- 0:00Speaker 1: Here on a Thursday afternoon. If you like to text
- 0:03Speaker 1: the program, feel free to do just that.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All you have to do is.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Text the word texas followed by your questioner comment to
- 0:15Speaker 1: eight one five three zero. Again, you text the word
- 0:19Speaker 1: texas followed by your question comment to eight one five
- 0:22Speaker 1: three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply. Now,
- 0:27Speaker 1: just a couple other notes on this world series, then
- 0:30Speaker 1: we'll move on to some football things. I pointed out
- 0:34Speaker 1: that that's how that fifthening comeback happened for the Dodgers
- 0:41Speaker 1: from down five to nothing to coming back and tying
- 0:45Speaker 1: the score with the two innings, and also, excuse me,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the two errors and then also Garrett Cole not covering
- 0:54Speaker 1: the back at first. Later there was a ball called
- 0:59Speaker 1: and they just they wound up with three errors total
- 1:02Speaker 1: in the ball game. And after the game, first you
- 1:09Speaker 1: had the the captain obvious moment when Aaron Judge was
- 1:16Speaker 1: asked about the era in the fifth end, he goes,
- 1:18Speaker 1: that didn't happen.
- 1:19Speaker 2: We get a different story tonight. Yeah, maybe maybe so. Yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 2: So there was there was that to that, and I
- 1:31Speaker 2: mentioned I.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Think it's important to point out that Garrett Cole looked
- 1:35Speaker 1: like he recovered himself after the two errors, the one
- 1:38Speaker 1: the one by judging, the one by Vulpi. He struck
- 1:41Speaker 1: out Gavin lux on four pitches, including a ninety nine
- 1:45Speaker 1: mile an hour fastball. He struck out show A Otani
- 1:50Speaker 1: on four pitches. Otani chased a curveball outside, so it
- 1:54Speaker 1: looked like he was gonna get out of it. Mookie
- 1:57Speaker 1: Betts that squibbler that he hit off his bat. It
- 2:00Speaker 1: was forty nine miles an hour dribbling out toward first
- 2:04Speaker 1: and because it bounced to Anthony Rizzo with so much spin,
- 2:08Speaker 1: he didn't charge it. He stayed back to make the play.
- 2:11Speaker 1: The glove it cleanly, which of course meant he needed
- 2:13Speaker 1: Cole to cover first base to get Bets, but col
- 2:16Speaker 1: didn't finished the run. Garrett Cole's quote was, I took
- 2:19Speaker 1: a bad angle to the ball. I wasn't sure really
- 2:22Speaker 1: off the bout how hard he hit it. I took
- 2:24Speaker 1: a direct angle to it, as if to cut it
- 2:26Speaker 1: off because I didn't know. I just didn't know how
- 2:28Speaker 1: hard he hit it. By the time the ball got
- 2:30Speaker 1: by me, I was not in position to cover first
- 2:32Speaker 1: Neither of us were based on the spin of the
- 2:34Speaker 1: baseball and him having to secure. It just a bad
- 2:38Speaker 1: read off the bat. But again they scored their first
- 2:41Speaker 1: run because of that, which went down to the box,
- 2:44Speaker 1: scores an infield single. But then Freeman comes up with
- 2:47Speaker 1: a two run single, and then taoskcar Nanda's with a
- 2:49Speaker 1: two run double judge again, another captain obvious comment. You
- 2:53Speaker 1: can't give them extra outs like that. They're going to capitalize,
- 2:56Speaker 1: especially with the top of the order. They don't miss.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah to the deal. They opened the door and the
- 3:01Speaker 1: Dodgers went through that, all right. The other the other
- 3:04Speaker 1: thing about that is it had the Yankees won that game,
- 3:10Speaker 1: as we pointed out, had they sent it back to
- 3:13Speaker 1: Los Angeles, they would have been the first team to
- 3:17Speaker 1: force a game six after being down three.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Games to none.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Instead, the Dodgers became the first team in Major League
- 3:24Speaker 1: history to overcome a deficit of five or more runs
- 3:28Speaker 1: in a series, deciding game to be down five to
- 3:32Speaker 1: nothing going into the fifth and the back when that's
- 3:34Speaker 1: the first time that's happened in baseball. So there's all
- 3:37Speaker 1: sorts of little things about that. It was the Dodgers'
- 3:40Speaker 1: eighth World championship, seven of those in Los Angeles, the
- 3:45Speaker 1: one in Brooklyn, here's another couple of little weird OCD
- 3:49Speaker 1: footnotes on my part as a Dodger fan, died, I
- 3:51Speaker 1: want them to sweep them. Yes, but but there's kind
- 3:55Speaker 1: of some synergy in them and compartmentalization in them winning
- 3:59Speaker 1: in five game. She see, the Dodgers had beaten the
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yankees in seven games when they were in Brooklyn in
- 4:04Speaker 1: fifty five. They swept them in four sixty three. By
- 4:09Speaker 1: the way, Yankees have never swept the Dodgers. But so Brooklyn,
- 4:13Speaker 1: the Dodgers won in seven of the Yankees in fifty
- 4:15Speaker 1: five they won in four straight, and sixty three they
- 4:17Speaker 1: won in six games.
