- 0:06Speaker 2: or a best of episode every Saturday, where we throw
- 0:09Speaker 2: it back to an old fun interview that we had
- 0:11Speaker 2: just to throw it at the top of our at
- 0:13Speaker 2: the top of our rollerdex here on Spotify, Apple, Google Play,
- 0:16Speaker 2: wherever you're getting your audio podcast right now, and today
- 0:19Speaker 2: we're throwing it back to when Christian McCaffrey joined the
- 0:22Speaker 2: Boys at Super Bowl fifty seven. He talks about becoming
- 0:25Speaker 2: a fan of the pod, the trade from the Panthers
- 0:28Speaker 2: to the Niners, and what went down in the NFC Championship.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Game that year.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We also get into his childhood with him having an
- 0:35Speaker 2: NFL dad ed McCaffrey shout out. Shout out at McCaffrey, dude,
- 0:38Speaker 2: and the wild stuff he made him do. There's an
- 0:40Speaker 2: IV story in there that's a lot of fun. What
- 0:42Speaker 2: his dad did not allow on the football field at
- 0:44Speaker 2: a young age.
- 0:44Speaker 1: This was a fun one.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Boys. Enjoy it. Big hugs, tiny kisses, lads. John, Welcome
- 0:50Speaker 3: to another episode of Busting with the Boys. Hope, the
- 0:54Speaker 3: Great White Hope has arrived. Welcome Christian. We're at the
- 0:58Speaker 3: Contant House in Arizona. Christian walks down the stairs, dude,
- 1:01Speaker 3: and the first thing he hears is Burt Kreischer asking
- 1:05Speaker 3: who Shane would rather fuck me or you? And Shane
- 1:09Speaker 3: said to you and that hurt.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw it.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I saw he saw the hurt of my face.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, what what was your first impression of that
- 1:16Speaker 4: wed entrance to walk into I was hurt for you,
- 1:20Speaker 4: thank you, but definitely it wasn't wasn't too shocked.
- 1:24Speaker 5: I'm a fan of both those guys, so I figured
- 1:25Speaker 5: something like that would be what happen.
- 1:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I walked through the boys normal commercady and then
- 1:30Speaker 6: when we finished, you were all about what's up? I
- 1:33Speaker 6: was gonna say it wouldn't say your day when we
- 1:37Speaker 6: when we finished the episode, Like, you're a big Shane
- 1:39Speaker 6: Gillis fan.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Huh huge, huge. I've seen the Austin stand up like
- 1:42Speaker 5: fifteen times, dude.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It is so fucking funny.
- 1:45Speaker 5: It gets funnier the more you watch it, keep catching
- 1:47Speaker 5: on to something you didn't know he is.
- 1:48Speaker 3: It's the awkward. It's the awkward, like shoulders struck the best,
- 1:52Speaker 3: some tough, hard nose, run it down your throats in
- 1:55Speaker 3: a clouded dust. Yeah, dude, he's so funny. He played football.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He played football, did he really? Yeah, at some like
- 2:02Speaker 3: Naval Academy right west Point, west Point quick he did it. Yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 3: like three weeks He's like another, I can't, I can't
- 2:08Speaker 3: do this anymore, dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah, dude he is.
- 2:15Speaker 3: He's fucking awesome. It's always great. It's always great having
- 2:17Speaker 3: them on, man.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But thanks for coming on though, bro.
- 2:19Speaker 7: Like I feel like we've been connected for a little
- 2:21Speaker 7: bit because like we've seen you rock the merch. We've
- 2:26Speaker 7: started following each other and I'm just thinking, Yo, the fucking.
- 2:29Speaker 3: The boy yea so great, hope.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, he's following like that's fucking sick. Yeah, how'd you
- 2:35Speaker 1: get onto the how'd you get on the bus?
- 2:36Speaker 5: And I'm a fan of the POD for a lot
- 2:38Speaker 5: of reasons. Some of the guys in the locker room,
- 2:42Speaker 5: you guys haven't talked about POD in the locker room,
- 2:46Speaker 5: but uh.
- 2:49Speaker 1: No.
- 2:49Speaker 5: But I'm a fan of the POD for a lot
- 2:51Speaker 5: of reasons. I think there's not a lot of you know,
- 2:54Speaker 5: when people think of NFL players, it's always you know,
- 2:57Speaker 5: this stardom individual you know, it gets a lot of
- 3:01Speaker 5: individual attention not kind of understanding the dynamic of the
- 3:04Speaker 5: locker room. And you have two guys who are on
- 3:09Speaker 5: different spectrums and different journeys of a football team who
- 3:12Speaker 5: came together in a pod, and a lot of your guys'
- 3:14Speaker 5: podcasts are just it's the locker room. And so for me,
- 3:18Speaker 5: it's like, oh my god, that's like I'm sitting in
- 3:20Speaker 5: the car and the off season throwing on a pod
- 3:22Speaker 5: as I'm in.
- 3:23Speaker 3: The locker room. Locker room with the boys.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Feel that, and so I feel like a lot of
- 3:26Speaker 5: other people they they're you know, I don't know if
- 3:28Speaker 5: they know that, but subconsciously they're like, damn, that's probably
- 3:31Speaker 5: what goes on in the locker room.
- 3:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm a fan. I really am a fan. I
- 3:34Speaker 8: like the pod a lot.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Dude. I'm so happy you said that, because that's literally
- 3:38Speaker 3: like our whole goal is. Like everyone who you when
- 3:41Speaker 3: you're playing in the league, like when you first get
- 3:43Speaker 3: in the lead, there's those year ten guys and they
- 3:45Speaker 3: like leave and they come back and you always ask them, hey,
- 3:47Speaker 3: what do you miss And everybody says, there's a couple
- 3:49Speaker 3: of answers, but everyone always says they missed the boys.
- 3:52Speaker 3: They missed the locker room, and like, as you get older,
- 3:54Speaker 3: you kind of fear that. So when Will and I
- 3:56Speaker 3: started this like that, we wanted that to be the vibe.
- 3:58Speaker 3: We wanted to be the vibe where people are sitting down,
- 4:01Speaker 3: we're asking the same dumb questions Kobe or Lebron or
- 4:04Speaker 3: Michael we're asking. First time he jerked off like just
- 4:07Speaker 3: crazy like conversations about the Lebron question. Yeah, but you know,
- 4:11Speaker 3: that's always a question, and it's always a question. The
- 4:13Speaker 3: locker was the first thing came to my It's a
- 4:14Speaker 3: popular question. I don't think we have talked about that,
- 4:16Speaker 3: but it is, like, it's fucking awesome, dude, and it's
- 4:19Speaker 3: great to know that, like the forty nine or something,
- 4:21Speaker 3: they roll with the.
- 4:21Speaker 8: Boys, it's the best. It's a good locker room.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Kittle kind of steam had that, Yeah, I would say.
- 4:27Speaker 5: So, you know, for for me personally, I came in
- 4:30Speaker 5: the middle of the year not knowing what was going on.
- 4:32Speaker 5: You know, I didn't know I knew people, but didn't
- 4:34Speaker 5: know people, which was a weird experience.
- 4:37Speaker 8: But you can just tell.
- 4:38Speaker 5: I think there was twenty two guys from the Super
- 4:40Speaker 5: Bowl team a few years ago, who are still on
- 4:42Speaker 5: the team. So they they'd set a culture and a
- 4:45Speaker 5: standard that had been there for a while, and you know,
- 4:49Speaker 5: I was just pumped up to join them.
- 4:50Speaker 7: What was it like getting traded? It was you You're
- 4:54Speaker 7: the friend. You're like the face of the Panthers, like.
- 4:56Speaker 3: The fun when we would play you guys, they'd be like,
- 4:59Speaker 3: if you stop this guy, we have a chance to win.
- 5:01Speaker 7: He's gonna touch the ball three times a game. First
- 5:03Speaker 7: overall draft pick for me Fantasy Football. Thank you for
- 5:06Speaker 7: Holden's true I was like, Okay, he's had a couple
- 5:08Speaker 7: of jurry bugs last couple years. This is he's gonna
- 5:10Speaker 7: get it right this year.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 5:11Speaker 7: Yeah, take us through that trade, bro, because that's I mean,
- 5:13Speaker 7: that was a massive headline.
- 5:14Speaker 3: It was it was.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Inn you know, you hear about it, but you never
- 5:18Speaker 5: I don't know. For me, I never thought i'd get traded.
- 5:21Speaker 5: I thought I was a Panther forever. I'm like, I
- 5:22Speaker 5: bought a house there, this is home, and I'd heard
- 5:25Speaker 5: the rumors in the offseason, so I you know, obviously
- 5:28Speaker 5: I called the GM. I'm like, hey, man, just you know,
- 5:30Speaker 5: I just need to hear it from you. Any any truth,
- 5:32Speaker 5: and he was super honest. He's like, look, absolutely not.
- 5:36Speaker 5: We don't want to do this, you know, but we'll
- 5:38Speaker 5: listen to everything. And that's that's fair. I'm like, sounds good.
- 5:41Speaker 5: Just let me know. But I went into the season, man,
- 5:43Speaker 5: I'm like, look, I'm all in. It is what it is.
- 5:45Speaker 5: I I legitimately forgot about that, thinking I'm on the
- 5:48Speaker 5: team I play. And I think it was four or
- 5:50Speaker 5: five games and the rumors had continued to gone and
- 5:54Speaker 5: coach rule got fired. We had lost a few games
- 5:57Speaker 5: in a row, and I figured, like, if this was
- 5:59Speaker 5: going to happen, this is how it happens.
- 6:02Speaker 3: And you're anticipated it a little bit.
- 6:05Speaker 5: I didn't, maybe subconsciously, but I never I never addressed it,
- 6:08Speaker 5: you know, openly. And so, uh, we played La, we
- 6:12Speaker 5: played the Rams. It was a first game with Coach Wilkes,
- 6:15Speaker 5: and we lost. I had a pretty good game, though,
- 6:18Speaker 5: and I just remember my agent saying it could happen
- 6:21Speaker 5: this week, but I don't think so. And so early
- 6:23Speaker 5: in the week it was you know, I don't think
- 6:24Speaker 5: this is happening. And then the week kept going and
- 6:28Speaker 5: going and there was more of a chance and I
- 6:29Speaker 5: was just like, look, if it's going to happen, make
- 6:31Speaker 5: a house preparing for Tampa. So for you know, anyone
- 6:34Speaker 5: who doesn't know what it's like to get traded in
- 6:35Speaker 5: the middle of a week. You know, I'm in practice
- 6:38Speaker 5: in meetings Wednesday, treatment practice and meetings Thursday, treatment eleven
- 6:42Speaker 5: thirty pm. I get a call trading me to the Niners. YadA, YadA,
- 6:46Speaker 5: seven am. Flight didn't say by to one person. Practice
- 6:50Speaker 5: with the Niners Friday. Try to scramble together, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 5: a few plays in a little package. Go play the
- 6:56Speaker 5: Chiefs on Sunday for the Niners. And then from there
- 6:59Speaker 5: you just so.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You when when you call the GM you obviously there's
- 7:03Speaker 3: a bit of an anxiety. And then when you after
- 7:05Speaker 3: you play the Rams, your agents like, hey, probably won't happen,
- 7:09Speaker 3: but it could happen this week. How does that like
- 7:11Speaker 3: affect you during the season leading up to that point,
- 7:13Speaker 3: because obviously everyone's always all in, Like the guys who
- 7:16Speaker 3: really care about football, they're gonna be all in for
- 7:18Speaker 3: their team, but there's gonna be some sort of level
- 7:20Speaker 3: of you got to feel some sort of way knowing
- 7:23Speaker 3: there's a possibility of this team, whether you feel like
- 7:25Speaker 3: they're giving up on you or they want to move
- 7:28Speaker 3: on for whatever reason. Like what was your thought process
- 7:30Speaker 3: like up until getting traded.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's I think I legitimately blocked it
- 7:36Speaker 5: out for the first four weeks and then like like
- 7:39Speaker 5: you said, like that week where it was like, hey,
- 7:41Speaker 5: this could happen. I mean it's all I thought about.
