Transcript
- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one forty four of
- 0:18Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am My Coolard from Baseball Perspectus,
- 0:22Speaker 1: joined per usual by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer
- 0:25Speaker 1: from Raswall. How you doing tonight, Bud.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Doing just dandy. I was just thinking to myself, I
- 0:30Speaker 2: feel like half the time we started with these to
- 0:32Speaker 2: make a weather comment that I just realized we're old
- 0:33Speaker 2: Midwest guys now talking about the weather half the time.
- 0:36Speaker 2: So I'm not gonna do that. I'm just ready to
- 0:38Speaker 2: talk baseball. Let's get into it. There's a lot of
- 0:40Speaker 2: stuff going on. I'm all excited for a show.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That's so great because you still did talk about it.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But okay, yeah, that's why you can't bite me on
- 0:49Speaker 2: it anymore.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Okay, Well, to set the stage we were seting, we're
- 0:55Speaker 1: talking here on June sixteenth on a Tuesday. Usually record
- 0:59Speaker 1: on if you've kind of caught the cadence, but we've
- 1:02Speaker 1: flexed it to a Tuesday here, and that will just
- 1:06Speaker 1: kind of impact the news and everything, because last week
- 1:09Speaker 1: I think we did curse everything a little bit. It
- 1:12Speaker 1: did feel like there was a rash of injuries on
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Wednesday when we would have normally recorded, but that's
- 1:17Speaker 1: okay because we saved it for this week. Our main
- 1:20Speaker 1: segment this week, you'll probably have figured out from reading
- 1:23Speaker 1: the title is going to cover how to sell cards.
- 1:27Speaker 1: So I know we've kind of peppered this conversation in
- 1:30Speaker 1: over the years on tons and tons of topics, but
- 1:33Speaker 1: we've never addressed it directly in one podcast. So I
- 1:36Speaker 1: figured we'd give everybody a one good stop shop to
- 1:39Speaker 1: be able to visit this podcast and listen to our
- 1:43Speaker 1: thoughts on just guides to how to sell cards. Because
- 1:47Speaker 1: after you've ripped the cards, unless you are a true
- 1:51Speaker 1: sicko and want to keep absolutely everything you rip and
- 1:54Speaker 1: even including the hits, and just don't want to recoup
- 1:57Speaker 1: any of your money, you're probably looking for some avenue
- 1:59Speaker 1: to sell, and if you're new to it, it's a
- 2:02Speaker 1: tough thing to try to navigate off the bat. So
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'm calling it the Incomprehensive Guy to Sell Cards because
- 2:09Speaker 1: I think the best way to learn about how to
- 2:11Speaker 1: sell cards is just listening to us. Wee get and
- 2:13Speaker 1: week out in terms of our thoughts in the market.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But I think it will be a fun subject after
- 2:18Speaker 1: we get into these news and notes, So Brew you.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Ready, I'm ready, let's go.
- 2:23Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's just dive right into it because
- 2:25Speaker 1: handmates are back and as Trust put today on his
- 2:30Speaker 1: RCL post, handmates are back on the menu boys, just
- 2:33Speaker 1: like the Lorid the Rings quote. So first one we've got.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It's another first rounder going down where I think I
- 2:39Speaker 1: saw somebody post on Blue Sky. That's seven of the
- 2:43Speaker 1: twelve first rounders now hit the IL for something at
- 2:47Speaker 1: some point this season. So it's pretty precarious. And I
- 2:52Speaker 1: think this was one of the players that the team
- 2:55Speaker 1: with this guy was probably doing pretty well because the
- 2:59Speaker 1: guys that have lost Aaron Judge for stretches of time,
- 3:02Speaker 1: Elie de la Cruz and others, we've been feeling it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: We've been hurting. So now Jose Ramirez is down handmate
- 3:09Speaker 1: fracture in his left wrist where he actually had a
- 3:12Speaker 1: handmate fracture in his right wrist already, so I think Sandoval,
- 3:16Speaker 1: Pablo Sandoval had this as well, where he had both
- 3:18Speaker 1: handmates removed. So Jose Ramirez, this isn't that esteemed company.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm sure with some other ballplayers out there. He was
- 3:26Speaker 1: doing pretty well before going down with this injury. It
- 3:28Speaker 1: was certainly not like peak Jose Ramirez, but you know
- 3:32Speaker 1: he was playing in his age thirty three season here
- 3:36Speaker 1: and we'll be turning thirty four in September. So it
- 3:40Speaker 1: was ten homers, twenty four stolen bases over seventy two games,
- 3:43Speaker 1: a two thirty nine, three, thirty nine, four eighteen slash line.
- 3:46Speaker 1: The slash line is a little lacking, but all the
- 3:48Speaker 1: counting stats were there for you in terms of first
- 3:51Speaker 1: round value. The Guardians have put a five to seven
- 3:54Speaker 1: week window on this, which I'm upset about because who
- 3:57Speaker 1: puts odd numbers on injury timeline is obviously an even
- 4:02Speaker 1: number sort of thing. This is a six to eight
- 4:05Speaker 1: week injury. Everybody knows that. Get on board Cleveland, and
- 4:09Speaker 1: so that should keep Jose Ramirez out through the All
- 4:15Speaker 1: Star break and just a little bit after. And then
- 4:16Speaker 1: you also have the cascading injury where the or like
- 4:21Speaker 1: the output might be a little muted on the outside
- 4:25Speaker 1: on the other side because of just it's been shown
- 4:27Speaker 1: time and time again, and there's been studies on it
- 4:29Speaker 1: that say a handmade injury just takes longer to full
- 4:33Speaker 1: recover from in terms of strength and getting that power
- 4:37Speaker 1: back into the bat. So what are you doing here
- 4:39Speaker 1: with Jose Ramirez, And especially I mean in a in
- 4:43Speaker 1: a or like not only in a redraft league, you're
- 4:46Speaker 1: not dropping them. In a keeper dynasty league, You're getting
- 4:49Speaker 1: probably close to your thinking about selling them anyway. So
- 4:52Speaker 1: lots of value implications I think across the board for
- 4:55Speaker 1: fantasy leagues.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think Jose Ramirez is actually a
- 5:01Speaker 2: bargain right now. He has vastly underperformed his underlying metrics,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and if you actually look at like his Baseball savomb
- 5:08Speaker 2: page over the last two years, like this year looks
- 5:10Speaker 2: better than almost every year prior. He's got to expect
- 5:13Speaker 2: a batting average of two eighty, which is just in
- 5:15Speaker 2: line with his career two seventy eight batting average. He's
- 5:18Speaker 2: stole twenty four bases in twenty six attempts, which is
- 5:21Speaker 2: he's on pace for another forty seal season. And yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 2: the power was down a little bit, but he's you know,
- 5:27Speaker 2: he just needed one hot month and he would end
- 5:29Speaker 2: up being a twenty five home or bat like this
- 5:31Speaker 2: is still absolutely Jose Ramirez. Sure, hanmdmate Bone taken a
- 5:34Speaker 2: ninety percent of the expectation. The rest of the way
- 5:37Speaker 2: is probably what's to be done. But this guy is
- 5:40Speaker 2: a metronome of consistency. I mean, the last time he
- 5:43Speaker 2: missed like significant time was twenty nineteen. Before that, it
- 5:46Speaker 2: was twenty fifteen. And so like, I'm actually looking at
- 5:50Speaker 2: this relatively is a buying opportunity because I think everybody's
- 5:53Speaker 2: scared of handmate injuries. I think he's underperformed to the
- 5:57Speaker 2: point where even if I'm getting him at ninety percent
- 5:59Speaker 2: of who like Jose Ramirez is, I still have him
- 6:01Speaker 2: in my top five hitters the rest of the season,
- 6:04Speaker 2: because that's who he is. If people are treating it
- 6:07Speaker 2: like man, he's he wasn't playing well and he's gonna
- 6:09Speaker 2: get a ding from this. First of all, he's gonna
- 6:12Speaker 2: be back in five weeks apparently, And like, I think
- 6:17Speaker 2: people are going to just underestimate this, And so I'm
- 6:20Speaker 2: actually looking at this as someone to buy an opportunity
- 6:23Speaker 2: for one of the best hitters in the fantasy game
- 6:26Speaker 2: who's just not doesn't have the name value. I think
- 6:28Speaker 2: he's actually more accessible than a lot of others, like
- 6:31Speaker 2: even an Aaron Judge or something like that. So I'm
- 6:34Speaker 2: actually okay with it. You're absolutely not cutting him if
- 6:37Speaker 2: you if you do, please call me. I will pick
- 6:39Speaker 2: him up. But in a longer from perspective, you know this,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I mean, it was never good to happen, but this
- 6:46Speaker 2: is probably about the best time for this to happen
- 6:48Speaker 2: for the season because he does get an All Star
- 6:49Speaker 2: break to save some games and to get healthy. So
- 6:53Speaker 2: I expect them back. Expect some decreased performance, but it's
- 6:56Speaker 2: I mean later first round performance instead of top first
- 6:59Speaker 2: round performance. It's still Jose Roverroz.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I totally agree with you that. Obviously
- 7:05Speaker 1: twenty twenty six might be a little bit more difficult
- 7:07Speaker 1: to navigate, but I think going forward he's still a
- 7:10Speaker 1: decent veteran pickup because, like you said, all the underlying
- 7:14Speaker 1: metrics were in pretty good shape. The other factor here
- 7:16Speaker 1: is that line that I read off just a little
- 7:19Speaker 1: bit ago. It didn't include the hottest months in Cleveland.
- 7:22Speaker 1: July and June played pretty well in that stadium in Cleveland,
- 7:26Speaker 1: that he usually puts up better production in the summer months. Unfortunately,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you're gonna miss a little bit of that now for
- 7:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. But I think he would have gotten
- 7:35Speaker 1: back to his normal like one thirty ish of Orc
- 7:38Speaker 1: plus line by the end of the year. So I
- 7:41Speaker 1: think it was just a matter of that smoothing out
- 7:43Speaker 1: and getting rid of those April and March games where
- 7:46Speaker 1: it's just absolutely awful in Cleveland, and so it was happening.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I think, yeah, I'm right there with you. And
- 7:53Speaker 1: if you need any sort of support that like you're like,
- 7:57Speaker 1: I don't believe these two guys, just go to the
- 7:59Speaker 1: rasball player Eader and look at third base right now,
- 8:01Speaker 1: it is not getting any better into the future where
- 8:05Speaker 1: Miguel Vargas is the number one third baseman. Obviously, he
- 8:08Speaker 1: will be a big piece next year, but you're not
- 8:10Speaker 1: gonna blow a second round pick. I think I'm Miguel
- 8:13Speaker 1: Vargas or even first obviously, but Jose Ramirez will bring
- 8:18Speaker 1: the speed. He'll still be worth that first round pick.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Junior cam and Narrow I think has just been held
- 8:22Speaker 1: back by that park in Tampa. And so yeah, Jose
- 8:26Speaker 1: Ramirez is gonna be king the third base going into
- 8:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven once again.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Right, absolutely, absolutely, I don't think there's any question in
- 8:32Speaker 2: my mind that he is the guy to own that position.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Okay, well, we've got another handmate fracture and This is
- 8:39Speaker 1: for Vinnie Pascantino of the Kansas City Royals, who we've
- 8:43Speaker 1: touched on a little bit in terms of disappointing starts,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and this is guy who, unlike Ramirez, you cannot right
- 8:50Speaker 1: cut now where I think people were starting to anyway,
- 8:53Speaker 1: because it was dismal before this injury two twenty four
- 8:56Speaker 1: three h nine three P fifty slug on the slash line.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That's an eight WRC plus out of your first basement,
- 9:04Speaker 1: not only for your fantasy but for the Royals obviously
- 9:07Speaker 1: brutal sixty eight games for that only six homers. Things
- 9:12Speaker 1: were terrible that like he was already starting to get
- 9:14Speaker 1: dropped before this handmate fracture, partly because we covered it
- 9:18Speaker 1: when we were going through some duds and team killers
- 9:21Speaker 1: just the other week. That the bat speed is down
- 9:24Speaker 1: here for VINNP, which has really been strange, and maybe
- 9:27Speaker 1: he was nursing something else all along and it caused
- 9:30Speaker 1: also like a kinetic chain issue that then came out
- 9:34Speaker 1: on the handmate. You never know, but things were certainly
- 9:37Speaker 1: falling apart for the twenty eight year old. What are
- 9:39Speaker 1: you doing with VINP for next year? Because I think
- 9:41Speaker 1: this year it's a total wash like he was already terrible.
- 9:45Speaker 1: You had in this handmate, He's a total waiver wire
- 9:48Speaker 1: fodder that you've got to prove it to me and
- 9:49Speaker 1: play well before I'm going to pick you up. But
- 9:52Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven is going to be a different story.
- 9:54Speaker 1: The projections we're gonna like him again because they're going
- 9:56Speaker 1: to factor in the past couple of years and we've
- 9:59Speaker 1: just not seen the performance here for multiple months.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think we've seen yet a full season
- 10:06Speaker 2: of Vinny Pascuentino at his best, and I think that's
- 10:10Speaker 2: what's gonna keep people coming back. But I do think
- 10:12Speaker 2: we do have to downgrade him because it can This
- 10:15Speaker 2: is probably the third year now where it's like he
- 10:18Speaker 2: shows something, shows slash and just hasn't put it all together,
- 10:21Speaker 2: and you know he's he's gonna be going to this
- 10:24Speaker 2: twenty nine year old season next year without really having
- 10:27Speaker 2: I would argue, you know, the twenty five season was strong,
- 10:31Speaker 2: but like it still wasn't, you know, otherworldly, So that's
- 10:35Speaker 2: kind of what you were hoping for. I think he's
- 10:38Speaker 2: he's kind of your your back end corner infielder, like
- 10:42Speaker 2: it feels like a Nathaniel Low Lao situation here or
- 10:45Speaker 2: lower Law. I can't remember which one that one is.
- 10:47Speaker 2: That one low isn't it?
- 10:50Speaker 1: I don't even know anymore.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Well, I think it's Low. Yeah, yeah, Brandon Law the low.
- 10:56Speaker 2: We got this right. But I think he's backing up
- 11:00Speaker 2: into back end corner enfield material. And he's worth a
- 11:05Speaker 2: gamble because he has a thirty homer season under his belt.
- 11:08Speaker 2: He's a two sixty two seventy hitter at his best,
- 11:11Speaker 2: and that's absolutely valuable. But the inconsistency to do that
- 11:17Speaker 2: is really really hurting. I mean, I'll put my cards
- 11:20Speaker 2: on the table here for our league that you're in,
- 11:23Speaker 2: our odd new league that we play in, which is
- 11:24Speaker 2: a keeper style. I already cut him with the injury
- 11:28Speaker 2: because I'm just saying if somebody else grabs him, oh well,
- 11:31Speaker 2: I'm not out too much. It's back in corner corner
- 11:34Speaker 2: infielder if and those leagues don't use corner infielders, so
- 11:37Speaker 2: that's also another piece there. But if I can refinance
- 11:41Speaker 2: them get him back for half later, then maybe I'll
- 11:43Speaker 2: I'll consider hold him for next year and seeing if
- 11:45Speaker 2: he does something on the stretch. But he's definitely fallen
- 11:49Speaker 2: down my perspective ranks for twenty twenty seven.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yep, yep, I totally agree, and I think I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 1: we talked about for space being a little weak on
- 11:57Speaker 1: the back end, but mostly because like you just didn't
- 12:00Speaker 1: know where the growth was gonna come from. And I
- 12:03Speaker 1: think it's kind of shaken out that way this year,
- 12:06Speaker 1: where most people will probably find have found their CI
- 12:10Speaker 1: on the waiver wire between like Nathaniel Lowe or writing
- 12:14Speaker 1: Dom Smith when he's hot, or one of those Rockies
- 12:18Speaker 1: first basemen that, like, I think that's probably not a
- 12:21Speaker 1: bad strategy going forward if you can't get one of
- 12:24Speaker 1: the top elite ones, almost punt first base and see
- 12:27Speaker 1: what crops up on a second division team and just
- 12:29Speaker 1: write it from there. So yeah, I think Vinny p
- 12:33Speaker 1: will fall below that line where, yeah, if he somehow
- 12:37Speaker 1: ends up back at the draft fodder, then certainly I'll
- 12:40Speaker 1: be interested here and there. But I don't think he's
- 12:42Speaker 1: gonna be there in that type of respect, just because,
- 12:48Speaker 1: like I said, the projections are going to take in
- 12:51Speaker 1: the good twenty twenty five year and bake that in
- 12:54Speaker 1: and he's gonna look I think, better through those projections
- 12:57Speaker 1: than what he can produce. You Okay, let's get into
- 13:03Speaker 1: the next injury, which actually happened to Vinniep's podcast. He
- 13:06Speaker 1: has a podcast with Brent Rooker, and Brent Rooker also
- 13:09Speaker 1: went down the io. This is for a bone bruise
- 13:12Speaker 1: and his left knee. Another tough season here with a
- 13:16Speaker 1: WRC plus of just eighty one compared to Vinnp's eighty.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So maybe they need to stop podcasting together because it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: just not working out for them. But it was ten
- 13:25Speaker 1: homers for Brent Rooker in forty eight games, two hunderd
- 13:28Speaker 1: two eighty one, three eighty nine slash line as well
- 13:30Speaker 1: as there's an obleaque injury baked in there, which again
- 13:33Speaker 1: I was just talking about the kinetic chain with Vinnie P.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You have to wonder if that's playing a part here
- 13:39Speaker 1: for Brent Rooker. It doesn't apparently seem like it's a
- 13:43Speaker 1: significant deal. But bone bruces can be finicky. You know,
- 13:47Speaker 1: some dudes recovered pretty quickly and some dudes turn into
- 13:50Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker. So something to keep in mind here. I'm
- 13:53Speaker 1: a little bit more bullish, actually a lot more bullish
- 13:56Speaker 1: here on Rooker though, because the metrics have still been good.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I still giving him grace from that oblique injury. What say, ye,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Brent Rooker lover of the world.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you can't, you know, completely look at
- 14:09Speaker 2: this and go, oh, it's Brent Rooker the last three years.
- 14:11Speaker 2: But I do still say that there's more there to
- 14:15Speaker 2: this profile. There's a few things to play here. He
- 14:18Speaker 2: plays in a bandbox of a stadium. If you're if
- 14:22Speaker 2: you're truly in the Dynasty world. We got two years
- 14:25Speaker 2: until Vegas and he's gonna hit about seventy home runs
- 14:28Speaker 2: in his first season there, and he's really battled injuries
- 14:33Speaker 2: this year. That said, this is the kind of profile
- 14:36Speaker 2: that this happens to every so often. I actually wrote
- 14:40Speaker 2: about this recently with Hunter Goodman, and it's like the
- 14:43Speaker 2: exact same type of profile. Guy hits the ball incredibly hard,
- 14:46Speaker 2: he makes loud contact, swing, swings fast, all those things,
- 14:50Speaker 2: but the pitch selection it leaves a lot to be desired,
- 14:53Speaker 2: and when it just isn't quite there, to your point,
- 14:57Speaker 2: when he's off with the kinetic chain, it can quickly
- 15:00Speaker 2: you crumble on himself until you're fully kind of healthy
- 15:02Speaker 2: and you rework. You work through whatever mental block or
- 15:05Speaker 2: physical block you're working working on. So it is a
- 15:09Speaker 2: volatile profile, but I still think there's enough there that
- 15:13Speaker 2: even if he is just a twenty five homer bat
- 15:16Speaker 2: that's hitting two twenty, it's it's still valuable when in
- 15:21Speaker 2: today's game. But I think that there's more in the
- 15:24Speaker 2: tank for Brent Rooker long term. I just think this
- 15:27Speaker 2: season the injuries have just really really zapped the productivity.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, so yeah, I think what I'm hearing
- 15:35Speaker 1: is drop him if you absolutely need to, but if
- 15:38Speaker 1: you've got the open spot, probably we're stashing.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Compared to Vinnip absolutely absolutely.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Okay, let's go to LA for a next injury where
- 15:47Speaker 1: the catcher Will Smith hit the al with a neck injury. Here,
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's been a tough year before the injury for will Smith.
