02Speaker 1: Right That's what I don't know. That's yes, could be nothing,
- 44:05Speaker 1: got it totally understand. So now we see Kat sees
- 44:09Speaker 1: Alice jump into the pond and Alice does not come
- 44:13Speaker 1: back up. So Kat's like, what the help? Well, she
- 44:16Speaker 1: doesn't say what the hell, but she like runs down
- 44:18Speaker 1: to the pond yelling her name, yelling her name, and
- 44:21Speaker 1: then jumps into the pond after her. And the question
- 44:26Speaker 1: is is it clever editing or does Cat really not
- 44:29Speaker 1: come back up? Well, I saw the preview for next week. Oh,
- 44:34Speaker 1: Kat is back in nineteen ninety nine, so when we
- 44:37Speaker 1: were watching this, I was like, this is really gonna
- 44:40Speaker 1: mess up the space time continuum if she runs into
- 44:42Speaker 1: her younger self. Totally. Everything we know about time travel says,
- 44:45Speaker 1: do not meet your younger self. So we shall see.
- 44:51Speaker 2: But what I like about it is now we don't
- 44:53Speaker 2: just have Alice's line or storyline of her returning to
- 44:58Speaker 2: the past. Now we have returning to the past, and
- 45:01Speaker 2: so it's going to open this whole new chapter.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I feel like, yes, that's a great point, and I
- 45:08Speaker 1: think I like that we're gonna get Cat in on
- 45:11Speaker 1: this secret because it's not sustainable for Alice to continue
- 45:15Speaker 1: to time. She can't keep disappearing, right, and so they
- 45:19Speaker 1: both have motivation to want to return to the past
- 45:22Speaker 1: for different reasons, and so hopefully they can work as
- 45:25Speaker 1: a team. Well, I think Kat's biggest motivation would be
- 45:29Speaker 1: to obviously not lose her brother, yes, or find out
- 45:34Speaker 1: what happened exactly.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Now, speaking of what happened last week, I did put
- 45:40Speaker 2: a pole on our Girls Gone Homer, Yes, Instagram, Now
- 45:45Speaker 2: are you interested in hearing?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Why are people what people think happened to Jake?
- 45:51Speaker 2: Very Here are some responses, and I'm going to tell
- 45:55Speaker 2: you they're all very similar. He is in another time,
- 45:59Speaker 2: he's try travel or two. He jumped into the lake.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Obviously he ended up.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Oh, he ended up with Jamie and Clare from Outlander.
- 46:07Speaker 1: I don't watch that show. It's a joke that I
- 46:09Speaker 1: don't give.
- 46:09Speaker 2: He's trapped in time travel and can't figure out how
- 46:12Speaker 2: to get back. He fell into the pond, and he's
- 46:14Speaker 2: in the future somewhere. They're basically all the same.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And then there's two very dark ones.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Oh he was kidnapped, huh, child abduction.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I'm like this would take a real turn. Yeah, which,
- 46:30Speaker 1: to be fair, it could be any of these things, right,
- 46:33Speaker 1: It was there one second and he wasn't the next.
- 46:36Speaker 1: So where I may go?
- 46:37Speaker 2: Is it more likely he was abducted traveling back.
- 46:41Speaker 1: To nineteen right when he can't go out exactly, I'm
- 46:48Speaker 1: gonna side up with abduction. It's not a bad not
- 46:52Speaker 1: a bad choice. There. Let's talk about our homie of
- 46:55Speaker 1: the week. Yes, ma'am, we are a warning this week's
- 46:59Speaker 1: homie of the week to one miss Monica for making
- 47:03Speaker 1: the first move breaking the ice with Kat reconnecting these
- 47:06Speaker 1: two old friends. What I'm curious to see, though, is
- 47:10Speaker 1: when we meet young Monica in the past. She is
- 47:14Speaker 1: the first Monica that we meet. She's kind of shady.
- 47:18Speaker 1: So when are we going to see them become friends
- 47:22Speaker 1: in the past.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I don't know, because they clearly don't like each other
- 47:26Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety nine.
- 47:27Speaker 1: No, they did not seem to, but right so did
- 47:30Speaker 1: they always have this sort of antagonistic relationship or do
- 47:34Speaker 1: they become real friends? That's what I'd like to see
- 47:36Speaker 1: about Monica. You are our homie of the week, played
- 47:40Speaker 1: by Samora Smallwood. Thank you for listening to this episode
- 47:44Speaker 1: of Girls Gone Hallmark. If you enjoyed these episodes, we'd

- 47:55Speaker 1: be back next week with another movie review and episode

- 48:01Speaker 2: Thanks really, Gen, Bye bye,