- 7:43Speaker 5: You know, It's like it was completely in the back
- 7:44Speaker 5: of my head, like consuming the unknown. Yeah, it consumes you,
- 7:47Speaker 5: but you have to do your best. Were I was,
- 7:49Speaker 5: you know, prepping for Tampa. So I just started, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 5: doing all that and just getting ready to go. And
- 7:54Speaker 5: I figured, hey, don't change a thing, because regardless you're
- 7:58Speaker 5: going to be on a team, whether it's you know,
- 7:59Speaker 5: you get tryed Tuesday or whether you get traded Thursday,
- 8:02Speaker 5: whatever it is. I just didn't want to prolong it.
- 8:04Speaker 5: I wanted to play in every game this year. That
- 8:06Speaker 5: was a you know, big deal to me to be
- 8:08Speaker 5: able to suit up and play in every game, and
- 8:10Speaker 5: so I just wanted it to happen sooner than later.
- 8:12Speaker 5: But uh no, it definitely consumes you. I mean, it's
- 8:15Speaker 5: in the back of your head even in practice. I'm like, dude,
- 8:17Speaker 5: just don't do anything stupid, like who knows what's going
- 8:19Speaker 5: to happen, Like I was warming up for like an
- 8:21Speaker 5: hour just to make sure I'm you know, checking the box.
- 8:24Speaker 5: So yeah, it definitely consumes you a little.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Then you I was gonna say, as your initial reaction
- 8:29Speaker 7: when you got traded, is it pissed off.
- 8:32Speaker 8: It's so weird.
- 8:34Speaker 5: It's a weird deal because there's so many emotions, and
- 8:36Speaker 5: the first emotions probably anger, like man, you guys don't
- 8:40Speaker 5: want me anymore? Like that's really what it is. You know,
- 8:42Speaker 5: you can call it what it is. Well, they got
- 8:43Speaker 5: a lot for you. It's like na, like you're you
- 8:45Speaker 5: think you're better off without me, That's what it is.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And uh so you get that.
- 8:50Speaker 5: So it's you know, you're pissed off, but then you're excited,
- 8:53Speaker 5: but then you're you know, you got two days. So
- 8:56Speaker 5: I just think there's so many emotions that get flooded
- 8:58Speaker 5: at you at once that you're not really able to
- 9:00Speaker 5: address because they give you the playbook as soon as
- 9:03Speaker 5: you get there, and you're like, shit, man, that's all
- 9:05Speaker 5: that's you know, I gotta get going, so you can't
- 9:07Speaker 5: even address it. And I don't even know if I've
- 9:09Speaker 5: completely decompressed yet with the whole thing.
- 9:12Speaker 3: But it's like a big breakup and you don't get
- 9:14Speaker 3: any chance after. Yeah, they break up into a next relationship, Yeah, immediately,
- 9:19Speaker 3: not even like the courting process of the other relationship.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I'm healthy to leave this one. I go this one.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Your ex pis your next chick?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, what the hell is?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Hey, we're done. But she's gonna be great to me.
- 9:28Speaker 3: She's gonna be fantastic. I hope she's good, and she was.
- 9:31Speaker 3: She was. It had to be a little bit of
- 9:33Speaker 3: like Carolina was going down the dumbs pretty fast. And
- 9:36Speaker 3: then you get traded to the forty nine. Ers are like, hey,
- 9:38Speaker 3: you're pissed at first, and you're like, I'm going to
- 9:40Speaker 3: a good ball club here in.
- 9:42Speaker 5: A family that obviously is you know you know what though,
- 9:44Speaker 5: and I've this is dead honest truth. I legitimately thought
- 9:48Speaker 5: we could still win because we had a really hard
- 9:51Speaker 5: first part of the schedule, and so there was a
- 9:54Speaker 5: few games in there where we're like a god, like,
- 9:56Speaker 5: you hope you win these games, and you want to
- 9:58Speaker 5: win these games, but you got a new quarterback, you
- 10:01Speaker 5: got a new offense. There's gonna it's gonna come with
- 10:04Speaker 5: some growing pains. Our coordinator just got there, our quarterback
- 10:07Speaker 5: got there in training camp, Like I, I really believe
- 10:09Speaker 5: we could still win. So in the back of my head,
- 10:11Speaker 5: I'm like, you know, we could be one of those
- 10:14Speaker 5: Miami teams who wins nine straight later in the year.
- 10:16Speaker 3: A couple of years ago.
- 10:17Speaker 5: I in my head believed that, and and they ended
- 10:20Speaker 5: up doing you know, kind of making.
- 10:22Speaker 1: A little bit of the man.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I mean, they got the mix for sure.
- 10:24Speaker 5: So I I, you know, you any way you could
- 10:27Speaker 5: get into the playoffs.
- 10:28Speaker 8: It doesn't really matter as long as.
- 10:29Speaker 3: You get in.
- 10:29Speaker 5: And so I thought we could and so that that
- 10:32Speaker 5: didn't help. I wasn't like, oh the hell, yeah, I'm
- 10:33Speaker 5: out like that. That that wasn't my mentality after got traded.
- 10:36Speaker 5: I loved Charlotte man and I was a captain on
- 10:38Speaker 5: that team. I love those guys, and uh so, you know,
- 10:42Speaker 5: it came with a lot of mixed emotions.
- 10:44Speaker 3: So Thursday night, eleven thirty at night, you get traded,
- 10:46Speaker 3: seven am, you're on a flight and then you have
- 10:48Speaker 3: to play a game in forty eight hours essentially, like
- 10:51Speaker 3: what was when you talked to Shanahan and the boys,
- 10:53Speaker 3: like we like, hey, we need these ten plays out
- 10:55Speaker 3: of you during the game, because it was it was
- 10:57Speaker 3: a big surprise to everybody when you'd stepped on the
- 10:59Speaker 3: fields that that Sunday.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I at first I didn't know if I was
- 11:03Speaker 5: gonna play. I don't think they knew if I was
- 11:05Speaker 5: gonna play. And then I think I got there and
- 11:07Speaker 5: and if you know how Shanahan's a wizard man. He
- 11:11Speaker 5: I think he started to put together a little bit
- 11:12Speaker 5: of a red zone package and maybe something like ten
- 11:15Speaker 5: plays here where he's like, you know, maybe we can
- 11:17Speaker 5: use him in a couple different ways and teach him
- 11:20Speaker 5: some base runs, get them some touches. And uh so
- 11:24Speaker 5: I had I was ready for ten to twelve plays.
- 11:26Speaker 5: I ended up playing like twenty. And poor Jimmy, like
- 11:29Speaker 5: he called like eight plays I've never heard. I know,
- 11:31Speaker 5: I couldn't tell you what one thing meant in the play,
- 11:34Speaker 5: like Jimmy, I'm sorry, but you got to tell me
- 11:35Speaker 5: what to do. Jimmy, you know obviously told me what
- 11:38Speaker 5: to do. But yeah, it was it was a different
- 11:42Speaker 5: game week experience.
- 11:44Speaker 7: I could say that, how was your how was your
- 11:46Speaker 7: transition going to San France?
- 11:47Speaker 3: It was great, man, it was great.
- 11:49Speaker 5: I mean, that's as seamless of a transition as I
- 11:53Speaker 5: could have imagined. From the coaches helping me out learning
- 11:56Speaker 5: the plays quick to shit. Brock Purty was walking through
- 12:00Speaker 5: with me on the turf field, you know, after hours,
- 12:03Speaker 5: just to try to, you know, get some reps in
- 12:05Speaker 5: so I could hear the plays. Kiddle and all the
- 12:08Speaker 5: leaders on the team. I mean, you're playing with guys
- 12:11Speaker 5: that are elite at what they do with all over
- 12:15Speaker 5: the locker room. So from them welcome me in. Man,
- 12:18Speaker 5: they felt like family right away. I was so thankful,
- 12:22Speaker 5: you know, because you never know how that's gonna go.
- 12:23Speaker 5: It could be some resentment or something like he was
- 12:26Speaker 5: a new guy, and uh no, they welcome in with
- 12:29Speaker 5: open arms. Everyone was so great and clicked those boys
- 12:31Speaker 5: right away.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Yeah, when you first got to stan Frandi, like who
- 12:36Speaker 3: did you gravitate towards early like? Or who I guess
- 12:39Speaker 3: who opened the doors to like a little bit of
- 12:41Speaker 3: a friendship early like boys.
- 12:42Speaker 8: Kittle was amazing, man.
- 12:43Speaker 5: He he called me when I got traded the GM
- 12:47Speaker 5: the Panthers called me. He told me getting traded. John
- 12:52Speaker 5: Lynch called me, and then Kittle called me. Did you
- 12:55Speaker 5: know before I'd known Kittle. I you know, hung out
- 12:57Speaker 5: with them for a while, you know, seeing him at
- 13:00Speaker 5: different events here and there. So he was like the
- 13:02Speaker 5: third call, and man, that meant a lot to me.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Obviously he's a leader on that team. And then sharing
- 13:06Speaker 5: the running back room with Kyle Juice check was great,
- 13:09Speaker 5: and that whole running back.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Room was awesome. Man, it's a good room.
- 13:13Speaker 5: And Elijah Mitchell and just being able to learn from
- 13:16Speaker 5: him and just no egos. No, you know, it was
- 13:20Speaker 5: a it was a seamless transition. But you know, I
- 13:23Speaker 5: saw like Trent Williams in the locker rooms like monster,
- 13:26Speaker 5: I saw man and Fred Warner is a beast, you know, Debo,
- 13:30Speaker 5: you all those guys.
- 13:31Speaker 9: So they are sad, So they're so close.
- 13:33Speaker 8: Man, like you can tell they've been through some shit together.
- 13:36Speaker 9: Yeah you know what I mean.
- 13:37Speaker 5: So when I stepped in there, I'm like, look, I
- 13:39Speaker 5: just just do your job.
- 13:40Speaker 8: You don't got to do anything else, but just do
- 13:42Speaker 8: your job.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Knowing that the Panthers were your first was your first organization.
- 13:46Speaker 7: Going to the San Francisco and seeing how that organization
- 13:48Speaker 7: was ran, was that eye opening between the two different organizations,
- 13:51Speaker 7: Like I know, for me when I went from Washington
- 13:53Speaker 7: to Tennessee. You saw right away, like how differently the
- 13:57Speaker 7: Titans would run stuff compared to compared.
- 13:59Speaker 3: To Washington, and the same when I went to the
- 14:00Speaker 3: Raiders and everything else.
- 14:01Speaker 7: Was it similar at all going from Carolina to San Francisco?
- 14:05Speaker 5: Uh No, it was pretty different in a lot of ways,
- 14:08Speaker 5: not even good or bad, but you just you get
- 14:10Speaker 5: in a routine in one team, or do your practice
- 14:12Speaker 5: schedule with when you get treatment, with when they practice,
- 14:15Speaker 5: when they lift, et cetera. So all that was different.
