- 2:49Speaker 1: My name is Father James for quarters with Bellmore Academy,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and I'm an ordained Catholic priest. I'm originally from a
- 2:56Speaker 1: wonderful place called County Meath in Ireland that came here
- 3:00Speaker 1: to the United States some thirty years ago to join
- 3:04Speaker 1: my other brothers in the priesthood and to minister to
- 3:08Speaker 1: the youth of America as a school administrator, and attained
- 3:12Speaker 1: the position there as the headmaster at Bellmar Academy. Not
- 3:17Speaker 1: soon as soon, I should say, soon thereafter. And are
- 3:22Speaker 1: we doing a backstage pass? Oh? They already did that. Okay.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I have with me coach of an indoger and we're
- 3:28Speaker 1: here on the program this evening for a very special
- 3:32Speaker 1: I have to ask him, are you okay? It got
- 3:35Speaker 1: a hell of laha?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Is he got he's got some?
- 3:38Speaker 1: Is your jaw locked? Up is edit la Lla.
- 3:41Speaker 2: This was our announcer. Ladies and gentlemen, beck I have
- 3:44Speaker 2: the microphone now you'll get it in a minute.
- 3:46Speaker 1: All right, this was our announcer. You just heard him
- 3:49Speaker 1: and for some reason he's got his jaw locked up.
- 3:51Speaker 1: What happened? Did did the jaw come loose? I let
- 3:55Speaker 1: it go. I don't understand the thing this guy is saying.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Mister Dickman, you can help her. And so we're here
- 4:04Speaker 1: this evening to raise money for the new facility that
- 4:08Speaker 1: we're building for our girls at Belmar Academy, for our
- 4:11Speaker 1: female athletes. We'd love to have a weight room. We're
- 4:13Speaker 1: going to have an indoor training track, we're going to
- 4:15Speaker 1: have nautilust equipment. We're also going to have a weight room,
- 4:20Speaker 1: dial event to the weight room, and we're also going
- 4:22Speaker 1: to have other facilities. I think they're going for a
- 4:26Speaker 1: pickleball court.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I think they're doing some badminton court. So we are
- 4:32Speaker 1: here to appeal to you, those of you who are
- 4:35Speaker 1: parents at Belmar Academy, and some of you who may
- 4:38Speaker 1: not be appealing to your better nature in helping us
- 4:42Speaker 1: raising money for the wonderful people the wonderful students, the
- 4:45Speaker 1: wonderful parents, and they all around, wonderful guys and gals
- 4:49Speaker 1: and chicks and all that wonderful stuff there at Belmar Academy. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 1: good one, father, thank you. Now I'd like to bring
- 4:59Speaker 1: on a wonderful man, a man I can truly say
- 5:03Speaker 1: this about that. We would be nowhere. Without this gentleman.
- 5:07Speaker 1: We would not have raised them money that we have
- 5:09Speaker 1: raised for our football teams, our basketball team, our track
- 5:13Speaker 1: and field. We would not have gotten the attention from
- 5:15Speaker 1: the world. Quite frankly, we're not for this wonderful man.
- 5:19Speaker 1: A former professional football player, a former professional football coach,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and now he is our very own head coach of
- 5:26Speaker 1: our harsity football team with a new season. And I
- 5:29Speaker 1: know that he took over for Jason Moron. Jason Moran
- 5:32Speaker 1: has moved on to greener pastors. I would say, wouldn't
- 5:35Speaker 1: you say that coach yet? And I'd like to introduce
- 5:38Speaker 1: him to you and tell you a little bit about
- 5:41Speaker 1: him as well. Here is coach Vernon Doser.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't do that, Thank you very much, Boto
- 5:48Speaker 2: mc quarters. I want to say first off that I'm
- 5:52Speaker 2: grateful to Phil Henry for this platform to be able
- 5:56Speaker 2: to talk to you about Belmore Academy and about how
- 6:00Speaker 2: you the listener and you, the contributing member of society,
- 6:06Speaker 2: has helped our school establish itself there in Glendale as
- 6:09Speaker 2: a pre eminent facility for college prep students eventually working
- 6:14Speaker 2: their way into the college ranks, as well as a
- 6:16Speaker 2: wonderful facility and institution for youth sports and athletics.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Now, can I just want to jump in here? Okay, No,
- 6:26Speaker 1: it's all right. I think Bill said it was all
- 6:29Speaker 1: right for you guys to go back and forth. What's wrong?
