- 1:02Gates and Marvin Yo, we didn't get were throwing a lot of ideas out
- 1:07here, these million ideas right now Marvin Gates. Oh she starts playing that,
- 1:15stated baby yea. She started singing this playing it saw and she was
- 1:21just so amazed that she was able to say, uh, tell Alexa to
- 1:25play. Oh wow, baby, I had to send emotional you hear me
- 1:30emotional? How loud do you have to say? Like, Alexa, that's

- 2:46of me doubting everything that I've ever done, and I had did so much,
- 2:50but in my mind I just wasn't able to acknowledge that within myself,
- 2:54and then I realized that I was suffering from imposter syndrome. A pause,
- 3:00Let's put a pen in it, because it's already getting good. We already
- 3:04recording, We already oh yeah, we did kind of start three minutes in
- 3:09okay, bet okay, so before before we get it to it, like
- 3:13listen that. First of all, welcome to Just Ask, the podcast where

- 3:27bike. She in the bike, you know, doing her little producer thing.
- 3:30And we have the lovely Ashley Brown better known ass. That's why had
- 3:38to ask her last name. I'm like, girl, your last name is
- 3:39nowhere, I asked. They call her Ashley Famous cookies. That's not your
- 3:46last name. Your last your name is Ashley Brown. Okay. I was
- 3:50like, where's the last day nowhere. I'll be hind it and I do
- 3:53my research before the fact that I had. That's crazy. You're doing a
- 3:59great job, but I'll be FBN. Thank you so much. It went
- 4:02on nowhere A girl went on no all, I see is cookies. Yes,
- 4:09I do not put that Brown on there because it's just such a basic
- 4:13last name. And I have friends that have the same first, middle,
- 4:16and last name as me. Really, and then as far as user names,
- 4:19like my name is Ashley Nicole Brown, everybody's name is Ashley Nicole.
- 4:25Yeah, my name is Jessica Smith, So I can understand that that's kind
- 4:29of jessicad Smith in like my first grade class. But you know, Jessica's
- 4:32are bad, actually so bad every Ashley I know. Yeah, I don't
- 4:38think. I know. We are a character on our own that y'all do
- 4:41what y'all want to do. Yeah, we y'all like y'all, y'all handle
- 4:44it. Yeah, we can get a little wild. Y'all do what y'all
- 4:49want to do. And you are doing what you want to do, y'all.
- 4:53If y'all don't know who Ashley is, I said it in her name
- 4:56actually famous cookies. She is famous for these gourmet cookies that she make.
- 5:00She's right out of Burmeam, Alabama, like homegirl, Like my mouth drools
- 5:04every time that post that you made by the Oio cookies the other day I
- 5:08saw. My mouth is drooling, right now okay, like right now,
- 5:13I can't standing and then they beat like the cookies are just the size they
- 5:16are, like you can do it like this when you put your palm out
- 5:19like that, the cookies, the cookies go right in the middle of the
- 5:24palm, like I am drooling right now. How long have you been in
- 5:28the cookie game? So? I officially have been in the cookie game since
- 5:32March of twenty eighteen, officially, but I started baking cookies after I had
- 5:41my first son in twenty sixteen, and I was tired of spending money on
- 5:45cookies because my postpartum craving was just cookies. So I was like, I
- 5:49might as well try to make some. And I made them one time and
- 5:53my mom would not eat any of the cookies and I'm like, Mama,
- 5:57come on, it's not that deep. So your mama forced you to make
- 6:00some cookies after you made it one time, yes, And she was on
- 6:03my head for two years. She for the last eighteen months. She was
- 6:08just like, you need to sell these, and I'm like, mom,
- 6:11there. You know, sometimes when your parents support you, yeah, you
- 6:15feel like they just gassing you up a lie. No, no, my
- 6:20mama, don't cap about nothing. But at the same time, in that
- 6:24point in my life, I really didn't have no type of focal point on
- 6:29where I was going. I was twenty one, no, well twenty two
- 6:32at the time, I had a small child. I had felt disassociated for
- 6:38my friend group because everybody was still in college. I was back at home.
- 6:41I was working at a daycare. I didn't really know what I was
- 6:44doing with my life, and so one day I was like, I ain't
- 6:47got none to lose. I'm gonna just post these pictures on Facebook and see
- 6:51what it do. Let's talk about that day. What do you remember about
- 6:56that moment with it? Sound like you had a fed up moment? Where
- 7:00were you in Like you said, you were working at a daycare. Where
- 7:01were you living at the point? Were you're still in bare Yes, I
- 7:04was at my mom's house and at the time I had quit the daycare,
- 7:13but I had started a part time photography job on the weekend at the Redmont
- 7:21Hotel. But it was only like every other Saturday. But to show you
- 7:27how low minimum wage is, I could make my whole check doing that one
- 7:32photography gig versus being at the daycare. So I was like, Mama,
- 7:38I think I want to quit this daycare. And she was like, oh,
- 7:41I thought you was just doing community service anyway. What is your mama's
- 7:47name? Ms? Linda? We might need you you so you gas people
- 7:53up, and the truth, I am a spinning image of Linda, she
- 8:00said she thought. Okay, So when she said that, that let me
- 8:03know that nobody was keeping me in that space of stagnation but me, because
- 8:09she never took that seriously anyway. But I didn't have nothing else going on.
- 8:13Girl, did you just hear what she just said? She said,
- 8:16I was doing something that somebody else was not taken seriously, but you took
- 8:24it seriously because you thought you needed it. I felt like the way I
- 8:28grew up, if you're not doing something productive, what are you doing?
- 8:31But what is productive? Exactly? So to me, I knew I can't
- 8:35just be sitting around at the house with this baby. And I didn't have
- 8:41a degree, and at the time, back in those times, twenty seventeen,
- 8:46content creation all that wasn't where it is today. Yeah, you can't
- 8:48just walk up in there and say, hey, I'm really good at marketing.
- 8:52I'm really good at this. Okay, where's your degree? Exactly?
- 8:56We was just talking about this. Oh, my sister told I'm gonna tell
- 8:58you on the camera. My sister Kendall kendl' dread. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:01she told me tell you, hey, tell her. I said, tell
- 9:05her right there. I'm still waiting on that play there, like I said
- 9:11it Kimball all right. So we were just talking about it with Kendall not
- 9:13too long ago. It was just like our parents, especially my daddy.
- 9:18We was just talking about our daddy's how they're similar. Was like you going
- 9:20to school, but that's what they knew. And so now we're get getting
- 9:24in the age where you can teach your kids. You can do what you
- 9:28want to do in real life that is not just no fair tale. You
- 9:31know, how they tell you in kindergarten was like whatever you want to be
- 9:35until they tell you that don't make money. And so now you need to
- 9:39find something that makes money if you want to be raised and live the lifestyle
- 9:43that you grew up on, or do you want to go backwards? So
- 9:48now you're settling just to be back in the same space you were at five
- 9:50years old. So these cookies all leo, these cookies got all to them,
- 9:56Okay, making fire on me, Like I try to tell you,
- 10:05well, cookies do it. They do to a certain extent. So give
- 10:09me a basic cookie, Like, just give me a because now now I'm
- 10:13curious because the cookies technically got all in it. But I was talking about,
- 10:16right, But but the symbolicness of that is in the cookie. Because
- 10:22if you don't keep your cookie on parchment, paper is gonna dry out.
- 10:26So your foundation gotta be a surface that can keep it moisturized. You see
- 10:33what I'm saying again seriously, because that's the thing. People like, what's
- 10:37the secret to your cookies? But the thing is I can give somebody else
- 10:41the same recipe, but their regimen might be different. You you're talking good.
- 10:46I love you said that because something I recognized on your on your platform,
- 10:50right, something I recognized on your platform is that you're literally telling people
- 10:54how. You're even telling people how, but you're still thriving. So now
- 10:58let's let's talk about. Yeah, you went from okay, so you go
- 11:01from baking your mama till you bake these cookies. Right now, mind you,
- 11:05what what age was your your son when you were when you I was
- 11:11still I started baking with him on my back in the carrier. So he
- 11:15was somewhere between eighteen months to two years old when I really started, you
- 11:20know, getting started. Wow. So yeah, he was small, so
- 11:24this is all he knows, like his mom being an entrepreneur. So it's
- 11:28interesting because I was raised by it heads. So I'm learning now that I
- 11:35get my creativity from them. But the way that they put into the world,
- 11:39it's very similar, but it looks different to the naked eye. Yeah,
- 11:41but both of my parents do it. But one is like a in
- 11:46the field, I like, if you My dad's job is to go fix
- 11:50the problem. He likes to be out there in the field, so he
- 11:54travels a lot, where my mom she's more of in the office of manager,
- 12:00project manager, risk all that, so she plans it. But they
- 12:03used their creativity in different ways. But growing up, I felt like the
- 12:07outcasts because I was artsy, fartsy, like I was a rapper, I
- 12:11was a photographer. I did those as you coal as your coal, okay,
- 12:16we can, We're gonna google it and find some awesome music. Yeah,
- 12:20and that you know, that's crazy. I just came to peace with
- 12:22that that that is a part of my past because when people started calling me
- 12:26the cookie Lady, I used to get so upset. Why because I was
- 12:31a rapper, and I was a big rapper at the time, but me
- 12:35having a child slowed all that down. So as I saw that identity fade
- 12:39to where people didn't even I used to ask your coal, what's up?