- 14:17Speaker 5: So I had to kind of adjust mid season all
- 14:19Speaker 5: of that stuff. So as far as the scheduling went,
- 14:22Speaker 5: it was much different. The playbook obviously was much different,
- 14:25Speaker 5: completely new terminology, and but I think you know, for me,
- 14:30Speaker 5: you I adapted pretty quick. And the other good thing
- 14:32Speaker 5: was we played Kansas City, where I chalk it up
- 14:35Speaker 5: to you know, scratch, like you played, but just now
- 14:39Speaker 5: you can get your bearings for a week. And then
- 14:41Speaker 5: we played LA the next week, and then we had
- 14:43Speaker 5: a buy, so I played in really one and a
- 14:46Speaker 5: half games, and then we had a buy where I
- 14:48Speaker 5: could really get used to everything and how things were ran.
- 14:51Speaker 5: But even like your treatment people, you know what I mean?
- 14:53Speaker 5: Like the guys that you see that, Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Because you got your guy, Like there's that one guy
- 14:57Speaker 3: in the building was like, this is my dude I'm.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Working with, Like you know all that you're scrambling to
- 15:02Speaker 5: figure that stuff out. And yeah, there's there's a lot
- 15:06Speaker 5: of differences here and there, but I'd say that was
- 15:09Speaker 5: probably the biggest effect. It's just trying to figure out
- 15:12Speaker 5: the logistics of your schedule throughout the week.
- 15:14Speaker 7: Yeah, how close are you with the uh like getting
- 15:18Speaker 7: cause your family's with the your the Shanahan family and
- 15:22Speaker 7: your family, you guys.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Are like tight right?
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yes?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Is that are you?
- 15:25Speaker 7: Are you going there feeling kind of like that interpersonal
- 15:28Speaker 7: relationship with Coachanahan or is it kind of like our
- 15:31Speaker 7: families are type of you know, it's.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's still different for us.
- 15:34Speaker 5: I think when you get traded, it's like you really
- 15:37Speaker 5: understand the family, friend or whatever, how much of a
- 15:40Speaker 5: business it is, and you also understand that these guys
- 15:43Speaker 5: just traded a lot for you, So you know, there's
- 15:46Speaker 5: there's no like, hey, what's up man? Good, It's like
- 15:49Speaker 5: all right, dude, like I it's time, like I gotta
- 15:52Speaker 5: I gotta prove you right, and we got a roll
- 15:54Speaker 5: because you know, I mean, my my dad played for
- 15:57Speaker 5: played for Mike Shanahan for a long time, and they're
- 16:00Speaker 5: really close, you know, really close, and Kyle grew up
- 16:03Speaker 5: in that locker room. Kyle grew up one of those games,
- 16:05Speaker 5: the Niners games when Mike was there and the Broncos games.
- 16:08Speaker 5: I'd only met Kyle after a game when we when
- 16:11Speaker 5: we played them, though I didn't, I wasn't like, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 5: I talked.
- 16:14Speaker 3: To Kyle all the time. That wasn't the case at all.
- 16:16Speaker 5: And I think, you know, we have a lot of
- 16:19Speaker 5: similarities in a lot of ways, in the sense that
- 16:21Speaker 5: you know, your your dad's kind of grew up. You know,
- 16:23Speaker 5: my dad had three Super Bowl rings and growing up
- 16:25Speaker 5: in Denver, you know, he was a big deal. And
- 16:29Speaker 5: you know, I kind of always you know, I ended
- 16:33Speaker 5: up making a name for myself, but just growing up,
- 16:35Speaker 5: you're in his shadow. And I thought it was the
- 16:36Speaker 5: best thing ever. I mean, me and my pops are
- 16:38Speaker 5: like that, and it was. It was amazing. But you know,
- 16:41Speaker 5: I think Kyle probably feels out a little bit too,
- 16:43Speaker 5: and so it's all business though, And I love Kyle
- 16:46Speaker 5: and I and we you know, we got a good relationship,
- 16:48Speaker 5: but I want to win so bad man, and I
- 16:50Speaker 5: know he does too, So it's it's definitely to the
- 16:53Speaker 5: script and business.
- 16:54Speaker 3: You guys are so close this year, dude, When when
- 16:57Speaker 3: you got Jimmy and g telling you what to do
- 16:58Speaker 3: in the field and a few weeks later he's out,
- 17:01Speaker 3: Like what was the vibe in the locker room? Because
- 17:03Speaker 3: it seems like it was truly a next man up mentality,
- 17:06Speaker 3: That's what it seemed from me outside looking in. But
- 17:09Speaker 3: do you have a guy who's mister irrelevant, Like you
- 17:10Speaker 3: really have no idea what he's gonna put on the field.
- 17:12Speaker 3: You had no chance to see him in camp or
- 17:14Speaker 3: really in preseason games or anything. So like what was
- 17:16Speaker 3: your thought process? And like what was the vibe of
- 17:18Speaker 3: the boys like the next day?
- 17:21Speaker 5: And there was a lot of mixed emotions, uh, and
- 17:24Speaker 5: a lot of unknowns. But like I said, I mean
- 17:26Speaker 5: that you got the number one defense and you have
- 17:30Speaker 5: a lot of weapons, and so I don't I don't.
- 17:32Speaker 5: I really don't believe anyone ever blinked. I think it was, hey,
- 17:35Speaker 5: we're gonna have to step up, like there's you know,
- 17:38Speaker 5: and I don't know what that means because I never
- 17:40Speaker 5: understood that because it's like, well, what were you doing before?
- 17:42Speaker 5: Like you know, but like you know what I mean,
- 17:44Speaker 5: just kind of you know, lock in, no, no bullshit, nothing,
- 17:48Speaker 5: and uh but I didn't feel like anybody blinked. And
- 17:52Speaker 5: I and to hear the defense talk about Brock because
- 17:54Speaker 5: those are the guys going against them in scout team
- 17:56Speaker 5: and during training camp they were huge fans. They're like,
- 17:58Speaker 5: oh no, he can ball, and so we're like, all right,
- 18:01Speaker 5: let's let's see what happens. And he went in the
- 18:03Speaker 5: middle of Miami game, he won, and and then you know,
- 18:05Speaker 5: it's kind of history from there. But now it was
- 18:09Speaker 5: impressive what he did. I'll be honest with you, how
- 18:11Speaker 5: do you really impress if the wash room from a
- 18:13Speaker 5: close spectrum.
- 18:14Speaker 3: How do you feel sitting in this room right now
- 18:16Speaker 3: and not getting ready for the Super Bowl? No, you
- 18:18Speaker 3: were so close.
- 18:19Speaker 8: It hurts, man, It hurts. It's uh yeah, it hurts.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it hurts man. But is your dad like the
- 18:26Speaker 3: guy from what was the movie with Booby Miles right
- 18:29Speaker 3: and night lights? So he's like, you see that he
- 18:31Speaker 3: got one of those, got one of those, gets you
- 18:33Speaker 3: one of those? That is your dad kind of put
- 18:36Speaker 3: in your face a little bit, or he's letting a ride.
- 18:38Speaker 8: I've never seen my dad's rings. He's the couldn't be you.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Got to drive home drug after a game?
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he toss out the window. Your stuff going through
- 18:44Speaker 3: the grass. No fucking kicks out the window. Christians all
- 18:51Speaker 3: sat on the field as dad walks up, puts it
- 18:53Speaker 3: on his finger.
- 18:54Speaker 5: By the way, they asked me the other day, like,
- 18:56Speaker 5: what's one of the best movie scenes of all time?
- 18:58Speaker 3: That was like in my top.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Three when he's on his knees when he hugs his
- 19:03Speaker 5: dad at the end there when others I mean.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Emotional right now, that is tough. Was the lamp scene?
- 19:09Speaker 3: Anony throws the lamp on the ground.
- 19:11Speaker 7: I dropped it. He's like, can't hold the lamp, can't
- 19:13Speaker 7: hold on the football.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I can hold on the football. Get the hell out
- 19:17Speaker 3: of here. I got a funny story about that. Actually,
- 19:19Speaker 3: dug tasers are can you old?
- 19:20Speaker 1: How about now?
- 19:21Speaker 3: Can you all do it now? Oh my god, that
- 19:24Speaker 3: poor girl just sitting there watching it all go down
- 19:26Speaker 3: to Tim mc graw's like half naked, Like yeah, yeah, well,
- 19:30Speaker 3: I think.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Your name's like Maurice Marie. You've grown up.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Relaxed. Yeah.
- 19:36Speaker 5: So Tim McGrath's daughter went to Stanford, so we got
- 19:40Speaker 5: to know the McGraths a little bit, Me and my
- 19:41Speaker 5: friend group.
- 19:42Speaker 8: She's an awesome girl, and uh, we had dinner.
- 19:45Speaker 5: A family friend of ours know them pretty well, so
- 19:48Speaker 5: he invited us over for dinner when we were at Stanford.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Not Tim, our family friend, but the McGrath's him and
- 19:53Speaker 5: Faith Hill we're going and so we're like, all right, cool,
- 19:57Speaker 5: well we'll head over, and the whole way on the
- 19:59Speaker 5: car right, they're like, dude, just don't fucking say any
- 20:01Speaker 5: Friday night lights lines, like don't say like the professional whatever.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Within five minutes, someone drops a fork and my idiot
- 20:08Speaker 5: buddy like like, it's like, don't punch. The president goes,
- 20:12Speaker 5: can't hold on the fork.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Can't hold on dude.
- 20:16Speaker 5: He was like no, no, and we all just started
- 20:19Speaker 5: and he started laughing too, which was good, but oh
- 20:22Speaker 5: my god, it was anything to it.
- 20:23Speaker 8: He laughed. He just laughed. He didn't say anything.
- 20:25Speaker 3: And Jim McGraw is one of those dudes you've seen.
- 20:26Speaker 3: You're like, fuck, that's really Tim McGrath as he ripped out. Dude,
- 20:30Speaker 3: I saw him at uh when I tore my seal
- 20:33Speaker 3: on twenty twenty and they were playing The Ravens and
- 20:36Speaker 3: the Sweet next to me. He was there and someone
- 20:38Speaker 3: like kind of tapped the loss. I kind of get
- 20:39Speaker 3: like one of those, and he like, look, gave me
- 20:41Speaker 3: the head and I was like, we're fucking tight, dude,
- 20:43Speaker 3: We're boys, brother, Yeah, but dude. We were at Losers
- 20:46Speaker 3: in Nashville one time and the owner of Loser's name
- 20:49Speaker 3: is Steve Ford. He comes up. He goes, hey, y'all
- 20:51Speaker 3: want the back. That's fine, but Bob's coming. I'm like,
- 20:55Speaker 3: who's Bob. He's like Kid Rock, Kid Rocks on his way.
- 20:57Speaker 3: So my first thing is where's Will. I go over
- 20:59Speaker 3: to way, like Will good Rock's coming. Don't say any
- 21:03Speaker 3: Joe dirt that's summer too massive, Kid Rock. Yeah, I'm like,
- 21:07Speaker 3: don't say any Joe dirt ship, don't start saying ball
- 21:10Speaker 3: with the bar, any of this stuff. Kid Rock comes in.
- 21:12Speaker 3: We're hanging out. We're literally playing beer pong, and we're
- 21:14Speaker 3: like talking for a little bit. It's me Will and
- 21:18Speaker 3: Kid Rock and we we're talking and there's like a
- 21:20Speaker 3: bit of an awkward silence and we'll just go I
- 21:23Speaker 3: can't stop thinking about Joe dirt lines right now. Oh
- 21:30Speaker 3: my god, brother. Oh, it's tough when you're around those
- 21:34Speaker 3: of cats. Dude, it's tough. You kind of want to
- 21:36Speaker 3: be like, I know you you don't really.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Know them different scenes. Bro, Yeah, it's exactly.
- 21:42Speaker 8: It's like not man, no, no, you're just you're thinking
- 21:44Speaker 8: of his character.
