- 0:04Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:11Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning and welcome
- 0:14Speaker 1: to the show. Last, well, 1.5 weeks of April. Can
- 0:18Speaker 1: you believe it? It's gonna be May. I know that
- 0:21Speaker 1: joke has lasted for too long. Decades. If you know,
- 0:24Speaker 1: you know. Top is going to kick us off here
- 0:26Speaker 1: with Desperado, his latest track. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one
- 0:29Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It's Tyler with Zara Larson. She did it again right
- 0:37Speaker 1: here on 987. I feel like Zara Larson is having
- 0:39Speaker 1: a major comeback right now. Not that she ever faded
- 0:42Speaker 1: away or anything, but you know, she's, she had a
- 0:45Speaker 1: moment a few years ago where she released a lot
- 0:47Speaker 1: of singles, right, a lot of songs. Won't be too
- 0:50Speaker 1: long before she gets called into Coachella, maybe. Yeah, and
- 0:53Speaker 1: then all of a sudden during, was it the Grammys,
- 0:55Speaker 1: I think she, she blew everyone away with her vocals.
- 0:59Speaker 1: She looked fit, you know, she looked like she was.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Taking care of herself, so very happy for her if
- 1:03Speaker 1: she makes a massive comeback to the music scene. So
- 1:05Speaker 1: on that topic of Coachella, how happy are we for
- 1:08Speaker 1: Billie Eilish? Oh yes. I mean, she wasn't performing, but
- 1:12Speaker 1: she was partying with Hailey Bieber to Justin Bieber's Weekendwo set.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So cute. And then the one less lonely girl moment
- 1:19Speaker 1: which has gone viral now. I feel as if 13-year-old
- 1:22Speaker 1: Billie Eilish is smiling somewhere. Yeah, yeah, that, that probably
- 1:26Speaker 1: healed her inner child somewhere. But also fans.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You were right about the speculation of Sabrina Carpenter's set. So, wow, fantastic,
- 1:34Speaker 1: fantastic show. So I think all the highlights are available
- 1:36Speaker 1: for you on YouTube, if not on TikTok. And in
- 1:38Speaker 1: the world of sports right now, I'm gonna confess something.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm multitasking as we speak. I'm watching a WrestleMania, and
- 1:45Speaker 1: they're kicking off in one of the biggest matchess matches ever.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Brock Lesnar and Obafemi. Don't, don't make fun. It's the
- 1:53Speaker 1: morning matches. I also work in the morning.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Where's the logic in that? It's been a while since
- 2:03Speaker 1: we've had a DJ led music festival in Singapore. I mean,
- 2:06Speaker 1: can you name the last one?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Actually, no, right? It's been way too long. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 1: things like Ultra Music Festival have exited Singapore a long
- 2:14Speaker 1: time ago, right? And this was, I think, closest to
- 2:17Speaker 1: what we know of Ultra Music Festival back then because
- 2:20Speaker 1: it starts in the day and then it stops at
- 2:22Speaker 1: about like 10:30 p.m. or so.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And then you, you find a lot of people looking
- 2:27Speaker 1: quite lost after like, do we go out or do
- 2:29Speaker 1: we go home? I'm in Singapore. I know. I would
- 2:35Speaker 1: love to share a little bit more about that in
- 2:37Speaker 1: case you're tuning in and you've never attended a DJ
- 2:40Speaker 1: music festival. When I say DJ,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I mean, not like, um, singers. It's just pure DJs,
- 2:47Speaker 1: the whole set. Yeah. So let's summarizes on TikTok, I'm
- 2:52Speaker 1: seeing two different sides and two different stories. I completely understand. OK,
- 2:55Speaker 1: so when I posted about going to a music festival
- 2:58Speaker 1: on Saturday, I had two reactions. First was, wow, it's
- 3:03Speaker 1: been a long time since we've seen any sort of
- 3:05Speaker 1: DJ music festival in Singapore. Second response was, I didn't
- 3:09Speaker 1: even know that this was happening.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So I think um for what it was worth, there
- 3:14Speaker 1: wasn't that much promotion about it. Palm Tree Music Festival. Um,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the crowd was decent though, it was pretty full and
- 3:21Speaker 1: the mosh pit area was full as well. I saw
- 3:24Speaker 1: Palm Tree Music Festival were the Instagram ads. Oh yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 1: When I was scrolling once in a while I see
- 3:30Speaker 1: there's a huge like summit but it was very subtle,
- 3:33Speaker 1: like nobody really even, I, I think they didn't push
- 3:36Speaker 1: it that hard.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Um, also because I guess the names Lasso and John Smith,
- 3:40Speaker 1: it sells itself already, right? But also we've got our
- 3:43Speaker 1: own local DJs, you know, Jade Rasi was there too,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and there were other, some other supporting DJs as well.
- 3:49Speaker 1: They were really good. Credit to Marlo, yes, Marlo as well,
- 3:52Speaker 1: who was there. So, um, the only thing I would
- 3:55Speaker 1: say that did not quite work and will not work
- 3:58Speaker 1: for Singapore is the heat, OK.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You know what I mean, right, with the daytime festival, um,
- 4:04Speaker 1: but of course, we're grateful that it didn't rain, so
- 4:07Speaker 1: that was a relief. And actually when we got in,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it was pretty nice. Like it was cloudy, you know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: like the sun wasn't so crazy. So I think we
- 4:15Speaker 1: appreciated that. It's just the humidity is something we cannot
- 4:17Speaker 1: change in Singapore. So that's one side of the story
- 4:20Speaker 1: on TikTok though, yesterday I was having a field day
- 4:22Speaker 1: scrolling and seeing people.
- 4:24Speaker 1: People post their reviews. People actually bought those general admission tickets.
- 4:28Speaker 1: They say, well, the DJ sets were great, the queue
- 4:31Speaker 1: for the drinks, it was very long. It was terrible.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So I, I did hear about that and also the
- 4:36Speaker 1: food queue, like the, yeah, to get, to get food.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You know, I didn't eat in the end because at
- 4:41Speaker 1: the festival, at least, I ate after the festival because
- 4:44Speaker 1: I did have some friends warned me that the queue
- 4:46Speaker 1: for the food is very, very long.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so you might not want to go there if
- 4:50Speaker 1: you don't want to miss the set. So I didn't go.
- 4:52Speaker 1: A couple of my friends who were actually missed because
- 4:54Speaker 1: they spent 45 minutes queuing for drinks. You know what
- 4:58Speaker 1: I say, just go for the set. Forget the drinks.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Forget about it. Like, really, really. Honestly, in my opinion,
- 5:04Speaker 1: if the music is that good and you don't, and,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and you love music, unpopular opinion, you don't necessarily need drinks.
- 5:12Speaker 1: If you love the music that much. I do a
- 5:16Speaker 1: little bit of a beverage. So, here's the thing, right,
- 5:18Speaker 1: with any festival, unfortunately here in Singapore, there's gonna be
- 5:23Speaker 1: a swarm of people. They're all gonna want to get
- 5:26Speaker 1: drinks at the same time, right? Um, I think what
- 5:28Speaker 1: we can also learn as festivalgoers or maybe a lot
- 5:31Speaker 1: of them haven't been for a festival in a while,
- 5:33Speaker 1: maybe consider pre-drinking before you go there with your friends,
- 5:36Speaker 1: hang out with your friends, go pre-drink.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Um, and then when you get there, you got to
- 5:40Speaker 1: be strategic about it. If you see the queue is
- 5:41Speaker 1: too long, forget it. Just go, go. You're paying to
- 5:44Speaker 1: watch A Leo and John Summit. Don't go and wait
- 5:47Speaker 1: for the drink. And disclaimer, of course, follow the rules,
- 5:49Speaker 1: make sure you're legal and don't binge. I wonder what's
- 5:52Speaker 1: the next outdoor festival-ish setting here in Singapore. Maybe Formula One.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I have to say I, I really enjoyed myself, like the,
- 5:59Speaker 1: you know, the queues aside, right, um, I, I thought
- 6:03Speaker 1: that it brought me back.
