- 0:16Speaker 3: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 0:20Speaker 3: dot Com.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Oh, we're on air. I didn't hear an intro? What's
- 0:33Speaker 2: going on here? All right?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Well, welcome to It might be our best intro ever.
- 0:38Speaker 2: No, usually we have the music and I don't know
- 0:41Speaker 2: what's going on here.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Brit stay ready so you don't have to get or right.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Someone's ready.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It is Tuesday here at Jolette Stadium, and we're back
- 0:50Speaker 2: to our normal time. It seems like it's been a
- 0:52Speaker 2: minute since we've been here at noon to two, but
- 0:57Speaker 2: we will be here until two. It's tomorrow. It's me,
- 0:59Speaker 2: it's Paula, it's Evan, it's Matt and Nabooth not playing
- 1:02Speaker 2: intros like what happened? Can you tell us?
- 1:06Speaker 4: I think we probably should have heard it.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Usually I can't hear you.
- 1:11Speaker 6: I make a generic intro after training shows. Our speaker
- 1:14Speaker 6: is broken.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I don't know. Okay, this is going to be a problem.
- 1:18Speaker 4: What if we don't even have doubt. We can't.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I can't hear Simon. Simon very unprofessional. But anyway, at
- 1:26Speaker 2: least our studio looks good.
- 1:28Speaker 4: You hear me?
- 1:29Speaker 2: All right? So we have a lot to talk about. Walls,
- 1:32Speaker 2: fantastic Patriots have been practicing, We've had a game since
- 1:35Speaker 2: our last noontime show here. Uh So, like I said,
- 1:39Speaker 2: there's a lot to discuss. Uh. Topic number one I
- 1:44Speaker 2: would say has to be Drake May.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I don't think there's any question about it.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I think, in my opinion, he's been doing well. I
- 1:51Speaker 2: don't think he's been doing well enough to the point
- 1:55Speaker 2: where I could say he is head and shoulders of
- 2:00Speaker 2: of Jacoby.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Prise us term. If he goes out and lights it up,
- 2:05Speaker 7: then maybe we'll have a different conversation. I don't think
- 2:08Speaker 7: he's gone out and lived up now. He has definitely played,
- 2:11Speaker 7: but better with each passing day.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But I think that the criticism that everybody's had is
- 2:18Speaker 2: that he hasn't been given the opportunity to light it
- 2:20Speaker 2: up with the people that he should be lighting it
- 2:24Speaker 2: up with. And I think that's a fair argument. I
- 2:27Speaker 2: really do.
- 2:28Speaker 4: I do too.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah, what does everyone else think?
- 2:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I've been disappointed, but maybe that's selfishly disappointed because
- 2:36Speaker 6: I want to see it before they close the doors.
- 2:40Speaker 6: So I don't know how much of it is that
- 2:42Speaker 6: you know, this would cause a start. If we get
- 2:45Speaker 6: out there and practice tomorrow and Drake may is the
- 2:48Speaker 6: first quarterback up with David Andrews in the starting offensive line,
- 2:52Speaker 6: that's going to be a major story in a major shakeup.
- 2:55Speaker 6: So they have three more practices that are open to
- 2:57Speaker 6: the media. They have a week next week where they'll
- 3:00Speaker 6: probably do some stuff to prep for the Bengals, but
- 3:03Speaker 6: aren't going to be full game week yet. Maybe next
- 3:06Speaker 6: week is the week behind closed doors that they start
- 3:08Speaker 6: to give him some looks with the starting offense.
- 3:11Speaker 5: And I feel like you can't use the offensive line
- 3:14Speaker 5: solely as a crutch. Yes, it needs work, and we've
- 3:16Speaker 5: seen them rotating guys in and out throughout practice this
- 3:19Speaker 5: week after that Thursday night preseason game, but guys have
- 3:22Speaker 5: played against played behind bad offensive line. Stroe Burrow had
- 3:25Speaker 5: to do it his rookie year, so I think you
- 3:27Speaker 5: can't use it as a crutch. But I would like
- 3:28Speaker 5: to see him get some reps with the ones.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Is it too late or is there still a chance
- 3:34Speaker 2: that he could do something that would make the coaches say, yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know, Drake May has to start Week one.
- 3:40Speaker 6: I don't think it's too late. I don't think it's
- 3:42Speaker 6: too late because they're all running the same plays, Like,
- 3:44Speaker 6: even though he's not running with the top offense necessarily,
- 3:47Speaker 6: they're all running the same playbook. So it's not like
- 3:49Speaker 6: he's going to be thrown into a completely different playbook
- 3:53Speaker 6: once he gets up with the first team offense. I
- 3:55Speaker 6: just the one thing I would say about Drake May
- 3:57Speaker 6: and where we're at with the whole thing, is that
- 4:00Speaker 6: I'm not ready to do any victory lapse just yet.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Too early for that. We haven't played a regular season
- 4:04Speaker 6: game yet. But all the comment commentary before the draft
- 4:09Speaker 6: that he was gonna have to sit for an entire year.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Some people are saying he might even need to sit
- 4:13Speaker 6: for two years.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Well, okay, yeah, but that's that's very few and.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Far no, no, no, the one year was not few
- 4:21Speaker 6: and far between. That was a lot of people that
- 4:24Speaker 6: said he needed a red shirt season. A lot of
- 4:26Speaker 6: people's right. And we're at the point now where I'll
- 4:32Speaker 6: take apologies because he's gonna play as a rookie.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Okay, all right.
- 4:36Speaker 7: He'sature, he's gonna know, but he's gonna play as a rookie.
- 4:40Speaker 6: I'm not saying that he's gonna it's gonna be an
- 4:42Speaker 6: m VP still, but.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I'm still saying he's going to start against the Bengals.
- 4:46Speaker 5: So I think that you can be somewhere in the middle.
- 4:48Speaker 5: I don't think that c. J. Stroud is an outlier
- 4:51Speaker 5: and that he's the only rookie that can go out
- 4:53Speaker 5: there and start for his team and look good. And
- 4:54Speaker 5: I also don't think that you need to be Jordan
- 4:56Speaker 5: Love and sit for two years before you can put
- 4:58Speaker 5: him out there. So well, so you can get we're
- 5:00Speaker 5: in the middle of that.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Great, But if Aaron Rodgers was our quarterback, he would
- 5:03Speaker 2: be sitting for two years. That's the point. I mean,
- 5:06Speaker 2: the Packers had not the Packers. Yeah, the Packers had
- 5:10Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers and he was still playing well and there
- 5:13Speaker 2: was no reason to play Jordan Love. That's a totally
- 5:16Speaker 2: different situation that the Patriots have right now and that
- 5:20Speaker 2: Houston had last year, if you know, so it's not
- 5:24Speaker 2: a fair comparison. You know, same with Steve Young and
- 5:29Speaker 2: Joe Montana and you know, you know, go down the list.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Well, that's entirely different. Steve Young wasn't a rookie, you know.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, well they brought him over from another league.
- 5:38Speaker 5: I do like how Jerd Mayo and his team have
- 5:41Speaker 5: a plan. They have a developmental plan for Drake May,
- 5:43Speaker 5: but they also are flexible with that plan. So if
- 5:45Speaker 5: Drake May comes out there and he has lights out
- 5:47Speaker 5: on Sunday, then Drake May has the opportunity to be
- 5:49Speaker 5: the starter. But I do think there's been a shift
- 5:51Speaker 5: from July twenty third, Jacoby is our starter, He's the
- 5:54Speaker 5: most pro ready to August nineteenth, we don't know who
- 5:57Speaker 5: our starter is week one.
- 5:59Speaker 7: I don't think he said he knew his starter of
- 6:01Speaker 7: week one on July nineteenth. He said, our starter on
- 6:04Speaker 7: July nineteenth is Jacoby Brissett. Yeah, he didn't say.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Well now he's not saying now he's saying we don't
- 6:10Speaker 5: know our starter week one.
- 6:12Speaker 7: He knows the starter today. I mean, all you have
- 6:15Speaker 7: to do is watch practice. You know who the starter
- 6:16Speaker 7: is right now.
- 6:17Speaker 5: But I would say that guy hasn't looked that great
- 6:19Speaker 5: a practice in the past couple of days. Drake May
- 6:21Speaker 5: has looked better than him in practice, but unless but.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Not in camp in general.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But unless the Patriots start their starters against the Commanders
- 6:31Speaker 2: and Drake May's allowed to be the quarterback and the
- 6:35Speaker 2: Commanders have their starters out, can the coaches be definitive that, yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 2: Drake May's ready. Like if he goes out there with
- 6:42Speaker 2: our starters against their scrubs, what's that proving? Well?
- 6:46Speaker 4: What if he just starts?
- 6:48Speaker 7: Like you know, Evan, I think made the point about
- 6:52Speaker 7: who he's playing with right like in practice, if that changes,
- 6:57Speaker 7: like every single day practice, every single rack, it's been like, yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 7: I don't really care about the game. I know, I'm
- 7:02Speaker 7: very consistent about this. Preseason games tell me absolutely nothing.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I know.
- 7:07Speaker 7: But in practice, if he starts, you know, going ahead
- 7:10Speaker 7: of Jacoby Brissett, that's when I will change my tune
- 7:13Speaker 7: and say they're thinking long and hard about week one,
- 7:17Speaker 7: it could be Drake May. If that doesn't happen in practice,
- 7:20Speaker 7: then it's not gonna. I don't think just magically happened
- 7:22Speaker 7: in week one.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I do like how in yesterday's practice though he did
- 7:26Speaker 5: get some of the starting offensive line, he got like
- 7:29Speaker 5: two or three guys.
- 7:29Speaker 7: From the starting Now I'm wondering what the offensive line is.
- 7:33Speaker 7: How much of that is because they want the rookies
- 7:36Speaker 7: they think are ascending, and how much of that is.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Starting the starting offensive line is taking snaps from David Andrews.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Until he does that in an actual live setting. Now,
- 7:46Speaker 6: he did it on Sunday. I think it was all
- 7:48Speaker 6: these days are melting together Sunday in it, but it
- 7:51Speaker 6: was a walk through period. It was the very end
- 7:53Speaker 6: of practice and it wasn't live. So until he takes
- 7:56Speaker 6: snaps from David Andrews live in eleven on elevens, he
- 8:00Speaker 6: not taken any starter reps and so he hasn't done
- 8:03Speaker 6: that yet, and maybe that that does mean week one
- 8:07Speaker 6: is lofty at this point. I just look at it
- 8:09Speaker 6: and I think this is becoming a very popular take
- 8:12Speaker 6: that let's get through the first month of the season.
- 8:14Speaker 6: What Jacobyber said, Well, there's some tough games in the
- 8:19Speaker 6: first month of that scheduled Niners at Jets on prime time,
- 8:22Speaker 6: opening against the Bengals. Let's get through that first month,
- 8:25Speaker 6: Let's see what the offensive line looks like, Let's see
- 8:28Speaker 6: what the receivers look like. And then Week five against
- 8:31Speaker 6: Miami here at home, where there's a couple of home
- 8:34Speaker 6: games in a row after that seems like a nice
- 8:37Speaker 6: sweet spot for Jacoba.
- 8:38Speaker 2: That's looking like the most likely outcome here, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but I'm still holding out hope.
- 8:45Speaker 4: If we have a point you started to make, I think.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I probably and I just lost train of.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Thought, honestly, Like, I feel like he could get those
- 8:52Speaker 5: reps ones we're not out of practice for the full
- 8:54Speaker 5: two hours.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Definitely possible, right, Absolutely a possibility, And.
- 8:59Speaker 7: I just want friend, like, at what point where you say, okay,
- 9:02Speaker 7: I no longer think it's a possibility.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Is if he makes an announcement.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Sunday morning at you know o'clock.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Because I think that May was going to make an announcement.
- 9:11Speaker 2: At some point he said he was okay.
- 9:14Speaker 7: I think at some point he's going to say, Jacoby
- 9:17Speaker 7: Brissetts our starter week one. And it's not just going
- 9:20Speaker 7: to be like once, as Tamara said, once we're no
- 9:23Speaker 7: longer allowed.
- 9:24Speaker 4: To watch practice. Yeah, they're going to tell you who.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I think they're going to to announce it the way
- 9:28Speaker 4: everybody else.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It's this whole thing of like that Gerard said after
- 9:32Speaker 2: the game on Thursday. You know, it's an open competition
- 9:36Speaker 2: at all positions, including the quarterback. It's a little bit
- 9:40Speaker 2: different a quarterback. This is we're in a holding pattern.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It's not a competition. It's we're waiting until Drake May
- 9:46Speaker 2: is ready.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And that, to me, you better not be.
- 9:49Speaker 2: A competition because then you wasted a third round pick.
- 9:51Speaker 4: That to me is is the the number three overall pick.
- 9:55Speaker 4: You mean, what did I say, third round?
- 9:58Speaker 7: I know overall just wanted to I knew what you meant,
- 10:00Speaker 7: but that that's to me all this comes down to it.
- 10:04Speaker 7: There's a lot of talk about and when I talk
- 10:08Speaker 7: about this, it sounds so disrespectful, and I don't mean
- 10:10Speaker 7: it to be, but there's a lot of talk about
- 10:12Speaker 7: Brissette and how he's sort of he's slipped now. I
- 10:15Speaker 7: thought he had a good day yesterday. I thought that
- 10:17Speaker 7: was kind of you know, we don't talk about underreported stuff.
- 10:20Speaker 7: I thought Brissette threw the ball really well yesterday. The
- 10:22Speaker 7: bomb to Taekwon Thornton was perfect. I thought he was
- 10:27Speaker 7: good yesterday. He has not played well for I would
- 10:31Speaker 7: say the last five or six days.
- 10:33Speaker 2: But he was terrible day.
- 10:34Speaker 7: He was terrible in the game against the Eagles. He
- 10:39Speaker 7: got away with more bad plays than the one that
- 10:41Speaker 7: everybody talks about. I thought he had Austin Hooper on
- 10:45Speaker 7: the first third down. I thought he panicked in the
- 10:48Speaker 7: pocket with a guy hanging on his leg and threw
- 10:51Speaker 7: a ball up for grabs in the middle. Later and
- 10:53Speaker 7: then obviously the pick in the end zone.
- 10:55Speaker 2: He did this in between yesterday he was it was different, yes, sir,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and he's got it on. But yet he was scrambling
- 11:01Speaker 2: around and then he threw a pass without getting.
- 11:05Speaker 7: But point, my point was more about it. To me,
- 11:09Speaker 7: it doesn't matter what Jacoby Brissett does. If anybody entering
- 11:14Speaker 7: training camp had any doubt as to who the better
- 11:18Speaker 7: player is, Drake May or Jacoby Brissett, I don't think
- 11:22Speaker 7: you're doing it right. I don't think you're watching. That's
- 11:25Speaker 7: not what's in question here. The only question here to me,
- 11:29Speaker 7: and I think with Girod Mayo and Alex van Pelt,
- 11:32Speaker 7: is at what point do we feel mentally from a
- 11:35Speaker 7: development standpoint, Drake May is ready to play right now.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Jacoby Brissett can go on an NFL field and run
- 11:42Speaker 7: an NFL offense. I don't think he could do it
- 11:44Speaker 7: as well as Drake May can. If May had all
- 11:48Speaker 7: of the mental capacity to do it. I don't think
- 11:51Speaker 7: anybody would argue from a physical stampo.
- 11:53Speaker 4: So I think people.
- 11:54Speaker 7: Say, well, what if he throws picks, so well, that
- 11:57Speaker 7: stinks that Brissett's throwing picks.
- 11:59Speaker 4: It's stinks.
- 12:00Speaker 7: But if the other kid's not ready, you can't just
- 12:02Speaker 7: put them in because your guys throwing picks.
- 12:04Speaker 2: But by the way, I don't care if Drake may
- 12:05Speaker 2: Go's in and throws picks.
- 12:07Speaker 4: But that's not my point.
- 12:08Speaker 7: If they feel like he's ready, then I can live
- 12:10Speaker 7: with him throwing thirty picks if they feel like he's
- 12:12Speaker 7: ready and he's learning. If he's not ready, he's not
- 12:15Speaker 7: going to learn. That to me is what they're wrestling with.
- 12:19Speaker 7: I don't think this has much to do with Jacoby Brissett,
- 12:22Speaker 7: and it's sort of like it's an exaggeration of what
- 12:25Speaker 7: Evan said on one of our first podcasts when you
- 12:29Speaker 7: said I don't really care about Jacoby Brissette, and I
- 12:32Speaker 7: know he came off really like, but I know what arrogantly.
- 12:36Speaker 7: I know exactly what Evan was talking about, and I
- 12:38Speaker 7: feel exactly the same way I did that day. Now,
- 12:41Speaker 7: Brissette was pretty solid most of the time. Now he
- 12:45Speaker 7: hasn't been pretty solid. It doesn't matter to me. It's
- 12:48Speaker 7: all about where May is mentally.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And I don't know the answer to that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Because it can't matter how good or bad Jacoby Brissette is.
- 12:56Speaker 2: When Drake May is ready, he will.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Play point where it's not about Drake May being ready,
- 13:03Speaker 6: because I think Drake May is ready. I thought he
- 13:05Speaker 6: was readily. I thought he was ready to well. I
- 13:09Speaker 6: think when we got into the game, he looked calm,
- 13:12Speaker 6: he looked poised, he looked his composure was good in
- 13:15Speaker 6: the pocket. And the one thing that I was really
- 13:18Speaker 6: waiting to see when we got into a live game
- 13:20Speaker 6: setting was his mobility and the ability to scramble, extend
- 13:24Speaker 6: plays out of structure, all that kind of stuff. And
- 13:27Speaker 6: he's got that ability to do that, at least what
- 13:30Speaker 6: we saw on the game in Thursday night. So all
- 13:32Speaker 6: those things tell me that is every throw going to
- 13:35Speaker 6: be on time? And is every read going to be
- 13:37Speaker 6: perfect and all that kind of stuff. No, but I
- 13:40Speaker 6: think that he's got enough of the baseline physical traits
- 13:43Speaker 6: that he can survive for now in that setting. I mean,
- 13:47Speaker 6: so many quarterbacks have told us that year one rookie
- 13:52Speaker 6: season they don't know how to read defenses, they're not
- 13:54Speaker 6: getting the ball out with anticipation and you know, reading
- 13:57Speaker 6: things out like a Tom Brady would or something like
- 13:59Speaker 6: that at their processing speed. And they all just survived
- 14:03Speaker 6: on god gift. God's given gifts. So let me ask
- 14:06Speaker 6: you a question.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Elliott Will spoke. Elliott Will spoke on Sunday and he
- 14:10Speaker 2: mentioned it was good to see Drake May go out
- 14:12Speaker 2: there and just play and and oh, I think Matt's
- 14:17Speaker 2: working on the speaker. It's working now. You know. It
- 14:21Speaker 2: was good to see him just play with some freedom
- 14:23Speaker 2: and just be himself and and all that stuff. Do
- 14:26Speaker 2: you think that's a Drake May thing? Or was Elliott
- 14:30Speaker 2: Wolf kind of that was kind of not a dig,
- 14:33Speaker 2: but just addressing like some coaching that he's seen that
- 14:36Speaker 2: they're trying to make him too perfect, because he said,
- 14:39Speaker 2: you know, it's good to see him not out there
- 14:42Speaker 2: always trying to just be perfect. Is that was that
- 14:45Speaker 2: Drake May trying to be perfect? Were that the coaches
- 14:48Speaker 2: keeping a short leash on him?