- 21:46Speaker 7: So I would actually think is like an asshole who
- 21:49Speaker 7: I wouldn't like before meeting him. Is a Jeoffrey from
- 21:52Speaker 7: Game of Thrones. I think I really have an issue.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I gotta watch that show. Yeah, the worst person we
- 21:59Speaker 3: will step away from act. That's what I heard. He
- 22:02Speaker 3: quit acting. What a great actor. That has got to
- 22:07Speaker 3: be an act.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Shall we talk about the NFC Championship?
- 22:13Speaker 3: We don't have to.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I think we got it.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Don't worry about it.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I think we got to touch on it.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Don't worry about it, dude, we got to touch We
- 22:19Speaker 3: got to touch on it. Figure, did brock perty fake
- 22:22Speaker 3: that injury? I'm just kidding. I mean it was pretty tough.
- 22:28Speaker 5: He he tore his UCL I mean he legitimately couldn't throw.
- 22:31Speaker 8: And our only hope for you know, we still had hope.
- 22:35Speaker 8: Josh came in and we we tie it up. We're
- 22:37Speaker 8: ready to roll.
- 22:38Speaker 5: And then when Josh went down, it's like, you know,
- 22:40Speaker 5: it's panic mode, but you never know. Defense picked six
- 22:44Speaker 5: special teams touchdown, you know what's gonna happen.
- 22:47Speaker 3: But I don't know if they knew.
- 22:49Speaker 5: How hurt Brock was, so just having Brock out there,
- 22:52Speaker 5: there was still the threat of like, oh, maybe maybe
- 22:54Speaker 5: they shot him up and he's good to go, like
- 22:56Speaker 5: who knows, right, And he threw a couple of screen passes,
- 22:58Speaker 5: but I mean that's a serios injuries, just yeah, serious
- 23:01Speaker 5: injury for him to come back in the game and
- 23:03Speaker 5: you know, try to at least throw dog.
- 23:06Speaker 9: Yeah no, uh no, he didn't fake it.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Because I didn't get to see the game. But you
- 23:11Speaker 3: were saying they were just like you were just running
- 23:12Speaker 3: the ball after at.
- 23:13Speaker 7: Least, like, yeah, they might not know what's going on,
- 23:15Speaker 7: but after a few plays, you're gonna realize, like, let's
- 23:17Speaker 7: just stack the box until they do throw and show
- 23:19Speaker 7: that they can try and go up top. So after that,
- 23:22Speaker 7: like as you guys are doing running playfter running platter,
- 23:24Speaker 7: running patter, running pla after fucking running play going into
- 23:27Speaker 7: the fourth quarter, and then it's not like nobody's like
- 23:30Speaker 7: the clock's not stopping.
- 23:32Speaker 1: You guys are just running the football.
- 23:33Speaker 7: I'm sitting there, like, will at least try to fucking
- 23:37Speaker 7: at least try to throw the fall like you throw
- 23:38Speaker 7: it into the fucking stands.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I'm like, hell yeah, let it fucking rip, brother.
- 23:41Speaker 8: It was one of the worst.
- 23:44Speaker 7: Why continue to just run the ball?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Is there a sense of frustration?
- 23:49Speaker 3: Like like him and Debo and draw up on the
- 23:52Speaker 3: saddle like.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Hey, hey, George, I'm about to just say, look at me,
- 23:55Speaker 7: I'm gonna throw this ball to you.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 5: Yeah, in theory, like that's that sounds really good. I
- 24:00Speaker 5: just I just feel like I couldn't call play like
- 24:03Speaker 5: I I know the running back position and in some
- 24:05Speaker 5: Z plays, but like calling a play and knowing what
- 24:07Speaker 5: people are.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Doing, you could draw it up all you want.
- 24:09Speaker 5: We drew up that that double reverse, and you know
- 24:12Speaker 5: it was the one time I think they go to
- 24:13Speaker 5: shell now and then I you know, Kittle's double covered
- 24:16Speaker 5: and he's our only guy, and so I just I
- 24:19Speaker 5: threw it's absolutely nobody.
- 24:21Speaker 1: But I love that you just let it rip it
- 24:24Speaker 1: throw the football.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 5: I almost got grounding, which would have been like, oh yeah,
- 24:27Speaker 5: never mind, We're not throwing the football. But but no,
- 24:29Speaker 5: it's uh, I think at that point, man, you're you're
- 24:33Speaker 5: hoping for you know, we did a couple of double
- 24:35Speaker 5: reverses and we were still running the ball efficiently. It's
- 24:39Speaker 5: not like we were zero yards. And I don't know,
- 24:43Speaker 5: I wish I'm not a coach. I I don't know
- 24:45Speaker 5: what I would have done. I don't think I've ever
- 24:47Speaker 5: seen that. The only time I've ever seen no quarterbacks
- 24:49Speaker 5: to be able to play was the Broncos COVID Deal.
- 24:54Speaker 8: Peace squad receiver they got to be by like forty five.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a tough That was a tough though,
- 24:58Speaker 5: let alone and you know, not having a quarterback for
- 25:00Speaker 5: two and a half in the NFC Championship. But I'm
- 25:03Speaker 5: you know, and they they're the ones that hurt them.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So it's not like, you know, you can't say it's
- 25:07Speaker 5: not fair. You know, they play good ball, it's a
- 25:09Speaker 5: good team.
- 25:10Speaker 1: But yeah, what a tough fucking spot to be in.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And I get it.
- 25:13Speaker 7: It's like in theory that sounds nice and it's like,
- 25:16Speaker 7: I know, like I'm saying then kind of you're trying
- 25:19Speaker 7: to get you to speak on something where it's like
- 25:21Speaker 7: I mean, I'm not you're not a coach, you're not
- 25:23Speaker 7: doing all that stuff. You're not trying to draw it up.
- 25:24Speaker 7: But I'm just thinking, NFC Championship, there's truly nothing to
- 25:27Speaker 7: fucking lose at what at all, whatsoever. So it's like
- 25:31Speaker 7: you're just out there, Hey, I'm gonna fucking go five
- 25:32Speaker 7: yards and go out just to simplify for somebody trying
- 25:34Speaker 7: to throw the rock like Kyle be A be a quarterback,
- 25:37Speaker 7: so Christian could maybe still run the football.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But that's what I'm still there thinking.
- 25:41Speaker 7: I'm like, man, at least at least show that you
- 25:44Speaker 7: might just throw the ball at some point.
- 25:45Speaker 3: That's what I was saying. You know, I'm pissed off
- 25:47Speaker 3: you on TV. I bet on you guys. I'm fucking
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm pissed off. If there wasn't gonna be a quarterback,
- 25:52Speaker 3: who do you think it would be have to step in? Ye, man,
- 26:00Speaker 3: taking away the fact that it's the NFC Championship, that'd
- 26:02Speaker 3: be cool, Like if you're in the middle of six.
- 26:05Speaker 3: In the back of my mind, I won't lie.
- 26:06Speaker 5: I'm like, look, dude, if I get the ball, I'm
- 26:08Speaker 5: ripping it like yeah, yeah, brother.
- 26:10Speaker 3: They call like some you know whatever the top off,
- 26:14Speaker 3: we shouldn't have done.
- 26:15Speaker 7: Yeah, but if it's in the middle of the season,
- 26:18Speaker 7: you you do, like you run the ball, you get
- 26:19Speaker 7: out of the game, and it's like, well, fuck, we
- 26:21Speaker 7: didn't have a quarterback. But it's like the game before
- 26:24Speaker 7: the Super Bowl.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but you guys are thinking about the negative, Like
- 26:28Speaker 3: imagine if you were the play quarterback and was throwing
- 26:30Speaker 3: dimes all of a sudden.
- 26:31Speaker 8: Yeah or yeah, I don't know.
- 26:33Speaker 5: All that quarterback stuff's tough, Like forget throwing the ball,
- 26:37Speaker 5: like calling the play in the huddle, like they're still
- 26:39Speaker 5: giving me ship because I called one play on the wristband.
- 26:42Speaker 5: It was a double reverse pass and like the whole game,
- 26:44Speaker 5: it was so loud, and so the quarterbacks in there
- 26:47Speaker 5: just screaming, like we had to have a guy taking
- 26:49Speaker 5: a knee in the middle so.
- 26:50Speaker 8: We could shorten up the circle just sweetly.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Bro and uh, and so I'm like, damn, I gotta
- 26:57Speaker 5: yell this play call. I mean, while the play calls,
- 26:59Speaker 5: it's that that long and uh, I'm screaming the play
- 27:04Speaker 5: and George is like, dude, like.
- 27:06Speaker 8: It was the one time it was quiet.
- 27:08Speaker 5: So like the whole defense is like that we can
- 27:10Speaker 5: hear you like, I'm like, oh shit, so quiet my
- 27:14Speaker 5: voice down for a little bit.
- 27:15Speaker 8: But now calling the play in the huddle is more.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Difficult than people's make What about turbo package? Why not
- 27:21Speaker 3: go into your You guys have like some on the
- 27:22Speaker 3: ball stuff. You have like one one word and that's
- 27:25Speaker 3: what you're gonna call and that's it.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Yeah, we yeah, we have that. We but I don't know.
- 27:28Speaker 5: I don't know the quarterback trbo package. Juice might but
- 27:32Speaker 5: there you go, put juice in. There's so many like
- 27:36Speaker 5: there's so many what ifs, man, and like you should
- 27:38Speaker 5: have done It's like, but I don't know.
- 27:40Speaker 3: It just it just sucked absolutely, I mean from the
- 27:45Speaker 3: perspective opening wounds and then joking way and I know
- 27:49Speaker 3: you're allowed to carry three quarterbacks, like I meant.
- 27:51Speaker 5: I had a comment earlier this week in the media
- 27:53Speaker 5: where I was like, I wish they changed that rule
- 27:55Speaker 5: and people are like, well, you can change you can
- 27:57Speaker 5: carry three quarterbacks.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I'm like, I know that.
- 27:59Speaker 5: I just mean, you have fifty three guys active, but
- 28:02Speaker 5: only how many suit up forty forty.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Eight forty six shoot up forty eight can suit up now,
- 28:06Speaker 3: but you have to but you have to suit up
- 28:08Speaker 3: an extra offensive lineman. Almighty first seven. My whole point
- 28:12Speaker 3: I was like, I know that.
- 28:13Speaker 5: I just wish one of those extra active players could
- 28:15Speaker 5: be a third quarterback because nobody wants to watch that.
- 28:18Speaker 5: That's not no like, it's it sucks for us, it
- 28:21Speaker 5: sucks for fans, it sucks for everything.
- 28:22Speaker 8: You're like, dude, this is there's so you know, people's lives.
- 28:24Speaker 5: It's and look I'm bitter and then the wounds are
- 28:27Speaker 5: still fresh and I'm pissed off, and I get it.
- 28:29Speaker 5: I'll get over it. But that was just my initial
- 28:33Speaker 5: angry thoughts post game.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Dude, the hockey's got a rule, not necessarily a rule,
- 28:36Speaker 3: but there are literally guys in the stands that are goalies,
- 28:40Speaker 3: and they're like, like, there's two goalies that shoot up.
- 28:42Speaker 3: If both those goalies get hurt, that guy will literally
- 28:44Speaker 3: go down the locker room, suit up and go play goalie.
- 28:48Speaker 3: That while yeah, that would.
- 28:49Speaker 7: Be nice if you were able to do that, because
- 28:51Speaker 7: it does like and I know we're sitting here talking like,
- 28:52Speaker 7: oh we should have could It's like this, the chances
- 28:55Speaker 7: are nine nine percent chance you're still.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Going to lose the game.
- 28:57Speaker 7: Whoa well, I mean the way you was getting out
- 29:00Speaker 7: of hand, it's just like they had.
- 29:02Speaker 1: A quarter left to make something happen.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Yeah, what you're saying, you're not saying even with Brock.
