- 0:01It's Most Things Kenobi, an elegant podcast for a more
- 0:06civilized fandom. Hello everyone, welcome to
- 0:20another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan
- 0:24Kenobi and all things Star Wars. I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:28And I'm your host, Lauren. And this episode is all about
- 0:33the third of four installments of the Return to Geonosis arc on
- 0:40The Clone Wars. And this one, we're going
- 0:43underground. Thank God, because it is.
- 0:48Yeah, 105° here and 100% humidity, so I'm ready to go
- 0:55underground. I feel like we live 5 miles from
- 0:58the sun here right now. So that.
- 1:02Sounds like me. Underground to a cave please.
- 1:07With Obi Wan and Anakin in the in the and the clones, yeah.
- 1:10I don't think it gets better than that, except for the bugs
- 1:14and the zombies. It's true this episode is called
- 1:18Legacy of Terror, but according to Lauren, she's already living
- 1:21it so. Honestly, Legacy of Terror is
- 1:27accurate. It's fucking terrifying.
- 1:30It is. It really is.
- 1:33Humidity is the worst thing ever.
- 1:38Oh, I meant the episode. Yeah, I was talking about Clone
- 1:44Wars, but yes, it's yes, Midwestern summer is a legacy of
- 1:52terror. It really is because it always
- 1:55returns makes itself known. And if it's not a drought or
- 2:00500°, there's tornadoes. And, you know, it doesn't get
- 2:05much scarier than that, so. False.
- 2:09You don't have worms crawling up your nose.
- 2:11True, true, but if you just drive about an hour out into
- 2:15farm country it could happen. I speak from experience where I
- 2:24went to college. Oh.
- 2:27My God. I'm not kidding.
- 2:31I've never seen bigger worms in my life.
- 2:36I don't know how we got so sidetracked.
- 2:40I'm. Sorry, I was just trying to
- 2:43introduce the episode. I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 2:47Oh, I love it. I love it.
- 2:48Yeah. This this episode is about worms
- 2:50and we're going underground. And that's what that's what
- 2:53started this whole thing. Oh my God, I'm sorry.
- 2:58Please don't be. Where do we even start now?
- 3:05Can I? OK I have a question.
- 3:08So the fortune cookie for this episode is sometimes accepting
- 3:12help is harder than offering. It feels unrelated.
- 3:15Gotta gotta stay. Well, is it from the point of
- 3:19view of Luminara, 'cause she's technically being helped and
- 3:23yet. I guess, yeah.
- 3:26Maybe. It's really, I don't know,
- 3:30oblique it it's just doesn't. It barely seems related
- 3:34considering this is all about, you know, a hive mind and
- 3:38zombies. Yeah, but I'm trying to, I'm
- 3:41trying to think of it peripherally, like usually
- 3:45they're more pointed than that, you know, a little bit more
- 3:48specific. Can you read it again?
- 3:51Sometimes accepting help is harder than offering it.
- 3:56Accepting help is harder than offering it.
- 4:00Yeah, I don't know. I don't know.
- 4:02Like the whole episode, Luminara is rejecting help or advice from
- 4:07everybody. Everybody's trying to give her
- 4:10their two cents, and she seems very stubborn, but that's no
- 4:15different than anybody else in Star Wars.
- 4:18Literally, Anakin is like, we have to do something, and
- 4:21everyone else in the room is like, no, no, Anakin, we have to
- 4:23wait until the storm is over. So it's not just her I guess.
- 4:28But that's very true. She I don't consider her the
- 4:31focal point of this episode either.
- 4:34No, no, it's very split to be honest.
- 4:37It's which is nice because it's some of the greatest Obi Wan
- 4:43Anakin interactions ever. I couldn't agree more.
- 4:47But there's also a focus on the clones and the trusting of each
- 4:50other and kind of this, there's also the queen bug, You know,
- 4:56she's kind of a focal point and they're not helping her so.
- 5:01No, no, no, they're not. Yeah.
- 5:04I mean, it's I don't know, the the thing that really struck me
- 5:09about her is that she is such a good Jedi, or at least she's
- 5:12portrayed that way, but she's extremely stubborn.
