Latest / Hear The Cannons - Tampa Bay Buccaneers Podcast / Todd Bowles to Remain Buccaneers Head Coach in 2026
Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: The Buccaneers are bringing back Todd Bowles for the 2026 season.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: It broke earlier this afternoon from Rick Straud of the Tampa Bay Times after communicating with Todd Bowles that he for sure is back as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: This has been a big time discussion after the season ended with the bucks, not making the playoffs also to a lot of chatter across the league of some potential names that could be the next head coach.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: For the bucks, that is completely wiped away and Tampa Bay is going to roll again with bowls who won them three division titles.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: As he let you know on Monday,
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: But this is a lot of a lot of question mark still left to be had with me as River Wells, our editor at BucksGameDay.com River your first instant reaction to this one with Todd Bulls coming back.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, if you want my first instant reaction, uh, I would say it's probably that it was a mistake.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Um, there's a lot to think about and we'll get into this for sure.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Further down this podcast, but bringing Todd Bowls back will make a lot of other things more difficult for the book and years, even with news, af changes.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be a part of what we're going to talk about.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be interesting to see.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think Bowles is still in the hot seat in 2026, for sure.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it's important to remember that the book and ears have never fired a coach mid-season out of the Glander's relationship.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: with that in mind, top bulls will coach 2026, for sure.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: But what that's going to look like is going to be interesting, I think, because they're going to have a lot of problems, I think, getting staff together and getting who they want, because of bulls' status going into next year.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think with that in mind, that's the biggest sort of hurdle that they're going to face when they get their staff together.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: But maybe he's already got some people picked out.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be interesting, but I'm curious how that ends up going.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Given Bowls might be a lane dog, can I get an extra?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, the four game skid, you had the streak there.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: You start off the season hot, you were six and two.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: Everything's looking fine, Baker, may feel potential MVP candidate.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Brissard looks like the next potential head coach for another team elsewhere.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then things start to unravel.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: And you could see it on the defensive side of the ball.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: explosive plays, explosive plays from opponents.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: That defensive side of the ball, under Todd Bowles, was one of the worst we've seen for the box.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was one of the worst in the league, and you brought back some veteran, you brought back Levantay David on that defensive side of the ball, in the linebacker room, which
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's a guy that just isn't plain to the caliber that you need.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly, when you have a lot of reliability and the way that this defense is ran under bulls, you brought in also two Hassan retic off the edge and free agency.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's practically the biggest move that you made.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: So yes, there's like we talked about earlier this morning.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of this is on the shoulders of a course with Jason Light as a general manager, but still
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: there was a lot of holes still going into the season defensively that you were going to have to improve but just to play on the field and the discussions and the locker room and some of the interviews and from Todd Bowles himself it just felt like a lot of disconnect and that's what I tweeted earlier after giving them
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, my reaction to the Todd Bowls News is I'm concerned about the locker room specifically because I don't think they're fully connected with their head coach.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: I might be fully wrong on that.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: They're, of course, talk highly of him and a lot of the media has asked about Todd Bowls's future, what are your thoughts on end?
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, they're going to
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: give their PR statement and say that they, you know, have a lot of respect and love Todd Bowles and the way that they could do things and such, that's going to be said, but just going off the mannerisms and the way that things look on the sideline, definitely not Miami game and just no one communicating with one another, no accountability, which was completely losses season river.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: That makes me deeply concerned going into 2026 because
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, like you just bought, I remember if they decided to make some coordinator changes, let's say, okay, Todd bull says I'm not going to retire at the fine if you bring in a defensive coordinator to call plays.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'll move into a CEO type role like a Mike Tomman or even a hardball.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be fine with doing that.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, still, I don't understand.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: At Todd Bow's is not a CEO coach.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to get your fired up.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's not going to be the kind of thing that he does.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: He also, yes, he brought in some good offensive coordinators.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: I just, he's been very loyal to some of these other assists and coaches for a long time.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't see where that's a great fit.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: to me.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what do you think, remember, is he going to still be calling plays in 2026?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, because we just talked, we just had a pot about Harball and all the other candidates and now are here.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: But we just talked about this.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: If Todd bulls,
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: gives up defensive play calling and remains the head coach, the book in the air.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Then he is not calling defensive place.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's obviously not calling offensive plays.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then he's got a clock management guy in Brian Veson, who they brought in to help with that aspect of his coaching, right?
