- 1:50Speaker 3: as well too. All Right, so here we go, with
- 1:54Speaker 3: nine games left in the regular season. Would you have
- 1:58Speaker 3: taken this back in set September? The Kraken two points
- 2:03Speaker 3: back waking up today thirty two, thirty and eleven, But
- 2:08Speaker 3: they have plenty of competition San Jose winning tied with
- 2:13Speaker 3: them at seventy five points. Winnipeg now is one point ahead,
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Kings one point ahead. How big will that Winnipeg
- 2:22Speaker 3: game be next Monday? How big will the game against
- 2:25Speaker 3: the Kings be? Potentially here for the home finale. Plus also,
- 2:29Speaker 3: of course, Nashville is two points ahead for a wild
- 2:32Speaker 3: card spot.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Number two.
- 2:34Speaker 3: There are plenty of balls still up in the air
- 2:37Speaker 3: right now, coming off of one to three and to
- 2:40Speaker 3: road trip the Crake and again back home tomorrow night
- 2:43Speaker 3: against Utah seven o'clock and then Saturday Chicago, end of
- 2:48Speaker 3: two games straight at home, which will then also open.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Up three of four.
- 2:53Speaker 3: As far as games versus day Chicago, Winnipeg and Minnesota,
- 2:57Speaker 3: all right, tend to bring in out kadiski right now
- 2:59Speaker 3: here for this, and I'll begin with opening thoughts, sal
- 3:02Speaker 3: And there's there's big picture in small picture to this.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I think again, if you asked anybody back on September one,
- 3:11Speaker 3: would they take being two points out of the playoffs
- 3:14Speaker 3: on April one? The answer is yes. That's my opinion.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Meaningful hockey is here. It's captured the attention of the
- 3:22Speaker 3: Pacific Northwest. But also with attention come demands, much as expected,
- 3:29Speaker 3: and the crack and or back home after six on
- 3:31Speaker 3: the road where they went one to three and two
- 3:35Speaker 3: outscored twenty to thirteen their power play one for twelve.
- 3:40Speaker 3: They got out to a one to nothing lead just twice.
- 3:43Speaker 3: One of those games they led to nothing and squandered it.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So to me, this did not mean expectations, and I
- 3:50Speaker 3: think with that end result comes here, the harsh reality
- 3:53Speaker 3: of this. You want to make the playoffs, pull the
- 3:56Speaker 3: bootstraps up. Nine games left, five home, four on the road,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and at this point, because who you're facing on the road,
- 4:06Speaker 3: it boiled down to this imaginary drum roll Winnipeg, Minnesota,
- 4:12Speaker 3: Vegas and the Avalanche, you have got to make every
- 4:17Speaker 3: morsel of hay at home. The margin for air has
- 4:20Speaker 3: basically runouts. I think the players out understand the gravity
- 4:25Speaker 3: of this situation. I think Thursday tomorrow should bring a
- 4:29Speaker 3: lot of high energy because this time of year al
- 4:32Speaker 3: it demands nothing beneath that, it is go time.
- 4:36Speaker 2: With that, the flora is yours for your opening thoughts.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yeah, nine games left, Mikey and the krack and need
- 4:43Speaker 4: as many of these points as possible.
- 4:45Speaker 5: I wouldn't say all of them, although that would be.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Nice, But I think that if they can get fifteen
- 4:50Speaker 4: to these points, sixteen these points, I think fourteen might
- 4:54Speaker 4: be right on the edge, this team might find themselves
- 4:57Speaker 4: into a wild card two spot. Just like you outline,
- 5:01Speaker 4: there five games left at home Utah Chicago to start with,
- 5:05Speaker 4: two back to backs, and these remaining nine nine games,
- 5:08Speaker 4: Winnipeg Mini as you said, and then finishing with Vegas Colorado.
- 5:12Speaker 5: It's a gauntlet of these nine games.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a couple of easier ones in there, but
- 5:18Speaker 4: as we've seen in other easy games, and I'm doing
- 5:21Speaker 4: air quotes right now, throughout the season, it's not always
- 5:23Speaker 4: a guaranteed easy win for the Crack And they've got
- 5:25Speaker 4: to play the same way for all nine of these
- 5:27Speaker 4: games to be in them to get wins and and
- 5:32Speaker 4: minimally squeak out a point of each of these games.
- 5:35Speaker 4: So no easy games left for the boys. But listen,
- 5:39Speaker 4: it's the it's the end of the season. If you
- 5:41Speaker 4: had the grind meter those first twenty games of the season,
- 5:45Speaker 4: it's not a grind. You're figuring things out. You're figuring,
- 5:47Speaker 4: you know, you're you're gelling, you're coming together. Look at
- 5:49Speaker 4: the oilers early in the season. But in the last
- 5:52Speaker 4: ten games.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Of an eighty even just like maybe like a month
- 5:54Speaker 3: and a half ago, serious questions.
- 5:58Speaker 4: The last ten games of an eighty two game season,
- 6:00Speaker 4: the grind meter is peaking in Every single mistake can
- 6:04Speaker 4: result in a goal, and you might you might make
- 6:07Speaker 4: three mistakes and the other team might make two and
- 6:09Speaker 4: you and you lose by a goal. It's that tight
- 6:12Speaker 4: right now, which is why we call it playoff style hockey.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So all that to say that these nine games, the
- 6:18Speaker 4: crackn have to do everything in their power to play
- 6:22Speaker 4: their defensive structure, to have good to great goaltending to
- 6:26Speaker 4: keep them in the game, and they've got to be
- 6:28Speaker 4: able to capitalize on the opportunities they get because there
- 6:31Speaker 4: just aren't that many of them in these in these
- 6:34Speaker 4: later in the season games.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I just really hope that it doesn't boil down to this.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But you just go back and think of what if,
- 6:40Speaker 3: and I remember, and I go back and recall, what
- 6:44Speaker 3: if you could just squeak one, just one goal on
- 6:48Speaker 3: that game at the Islanders back end November. What if
- 6:52Speaker 3: you can just find one more and hold off Vancouver
- 6:55Speaker 3: December twenty ninth, losing that game in a shootout. What
- 6:59Speaker 3: if you found just one more goal to hold off
- 7:02Speaker 3: Minnesota already up to nothing back on January eighth. And
- 7:07Speaker 3: then what if you get a better start at Florida
- 7:11Speaker 3: from this last road trip before you finally hit pedal
- 7:14Speaker 3: to metal with a four goal third period. The little
- 7:18Speaker 3: things just add up over time, And I mean you
- 7:21Speaker 3: take a little bit here and there, all of a
- 7:23Speaker 3: sudden you're possibly finding yourself on the way inside here
- 7:26Speaker 3: for this playoff picture.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yeah no, I think that that's what you often do
- 7:31Speaker 4: when you come so close to that cut line but
- 7:33Speaker 4: don't make it. As you go back and look at
- 7:34Speaker 4: those games and you play the what if game, I
- 7:37Speaker 4: hope the Cracking are not going to be in that position,
- 7:39Speaker 4: But you just call out a bunch of them where
- 7:41Speaker 4: you know you expect to get wins or minimally points
- 7:44Speaker 4: in those games, but you don't, and you think, okay,
- 7:47Speaker 4: well that's one. Well there's another one, there's another one,
- 7:49Speaker 4: and they start to add up, and then you think,
- 7:51Speaker 4: over the course of an a two game season, there
- 7:53Speaker 4: might be ten to twenty points in there that you
- 7:56Speaker 4: feel like you should have gotten. Now, there are other
- 7:59Speaker 4: games where you come out on top, like a car
- 8:01Speaker 4: a two to one Carolina win. Yeah's on that coming.
- 8:03Speaker 4: But that was a big win for the boys. So
- 8:06Speaker 4: there are certainly games that go the other way as well.
- 8:09Speaker 4: The recent to Ot win in Tampa was a big one.
- 8:12Speaker 4: You get those other games as well, where the oddsmakers
- 8:15Speaker 4: say Cracking won't have a chance in this one. And
- 8:17Speaker 4: they pull out a win. So hopefully it balances out
- 8:20Speaker 4: over in an eighty two game season, but it's hard
- 8:22Speaker 4: not to play that what if game if the Crack
- 8:24Speaker 4: And fall short short by a point or two.
- 8:26Speaker 3: We're going to get to your mail bag questions here
- 8:28Speaker 3: a little bit later on. Find me at Twitter, at
- 8:30Speaker 3: next at Benton Underscore Mic, also the crack and Audio
- 8:33Speaker 3: Network at Cracking Audio Network and also, by the way,
- 8:35Speaker 3: while you're at a Givel'll follow here by the way
- 8:37Speaker 3: at al Kiniski in case you're not done. Just that,
- 8:40Speaker 3: always looking for more here to build the brand. As
- 8:43Speaker 3: we say, I will talk highs of this trip and
- 8:47Speaker 3: loads of this trip. Al First off, the high for me,
- 8:50Speaker 3: of course, it's obvious the win in Tampa, but there
- 8:52Speaker 3: there was also the light at the end of the
- 8:54Speaker 3: tunnel in Florida. Then there's Bobby McMahon producing like he's
- 8:59Speaker 3: going to rightfully earn the bag.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And then there's Coppocaco in there as well.
