- 0:26Speaker 2: In two car out of the shotgunt Alvin.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Jewis, he's got pressure coming all.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It brings Alvin to us right, takes the snap stands
- 0:35Speaker 2: Now he's in trouble. Balls loose picked up by Valdez scantwin.
- 0:40Speaker 2: But that's it.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Obviously disappointing, you know, really, my biggest takeaway probably from
- 0:46Speaker 3: this game is just when we didn't finish, we didn't
- 0:47Speaker 3: finish drives, we didn't finish out the game, we didn't
- 0:50Speaker 3: finish the second half very well. And that's the things
- 0:53Speaker 3: we've been doing the last couple of games. So again
- 0:55Speaker 3: you're gonna you're gonna be in football games, and he's
- 0:57Speaker 3: won score games against good football teams at home. You
- 0:59Speaker 3: gotta be we'll finish off. We did a lot of
- 1:01Speaker 3: things in a game that we set out to do
- 1:04Speaker 3: and played the game in a lot of ways that
- 1:07Speaker 3: we wanted to, but we didn't execute in crunch time.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Saints lose to the Rams twenty one to fourteen. They
- 1:12Speaker 1: fall to four and eight on the season, just three
- 1:14Speaker 1: and four at the Dome. It's such a conflicting loss.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's so weird to say it this way, but it's
- 1:21Speaker 1: such a conflicting loss. You know, on Sunday Atlanta loses
- 1:25Speaker 1: at home to the Chargers, and so a win, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: you knew that when you kicked off against the Rams.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So a win over the Rams would have put the
- 1:36Speaker 1: Saints one game back in the lost column. Now I
- 1:40Speaker 1: know they didn't have the tiebreaker, but one game back
- 1:42Speaker 1: in the lost column with five to go, Like, if
- 1:48Speaker 1: you win the game against the Rams on your home field,
- 1:52Speaker 1: it is very much within reach. The division is very
- 1:58Speaker 1: much up for grabs with five games to go, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: all of the things that have plagued you or that
- 2:08Speaker 1: plagued you during the seven game losing streak all reared
- 2:11Speaker 1: their ugly head. You couldn't finish drives, your run defense
- 2:15Speaker 1: in the second half was atrocious. No Eric McCoy, no
- 2:20Speaker 1: Lucas Patrick, Nick SALDEVERI went down. We know Taysom got
- 2:23Speaker 1: hurt at the end of the game as well, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: all of the things that had been a problem during
- 2:29Speaker 1: that losing streak all cropped up again, and that's a loss.
- 2:35Speaker 1: So I said, it's conflicting. On one hand, it's conflicting
- 2:38Speaker 1: because you found a way to win. You're going to
- 2:40Speaker 1: New York this week to play a miserable Giants team
- 2:45Speaker 1: in a very winnable game with a I mean a
- 2:52Speaker 1: not likely but not impossible shot at the division. But
- 2:57Speaker 1: now that you've lost, your playoff hopes for all intents
- 3:03Speaker 1: and purposes are over. Mathematically, the Saints playoff odds they
- 3:06Speaker 1: have dropped now to less than one percent. So with
- 3:09Speaker 1: five games to go, and you're really three games back,
- 3:13Speaker 1: with five to go, you've got a less than one
- 3:16Speaker 1: percent probability of making the playoffs. So I know this
- 3:22Speaker 1: team's gonna fight and play hard and try to win games.