- 6:04Speaker 1: To my poly days because, you know, the 202015, 2016 time, right?
- 6:10Speaker 1: It was a time where I feel it was peak
- 6:12Speaker 1: music festival season. There were so many music festivals, indie
- 6:15Speaker 1: music festivals, you get Laneway, you Ultra Music Festival, all
- 6:18Speaker 1: kinds of festivals in Singapore. So that was what I
- 6:21Speaker 1: grew up with. It was, it was a bit of
- 6:23Speaker 1: a blast from the past. So on that note about
- 6:25Speaker 1: Formula One, guys, it's April. It's about time we get
- 6:30Speaker 1: Wave one of the headlining acts are this year. Yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 1: so keep a lookout. That's going to happen very soon. Um,
- 6:37Speaker 1: that is a smaller scale music festival. So what, whoever,
- 6:40Speaker 1: whichever artist come down for that, they will do, I guess,
- 6:43Speaker 1: a more summarized set. Yes, like not a full set,
- 6:46Speaker 1: but still you get the best of everything unless they're
- 6:48Speaker 1: like the headliner, for example. Now, before you get to school,
- 6:52Speaker 1: just about 10 minutes away from opening up phone lines, uh,
- 6:55Speaker 1: we would love for you to walk away.
- 6:56Speaker 1: With some cloud nine tickets. Yes, so minus 3 weeks away.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Oh my gosh May 9th. It's only 3 weeks away.
- 7:04Speaker 1: 2 weeks if my time serves me correctly. Yeah, so
- 7:08Speaker 1: around 2 to 3 weeks before we see 50/50 hit
- 7:11Speaker 1: the stage and a bunch of our other very talented
- 7:13Speaker 1: local artists. I'm actually very excited for KClick. They're getting
- 7:18Speaker 1: loads of people saying, oh my God, I cannot wait
- 7:21Speaker 1: for it to be here in Singapore.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I want to see what they do and
- 7:24Speaker 1: of course in Bahasa. Hm, yeah, so I think the
- 7:27Speaker 1: special thing about cloud nine is that we've got such
- 7:29Speaker 1: a wide variety and different types of artists. So it's
- 7:32Speaker 1: not just like one specific genre, you know. Yeah, I
- 7:35Speaker 1: think that's really cool. And I'm very glad we locked
- 7:37Speaker 1: in yeah, because she's going, I believe, and she still
- 7:42Speaker 1: remembers us. You know what they always say, remember when
- 7:45Speaker 1: you're famous. Yeah, they grew up so fast, but anyway.
- 7:48Speaker 1: We have not 1, not 2, but 4 tickets for
- 7:51Speaker 1: you every day. It is time to open up phone
- 7:54Speaker 1: lines before you get to school. So giving your school
- 7:57Speaker 1: a shout out, whether you are currently studying in there
- 8:00Speaker 1: or maybe say you're an ex-student whatsoever, let us know
- 8:03Speaker 1: and if you call in automatically what's coming your way,
- 8:07Speaker 1: 4 tickets to MediaCorp's cloud nine happening on May 9th, Saturday. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: it's gonna be fantastic and the countdown begins so soon.
- 8:14Speaker 1: 987. Hi, my name is Shane. I'm with my daughter
- 8:18Speaker 1: Renee and Reagan. Oh my wife. Hi, which school are
- 8:22Speaker 1: they going to? OLGC. Our Lady of Good Counsel. So
- 8:29Speaker 1: both of them are going to the same school. Yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 1: So cute. OK, so I guess if you call in
- 8:35Speaker 1: and you win those tickets to cloud nine, all four
- 8:37Speaker 1: of you are going as a family. Yes. Well, the
- 8:39Speaker 1: good news is you're winning it.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And Renee and Reagan enjoy school today, OK? Oh, you're
- 8:50Speaker 1: the cutest. Can we get you a song this morning?
- 8:53Speaker 1: Gabriela by Cat Eye. Gabriela, OK, we just played Cat's Eye,
- 8:58Speaker 1: but I'm going to break the rules a bit today.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'll play you Gabriela, OK? Alright. You take care. Enjoy.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Have a good day. Bye-bye. Olivia Rodrigo with a new
- 9:08Speaker 1: track dropped.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Dead right here on 987. Drop Dead was nothing more baby.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Drop dead gorgeous, drop dead handsome. I was wondering what
- 9:17Speaker 1: happened to pop punk princess Olivia Rodrigo. She was, she
- 9:20Speaker 1: was taking a well-deserved break, I think, you know, these
- 9:23Speaker 1: artists like they go on world tour for like quite
- 9:26Speaker 1: a while, right? And she was very active over the
- 9:28Speaker 1: past few years. OK, maybe not pop punk, pop rock,
- 9:31Speaker 1: pop rock princess, yeah, um, but we're very ready to
- 9:34Speaker 1: play her new tracks. Anyway.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Um, something that has, I guess, become quite a bit
- 9:39Speaker 1: of a cause for concern over the last couple of
- 9:41Speaker 1: years is Songkran. So I, I'm not, um, addressing Songkran,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I know has a deeper meaning to it, and I
- 9:48Speaker 1: love my Thai friends, you know, the meaning of Songkran,
- 9:50Speaker 1: that there's so much more to it than just a
- 9:53Speaker 1: water festival, right?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Um, but I, I believe, you know, the concept of
- 9:57Speaker 1: these Songkran parties have changed so much over the years. Firstly,
- 10:01Speaker 1: it's become a bit of a tourist attraction. Secondly, it's
- 10:04Speaker 1: become unfortunately,
- 10:08Speaker 1: A situation where people actually get hurt at these parties. OK,
- 10:11Speaker 1: at the risk of sounding, I don't know what xenophobic
- 10:14Speaker 1: and all that, no, I'm not, but looking at the
- 10:17Speaker 1: news right now, right, it's mostly a lot of tourists
- 10:20Speaker 1: and foreigners I know who, who think that, oh yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 1: it's your festival in Thailand, so we're just celebrating it
- 10:26Speaker 1: with you. There are people that don't want to be
- 10:28Speaker 1: involved in the spraying of water and all that. There's
- 10:30Speaker 1: one viral video of the van driver. It was very
- 10:34Speaker 1: sad to watch trying to work.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Exactly. So I think there were two different videos. One
- 10:39Speaker 1: was the van. The other one was actually a Songkrann festival,
- 10:42Speaker 1: not in Thailand, but people adopted it, you know, in
- 10:45Speaker 1: other countries. And apparently this EV started emitting smoke after
- 10:49Speaker 1: like people just sprayed it relentlessly. And who's going to
- 10:53Speaker 1: be responsible for that or like fixing your car or
- 10:56Speaker 1: replacing the whole car? Like that's crazy to the point
- 10:59Speaker 1: where I'm not verify this. I saw this on threads
- 11:03Speaker 1: and on TikTok. If you're from China and you're carrying
- 11:06Speaker 1: China SIM card. The moment you land in Thailand for Songkran,
- 11:10Speaker 1: they will send you an automated message saying, please behave yourself. Oh, OK,
- 11:15Speaker 1: so directed though? Exactly. It's interesting. OK. Well, unfortunately, another
- 11:20Speaker 1: incident has occurred. A Thai lady has taken to TikTok
- 11:24Speaker 1: right now and all social media platforms to warn the
- 11:27Speaker 1: public that, you know, even though she was very careful,
- 11:29Speaker 1: she didn't accept any drinks from strangers or whatever, she suspects,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and I think this is still under investigation, she suspects.