- 9:04Speaker 3: The lows of this basically for me, boiled down to
- 9:07Speaker 3: the sluggish start in Nashville. That was the first game
- 9:09Speaker 3: you had to really make a big impression and the
- 9:11Speaker 3: Kraken got only one goal.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Out of that.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Then there was a sleepwalk in Columbus. I mean, Florida,
- 9:16Speaker 3: you're behind the eight ball. To me, the bottom line is,
- 9:20Speaker 3: once again, you cannot chase games in the NHL. And
- 9:24Speaker 3: there were several players that I'm curious how they rebound
- 9:28Speaker 3: coming into this first home game in a while, because
- 9:31Speaker 3: I mean, this last six game trip it was tough.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I mean you go back and look, Jordan Eberley just
- 9:38Speaker 3: two points in six games, Matty Beniers just one goal
- 9:42Speaker 3: and that was it in six games. Jared mccannon was heard,
- 9:45Speaker 3: came back in, but then no goals in three games.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So I mean, you've got to have your top line
- 9:50Speaker 3: find a way to hit a next level here. But
- 9:53Speaker 3: this is again, this has to be once more the
- 9:56Speaker 3: collective effort chipping in just like and I'll use the
- 9:59Speaker 3: example Bobby McMahon, Chandler Stevenson, Coppocaco.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean those guys are clicking right now, and
- 10:07Speaker 4: and you know you need that leadership from a broader
- 10:10Speaker 4: group of guys to again go out and get as
- 10:13Speaker 4: many of these points as possible. But that game in Florida,
- 10:16Speaker 4: the Boys making a comeback in the third period goals
- 10:19Speaker 4: by McMahon goals by every beniers and ranker Evans to
- 10:22Speaker 4: start it off.
- 10:23Speaker 5: That was a huge character builder.
- 10:25Speaker 4: I'm not surprised that they went into Tampa and played
- 10:28Speaker 4: some of the best hockey we've seen all season and
- 10:30Speaker 4: pulled in an overtime win because of what happened in
- 10:33Speaker 4: that third period in Florida. But I think you need
- 10:37Speaker 4: more contributions. You need contributions from your top nine guys.
- 10:41Speaker 4: You need that that third line contributing, need an impactful
- 10:45Speaker 4: fourth line. The crackermer getting pushed around a little bit
- 10:48Speaker 4: last game. You could see it on the on the
- 10:50Speaker 4: hit charts, and you wonder sometimes that Jacob Lnson not
- 10:53Speaker 4: be in the lineup, what effect does that have. But
- 10:56Speaker 4: you know they've been putting in a lot of shots
- 10:59Speaker 4: on goal lately. Interestingly, one of the lowest shot shots
- 11:02Speaker 4: on goal totals in the last handful of game is
- 11:05Speaker 4: that overtime win in Tampa.
- 11:06Speaker 5: So you know, quality over quantity. Yeah, I'd always take.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Quality because I just feel like if you're getting pucks
- 11:14Speaker 4: to the net, you never know what it's going to
- 11:16Speaker 4: deflect off of. You never know what kind of a
- 11:18Speaker 4: rebound's going to be given up, and if you're just
- 11:20Speaker 4: waiting for that perfect opportunity to shoot, it may never come.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I mean, and this is also I think what stings.
- 11:26Speaker 3: From last night losing three nothing at Edmonton, because again,
- 11:31Speaker 3: if you're keeping Edmonton to under twenty five shots, if
- 11:33Speaker 3: you're keeping Connor McDavid, the best player on the planet,
- 11:36Speaker 3: off the board except for an empty net goal, nine
- 11:39Speaker 3: times out of ten, you're in position to win. But
- 11:41Speaker 3: the Crack unfortunately couldn't get anything going.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I mean that those were two of my keys, right
- 11:47Speaker 4: there was Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard and other than
- 11:50Speaker 4: an empty net goal for McDavid held off the board.
- 11:53Speaker 4: But you got Max Jones getting his third goal of
- 11:56Speaker 4: the season in the Aespire cabinet, I think he had
- 11:58Speaker 4: his eighth that got it for the Edmonton owners. That's
- 12:01Speaker 4: what happens when you get depth scoring, is everybody focuses
- 12:05Speaker 4: on those top two lines, on that top defenseman at
- 12:08Speaker 4: Evan Bouchard, and your third or fourth lines.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Go out and get it done. That's what you need
- 12:13Speaker 5: this time of year.
- 12:15Speaker 3: We're gonna get to also our reaction with Adam Larson
- 12:18Speaker 3: because tomorrow night is going to be a big one
- 12:20Speaker 3: for him to begin or before opening face off, or
- 12:23Speaker 3: he'll be saluted for his one thousandth career NHL game.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Philip Grubauer also a not for him for playing in
- 12:29Speaker 3: career game number four hundred and certainly deserve better in
- 12:33Speaker 3: that loss to Edmonton. But I also go back to
- 12:37Speaker 3: round period two al where I think right before the
- 12:41Speaker 3: defining moment of this game, and which was the squadroned
- 12:44Speaker 3: power play with McDavid in the box. There was also
- 12:47Speaker 3: a bit of a shuffle Berkeley Catton on the top
- 12:49Speaker 3: line then was moved to line three. Jared McCann goes
- 12:53Speaker 3: right back up, and we heard Lane Lambert say, for
- 12:56Speaker 3: as long as Catton is doing the right things, of course,
- 12:59Speaker 3: production is a spected but as long as he's doing
- 13:01Speaker 3: the right things, he's got a long leash on that
- 13:03Speaker 3: top line.
- 13:04Speaker 2: We saw the switch. How long do you see this
- 13:08Speaker 2: staying put as is?
- 13:11Speaker 4: Well, it's a question of production. You cannot be on
- 13:14Speaker 4: the top line in the ANHL and not produce. And
- 13:16Speaker 4: I'm not talking about just your your center or your
- 13:20Speaker 4: top center. It's got to be all three guys. All
- 13:23Speaker 4: three guys need to be contributing on the goals. And
- 13:26Speaker 4: assists column. If they're not, you're going to look at
- 13:28Speaker 4: somebody else that's maybe having some success on lines two
- 13:31Speaker 4: or three and move them in there. So that line
- 13:33Speaker 4: went out didn't have a lot of success in that
- 13:35Speaker 4: Edmonton game. Jared McCann back from injury. I believe it
- 13:38Speaker 4: was the second game back. I think Lane Lambert saw
- 13:42Speaker 4: some of the history with the success that he's had
- 13:44Speaker 4: with Veneers and Everly and wanted to try and pull
- 13:47Speaker 4: it out to get something going there in that game,
- 13:50Speaker 4: and that's why he made the switch. So I think
- 13:53Speaker 4: it was more about trying to generate more and less
- 13:56Speaker 4: about Berkeley Catton and maybe what he was not doing.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I think Berkeley Catten can have success on any of
- 14:02Speaker 4: the top three lines, but certainly when he's playing with
- 14:04Speaker 4: Viniars and Everley, you see him playing towards the top
- 14:07Speaker 4: of his game.
- 14:08Speaker 3: And see I think also that this goes here to
- 14:10Speaker 3: the point where about five years from now, we're a
- 14:12Speaker 3: little bit I think more critical about production or no
- 14:16Speaker 3: production from Berkeley Catton and where we are now. And again,
- 14:18Speaker 3: don't get me wrong, this isn't the case that we're
- 14:21Speaker 3: trying to, you know, treat him with kid gloves here
- 14:23Speaker 3: in this case, because I mean, again, you play in
- 14:25Speaker 3: the NHL, it is a result driven business. But with
- 14:28Speaker 3: Berkeley Catton, he's coming in earlier this year, nineteen now
- 14:32Speaker 3: twenty years of age. It's a hard league to adapt to,
- 14:34Speaker 3: the greatest league in the entire world as far as
- 14:37Speaker 3: this game is concerned. So it's like going from say
- 14:41Speaker 3: entry level history and college to like all of a sudden,
- 14:44Speaker 3: you know, level four hundred with playing this game, the pace,
- 14:47Speaker 3: the processing, all of that stuff.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But the point I'm getting at here is that he's.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Doing so many right things with the Puck's just the
- 14:57Speaker 3: finish that is yet to find him on a consistent basis.
- 15:01Speaker 3: But that comes with time, and that comes also with age.
- 15:05Speaker 4: And I think that when you see some of the
- 15:07Speaker 4: players come out of the draft that step right into
- 15:10Speaker 4: NHL roles, that's one of the biggest differences is they
- 15:13Speaker 4: have that confidence right away and their ability to contribute,
- 15:16Speaker 4: their ability to shoot the puck, their ability to play
- 15:18Speaker 4: at the NHL level, And I think Berkeley.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Has a lot of that already in place.