- 4:19Speaker 2: In eighty one. They had never beaten the Yankees in five.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Now they have.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So there was that little weird footnote to come out
- 4:29Speaker 1: of it. And yes, as I mentioned, the Dodgers won
- 4:31Speaker 1: eight World tizing. Yankees won twenty seven, more than any
- 4:36Speaker 1: team in any sport, twenty seven World championships. It is
- 4:39Speaker 1: fair to point out now they've lost fourteen World Series
- 4:44Speaker 1: so and four of those to the Dodgers. So when
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yankee fans say, hey, we won twenty seven World time,
- 4:51Speaker 1: yes they did, and a lot of those were in
- 4:54Speaker 1: the twenties and thirties and forties and fifties. They haven't
- 4:58Speaker 1: won one in fifteen years, but of course they had
- 5:02Speaker 1: that great run in the nineties as well, and that's
- 5:04Speaker 1: what they're trying to build back to. But the question
- 5:06Speaker 1: will be will they have all of the parts the
- 5:10Speaker 1: heavy duty rumors seemed to be that one SODA's not
- 5:12Speaker 1: going to be there, that he's going to go to
- 5:14Speaker 1: the highest bidder at this point, So we'll see on that.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So those were a couple of footnotes about that World
- 5:24Speaker 1: Series and then and as I mentioned, some might have
- 5:26Speaker 1: been shocked with how it wound up being the way
- 5:29Speaker 1: that it did, and maybe it shouldn't have been that
- 5:37Speaker 1: shocking because the Yankees kind of struggled defensively throughout the
- 5:40Speaker 1: course of the year. Now, they covered up a lot
- 5:42Speaker 1: of it by I think Karl Ravits from ESPN put
- 5:44Speaker 1: in this way, said they bludgeoned people. So it covered
- 5:47Speaker 1: up a lot of those mistakes. But against a very
- 5:50Speaker 1: fundamentally sound team in a high pressure environment, it showed up.
- 5:56Speaker 1: So anyway, that's some up there with regard to the
- 6:01Speaker 1: World Series. And again, if you have feedback on that
- 6:04Speaker 1: and get to that. So it's Halloween, do you have
- 6:08Speaker 1: a favorite candy growing up? Trigger treating when you would
- 6:11Speaker 1: go out trick or treating, and this this is a
- 6:13Speaker 1: good question for the text line that not just what's
- 6:16Speaker 1: your favorite candy? I'm asking when you went out trick
- 6:20Speaker 1: or treating, what's and and you had that sack to
- 6:23Speaker 1: get your stuff on a pillow case or whatever, and
- 6:26Speaker 1: you got all that candy in there, what was the
- 6:28Speaker 1: one that you wanted to pull out and eat right away?
- 6:32Speaker 1: And what was the one you didn't care if you
- 6:34Speaker 1: got any more of those ever again, and would either
- 6:36Speaker 1: give them away or throw them out.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So for me, yeah, go first, Uh, don't celebrate Halloween,
- 6:42Speaker 3: never did so, never did trick or treat. But my
- 6:44Speaker 3: favorite candy growing up probably would be I still say.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Rece's, even though it's Reese's, Reese's Reese's peanut butter cups
- 6:51Speaker 1: or the Reese's pieces, the peanut butter cups.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Okay, not a big fan of the pieces, Okay, but.