- 11:36Speaker 1: That she was actually exposed to drug-laced water that was
- 11:40Speaker 1: sprayed from a water gun at a club. And this
- 11:43Speaker 1: happened just like a week ago. Um, if you are
- 11:46Speaker 1: not familiar with, you know, some of these terms, it
- 11:49Speaker 1: is also known as a date rape drug, unfortunately.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And it's used to take advantage of people, obviously. So she,
- 11:55Speaker 1: you know, said it occurred at a Songkran event at, uh,
- 11:59Speaker 1: at this club and she was actually trying to be
- 12:02Speaker 1: very careful, but she said the water was deliberately sprayed
- 12:06Speaker 1: into her face and her mouth. So that's what she's
- 12:09Speaker 1: saying right now. I think, um, there's gonna be investigations ongoing.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Her medical certificate actually confirmed that this substance was found
- 12:17Speaker 1: in her body, and she said she did not accept
- 12:19Speaker 1: any drinks from any, any strangers. I mean they can
- 12:22Speaker 1: trace it, right? Yeah, so she's filed a police report.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We'll see where this goes, but take this as a
- 12:28Speaker 1: fair warning. So I've been to Songkran before.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Um, it was for work, work-related things. So we were filming, right?
- 12:35Speaker 1: And I think at that time, this was a few
- 12:37Speaker 1: years ago, we were not that aware of how rowdy
- 12:41Speaker 1: it could get, and we were already in not such
- 12:44Speaker 1: a rowdy place of, of Thailand, you know, and once again,
- 12:46Speaker 1: this is not on our Thai friends, we love them
- 12:49Speaker 1: and what it stands for, but it's unfortunately.
- 12:52Speaker 1: The tourists that were very, very rowdy, and after a while, actually,
- 12:55Speaker 1: my camera crew, they were like, I think we should
- 12:57Speaker 1: get out of here. They were like, you know what guys,
- 12:59Speaker 1: let's get out of here. It's getting a little bit
- 13:01Speaker 1: crazy at this point. Maybe if it's Songkran time in Thailand,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I just want to avoid it for a while. I'll
- 13:06Speaker 1: go after Songkran or before Songkran. It's almost as if
- 13:09Speaker 1: going for Mardi Gras or even Mexico's Day of the
- 13:12Speaker 1: Dead festival where
- 13:14Speaker 1: If you're gonna go, you know what you're in for.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Keep yourself safe and observe the boundaries and protocols, I guess.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Please don't spoil. I mean, now that has become such
- 13:27Speaker 1: a big thing that term is used very loosely all
- 13:31Speaker 1: of festivals. Honestly, I think it comes to know. But
- 13:36Speaker 1: what is not too late to take care of yourself,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I guess, just be careful.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Justin Bieber with Nicki Minaj. We just had to put
- 13:43Speaker 1: this one in, of course, he's trending again, especially all
- 13:47Speaker 1: his older songs. And you know, Joakim, I have a
- 13:50Speaker 1: confession to make. The moment this song went viral, right,
- 13:54Speaker 1: my poly group chat popped off because
- 13:58Speaker 1: Years ago, um, 23 of us actually went to Ion
- 14:02Speaker 1: Orchard and we filmed our very own music video according
- 14:05Speaker 1: to this song. You know what this means, right? You
- 14:08Speaker 1: gotta post it. I, OK, it's very embarrassing.
- 14:13Speaker 1: But I've already edited it. I've pieced it together because
- 14:16Speaker 1: I don't know what phone we use, but iPhone 6
- 14:18Speaker 1: or something. I have no idea what we use. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: it was like 3 megapixels or something, the video. Hey,
- 14:24Speaker 1: it's OK. I edit, I put it together already because
- 14:26Speaker 1: it was chopped up into pieces and we never put
- 14:28Speaker 1: it together. I guess we didn't have cap cut back then.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It was like we have to export the final cut
- 14:32Speaker 1: and then
- 14:33Speaker 1: Put into the phone. Yes, I will post it this week. Alright,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I will, and you are welcome to have a good laugh. Yes.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Loads of things happening over the weekend here in Singapore
- 14:44Speaker 1: and for yours truly, you were at the music festival.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I was at the theaters, not the cinemas, the theaters.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Physical theater, yeah. So for Friday night, I was at
- 14:52Speaker 1: Wild Rice Funan SG, and I caught the Christians. Now,
- 14:57Speaker 1: if anyone here is thinking with the title.
- 14:59Speaker 1: So like that, oh, it could be an attack or
- 15:01Speaker 1: parody on Christianity. Actually, no. If it is, why would
- 15:05Speaker 1: it be staged in Singapore? Come on. Exactly. So on
- 15:08Speaker 1: Friday night, there was actually a talkback session where the
- 15:12Speaker 1: director Glenn Gui, the playwright, uh, ordered the Singapore version
- 15:15Speaker 1: of the playwright, and we had a Shane Majoki who
- 15:17Speaker 1: plays the lead. So is it, is it an adaptation
- 15:20Speaker 1: of an existing play from overseas? Yes, so, so the,
- 15:23Speaker 1: the guy who wrote the play.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Alive. So before staging it, they had to contact him
- 15:27Speaker 1: and make sure that everything is in order, and he
- 15:29Speaker 1: approves it before it stages. It gets staged here in Singapore.
- 15:33Speaker 1: So I actually asked the question, what was the conversation
- 15:36Speaker 1: like with IMDA to stage a play like this called
- 15:38Speaker 1: The Christians? And Ivan Heng himself took the mic and said,
- 15:42Speaker 1: let me answer this. And he was going on about
- 15:44Speaker 1: how when he first read the script, he felt compelled
- 15:47Speaker 1: to stage it, and he wrote into IMDA as a
- 15:50Speaker 1: Early as April last year to get the approvals, yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 1: so they got the advisory, I think it's advisory 16,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and for them to stage it, you, you know that
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's not an attack on a religion it's not. It's
- 16:01Speaker 1: not gonna cause any, you know, yeah, big differences. So please,
- 16:05Speaker 1: if you can go watch it. It will, it will
- 16:07Speaker 1: ask you questions, and I hope you are up to
- 16:09Speaker 1: the task of taking on those questions. Enjoy the theater.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Enjoy the play. You know, I just want to encourage more.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Young people to go and watch plays and you know,
- 16:19Speaker 1: the theaters because I think you and I, we both
- 16:21Speaker 1: grew up with it, you know, you even studied it.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I was exposed to it as a kid as well,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and it makes a difference because there's a lot of
- 16:28Speaker 1: thought provoking questions. Yeah, and on Saturday, I caught Secondary
- 16:33Speaker 1: the musical. Oh yes, and we had in the studio.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna say this, I think this local musical will
- 16:39Speaker 1: be studied in time to come. I love that.
- 16:42Speaker 1: The themes, the way it's staged, the things that it's saying,
- 16:46Speaker 1: it's more than just for students, it's for teachers as well.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And I think around me on Saturday night at Victoria Theater,
- 16:52Speaker 1: there were loads of teachers watching the play. They were crying,
- 16:56Speaker 1: they were laughing. Take a bow to the entire cast
- 16:59Speaker 1: and ensemble. I think they're gonna win more awards and Wish,
- 17:02Speaker 1: it's an honor to witness your gift through music and
- 17:05Speaker 1: now the theater here in Singapore. She's so talented. Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 1: She went on stage for a quick bar. I think
- 17:09Speaker 1: the director Huzi Sulaiman brought her up. Super talented. You know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: I think at the heart of it all, it is
- 17:15Speaker 1: how relatable it is that probably won hearts. And if
- 17:18Speaker 1: you're wondering, can I get tickets? It's sold out. Oh,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I guess they have to stage it again for the
- 17:23Speaker 1: first time. Yeah, yeah. And coming up next, oh wow,
- 17:26Speaker 1: we are really absolutely happy to be the first show
- 17:29Speaker 1: this week to get the ball rolling for $9000. Woo.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It has snowballed to this amount, people, and if we
- 17:37Speaker 1: don't have a winner by Friday, it's going to my
- 17:40Speaker 1: personal choice, $10,000 only if nobody wins it this week.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Hey man, I don't mind winning $90. That's pretty sweet.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Not far off from $100 you know. OK, so let's
- 17:52Speaker 1: just say if you are a 987 listener right now
- 17:54Speaker 1: and you've been playing this game for weeks.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Friends and family, how would you be feeling? Would you
- 18:01Speaker 1: be compelled to really try calling in now? Of course,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I would try my best. And honestly, I don't know
- 18:07Speaker 1: whether there's um a statistic of like when is the
- 18:09Speaker 1: best time to call or which show you prefer to
- 18:13Speaker 1: call on, but if you're tuning in to us right now,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I say the early bird catches the worm, you know,
- 18:18Speaker 1: so make sure that you call through, get your friends
- 18:20Speaker 1: to call through.