- 15:53Speaker 1: At two forty nine three thirty eight, three eighty two
- 15:56Speaker 1: slash line a one oh five WRC plus after putting
- 16:00Speaker 1: up a one to fifty three last year, has only
- 16:02Speaker 1: come with six homers in his fifty two games. And
- 16:05Speaker 1: the more I look at it, he is thirty one now,
- 16:10Speaker 1: he won't turn thirty two till next March, but he's
- 16:13Speaker 1: played two straight postseasons of fifteen plus games. That like
- 16:17Speaker 1: when you tack it onto the rest of the load
- 16:19Speaker 1: for the regular season. It's one of the higher loads
- 16:22Speaker 1: for a catcher, So some of them keep in mind
- 16:24Speaker 1: because the person that will be benefiting from this and
- 16:29Speaker 1: probably was already rostered in every two catcher league and
- 16:32Speaker 1: even some one catchers because he's been so good, was
- 16:35Speaker 1: Dalton Is Dalton Rushing, who to date is slashing two
- 16:39Speaker 1: sixty two, three fifty three, five h eight with eight
- 16:42Speaker 1: homers as a twenty five year old. So honestly, this
- 16:47Speaker 1: is also a spot where I think I would be
- 16:50Speaker 1: in on buying high on Dalton Rushing in a dynasty
- 16:54Speaker 1: keeper situation, because the this is two ships passing in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the night. In terms of I think overall playing time,
- 17:03Speaker 1: where will Smith. I think the Dodgers will probably make
- 17:07Speaker 1: sure that they keep them healthy. They can use them
- 17:10Speaker 1: in really crucial games, use them down the stretch in
- 17:12Speaker 1: September and into the postseason, especially just for his defense
- 17:17Speaker 1: and veteran presence and play calling, while they can ride
- 17:21Speaker 1: Rushing much harder in the regular season. That this might
- 17:26Speaker 1: be where we finally get the flip from Smith to
- 17:29Speaker 1: Rushing on the three four split on the number of
- 17:33Speaker 1: games and starts in a season, that. I think this
- 17:36Speaker 1: might be the delineation and you might even start seeing
- 17:38Speaker 1: something more like five Rushing starts to two Smith starts
- 17:41Speaker 1: next year. Obviously, Smith is making a lot of money,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but the Dodgers can eat it, and if they can
- 17:46Speaker 1: use them as their playoff catcher, I think they might
- 17:48Speaker 1: go that route. What say you, Yeah, I'm.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Very torn on this one because at surface level, this
- 17:54Speaker 2: feels like Sean Murphy Drake Baldwin over in Atlanta.
- 17:57Speaker 1: It does.
- 17:58Speaker 2: It's very much feels like that. The big difference, though,
- 18:02Speaker 2: under the covers, for Will Smith is he is still
- 18:04Speaker 2: an elite hitter. I don't know, if you've looked at
- 18:07Speaker 2: his Baseball Savant page, it is scary good. He still
- 18:13Speaker 2: is making contact. His one issue is the bad speed,
- 18:17Speaker 2: which is who he's always been. It's actually the best
- 18:19Speaker 2: bat speed he's had probably his career, but it's still
- 18:22Speaker 2: like twentieth percentile, so it's not right home about it.
- 18:25Speaker 2: But everything else is the top quarter of percentiles in
- 18:29Speaker 2: the majors. And he's had some bad luck from a
- 18:31Speaker 2: bat an average perspective, had some bad luck from a
- 18:33Speaker 2: power perspective, so those things are hold his stats back
- 18:38Speaker 2: a little, but he is still an all star catcher.
- 18:41Speaker 2: So I think that's where it's a little different here,
- 18:43Speaker 2: is that they still want both of these guys to play,
- 18:45Speaker 2: but yet they don't have a DH spot like the
- 18:47Speaker 2: Braves do because there's this guy that I think you've
- 18:49Speaker 2: heard of show Heyo Tani that tends to use that spot,
- 18:52Speaker 2: and so that's really going to put in the hamper
- 18:55Speaker 2: I think in both of their values going forward, because
- 18:58Speaker 2: I don't know that you can get to the five
- 18:59Speaker 2: and two. I think it's a three and four, four
- 19:01Speaker 2: and three situation, or the Dodgers got to move one
- 19:04Speaker 2: of these guys. And the Dodgers, for all their like
- 19:08Speaker 2: their smooth moves and things like that, they have not
- 19:12Speaker 2: done a great job of like selling high on guys
- 19:16Speaker 2: see Miguel Vargas and another of other guys that have
- 19:19Speaker 2: like kind of broken out after leasing the Dodgers. Dustin
- 19:22Speaker 2: May for US Cardinals truthers here, but I I think
- 19:27Speaker 2: they ideally it should move adult and rushing and make
- 19:31Speaker 2: a play at really finding a solid second basement or
- 19:35Speaker 2: something there, but it doesn't. I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 19:39Speaker 2: So I think both these guys for me long term
- 19:42Speaker 2: are actually slightly downgrade because I thinky're gonna eat into
- 19:44Speaker 2: each other's playing time.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's fair. It's also like
- 19:48Speaker 1: Catcher has been such a disaster that like it's gonna
- 19:51Speaker 1: be a situation where you might still get more than
- 19:54Speaker 1: enough juice out of both of them even with the
- 19:57Speaker 1: kind of degraded playing time. But yeah, I can see it.
- 20:01Speaker 1: But I think I'm still pretty bullish on Rushing going forward.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But something to keep a watch on, I think, especially
- 20:07Speaker 1: down the stretch when Smith gets back, is you know,
- 20:11Speaker 1: if the Dodgers have a big lead in the division,
- 20:14Speaker 1: how are they managing the playing time between the two,
- 20:17Speaker 1: because it might show their hand a little bit of
- 20:19Speaker 1: what their plan is going forward. Because you said they
- 20:23Speaker 1: need to trade one of them, they haven't, and I
- 20:25Speaker 1: don't think they will that Like.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I don't think they will, like I think they should,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I don't. Well, they're not trading Smith, let's be clear
- 20:30Speaker 2: on that contract. He's not anywhere.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But I don't think they want to trade Rushing because
- 20:35Speaker 1: they've had so many opportunities at this point and they've
- 20:39Speaker 1: traded all the other ones they didn't like between like
- 20:41Speaker 1: kber Ruiz or Diego Kartaya, like all these other dudes
- 20:45Speaker 1: have flamed out or just not been what they were
- 20:48Speaker 1: hyped up to be. They've gotten rid of, but they've
- 20:50Speaker 1: kept rushing, and I think that's pretty telling. Yeah, Okay,
- 20:55Speaker 1: next injury. Another guy who is on the injured list
- 20:59Speaker 1: much of this sea beforehand. Spencer Strider, pitcher from the
- 21:02Speaker 1: Atlanta Braves, went down left his latest outing with a
- 21:07Speaker 1: season low velocity on his fastball. They diagnosed it as
- 21:12Speaker 1: just shoulder soreness and elbow soreness at first. They did
- 21:16Speaker 1: an MRI and it looks like it is just elbow
- 21:18Speaker 1: inflammation here. But do remember he missed the beginning of
- 21:21Speaker 1: the season with an oblique injury, so like, this is
- 21:25Speaker 1: another situation where do you have to wonder what the
- 21:28Speaker 1: kinetic chain impact of that initial injury was. It was
- 21:34Speaker 1: a strange bag of production here for Spencer Strider, I
- 21:38Speaker 1: think is maybe the most graceful way to put it.
- 21:40Speaker 1: He did go four and two in eight starts, but
- 21:43Speaker 1: it was only thirty nine innings with a five thirty
- 21:46Speaker 1: one ER and a five thirty six FIP. But it
- 21:49Speaker 1: was an XCRA of three P forty one, which carves
- 21:53Speaker 1: out homer's, but also I don't know, sometimes if you
- 21:56Speaker 1: can carve out homers if the dude is just bad,
- 21:59Speaker 1: Like certainly the luck was not on his side, but
- 22:03Speaker 1: like he was leaving fast balls and all sorts of
- 22:06Speaker 1: other breaking balls right in the happy zones for penny
- 22:10Speaker 1: of players where it wasn't a mistake. So I think
- 22:12Speaker 1: I lean a little bit more towards the fifth of
- 22:14Speaker 1: five point three six actually being true compared to that XDRA.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And so it was also a muted strikeout rate compared
- 22:23Speaker 1: to prime Spencer Strider. It actually is maybe what Spencer
- 22:26Speaker 1: Strider is now, which is a twenty seven point nine
- 22:28Speaker 1: percent strikeout rate but a career high twelve point one
- 22:31Speaker 1: percent walk rate. So what are we doing with Spencer
- 22:36Speaker 1: Strider because this is a guy who the injuries are
- 22:38Speaker 1: really starting to pile up. The Tommy John surgery that
- 22:41Speaker 1: he went through in the big leagues was actually already
- 22:43Speaker 1: a second and well it wasn't a Tommy John, my bad.
- 22:46Speaker 1: It was a UCL revision or construction with the kind
- 22:50Speaker 1: of new brace that they put in. And the first
- 22:52Speaker 1: one I think was a full Tommy John. But that
- 22:54Speaker 1: was back in college where lots of dude just sometimes
- 22:59Speaker 1: don't come back after a second Timmy John, And honestly,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I think it's starting to look that way for Spencer
- 23:04Speaker 1: Strider unless he can develop some more pitches in the
- 23:09Speaker 1: arsenal where he can go the Nathanyvaldi route and use
- 23:13Speaker 1: the high span fastball but cut back and add something
- 23:17Speaker 1: like a splitter or something like a sinker. But he
- 23:21Speaker 1: hasn't shown a willingness to do that. So I'm not
- 23:23Speaker 1: sure I'm in on Strider until I see those levels
- 23:26Speaker 1: of changes. What about you?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think every every sign here points
- 23:32Speaker 2: run away. Until I see Spencer Strider throwing ninety seven
- 23:37Speaker 2: on average consistently, I'm not playing that game. And frankly,
- 23:41Speaker 2: you can you say until he tries like these? Actually
- 23:44Speaker 2: is because this was a guy and I had to
- 23:46Speaker 2: go back and find the numbers. But he was a
- 23:48Speaker 2: four seamer slider guy and that was it when he
- 23:52Speaker 2: had that velocity. And now he twenty five percent of
- 23:55Speaker 2: the time he's throwing curveball or change up. He's he's
- 23:58Speaker 2: trying to become a four pitch pitcher.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I just want them to be better.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yes, they need to be better, but I don't think
- 24:04Speaker 2: they are. I don't think that's not who he is.
- 24:06Speaker 2: He is a power pitcher that plays off of two
- 24:08Speaker 2: pitches with high velocity, and that's where the control comes.
- 24:11Speaker 2: When he has those two playing off each other. Until
- 24:14Speaker 2: he has the velocity back and he has that moxie,
- 24:17Speaker 2: it ain't happening. And that means, I guess what. Ground
- 24:20Speaker 2: balls are down, fly balls are up, home runs are up.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Like it's just it it does. It's not working, and
- 24:27Speaker 2: he's moving into that kind of replacement level starter, which
- 24:32Speaker 2: is a big fall from grace from where he was.
- 24:34Speaker 2: So from a fancy perspective, I hate to say it
- 24:37Speaker 2: because I love me some Spencer Strider when I ran
- 24:40Speaker 2: through him and some of my teams in twenty two
- 24:41Speaker 2: and twenty three. Thank you for trading to me in
- 24:43Speaker 2: one of our leagues, if you recall that trade is
- 24:48Speaker 2: a throw in. But I'm out. I'm out on Spencer
- 24:54Speaker 2: Trider at this point.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think I am too. Where I wrote
- 24:57Speaker 1: about this the other week at BP where some pitchers
- 25:01Speaker 1: like because and actually it does make sense. It was
- 25:04Speaker 1: Robbie Ray. Robbie raised the same guy where when it's
- 25:07Speaker 1: above ninety four, it works, when it's below ninety four,
- 25:10Speaker 1: it doesn't, and so I think Spencer Schreider's magic number
- 25:13Speaker 1: is ninety seven, which makes it kind of sad because
- 25:15Speaker 1: you also like when it's not above that level, you
- 25:18Speaker 1: just know that this guy's toast. But it also makes
- 25:21Speaker 1: it easy from an analysis perspective that until Spencer Schroder
- 25:24Speaker 1: gets that fastball up to ninety seven miles an hour
- 25:27Speaker 1: an hour on average, it's a no. It's so I'm
- 25:32Speaker 1: right there with you, Okay. Next one we have was
- 25:35Speaker 1: a little bit late coming in today, but Daniel Palencia,
- 25:38Speaker 1: the Cup's closer, went on the IL actually pitched last
- 25:42Speaker 1: day night, last night, Monday night against the Rockies and
- 25:45Speaker 1: was fine, there's no issues, but woke up today and
- 25:48Speaker 1: apparently had a bum elbow as well. This one, I
- 25:53Speaker 1: don't think we have any MRIs results yet, so we're
- 25:56Speaker 1: kind of still in a dangerous zone. I would say,
- 25:59Speaker 1: compare to Spencer Strider, we've had the MRI, we know
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's not another UCL injury, and with Palencia we could
- 26:06Speaker 1: still go down that route. So something to throw out there.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I think this is a guy who I mean, he's
- 26:11Speaker 1: dealt with shoulder injuries, he's dealt with leg injuries that
- 26:17Speaker 1: This is kind of who he is whenever you watch
- 26:18Speaker 1: him pitch it. Actually, I'm surprised Ryan Husley hasn't totally
- 26:22Speaker 1: gone down this route too, where like it's just such
- 26:24Speaker 1: a high effort delivery from Palencia. It is nasty stuff,
- 26:28Speaker 1: but it's never gonna sustain over an entire season. It's
- 26:32Speaker 1: amazing that they even gone fifty four games of him
- 26:34Speaker 1: last year. The question here is what do you do
- 26:38Speaker 1: with this cub's bullpen. We've been here a couple of times.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Our favorite probably previously was Ben Brown, but now he's
- 26:45Speaker 1: an elite starter that's gonna be on site young ballots.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But the rest that bullpen is a hot mess, and
- 26:52Speaker 1: it's has been all season and it will stay that
- 26:55Speaker 1: way because there's nobody coming. You've got Hunter Harvey's been
- 26:59Speaker 1: out for a while, Hodge went down on us, Riley
- 27:03Speaker 1: Martin was in there for a little bit in the mix.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So you're looking at like a Jacob Webb, Caleb Thielbar
- 27:08Speaker 1: who almost blew the game last night against the Rockies.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Give him up a huge col Carrictator, Philled Mayton, Hoby
- 27:15Speaker 1: Milner or somebody else. What are you doing because this
- 27:20Speaker 1: team it's struggling and it's not very good, but there's
- 27:23Speaker 1: still winning enough games that the saves are gonna matter
- 27:27Speaker 1: for fantasy.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, there's not. This is definitely not one of those
- 27:30Speaker 2: bullpens where they're it's like a clear second guy. I
- 27:36Speaker 2: feel like going into the season, it was philm Ayton.
- 27:39Speaker 2: He definitely looked like the guy that if Palencia wasn't there,
- 27:42Speaker 2: it was gonna be him. But he's been brutal this year,
- 27:46Speaker 2: and so it's definitely not Mayton. If I have to
- 27:48Speaker 2: pick a guy, it's gonna be Jacob Webb. It feels
- 27:51Speaker 2: like the guy that I don't else to say. It
- 27:53Speaker 2: just feels like the wheels are less likely to fall off,
- 27:55Speaker 2: and he's kind of kept his head on the whole way,
- 27:57Speaker 2: so the walks haven't got too much of an issue.
- 28:00Speaker 2: He's kept the velocity reasonable, He's struck out enough guys
- 28:03Speaker 2: like he just he feels like the safest bet to
- 28:06Speaker 2: not blow up at this point rather than a guy
- 28:09Speaker 2: that's like, yeah, he's gonna step in and really makes
- 28:11Speaker 2: some noise, so i'd be I would be picking up web.
- 28:15Speaker 2: To your point, we don't know what's going on Poalencia,
- 28:17Speaker 2: but he's not been the model of health. So you
- 28:20Speaker 2: know this, I would not be shocked if if we're
- 28:23Speaker 2: out without Polncia for a month or more, just based
- 28:26Speaker 2: on the very little news of elbow sore and that's
- 28:32Speaker 2: you know, code for seventeen different things, and we won't know.
- 28:36Speaker 2: But I think if you're playing the game right now,
- 28:38Speaker 2: you have to pick up Jacob Web and hope for
- 28:40Speaker 2: the best.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I'm there too, And I think especially
- 28:42Speaker 1: that performance against the Rockies probably really ruled out any
- 28:46Speaker 1: Caleb theilbar that he might pick up one or two
- 28:48Speaker 1: when it's like a all lefty matchup or something, but
- 28:51Speaker 1: it's probably Web and we'll see because yeah, this, like
- 28:55Speaker 1: I said, this Cubs team is really starting to teeter,
- 28:57Speaker 1: and the pitching depth was not there to begin this, see,
- 29:00Speaker 1: and they've gone through a lot of injuries where I
- 29:04Speaker 1: don't know if they actually have a willingness to bring
- 29:07Speaker 1: in a lot of money on trades and deals, so
- 29:10Speaker 1: they might just like fall out of the playoff race
- 29:12Speaker 1: because they're just too lazy to do anything, which I
- 29:15Speaker 1: can relate to. Yeah, okay, next injury. It's some sad
- 29:21Speaker 1: news here where Colorado Rocki's phenom Chase Dollander is actually
- 29:27Speaker 1: I think he already underwent the surgery on his UCL,
- 29:30Speaker 1: so that has happened and that will keep him out.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I mean probably all the way through most of twenty
- 29:36Speaker 1: twenty seven, we'll probably see him rehabbing. But before he
- 29:39Speaker 1: went down, I mean, it was everything that you would
- 29:42Speaker 1: wanted to see of Chase Dollander before he went down
- 29:45Speaker 1: with this elbow issue, and you just kind of knew
- 29:47Speaker 1: it was gonna end up being this. He proved to
- 29:50Speaker 1: be a Colorado Rockies player you could actually roster a
- 29:53Speaker 1: picture that you could actually roster. I would have. I
- 29:56Speaker 1: think I did start one of his home starts, like
- 29:59Speaker 1: in April, early April, but like certainly he was worth
- 30:03Speaker 1: rostering to get his away starts because they were fantastic
- 30:06Speaker 1: when he was on the mound as a three forty
- 30:08Speaker 1: nine ARA over twenty eight and a third innings with
- 30:12Speaker 1: a K minus well, the K minus BP wasn't great
- 30:15Speaker 1: because the BB was high, but lots of strikeouts across
- 30:18Speaker 1: the board where you were looking at hovering just above
- 30:23Speaker 1: or just below ten per nine at nine point six.
- 30:27Speaker 1: On top of it, this isn't the Spencer starter issue
- 30:30Speaker 1: where you only have fastball slider. It was a great
- 30:33Speaker 1: five pitch mix. Everything was plus on Stuff Plus, and
- 30:37Speaker 1: it's all rated well on Stuff Pro from Baseball perspectus
- 30:40Speaker 1: as well. So he was one of my kind of
- 30:42Speaker 1: favorite pitchers from early in the in the beginning of
- 30:44Speaker 1: the year, somebody. I think traditionally we would have said
- 30:49Speaker 1: no on any sort of keeper dynasty value. But I
- 30:54Speaker 1: think we finally have crossed the threshold where we've got
- 30:57Speaker 1: a Rockies pitcher where I'm saying yes. And the new
- 31:00Speaker 1: front office is doing some things. I don't know if
- 31:02Speaker 1: they're doing much. They might just be doing some basics
- 31:04Speaker 1: in terms of like pitch development and stuff like that.