- 6:57Speaker 3: The peanut butter cups. Yeah, that's that's my kryptonite.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Crag. It's good, It's really good.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I could go, I could go through a pack and
- 7:04Speaker 3: during the holidays, yeah, I mean, they look for any
- 7:06Speaker 3: excuse to make the market. They'll do like the Christmas
- 7:10Speaker 3: tree ones, Yeah, funny ones.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, like the snowman ones or the.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll be like a big it'll be just like
- 7:18Speaker 3: a bigger peanut butter.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Cup pumpkin ones that does shaped like a pumpkin and
- 7:22Speaker 1: Halloween even though it's chocolate peanut butter.
- 7:24Speaker 2: And then they'll do the white chocolate ones. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 3: And now I'm going to huld be the night. And
- 7:31Speaker 3: well we told tomorrow when everything's on sale, right, isn't
- 7:34Speaker 3: that the.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that's that's that's good. That's very smart of you. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: going going to do that. For me, it was always
- 7:40Speaker 1: a Snickers. I think if there was just one regular
- 7:43Speaker 1: run of the mill all time go to candy bar.
- 7:47Speaker 1: For me, it was always a Snickers because it had
- 7:49Speaker 1: a little bit of everything in chocolate, peanut butter or
- 7:51Speaker 1: peanut caramel, nougat, had all that kind of stuff. Everyone
- 7:54Speaker 1: Tom Harmon was the coach, used to say and they
- 7:56Speaker 1: asked him one's favorite Halloween candy was and he said
- 7:59Speaker 1: anything with.
- 7:59Speaker 2: New It nugat. He was in. He was in that
- 8:05Speaker 2: he liked nuked for that. All right.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Uh, college football note, I've got a note coming up
- 8:15Speaker 1: on something weird. We started to get into it yesterday,
- 8:19Speaker 1: but I'm gonna I'll get into greater.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I'll get into a greater detail in this coming up.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And inconceivable.
- 8:28Speaker 1: However, there's a really big college football game this weekend.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And it's not Florida Georgia. It's not even Ohios State
- 8:38Speaker 1: penn Stake. I mean that those are big games for sure.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It's Pittsburgh and SMU. Pitt and SMU playing in Dallas.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And we mentioned yesterday there were a lot of fans
- 8:50Speaker 1: that were grumbling about this thing that's going to wind
- 8:52Speaker 1: up on ACC Network instead of on one of the
- 8:54Speaker 1: regular linear ESPN family of networks. But it is going
- 8:58Speaker 1: to be on ACC Network. Well, good news for both programs.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Eli Holstein, the Panthers quarterback, is going to be available
- 9:11Speaker 1: to go. He had gotten banged up in the winter
- 9:15Speaker 1: for Syracuse last week and he has been cleared so
- 9:19Speaker 1: he will play. And in addition to that, SMU got
- 9:24Speaker 1: good news as well. Kevin Jennings. He took a big
- 9:28Speaker 1: hit to the knee in the win over Duke. He
- 9:30Speaker 1: had been listed as questionable, but pet Tamil reporting that
- 9:35Speaker 1: Jennings is expected to try and play against Pittsburgh. He
- 9:37Speaker 1: still needs to be clear for contact, but he practiced
- 9:40Speaker 1: this week in a limited capacity. He's the guy who
- 9:42Speaker 1: started the season as the backup to Preston Stone stepped
- 9:46Speaker 1: into the starting role. He's the guy at quarterback South
- 9:48Speaker 1: Olkcliff to the back to back state championships, Kevin Jennings.
- 9:52Speaker 2: So it looks like he will be ready to go
- 9:54Speaker 2: on that.
- 9:54Speaker 1: All right, coming up, I've got another college football note
- 9:58Speaker 1: that just has to be part of M Conceivable, which
- 10:00Speaker 1: we had to coming up next here on sports Radio
- 10:02Speaker 1: AM thirteen under Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