- 18:21Speaker 1: I also know that there were some listeners that told
- 18:24Speaker 1: me before, um, from past editions of Secret Sound, right?
- 18:28Speaker 1: They actually said they have an agreement amongst friends, like
- 18:30Speaker 1: let's say 3 or 4 friends, OK. They will split
- 18:33Speaker 1: the amounts, but they have to stand by at any
- 18:35Speaker 1: one point in time to try and call. So they
- 18:37Speaker 1: just agree. WhatsApp group chats, Telegram chasing 987. I'm very
- 18:43Speaker 1: happy for this, by the way.
- 18:45Speaker 1: 87.
- 18:51Speaker 1: What's that sound
- 18:52Speaker 1: Hello, this is Samantha. Hi Samantha, good morning. How are you?
- 18:57Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Thank you. How are you? We're very well. You sound
- 19:00Speaker 1: so excited. Is it your first time calling through ever? Yes. Samantha,
- 19:03Speaker 1: we're playing for $9000. You know what not to say, right?
- 19:07Speaker 1: In terms of your guesses. OK. Listen very carefully. This
- 19:11Speaker 1: is the secret sound you have to identify.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna play it one more time.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Samantha, for $9000 what is a 987 secret sound? I
- 19:24Speaker 1: think that it's one of those fidget clickers um for
- 19:29Speaker 1: kids to fidget with and click. OK, so like a
- 19:32Speaker 1: fidget clicker, like a toy. Yeah. Locking it in, let's
- 19:36Speaker 1: find out.
- 19:38Speaker 1: You are incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secret sound continues.
- 19:45Speaker 1: that sound
- 19:47Speaker 1: Samantha, according to boss Janice, not the answer we're looking for,
- 19:51Speaker 1: but at least it's a new guess. OK. So whoever's
- 19:54Speaker 1: playing the game later on, cross this answer off your list. Well, Samantha,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you are on the right track at least, you know,
- 20:01Speaker 1: like you're you're giving fresh guesses. So please try again soon, OK?
- 20:03Speaker 1: You take care. OK, thank you.
- 20:08Speaker 1: So one guess, win big.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Alrighty. So this interesting piece of news over the weekend
- 20:19Speaker 1: and I was just thinking only Australians can do this. OK. OK,
- 20:25Speaker 1: it involves a buffet and I think it was Australian themed.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So I don't know if you've tried this before, crocodile meat. No.
- 20:36Speaker 1: OK, look, I, I know this is
- 20:39Speaker 1: Not new to us Asians, you know, like it it, yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 1: it's been available at several places, but usually only at
- 20:47Speaker 1: specialty joints though, I will say. OK, so I've tried
- 20:50Speaker 1: crocodile meat. Yeah, does it taste like chicken? OK, people
- 20:54Speaker 1: always say that it really does, but knowing that it
- 20:57Speaker 1: comes from a crocodile, it just makes you think differently.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So at the MBS buffet, I think to celebrate.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Culture or something like that. What was seen on the
- 21:09Speaker 1: buffet spread, crocodile meat and feet. It wasn't just, yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: it wasn't just meat, it was the paws, right? Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Do they call that paws, crocodile paws? What do you say?
- 21:19Speaker 1: It looks like you're having a dinosaur or something like that,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, OK, I'm just surprised
- 21:23Speaker 1: that it was presented in that way because I'm not
- 21:26Speaker 1: sure if it was very popular. Did people actually eat
- 21:29Speaker 1: it or try it tried it. So it's to celebrate
- 21:33Speaker 1: Australia Day.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I, I don't know how I feel about this, man.
- 21:39Speaker 1: But are you adventurous? If you were to go, would
- 21:40Speaker 1: you try it? I, I don't know if I will take,
- 21:44Speaker 1: take it in its entirety. If it was presented differently, like,
- 21:48Speaker 1: you know, um, your, the way that they serve chicken
- 21:51Speaker 1: cubes or something, like, yeah, OK, maybe I'll try it,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but I don't know if I can stomach putting the
- 21:57Speaker 1: whole crocodile feet on my plate or foot on my plate.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It makes me wonder whether kangaroo meat, but I don't
- 22:04Speaker 1: think so. Oh wait, no, there is, there is, OK.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Kangaroo and Davidson plum pie. Wow. OK, see, at least
- 22:13Speaker 1: it was in a pie. I don't have to look
- 22:14Speaker 1: at it like in a scary way. The kangaroo. No,
- 22:18Speaker 1: but OK, from what I understand, um, there's an abundance
- 22:22Speaker 1: of kangaroos, in fact, overpopulation of kangaroos. That's why sometimes
- 22:25Speaker 1: they end up roadkill, you know, or um, they end
- 22:28Speaker 1: up as food.
- 22:30Speaker 1: There's more kangaroos in Australia than people, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So in terms of buffet, let's go to a more
- 22:38Speaker 1: normal regular Singaporean buffet for us here in Singapore. What's
- 22:41Speaker 1: the first thing you run towards? Um, you know, um,
- 22:44Speaker 1: my mom always says like why I always go for
- 22:46Speaker 1: the cheap stuff, but I always love the local delights
- 22:48Speaker 1: and the carbs. So if there's a laksa station, I'm there.
- 22:51Speaker 1: That's the first thing.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Um, if there's anything related to Hokkien mee or Chakwete,
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm there as well. That's why my mom say very
- 22:58Speaker 1: bohua to bring me I'm very carby. I'm a carbie Barbie.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Wait, I have a shirt that says Carbie Barbie.
- 23:09Speaker 1: OK, for yours truly, if it's breakfast buffet, yeah, I'm
- 23:12Speaker 1: running straight to the omelet station. OK, yeah, I like
- 23:14Speaker 1: that too. I want my omelet made fresh and hot,
- 23:18Speaker 1: but if it's like a regular buffet buffet, of course
- 23:20Speaker 1: you know where I'm going to. Yes, the roast, the roast, yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 1: In fact, that's something I will go to like somewhere
- 23:26Speaker 1: in the middle. I don't know. I love my Asian delight.
- 23:30Speaker 1: If you have room after all the carbs. That's the thing, right?
- 23:32Speaker 1: So that's why my parents always say no point bringing
- 23:35Speaker 1: us to buffet because we're all like not the best buffet.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And that's the first place I bring you to for
- 23:40Speaker 1: our first meeting? Meet the buffet. This is in 2010. Anyway,
- 23:45Speaker 1: give us a call 669-11987. We love to hear from you.
- 23:49Speaker 1: When it comes to buffets, what is the first station
- 23:53Speaker 1: you rush towards the moment you get in there? Or
- 23:56Speaker 1: is there a station that you don't really patronize? And
- 23:59Speaker 1: by the way, if you do like your answer, how
- 24:01Speaker 1: about pampering you, by the way, over at Hilton Singapore Orchard,
- 24:05Speaker 1: we're giving you $100.
- 24:07Speaker 1: dining experience all thanks to Estate Restaurant. Oh, I love
- 24:11Speaker 1: that place. OK, so make sure you call us right now.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Don't miss this opportunity. OK, before we head to the
- 24:15Speaker 1: phone lines, we've got a couple of callers hanging on.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Let's head to messages first. The question is, inspired by
- 24:22Speaker 1: a very interesting buffet spread that we noticed went quite viral, um,
- 24:27Speaker 1: someone cited actually crocodile feet or paws at a buffet
- 24:32Speaker 1: to commemorate Australia Day as you would. OK.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean there are other things that they're famous for,
- 24:38Speaker 1: but OK. They have kangaroo and plum pie as well.