- 14:50Speaker 6: I don't know. I think it's difficult, you know. I
- 14:52Speaker 6: asked Drake May about this a couple of weeks ago,
- 14:54Speaker 6: and he said it's difficult to emulate his playing style
- 14:57Speaker 6: in practice because he's in the red on contact jersey.
- 15:01Speaker 6: They're trying to get him to run plays like they're
- 15:04Speaker 6: scripted and like they're designed to be run, and his
- 15:09Speaker 6: improvisational skill is not really something that they're asking him
- 15:13Speaker 6: to do in a practice setting. They don't want him
- 15:15Speaker 6: to be working on that kind of stuff in practice necessarily.
- 15:19Speaker 6: So when we got into the game last Thursday night
- 15:22Speaker 6: and you saw some of that, I said, Okay, this
- 15:24Speaker 6: is what I've been waiting to see, is when he
- 15:26Speaker 6: can move around back there a little bit and he
- 15:28Speaker 6: can buy himself time and he can maneuver in the pocket.
- 15:31Speaker 6: You know, how does it look when all those things
- 15:33Speaker 6: are at his disposal and he's not just sitting back
- 15:35Speaker 6: there like a sitting duck on a third and ten
- 15:38Speaker 6: in practice with a red jersey on, And it looks
- 15:41Speaker 6: so much better to me watching him in that.
- 15:43Speaker 7: So I would say I don't necessarily take it as
- 15:46Speaker 7: like Elliot Wolf was taking a shot at the coaches,
- 15:49Speaker 7: But I do think they went out of their way
- 15:52Speaker 7: to change some of the things they asked him to do,
- 15:54Speaker 7: and they gave him some things that he was more
- 15:56Speaker 7: comfortable doing, he was best suited for they talked about
- 16:00Speaker 7: some things that he had done it North Carolina, and
- 16:03Speaker 7: I don't know if that's going to always be the case.
- 16:05Speaker 7: I don't know if they're going to change the offense
- 16:07Speaker 7: to better suit him. But I think that's why he
- 16:10Speaker 7: looked more comfortable. He looked awful two days earlier. I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 7: he looked like Brissett in May. Both were overwhelmed.
- 16:18Speaker 2: They could.
- 16:20Speaker 4: He couldn't block. But if it wasn't the only thing
- 16:23Speaker 4: that was going wrong, maybe that was the main thing.
- 16:26Speaker 4: It was the main thing.
- 16:27Speaker 7: Yes, but they were making bad reads, bad froze, you know,
- 16:31Speaker 7: for whatever it's worth. Drake himself talked to us the
- 16:33Speaker 7: next day in the production meeting about a lot of
- 16:37Speaker 7: the checkdowns.
- 16:38Speaker 4: That he did. The only completions that they.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Had were checkdowns, and he was really kicking himself for
- 16:44Speaker 7: accepting the checkdown too easily and not reading it through
- 16:48Speaker 7: and being more patient and going through his progression. And
- 16:51Speaker 7: then sure enough, the first third down on Thursday night
- 16:56Speaker 7: was that play that everybody's talking about in the indcut
- 16:58Speaker 7: to Baker with Poulk underneath. In practice, he was throwing
- 17:01Speaker 7: that to Polk for nothing, for like three yards. The
- 17:06Speaker 7: throw to Baker was a bigger play, and he sort
- 17:09Speaker 7: of let it happen and let it come through. Now
- 17:14Speaker 7: the skeptic would automatically say, well, yeah, it's a little
- 17:16Speaker 7: easier to do that when you know Jalen Carter and
- 17:19Speaker 7: Jordan Davis weren't in his lap right the way they
- 17:21Speaker 7: were on Thursday, because those guys didn't play in the
- 17:24Speaker 7: in the game and the way they were on Tuesday,
- 17:26Speaker 7: they didn't play on Thursday.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I think that he is.
- 17:30Speaker 7: I think he looked more comfortable in the game because
- 17:32Speaker 7: they asked him to do different things to Evan's point,
- 17:34Speaker 7: than they were asking him to do in practice, well,
- 17:36Speaker 7: like trying to be scripted and pert and run the
- 17:39Speaker 7: play exactly the way it's designed.
- 17:41Speaker 6: And when he's in the game he can get out
- 17:43Speaker 6: of dodge ye Like he's sitting back there and practice
- 17:46Speaker 6: in the pocket and he's trying to read things out
- 17:48Speaker 6: as quickly as he possibly can, and that's just it's
- 17:51Speaker 6: not his game. Like his game is the fact that
- 17:54Speaker 6: he's got extremely gifted physical tools and he's an improv.
- 17:59Speaker 6: He's an improv and that's good.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But that said, I'm going to now play the side
- 18:05Speaker 2: of the coaches. I don't want him improvising on every play.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'd like to see one two, three step drop, get
- 18:12Speaker 2: the ball out where it's supposed to go or you know,
- 18:16Speaker 2: uh so, And.
- 18:17Speaker 7: I don't want him going out there like, you know,
- 18:19Speaker 7: to Evan's point, like I think he has a physical
- 18:21Speaker 7: skill set that's really really good. I don't want him
- 18:25Speaker 7: going out there and quote surviving.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Right, I want him that means things are breaking down.
- 18:29Speaker 4: You know. I want because I know he can he
- 18:31Speaker 4: can get.
- 18:35Speaker 7: Yeah, but I think that if he's not ready to
- 18:38Speaker 7: sort of understand where pressure is going to come from
- 18:41Speaker 7: and things like that. And this is why I say
- 18:44Speaker 7: I don't care about what happens in the games, Like
- 18:47Speaker 7: please don't confuse anything you saw that the Eagles did
- 18:50Speaker 7: in that game with what he's going to really see
- 18:53Speaker 7: when it's when it's real, you know, like it's it's.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Just going to be night and day.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I mean, the players will be better. But
- 18:58Speaker 6: they actually ran some pretty exotic third down coverages against
- 19:02Speaker 6: him in the game that he handled well. I mean
- 19:04Speaker 6: the plate to Baker that a Baker drops the ball,
- 19:06Speaker 6: but that that's a Fangio, Yeah, that's a Fangio coverage.
- 19:11Speaker 6: That's a pretty exotic coverage for preseason. But my point
- 19:14Speaker 6: is more not that he's going to always play off script,
- 19:18Speaker 6: but the fact that he knows he can play off script.
- 19:22Speaker 6: It just it brought such a calmness to him that
- 19:24Speaker 6: I did not see in practice, because I feel like
- 19:27Speaker 6: in his head mentally, he's like, all right, well, I'm
- 19:30Speaker 6: going to go through the reads, but if nobody's open
- 19:32Speaker 6: or I don't feel good about it or whatever, then
- 19:34Speaker 6: I have this in my back pocket, Whereas in practice
- 19:37Speaker 6: that's not really the goal of the play, right, is
- 19:39Speaker 6: to do that kind of stuff. I felt that that
- 19:41Speaker 6: his poise, in his calmness, was because he knew if
- 19:45Speaker 6: I have to scramble because I don't like it, I'll scramble,
- 19:48Speaker 6: you know.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And that's why a.
- 19:49Speaker 7: Big, big picture, that's what I'm so excited about it.
- 19:51Speaker 7: And really physically he can do stuff.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I feel like he's only going to continue to get
- 19:55Speaker 5: better as he gets more reps. I feel like as
- 19:56Speaker 5: the game went on Thursday, he got better. And I
- 19:59Speaker 5: feel like in practice when especially yesterday, we saw like
- 20:01Speaker 5: three plays and eleven to eleven switch quarterbacks. Three plays
- 20:04Speaker 5: and eleven eleven switch quarterbacks whereas like in a game,
- 20:07Speaker 5: he's out there for the rhythm. Yes, versus three plays
- 20:10Speaker 5: where two of them are outside zone, and then in
- 20:13Speaker 5: the game you can actually see him actually read the
- 20:15Speaker 5: offense and stuff.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Well, speaking of rhythm, it's easy to drink, it's easy
- 20:19Speaker 2: to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the
- 20:22Speaker 2: New England Patriots and Bob's Furniture, says that preseason is
- 20:26Speaker 2: upon us and Bob's Discount Furniture is going head to
- 20:30Speaker 2: head with the competition. Dare to compare Bob's unbeatable lineup
- 20:34Speaker 2: of on trend, high quality furniture for every room, from
- 20:38Speaker 2: everyday seating to halftime snacks, setups that cost hundreds, even
- 20:42Speaker 2: thousands less than the competition. See how much you can
- 20:46Speaker 2: say when you dare to compare with Bob's Discount Furniture,
- 20:49Speaker 2: the official furniture store of the New England Patriots.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Can you guys hear me now?
- 20:54Speaker 2: Yes, yes, you're good? All right, we can hear Matt,
- 20:57Speaker 2: so we can take calls, we can do everything, all right.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Quarterback situation.
- 21:01Speaker 4: So I think we're all in agreement. We're excited about Yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 2: He's headed in the right direction.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Keeping I'm really hoping that if we are watching a
- 21:11Speaker 5: Sunday eight pm preseason game, then we're going to see
- 21:14Speaker 5: a lot of Drake May. Because if we don't see
- 21:16Speaker 5: a lot of him, I'm going to be one very
- 21:18Speaker 5: disappointed to probably very bored. But I think Sunday is
- 21:21Speaker 5: a great opportunity for him.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Okay, all right, hopefully they play a little bit of
- 21:26Speaker 2: the starters with him.
- 21:28Speaker 5: You know, I hope more than a little bit.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Because you know, you're going to see Poke and you're
- 21:33Speaker 2: going to see Baker because they're they're rookies. But I'm
- 21:35Speaker 2: talking about you know, I think everybody to see the
- 21:38Speaker 2: starting or we're going to see David Andrews. Are we
- 21:40Speaker 2: gonna you know.
- 21:41Speaker 6: See, I'm all set David Andrews very important player, like.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Anybody else can said.
- 21:50Speaker 5: You wanted to see Drake May with David Andrews though,
- 21:52Speaker 5: but not in practice. You don't want to see.
- 21:54Speaker 6: Him in the game, No, because I don't want David
- 21:56Speaker 6: Andrews getting hurt in the third preseason game.
- 21:58Speaker 7: I was a little surprised they're so willing to play.
- 22:01Speaker 7: Like Girod said it again, we should probably let the
- 22:04Speaker 7: listeners know. Some people don't follow everything he said, like
- 22:07Speaker 7: he did before the first preseason game, all healthy players
- 22:10Speaker 7: will play.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Yeah, like David Andrews, Mike on when who pop Douglass
- 22:14Speaker 6: from Andre Stevenson, I'll see you in Cincinnati. Like I
- 22:17Speaker 6: have no desire to see those guys.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I would agree with Evan on that I don't.
- 22:21Speaker 2: But but Gerard is saying all healthy play.
- 22:23Speaker 7: Healthy players will play. Now in the first game, a
- 22:26Speaker 7: lot of those guys ended up playing four plays.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean even last week he said the same thing,
- 22:31Speaker 6: and Kyle Duggart, Jabriel Peppers, Juwan Bentley, those guys ended
- 22:35Speaker 6: up playing. Now he said that some of those guys
- 22:37Speaker 6: have some bumps and bruises.
- 22:38Speaker 5: He said some of them earned it too.
- 22:40Speaker 6: But he said some of them earned it too. I
- 22:42Speaker 6: just I don't need to see it in the game with.
- 22:45Speaker 2: So, you know, this is a little bit of inside
- 22:48Speaker 2: baseball here. But at some point they want to get
- 22:52Speaker 2: get prepared for playing a regular game. And I know
- 22:56Speaker 2: Bill used to always, you know, when we weren't able
- 23:00Speaker 2: to watch, he bring the players into the stadium and
- 23:03Speaker 2: they go through that like what's what's halftime, like what's
- 23:07Speaker 2: you know, just just to get into the rhythm of
- 23:09Speaker 2: that on the field. But we have a lot of
- 23:13Speaker 2: concerts going on, and I know that we've got Kenny
- 23:19Speaker 2: Chesney and Zach Brown band that ends on Sunday. But
- 23:23Speaker 2: now there's two days of where the field's not available
- 23:26Speaker 2: after that. I wonder if you know what they're going
- 23:29Speaker 2: to do to get prepared.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Did say that they have been in the stadium.
- 23:32Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, I think you said that about a
- 23:34Speaker 7: week ago or so.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Maybe, but they also had two games. They did play
- 23:39Speaker 4: two preseason games. Okay, you know in the stadium. This
- 23:43Speaker 4: I think they're they're trying to use as like the
- 23:45Speaker 4: first road game, you know, that whole routine.
- 23:48Speaker 6: It does sound pretty important to them that it's the
- 23:51Speaker 6: first road game.
- 23:52Speaker 2: And then uh, all those procedures cutdowns are Tuesday.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Tuesday.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, you get the locker room back,
- 24:01Speaker 2: you know, because right now they have the you know,
- 24:04Speaker 2: we haven't been in there, but normally during training camp
- 24:07Speaker 2: they've got all those extra lockers set up down the
- 24:10Speaker 2: middle of the locker room to accommodate all the extra players.
- 24:13Speaker 2: You get that cleared out. It's you know, once you
- 24:16Speaker 2: get your team, you're fifty three plus your practice squad,
- 24:20Speaker 2: then you know, you want to get start getting ready
- 24:23Speaker 2: the way you would on game day and during the week.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Crowded in there. We've been in there after the game.
- 24:30Speaker 5: So after the games, you've been in there.
- 24:32Speaker 4: The big blue metal lockers in the middle.
- 24:33Speaker 5: No, they're off in the corner. Everyone's in cramped.
- 24:37Speaker 6: People have like the little alleyway there. That's like we're
- 24:40Speaker 6: all like the late round rookies u DFAs, they all
- 24:43Speaker 6: have split lockers back there. They might be using an
- 24:46Speaker 6: auxiliary room honestly for some of the other spillover. But yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 6: it's it's it's always a little crowd.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but at some point, like I said, once this
- 24:55Speaker 2: last preseason games over and they make their cuts, then
- 24:57Speaker 2: they want to get into their routine.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, awesome move guys like guys that make
- 25:03Speaker 6: the fifty three man roster will now be moved to
- 25:06Speaker 6: their position groups and then like guys that are on
- 25:09Speaker 6: the practice squad will take those lockers in the in
- 25:12Speaker 6: the corner. So that that always changes too. Like I
- 25:15Speaker 6: can't think of a rookie off the top of my
- 25:16Speaker 6: head right now, but a rookie that makes the fifty three,
- 25:19Speaker 6: that's a let's say he's the defensive back, so he'll
- 25:21Speaker 6: go move next to John.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You have any other concerts after Sunday? Is that? Where's that?
- 25:26Speaker 2: The last one?
- 25:27Speaker 8: No?
- 25:28Speaker 2: No, no, no, I think we have one in September.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I think. I don't know.
- 25:31Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 25:32Speaker 2: But this is what they were talking about. This is
- 25:35Speaker 2: why they wanted their own facility, and from what I understand,
- 25:38Speaker 2: in two years they will they'll have their own facility.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So there you go, all right? Eight five five past
- 25:43Speaker 2: five hundred. Is the ACE ticket hotline, web radio at
- 25:45Speaker 2: pages dot com. Is the email address? The last concert
- 25:50Speaker 2: on Sunday?
- 25:50Speaker 4: The PLL is in September.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Okay, well that's that's not a heavy impact like a concert.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It's amazing what they do at these concerts, how they
- 26:01Speaker 2: put those stages together.
- 26:03Speaker 5: And the Metallica one was insane.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy how they do that in such short order.
- 26:09Speaker 2: All right, let's get to the phones the ACE ticket outline.
- 26:12Speaker 2: We'll start with Todd, North Carolina. What's up, Todd?
- 26:16Speaker 9: Hey, guys, I got two related questions and it's just
- 26:20Speaker 9: rank it on a scale one to ten. How do
- 26:22Speaker 9: you feel that Mayo and will prepare for this season
- 26:25Speaker 9: up to this point? And how do you feel like
- 26:27Speaker 9: they prepared for the future, you know, with training judea
- 26:30Speaker 9: On and releasing Juju and all.
- 26:32Speaker 8: The rest of it.
- 26:33Speaker 9: And then I'll take the answer up there.
- 26:34Speaker 10: Thanks.
- 26:35Speaker 11: I love the show.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Thanks, thank you.
- 26:37Speaker 2: How have they prepared for the season, and how have
- 26:40Speaker 2: they prepared for the future. Well, I think number one,
- 26:43Speaker 2: they drafted Drake May So that's a pretty good future move.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Yep, the future seems like it. It's bright.
- 26:49Speaker 7: Certainly the Judon trade was made for the future. Yeah,
- 26:52Speaker 7: they get a pick next year.
- 26:53Speaker 5: I would say my biggest concern that if I was
- 26:57Speaker 5: rating this on a scale of one to ten, I
- 26:59Speaker 5: would probably be it like a five or six, is
- 27:02Speaker 5: because of the offensive line, and you really didn't address it.
