- 0:00Speaker 1: I am the Berserker Blows are of the immortal shock
- 0:06Speaker 1: rock Kings of the Universe War and we're coming.
- 0:11Speaker 2: We're gonna play the Good Things Spestival. Good Thanks, Good
- 0:14Speaker 2: Things in Australia. I think that's what good things. Yeah,
- 0:18Speaker 2: it's good things.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's good Thief and today thanks for joining us today,
- 0:21Speaker 3: rather pleasure to speak with you. Yeah, man, sometimes you say,
- 0:25Speaker 3: Gar have just been an abscest part of this year's
- 0:28Speaker 3: Good Things Festival, which picks off in the Melbourne of
- 0:30Speaker 3: December the fifth, and it's kidn't he and Brisbane of
- 0:32Speaker 3: the consecutive days? That's pretty close to Christmas? Might he
- 0:35Speaker 3: going to be bringing a stack full of goodies with
- 0:37Speaker 3: you for the kiddings?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well, uh, you know, mostly when it comes to Christmas,
- 0:44Speaker 2: we don't really hand out gifts as much as we
- 0:46Speaker 2: take them. Gar is a sort of keeping alive that
- 0:52Speaker 2: horrible tradition that the Dutch have black people. Can you
- 0:55Speaker 2: believe that they did that? Who do these people think?
- 0:59Speaker 2: They are? Absolutely racist? I will tell you, but seriously,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I mean, that's what we do. We kidnap children and
- 1:07Speaker 2: we stuffed them into stockings, and we turned them into
- 1:11Speaker 2: coal and all of that stuff. And then we, uh,
- 1:14Speaker 2: I don't know, run off with them to Morocco or
- 1:15Speaker 2: something like that. But yeah, War's not big on Christmas.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We are friends with Crampus though he's a bud.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But do me a favorite. If you happen to come
- 1:25Speaker 3: across my kids and your kidnap them, die, worry about returning.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I'm okay, just tell you.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I know that's right. That's what they always say Australian kids.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Nobody wants them back, No good things.
- 1:36Speaker 3: That's a pretty diverse line up this CFI with yourselves.
- 1:38Speaker 3: There's tool ways of Garbage, machine Head refused, there's a
- 1:42Speaker 3: lot of different sorts of bands by it. But what's
- 1:44Speaker 3: your opinion on festivals? Should they have a wide range
- 1:47Speaker 3: of music and genres or even more of a traditionalist
- 1:49Speaker 3: than think it should be bruttle start to finish?
- 1:52Speaker 2: Now, I have always liked you know, look, I don't
- 1:55Speaker 2: know what happened in the world. It used to be,
- 1:57Speaker 2: especially in punk rock, right, like you go in the
- 2:01Speaker 2: old days, and well by the old days, I mean
- 2:03Speaker 2: you know, the eighties and nineties, Like you'd go to it,
- 2:06Speaker 2: you go see the butthole Surfers, you'd go see Gwar,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you'd go see. I don't know, loving rockets whatever, right
- 2:16Speaker 2: and and nobody thought anything of it. It's not like,
- 2:19Speaker 2: oh everything's so different, it's gotta all be the same.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I love that. I love it when it's just good, underground,
- 2:27Speaker 2: alternative ish, although now it's I don't know, it's hard
- 2:31Speaker 2: to even say what the hell it is. But I
- 2:33Speaker 2: mean a bandlike Tools definitely kept it real, you know,
- 2:35Speaker 2: machine Head, Weezer, all these band it's gonna be great.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I love having a wide range of bands. I mean,
- 2:49Speaker 2: keeps me interested anyway.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I don't it's fanta say that I'm the gar are
- 2:54Speaker 3: gonna be the most out there and reckless and cool
- 2:58Speaker 3: looking band at the whole festival my life. Do you
- 3:00Speaker 3: think these trying crams or the people and good things
- 3:03Speaker 3: are ready for what cause can to deliver?