- 3:26Speaker 1: But really, right now you've turned the page, you look
- 3:28Speaker 1: to the future. As for the game itself, the way
- 3:37Speaker 1: it started is probably what's gonna get stuck in your
- 3:40Speaker 1: craw at least for me. Anyway, you open the game
- 3:43Speaker 1: with a twelve play drive, you can't finish with a touchdown,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but you finish with the field goal. You get points.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You're controlling the ball, you controlling the clock, and you
- 3:52Speaker 1: get points. You're up three to nothing. Then boom, you
- 3:54Speaker 1: force a three and out. One of my big concerns
- 3:57Speaker 1: in this game was the Saints defense and their ability
- 4:03Speaker 1: to stop the Rams pass offense. Well, a pass game
- 4:07Speaker 1: that torched you a year ago, and now you're without
- 4:10Speaker 1: Latimore on a debot, So you force a three and out.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Then you get the ball and you go on a
- 4:16Speaker 1: fourteen play drive and you actually get in the end
- 4:18Speaker 1: zone man beautiful run by Alvin Kamara, power in his
- 4:22Speaker 1: way into the end zone at the goal line, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: then it's negated because Talisa Fuwongo was ineligible man downfield,
- 4:30Speaker 1: which was no it wasn't a screen, there was no
- 4:31Speaker 1: reason for him to be downfield. So the touchdown comes
- 4:34Speaker 1: off the board. And then Trevor Penning gets an illegal
- 4:38Speaker 1: chop block call, and then Blake Groupy misses a thirty
- 4:42Speaker 1: six yard field goal, just his second miss of the year.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Miss is a freaking chip shot. So fourteen play drive
- 4:47Speaker 1: goes for nought and instead of being up ten to
- 4:49Speaker 1: nothing and being a complete command of this game, you're
- 4:53Speaker 1: up three to nothing and you've left the door open.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It felt uncomfortable at that moment. Still, the defense was
- 5:00Speaker 1: really good in the first half. You held Stafford to
- 5:02Speaker 1: just twenty three passing yards in the first half. That
- 5:05Speaker 1: was the first time the Rams had been shut out
- 5:08Speaker 1: in the half in the regular season under Sean mcvayh Like,
- 5:10Speaker 1: let that sink in. The last time the Rams were
- 5:13Speaker 1: shut out in the first half of a regular season
- 5:15Speaker 1: game was twenty sixteen, incidentally against Atlanta. Now, the Patriots
- 5:21Speaker 1: shut him out in the first half of that Super
- 5:22Speaker 1: Bowl when the Pats won at thirteen to three. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: I mean, your defense, which had been much maligned, was
- 5:28Speaker 1: playing great in the first half against a formidable offense.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It's now healthy. But similarly, as impressive as the defense
- 5:38Speaker 1: was in the first half, they were equal parts disappointing
- 5:41Speaker 1: in the second half. These were the Rams second half drives, touchdown, punt, touchdown, touchdown,
- 5:48Speaker 1: end of the game. I mean, Matthew Stafford threw for
- 5:52Speaker 1: twenty three yards in the first half through for one
- 5:56Speaker 1: sixty in the second half. I mean, everything you did
- 6:00Speaker 1: well in the first half unraveled defensively in the second half.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Credit Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay for making the necessary adjustments,
- 6:07Speaker 1: whatever they were, but they flipped that switch in the
- 6:09Speaker 1: second half, even after you tied the game with a
- 6:13Speaker 1: two point conversion. You let them go right down the
- 6:15Speaker 1: field on you to take the lead right back, which
- 6:17Speaker 1: was so disappointing. Man eight play, fifty six yard drive
- 6:20Speaker 1: just under three minutes off the clock. I mean they they,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I mean they just snatched the momentum right back from you.
- 6:29Speaker 1: One positive is Alvin Kamara. This is obviously mostly lost
- 6:32Speaker 1: season and there's not a whole lot to celebrate. But
- 6:35Speaker 1: if you didn't notice Kamara twenty three rushes one hundred
- 6:38Speaker 1: and twelve yards for Alvin now, he is on the
- 6:43Speaker 1: season just under nine hundred yards. He's at eight to
- 6:47Speaker 1: ninety four rushing on the season, means Alvin Kamara is
- 6:50Speaker 1: one hundred and six yards away from his first ever
- 6:54Speaker 1: one thousand yard rushing seat. He's never had a thousand
- 6:56Speaker 1: yard season in the NFL, so he is he is
- 6:59Speaker 1: one hundred in six yards away from his first thousand
- 7:01Speaker 1: yard season. Which he will, no doubt achieve, and that's
- 7:04Speaker 1: great to see. You know, Kamara is a guy who
- 7:08Speaker 1: deserves a tremendous amount of respect. There's a lot of
- 7:12Speaker 1: guys who, when they wanted contracts, would have held out,
- 7:16Speaker 1: would have played hardball. Kamara played and even as things
- 7:20Speaker 1: with this team unraveled in a seven game losing streak,
- 7:23Speaker 1: he's continued to come out and play his best football
- 7:26Speaker 1: of his career and now he's in line for his
- 7:28Speaker 1: first thousand yard season of his career, which is awesome.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So that's something on an individual level to cheer for.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Or you know, they play out the string here with
- 7:36Speaker 1: five games to go. I'd be remiss if I didn't
- 7:40Speaker 1: mention Taysom Hill's injury, which is probably the single biggest
- 7:44Speaker 1: takeaway of the game. Darren Rizzy did confirm on Monday
- 7:52Speaker 1: what we all feared Sunday when when Tasom Hill was carted.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Off in two card No no, no, Taysom he got
- 8:00Speaker 3: a knee injury. He's going to be looks like it's
- 8:02Speaker 3: going to be season ending for him, unfortunately. Uh you know,
- 8:06Speaker 3: I think could probably get a second opinion on some
- 8:08Speaker 3: of the stuff, but it looks like he'll be season ending.