- 12:43What's up? Now? It's that's that's my cookie lady. My ego was
- 12:46bruised. That's that's interesting that you like what was actually providing for you.
- 12:56And I don't know, would you consider bacon couldies or baking? Yeah,
- 13:01cause you don't just do cookies. So those were cookie cups. But I
- 13:05specialized in cookies. But part of when you ask me, what am I
- 13:09working on right now? So I actually am coming off of a hiatus.
- 13:13I got burned out from baking. I saw that took off so fast,
- 13:18and when I say took off, it got to the point where I went
- 13:24from doing things nationally. But I was so quiet about it. People till
- 13:30this day have no idea what all I've really done because it wasn't on a
- 13:35local level, and I was going through so much at the time. I
- 13:39had twins, in the middle of a pandemic, out of a weird situation,
- 13:43I was trying to figure out who I was. I've been parenting throughout
- 13:46my whole twenties and people see this hour success, but I didn't know who
- 13:52I was. So I just stepped back because I was like, I'm losing
- 13:58myself and trying to keep up with the image that I don't even know if
- 14:01I identify with. Ooh my god. So I still kept creating, but
- 14:07I started doing something else. I got on TikTok, I was doing ash
- 14:11limited, I was doing hitting gyms. I was discovering businesses, trying to
- 14:15support small businesses, let people know, Hey, there's other businesses out here
- 14:18that y'all don't know about. Go check them out. But even with that,
- 14:22I got lost in that. I just kept feeling like I'm pouring,
- 14:26and I'm pouring, but where's mine? Where's my blessing? And it's not
- 14:31that I've ever done it to receive something, but when your cup is starting
- 14:37to run dry, how do you keep going? So make a long story
- 14:45short, I realized you nobody asked you to save anybody, but you doing
- 14:52everything but for yourself. Yeah, So I stepped back and I had to
- 14:56figure out, who are you outside of all of these amazing things that you
- 15:01do that part? Who are you if you stripped all that away? What
- 15:05you do? If you stripped all that away, Like, hey, you
- 15:09can't bake cookies no more than nothing? Who are you? And who is
- 15:15that? And I realized that I am a creative that just enjoys making things
- 15:22out of nothing on I'm a multifaceted artist. I don't want to be pinned
- 15:26as just this or that. But I also have to not run away from
- 15:31the roles I play because I'm afraid of being pinned. I'm afraid that I'm
- 15:35gonna lose my musician identity, or my photography identity, or my artist identity
- 15:41or my baking those are all of you. But I just got to the
- 15:46point where I didn't want to talk about any of any of it because I
- 15:50was afraid that the more I leaned into something, I was going to not
- 15:54be able to tap into other things. When I realized that if it's for
- 15:58you, it's for you. Yeah, and something can be a vessel for
- 16:03other things, but you have to be consistent with the entrust the process similar
- 16:17Okay, mm, it's like I've created, yes, that part that part
- 16:38like like we're all created and so growing up, Uh, she's always so
- 16:51a physician. And all my uncles Oh wow, so always build their own
- 17:00homes, all these that's so, that's so cool. I've always thought that
- 17:03was amazing. It's so good. I was like, it's so cool,
- 17:06like when you really get your family. That was at myself like, oh
- 17:08lord, I I just do this mm when here since I was twelve,
- 17:12but I just to paint. Like my my minor in college was our studio,
- 17:17Like oh wow, I uh I, I love to draw. That's
- 17:21when I got into photography. But I set myself on this path to be
- 17:25just a hairstyles as I began to allow guy to really as I began to
- 17:30get closer to him and and understand who he is, then I can understand
- 17:33who Yeah, Like I'm a creator. People like, oh what do you
- 17:37do? And I just say I'm a creator because yup, get to create
- 17:41in whatever lane and fast that he's given me in that moment, in that
- 17:45moment, exactly why to be okay with that? Like you know, some
- 17:48people like, oh, you just doing the most, that's the part.
- 17:53And I'm becoming okay with that. Like I think we just have to be
- 17:56become okay with who we are and just whatever. I agree, because I
- 18:04think that sometimes chasing that future self so much, you don't even appreciate when
- 18:11you were doing music, when you didn't have kids, or even your kids
- 18:15being small. You ain't none to get older so you can get something back
- 18:18you're not gonna get So I'm not who I was ten years ago, and
- 18:22I don't want to be right. This is a funny story. So Taco
- 18:26Bell brought back the chicken flatbread sandwich. Now y'all might not know, but
- 18:32back in high school, me and my friends were obsessed with this one dollar
- 18:37chicken flatbread sandwich. It was so good. It was basically the chicken casedia
- 18:41ingredients but on the flatbread. Okay, and me and my brothers made a
- 18:47joke. We were like, it's never gonna come back after ten years.
- 18:49We just gave up. And then we saw them bring it back, like,
- 18:53oh, try to sound don't do it. It's not good at all.
- 19:00So here's the thing. I don't know if they changed it or if
- 19:04I've outgrown that level of myself. I don't really like processed food no more,
- 19:10and I don't eat fast food as much. So is it really that
- 19:14it changed or it was I in the fantasy of something that no longer even
- 19:18serves me. I can't even focus what to do for me because I'm focused
- 19:22on a flatbread sandwich from twenty thirteen. Come on, Ashley, listen.
- 19:30When she was about I said, if she finna go down this street,
- 19:34I know she really this. You know, we got church mics and they
- 19:38be folks. Charity was acting like she wanted to preach over here. It's
- 19:42something about these browns. If y'all get connected to a something brown, just
- 19:48go ahead and sow the seed. Okay, because Bishop Brown over here.
- 19:52It's giving us some girl. It no longer serves me. And the thing
- 19:59about it is the beautiful thing about it is being a creative. Ash is
- 20:03that I'm learning. And I thank God for Tim Ross and his ability to
- 20:07expose his story through the basement. Right if you don't follow him, he's
- 20:11a good creative to follow. Hold on, but I think it has been
- 20:14around for a while. Yeah, the basement he year three years now.
- 20:18Okay, Okay, I'm thinking about a different basement. Go ahead, you
- 20:21try to talk about beet basement. Yes, yeah, that was good too,
- 20:25but that's not the saying. Okay, you're gonna have to link y'all
- 20:27have to link you into it. But Tim Ross is now a pot full
- 20:30time podcaster. God removed him from being a full time pastor, but everything
- 20:36he did as a full time pastor he's able to utilize as a full time
- 20:38part makes sense. Right before that, before he was I think, before
- 20:44he was in God or whatever for real, for real, he had a
- 20:47creative. He was rapping. He was a rapper. So now it is
- 20:52opening for his podcast. Every season he's spitting something different. Yeah, so
- 20:56now you're utilizing the tools. It never watched this, It never goes away.
- 21:00Fact, God watch this. God builds on what he's exposed to you.
- 21:06Yes, so now you're gonna be the wrapping cookie cutter. Seriously,
- 21:11because that is something that I've recently had an epiphany on that, like I
- 21:17need to just do me and be on apologetic. And when you said,
- 21:22hey, I notice that you're getting more comfortable, somebody else told me that
- 21:26randomly, like some random person just takes me and said, hey, I
- 21:30like this this new you, and I'm like, okay, thank you.
- 21:36You know. It was just kind of you know how, and sometimes spiritly
- 21:40somebody just send you something you're like, okay, but okay, it's no
- 21:44context here. But I appreciate that. But I realize what's really going on
- 21:48is I'm no longer trying to fit into any box. I'm just being the
- 21:52abundant me. I can be whatever I'm supposed to be doing in that moment
- 21:56and building off of what I already have. That's where the abundance is.
- 22:02But we be limiting ourselves. Like my mom was saying about the daycare,
- 22:04I thought you knew this was just a temporary situation. I don't know why
- 22:10you feel, like, why why do we make things permanent that we know
- 22:15in our heart that are not are part of our long term goals? Like
- 22:22why are we limiting even when you look at toxic situations that people will stay
- 22:27in and you know, you're like, I'm not gonna give advice on it.
- 22:30No more. They don't. They're not gonna change. They just they
- 22:33don't. They just want to keep doing this over and over, and we
- 22:36do it too. It's really because when something is vibrating on a low frequency
- 22:42and it's not serving you, you can pretty much statistically, because our brains
- 22:47are the original algorithm. As far as these phones and stuff, that's that's
- 22:52all it is. It's just a copy of what we already do with our
- 22:57minds. Naturally, if you see something play out that's very bad every day,
- 23:06you statistically have an idea mentally, how that's gonna go. I know
- 23:11I'm not gonna really get that raise. I know this man isn't really right
- 23:14for me. I know how this is gonna go. I know how my
- 23:17week. But when you step on faith and you go into uncharted territory,
- 23:21now you in a new algorithm. You don't know how that's gonna play out.