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: So at that point, you began to wonder
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: if we just keep taking responsibilities away from talking more than what is he there for right and with that in mind i think he will continue to call the deep as i did mention in his press conference on monday there will almost certainly be changes to the defensive staff and a scheme he mentioned
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: trying to talk about, we have to get our guys doing what they're good at, which you think that would already be in the cards, I guess not, but there's going to be a change to scheme, it can be a change to defense of staff, and I imagine he will, because if he has a defensive coordinator, I agree, I don't see him as a CEO coach, but CEO coaches still do
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: other things.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: They still do clock management.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: They still handle other responsibilities, you know, and going for two and game flow and it doesn't seem like Todd's doing as much of that with the new guy that they hired.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: And with that in mind, what do you do?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: If that's the case.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I would imagine he's so gallblest.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I'm interested to see in the comments from you guys about Todd Bowles being, you know, the playcon defensive side of the ball that seems to be the directions that the glazers are fine with.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: If that ends up being the case, we expect for the box to of course go after a new offensive coordinator.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, though, putting a pretty rough position for Baker Mayfield.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, oh my goodness.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: For his time, at least what the box this would be his worth his worth.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: uh... different uh... offensive corner that he'd have to go through from canalice limcone josh grzard on to a new one so maybe they'll try to bring in someone with a relationship there with baker will have a lot more of a
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: a deeper dive into that in a later episode as we're focused on Todd Bowles here, but I just don't know the, I mean, now when we look at the fan base and we've seen the reaction after this season, you could actually see it for sure in the middle part of this year because that was something that was aggravating for the Bucks community was that here we go again.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go on a three game losing streak.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this time we're going to go on a four game losing streak and you never saw any kind of optimism for the next week and never saw improvement.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: You barely beat the airs on a carnal so we're got awful, you barely, you know, beat the pants, you barely beat it, mostly every not a good team.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: The Panthers are going to be absolutely smoked, they're going to get smoked this up coming weekend.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: So you didn't, you lost to an awful Miami Dolphins team as well, to a seventh round rookie quarterback.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: There was just no optimism and I don't know where this fan base where you sell tickets and get into a stadium which is very important as we've said plenty of times for the glasers who did not get a postseason Postseason game to hold and ramigame stadium remember
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a big one getting playoff tickets because that makes money.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: That makes TV deal money.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: That makes fan money.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: That brings in my city.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's always a big deal.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: And Todd Bulls has been good at getting one of those.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he hasn't been good at getting two.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, he's never gotten two home playoff games.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something to consider.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: And again, we were six and two at one point in Tampa Bay and now they're they're two and seven to end the stretch and they're missed the playoffs entirely.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's top of all the second season at eight and nine as head coach of the Buccaneers.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's 35 and 33 as head coach of the Buccaneers.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's one and three in the playoffs.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: He's five and 12 in prime time.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot to think about.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: It just makes you wonder.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: he didn't get extended for three years before this season, so he'll be on year two of that next year.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the coaching pool wasn't fantastic this year.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Now you got horrible now entering the
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: do they not want to get a young unproven candidate do they want to work otherwise what are they waiting for what would be my question what are you looking to see that you haven't quite seen yet out of a top bull's book and he's team it feels like he's kind of approaching or hit his ceiling at that 10 and 798-89 sort of thing and coaches should be like any other position if you can get better
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: get better that off season.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what the time they were going to decide not to do.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they didn't make enough moves in the off season.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: Some that hold they hold back from and freight free agency outside of Hassan Reddick and there was still question marks of how you know what you were going to get out of Reddick and sure enough not enough not enough at all two and a half sacks on the season was injured from majority of it throughout would come back into a
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: in the middle part of it or completely be gone from the game.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Just that was a bad pick up there for the bucks and this off season and we touched on it a lot and this morning's episode.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: But we discussed things that they needed to do in the NFL draft and they went after a Mecca Buka, a first round wide receiver.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, yeah, he stepped up to the play when you desperately needed it to be, needed him to be whenever Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, you know, guys, deal with injuries or come and back.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you had to have a mechic bouquet there, but as a thing, it's an ongoing trend for this this front office is they just can't find a fit there find anybody at pass rush because Chris, as well, was an absolute bust for them.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, there's the idea of the hobby, but he needs someone on the other side, he needs someone else on the other side to match.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: and help him a little bit to get more opportunities.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: The IIDABI isn't a big time past Russia for you, but he does better whenever you do have a better threat on the other side.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: He can excel better.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just who the IIDABI is.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: But they did not.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: They went on the redic side of things and did that there.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: But they still were desperate to go ahead and get his son redic because they didn't do anything and NFL draft.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: River then that was concerning to all of us and of course David Walker, but that was someone later on in the NFL draft You were gonna expect for him.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: That was a fifth round pick though, you know, I mean it would have been nice David Walker came out and