- 8:11Speaker 1: He was asked to follow up his an ACL didn't specify,
- 8:15Speaker 1: but Taysom Hill done for the year. Now, you know
- 8:20Speaker 1: Taysom missed. There there's two parts of this. There's what
- 8:24Speaker 1: it means for this year's team and then what it
- 8:25Speaker 1: means for Taysom's future. And we'll delve into this more
- 8:28Speaker 1: as we go along here. But you know, Taysom missed
- 8:31Speaker 1: three games earlier in the season due to injury, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: your offense went in the tank. The injuries on the
- 8:40Speaker 1: interior of your offensive line and Taysom Hill starting with
- 8:43Speaker 1: you know, the second half of that game against Atlanta
- 8:46Speaker 1: just showed how much of an issue you had. And
- 8:50Speaker 1: now without McCoy, without Lucas Patrick Saldeverari gets hurt during
- 8:55Speaker 1: the game, you're right back where you were on the
- 8:57Speaker 1: interior of your line that Taysom gets hurt. So it
- 9:00Speaker 1: feels like all the progress that you felt like you
- 9:02Speaker 1: had made you just reverted to where you were. And
- 9:05Speaker 1: as for Taysom thirty four years old, contractually, I would
- 9:09Speaker 1: don't need to get into too many of the numbers now,
- 9:11Speaker 1: suffice to say it wouldn't make sense for the Saints
- 9:14Speaker 1: to move on from Taysom after this season. He's gonna
- 9:16Speaker 1: have a long road of recovery ahead of him. I
- 9:18Speaker 1: mean it's December now, so you guys come back from acls,
- 9:22Speaker 1: from knee injuries. But he's gonna have a long road
- 9:24Speaker 1: to road of recovery. To think he might be available
- 9:27Speaker 1: for the beginning of the season, and that would be
- 9:29Speaker 1: in his age thirty five season. How much more does
- 9:33Speaker 1: Tasoum have in the tank. We marvel at him and
- 9:34Speaker 1: what he's been able to do, but it is a
- 9:36Speaker 1: legitimate question right now what his future holds in New
- 9:39Speaker 1: Orleans and in the NFL period. You know, I expect
- 9:42Speaker 1: this team will continue fighting with five games to play,
- 9:45Speaker 1: but you know, my feeling has pretty much been that
- 9:50Speaker 1: you've only got that. I mean I said this even
- 9:53Speaker 1: before the Rams game, and yes, I've picked the Rams
- 9:54Speaker 1: to win, but I mean that's not like I'm backpatting.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I also picked the Browns to beat the Saint sounds
- 9:58Speaker 1: dead wrong. So I think there's two more wins. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: think you win this week in New York. I think
- 10:04Speaker 1: your offensive line it looks like they might get McCoy
- 10:07Speaker 1: and Patrick back this week, and the Giants are just atrocious. Like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I get it's a road game, but that's an atrocious
- 10:13Speaker 1: football team that's not trying to win, and you should
- 10:14Speaker 1: go win it. And I think you can beat the
- 10:16Speaker 1: Raiders on your home field, but that's probably it. I
- 10:19Speaker 1: think six wins is probably where this team tops out.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You're going to be looking somewhere around a top ten pick,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and the focus for the organization will be the future. Yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we'll watch the team over the final five games and
- 10:29Speaker 1: see how they play out the string, but I don't
- 10:33Speaker 1: know that I foresee any more than two wins the
- 10:35Speaker 1: rest of the way for New Orleans. Hard to imagine
- 10:37Speaker 1: that they beat Washington at home, or that they beat
- 10:40Speaker 1: Green Bay at Lambeau, or that they win at Tampa
- 10:42Speaker 1: when Tampa's likely going to be playing in Week eighteen
- 10:45Speaker 1: for the division. So Saints will steer their focus toward
- 10:51Speaker 1: the future. We'll continue to watch and follow and see
- 10:54Speaker 1: how some of these young guys may continue to develop
- 10:56Speaker 1: throughout the course of the season, some of the storylines
- 10:58Speaker 1: that may help lead the Saints into the off season.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But certainly a disappointing result for a game you felt
- 11:03Speaker 1: like they could have won. But that's a familiar refrain.
- 11:06Speaker 1: We said the same thing against Philly, we said the
- 11:07Speaker 1: same thing with the first game against Atlanta. It's just
- 11:10Speaker 1: how you end up a foreig and eight football team
- 11:13Speaker 1: right now. So we'll continue to watch and see what
- 11:17Speaker 1: the future may be, but it'll be a pivotal offseason
- 11:20Speaker 1: for New Orleans. It looks like, even if not formally informally,
- 11:23Speaker 1: that's already begun