- 3:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean they loved it last time
- 3:07Speaker 2: that that that the band went down there, and you know,
- 3:10Speaker 2: uh Odorous said we took a swipe at Tony Abbott.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Everybody got all upset boohoo. But you know, I don't
- 3:18Speaker 2: even know what's going on. Uh politically in Australia. Now
- 3:22Speaker 2: we've been very good, We've got our own problems. Here
- 3:25Speaker 2: to worry about, and so you know, we're kind of
- 3:30Speaker 2: not paying attention. But I think that I think Australians
- 3:36Speaker 2: English speaking people they're gonna love War. War is a
- 3:41Speaker 2: band that is funny. That's the difference. And let me
- 3:45Speaker 2: be clear about that. You go see a heavy metal band,
- 3:49Speaker 2: I don't know, you just you don't go see a
- 3:52Speaker 2: lot of heavy metal bands, and everybody that you look
- 3:54Speaker 2: at is smiling, they're laughing, they're having a good time.
- 3:58Speaker 2: They can't believe what they're seeing. They feel inspired to
- 4:01Speaker 2: go do something creative themselves. That's what warried. That is
- 4:05Speaker 2: what War is.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I think of the one of the best things
- 4:11Speaker 3: about festivals. But is it people get the chance to
- 4:13Speaker 3: see bands that I might not otherwise go and check out.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So today someone's gotten the good thing from that night
- 4:18Speaker 3: night too much about War? What three songs of your
- 4:20Speaker 3: should they listen to in order to get to know
- 4:22Speaker 3: the band of bit better?
- 4:24Speaker 2: Hey, I think I think the newest one, A Lot Lizard,
- 4:28Speaker 2: is a good place to start. Uh A Lot Lizard,
- 4:33Speaker 2: Uh go back and check out uh this toilet Earth,
- 4:40Speaker 2: the song I mean gorgor Great Tune and uh you
- 4:47Speaker 2: know those are two that I would recommend and maybe
- 4:50Speaker 2: maybe Solomonizer or maggots are falling like rain something one
- 4:54Speaker 2: of the classics.
- 4:57Speaker 3: The coastumes are awesome, but they also look very hot.
- 5:00Speaker 3: So does anyone warned you that the average December temperature
- 5:03Speaker 3: in Brisbane is thirty degrees firenheyde or sorry, thirty degrees
- 5:07Speaker 3: or eighty six fahrenheit like im, I want to throw
- 5:09Speaker 3: it out.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It's okay, man, We've played the surface of the Sun.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We can handle this, trust me. There's no way eighty
- 5:18Speaker 2: six is nothing. We played Phoenix, Arizona in the middle
- 5:22Speaker 2: of the summer time one hundred and eighteen degrees on
- 5:24Speaker 2: the Warped tour. Yeah, we can. We can handle it.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Don't worry. Although we do keep getting older, which sucks.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But uh, and I've noticed that, you know, the Warped
- 5:37Speaker 2: tour we did I guess, I don't know, ten years
- 5:41Speaker 2: ago something like that. And now we go out and
- 5:45Speaker 2: it's definitely it helps to have a shorter set, but
- 5:49Speaker 2: we have a shorter.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Now. Core and Nach remember have a backstory that explains
- 5:55Speaker 3: the costume from the concepts in more detail. Again, for
- 5:58Speaker 3: those who might not nineteen about the band but want
- 6:00Speaker 3: to find out before they come to good things. Where's
- 6:03Speaker 3: the best place to go and catch up on the backstory?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Guar dot net. You can find all the law right there,
- 6:10Speaker 2: and I will remind you that Gore was a band
- 6:11Speaker 2: that had law when bands didn't have lore. Now all
- 6:14Speaker 2: of a sudden, everybody's got law like that. Lore is
- 6:17Speaker 2: actually a thing that people are saying, you know what,
- 6:21Speaker 2: go screw yourselves.
- 6:22Speaker 1: We've got lord.
- 6:23Speaker 2: We've always had law.
- 6:25Speaker 3: The kings of law, and Australians love law.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Look at it. It's a country of nothing but bullshitters.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I know that for a fact. I love it. I
- 6:36Speaker 2: love how Australians managed to. You know, my child speaks
- 6:40Speaker 2: with an Australian accent because of that damn Bluey Show.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I'd love to answer for us, isn't it.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I love it? Though she really does. She's quite good
- 6:51Speaker 2: at it.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Did you know the Blowye is actually a girl?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, she knows about it.
- 6:57Speaker 3: This my daughter pointed out to me the other day, and
- 6:59Speaker 3: under stories aimed there was a boy dog No.
- 7:02Speaker 2: No, no, Yeah, Blue is a girl. Bluis m being though.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Oh I know the whole I know the whole script. Look,
- 7:09Speaker 2: I know them all Mackenzie your name.