- 5:16And right from the beginning she tells Obi Wan like, no, I'm
- 5:21going to go do this. But you know, she tries to keep
- 5:23it light and says, like, leave some strategic planning for me
- 5:26or I'd hate to feel left out, but.
- 5:27Sure. She does seem like this, really,
- 5:31especially after the last episode we recorded about
- 5:34Weapons Factory and how quick she was to write off Paris and
- 5:39Ahsoka, and now she's going off into the wilderness by herself
- 5:44with one clone trooper. She ignores Anakin's warning
- 5:48about a sandstorm. It kind of feels a little like
- 5:53she's quick to dismiss life. Yeah, yes.
- 6:00And not just her own, but she's willing to risk everyone around
- 6:04her. I don't know, is that too harsh
- 6:06of me to say? But it was really kind of
- 6:08sticking out to me this time. No, it's not too harsh.
- 6:12I mean, there's a reason there's an undercurrent why I've never
- 6:14really liked her or never took a strong liking to her and it's
- 6:19because of her. She's kind of like off putting.
- 6:23She is in her own world kind of a lot and she has that right.
- 6:33I mean, that's her leadership style, I guess, and she's not
- 6:36going to take it. I mean, I if I was the clone
- 6:39that went with her, I'd be upset.
- 6:42Like, why not? Why are we disregarding the
- 6:46weather forecast? I was excited to talk to you
- 6:50about this. Do you know what a dust storm's
- 6:56official name is? Yes.
- 6:59A haboob. Just a little bit weird it is.
- 7:04Do you know where that came from?
- 7:06I. I I don't, I don't.
- 7:08I should, but I don't. Have you ever been in one?
- 7:11No, but my Co worker who is originally from Phoenix is in
- 7:15them all the time. Yeah, 'cause that's where I was
- 7:18in them, was in Arizona, and I guess I actually, I drove
- 7:21through one in Nevada as well, 'cause on the way.
- 7:24Nothing to fuck with. You do not fuck with them.
- 7:27You pull over and you wait till it's over.
- 7:29Luminara. Like it will take the paint
- 7:33right off your car. So what do you think it will do
- 7:37to your skin? I don't.
- 7:39Isn't she on a speeder? She is.
- 7:42Get the hell out of here. At least he's got, you know,
- 7:45body armor. She's got nothing.
- 7:47So that's just not realistic at. All she could do like a force
- 7:51Dome over her, you know, I guess.
- 7:56But there are easier ways to get from point A to point B in the
- 7:59desert during a dust storm. And that's A don't go and B
- 8:03don't bring a speeder. Yeah, I mean, Obi Wan saying the
- 8:06the the ships can't handle it and she's out there on a little
- 8:10motorcycle. Yeah, like.
- 8:13It would. It would.
- 8:14Fill the engines with crap and you wouldn't be able to drive at
- 8:18all like I've seen one. It's amazing to see them in the
- 8:21desert because I was up on a mountain pass driving down into
- 8:25Phoenix and you can see it coming.
- 8:27Yeah, it's like a giant bubbly wall.
- 8:30It's not. It's like fingers almost.
- 8:33Yes, it's really cool. It's very cool.
- 8:35It's like a wall coming at you. I'm just you're like, is the
- 8:38world ending? It looks like it might be.
- 8:42Well, Luminar didn't think so, so she went.
- 8:46Kudos to my boy Anakin for trying to give her the forecast
- 8:50and tell her to heed, take heed, And she didn't.
- 8:54He did his best. He did his best again, she just
- 8:57had to ignore everybody's advice.
- 8:59But. Well, it's no wonder she got
- 9:01ended up strung up down in the in the basement there.
- 9:05And you know, I guess the most the most subtle way that Obi Wan
- 9:11could. He wanted to run an experiment
- 9:13on it. Again, my favorite scene of Obi
- 9:17Wan, my favorite back and forth of him and Anakin.
- 9:20The clones represent well in this episode.
- 9:24And not only that, it's spooky as shit and the lighting, like
- 9:27when they're they're looking around right and you can't, you
- 9:30can't see where the bugs are. And I hate that it's.
- 9:36True. It's like the they really play
- 9:39on the whole childhood feeling of being afraid of the dark
- 9:44because the thing that's scary is just at a sight.