- 6:32Speaker 2: And nothing I wanted to get said? What I wanted
- 6:34Speaker 2: to get said.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Well, here's something I think people should know about you.
- 6:36Speaker 1: The coach. Coach Doser, as many of you know, was
- 6:42Speaker 1: a dancer and danced his way through a variety of
- 6:46Speaker 1: hamlets and villages. Right, yeah, all right, Well tell.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Them the story. Okay, I danced to raise money so
- 6:56Speaker 2: that I could travel and become a coach.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So you danced door to door, dance door to door? Yeah, okay,
- 7:01Speaker 1: there's nothing to be ashamed of. I think it's I
- 7:03Speaker 1: think it's he speaks great intestinal character, wonderful sense of
- 7:07Speaker 1: you that says you never give up you'll try anything
- 7:10Speaker 1: to realize your dreams. Is that? Is that true? I
- 7:14Speaker 1: would say that's true. Yes, I also found it from
- 7:16Speaker 1: Phil Henry. Not only did you dance, but you also
- 7:18Speaker 1: are a singer.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Well is that right, seriously, coach, Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: It's it's it's true. I sang.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But you sang door to door too, Yes, I did. Well,
- 7:30Speaker 2: why didn't you bring that up before? I? Well, I
- 7:35Speaker 2: didn't bring it up before? Now could you put those
- 7:37Speaker 2: chips away that you got a grain for your toy?
- 7:41Speaker 1: I know what they are. I thought they were very good.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I'd rather you, so go ahead, market, I think that
- 7:48Speaker 1: coach Dozer, Well you tell the story.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Well, I mean yes, I do sing, okay, and I
- 7:54Speaker 2: did sing door to door. The reason why I never
- 7:56Speaker 2: brought it up is because it was tough to get
- 8:00Speaker 2: people to stop laughing. Like, so that's the key, that's
- 8:05Speaker 2: the bottom, that's the what, that's the key to what
- 8:08Speaker 2: your problem is. Yeah, i'd say so. I mean I
- 8:11Speaker 2: would say that I dance door to door and immediately
- 8:14Speaker 2: you'd hear people going, you've heard this stuff. No, I've
- 8:19Speaker 2: actually have.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And so you were reluctant to let people know that
- 8:22Speaker 1: you sang.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I was relucted to let people know that I'm saying
- 8:25Speaker 2: because I thought i'd be molocked the same way.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Well, I'm here to tell you, and I think Margaret
- 8:29Speaker 1: would agree, and Bud and General Shaw when you General Shaw,
- 8:35Speaker 1: absolutely we want to hear you sing, and we think
- 8:37Speaker 1: that you're singing. Had you let people know about that
- 8:41Speaker 1: would have raised even more money for the school.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know, man, I just.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Are you all right?
- 8:50Speaker 2: This is getting into an area that I want people
- 8:53Speaker 2: to take me on my merriats as a great football coach,
- 8:56Speaker 2: as a great administrator, a great teacher, and a friend
- 8:58Speaker 2: of young people. And I want people to know that
- 9:02Speaker 2: I do all this as a head football coach because
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm a man and I'm not running around here like
- 9:10Speaker 2: some fig.
- 9:12Speaker 1: All right, coach, that's not necessary watch that. I'm sorry, sorry,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I didn't mean to say that. What did he say?
- 9:17Speaker 1: He used the F word. Oh, for God's sake, coach,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 9:21Speaker 2: People look at me and they go, oh you dance yo, hey, coach.
- 9:25Speaker 2: They'll unzip their flies and go yeah, and in other.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Words, they mock you. Yes, Well, we don't want them
- 9:31Speaker 1: to mock you. We want them to know that your talent, coach,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Vernon Dozer brought to Veil our academy down through the
- 9:37Speaker 1: years in the in the millions of dollars in terms
- 9:41Speaker 1: of support, millions of dollars in terms of support from
- 9:44Speaker 1: you being on the Phil Henry Show talking about your
- 9:47Speaker 1: career and talking about your history as a man that
- 9:50Speaker 1: danced door to door to raise money so that you
- 9:52Speaker 1: could you go out and get coaching jobs.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's that's.
- 9:56Speaker 1: How I felt about it, you know, all right, So
- 9:58Speaker 1: why not let people know? Oh, you're also a singer.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Did you sing door to door?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:03Speaker 1: I sing door to door because there's no reason in
- 10:06Speaker 1: getting resentful.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah, coach, this is something people should know about you.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You're a very very talented man. Now you got your degree,
- 10:13Speaker 2: and what I got my degree? And what what did
- 10:16Speaker 2: you take your degree in?