- 27:05Speaker 5: And I talked to you about this yesterday, Fred. I
- 27:08Speaker 5: feel like they took an approach and took the equate
- 27:10Speaker 5: version of getting an offensive line put together. When I
- 27:13Speaker 5: need you to go out and get like an actual
- 27:15Speaker 5: luxury offensive line. You need to protect your young quarterback
- 27:18Speaker 5: after your draft a quarterback, you need to protect him,
- 27:20Speaker 5: and then also you need to get him some shiny toys.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Obviously they tried. They tried to go after Ayuk. I
- 27:26Speaker 5: get it. It didn't work. Out in their favor. But
- 27:29Speaker 5: I just it's a five for me at a scale
- 27:31Speaker 5: at one through ten.
- 27:32Speaker 6: Okay, their left tackle situation is a second guess, there's
- 27:35Speaker 6: no doubt about it. But the way that you get
- 27:38Speaker 6: players that you're talking about on the offensive line, especially
- 27:41Speaker 6: at left tackle. It was Drake may Or, it was
- 27:44Speaker 6: the left tackle, Like, you weren't gonna get that caliber
- 27:48Speaker 6: of left tackle on day two of the draft. Now
- 27:51Speaker 6: maybe you get lucky and Kayden Wallace is that guy
- 27:53Speaker 6: and you kind of hit on more of a lottery
- 27:55Speaker 6: ticket type of pick. But it's that's the one thing
- 27:59Speaker 6: I'll give the is that getting a left tackle of
- 28:02Speaker 6: that caliber when you had premium needs at quarterback and
- 28:06Speaker 6: receiver also all in one off season, something was going
- 28:10Speaker 6: to have to wait till next off season, right, something
- 28:13Speaker 6: like something was going to have to weigh.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That was that was the argument for trading down, is that, oh,
- 28:19Speaker 2: you can get all these other things, you know, but listen,
- 28:23Speaker 2: I'll give them a six on your scale, a little
- 28:26Speaker 2: bit higher than you. I think you can second guess
- 28:30Speaker 2: the judon timing. You know, Oh, if you had traded
- 28:33Speaker 2: in it before the draft, maybe you've got more. But
- 28:35Speaker 2: how many could you really have gotten a second If anything,
- 28:40Speaker 2: the only difference is you had would have had a
- 28:42Speaker 2: draft pick you could use this year.
- 28:43Speaker 6: That's the bigger thing to me.
- 28:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I think if you did it before the draft,
- 28:46Speaker 7: you could have gotten something to help you this year, absolutely,
- 28:48Speaker 7: or use that.
- 28:50Speaker 6: You know, they were in conversations to trade up back
- 28:52Speaker 6: into the first round for maybe a tackle or a
- 28:55Speaker 6: receiver the end of the first round. Now, if you
- 28:57Speaker 6: have an extra day to pick because of Jude On
- 29:00Speaker 6: being traded, now you don't feel so bad about parting
- 29:02Speaker 6: ways with one of those picks.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But a lot of people say, oh, they should have
- 29:06Speaker 2: known that he was never going to play here. I
- 29:07Speaker 2: think they honestly were holding out hope that maybe he
- 29:10Speaker 2: would play. And obviously this defense is better with Jude
- 29:15Speaker 2: on them without it, you know. So like man, if
- 29:19Speaker 2: he could have played this year, if they could have
- 29:21Speaker 2: worked something out, I think that would have been good.
- 29:24Speaker 4: I think that's a second year.
- 29:25Speaker 2: And if you don't care about this year, then you're
- 29:28Speaker 2: happy with the third round.
- 29:29Speaker 7: I'm not getting a you know, the tackle situation to
- 29:32Speaker 7: me as a legit second guest too, because Evan's right,
- 29:34Speaker 7: you knew going into the draft that you had to
- 29:36Speaker 7: take the quarterback at three, So that meant to me
- 29:39Speaker 7: you needed to have more urgency and free agency to
- 29:41Speaker 7: find a tackle who had left tackle experience, not just
- 29:47Speaker 7: a tackle like Chokes a Chors four.
- 29:49Speaker 4: And it's not his fault that he's only played right tackle,
- 29:52Speaker 4: you know.
- 29:52Speaker 7: I think that they really legitimately felt, and maybe I'm
- 29:55Speaker 7: reading too much into this, I think they legitimately felt
- 29:58Speaker 7: that a Corps four and K Wallace, one of those
- 30:01Speaker 7: two would be able to play left tackle.
- 30:03Speaker 4: I think they were hoping that's a miss.
- 30:05Speaker 7: That's a miss, Like, I don't know how you can
- 30:07Speaker 7: go in and assume guys that have only played on
- 30:09Speaker 7: one side can absolutely make the transition if it happens.
- 30:12Speaker 7: It's what Evan says, it's a lottery ticket. If Cayden
- 30:15Speaker 7: Wallace ends up being a really good left tackle, that's
- 30:18Speaker 7: a lottery ticket.
- 30:19Speaker 2: That's to give him a little bit more credit.
- 30:21Speaker 4: That's good fortune.
- 30:23Speaker 7: And right now it seems like they've already decided that
- 30:26Speaker 7: that's not going to happen this year for either one
- 30:28Speaker 7: of those guys, So that to me is a legit
- 30:31Speaker 7: second guess. I don't know who it was. Maybe Tyron
- 30:34Speaker 7: Smith or Jonah Winz. Maybe those guys had no interest
- 30:38Speaker 7: in signing with you. As far as I know, I
- 30:40Speaker 7: haven't seen any reports to indicate that the Patriots had
- 30:43Speaker 7: any interest in those guys. And I think that's a miss.
- 30:46Speaker 6: Yeah. I think, you know, with Jonah Williams, and you
- 30:48Speaker 6: could make the argument that they did this with Cheops anyway,
- 30:51Speaker 6: so it doesn't really matter. But Jonah Williams at this
- 30:53Speaker 6: stage of his career is a right.
- 30:54Speaker 7: Tackle, sure, but he just there had to be somebody
- 30:57Speaker 7: that's played in the league that's played left tackle. Yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 7: I he decided we're going to take someone who's played
- 31:03Speaker 7: in the league at right tackle and make him a
- 31:05Speaker 7: left tackle.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But who was that person?
- 31:07Speaker 6: I think the second Guestron Smith are the guy. Yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 6: Tyron Smith is one.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I has he even played yet? I mean, like, I
- 31:13Speaker 2: know they're managing him.
- 31:14Speaker 7: Heavily, but played like in preseason games now, no one
- 31:18Speaker 7: plays in preseason games.
- 31:20Speaker 6: He's been practicing, I think, but he's been practicing. Yeah,
- 31:23Speaker 6: I mean there's guys available now, you know, listen.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I love Tyron Smith, but I mean I don't know.
- 31:29Speaker 7: He may not have wanted to sign here. Yeah, Like
- 31:31Speaker 7: I'm not telling you that that's the guy that I
- 31:33Speaker 7: had to like. I'm going to bang the table and say,
- 31:35Speaker 7: you blew it. You didn't get him. I'm saying, there's
- 31:37Speaker 7: somebody who played left tackle that you could have signed,
- 31:40Speaker 7: and they chose to sign the right tack.
- 31:42Speaker 6: There weren't a lot of names Tyron Smith.
- 31:44Speaker 4: There are names that are offensive lineman.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Tyron Smith was the one guy. He was the one
- 31:50Speaker 6: guy that had was a true left tackle with experience
- 31:53Speaker 6: playing left tackle in the NFL. I don't know if
- 31:56Speaker 6: they went after him aggressively. I don't believe they went
- 31:58Speaker 6: after Jonah Williams aggressively. I know, I don't know about
- 32:00Speaker 6: Tyron Smith.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I don't think they were interested in either one.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah, to be honest, but why do you think that is?
- 32:05Speaker 4: Because I haven't heard one thing, and I heard a thing.
- 32:08Speaker 2: If it's true, why do you think they weren't interested.
- 32:11Speaker 6: I think that the price point for the quality of
- 32:13Speaker 6: player that they felt like they.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Were going to win it.
- 32:15Speaker 6: Smith getting ten, No, well he's getting fifteen. He wasn't
- 32:18Speaker 6: going to come here for that. They were going to
- 32:20Speaker 6: have to pay him real money to come here.
- 32:22Speaker 7: I think he wanted to play with Aaron Rodgers. But yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 7: I think that why what were they you know, why
- 32:27Speaker 7: weren't they interested? I think they legitimately felt like we
- 32:29Speaker 7: we can just make these guys left tackles. And that's
- 32:33Speaker 7: why I think that's a legit second guess.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Okay, so now you have a guy in Vederian Lowe
- 32:39Speaker 4: who you're hoping can make this.
- 32:41Speaker 6: Even more real.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Leap from what we saw last year, and it's evidently
- 32:47Speaker 7: the ability to use his hands that he never had
- 32:49Speaker 7: before is transformed.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Into the usually a GM does it.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Like I can just tell that, like I know, and
- 32:54Speaker 4: I tell Evan this all the time.
- 32:56Speaker 7: You know, I know nothing, Like it's not my thing,
- 32:59Speaker 7: Like I just know when a guy can't block, when
- 33:01Speaker 7: a guy gets around him, I say he missed his block.
- 33:03Speaker 7: I'm not a big offensive line guru, but I can
- 33:06Speaker 7: tell you my son's played offensive line pretty.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Much his entire football career. And he's a senior in night.
- 33:11Speaker 7: School and he has hit me with his hand in
- 33:13Speaker 7: the chest about nine thousand times, just when I walk by,
- 33:17Speaker 7: he gets.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Into a step slide and pops me.
- 33:19Speaker 7: Okay, So the fact that an NFL player didn't know
- 33:24Speaker 7: that you could strike someone with a hand.
- 33:26Speaker 4: It's kind of troubling to me.
- 33:28Speaker 2: He didn't know that.
- 33:29Speaker 7: No, he says he didn't do it because the first
- 33:31Speaker 7: time he's ever been taught. He said that specifically, he said,
- 33:34Speaker 7: I've never had a coach that teaches that taught this strike.
- 33:37Speaker 6: This strike systems.
- 33:38Speaker 4: Like I just can't believe.
- 33:40Speaker 2: That that's different than using your hand.
- 33:42Speaker 4: It's the hand that's the strike. I know that's what
- 33:44Speaker 4: it is.
- 33:45Speaker 6: But Stop Peters has a system. I mean, we don't
- 33:47Speaker 6: have to go into the minutia of it all.
- 33:49Speaker 7: It's a system, but it's a system of being a
- 33:51Speaker 7: hard ow and push ups on the field.
- 33:53Speaker 6: On Vederian Lowe has eighty eighth percentile arm length. His
- 33:58Speaker 6: arms are thirty five inches long, which is extremely long
- 34:00Speaker 6: for an NFL offensive tackle. So he's got good length
- 34:03Speaker 6: and he has improved in that area of his game.
- 34:07Speaker 6: I think he's more balanced now and he's using his
- 34:09Speaker 6: length better to keep guys at his fingertips. But his
- 34:12Speaker 6: issue to me is that he has these quick losses
- 34:16Speaker 6: where he just loses his technique and loses with less
- 34:21Speaker 6: than two and a half seconds of the ball being snapped.
- 34:23Speaker 6: That you just can't have, like That's how you get
- 34:25Speaker 6: your quarterback killed, right if you give the quarterback, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 6: the sack that they had in the game that everybody's
- 34:30Speaker 6: picking him on him. That took four point two seconds
- 34:34Speaker 6: for Nolan Smith to get off the chip, beat Vederia
- 34:37Speaker 6: and load of the inside and then sack Drake May.
- 34:40Speaker 6: The ball's got to get out, like, you can't hold
- 34:42Speaker 6: the ball for that long in this league. So to me,
- 34:44Speaker 6: I put that sack more on Drake May than I
- 34:46Speaker 6: do on the left tackle. Now, the chip wasn't executed well.
- 34:49Speaker 4: But I put it on miscommunication. Yes, I don't think
- 34:52Speaker 4: he knew the chip was coming, and that was one
- 34:54Speaker 4: of those things. I think he had him. I think
- 34:56Speaker 4: he was in good position.
- 34:57Speaker 7: Yeah, and then Kevin Harris hit him, sort of knocked
- 35:00Speaker 7: him right off of his set, right, Yeah, And I
- 35:03Speaker 7: don't think that he knew that that chip was coming. Now,
- 35:05Speaker 7: you could argue that it was Low's fault he should
- 35:07Speaker 7: have known the chip was coming, or you could say
- 35:10Speaker 7: Harris wasn't supposed to hit him.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Yeah, one of those two things is true.
- 35:13Speaker 6: Yeah, But it just that those types of plays to me,
- 35:16Speaker 6: are not the concern because if it's a miscommunication on
- 35:20Speaker 6: the chip. They'll get that cleaned up right and they
- 35:22Speaker 6: won't have those issues hopefully moving forward. If Drake may
- 35:26Speaker 6: gets the ball out quicker, then it's a non factor
- 35:30Speaker 6: that they miscommunicated on the chip. So I still feel
- 35:33Speaker 6: like Vederian Lowe has gotten a lot better. Now that
- 35:37Speaker 6: doesn't mean he's Joe Thomas, but he's he has improved
- 35:40Speaker 6: and maybe the strike system.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Well, Listen, I think a lot of the problems last
- 35:44Speaker 2: year was coaching or lack of and maybe a little
- 35:48Speaker 2: bit better coaching will help guys like Vederian Lowe. You know,
- 35:53Speaker 2: I mean, don't don't disregard coaching.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not disregarding coaching.
- 35:57Speaker 6: They have to survive the season at that position, all right.
- 36:00Speaker 2: So let's a talk quarterback. We talked offensive line. The
- 36:03Speaker 2: other part that's key for this offense is the wide
- 36:07Speaker 2: receiver room. Shuster's gone, so I think that's additioned by subtraction.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I mean, it clears up some of the questions. But
- 36:17Speaker 2: this little surge I think that Thornton's making does that
- 36:21Speaker 2: kind of muddy the waters for you guys in terms
- 36:25Speaker 2: of who's gonna make it on this team.
- 36:27Speaker 6: Oh, I had him on anyways, but I was maybe
- 36:30Speaker 6: in a little bit of a minority with that. But
- 36:33Speaker 6: the big reason why I've had him on this whole
- 36:35Speaker 6: time is because in this offense that they want to
- 36:38Speaker 6: run with Van Pel, somebody's got to take the top
- 36:40Speaker 6: off the defense, Like there has to be somebody that
- 36:43Speaker 6: can run down the field and either went on the
- 36:45Speaker 6: go route that we saw and went on yesterday in practice,
- 36:48Speaker 6: or occupy the deep safety or something along those lines.
- 36:52Speaker 6: If you don't have that element in this offense, and
- 36:54Speaker 6: it's really comes apart and nobody on this team, and
- 36:58Speaker 6: I granted I understand that that is an indictment on
- 37:01Speaker 6: the roster at receiver, but nobody on this team is
- 37:04Speaker 6: a better field stretcher than Taekwon Thort.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So my only want to move fast, draft fast play.
- 37:10Speaker 6: He's the best vertical threat they have.
- 37:12Speaker 5: My only problem with that and needing someone to take
- 37:14Speaker 5: the top off the defense and occupy them. He too
- 37:17Speaker 5: many times has stopped running his routes or he's not
- 37:20Speaker 5: running fast enough full speed he's running, and it's very
- 37:23Speaker 5: obvious that he is the decoy and the ball is
- 37:25Speaker 5: not coming to him. That's my biggest issue with him
- 37:27Speaker 5: and Also, his productivity in practice is not transcending over
- 37:31Speaker 5: the games because he's not staying healthy. So when I
- 37:33Speaker 5: see Taekwon stay healthy and actually producing a game and
- 37:36Speaker 5: actually be that great decoy, then I'm all about.
- 37:38Speaker 4: It, play it very much for this season game. I
- 37:42Speaker 4: hear you, though, I don't need to see what he
- 37:43Speaker 4: can do. I need to play.
- 37:46Speaker 5: Yeah, But I'm know I'm saying when he does play
- 37:48Speaker 5: in games, he's hurt.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Like Douglas history history.
- 37:51Speaker 7: Is not that great, so I need to If he's
- 37:53Speaker 7: going to get hurt, that's different. But like I think
- 37:55Speaker 7: he's been probably their sacon. I would say Douglas has
- 37:59Speaker 7: been the best receiver, but I think he's been the
- 38:01Speaker 7: second best receiver in he.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Camp, and I hope that translates over into Week one.
- 38:04Speaker 2: I think Polk has been the second best.
- 38:06Speaker 6: I wouldn't even I'm not ready for that conversation.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I wouldn't even have him. I think in that conversation.
- 38:12Speaker 5: Wide receivers right now, with how bad the tight end
- 38:15Speaker 5: room is and how thin it is, Like, is there
- 38:16Speaker 5: any warrior concern with what's happening with Hunter? Henry Mitchell?
- 38:19Speaker 4: Willcock a great one.
- 38:21Speaker 7: I want to I want to get your guys opinion,
- 38:24Speaker 7: Gerrod Mayo yesterday, So Hunter Henry's been out for a week.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Uh. Mayo has said.
- 38:33Speaker 7: In the past that it's not considered to be a
- 38:35Speaker 7: long term thing. He kind of indicated on w E
- 38:39Speaker 7: I in his first appearance yesterday in Patriots Monday here.
- 38:43Speaker 4: Locally that he.
- 38:47Speaker 7: How did he put it, He expected him to be
- 38:49Speaker 7: ready for the start of the season, something like that,
- 38:53Speaker 7: and that was kind of a departure to what he's
- 38:55Speaker 7: been talking. So he was asked to follow up yesterday
- 38:57Speaker 7: in a regular before practice, the regular press conference, and
- 39:00Speaker 7: I think Andrew Callian from The Herald asked him, is
- 39:04Speaker 7: his status for the opener in doubt? And he said no,
- 39:10Speaker 7: and then he I wish I had the exact quote
- 39:13Speaker 7: in front of me. He said no, and then he said,
- 39:17Speaker 7: but we'll see, you know, we'll see what you know.
- 39:20Speaker 4: How that works out. If he's ready to go, then
- 39:23Speaker 4: it is in doubt.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Right. See, this is where Bill was.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Right, like, his status to me for the opener is
- 39:27Speaker 4: in doubt based on that answer.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I don't know how you guys, this is where Belichick
- 39:31Speaker 2: has it right. There's no sense in getting into hypotheticals
- 39:36Speaker 2: about injuries or what you're thinking. You just don't. You
- 39:38Speaker 2: have no control over it, So don't wade into those waters.