- 23:23So now fear is involved. So even though you know you're leaving something
- 23:26that doesn't serve you, you're losing that grip on something that you had control
- 23:32of. You see what I'm saying. And that's why we stay in it.
- 23:36It's not because we don't want better. It's because we know that I
- 23:40can predict this outcome every time I know you're gonna get me be pointed at
- 23:45you. But you are on target, ma'am. You like I feel like
- 23:49I'm I feel like I want a soul like like cause see she is on
- 23:55point right now. Because we lose we lose focus, because we allow fear
- 23:59to become folk, we lose, we lose the child like faith, Yes,
- 24:03the child like faith that it takes yes to go speak to that mountain
- 24:08and say, I command you to move the abilities that God has already bettered
- 24:12up. Because the gag is that when he created us, he's the We're
- 24:17the only creation, the one that was made in his image, but also
- 24:22made it his image to give us the power and dominion over where we are
- 24:26facing naturally exactly right. And so when we when we neglect that, when
- 24:30we negate that, that's when we feel like we have that low frequency because
- 24:33we're not coming up. Is that I'm gonna share this because I want to
- 24:37say this on camera because I've been saying this around the house for months now.
- 24:41My mom. This is so random, but somebody need to hear this.
- 24:45Come on now. My mom was on her way to the store and
- 24:52she had a car accident randomly, just we were on the phone at eleven
- 24:59eleven and she it just said sh and I'm thinking she didne lost signals.
- 25:03She'll call me back in a minute. I go to deliver some cookies in
- 25:07the opposite way after the lady already told me randomly she could meet me at
- 25:11the store my mom was going to when I told her that doesn't align with
- 25:17the route. It'll be a lot easier for me to just drop them off
- 25:19where you need them to be because it's a shorter distance. But I had
- 25:23to end up turning around anyway, because my mom has called me and said,
- 25:27hey, I need you to pick me up. I got a in
- 25:30a car accident. And I know, just from my mom's previous situations,
- 25:33when she's in shock, she doesn't call other she calls me. Instead of
- 25:37calling the police or calling she calls me. So I'm not sure is this
- 25:42a casual fender bender or did something happen Because I'm not sure. I pull
- 25:48up to the scene. Her car is completely total. I don't even know
- 25:53how she's standing there. Wow, I could have literally had talked to my
- 25:57mom for the last time right then, my best friend, she's sitting there,
- 26:03beautiful as ever, with her ponytail slightly out of place. That's it.
- 26:08And I'm looking at her car like mama, how she said, I
- 26:11don't even know. I just woke up upside down and climbed out. Oh
- 26:15my gosh. And I told her because that day we really could have lost
- 26:21our mom. Twin I have twin brothers, by the way, they're younger
- 26:22than me. They pulled up and we're sitting there hugging her, and the
- 26:26police officers say, hey, I hate to break up this happy home,
- 26:30but y'all got to get off the scene so we can clear this up.
- 26:32And I said, when I got home, I said, this is so
- 26:34crazy to me, how we're looking at you survive a deadly accident without a
- 26:41scratch. So the police officers casually moved us off the scene. But if
- 26:45that would have went the other way, they would have been acting totally different.
- 26:49And I said, why is it that when something good happens, it's
- 26:53the one percent? Why do we limit God like that? Why is it
- 26:56a miracle when it's a positive thing? But if she would have died,
- 27:03you know, everything happened for a reason. It's sad r ip. You
- 27:07know, people be dying every day, but when it's a positive outcome,
- 27:11you're blessed. Why are we shocked if we really trust God? Why does
- 27:18it have to be statistically low that you prevailed from that with a bruise in
- 27:25the shape of a heart. I'm just trying to understand, because if you
- 27:29truly trust that, you are favored, then why does it have to be
- 27:33a miracle statistically? If Yin and Yang truly exists fifty to fifty black and
- 27:40white, Now, why are we giving the negative side of energy so much
- 27:45authority? Thank you, We're giving it a lot of authority. Because,
- 27:49don't get me wrong, Yes, it is amazing that she survived. I
- 27:55had to realize that when we be sitting around talking about, like we say
- 27:59our affirmation, I'm safe, I'm protected, I'm loved. Are you just
- 28:03saying it or what? Because yeah, because now when it comes into play,
- 28:08no, that's what we believe. You know what I'm saying. We
- 28:12believe in those outcomes being possible. But I just want to share that because
- 28:18I think even in business success, why are we limiting ourselves statistically that oh,
- 28:23okay, you might be able to do that, but you know the
- 28:29chances No, because people go outside every day and do reckless stuff every day
- 28:33and we give them all the credit, but we never give it credit.
- 28:37Tabitha Brown saying, hey, we finna do this, yo, that's what's
- 28:41supposed to happen. Your platform is a line with what she own. My
- 28:45god, that's what's so crazy to me. We gotta start giving it more
- 28:51credit us. Yeah, yeah, we gotta start giving our ability through God
- 28:56more credit. That's all it come down to. You're talking, good woman,
- 29:02seriously, and that's all I got. No, that ain't all you
- 29:04got. That's a lie. That is she lying. That's not all she
- 29:07got. She's been spinning bars since she sat down. She walking the door.
- 29:12Just it's been Ashley. This is this is so powerful because what you're
- 29:21right now, I want you to tell I want to tell you what you're
- 29:22doing. You're allowing people to see a voice behind the cookie. You're allowing
- 29:30them to understand that God doesn't place me here on this platform just to be
- 29:34the cookie. The cookie lady, you know, I have a voice,
- 29:37I have a story, and I might swell smell sweet, but I've been
- 29:41through some stuff. Right. The beautiful thing about your story you were talking
- 29:45about earlier, earlier, and I don't want to buy past this. She
- 29:48was like, you were like that you had a lot of national recognition before
- 29:52you have a local recognition. In the word, there's a scripture that basically
- 29:55talks about a person, specifically a prophet, being known a pre she ated
- 30:00outside of his own territory. What was that transition like for you when you
- 30:04when you were naturally recognizing that all of a sudden the local cause, baby
- 30:08you are? You are the cooking lady for Fox six News. Yes,
- 30:11baby, Oh it's got a big gott it no Goto six news. I
- 30:18love. I used to love the little things when I was so I almost
- 30:22forgot about that. You just brought back a nostalgic memory because I totally forgot
- 30:26about that jingle. Really, I wonder when they took it away? Girl,
- 30:30I love. I used to love every time I used to. I
- 30:33used to. I used to be rocking, just like this. Oh what's
- 30:37gotta goddess? Totally forgot about that Far six news and that's oh baby,
- 30:45I was rocking. I think what's her name is? Janice missus Janne Yep,
- 30:49she's been there for a loan. She has a lot of them.
- 30:52Have they got that online? Period? But how did you go from because
- 30:56I will go my sister said that we ada, Well, I'm in the
- 31:03right space. What was your experience, like, what was your first experience
- 31:06nationally? How did that transpire and how did that move you closer to home
- 31:10and people recognize you locally? Okay, So I'll make the beginning of Ashley's
- 31:15famous cookies short and then we'll talk about the national and bring it back home.
- 31:19So starting off, my support was at home, so family and friends,
- 31:26people in Birmingham finding about the cookies through word of mouth and through social
- 31:30media. I do have a gift for social media marketing, so I used
- 31:37my passion for that to push my cookies and get them out there. So
- 31:41I did luckily get things going quickly in that area. From twenty eighteen,
- 31:48I was doing cookies in conversation at the BCRI, I was on the news,
- 31:53I had a Birmingham Times right up. All within six months. Wow.
- 31:59I was meeting people, connecting with celebrities all that quickly, and I
- 32:06was like, I don't know if I put in the work to be getting
- 32:09this type of blessing. Ashley. Oh no, no, no, no,
- 32:12no, no, no, no no, no, you can't wait,
- 32:15Ashley, that is so real. Oh I almost cried on that one.
- 32:21Lord, I just started this and you're giving me this level of exposure.
- 32:27Facts, how did you overcome that feeling? So I had recently read
- 32:32The Alchemist right before that, and I know there was this thing called beginner's
- 32:37luck and it's like you being able to have an easy breakthrough so you won't
- 32:40give up when it gets hard. But at the end of the book,
- 32:45he had traveled the whole world spoiler alert skip. He traveled the whole world
- 32:51because he had a dream that his treasure was on the other side of the
- 32:55of wherever he went. So he went through this whole journey. He met
- 32:59at alcheml and he finally gets there and he gets beat up by these men
- 33:02in the desert and they're like, you, silly fool. I once had
- 33:06a dream that my treasure was back basically at his house. They described the
- 33:13sheep and wherever he was from, he was like a shepherd. So he's
- 33:16like what, So he travels all the way back home to look under his
- 33:22little poor shed, and there was a treasure under there the whole time.
- 33:25But you get the point of the story. Yeah, the whole time.