- 24:41Speaker 1: So in a, in a very interesting context, what's the
- 24:43Speaker 1: first thing you zone into a buffet? I want to
- 24:46Speaker 1: say good morning to James. James says, hey guys, for buffet,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I will top up with 2 times 6.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Fresh oysters and end with a steak, pink with no blood, yummy.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So it's kind of like medium rare. Uh, Spencer says
- 25:04Speaker 1: the first station I rushed to is actually the dessert station.
- 25:10Speaker 1: If I eat it after my meal, I may be
- 25:12Speaker 1: too full to enjoy it. Oh man, OK, well, hey,
- 25:16Speaker 1: everyone has their own habits, right? I would say. Actually,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm very surprised. I'm very surprised because we have other
- 25:22Speaker 1: texts saying the exact same thing. What? Yeah. Heading back
- 25:25Speaker 1: to our messages and we got a couple of callers
- 25:27Speaker 1: hanging on the line. The question for you today is,
- 25:29Speaker 1: what is the first thing you zoom straight to at
- 25:32Speaker 1: a buffet?
- 25:33Speaker 1: I'm inspired to learn from our few texters, Sonia. One
- 25:36Speaker 1: coming in from Waitta. I surveyed the line and going
- 25:39Speaker 1: in and focus on high value, high-cost items like seafood
- 25:45Speaker 1: and carved meat things we can't eat usually and look
- 25:48Speaker 1: for the same portion to test them first like crab, oyster,
- 25:51Speaker 1: or seasonal items and steak before going for desserts. For desserts,
- 25:55Speaker 1: my tip is to always
- 25:57Speaker 1: Look and share the first round and then everyone can
- 26:00Speaker 1: sample and if they're really good, then consider going for 2. Wow,
- 26:04Speaker 1: there's a lot of strategy going on. Exactly. It's a buffet,
- 26:07Speaker 1: you know. OK, here's the thing, right, actually, um, I,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I mean, I trust that our listeners know what they're
- 26:12Speaker 1: doing at the buffets. There were some moments where I
- 26:15Speaker 1: went to a buffet, right, and um there's a guy
- 26:19Speaker 1: in front of me. He actually wiped out the entire
- 26:23Speaker 1: crablike station.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Despite noticing that there were quite a few people waiting
- 26:28Speaker 1: patiently for it, I just wonder whether there's a certain
- 26:32Speaker 1: etiquette or is it really just like, hey, first come,
- 26:34Speaker 1: first serve. What? I'm not in the wrong, you know.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I want to say hello to Lian Tie. Morning, Jonia.
- 26:39Speaker 1: My usual strategy learned from my wife is to sample
- 26:42Speaker 1: everything and then channel our inner Zermat Neo and whack
- 26:46Speaker 1: the nicest item.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I mean, look lah, if we're going for a really
- 26:50Speaker 1: nice buffet, chances are that might be your only meal
- 26:52Speaker 1: of the day. You just leave some for us. Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 1: leave some for us. Is serrat allowed at buffets? Is
- 27:00Speaker 1: that's a question I've never asked him. I mean, if
- 27:02Speaker 1: he eats like a normal a normal, maybe. Does he ever?
- 27:06Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen him eat like a
- 27:08Speaker 1: normal person. I'm sure he does. I love eating challenges.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I know he does like a lot of intermittent fasting.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Preparation for these things and he is a professional competitive eater,
- 27:17Speaker 1: so I mean if I were a restaurant owner had
- 27:20Speaker 1: a buffet section, I think I'll close it off, it's OK.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Go somewhere else and eat. Anyway, his diet is on
- 27:28Speaker 1: the line. What about you? I will go straight to
- 27:30Speaker 1: the dessert section. Wait, dessert first before anything else. Yes,
- 27:36Speaker 1: because I'm so obsessed with my sweets.
- 27:39Speaker 1: That is such a weird choice, but hey, no hate whatsoever.
- 27:43Speaker 1: This is very interesting. So then what is the order
- 27:45Speaker 1: of your, like your eating at a buffet? Dessert and
- 27:48Speaker 1: then dessert followed by my protein, uh, which is basically
- 27:52Speaker 1: the meat, and then followed by my carbohydrate, uh, which
- 27:55Speaker 1: is basically either the pasta or the rice, and, uh,
- 27:59Speaker 1: my drinks. So that's about it. She goes in the reverse.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So Hidaya, do your friends and family question your routine
- 28:06Speaker 1: when it comes to buffet? No, they don't, because they
- 28:09Speaker 1: know that I'm a sweet tooth monster, so I'm like that. OK,
- 28:13Speaker 1: so then tell us which buffet in Singapore you've experienced
- 28:17Speaker 1: has like the best dessert spread for you? I think
- 28:20Speaker 1: the one at Swinson in the airport. Do they like
- 28:23Speaker 1: my number one choice. Do they have ice cream buffet
- 28:25Speaker 1: if I'm not?
- 28:26Speaker 1: They do, yeah. Oh yeah, they do, they do because
- 28:28Speaker 1: they are really like uh ice cream brand, right? So
- 28:31Speaker 1: when you go to the airport, it's the exaggerated version.
- 28:33Speaker 1: So basically there's like of the fountain and then the
- 28:36Speaker 1: ice creams are like so much more flavors than what
- 28:39Speaker 1: you see in a normal Swensen shop. So yeah, you
- 28:43Speaker 1: can trust to know all about Swensen's I'm guessing. Yeah,
- 28:45Speaker 1: she knows it inside out, probably try all the flavors. Yes, yes,
- 28:51Speaker 1: I agree. Thank you so much for your call. You
- 28:53Speaker 1: have a great day.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Bye bye. For now, we're focusing on this. What is
- 28:57Speaker 1: the one section of food that you zoom in for
- 29:00Speaker 1: at a buffet? Want to say good morning to Jadis
- 29:03Speaker 1: on WhatsApp. Morning, Sojo. The one thing I really enjoy
- 29:06Speaker 1: in a good buffet is a good cheese selection. Not
- 29:09Speaker 1: all places have that, but the good ones give you
- 29:11Speaker 1: an opportunity to try a spread that you otherwise don't
- 29:15Speaker 1: often get to. One of my favorites is the one
- 29:17Speaker 1: at the Ritz. Oh, OK, OK.
- 29:20Speaker 1: That's cool. One more coming in from SQ. Morning, Soakki.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Happy Monday. My first section will have to be checking
- 29:26Speaker 1: out the chef's signature, as every restaurant will have their
- 29:29Speaker 1: unique signature item. Next, I'll be checking out live stations
- 29:32Speaker 1: as it's cool to see the chef in the making
- 29:34Speaker 1: of yummy food. Next, I will head to my favorite section,
- 29:38Speaker 1: the seafood section, to make sure my money is worth. Yeah,
- 29:42Speaker 1: I mean, look, hey man, the meat and seafood section,
- 29:44Speaker 1: very busy doing the buffet.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Oh sure, yes. Lynette, what about you? All
- 29:48Speaker 2: the specials for the season. So we always try to
- 29:51Speaker 2: go to buffets for like Easter or Christmas or New Year, right?
- 29:56Speaker 2: Then they will sell something special or they will, uh,
- 29:59Speaker 2: have like the truffle duck at Hilton Estate. They'll have
- 30:03Speaker 2: Wagyu foie gras. So those are the wuhua things you
- 30:06Speaker 2: must go for those first. But
- 30:07Speaker 1: very smart. She mentioned estate, by the way, which is
- 30:09Speaker 1: what we're giving away today.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Yes, actually that's our favorite place to go for a
- 30:15Speaker 2: buffet really. So anytime they have something special, we will
- 30:18Speaker 2: go there. Yeah, my husband's crazy about it. OK,
- 30:20Speaker 1: wait, so I have a question. So here's the thing,
- 30:22Speaker 1: during special occasions like you mentioned Easter, Christmas, and all that, right?