- 31:07Speaker 1: But the minor leagues have been looking better for the
- 31:09Speaker 1: Rockies that I have faith that they will get the
- 31:12Speaker 1: maybe not the most out of Chase Dolander, but certainly
- 31:15Speaker 1: more than the old regime. What are you doing with
- 31:17Speaker 1: Dolander going forward?
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this is this is a tough one
- 31:20Speaker 2: for me because you know you're not gonna see him
- 31:23Speaker 2: till twenty twenty eight, and at that point he's in
- 31:27Speaker 2: his age twenty six season. He's actually a lot older
- 31:30Speaker 2: than you realize. When you hit that that point you
- 31:33Speaker 2: just rely on him to throw ninety nine. I'm a
- 31:37Speaker 2: little worried that this is gonna be the Sin Spinster
- 31:39Speaker 2: Strider two point zero type of type of scenario, just
- 31:42Speaker 2: the way that we were talking about that. I'm not
- 31:45Speaker 2: like ruling him out or anything. He's still young enough
- 31:48Speaker 2: that he can bounce back from from something like this,
- 31:51Speaker 2: but I would feel a heck of a lot better
- 31:54Speaker 2: if you listening in Colorado trying to do it. And
- 31:57Speaker 2: so it's like there's a few there's a few warning
- 31:59Speaker 2: signs on the one that I'm I'm really not paying
- 32:03Speaker 2: a lot of attention trying to trying to hold on to.
- 32:06Speaker 2: If he comes back and he's healthy and things look great,
- 32:09Speaker 2: I'll evaluate them. But I'm okay if I'm wrong on
- 32:15Speaker 2: this one.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think it's more of also
- 32:18Speaker 1: something to keep in mind late in twenty twenty seven,
- 32:21Speaker 1: maybe even before he starts getting the rehab games that
- 32:23Speaker 1: like worth. I think taking a flyer on going out
- 32:27Speaker 1: and picking up because that's exactly like the type of
- 32:31Speaker 1: picture where it does make sense from an injury return
- 32:34Speaker 1: to pursue them where they if they have the chance
- 32:36Speaker 1: to get unamund at the end of the season, and
- 32:38Speaker 1: just get in that starter or two to show that
- 32:41Speaker 1: they're healthy and then work all off season to get
- 32:44Speaker 1: the control better. I think that has led to good
- 32:48Speaker 1: success in the past and trying I mean like de
- 32:50Speaker 1: Gram did that, and you can just you see it
- 32:54Speaker 1: more often when that pattern happens, you can feel better
- 32:58Speaker 1: about it going to the spring as opposed to like
- 33:00Speaker 1: Joe Musgrove situation for this year. You know, yep, Okay,
- 33:04Speaker 1: last injury we have is Trent Grisham going down with
- 33:07Speaker 1: the right hamstring strain. Probably just like on the edge
- 33:10Speaker 1: of the injuries we're going to talk about, just because
- 33:14Speaker 1: I mean, it's been sneakily productive from Trent Grisham with
- 33:17Speaker 1: a two thirty two three forty one four h six
- 33:20Speaker 1: slash line with eight homers and six stolen bases. Was
- 33:24Speaker 1: probably going to be a bit of a stretch to
- 33:26Speaker 1: get to his mid thirties homers again. But I mean,
- 33:28Speaker 1: you never know with Yankee Stadium, and this is another
- 33:31Speaker 1: guy where the metrics under the hood, we're looking pretty
- 33:35Speaker 1: solid still where compared to where he was last year.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Not a substantial drop off that would necessitate you really
- 33:43Speaker 1: needing to be terribly worried about Trent Grisham in his stead.
- 33:47Speaker 1: We have Jason Dominguez coming back from the IL. He
- 33:51Speaker 1: was on the IL originally with a sprain in his
- 33:55Speaker 1: left shoulder for running into that wall on the catch,
- 33:58Speaker 1: if you recall, if you're also like I have noticed
- 34:01Speaker 1: that he was out on Tuesday for injury quote unquote,
- 34:04Speaker 1: it was a teeth injury. I think he just like
- 34:06Speaker 1: probably had a feeling put in or something where like
- 34:10Speaker 1: that's all it is. So I think he should be
- 34:11Speaker 1: back pretty soon. But you've got two solid outfielders here,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and Grisham is probably on the line of, like I mean,
- 34:19Speaker 1: we've been going through injuries after injuries after injuries where
- 34:22Speaker 1: he's on the line for cutting, but maybe make the
- 34:26Speaker 1: case for Grisham to keep him around or to cut
- 34:28Speaker 1: if you're on the cut bandwagon for Grisham, And thoughts
- 34:31Speaker 1: on what Jason Dominguez could provide you in the Yankees outfield.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yeah, So I've got a team where I've actually have
- 34:37Speaker 2: Grisham and I think I have like eight or nine
- 34:39Speaker 2: guys on the IL, and I'm trying my best to
- 34:42Speaker 2: hold on to him because as much as the overall
- 34:45Speaker 2: like bad and everage has been great, like he's been
- 34:48Speaker 2: just valuable enough in every category to be a good
- 34:52Speaker 2: starting outfielder, enough power with aid homers, he's picked in
- 34:56Speaker 2: a few steals. The rum production has actually been really
- 34:59Speaker 2: really good. Forty runs thirty five RBIs, so that that's
- 35:02Speaker 2: been strong. He's been a key piece of that lineup.
- 35:05Speaker 2: So this is this isn't an oblique This isn't this
- 35:09Speaker 2: is not an injury that's really gonna change his profile
- 35:12Speaker 2: when he comes back. So I'm trying to hold on
- 35:15Speaker 2: to Grisham. I don't blame you for cutting him, because
- 35:18Speaker 2: you know it's not an amazing profile. But he's been
- 35:22Speaker 2: so patient the plate. He's looked so comfortable that I'm
- 35:26Speaker 2: not gonna be shocked if he pulls off like an
- 35:28Speaker 2: eight or nine homer a month and really makes it dangerous.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So I'm holding him if you can. I'm not gonna
- 35:35Speaker 2: blame if you cut him, but I don't think that's
- 35:36Speaker 2: wise if you can avoid it. Dominga's on the other hand,
- 35:41Speaker 2: I'm really struggling with what to make of this guy.
- 35:44Speaker 2: He just feels like he's got all the tools in
- 35:48Speaker 2: the world and he cannot stay healthy, and he's not
- 35:51Speaker 2: quite sure what to do with those tools. So I'm
- 35:55Speaker 2: willing to gamble, like, I think this is kind of
- 35:57Speaker 2: guy that could all of a sudden just go crazy,
- 35:59Speaker 2: and you're gonna be like, why did I never take
- 36:00Speaker 2: any chance on him? So I think almost anytime Dimingaz
- 36:04Speaker 2: is with the Yankees and healthy, you want to roster
- 36:07Speaker 2: him because it very much could be the last opportunity
- 36:11Speaker 2: to do it if he puts everything together. You know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: just look at what he was doing the miners this year,
- 36:16Speaker 2: hitting three eighteen. He stole ten bases at five homers
- 36:19Speaker 2: in just twenty nine games he did. He had a
- 36:23Speaker 2: similar stretch last year in the miners. Then he you know,
- 36:26Speaker 2: actually started twenty four in the miners and then he
- 36:30Speaker 2: kind of struggled at the major league level but was
- 36:33Speaker 2: valuable enough, kind of like Grisham. So I think that
- 36:37Speaker 2: he's the guy that you have to pick up now,
- 36:40Speaker 2: especially if you had Grisham and ride it and if
- 36:42Speaker 2: he gets hot, great, if he's not, you cut him.
- 36:45Speaker 2: So that's kind of where I'm at. I'm still playing
- 36:47Speaker 2: the optimistic game with Dominguez.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I think at this point too,
- 36:53Speaker 1: he does get a pretty solid month of playing time.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I mean, so Spencer Jones. So it's kind of like
- 36:58Speaker 1: both these guys get some time to see if they
- 37:01Speaker 1: can stick around in the big leagues. And then Stanton
- 37:04Speaker 1: had a setback this week too, so that line of
- 37:07Speaker 1: spot will stay open. Although Paul Goldschmidz kind of claimed it.
- 37:10Speaker 1: He's been he's been a fire, he's been out of
- 37:13Speaker 1: his mind on fire, and so d H is probably
- 37:17Speaker 1: Paul Goldschmidz until honestly, until Stanton proves that he can
- 37:22Speaker 1: play at all and actually like stay on the field.
- 37:26Speaker 1: So there are there is maybe an outfield spot that's
- 37:29Speaker 1: open there to see if Dominga's can claim it or
- 37:33Speaker 1: if he has to concede it to Jones. Okay, a
- 37:35Speaker 1: couple of call ups we've got, so the first one
- 37:38Speaker 1: it had beened just after we recorded last week, Brady
- 37:42Speaker 1: Montgomery because it feels like old hat at this point
- 37:45Speaker 1: in terms of this news. Was promoted in Chicago. Outfielder
- 37:50Speaker 1: came from Texas A and M and was dealt over
- 37:54Speaker 1: in the Garrett Crochet deal from the Red Sox. Was
- 37:56Speaker 1: drafted in the first round after a significant ankle injury.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Probably would have been a top five pick in that draft.
- 38:02Speaker 1: In twenty twenty four. If it hadn't been for that injury,
- 38:05Speaker 1: he was solid in college and all he's done in
- 38:08Speaker 1: the minor league system for the White Sox has been hit.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It's almost like metronomic where it's like a one fifty
- 38:16Speaker 1: ish WRC plus twenty five percent strikeout rate, fifteen percent
- 38:20Speaker 1: walk rate at every level since twenty twenty five at
- 38:23Speaker 1: the White Sox, and then in this first game with
- 38:27Speaker 1: the Socks hit the walkoff. Tater is going to be
- 38:31Speaker 1: their right fielder. Probably the rest of the season. Right
- 38:33Speaker 1: field has been a real sore spot for the White Sox,
- 38:36Speaker 1: and really this past week, Montgomer has hit fifth pretty
- 38:39Speaker 1: much every game except for that debut game when he
- 38:43Speaker 1: hit sixth, so should be right in the middle of
- 38:45Speaker 1: this lineup and right behind Murakami when he returns. So far,
- 38:50Speaker 1: it's been a ninety three WRC plus two twenty seven
- 38:53Speaker 1: two sixty one four fifty five in twenty three plate appearances.
- 38:58Speaker 1: The strikeout rates right where we expected to be. It's
- 39:01Speaker 1: twenty six point one percent as we speak mid game.
- 39:05Speaker 1: The walk rate hasn't come back yet like to where
- 39:07Speaker 1: you would you you would expect, I think given the
- 39:10Speaker 1: history of the miners, but I think it will go up.
- 39:13Speaker 1: People are really peppering the zone against him. You could
- 39:16Speaker 1: see it in his zone contact rate is up significantly
- 39:19Speaker 1: in the majors compared to what it was in the miners,
- 39:23Speaker 1: So that just tells you people are in the zone
- 39:25Speaker 1: against Braden Montgomery. What do you think about him going forward, because,
- 39:28Speaker 1: like I said, this guy, unlike Dominguez, is certainly guaranteed
- 39:32Speaker 1: pretty much full playing time and right field for a
- 39:35Speaker 1: solid White Sox team in the middle of the lineup,
- 39:36Speaker 1: So great opportunity.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think great opportunity for him. I think really
- 39:42Speaker 2: really decent hitter, definitely maybe more aggressive hitter and so.
- 39:48Speaker 2: And I don't think the speed is really going to
- 39:50Speaker 2: play too much in the Major So I think this
- 39:52Speaker 2: is more of a I don't want to call it
- 39:56Speaker 2: a two thirty to forty bat ever, is maybe like
- 39:58Speaker 2: a two fifty two sixty batting average. I don't think
- 40:01Speaker 2: it's gonna pull off the three hundred that he was
- 40:03Speaker 2: tuning in the miners this year now, But I think
- 40:06Speaker 2: as a twenty five home or bat like Colton Kowser type,
- 40:10Speaker 2: or maybe your favorite guy like a Joe Adele with
- 40:14Speaker 2: a little bit less volatility. I think he's definitely in
- 40:19Speaker 2: that kind of aggressive power profile with a very athletic build.
- 40:24Speaker 2: So I think there's a really high ceiling here. But
- 40:27Speaker 2: but there's gonna be a lot of hot streaks and
- 40:29Speaker 2: gold streaks that come along with it. So I would
- 40:32Speaker 2: buy him. I'd throw him on a roster see what happens,
- 40:34Speaker 2: because if he does figure things out, it's it's gonna
- 40:37Speaker 2: look really, really nice. But even if he doesn't, he's
- 40:39Speaker 2: gonna give you some really good power and in a
- 40:43Speaker 2: lineup that I think still continues to surprise me, he's
- 40:45Speaker 2: gonna get some decent runs in production.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I totally agree. So certainly a little
- 40:51Speaker 1: bit of help there for people who are looking for
- 40:53Speaker 1: outfielders because things have gotten pretty shallow out on those
- 40:57Speaker 1: waiver wires. Next call up we have is in Milwaukee.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Cooper Pratt should be up and playing every day at shortstop.
- 41:04Speaker 1: He did sign that massive extension at the beginning of
- 41:06Speaker 1: the year of eight years, five hundred or whoa, that'd
- 41:10Speaker 1: be a lot money. Fifty million dollars, just a shade
- 41:13Speaker 1: over fifty million dollars with a bunch of options and
- 41:16Speaker 1: everything on there. So in tripa A. It wasn't necessarily
- 41:19Speaker 1: the best line two forty one, three forty nine, three
- 41:22Speaker 1: eighty six. That's a one hundred WRC plus with six
- 41:26Speaker 1: homers and seventeen stolen bases. But I think that's probably
- 41:32Speaker 1: relatively in line with what you would expect here for
- 41:34Speaker 1: Pratt certainly a better glove, better real life baseball player,
- 41:39Speaker 1: I think than fantasy. But is going to be in
- 41:41Speaker 1: the middle of another pretty good lineup. Well, not in
- 41:43Speaker 1: the middle, maybe towards the end taking over for Joey
- 41:46Speaker 1: RTIs and Milwaukee. But it's a solid lineup. He should run.
- 41:50Speaker 1: He should maybe pick up third base eligibility as well
- 41:53Speaker 1: if he if he plays there at all, or spells
- 41:56Speaker 1: people kind of late in games. So I think it's
- 41:59Speaker 1: an intriguing play, but maybe not quite a shallow of leagues.
- 42:03Speaker 1: AD's Bradon Montgomery for me. But what do you what
- 42:07Speaker 1: do you say here about Cooper Pratt?
- 42:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's it's the kind of the inverse
- 42:11Speaker 2: of Montgomery to a degree, like I feel much more speed,
- 42:15Speaker 2: little less uh power. I feel a little bit higher floor,
- 42:20Speaker 2: lower ceiling type type of guy. If I'm gonna do
- 42:24Speaker 2: an absolutely terrible comp I'm thinking like Trevor story from
- 42:28Speaker 2: last year, but stayed healthy type of type of thing. Yes,
- 42:34Speaker 2: but like that's kind of what it feels like. The
- 42:36Speaker 2: guy that could probably hit you know, to forty swipe
- 42:40Speaker 2: thirty bags, hit fifteen homers type of thing. And that's
- 42:44Speaker 2: why I like it. I think there's value here, but
- 42:48Speaker 2: I think it's gonna he's still young. I'm not quite
- 42:51Speaker 2: sure he's gonna take the world by storm. We didn't
- 42:54Speaker 2: even talk about it here, but like it feels like
- 42:56Speaker 2: the kind of the Ryan Waldschmidt come up, see what happens,
- 42:59Speaker 2: but you might be a little over match, might take
- 43:00Speaker 2: another trip back down. So I'm I'd gamble on him.
- 43:04Speaker 2: If you've got a spot, especially if you need speed,
- 43:07Speaker 2: then it's it's a worthy pickup. But I don't think
- 43:10Speaker 2: it's like a you have to make it happen type
- 43:12Speaker 2: of thing.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean all he has to do though, is
- 43:14Speaker 1: out hit Joey RTIs who was hitting two oh seven
- 43:18Speaker 1: two six.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I feel like we've said that before with Joey Ortiz, though,
- 43:20Speaker 2: like it it feels like the Joey Orties curse here.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean that is why, like Pratt will
- 43:27Speaker 1: probably get some third base because Orties is a pretty
- 43:30Speaker 1: great defender at shortstop, and so there will be late
- 43:33Speaker 1: situations where Ortiz comes and play shirt shortstop and Pratt
- 43:38Speaker 1: we'll flip over to third. But I think his longest
- 43:40Speaker 1: he keeps it above Joey Artis's sixty five WRC plus
- 43:44Speaker 1: UH shortstop is Cooper Pratt's. That's why they gave him
- 43:47Speaker 1: the extension. And honestly, if that is the case where
- 43:50Speaker 1: he's like that, terrible might hurt from fantasy. You know,
- 43:52Speaker 1: if he's only like hitting two hundred and stealing a
- 43:55Speaker 1: base a week and not really racking up anything else,
- 43:58Speaker 1: he's probably not worth it. But yeah, probably, I mean,
- 44:01Speaker 1: fifteen teamers, I'm taking a shot anything shallow where it's
- 44:04Speaker 1: probably more of a wait and see for me, just
- 44:06Speaker 1: to see, I mean, how it plays. Because it's also
- 44:10Speaker 1: strange seeing a dude as tall as Cooper Pratt that
- 44:12Speaker 1: just doesn't have the juice. You have to think it's
- 44:14Speaker 1: coming eventually, and you wonder if the big league coaching
- 44:17Speaker 1: staff can get that out of his bat there.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I almost made a Dancey Swansein comp but I'm
- 44:23Speaker 2: not sure which version I was gonna use. Current Dansby
- 44:26Speaker 2: sponsor or like two years ago Dansby Swanson. So another
- 44:30Speaker 2: other comp there that's completely useless.
- 44:33Speaker 1: All right, well, yeah, we can keep We'll keep generating
- 44:35Speaker 1: those as we keep going more useless Cooper prap of
- 44:40Speaker 1: comps there Throughout the rest of the pod. One last
- 44:43Speaker 1: call up Blaize Jordan in Saint Louis coming up for
- 44:46Speaker 1: Nolan Gorman, where I mean, I'm honestly confounded by this blaze.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Jordan has done nothing but just rip the cover off
- 44:55Speaker 1: the ball in twenty twenty six, and I think that
- 44:57Speaker 1: follows the pattern for what we've seen and with a
- 45:00Speaker 1: lot of other players in this Cardinals lineup. Nolan Gorman
- 45:04Speaker 1: withheld but in tripaab for the promotion eleven homers in
- 45:09Speaker 1: fifty seven games A three, thirteen, three, seventy three, five,
- 45:12Speaker 1: forty eight, slash line one thirty seven WRC plus there
- 45:16Speaker 1: it does feel like he's been around forever, But he
- 45:19Speaker 1: was a young high school draftee back in twenty twenty one,
- 45:22Speaker 1: so he's coming up as only a twenty three year
- 45:23Speaker 1: old here. Doesn't turn twenty four until December, so certainly,
- 45:29Speaker 1: in dynasty keeper situations, a very very viable option. He's
- 45:34Speaker 1: looked pretty solid at the plate in the first series
- 45:38Speaker 1: with the Twins. This past weekend when I was watching,
- 45:41Speaker 1: he was not intimidated. He had his first homer. He
- 45:44Speaker 1: is a beef boy. He does not have a very
- 45:47Speaker 1: athletic body where you're just I'm surprised that it works
- 45:50Speaker 1: and can play at third base, but it certainly does.