- 33:30It was here the whole time. You feel me So that beginner's luck.
- 33:34Sometimes I think it's because we go through all these things to realize we had
- 33:37it the whole time, like you said, building off of things. So
- 33:39I think my last five years after that Beginner's luck, there were a lot
- 33:44of abundant outward moments, but inwardly I was still searching for the purpose when
- 33:49I am just now realizing that it was here the whole time. So that
- 33:52beginner's luck. You have to remember, Hey, you are supposed to have
- 33:58at don't think you supposed to go through the strug once again. Why do
- 34:01we have this struggle? I'm trying to understand why we are so especially in
- 34:07the black community. We feel like if we don't struggle or make our kids
- 34:09struggle, then it's not deserving. It doesn't make sense. It's so good.
- 34:14So you have everything you're supposed to have, you supposed to have,
- 34:17you don't need to struggle. This is the moment you're supposed to be in.
- 34:21This is so good. So twenty eighteen, cool boom, and I
- 34:25lost the baby weight, I'm getting small, the business booming. I didn't
- 34:30even mix a little wrapping into it, like my kid getting older at this
- 34:32point. So I'm finding myself again. Twenty nineteen, I'm doing pop ups,
- 34:39I'm doing all that stuff, and I'm still progressing the cookies. But
- 34:45at the end of twenty nineteen, I got pregnant with twins, and then
- 34:49the pandemic happened. So now I've personally set myself back. I'm doing the
- 34:54math. I went from one to three, and I know how one was.
- 34:58I'm still a single mom. I'm trying to run a business, and
- 35:00now we don't even know if we can breathe outside. So I'm at home
- 35:07trying to make it work. But I'm now transitioning to just shipping because people
- 35:15don't want their food touch and I don't want to keep meeting people in person,
- 35:21having contact with people. Because I'm pregnant with twins. I'm already high
- 35:24risk. The mortality rate for black women, and not just America but in
- 35:29Alabama is so high, and I'm trying to survive his pregnancy in a state
- 35:31that don't even care about me being pregnant. So I don't want to catch
- 35:36nothing. And I don't want to be in a position to where I got
- 35:37to have these kids early without any help, because at the time you couldn't
- 35:42have anybody in the room with it, right. So I'm up against a
- 35:45lot of stuff, not to mention the anxiety of the domestic issue that I
- 35:50felt like I was in at the time. So fast forward the kids.
- 35:55I think it was twenty twenty one. At this point, they're eight nine
- 36:01months old, and I'm like, I gotta now. I feel like I
- 36:04gotta make up for lost time, right because I done slowed all the way
- 36:08down. So you know, when you start burning out because you're trying to
- 36:12catch up for all the time. I'm creating all kind of content, and
- 36:15at the time, cookies weren't where they are today. When I was doing
- 36:21gore andmet cookies and break aparts, it won't a lot of people did.
- 36:22It wasn't. It wasn't, and I don't talk about this stuff, but
- 36:27a lot of big corporations have copied businesses like mine. I'm gonna just leave
- 36:30it like that. So I'm watching them hit the scene and them going viral
- 36:36and them doing their thing, and I'm like, my breakuparts aren't even hitting
- 36:39like they used to because now it's the norm to see something that's not chocolate
- 36:44chip or oatmeal. I'm like, dang, So I started getting crazy.
- 36:47I'm breaking cookies at the fair. My mama's skirting up to the fair.
- 36:51I'm pulling outside no ticket, breaking cookies. I'm downstairs in front of the
- 36:55Alabama Theater breaking cookies. I'm not actually there, I'm pulling up look a
- 37:00hot mess with twins crying in the back, breaking cookies, just trying to
- 37:04trying to get my content on because I'm thirsty. I'm thirsty, but make
- 37:10a long story short, nothing was popping off. And then Ashley Gooden from
- 37:16ABC, she was like, girl, I really want to She was like,
- 37:21you them cookies look so good. She's like, I really want to
- 37:22do a segment on you, but I got to figure out how to tie
- 37:27it to something going on, because you can't just give businesses free advertisement.
- 37:31It's got to be something tied to it. And she was like, hum,
- 37:37have you dealt with inflation or you know, anything like that? And
- 37:44I'm like, yeah, you know, we're definitely dealing with that because at
- 37:46the time everything was just rising. This was before it got as bad as
- 37:50it is now. Yeah, but we thought that was the worst. Like,
- 37:52yeah, I've dealt with that. She's like, you also dealt with
- 37:55like the limitational product, yes, supply chain issues all that. So she
- 38:02was like, okay, Ashley whipped that thing up. We recorded the segment
- 38:08and she was like it'll be on tonight after the basketball game. I forgot
- 38:14what basketball game it was, but it was the biggest game at the time,
- 38:16and I was like, oh wow, okay, she did that quick.
- 38:20So the game goes off. I'm watching. I'm like, okay,
- 38:22this is like my first write up, you know, on the news per
- 38:28se. That's not just like I was a part of an event and I
- 38:30got my little five seconds. This is my segment. So she she goes
- 38:37on there and Janis actually is the one saying the write up. So she's
- 38:43like, ashle sweamius cookies, but blah blah blah blah. And I remember
- 38:45my phone pinged ten times, my website goes stay d. I'm like,
- 38:50oh my god, nothing nothing, not a single cell. This one lady
- 38:55called me and she was like a older lady, and I could tell she
- 38:59was just really just trying to talk, like hey, you know, I
- 39:02want to order cookies, but I don't know how to use the internet.
- 39:06And I sat there and talked to this lady for ten minutes and after it
- 39:08was over, silence. Wow. And I was like, Okay, that's
- 39:14cool, that's all right. And this was local news, right. So
- 39:19I had kept saying I have it on recording million by May, a million
- 39:22by May. I'm gonna have a million by May. I wasn't specific lord,
- 39:27but I kept saying a million by May. And it was May twenty
- 39:31ninth, and I recorded holding my twins outside of my minivan. I said,
- 39:36Mama, I want to get this on recording because I still believe I'm
- 39:37I have a million by May, and she I said, for everybody,
- 39:42I want to put this on recording. I'm gonna have a million by May.
- 39:45So May thirty. First, I get a call from this lady and
- 39:52I didn't answer. And the night before me and my mom was up till
- 39:55four in the morning. You know how you just got to talk to your
- 39:59person and you don't know why you can't sleep, but y'all over analyzing everything.
- 40:02We just up. You know what I'm talking about. It'd be them
- 40:06long and like, man, we got to go to sleep, but you
- 40:08hitting on something. And so that next morning, I said, Mama,
- 40:13got a voicemail from this lady and she was like, Hi, this is
- 40:16Kate from Fox and Friends and we just want to know if you have been
- 40:21dealing with supply chain issues and this and that. And I never heard of
- 40:24Fox and Friends. I don't watch Fox like that. I don't I'm not
- 40:29on that. First off, I don't watch news anyway. But now that
- 40:31I'm more familiar with Fox and Friends, I had never heard of that.
- 40:36So I was like, mom, do you know what Fox and Friends is?
- 40:38They sent me a voicemail. I don't know what she's talking about,
- 40:42like Fox and girl, you know what that is? Of course, I
- 40:45folks know, I don't know what that is. The TV show that's the
- 40:50number one morning show for Fox National News. What I look it up?
- 40:55They average over a million viewers. Girl, I'm like what. So now
- 41:04I'm calling this lady bag and she's questioning me like I'm already on air because
- 41:07they want to see can you so tell me are you doing this? This?
- 41:13This? Yes, bah bah blah blah blah. Okay, so how
- 41:15about are you available for five Eastern time in the morning to do a segment.
- 41:22I'm like, my drain had no sleep because I've been up and alyzed
- 41:25in the spirit. I'm like, yeah, yeah, sure. So now
- 41:32I still don't really really realize what I've gotten myself into. So now me
- 41:37and my family are in Sam's Club, and I kid you not imagine you
- 41:43know you're in this realm, but your mind is moving in slow mod I'm
- 41:46picking up flower, But my spirit feel like everybody moving is slow more because
- 41:51I know I'm getting myself into something way deeper than fifty packs of flower gonna
- 41:55be able to handle. But I'm trying to prepare the best I can.
- 42:00But I know this isn't adding up. Like I'm not joking. It felt
- 42:05like, you know, when everybody just moving like this, because I'm shook,
- 42:08because I'm like, I'm appearing to be a regular person in the store,
- 42:13but I'm preparing for the biggest of my life on a platform where everybody
- 42:19is die hard Trump fans. I don't know nothing about that side of politics.
- 42:23I'm scared because this is a totally different realm of people that I would
- 42:29normally target. You see what I'm saying. So the next morning, once
- 42:35again, it's still no sleep because guess what, it's news. You up
- 42:37at three in the morning and you got an ear piecing, and this is
- 42:40at the this is I'm at a commercial kitchen at the time, and it's
- 42:47three in the morning and I'm sitting there and I'm listening to them talk politics.
