A 21-year-old man, Abdul Ballout, accused of driving a van into a Pride crowd in Berlin’s Tiergarten park and wielding a machete, killing one and injuring 20, was fatally shot by police after a high-speed chase. With ties to Islamic State propaganda and a prior conviction for preparing a violent act, Ballout had previously traveled to Lebanon and was released pending appeal.