- 39:43Speaker 2: You know, I would coach Girod not to do that.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Just stay away from injury.
- 39:49Speaker 4: And they're a good media coach. Brett I am, Yeah,
- 39:52Speaker 4: maybe what I am today Titans.
- 39:56Speaker 5: The question was Girod going back to the Titans quickly.
- 39:59Speaker 5: You volunteered this this morning that the guy should be
- 40:01Speaker 5: back relatively early in the season. Is Hunter Henry's status
- 40:04Speaker 5: for the opener in doubt? I wouldn't say it's in
- 40:06Speaker 5: doubt right now. We'll have to see. We still have
- 40:09Speaker 5: a lot of time. I think he'll be there, but
- 40:11Speaker 5: once again, when he's ready to play, he'll be out there.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Right So don't you think that that says two different things.
- 40:16Speaker 7: Absolutely absolutely, I don't think it's in doubt, but we'll see.
- 40:21Speaker 4: If he's ready to go, well, then it's in doubt.
- 40:24Speaker 2: The word think, yeah puts it in doubt, right yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 4: Right now, you're telling me like he could be there
- 40:32Speaker 4: week four or he could be ready to go week one.
- 40:35Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 40:35Speaker 6: I doubt has like a negative connotation. So when he
- 40:40Speaker 6: hears a reporter ask him, is his status in doubt.
- 40:44Speaker 6: He's like, well, look, calm down, you know, like it's
- 40:46Speaker 6: like one of those things where it's like it's not
- 40:48Speaker 6: his job, like he doesn't need to do that. You know,
- 40:50Speaker 6: it's to your point, like he doesn't need he doesn't need.
- 40:52Speaker 2: To do that. He's not obligated to do it. You know. Listen,
- 40:56Speaker 2: I remember when George Seffert was the head coach of
- 40:59Speaker 2: the Panthers. He'd literally bring out the team doctor to
- 41:02Speaker 2: address all these questions. I mean, that's it's a different philosophy, and.
- 41:06Speaker 7: I don't have any problem if you do that, because
- 41:08Speaker 7: it's one message. Andy Reid does it too, but it's
- 41:12Speaker 7: one message. It's here's here's my medical information. This is
- 41:15Speaker 7: what we're going off of. So in other words, you
- 41:17Speaker 7: have the information that I have. I think within a
- 41:21Speaker 7: paragraph he said two different things.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yeah, there's obligations for reporting injuries, and you should do that.
- 41:29Speaker 2: You should just do the minimum. Don't get into anything else.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I think maybe who knows, we'll see they just report
- 41:37Speaker 2: what you have to report and leave it at that.
- 41:39Speaker 4: But just make it consistent. That's all. That's all.
- 41:42Speaker 2: You have to be consistent.
- 41:43Speaker 7: If you say a guy's going to be able four
- 41:45Speaker 7: to six weeks. You can't the next week say he
- 41:48Speaker 7: might be out for ten or twelve weeks. Like you know,
- 41:52Speaker 7: I don't care if you give us the timetable or not.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Like if you want to give Wes like Bill did,
- 41:55Speaker 7: that's your you know, that's your prerogative.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Well you can say to six weeks and the next
- 42:01Speaker 2: week the team doctor comes back he's not progressing the
- 42:03Speaker 2: way we thought.
- 42:03Speaker 4: And then you say, the team that's what the team
- 42:05Speaker 4: doctor said, no issues.
- 42:07Speaker 2: But but but.
- 42:08Speaker 7: It's it's when you change like within the same answer.
- 42:11Speaker 7: Now I'm getting conflicted, and I think there's been some
- 42:14Speaker 7: examples of that with Gerrod. I think sometimes like we
- 42:17Speaker 7: have a plan with with Drake may right, it's it's
- 42:21Speaker 7: a v P and me.
- 42:23Speaker 4: We have this plan. Well, could he still be the
- 42:25Speaker 4: start week? Oh yeah, but what's the plan?
- 42:29Speaker 2: The plan is when he's ready.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Plan, I'm going to blow up that.
- 42:32Speaker 7: The plan is I might blow up the plan right,
- 42:34Speaker 7: just start them. Yeah, which is why I still don't
- 42:37Speaker 7: think that he's going to start week one, because I
- 42:39Speaker 7: think they've been pretty consistent with the plan.
- 42:42Speaker 5: The plan has been interesting because he always this was
- 42:45Speaker 5: that two days ago yesterday, He says, we always have
- 42:47Speaker 5: to be flexible in regard to the plan. Right now,
- 42:50Speaker 5: it's all going the right way, the right direction, and hopefully.
- 42:56Speaker 6: We need to make.
- 42:57Speaker 5: A movie, like how are we feeling about Jahaem Bell
- 43:01Speaker 5: because right now, like he's getting a lot of those
- 43:03Speaker 5: extra reps with Mitchell Wilcox and Hunter Henry Out.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Yeah, it's gonna come down to do they prioritize receiving
- 43:10Speaker 6: upside or blocking upside? Like jahem Bell cannot block in
- 43:13Speaker 6: line in the NFL. He got blown up in the
- 43:16Speaker 6: game and.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Then he came back yesterday in practice.
- 43:18Speaker 6: Yeah, he can't do that. But he's an explosive athlete
- 43:22Speaker 6: and I like them like me too, And this team
- 43:25Speaker 6: is so debiat of explosive playmakers that I almost feel
- 43:30Speaker 6: like they have to just take the chance on Jaheem
- 43:32Speaker 6: Bell that he could be one of those types of
- 43:34Speaker 6: guys you know in the draft. I always thought of
- 43:37Speaker 6: him as like a Johnny Smith type of player, probably
- 43:39Speaker 6: more of like a guy that's gonna be closer to
- 43:41Speaker 6: the line of scrimmage, but is really good with the
- 43:43Speaker 6: ball in his hands. He's got an explosive gear that
- 43:46Speaker 6: to me, is more important than Okay, Mitchell Wilcox is
- 43:49Speaker 6: a little bit bigger and a little bit sturdier as
- 43:50Speaker 6: an inline blocker, but it might not be more important
- 43:53Speaker 6: to them. If they really want to be this run
- 43:55Speaker 6: heavy team, then they might look at the tight end
- 43:58Speaker 6: as needed to block.
- 43:59Speaker 5: So evan take the injuries out of it. Say if
- 44:01Speaker 5: all the Titans were healthy right now, did you have
- 44:03Speaker 5: or would you have Jahamee Bell on your fifty three?
- 44:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:05Speaker 6: I would because the main reason is his upside. And
- 44:09Speaker 6: if right now, if I'm the Patriots, everything is a
- 44:11Speaker 6: got to have a long term view at it. And
- 44:13Speaker 6: if Jamee Bell can be an explosive playmaker for you
- 44:16Speaker 6: and somebody, that's a value add in the passing game,
- 44:20Speaker 6: that's a chance this team has to take right now.
- 44:22Speaker 6: I don't like no offense to Mitchell Willcox's the world,
- 44:24Speaker 6: but like those are the types of guys that they
- 44:27Speaker 6: can't get attached to.
- 44:27Speaker 7: You can get Mitchell will if you, if you like,
- 44:29Speaker 7: decide to roll the dice and say, you know, this
- 44:32Speaker 7: is Jeane Bell. I'm intrigued by his athleticism, and then
- 44:35Speaker 7: all of a sudden, it's like Jacob Hollister, Remember, like
- 44:40Speaker 7: he's he was.
- 44:40Speaker 6: Pretty good in SEEA And my apologies Hooper, who's the
- 44:43Speaker 6: other guy?
- 44:44Speaker 4: Maybe maybe it's maybe it's a sud film.
- 44:46Speaker 7: Well that is a felt which is the guy that
- 44:48Speaker 7: looked like he was a world beating all of a sudden,
- 44:50Speaker 7: he couldn't catch it, so it didn't work out, and
- 44:53Speaker 7: the guy's clearly not ready. You can always bring back
- 44:56Speaker 7: you know, maybe not Mitchell Wilcox personally him, but you
- 44:59Speaker 7: can always bring back a Mitchell Wilcox.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Brown, like three days before the season started last.
- 45:04Speaker 5: I also forgot Hooper and that conversation about tight ends.
- 45:07Speaker 5: I know that he was out with an injury. Is
- 45:09Speaker 5: he back?
- 45:09Speaker 6: He was back yesterday, but he was a little limited.
- 45:12Speaker 6: But that's like he'll be fine.
- 45:13Speaker 7: But to your point, if Henry's not ready at the
- 45:16Speaker 7: start of the season, that's big because I think that
- 45:20Speaker 7: the tight end specifically has been a huge part of
- 45:23Speaker 7: what they're trying to do. Henry was the best player,
- 45:26Speaker 7: but any of the receivers in camp before he got hurt,
- 45:29Speaker 7: and then Henry was out and Hooper was the target
- 45:32Speaker 7: in that like the preseason game joint practice and then
- 45:37Speaker 7: the early preseason Henry Hooper was the guy they were
- 45:40Speaker 7: looking for, so that's an issue if Henry's not there.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Agreed, all right, let's go to Sam in North Carolina.
- 45:48Speaker 2: What's up, Sam?
- 45:53Speaker 12: Get Drake May on the other time I wanted to
- 45:57Speaker 12: see the Coves did is when they paying for him
- 45:59Speaker 12: and they with Drake make took his job and he's
- 46:01Speaker 12: been a great mentor, and pay him back and Drake
- 46:03Speaker 12: make click Evan you Assistant offensive coordinator Paul is all
- 46:08Speaker 12: on TV. You guys use your pool and get him
- 46:10Speaker 12: on the field.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Thanks, all right, thanks Sam?
- 46:14Speaker 4: I love that call.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Yeah, he called. Also at the postgame show, he's going
- 46:18Speaker 2: to be all about getting Drake May out.
- 46:20Speaker 5: He's gonna play Sam. Sam is saying, throw out the plan,
- 46:25Speaker 5: get Drake May out there. What do you define as
- 46:28Speaker 5: lighting it up on Sunday?
- 46:29Speaker 2: Like?
- 46:29Speaker 5: Is it a statistic thing? Is it a you know
- 46:32Speaker 5: what you're seeing thing?
- 46:33Speaker 4: I can see on Sunday.
- 46:34Speaker 7: I could see it the next three days in practice, okay,
- 46:36Speaker 7: or or or next week.
- 46:38Speaker 4: I don't care, Like I just well, do.
- 46:40Speaker 2: You think you don't want to going out there throwing picks?
- 46:43Speaker 5: But do you want No?
- 46:43Speaker 4: I don't want that.
- 46:44Speaker 2: He's like nine of eleven.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Then okay, what if he's six or eleven for forty
- 46:48Speaker 4: four yards?
- 46:49Speaker 2: Six of eleven for forty four yards.
- 46:51Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what he wasn't just out of here.
- 46:52Speaker 4: I'm just throwing numbers out there.
- 46:54Speaker 2: What does it look like? I have to see what
- 46:55Speaker 2: it looks like.
- 46:56Speaker 6: He should have been seven for eleven for about one
- 46:58Speaker 6: hundred and something.
- 46:59Speaker 4: But this is hard, right about it all? But this
- 47:01Speaker 4: is just my point. But I don't care what.
- 47:02Speaker 2: He does on you know what I mean? If you
- 47:05Speaker 2: know what?
- 47:06Speaker 7: Like I said, I like the way it's at the
- 47:08Speaker 7: last few days, but I want to keep seeing that.
- 47:10Speaker 7: I don't think I would classify that as lighting it up.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Do you think it has to look good in practice
- 47:15Speaker 5: and the game for them to throw out the plan
- 47:18Speaker 5: or do you think they're more focused on the game
- 47:20Speaker 5: than practice practice?
- 47:22Speaker 7: May I always said it, practice is far more important.
- 47:24Speaker 7: He said that on a number of occasions.
- 47:26Speaker 6: I just I've already seen enough. My questions with Drake
- 47:30Speaker 6: May are not about is he ready?
- 47:32Speaker 4: I'm with you on this.
- 47:33Speaker 6: My question is is when is the best time for
- 47:36Speaker 6: him to play? And as we've argued about this on
- 47:39Speaker 6: Cash twenty two, to the point where people have asked
- 47:41Speaker 6: us to stop arguing about it.
- 47:43Speaker 4: That's not fair.
- 47:44Speaker 6: But the main thing that I would say at this
- 47:46Speaker 6: point is that.
- 47:47Speaker 2: It's time for him to play is when he's ready.
- 47:49Speaker 6: No, not necessarily. What if the team's not ready. What
- 47:52Speaker 6: if you're going to put what if the offensive line
- 47:55Speaker 6: is a sieve? What if they're going to go out
- 47:57Speaker 6: in primetime and get blown out by Aaron Rodgers? I
- 47:59Speaker 6: don't don't need to see that, Like he's their point.
- 48:03Speaker 7: Is, but do you think that there's less of a
- 48:04Speaker 7: chance if you put a quarterback who's not ready out
- 48:06Speaker 7: there of getting blown out?
- 48:08Speaker 6: No, I'm what I'm saying. I think Drake has been
- 48:10Speaker 6: ready the whole time.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I haven't.
- 48:13Speaker 6: I haven't waivered from that because he's the best quarterback
- 48:15Speaker 6: on the ski.
- 48:18Speaker 4: But you can't tell me that he's processing the place.
- 48:21Speaker 2: The best right now to run the offense.
- 48:23Speaker 6: Mentally, he was the best option that they had at
- 48:26Speaker 6: quarterback the night they drafted him, and I've been saying
- 48:28Speaker 6: that since the night they drift.
- 48:29Speaker 2: I don't know, Like I'm with Paul here, how can
- 48:31Speaker 2: you say that when he hasn't even opened up the
- 48:33Speaker 2: playbook yet?
- 48:33Speaker 13: What do you mean what do you mean, because he's
- 48:36Speaker 13: by far the most talented player, But that's talent.
- 48:38Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 48:39Speaker 13: I don't think anybody about here he's the best. I
- 48:42Speaker 13: don't think quarterback team. I agree with you talent wise, right, Yes,
- 48:47Speaker 13: and he was.
- 48:48Speaker 6: I understand that there had to be a developmental track there,
- 48:51Speaker 6: but the night they drafted him, he was always going
- 48:54Speaker 6: to get to this point.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 48:56Speaker 7: I might be contradictory. I want him to play. I
- 48:58Speaker 7: want him to play week one. Wanted him to play
- 49:00Speaker 7: week one since they drafted him. I do not think
- 49:03Speaker 7: he's ready to play week one. I know that probably
- 49:05Speaker 7: sounds like a country you still tell you because I
- 49:08Speaker 7: don't think the other guy can play, So what are
- 49:10Speaker 7: we doing? What's the difference? Just let him learn it
- 49:12Speaker 7: on the go. It'll accelerate the process. So that way
- 49:15Speaker 7: in year two.
- 49:16Speaker 2: I thought I'm ready to roll, but I thought you
- 49:18Speaker 2: just said you don't think he's ready to play.
- 49:19Speaker 7: I don't think he's ready to play, but I want
- 49:21Speaker 7: him to play, but get get ready by playing.
- 49:24Speaker 2: So I'm going to ask, don't get ready by watching.
- 49:25Speaker 2: But I'm going to ask you the same question in
- 49:27Speaker 2: reverse that I asked ever, Why don't you think he's
- 49:30Speaker 2: ready to play? What have you just?
- 49:31Speaker 7: I don't see him processing very fast. I still see
- 49:34Speaker 7: the double hits, the process. I still see the late throws.
- 49:36Speaker 7: I still see hurried throws, like he's not ready.
- 49:39Speaker 2: He's not sure that those are physical things.
- 49:41Speaker 4: No, it's mental, it's mental.
- 49:45Speaker 7: Physically, he blows Jakoby were said out of the water.
- 49:48Speaker 7: It's not even worth talking about. Right, He's he's faster, stronger, better.
- 49:53Speaker 2: Armed, And why he's not getting the first team snaps
- 49:58Speaker 2: in practice?
- 49:59Speaker 6: Evan, I can I answer that question. I have no idea,
- 50:01Speaker 6: but I just the thing I keep coming back to
- 50:04Speaker 6: is that, you know, Bar's argument on catch twenty two
- 50:08Speaker 6: is always that he's afraid to put him behind the
- 50:11Speaker 6: offensive line. Right, that's not my Okay, I understand, but
- 50:15Speaker 6: it's you know, let's it's it's a marathon, not a sprint.
- 50:18Speaker 6: We're not talking about September twenty twenty four. We're talking
- 50:20Speaker 6: about the next five to ten years. That that whole thing.
- 50:23Speaker 6: And I'm at the point now where I'm willing to
- 50:25Speaker 6: compromise with those people. Okay, I'm willing to compromise because
- 50:29Speaker 6: I said week one from the start, I wanted to
- 50:32Speaker 6: see him play week one. I'm willing to compromise.
- 50:34Speaker 2: If you want no more like a month now.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Wad never like when we this is not new. I've
- 50:39Speaker 4: been with you on this day. I want him. I
- 50:41Speaker 4: want him to play week one. I just don't think
- 50:42Speaker 4: he's going.
- 50:43Speaker 6: To if he plays, if they get him in there
- 50:45Speaker 6: in week five instead of week one, because they feel
- 50:48Speaker 6: like it's just better for everything, the whole operation, get
- 50:51Speaker 6: the offensive line settled down a little bit, avoid some
- 50:54Speaker 6: of these big hitters in the beginning of the season,
- 50:57Speaker 6: and maybe just ease him into it a little bit more.
- 51:00Speaker 6: And also just watch Jakobe, like go through a regular
- 51:03Speaker 6: season week and what it's like to prepare during the
- 51:07Speaker 6: week to play in the game on Sunday. Is something
- 51:10Speaker 6: that might benefit him.
- 51:12Speaker 4: All good points. Don't discount like all the new coaches
- 51:15Speaker 4: you have.
- 51:15Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 51:16Speaker 7: So now they all those new coaches that are doing things,
- 51:19Speaker 7: and even I would include Van Pelton that because he's
- 51:21Speaker 7: never really done this, you know, calling all the plays
- 51:24Speaker 7: and everything. Let them get that, you know, four or
- 51:28Speaker 7: five six times out of the way.
- 51:30Speaker 6: I hate to I like that plot.