- 29:07Speaker 7: And you're saying, like, oh, if you was, if he
- 29:09Speaker 7: would have acted as the quarterback into the bar, and
- 29:11Speaker 7: that means they would have won the game. It's like,
- 29:12Speaker 7: you know, you're kind of just like, well, everyone knows
- 29:15Speaker 7: it's pretty much gonna be over with.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but I thought you were saying if Brock played
- 29:19Speaker 3: the entire game, Oh no, no, no, no, okay, just
- 29:21Speaker 3: when that game you really think so, you really think so?
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 29:27Speaker 3: You no, there there Those are both the two best
- 29:36Speaker 3: put together teams in the NFL. They were really they
- 29:38Speaker 3: were good.
- 29:38Speaker 7: Man.
- 29:38Speaker 8: I thought they're a good team.
- 29:40Speaker 3: You know.
- 29:40Speaker 5: You go into every game confident, and that's one thing
- 29:43Speaker 5: about Kyle, like he gets you to get you know,
- 29:45Speaker 5: with his game plans and stuff. You're like, oh, damn,
- 29:47Speaker 5: I'm excited for this game, you know, and and who
- 29:51Speaker 5: knows what would have happened. I just think, man, like
- 29:55Speaker 5: I just wish it didn't go that way.
- 29:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that is especially in that uh the first drive
- 30:02Speaker 7: to like they got that fourth down play and obviously
- 30:06Speaker 7: you guys are still in it.
- 30:06Speaker 3: So it's just like nobody's want to getting you have
- 30:08Speaker 3: that catch.
- 30:09Speaker 5: Different game, it's a different game. How about the punt.
- 30:13Speaker 5: The punt too, they're rough in the punter. Different game.
- 30:17Speaker 9: Who knows the game?
- 30:18Speaker 3: I'm talking on the couch. I know, I'm talking on
- 30:21Speaker 3: a couch. Yeah, but you're wearing that heart on that
- 30:23Speaker 3: sleeve right now, which is awesome. Forty nine We're gonna
- 30:26Speaker 3: absolutely love it. You had a comment. I think you're
- 30:29Speaker 3: on an NFL network media row. It might have been yesterday,
- 30:31Speaker 3: So you wish you hope both teams loose. Obviously that's
- 30:35Speaker 3: not gonna happen. Who do you not hope? But who
- 30:38Speaker 3: do you think? Actually, yeah, imagine there's a tie for
- 30:41Speaker 3: Super Bowl. That can't happen, right, No, it can't happen. No, No,
- 30:46Speaker 3: there's no way, there's no ties, there's no ties. Who
- 30:50Speaker 3: do you think is going to win this game? Because
- 30:52Speaker 3: we've been this has been like obviously the conversation for everybody,
- 30:54Speaker 3: especially here in this house. Everyone's talking over and over about.
- 30:58Speaker 1: How by the time this comes out, it's like it'll
- 30:59Speaker 1: be done.
- 31:00Speaker 3: It'll be done. Who you think we'll clip it real quick.
- 31:02Speaker 3: You set it out today.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I think I don't know.
- 31:12Speaker 5: It's so hard for me to like say one or
- 31:14Speaker 5: the other, you know, because I'm so pissed off.
- 31:16Speaker 3: You know.
- 31:17Speaker 5: It's like, so you think the Eagles, No, not necessarily,
- 31:20Speaker 5: not necessarily, I mean tough. They're a stacked team that
- 31:24Speaker 5: got you know, so many weapons on offense, and and
- 31:27Speaker 5: and that pass rush is serious. It's tough to bet
- 31:31Speaker 5: against Pat Mahomes ever, you know, in a game.
- 31:34Speaker 3: So, I don't know.
- 31:35Speaker 8: I hope it's a good game, though, I don't know
- 31:37Speaker 8: if I watch, but I hope it's a good game.
- 31:39Speaker 3: You think you're gonna watch the super It hurts that
- 31:42Speaker 3: bad hurts. It hurts. Brother. I can't. I can't imagine.
- 31:46Speaker 3: I mean I can't. I was in the Answer Championship once.
- 31:48Speaker 3: But that's gotta be fucking tough, you know exactly he's feeling. Yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 3: But like, I mean, we lost made it even tougher
- 32:00Speaker 3: because there's there is truly a like an argument for
- 32:03Speaker 3: what if Yeah, you know.
- 32:04Speaker 5: What I'm saying, if we got beat, I'd be like,
- 32:07Speaker 5: you know what, man, prop and and look you're gonna
- 32:10Speaker 5: clip that. By the way, Philly fans hate hate me
- 32:13Speaker 5: right now for the whole I hope both team anyway,
- 32:16Speaker 5: but dude.
- 32:17Speaker 3: It's Philly. They're literally that's what they do.
- 32:19Speaker 5: So but but like I you know, I'm not saying
- 32:22Speaker 5: we would have won. I am saying, you know, we'd
- 32:25Speaker 5: have had a chance and that would have been you know,
- 32:29Speaker 5: would have won.
- 32:31Speaker 3: But no, like that we would.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Have got it.
- 32:35Speaker 3: It's actually on Twitter right now.
- 32:38Speaker 5: No, But I just think having a chance is important
- 32:42Speaker 5: in the NFL football.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think Philly is gonna.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Win, So I do.
- 32:48Speaker 3: I think that's yeah, that's what I think Philly's gonna
- 32:50Speaker 3: win there. And then you had a fantastic point earlier
- 32:52Speaker 3: this week where that the way the Chiefs win is
- 32:55Speaker 3: off scripted place.
- 32:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that's I feel because I just feel like Philly
- 33:00Speaker 7: can line up and beat you eat, you know, both
- 33:02Speaker 7: ways on the ground to the air, which was tough,
- 33:04Speaker 7: which was what was shitty to watch with you guys.
- 33:06Speaker 7: You guys have such a tough defense, like seeing them
- 33:08Speaker 7: march down and like run the balls like fuck man.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Yeah, but this is the other thing about our team,
- 33:12Speaker 5: Like I just feel like we've been down in the
- 33:15Speaker 5: first half in multiple games this year where it was
- 33:18Speaker 5: looking like that, but our second half adjustments on defense,
- 33:21Speaker 5: like Demico Ryans had these dialed in the second half,
- 33:25Speaker 5: and I just feel like that was where we thrived.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Was that second half, that third and fourth quarter where
- 33:32Speaker 5: you know, we made a lot of way in that
- 33:34Speaker 5: second half.
- 33:34Speaker 3: So who knows, But you, guys have a lot of
- 33:37Speaker 3: guys in free agency this year.
- 33:39Speaker 5: We have some really important guys in free agency, but no,
- 33:42Speaker 5: we get a lot of guys back.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Yeah, who are the guys that are in free agency?
- 33:48Speaker 5: I'm gonna miss some of them, but I know, like
- 33:50Speaker 5: off the top of my head, mcglinche il right tackled
- 33:53Speaker 5: Jimmy Ward. I'm a big fan of Jimmy Ward's stud
- 33:58Speaker 5: I'm not sure receiver who.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Is up and who's not.
- 34:00Speaker 5: I don't I'm not still not familiar with how old
- 34:02Speaker 5: everyone is, so I don't know, like who's in the
- 34:05Speaker 5: free agent market. Those are the ones that jumped off
- 34:08Speaker 5: the right of way, and I think d line Charles
- 34:12Speaker 5: uh uh center mayback.
- 34:16Speaker 9: D line dude.
- 34:17Speaker 3: So McGlinchey is one of those dudes on the offensive
- 34:20Speaker 3: line that I feel like it's way more hate than
- 34:22Speaker 3: he deserves. I feel like everyone's always like trashing him,
- 34:25Speaker 3: but I feel like he's a pretty solid tackle. Yeah,
- 34:27Speaker 3: he's really good, Harry slid Yeah, I mean thirty tough.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Is you play on the opposite side of Trent Williams
- 34:34Speaker 5: your whole career, it's like, or not your whole career,
- 34:36Speaker 5: but like anytime.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You put the opposide of Trent Williams, Yeah, like that's tough.
- 34:41Speaker 9: Yeah, tough to like you're not you know what I mean?
- 34:43Speaker 8: Yeah, No, Mike's been nothing, but he's been great.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Can you imagine being a part of a franchise that
- 34:49Speaker 3: had Joe Staley for eleven years and then he leaves
- 34:52Speaker 3: and then you actually have an upgrade? I tackle that's
- 34:55Speaker 3: like the most wild ship. His tackle is like one
- 34:57Speaker 3: of those positions like there's so much a man and
- 35:00Speaker 3: there's hardly any supply. Yeah, one hundred percent. It's crazy.
- 35:04Speaker 3: I just think go line in general.
- 35:06Speaker 5: Now you can get a solid old lineman at any
- 35:08Speaker 5: of the five positions, but especially left tackle.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That's so hard to find. Brother, and he does. He has.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Trent has no sign of slowing down at all. He
- 35:17Speaker 3: looks he got better with the commander is now off
- 35:23Speaker 3: taking the year off, which I feel like, never happens, dude, Yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 3: never happened.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Sud Man, he's the free He's the freakiest player I've
- 35:30Speaker 5: ever seen in my life in person. And I don't
- 35:32Speaker 5: even know if it's close, like just practicing and like
- 35:35Speaker 5: it's stupid.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Does he practice hard?
- 35:38Speaker 8: He doesn't practice Wednesdays.
- 35:40Speaker 3: He does. Really, he does what he has to do. Yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 3: you could you get attest to that. Yeah, he does what.
- 35:45Speaker 5: He'll be on the side, but he's one of those
- 35:48Speaker 5: guys that you can do that.
- 35:49Speaker 8: Yeah, he's he's one of those guys that can Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I was gonna say that conversation with the lunch stable.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Genuine as hell, innocent as hell, Like I really am
- 35:57Speaker 7: waiting on the day where I walk in these doors
- 35:58Speaker 7: and someone challenges me a practic, Like he had that
- 36:00Speaker 7: comment when I was like a.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Rookie and he said that. He said that to Brian A.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Rackpo was like.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Remember I knew it was for real too. Like Bosa.
- 36:09Speaker 5: You know, every everyone knows Bosa in the year that
- 36:12Speaker 5: he's had. We were on the bus one time and
- 36:14Speaker 5: he's like, I got the hardest job in America, Like
- 36:17Speaker 5: what He's like, I gotta go against trend every day.
- 36:19Speaker 5: That's gonna be Defensive Player of the Year, saying like,
- 36:21Speaker 5: I got the hardest job in America going to like
- 36:24Speaker 5: that's yeah, it's it's stupid, man, it's stupid.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:28Speaker 7: I think he almost beat the ship out of somebody
- 36:30Speaker 7: on the Eagles, Sue at the.
- 36:31Speaker 3: End of the game. Bro, he's a little long buddy,
- 36:34Speaker 3: and get a little bit of a history of just
- 36:36Speaker 3: going off and did that the Richard Truman back in
- 36:38Speaker 3: the day.
- 36:39Speaker 1: He went after the he went after the dB W
- 36:42Speaker 1: the dB.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Ain't nothing wrong with that, you know, ain't nothing wrong
- 36:45Speaker 3: with that?
- 36:46Speaker 1: Box box Hey what I wanted to because Sue ended
- 36:49Speaker 1: up trying to get in there.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, I'm trying to That would have been
- 36:51Speaker 3: a nice little right.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Dude, and Dominic Consumers trip Williams.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Right, I think I think Trent takes that. Now though,
- 36:56Speaker 3: what's I think Trent takes that?
- 36:58Speaker 8: I'm not comming tho, man, I don't know.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like there's nobody I'm.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Actually what if I comment on that's gonna kill me?