- 45:53Speaker 1: And so what are you doing here with Blaze Jordan?
- 45:55Speaker 1: Because this is somebody where people would start giving up
- 45:59Speaker 1: on him in dynastein leagues because he just was not
- 46:01Speaker 1: flashing the in game power and in game production that
- 46:06Speaker 1: we were expecting from him as a third round pick
- 46:08Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty and being like one of the
- 46:11Speaker 1: hot cards to collect. He's been totally different and much
- 46:15Speaker 1: steadier with the Cardinals. So as you can tell, I
- 46:19Speaker 1: like him, But what are you thinking?
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I like him. I still think he
- 46:23Speaker 2: has a relatively low ceiling. He still hits way too
- 46:29Speaker 2: many ground balls, not enough fly balls for the body
- 46:33Speaker 2: type he is that You're you're hoping for a big,
- 46:35Speaker 2: power production guy, and I don't think that's what he is. Again,
- 46:41Speaker 2: I'm really terrible calms today, but I feel like Alec
- 46:44Speaker 2: Burlison light is kind of what I've got here because
- 46:48Speaker 2: it's a guy that he's hit. He's definitely hit. He's
- 46:52Speaker 2: doesn't feel like the athletic body, doesn't feel like the
- 46:54Speaker 2: guy that should be there. But just it continues to work,
- 46:57Speaker 2: and that's what I feel like Jordan has the potential
- 46:59Speaker 2: to to be. I just don't think there's as much
- 47:02Speaker 2: power is what Burleson has there, and I do think
- 47:05Speaker 2: from a fielding perspective, Jordan's definitely a step step below
- 47:11Speaker 2: what Burley's been able to do. So I'm I think
- 47:14Speaker 2: it's I struggle with it because I don't think it's
- 47:17Speaker 2: like a run out and grab him. But if it truly,
- 47:20Speaker 2: if I'm truly right that it is kind of like
- 47:21Speaker 2: that burl Lisen, that's the same thing that happened. You
- 47:23Speaker 2: didn't run out and grab him, but he continued to produce, produce, produce,
- 47:26Speaker 2: and all of a sudden he looked up and go,
- 47:27Speaker 2: I really wish I owned this guy. So I'm I'm watching.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I'm not jumping by any means here, but it's it's
- 47:37Speaker 2: if it can if he continues to produce, you've got
- 47:39Speaker 2: to give it a second look.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I get a bear account for you,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and it even goes down to the stonehands in the field, Curtis.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Mead, So yep, I can see that. Yeah.
- 47:49Speaker 1: So if you're in a league where I mean Curs
- 47:51Speaker 1: Mead's been getting scooped up and you know you're tired
- 47:53Speaker 1: of Alec bohum, I think you can make that move
- 47:56Speaker 1: for Blaize Jordan. I mean, that's even gonna include some
- 47:58Speaker 1: twelve vers, which it feels nuts, but I think it
- 48:03Speaker 1: can play, especially the way that the Cardinals offense has
- 48:06Speaker 1: been moving in the way that the productions looked that Honestly,
- 48:09Speaker 1: Curtis Mead probably got scooped up recently in your twelve
- 48:11Speaker 1: teamer Blaze Jordan could do the Curtis Mead all over again. Okay,
- 48:16Speaker 1: Well with that, that's going to wrap up our fantasy
- 48:19Speaker 1: and real baseball. Well fantasy baseball isn't real, it's real
- 48:23Speaker 1: to me, but that's going to wrap up the music
- 48:25Speaker 1: noteation there. We've got a few clean up items from
- 48:28Speaker 1: last week's pod on Top Series two and a few
- 48:33Speaker 1: calendar updates. So first, if you go back to last
- 48:37Speaker 1: week's pod and listen to our Series two overview, we
- 48:40Speaker 1: were recording it a couple of days before the release day,
- 48:43Speaker 1: and typically we record on release day, so we had
- 48:46Speaker 1: a few blind spots in terms of what the checklist
- 48:48Speaker 1: finally was, what the cards looked like, what some of
- 48:51Speaker 1: the odds were. That TOPS doesn't put out odds before
- 48:54Speaker 1: products anymore, which I feel like it's eventually going to
- 48:58Speaker 1: catch up to them if we ever get like a
- 49:00Speaker 1: governmental situation where there's actually people in power that want
- 49:05Speaker 1: to actually make a difference in stuff. And so we've
- 49:08Speaker 1: got different bits and bobs that've come through, and so
- 49:13Speaker 1: i'll share a few of them pass back to you
- 49:15Speaker 1: get your thoughts and also just your general thoughts in
- 49:17Speaker 1: series two, because it's been some cool cards, but it
- 49:21Speaker 1: does seem like it's been a tough ripout there when
- 49:24Speaker 1: I've been seeing the sentiment on Reddit. First one, I
- 49:28Speaker 1: think this actually already happened in series one and we've
- 49:30Speaker 1: just kind of haven't really delved into it. Is that
- 49:34Speaker 1: home field advantage which used to be hfa's are now
- 49:37Speaker 1: just home field. They got rid of the advantage, and
- 49:41Speaker 1: if you're also look, they've gotten rid of a few
- 49:43Speaker 1: of the background pictures too, so they've kind of cleaned
- 49:46Speaker 1: it up they're still very popular, they're still short printed,
- 49:49Speaker 1: but they're certainly not quite what they were in the past,
- 49:51Speaker 1: and they're not providing anybody in an advantage, so that's
- 49:54Speaker 1: unfortunate now. So just wanted to throw that out there.
- 49:57Speaker 1: The other one was I we were trying to figure
- 50:01Speaker 1: out what the through the years Golden Mirror short prints
- 50:05Speaker 1: were of some of the stars, and I had forgotten
- 50:08Speaker 1: that this was in series one because it was so new.
- 50:11Speaker 1: But what they did in series one is they essentially
- 50:13Speaker 1: took like the Hank Aaron rookie card, the Mickey Mantle
- 50:16Speaker 1: rookie card, and they gave it a quote unquote Golden
- 50:19Speaker 1: Mirror short print variation where it had an alternate picture
- 50:22Speaker 1: on it and tried to like rehash that history. They've
- 50:26Speaker 1: done that now with like Griffy with Jeter, and so
- 50:29Speaker 1: I think that's actually got more viability than what we
- 50:32Speaker 1: were talking about last week in terms of it being
- 50:35Speaker 1: reprints of those rookie cards. You can actually see it
- 50:37Speaker 1: in the in the values especially, and those are Taani
- 50:39Speaker 1: ones are like a four thousand dollars plus card right now,
- 50:43Speaker 1: and honestly they might go up because I don't think
- 50:45Speaker 1: people realize how short printed they are, and they're kind
- 50:48Speaker 1: of just reacting to the general short printed nature of it,
- 50:51Speaker 1: but not giving credence to how healthy are out there.
- 50:55Speaker 1: So what do you think now about those through the
- 50:57Speaker 1: years being actual like golden mirror prints of famous rookie cards.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it and I don't at the same time,
- 51:04Speaker 2: Which is I like it because it's not the issue
- 51:07Speaker 2: we had before, which is this like potential risk that
- 51:11Speaker 2: somebody thought this was a different card than it was
- 51:13Speaker 2: because it was the fake autos, the fake patches and
- 51:15Speaker 2: things like that was the issue with the prior through
- 51:17Speaker 2: the years, these ones, I think. I love the golden mirrors,
- 51:21Speaker 2: and because they were usually like our favorite stadium club
- 51:24Speaker 2: stadium club type photography with the golden back, and so
- 51:28Speaker 2: I love that. The problem I'm having here is these
- 51:30Speaker 2: all look pretty like like basic parallels. Like if you
- 51:34Speaker 2: actually look, I'm looking at the Mickey Mantle through the
- 51:37Speaker 2: years that sold on eBay for eighteen dollars, and it
- 51:43Speaker 2: just looks like a just basic answert you give in
- 51:47Speaker 2: the middle of the pack that's got like a gold border,
- 51:50Speaker 2: but it does not like it jumps out or anything
- 51:52Speaker 2: like that. There's a little shine on the back of it.
- 51:55Speaker 2: It really looks like something is maybe like, eh, I'm
- 51:58Speaker 2: throwing the dollar box like it just for the rarity
- 52:01Speaker 2: of it and the golden mirror aspect and the hearkening
- 52:05Speaker 2: to the rookie car like all of that should it
- 52:07Speaker 2: should this just should jump off the page and it doesn't.
- 52:09Speaker 2: And so that's that's why I'm a little disappointed because
- 52:12Speaker 2: I look at this card and go, somebody paid eighteen
- 52:14Speaker 2: hundred bucks for that, Like you can get like, I
- 52:18Speaker 2: don't know, like a satchel page rookie for seven hundred,
- 52:23Speaker 2: like a legit one, Like why did you buy this,
- 52:26Speaker 2: uh Piddley insert for that price? So I struggle with
- 52:29Speaker 2: that aspect of it. But at least it's not going
- 52:31Speaker 2: to cause the hobby confusion that they used to.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got a little bit of just like yeah,
- 52:38Speaker 1: where we're not totally into this type of stuff where
- 52:42Speaker 1: you're getting cards that are four former players but like
- 52:47Speaker 1: quote unquote rookies like the Bowman first that they've been
- 52:50Speaker 1: trying to do with the retro BroMans, And I've kind
- 52:54Speaker 1: of been in the same boat with you there where
- 52:56Speaker 1: it's just like it's a little too gimmicky to like
- 53:00Speaker 1: actually drive the real value because it kind of it
- 53:04Speaker 1: also like it ruins the fun of putting together a
- 53:07Speaker 1: bunch of Rookie cards and trying to like determine which
- 53:11Speaker 1: one will actually come out to be the King in
- 53:13Speaker 1: thirty forty years or whatever. You've already taken that game
- 53:16Speaker 1: out of it. So yeah, I think I'm with you.
- 53:18Speaker 1: They need it's just and it is missing one element.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I don't know if it's a chrome element or a
- 53:24Speaker 1: vintage element. Like that would be really cool if they
- 53:26Speaker 1: were somehow able to reproduce some of the like vintage
- 53:31Speaker 1: stock that would align with the stock from like the
- 53:36Speaker 1: especially I'm thinking like the Griffy through the Year's Golden
- 53:39Speaker 1: Mirror Rookie, where honestly, the other problem is they've done
- 53:43Speaker 1: that like Griffy insert set that use the same sort
- 53:47Speaker 1: of design, and it really kind of cheapened this Golden
- 53:50Speaker 1: Mirror because like we've seen alternate variations already of that
- 53:54Speaker 1: Rookie eighty nine Griffy. But you know, if they put
- 53:57Speaker 1: that on the like stock that nineteen eighty nine cards
- 54:00Speaker 1: came in, I think that would be just the level
- 54:03Speaker 1: of intrigue. I think that we would want to be
- 54:05Speaker 1: able to get a little bit more out of these cards.
- 54:08Speaker 1: What do you think, Yeah.
- 54:10Speaker 2: I think that that could bring a little of it.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Like you said, I think that they'd have to do
- 54:15Speaker 2: that plus something like I think it have to almost
- 54:18Speaker 2: have like the super Fraker feel or something like that
- 54:20Speaker 2: to really make it pop. To your point, the cards
- 54:24Speaker 2: that they're doing this with, it's been done like in
- 54:27Speaker 2: so many different versions that for them to make this
- 54:30Speaker 2: it should have it should have really stuck out. So yes,
- 54:33Speaker 2: I like what you're calling out. I think it would
- 54:34Speaker 2: make it better. I just I can't get on board
- 54:38Speaker 2: with the visuals at this point.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Okay, the next update we have is we actually had
- 54:42Speaker 1: no pictures of the Diamond Dusk inserts when we were
- 54:45Speaker 1: talking last week. These are short printed, they are case hits,
- 54:48Speaker 1: and I think for me, you can add to the
- 54:52Speaker 1: pile the rest of the disappointment that we expressed last
- 54:55Speaker 1: week in terms of the insert designs for Top Series two,
- 54:59Speaker 1: where it just felt lazy and it felt put together
- 55:02Speaker 1: pretty quickly. If you are looking at a picture of these,
- 55:06Speaker 1: what it is is it's a design where you've got
- 55:09Speaker 1: kind of like instead of the plate in the background,
- 55:12Speaker 1: centered up behind the player. You've got their logo of
- 55:15Speaker 1: the team they're on, but it's all in chalk, and
- 55:17Speaker 1: you've got the kind of diamond dust that's where the
- 55:21Speaker 1: diamond dust is that it actually isn't like dust from
- 55:24Speaker 1: a diamond or anything diamond shiny clear related. It's all
- 55:29Speaker 1: baseball dirt diamond related, and so it's very bland looking.
- 55:34Speaker 1: In the pictures I've read that they've got a texture
- 55:37Speaker 1: to them, like a sandpaper texture that makes them cool.
- 55:41Speaker 1: It's not enough for me, so maybe I have to
- 55:44Speaker 1: see one in person and feel the texture. But I
- 55:46Speaker 1: don't know if anybody had a card show is going
- 55:48Speaker 1: to let me take their super short print case it
- 55:50Speaker 1: out of the sleeve to feel the texture. Maybe it
- 55:54Speaker 1: pops a little extra under the light, but it looks
- 55:57Speaker 1: like a pretty basic refractor with very little design. Thought
- 56:02Speaker 1: to me, what's your take here on the diamond dusts?
- 56:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm going to disagree with you to a stint.
- 56:08Speaker 2: I think this is actually is a cool card, but
- 56:11Speaker 2: not for the rarity that it is. And I think
- 56:14Speaker 2: that's maybe what what I'm feeling with a set. And
- 56:16Speaker 2: I did rip a hobby box first time I've ripped
- 56:18Speaker 2: one a while, wasn't a good choice financially by any means.
- 56:22Speaker 2: As I as I sent you a picture of my
- 56:24Speaker 2: big hit, my Winkleman Gonzales Auto. Yeah, I can't remember
- 56:30Speaker 2: what it was. That's Winkleman I saw I got and
- 56:34Speaker 2: it what it felt like is the best inserts that
- 56:38Speaker 2: were like super super short prints should have just been
- 56:41Speaker 2: regular inserts. And the regular inserts were on such thin
- 56:45Speaker 2: foil card stock that they just felt almost flimsy, like
- 56:49Speaker 2: it just felt like the quality drop down. So actually
- 56:52Speaker 2: I'm looking at you know, these these diamond dust like
- 56:55Speaker 2: if this would have been like a regular insert available
- 56:58Speaker 2: in there, even I didn't have the texture like it's
- 56:59Speaker 2: actual a pretty cool card, but it's not a pretty
- 57:02Speaker 2: cool card for something that if you want to get,
- 57:05Speaker 2: like I'm just looking online here, if you want to
- 57:08Speaker 2: get like the Griffy or Bobby with or something like that,
- 57:10Speaker 2: it's like four hundred dollars card. If you want to
- 57:12Speaker 2: make this, this would have been really cool set to
- 57:14Speaker 2: put together if they were five dollar cards. Like That's
- 57:17Speaker 2: that's what to me is what I saw with Series two,
- 57:20Speaker 2: and I think it's the same for the other flagship
- 57:24Speaker 2: non chrome versions. Is that they've kind of watered down
- 57:26Speaker 2: the actual quality of the cards themselves. And this is
- 57:30Speaker 2: the first year I've really felt that the card quality,
- 57:34Speaker 2: the actual card itself was dropping off. And I think
- 57:36Speaker 2: that's what we're seeing is the basic inserts or really
- 57:41Speaker 2: really like rough, and then the premium ones are what
- 57:45Speaker 2: it used to feel like to have a regular insert.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it has started to shape that way. It does
- 57:50Speaker 1: feel that, like the further and further we get with
- 57:53Speaker 1: tops being an fanatics and just kind of like the
- 57:56Speaker 1: goalpost keeps moving in terms of the quality, and it's
- 57:59Speaker 1: start to really show, I think as well as like
- 58:03Speaker 1: the stats on the printing of Series two, it is
- 58:06Speaker 1: certainly much lower than Series one, but it's up from
- 58:09Speaker 1: last year's Series two, And in the pictures I've seen
- 58:12Speaker 1: online you can feel it between the design between the
- 58:17Speaker 1: quality that you're talking about. I mean I even noticed
- 58:19Speaker 1: it a little bit in Series one where the quality
- 58:21Speaker 1: was starting to back up, Like you can kind of
- 58:23Speaker 1: take it, especially like if you find the Titans of
- 58:26Speaker 1: the Game insert from the late nineties early two thousands
- 58:29Speaker 1: and put it next to a twenty twenty six Titans
- 58:32Speaker 1: of the Game insert. The card stock quality it's like
- 58:36Speaker 1: very it's probably like a micro millimeter thickness, but it
- 58:40Speaker 1: is thicker in the older ones, and it just has
- 58:44Speaker 1: a little bit more weight and coolness to it because
- 58:48Speaker 1: of that. And I know there's a nostalgia factor, and
- 58:51Speaker 1: I know there's all these other things I'm ascribing to
- 58:54Speaker 1: fanatics that I'm bringing into this, but like it does,
- 58:58Speaker 1: the quality is not where it was. I feel like
- 59:01Speaker 1: in some of the junk wax eras in the mid
- 59:04Speaker 1: to late nineties, where I think that will be a
- 59:07Speaker 1: fascinating path we have to navigate as a hobby, because yeah,
- 59:12Speaker 1: if we're dealing with collector's choice quality cards, now, what
- 59:17Speaker 1: does that? You know it's junkie. When it feels junky,
- 59:21Speaker 1: you know it's junkie. And it's just like, at some
- 59:24Speaker 1: point we are going to hit the mountaintop and start
- 59:27Speaker 1: coming down the other side. And I'm afraid that that
- 59:29Speaker 1: other side could be a very rapid descent if fanatics
- 59:34Speaker 1: and tops burns so many bridges out there.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Yep.