- 15:23Speaker 4: I still think he's developing his confidence with the puck
- 15:26Speaker 4: when it comes to shooting, not necessarily passing. He's trying
- 15:29Speaker 4: to figure out the soft areas and his linemates and
- 15:31Speaker 4: where they're going to be and set them up accordingly.
- 15:33Speaker 4: But the last couple of games he said, the puck
- 15:35Speaker 4: in the slot, the low slot area, and he surprised
- 15:39Speaker 4: me looking for a pass a couple of times. And
- 15:42Speaker 4: I just think that's a lack of confidence in your
- 15:45Speaker 4: ability to put that puck up. Jared mccannon's not passing
- 15:47Speaker 4: that puck. Jared mccannon is firing that puck. Bobby McMahon
- 15:51Speaker 4: is firing that puck. And I think that Berkeley Catten
- 15:55Speaker 4: needs to get where, you know, eighty percent of the time,
- 15:58Speaker 4: ninety percent of the time he's firing that puck as well.
- 16:00Speaker 4: And it might not be a snipe, but it might
- 16:02Speaker 4: turn into a juicy rebound for somebody.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Tonight, My goodness, it is such a big scoreboard watching night.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Just three games in the NHL, two of them on
- 16:13Speaker 3: the West Coast, one already underway, Kings and Blues, Sharks
- 16:18Speaker 3: and Ducks getting underway at about right now. San Jose
- 16:22Speaker 3: is still hanging around this and many thought that they
- 16:25Speaker 3: were dead about roughly a week ago, but they're all
- 16:28Speaker 3: of a Sudden now tied with the Kraken despite the
- 16:30Speaker 3: crack and having one game in hand on them. Tonight
- 16:34Speaker 3: they will take on the na Or they are taking
- 16:37Speaker 3: on the Anaheim Ducks. Kings underway with the Saint Louis Blues.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Saint Louis is still two points back. Crazy enough here,
- 16:44Speaker 3: but the Kings the biggest concern right now, one point
- 16:48Speaker 3: ahead of the Krakend. They each have played seventy three
- 16:51Speaker 3: games so far. So I'll give it to me which
- 16:53Speaker 3: team scares you the most here in these last roughly
- 16:56Speaker 3: two and a half weeks the season.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Well, I gotta look at that. With the talent they
- 17:01Speaker 4: have on that team, you know they can. They can
- 17:03Speaker 4: pull through a lot of difficult games, starting with Celebrini
- 17:08Speaker 4: on the front end. But yeah, you're right, four teams
- 17:12Speaker 4: l A, Winnipeg Sounds and of course the Kraken all
- 17:15Speaker 4: trying to fight for one likely one wild card spot,
- 17:19Speaker 4: with which the Predators now hold, and everybody's one or
- 17:21Speaker 4: two points away from tying that spot. So I mean,
- 17:24Speaker 4: it's it's going to be a grind right till the
- 17:26Speaker 4: final game game of the season.
- 17:28Speaker 2: And all you're saying is here for LA and Saint Louis.
- 17:31Speaker 3: No three point game, no three point game, no, no three.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Point game regulation.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Before we get to break and get to Alison Luke
- 17:43Speaker 3: and we will talk a little bit more about Adam Morrison,
- 17:45Speaker 3: but I want to get our initial thoughts here on
- 17:47Speaker 3: this as will be saluted for a one thousandth NHL
- 17:51Speaker 3: game and similar breadth as the Kraken and the Pacific
- 17:54Speaker 3: Northwest Faith will have saluted. Jordan Eberley. Also back in
- 17:58Speaker 3: the expansion year, Marcher Dana was, well, the one thing
- 18:01Speaker 3: that has always, you know, gripped me about Adam Larson is,
- 18:06Speaker 3: of course, there's the trademark toughness, there's the trademark quiet
- 18:10Speaker 3: strength that he brings. But it's also the sneaky sense
- 18:15Speaker 3: of humor that you can, I think, really really get
- 18:18Speaker 3: used to and understand where it comes from once you
- 18:22Speaker 3: are around him in the dressing room, say after practice,
- 18:25Speaker 3: say after morning skate. I think for me, one one
- 18:28Speaker 3: classic example is say if I'm talking with Vince Dunn
- 18:32Speaker 3: and he sits by his stall, has sat there for virtually,
- 18:35Speaker 3: you know, his entire Craken career, what you at least
- 18:39Speaker 3: try to do and I'm kind of peeling back the
- 18:40Speaker 3: curtain here is you know, when you're in you're in
- 18:43Speaker 3: your in an interview situation, usually a scrub means you
- 18:46Speaker 3: just huddle around the player and you're kind of like
- 18:48Speaker 3: in like a half circle. If it's a one on
- 18:50Speaker 3: one situation, that that that it's also kind of what
- 18:53Speaker 3: you know, the the sandbox I play in, so to speak,
- 18:56Speaker 3: where you're looking to bank, you know, conversations here for
- 18:59Speaker 3: our broadcast coverage, et cetera, podcasting as well when you're
- 19:03Speaker 3: in a one on one situation. To me, shoulder to
- 19:06Speaker 3: shoulder means a lot more where you can, you know,
- 19:08Speaker 3: find a way to have a level of conversation with
- 19:12Speaker 3: not just the athlete, but also the human being. So
- 19:15Speaker 3: for me, there are two things I pay attention to.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Is one the course of the conversation and two stay
- 19:21Speaker 3: out of the way of the guy who's coming in
- 19:23Speaker 3: in his stall right balking to me. I have briefed
- 19:28Speaker 3: this a couple of times on accident. A lot of
- 19:31Speaker 3: forgiveness has been delivered my way, which I appreciate. But
- 19:35Speaker 3: a couple of times I've seen the big cat walk
- 19:38Speaker 3: in as I'm delivering question one or two events done,
- 19:40Speaker 3: and I just got to get up and say I'm sorry.
- 19:44Speaker 3: He looks at me like, nah, no, no, but he's
- 19:46Speaker 3: just kidding. The That to me is a quintessential Adam
- 19:49Speaker 3: Marson experience quiet strength, but quiet and the sneaky sense
- 19:54Speaker 3: of humor.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Well, I'll tell you when he hit his A thousands
- 19:58Speaker 4: of game a few games ago, his wife was in
- 20:01Speaker 4: town to celebrate and had a chance to meet her
- 20:03Speaker 4: at the hotel. And and I know Everett's told this
- 20:05Speaker 4: story as well, but she's always surprised to hear other
- 20:09Speaker 4: people talk about how quiet he is. And she says,
- 20:12Speaker 4: he's a goofball at home. He's he's the he's he's
- 20:14Speaker 4: the guy making all the jokes. He's the he's the
- 20:17Speaker 4: externally funny guy. And uh, I you know, for whatever reason,
- 20:22Speaker 4: we don't get a chance to see as much of that.
- 20:23Speaker 5: But you're right when you do. Uh, when you do.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Get a little bit close, a little too close to
- 20:28Speaker 4: Adam Larson, some of that humor starts to rub off and.
- 20:31Speaker 5: You can.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, you get yourself and look at him, go
- 20:36Speaker 4: that was funny. You know, I I I listen. I
- 20:41Speaker 4: love the family man he's become. I love the the
- 20:43Speaker 4: ambassador of the game. He's becoming Seattle. I love his
- 20:46Speaker 4: game itself. He leads his team in blocked shots. And yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 4: you can lead the team and goals and assists and
- 20:53Speaker 4: shot and shots, But when you're leading the team in
- 20:56Speaker 4: block shots throwing your body in front of a pucket,
- 20:59Speaker 4: if you're if you your position is not goaltender, you're
- 21:02Speaker 4: a brave soul. And Adam Larson is that guy. He
- 21:05Speaker 4: stopped so many shots of getting through to the to
- 21:08Speaker 4: the net of Grubauer and Decord over the past few seasons.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I think they own at least a couple of steak dinners.
- 21:14Speaker 2: He is such a quintessential pro.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Again, his body takes a beating for the kind of
- 21:18Speaker 3: job that he has to do, but he shows up
- 21:20Speaker 3: every game and the only game, the only time that
- 21:22Speaker 3: ended a consecutive games played streak for a pretty good reason,
- 21:26Speaker 3: and the best reason the birth of his daughter, Albus.
- 21:29Speaker 2: So are slow here to Adam Larson.
- 21:31Speaker 3: He'll be again saluted by the home faithful tomorrow night
- 21:34Speaker 3: at Climate Pledgerina. Before the opening faceoff for his one
- 21:36Speaker 3: thousandth career NHL game, played all right, our Crack and
- 21:39Speaker 3: Whitley poll question, when nine games left, what do you
- 21:43Speaker 3: think is the biggest game of the year. Is it
- 21:46Speaker 3: tomorrow night against Utah? Is it next Monday at Winnipeg?
