- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. We are so glad to be here with you again. Lucas: Today we are stepping away from the doctor's office and the gym. Luna: Yes. We are going to the bathroom counter. Or maybe a pharmacy shelf. Lucas: Exactly. We are learning how to talk about skin care in Dutch. Luna: This feels very useful. I always forget what to say when I want a new face wash. Lucas: It starts with describing your skin type. The most common one is dry skin. Luna: Oh, yes. I know that feeling well in the winter. Lucas: To say 'my skin is dry', you say: mijn huid is droog. Luna: Mijn huid is droog. Let me try that. Lucas: My huid is droog. Perfect. Now let's try it again together. Luna: Mijn huid is droog. It sounds quite serious, doesn't it? Lucas: It is just factual. My skin is dry. Very clear. Luna: Right. So if I go to a shop, I can tell them my skin type first. Lucas: Yes. Then you can ask for a product. A cream is very common. Luna: So, 'I am looking for a cream'? Lucas: Exactly. Ik zoek een crème. Luna: Ik zoek een crème. Okay. I like the sound of that word. Lucas: Crème. In Dutch, it is pronounced with a soft breath at the end. Luna: Ik zoek een crème. I think I got it. Lucas: You did. Let's put those two phrases together now. Luna: Mijn huid is droog. Ik zoek een crème. Lucas: That flows very nicely. Dry skin. I am looking for a cream. Luna: It feels like a complete sentence for shopping. Lucas: Now, let's add a little more detail. Sometimes our skin is sensitive. Luna: Oh, yes. Sensitive skin is important to mention sometimes. Lucas: To ask 'Do you have something for sensitive skin?', you say: Luna: Heeft u iets voor gevoelige huid? Lucas: Yes. Hebt u iets voor gevoelige huid? Or Heeft u iets voor gevoelige huid? Luna: Heeft u iets voor gevoelige huid. That is a mouthful but very polite. Lucas: It is very polite. And very specific. The shop assistant will appreciate it. Luna: Heeft u iets voor gevoelige huid. I will remember that one. Lucas: Let's practice the whole mini-scenario. Start with the skin type. Luna: Mijn huid is droog. Ik zoek een crème. Heeft u iets voor gevoelige huid? Lucas: Wow. You are speaking Dutch like a pro already. Luna: Really? I feel like I am actually asking for help now. Lucas: You are. And there is one more thing you might want to know. Luna: What is that? How to pay? Lucas: No, how to understand the difference between products. Like lotion versus cream. Luna: Oh, that is confusing. What is the difference? Lucas: To ask 'What is the difference between lotion and cream?', say: Luna: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème? Lucas: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème. Excellent pronunciation. Luna: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème. It helps me decide what to buy. Lucas: It does. Lotion is lighter. Cream is thicker. Both are good. Luna: I prefer cream usually. But lotion is nice in summer. Lucas: Let's repeat that question a few times to lock it in. Luna: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème. Lucas: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème. Luna: Wat is het verschil tussen lotion en crème. Lucas: Perfect. One last phrase before we wrap up. Testing products. Luna: Oh, I love testing products. Especially if they smell nice. Lucas: To say 'I want to try a sample', you say: Luna: Ik wil een monster proberen. Lucas: Ik wil een monster proberen. Monster means sample or test here. Luna: Ik wil een monster proberen. I hope they have samples today. Lucas: They usually do. It is a good way to check if it works for you. Luna: Ik wil een monster proberen. I feel very prepared now. Lucas: You really are. We covered skin type, creams, sensitivity, differences, and samples. Luna: That was a lot of good information. Thank you, Lucas. Lucas: Thank you for listening.