- 51:33Speaker 5: I think if the offense can knock the rust off
- 51:35Speaker 5: of the new play callers, the offensive line, whatever it is,
- 51:38Speaker 5: and then put him out there after two games. I
- 51:40Speaker 5: don't hate that, But I also don't hate either. It's
- 51:43Speaker 5: putting him out there week one and letting him learn
- 51:44Speaker 5: by example. I think both are good as long as
- 51:47Speaker 5: you're not sitting him for too long. Two or three
- 51:49Speaker 5: games is good.
- 51:50Speaker 6: Yeah, my concern with week one is mainly just the
- 51:53Speaker 6: operation around him. Are you putting him in a functional environment,
- 51:57Speaker 6: like if he's gonna go out there in Week one
- 51:58Speaker 6: against lou anamer Remo in a really good Bengals defense
- 52:01Speaker 6: to get his butt kicked, I don't know if that's
- 52:03Speaker 6: really what's best for Drake May's long term development. The
- 52:07Speaker 6: second thing I would just say is let's not lose
- 52:09Speaker 6: sight of the fact that it's a much longer season
- 52:12Speaker 6: in the NFL than it is in college. And in college,
- 52:16Speaker 6: you know, he plays twelve thirteen games a year. Now,
- 52:19Speaker 6: if you start in week one, he's gonna have to
- 52:21Speaker 6: play seventeen games and the bye isn't until week fourteen.
- 52:24Speaker 7: I guess what I'm saying would be this, do you
- 52:27Speaker 7: think Brissette or May would have a better chance of
- 52:31Speaker 7: being prepared to face big lose because I can never
- 52:36Speaker 7: pronounce in a room Moya ram Mo Bengals defense in
- 52:41Speaker 7: Week one? Who do you think would be better prepared
- 52:43Speaker 7: to go into that? Like, I really think it's almost
- 52:47Speaker 7: impossible to say. I don't want that he would be ready,
- 52:49Speaker 7: but I want, I want me to play. I'm with Evan,
- 52:52Speaker 7: I'm with Fred, I'm with Samara, I'm we're all in agreement.
- 52:55Speaker 7: I want to see May. I just can't really look
- 52:59Speaker 7: at him based on what I've seen in camp and saying,
- 53:02Speaker 7: oh God, if he's got this, he's got like you know,
- 53:05Speaker 7: he's ready to go.
- 53:06Speaker 4: He can do.
- 53:06Speaker 7: I want him to learn on the fly because I
- 53:09Speaker 7: think that's the better way to learn, right.
- 53:11Speaker 5: So, but I have a question.
- 53:12Speaker 4: I can't argue that I feel like he's really ready
- 53:14Speaker 4: to go.
- 53:14Speaker 5: If Week one was on the road versus the commanders,
- 53:18Speaker 5: would you just put May out there? Because it's like different.
- 53:20Speaker 7: I don't really care about the offensive line, and I
- 53:22Speaker 7: don't care about who he's playing. I'm just saying, regardless
- 53:25Speaker 7: of the opponent, the guy who'd be more prepared to
- 53:27Speaker 7: face that opponent is the guy who's in his ninth
- 53:30Speaker 7: year than the guy was rookie year. Again, no one
- 53:33Speaker 7: would argue Evan that May doesn't blow him away from
- 53:38Speaker 7: a physical standpoint. He's a better player, he's a better quarterback.
- 53:41Speaker 7: I just don't know if he's ready to be a
- 53:43Speaker 7: better quarterback.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Yet.
- 53:44Speaker 4: I would play him.
- 53:46Speaker 7: I would, I would absolutely play him right out of
- 53:48Speaker 7: the chute, let him go.
- 53:50Speaker 4: But I just don't think they're going to do that.
- 53:52Speaker 7: Can I ask another question that I hear a lot, Oh,
- 53:54Speaker 7: when you take this tack, this is a short one,
- 53:57Speaker 7: quick one.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:59Speaker 7: Let's say, for argument, say you sit May for three
- 54:03Speaker 7: weeks and you put him in before you before he's ready,
- 54:07Speaker 7: and then he plays like two or three games and
- 54:09Speaker 7: it just does not look good.
- 54:11Speaker 4: Why can't why?
- 54:12Speaker 7: Why is it like set in Stone that but once
- 54:14Speaker 7: you go to him, you have to stay with him.
- 54:15Speaker 7: You can't do Why can't you? Why can't you take
- 54:17Speaker 7: him out and say.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Okay, talking about psyche and losing his confidence.
- 54:21Speaker 4: So you talk to him and say, listen, you.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Tell him beforehand, don't look good, It's okay, We're gonna
- 54:26Speaker 2: take you out, you know.
- 54:27Speaker 7: But then like you'll go back in development. I think
- 54:30Speaker 7: guys have come out of games as rookies Tua did.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I don't. I don't think that that's like
- 54:36Speaker 4: a bridge too far, Like do I want to do it? No,
- 54:38Speaker 4: it's not ideal. Once I put him in, I want
- 54:40Speaker 4: him to be the guy.
- 54:41Speaker 7: Yeah, but like if it doesn't, let this whole notion
- 54:43Speaker 7: that if you put him in, once you put him in,
- 54:45Speaker 7: you can't turn back.
- 54:46Speaker 4: I don't understand that.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 54:50Speaker 4: Is he that weak that we can't take him out
- 54:52Speaker 4: of the game?
- 54:53Speaker 6: Hope not.
- 54:53Speaker 2: But by the way, if he doesn't look good from
- 54:56Speaker 2: like a performance standpoint, throwing it, I don't care this year.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Let them make mistakes, you know.
- 55:03Speaker 4: I think we're all in agreement. I think, but I
- 55:07Speaker 4: don't really feel like we're going.
- 55:08Speaker 2: To get what we want. Jason, Minnesota, what's up, Jay?
- 55:13Speaker 10: What's up?
- 55:13Speaker 12: Guys?
- 55:14Speaker 8: I was thinking about that question of how they prepared
- 55:18Speaker 8: for the seat like the future, and I would give
- 55:20Speaker 8: him a seven, but I maybe say and ain't if
- 55:23Speaker 8: they were to play Drake may right away because that
- 55:26Speaker 8: goes into development and he can play with those young receivers.
- 55:30Speaker 8: And I was wondering if you think it's kind of
- 55:31Speaker 8: a situation like Green Bay where they have a bunch
- 55:33Speaker 8: of young receivers who probably wouldn't start on a lot
- 55:37Speaker 8: of teams. I mean maybe the Patriots, but not a
- 55:39Speaker 8: lot of teams would have you know, Watson and Reed
- 55:42Speaker 8: and Remeo Dodds playing, but they got to develop with
- 55:45Speaker 8: each other and now they've played pretty well. And I
- 55:48Speaker 8: think that Jordan is gonna have a great season because
- 55:50Speaker 8: he knows how to play with these you know, c
- 55:52Speaker 8: to be players and knows how they run their routes
- 55:55Speaker 8: and knows that their timing. And I think that if
- 55:57Speaker 8: they can let Drake May play.
- 55:58Speaker 14: With the young receivers like Baker and Pole and Pop
- 56:04Speaker 14: and then even if the Junian bell to health, you like,
- 56:06Speaker 14: that can turn into a we know our timing, we
- 56:09Speaker 14: know where you're gonna be at. And I mean the
- 56:12Speaker 14: quarterback shit behind the legendary quarterback Jacobe Present is in
- 56:16Speaker 14: thet I don't know how much more processing, Like, I
- 56:19Speaker 14: don't know what the gas is gonna between those two.
- 56:21Speaker 14: And I don't know if you guys have an opinion
- 56:23Speaker 14: on how far you think Drake May is from Jacoby,
- 56:25Speaker 14: But I mean, if you get in the game, and
- 56:27Speaker 14: I think that he can pick it.
- 56:29Speaker 15: Up quite back.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Yep, Yeah, I think I think the goal. I thought
- 56:36Speaker 6: the goal with the receivers was to do the Green
- 56:39Speaker 6: Bay model exactly how he laid out. You know, Watson
- 56:42Speaker 6: Dobbs read is pop Polk Baker. But then they tried
- 56:49Speaker 6: to trade for Brandon at Yuk. They try to give
- 56:51Speaker 6: a bag of money to Calvin Ridley and free agency.
- 56:53Speaker 6: So I don't know if that's necessarily plan A. It
- 56:57Speaker 6: seems like Plan A was to go get a big fish,
- 57:01Speaker 6: and it's sort of morphed into plan B, which is, well,
- 57:04Speaker 6: why don't we let the young kids play and hopefully
- 57:06Speaker 6: they all, you know, rise to the top together and
- 57:09Speaker 6: we have a good thing going, a good nucleus going.
- 57:12Speaker 6: Maybe it's the Texans way where Nico Collins and Tank
- 57:15Speaker 6: Dell have these great years and then they go trade
- 57:17Speaker 6: for Stefan Diggs and he's the cherry on top. But
- 57:20Speaker 6: I can't sit here and say that that was the plan,
- 57:23Speaker 6: because the plan was to pay Calvin Ridley, like that
- 57:25Speaker 6: was the plan. Then the plan became, well Brandon Nyuk.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I want a GM who when something, when opportunity knocks,
- 57:34Speaker 2: they try to open the door. I mean, you know,
- 57:37Speaker 2: you didn't know that Ayuk was going to get to
- 57:39Speaker 2: this point, but once he did, Holy mackerel, he's better
- 57:42Speaker 2: than anybody we have. He makes our team better if
- 57:45Speaker 2: we can get him, regardless of who the quarterback is.
- 57:48Speaker 6: That's fair. But the Packers never would trade for Brandon Ayuk.
- 57:51Speaker 7: Well that's a whole philosophy thing, right right, But that's
- 57:54Speaker 7: what we're trying to figure out.
- 57:55Speaker 4: Yeah, is it a plan or not?
- 57:58Speaker 2: I think the plan here is get better, better, period
- 58:02Speaker 2: in every different way.
- 58:03Speaker 7: Well, I think that to Evan's point, I think they
- 58:05Speaker 7: felt like they were going to get better with these
- 58:08Speaker 7: three young guys.
- 58:09Speaker 2: I think that's part of it. But add Ayuk to that,
- 58:12Speaker 2: why not? Why not?
- 58:15Speaker 6: I'm just saying that I would do it.
- 58:17Speaker 7: It's not the pack I'm not sold on the two rookies,
- 58:19Speaker 7: so I mean, I mean, that's that's the difference.
- 58:22Speaker 4: I think.
- 58:24Speaker 7: That's why I would take im. But if I was
- 58:26Speaker 7: really sold in the rookies, I wouldn't be interested.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Even if you love poke In Baker, why not bring
- 58:33Speaker 2: in a guy like Brandon.
- 58:34Speaker 7: Ayuk Because I don't want to stunt the development of
- 58:37Speaker 7: my own guys that I'm really excited about.
- 58:38Speaker 2: It hurts the bottom, it hurts the booties of the world,
- 58:42Speaker 2: they're gone, you know what I mean, it's no, but
- 58:46Speaker 2: it's a trickle down. So let's just say that. You know,
- 58:51Speaker 2: obviously Poke and Baker a locks right wherever you have
- 58:55Speaker 2: them in the depth chart. Wherever you have them in the.
- 58:57Speaker 4: Depth chart, Pokes a lock.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I think Baker is a lot, don't you think?
- 59:01Speaker 4: Probably? But I don't like the way he's played the
- 59:03Speaker 4: last two weeks.
- 59:04Speaker 2: Okay, but you bring an Ayuk wherever you think they are,
- 59:07Speaker 2: it knocks them down a little. We've talked about the
- 59:09Speaker 2: domino effect, but they're still on the team. They're not
- 59:11Speaker 2: going to be cut.
- 59:13Speaker 7: Because right now that the development gets stopped, having to
- 59:17Speaker 7: cut somebody, if I'm if I'm if I want to
- 59:20Speaker 7: cut somebody, I don't need him. Yeah, Like Polk and
- 59:24Speaker 7: Baker if their locks, and they probably are, Polk is definitely,
- 59:28Speaker 7: they're not going to get cut. If you come now,
- 59:30Speaker 7: they're not going to get the amount of run that
- 59:32Speaker 7: you were thinking they were going to get.
- 59:35Speaker 2: I think that I would get would I would.
- 59:37Speaker 4: Take listen, I was we were, we were here about
- 59:40Speaker 4: two weeks ago.
- 59:41Speaker 2: Think it might even help them.
- 59:42Speaker 7: Right with a very exciting show about the possibility of
- 59:45Speaker 7: getting Ayuk, we were all on board. I definitely would
- 59:48Speaker 7: be on board of that. But I understand what Evan's
- 59:50Speaker 7: talking about, Like, if you have a plant like Green
- 59:53Speaker 7: Bay had a plan and they had three guys they
- 59:55Speaker 7: felt really good about, actually four because that Wix guys
- 59:58Speaker 7: pretty good too. Yes, And I don't think they would
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: have been interested in disrupting that because they want those guys.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: They felt really good about them. Yeah, and they wanted
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: them to develop. If you bring in a big dog
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: that knocks one of those guys down, he's not going
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: to develop as much.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I think that he gets less attention during games. I
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: think it might even help them.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: You can only have so many guys on the field
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: at once.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: I know, but there's plenty of run for everybody.
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: I agree with what Fred is saying that the trickle
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: down effect I would have done. Ay the coverage dictating
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: aspect of AYUK comes in now Jalen Polk's facing number
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: two corners instead of number one corners, and Baker's on
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: the number Like. I agree with all of that. I
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: just you can't sit here and say the plan was
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: to draft these young guys and try to go young
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: and develop in the Packer way like they did in
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: Green Bay, and then on the other breath offer thirty
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: million dollars a year to Brandon Nyuk. Like, those things
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: are contradictory. So I think the plan is to add
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: a receiver of that caliber, which is not a bad plan,
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: but it's just not what the Packers did. Yeah, you
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: know which is.
- 1:01:00Speaker 7: And I would have done it. I would have done
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: what Elliott Wolf did. I would have done next shiny
- 1:01:04Speaker 7: Shiny prize.
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: Yeah, next offseason, I think they'll chase the shiny toy
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: again and they'll do it until, I I believe, until
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: they land one.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: Yeah. I think you always have to be looking at
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: Wasayte for your team to get better at every position.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: So like, if the wide receiver room is missing that
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: big dog, definitely keep your door open for it. But like,
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: but if you're comfortable with the young guys, you're good.
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: But if I felt as strongly as Green Bay does
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: about those guys, I might not have been interested in But.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: If there's if miracles happen and Drake May and Poke
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: have this amazing connection and Poke is you know, fourteen
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: hundred yards, Okay, maybe the need to go after that
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: shiny toy lessens a little bit and now you're going
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: after the shiny tackle. You know, you're, you're you know,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: so conditions on the ground change. And I know what
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: I just laid out is kind of pie in the sky.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: But I know what you but if poke emerges and okay,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: now you know we don't need to go after the
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: next Brandon Nyuk.
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: And that's what green Bay did. Green Bay said, I
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: think we have guys that are going to do that.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: We don't need that.
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: And now I'm not telling you green Bay was talking
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: about Ayuk, just using that as an example because it's
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: the one ever brought out. Yeah, and I think it's
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: kind of Listen, we compare a lot of stuff to
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: the packer way.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Because of Elliott Wolf Like. It's that there is a
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: sort of.
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: Natural comparison to me because that's the way I think
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: they're going to try to go about their business.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: What are your thoughts on the rookie receivers because I
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: think we might be on the same page on this one.
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: But I like Jalen Polk. I like the way he plays.
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: He's a football player. I'm just not convinced he's ever
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: going to be anything more than sort of a serviceable
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: possession kind of guy. Baker is one of the more
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: trick or treat guys I've ever seen. Like as a
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: young guy, I'm less and less impressed with his explosiveness
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: by the day. He looks tired to me a little bit.
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: Maybe he's going through that camp thing, you know, like
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: it's kind of hitting the wall. Yeah, this is unfair,
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: but we talk openly on Patriots unfiltered right, unfiltered right.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: This is up.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: But this is probably unfair because I've never really spoken,
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: you know, other than with thirty of my closest friends,
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: I've never really spoken to him.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: I don't love his body language on the field.
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: I'll give you a couple of examples. The other day
- 1:03:19Speaker 7: he comes out at practice. There's a mindlessly long pre
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: practice routine that the Patriots do.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: Now everybody's doing something.
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: Now, Yeah, you know, your boy, David Wallace is constantly
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: catching punts off the drugs machine work. He needs the
- 1:03:37Speaker 7: work because he catches them all twice at least. There
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: are other guys, you know, receivers that are sort of
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: Jalen Rager looks like he's been dealing with something with
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: his hip the last couple of days. He's got the
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: thera gun out there. He's been, you know, sort of
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: loosening up, getting some work in. Jayvon Baker is sitting
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: on his helmet in between the practice fields by himself.
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: I just can't imagine there's not something that a rookie
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: wide receiver could be doing. Austin Hooper yesterday, after missing
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: the previous practice, was down in the opposite end zone
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: catching passes off the judge machine. Been in the league
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: nine years, So I don't like the the optics of
- 1:04:16Speaker 7: a rookie receiver sitting on his helmet by himself while
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: everybody else is sort of preparing for practice. There was
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: a deep ball that he was intended for. He was
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: double covered, blanketed. Ball goes incomplete. It must have taken
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: him a full minute to walk all the way back.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: To buy.
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Like, I just don't like the body language and the optics.
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: Think that completely unfair because I don't know, like what's
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: going on, you know. So I'm just reading from Afar
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: and I just I haven't liked the way it's looked.
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: And it has nothing to do with him dropping a
- 1:04:51Speaker 7: deep ball. The guys drop passes that that's a physical mistake.
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: I didn't love the route earlier where he allowed himself
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: to get bullied out of bounds. But you know, it's
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: not necessarily a production thing. It's more of what I'm watching. Yeah,
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: and does that make any sense?