- 37:07Speaker 5: Next year we play on kill me.
- 37:09Speaker 3: If he can catch you, Bro, you gotta believe yourself
- 37:13Speaker 3: being a catching you dude, when when you're training for
- 37:15Speaker 3: the COMMA, there's a video that came out about you,
- 37:17Speaker 3: Uh if you're doing like you were, like doing your
- 37:19Speaker 3: high knees over like some sort of like little little thing.
- 37:24Speaker 3: You know, the video we're talking about video? I think, uh, oh, yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 3: how much? How much did you?
- 37:31Speaker 9: Dude?
- 37:31Speaker 3: You're you're in a room, there's a TV going, and
- 37:34Speaker 3: you're stepping over this little like fucking step things like
- 37:37Speaker 3: this high and you're like going super fast. It looks
- 37:39Speaker 3: like it's fake. Do you remember that video? Okay, I
- 37:43Speaker 3: don't know. Is that video real? What a fucking question?
- 37:52Speaker 1: But is that real?
- 37:54Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Being an absolute beast at Stanford.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Such a.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Man, dude.
- 38:04Speaker 5: Yeah Yeah, Stanford was fun, man, And I think though
- 38:08Speaker 5: the football team was fun for sure.
- 38:11Speaker 3: We had a good team, man, Like I feel like.
- 38:16Speaker 5: People counted us out a lot and we didn't even
- 38:19Speaker 5: know how good we were. But there's like I want
- 38:21Speaker 5: to say, like twenty to twenty five dudes who I
- 38:24Speaker 5: played with in the three years I was there, who
- 38:26Speaker 5: were in the league, like in the league or just
- 38:28Speaker 5: got out like you know, who were jumping around for
- 38:30Speaker 5: a while.
- 38:30Speaker 8: I didn't know if we knew how good we were.
- 38:33Speaker 3: But it was fun.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Man.
- 38:34Speaker 5: I had a lot of good times. That rose bul
- 38:36Speaker 5: game was a blast. My second year was you know,
- 38:39Speaker 5: that whole year was fun. So I enjoyed it.
- 38:41Speaker 7: Are you like going through this season just and when
- 38:42Speaker 7: your shredding record, You're like, yo, this is fucking easy
- 38:46Speaker 7: out here.
- 38:47Speaker 5: I didn't know if I was going to start before
- 38:49Speaker 5: the season started, so my freshman year it was it's
- 38:53Speaker 5: the whole same running back room as my next year,
- 38:56Speaker 5: so and I was I didn't start my freshman year.
- 38:59Speaker 5: I was kind of a you know, third down utility guy,
- 39:02Speaker 5: part return, kick return stuff like that. My second year,
- 39:05Speaker 5: I got the NOD and our first game we loose
- 39:09Speaker 5: to Northwestern and I had to fumble in the game,
- 39:11Speaker 5: and I just remember like, like, this is gonna be
- 39:14Speaker 5: an uphill battle for me. That was our first game.
- 39:17Speaker 5: So we're ohen one lost to unranked Northwestern at Northwestern
- 39:22Speaker 5: and you just don't know what's gonna happen in your territory.
- 39:24Speaker 5: So it was yeah, and then it just started going
- 39:27Speaker 5: and going and going. I don't think it hit me
- 39:29Speaker 5: till the end of the year, but that was fun.
- 39:30Speaker 5: It's a fun team to play.
- 39:31Speaker 3: If you take Stanford out of it, what other what
- 39:35Speaker 3: college would you want to go to but the number
- 39:37Speaker 3: one college? Or what I would have Let's do both.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Where would you Where would you have gone if it
- 39:42Speaker 3: wasn't Stanford? And then if you had a choice of
- 39:44Speaker 3: any school besides Stanford, where where would you have gone?
- 39:46Speaker 8: I probably would have gone to Oregon.
- 39:50Speaker 5: That was like in the Michael James d Anthony Thomas
- 39:53Speaker 5: kind of era, and that kind of fit my style
- 39:56Speaker 5: just in high school, like same offense, the whole nine track,
- 40:00Speaker 5: all that stuff. But then, uh, I remember my dad
- 40:03Speaker 5: sat me down and he went over all the academic
- 40:05Speaker 5: stuff and I understood that, but he was like, if
- 40:07Speaker 5: you want to play in the NFL and like play
- 40:09Speaker 5: big dog football, you got to run in a pro
- 40:11Speaker 5: style offense. It is what it is because no one's
- 40:13Speaker 5: gonna think that you can run in a pro style offense.
- 40:17Speaker 5: And I was like, dang, you're right, like and he
- 40:19Speaker 5: was right, like I needed to run power, I needed
- 40:22Speaker 5: to run inside zone.
- 40:23Speaker 3: I need you were going to go to Organ. I
- 40:24Speaker 3: wasn't going to go to Oregon.
- 40:25Speaker 5: But I was debating between like Stanford, Oregon, Washington, and
- 40:28Speaker 5: then my older brother played at duke, so I was
- 40:31Speaker 5: highly considering going to play with you know, play a
- 40:33Speaker 5: duke with him too. So those were like the four
- 40:35Speaker 5: where I was pretty close to going to Yeah, how.
- 40:39Speaker 7: Pivotal was it for you to have your old man
- 40:41Speaker 7: as like a mentor for you?
- 40:43Speaker 1: It was growing up?
- 40:44Speaker 7: Yeah, the best like legit like is it growing up?
- 40:48Speaker 7: Was it one year out the other? And then it
- 40:49Speaker 7: got a little bit more you took more of his
- 40:51Speaker 7: of his advice, like when you got closer to college
- 40:54Speaker 7: or how was that? How was that relationship with him
- 40:56Speaker 7: growing up?
- 40:57Speaker 3: We?
- 40:57Speaker 5: Uh, so I have three brothers and I'm I'm number two,
- 41:00Speaker 5: and we all we all played football and all, you know,
- 41:04Speaker 5: played a bunch of different sports. But it was such
- 41:09Speaker 5: an advantage, man Like, we could go to him with
- 41:10Speaker 5: anything and he was never like, hey, you gotta.
- 41:13Speaker 3: He was tough. Man.
- 41:14Speaker 8: We had a time. It was we grew up great.
- 41:16Speaker 5: We you know, by any means where the farthest things
- 41:19Speaker 5: from spoiled. And it was hard at times, but we
- 41:23Speaker 5: had so much fun, man Like, I did everything with
- 41:25Speaker 5: my brothers and my older brother kicked my ass every
- 41:28Speaker 5: single day and everything we did, and it was it
- 41:30Speaker 5: was so good for me and and having my dad,
- 41:34Speaker 5: you know, obviously as an outlet at any time we wanted.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Was was great.
- 41:39Speaker 5: I think not just for like, hey man, you know,
- 41:41Speaker 5: if you're running a route and under fifteen yards you
- 41:43Speaker 5: should never take more than three steps when you break,
- 41:46Speaker 5: and like different things like that, and how to cut
- 41:48Speaker 5: and how to plan and how to do this and that.
- 41:50Speaker 5: It was more like the emotional side of it and
- 41:53Speaker 5: how to handle your emotions when things happen. Because we
- 41:56Speaker 5: were all we were always really competitive. We never needed
- 41:59Speaker 5: like a hey man, you gotta try harder. It was
- 42:01Speaker 5: always really important to us. So that was never like
- 42:05Speaker 5: he didn't you know. He was big on effort and
- 42:07Speaker 5: grades and all these things. But I think like how
- 42:09Speaker 5: to handle your business and how to you know, deal
- 42:13Speaker 5: with emotions when you're on the field was important for
- 42:16Speaker 5: me to learn at a young age because if I
- 42:17Speaker 5: didn't have him, I don't know, you know, I don't
- 42:19Speaker 5: know what would have happened.
- 42:22Speaker 3: I gotta follow up.
- 42:24Speaker 7: You mentioned it being like it was hard at times,
- 42:27Speaker 7: Like what were the hard times? And when I say hard,
- 42:31Speaker 7: how the old man was tough on you? It's like
- 42:32Speaker 7: hard as a you know, when you're a kid like
- 42:34Speaker 7: it was. Now it's not hard.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 42:39Speaker 5: Look, we would get grounded for real if you got
- 42:41Speaker 5: jersey tackle like seven eight years old. If you got
- 42:44Speaker 5: jersey when you wear the big jerseys, Yeah, you get
- 42:46Speaker 5: grounded if you get jersey.
- 42:47Speaker 9: Oh really.
- 42:49Speaker 5: Your ground depot tape that double sided tape. I'm eight
- 42:54Speaker 5: and double side tape my pads. This is you know
- 42:56Speaker 5: they didn't have the velcrobe and double side tape my pads.
- 42:59Speaker 3: I never got.
- 43:00Speaker 8: I was running through everybody, no jersey tackles ever.
- 43:03Speaker 5: You know, he would cut like certain slits in the
- 43:06Speaker 5: pant to give you like more neeflection, like back in
- 43:09Speaker 5: the day at eight years old, doing like dynamic warm ups.
- 43:12Speaker 8: Dude, no SODA's bedtime seven thirty.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Yeah, Like he would take they would take our phone
- 43:17Speaker 5: until I left for high school at like a time.
- 43:19Speaker 8: He's gonna hate me for saying all this, but.
- 43:21Speaker 3: It works if you.
- 43:23Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know if he's gonna listen to it,
- 43:25Speaker 5: but but yeah, like that's was like we you know,
- 43:27Speaker 5: when diet was always important, sleep was always when now
- 43:30Speaker 5: we were kids, man, like we could go over to
- 43:31Speaker 5: the friend's house.
- 43:32Speaker 3: It wasn't like a you know, like anything like that.
- 43:34Speaker 5: But when it came to sports into school, it was, hey,
- 43:39Speaker 5: if you want to be here, here are the things
- 43:42Speaker 5: that you need to do. Like like Friday in my
- 43:45Speaker 5: off periods, like he would come pick me up. I
- 43:48Speaker 5: was in high school. We go, you know, like middle
- 43:52Speaker 5: of the day, getting Ivy. What Oh yeah, we're getting
- 43:56Speaker 5: We're getting just saline Ivy's game day because I remember
- 43:59Speaker 5: one game I cramped against Grandview High School, like my
- 44:03Speaker 5: sophomore year, first game in the fourth quarter. Calf cramps,
- 44:06Speaker 5: double calf cramps. It's like, you're never cramping again. Ivy's
- 44:09Speaker 5: never cramped again.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 8: And I like even like little things like you wearing jeans.
- 44:15Speaker 5: Like aren't my school was a private school, you had
- 44:16Speaker 5: you wear jeans or you know, no sweats whatever, you
- 44:19Speaker 5: were in jeans to school. He doesn't even remember this,
- 44:21Speaker 5: but I remember it. It's pretty heavy on legs, don't
- 44:24Speaker 5: you think, like you know, like you're kind of right
- 44:28Speaker 5: war sweats got in trouble then this is like, look, dude,
- 44:31Speaker 5: you gotta be comfy during the day. You gotta be relaxed,
- 44:33Speaker 5: Like this is how you act on a game day,
- 44:35Speaker 5: Like this is what you do, like all that pep
- 44:37Speaker 5: rally shit, like don't be yelling, don't be loosing your
- 44:39Speaker 5: voice when you're out in the sun. If you squint,
- 44:42Speaker 5: your wasting energy, like make sure you have like I'm talking,
- 44:45Speaker 5: and I didn't realize. So like people who like know
- 44:48Speaker 5: me now and they see how you know, taking how
- 44:51Speaker 5: I take care of my body and like the warm
- 44:53Speaker 5: ups and all these stuff. It's like that's been like
- 44:56Speaker 5: bread in us since I was a kid, Like it's
- 44:58Speaker 5: been taught to a for the longest time, Like hey,
- 45:01Speaker 5: this is and that's what he did. And he was
- 45:04Speaker 5: over the top, Like there's guys in his team were
- 45:06Speaker 5: like what the hell is this guy?