- 21:51Speaker 3: Is it the home finale against Los Angeles Kings Or
- 21:54Speaker 3: is it Game eighty two regular season finale against the
- 21:59Speaker 3: call Rotto Avalanche in Rocky Mountain High Allison Luke in

- 24:06Speaker 3: She's working hard. She's Alison Lucan Alison, without further ado, Hi,
- 24:09Speaker 3: how are you.
- 24:11Speaker 6: I'm great, Thanks for having me, guys, happy.
- 24:13Speaker 2: To be here any time here.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I wish we were talking about, of course, a
- 24:18Speaker 3: son of your picture after last night and a lost
- 24:21Speaker 3: to Edmonton, but coming off of three nothing loss, a
- 24:25Speaker 3: day off here to recalibrate before two games at home, Allison,
- 24:28Speaker 3: give us your state of the Crack and right now
- 24:30Speaker 3: with nine games left.
- 24:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think everyone's seeing what's happening and
- 24:36Speaker 7: feeling the joy and despair that is this time of year.
- 24:40Speaker 6: You know, I think let's start a big picture.
- 24:43Speaker 7: I think that even I was saying going into this season,
- 24:46Speaker 7: if this was a team that could get to a
- 24:48Speaker 7: place that was playing meaningful hockey in late March and April,
- 24:51Speaker 7: we would all be thrilled. So I think we have
- 24:54Speaker 7: to big picture, appreciate that small picture.
- 24:58Speaker 6: You know.
- 24:58Speaker 7: The team has said coach Ambert has said, this is
- 25:01Speaker 7: playoff hockey for them now, and in playoff hockey, scoring
- 25:04Speaker 7: drives up, everything gets tighter, and that's what's happening to
- 25:08Speaker 7: the Crack. And I don't mind a ton of how
- 25:11Speaker 7: they played versus Edmonton, but they.
- 25:13Speaker 6: Just couldn't score.
- 25:14Speaker 7: They couldn't put the puck in the net, and some
- 25:16Speaker 7: small mistakes against some skilled players really burned them. I
- 25:20Speaker 7: think that once this season is over, this team is
- 25:25Speaker 7: going to have earned what they get. You know, there's
- 25:28Speaker 7: been some key games and we can all point to
- 25:30Speaker 7: some of them that I think were missed opportunities that
- 25:33Speaker 7: make now a game like last night have higher importance
- 25:37Speaker 7: than maybe it had to have if they'd started a
- 25:39Speaker 7: little bit better coming out of that Olympic break in particular.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll get to hear for the you know, the
- 25:44Speaker 3: just following up on that was six games on the road,
- 25:47Speaker 3: that's all done. You know, we saw maybe the emission
- 25:49Speaker 3: of guilt with getting out of the gate against teams
- 25:52Speaker 3: like Nashville, Columbus and Florida, and then the fire was
- 25:55Speaker 3: lit in Florida and then that led into the big
- 25:59Speaker 3: overtime when at Tampa. So what do you think that
- 26:01Speaker 3: we learned maybe about those six games affecting how the
- 26:05Speaker 3: crack and had to approach the.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Final nine left here with road.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Games still left in Winnipeg, Minnesota, Vegas and Colorado.
- 26:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean again, how to approach is the time
- 26:17Speaker 7: for tweaking things is done well passed, and we all
- 26:20Speaker 7: here intimately know that practice time is at a premium
- 26:23Speaker 7: as well. I think that you know and we all
- 26:27Speaker 7: know this also that you have to lead by example.
- 26:30Speaker 7: And I think particularly in that game in Tampa, you
- 26:32Speaker 7: know Brandon montor Chandler Stevenson. I'll even put Maddie Benier's
- 26:36Speaker 7: in this category, and Philip Grubauer too. We're seeing some
- 26:40Speaker 7: players who know what this time of year means and
- 26:44Speaker 7: what it takes take it to another level. And I
- 26:48Speaker 7: think that now the challenge is to the rest of
- 26:50Speaker 7: this roster, and no one's you know, phoning it in
- 26:53Speaker 7: or not trying to play well.
- 26:55Speaker 6: But this is about leveling up.
- 26:57Speaker 7: And really I talked to some guys when they here
- 27:00Speaker 7: the other day and someone said to me, it comes
- 27:03Speaker 7: from the fact that I hate to lose even more
- 27:06Speaker 7: than I care about winning, and that switch needs to
- 27:10Speaker 7: flip for more players than the few that I mentioned.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Alison.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Despite to where the krack and are right now two
- 27:17Speaker 4: points sort of a wild card spot, they have injected
- 27:21Speaker 4: some life into their lineup since the Olympic break. Talk
- 27:24Speaker 4: a little bit about Coppocaco and Philip Grubauer coming off
- 27:28Speaker 4: the Olympic break, and also the addition of Bobby McMahon.
- 27:31Speaker 4: I know that he's been on a terrorism late.
- 27:34Speaker 6: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 27:35Speaker 7: I mean Bobby McMahon has been I've argued this and
- 27:39Speaker 7: perhaps the best trade deadline move across.
- 27:42Speaker 6: The league this season.
- 27:44Speaker 7: I mean you could suggest in terms of fit and
- 27:47Speaker 7: also production, I think he's been fantastic.
- 27:50Speaker 6: I like the way he plays.
- 27:51Speaker 7: I think that the simpleness of his game, and I
- 27:54Speaker 7: mean that is a compliment, makes him easy to play with.
- 27:57Speaker 7: He's direct, he's not afraid to shoot, he's not afraid
- 28:00Speaker 7: to go to the net, and we've seen his speed
- 28:02Speaker 7: on display as well, and so I think when a
- 28:04Speaker 7: player comes in and plays that way, again easy to
- 28:07Speaker 7: play with, but also easy to see the impact. And
- 28:10Speaker 7: when we talk about players kind of pulling each other
- 28:13Speaker 7: into the fight, I think his style does that. And
- 28:16Speaker 7: to your point, Coppo and you know Grubauer, I think
- 28:19Speaker 7: these are two players who in some ways, and I
- 28:22Speaker 7: think we see this on the men's and women's side.
- 28:25Speaker 6: The Olympics are this.
- 28:26Speaker 7: Amazing, awesome thing and you love that players get to
- 28:29Speaker 7: do it. But then it's almost like an exhale when
- 28:31Speaker 7: they're done right, because there's been competing things pulling at you,
- 28:35Speaker 7: competing loves pulling at you. And I think for Grubauer,
- 28:38Speaker 7: you know, having more regular play going into the Olympics,
- 28:41Speaker 7: playing well at the Olympics really sets him up to
- 28:45Speaker 7: now be solid first time with three straight starts this season,
- 28:48Speaker 7: just last night and then Coppo, same kind of trajectory.
- 28:52Speaker 7: I think he found confidence being back with his fellow fins.
- 28:55Speaker 7: And I think also for him it's health right, it's
- 28:58Speaker 7: just consistent reps and health. It will stop start for
- 29:01Speaker 7: him so much at the start of this season. I
- 29:04Speaker 7: think we're just seeing him hit his stride with support
- 29:07Speaker 7: of a great Olympics performance because he's healthy and now
- 29:11Speaker 7: can do what the team needs him to do.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Allison Luke and joining us here at the Beacon Plumbing
- 29:15Speaker 3: hotline right now and another Olympian that I'll get to
- 29:18Speaker 3: maybe a bit more under the radar, but I mean,
- 29:20Speaker 3: my goodness, he goes out and plays there and overall
- 29:23Speaker 3: it seems like he doesn't skip a bea coming back up.
- 29:25Speaker 3: That's Oscar fisk Er Molegard and we'll see at the
- 29:28Speaker 3: front office as different plans, But I mean, I love
- 29:31Speaker 3: how he is fitting in right now from the overall
- 29:34Speaker 3: scope of things, But what does this last stretch of
- 29:37Speaker 3: games potentially you think mean for him for this next season?
- 29:41Speaker 3: And then what's impressed maybe you the most here about
- 29:43Speaker 3: what he's brought coming back up.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think for him personally and individually,
- 29:49Speaker 7: I think he's got to feel good right because he's
- 29:51Speaker 7: being used more. Lane Lambert was clear about that we're
- 29:54Speaker 7: going to give him more ice time than what he
- 29:56Speaker 7: saw that first couple of times he came up, So
- 29:59Speaker 7: he's got to feel c confident. And I think this
- 30:01Speaker 7: is a player, to Al's point, that did benefit from
- 30:04Speaker 7: an Olympic experience. I talked to Oliver Buorick Strand when
- 30:06Speaker 7: Tampa Bay was here, and he was very impressed with
- 30:09Speaker 7: what Oscar did in the Olympics with their country's team.