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it does. But here's a good here's a
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: good example of a guy who if you look at
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Poke and Baker, Baker is probably the better athlete. Yeah right,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: oh yeah, But there's a reason why he didn't go
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: in the in the second round, you know.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a reason why he transferred from Bama.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean right, also true, Yeah, Paul, you know
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: you're speaking facts about what you were seeing. The film
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: is the film for both those guys in the preseason,
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: and it hasn't always been pretty. I mean, Jaymon Baker
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: cannot get off press coverage on the outside right now.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Khille Ringo put put him into the sideline multiple times,
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: like the one player gets highlighted that everybody goes fully
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: out of bounds and gets you know, he would have
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: even if he catches that pass, he's he's illegal, he's
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: an eligible receiver at that point. He had a lot
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: of released problems against press Man in that game. And
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: then you put the drop in there too. Even the
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: bal he caught on the endcut, he like jumped and
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: double yeah, it did not look right. So that that's
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: concerning uh, Jalen Polk. I I still don't see a
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: whole lot of burst or acceleration in his routes. And
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: he's also has two or three times a game in
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: the two preseason games where I'm not one hundred percent
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: sure he's running the right route, which I don't love.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: So I'll give you an example the bootleg play that
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: Drake May hit Mitchell Wilcox in the flat on a
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: little jump throw and it's Manton man coverage. Nobody has
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: Mitchell Wilcox. It's a it's a bust. Nobody has Mitchell Wilcox.
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: The guy that makes the tackle on Wilcox is Jalen
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: Polk's man.
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: Oh and he plew his arms that he was disgusted
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: with himself because.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: Jalen Polk ran in the same area as Mitchell Wilcox,
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: so he brought more people to the party. And just
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: based off of spacing and how concepts work, you never
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: see an offensive coordinator design a route combination to have
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: two guys in the same place.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Sure you know that's a problem if it happens someone's wrong.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: Yeah, and watching the play just how it worked out
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: conceptually from every other angle, you have to point to
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: Polk as the one that was the wrong culprit there.
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: So if he's not in the area and he's cleared
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: out of that area, there's nothing but green grass in
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: front of Mitchell Wilcox, it's probably like a fifteen yard game.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:29Speaker 7: I thought he was upset with himself for missing a block.
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: I thought there was maybe a screen that was setting
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: up and he was supposed to take care of someone.
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: But what you're saying makes more sense.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: Yeah, So he ran an out into the flat and
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: Mitchell Wilcox ran the slide route you know, where he
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: runs into the flat and now there's two guys in
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: the flat and Polk's guy ends up making the tackle.
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: There's another play, you know, the sack to that Drake
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: May had late in the game. It's a dagger concept,
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: So Polk's got to clear out the inside coverage and
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: then case on Booty. I think it is is gonna
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: run that deep incut.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: And that's similar to the concept on the Baker catch.
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: Yeah, so uh sort of, so May is holding the
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: ball because He's waiting for Jalen Polk to clear the
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: safety out of the picture, and he's holding it and
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: he's holding it and he's holding it, and Jalen Polk
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: runs this like squiggly line of a route. He gets
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: chucked at the line of scrimmage and then he just
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: doesn't really get back on the route and it took
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: too long. It just the whole thing took too long.
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: So Drake May is holding the ball because if he
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: throws the incut, which is where he wants to go
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: with the ball, before Jalen Polk clears it out, the
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: safety is just gonna jump it. It's gonna be a
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: pick six the other direction. So he's waiting for the
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: route to develop, and Jalen Polk is just kind of
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: lolly gagging up the field. And I see these things
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: on the film and I'm like, is he ready? Like
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: is he ready?
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Though?
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: Like, you know, we get out into practice and he's
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: running with the top offense and I'm like.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: They keep saying it because they don't have top receivers.
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: Yeah, like maybe they're looking at it differently from me.
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: That's totally possible. But I was watching JT. O. Sullivan's
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: breakdown of Drake May and we had the same notes
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: about Jalen Polk And I'm like, all right, so at
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: least somebody else that watches this religiously is seeing the
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: same thing. I'm not saying that he's a bust. I know,
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: I think he's tough.
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: I like some I think he's a football player, but
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: I'm not sure he's as good as some people have
- 1:09:24Speaker 7: made him out.
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: Yeah, it's just concerning because he's going to have to
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: be one of those guys that mentally is a master
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: of the game, Like he's going to have to be
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: a high IQ reute runner in order to make it
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: in this league because he doesn't have a physical traits.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Right, let's take a break. It's that time. So I
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: know Paul's food's not coming, you're no longer eating. I
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: don't know, I don't care.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: In front of me.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Well, it's a little difficult.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: I know, with the new studio. That's why I don't eat.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: No, it's well timing and everything.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: All right, too nice. I don't want to ruin the world.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, we'll take a break. We'll be right back.
- 1:10:00Speaker 16: Isn't it time to get exactly what you want?
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Welcome?

- 1:10:25Speaker 16: These deals won't last. It's your Verizon.
- 1:10:32Speaker 17: And we're back with another edition of the PU Halftime Show.
- 1:10:35Speaker 17: Matis Balvin here, Chris Casty, it's been a while. It's
- 1:10:39Speaker 17: been a long hot summer. Yeah, winter winter around the
- 1:10:42Speaker 17: quarter summer. It's been toasty, it's been We've had one
- 1:10:45Speaker 17: preseason game, we got another coming soon tomorrow, and.
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: Been a twenty day sprint to say the least, exactly.
- 1:10:54Speaker 17: It's recording this August fourteenth, which means joints were yesterday. So, Chris,
- 1:10:58Speaker 17: worry some of your takeaways on the practice with the
- 1:11:00Speaker 17: Philadelphia Eagles.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: It was good to.
- 1:11:02Speaker 18: See Drake may get a little throwing confidence. I think
- 1:11:06Speaker 18: you said, not quite the training camp that he would
- 1:11:09Speaker 18: have expected. I think he's trying to get in his feet,
- 1:11:12Speaker 18: trying to get his feet a little bit more wet
- 1:11:13Speaker 18: here and just kind of get into the swing of things.
- 1:11:16Speaker 18: But I thought he had a little more thrill confidence.
- 1:11:19Speaker 18: Yesterday during joint practice against the Eagles, it was his
- 1:11:22Speaker 18: first I mean, aside from the first preseason game. It
- 1:11:25Speaker 18: was the first time where he was able to go
- 1:11:27Speaker 18: up against a team that's got a strong defense and
- 1:11:31Speaker 18: also kind of see from a different point of view
- 1:11:34Speaker 18: how good of a quarterback Jalen Hurts is as well. Yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 18: so I feel like there's a lot of highs and lows,
- 1:11:39Speaker 18: But I thought overall that was a takeaway for me.
- 1:11:41Speaker 17: It was cool because less than training camps, great football's back.
- 1:11:45Speaker 17: But like you know this, Chris, as soon as the
- 1:11:48Speaker 17: first two days are over, it gets very very rinse
- 1:11:50Speaker 17: and repeat, and you know, the preseason games are not
- 1:11:53Speaker 17: what they used to be.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: And last time we did the halftime.
- 1:11:55Speaker 17: So I said, I couldn't wait for the joint practices
- 1:11:57Speaker 17: because those are the full time reps. You got people
- 1:12:00Speaker 17: absolutely fighting for their spots. You get to see some
- 1:12:02Speaker 17: things I haven't seen before and get more reps which
- 1:12:04Speaker 17: you would in the game. How Drake played how many
- 1:12:07Speaker 17: reps in the Panthers.
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: Game like one series.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good.
- 1:12:12Speaker 17: You got people talking trash, you know everything. There was
- 1:12:14Speaker 17: almost twelve thousand fans here.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it was great. It was great.
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: And then also a good good selection too of Philly
- 1:12:21Speaker 17: in Yeah, everybody drive up. There are a bunch of
- 1:12:24Speaker 17: Philly fans, which you know, they're crazy. The Eagles were
- 1:12:27Speaker 17: great to have them in town because.
- 1:12:29Speaker 18: You know, a great, great organization they really are, from
- 1:12:33Speaker 18: the fans to the players, like everybody just was happy
- 1:12:35Speaker 18: to be here just watch football yesterday.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: So it was cool.
- 1:12:38Speaker 17: And another thing I liked because I didn't really pay
- 1:12:40Speaker 17: attention that much in the game because I missed it,
- 1:12:42Speaker 17: but it was really cool. I'm not going to get
- 1:12:44Speaker 17: too into we don't have any secrets away seeing the
- 1:12:46Speaker 17: new kickoff formation and seeing a couple of reps practicing
- 1:12:49Speaker 17: with live hitting just I know nobody in this practice.
- 1:12:52Speaker 17: They didn't really show any of their tricks, but I
- 1:12:54Speaker 17: think I think the NFL is in for a surprise
- 1:12:57Speaker 17: with this.
- 1:12:57Speaker 18: Yeah, I think it's cool kind of seeing how they've
- 1:13:00Speaker 18: been working with the different kickers on the roster as well,
- 1:13:04Speaker 18: like even in practice, were able to visually see Bryce
- 1:13:08Speaker 18: Behringer get kicked some he's trying to get used to it, and.
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: Chad and Joey Syer.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: All you got all kicking it.
- 1:13:14Speaker 17: You got people like doing a squib thing, you got
- 1:13:16Speaker 17: to going straight up in the air like you know,
- 1:13:19Speaker 17: you got it.
- 1:13:19Speaker 18: It's the green zone that's completely different, and I think
- 1:13:23Speaker 18: it's gonna be tough for a lot of kickers to
- 1:13:24Speaker 18: get it there. Yeah, especially with the style of kick
- 1:13:28Speaker 18: off they were trying to do.
- 1:13:29Speaker 17: And the reps were on it like if people were
- 1:13:31Speaker 17: messing up, they were calling it.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: They're like called the game.
- 1:13:33Speaker 17: So it was great to see that. So so from joints,
- 1:13:37Speaker 17: who who stood out to you?
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: Who stood out to me?
- 1:13:40Speaker 18: I mean, Jalen Polk is just he's just been dynamic
- 1:13:43Speaker 18: all Campaiger last time. Throw Baker in there as well.
- 1:13:46Speaker 18: I think those two have really stuck out the most.
- 1:13:50Speaker 18: Jalen Rager had a pretty solid day overall yesterday. I
- 1:13:53Speaker 18: want one awesome play along the sideline where he most
- 1:13:56Speaker 18: one of the Philly DB's chacobe into Jalen's hands. So
- 1:14:02Speaker 18: it's cool to see Jalen get some action. Yeah, in
- 1:14:05Speaker 18: this former team, and Jalen's playing for something this year,
- 1:14:07Speaker 18: he really is. And I think from a confidence level,
- 1:14:11Speaker 18: didn't really work out for him in Minnesota, didn't work
- 1:14:15Speaker 18: out in Philly, Like you want to see him get
- 1:14:18Speaker 18: to where he has potential to be as a as
- 1:14:21Speaker 18: a round one wide receiver.
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: That's where he was drafted.
- 1:14:23Speaker 17: And as we talk about the receivers since we've last
- 1:14:27Speaker 17: been on the show, Juju has been released. So that's
- 1:14:29Speaker 17: another person out in the wide receiver comp which just
- 1:14:33Speaker 17: means other guys are gonna have to step up, and
- 1:14:36Speaker 17: they're more reps.
- 1:14:36Speaker 18: So yeah, and I mean, Patriots eat nine million dollars there,
- 1:14:40Speaker 18: But I think it's I don't think they're upset about it.
- 1:14:43Speaker 18: I think Juju is time to move on regardless. He
- 1:14:46Speaker 18: just I really don't think he's going to fit the
- 1:14:48Speaker 18: fold here in New England. And I mean, you got
- 1:14:50Speaker 18: these young guys coming up. You know a guy that
- 1:14:53Speaker 18: is my dark horse candidate to make this team, David Wallace. Okay,
- 1:14:56Speaker 18: Like I for whatever reason, have this obsession with him him.
- 1:15:00Speaker 18: I think he could be a great slot guy. He
- 1:15:02Speaker 18: has really great hands, great route running ability.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: Just get it.
- 1:15:06Speaker 17: Just get him out of the thirty jersey.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean does no matter of what jersey, it's
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: long you.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Meet the team. There we go.
- 1:15:12Speaker 17: I'm just saying we can't have wide receivers wearing thirty.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: That's a pet people in mind.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: So we've already talked about that.
- 1:15:17Speaker 17: We have talked about it, but for another day, another time.
- 1:15:20Speaker 17: But Wallas, he's your dark horse.
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a dark horse. I like Terrell Jennings too.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Running back.
- 1:15:25Speaker 18: He runs hard man, he puts his head down, puts
- 1:15:27Speaker 18: the lowers his shoulder.
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: It's not free to to absorb some comdge.
- 1:15:30Speaker 17: I mean, I mean, I know we signed Gibson, but
- 1:15:33Speaker 17: that whole I mean, for me, it's really vermondre and
- 1:15:35Speaker 17: the rest is an open competition. So whoever whoever steps up,
- 1:15:38Speaker 17: take it because running back is just such an in
- 1:15:40Speaker 17: changeable spot.
- 1:15:40Speaker 18: I don't know, I think it's it's hard because Kevin
- 1:15:43Speaker 18: Harris has obviously a lot of experience here in New
- 1:15:46Speaker 18: England and you don't want to take that away from him.
- 1:15:49Speaker 18: But Jamaichael Hasty has a lot of experience from San
- 1:15:52Speaker 18: Franz to Jacksonville to here, and I mean Terrell Jennings
- 1:15:55Speaker 18: is really showing off what he can.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: Do, all right, Chris.
- 1:15:58Speaker 17: So we got the game coming up, and so let's
- 1:16:01Speaker 17: just think what do we want to see and what
- 1:16:02Speaker 17: we look forward to to going to Washington before we
- 1:16:04Speaker 17: gets the season, because you know, I think by the
- 1:16:06Speaker 17: time this goes out, the game is going to happen.
- 1:16:07Speaker 17: So what do we want to see how maybe it
- 1:16:09Speaker 17: pans out for next week.
- 1:16:10Speaker 18: I'm very curious what Geron Mayo wants to do with
- 1:16:13Speaker 18: his quarterbacks.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: In this game.
- 1:16:15Speaker 18: I mean, obviously you saw all four of them, but
- 1:16:17Speaker 18: Kobe got one series, ye, Drake got one series. It's
- 1:16:20Speaker 18: pretty much to Joe Milton and Bailly ZAPPI show. I
- 1:16:23Speaker 18: think this week is going to be a really important
- 1:16:25Speaker 18: week for Bailly Zappy. And I say that because Joe
- 1:16:28Speaker 18: Milton was the player of the game in the preseason
- 1:16:31Speaker 18: Week one. So I think if Bailey can show, Okay,
- 1:16:35Speaker 18: I'm worthy of being on this roster, I think that's
- 1:16:37Speaker 18: a huge step for him. But I think Joe Milton
- 1:16:39Speaker 18: has a lot to prove there too.
- 1:16:40Speaker 17: I think I'll go something similar to that. I don't
- 1:16:43Speaker 17: think Bailey is going to be on the final roster.
- 1:16:45Speaker 17: I agree, and so I don't. I don't like him
- 1:16:47Speaker 17: taking reps from Joe and Drake, but if he does
- 1:16:50Speaker 17: get reps, I think it's kind of out of respect
- 1:16:52Speaker 17: because there's been some quarterback news in the past. You
- 1:16:55Speaker 17: know forty eight hours that Zappi can play in the league,
- 1:16:59Speaker 17: But I just don't know if it's gonna be with us.
- 1:17:02Speaker 17: But I think he's done enough here that he deserves
- 1:17:04Speaker 17: a shot somewhere else, So I agree.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: I mean that works out.
- 1:17:07Speaker 18: We've seen him as a starter here. I mean he's
- 1:17:09Speaker 18: not the most dynamic quarterback. He's good enough to be
- 1:17:13Speaker 18: on the field if you need him. Yeah, And I
- 1:17:15Speaker 18: mean his twelve interceptions to eleven touchdowns is a tough line,
- 1:17:19Speaker 18: but I think if you put him in the right situations,
- 1:17:21Speaker 18: you can really succeed.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 1:17:23Speaker 17: All right, Chris, We'll be back soon and seasons coming
- 1:17:25Speaker 17: along so we can get more shows out here. But
- 1:17:27Speaker 17: all right, guys, thanks for tuning in. Let's get back
- 1:17:29Speaker 17: to Patris Unfiltered.
- 1:17:30Speaker 19: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:17:35Speaker 19: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:17:38Speaker 19: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:17:42Speaker 19: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: And now great moments in history, I'll give you a
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: good one.
- 1:17:53Speaker 7: I was running the other day and I'm coming across
- 1:17:58Speaker 7: the main street, right, So I get and like, there's
- 1:18:00Speaker 7: no cars out there, right. So here comes the car
- 1:18:04Speaker 7: right and I'm halfway across the street and I'm like,
- 1:18:07Speaker 7: he ain't slowing down. So I stopped and he just
- 1:18:11Speaker 7: kept going and his window was half down, and I go, thanks, buddy,
- 1:18:15Speaker 7: and he's like he bumped his brakes and he turns
- 1:18:19Speaker 7: and there was another person on the corner.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: I go, yeah, that guy's essential.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: That's another great moment. Yeah, that was kind of anticlimactic.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: I missed the punchline.
- 1:18:31Speaker 7: What happened, Paul, I don't remember, you said, Yeah, I
- 1:18:33Speaker 7: don't remember what I said.
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: This was that was COVID. Oh I haven't run since COVID. Yeah,
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: obviously I.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Thought the punchline was, yeah, that guy's essential, because at
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: the time, essential workers.
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: That's what it was. It was only essential. Yeah, that
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: guy's essential.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: Okay, those are dark times left that one. All right,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: We're back. Eight Pass five hundred is the a stick
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: and hotline. Web radio at Patriots dot Com is the
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: email address. We'll get to some emails in a little bit.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: We do have some people that have been hanging on
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Rod's in Delaware. What's up, Rod? Rod and Delaware? Coming
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: in Delaware? Rod? No, Okay, you're gone. We'll go to Winchester.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: I don't think you're going to get this one.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Trevor's in Winchester. What's up, Trevor?
- 1:19:23Speaker 15: Yeah, good question for you with as a dad and
- 1:19:27Speaker 15: boring a football product. As we've marched in front of
- 1:19:31Speaker 15: pretty much all of our fans the last four years.
- 1:19:34Speaker 15: You know, despite the opinions of coaches and our GM,
- 1:19:38Speaker 15: how much involvement does ownership have or should they have
- 1:19:43Speaker 15: with the decisions to get May on the field.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Okay, good question, fair question. How much involvement does ownership
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: have getting May on the field. Yeah.