- 30:25Speaker 1: The cost of the buffet is gonna go up. They're
- 30:28Speaker 1: gonna increase it for sure. You find it worthwhile still?
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yes, because you don't really get some of these specials, right,
- 30:35Speaker 2: in the usual buffet. So, after all, a buffet is
- 30:38Speaker 2: a special occasion, so a little bit more. You'll get
- 30:41Speaker 2: something more special and then
- 30:42Speaker 1: yeah. So what do you zero in for? What do
- 30:44Speaker 1: you go for? Oh,
- 30:45Speaker 2: OK, besides the specials, I really, really like the Indian food.
- 30:49Speaker 2: I really like all the Indian food,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you, you're like me, at the beginning of the meal.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I don't care lah. Just eat lah, right? I mean,
- 30:57Speaker 2: after all, that's what the buffet is for. So just
- 31:00Speaker 2: go for the, you know, uh, palek paneang go for
- 31:04Speaker 2: all the tandoori
- 31:05Speaker 1: chicken, man. Look, my theory is, yes, I know some
- 31:10Speaker 1: people have strategies when it comes.
- 31:11Speaker 1: to buffet, but I need to go for the things
- 31:13Speaker 1: that give me a lot of joy and just, and
- 31:15Speaker 1: if it makes me happy, whatever, you know, I'm not
- 31:18Speaker 1: going to go with any strategy. Bryani rice and a
- 31:20Speaker 1: curry gravy. Exactly. There you go. That's why, that's all
- 31:23Speaker 1: I end up eating in a buffet because you're too
- 31:25Speaker 1: full after that.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Nanette for your call. You have
- 31:29Speaker 1: a great day, OK? Thank you. You too. Down to
- 31:32Speaker 1: our last few messages here. Our question to you is,
- 31:36Speaker 1: what is the first thing you usually zoom straight to
- 31:38Speaker 1: at a buffet? OK, Elston, you give us your entire list. Morning,
- 31:43Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim. I enjoy eating buffets, and I like
- 31:45Speaker 1: to reward myself on payday each month with a very
- 31:48Speaker 1: good one. I always look forward to starting with oysters.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Of course.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Then the lobsters followed by sashimi because these are my
- 31:56Speaker 1: favorites and they are quite expensive, so I don't eat
- 31:58Speaker 1: them often. I also usually don't do dairy, so this
- 32:02Speaker 1: is monthly treat motivates me to work hard and gives
- 32:05Speaker 1: you something to look forward to. It feels very worthwhile
- 32:08Speaker 1: and satisfying. Wait, so does he eat dairy at buffets? Oh,
- 32:11Speaker 1: he doesn't at all. He's probably like lactose intolerant or something. Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: please don't, don't ruin the buffet. I have a friend,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you know her.
- 32:19Speaker 1: She's lactose intolerant, but when we go to places that
- 32:22Speaker 1: are famous for, like, you know, cream-based pastas or anything
- 32:25Speaker 1: with cream or cheese, she'll bring her medication with her,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and she's, guys, I'm going. But hey, please don't try it, OK,
- 32:33Speaker 1: because I think everyone has different, um, tolerance tolerance, yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 1: One more and one last one coming in from Papa
- 32:41Speaker 1: Papa Quack, I think.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Good morning. For me, definitely the sashimi and other seafood items,
- 32:46Speaker 1: followed by steak and other meat. I round it off
- 32:49Speaker 1: with a hot soup or laksa. Take a break before
- 32:52Speaker 1: starting again. Round two. I mean, as long as the
- 32:57Speaker 1: buffet doesn't have a time limit, I think you're fine.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You can hang out for the entire duration of the buffet.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Honestly, when it comes to buffet, right, and I'm not
- 33:04Speaker 1: too sure how much of a fan of meat buffets
- 33:06Speaker 1: people are, but the one over at 6th Avenue, it's
- 33:08Speaker 1: been there, it's been an institution now, the Brazil restaurant, yes, yes, yes.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Very good service and very good meats. Yeah, go there
- 33:16Speaker 1: with a big appetite if you can. Thank you so
- 33:18Speaker 1: much for all your texts, your messages, your calls here today.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It seems like the concept of buffets, truly very well
- 33:26Speaker 1: loved by Singaporeans, and a question to you today in
- 33:28Speaker 1: case you missed it and you want to catch up
- 33:30Speaker 1: on me Listen and Spotify. What is the one particular
- 33:34Speaker 1: station at a buffet you will zoom straight to the
- 33:36Speaker 1: moment the buffet begins? Yo, if Sami's Curry had a buffet, bro,
- 33:40Speaker 1: I'm there, we are there. The mutton mysore, the chicken tandoori,
- 33:44Speaker 1: and for you the basmati rice.
- 33:47Speaker 1: That's what I was gonna say, but we have to
- 33:49Speaker 1: cancel all the plans after that. Yes, because I will
- 33:51Speaker 1: knock out, and I'm gonna whack all the pads, but
- 33:54Speaker 1: I think for today's winner, and because she's so knowledgeable,
- 33:58Speaker 1: she even knows the menu about estate as well. She does.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Let's give it to Lynette. Alright, Lynette, like a loyal customer,
- 34:04Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, we want to reward you and thank
- 34:07Speaker 1: you for being so in-depth with your answer. But as you,
- 34:09Speaker 1: as we always say, very challenging for us to pick
- 34:12Speaker 1: a winner every morning. We, we appreciate each and every
- 34:14Speaker 1: one of your answers.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Sometimes we debate, by the way. So Lynette, of course,
- 34:17Speaker 1: what's coming your way is no stranger to you. A
- 34:19Speaker 1: nice dining experience. The Estate Restaurant over at Hilton Singapore Orchard,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and they have a new Sunday social champagne brunch. I'm
- 34:27Speaker 1: very sure I'll see you there every Sunday from 12:30 p.m.
- 34:31Speaker 1: to 3:30 p.m. There's a live DJ and premium dishes
- 34:35Speaker 1: like Boston lobster, fresh seafood, and indulgent desserts. Oh, there's
- 34:39Speaker 1: foie gras as well and you can enjoy Moe Shandong, uh, champagne.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Um, kids and families can actually have fun at the
- 34:46Speaker 1: dedicated junior corner with other activities too. So yeah, check
- 34:49Speaker 1: it out. You can follow them at Estate Restaurant on Instagram. OK,
- 34:53Speaker 1: so Ho Chin Minh City is a place that I
- 34:56Speaker 1: absolutely love. I've only been there once before and I
- 35:00Speaker 1: had such a great experience. Um, a lot of my
- 35:02Speaker 1: friends are also trying their best to go and pay
- 35:04Speaker 1: them a visit.
- 35:05Speaker 1: It is a really great way to have an escape
- 35:08Speaker 1: where you want, you know, great food, great shopping. Vietnamese
- 35:11Speaker 1: brands are really up and coming. They've also got like
- 35:14Speaker 1: a really nice cafe, nightlife and art. I'm a Vietnam,
- 35:18Speaker 1: Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, are they very far apart?
- 35:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I didn't go to Hanoi. So I've
- 35:23Speaker 1: only been to Ho Chi Minh. I don't know about
- 35:24Speaker 1: the distance or geography, but if you are traveling,
- 35:28Speaker 1: To Vietnam in the future, specifically Ho Chi Minh City,
- 35:32Speaker 1: and I believe they may start rolling it out maybe
- 35:34Speaker 1: in other popular areas as well. But for now, Ho
- 35:37Speaker 1: Chi Minh is one of the most popular cities to
- 35:39Speaker 1: visit for tourists. They're introducing a mandatory pre-arrival declaration form
- 35:44Speaker 1: that you have to fill in. So it's something like
- 35:47Speaker 1: the SG arrival card in a way that you do
- 35:49Speaker 1: on your phone digitally.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And I think um the reason why they've introduced it
- 35:54Speaker 1: is because they're trying to ease congestion at the immigration lines,
- 35:58Speaker 1: which is, look, that is, I mean, a welcome change,
- 36:01Speaker 1: I would say. Um, so this new rule applies to
- 36:04Speaker 1: foreign nationals entering Vietnam as well as overseas Vietnamese using visas.