- 42:52Don't dawn blah blah blah blah blah, and Trump said this, and
- 42:55I mean, what do you think he's gonna do. What do you think
- 42:59they're gonna do? And I'm like you em my element they argued about here
- 43:06in the office. No listen, I can't see nothing this camera. It
- 43:10was just like that, but it was my phone. I couldn't see nothing.
- 43:14And I'm just hoping my connection to Skype don't don't drop because I'm doing
- 43:20National news off my phone. So oh, you're not going to go beyond
- 43:27that. So okay, Paul's right here. Okay, this is to be
- 43:34digesting. This is my first time. Bro. It's just as the podcast.
- 43:38This this the oil. This is the annoying over here. This lady
- 43:42just said what I'm talking you because you're doing so much. This lady just
- 43:46said that the lady from the friends in Fox the Fox, and she had
- 43:52the gold to psalms and be prepared the best segment if five o'clock Eastern standardside,
- 44:01So it's four o'clock, yes, ma'am, where it's going. I
- 44:04gotta be prepared way before that because they got to test you. Hey,
- 44:08can you hear us? Okay? Great? Angle? Your camera okay,
- 44:12awesome? And your camera is your phone? That part Ashley on your own
- 44:19National I want you all to hear something. She was on national news now,
- 44:24a national platform, with using what she had. She said yes with
- 44:30nothing, Yes, she said yes with what she already has, the kick.
- 44:34I didn't have the plug with local Fox yet, so I couldn't just
- 44:39I couldn't just say can I go to their station? Because this is all
- 44:45happening in twenty four hours. I don't have enough time. And I'm also
- 44:50not trying to put that type of attention on me locally because I don't know
- 44:54what I'm getting myself into. So I don't want local in my business because
- 44:59I don't know what I'm I don't even know yet if this is something I'm
- 45:01trying to have eyes on me, like, oh you doing this? I
- 45:05don't know yet. I this is a call I just got, so I'm
- 45:08gonna just do it on my phone. Mind you here, normal person.
- 45:15In my mind, I'm like you about to be exposed to the whole country.
- 45:19But the season I was in, I told you, I ain't had
- 45:21nothing going on for real. I was playing ketchup, I got small kids,
- 45:25infant twins. I'm exhausted. I don't know if this is something I
- 45:30want to try to I don't like I be dimming my life. I don't
- 45:34want people looking at me. Don't don't, don't hate on me. I'm
- 45:38just trying to do something I'm not. Don't hate on me that makes me
- 45:42uncomfortable. So I didn't won't burning him because see, those are people I
- 45:46know why. I don't want them to know that I got this going on,
- 45:50cause that's just gonna put energy on what I just don't worry about it.
- 45:53Right now. This is so boom. My eyelash get in my eye
- 46:01right before they go you about to go on? Are you serious? I'm
- 46:07twitching because my contact I'm like crap. So I'm like this, I kid
- 46:12you not, and I can't see because I'm just trusting that I'm looking in
- 46:15the right area because I know that these are big news anchors and they're gonna
- 46:20flash my face in but I can't see them. So I'm pretending that I'm
- 46:24looking at these big celebrity news anchors. I don't. I can't see them,
- 46:30and my eye missed up, so I'm fixing it as they're like,
- 46:34you're about to go live after this commercial, so here I am. It's
- 46:39hurt. It's hurt. It's a reculection you can imagine how scary it is
- 46:45because it already sound official. It's it's the sound that so loud in the
- 46:52little sound of it, boom boom, I'm like, this is too much,
- 46:57And then I already know, are you order sound right now? Okay?
- 47:01They usually drop it when it's something they want to fear monger. Oh
- 47:07you know what I'm talking about. It's like man Biden about to do this
- 47:13boom boom, the war about to do this, and this national news,
- 47:15so they know they feeding this energy to the whole country. So they really
- 47:20feeding it. So I can't see and I don't like I shy away from
- 47:24that type of stuff anyway. So now y'all messing up my I can't even
- 47:28get grounded because I hear y'all talking all this stuff in my ear and I'm
- 47:32just waiting on the cookie signet. And now I'm scared because I'm like,
- 47:37are they gonna put that on me? I thought I was just gonna talk
- 47:40about inflation. I don't want to talk about politics. I don't want to
- 47:44talk about red and blue states. Oh lord, did I get myself in
- 47:47something? Wow? So when it comes on, Hey Ashley, how are
- 47:52you? I'm looking I don't see nobody. I'm doing so well. We're
- 47:57talking and she's talking about inflation in this and it was a very nice segment.
- 48:01It was so positive that I was kind of shocked. I'm like,
- 48:06oh, okay, that was cool. Maybe they've wanted to throw a little
- 48:08like comment life in there, you know, a lighting Today segment for the
- 48:12day. So I get off boom. How long was that segment? It
- 48:19was like three to five minutes, okay, but it felt like forever.
- 48:21Yeah, okay, And I get off and my phone is pinning. B
- 48:27me me me, me, me, me me me b b me me
- 48:30b it's frozen up. Your site froze. My phone is frozen. I
- 48:37don't know what the site got going on, because when I tell you this
- 48:39thing, now, mind you just less than a week ago, ten pins,
- 48:44and I'm thinking I'd have made it. You see what I'm saying,
- 48:46Because numbers is all about your perception. That's why they say a penny to
- 48:51somebody who's a dollar to a million, it's just the same number. You
- 48:53just add another zero. But what are you familiar to is how you're gonna
- 48:58perceive it. Wow, So a dollar to me might be one hundred dollars
- 49:00to the next man might be a million, because once you get in that
- 49:04rim of numbers, that's why you have to control yourself, because followers and
- 49:07all that, you'll keep chasing because it doesn't end. So ten pins the
- 49:12other day and now boom, twenty three thousand dollars in cells and find I
- 49:19was three. Yeah, but that was just in that moment. It went
- 49:22up from there, But that was just in that moment. Twenty three thousand
- 49:27dollars in cells while I was on the thing, while I was talking.
- 49:34Yeah, so they buying while you on three to five minutes with a lady
- 49:38and you you about to lose your mind because you think you're finna talk about
- 49:42Trump. I'm spookes, I hain't nothing. All you can do is here
- 49:47and watch this. All she can do, y'all is here. That's it.
- 49:53That's it. So literally, she had to focus on the voice that
- 49:58was telling her to make this beautiful white woman is in front of me.
- 50:04I saw her picture the night before, and that intimidated me more because she
- 50:07looked like she'd been doing this for a long time. Very beautiful, and
- 50:10she's sitting there and I can tell that she's a very adored anchor. So
- 50:15I got someone that they already on that station really adore you, see what
- 50:22I'm saying. But she adored you enough to call you for the three five
- 50:24seas exactly. The producer put me with her. She didn't have to do
- 50:29that. She could have just put me with one of the men on the
- 50:30segment. She put me with the adored woman anchor of the segment. So
- 50:35they made sure it felt it felt nice and bright, and it wasn't as
- 50:42boom boom boom as the commercials right before. So the whole time you gonna
- 50:47have I'm telling you, so the whole time from the ride back home.
- 50:53By the time I got home, it was closer to thirty thousand, and
- 50:58it trickled for the last few days after that, it would just trickle by,
- 51:04you know, one hundreds, you know, people following it. Okay,
- 51:08So this this where the story get interesting. So on this particular segment,
- 51:16I can't remember how many it was because this is this is a this
- 51:21is something else. It was not a thousand, but it was somewhere in
- 51:24the like hundreds. But let me tell you how bad it was. I
- 51:30did not have my sight set up for this, so I had variety packs,
- 51:32I had individual cookies. I had, you could get six. I
- 51:37don't even know how I'm gonna calculate this because I didn't set my site up
- 51:40to accommodate a vast amount of orders. So how am I gonna know how
- 51:45to bake this? Because it is coming off as this person got six of
- 51:49these, one of this, a variety pack of this. How do you
- 51:52put that in the excel sheet? So even though I couldn't really I can't
- 51:57really recall how many orders it was. It was somewhere between five to seven
- 52:00hundred orders, but I don't know exactly what the amount was because of how
- 52:07it came in. You know what I'm saying, I've put it out my
- 52:09mind. It was literally traumatizing, So your SOPs were not solidified at the
- 52:15time. You were just going exactly. And when I got home, I
- 52:17remember my mom was printing out orders. I will show you the book.
- 52:22She started printing them out and there was printer paper this high, and she
- 52:30was like, this is just from five am to twelve from lunch. She
- 52:35was like, I haven't even gotten to the other half of the orders.
- 52:37It felt like somebody died. Now I want you to catch this a blessing
- 52:42so big that you paralyzed, like somebody died. I'm just sitting on the
- 52:46couch like this for hours. It wasn't even at first my first started twenty
- 52:52three thousand. Oh my god. Now I'm like, I gotta bake this.
- 53:00I actually I gotta. I gotta provide a product. I'm sitting here.
- 53:04This ain't no digital, It isn't no NPC, these cookies, and
- 53:07all these people that order at five in the morning. So in their mind
- 53:10they thinking they were the one who order at this time. Baby, you
- 53:15and the rest of the country ordered at five am. You're not the only
- 53:16one. When I flip through the stack, the stat be this big before
- 53:20you get ten minutes on the on the clock. So I'm sitting there.