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: I don't know the answer to that, but I hear
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: what he's saying because I fight the urge myself of like,
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: no matter what, but you, all of us have to
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: cover all seventeen of these regular season games. So I
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: would much rather cover seventeen games of Drake May than
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: not seventeen games of Drake May. And that's no offense
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: to Jacoby pre said. It's just more entertaining for all
- 1:20:13Speaker 6: of us. But with that being said, if I was
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: Robert Kraft, I would hope that he would say, well,
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: I got to listen to the people, my football people
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: in the building and look at the long term outlook
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: of this kid's career and not rush him on it.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: I think their involvement should begin and end with asking
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: the question because they're curious, and that's it, and you know,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: what's the explanation and hopefully it's a good one or
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: whichever where they're going, and that's it. Yeah, you don't
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: want to ownership, you know the words meddling in football stuff,
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: unless it's just a train wreck and you have you know,
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: obviously you see that things are dysfunctional, then your ownership
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: should come in and make swooping changes. But right now
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: we're very early and everyone's tenure here. You got to
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: give them the benefit of the doubt. But it's a
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: fair question. I would hope if Robert Craft answers comes
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: down and has the question, what's what's you know the
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: status report? I hope he's given a clear answer to
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: that question.
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I would hope so too.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: But I just and I will say that he didn't
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: always get that with the form of regime, and that's
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: one of the problems.
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: Respect You just gotta fight the urge of our entertainment,
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: As much as it might matter to certain people in
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: this building, is not the most important thing for Drake
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: may in his long term development, and will all be
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: much happier if they, you know, take their time with
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: him and then he ends up being an MVP quarterback
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: because of it, will all be much happier in the
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: long run.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Let's see Rod and Delaware's back. I don't know what
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: happened last time, but what's up Rod?
- 1:21:50Speaker 11: Yes?
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: Good, good?
- 1:21:55Speaker 11: So two questions. Is there any chance that lady in
- 1:21:57Speaker 11: Robinson beats All's Didney so so the start and left
- 1:22:01Speaker 11: guard spot this year? And is there any chance that
- 1:22:04Speaker 11: Kashan Boody earns more playing than Javon Baker this year?
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: I think there's a chance for both same.
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not so sure about the second one.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, less the second one, but there's a chance.
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: There's always a chance.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: I think there is, especially with what Paul described earlier.
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: I think there is a chance for Booty to go
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: out there and do that. Like if Booty has a
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: better body language and he takes advantage of the reps that.
- 1:22:26Speaker 7: He has, you never know, Yeah, I would say that
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: it's more because I don't like what I've seen from
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: Baker and the things that I'm talking about and thinking
- 1:22:36Speaker 7: about are things that I would think are really glaring
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: to coaches. Yeah, and that can affect your playing time.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: What about Leyden Robinson.
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: He's looked good. You know, it's been against twos and
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: threes in these preseason games. You know, he's moving guys
- 1:22:50Speaker 6: in the third and fourth quarter of a preseason game.
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: So I'm trying not to get too excited. But he
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: did get some reps with the ones yesterday. The problem
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: is he doesn't play tackle. So the five best guys
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: that they have, four of them guards are guards. Well
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: it's right or interior lineman. So's the That's the bummer
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: is if one of those guys. And I'll just say
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: it again, I've been saying it about Big Mike forever,
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: but he told us the other day he's three hundred
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: and fifty pounds, Mike Onwenu. He's not playing tackle at
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: three hundred and fifty pounds, and usually when a player
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: comes out and offers his weight, you can add ten
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: or fifteen pounds of three hundred's issue. Yeah, so he's
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: not playing tackle at that size. So as much as
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: I think laden Robinson's might might be one of their
- 1:23:38Speaker 6: five best guys. Configuring it to get him on the
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: field is going to be complicated because City SO is
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: also one of their best five guys. And if neither
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: one of SO or when who can play tackle, then
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: someone is going to the bench.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Okay, I hope that answers your question. Rod David Main
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: writes in hypothetically, let's say May flat out beats Jacoby
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: for the starting job. All the coaches agreed, Drake is
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: our quarterback one. Is there a chance they cut Jacoby
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: like they did with Cam? Take away the crutch and
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: tell May we are all in. That would explain why
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Zappi is still sticking around. What is Jacoby costing? Like
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: eight million?
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: Yea?
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: What if you think? What do you think? Also, it's
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: kind of funny that in April it was unanimous that
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: May would probably sit out the majority of the season.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: In June it became maybe he'll sit for a few weeks.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: Now in August, maybe he'll start Week one. Is this
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: because of the improvement or is this just excitement?
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: I think some of us were always there in April,
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: and these people that told you that sold you this
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: bag of goods about him being a year. Way lie
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: to you.
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: I would just say, like you're going off of media,
- 1:24:57Speaker 7: like we don't know what we're talking about, and saying
- 1:25:00Speaker 7: that about myself as well as anybody else in the
- 1:25:02Speaker 7: most respectful way. They're the ones with the information, the
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: coaches have, have what.
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: In mind, what they they think.
- 1:25:12Speaker 7: Evan in April wanted Drake May from the start. Other
- 1:25:17Speaker 7: guys listen to what is being there being told and
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: they say it's probably going to be a year, and
- 1:25:23Speaker 7: then they sort of adjust based on the different.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: Things, like if.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: You don't think if you listen, I'm saying, like, why
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: are you listening to But if you listen.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: To this show and didn't listen to us, but listen
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: to our callers, you would think Drake May shouldn't even
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: have been drafted in the first round.
- 1:25:42Speaker 7: Oh god, if we want wanting to get my little
- 1:25:44Speaker 7: list out again. No one wanted them, nobody liked, especially
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: the people from North Carolina.
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: But I was just about to say I wasn't going
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: to go. I already picked enough fights with the people
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: from North Carolina. My my grip are with people that
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: should have known better in the media. Dan Orlovsky right,
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: those types of people, those are where my grapes are
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: because you make me look like I don't know what
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: I'm talking about, because you're telling me that he's two
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: years away when I'm saying, it's just it was never.
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: He was never two years away. It was it just
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: these people like Orlovsky, who I like a lot, and
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: I know I'm picking on him, but I like him.
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: I do really like his analysis. But they were going
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: over Drake May's film and looking at every micro detail
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: of his footwork and saying that this is no good
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: and it is gonna be years away from being fixed.
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: They've already fixed a lot of his issues with his
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: footwork and one off season. You know it just why
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: we they thought that these like little things like you
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: know he took a three step drop here instead of
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: a five step drop, or you know his feet come
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: together here when he needs to have a more sturdy,
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: you know, wider balanced base, like these are all little things.
- 1:26:59Speaker 6: Did he check the macro level boxes? Yes, the micro stuff.
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: You have private quarterback coaches, you have Alex van Pelt,
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: you have TC McCartney, you have all these guys that
- 1:27:08Speaker 6: are here for the last six months working with the kid, like,
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: he's obviously going to get better at timing up his
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: drops with the routes, Like that's why you're not going
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: to play him for an entire year is because his
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: three step drop doesn't sync up to the deep curl
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: route that he has along the sideline. Like those types
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: of things were what everybody was nitpicking about with him
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: in the draft, and now you see, okay, there's been
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: progress in these things, and now we're talking about him
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: starting week one, not just sitting out an entire year.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: Yep. Jordan and Hawaii writes in I saw a clip
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: yesterday of Tom Brady talking to Steven A about the
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: development of quarterbacks in the league currently, and he says
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: something to the effect about how he disagrees with how
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: quarterbacks are being developed now and forced to play early.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: They being the new quarterbacks aren't learning programs anymore, they
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: are learning playbooks. But wanted to know if you guys
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: agree with this point, and what is the difference between
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: learning a program versus learning a playbook.
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I think what he was talking about. I watched
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: the clip and he mentioned that all the time that
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: he had to sit at Michigan and learn and earn
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: his way to the starting role, and then he comes
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: here and he sits his rookie year and again he
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: has to earn the starting role. That he really matured
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: from the start of the time he got to Michigan
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: to when he got on the field with the Patriots
- 1:28:31Speaker 6: in his second season, you know, football wise, you know,
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: reading coverages, mentally, all that.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: Guarantee if he could have started right away, he would
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: have loved to start right away.
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: Yeah, because Peyton will say the opposite. So Peyton says
- 1:28:43Speaker 6: that he learned from playing right away, Brady's saying he
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: learned from sitting. So I kind of just say that
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: it's kind of a wash, like each guy's going to
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: think their experience was the right way of doing things.
- 1:28:53Speaker 7: But I hope we get to continue to hear some
- 1:28:55Speaker 7: of this stuff from Brady when he's doing it for
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: real for Fox the Analysis. But does he kind of
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: strike you as I get off my lawn guy. I mean,
- 1:29:06Speaker 7: it seems like he's complaining about, you know, the ruination
- 1:29:09Speaker 7: of well of everything since he stopped playing.
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: There was the whole jag he went on like a
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: year ago about the defenses. Now he feels bad for
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: them because they're not allowed to do anything anymore like
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: he was can't quarterback. He was advocating for defenses. In
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: other words, us a quarterback.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: You know, he talks a lot about you know, quarterbacks
- 1:29:32Speaker 7: throwing receivers into danger and you know, all that kind
- 1:29:35Speaker 7: of stuff, which I saw him do a thousand times. No,
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: I mean, it happens. What are you gonna do? I
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: saw Peyton Maning do it a million times too. Like
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: when you throw the ball to slot receivers crossing the field,
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: sometimes they're gonna get lit up.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes they're going to be hospital balls. It happens.
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: But I just feel like Brady in particular, when he's
- 1:29:52Speaker 7: talking about the game, it's, you know, these systems that
- 1:29:54Speaker 7: they that they learned now was so much easier. I
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: don't know, guy, like what you have, but out of
- 1:30:00Speaker 7: the game that long, is it that much different?
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: I also feel like the style of quarterback is just
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: so much different. I don't know when if we are
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: ever going to have another Tom Brady like pocket passer
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: only anymore.
- 1:30:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's just rare. The passing game is
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: different than when he started playing, obviously, but he talks
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: about it being worse, and like, I think that they've
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: just made it more efficient. We've just evolved, you know.
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: And and the schemes are just different now than what
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: he were when he first started his style.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: There was more on him than in these styles of offenses. Right.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: It's trying that you're trying to make it easier for
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: the quarterback these days, right, because there aren't enough good quarterbacks.
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: It's it's also just it's the hardest position to play
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: on the field. So the easier that you can make it,
- 1:30:45Speaker 6: the better the quarterback is probably going to play. I
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: still love Oh yeah, no, And he.
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: Would know obviously, like he's talking about, you know, the
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: learning playbooks and not program but you know who he
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: reminds what he's talking. He reminds me of you gonna
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: say Ted Williams.
- 1:30:58Speaker 7: Yeah, do I speak Fred or do I speak Fred?
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Ted Williams? I was like Ted Williams was the same
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: way he got out of playing baseball, you know. But
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: but he got out of playing baseball and he didn't
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: go into broadcasting, but he went into coaching. And he
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: couldn't understand why these young guys.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: Couldn't couldn't hit the way he did, Right, you know.
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: Hit four hundred in the season. Yeah, it's so easy.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the splinter Splinter Junior from Minneapolis.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: What was Ted Williams like Fred You you probably saw
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: him play?
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Yeah, well, sure, I remember when he was a kid.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: You know the kid.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you play though a little bit. Yeah, when I
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: was young, it was yazz bread. They had like this
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: really bad white bread that they would sell, yazz bread
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: and strong.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Oh that was back days of Rico Petricelli and Tony
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: Knigly Arrow and you know it was great.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: Evan's mocking you right now, you know that, right, I
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: don't care he's mocking you.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: I know I'm old.
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: Now tell me I really liked you know, my great
- 1:32:01Speaker 6: uncle he passed away at ninety six. So he saw
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: a ton of baseball and he was a huge baseball guy.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32:08Speaker 6: So I used to talk about him all the time,
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: about DiMaggio and sure.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: This is like three second grade. So I was living
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: in Providence back then.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, rooting for Red.
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: Sox Yeah okay, yeah, and you know they were on
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: Channel six.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: I think they want oh I remember that.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: I don't know whatever whatever it was.
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: But we love New England.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so Junior Minneapolis is what are the odds are
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: starting O line includes Caden Wallace and Leyden Robinson by
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: the end of the season.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: I think that's pretty good.
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: I think pretty good both of them.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: I made the comment during the broadcast the other day.
- 1:32:45Speaker 7: That's when Andy texted me and told me just.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Just stop, just stop something. The offensive lineman.
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: I think Caden Wallace is close. Uh some issues to
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: work out with his hand place men stuff still, but
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: nothing that can't be coached up by the strike system. Paul, I.
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: Have a question for you on offensive line because I'm
- 1:33:09Speaker 7: going to go to you Badar's not here, so I
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: have to go to someone who pretends you come to me.
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: I go to.
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Chooks a corps for from my very layman. Don't don't
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: look just I know, I'm being like, I don't want,
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: I don't watch all the technique. I don't. Yeah, he
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: seems a little light for me.
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a really good that's a really uh good
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: way of putting.
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: He's tall, he's athletic, he is sure, he moves reasonably well,
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: and he's tall, but I don't know if he has
- 1:33:38Speaker 7: enough sand in his pants.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: I would call him a linear build to put it nicely,
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: Strike so we were talking about this on our way
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: out to practice the other day.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Was part of this.
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: I think probably offensive line and I just want is
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: probably listening more so.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: Belichick and Nick Saban used to have this thing about
- 1:33:57Speaker 6: lineman where the people used to ask them, I'm like,
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: why do you go to a pro day to watch
- 1:34:02Speaker 6: an offensive lineman because they're not blocking anybody, they're not
- 1:34:05Speaker 6: in pads, Like what's the point? And they were dead
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: serious and they say that they're there to look at
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: their butts. They they're there to look at the prosterior.
- 1:34:14Speaker 7: So I know you're young, right, Yes, do you remember
- 1:34:17Speaker 7: a guy the Patriots had named Pat Harlow?
- 1:34:20Speaker 11: No?
- 1:34:21Speaker 7: Do you remember Pet Harlow? Fred the first round tackle.
- 1:34:25Speaker 7: He's a really good player.
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: He was very angular.
- 1:34:29Speaker 7: Yeah, when Parcels came in, they didn't love them because
- 1:34:33Speaker 7: of that, because everything Belichick.
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: Did it was Parcels. Yeah.
- 1:34:37Speaker 7: So that that's a thing for those guys that there's
- 1:34:41Speaker 7: like a look and a body type that.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: They want, that bubble they would prefer.
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: Yeah. So when I look at Chukes, I just see
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: a very narrow, linear athlete and he's high cut, so
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: he doesn't have a ton of sand in his pants.
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: And he also plays really up up top, really high,
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: and you can't move anybody because he does, He's got
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: no natural leverage.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: Wallace does not have that problem.
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: By Wallace is the opposite. Wallace has got a nice
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: broad base too well.
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: I mean, going back to Tyrone Smith, he doesn't you know,
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: he's not as wide down low as a lot of guys.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: But he's no. I mean, he's just he's such a
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: great athlete.
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: And he's really big though.
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: He's huge, and his arms are so long, like he
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: gets that hand in your chest and it's over. It's over.
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: If you're going to have the bill that Jukes has,
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: you have to have a really good lower body flexibility
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: because you have to be able to bend. And if
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: you can bend, then you can create those leverage points.
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: And you're fine with him. I just see him playing
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: too tall, and he said it after the first game,
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: So I'm not like saying anything that that is out
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: of line. Like he he mentioned to Yeah, he thought
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: he was playing too high in the opener against Carolina.
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: If you if you're constantly playing that tall, you're not
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: going to move anybody, like you're gonna have no power.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: So that that's what I've seen with him in Kendon
- 1:36:00Speaker 6: Wallace next to on window. Now that would they would
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: move people, you know, that would that would be a
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: nice combination there.
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: And I brought it up just you know, if you
- 1:36:08Speaker 7: could get maybe those guys aren't ready to be you know,
- 1:36:11Speaker 7: they're not better than their the guys they're backing up now.
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: But maybe if you got to middle the middle of October,
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: you know, with Robinson and Wallace, you know, and all
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: of a sudden they're like, you know what, these guys
- 1:36:23Speaker 7: have made up that ground.
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: Now it's time.
- 1:36:25Speaker 7: I think that would be a really positive development for
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: the young offensive line. And you know, I don't know
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: where so is. I thought, I think he's been a
- 1:36:35Speaker 7: little up and down in camp. I don't and I
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: think again, I don't watch every one on one.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: I know you're watching even when you see it.
- 1:36:42Speaker 7: But I do see him coming in and out at
- 1:36:45Speaker 7: times like has been going in yeah, you know, and
- 1:36:49Speaker 7: it's for him. You know, they're not taking a wine now.
- 1:36:52Speaker 7: I don't think any has been great in this camp either.
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: He started out.
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: But that's the biggest thing. You talked about it earlier,
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: Evan is let's say Leydon Robinson is good even if
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: you wanted to kick so over to the right side
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: and move on when you have what to tackle. You're
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: saying right now, he's too heavy to play tackle.
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: That's my thought. And this is a complete tinfoil hat conspiracy.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: But I do wonder if he doesn't want to play tackle,
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: and so.
- 1:37:20Speaker 13: If Ah's advotaging himself, not directly in the buffet line.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: But I wonder if he's thinking to himself. You know,
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: he said to us that he just wants to be
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: locked into one position, whether it's right tackle or right guard.
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: He doesn't necessarily care, but he doesn't. He doesn't want
- 1:37:37Speaker 6: to keep flopping every single year and moving all over
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: the place. So I feel like he almost took matters
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: into his own hands. And again this is just me
- 1:37:45Speaker 6: thinking that maybe he took matters into his own hands
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: and is like, I'm gonna play guard, yeah, and I'm
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: gonna come in at three hundred and seventy five pounds.
- 1:37:54Speaker 6: So when they asked me to go play tackle, it's
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: not gonna look pretty, so they're gonna move me in.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: It knows Yeah, let's see, this is Joe writing in.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: I feel if you're expecting something of this team, then
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: may starting week one is important. Otherwise, I don't think
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: it's that detrimental to have him miss out on three
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: to five games. I do agree you'll learn more by doing. However,
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: I don't think trying to play or do things in
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: general without the necessary prerequisite talent learning period could put
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: you into a place where you're wasting your time and
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: practicing bad habits. Along those lines, I think playing behind
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: an offensive line that is below reasonable standards could similarly
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: develop bad habits and or make the reps he's getting
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: in games significantly less valuable, if not harmful. And he
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: also says, is Paul losing weight, he's looking good?
