- 0:03Marvin: Hey folks, it's Marvin Cash, the host of the Articulate Fly,
- 0:06Marvin: and we're back with another Roosh Report with the man himself,
- 0:09Marvin: Brendan Roosh. Brendan, how are you?
- 0:12Brendan : Doing all right, Marvin. How are you doing?
- 0:14Marvin: Just trying to stay out of trouble. Was goofing off a little bit last week on
- 0:18Marvin: the water, so I've been digging out today.
- 0:21Brendan : Nice. Yeah, same here. I haven't spent the last two weeks on the home waters,
- 0:27Brendan : but luckily we missed some rain
- 0:30Brendan : and then we got pounded with rain um yeah i was up in canada having some fun
- 0:36Brendan : catching some largemouths and smallmouths a little bit of ditch pickle pike
- 0:40Brendan : but it was a great time up there yeah.
- 0:44Marvin: I was gonna say if you picked a time to go out of town during guide season you
- 0:46Marvin: probably hit it just about right because i would imagine uh into last week for
- 0:50Marvin: sure was a complete washout right right?
- 0:54Brendan : Yeah, it went up. Uh, everything went up pretty high. Um, still very off color
- 1:00Brendan : and high right now. And, uh,
- 1:04Brendan : push back the trips for this week. I'll be doing a, or helping out at a cleanup
- 1:08Brendan : on the Delaware with the Delaware river club and house fly fishing.
- 1:12Brendan : Um, that's going to be this Friday, Saturday.
- 1:16Brendan : And it looks like we're getting some more rain over the weekend in the south central PA area.
- 1:22Brendan : So hopefully it won't be unfishable next week.
- 1:25Marvin: Yeah, get all the dumpsters and trees out of the river, right?
- 1:30Brendan : Yeah. Yeah, we'll get all the fresh tires that were rolled in near Hancock or
- 1:36Brendan : whatever deposit up in New York.
- 1:39Marvin: Yeah, something to look forward to. And so if folks wanted to get a little bit
- 1:43Marvin: more information on the stream cleanup, where should they go?
- 1:47Brendan : Um house fly fishing on instagram or the delaware river club on instagram got.
- 1:53Marvin: It and so we figured since you've uh you've been out of the country uh fishing
- 1:57Marvin: that you know maybe a great thing to talk about for folks is you know what to
- 2:01Marvin: expect you know as the water drops and becomes fishable again like how are the
- 2:05Marvin: fish going to behave you know i assume they're going to come off structure a
- 2:08Marvin: little bit but you know why don't you share your thoughts on that with our folks.
- 2:13Brendan : So i think what we're going to be experiencing
- 2:16Brendan : is a lot of
- 2:18Brendan : grass pretty much distributed throughout
- 2:21Brendan : the whole water column uh for a period of time that like i don't know how many
- 2:27Brendan : days it's going to last but um yeah you're going to be dealing with grass on
- 2:34Brendan : the banks for sure and And then it kind of stacks up and starts to die off.
- 2:40Brendan : And this is just from big blowouts this time of year in the past.
- 2:47Brendan : So I think, yeah, I mean, fishing...
- 2:51Brendan : The usual stuff that I talk about, like that first drop, second drop, in the middle.
- 2:57Brendan : Just if there's grass on top, not fishing topwater, trying to get down below
- 3:02Brendan : the grass, maybe dead drifting with some twitches with a crayfish.
- 3:05Brendan : Or a little bit bigger baitfish pattern if the water's still off color.
- 3:11Marvin: Got it. And then, of course, I guess maybe opt to fish more towards the middle
- 3:14Marvin: of the river if there's a bunch of junk on the edges, right?
- 3:18Brendan : Yeah. Either you know or you find where the first and second drop are or fish
- 3:24Brendan : bottom structure off the banks.
- 3:29Brendan : I'm just picturing a few years ago, there was just so much grass stacked up
- 3:34Brendan : on the banks from a big storm like we just had this time of year.
- 3:37Brendan : It's just like, I don't know.