- 59:38Speaker 1: The last piece of news we have. We were confounded
- 59:41Speaker 1: in trying to speculate what the highlight reel cards were
- 59:43Speaker 1: last week. We still don't know. They haven't surfaced. They
- 59:50Speaker 1: are still in the checklist officially from TOPS. So I've
- 59:53Speaker 1: been googling around. I've been trying to find information on
- 59:56Speaker 1: these highlight reel cards. I don't know what they are
- 59:59Speaker 1: or if they were included in Series two. We have
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: seen that before from TOPS and fanatics over the years,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: where they've just kind of like missed cards, like in
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: coalations where you'll see sometimes they just like forgot to
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: put a card out there, and I'm wondering if that happened,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: or if there was something that happened in the checklist
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: that got put out and they didn't rescind it and
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: now they still haven't looked. But I'm fascinating because it
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: was on there in the inserts listed and we haven't
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: seen any sort of news on it, especially those out
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: there that are trying to put together master sets, which
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: is all base cards and all base inserts, usually not
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: the super short prints like the diamond dusts, but highlight
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: reels would have been on that list, because you can
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: tell I've seen one Aaron Judge quote unquote highlight reel
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: on there on eBay that it has sold, but it
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: was just a crooked numbers that somebody mislabeled and somebody
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: snatched right up. So the miss story of Highlight Reels
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. We're gonna be searching for it. If
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: you have any information, certainly let us know. But Broove,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: this is really confusing.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, well it's been a while since we've had
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: a Tops fanatics real gaff. While I say that didn't
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: we just had basketball cards print on the back of
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: baseball cards, So maybe not, but it it. It does
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: feel like you're right, either like a printing issue took
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: place and so that they didn't end up getting these
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: inserted in there or like and I've again I haven't
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: seen anything like on the checklist, Like it's it's like
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: a they're only included in like fat packs or something
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: that fat packs haven't remember released, like which they have,
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: so like I don't know, like maybe there's a not
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: a Costco bundle, but there's a Sam's Club bundle now
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: that they're gonna come up with it, and it's all
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: in those Like it feels like there's some weirdness going on,
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: like they meant to produce these and they either forgot
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: they're gonna insert them, like in the second print run
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: of them that they do behind the scenes. Like it's
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: kind of kind of like the all the airs you
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: saw it used to see back in the nineties or
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: eighties and something where they like printed so many realizlimate
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: of steak and then kind of tried to fix it.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: And then those kind of things were the little legit airs.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: So I don't know what's gonna what's going on here.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: I have a feeling we're never gonna know.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Yeah, So I mean, I'll keep kind of poking around,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Like I said, if you know what it's happened or
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: have information on it, certainly reach out to us. But
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: it is a mystery to us here at cards and categories.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Like I said, the baseball card calendar has been updated
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: in those show notes, So really the highlights here are
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Top's Finest got a set date on July eighth, and
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: then we have Tops Chrome coming out pre order next
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: week on June twenty second, twenty twenty six. You do
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: have two twenty twenty five products coming out later this week,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: so keep that in mind, especially if you're at the
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: hobby shopping you see the new Tops Dynasty or the
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: new Tops Inception, that newness is actually twenty twenty five
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: cards just the way Tops Chrome Platinum recently was, So
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: if you're searching for more comedies, they won't be in there.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Tops Chrome will certainly be quite the bonanza. Just given
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: the rookie class that we've got. I think we'll probably
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: be both staying away because we'll see with the prices
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: look at pre order, but I can tell you start
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: taking out that second mortgage if you're interested in any
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: sort of volume on Tops Chrome this year, and on
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: top of it, good luck pulling anything because it's all
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: going to those breakers boxes. So just keep that in
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: mind as you get into Tops Chrome this year, because
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: I think it's going to be extremely, extremely hyped given
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: all of the rookies in there, and just the the
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Otani market is bananas. I'm looking at these diamond dusts
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: right now for Otani's. You said the other ones were
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: four hundred, Otani's are three to four k, and the
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Otani inserts are going to be crazy in Tops Chrome.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we're going to take a short break and
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: we will be back on the other side to talk
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: about selling cards. All right, Welcome back, everybody. We're going
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: to get right into our main subject of this podcast,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: which is talking about how do you sell cards? So
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: this is going to be a very incomprehensive guide, as
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: I've kind of labeled on the podcast, because a lot
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: of it it's going to be from our personal experience
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: and kind of where we've sold different cards or bought
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: different cards and the experiences we've had. I mean, just
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: like selling and buying anything out there, you can do
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: it just about anywhere and just kind of find a
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: way to do your own sales. But I think what
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: we'll provide is what we've kind of learned and kind
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: of what we've seen others go through, and then hopefully
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: that kind of provides it's a nice little guide for
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: you to get things kicked off to be able to
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: start your selling journey as you're building up your card collection,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: because that is going to be I think an important
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: portion where it's always fun if you're a new collector
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: out there, you're putting together your card collection. But what
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: happens when you start running out of space? What happens
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: when you hit a card that's actually worth selling? You know,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: if you've been ripping value boxes and you haven't really
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: hit anything other than a five dollars insert or something,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: if you finally hit a big card, how do you
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: move that card? Because that's how you recoup the losses
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: that you've already kind of put into everything else and
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: helps you get cooler cards and just be able to
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: consolidate and figure out what you want to do with
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: your PC from there. So I was looking back in
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: our podcast, like we were kind of talking about in
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: the intro, I think we've never specifically had a carved
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: out segment to talk about selling. We do pepper it
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: into our conversations over time, and so certainly this isn't
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: all fprehensive, because if you want the comprehensive list of
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: how to do this stuff, tune into us every week,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: especially on the card episodes when we get into the
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: hobby and just the market and how to do these
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: things in small bits of details. So mash that follow button,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: mash that five star review. It'll just help you be
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: able to keep track of things going forward. So with
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: this intro, brew, I mean, anything you kind of want
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: to add in terms of where maybe you started in
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: your selling journey or things that maybe were in hindsight
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: you wish you had known from step one.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there there's probably a few things one.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: If you're going to collect cards, you have to be
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: able to sell cards. I think there's really you can't
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: do one without the other. And that's kind of a
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: requirement to build a good collection. You have to interact
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: with people. You got to figure out how to ride
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: the waves of the hobby because values fluctuate pretty significantly
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: and you need to understand why and how that happens.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: And I think that the thing that I will say,
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: even learning when I got back in the hobby, because
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: I was one of those, uh you know, COVID guys
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: to get back in the hobby, you know, found my
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: cards because I couldn't leave my house and dug through
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: them with my kid, and I made I made a
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: mistake early on. I took a big bundle of my
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: like basketball cards, some old baseball cards, things like that
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: that weren't like my prime collection but probably had some value.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: And I sold them to the card shop, bought like
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: three boxes of like nineteen eighty eight tops or something
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: like that, and ripping with my son, which was a blast.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: And don't get me wrong, and we that's we probably
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: still have those because we can't get rid of that.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: That's just kindling. But don't do not sell without educating yourself.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I think is the is the big thing, because if
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: you're trying to rush through, you know, sell cards, not
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: know what you have, you're gonna do yourself a disservice
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: because there's just so that the market for cards is
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: just so robust and so segmented that everybody has their niche,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: everybody knows wants something different, and you really want to
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: take your time understanding what you have to then really
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: get the most out of making that selling experience. You
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: can dump cards anywhere very easily, but if you actually
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: want to maximize what you're doing, you need to know
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: what you have.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think along with that, like there is
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: a certainly some classic economics supply and demand elements here
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: in terms of also speed and distance, so like in
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: terms of immediacy, your first thought might be, Okay, I'm
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: just going to go sell this to the card shops,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: but that's actually probably the worst spot to get the
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: bang for your buck if you're trying to get the
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: full value out of your cards and what you're selling,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: because one, they need to make a profit to be
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: able to meet their overhead in that card shop, they're
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: paying rent they're paying utilities, they actually have some significant
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: outlay on their overhead to be able to make a buck,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: and so if they're buying cards at even above fifty
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: percent of like market value, they're gonna lose, so they're
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: gonna really give you lower offers there. Certainly, I think
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: there are card shops that are better at this than others,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: and other card shops that are much worse than others
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: and will scam and take care take advantage of people
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: who don't know what they're doing. If you do have
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: a good relationship with your card shop, especially if you
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: can do trades, that's probably better than just straight up selling.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: And maybe you will find a situation where you know,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: if you've got a good rapport, you've got a good
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: relationship with your card shop owner, that that person will
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: allow you to get a little more bang for your buck,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: or maybe even like carve out a little space in
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: their display case to sell your cards and turn around
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: a commission or something like that. But I think generally
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: that's probably even though that would be the first thing
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: you would think to google and go sell your cards,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: probably not the best unless you app they need the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: cash immediately, right.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, like if you haven't built a rapport
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: with your local card shop, you don't know the guys
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: by name type of thing. It's it's probably not wise
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: because if the card shop's willing to give you advice
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: and not just give you an offer, then you might
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: have found the right spot. They're willing to help you
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: through and think about it. But to your point, they
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: got the overhead. They have limited shelf space. They have
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: to focus on moving, uh to keep their licenses with
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: tops and fanatics. It's the amount of product they have
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: to move. They really have to be into the sealed stuff.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: It's they're they're gonna lot up and you know, pennybox
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: a lot of your stuff, Like they're looking for the
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: bigger stuff that they can make make moves, and a
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: lot of them have to branch out into other mediums
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: anymore to make ends meet. So you are going to
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: get less there just because they have a different business
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: model and they guess what, they have people showing up
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: every single day, multiple times a day trying to dump
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: things on them, and so they also have a better
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: opportunity do to pick and choose what's going to fit
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: and give them the margins sustain. So this is nothing
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: against card shops. I think card shops are like life
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: blood of the hobby. I think they are so valuable.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: So I've met some amazing people visiting card shops and
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong with that, But if you're trying to
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: sell your cards, I would not start there.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's just kind of like the same
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: if you are buying cards at Target. You can't just
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: like take them back and sell them to Target, where
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: it's like the main focus of a card store and
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: card shop is to sell their product, and so just
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: keep that in mind if you are trying to sell
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: your product to them. The other thing that I think
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: we wanted to touch on just briefly before we get into,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: especially the more detailed conversations I'm where to sell cards
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: is just timing to sell. And this is something that
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: we certainly touch on all the time in all of
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: our conversations and trying to not only outline the best
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: time to sell when you're when you're opening new product,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: which is within the first month. After the first month,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it's a very steep drop off, and honestly, each week
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: after that release is a steep drop off too. It's
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: a tiered system and you know, maybe some products do
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: you get a second month of juice, but usually you're
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: looking at about a month where the peak value is there,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: and then especially on more common cards, it'll start. It
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: just flattens out from there, certainly. And keep in mind
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: with everything that we're talking about, if you're sitting on
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: like a of five, of ten, one of one, the
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: market is going to be very different overall because you're
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: sitting on such a scarce thing. But in general, if
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: you're talking base cards, short prints, more common serial numbered cards,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: this will hold true. So something to keep in mind there,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: as well as promotions, big moments and events in a
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: player's career, so like if they hit for a cycle
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: like PCA did the other night, if you have playoff runs,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: all star bursts will give a little bit of a
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: boost to These are usually the best times to sell
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: and spring training, so those are like the kind of
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: the best windows. But a lot of it is feel
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be a lot of fuel.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Yeah. I think the only other ones i'd add is
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: free agent signings we'll we'll do it, and prospect promotions.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: I think that the thing that has actually changed over
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: the few years in the card sailing game is it's
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: not actually the promotion anymore. It's the hype before the promotion.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: And what what you will actually see is these guys,
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: especially in the early in the spring, the guys that
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: are trying to make teams of spring training and they're
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: having good seasons, like they're like it's almost like they're
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: in the majors at that point, and their card values
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: actually will go down when they're promoted because everybody's been
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: buying them ahead waiting for that promotion, and then in
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: the market floods at that point. Supplying to man, this
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: is basic economics, which is not probably the podcast for
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: that when you don't come to us for basic economics advice,
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: but I think that is something you have to be
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: very very careful with. And also the winter do not
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: sell in the winter. There's some exceptions again big names,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: vintage cards, things like that, but selling them the winter,
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: you naturally are gonna get less because everyone's playing attention
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: to football in basketball at that point in time, especially
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: the folks who go across hobbies, I'll go across sports,
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: and so selling the winter a great time to buy.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Buy in the winter, selling the spring, and you're going
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: to do well.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, And maybe the only other thing there is awards
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: announcements will get a little bit of a boost, but
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I mean hasn't been quite as impactful as these past
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: few years because it's just Judge and now TONI and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: the market keeps going up.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: So so.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if you're also looking for general advice,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: reach out to us, like we will help you on
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: blue Sky and other social media platforms, and you can
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: email us at cards Categories at gmail dot com. You
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: can find us on blue Sky at cards Categories, and
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I think we will give you advice if you need
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: individual kind of tailored advice to your card, your situation.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: We're open. So it's gonna, like I said, until you
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: get a feel for selling over our I would say
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: a couple of years. It's the ebbs and flows and
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: kind of watching sales on eBay and watching kind of
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: market pricing that you might see in other sites that
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: we're going to talk about. They'll give you a sense
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: of kind of how things move if you're really connected
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: in it is certainly overwhelming the first time you go around.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: So yeah, and I want to add in that, like
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: from our what we're talking about from our perspective is
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: not like the grail selling I think you kind of
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: called out earlier. Yes, we're talking about selling the cards
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: in the you know, five to fifty to maybe what
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: two three hundred dollars range like that, that kind of
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: meat of selling. We're not talking about the four or
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: five figure cards Like that's a different market than what
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: we what we should talk about. It's not the stuff
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: you see on TikTok and things like that of these
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: guys making ten thousand dollars deals and things like that
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: really fun to watch. That's not what we're talking about here.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: We're talking the common collector is try to sell cars
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: to build their collection. It's a different game. But coolly,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: maybe something will be worth sharing for everybody is like,
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: what's what's your selling experience? What where have you sold?
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: To give folks we have some selling experience. We're not
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: completely just making this up. We both sold cards for
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: many years, and so give what's your seller profile for everybody?
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Yeah? For me, I mean it's mostly eBay, just because
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I think I prefer the security of eBay, the ease
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: of eBay. eBay also just provides lots of tools to
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: make it a lot easier on you. It provides you
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: the largest platform so that you can move the five
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: dollars cards and find the right people. Everybody's on eBay.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: If you're a collector of any serious kind of level,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: you're gonna be on eBay. So eBay is certainly my
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: number one spot where I sell. It's been a little while,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: but I've done card shows with you, and I think
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: that's another great spot. If you have the opportunity with
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: your local hobby kind of other folks and you've got
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: a connection, it's very fun. Like it's great because most
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: of them will take place in like hotels or other
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: kind of like community gathering places like schools a lot too,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: where we go get spots to rent out and generally
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: you can get a relatively cheap table. And that's probably another,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I mean, certainly the an easier route to go in
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: terms of like if you just want to work in
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: cash like irs, tune out now. But if you want
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: to if you want to just sell in cash so
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about tax implications, card shows
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: are going to be your best friend because everything's in
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: cash there. eBay is obviously if you're going to get
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: to a certain level, you're gonna start working with tax
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: forms and ten to ninety nine forms and stuff like that,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: so you're going to have to do some tracking of
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: losses and gains. But generally, if you're unless you're doing
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: like really crazy volume, I would say ten k plus
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: on eBay, most of the accounting and tax implications are
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: pretty minimal, especially if you have a regular other source
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: of income where this is a side source. If it's
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: if it's your only source of income, certainly you're going
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: to have larger tax implications to worry about. And you
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: do really want to keep track of what you're spending
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: on ripping boxes and trying to allocate that a little bit.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: But I think that's a little bit less of a
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: worry when you're talking kind of your standard collector that
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: is trying to put together a few sets a year,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: has a team or a player that they really love
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: and is just kind of you know, spending I don't know,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: I would say like a thousand or less a year
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: on this type of stuff. Then I don't think you
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: have to worry about the tax applications as much. Caveat
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I this is not real taxifice YadA YadA YadA or whatever,
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: so don't take it to the bank. But that is
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: just kind of how you can find your way and
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: path forward. So Brew, what's your selling experience.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I to the point, eBay is the
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: clear winner here. I've I've probably i'll probably hit five
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: thousand cards sold on my eBay this year at some point.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Done a lot there. I've done some on kind of
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: the random sites and we'll call out a few view
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: them later. Uh, done a deal or too through Instagram
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: collects and things like that. You know, card shows is
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: definitely the place you and I've set up for uh,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: selling to vendors, trading with vendors, things like that. That's
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: kind of generally where where I've where I've done it.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: I've bought on probably every platform exists, and so I
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: know enough about it and just it's you know, there's
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: so many platforms out there. Don't try to sell on everything.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: And you know, if you really, if you want one spot,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: eBay is the place to be. It's the biggest marketplace.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: It's also probably got the highest fees. Just know that
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: and we'll talk about it. But it is something that
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: you have to learn and kind of pick your spot
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: of where you want to be.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Yeah. So I mean, let's get into discussing eBay because
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I think that is where the bulk of this discussion
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: will be at, because that is really the biggest game
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: in talent when it comes to card collecting and card
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: selling especially, and so the big thing you do need
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: to keep in mind is the fee structure on eBay
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: that per listing, you are already being dinged per a
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: listing when you put it up, and then you also
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: are going to hit be hit with a percentage fee
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: on whatever the ultimate sale is, as well as if
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: you're using the automatic advertising options, which will put your
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: card towards the top of everybody's search when they're you know,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: because if they're searching for Munatakamakami Series two rookie card,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: there's thousands upon thousands of them. If you want to
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: move to the top of that, you can pay for
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: an advertising level from eBay that will come out of
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: your final fee as well. And so really what I
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: encourage folks to do is like, because you'll see tons
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: of cards on there, they're like a dollar, a dollar,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: fifty two dollars. Uh, those dudes are literally making I
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: mean people, dudes can be anybody really, but like they're
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: literally making pennies on those sales and have such an
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: efficient operation because what they are doing and you can
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: see this actually an Instagram post too, where the setup
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: behind it is gotten so mature in terms of you know,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: they have their their card sleeves that they put everything
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: in the bought and bulk, they've got the shipping mailers,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: the hard shipping mailers, they've got the stamps, they've got
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the automatic labels, where they've really whittled it down to
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: a science of knowing what they're Their input in sales
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: on every card is so that they're just making razor
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: thin pennies on those really really cheap cards. So my
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: journal rule thumb, it's got to be a five dollars
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: card if I'm going to listen it on eBay. I
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: do have some there lower and like I'll start it
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: at five and start working it down. But especially like
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: if I know it's something that it's a little bit
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: more of like a random parallel that I know somebody
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: that's going to be a team collector will want to
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: come across it, I don't have a problem kind of
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: sticking it up there and just letting it sit because
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: I've had cards and I'm sure you're in this boat too,
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: that I've been up there for like three four years
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: and somebody finally comes and picks it up, because you
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: know they're starting to put to get to that set,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: or they're just getting into it and they like that player.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: And so I'm not terribly worried if things have to
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: sit out there for a while, as long as I
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: know where the card is in my office and can
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: find it to ship it quickly. But that is where
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: my line is about five dollars to listen on eBay,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: because even after you do that, when you start taking
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: out all the fees and stuff, you make just a
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: shade over two bucks on like a five dollars card.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: The sweet spot for selling on eBay, I think is
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: like ten to twenty, because the other thing here you
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: have to keep in mind is anything twenty dollars an under.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: On eBay you can sell as a blank white mail card,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: which means you can put it through the mail just
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: like the normal mail with a normal stamp. But you
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: can also get that through eBay as a label and
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: print out, so you can go either route. I usually
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: go with the eBay label because it allows some tracking
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: even when you're only paying the seventy six cent seventy
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: six cent shipping that'll be outdated very quickly, but you
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: get that tracking for free. So is that about what
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: your eBay experience is too, or is there a different
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: strategy you take? Do you like moving the tiny cards?
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: Is there a better sweet spot that you aim for?