- 53:23I remember my brother. I have twin brothers, and they're like opposite.
- 53:28One is like six five ones five ten, and they've always been like the
- 53:31Yinni yang twins. But he tasked me on the shoulder and he's like,
- 53:36Ashley, you gotta get up, Ashley. These are real order, Ashley,
- 53:43these folks that ordered off yourself. You got to provide, you got
- 53:46we gotta And the beautiful part about your family. Is that they said we're
- 53:51doing it with you facts, because that was when I knew that they really
- 53:55roll in me. My brothers put me through it when I was little man
- 54:00having little brothers and then twinsday already tight. Yeah, I'm like, bruh,
- 54:04you really rock with me because the trauma that we went through trying to
- 54:08get them cookies out is a whole nother story. So that was the first
- 54:15time, and I still didn't tell nobody here for real. I posted a
- 54:17little video saying thank you foughts and friends, but I knew that the people
- 54:22who were coming to my page from that platform would understand. But I wasn't
- 54:25really worried about Birmingham people knowing what it was because I didn't even know what
- 54:29it was for real. So I'm like, if they know, they're not
- 54:30gonna take the time to really try to dig into that. So I'm like,
- 54:34thank you foughtsing friends, but nobody knew. Six months later, they
- 54:38call again for a Chris for December December first. It was June first,
- 54:44Rox and friends. Yeah, six months so now it's twenty twenty one.
- 54:47Boom the next year. No, I'm sorry. Six months later December first,
- 54:52so six months June first to December first, they call again and make
- 54:57a long story short, I did it it again, but this time it
- 55:00was seventy three thousand in cells, and I'm just gonna say this, make
- 55:09a long story short. That was way worse. It was triple the amount
- 55:15that it was last time. And after all was said and done, I
- 55:20was grateful. But after you cut costs and everything and you didne did all
- 55:24of that, I was like, I will never do this again. It's
- 55:30so traumatizing because I realized that I'm putting my energy in the wrong space.
- 55:36I don't want to go viral. I don't want a quick moment. I
- 55:38want studies, consistent financial stability. I do not want to be sitting here
- 55:47with people all over the country wanting cookies from me that they order a month
- 55:52ago. Baby, I'm baking as fast as I can until this day.
- 55:55I know nobody I know has ever been through nothing like that. So I
- 55:58don't even talk about it because it's so astronomical. When I look back on
- 56:04it now, I don't even know. I know it was God because when
- 56:07I tell you so many cookies, let me put it into perspective for you.
- 56:12The cookies I make on a fool, Like a large pan, you
- 56:15can only do six. And I'm not talking about like people's regular pants,
- 56:20but the biggest pan you can put in your oven, you can only do
- 56:22six. You can't do twelve. Your cookies are not the normal size exactly.
- 56:29So if I did twelve thousand cookies and my cookies are about two and
- 56:34a half two to two and a half regular cookies, depending on how small
- 56:37a big most people think they big cookies are, that's twenty No shade the
- 56:44cookie game, get real, nasty man. But the twenty four I did
- 56:47about twenty four to twenty six thousand cookies that December, if you estimated to
- 56:53what another baker would have said they did, and dull and as fast as
- 56:59you can bait never again, because it's so much on your mental You man
- 57:06a shower, You be so thankful to just take a shower. You wake
- 57:09up. It's cookies, you bacon, you packing. It's a non stop
- 57:14factory and it's nothing fun about it. And after you cut all them costs,
- 57:19you be looking at it like, yes, okay, there is a
- 57:22nice little lump sum, But compared to what I put me and my people
- 57:25through, Yeah, no, yeah, this is yeah. I was just
- 57:31about to ask yeah differently. Okay, so this is so funny, Like
- 57:37you know when stuff hits you and you have to trust, like go with
- 57:42it. I had a little extra money left over from the first time,
- 57:45and I remember it was like October and my mom was like, I didn't
- 57:52we need to get a dual oven put over here in the corner. And
- 57:55my mom shouts my mom because when I tell you, she is the only
- 58:00person that has really rolling me through this creative journey of just not people be
- 58:05like, man, I wish I could be full time. Baby. I
- 58:07stay with my mom. Girl. I live in my mom's house. Me
- 58:13and my three kids are in my room that I grew up in. People
- 58:16don't know that because you're freeing somebody, right. They just think everybody's sitting
- 58:21up here in a loft somewhere. Baby. My mom says, I'm working,
- 58:27so you can do you because she trust in my creative journey. And
- 58:32I be telling people it's not like I'm just sitting up here on bread.
- 58:36I'm just constantly creating. But the bread don't be there. I'd be a
- 58:42zero dollars sometimes and I people, are you killing it? I'll thank you
- 58:45so much, But it ain't like that all the time, especially when you
- 58:51really truly just taking the entrepreneur route. Sometimes you up high and sometimes you
- 58:57down real low. So back to the store, Sory, she was like,
- 59:01I think we need to go ahead and get this oven installed. So
- 59:04we had one of it already installed right before that first thoughts and friends happened.
- 59:09What a coincidence. And this was a convection oven, so most people's
- 59:14home ovens, it's not a convection, which means you can't bake more than
- 59:17one trade at a time without rotating because it's not a circular motion of air.
- 59:23It's just coming from the top or the bottom, so you can't bake
- 59:27cookies on every rack at one time. So we had already went from leveling
- 59:30up from me thinking I'm killing it in twenty eighteen till my mama being like
- 59:36you in the kitchen all day baking a pan at a time. We need
- 59:38to upgrade to a convection, so now I'm doing three pans at a time.
- 59:42I love your mom, yeah, miss she is. So now she's
- 59:50like, I don't know why, but it's on my heart that you need
- 59:52to go in and put six bands on an oven right here. So we
- 59:55took like the part of our kitchen that we would just put like a little
- 59:59like brea this table. It's like a weird little space because it's like the
- 1:00:02house gives you a dining room, but we never used it as that.
- 1:00:06That turned into an office and we would just always sit like right in front
- 1:00:08of the little window because it's just like this big little space, like why
- 1:00:13they put this here. So she was like, we're just gonna put a
- 1:00:15duel oven here. And we had this man, this electrician, come in
- 1:00:21and he built this wall to where it looks like it's meant to be there,
- 1:00:23like he built a wall around it. So now I have three convection
- 1:00:27ovens, which means I can bake three to four pans of cookies in each
- 1:00:30oven at a time. So productivity has went from one pan to three pans
- 1:00:36to twelve pans, which is equal to the same amount of pans that if
- 1:00:38I was to rent out a commercial kitchen for space, it's the same amount.
- 1:00:44So I'm like, that's cool. I ain't really got all that traffic
- 1:00:47right now, but I know if I get busy for Christmas, you're prepared
- 1:00:52for I'm ready because now it's the holidays and we got three ovens. That's
- 1:00:55all right. They didn't call it again, and I'm thinking we ready because
- 1:01:00them twenty three thousand dollars seals and got none, no, not three of
- 1:01:02them. It's been triple it. And tell me how you do that.
- 1:01:07I didn't play with God every dinner. Look, oh you want to run
- 1:01:13up? Get done up? Okay, never again. So now whenever I
- 1:01:17go on National News, I go on there a lot still to this day,
- 1:01:22but I usually close my site and get people to subscribe because I realize,
- 1:01:27as a marketing person, I would rather have long term customers who are
- 1:01:30truly interested in my product than people who are impulsively buying because they are a
- 1:01:37big fan of what they're seeing. The platform I'm on this is so you
- 1:01:42are, you are given. You are giving gems right now. So now
- 1:01:45if shout out to my fuss and friend customers, you there because you really
- 1:01:50like me versus you're not my target audience and I enslaved, broke my back
- 1:01:54trying to serve you, and you're never gonna come back again, even if
- 1:01:58you did like the cookies, because you only bottom because somebody else told you
- 1:02:01to for your one time like, oh, I support the little their little
- 1:02:05cookie business. Now that you know what they be saying, you ain't gotta
- 1:02:08say. We ain't gotta y'all know what y'all be saying, because I'm like,
- 1:02:13I don't want to be the little token person exactly, but obviously for
- 1:02:19when they see something in you to continuously bring them because for my understand that
- 1:02:23you can be as honest as you can possibly be. They're not making money
- 1:02:27off you being on the show. They just invite you because okay, it
- 1:02:30works works for them their platform, and so the people are seeing, you
- 1:02:34know, like, oh okay, that's qus you the cookie. But I
- 1:02:37think your strategy behind it is so brilliant, like people like it's almost like
- 1:02:40what coach c J said to us one day in seven I'm in a seven
- 1:02:44figure podcast community, right, and he was like, I think I forgot
- 1:02:50what that man name is, but don't believe me. Just watch something like
- 1:02:52don't one Hit Wonder. He was not prepared for the follow up on that.