- 3:40Brendan : Someone was telling me that when the grass gets stacked up like that,
- 3:44Brendan : it just depletes oxygen in those areas.
- 3:50Brendan : Um, which makes sense, but I don't know.
- 3:54Marvin: Interesting. So anything in terms of like changes in presentation or fly color,
- 3:59Marvin: if you're fishing subsurface, I mean, rattles, anything like that you want to share folks?
- 4:04Brendan : Yeah, for stained water, you're fishing that drop.
- 4:07Brendan : I mean, I'd be fishing black for sure, black and chartreuse,
- 4:15Brendan : that yellow, pink, and orange mixture.
- 4:20Brendan : That blend seems to work pretty well in that brownish-green water on the greener side of things.
- 4:28Brendan : Just things that are going to be different from the grass that's floating down
- 4:33Brendan : or in the fall you know sometimes you get leaves uh tons of leaves in the system
- 4:37Brendan : so i think just trying to stand out while still imitating something is uh that's my advice there gotcha.
- 4:47Marvin: And uh rattles or no rattles uh corkscrew tails on flies anything like that.
- 4:51Brendan : Yeah i'm a fan of a rattle um they They often break, but it always gives me
- 4:59Brendan : some confidence when a fly has one, especially in dirty conditions.
- 5:03Marvin: Yeah, there you go. And we have only non-serious questions this time,
- 5:07Marvin: which kind of works out since you haven't been on the water recently.
- 5:13Marvin: But I got a question from Sean, and he wants to know if you know what the term yardie means.
- 5:19Brendan : Yardie. uh yardie is something
- 5:22Brendan : you say to your friends uh after you say something
- 5:25Brendan : that they should already know got it um so yeah i mean you know say what fly
- 5:35Brendan : are you gonna fish today sean you're gonna fish a nymph and he's gonna say yardie
- 5:38Brendan : because sean that's all he does is he nymphs so got.
- 5:43Marvin: It i didn't even have to ask you to use it in a sentence for me.
- 5:45Brendan : Oh yeah i got you yeah.
- 5:48Marvin: So i think attack on that he had
- 5:50Marvin: he had was uh something about uh are you familiar with capri sun emojis.
- 5:57Brendan : Yes, so that's a juice box.
- 6:00Brendan : And then if you stack at least two juice boxes together in a comment or a text,
- 6:07Brendan : then that means that it's juiced. And juice is a good thing.
- 6:10Marvin: Gotcha. What if you had a juice box, an eggplant in a juice box?
- 6:17Brendan : That's bordering on dangerous territory. I'm going to leave that one alone.
- 6:20Marvin: There you go.
- 6:24Marvin: Well, you know, folks, we love questions on the Articulate Fly.
- 6:26Marvin: You can email them to us or DM us on social media, whatever is easiest for you.
- 6:30Marvin: And if we use your question, I will send you some Articulate Fly swag.
- 6:33Marvin: And then Brendan's got an awesome pack of Roosh angling stuff,
- 6:37Marvin: log jam stuff, and housefly stuff.
- 6:39Marvin: So send us your questions because we love them and it makes the show fun.
- 6:45Marvin: And Brendan, before I let you go, you want to let folks know kind of how to
- 6:49Marvin: reach you, what's open on your guide calendar, all that kind of good stuff?
- 6:53Brendan : Yeah, you can reach me at Brendan Roosh on Instagram. roosh angling on facebook
- 6:58Brendan : and uh i have some dates open in the first half of september,
- 7:04Brendan : and uh yeah i mean it should be should be a nice big start to the month with
- 7:10Brendan : all this water we have um i'm looking forward to getting out the end of august
- 7:16Brendan : here with a stacked schedule of guys that can fish a bug and hopefully we have water for that but yeah.
- 7:23Marvin: And it's not crazy hot right.
- 7:26Brendan : Yeah and it's it's cold off and it's definitely not miserable outside anymore
- 7:30Brendan : yeah like the first half of the summer dude.
- 7:33Marvin: It was hot last week i'll tell you um and not a dry heat either um well you