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: was the answer at edge russia but there was no guarantee that was the case exactly wasn't a sure fire hey this guy can do right jason light will draft all these players in the all make the team and two u d f a is a team every here and let's talk about though the box of the most homegrown talent the NFL but sometimes it's not there hmm so
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's something to think about as well.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: Any coordinator will be thinking about that too.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: If they want to come to Tampa Bay and call offensive place, should Josh bizarre to be fired?
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of looking like that's going to be the case.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: What do you see that you like in this situation?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're probably going to get fired.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: the year after bulls are sitting duck you know that your GM's not going to be very aggressive to go get more talent because he just hasn't been in the past.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to soil rely on the draft which can be a crap student general and you're walking into a situation that's extremely unstable and people say oh well you could just become head coach after or would you want to give in all of that so.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's going to be a tough sell for new coaches in Tampa Bay.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a tough sell and then Todd Bowles has his guys and he really likes.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: who have been on the team with the coding staff for years now and once those are gone does he have the connections to be able to bring in new talent, new blood that'll be another question.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an interesting decision.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: It feels financially driven.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I can't speak to that because I don't know personally, but it feels financially driven.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because otherwise, if it's not, then what else do you need to see?
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned that previously, but what else do you need to see at that one?
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I go to last year.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: So Liam Cohen coaching one of the best offenses in the league for the bucks.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Baker may field have any proble year when the top quarterbacks in the league last year.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Bucky Irving, the running game came back after it being disastrous and years prior, but that came back offensive line was clicking.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: wider seabers were getting the ball, points were being put up on the board, and then, you know, what kind of hurts you on the other side was too defensively.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that's still the direction that you're heading, and guess what, your play collar on that defensive side of the ball, as Todd Bowls and, you know, with Liam Cohen, you know, that whole situation there, the box had reportedly offered him, you know, the biggest offer that an offensive coordinator or
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: But the box are the Jaguars got rid of their GM and that's all it took for Liam Cone to say, okay, now I'm listening and I'm way more interested in taking that gig and within about 24 hours.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: he was gone from Tampa and he's headed over to Duval and Jackson will take the head of coaching job and now you do see what Liam Cohen has been able to do in such a short amount of time in Jackson.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually really impressive and he did the same thing.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: 13 wins, baby.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's doing exactly what he did with Baker Mayfield now with Trevor Lawrence and it's so quick and fast and
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna be fighting as they're one of the top NFL teams right now going in the playoffs.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of high expectations for them now that You never really had going into this season.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they'll do.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're one of the top guys.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: They're top guy that they brought into the draft a Travis Hunter So I think it's wildly impressive there, but the glazers have some kind of I don't know what it is obligation almost feels like with with Todd Bowles and it's fascinating to me
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I know we keep hearing from Bruce Arians, researches, is not with the books staff anymore.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's not there with them.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: And on the front office or anything, the eyes there is that he did give the keys to Todd Bowles whenever he decided to retire and be done as a head coach and Tampa.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, it's a laser sting with poles, and they still feel strongly about them.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how strongly they feel much anymore after this season, but they still have enough left in the tank to ride with them going in the 2026.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: I just think this fan base is fed up with it.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a fan base.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, they've gotten used to, yes, winning the division in such, but this season was different.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't just like, oh, man, got close is what it is.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you saw like the regression of the season river.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was bad.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was ugly.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: The locker was lost and it's all over the place still at this moment from the interviews that we got.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's just only a select few of players we got to speak with.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't anybody in that locker room except for maybe a couple of starters.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: And those interviews did not sound great.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: None of them sound like they were all aligned with one another.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's wildly concerning going into the off season, whether there's a lot of question marks, a lot of roster reconstruction, staff changes, and you're riding what that same head coach, where you could have maybe gone after a new one, hit the reset button because I'll be honest with you.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think the bucks and the fan base need to be a little concerned about what the falcons could do here.