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll throw a few things, not terribly different. I'll
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: go a little lower than you will. And I think
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: it's because I think my volume is a little higher
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: than en yours, and because my volume has been a
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: little higher, I've got some top rated seller status, and
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: so I get two hundred and fifty free listings every month,
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: and so I don't pay those upfront fees, and so
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: I'm able to kind of keep roughly two hundred listings
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: active at all times, which enables that. And I also
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: have all my envelopes and mailers and labels and all
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: that in bulk, and so I will I've got my
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: costs down pretty low. If I'm if I'm selling a
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: five dollar card, I'm probably making after shipping three fifty
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: or so, so I'm doing pretty well. The few things
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: that I will do is lot things up. And I
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: think I know you've done this before. As well. So
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: if you do have a lot of those one dollar cards,
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: some lots that tend to move really really well are
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: serial number of cards. It will be like relics, and
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: it will be like keep players. And so you might
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: have a lot of fifty King Griffey Junior cards or
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: Greg Maddox cards or Mike Trout cards, and individually they're
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: probably fifty cents to a dollar, and it'll take you
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: forever to move them. If you put them as fifty
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: of the cards for forty dollars, you might be able
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: to sell that as a full group to a player collector.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: So you're gonna get better bang for your buck there.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: The other sweet spot that I really enjoy is you
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: already kind of called out you said the ten to
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: twenty it's the twenty to twenty five dollars range is
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: incredibly sweet because the eBay standard envelope, which you mentioned earlier,
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: is not only can you buy the label through eBay,
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: it's insured up to twenty dollars. And people who get
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: scared of that. I have probably done a dozen or
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: two dozen insured claims with them because something happens, the
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: card gets destroyed, it gets lost, something like that. I
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: have never had one denied. I've always had them paid out.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: It is incredibly easy to do and so don't get
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: scared of this, like wow, it's just shame insurance it
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: actually plays. But where I think there's an advantage, there
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: is a lot of sellers on eBay don't like to
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: play that game because they were so used to the
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: old way of like literally putting a stamp on it
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: and it was like a five to ten percent of
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: the time, like somebody like it didn't show up, so
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: you got a refund me, but you knew it showed up,
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: but like you had no recourse. Now with the tracking,
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: that's like I would say, it's like a half percent
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: and you can get you get they get the insurance
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: on it. But there's some play some sellers, a lot
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: of sellers that have zero desire to play in that
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: game of the standard envelopes and they will charge the
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: five or six dollars bubble bailer on a two to
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: three dollars card. Where I found a really valuable spot
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: is people are listing twenty five dollars cards with five
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: dollars shipping, and they're probably accepting offers or fifteen twenty dollars. Well,
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: I'll put a card at nineteen ninety five and do
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: one dollar shipping, and I'm now five to ten dollars
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: cheaper than everybody else. And so if you can stand
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: to that twenty dollars range, ship ship them that way,
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: your risk is low. You can move things fast. So
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: from a pure fee structure perspective, this is the tip
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: I'll give everybody. If you're going to sell something on eBay,
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: multiply the selling price by eighty five percent. That's at
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: best what you're going to get. If you're going to
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: promote it, multiply it by seventy five percent, because you're
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: going to probably lose another ten percent on the promotion fees.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: And there's a lot of promotion out there, folks promote
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: almost everything. I would fully recommend list it, find the lowest,
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: buy it out listing puts yours five cents a dollar
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: under that, leave it for a month, and if it's
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: like a popular players in season, something you should want
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: to move now, then promote it after that and see
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: what happens. I literally had one cell today. It's like
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: you said, leave it out there for a while. I'd
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: had the Paul Goldsmith auto a Reverence Auto, which is
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: actually pretty cool out there for almost six months, had
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: not sold it, had not sold it. Had I got
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: two offers today on promoted listing and sold it because
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: he's well and it works. Now. I think I sold
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: a butt one for eighty bucks plus you know, shipping,
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: and I'm probably gonna make fifty eight dollars sixty dollars
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: because the promotion of the fees and things like that.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: So just know it's the king. You will get the
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: most opportunity's most eyes there, but you also pay for that.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's why we're also saying that the sweet
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: spot is kind of in that ten to twenty to
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: twenty five dollars range because that chunk of the fifteen
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: to twenty five percent that eBay takes off just hurts less.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: You know, it's the same number, It is the same number.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't feel as bad when you're talking that
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: small of a card as opposed to when you're selling
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: a four thousand dollar card. That's eBay taking one thousand
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: dollars off of that from you. So that's I think,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: especially like on eBay, like I do have some cards
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: that have been pretty big, and I think probably the
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: biggest one I've ever moved on there has been maybe
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: like five hundred bucks, because I think beyond that, that's
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: where I want to start finding a different route to
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: sell it. Because you're talking hundreds or thousands of dollars
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: coming off and going to eBay, And that's why within
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: the hobby it is known as phebe to some folks
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: out there. So a couple of things that you talked
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: about that I think we should kind of carve out,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: especially for basic beginning sellers. One you reference the sell price,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: So this is something where I think lots of people
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: when your first getting into the game on eBay, they
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: get very confused because they get a card like, for example,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I'm sure you could probably go on there now and
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: find some serious two more comedies that are like twenty
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: twenty five dollars, and people are like, yeah, those more
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: comedies were twenty dollars. This one on eBay is listened
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: for that. The problem is you had to go to sold.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: So it's a pretty easy feature. It's in different spots
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: depending on the browser or the app or however you're
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: accessing eBay, but you can always filter all of the
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: transactions to most recent sold or completed and be able
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: to find cards that have moved. Obviously, if there's a
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: negotiation there where it was a buy it now and
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: there was an accepted offer that was taken, then maybe
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: you don't have the full clear details, but you knew
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: you will know that somebody listed a card at that
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: buy it now price and got an offer that they
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: deemed acceptable and did not end up in a situation
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: where they were totally off in left field with their value.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: So and even on that, there's a couple of ways
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: to sell on eBay. One is straight auction. I don't
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: do it anymore. It's been I used to a lot.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I can't remember the last time I've done it, mostly
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: because it's brutal, it's tough sledding. I think, especially nowadays
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: with the just wide usage of AI as well, that
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: people are getting their bids very very precise and getting
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: cards very cheap on auction. I only use by it
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: now to sell cards because that way I can dictate
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: the price. I don't have to worry about listing a
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: five dollars card starting the auction at ninety nine cents
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: and it goes for ninety nine cents and I've lost
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: a couple of dollars, when if I just put it
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: up as a buy it now with the option to
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: receive offers, I probably would have gotten a three dollars
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: offer in a couple of days later. So that is
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: the way I approach it. I don't know, what do
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: you do. Do you take to do a lot of
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: auctions or you mostly a buy it now guy?
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm mostly a buy it now guy almost every time.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: I'll accept the best offers on all of my listings.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: The probably few scenarios where I do use auctions, something
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: pulling a decent sized card right at release where there's
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: really not good coms, you can't really tell what the
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: price is going to be, and you know that like
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: it's going to go down quickly, Like that's a good
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: time to auction, maybe a three or five day auction
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: because being one of the first ones out there that's
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: going to set the price, and you also have no
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: idea well to set that, so like that that's a
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: good way to go. Clearing inventory is the other one,
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: and I've what I've noticed sometimes especially cards that are
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: not like from current sets or maybe a few years
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: old or popular players, but just have more of the niche.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: I will sometimes run There's two ways I'll do it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: I'll either run it like roughly at a buy it
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: now price as an auction, just because there's a lot
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: of folks that will search for auctions in soon, like
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: on a Sunday night, sitting on the couch watching the game.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: There's just what's what's any where I can get a
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: good deal, So I'll list it, and if I get
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: my basically my price might instead of ten dollars to
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: buy it now, I'll start a ten dollars auction, and
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: you know, I might sell a few, or maybe i'll
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: start them at half price. You know, if I'm trying
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: to clear things out, if I'm truly trying to clear
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: it yourself nine nine cents and you're hoping for the
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: best but you're not going to get much out of it,
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: you'll sell a lot. But that's the thin margins. So
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: those are the only thoughts I'm really using auctions. But
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: almost everything I do, I start with a buy it now,
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: And I'm only coming back to the auction when I'm like,
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: I've got I've got a few hundred cards here, and
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: I like these just need to move, and I've and
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: I've got stuck on the two three dollars cards. The
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: value there. I'm like, I just need to clear some inventory.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: That's the only time I'm doing it.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Yep, yep, I think I'm in the same boat with you.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: The other thing I wanted to mention was because we've
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: talked a little bit about the plain white envelope shipping
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: and the kind of standard mailing that comes with eBay.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: So keep in mind there that, like you said, anything
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: twenty dollars under you can ship on eBay using what
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: is just like a standard stamp cost that you would
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: get at your standard US post office. Sorry, I guess
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: we've probably should have opened that this is all US based,
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: but you can. I have sold to Canada and Mexico
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: and it's it's pretty similar. And eBay does a lot
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: of the heavy lifting for you when you just print
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: their shipping label, so that's always the easiest way to go.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: But you can if it's under twenty dollars, you can
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: essentially just send the card in an envelope. Don't be
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: a dick. Put it in a top loader. Put it in.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: Put it I usually do top loader if the top
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: loader is a little flimsy because there is allays toploaders
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: that are more flimsy than others. It's always an old
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: top loader, like a toploader that has a sticker on
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: it or has You know, I'm not using my brand
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: new toploaders on these. I will admit that, but I
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: think that's pretty expected in this situation. I take the
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: top loader. You put a little piece of painter's tape
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: at the top of the top loader so that it
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: can seal it shut and the card won't slip out
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: because it will slip out in the mail. I guarantee
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: it will then. Usually like because when you're cutting out
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: the eBay label, there's still a little bit of paper
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: left with it. I wrap it in that paper, just
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: for a little more structure. If it is a flimsy
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: top loader, like I said, maybe I'll take like a
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: very thin piece of cardboard, like from like a cereal
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: box or your hobby box or hobby box.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: I do do that to just provide a little more backing.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: You put it in the middle of the envelope and
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: then I tape it to the middle of the envelope
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: because you will also see if you're buying a lot
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: of cards in eBay, I think we've all run to
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: this situation where you get a card in the in
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: the envelope arrives, but the card's not there because it's
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: ripped out the side because somebody just had the card
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: floating free in the envelope and it got stuck in
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: a machine. So that's why it's good to put that
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: little piece of tape there in the middle. I've never
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: had any issues with cards falling out doing this. I
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: have had a few get bent, but that's gonna happen,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: and that's what's the name of the game, yep. And
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: that's when you do the the refund like options through eBay,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: you just send a refund to who you sold it
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: to and you file that insurance claim like you were
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: talking about. Is that pretty much what you do for
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: blank quite too.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: The premier is the only the only difference I have
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: is I do have a laser label printer, So that
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: makes my life heck of a lot easier. To shout
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: out to my wife who got really tired of me,
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: uh printing every off the regular printer one Christmas, and
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: that's life changing. Uh. If you ever want to go
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: that route, because you can, you can blaze through getting
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: those things printed and and run. I do the exact
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: same thing, top loader, small piece of tape to to
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: kind of crimp it shut. Do not use the car
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: painter stape. Do not use card savers. Do not use
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: masking tape those card savers. It will slide out of it,
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: or it will slide into the tape masking tape, or
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: even worse, just basic like I'm like scotch tape. Scotch tape,
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: basic scotch tape. That's those don't come off of anything,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: and it will damage every single card that it gets
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: in contact with painters tape, even touches, the card will
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: come off very very easily. And then I do the
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: exact same thing. I tape it right in the middle
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: the envelope, toss it in and it's off. And uh.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: The other piece of advice I have is if you
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: run into an issue where there is damage something like that,
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: people are in so understanding and so helpful in this situation.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: Reach out, ask the question, send a photo of what happened.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: Especially with those eBay tracking sometimes it show it says
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: it shows up, and it like shows up two days later.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: Things like that. People are generally very understanding and you know,
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: something something happen. I've I've had cards where somebody's like
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: it didn't show up and I'm like, h it s thanks.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: Can you wait a few days and they'll say yeah,
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: shows up, or the wait a few days like hey
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: reach out, it's like, hey, still hasn't show it up.
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, here's a refund. If it ever
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: shows up, let me know. And people, I've literally had
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: people that I've like refound them ten fifteen dollars. They've
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: reached out like two weeks later and said, dude, the
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: card showed up, and what do you want to do?
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: And I'm just like hey, I mean like and I'm like,
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: it's it's up to you, Like I've already done the
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: refund on Gufie insurance coming, but if you want to
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: buy something else, or I'm like, how about this, I'll
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: I've literally relisted the same card, like the same listing
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: and they bought it, and I just grabbed a label
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: asking their favorite team through something else in and just
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: mail it to them as a thank you for the honesty.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: And like people are so understanding in those scenarios where
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: you see all the bad stories. Honestly, it's on the
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: hire end cards, or it's the quick flips and things
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: like that. That's where it can get a little bit
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: crazy at times. But I'm very very similar, do your
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: best to protect it. Things will happen.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Just be logical, Yeah, exactly. And I think the other
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: reason I like eBay is because it's got a lot
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: of these features to protect sellers and buyers alike. It
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: will lean a little more buyer friendly, and so keep
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: that in mind that like, if you do get into
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: he said, she said, usually they will go with the buyer.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: But the other thing too is there is like a
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: moderation team, there's a help there's a help team at eBay.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: So if you're running into somebody harassing you because the
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: transaction didn't go the way they wanted to, you've got
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: help through eBay. So that's why it's I think a
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: really good platform just in general to start on, because
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: a lot of the worries and anxieties that I think
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: can come along with some of these more wild well
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: West platforms are going to talk about are mitigated through
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: just the hemith that is eBay.
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: And find somebody that's done it before, because you're exactly right,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: there's a ton of protections for everybody in there, but
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: if you haven't done it before, you might not know
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: what's there. A great example I just had it maybe
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: a few weeks ago, is I mailed something. It was
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: probably a forty dollars card in a Bubble mailer, well
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: protected tracking. Everything went fine, it showed delivered at the
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: address at a certain time and everything. Person reached out
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: and said, hey, the card never showed up, and I'm like,
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: They're like, what are you gonna do about it? It
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: was like, that's not on me. It showed up. The
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: tracking shows that was delivered at your house. Like, I
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: can't do anything for you there. That's with you in
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: the local post office. And I basically said, I'm not
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: refunding that. eBay sided with me and it says, hey,
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: it shows delivered, and so therefore you need to work
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: with a post office or somebody else because you can't
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: hold the seller accountble for something where they did everything
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: right and it shows delivered, it doesn't show delivered. They
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: have insurance for those types of things. But I would say,
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: find somebody that's done it before, ask questions. We've all
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: been there. Anybody selling has started somewhere and made all
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: the mistakes they can prevent a lot of them for you.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and then I mean the other kind of end
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: on selling cards. We've talked about the envelopes there. We've
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: referenced a couple times in terms of bubble mailers. Anything
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: over twenty dollars, it's got to go with standard ground shipping.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: You do have options there between FedEx ups usps. Usps
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: will always be the cheapest. I always do it through
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: eBay just because is the easiest. You can certainly shop
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: it a little bit. There's like pirateshipping dot com and
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: some other places, but generally I just run in through eBay.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: Makes so much easier if you're already selling there. And
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: then what you'll do there is if the card's over
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: twenty dollars, you're going to want to put it into
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: a bubble mailer or something more secure than just a
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: regular envelope. Usually what I do is put it into
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: a nicer top loader. And you know, this is where
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: I do use one of the newer ones. If it
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: is a bigger, bigger card, I will put it in
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: a one touch but in both cases I make sure
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: to put thicker cardboards. So this is where you're talking
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: like the box from an Amazon shipment like that type
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: of thickness, one on each side, make a sandwich, tape
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: them together with painters, tape around the outside, put in
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: the bubble mailer, fold the bubble mailer over a little
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: bit so there's not a lot of wiggle room, and
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: then ship it up from there. Never I've never ever
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: had an issue on that end in terms of shipping
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: and having the card arrive safely and without any condition issues.
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: Yep. And just and just keep retching it up at
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: the value of the card. Where is the customer server
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: should come in Because I'm the same way as you.
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: If I'm selling twenty five dollars cards, sometimes I just
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: toss it, I tape everything, tossed it in and move on.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: You know, you get maybe a fifty seventy five dollars card.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: I'm doing a lot more putting in a team bag.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: I'm putting card where I saw a one hundred and fifty
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: dollars card. I'm buying election insurance. I'm putting in an
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: actual like box and putting some bubble wrap around it. Like,
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: you just have to go with the what your expectation
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: would be of receiving. This is what you should deliver.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: YEP, and then I mean once you get beyond two
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: hundred and fifty bucks nowadays anyway, you have to go
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: through the eBay authentication process. So what's going to happen
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: there is if you have a card that's above two
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: hundred and fifty dollars and that's where the sale is,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: you're gonna want to send that in a bubble mailer,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: just the way that we're talking about, but you send
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: it to like a centralized address where eBay will get
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: the card, review it, verify that it is the card
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: that you've listed. I have seen some people have run
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: into issues, So you've got to be really careful about
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: these hir end cards, making sure all of your listing
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: details are right on eBay, you know, including the team.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: Like if you have like an Otani card where he's
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: on the Angels but you listed as the Dodgers, it
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: could get rejected by eBay authentication depending on who's reviewing it.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: So there's a little bit of a risk there that
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: you know, maybe you want to get the crossover of
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: the Dodgers and the Angels fans, but if you don't
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: do it right, you could risk that when it goes
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: through the eba authenticator, they reject it and send it
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: back to you if that, if it passes the process,
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: they will then ship it from there to the customer,
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: where honestly, it seems like there has been more issues
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: on condition issues coming from that end that I've seen
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: on Reddit than from person to person where eBay is
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: working on tightening up that, I think a little bit
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: in terms of making sure that the authenticators do a
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: good job of rewrapping the cards or not stealing them
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: in some cases, I think I've read about that. So
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: just note that that will be the process. If the
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: card is over two hundred and fifty dollars on eBay
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: and it's required now at this point, you can't get around.
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: It, yep. And they don't listen for advice. They do
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: still use card savers on raw cards. That's where they
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: run the issues, and the authentication is General PSA or
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: SGC or somebody else that they're actually partnering with that's
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: looking at these anyway, which is because of that, they
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: also offer it at times that a buyer can actually
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: upgrade and get the card graded when it goes authentication.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: It still takes like the seventeen months or whatever it
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: does with PSA. But there's a ton of opportunities in there,
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: and that also gives you a lot of protection as
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: a seller because they can't come back and say it
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: wasn't the card. It was like, it's beyond you at
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: that point. Once you get it to the authenticator and
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: it's authenticated, you are scotch free. You are protected. Nothing
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: comes back on you. It's between them and eBay if
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: something goes wrong from there, so there's a lot of protection.
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: I've sold many cards through the authentication process. It's very easy.
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: The only downfall is there's a little risk because anybody
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: that wants to cause ill will they can see the
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: shipping where labels of where it's going to and where
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: it's coming from, and it's a pretty clear call out
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: that these are expensive cards. So just just know that
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: if you run into issues. I've seen it before. It's
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: usually almost every post office. This is fantastic. But ever
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: once while there's a bad apple and people have issues
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: with one post office foot and you just got to
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: work around it.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: Yeah, then maybe probably the last thing any Baby haven't
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: touched on is like the vault, the PSA vault, which
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: I don't deal with. I've never dealt with, have you,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: Because like, I think that's a little bit more out
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: of the purview of kind of what we're talking about here,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: of kind of the every day to day, day to
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: day collector or your starter where I think once you're
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: starting to get into PSA vault stuff, you're you're you're
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: pretty far along and you're collecting and selling Jersey Journey
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: and also on higher end cards.
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: I'm a collector. I'm not necessarily in this all for
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: the profits. So if you're in it for the profit,
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: that's where you might use the vault and buy a
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: big card, leaving the vault, try to sell it again
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: at the right time. I want my card in my hand,
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: so it's getting shipped to me, it's sitting here. It
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: might be a big card, it might be a small card.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: It is going to be in my hand.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: YEP, I'm in the same boat that I don't have
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: any desire. I mean, maybe some of my bigger cards
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: might end up in a bank vault that I is
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: like down the street, but like never like somewhere way
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: off site that I can't get to. So I'm not
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: a vault guy. I think hopefully you were able to
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: tell that from listening to our podcast over this stretch
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: or any other stretches that that's not quite our game.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: So let's get into some of the other I would
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: call random internet spots where you can kind of sell cards.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: So probably in terms I'm probably gonna run this down
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: in terms of viability. Is about the way they're ranked.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: I would say number one you would have COMC, which
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: and then you'll actually have this with other spots and
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: you can find them on eBay. Is COOMC is essentially
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: like consignment service where you can list your cards and
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: be able to sell and track them through there. So
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: you'll find other consigners on eBay. That's one of the
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: c's and CMOC I think it's the last one.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: Check out checkout my Collectibles is what ce Oh it's no,
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: there's no consignment in there. Never mind, check out my collectibles.