- 10:17Speaker 4: Oh?
- 10:17Speaker 2: Oh, oh, yeah, I took my degree in journalism. I
- 10:20Speaker 2: also had a physical education background. And you graduated from
- 10:25Speaker 2: where I graduated from Oxidental College, Occidental College here in
- 10:28Speaker 2: Los Angeles. Yes, And from there I went out and
- 10:31Speaker 2: on the you know, coaching and uh, man, are you
- 10:37Speaker 2: all right?
- 10:38Speaker 1: I'm kind of sick. Your coach is a I Bud,
- 10:42Speaker 1: Dickvan's going to give you some water. Yeah, can you
- 10:45Speaker 1: give us just an example.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Here's the thing, my singing voice, which some people think
- 10:51Speaker 2: is pretty good.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You know, I have a lot of these guys.
- 10:56Speaker 2: There's a whole bunch of chowderheads, and you know who
- 10:58Speaker 2: they are. What's your name again? I'm oh boy, oh,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I'm I'm sorry, fought of my cords. There's a few
- 11:03Speaker 2: of these chowhounds and chowderheads, a few these monks, monkets, monkeys,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and they all want to stand around with one hand
- 11:12Speaker 2: excuse me, miss Gray, one hand cupping there, you know
- 11:15Speaker 2: what's the other one pointing at you and their mouths
- 11:17Speaker 2: wide open with the big teeth going. You'd swear to
- 11:21Speaker 2: god there those four chimps. All right, Enough about the
- 11:23Speaker 2: chimpanzees in the truck, Well that's what they look like.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 11:26Speaker 2: They want to hear me sing.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They want to hear you sing, because I know, ladies
- 11:31Speaker 1: and gentlemen, Bud, why don't you mand the phones. Wouldn't
- 11:33Speaker 1: you like to hear Coach Dozer sing? And if you
- 11:36Speaker 1: hear him sing, won't you commit to Bellmar Academy and
- 11:39Speaker 1: our brand new athletic facility for our girl athletes. We
- 11:42Speaker 1: would just love it.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody's just call in now and call in now
- 11:48Speaker 2: what nothing, nothing at all.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Go ahead, coach you what's your favorite song?
- 11:53Speaker 2: You never love me never, you never love you, never
- 11:55Speaker 2: log off, you never log off, You never walk alone?
- 12:00Speaker 1: A beautiful song. Sing it first, ladies and gentlemen, Coach Verdondozer.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I use a song that I would sing door to door,
- 12:07Speaker 2: and a lot of the women liked it. And understand,
- 12:09Speaker 2: ladies and gentlemen, I was young, I was hungry. I
- 12:12Speaker 2: was hungry. All I wanted was something to eat, A
- 12:17Speaker 2: piece of bread, a lousy piece of bread. We don't
- 12:21Speaker 2: want this to be traumatic. No, no, it's okay. And
- 12:24Speaker 2: so I would do things, some of them pretty disgusting.
- 12:27Speaker 1: What do you think you're singing as one of them?
- 12:29Speaker 2: I didn't anyway, here.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Is coach Vernondozer. Go ahead, coach, and you'll never walk alone?
- 12:34Speaker 1: Right yeah, here, right here I go.
- 12:38Speaker 5: When you walk, when you walk through the world, hold
- 12:43Speaker 5: your head up high and don't be afraid up.
- 12:48Speaker 2: This one over here is laughing, all right, Bud Dickman, Hey, Bud,
- 12:51Speaker 2: get out of here, Oh my god, get out of
- 12:53Speaker 2: going one two. Can I work up to it? Go
- 12:56Speaker 2: right to anything you need, coachy, This helps me one.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Yeah, when you walk through the world, hold your head
- 13:05Speaker 5: up high and don't be afraid of the dark.
- 13:11Speaker 2: In an endless room with I don't know, I don't
- 13:13Speaker 2: forget the words, go.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Ahead, just do improversational lyrics.
- 13:18Speaker 5: When you walk through a storm, hold your head up
- 13:22Speaker 5: high and don't be afraid of the dark. At the
- 13:29Speaker 5: end of the storm, there's a go lit the sky
- 13:33Speaker 5: and the sweet silver song out the lark coach.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Verndozer now and a beautiful song, and'll never walk along.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Thank you very much, please, gentlemen. I sang this song.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I sang this door to door, and the women would say, yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 2: sing us a song, do a dance, and maybe we've
- 13:50Speaker 2: got some a slice of of roast beef between two
- 13:53Speaker 2: pieces of you know.