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: They can make a massive move.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: An unquestionable.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: And they should.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they are preparing to do so.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then to the Saints, you know, they already have their head coach, but they feel highly on what they have at the quarterback position.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's been their biggest thing holding them back for the most part.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: They could be looking at themselves like, hey, we might not even be in the top, not a top two team and NFC South in 2026 at this rate.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Saints were on a run.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: The Falcons have a lot of talent, guys.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: They really do.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: And to be honest with you, they're going to use it.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: They've got Beechon Robinson, Drake London, Jesse Bates, Ettero, young stud editors, and Jayle Walker, and James Pearce.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: I can be a dangerous team with a really competent leadership, and they need a quarterback, and that's the hardest one.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: So not to figure that out, but if they do, I mean, that's going to be a dangerous team, the Saints ended this season five and three on a good run.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Schuck looks like he's going to play good football, and they can work around that, and they have a lot of cat space for the first time in forever this season.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's not looking like the buck can just coast to an S.E.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: South when this time, right?
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's looking like top holes that had to really go out there and earn it and he couldn't do that while starting six and two this year.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, gonna be tough, man.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Gonna be real tough.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how it's gonna go, but right now I would predict that they don't climb a top of the N.F.E.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: South again with both the home.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of pieces that now have to be let go and then now brought in and put together across the board Defensively, I you know, I'm already getting text right now.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: What's the future of Mike Evans?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: What is what is Mike Evans?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: Thoughts on this we saw his reaction on the sideline What game was that the Falcons game?
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't look too happy about that defensive collapse.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: No, third and 28, third and 28 absolutely pissed off as he should have been.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was carrying that team to try to win that game and all they needed at the end of the day was just one win and that defense collapsed right in front of your face, right in front of Mike Evans face.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we were talking about it earlier today.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I felt like Mike Evans would come back for another season.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these are still got some energy there, some competitiveness, but
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: It just really is all going to depend on what they bring in at offensive coordinator.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Is he tired of it too as well?
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: We think about Baker Mayfield all the time and that's, of course, he's a quarterback.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be the main focus of the change coordinators.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: But man, all man is, is Mike Evans going to get tired of this because they're not going to look for somebody in-house again.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be somebody that is necessarily going to be the same system, you know, you're going to bring in a new one.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: In order to, of course, you can fit it around.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: know your person now and try to outline it as close as you can, but this is going to be the preference of a new offensive coordinator and this is going to be another one for my heavens to have to adjust to and such and he's a guy that's a free agent this offseason.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: What does he do?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Remember like what what is he thinking about right now with this decision?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think that evidence is going to come back and play was my initial thought right at the end of the season at the beginning.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like he was going to retire, but now at the end, based on how his collarbone went, I think he got to come back right.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, yeah, I mean, if you don't like top old, it's something to think about and if you have to learn a new offensive system, another thing to think about and that depends on again, what offensive coordinator candidate is going to want to come to Tampa Bay knowing what the situation looks like.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: and I don't know if you're going to get a lot of offers or people jumping at the opportunity.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretending that opportunity and, you know, normally, for guys like Grant Odinsky's never called place before with love.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: The opportunity to do that or Nate Sheelhouse, people love to talk about Nate Sheelhouse in Los Angeles and definitely a viable candidate in that regard.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: But do you want to do that here in Tampa Bay and knowing what you know about top bulls, knowing what you know about.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: how the offense went last year knowing we know what the defense and how much still needs to happen the defense to be competitive.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not so those are things that top or that my Kevin is going to have to think about.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see if you can have to think about it and.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right now it's still think he's probably going to stay but.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: New things to think about the top bulls come back.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's all to me all up in the air for a guy like him, and there's a there's I mean we've got a lot of stuff to discuss We went forward.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: We'll probably jump on here later on in the week regarding Josh Resard and his future and what that looks like We can start looking for candidates at the offensive coordinator position for the bucks
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: But this is where you're at.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Books are bringing back their head coach.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's won you three division titles.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we got a common end here saying that this fan base is ungrateful.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: Three division titles and one down year and some of you all are lining.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: If you're crying, what's the baby to do just a bunch of talking heads?