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Generally in the hobby folks call it comm see. I
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: don't know why.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: It's just easy, but it's me. So that is another
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: big site that you'll see a lot of people selling through. Honestly,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: that's probably one of the better places to sell singles
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: of really really basic cards because people will put together
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: a bunch of them and it's just easy to list
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: and track and find on there. So if you are
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: in the game and want to move pennies on cards,
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: CMOC or COMMC might be the better route for you
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: than eBay, honestly, So something to dive into. The next
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: one I would say is Facebook Marketplace. I think most
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: people know what Facebook Marketplace is. It's likes Craigslist. It's
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: like the back pages now or not back pages, the
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: classifieds now. So you've got lots of different sellers, lots
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: of randomness involved, and just kind of the unroll pitfalls there. Honestly,
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: it's probably a better place to buy than sell because
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: it's just a mess on the cell side that like,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: it's littered with people who have wild valuations, wildly high
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: valuations on their cards, and you'll just get lost in
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: the overall environment I think selling there, but it is
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: certainly an avenue you have other social media's so like X,
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: Blue Sky, Instagram, mrcari, which is it works like a
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: social media But like I think in terms of those
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: setting up, especially if you're looking at X and Instagram,
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Blue Sky, there were a lot of sellers on X
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: and I think there still are. I'm not on X
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: really anymore. So the algorithms have not been kind to them.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: But there's the bigger ones are still doing quite well
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: on X Yeah, and so I mean, I hope some
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: of the more of them come over to Blue Sky,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: but you'll see them on Instagram too. But especially this
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: is where on x people will do like stack sales
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: and you'll be able to move a lot of lower
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: end stuff that way. Certainly at that point though, when
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: you're starting to get into those types of websites. Except
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: for Mercari, he's got a little bit more protections, but
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: any social media you've got no recourse in terms of
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: you're dealing with Internet weirdos. You're dealing with Internet strangers.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: You're sending cards and taking payments without really I mean,
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: you can do some verification, and you definitely should try
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: to like look at what their post history is and
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: kind of get a feel for who they are, but
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: you're never going to be one hundred percent certain and
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: not have any sort of insurance or other way to
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: recoup any losses the way you do with eBay, So
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: just keep those in that in mind. But it is
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: certainly another decent way to make money there. Reddit, I
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: would say, is in that same boat too. Reddit's a
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: little bit better because they actually have a rating tracker
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: that is run as a bot within Reddit, baseball cards
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: and the other baseball collectible sites or card sites where
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: you can actually leave reviews for people you've bought and
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: sold with. So there is a little bit more structure there,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: and I feel like there's more community too on Reddit,
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: but certainly you're still in the same boat. You'll go
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: on Reddit and it can't go more than a couple
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: weeks without somebody talking about a user that ghosted them
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: on a sale or didn't come through with the payment,
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: or somebody selling scam raffle tickets and stuff like that.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: So again, you're in the wild wild West of the Internet.
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: Just kind of proceed cautiously, but it is a spot
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: to sell. So what do you think about some of
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: those other random internet spots before we get into I
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: think we've got a few more apps that are a
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: little bit different flavor than these, because these are pretty
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: much straight like garage sale on the internet sort of feels.
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that the big thing here, I mean,
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: and I'll throw comm see or see them and see
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: a little out. They're more of a like you ship
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: everything to them and then there's a fee, and so
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: it's kind of like an eBay, but like I'm a
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: lazy eBay kind of thing.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: More faulty. It's like fault yeah, exactly.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: But almost everything else we're talking about the advantage of
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: them is the same as their disadvantages. They are unstructured marketplaces,
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: so you're not paying fees. You might be paying fees
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: from like a PayPal or Venmo or zell or something
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: like that. If you're if you're you know, getting the transaction,
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: and as a seller you have to be. You have
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: to understand that because unless you have a really great reputation,
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: people might not trust you and so they're gonna do
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: use the protection of those services. But you might have
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: a three percent fee versus a fifteen or twenty five
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: percent fee. And the other the other hard part is
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: all of those you know, Facebook and things work better
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: for lots and bigger groups of things or maybe some
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: bigger cards your social media ones like x blue Sky, Instagram,
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: even Reddit. You can do smaller cards there, but you
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: need a following. And I think that's that's the important
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: part there is that there's folks on there that sell
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: all the time, and they sell, you know, maybe two
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: or three times a week. They have hundreds and hundred
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: of people to buy from them, and they got schedules, yeah,
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: and set schedules, and that creates demand and that allows
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: them to sell. A lot of those folks are doing consignments.
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: They're taking it from somebody else and then they're selling
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: and they're taking ten percent and they're making an income
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: that way, and then they're taking the cards off of
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: somebody else's hands and their job. They've they've created a following.
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: If you don't have a huge following, and I've done
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: many sales myself on there, it can be hard. And
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: I have thousands of followers, thank you all. If you're
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: still fall out, you're following me out there. But you know,
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: the algorithms are rewarding the consistent posters of folks with
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: fifty thousand followers and things like that, and so your
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: listings get can disappear very quickly, and it's hard hard
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: to find them unless somebody's like actually following everything you post,
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: and you might have to post if you're on Twitter
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: trying to do kind of a sack til you may
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: have to post five six hundred cards to sell thirty
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: or forty cards and you have to work, and people
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: on there generally aren't doing high dollar cards. There are
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: some threads that people create that can can handle those.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: You can see more eyes when people repost them. But
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: people on those they are looking for deals. They're looking
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: for the one or two dollars. They're really true collectors
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. So there's some advantages sometimes. What
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: I like to do is I love to just throw
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: things out there, see if I get a bite, sell
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: one or two of like ten or twenty cards, and
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: then throw everything else on eBay because I can sneak
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: around not doing any fees, and then I can go
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: to the fees if I want to. So there's a
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: spot for these, But you don't try them all, I
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: think is the big thing. You can't do it all.
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: I've been very successful with using one or two and
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: then eBay as kind of my go tos.
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think eBay is still a good spot
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: to start, just to get a feel for everything, and
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: I think you'll start to understand the hobby and how
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: selling works with kind of like I mean, keep eBay
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: provides a little bit of like training wheels for you
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: before you go off into some of these random platforms
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: that I would not suggest that the starting beginning seller
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: start on these random platforms. That eBay will help you
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: out there, and even I guess this is one thing
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: we didn't touch on with eBay, is just starting off there.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Certainly it will be tough to get a little bit
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: of a footing. But once you list cards, sell a
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: few cards, show eBay that you deliver properly, people will
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: start purchasing more and more cards, especially as you get
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: positive feedback, and so especially if you're a lower feedback person,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: you might have to list some cards a little bit
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: below market to be able to get those sales greased.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: But I mean, if you're if you're sitting on a
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: decent card, it will move because there is That's the
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: nice thing about eBay having recourse for the buyers as well,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: that if there is a seller that pops up and
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: is nefarious with lower, lower feedback, that buyer knows that
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: they can go back to eBay and demand a refund
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: from eBay directly, and then eBay will pursue the seller.
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: So keep that in mind when you're doing kind of
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: starting eBay. The other option is the feedback ratings will
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: work if you're buying. They're the same that like people
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: unless they're click on your profile and go into it,
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: they can't. They just see the number for your feedback
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: on eBay. And so if you've been collecting and buying
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: on eBay, you've probably already got a decent feedback score.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: You probably don't even have to worry about starting from
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: scratch yep on a selling basis. So something to keep
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: in mind that if you've got to you know, honestly,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: once you get past like fifty, it starts becoming pretty
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: easy to start moving stuff on Eba.
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, But in those reviews, they're they're invaluable, so
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: you know you'll get a negative one here here there.
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: You know, work with eBay if if you do uh,
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: if it's unreasonable, they'll they'll remove it things like that.
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: But that that's that's your currency there for sure.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Yeah, don't you obviously love the the feedback ones that
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: are like delivered as promised, da dad. But it's like
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: one of those people that just can't give five stars
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: and anything, and so you like you get a ding
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: and you're like Eba, like.
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: Look I did it, I did it all? Like what
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: what what else can I do. This person's just grumpy
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: that the value went down, like well and trains it
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: or something like that, like I can't control the market.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: So okay, So another spot before we get into a
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: few others that are kind of grouped. Uh, you've been
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: using the collex app, which I hadn't I wasn't familiar with.
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: Let everybody know what the Collex app is, just from
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: a buying experience, because obviously you can go on the
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: other side and sell.
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so collects in the col l X, which makes
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: it sounds like collecting. Collects app is kind of a
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: It is a just think about it, like is eBay
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: only for cards? And it is a app that you
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: can download. They have a little bit lower fees than eBay.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: They're around like nine or ten percent of fees. There's
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: not listing fees or anything like that. You only have
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: fees if you chart if you sell. It's also a
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: way that you can actually track your collection and not
- 1:57:27Speaker 2: put for things for sale. You can actually take pictures
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: of your cards. It uses AI to try to tell
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: you what prior sales have been and try to help
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: you price your cards. It's using AI, so also be
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: a little careful there because it's not always the most accurate,
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: especially on a little bit rarer cards, but it's it's
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: a you know, it's a great other platform where people
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: sell there because they don't want to have all these
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: high fees, and especially when you get to those higher
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: dollar cards. You know, five, ten, fifteen percent is a
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: big deal on some of those cards. And so it's newer,
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: it's been out there for a while. You know. They
- 1:58:04Speaker 2: love to run little promotions because they're using AI taking
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: pictures of cards. That's how you list it. You actually
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: take a picture and it tries to populate everything for you,
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: so it goes pretty gus starn fast. But they love
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: to run promotions during like the NBA Finals or something
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: like that and say, hey, take a picture of Jalen
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: Brunson a Jalen Brunson card and we're gonnaive you everybody
- 1:58:21Speaker 2: that the first one hundred people to do it five
- 1:58:23Speaker 2: dollars credit on our app and you can go buy
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: things with it. Like they're still trying to get going.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: I've only sold a few cards on there. I've mostly
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: bought on there, but it's just another outlet to be
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: able to reach folks and there are some folks out
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: there that are anti eBay just because of what it
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: is in the fee structure, and so it's another up
- 1:58:43Speaker 2: and coming one, probably one of the bigger apps that's
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: trying to compete on that same methodology, but no auctions,
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: just all buy. Now you can make offers on things.
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: What's one of the cool things you can do there
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: that you can't do an eBay is you can actually
- 1:58:58Speaker 2: bundle cards and make offers and so if you and
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: that's where people actually get away with putting them one
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: or two dollars cards out there, it works a lot
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: better here because you can put two thousand cards, three
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: thousand cards, there's no listing fees, and somebody can come
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: to you and say, hey, I want these fifty cards,
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: and I'm going to offer you eighty percent or seventy
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: percent on this group of cards that I know you
- 1:59:20Speaker 2: will now shift together and you can actually make a
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: really good deal. There's a whole messaging platform, so it
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: does have some benefits to it relative to eBay. So
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: I've been on it for probably six months learning on it,
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: and I'd recommend it.
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: All right, Well, then we also have what are more
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: like streaming platforms, so This is where you're taking that
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: auction atmosphere for eBay and trying to put it into
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: a video format. You're talking whatnot, eBay Live, TikTok. There's
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: other streaming platforms where I think you're able to do this,
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: but I don't know if I'm hip enough to know them.
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: This is the type of stuff where we do shade
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: I think further away because if you you've listened to
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: this podcast, we're not big on the people. They're ripping
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: and streaming and selling spots in terms of breaking and
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: it's very very exploitative overall in terms of the money
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: they're making and the pressure that they're creating in it's
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: much more like a casino atmosphere on a lot of
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: these video streams and everything, And so I don't I mean,
- 2:00:26Speaker 1: you could go the route of selling that, but I
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: think that those spaces are very very filled in now
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: from what happened during the pandemic and moving people into
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: different platforms, and just I can't imagine trying to carve
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: out your own space there or feeling good about it.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: Maybe the tactics that would require you to carve out
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: the space and the people would force you to take
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: advantage of I think, and just maybe some of the
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: less noble ways of selling baseball cards probably are going
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: to go through those platforms a little bit more. Which
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: that's also why we don't encourage like going to buy there,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: because if you just watch a Whatnot stream and you
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: compare it to any of the prices on eBay, you
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: will see how much of a ripoff pretty much all
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: of them are. And I think on top of it, it
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: just kind of feels a lot of the stuff that
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: I don't feel great about where this hobby's going. So
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: I don't feel great about supporting abay Live or supporting
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: whatnot and some of these breakers out there, because I
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: want the hobby to be accessible for all people and
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: affordable and have the ability for people to get cool cards.
- 2:01:35Speaker 1: And the more that this persists and works directly, especially
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: with fanatics, the worse it is kind of making, I
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: think our hobby overall. So that is a rout to go.
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: Like I said, I don't know if I can endorse
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: it slash. I don't really have very much feedback because
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: it's not somewhere where I'm buying and selling what about.
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: You, Yeah, I mean, I've bought a little in those places.
- 2:01:59Speaker 2: Mainly what I have not done any selling. I do
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: know a few folks that have, and I think the
- 2:02:05Speaker 2: key there is you have to find a niche and
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: you have to be reputable, and you have to get
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: a following, and if you can do that, then that
- 2:02:13Speaker 2: this might be one of those few places where you
- 2:02:16Speaker 2: can actually do really well with dollar cards because you
- 2:02:20Speaker 2: can run through a lot of cards fast. You can
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: you know, get a few bucks one or two dollars
- 2:02:26Speaker 2: for these cards. It's kind of like trying to have
- 2:02:28Speaker 2: some a handful of people rifling through your dollar box.
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: And that's but it's a commitment. It is a commitment
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: because you have to kind of live stream for two
- 2:02:35Speaker 2: or three hours, get enough people in there, you have
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: to giveaways, like there's a lot of it that takes
- 2:02:39Speaker 2: to build up kind of a community there. So if
- 2:02:41Speaker 2: you're gonna do it, you have to be like two
- 2:02:42Speaker 2: feet in And so I'm not completely opposed to it.
- 2:02:46Speaker 2: There there is a lot of negative stigma out there.
- 2:02:48Speaker 2: If you do it right, I think you can be successful,
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: but I think it takes a lot of work. And
- 2:02:55Speaker 2: if you're really just trying to like buy and sell
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: to fund your hobby. It's probably not It's probably not
- 2:03:00Speaker 2: worth it for you to get out there because you
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: also have to be a personality. You have to be
- 2:03:04Speaker 2: talking for hours, you have to excite people, have to
- 2:03:08Speaker 2: engage like uh, it's it's kind of you have to
- 2:03:11Speaker 2: put you put on a performance to sell the product.
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: And that's it's a whole different ballgame. So not not
- 2:03:16Speaker 2: my recommended spot, but it has a spot in the hobby,
- 2:03:19Speaker 2: whether I.
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: Like or not. Yeah, And I think that is a
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: great call out that it's if you've got social media skills,
- 2:03:24Speaker 1: if you've got streaming skills and the background and feel
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: comfortable doing that, then I think that is a better route.
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: But again, probably not the best place to start. I'd
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: still try to to to make sure that I know
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: how to just do the ins and outs of selling
- 2:03:41Speaker 1: on eBay and just like being able to ship cards
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: and interact with people in the hobby and stuff like that,
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: because it is certainly different, I think, from just normal streaming,
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: and so it's that combination of the two of streaming
- 2:03:55Speaker 1: and selling cards, where yeah, if that sounds exciting to
- 2:03:58Speaker 1: you and that's your neck, maybe you can go that.
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: But I think most folks that's going to take more
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: of a special type of personality and a little bit
- 2:04:07Speaker 1: more of like a media star, sort of like ambition
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: to go that route. The next spot we have is consignment.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: This is stuff where I mean, maybe you do have
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: a crazy high end card. Maybe you found an old
- 2:04:20Speaker 1: relative they gave you that magic shoebox that had all
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: the nineteen fifty two tops cards in it, had had
- 2:04:26Speaker 1: some old pages, Satral pages and Jackie Robinson's in it.
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: That's when you start going to consignment. Once you're starting
- 2:04:32Speaker 1: to talk larger collections, cards that start crusting over five
- 2:04:37Speaker 1: thousand dollars, cards that are just unmovable through some of
- 2:04:42Speaker 1: these other platforms we've talked about because of either the
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: fees on eBay, the ability for you to find the
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: right knowledge, the ability for you to find the right market.
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: That's when you're going to start going to consignment and
- 2:04:57Speaker 1: auction houses. So I don't think that's probably where lots
- 2:05:01Speaker 1: of people end up, and it's usually somewhere where you
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: end up in the end life cycle of your collecting game,
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: when you've got tons of stuff to move and you've
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: got thousands of dollars of value that have accrued and
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: you've got some big hitters, especially on the vintage side,
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: where you need that repudle name and resource behind you.
- 2:05:21Speaker 1: That's when you start going to consigners. There's all sorts
- 2:05:24Speaker 1: of variations in terms of high end, lower end, local, national, global,
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: So that's I think an entirely different discussion, but I
- 2:05:37Speaker 1: thought i'd throw it out there because that is going
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: to be a route for some folks, especially like I said,
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: if you're new, but you're starting off from a spot
- 2:05:44Speaker 1: where you got a whole boatload of vintage stuff from
- 2:05:46Speaker 1: an older relative or something, that's going to be your
- 2:05:49Speaker 1: best route to figure out how to move those cards
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: without the hassle of ebays and authentications and what can
- 2:05:58Speaker 1: come up with vintage cards.
- 2:06:00Speaker 2: Yeah, consignment has a place in it. To your point,
- 2:06:04Speaker 2: it's really when you have stuff that needs eyes and
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: you need somebody that's gonna be reliable, so because a
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: lot of those are gonna have to go auction, uh
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: to actually kind of drive the value, and that's where
- 2:06:12Speaker 2: you want somebody that has a following, that has marketing
- 2:06:17Speaker 2: skills and things like that that's gonna get enough eyes
- 2:06:19Speaker 2: on it to drive it. That's where the consignment comes
- 2:06:22Speaker 2: in and it's value, but you're gonna pay for it.
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: You're gonna pay more fee ease because somebody else has
- 2:06:27Speaker 2: to get involved to play. So there's there's definitely a
- 2:06:30Speaker 2: spot for it. I've never done consignment. I'd much rather
- 2:06:34Speaker 2: put in the work and in sell myself. But there's
- 2:06:36Speaker 2: a spot out there, to your point of pinal situation.
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, if you're looking for a lower
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: end consignment, you can find it on eBay pretty reasonably.
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: Reasonably Like one that I think about, and I mean
- 2:06:48Speaker 1: I buy a lots of cards from them too, is
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: like DC Sports eighty seven. It's a big player on eBay.
- 2:06:53Speaker 1: If you just go through eBay listings, you'll find some
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: people that do some of these consignment things and you
- 2:06:58Speaker 1: can just reach out to them and try to figure
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: out and negotiate a path forward. Also, you can find
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: consignments on comm c CMOC. There's people that do consignments
- 2:07:09Speaker 1: through that, So there's different avenues to find smaller market
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: consignment people if you need a little bit of help.
- 2:07:16Speaker 1: But honestly, that kind of takes the one out of
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: it too in terms of moving her.
- 2:07:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there's nothing better than see a notification on your
- 2:07:22Speaker 2: phone that you sold something right, and that's just a
- 2:07:26Speaker 2: thrill in itself to get that notification say yeah, I
- 2:07:29Speaker 2: made this, sill, I made this happen, Which.
- 2:07:32Speaker 1: Brings us to our last spot to kind of talk
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: about how to sell, which is irl in real life
- 2:07:38Speaker 1: at card shows yourself, getting that table, getting that booth
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: set up. Maybe it's something as big as the National
- 2:07:45Speaker 1: but I'm just also talking the little shows that you
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: see listed on flyers and are very kind of small time.