- 9:48And even though they don't really show it, at least not at
- 9:50first, eventually they do show them like all up on the ceiling
- 9:54and everything. That's so much.
- 9:55Terrifying. But to begin with there's
- 9:58nothing. There's just the texture of the
- 10:00walls, which is creepy in and of itself, and then they're little
- 10:04dirty headlamps so you can't really see anything.
- 10:08It's a very good psychological use of negative space.
- 10:14Yeah, yeah. And the lighting is something
- 10:17that's always stuck with me in that episode because it's not
- 10:20something you really get from animation, but it's done really
- 10:24well in this episode, to the point where I'm always creeped
- 10:27out. It doesn't matter how many times
- 10:29I watch it, I always get that's crawly skin sensation.
- 10:33Yes, you know what I mean? Multiple times, yeah.
- 10:36There's a bunch of shots where it's so creepy.
- 10:38There's even one shot that I never noticed before.
- 10:42Oh, what is it? It's when Luminar is trying to
- 10:44fight back, when they're kind of like dragging her through the
- 10:46tunnel and she wakes up all of a sudden.
- 10:49She looks up and all you see are eyes glowing in the darkness as
- 10:53they move forward. And then the bugs appear like
- 10:56around these glowing eyes. I was like, that's fucking
- 10:59creepy. It's so creepy, but it's really
- 11:01beautifully done. It's really well done.
- 11:05Like when I always wonder the the process of how they made
- 11:08that happen. Like how do they sit around and
- 11:10think like we need more shadow or we need more eyeballs?
- 11:14Only, you know, we need more chattering.
- 11:18The clacking sound of their wings.
- 11:24It's the great like opportunity. It's, it's a great opportunity
- 11:28to do a lot of horror techniques and they use quite a few.
- 11:32They have, you know, high tension lighting.
- 11:34They have the people vanishing off screen.
- 11:39Yeah, I hate that they have. Hive mind Walking Dead, they
- 11:43have not being able to kill the enemy, like no matter what they
- 11:48do, you know, it's like all these great horror elements.
- 11:51And they have to make decisions on the spot because they're
- 11:54dealing with like a species, you know?
- 11:57And when they don't die right away, it presents a new problem.
- 12:03Which luckily Anakin figures out a good technique for for dealing
- 12:07with it, but. Go figure.
- 12:09It felt a little helpless there for a little while in the
- 12:12earlier part of the episode when.
- 12:14And meanwhile, Obi Wan has his little mental notebook and
- 12:17mental pencil. Do you defend him wanting to
- 12:23take a sample back or not? How do we feel about the sample?
- 12:30Was he wasting their time? Was he a little off track?
- 12:33Was he a little sidetracked? You know what I mean?
- 12:37Or did he have a point? Like, I get why he would want
- 12:40to, but I also feel like this is a nod to Alien and like the
- 12:44Alien franchise. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, which I mean, it's kind of
- 12:50cool because the original Alien by Ridley Scott is a not it was
- 12:54inspired by Star Wars. Like when Ridley Scott started
- 12:58Star Wars he was like holy shit I want to do something like that
- 13:02but scary. Mission accomplished.
- 13:06Yeah, and like when he came back to it in Prometheus, I feel like
- 13:09there's stuff actually very similar to this episode in that,
- 13:13although I have to admit I haven't seen all of the Alien
- 13:16movies, but there are scenes of like, first of all, like not
- 13:22taking samples back because it's actually dangerous.
- 13:25There's all this stuff in sci-fi where you find a species or you
- 13:29take a sample, you bring it back to Earth and it becomes this
- 13:33plague or chimera that like takes over and can kill all
- 13:37mankind, which is a an actual fear and a concern of
- 13:42astrobiologists. I believe that because we don't
- 13:45know, we know what it's like in this, in their situation and
- 13:49their. Environments.
- 13:52Yeah, but if you put it in a new environment, we don't know what
- 13:56it's going to do. Because chemistry is a thing.
- 13:59And when you. Yeah, I mean, one of the
- 14:03weirdest, coolest things ever was when I went to the
- 14:05astrobiology conference held by NASA here in Chicago and.