- 13:54Speaker 1: It was like that. So can you sing the song?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 13:57Speaker 1: It is.
- 13:58Speaker 5: When you walk through the storm, hold your head up
- 14:03Speaker 5: high and don't be afraid of the dark. At the
- 14:10Speaker 5: end of the storm, there's a golden sky and the
- 14:14Speaker 5: sweet silver song of the lark.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain,
- 14:23Speaker 6: though your dreams be.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Tossed and blown.
- 14:28Speaker 2: What what is he looking at.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Knock it off, Bud, Sorry, you give.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Me that look, Bud. You're doing the whole he did
- 14:34Speaker 2: the whole monkey tea thing.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But don't do that.
- 14:37Speaker 2: He's going e just like the monkeys do.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Let me see, walk on to the wind, walk on
- 14:42Speaker 6: through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart, and
- 14:54Speaker 5: you'll neverver walk all along.
- 15:00Speaker 1: You name.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Good?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, thank you.
- 15:10Speaker 1: That was very good, coach.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 1: People used to think it was some of the best
- 15:14Speaker 1: they'd ever heard. You.
- 15:15Speaker 2: People are kind of like half assn't it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, you kind of flatted out there.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna hold on. Wait, hold on now, coach, kick
- 15:22Speaker 2: your ass. I understand that you flanted, man, and.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I can't take it, Coach doser. Hold on, this is
- 15:29Speaker 1: father mcquarter's talking. Yes, you're losing it. You're losing it bad.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You're blowing it bad, Father mcquarters, Sir, with the greatest
- 15:36Speaker 2: of respect, I request permission to blow this monkey stand.
- 15:42Speaker 1: No, you have to stay. Mister Henry wants you here
- 15:45Speaker 1: co hosting. Fuck you just said fuck again? Dok him
- 15:48Speaker 1: twenty dollars. Father Staley's here docuim twenty bucks.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Oh yeah, let me.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Get this right. You are docking him pay when he
- 15:56Speaker 1: messes up. Could I ask you? What are you eatie?
- 15:58Speaker 2: I'm having some of these tortilla. Please don't eat while
- 16:01Speaker 2: we're on doing our show.
- 16:03Speaker 1: All right, let the record show. Miss Gray. Just she
- 16:05Speaker 1: just gave me the finger. That's right. She just flipped me.
- 16:07Speaker 1: She just tossed me a bone. You tossed me a bone,
- 16:10Speaker 1: that's right. So that's coach dozer.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's lovely singing.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't know. Well, why don't you like your own singing?
- 16:18Speaker 2: Because people would drive by and go high honey, you know,
- 16:22Speaker 2: in other words, the men.
- 16:24Speaker 1: What would the men do?
- 16:26Speaker 2: They call me honey and asked me if I want
- 16:29Speaker 2: to go on a date?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Now, did you have any shall I say, gay encounters?
- 16:35Speaker 2: Did this this is really turn dark and all of
- 16:37Speaker 2: a sudden, you know.
- 16:37Speaker 1: No want it all? Did you have gay encounters when
- 16:40Speaker 1: you were singing, dancing and so forth?
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:44Speaker 1: What's that? Yes? I had a couple. Well, there you go,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and now it's out in the open. Are you gay?
- 16:50Speaker 4: No?
- 16:51Speaker 2: I'm not gay. No, I'm not gay.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Dickhead? Oh he called me dickhead. Noh, I've been a
- 16:58Speaker 1: priest in the Condlict Church for going on thirty five years,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and nobody has ever called me dickhead that I can remember.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I'd like to thank you very much, though, coach, for
- 17:10Speaker 1: being our special guest. You sang beautifully, I sing like
- 17:13Speaker 1: a very No. You shouldn't use those words. You sing beautifully,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you really do. When do you get another song? Just
- 17:20Speaker 1: just hit us out with another song? Here's one.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I liked this speaking of Liverpool because the song I
- 17:27Speaker 2: just sang as the theme song of the Liverpool football team.
- 17:31Speaker 2: And here is a song that was sung by one
- 17:33Speaker 2: of Liverpool's big fans and Jerry Marsden, and a big
- 17:38Speaker 2: hit that they had jearing the pacemakers go something like this,
- 17:42Speaker 2: two three and one two three yeah yeah.