- 7:13Speaker 3: See if you get him to make he gets to appearance,
- 7:15Speaker 3: stays with you all your audia.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Well, I think that bandit is an old rock and
- 7:20Speaker 2: roll singer.
- 7:20Speaker 3: So never I never know kidding me, I.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Might actually be cool to my kid if I never
- 7:27Speaker 2: about that to happen.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Mate, if I hang around, if they think you're cool.
- 7:34Speaker 3: For released the lightest album, the Return of Go Go
- 7:36Speaker 3: Back off July, the twenty fifty nine lock and that's
- 7:39Speaker 3: it been that long, but now it's a response. Been
- 7:40Speaker 3: for it.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It's been great. People love it and it's you know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: it's it's wild metal punk extravaganza. Man, it's uh fast stuff.
- 7:51Speaker 2: We've got a new guitar player, Grotius. He's a contributing
- 7:57Speaker 2: a lot. And uh, it's a fun song for song
- 8:00Speaker 2: to sing. H. I'm talking about the actual song lot
- 8:04Speaker 2: of Hazard. But uh, then the other two ones are
- 8:06Speaker 2: they're a lot of fun too. We haven't played them
- 8:08Speaker 2: live yet, so I'm not sure how that's gonna go,
- 8:11Speaker 2: but I'm sure it'll be fun. But yeah, I mean
- 8:14Speaker 2: it's it's it's got a comic with it. It's got
- 8:16Speaker 2: a whole story and war has a rich tradition with
- 8:20Speaker 2: underground comics. We've always been Ah, that's been a big
- 8:24Speaker 2: part of what we do as comics. So having a
- 8:27Speaker 2: comic book and some music that goes with it out,
- 8:30Speaker 2: that's kind of the way we want to do things
- 8:32Speaker 2: from now.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Yeah, run as straight. That concept a be more made
- 8:35Speaker 3: the ideas behind it, because the album was part studio,
- 8:38Speaker 3: part live and conceptually based with the comic as you say,
- 8:41Speaker 3: so on the thought process behind doing.
- 8:43Speaker 2: That, Ah, well, I mean we wanted to you know,
- 8:48Speaker 2: we've been out. One thing really is just that the
- 8:51Speaker 2: band has been sounding so good live, uh, really the
- 8:56Speaker 2: best that it sounded in years, and we wanted to
- 8:59Speaker 2: capture that. And we had a set where we did
- 9:01Speaker 2: some cool stuff and Gar there's a lot you know, Gar,
- 9:05Speaker 2: it's not just a metal band, it's not just a
- 9:08Speaker 2: it's a theatrical performance and there's a lot of improv
- 9:12Speaker 2: that goes on, not really stand up comedy, but skit
- 9:16Speaker 2: improv type stuff. We wanted to include some of that,
- 9:20Speaker 2: uh And and the feeling of what a live show
- 9:22Speaker 2: is like now with Guar, and we wanted to the
- 9:28Speaker 2: story uh is really just based on a train wreck
- 9:34Speaker 2: uh uh, which sort of symbolizes gwar too, right, So
- 9:38Speaker 2: circus train that's on the road full of freaks and
- 9:41Speaker 2: and uh they have a seance, some kind of weird
- 9:45Speaker 2: mystical thing, and they summon this big dinosaur that's just
- 9:49Speaker 2: given birth to a little egg, and we hit her,
- 9:53Speaker 2: we kill her, she's dead. We wind up with this
- 9:56Speaker 2: egg that we've got to take care of. H So
- 10:00Speaker 2: it's kind of like a crappy version of Dumbo or
- 10:03Speaker 2: something like that. Uh, you know, and you remember how
- 10:06Speaker 2: heart wrenching that was. Nobody should have been required to
- 10:09Speaker 2: watch dumber. Let me tell you something, least of all
- 10:11Speaker 2: children eventually, Yeah, horrible, But uh so it's it's sort
- 10:18Speaker 2: of that. And then you know, Gorgor, being a young person,
- 10:22Speaker 2: he doesn't know shit because that's what young people know.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Jack shit, nothing, you hear me, And they screw everything up.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And so he takes a potshot at his parents. He
- 10:32Speaker 2: figures he's gonna go out and blow truckers for a
- 10:34Speaker 2: living and be a lot lizard. You know, there's no
- 10:37Speaker 2: manual for parenting. I wish there was, because I would.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I don't know how to do it right.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I'll tell you Gorgorp as we go along, brother.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, endlessly, endlessly disappointing. But uh you know, what
- 10:52Speaker 2: do you do? You gotta love them through.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It all sided? How about most I marched the fortieth
- 10:58Speaker 3: anniversary of Gore right like that. It's not a bad
- 11:00Speaker 3: effort for a band dubbed the Scumbage of the Universe.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Well doesn't it just comebacks?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Stop dog dig dog.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I don't like scumbags. I don't like going anyone.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Thumbags is better, thumbbags is better. Yeah, you're right, You're right,
- 11:13Speaker 2: You're absolutely right. It is a long time Lordie Lardie
- 11:16Speaker 2: Lukhu's party. It's ugly old war and uh yeah, I
- 11:21Speaker 2: mean you know, we're trying to make it a like
- 11:25Speaker 2: to meet somebody at the Christmas party. If you know
- 11:27Speaker 2: what I'm talking about.