- 30:12Speaker 7: So I think he did get that confidence boost, and
- 30:15Speaker 7: I think this is an important step in his development
- 30:18Speaker 7: as far as what he's doing right now. You know,
- 30:20Speaker 7: I like how he's playing, he doesn't he He has
- 30:22Speaker 7: a confidence, a simple quiet confidence to the way he
- 30:26Speaker 7: plays that I really appreciate. I also appreciate how well
- 30:30Speaker 7: he reads plays, he knows where to be, he knows
- 30:33Speaker 7: how to break up opportunities, break up possession, and I
- 30:36Speaker 7: think he has an offensive mind to him too, coupled
- 30:39Speaker 7: with that defensive responsibility. I think, is this a player
- 30:42Speaker 7: who maybe still continues to move, you know, back and
- 30:45Speaker 7: forth between AHL and the NHL.
- 30:46Speaker 6: For a little bit more sure And is that a
- 30:49Speaker 6: bad thing?
- 30:49Speaker 7: Absolutely not, because he's he's really proving to be one
- 30:52Speaker 7: of those solid types of players that can really help
- 30:55Speaker 7: make a solid NHL roster long term.
- 30:59Speaker 4: So with nine gyme left, eighteen points in the line,
- 31:01Speaker 4: I look at the last five Allison and I see
- 31:04Speaker 4: twenty shots on goal in Tampa Bay and that was
- 31:06Speaker 4: the the OT winner. It seems to me, and this
- 31:09Speaker 4: is this is where my questions. It seems to me
- 31:11Speaker 4: that this team has success when they play from their
- 31:14Speaker 4: own posts out But you know the numbers better than anybody.
- 31:18Speaker 4: What do you think about that?
- 31:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's funny because if you go quote
- 31:22Speaker 7: unquote by the numbers, and it's funny. This is a
- 31:24Speaker 7: Laine Lambert team. When he was hired. I looked at
- 31:26Speaker 7: his Islanders team and it's very similar. They kind of
- 31:30Speaker 7: defy what common knowledge thinks, and to me, that's a
- 31:34Speaker 7: trigger to say, there's something missing in what we're doing
- 31:36Speaker 7: with the numbers right now, and it's measuring how defense
- 31:40Speaker 7: to offense.
- 31:41Speaker 6: Really can be effective. We aren't. We can't. They are
- 31:44Speaker 6: being outshot on the regular this team, and they are
- 31:47Speaker 6: usually a.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Low shot count to your point, but they have won
- 31:50Speaker 7: a lot this year playing that way.
- 31:52Speaker 6: So in this case, to me, and.
- 31:55Speaker 7: I've said this on air, like at this point, I
- 31:57Speaker 7: don't necessarily look so much at the shot count with
- 32:00Speaker 7: this group. I look at what they're doing defensively, and
- 32:02Speaker 7: I look at how confident they are with the puck
- 32:06Speaker 7: and in their transition play, and those things aren't available publicly.
- 32:10Speaker 7: I can see some of that. But you know again,
- 32:12Speaker 7: I think teams like this, the flip side of that
- 32:15Speaker 7: is the Carolina team that shoots every single thing they can,
- 32:18Speaker 7: and that doesn't necessarily tell the story of how they
- 32:21Speaker 7: win either. So I think if the kracking can continue
- 32:25Speaker 7: to find success in the way they play, those of
- 32:27Speaker 7: us who look at numbers should be challenged to say,
- 32:30Speaker 7: what are we missing because these numbers don't support what
- 32:32Speaker 7: they're doing, but they're doing something, which means we're not
- 32:34Speaker 7: measuring the right things.
- 32:35Speaker 3: In this instance, you can call the Pacific Division maybe crazy,
- 32:39Speaker 3: you can call a chaotic. Connor mc david will call
- 32:42Speaker 3: it a pillow fight here. But I mean, in this
- 32:45Speaker 3: whole scope, you still have the kings hanging around this
- 32:48Speaker 3: picture right now, San Jose. They're hanging on for dear life.
- 32:51Speaker 3: But what maybe surprised you the most about how this
- 32:54Speaker 3: division has unfolded at this point of the season.
- 32:56Speaker 7: I mean, I think it's literally just the lack of
- 32:59Speaker 7: like someone coming up and seizing this thing right like
- 33:03Speaker 7: it's crazy. Honestly, I think what surprised me is Anaheim.
- 33:08Speaker 7: I saw them as a team coming up, and I
- 33:12Speaker 7: do think and this is they're going to be good
- 33:16Speaker 7: long term because of how they've been built, but they're
- 33:18Speaker 7: not necessarily great defensively yet a little similar to Sam Jose,
- 33:21Speaker 7: but a different vibe and so, but it surprised me
- 33:24Speaker 7: that they've been able to claim to the number one
- 33:27Speaker 7: spot like they have good for them. And then I've
- 33:30Speaker 7: also been surprised by how lack of days ago Vegas
- 33:33Speaker 7: has gone about taking care of their business this year,
- 33:35Speaker 7: and we see they get a coaching change as a result.
- 33:39Speaker 6: But yeah, I think overall this division.
- 33:41Speaker 7: And I think that's part of what you know, maybe
- 33:44Speaker 7: Krack and fans are feeling too, is that in a
- 33:46Speaker 7: division where no one's laying claim to it, come on
- 33:48Speaker 7: cracking just right and they'll be the team that steps up.
- 33:52Speaker 6: So yeah, a weird year, A weird year for sure
- 33:55Speaker 6: in this division.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the goalscoring differentials plus ten for edmund
- 34:00Speaker 4: ten and plus twenty.
- 34:01Speaker 5: Yeah, it's insane.
- 34:03Speaker 4: And to me, you know, if you take out Edmonton
- 34:04Speaker 4: obviously Connor McDavid there, it could just be, you know,
- 34:08Speaker 4: a lack of high performance scoring that has these coupled
- 34:12Speaker 4: with goaltending that has a lot of these teams in
- 34:14Speaker 4: the red that are still making playoff positions. Nashville Predators
- 34:17Speaker 4: dash twenty six goals, franchill and they're in the wild
- 34:20Speaker 4: card two spot right now. So what do you see
- 34:23Speaker 4: is the secret sauce here of these last nine elis.
- 34:25Speaker 4: And obviously we talked a little bit about defense and
- 34:27Speaker 4: playing from the posts out I think that's huge, But
- 34:30Speaker 4: what are the crawd What are the three things that
- 34:32Speaker 4: Krack can have to do to get as many of
- 34:34Speaker 4: these points left on the table.
- 34:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I think taking care of the puck
- 34:38Speaker 7: is key. I mean, and you know, again this is
- 34:40Speaker 7: not Adam Larson did not lose that game last night,
- 34:43Speaker 7: but you know, Adam Larson has a turnover and that
- 34:46Speaker 7: eventually leads to a second goal against.
- 34:48Speaker 6: That makes it that much harder to dig out.
- 34:50Speaker 7: And I think we saw this in the game versus
- 34:52Speaker 7: Columbus as well, just a lack of puck management. I
- 34:55Speaker 7: think that's what I hear as well when we hear
- 34:58Speaker 7: Coach Lambert say things about not getting to fancy. We
- 35:01Speaker 7: don't need a fancy pass. We don't need you to
- 35:03Speaker 7: try the extra move or the extra pass. Just get
- 35:06Speaker 7: to where you need to be and shoot the puck
- 35:07Speaker 7: or get out of your zone. Do the task at hand.
- 35:10Speaker 7: That's number one for me. Number two for me is
- 35:13Speaker 7: consistent goaltending continuing. That's really been such a big part
- 35:17Speaker 7: of what this team did all season. And I'm certainly
- 35:20Speaker 7: not saying it's falling off, but it has to stay
- 35:22Speaker 7: solid and then and I think we all talked about
- 35:25Speaker 7: this yesterday, you know, seeing the shooting mentality.
- 35:28Speaker 6: They picked it up in the second and third periods.
- 35:30Speaker 7: But this is a team that does have to work
- 35:33Speaker 7: hard to get it scoring chances, so when you get
- 35:35Speaker 7: them again, don't take the extra pass, don't hesitate, don't
- 35:39Speaker 7: dust it off unless you absolutely have to. To settle
- 35:41Speaker 7: the puck. Shoot everything you can towards the net.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I moved down the hallway, so to speak. As far
- 35:46Speaker 3: as the hockey conversation here, of course, your work with
- 35:48Speaker 3: the PWUHL tour and fantastic as usual, by the way,
- 35:51Speaker 3: but they just get hillarvery night back from the mcl
- 35:54Speaker 3: scare at the Olympics. I mean, tough news a Hannah
- 35:57Speaker 3: Bilka being out for the season. I love watching her play,
- 35:59Speaker 3: but first off, what's the overall scope of this, Dallas,
- 36:03Speaker 3: And as far as what the Winter Olympics, did hear
- 36:06Speaker 3: the women's gold medal and how much that helped the
- 36:08Speaker 3: game's exposure around here?
- 36:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's been amazing, right.