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I would say if you want to just win division titles, that's fine.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's the ultimate goal that you have as a football fan.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Then I want to win the division and do nothing else.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that's fine, but that success is fine by me.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Then, then sure, top bowls as ceiling could probably do that for you.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: We could win a really bad NFC South division.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: And if top bowls is in any other,
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, this box team, I should say, it wasn't any other division.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: They would not be winning division championships.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be out of the playoffs every year with 10, 7, 9 and 8 records, you know, 8, 9 records, twice.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: So, exactly correct.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, right there, that's your goal.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's your goal.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: But this box team wants to do more.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: People want more.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: The box fans tasted a Super Bowl in 2020 and extended playoff run in 2021.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: They went to the divisional round.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: They want more and they state they can get it.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: If Baker may feel the guy, why can't you do that, right?
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: If you've got the weapons of Mike Evans and Chris Collins, why can't you do that?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, I think that's a pretty conservative goa take, especially in a division that's been the worst division in football straight up for the last four years.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, I mean, yeah, that's all you want, that's all the glazers want, and Todd Bulls can get you that, but it's not looking like you can do much beyond that.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, James saying here with the exception of the first division title 8 9 and 98 records are going to win squat in any other division in this NFC division in FC South division is not great.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's bad.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's awful.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's ugly and it showed its true colors this year.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, but it really showed its true colors in 2025.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: It is not competitive.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's not and if that's fine, if that's a glaze, if that's what glazers and maybe just a few.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: fans like Ryan wanted to be in just when you're division then so be it that's what you that's what you want to be but I don't like like River said though when you go anyone in the Super Bowl like you did in 2020 and also to put a lot of resources into doing that bringing in guys like one of Tom Brady uh... ground caliskey in there Leonard for now like
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you know, you're going all in and you want to make a move for a, you know, Super Bowl.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: And now, you know, those expectations have risen.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you still have a lot of talent on this team to get talent there to work with now.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: You have talent on.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: All offense.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: You have very little talent defensively and more and defensively you're in trouble defensively.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: And again, any any other coordinators or coaches you want to go here going to have to know that you're going to need a lot of help on that side of a lot of help.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where the agreement between that new coordinator or whatever.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, it's still going to be Todd Bols of these.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's got to be a change there on the outlook.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Bols did want more players in free agency or Jason Light though.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't really show that he wants to go after some of those guys and free agency.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: But that was a big mess.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: And we covered that heavily above game day was that, you know, before the trade deadline, they didn't make any moves.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: There was no moves being made there.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: The only big news they really made was in the special teams and that did not do well for you brought in one of the best special teams players And he did make a play for you.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's the last That's true.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: That was our last Saturday.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean to say, but that's about it.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's all you got there That and everything else outside of that special teams is an absolute disaster yada yada yada yada yada and keep going on about that, but
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt the bucks will have to make serious moves and definitely it's all sided majority is on the defensive side of the ball and it was really aggravating.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure because we harped on it a whole ton, remember you and I were at training cam and such and you're like, man, you're bringing all these piece back, you're bringing that whole offense back for another season.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: But you didn't bring your coordinator with you.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: And we're starting to really find out that Liam Cohen was the true hard beat of what that offense was able to put the talent that he was given.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was Liam Cohen and a first year play call or just that was a major risk.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: That was always going to be a risk for the bucks to take.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_01]: They wanted to do that because they wanted to have Baker Mayfield still ride with that system that he knows and make things easier for him.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: you could tell throughout the middle of season though Baker had some question marks moving forward on, you know, some things of how the offense was being ran, and yeah, that's a, it's a, it's a, it's a very, it's a fired up fan base right now as they should be.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Brainfully, absolutely rightfully.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Perry saying here of bulls deserves another year.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So does Grisard.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Why would another off as a corner you want to come here when they will just toss you out after year one that dealt with top players out Of course with bulls this might be one year away.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: The thing about this is that the bucks were six and two With the most injuries they had this season and then they got healthy and jam at millen came back and my heavens came back