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: No, but thank you, I look good. I heard that part.
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: You worry about the David Carr syndrome. This now, David
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: Garko sacked seventy five times.
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: I believe it's still a record.
- 1:39:05Speaker 6: Yeah. I don't know if.
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence his rookie season obviously bad coaching. He had
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: a horrible offensive line, among other things. He got sacked
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: a lot and made a ton of mistakes.
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: Yeah, so I mean he's.
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: Still here, not saying he's one of the best.
- 1:39:22Speaker 7: Best habit thing is something that you need to see,
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: Like you always say, I need to see what it
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: looks like. Fred, you always say that before you can
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: never give an opinion. Yeah, I know you're right about
- 1:39:33Speaker 7: that though, Like you need to see it, Like is
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: he getting bruised and battered and then you know he's
- 1:39:39Speaker 7: chucking and ducking that that's the bad habits that you say, Okay,
- 1:39:43Speaker 7: we've passed the point of diminishing returns here, Like the
- 1:39:46Speaker 7: experience he's getting is being aweighed by him, not really
- 1:39:51Speaker 7: you know, going through his reads and progressions and doing
- 1:39:53Speaker 7: what he's supposed to do because he's worried about where.
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: The next hits coming from. And we've seen it.
- 1:39:59Speaker 7: I know this is going to sign like blasphe me,
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: I saw it happened to Tom Brady, so it happens
- 1:40:04Speaker 7: to everybody. It's a it's a problem for everybody.
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: Sure Brady did not want to get hit at the
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: end of his career.
- 1:40:09Speaker 7: Remember that game that that that Sunday night game in
- 1:40:11Speaker 7: Detroit that year for Patricia and he just like went
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: back and he just threw one up like it was
- 1:40:17Speaker 7: a punt to Courtney Patterson that right down the middle
- 1:40:20Speaker 7: of the field.
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: Just a punt, like you see how he was feeling anymore.
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: Remember remember he threw the helmet of Jerry Body on
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: the sideline, just threw his helmet up in the air.
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you knew how Brady was feeling by the number
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: of throws he would throw away.
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: Because I just I'm not taking this hit anymore.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: Emery writes, And he said, Paul, your comment, your comment
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: on pulling Drake may if he doesn't do well, is
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: quite timely. Belichick was on McAfee yesterday commenting on the
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: possibility of bow Nicks starting and then being pulled, and
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: he said, I think that just creates a lot of confusion.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: I really don't think that's what you want to do. Well,
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: you don't want to know.
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: I would totally agree with that. I would lay rich
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: coming from him, but I.
- 1:41:01Speaker 7: Would agree with Belichick on that's not what you want
- 1:41:04Speaker 7: to do. I just don't think you can't do it right.
- 1:41:07Speaker 7: And by the way, Kevin, go ahead, but.
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: A contradictory statement.
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: He did it.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he did it to Max. I know. The two
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: example he used is interesting because Tua just went on
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: LeBatard and said that the whole situation he went through
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: degraded his confidence greatly, and it took a new coach
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: two years to build it back up.
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: For those reasons, because the coach was constantly telling him
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: he sucked.
- 1:41:31Speaker 6: I saw that interview that was a little different.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: It's a little different, is tell me.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: For those reasons, I don't think pulling may would be
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: a good idea.
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: I don't think it would be a good idea either.
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: I'm just telling you. It's like, don't pretend that you
- 1:41:45Speaker 7: can never put him in, because I can't ever take
- 1:41:48Speaker 7: him out once I put him in.
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
- 1:41:50Speaker 7: You don't have to wait three years until you're one
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: thousand percent sure. I'm never going to take him out.
- 1:41:56Speaker 7: Like if you put him in and you were wrong,
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: five weeks later, you could take them out.
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: Yeah. This situation reminds me the most of Miami, and
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: I know two had the injury coming into the NFL,
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: so it's not exactly apples to apples, But they had
- 1:42:08Speaker 6: Fitzpatrick who was like a locker room favorite, veteran mentor,
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: very good. Yeah, and much like much more of a
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: comparison than Green Bay in Kansas City, who had Aaron
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: Rodgers and Alex Smith, and it was a totally different
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: situation what they have here. And by week seven or
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: week eight it was Tua.
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: Like they were having some success.
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: Yeah. I think Fitzpatrick started the first six games, then
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: they had the bye and then Tua was the quarterback
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: coming out of the bye week for the rest of
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: the season. So to me that that's the most app
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: comparison for what's going on here. Yeah, is Miami with Tua.
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: I guess you could also say like the Chargers with
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: Herbert and Tyrod, But Tyrod had the lung situation with
- 1:42:50Speaker 6: the needle, so it's not like that one was it
- 1:42:52Speaker 6: took its own turn. But maybe that one.
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: Would be that situation with Fitzpatrick was actually winning games.
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: Yeah, there are three toa did no not.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: When he finally got in. But I'm like a lot
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: of players in that locker room wanted Fitzpatrick to keep playing.
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, he had people. It was divided, Yeah, a
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: little bit, but it was always going to be too.
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: I don't think it was handled well if that's who
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: you're getting at a transition, I don't think. I don't know.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: I just think it's a little I think I don't
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: expect Jacobe Brissette to go out and start winning games
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: this year. I would be so happy if that happened.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: I just don't see that.
- 1:43:29Speaker 7: But I think the point that I would take from
- 1:43:32Speaker 7: it another way, even if Brissette does win some games
- 1:43:35Speaker 7: and he's like four and four and then you all
- 1:43:38Speaker 7: of a sudden you think, well, you know what this
- 1:43:39Speaker 7: kid is, just him, he's lightening it up in practice.
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: He's ready. I don't care what the record is, make
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: the move because he's the guy.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Kelly in Salt Lake City. Crazy hypothetical here.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: Can you hold on for a second.
- 1:43:54Speaker 7: Now, if Perset went out and was like eight no
- 1:43:56Speaker 7: and lighten it up, I wouldn't just make the move
- 1:43:58Speaker 7: because it makes the guy that's a little different.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: Parrillo says, No matter what, you know what I mean.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: Like if I mean that never happens.
- 1:44:06Speaker 7: Yeah, Like if you're five hundred and that's exceeding expectations
- 1:44:09Speaker 7: at five hundred, I can still make the move.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: Crazy hypothetical here, But say Judon played the whole season
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: on his deal in Atlanta and hits free agency next year,
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: would you be open to the Patriots attempting to re
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: sign him? As anyone ever traded a player, gotten a
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: pick taken and taking that pick and then re signed
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: the player after Uh, they got to pick for it.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: In other words, to use the third to get him back.
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: No, no, no, no, they're saying, no, we need to
- 1:44:38Speaker 6: trade and then in free agency as a free agent
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: for nothing.
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: So then what does the pick have to do with that?
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: You just got to pick back.
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: In other words, you got a third round pick in
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: you kept the player.
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, after.
- 1:44:50Speaker 5: This, I just don't know if he would come back here.
- 1:44:51Speaker 7: I don't think that's a possibility, but I'm sure it
- 1:44:54Speaker 7: has happened at some point. Probably someone probably said, you
- 1:44:57Speaker 7: know what, we're gonna I think it happens in baseball
- 1:45:00Speaker 7: more than.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: What did you think about his comment, jud On, I
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: haven't earned anything here, I'm going.
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: To play on that current He said that here he
- 1:45:07Speaker 5: was going to play on his contract.
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: He's just disgruntled about it. Yeah, that's the way I
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: read it.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: The only thing I didn't like about his interviews this
- 1:45:15Speaker 5: week was how the Patriots never had an in person
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: conversation with him. That's crazy. I just like your own
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: player who's here in the building. You didn't take the
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: time to talk to him in person, and you were
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: texting him.
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: I don't think they wanted the player like.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: I just that's just crazy.
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: I'm going to be surprised by the way if he
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: doesn't get a contract. I won't tell you that I'm demanding,
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: you know, I'm guaranteeing it, But if he plays on
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: the current deal, I will be surprised.
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: This whole thing was always headed to him being traded,
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: which is we talked about it briefly at the beginning
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: of the show. I would have traded him in March
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: because I would have taken the asset in this draft.
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: But I just feel like we were always headed to
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: this point like he was never going to be here
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: long term. They were never going to sign a thirty
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: two year old pass rusher to a you know, sixteen
- 1:46:02Speaker 6: eighteen million a year type of deal. It just doesn't
- 1:46:05Speaker 6: make any sense for their their situation that they're in.
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: So I just don't see how they even if they
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: had sat down at a table together and tried to
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: hash it out man to man, face to face, it
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: just didn't really seem like he had a future here
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: at regardless.
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: I agree Alex and Raley writes in I'm with the crew.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: We all want to see May play. May's point of
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: Mayo's point of the best way to learn is playing
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: in its press conference makes me wonder if he believes
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: Drake May is going to start week one. I think
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: the best course is to let May play. Given the
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: ability to learn from mistakes, and I think he's got
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: the mental toughness to get through a lot, let's start May.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: I would that's what I want to see. I don't think.
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: I don't think we will see it.
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: All right, Brad is in Ohio? What's up, Brad?
- 1:47:01Speaker 10: Any how you got doing it today? Ladies?
- 1:47:04Speaker 8: Hi?
- 1:47:05Speaker 12: Lo?
- 1:47:07Speaker 10: So anyway, I just got a couple of thoughts real
- 1:47:09Speaker 10: quick about City So in particular, and I agree with
- 1:47:14Speaker 10: you all again of course, like I always your teamless
- 1:47:17Speaker 10: always know everything about our team. So City saw really
- 1:47:21Speaker 10: paid played great last year at right guard, and you
- 1:47:28Speaker 10: know he looked good at times at left guard. But what, Evan,
- 1:47:31Speaker 10: do you know what his original position is?
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: Left guard? Yeah, he played left guard in college for
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: multiple years, started multiple started a ton of games in college,
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: like fifty sixty games or something like that, most of
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: them at left guard. So I don't think that it's
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: a problem for him to transition back. If that's if
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: that's what you're getting.
- 1:47:53Speaker 10: At, Okay, great, that's yeah, that's the first thing I
- 1:47:57Speaker 10: wanted to ask. And then and I was going record
- 1:48:00Speaker 10: for liking Drake May when I called you guys back
- 1:48:03Speaker 10: I don't know, three or four months ago, and I
- 1:48:06Speaker 10: was also like JJ McCarthy. And then my last question
- 1:48:11Speaker 10: or inside here, Fred asked me why I felt like
- 1:48:16Speaker 10: we should start Drake May week six once when I
- 1:48:21Speaker 10: called you guys, you know, a few months ago, and
- 1:48:25Speaker 10: the more I thought about it was, but the more
- 1:48:28Speaker 10: you look at it, the way our team structured, you
- 1:48:32Speaker 10: get through that gauntlet of the defensive and then by
- 1:48:37Speaker 10: then we should know what kind of offensive line play
- 1:48:40Speaker 10: we have. By then, you know, be fixed on a
- 1:48:44Speaker 10: certain group, and then also know what kind of receiver
- 1:48:48Speaker 10: play we're going to have to help compliment him, and
- 1:48:51Speaker 10: let that be the deciding factor whether or not we
- 1:48:54Speaker 10: decide to put him in. You know, I think he
- 1:48:57Speaker 10: should wait at least a month just to get through
- 1:49:01Speaker 10: that gauntlet of difficult games. But after that, I mean,
- 1:49:06Speaker 10: if there's no upside and you know, the scenes in
- 1:49:09Speaker 10: this array and we can block halfway decent I think
- 1:49:13Speaker 10: week six would be a great starting point for him
- 1:49:17Speaker 10: against that.
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: Home Oh sorry, week six the Texans.
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: Yeah, Texans.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Sorry, it's a pretty good Yeah, we kind of what
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: you're saying.
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I said week five against Miami, which was just
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: a week before. But if that's what they end up doing,
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: I'm not going to kill him for it is where
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: I'm at with it, like I would have started in
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: week one in April. Like I told, I keep saying,
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: so it's not to me, it's not even about that.
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: But if they say to us, you know, we're gonna
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: let them follow around Jacoby for a month. Let Jacobe
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: show him how to go through the regular season week
- 1:49:48Speaker 6: and how to watch film and how to prepare for
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: an opponent and how to get in the game plan,
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: and you know, we have some tough games early on
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: in the season, and then we'll we'll turn it over
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: to him in week five, sure, but any later than
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: I think we're just what week is London? Week seven
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: or seven?
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: I'm wondering if maybe when they get back from London, I.
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: Want to say week seven.
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: Joe writes in maybe it would have taken dan Arlovsky
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: two years to fix those things and maybe that's why
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: Dan was such a shitty NFL player.
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: Oh that's terrib Why don't you have to read that.
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: I'm not going there with Dan show.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: Just that's what he said.
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: I'm quoting somebody TV AM. I right, you often roll
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: your eyes on me, but you know what, I'm right,
- 1:50:33Speaker 4: that was hysterical.
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: Let's see Jack in a way.
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: I just at that point. But I do like him.
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: I know, I know the email is being funny, but
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: we're trying to be funny. But there is something to
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: be said about everyone's different point of view. I mean,
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: Dan Orlovsky might think that way because it didn't come
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: as naturally to him. I don't know, like.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Quarterback, new coaching staff. Maybe just because of all the newness,
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: there's just so much unknown that maybe that's what he
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: said two years he.
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: Said two years before the Patriots draft of him, this
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: was like a pre even Oh yeah, so I think
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: the biggest thing with him is what I was saying earlier,
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: was that he had all of these like quarterback minutia
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: things with his footwork and his timing in the pocket
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: that he needed to improve on, and a lot of
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: people thought that that was going to take time, and
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: it hasn't come all the way, like he's not one
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: hundred percent there yet, but he has come aways from
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: where he was at the beginning of training camp to
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: the point now where you say, okay, well, the more
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: reps he gets and the more he does it, he's improving.
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: What the more reps he's getting, So he's only going
- 1:51:44Speaker 6: to keep improving, hopefully, And now what are we waiting for?
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: H Jacket and Arbor writes in when the Eagles rolled
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: out their starters against the Patriots in the joint practice
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: last week, it was as if a battle hardened platoon
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: of crack Marines was storming a troop of boys scouts
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: at their summer jamboree. How did it come to this?
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: How did the Patriots allow their roster to deteriorate to
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: the point where they are simply mismatched, overmatched by the
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: best teams in the league.
- 1:52:15Speaker 7: I mean, I think I wish Deuce was here because
- 1:52:18Speaker 7: this is when we play the hits. Duce goes on
- 1:52:21Speaker 7: a ten minute rant about the drafting in recent years,
- 1:52:24Speaker 7: But that's I mean. The short answer is Bill Belichick
- 1:52:28Speaker 7: and the personnel department did not do a great job
- 1:52:30Speaker 7: over the last whatever eight.
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like the lineman. They drafted linemen.
- 1:52:37Speaker 7: Right, and they just haven't they haven't hit on enough
- 1:52:39Speaker 7: players period. It's just because he's right, Like I thought,
- 1:52:42Speaker 7: the defense rose up after a shaky start in that
- 1:52:46Speaker 7: joint practice and competed. The offense was not really competitive
- 1:52:51Speaker 7: at all. First offense, second offense, whatever, they were not competitive.
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: The the difference.
- 1:52:58Speaker 7: In talent level on the field was not much different
- 1:53:02Speaker 7: than it was in his really ugly.
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: It was alarming, Yeah, it was alarming.
- 1:53:07Speaker 6: It was Yeah, there's no doubt about it. And it
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: really starts in the trenches.
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:53:12Speaker 6: I mean the Eagles defensive line they have a brick wall.
- 1:53:15Speaker 6: It's just talented. I mean they have multiple first round
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: picks on that line, you know, multiple Georgia Bulldogs on
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: that line, which never hurts. And also just.
- 1:53:25Speaker 5: The three remaster of brown, Smith and Barkley, Like I
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: had to look Dow. I was like, is that one
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: almost forgot Sakue was even on the team. Yeah, and
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: just to have those three, I like, I think I
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: forgot what the guy's name was, but he was on
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: our pregame show.
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: What was his name, David?
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: But he was like he was. Like being an Eagles
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: person right now is like a pinch me moment to
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: have Saquon on our team, Like he just completes their
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: offense and definitely is gonna make it a lot easier
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: for Hurts.
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: Uh Dorian the Terrapin rites in uh Am, I the
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: only one that sees Jacobe serving Drake may better from
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: the role of backing him up and assisting the quarter
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: back coach breaking down drives and possessions in the game
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: with a headset instead of taking in a live game
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: reps from him. I'm a believer, especially with Drake Mays
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: skill set, that you only get better at football by playing.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: He makes the old line look slightly better with his mobility,
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Receivers seem to have more juice with him, and the
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: team can clearly tell he's the best quarterback. No need
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: to hide him. Take take the good with the bad.
- 1:54:29Speaker 6: He's gonna play.
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: I mean, we all believe it. I think that's where
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: we're trending.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: We all agree with that.
- 1:54:33Speaker 7: The other part about Brissett, I don't necessarily agree with Brissett.
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: You know, it's not his job till I put a
- 1:54:41Speaker 7: headset on and holds Drake May's hand while he plays, No,
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: that's not what he was brought here for. I think
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: he is an exceptional teammate, ye exceptional teammate. I think
- 1:54:51Speaker 7: he is in a very small percentage of guys that
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: would be perfect. A couple emails ago, someone suggested that
- 1:54:58Speaker 7: they they get of him if May starts week one.
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: This is not a Cam Newton situation. They don't need
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: to do that, and I think that would be doing Cam.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: Let's remember the personality of Cam Newton compared to Jacobe.
- 1:55:16Speaker 6: You know it, Paul one hundred percent right about that.
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: I do wonder, and maybe it's just water finding its
- 1:55:21Speaker 6: level what Jacob were said. And he was playing a
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: little bit better for stretches in the beginning of training
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: camp than he actually was. But once we got to
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: the preseason, you know that first preseason game against Carolina
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: on he has not looked like the same guy. Like
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: his accuracy has been sporadic, his timing has been off
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: at times. I do wonder what happened there, you know,
- 1:55:42Speaker 6: I don't know. Maybe he's just not very good, that's