- 36:12Speaker 7: I think that you know, Hillary has said this and
- 36:15Speaker 7: she would know even better than I that that was
- 36:17Speaker 7: perhaps the best team USA ever assembled, her team that
- 36:21Speaker 7: she captained, and they just steamrolled through those Olympic Games.
- 36:25Speaker 7: It was awesome to watch. And then I think coupled
- 36:29Speaker 7: with the effect that you know on the women's side
- 36:31Speaker 7: the men's side, you've always been able to if you
- 36:32Speaker 7: wanted to watch hockey around the world, there were places
- 36:35Speaker 7: to go do that. Prior to the PWHL, there really
- 36:39Speaker 7: wasn't an easily accessible way for that to happen. You
- 36:41Speaker 7: saw this team, you got excited, and then four years
- 36:44Speaker 7: later you saw him again. So I think we're starting
- 36:46Speaker 7: to see, particularly you know here in Seattle, where we
- 36:49Speaker 7: love our women's sports and our men's sports, people can
- 36:52Speaker 7: now go and support these athletes and say, I want
- 36:56Speaker 7: to be part of this, And I think it's a
- 36:57Speaker 7: very accessible way to the sport, a more financially accessible
- 37:01Speaker 7: way into the sport.
- 37:03Speaker 6: And you know, I love too.
- 37:04Speaker 7: While Hillary couldn't play while she was recovering, I love
- 37:08Speaker 7: that she was able to go out and be an ambassador,
- 37:10Speaker 7: to raise the spotlight on what these women did, what
- 37:13Speaker 7: this team did, and just be celebrated and have the
- 37:17Speaker 7: paradigm continue to start to shift that there is no
- 37:21Speaker 7: difference between a women's sport and a men's sport. They
- 37:24Speaker 7: should be celebrated for what they accomplish, and when they're great,
- 37:27Speaker 7: they should be recognized as such, and if they can
- 37:29Speaker 7: compete at a high level, we should all go watch
- 37:31Speaker 7: and support them.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Torner back taking on the New York Sirens this Saturday
- 37:35Speaker 3: over sixteen thousand for the return of Hillary Knight in
- 37:38Speaker 3: that loss to Ottawa. Been a tough year, twenty two
- 37:41Speaker 3: points seven games left right now in the season for them,
- 37:43Speaker 3: it's good to have a course of captain back. But Allison,
- 37:46Speaker 3: how much do you think the draft for them is
- 37:49Speaker 3: going to help reshape this team short term and long term?
- 37:52Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 37:53Speaker 7: So you know it's going to be interesting because the
- 37:55Speaker 7: PWHL doesn't handle drafting like most national sports do, and
- 38:01Speaker 7: I love it. They do what's called gold Plan drafting,
- 38:03Speaker 7: which means when your team is eliminated, the clock starts fresh,
- 38:08Speaker 7: and every point you earn, the team with the most
- 38:11Speaker 7: points has the best chance of improving their draft position.
- 38:15Speaker 7: So you're not going to see tanking. You're not going
- 38:17Speaker 7: to see teams just mailing it in. It's really really cool.
- 38:20Speaker 7: But I think, you know, again, this is the power
- 38:23Speaker 7: of those Olympics is that you saw some players in
- 38:26Speaker 7: those games, like KK Harvey, you know, Leila Edwards, that
- 38:29Speaker 7: those kind of of talents coming to a team whoever
- 38:33Speaker 7: is lucky enough to get them is just awesome. And
- 38:36Speaker 7: it continues that cycle of oh, we know that player,
- 38:38Speaker 7: and now that player's here, and even if that player
- 38:40Speaker 7: isn't here, you're going to see that player when that
- 38:42Speaker 7: team comes through your market where you play.
- 38:45Speaker 6: So, and I think.
- 38:46Speaker 7: Too for this, for this Torrent squad and all the squads,
- 38:51Speaker 7: next year could be interesting. There's talk of expansion again,
- 38:54Speaker 7: so rosters are going to be reshaped again. But for
- 38:58Speaker 7: a Torrent and even a GoldenEye, you're going to have
- 39:01Speaker 7: a year under your belt.
- 39:02Speaker 6: You're going to have a year.
- 39:03Speaker 7: They've never had travel like this in this league before,
- 39:06Speaker 7: so there's been a big learning curve to that. There's
- 39:08Speaker 7: a more established culture, there's a more established lifestyle, so
- 39:12Speaker 7: many things that they had to figure out fresh are
- 39:14Speaker 7: going to be in place. Systems, the teammates who stay
- 39:17Speaker 7: under contract will still be here, So I think draft
- 39:20Speaker 7: plus familiarity is going to help both of those teams.
- 39:23Speaker 6: And then maybe there's.
- 39:24Speaker 7: Two new or four new who's to say, we don't
- 39:26Speaker 7: know for sure coming on board to make things even
- 39:28Speaker 7: more interesting.
- 39:30Speaker 4: And then there's the NBA coming to town as well, allegedly, So.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Allison, Finally, Adam Larson one thousand games still be
- 39:41Speaker 3: saluted Tomorrow night when the cracking come back home to you.
- 39:44Speaker 3: What's this legacy meant so far for the first four
- 39:46Speaker 3: plus seasons here.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think I from my experience, I
- 39:52Speaker 7: don't know that. I think fans feel this and they
- 39:55Speaker 7: maybe don't articulate it yet, and that's totally fine. But
- 39:58Speaker 7: this is a player who chose to come to Seattle
- 40:01Speaker 7: and chose to stay in Seattle.
- 40:03Speaker 6: I think that's going to be a huge.
- 40:05Speaker 7: Part of his legacy, of being a player that wanted
- 40:07Speaker 7: to be here and wanted to build this. I think
- 40:10Speaker 7: his style and his demeanor endears him to both teammates
- 40:14Speaker 7: and fans alike. And I think on the ice, it's
- 40:17Speaker 7: easy to talk about how strong and excellent he is
- 40:20Speaker 7: as a defensive player. But for me, the other thing
- 40:23Speaker 7: that I think he should be heralded for is he's
- 40:26Speaker 7: kind of been the magic to unlock Vince Dunn's game too,
- 40:29Speaker 7: right in that Vince Dunn loves playing with him, and
- 40:32Speaker 7: Vince did a lot of work in these off seasons
- 40:35Speaker 7: to get to a level where he can continue to
- 40:37Speaker 7: play with Adam Larson. Then they have a chemistry now
- 40:39Speaker 7: that really works. And so I think that you know,
- 40:42Speaker 7: in five ten years Crack and fans should still be
- 40:45Speaker 7: saying the name Adam Larson as a big part of
- 40:48Speaker 7: a team that was built on a defensive identity and
- 40:50Speaker 7: live true to that and gave everything he could and
- 40:53Speaker 7: was perhaps one of the most dedicated players to the
- 40:55Speaker 7: game that comes through this arena to date.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Well said, he's going to be a slid before the
- 41:00Speaker 3: opening face off of the Kraken and the Utah Mammoth.
- 41:03Speaker 3: As far as you well said, well written as well.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Appreciate the time, Alison, Thank you. We'll talk to you
- 41:07Speaker 3: again soon.
- 41:09Speaker 6: Thanks so much.
- 41:09Speaker 7: This is fun with al here breaking out a bigger team.
- 41:12Speaker 2: That's good.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Thanks for having me, guys.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Thanks great stuff, you bet.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I always looking to get bigger and better big Thanks
- 41:18Speaker 3: again to Alison Luke and for joining us. By the way,
- 41:21Speaker 3: find her at Twitter and X at Allison L. Allison
- 41:25Speaker 3: with one L before the letter L A L I
- 41:28Speaker 3: S O N L is a place to find her
- 41:30Speaker 3: at Twitter and X. All right, mail bag, three stars,
- 41:33Speaker 3: all wrap up, all right after this right here on
- 41:35Speaker 3: Cracking Weekly on ninety three to three KJRFM. All right,
- 41:38Speaker 3: let's hear it. Nine games left. What do you think
- 41:41Speaker 3: is the biggest game of the year, and a lot
- 41:43Speaker 3: are you saying, Well, the time is now to put
- 41:46Speaker 3: foot to gas. It is tomorrow night against a Utah
- 41:49Speaker 3: mammoth that got fifty percent of the vote thirty three
- 41:54Speaker 3: percent of you. By the way, say the home finale
- 41:56Speaker 3: against the Los Angeles Kings will be the biggest game
- 42:00Speaker 3: of the year. A lot to shakeouts before that game
- 42:04Speaker 3: on April thirteenth, But again let's hear it from you.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Drop your vote right now at Crack and Audio and again,
- 42:09Speaker 3: with nine games left, what do you think is the
- 42:11Speaker 3: biggest game of the year. Big things Once again to
- 42:14Speaker 3: Alison Luke Ann for joining us once again the Cracking
- 42:17Speaker 3: back in action tomorrow night. She'll be on the TV
- 42:19Speaker 3: desk also PWHL Torrent hosting New York again on Saturday,
- 42:25Speaker 3: Mike and Now with you as well. Everett fits you
- 42:28Speaker 3: off here for the week back with us two here
- 42:30Speaker 3: for this next week. So before we get to our
- 42:34Speaker 3: mailbag segment, I can't help but think that Tomorrow night
- 42:38Speaker 3: is the biggest game just because of the circumstances. L
- 42:41Speaker 3: If you basically used up all the equity that you
- 42:44Speaker 3: can from this last six game road trip, I mean
- 42:47Speaker 3: you're looking at Winnipeg and going in there with how
- 42:49Speaker 3: noisy it can be. You're looking at maybe the Kings
- 42:51Speaker 3: and how close they can be. But I mean, first
- 42:54Speaker 3: things first, I mean Utah is a legitimate playoff team.