- 36:08Speaker 1: So please take note about that because the authorities say
- 36:11Speaker 1: and warn you, if you don't fill it up, it
- 36:13Speaker 1: might lead to.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Longer waiting times at immigration. This also gives us a
- 36:17Speaker 1: clear sign that tourism in Vietnam, it's going up. I mean,
- 36:21Speaker 1: I'm happy for them. Um, the Vietnamese hospitality is great.
- 36:25Speaker 1: They have great coffees, great cafes, like I mentioned, food
- 36:27Speaker 1: is great, so fresh, lots of vegetables. Um, there's nothing
- 36:30Speaker 1: to hate about Vietnam. I do see myself going to
- 36:33Speaker 1: Vietnam very soon. I think you will like it, but
- 36:34Speaker 1: I do want to spend two weeks there so I
- 36:36Speaker 1: can see everything.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think you can do a little bit
- 36:39Speaker 1: more of like the hiking stuff or maybe backpacking if
- 36:42Speaker 1: you are interested in that. I don't know. I'm sure.
- 36:51Speaker 1: So just something to note because recently I was on
- 36:54Speaker 1: a work trip. This was to, uh, to Thailand and I,
- 36:59Speaker 1: I was with um
- 37:00Speaker 1: Some other personalities from other countries, OK, and we're all regional,
- 37:04Speaker 1: so we just kind of met on the flight and
- 37:07Speaker 1: prior to taking the flight, I was told you have
- 37:09Speaker 1: to fill in a pre-declaration form. So, I was reminded
- 37:13Speaker 1: like 2 or 3 times by the representatives. So I said, OK,
- 37:15Speaker 1: I'll do it for sure, right?
- 37:18Speaker 1: Unfortunately for the ladies that I was traveling with, not
- 37:20Speaker 1: from Singapore, they didn't fill it in. So they got
- 37:24Speaker 1: held back I think like 30 minutes. They, they were stuck.
- 37:26Speaker 1: They got brought into a room and all. I was like,
- 37:28Speaker 1: oh my God, I can't live without them. That's painful
- 37:31Speaker 1: because we're sharing the same transport to the hotel, so
- 37:33Speaker 1: stood there for like 20 minutes or so, but
- 37:36Speaker 1: Just a reminder, check it, especially if you're traveling with friends.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You want everything to be seamless. Allow me to give
- 37:43Speaker 1: you today's news. When we come back here on the
- 37:46Speaker 1: short circuit. Yeah, I'm gonna promote my proud area of
- 37:49Speaker 1: Bishan again. We all know that you will never leave
- 37:52Speaker 1: that place, but this one, you know, over at Tanjung
- 37:55Speaker 1: Paga there's that humburg steak place.
- 37:59Speaker 1: OK, I mean there are triple cheese like with the
- 38:01Speaker 1: with the free flow salad bar it's the one facing Tower. Yes,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I know, I know, yeah. If you enjoy a place
- 38:08Speaker 1: like that and maybe Tanjong Paga is too far for you,
- 38:11Speaker 1: there's actually one over at Tampines and now one over
- 38:15Speaker 1: at Bishan. Find out what this store is. Alright, this
- 38:18Speaker 1: time around, the tables have turned. Joakim is the one
- 38:21Speaker 1: with food news today. Why not you sing the jingle one.
- 38:23Speaker 1: OK, let's go. 123. Food news, news, joking with the
- 38:30Speaker 1: good food news. Good, good news. Never happened before you
- 38:34Speaker 1: doing the jingle, but OK, um, I was walking around
- 38:38Speaker 1: Junction 8 over the weekend and I was wondering, hey,
- 38:40Speaker 1: why got long queue? Like what has opened up my knowledge?
- 38:45Speaker 1: The mayor of Bishop I was gonna say that.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Help man. Seriously. OK, so I realized, um, something has
- 38:53Speaker 1: taken over what used to be a ramen joint. OK,
- 38:56Speaker 1: that before the ramen joint it was PastaMia. OK. You're
- 38:59Speaker 1: still pretty salty about that. I can hear it in
- 39:01Speaker 1: your voice. OK, but if you heard of barri barri steak,
- 39:06Speaker 1: have you heard of it? No, actually not yet. OK,
- 39:08Speaker 1: so it's a very famous Hong Kong tapan concept which
- 39:12Speaker 1: has won over the Tampines area and they've now.
- 39:15Speaker 1: at Junction 8. That's why the sneaking queues. So I
- 39:18Speaker 1: took some pictures yesterday and I, I noticed a free-flow
- 39:21Speaker 1: salad bar. And if you like your meat on a
- 39:24Speaker 1: hot plate, yes, they got like Wagyu hamburg steaks, they
- 39:27Speaker 1: got oyster blade steaks. They got all these A4 and
- 39:31Speaker 1: whatever kinds of cuts of meat you like. So go
- 39:33Speaker 1: give it a try if you want to, if you
- 39:34Speaker 1: live around the area. And what's the price point like?
- 39:36Speaker 1: Do you know? Is it affordable? So I'm looking at
- 39:38Speaker 1: some of the menu items, uh, Australian oil.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Mr. Blade steak tappon, it could be 24.90 or 26.90 depending. Yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 1: pretty reasonable. I'm assuming the quality is good. Of course,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know, of course with the free flow salad bar,
- 39:51Speaker 1: get your vegetables in as well. I'm done for that.
- 39:53Speaker 1: So I think you could give the one at Tanjung
- 39:55Speaker 1: Paga a run for its money, but whether it is
- 39:57Speaker 1: as good, I haven't tried it yet, but let us
- 39:59Speaker 1: know if you have tried it. Do you remember like
- 40:01Speaker 1: the first time we went to the one at Tanjong
- 40:02Speaker 1: Paaka was with the muttons, mutton, and the funny thing
- 40:05Speaker 1: is the muttons don't like vegetables.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I mean, therefore they're called the muttons, but when we
- 40:12Speaker 1: went there, it was so funny because I really love salad.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I love vegetables, and they were just like having a
- 40:17Speaker 1: good laugh because they don't like it. I mean, you
- 40:19Speaker 1: bring Sonia to a meat place, what would she? Enough, enough,
- 40:22Speaker 1: enough vegetables. Hey, I have a balanced diet. My gut
- 40:25Speaker 1: is great, OK. OK. Now, as you know, I just
- 40:28Speaker 1: posted on Saturday. I, I usually don't talk that much
- 40:30Speaker 1: about my wedding prep or whatsoever unless people ask me, right? But, um,
- 40:34Speaker 1: we are releasing a new miniseries this week, and the
- 40:37Speaker 1: teaser was out on Saturday.
- 40:39Speaker 1: This actually sparked off something quite interesting. I wanted to
- 40:44Speaker 1: share on air in just a while about a tiny
- 40:46Speaker 1: miscommunication with a friend. But also, can I, can I
- 40:50Speaker 1: say my piece, about what? About how you treated your
- 40:54Speaker 1: wedding despite being a media personality. What? I'll surprise you later. OK.
- 41:00Speaker 1: We did not run this by each other. He doesn't
- 41:03Speaker 1: know what I'm gonna share, OK. Before we wrap up
- 41:05Speaker 1: the show, um, on Saturday, I posted a little teaser
- 41:08Speaker 1: trailer of a miniseries that we're doing, and it's, it's
- 41:12Speaker 1: basically a very raw reality style series, and it'll be
- 41:15Speaker 1: posted on all of Media Corp's platforms. By the way,
- 41:18Speaker 1: the Quai.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Trailer had no chance. Wow, you know. OK, so, um, I,
- 41:26Speaker 1: it's a collab post between 987 and myself. So please
- 41:29Speaker 1: go check it out, um, both on TikTok and Instagram.