- 45:07Speaker 3: This guy's nuts.
- 45:08Speaker 5: But you know, I mean I always felt like I
- 45:11Speaker 5: had a chimp on my shoulder and people were gonna
- 45:13Speaker 5: count me out, and so I was gonna do everything.
- 45:14Speaker 8: He goed away in at like the washing. I mean
- 45:17Speaker 8: everybody did this.
- 45:18Speaker 5: But like I go on my Washington visit, I think
- 45:21Speaker 5: I was like one eight I had to be one
- 45:23Speaker 5: eighty two or something like that's how much I weighed.
- 45:26Speaker 5: And he put like we put like little ten ten
- 45:29Speaker 5: pounds like slit squares in my shoes or in my
- 45:33Speaker 5: socks in case they made me take my shoes off,
- 45:36Speaker 5: so that if you take your shoes off, you know
- 45:38Speaker 5: obviously they're still in your socks. And I ended up
- 45:41Speaker 5: weighing like one ninety eight. I had like a thick
- 45:44Speaker 5: pair of puffy jeans on, like the whole nine. Every
- 45:47Speaker 5: trick in the brother you could think of. No to
- 45:51Speaker 5: the University of University of Washington.
- 45:54Speaker 3: So your daddy your going pro the minute you came
- 45:57Speaker 3: out of the way.
- 45:57Speaker 5: When when the coaches, when the college coach would come
- 46:00Speaker 5: to my high school, and like I was never small,
- 46:04Speaker 5: so to say, but I was always people would say
- 46:06Speaker 5: I'm small, Like for you know, I wasn't two thirty.
- 46:10Speaker 5: But he's like when the coaches come, like you got
- 46:14Speaker 5: to go knock out like twenty five in the bathroom.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Like so I would be doing push ups, bathroom floor
- 46:18Speaker 5: curls and with my backpack before like you know, some
- 46:22Speaker 5: QC from you know, Tennessee would come by. It has
- 46:26Speaker 5: no he's not gonna offer me at all anyway, but
- 46:29Speaker 5: my veins are popping out.
- 46:30Speaker 9: I'm like, coach, nice to meet. You're like, yeah, it was.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Like the whole nine. Yeah, hilarious, whole nine.
- 46:37Speaker 7: That makes sense because you were dressed you were dressed
- 46:40Speaker 7: up professionally when you visited Washington for your draft visit.
- 46:44Speaker 7: Because he was sitting in the special team's room with
- 46:46Speaker 7: the special teams coordinator.
- 46:48Speaker 8: Because remember we met that guy. I remember came in
- 46:50Speaker 8: and you're.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Like sitting there and you got like this college shirt
- 46:52Speaker 7: on everything else, Like, oh man.
- 46:53Speaker 3: I didn't. I didn't know. It wasn't twenty minutes break.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I remember.
- 46:56Speaker 3: I should I did. I did every visit I took.
- 46:58Speaker 5: I was like, I thought that's what people did it, Like,
- 47:01Speaker 5: that's why I did that.
- 47:01Speaker 8: If I knew, like, you know, that guy's kind of going.
- 47:03Speaker 5: Overboard, I probably would have, you know, maybe just not
- 47:07Speaker 5: to tie, you know, maybe not to tie, maybe just
- 47:09Speaker 5: the shirt.
- 47:10Speaker 7: It's just the fact that he's in the special teams
- 47:11Speaker 7: coordinator's office, like he's obviously gonna be a top running back.
- 47:15Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, and he's in there talking teams the coordinator.
- 47:19Speaker 3: You hard, Yeah, he's talking teams in every fifty minutes.
- 47:22Speaker 3: It's like, hey, coach, I had another bathroom, quick gets
- 47:23Speaker 3: another twenty yeah yeah, oh yeah, dude. He's got great
- 47:28Speaker 3: square shoulders and the great square shoulders.
- 47:31Speaker 8: So like people forget you played nine years in the NFL.
- 47:33Speaker 5: People forget like like funny and it's so it's well,
- 47:38Speaker 5: he said, you what it's like nine years in the league?
- 47:41Speaker 3: Man, that's pretty Let me get that. That's pretty impressive. No,
- 47:46Speaker 3: am I wrong?
- 47:47Speaker 9: No, you're right, brother, dude.
- 47:49Speaker 3: I think we're all kind of worried because I will
- 47:52Speaker 3: he played ten years now, ten years happened.
- 47:54Speaker 7: No, I was just thinking. I was just wondering. You know,
- 47:57Speaker 7: I've had a little compliment.
- 47:59Speaker 9: We'll call it.
- 48:01Speaker 6: Christop mc.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Respect.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you're eleven. You're Eleven's eleven? Well right now, that
- 48:08Speaker 3: is that's all eyes are on. You're eleven right now.
- 48:09Speaker 3: For Will Compton, when you years in the NFL, when
- 48:13Speaker 3: did you know like, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna make
- 48:16Speaker 3: it to the NFL had eight years old, I remember.
- 48:23Speaker 5: I would go to Like for me, it was I
- 48:25Speaker 5: always knew how hard it was to get to the
- 48:27Speaker 5: end like that. While while I knew I was good,
- 48:30Speaker 5: I always knew there was like another level and I'd
- 48:33Speaker 5: never gone against that other level. So I used to
- 48:35Speaker 5: go to those all American like the you know, the
- 48:38Speaker 5: FBU All American games. When I was in like the
- 48:41Speaker 5: seventh and eighth grade, and I just remember them hype
- 48:45Speaker 5: like they they thought I was the punter. They gave
- 48:48Speaker 5: me like the you know, the wrong they spelled my
- 48:50Speaker 5: name wrong on the jersey, and I just like stuff
- 48:52Speaker 5: like that mattered to me. And I just used to
- 48:54Speaker 5: piss me off so much, and it always like stuck
- 48:57Speaker 5: with me, and uh, they would hype up these other backs,
- 49:01Speaker 5: like these other guys you know, like so much, and
- 49:04Speaker 5: that was like the poster of their whole thing.
- 49:06Speaker 9: I'm like, mo, like, I'm looking better than that.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Dude, somebody you're thinking about. Who was somebody in the.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Guy you're thinking about right now?
- 49:13Speaker 5: He's my guy and I love him and he h
- 49:16Speaker 5: And by the way, at the time, looking back, he
- 49:18Speaker 5: probably he probably had.
- 49:19Speaker 9: The edge on me, which is tough to admit. Yeah,
- 49:22Speaker 9: it was Michelle.
- 49:25Speaker 5: Ran ten seven in the eighth grade, and you would
- 49:27Speaker 5: have thought this guy, I mean, he was an impressive
- 49:30Speaker 5: he played varsity as an eighth grader, and I just
- 49:33Speaker 5: remember like he was the gold standard in the middle
- 49:35Speaker 5: and talking, I'm talking about middle.
- 49:36Speaker 3: School football right now. I don't but you see you
- 49:38Speaker 3: playing eighth grade seriously, fat, how do you play varsity
- 49:43Speaker 3: in eighth grade.
- 49:43Speaker 9: American Heritage High School.
- 49:45Speaker 5: I and all his highlight tapes, like he didn't even
- 49:46Speaker 5: know this, by the way, like but now he does.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:49Speaker 5: I used to like like I don't know what the
- 49:52Speaker 5: rule was in Florida, but in in Fort Lauderder, I
- 49:55Speaker 5: guess like they let him play varsity. I mean he
- 49:58Speaker 5: was bawling five in high school, so he was, yeah,
- 50:02Speaker 5: he was, he was, you know, and then did the
- 50:05Speaker 5: same thing, went to the like army all American games.
- 50:07Speaker 8: Same and it's all the backs that are in the league.
- 50:09Speaker 5: So like, looking back, I should have been like, hey man,
- 50:11Speaker 5: you're in the right class, like these are good, you know,
- 50:13Speaker 5: good backs, but I was. It was still like I
- 50:17Speaker 5: always had to prove myself everywhere I've been, and you know,
- 50:20Speaker 5: I mean, it is what it is. I feel like
- 50:22Speaker 5: that's everyone's story. It's not like just me. I feel,
- 50:25Speaker 5: you know more, I talk to people more like yeah, same,
- 50:28Speaker 5: you know, but.
- 50:31Speaker 1: We all make up some ine me and or every.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody has their own.
- 50:34Speaker 8: Story absolutely like they I don't.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Know, I got like three guys in my head right now.
- 50:38Speaker 3: It's like I remember I remember looking at dudes being
- 50:40Speaker 3: like these guys fucking don't even know. Yeah, they have
- 50:43Speaker 3: no idea what's about.
- 50:44Speaker 5: To come combine e er y dude, I'll never forget it.
- 50:49Speaker 5: And I didn't even realize it either. I didn't look
- 50:51Speaker 5: at like the way they spelled my name, so I
- 50:53Speaker 5: did the whole thing. My buddies are hitting me up, like, dude,
- 50:57Speaker 5: Yeah damn though they disrespected you.
- 51:00Speaker 3: Yeah, how does that make you feel? You know what
- 51:09Speaker 3: it's like?
- 51:09Speaker 5: Because because I'm I get like salty like that, I
- 51:13Speaker 5: I notice it more like I'm sure most people who
- 51:16Speaker 5: aren't bitter like me, they're probably like, yeah, whatever, like
- 51:19Speaker 5: who cares, you know, and they're fine, it doesn't matter.
- 51:21Speaker 5: But because I like, you know what I mean, I
- 51:23Speaker 5: don't know, Like you said, you all you always create
- 51:25Speaker 5: an enemy, and I think that's what keeps guys going
- 51:27Speaker 5: Like I it's it's you. You have to keep that chip.
- 51:30Speaker 5: Otherwise it's it's just tough to find a purpose.
- 51:34Speaker 3: You're not You're not the minority. I feel like keeping
- 51:38Speaker 3: the chip, like, there's way more guys like that, and
- 51:40Speaker 3: most of the time that there are these successful guys
- 51:43Speaker 3: right that have that chip always that are like this,
- 51:46Speaker 3: people are out to get me and one one little
- 51:48Speaker 3: thing like spelling your last name wrong, Like this is
- 51:51Speaker 3: all I needed, Like this, this is the affirmation I
- 51:53Speaker 3: needed person to know. Yeah, you know that, like these
- 51:55Speaker 3: people are really truly out to get me.
- 51:57Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, that's how you feel. You're like, yeah, you
- 52:00Speaker 5: to fail, yes, yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 3: And and honestly, if you really were able to zoom out,
- 52:05Speaker 3: no one's thinking about you.
- 52:06Speaker 5: Didn't care less, not one person, probably the marketing dude
- 52:09Speaker 5: who like couldn't even like he's just putting together the
- 52:11Speaker 5: like doing the jerseys in the back.
- 52:13Speaker 8: It's not like, yeah, the NFL is not again.
- 52:15Speaker 3: Roger Goodell, Roger Goodell called was like, fuck it up, dude,
- 52:18Speaker 3: we cannot have a white running back in the NFL
- 52:20Speaker 3: right now. Oh the guy's name wrong?
- 52:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I know.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy, you know.
- 52:25Speaker 5: But and and sometimes it is like that, but you know,
- 52:28Speaker 5: there's real stuff that where you're like, man, somebody actually
- 52:31Speaker 5: might feel like that. But then you find the little
- 52:33Speaker 5: things that just kind of subconsciously confirm it. It's like
- 52:37Speaker 5: it's just keeping me alive right now, Like that's what's
- 52:39Speaker 5: that's what's waking me up.