- 14:09I'm jealous. It was fucking awesome.
- 14:11I'm so glad I got to go and I learned so much.
- 14:15And part of what makes astrobiology interesting but
- 14:19dangerous is that microbes interact with air and water.
- 14:24And the minute that you scoop up a sample, you are introducing
- 14:28microbes from Earth. Even if you've sent it through
- 14:31like a autoclave or something like that to sterilize, you
- 14:36still can't guarantee that you are sterile.
- 14:39So you can be creating a super bug or a super dangerous
- 14:46scenario by taking samples back. And I do feel like it was an
- 14:49unnecessary risk for Moby 1 to grab it, even with his hands.
- 14:54I'd be like fuck that shit, no thank you.
- 14:58This is the Jedi who fucking hates Geonosis.
- 15:03When he's taking like this hive minded parasite.
- 15:08Suddenly myself a souvenir that he'd like to bring back with
- 15:12him. It's like Sir, think a little
- 15:15bit, but I get it. I, I also, I'm like you.
- 15:18He had an opportunity. He's curious by nature, what
- 15:22could we learn from such a thing, etcetera.
- 15:26Yes, I'm in Anakin's camp of he's like study the bottom of my
- 15:30boot. Yes, get the fuck out.
- 15:35No, thank you. I always take time during these
- 15:39moments when it's Anakin and Obi Wan being the the old married
- 15:45couple that we usually refer to them as.
- 15:48And I think this is Darth Vader, you know what I mean?
- 15:54Do you ever just pause and think like this Is that guy the guy in
- 15:58Rogue One who's just slaying folks left and right in the
- 16:02hallway? I forget sometimes when he's
- 16:06like this. I forget that about him, yeah.
- 16:09That's why it's so fucking phenomenal.
- 16:11But like, it just, it's hard for me to think like study the
- 16:15bottom of my boot and slicing people in half on the ceiling.
- 16:20There's a there's a very wide gap between the two.
- 16:23Yeah, How do we? How do we?
- 16:28We get there. It just in this point, in this
- 16:32episode, I have a hard time seeing it, but you know.
- 16:35Yeah, there's something really special, though, about both Matt
- 16:39and James's performance in this episode in particular.
- 16:42They must have had a ball, honestly, because you can hear
- 16:47it. They're jovial, almost.
- 16:49Well, and like, there's something special too about
- 16:51James finally pitches his voice down a little bit.
- 16:55In this one. Which he he even said like
- 16:58Season 1, he was trying to, you know, emulate Ewan McGregor a
- 17:01little bit more. And then by this point, James,
- 17:06I'm sorry, Dave Filoni would say, no, not like, how would you
- 17:10do it? Not how would you and do it.
- 17:12And so you can hear his voice drop down a little deeper in
- 17:16this episode, which I really love 'cause he's getting to say
- 17:18really different and interesting lines about he actually, Obi Wan
- 17:23actually says the word zombies, which I never would have thought
- 17:28would hear that. Well, here we are down in the
- 17:34basement of Geonosis. It's so.
- 17:39Really bizarre, but. It's really full.
- 17:41It's really full circle from where we're at in Attack of the
- 17:44Clones. You know what I mean?
- 17:45Obi Wan and Attack of the Clones and then Obi Wan here in the
- 17:48basement, you know, with Anakin and the boys just trying to save
- 17:52Luminara. It's really something.
- 17:54And Luminara was, she was also an Attack of the Clones in that
- 17:57fight. Yeah.
- 17:57They've actually showed live action Luminara.
- 18:00Yeah. I think.
- 18:04So yeah, and this is like OG Geonosis crew.
- 18:07So it's it's kind of cute if you if you keep that in mind and
- 18:10they're all like the gang's all back, so.
- 18:15You know, yeah, I guess, yeah, I guess Cody's there, which he was
- 18:19not in in Attack of the Clones, which it's kind of interesting.
- 18:24It's Cody in this episode instead of Rex.
- 18:27I'm glad though, because. Yeah.
- 18:30I think it would have been too messy with Rex.
- 18:32Now. God bless Rex, we love him for
- 18:35everything that he is, but we need the stability of Cody.