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: Usually they'll be in like Facebook groups or you There
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: actually still are ones that are listed in Beckett Maggot
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: and on Beckett Magazine, like the website, and you'll find
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: it on other spots in terms of just like other
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: small forums and things online. I would always encourage people
- 2:08:11Speaker 1: to make sure you visit the show once before you
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: go and sell, just so you can kind of get
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: a vibe for what the show is, Understand who the
- 2:08:18Speaker 1: players are, understand what the kind of like types of
- 2:08:22Speaker 1: cards people are moving. You don't want to be the
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: baseball guy at the Pokemon show, you know what I mean,
- 2:08:26Speaker 1: And so things like that just kind of get a
- 2:08:29Speaker 1: feel of what's that at that show, because it's going
- 2:08:32Speaker 1: to be like a joint garage sales slash flea market
- 2:08:36Speaker 1: kind of feel. And I also think it's not a
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: spot to start for selling. But I think if you
- 2:08:42Speaker 1: feel like you're moving cards on eBay pretty good, you're
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: getting the handle of moving it there, and you want
- 2:08:47Speaker 1: to go up to the next level. I think card
- 2:08:51Speaker 1: shows are probably the best place to do it, because,
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: as we were talking about in the intro, you can
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: work in cash, you can work in trade value, you
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: can work person a person, you can see the cards live.
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: You can just be able to do a lot of
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: different negotiation tactics when you're in person that make it
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: much easier when you're face to face with somebody and
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: have the physical copies of everything in front of you
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: than it is over the internet. So with that, you
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: know you've gotta take care in terms of setting up
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: your table. You can also go to card shows and
- 2:09:23Speaker 1: take your own cards to trade with dealers there. That's
- 2:09:26Speaker 1: a little bit less fruitful because you're also gonna need
- 2:09:28Speaker 1: to You're gonna need to bring movable cards, which are
- 2:09:32Speaker 1: going to be you know, Judge Otani, cool rare cards,
- 2:09:37Speaker 1: other collectible like inserts like home fields. Maybe some of
- 2:09:42Speaker 1: these diamond dusts or whatever where you know people are
- 2:09:45Speaker 1: trying to put together sets, but you've got a rare
- 2:09:48Speaker 1: portion of that set or local market. I'm in Chicago,
- 2:09:52Speaker 1: White Sox cards, Chicago Cubs cards move at every show
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: that I'm at. It's the opt I collect lots of
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: Cardinals cards, as you know, and the show that we've
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: done in Schomberg, the Cardinals cards don't move great. So
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: just know your local market and kind of be able
- 2:10:07Speaker 1: to line everything up accordingly, both on setting up your
- 2:10:11Speaker 1: own table and visiting a card show with whatever cards
- 2:10:15Speaker 1: you want to move. What other pieces of advices would
- 2:10:18Speaker 1: you have for people as they're going to card shows
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: and either putting up their own table or just bringing
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: a backpack full of their own cards to sell to dealers.
- 2:10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so starting with bringing your own cards to sell
- 2:10:30Speaker 2: to dealers. If you're selling to dealers, you have to
- 2:10:32Speaker 2: expect that you're not that they need a margin, So
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: you're probably getting you know, eighty percent seventy percent of
- 2:10:38Speaker 2: the value of the cards. Now you think about it,
- 2:10:40Speaker 2: that they're going to try to sell it their show,
- 2:10:43Speaker 2: you might actually be okay. Reles with the eBay fees
- 2:10:46Speaker 2: and things like that. I've found the most success. And
- 2:10:50Speaker 2: this is not for everybody, but of usually bringing like
- 2:10:53Speaker 2: five or less cards like the ones that you like.
- 2:10:55Speaker 2: I want to move these and using them in the
- 2:10:59Speaker 2: right spots for not just approaching everybody, but like, hey,
- 2:11:03Speaker 2: I'm going to make a deal to this table. I
- 2:11:04Speaker 2: see like there's a decenter cards I'm interested in. Say, hey,
- 2:11:07Speaker 2: do you take trades? I've got these things. They might
- 2:11:10Speaker 2: be willing to make a deal because they want to
- 2:11:11Speaker 2: get rid of some of the stuff they have. Maybe,
- 2:11:13Speaker 2: and you can't bring like obscure things. They have to
- 2:11:17Speaker 2: be attractive. It has to be big names. It has
- 2:11:20Speaker 2: to be things like that. I actually was at a
- 2:11:22Speaker 2: card show this weekend and digging through at the table,
- 2:11:26Speaker 2: and I knew the dealer, so that you gotta be
- 2:11:27Speaker 2: careful with what you do, but I knew the dealer
- 2:11:30Speaker 2: was digging through next to somebody. He was asking about
- 2:11:33Speaker 2: certain cards, and he said what he's kind of looking for,
- 2:11:37Speaker 2: And he just so happened to say, I'm looking for
- 2:11:39Speaker 2: kind of like some more inserts of like Hall of
- 2:11:42Speaker 2: Fame kind of players, like bigger players like that. I
- 2:11:44Speaker 2: pull out a King Griffy Junior slab from my bag
- 2:11:47Speaker 2: and I'm like, hey, interesting, and I'm like, I'm trying
- 2:11:49Speaker 2: to get rid of this. It's it doesn't fit my collection.
- 2:11:51Speaker 2: We made a deal right at that guy's table. Then
- 2:11:53Speaker 2: I went bot if you get cards from that guy anyway,
- 2:11:56Speaker 2: because you know you they're they're trying to make something too.
- 2:11:59Speaker 2: But if you trig it like hundreds of cards, dealers
- 2:12:02Speaker 2: don't have the time to look through it all unless
- 2:12:04Speaker 2: they're like massive, big cards they want they really want
- 2:12:07Speaker 2: to bring in. So on the on the other side
- 2:12:09Speaker 2: of it, setting up as a dealer, again, you don't
- 2:12:12Speaker 2: have fees. You don't have those things. You do have
- 2:12:13Speaker 2: a table fee, so usually thirty five to forty five
- 2:12:16Speaker 2: fifty dollars depend on the show. Big shows, we're talking
- 2:12:18Speaker 2: one hundred and two hundred dollars to get your table
- 2:12:21Speaker 2: National something more that even But you need to really
- 2:12:27Speaker 2: think through what you're trying to do. I like your
- 2:12:29Speaker 2: advice of go to card the show first, understand what's
- 2:12:32Speaker 2: selling their understand kind of the atmosphere of it, what
- 2:12:34Speaker 2: you need to bring, and you have to You can't
- 2:12:37Speaker 2: just go and have thirty cards. You can't go and
- 2:12:40Speaker 2: have fifty cards. You need to show up with hundreds,
- 2:12:42Speaker 2: if not thousands of cards to really make it work,
- 2:12:45Speaker 2: because you have to attract people to your table. So
- 2:12:48Speaker 2: you have to have some high end stuff. You have
- 2:12:50Speaker 2: to have some medium and stuff. You have some rare stuff,
- 2:12:52Speaker 2: you have some of some big names. You have to
- 2:12:54Speaker 2: have a dollar box. So you have to have those
- 2:12:56Speaker 2: kind of things that are really going to draw people
- 2:12:58Speaker 2: in because what tends to happen at card shows is
- 2:13:02Speaker 2: the folks that have like an eclectic mix, really good
- 2:13:06Speaker 2: dollar boxes where the people can find some deals or
- 2:13:08Speaker 2: some unique stuff. Then people sit down and start to
- 2:13:11Speaker 2: make a stack of things and try to kind of
- 2:13:13Speaker 2: make a deal. You have to be willing to negotiate
- 2:13:16Speaker 2: if you sit there and you have high prices. And
- 2:13:20Speaker 2: I see this all the time, and there's some of
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: the same dealers I see at every card show. They
- 2:13:25Speaker 2: have like five tables long. And I saw this with
- 2:13:29Speaker 2: a guy this weekend and had a full glass case
- 2:13:33Speaker 2: of Otani bas cards and it said five dollars firm each.
- 2:13:38Speaker 2: The guy was making no sales because he had overpriced
- 2:13:41Speaker 2: everything and to even look at anything, you had to
- 2:13:45Speaker 2: have them open a case to get into it. Like
- 2:13:47Speaker 2: it just wasn't there. You see these tactics where people say, hey,
- 2:13:50Speaker 2: everything's fifty percent off and you go look at the price,
- 2:13:52Speaker 2: and this is like, hey, here's a nobody rookie card
- 2:13:56Speaker 2: from five years ago that I've got. Put twenty dollars
- 2:13:59Speaker 2: on it so I can try to make you feel
- 2:14:00Speaker 2: like you're get a good deal at ten bucks worth
- 2:14:02Speaker 2: two dollars like, or they put it in a one
- 2:14:04Speaker 2: touch to make like, don't be that guy, don't overprice.
- 2:14:07Speaker 2: Know that you're gonna have to make deals and you
- 2:14:11Speaker 2: have to attract people with having interesting inventory. And I
- 2:14:15Speaker 2: know I've done this when I sold with you and
- 2:14:17Speaker 2: we've talked about this podcast. How I like to sell
- 2:14:19Speaker 2: from the Japanese market. That's something unique, that's something different,
- 2:14:23Speaker 2: and it those things make the rounds at the card
- 2:14:25Speaker 2: show and be like, hey, did you see this card
- 2:14:27Speaker 2: over there? Things like that. You have to have something different,
- 2:14:30Speaker 2: give cards away to kids, you know, be willing to
- 2:14:34Speaker 2: make a few deals to give on one thing so
- 2:14:37Speaker 2: somebody's gonna buy something else. You have to be willing
- 2:14:40Speaker 2: to do those things. Also, just be nice, be a
- 2:14:43Speaker 2: person like it's I've seen I see it so many
- 2:14:46Speaker 2: times on on social media and threads like that that says,
- 2:14:50Speaker 2: if you don't say high to me within their first
- 2:14:52Speaker 2: like five minutes of meeting at your table, I'm just
- 2:14:54Speaker 2: gonna leave. Like I'm like, I'm here looking through your
- 2:14:57Speaker 2: stuff to purchase you. At least you can do is
- 2:14:59Speaker 2: like give me a little way, put a little sign up,
- 2:15:01Speaker 2: says hey, I have social anxiety. I don't want to
- 2:15:02Speaker 2: talk to anybody, but ask questions like I don't care
- 2:15:05Speaker 2: what it is. Be personable, because guess what tables. I
- 2:15:08Speaker 2: always go back to the one that got the good
- 2:15:10Speaker 2: guy who has a story and is like, hey, I
- 2:15:12Speaker 2: got I want to show you a card. I went
- 2:15:14Speaker 2: to this card show last weekend. I walk in the
- 2:15:17Speaker 2: guy I know that was kind of set up there.
- 2:15:19Speaker 2: He saw me. He goes, hey, I got three cards
- 2:15:20Speaker 2: for you, and he had opened the series two and
- 2:15:23Speaker 2: he had pulled he had a few of the the
- 2:15:25Speaker 2: glove work inserts of the Cardinals and he's he's like, here,
- 2:15:29Speaker 2: I got these free you, and like what do you want?
- 2:15:30Speaker 2: It's like, no, I just I got them for you,
- 2:15:31Speaker 2: Like I pulled him. I knew you'd want them, and
- 2:15:34Speaker 2: here you go like you have. Those are the kind
- 2:15:37Speaker 2: of folks that make tons of sales because I went
- 2:15:39Speaker 2: and dug through his stuff and bought something I didn't
- 2:15:42Speaker 2: need to, but I bought something from him just because
- 2:15:45Speaker 2: he was a good guy.
- 2:15:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I think that's a big key to
- 2:15:49Speaker 1: working card shows is just knowing the community that you're in,
- 2:15:52Speaker 1: because you're gonna have people that come through all the time,
- 2:15:56Speaker 1: and you're gonna start figuring out what cards and teams
- 2:15:59Speaker 1: they're looking for, and you can start setting them aside.
- 2:16:02Speaker 1: You know what sets they're chasing for. So that's actually
- 2:16:05Speaker 1: it becomes a better way sometimes to move some of
- 2:16:07Speaker 1: those lower dollar inserts because you always, honestly, there's always
- 2:16:10Speaker 1: everybody's putting together sets a flagship and so that's just
- 2:16:15Speaker 1: once you get a hold of that in a feel
- 2:16:18Speaker 1: for that after showing at a card show for a
- 2:16:20Speaker 1: couple months, then the sales become a little bit easier
- 2:16:24Speaker 1: to find the bottom line. A couple of other things
- 2:16:26Speaker 1: I was thinking about as you were explaining some of
- 2:16:30Speaker 1: your experiences were one on your pricing, Do keep in
- 2:16:33Speaker 1: mind that, like you can go a little bit higher
- 2:16:37Speaker 1: than the straight eBay comp because one there's no sales
- 2:16:40Speaker 1: tax in a card show. Two it's right there they
- 2:16:44Speaker 1: don't have to worry about Yeah, there's no shipping. They
- 2:16:46Speaker 1: don't have to wait a couple of days for it
- 2:16:48Speaker 1: to show up at the door. So I mean, because
- 2:16:51Speaker 1: of that, I'll maybe go like a little bit higher
- 2:16:54Speaker 1: than it is on eBay. But like, if somebody gives
- 2:16:56Speaker 1: me the comp from eBay as the competitive on that card,
- 2:17:01Speaker 1: I take it. You know, so you're not going to
- 2:17:03Speaker 1: scare people away if you're just a tick above what
- 2:17:07Speaker 1: the comps are on eBay. That is certainly, try to
- 2:17:11Speaker 1: price everything the way you the best you can. Stickers,
- 2:17:15Speaker 1: color coding stickers will help you a lot to be
- 2:17:17Speaker 1: able to do that, to be able to either bucket
- 2:17:19Speaker 1: things or if you know that you've got a lot
- 2:17:22Speaker 1: of stuff that's like five dollars, under throw it all
- 2:17:25Speaker 1: in one box and just tell people to make a
- 2:17:28Speaker 1: stack and you know you can gauge the value from there.
- 2:17:32Speaker 1: So it's a lot more interactive. It is certainly a
- 2:17:36Speaker 1: lot more work to label everything and get everything going,
- 2:17:39Speaker 1: but that's also going to help you make sales, because
- 2:17:42Speaker 1: the worst is walking up to the table with no
- 2:17:44Speaker 1: stickers on it, and you've got to ask on every
- 2:17:46Speaker 1: card you're interested in, you have no sense of what
- 2:17:49Speaker 1: the guy wants, and so if you've got those prices,
- 2:17:53Speaker 1: you at least start with something so that people can
- 2:17:55Speaker 1: window shop. I will also say window shopping is pretty important.
- 2:17:59Speaker 1: So when you're in the situations where you have a table, honestly,
- 2:18:04Speaker 1: I find the ones that do the best too, they
- 2:18:07Speaker 1: usually have part of their PC displayed on the table
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: and it might have prices on it. This is where
- 2:18:14Speaker 1: I'm okay with it not having prices on it, because
- 2:18:17Speaker 1: they are more, they are rarer cards, they're higher in cards,
- 2:18:21Speaker 1: and if they're in their PC, it is a card show,
- 2:18:25Speaker 1: so they're showing off their cards. But that's how you
- 2:18:27Speaker 1: attract eyeballs. And honestly, you've also got to be willing
- 2:18:31Speaker 1: and ready for offers on some of your PC cards
- 2:18:35Speaker 1: if you do go that route that I think when
- 2:18:37Speaker 1: you're going into a card show situation, you've got to
- 2:18:40Speaker 1: be pretty clear eyed in terms of what you want,
- 2:18:43Speaker 1: what you want your PC to be, what you're trying
- 2:18:46Speaker 1: to build towards, what your goals and the hobby are.
- 2:18:49Speaker 1: Because if you show up with a table and it's
- 2:18:51Speaker 1: just kind of all over the place, So you show
- 2:18:53Speaker 1: up with part of your PC and you don't want
- 2:18:55Speaker 1: to sell any of it or trade any of it,
- 2:18:58Speaker 1: and you're going to have a hard line. I think
- 2:19:00Speaker 1: it's gonna make things a lot more difficult. And also
- 2:19:03Speaker 1: you're gonna have to make those decisions on the fly
- 2:19:06Speaker 1: while in bartering situations with folks. So yeah, just kind
- 2:19:10Speaker 1: of be prepared for a card show if you're going
- 2:19:14Speaker 1: into it and trying to make sure that people are
- 2:19:17Speaker 1: looking at your table and knowing that you need to
- 2:19:21Speaker 1: make some tough decisions.
- 2:19:22Speaker 2: Possibly, Yeah, I like a few things on a reiterate there.
- 2:19:25Speaker 2: Price your cards, absolutely, price youre cards. Don't expect that
- 2:19:29Speaker 2: you're gonna have internet. I don't know how many places
- 2:19:31Speaker 2: I've been to that, like you don't have internet because
- 2:19:34Speaker 2: you're in like this massive like dead zone of a
- 2:19:36Speaker 2: hotel or something like that. It never works, and you're
- 2:19:40Speaker 2: like trying to look compa card like know your stuff.
- 2:19:44Speaker 2: It's okay to have deals, it's okay to let people win,
- 2:19:46Speaker 2: Like that's where you'll get more traffic. And I like
- 2:19:49Speaker 2: your point of like you can show off your collection.
- 2:19:51Speaker 2: I know a ton of folks that bring like their
- 2:19:54Speaker 2: collection with or like they're big cards with And I'll
- 2:19:57Speaker 2: go up to a table as a buyer, and it'll
- 2:19:59Speaker 2: be like, hey, I want to show you something because
- 2:20:00Speaker 2: they look at what you're you're looking at so they
- 2:20:02Speaker 2: know you're a collect this team or this type of thing.
- 2:20:04Speaker 2: And and you know, I've had I've had dealers that
- 2:20:09Speaker 2: like would buy a card somewhere else through a collections
- 2:20:12Speaker 2: like that and hold on to it until they saw me,
- 2:20:14Speaker 2: and he goes, I know it's bad because like I've
- 2:20:17Speaker 2: got those offering me Jack Flaherty cards, so this is
- 2:20:20Speaker 2: a card collection issue. But like they'll hold things for
- 2:20:24Speaker 2: you and be like, hey, I've got this, I got
- 2:20:26Speaker 2: a great deal, and I'm going to pass it through
- 2:20:27Speaker 2: to you. I know you'll buy it, and I'll give
- 2:20:29Speaker 2: you a way better deal than you get anywhere else.
- 2:20:32Speaker 2: Like be that kind of person, and and don't feel
- 2:20:35Speaker 2: bad about helping somebody Like know your stuff, like know
- 2:20:39Speaker 2: what you have, but if somebody's out there looking, it's like,
- 2:20:42Speaker 2: what are you looking for? What can I help you find?
- 2:20:43Speaker 2: Like dig through with them, Like there's all kinds of
- 2:20:45Speaker 2: ways to make those relationships. So card shows are fantastic,
- 2:20:49Speaker 2: some of the best fun you'll have buying and selling.
- 2:20:52Speaker 1: Yes, I totally agree, Okay, I think that's going to
- 2:20:55Speaker 1: wrap up our discussion. It has gone much longer than
- 2:20:58Speaker 1: I anticipate because we're having such a good time chatting.
- 2:21:00Speaker 2: So I think it was almost a comprehensive Maybe not incomprehensive,
- 2:21:03Speaker 2: but it was.
- 2:21:04Speaker 1: It was close. Yeah, I mean, I think certainly for
- 2:21:07Speaker 1: one oh one. I mean maybe we've got some two
- 2:21:10Speaker 1: to oh one course stuff that we got to get
- 2:21:12Speaker 1: into in the future. But certainly, if there's something that
- 2:21:15Speaker 1: we missed and you think was a is a big
- 2:21:18Speaker 1: one oh one item or hurdle that you know we