- 52:40Speaker 3: You seem super fucking competitive. What's keeping you alive? Right now?
- 52:44Speaker 3: What's that game? That last game?
- 52:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah, oh yeah, that'll that'll I think everybody kind
- 52:48Speaker 5: of feels that, you know, the whole Yeah, I mean,
- 52:51Speaker 5: that's there's a lot you know. It was a good
- 52:53Speaker 5: revival of the year of like, all right, let's go.
- 52:57Speaker 5: You know that's how I feel.
- 52:58Speaker 1: You hope to play against Carolina soon.
- 53:01Speaker 3: That's gonna be awesome, Dude. That was the best possible
- 53:07Speaker 3: as you could have had. They are do you guys
- 53:09Speaker 3: play the next year? I don't think we play next year? Know,
- 53:12Speaker 3: I know, we don't plan.
- 53:15Speaker 7: You know, you know they don't have any other question,
- 53:17Speaker 7: I know.
- 53:17Speaker 3: I well, I just want to ask real quickly, what's that?
- 53:22Speaker 1: All right?
- 53:22Speaker 3: Cool? Eight minutes? All right? Uh, Matt Rule? He is
- 53:26Speaker 3: now the head coach of Nebraska. What things do you have?
- 53:30Speaker 3: Like obviously his time in Carolina was up and down.
- 53:32Speaker 3: He got fired, But what do you think he's going
- 53:36Speaker 3: to make him successful or if he's even going to
- 53:38Speaker 3: be successful in Nebraska? Like, what what can I look
- 53:40Speaker 3: forward to?
- 53:40Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 53:40Speaker 9: What can we look forward to? Seriously?
- 53:42Speaker 3: The boys will play hard?
- 53:45Speaker 5: Like that's one thing with coach Rule, you know, you
- 53:48Speaker 5: buy into his his way, Like guys play hard, man,
- 53:53Speaker 5: from top to bottom. I mean, you know the deal
- 53:56Speaker 5: in the NFL, how tough it is to coach in
- 53:58Speaker 5: this league, and a lot of things have to go right.
- 54:00Speaker 5: I always said, like head coaching, quarterback, way too much credit,
- 54:03Speaker 5: way too much blame.
- 54:05Speaker 8: But no I have I have nothing but good things
- 54:07Speaker 8: to say about coach Rull.
- 54:08Speaker 5: He he got us going, man, he really from from
- 54:11Speaker 5: the first year he got there too, And and the
- 54:13Speaker 5: different things that he did and learned in his time,
- 54:16Speaker 5: and his ability to change the things that he thought
- 54:20Speaker 5: were wrong I thought was impressive too, Like openness to
- 54:23Speaker 5: talk to guys, being able to, you know, say hey,
- 54:26Speaker 5: that was probably wrong of me to do, and then
- 54:28Speaker 5: change and actually go by it, you know, understanding like hey,
- 54:31Speaker 5: I don't have it all figured out.
- 54:32Speaker 3: I'm in year one two.
- 54:35Speaker 5: Adaptability, But I mean you saw the success he had
- 54:37Speaker 5: in college.
- 54:38Speaker 3: Man, that's I don't think it's a reason. Yeah, fires
- 54:42Speaker 3: me up. That's amazing. Well, it does seem like a
- 54:45Speaker 3: consistent message. Like as far as was Matt Rule, the
- 54:48Speaker 3: one was Christian, the one Matt Rule said saw his
- 54:52Speaker 3: family in the airport. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he had. He
- 54:55Speaker 3: was very complimentive of you said that you were walking out.
- 54:58Speaker 3: I think it was when he got when you got traded. Yeah,
- 55:01Speaker 3: and you saw his family and his kids in the
- 55:03Speaker 3: in the airport and you went up to them and said,
- 55:05Speaker 3: what's up?
- 55:06Speaker 5: Onward man, onward and upward you guys. Yeah, Yeah, it
- 55:13Speaker 5: was weird. Honestly, it's like, this is an interesting head.
- 55:16Speaker 5: Coach gets canned, I get canned.
- 55:17Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, brother, you didn't get canned. You know
- 55:20Speaker 3: I can. Yeah, No, you think you gotta tell you so?
- 55:24Speaker 3: Would they would they get in the trade? What did
- 55:25Speaker 3: Carolina get?
- 55:26Speaker 5: They got a two, three, a four, and a five.
- 55:29Speaker 5: Not all in the same year, I think. I think
- 55:32Speaker 5: it's over a couple of years.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Man, you know he told himself that too, like,
- 55:38Speaker 3: oh they didn't get.
- 55:38Speaker 7: Me a first Okay, okay, I know I would have
- 55:41Speaker 7: handled it, and I took that personal and yeah, dude
- 55:45Speaker 7: got it.
- 55:47Speaker 9: Uh And I've had.
- 56:02Speaker 5: I think one that comes to mind was the first
- 56:04Speaker 5: play of the Rose Bull. I was you know, that
- 56:10Speaker 5: was a game that I don't think anybody knew what
- 56:12Speaker 5: was gonna happen, and uh I was pissed off, and
- 56:17Speaker 5: uh I just lost the heisman. The boy Derrick Henry.
- 56:23Speaker 5: It was the boy.
- 56:23Speaker 3: By the way.
- 56:24Speaker 8: I love that guy, I really do.
- 56:26Speaker 5: I want to not like him, I can't. I love
- 56:30Speaker 5: his game, I love him. I think he's I think
- 56:32Speaker 5: he's great.
- 56:32Speaker 3: But then a couple of years ago, when you beat
- 56:34Speaker 3: us in Carolina, you're like, that's for you, Derek.
- 56:40Speaker 5: But that game, that game, you know, I think that
- 56:42Speaker 5: that play sparked just uh, one of those games where
- 56:48Speaker 5: just everything goes right for you. You know, I think,
- 56:50Speaker 5: like the safety came down the middle, linebacker slip so
- 56:53Speaker 5: there's no whole player. Then there's nobody behind the guy.
- 56:55Speaker 5: So I had to do is make him miss, and god,
- 56:57Speaker 5: it just house call. And I think we all knew,
- 56:59Speaker 5: like this is about to be one of those games.
- 57:01Speaker 5: And then and then the flip against uh, when I
- 57:04Speaker 5: jumped over that dude against Jacksonville. That was a fun play.
- 57:07Speaker 5: That hurt My back hurt for like six weeks after that,
- 57:10Speaker 5: But that was that was a memorable one.
- 57:13Speaker 3: That's fucking awesome. I know, right, makes you got anything,
- 57:16Speaker 3: Garrett jack.
- 57:29Speaker 5: We were winning, you know, I mean I think I think,
- 57:32Speaker 5: like I have a hard time like when you're losing,
- 57:34Speaker 5: like celebrating, like it's kind of like the urgency to
- 57:37Speaker 5: like get back to the huddle and get going a
- 57:39Speaker 5: little bit is you know, And you're not the first
- 57:43Speaker 5: person that said that, and I it might too be
- 57:45Speaker 5: just like when you get traded.
- 57:47Speaker 9: It's it.
- 57:49Speaker 5: There's a lot of pressure that comes with that because
- 57:51Speaker 5: you're on a new team, but there's also like an
- 57:52Speaker 5: amount of pressure that just gets off your shoulders. We're like,
- 57:55Speaker 5: you know what, man, Like, I'm gonna just go have
- 57:57Speaker 5: fun playing football because this is what I love to do.
- 57:59Speaker 5: And you know, I just think when you I, we
- 58:02Speaker 5: had so many tough seasons in Carolina that I wanted
- 58:06Speaker 5: more to celebrate than like the touchdown.
- 58:08Speaker 3: You know, I wanted to win games.
- 58:09Speaker 5: I wanted to be like, not just win one, get
- 58:11Speaker 5: win a couple in a row and then start to
- 58:13Speaker 5: get momentum. Then you start to see the boys having
- 58:15Speaker 5: a little more fun, but uh, just tough.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Sometimes that fires me up, dude.
- 58:22Speaker 7: I'm pleasure with the I'm glad you with san fran
- 58:24Speaker 7: because I feel like you guys are they can be
- 58:26Speaker 7: good for a while. They got the organization running smooth.
- 58:28Speaker 7: It's just getting to the fucking super Bowl.
- 58:30Speaker 3: Yeah right not. I can get Rogers though, Rogers say
- 58:33Speaker 3: he's not going to San Fran. You see that.
- 58:36Speaker 1: The Raiders might have a shot at him. We'll see, Yeah, if.
- 58:39Speaker 3: The Raiders are the big one, big one for him.
- 58:41Speaker 3: But I thought he said in a golf tournament, I'm
- 58:43Speaker 3: not going to San Fran. Yeah, I think he said,
- 58:46Speaker 3: Did you say that? I don't know. I don't know
- 58:49Speaker 3: why I am crushing this podcast?
- 58:51Speaker 1: What kind of father you think you're gonna be?
- 58:53Speaker 3: Kind of father?
- 58:54Speaker 1: Are we getting jersey tackles? We grounding the kids?
- 58:56Speaker 3: Or what are you doing that?
- 58:57Speaker 8: You gotta do what you know, That's all I know.
- 59:00Speaker 3: I'm all at a boy. I worry about that. Though.
- 59:02Speaker 5: I worry about that. It's like, is my kid gonna
- 59:04Speaker 5: hate me? Like, hey, man, come over here real quick.
- 59:06Speaker 5: We're gonna tape your jersey, put it in from the fireplace,
- 59:08Speaker 5: and do all this stuff.
- 59:09Speaker 3: And I was.
- 59:11Speaker 8: Like seven thirty, all right, I forget what got home
- 59:16Speaker 8: from hoops?
- 59:17Speaker 5: Like, but no, I mean it's funny because it started
- 59:21Speaker 5: to work, like when he did that, and I was like, damn,
- 59:24Speaker 5: like all right, that's the way it is.
- 59:26Speaker 3: That's the way it is.
- 59:27Speaker 5: And I enjoyed having success more than I enjoyed like
- 59:30Speaker 5: you know, staying up and all that stuff.
- 59:32Speaker 3: It was fun for me.
- 59:33Speaker 5: So I think all of us hated it at times,
- 59:35Speaker 5: but under we all understood it, all four of us
- 59:38Speaker 5: staf Yeah.
- 59:39Speaker 8: But yeah, So what am I gonna be? I don't know,
- 59:42Speaker 8: that's a good question.
- 59:43Speaker 5: Maybe my kid will like do music or something and
- 59:45Speaker 5: maybe teach me some stuff about I don't know, who knows, dude.
- 59:48Speaker 1: I appreciate you coming on.
- 59:50Speaker 7: And I just remember too, like your dad was your
- 59:52Speaker 7: dad was one of my first NFL action figures.
- 59:56Speaker 3: Oh nice.
- 59:57Speaker 7: Yeah, so watching this, mister McCaffery, you were one of
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: my first action figures.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: My dad, you know, white receiver, he white guy. You're
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: gonna be like him, gonna be you. Yeah, but thanks

- 1:00:09Speaker 8: Man, it's been guys having me. Man, appreciate you.
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: Talking about all the you know, forty nine or stuff.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: The trade. Yeah, it'll be.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: It'll it'll be a good insight for people to see,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: like what are your mindset was that? Because I know
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: a lot of people are wondering.
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: I can't wait for the stories with the old man
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: going coming out. I can see that stuff like Jersey
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: Jersey fucking getting ground.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: You might not see it, but one of his buddies
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: is gonna see it, and you see this, he's like
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: hunt what he said, what He's gonna go watch all
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: them videos, all the McCaffrey.
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: Brotherly Like yeah, hell yeah, yeah, that's awesome, dude.