- 18:38It's when when when we have Obi Wan and Anakin bickering.
- 18:43Yes, it's so funny you say that because in landing at point
- 18:47Rain, Anakin and Ahsoka are bickering and Rex, you can just
- 18:50feel the tension and Rex like we just fucking get on with it.
- 18:55And then this is different. It's the Anakin Obi Wan
- 18:58bickering. Cody's just having none of it.
- 19:02He's just always ready. He's always like in kill mode.
- 19:08I love what's the common denominator here, Anakin, You
- 19:15think with your lightsaber, right?
- 19:17It's not. That's not code for something
- 19:20either. That's not it's not.
- 19:22It's actual like like he means it literally.
- 19:24He really means it in the literal sense.
- 19:27Like you already, he's in kill mode, which does track with
- 19:31Darth Vader. That's true.
- 19:34He is always just kind of ready to jump in with action.
- 19:37And I do love that they take a moment in this episode for Obi
- 19:41Wan to be more of, I hate to use the term diplomatic because
- 19:46like, what he's doing here is actually gross colonialism.
- 19:50And it is. Though it really is.
- 19:53Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:54And it's, it's struck me a lot 'cause because I've been
- 19:57listening to a history podcast lately and, and it's all been
- 20:01about this colonial era in British history and how like
- 20:05super gross it is. And this has that flavour to it.
- 20:10Not honestly, not just British. There is also discussion about
- 20:14like Spanish colonialism as well in South America and.
- 20:19It's like you show up and someone else's house and say you
- 20:23are no longer queen of the Bugs and now you must submit to
- 20:28Republic law. And something about that has
- 20:31always gotten under my skin. Cause OK, yeah.
- 20:34So she is telling Pagal what to do when they're working with the
- 20:37Separatists. So that's like the only way I
- 20:39can excuse it, but. Yeah.
- 20:42They're this culture that exists already, and now you're telling
- 20:45them that they have to do what you say just because you say so.
- 20:50Not only that, they are a non human, like not even humanoid
- 20:56species, which I have a hard time with as well because first
- 20:59of all, like colonization in and of itself is a difficult topic
- 21:03because it's never, it never goes well, like never not right.
- 21:08I mean, it is, it happens, but it never usually goes well.
- 21:12For someone is always brutalized into it.
- 21:16Yeah, but then if you add an animal element, which I struggle
- 21:20with because not that bugs are animals, but you know what I
- 21:23mean, it's not human. Yeah.
- 21:26And a lot of the times when you take into consideration like a
- 21:29species that isn't human or humanoid, they are already
- 21:34coming from a vulnerable position.
- 21:37Like they have far less say in the matter because they don't
- 21:40speak the same as you. They don't act the same as you,
- 21:43you know what I mean? It's we're not the same breed.
- 21:46Because humans will always come at it with a superiority
- 21:49complex. Right.
- 21:50And more often than not, humans, at least in an earthly sense,
- 21:54humans can overpower an animal. And in this case, it's kind of
- 21:59the same thing. We got clones, we got weapons,
- 22:01We have this, that. The other thing now the bugs
- 22:04have weapons, they have troops, but it's obviously intellect
- 22:09versus like the intellect of Obi Wan, Anakin, Jedi clones versus
- 22:14this what appears to be a more basic form of living.
- 22:20You know, that's like, we'll say the Europeans coming over and
- 22:24then just mowing down the Native Americans because they had a
- 22:29more quote primitive and it wasn't.
- 22:33But compared to like the weapon, which is a gun versus the weapon
- 22:37of a bow and arrow, one is gonna win.
- 22:40Right, they use. I hate it.
- 22:41It's what Star Wars talks about in Return of the Jedi.
- 22:44The technological quote of, quote, superiority over the,
- 22:47like, the Ewoks was a great example.
- 22:50Yeah. And even that interaction of
- 22:51like, Han with the Ewoks, assuming that they were less
- 22:54than and they turned out to save his ass.
- 22:57You think so? So it's like not giving that
- 23:01culture the benefit of the doubt of exactly like maybe they're
- 23:04fine the way they are, you know? Maybe we don't need to come in
- 23:09and and just kill them all. Yeah, and then tell them how to
- 23:13live. The ones that are left.