- 42:57Speaker 3: They're gonna make it. They're a tough out. This is
- 43:00Speaker 3: your biggest game of the year, coming back home op
- 43:01Speaker 3: that six game trip.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Yeah, this Utah team has proven that they've got the
- 43:07Speaker 4: legs to go into this playoff run, and I wouldn't
- 43:10Speaker 4: be surprised for them to hold on to one of
- 43:12Speaker 4: these two remaining wild card spots. Obviously, they've got the
- 43:16Speaker 4: backing of Ashley and Ryan Smith and what they've done
- 43:20Speaker 4: out there in Utah and continued to do so.
- 43:22Speaker 5: They're definitely a team that's streaking right now.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Having said that, they are coming into Seattle, it's home
- 43:29Speaker 4: iice advantage for the Kraken, and they're going to have
- 43:32Speaker 4: to find a way to take advantage of that.
- 43:34Speaker 5: They've got to get a great start.
- 43:35Speaker 4: They've got to go out and win that first period,
- 43:37Speaker 4: and even if they don't, they've got to come back
- 43:40Speaker 4: with a strong push in the second. You know, you
- 43:42Speaker 4: can't see a two goal lead in the first period
- 43:45Speaker 4: turn into a two to two tie after the opposing
- 43:48Speaker 4: team pushes in the second period, which they always do.
- 43:51Speaker 4: We see it every single game. We saw the krack
- 43:53Speaker 4: and do it last game. So ideally, you win that
- 43:56Speaker 4: first period, you hold off that push in the second,
- 43:58Speaker 4: and you bring home our regulation win in that game
- 44:00Speaker 4: against Utah Thursday.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Also, what you're hoping at here is that the Kings
- 44:03Speaker 3: can find a way to slip against what is right
- 44:05Speaker 3: now the easiest strength of schedule in the NHL. Right now,
- 44:09Speaker 3: they have nine games left. They still have two against
- 44:12Speaker 3: the Canucks, they have one against the Flames, they have
- 44:14Speaker 3: one against the Blues, they have one against the Leafs,
- 44:17Speaker 3: one of course against the Kraken, but also two against
- 44:20Speaker 3: the Nashville Predators. Those are looming large on their side. Nashville, meanwhile,
- 44:27Speaker 3: has got to deal with Minnesota for at least one
- 44:29Speaker 3: more time. And plus also not just the Kings, but
- 44:33Speaker 3: also San Jose twice Utah also won. So you've got
- 44:38Speaker 3: to make as much hey, as I said earlier in
- 44:40Speaker 3: this show, proverbally, almost each and every game right now
- 44:43Speaker 3: when nine games left and l I like your theory
- 44:46Speaker 3: of if you can bank fourteen points out of eighteen,
- 44:49Speaker 3: put foot to Gas. That's going to really put you
- 44:52Speaker 3: in great position here to grab that second wildcard spot
- 44:55Speaker 3: because it has been so volatile as far as positioning
- 44:59Speaker 3: in this Ustern Conference for virtually the entire season. All right,
- 45:03Speaker 3: under our mail bag segment, we go once again hit
- 45:05Speaker 3: us up at Betton Underscore mic from my account. Go
- 45:07Speaker 3: ahead and follow the crack and Audio network at Cracking
- 45:10Speaker 3: Audio at al Kiniski's also at al Kaniski. Question from Rob,
- 45:15Speaker 3: I would love to know why when we should be,
- 45:17Speaker 3: you know, battling to get into playoff contention, it seems
- 45:19Speaker 3: as if maybe there's some disinterest or even the slightest
- 45:23Speaker 3: bit of hunger to fight. Is this, you know, a
- 45:25Speaker 3: talent issue somewhere else? I'm convinced that coaching is not
- 45:29Speaker 3: our problem. Not from Rob on Twitter and next, the
- 45:33Speaker 3: way I can summarize this is that Lane Lambert has
- 45:36Speaker 3: done everything he can to lead the horse to water
- 45:41Speaker 3: right now in nine games left in this regular season.
- 45:44Speaker 3: The structure proved that you can win games three to
- 45:47Speaker 3: two and two to one. This is how this roster
- 45:51Speaker 3: is built. Right now, I'm convinced again a little bit
- 45:54Speaker 3: less that it's one hundred percent of a passion issue.
- 45:58Speaker 3: And granted some questions in some the have certainly been
- 46:00Speaker 3: valid here, but again, I think this is more of
- 46:03Speaker 3: just meeting the moment where Lane Lambert said this himself.
- 46:07Speaker 3: You can't play with a timid space against teams like Colorado,
- 46:12Speaker 3: against teams like Tampa Bay.
- 46:14Speaker 2: We heard this over and over and over, and.
- 46:16Speaker 3: I think the methodology of gripping your stick a little
- 46:20Speaker 3: bit too tight. As they say in this business, with
- 46:23Speaker 3: tension comes hesitation, and with the extra second of hesitation,
- 46:29Speaker 3: you're burned, especially at this time of year, because players
- 46:32Speaker 3: are faster, systems execute faster, and they're much more dialed
- 46:36Speaker 3: in where you're starting to see the teams who give
- 46:39Speaker 3: the extra inch find their way to the top.
- 46:42Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think that we saw some of that
- 46:44Speaker 4: in the game in Edmonton, where in that first period
- 46:47Speaker 4: Edmonton was not giving Seattle any time in space to
- 46:50Speaker 4: get anything done. And when you do that, you make
- 46:52Speaker 4: bad decisions with the puck. When you do that, it's
- 46:55Speaker 4: tough to get team speed going because they're on you
- 46:58Speaker 4: right away. I think that's exactly the with a crack
- 47:00Speaker 4: you need to play going forward these last nine games,
- 47:03Speaker 4: and certainly against teams like Vegas like Colorado where you know,
- 47:07Speaker 4: including Utah, where they've got a lot of talent. They
- 47:10Speaker 4: can get you into that track me kind of game
- 47:13Speaker 4: if you let them. You don't let them by playing
- 47:16Speaker 4: them type, playing them physical and forcing them to make
- 47:18Speaker 4: bad decisions.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Once again, find us a crack and audio network. The
- 47:23Speaker 3: handle is Cracking audio Net. We had a lot of
- 47:25Speaker 3: reaction as far as what the grade was here from
- 47:28Speaker 3: this last road trip, and it wasn't very complementary. I
- 47:32Speaker 3: don't think one three and two deserves anything a little
- 47:34Speaker 3: bit higher than that. But I think there's once again
- 47:38Speaker 3: a common expectation here is that at this time of year,
- 47:42Speaker 3: when you have been talking about being in the playoff mix,
- 47:45Speaker 3: when you have been talking about making the playoffs, there's
- 47:49Speaker 3: more attention, and with the attention comes a greater demand
- 47:53Speaker 3: to elevate your game. And so this is where I
- 47:55Speaker 3: would think that you know, the root of this was,
- 47:57Speaker 3: you know, disappointment. I get this one here from the
- 48:00Speaker 3: handle blended Unicorn at Twitter and X. You're gonna be
- 48:02Speaker 3: a bit more generous here than others and say it
- 48:04Speaker 3: was a see the problem was and the Kraken played terrible.
- 48:08Speaker 3: It's that other teams elevate their games at this time
- 48:11Speaker 3: of year, and the Kraken did not as a result.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that that's fair. I think that's you know,
- 48:18Speaker 4: two things can be true. I think that the other
- 48:20Speaker 4: team can elevate their game.
- 48:21Speaker 5: But that's that's.
- 48:22Speaker 4: What you're going into every team trying to do, trying
- 48:24Speaker 4: to outplay the guy across from you, the team across
- 48:26Speaker 4: from you, and you know, it's it's a battle of
- 48:29Speaker 4: wills every single shift, every single play. So yeah, if
- 48:33Speaker 4: you're able to elevate, that your your your game. And
- 48:36Speaker 4: when when when you talk about elevating, that's the defensive
- 48:39Speaker 4: side of the pack, that's that's that's your goaltender and net.
- 48:42Speaker 5: That's winning fifty to fifty puck battles, that's.