- 41:31Speaker 1: But the funny thing was, a few weeks ago I
- 41:34Speaker 1: sent out the official invitations, right? So the save the
- 41:37Speaker 1: date was sent like late last year. So then I
- 41:39Speaker 1: sent out official, you know, invites with all the details,
- 41:42Speaker 1: to which I want to say hello to Edwin Goh, OK,
- 41:44Speaker 1: this actor here, as you know. So I, I did,
- 41:47Speaker 1: you know, we've known each other for a while.
- 41:49Speaker 1: And I sent it to him. So in my message,
- 41:52Speaker 1: as you received as well, I said, please RSVP by
- 41:56Speaker 1: a certain date. OK. I think it was like 10th
- 41:58Speaker 1: of April or something, if I'm not wrong, 10th or 11th.
- 42:02Speaker 1: To which he said, um, he replied my messages, oh, no,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I have a shoot the very morning of your wedding,
- 42:08Speaker 1: so I don't think I can attend.
- 42:10Speaker 1: So I said, it's OK, no worries, we'll catch up
- 42:11Speaker 1: next time. It's fine, you know. And then, um, on
- 42:14Speaker 1: the 11th of April itself, I received a message from Edwin, congrats, son,
- 42:18Speaker 1: so happy for you. Then I was like,
- 42:22Speaker 1: I was like, uh, why, why did he congratulate me for?
- 42:26Speaker 1: Can I guess? Yeah, he thought the wedding was 10th
- 42:29Speaker 1: of April. Oh no, he didn't read properly, so he
- 42:34Speaker 1: thought when I said please RSVB by the 10th of April,
- 42:36Speaker 1: he thought 10th of April was the wedding day. Edwin,
- 42:40Speaker 1: were you responding while running or what? Come on, to
- 42:43Speaker 1: which I said, bro, if the wedding is on 10th
- 42:45Speaker 1: of April, why would I send you the invite like
- 42:47Speaker 1: one week before that?
- 42:49Speaker 1: Then he said, I, I thought it was a last
- 42:51Speaker 1: minute invite. I said, no, RSVV by the 10th, to
- 42:56Speaker 1: which he said, so he went back to look. Oh,
- 42:59Speaker 1: actually I'm free. I see you there.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I burst out laughing because I was like, you know what,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and he sent the same message to Jeremy, OK, because
- 43:07Speaker 1: they used to hang out last time too. He sent
- 43:09Speaker 1: the same message to which, uh, this is the difference
- 43:11Speaker 1: between bros and girls, OK. Germs replied, thanks.
- 43:17Speaker 1: OK, this one a bit too much. Jeremy. He said
- 43:19Speaker 1: he figured out roughly what happened and he couldn't be
- 43:22Speaker 1: bothered to explain, so he just said thanks, to which
- 43:25Speaker 1: I explained, I said, hey, wrong date lah, bro.
- 43:29Speaker 1: So yeah, end of story. Jeremy's replied a bit too much,
- 43:31Speaker 1: but OK, bro. Can I, can I say my piece
- 43:34Speaker 1: now please on this date, 20th April 2026. OK, I'm
- 43:40Speaker 1: very thankful as a normal human being, right, that the
- 43:44Speaker 1: only
- 43:45Speaker 1: The time you shared about your wedding was maybe the
- 43:48Speaker 1: proposal itself, which was, you know, early 2025, 1.5 years ago,
- 43:54Speaker 1: not so far away. I mean, I found out, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I shared it only early 2025. Yeah, thank you for
- 44:00Speaker 1: not milking your wedding.
- 44:03Speaker 1: No, really, thank you for not milking your wedding, giving
- 44:06Speaker 1: us useless mothership CNA headlines. OK, OK. And the only
- 44:10Speaker 1: time we're actually singing is when the wedding is almost
- 44:13Speaker 1: a month away. I mean, just to be fair, I
- 44:17Speaker 1: think there's no right or wrong way to do this
- 44:18Speaker 1: because people can be very excited. It's a big thing
- 44:20Speaker 1: in your life, right? But
- 44:22Speaker 1: I think it's, it's more tied to your personality type. Yeah,
- 44:26Speaker 1: you know me lah. I don't have time for this
- 44:28Speaker 1: kind of nonsense. So thank you very much for not
- 44:30Speaker 1: milking your wedding. I'm very proud of you as a
- 44:32Speaker 1: media personality. It shows that there is a clear distinction
- 44:35Speaker 1: between what you do publicly and what you do privately.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I think, like I said once again, no right or wrong,
- 44:42Speaker 1: you have a right to share your journey if you're
- 44:44Speaker 1: like very excited about it and if you have more
- 44:45Speaker 1: that you want to share, but I think just I'm
- 44:47Speaker 1: inherently not a very
- 44:49Speaker 1: Uh, wedding bell kind of person, you know, and I've
- 44:51Speaker 1: just never really envisioned that, oh, I must be a
- 44:54Speaker 1: princess wedding, you know, whatever, you know. I'll give you
- 44:57Speaker 1: a heads up, OK, your wedding, I'll be recording my
- 45:01Speaker 1: own roast. Oh no. So you already wait, don't please
- 45:04Speaker 1: don't tell me you prepared the roast already. All done.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm a planner. I'm a type A. I can do
- 45:08Speaker 1: it now, but no, I'll save it for the wedding
- 45:10Speaker 1: night itself. Can I ask you something? Yeah. Did you
- 45:13Speaker 1: start planning when I told you I got engaged? Yes.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Actually, I started planning a long time ago already, even
- 45:21Speaker 1: before I got engaged, because like, I mean, I know
- 45:24Speaker 1: it's going to be the man for you and you're
- 45:25Speaker 1: the woman for him as well. Thanks. So I just
- 45:27Speaker 1: start taking notes and yeah, identifying things to cho chote
- 45:31Speaker 1: you all about. My, I caught my mom trying to
- 45:34Speaker 1: ask germs some questions like over lunch. Like germs, I
- 45:37Speaker 1: need to ask you some questions. I think she's writing
- 45:38Speaker 1: a speech or so. I think they all cry. So cute.
- 45:42Speaker 1: We're all gonna cry. Very cute anyway, um, yeah, that,
- 45:45Speaker 1: that's it. I just wanted to share something funny that,
- 45:47Speaker 1: you know, miscommunication.
- 45:48Speaker 1: But um, watch out this week. The episode, first episode
- 45:51Speaker 1: drops this week. I think it might be probably Wednesday
- 45:54Speaker 1: or Thursday if I'm not wrong. What's it called? Um,
- 45:56Speaker 1: Countdown till I do. It's just Countdown till I do. Yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 1: So is nothing fancy. Sonia Chew series or is this
- 46:01Speaker 1: gonna be for everyone else's wedding as well in the future?
- 46:03Speaker 1: It's just focused on me counting. Hopefully you managed to
- 46:07Speaker 1: catch marshmallow Set recently here in Singapore. Yes, over at
- 46:11Speaker 1: Marquee Singapore. Anyway, on that note, we're gonna get out
- 46:14Speaker 1: of here, hand things over to Anne Nicole, but tomorrow
- 46:16Speaker 1: we've got a special guest.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Joining us. Yes. Speaking of public hygiene, representing Public hygiene Council,
- 46:22Speaker 1: we have Minister of State, Mr. BM King joining us
- 46:25Speaker 1: and Dr. Christina Liu, I think for what, the 3rd
- 46:28Speaker 1: time in 3 years running Sonia. There are no strangers
- 46:31Speaker 1: to our show, by the way. I feel like we
- 46:33Speaker 1: should give them their own segment by now because they're,
- 46:35Speaker 1: they're both so so well spoken. Brought to you by
- 46:37Speaker 1: the Public Hygiene Council. Why not, right? I, yeah. So
- 46:40Speaker 1: we'll catch you tomorrow. Make sure you tune in on
- 46:42Speaker 1: TikTok Live as well. We'll be there. Meantime, we'll catch
- 46:45Speaker 1: you at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