- 23:15I mean, this queen is, is ancient.
- 23:17They refer to her as an ancient being.
- 23:20And her name, she actually has a name, which I didn't know.
- 23:24I have it here. I took a note of it 'cause I was
- 23:26like, wow, I didn't know she had a name.
- 23:29Her name is Queen Karina the Great and she is voiced by AD
- 23:35Bradley Baker. Just in case.
- 23:45D Bradley Baker is the voice of the Queen.
- 23:48I never knew that. Yeah, he does.
- 23:51And like, I don't think they do much to change his voice.
- 23:55I think that's him like doing all the vibrations and
- 23:59everything that she. Has I just these voice actors
- 24:04and actresses? I can't.
- 24:06I don't know why I'm even surprised.
- 24:08He's so damn good as it is. But so she has a fabulous name.
- 24:14Yes. Karina the Great.
- 24:16Karina the Great. Yeah, wow.
- 24:19Well, that's a shame. Yeah, leave her on her giant
- 24:24throne to be the big disgusting bug that she's.
- 24:27So gross. It really is gross.
- 24:30It's so gross. And she's like laying her little
- 24:34eggs. It's I just hate it so much.
- 24:37I don't do larva very well in in any.
- 24:42It vomited on myself that. Was very lifelike.
- 24:48I could do better, but I won't because.
- 24:50Oh no, you did. You did just fine.
- 24:53Can we talk about something real quick that's like cinematography
- 24:58adjacent? Oh, I love when you get
- 25:00cinematograph. What?
- 25:05Cinemagraphic. Cinematographic.
- 25:11I'm not gonna try. Yes, go ahead, talk about it.
- 25:15Please, they they use this in other episodes, but this is a
- 25:19great example of I gotta get a butcher.
- 25:22This the Kiaroscuro. Kiaroscuro, the technique.
- 25:27It's like an Italian painting technique that was invented
- 25:29actually by Leonardo da Vinci of all people.
- 25:33Of course. And it was during his painting
- 25:36The Adoration of the Magi from 1481, he started using this
- 25:42technique where he uses negative space.
- 25:44So it's a lot of black and highlight.
- 25:47So like a lot of high contrast. And it created like a three
- 25:51dimensionalism. And so it was like kind of
- 25:54invented during the Renaissance, but it was really used during
- 25:57the Baroque period by like Caravaggio and Rembrandt and
- 26:02Vermeer actually, like Rembrandt and Caravaggio had a tendency to
- 26:06use it in a way that was like heightened tension.
- 26:11So if you look up their paintings, you'll see a lot of
- 26:13motion that is deeply emotional and very high intensity.
- 26:18But like Vermeer was a Dutch painter and his are emotional,
- 26:22but in a more sedate way. And I, I love his paintings.
- 26:25They're gorgeous. But there's so much black space
- 26:30used in this episode and then high contrast, like on the faces
- 26:34or just like using the headlamps.
- 26:36And it has this Baroque tendency in the cinematography, which I
- 26:43just love because Dave Filoni I've read, but I can't find this
- 26:47anywhere. I know I've heard this, that he
- 26:49studied like Baroque paintings in college and like Caravaggio
- 26:53in particular. We've talked about that on the
- 26:55show before. Yeah, I can't seem to find it
- 26:58now that we have talked about it in the past, but I just love the
- 27:03depth that it creates because so much of like it's a sci-fi, so,
- 27:09so much of sci-fi, especially from like the 1950s will have
- 27:15this flat, flashy kind of look to it.
- 27:19And this is a good opportunity because it has this horror
- 27:24element to incorporate a lot of this negative space, which you
- 27:28see in like Alien is a great example.
- 27:30There's a lot of it filmed in darkness and like, slight will
- 27:33like flash on and scare the shit out of you.
- 27:35You'll realize there's something terrifying right there.
- 27:38But I I love it. This episode to me looks like
- 27:42baroque painting, especially right when they're down in the
- 27:48throne room and Obi Wan Anakin and not Rex Cody appeared.
- 27:54Like. All in a line, which is the part
- 27:57that our Obi Wan logo is based on.
- 28:01Yeah, it's the screenshot that our logo is a painting from so.