- 1:02:58And so now as an entrepreneur, I'm not I'm set up like we
- 1:03:01talked about, you know, tablet, Miss Temnis Tabitha, I'm already in
- 1:03:06my in my vein, in my lane. So when people go, well
- 1:03:07let me go check this girl out, Boom, there it is. You
- 1:03:09know what I'm saying, let me go see what she's offering. Boom.
- 1:03:13That is? Now is that some are there some things I still need to
- 1:03:15work on the finish on Desilray. Yes, I I got your text message
- 1:03:19the other day. Yes, ma'am. However, I'm more prepared than I
- 1:03:22would have been last year or the year before that. You know what I'm
- 1:03:27saying, with without the opportunity, and so I think what you're setting people
- 1:03:30up to believe is that, no, you want some consistency and when the
- 1:03:35when the one hit thing or the miracle happens, or that one moment,
- 1:03:39that's like, oh surprise, you're already set up for the production of that
- 1:03:44man. That that what you just said just blessed a lot of you don't
- 1:03:47even know ash like it just blessed. It blessed me because it's like sometimes
- 1:03:52we were like, oh, God, just need one moment. No,
- 1:03:53you need your preparation, the dad, take those steps. You need to
- 1:03:58do what I told you to do. You need to walk in over,
- 1:04:00you need to let this go you need to walk out away from the daycare.
- 1:04:02You need to go ahead and burn these kids, because watch these these
- 1:04:05kids gonna help you. Baby, these colds. Listen, they be trying
- 1:04:09and they you know what, they are so good really, and let me
- 1:04:14tell you, people gotta stop minimizing these children. I'm tired of hearing this
- 1:04:17generation is. Let me tell you something, everybody, I don't care if
- 1:04:21you got a kid or not. You know how y'all be running behind them
- 1:04:26latest iPhones. This is the latest human being. Girls. The baby born
- 1:04:32today is the latest evolution of This is the twenty twenty four human and you
- 1:04:39want to date on this. These kids are so creative. They want to
- 1:04:42go outside. You don't want to go outside. They on their tablet because
- 1:04:45of you, not them. They want to explore. Talk to them and
- 1:04:48be honest with them. You don't have to expose them to weird stuff,
- 1:04:54but be honest with them when it come up, because they already know intuitively.
- 1:04:58They trying to see if you gonna be honest. If them kids like
- 1:05:02to build, it don't mean he gonna be the next engineer. That's not
- 1:05:05You don't have to put that type of pressure because as a creative. Sometimes
- 1:05:12you just exploring you don't know what you're gonna do, but encourage them to
- 1:05:15keep on throw some stuff. You know what I got cookie, though,
- 1:05:18I ain't gonna do nothing with here, just you can have fun. Yeah,
- 1:05:24and some days no, it's a serious business and I gotta get these
- 1:05:27to the post office by five, So no, you can't bake today.
- 1:05:30But people have to understand that the same way every see. The thing is
- 1:05:35they try to separate all the generations to where we won't be one. My
- 1:05:40generation was on this, y'all, not on this, No, because now
- 1:05:43we're losing the communication between each other. Good, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:05:46So now I'm realizing, like even though it was really scary having those
- 1:05:51kids and me making a conscious decision that I know I'm gonna be a single
- 1:05:56mom with these kids, I still did it because my spirit was like,
- 1:06:01I can't do nothing else. I'm not gonna be able to live with nothing
- 1:06:04else. Because not because I'm strongly against the other option, it's my personal
- 1:06:12belief. For me, I don't feel comfortable these are blessings twins in twenty
- 1:06:19twenty. I know they're here for a reason because I'm still trying to figure
- 1:06:25out how I even did this, like not literally, but just like wow,
- 1:06:30okay, boom, Now I got to do better for you guys.
- 1:06:35Start repeating the same cycle. I'm getting washed in the same cycle. Every
- 1:06:40time I feel like I'm getting some freedom back, I'm getting pregnant again.
- 1:06:45So now I gotta figure out what am I Why am I keep getting washed
- 1:06:48in the same load. It's something I'm not taking from this, and I'm
- 1:06:53doing this pattern over and over. So now I know that y'all are going
- 1:06:58to be a part of of what's meant for me. But I gotta also
- 1:07:01level up my wisdom, my maturity, my discernment because I'm doing something that's
- 1:07:08not adding up. So now that they're here, And it's so funny because
- 1:07:12when I started my motherhood journey, I was pregnant right after I dropped the
- 1:07:15hottest mixtape everl I gotta listen to it. I gotta listen to it,
- 1:07:19and I know it was driven. And yeah, now that I have three
- 1:07:25and it's like from twenty one to twenty nine, I'm like, wow,
- 1:07:28I've been being a parent my whole twenties, and I grind it so hard
- 1:07:33because I was taught like, get on it. You know, I was
- 1:07:35never on a yacht. I never got fluid out. I was grinding the
- 1:07:42whole time. And now that I'm in twenty nine, I'm like, Okay,
- 1:07:46it's now all hitting me like it wasn't necessarily a punishment or you're not
- 1:07:51deserving a being in those spaces, but you need to appreciate what you got
- 1:07:56going on right now, because people walk up me every day and be like,
- 1:08:00man, they gonna be big and you gonna you know, I remember
- 1:08:03when my twins were that little, and now they twenty one. I was
- 1:08:05like, Okay, God keep sending me people in the store, and I'm
- 1:08:10like, I'm realizing that I can't keep lingering on hip hop, Ashley.
- 1:08:14I can't keep lingering on the possibilities of the photography I was trying to dabble
- 1:08:17into. I really don't even know how long I'm gonna want to bake.
- 1:08:23Like Drake said, when I stop having fun with it, I'll be done
- 1:08:27with it. So I need to just appreciate where I'm at and stop trying
- 1:08:31to be somewhere else and try to stop trying to marry the thing that God
- 1:08:36is just using temporary exactly and build off of it like you don't have to
- 1:08:41keep on like I got so mad. I remember I had a quarter life
- 1:08:45crisis last year and I was suffering from imparter syndrome. I didn't want to
- 1:08:47have a title. I changed my bio every day on TikTok. I'd be
- 1:08:51like the multifaceted artist. Naw, that ain't it, the creative, No,
- 1:08:56the baker. I was just like, I don't want a title.
- 1:08:59And my friend was like, like you, anytime something starts going good for
- 1:09:02you, you run from it because you're afraid you getting locked into it.
- 1:09:05And I was like, dang, why am I doing this? And I
- 1:09:10was like, I'm putting limitations on everything that I can do. Like you
- 1:09:14were saying in the beginning, you don't have to subscribe to one thing.
- 1:09:17You can do whatever. If it's hair photography, you can do it all.
- 1:09:21And I think that's where they try to get us, because if we
- 1:09:25don't feel comfortable tapping into everything, then we won't never move. We'll always
- 1:09:30be at their job, working for seven dollars and twenty five cent an hour,
- 1:09:33or doing whatever we don't want to do because we're afraid that. Well,
- 1:09:36I've done this for so long. I don't know if I can do
- 1:09:40That's not what God said. I don't know why we keep on doing I
- 1:09:44don't know why we're doing it. And now that we have these kids under
- 1:09:46us who are completely freeing themselves from the system, it's like a whole nother
- 1:09:51war going on with jobs because they feel like they're being lazy. But is
- 1:09:55it they're lazier or they know they're worth Yeah, which one is it?
- 1:09:59Because we were taught if you just put your head down, they ain't gonna
- 1:10:02pay you much, but you'll eventually, you'll eventually, And that's not how
- 1:10:05it works for everybody. Some people get that raising, that promotion, but
- 1:10:09some people, twenty years later, they still mopping the floors because somebody told
- 1:10:14them. Somebody told them that, and they believe it exactly. Somebody told
- 1:10:17them that, and they believe it. Ashley, when I tell you you've
- 1:10:20been phenomenal than you like y'all have to, I'm so happy I came and
- 1:10:27I'm so happy it didn't like rain us out like I don't care about no
- 1:10:30rainbow. Inside we podcast inside wbr C was adding like it was like an
- 1:10:34I'm not w DOLC I am just asked the podcast. I don't care what
- 1:10:39it's doing, but they the Lord didn't tell tell us to stay at home
- 1:10:44so fast. We're gonna be. We gonna be outside. We grind it.
- 1:10:47Yeah. And one thing I love about this platform is that I love
- 1:10:53do what God is doing is that you are an influence and as a creator
- 1:10:58in your space right right now as the cookie expert, all right. And
- 1:11:03I just I just love the fact that he allows this platform to see see
- 1:11:11the creative, but also see the person. And so I'm I'm appreciative of
- 1:11:16you for coming in and sharing your heart because I feel, Desirae, I
- 1:11:20feel you dropped gyms for me that I was like, dang, I gotta
- 1:11:24consider that, like you know, and this is the safe space to do
- 1:11:27that. You know, you shared, you cried, you you laughed,
- 1:11:30and I just that's the that's the space that we want to create. And
- 1:11:33so I just want to say thank you, thank you for saying I was.