- 48:45Speaker 4: Playing more physical than when you start to put all
- 48:47Speaker 4: those all those things together, that's what elevating your game means.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Hey, Kevin at Twitter and x set, he just gave
- 48:53Speaker 3: him a D because they had at least three chances
- 48:55Speaker 3: to get at least six or seven points lost of Nashville.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Last of Columbus US lost to Florida. He didn't expect
- 49:02Speaker 3: to win over Tampa Bay. The Kracking did get that though,
- 49:04Speaker 3: But the krakend last night with too many turnovers and
- 49:08Speaker 3: too many giveaways, and they had to play flawless, as
- 49:11Speaker 3: he says, to be competitive.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's just it, you know, a giveaway from
- 49:17Speaker 4: Adam Larson, a rare giveaway as well, But it's not
- 49:22Speaker 4: necessarily that that particular play, it wasn't Adam Larson giving
- 49:25Speaker 4: the puck away. It was Edmonton attacking the pucks so
- 49:29Speaker 4: quickly that caused them to I think that that was
- 49:32Speaker 4: that was the Casperry goal. It caused them to get
- 49:37Speaker 4: that opportunity. So you know a lot of people would
- 49:42Speaker 4: blame Adam Larson for that. That's that's a pass that
- 49:44Speaker 4: she probably makes nine times out of ten the rest
- 49:46Speaker 4: of the season and doesn't doesn't get it picked off.
- 49:48Speaker 5: So you know, I'd like to see him make a better.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Better decision there as we get closer to the playoffs
- 49:55Speaker 4: and closer to the end of the season, because I think
- 49:57Speaker 4: in the playoffs that pass gets picked off a little
- 49:59Speaker 4: more free than it does in the first ten games
- 50:01Speaker 4: of the season.
- 50:02Speaker 3: All right, With that further ado, time now to get
- 50:04Speaker 3: to our three stars here in this one. I'll go first,
- 50:08Speaker 3: my third star of the Week is Philip Grubauer for
- 50:11Speaker 3: a couple of reasons. Number one, last night four hundredth
- 50:14Speaker 3: NHL game, and I think a big testimony to what
- 50:18Speaker 3: I think turning the page represents after what was the
- 50:21Speaker 3: season that just went completely off the tracks last year,
- 50:25Speaker 3: and many of us had questions about the long term
- 50:27Speaker 3: viability for him in it. But to give him credit,
- 50:31Speaker 3: getting to work with Colin Zulianello and Coachella Valley, I
- 50:34Speaker 3: think flipped the switch and you saw how much a
- 50:36Speaker 3: summer of reset, a new coach, a new system, a
- 50:40Speaker 3: new plan made a big difference here for him. And
- 50:43Speaker 3: I said this right back about middle of the season.
- 50:45Speaker 3: He's your mid season MVP. The numbers that have taken
- 50:48Speaker 3: a dip a little bit but grew Bauer very strong
- 50:50Speaker 3: in net. Last night certainly was not on him. The
- 50:53Speaker 3: Buffalo game was not on him. The cracking needed a
- 50:56Speaker 3: little bit more offense, and I think except for maybe
- 50:59Speaker 3: the two on one goal, I mean you can't ask
- 51:02Speaker 3: for a much better effort out of Philip Grubauer like
- 51:04Speaker 3: in last night's game. And for his performance and getting
- 51:07Speaker 3: the game four hundred, he is my third star of
- 51:10Speaker 3: the week. My second star goes to Brandon Montour. Two
- 51:14Speaker 3: goals since we last had this radio show, both coming
- 51:17Speaker 3: in the same game, both coming really couldn't have come
- 51:20Speaker 3: at a better time, and against Tampa Bay where he
- 51:23Speaker 3: finished off the lightning and in a place where he
- 51:26Speaker 3: drew lightning rod type of attention. You and Everett mentioned
- 51:31Speaker 3: this al of course, his history in Florida. Other players
- 51:34Speaker 3: were very aware of his history. I talked with Berkeley Catton.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Montour was engaged, he was locked in, he was chirping,
- 51:42Speaker 3: He knew about how high the stakes were for that game.
- 51:45Speaker 2: He was dialed in.
- 51:47Speaker 3: I think to me it also sets an example just
- 51:49Speaker 3: not just you know, not not just with the overtime
- 51:52Speaker 3: winner that he's scored here, but this again is the
- 51:56Speaker 3: kind of brand the Kraken are looking for. In crunch time.
- 52:00Speaker 3: He is keeping the room loose, that's part of his job,
- 52:02Speaker 3: and then he finds a way to emotionally rise to
- 52:07Speaker 3: the moment within control. You saw that two goal effort happen.
- 52:11Speaker 3: Brandon Montour is my second start, without question, first star
- 52:15Speaker 3: Bobby McMahon. It seems like it is lather Rein's repeat
- 52:18Speaker 3: since the trade deadline. But again, as Allison said, I
- 52:21Speaker 3: mean her take on this. It might be the trade
- 52:24Speaker 3: deadline pickup of the year right now, and it's hard
- 52:26Speaker 3: to argue with that six game road trip, three goals
- 52:29Speaker 3: to assist five points as well, last three games since
- 52:33Speaker 3: this radio show four points tied with Coppocaco two goals
- 52:37Speaker 3: in those three games. The Buffalo game that he's scored
- 52:40Speaker 3: to make it to nothing. My goodness, that burned down
- 52:43Speaker 3: the highlight reel. My goodness. I can't wait to see
- 52:46Speaker 3: more of this here in Seattle. He may get the
- 52:48Speaker 3: bag he deserves to hear at this point. Bobby McMahon
- 52:51Speaker 3: take a bow, A big reason why the Kraken are
- 52:54Speaker 3: still in this fight.
- 52:55Speaker 2: He's my first start.
- 52:56Speaker 4: Yeah, two of the same for me. I'll start with
- 52:59Speaker 4: Grubauers third star two too and one. Over his last
- 53:02Speaker 4: five save percentage of the percentages that were all north
- 53:05Speaker 4: of nine hundred except for one that Tampa Bay lost,
- 53:08Speaker 4: the first Tampa Bay game. He's averaged two point eight
- 53:12Speaker 4: goals against over the last five, but again losing that
- 53:15Speaker 4: game five to one. The first one against Tampa has
- 53:17Speaker 4: a big impact on that. I like how he was
- 53:20Speaker 4: able to come back and play that the lightning game
- 53:23Speaker 4: in Tampa Bay and get the win. I love when
- 53:25Speaker 4: a goaltender gets that opportunity and obviously has success doing that.
- 53:29Speaker 4: But for all those reasons, he's my third star. My
- 53:32Speaker 4: second star goes to Kapocaco. Two goals and four assists
- 53:35Speaker 4: and his last five. Like we talked about with Alison,
- 53:39Speaker 4: he's been lights out since the Olympic break, coming back
- 53:42Speaker 4: after playing for his country. He's found a way to
- 53:45Speaker 4: elevate his game, which in past conversations I've said, that's
- 53:49Speaker 4: the best you can hope for, other than maybe winning
- 53:51Speaker 4: the medal.
- 53:52Speaker 5: Coming back to the Olympics is.
- 53:53Speaker 4: Elevating your game, and both he and Grubauer have both
- 53:57Speaker 4: done that. So he's my second star. And then I
- 53:59Speaker 4: agree Bobby McMahon. This guy, he's he's taken over the
- 54:06Speaker 4: leader in the clubhouse for power wingers.
- 54:08Speaker 5: In this team.
- 54:09Speaker 4: I put a guy like Ellie Tolvenan in there as well,
- 54:12Speaker 4: but McMahon's a little bit faster than Ellie tolven and
- 54:15Speaker 4: he plays just as physical. He has just is elite,
- 54:18Speaker 4: an elite of a shot, loves going to the front
- 54:21Speaker 4: of the net. There's a lot more excitement that I
- 54:23Speaker 4: look forward to seeing in this game, and I hope
- 54:25Speaker 4: the Cracken are able to keep him for the for
- 54:27Speaker 4: the for future years. But boy, mccacmahon, he's my first star.
- 54:32Speaker 3: He's been phenomenal. Here can the Cracking get more of that?
- 54:35Speaker 3: Beginning Tomorrow night against the Utah Mammoth. We'll talk more
- 54:38Speaker 3: about it at six point thirty on air post game
- 54:40Speaker 3: coverage by the way, at Tom's Watchbar. Same deal for
- 54:43Speaker 3: Saturday Kraken and the Blackhawks. We'll talk with you then,
- 54:47Speaker 3: Everett now on the call.
- 54:48Speaker 2: I'll be with you.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Once again pregame, intermission and postgame as well. All right,
- 54:52Speaker 3: all the time we got right here. Big thanks also
- 54:55Speaker 3: to Alison Lucan for joining us and for al I
- 54:58Speaker 3: Mike here for Cracking Weekly.
- 54:59Speaker 2: See Yeah,