- 11:28Speaker 3: We we nuns.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Such a little kiss, a little scene too, something proper.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Before I let you go, brother, I've started a new
- 11:37Speaker 3: segment called photo Bombs, so I basically trolled your social media.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I've come up with a few photos. I want to
- 11:42Speaker 3: ask a bit more about. Like we spoke briefly about
- 11:45Speaker 3: your stage show before. But this is what Australians can expect,
- 11:48Speaker 3: isn't it. Oh yeah, what's the blood.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. A lot of sort of indeterminate gender
- 11:59Speaker 2: beings squirming around. Looks like they've all got scabies and
- 12:06Speaker 2: herpes and I don't know. And then us just spraying stuff,
- 12:10Speaker 2: just spray it stuff. Yeah, that's what we do. We
- 12:14Speaker 2: spray it. A bunch of naked, half naked old dudes.
- 12:18Speaker 2: You can expect that too. Sexy man ass right up there,
- 12:22Speaker 2: hunts the meat.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I'll tell you that security God start him from there.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Doesn't look like he's offering the best.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yes, no, they never do. They never do look at him.
- 12:33Speaker 2: It's always it's always difficult for them. What I love
- 12:37Speaker 2: is when they just turn around and watch the show
- 12:39Speaker 2: and just let people like plummet to their deaths in
- 12:42Speaker 2: the in the pit.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Safety first, Uh, now go one more to show you too, bro, Like,
- 12:53Speaker 3: oh no, think it's a cute fighter. But a lot
- 12:55Speaker 3: of people will disagreeing, Like, what's the worst reaction you've
- 12:58Speaker 3: ever got from my kid?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Oh no, what's I've never even seen this photo? What's
- 13:03Speaker 2: wrong with that child's face?
- 13:05Speaker 3: It looks like, yeah, well, I'll bet you she's shooting
- 13:09Speaker 3: us olf.
- 13:10Speaker 2: What's the what's the the explorer there? I don't know,
- 13:16Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's Sawboord Destructo probably looks like he's
- 13:22Speaker 2: I don't know, he's usually you can usually find him
- 13:24Speaker 2: at like a likes to hang around at big women's
- 13:28Speaker 2: department stores.
- 13:31Speaker 3: What's the general reaction when kids see you guys, like
- 13:33Speaker 3: do they do? They love you?
- 13:34Speaker 2: They hid? I mean, sometimes they love it and sometimes
- 13:38Speaker 2: they they are scared. But uh usually weirdly enough, kids
- 13:44Speaker 2: tend to like war. The kids, uh, little kids, they
- 13:50Speaker 2: realize that it's funny. I mean, you know, I know
- 13:52Speaker 2: some children that they don't like. They don't like the
- 13:56Speaker 2: masks and stuff when they're sitting there, but once we
- 13:58Speaker 2: put them on.
- 13:59Speaker 3: They're like, oh yeah, ok, yeah sure all right, brother, Well,
- 14:03Speaker 3: thanks very much for your time. Could have been a pleasure.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Chattey there Guara in Australia for a good thing kicking
- 14:07Speaker 3: off on December the fifth, and guaranteed they're going to
- 14:10Speaker 3: be one of the acts of the day. You do
- 14:12Speaker 3: not want to miss, brothers, So we'll see you in
- 14:13Speaker 3: a couple of months, all right, take care brother