- 1:11:36I'm you just don't know, like Deseirae knows that the asking part when
- 1:11:41I say just ask, it's really for me. It's for me first.
- 1:11:45The cookies were for you. First. The cookies was for satisfying need for
- 1:11:48you first, just asking it's a satisfy it's satisfied my needs first. So
- 1:11:53people don't know in the background how hard it is for me to ask.
- 1:11:57I have you on a list that I created of asking people, and I
- 1:12:00hadn't done it yet. I hadn't done it. But when you you liked
- 1:12:05you you simply liked or commented on my on my video. One day,
- 1:12:11I said this, okay, this is my shot, this is my time.
- 1:12:13Okay, let me ask her. You know what I'm saying. Let
- 1:12:14me let me just take comments now, let me take the moment now.
- 1:12:17And when you were like, oh yes, I would love too. At
- 1:12:20first, I was so appreciate that you know that you even liked my my
- 1:12:26content. You know this is the simple things. Yeah, it's the simples.
- 1:12:29And I was just so appreciative of you. But I didn't know that
- 1:12:32this came with the cookies. I ain't I didn't know that the oill came
- 1:12:36with the cookies. Like this, okay, you you you took me to
- 1:12:40another level, and I loved it. I've watched the videos. I've watched
- 1:12:44your interview you interviewed with my friend Coco TV. Yeah, I watched that
- 1:12:48and I was just like, Okay, she's friendly, but you you got
- 1:12:53that. You got that drip. You got that drip. And the reason
- 1:12:56why you will always succeeded whatever God is telling you to do is because you
- 1:13:00Ashley. She sounds like my mama. Now you at the end of the
- 1:13:05day, and I want you. I want to leave you with that.
- 1:13:08I'm gonna let you lead the people with something, but I want to leave
- 1:13:11you with You're gonna be success. You're gonna be a successful mom. Thank
- 1:13:15you. You're not always gonna be doing that by yourself. Yeah, the
- 1:13:19Man of God is going to I appreciate able to take you in all all
- 1:13:24of you and not only nurture you you as the woman, but be the
- 1:13:28father that your your children needs. Right, You're gonna be a great mom.
- 1:13:32You're gonna be a great wife. You're gonna be a great entrepreneur.
- 1:13:36And whatever God tells you to do. I even can see you doing something
- 1:13:40like this for yourself, a segment of just releasing because I don't I don't
- 1:13:45know. Because you free yourself from limitation, God is about to blow your
- 1:13:50mind with opportunity. And so I'm appreciative to be a part of your story.
- 1:13:56Thank you so much for coming on here like you're the real deal.
- 1:14:00Ass I appreciate you, really the real deal. And so if there's one
- 1:14:05thing that you could leave with your your followers, your fox and friends,
- 1:14:12what do you call them? Your cookie monsters? What do you what do
- 1:14:14you call your people? So I had I had the dope fiends because I
- 1:14:18was like playing my like wrap side into it, and then it turned into
- 1:14:21the dough boys and dough girls because we need like we gotta make, we
- 1:14:28gotta make all right, whatever it is, we gotta work on that.
- 1:14:30But then also for it to attract, you know, money, like you
- 1:14:35want to make that dough both ways. So if you're doing what you love,
- 1:14:39I believe that everything else will follow. So dough boys and girls,
- 1:14:45that's where we're at right now, do girls and dough boys. I think
- 1:14:47I'm gonna be a dope girl, Yeah, I think because I need for
- 1:14:50one, I need a cookie. Yes, And you know I had planned
- 1:14:54on it, and it's okay, just about this cookie. This cookie,
- 1:15:00y'all, this cookie that she did on Oreo, that stuff to Oreo your
- 1:15:01mouth and her she's don't talk about it anymore. Is that what you want
- 1:15:08to leave with you. So I will just say that, don't put limits
- 1:15:13on yourself. And what I mean by that is me just loving social media
- 1:15:19marketing. I've realized that my question to people now is like what's on your
- 1:15:25algorithm? Because we assume that, like my reality is your reality, we
- 1:15:29all the main character in our life. You might have a whole bunch of
- 1:15:32podcasts people on your algorithm and people making muffins, and mine might be people
- 1:15:38doing nails and people making candles. We're not all on the same algorithm.
- 1:15:43So sometimes when things don't serve you anymore, you put limits on what you
- 1:15:46can see in front of you, and you say, well, I must
- 1:15:48not have an audience for my product, or people don't want to hear what
- 1:15:51I would have to say. No, you just got to switch that algorithm
- 1:15:56up, because what you're doing is deserving of promise. This is the ego
- 1:16:00of I had this growing up. I was raised in a household where I
- 1:16:06was told like, you're superior, like we achieve the best, we're top
- 1:16:12A students where this everybody else mediocre, but you're this. But when I
- 1:16:16got older, it made it hard for me to relate to people because I
- 1:16:21always felt like I'm here and they're here, and it made it harder for
- 1:16:27me to find my community because my ego had me thinking I'm so astronomically out
- 1:16:33of their lane that they're not even own that. But everybody is a lot
- 1:16:41more similar than we give ourselves credit for. So you limiting yourself saying,
- 1:16:46well, I'm the only person who like anime and now anime mainstream you know
- 1:16:53what I'm saying, or nobody has lots, so I can't do that.
- 1:16:57All three of us got locks, you see what I'm saying. So it's
- 1:17:00like, don't give up on what it is that you want to do.
- 1:17:02You gotta trust that there are other people out of all the billions of people
- 1:17:06on this planet that are interested in what you have to give, and just
- 1:17:11go find them and allow them to come to you. Change that algorithm up,
- 1:17:15don't give up on what you're doing. You can sell a bag of
- 1:17:18booble if you know how to package it right for real, and people be
- 1:17:24like, like y'all were talking about those three views, Yeah, the Fox
- 1:17:29and Friend thing. The lady that picked me up from that station I was
- 1:17:33on ABC locally, she found that inflation segment somewhere and cross promoted it back
- 1:17:41to Fox on a national level. The only reason why I'm plugged in with
- 1:17:45Fox today is because a producer saw the small skillet locally. I still to
- 1:17:53this day have never told them I was on National News. Wow. People
- 1:17:56just think that's all connected. If they see this segment, they'll know the
- 1:18:01WBrC Fox has no clue to my knowledge about National Fox. They don't know
- 1:18:09that those were two different moments. A s'morest video that had like a thousand
- 1:18:13views. She said you should come bake that on the cooking segment, but
- 1:18:16that had nothing to do with that, because those are two different algorithms.
- 1:18:20This is a person who works on in the Wall Street Journal building finding me
- 1:18:28from an ABC segment here in Alabama, and then this is a producer in
- 1:18:35Homewood seeing a Smorest cookie skill. It's not the same, but they're just
- 1:18:40worked for the same corporation. You don't know who algorithm you in. When
- 1:18:45you post that TikTok into Instagram, Usher probably saw that. He might not
- 1:18:49want to give his identity away. Beyonce probably on her burner page, not
- 1:18:54trying to be seen, but she might have saw it. You can say
- 1:18:58usher saw it again because I got a little little podcast out asking for us
- 1:19:01for Raymond to be on podcasts? Are you my head? That would be
- 1:19:05so dope? And this is already given like tiny desk and stuff. Okay,
- 1:19:12Okay, I could really see that we were seeing, Like I love
- 1:19:16how this space is set up because it can do so much and it's big
- 1:19:21enough, but it's small enough. Yeah. The gag is is that we
- 1:19:27want to make sure that the influencer has a safe space and it's safe.
- 1:19:31It's safe, locked in, locked in for real, because I am somebody
- 1:19:36who like, if I don't feel comfortable, I can shut down. Even
- 1:19:40though I'm extroverted, I just kind of like, ah, but I feel
- 1:19:45safe and I appreciate that. So if you're watching this and you want to
- 1:19:48come on here, it is it is a true safe space for real.
- 1:19:55Like that's the best, man, that's the best compliment. That's like affirmation.
- 1:20:00And so I want to thank you, girl, Like I really see
- 1:20:04us going somewhere with this. This is we're gonna have We're gonna we don't
- 1:20:08have to have you back on here. We're gonna have to else we are.
- 1:20:11I see that. I see that, so don't think this this Ashley
- 1:20:14just situation. I might, I might try to name a cookie out of
- 1:20:17me. I'm trying. I'm trying to get plugged in. Okay, so
- 1:20:20we're gonna make sure we tag her. You can follow her on her all.
- 1:20:25Her class performs on Ashley's Famous Cookies. Y'all, she got website cookies
- 1:20:30on Delightful. Okay, just tell your girl just ass sent you over there
- 1:20:33and then she she'll get you taken care of. Okay, I got you.
- 1:20:38We love you guys, Thank you so much. Ashley again, does
- 1:20:40a ray you to go? Remember until next week. We're gonna chop it
- 1:20:45up next week. Remember life could be much more simple if you just asked,
- 1:20:50We'll see you later. Wow on all platforms. Again, I'm your
- 1:20:56girl, just until next time.
