A vibrant mural in downtown Ensley, The Color Project, is getting a stunning revival after a decade—thanks to new owners DMT and community partners. Painted in 2015 by artist Ukuu Tafari, it honors his grandmother Zula M. Dobynes, a pioneering Black woman entrepreneur who raised seven kids while running a wig shop, dressmaking business, and gospel music store. Now, Ukuu’s back to restore and enhance the artwork with dazzling metallic accents and a poem by Brian “Voice” Porter Hawkins, preserving both legacy and local spirit.