- 28:05So cool. And it was an actual piece of
- 28:07art that then we had turned into digital art.
- 28:10So it's just been reinvented a few times, but.
- 28:13So are we the legacy of terror? I think so it might be.
- 28:21In some way. But no, you you bring up
- 28:24excellent points. I just think it's a great use of
- 28:28very timeless traditional art to bring more art in new forms, new
- 28:35media forms to the people. Yeah, and it it is used in all
- 28:42media format now. It's not just a painting
- 28:44technique, it's photography and videography and all of that, and
- 28:47now animation. And I think it's really cool
- 28:51because they could choose to make things flat and easy, and
- 28:57Clone Wars never did that. They always choose something
- 29:01that's more dynamic and beautiful because George Lucas
- 29:06wanted that himself. He wants to push the envelope
- 29:10and all animation before that was really quite well.
- 29:14I mean, then they said it was 2 dimensional versus the 3D show.
- 29:17You know, this is 3D animation. But they go beyond that.
- 29:22You know, they, they don't just make it 3 dimensional, they make
- 29:24it beautiful on purpose. That's what sets the show apart.
- 29:29I think it's really effective in a way that it engages someone
- 29:35visually, even if there's no dialogue.
- 29:37There's no big battle, there's no big anything going on, but
- 29:40you're still watching, you're paying attention, you're in it.
- 29:44And I think that's more difficult to do with animation
- 29:48because there isn't a living human, there isn't a living
- 29:51being with the subtleties of their facial movements or the
- 29:54way they're breathing or you know what I mean?
- 29:57Just the actual live action Ness of it all.
- 30:01So it's I think it's fantastic and it makes the show way more
- 30:05engaging for a viewer. Yeah, and it's also part of why
- 30:10we can watch it over and over and it it holds up and it
- 30:14doesn't get. Boring.
- 30:16And oftentimes I sit there thinking like, this is
- 30:18beautiful. It's fucking terrifying, but
- 30:21it's beautiful. It's true.
- 30:24I mean, there's so many shots you could pull out and say like
- 30:28this looks like a painting. That looks like a painting.
- 30:30Just the standalone screenshots so.
- 30:32Well, the actual shot of of Obi Wan studying like, you know,
- 30:37come now Anakin, will it go up the nose or in the mouth or
- 30:39whatever he says. And Anna, it's like their
- 30:42profiles and their slight height difference and the actual like
- 30:49disbelief on Anakin's face versus the absolute curiosity
- 30:54that's seething from Obi Wan. You know, he's like unfazed by
- 30:59the fact that they're underground in these creepy ass
- 31:02tunnels with this ancient bug queen, you know, zombies
- 31:07everywhere. Luminar is not very happy.
- 31:11I I don't know. And he's just like, I'm just
- 31:13look, this is nothing you should see the other guy.
- 31:17But like, you know, he just doesn't faze him.
- 31:20He's been through too much shit. It's kind of awesome that he's
- 31:24such a bad ass. It is, yeah.
- 31:26Yeah, very much. Although to give Luminara some
- 31:31credit, I would have been way more, way more afraid, scared,
- 31:37creeped out. I would have been protesting
- 31:39more, you know, violently if you will, about something crawling
- 31:44up my nose. But she's, she is a Jedi and she
- 31:46is duty driven. So I give her kudos for just
- 31:50rolling with the punches cause no thank you.
- 31:55That's true. You would have seen me in my
- 31:56worst meltdown phase that I have.
- 31:59Like set your phase phase gun to highest level possible.
- 32:06Yeah. It's a really effective manner
- 32:08of creeping people out is by having anything go up someone's
- 32:11nose. And then, of course, there's the
- 32:13next episode. I was just going to say it's
- 32:15going to ramp up in the next episode.
- 32:17So gross, but yay. All right, join us back next
- 32:26time for more gross shit. Like it's way grosser.
- 32:32It's going to go up up noses and it's going to be disgusting for
- 32:36brain invaders, which I think is the last episode in this this
- 32:41arc. So it is.
- 32:42We will move on to something else after that, but and for
- 32:45now, one more Gin Ocean episode with bugs up your nose, so come
