Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey
- 0:03Speaker 1: and it's time right now for today's word. Release the hurt,
- 0:08Speaker 1: refuse the revenge. Genesis 50, 15 and then verse 19.
- 0:14Speaker 1: When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said,
- 0:18Speaker 1: what if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays
- 0:21Speaker 1: us back for all the wrongs we did to him?
- 0:24Speaker 1: But Joseph said to them, don't be afraid. Am I
- 0:27Speaker 1: in the place of God? Have you ever been hurt
- 0:29Speaker 1: so deeply that you thought one day they're going to
- 0:32Speaker 1: get what they deserve? Maybe somebody betrayed you, lied on you,
- 0:35Speaker 1: took advantage of your kindness or tried to sabotage something
- 0:39Speaker 1: God was doing in your life. And if we're honest,
- 0:42Speaker 1: sometimes the hardest part isn't what they did. It's watching
- 0:46Speaker 1: them go on with their lives while you're still trying
- 0:48Speaker 1: to heal from what happened. But today, I want to
- 0:51Speaker 1: remind you of a powerful lesson from Joseph. You don't
- 0:55Speaker 1: have to get even when God is teaching you how
- 0:57Speaker 1: to Joseph knew what betrayal felt like. His own brother
- 1:02Speaker 1: sold him into slavery and he endured years of hardship
- 1:06Speaker 1: far away from his family. Imagine the pain, the disappointment,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and the questions he must have carried. The very people
- 1:12Speaker 1: who should have protected him were responsible for his suffering.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But Joseph's story didn't end up in a pit or
- 1:18Speaker 1: a prison. God elevated him to a position of authority
- 1:22Speaker 1: in Egypt. And during a famine, the same brothers who
- 1:25Speaker 1: betrayed him came before him needing food. Now, Joseph had
- 1:29Speaker 1: the power to retaliate. He could have humiliated them, punished them,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and made them suffer the way that he had suffered.
- 1:36Speaker 1: But instead, he chose a different response. He recognized that
- 1:40Speaker 1: he was not God and he refused to take God's place.
- 1:44Speaker 1: As the judge, Joseph understood something we all need to learn.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Forgiveness is not pretending the hurt never happened. It's choosing
- 1:52Speaker 1: not to let the hurt control what happens next. See,
- 1:55Speaker 1: forgiveness doesn't mean what they did was acceptable. It doesn't
- 1:58Speaker 1: mean trust must be restored overnight. And it doesn't require
- 2:02Speaker 1: you to remain in a harmful situation. You can forgive
- 2:06Speaker 1: someone and still establish boundaries. you can release bitterness while
- 2:09Speaker 1: allowing people to be responsible for their actions. The truth
- 2:13Speaker 1: is holding onto resentment can keep you emotionally tied to
- 2:17Speaker 1: the very people you're trying to move beyond. But when
- 2:20Speaker 1: you place the hurt in God's hand, you make room
- 2:23Speaker 1: for him to work in your heart. Joseph didn't allow
- 2:26Speaker 1: his brother's betrayal to destroy the purpose God had for
- 2:29Speaker 1: his life. And you don't have to allow someone else's
- 2:32Speaker 1: wrongdoing to determine your future either. Maybe today the hardest
- 2:36Speaker 1: thing God is asking you to do is to forgive.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You may have to do it one prayer at a time,
- 2:41Speaker 1: one day at a time. Start by asking God to
- 2:44Speaker 1: help you release what you can't change and to heal
- 2:47Speaker 1: what you can't fix on your own. Don't let the
- 2:50Speaker 1: people who hurt you take up permanent residence in your heart.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Release the revenge, surrender the bitterness, and trust God with
- 2:57Speaker 1: the justice. Your healing matters, your peace matter, and your
- 3:01Speaker 1: future is too important to remain chained to yesterday's pain.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Come on, Jesus. Father, you know the people. who have
- 3:08Speaker 1: hurt us in the wounds we still carry. Give us
- 3:11Speaker 1: the strength to forgive even when forgiveness feels unfair. Help
- 3:14Speaker 1: us to release the desire for revenge and trust you
- 3:17Speaker 1: with what we can't control. God, heal our hearts, restore
- 3:20Speaker 1: our peace, and teach us to establish healthy boundaries without bitterness.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Don't allow someone else's wrongdoing to poison the purpose you
- 3:28Speaker 1: have for our lives. Help us to walk in love, wisdom,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and freedom in Jesus' name. That's your word for today.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Take it, apply it to your everyday life, and you
- 3:37Speaker 1: continue to be encouraged and inspired. It's your early morning
- 3:40Speaker 1: praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