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: And the Macon book was still there and Chris Godwin got healthy and Bucky Irving came back to the fold and they went to in seven.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it got worse.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: It actually got worse.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think I wrote from Bob Joe Bucks fan was brought that up to him on the press around Monday River.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: He said, hey, yeah, you know, what happened though after that collapsed after the by week where you started bringing back players that were injured and they slowly started coming back and everybody was waiting
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: But then they got worse, it worse.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: So Jeff, because I don't think had all the tools as a disposal at the back end of the year when it mattered the most, and didn't do much with them.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the mark of a great offensive coordinator is the ability to make changes and still be effective when faced with that version like Andrew's because it's the NFL.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen had a lot of injuries during his tenure in Tampa Bay as well.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: and they were a top five offense the whole year.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, Grisard, I think, you know, could get another chance further down the line.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: These very young, he's working to a lot of really talented offensive minds, but I do anticipate he probably will not be the offensive coordinator going forward.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: Now, to your point, Perry, he said, why would another OC want to come here?
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because bulls might be one year away.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: I agree 100% with that.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: you're seeing in this job, if you know that top bulls could be fired.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be a huge problem.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have to overcome.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_01]: know what's funny is today just matching this into what James has here on Facebook saying find an offensive corner that can be also an assistant coach with the possibility of moving into the coaching position after balls and we talked about that actually this morning what that doesn't happen a lot guys that doesn't happen a lot remember the last time the buck in years did this they fired lovey Smith and hired dirt cutter
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: that did not end well.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_00]: Teams don't usually fire in the NFL fire there at coach to replace them with another assistant coach.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean it's possible but that's not a common thing that happens.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm keeping an eye on here supposedly the dolphins got in contact with our right with John Harbourner.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then if Mike McDaniel were really fired,
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: What he want to come here?
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's a short drive up, huh?
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: Short drive up.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you get to stand right up.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: But he would have to think about, oh, am I going to be employed a year from now?
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: The stability in Tampa Bay?
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: No, not great.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's a cure right now.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's a cure whatsoever.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, no, there's some still people rhyme with bowls and that's fine.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: You can get your divisions.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: You can get your division title and call a day.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: and maybe get a winning record, but, you know, that's, I just, we'll see, we'll see, you know, the Blazers, you know, have made their statement here, you know, not.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: uh... not written or anything but uh... from today speaking with rick shroud of tambi times and uh... old saying that he's back for twenty twenty six and gonna be interested see what kind of staff changes are made there is going to be uh... right up and all across the board heavily on the deep on the defensive side for sure uh... but we'll have a whole ton of more content before the end of this week definitely a bucks and date dot com you guys can go read rivers
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: piece over there on Todd Bowls being retained for twenty twenty six and also two we'll have some other pieces from reactions across the national media landscape maybe we'll have some player reactions as well and we'll start doing some deep dives into potential new coordinators coming in for the Tambi back in years going to be interested see what Bowls does defensively
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: if he adds in, you know, whatever that might be, as an coordinator, kind of assistance you bring it in, they're definitely certainly has to be changes there as well.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: But that's going to do it for us here on our instant reaction of Bowles come back for 26.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you're still with us here on YouTube and join the content, we're going to be here doing all kinds of
