- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to a brand new live edition
- 0:05Speaker 1: of Foul Territory. I'm Alana Rizzo in for Scott Braun.
- 0:09Speaker 1: That is Eric Kratz. That is Aj Pierzinski, who is
- 0:12Speaker 1: on the call for a game tonight, so he is
- 0:14Speaker 1: doing the show remote. We appreciate you being here.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Aj.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Don't forget guys. You can tweet us a hashtag ft
- 0:20Speaker 1: live and support our show and style Foul Territory shop
- 0:24Speaker 1: dot com. It is time to charge the mound. Let's
- 0:30Speaker 1: charging about all right, you guys. The Astros they are
- 0:34Speaker 1: back in first place, the Houston Astros the Seattle Mariners
- 0:37Speaker 1: continue to jockey for position in the Al West as
- 0:40Speaker 1: they both fight for their playoff lives. If you will,
- 0:44Speaker 1: Mariners a ten game win streak, AJ, that came to
- 0:46Speaker 1: an end yesterday. They were on a good run. But
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Astros are back in first what's your take.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, I asked, I asked you guys yesterday, if the
- 0:55Speaker 2: Mariners got a little too hot, too quit right. So
- 0:58Speaker 2: the Astro sweep the Range and pretty much end their season.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And now they get the Mariners coming into Houston, where
- 1:04Speaker 2: Houston has played really well this year. So we all
- 1:08Speaker 2: think the Astros are going to get in. We're not
- 1:09Speaker 2: sure who's going to win the division. But this was
- 1:11Speaker 2: a huge three games for the Astros to sweep the Rangers.
- 1:15Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean they're they're basically tied right there.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Seattle has one extra game to play and it's all
- 1:20Speaker 2: gonna come down to these next three days. If one
- 1:23Speaker 2: of them sweeps the other, one's in big trouble, and
- 1:25Speaker 2: whoever wins two out of three is going to put
- 1:27Speaker 2: themselves in a nice position to make the postseason and
- 1:30Speaker 2: win the division.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Eric are the Rangers cooked?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yes, they're cooked.
- 1:36Speaker 3: They're a little a little too late or a little
- 1:40Speaker 3: too late, yeah, whatever, I don't know. I was trying
- 1:42Speaker 3: to figure out what the what the saying is a
- 1:45Speaker 3: little too late?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Thank you? Thank you?
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yes, I think it should show them for next year
- 1:52Speaker 3: that a little bit of a shot of energy. I'm
- 1:54Speaker 3: not saying it has to be young guys coming up
- 1:57Speaker 3: with inexperienced but I'm saying maybe a shot of maybe
- 2:00Speaker 3: it's okay to play like with your hair on fire
- 2:04Speaker 3: a little bit, because I think that's what they've done recently,
- 2:07Speaker 3: or maybe they were winning and that's why they've had
- 2:10Speaker 3: this different fervor when they're out there, but I would
- 2:15Speaker 3: say they're cooked.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Agy at what point are we going to stop? But
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'm not saying that you did. I'm not saying that
- 2:20Speaker 1: Eric did. I'm saying we as a collective, at what
- 2:22Speaker 1: point are we going to stop? Like counting out the
- 2:25Speaker 1: Houston Astros, I mean a couple of years ago they didn't. Yeah, Well,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I was like, maybe this
- 2:30Speaker 1: isn't the year that they make a push for the postseason, right,
- 2:33Speaker 1: maybe this isn't the year that they can do it
- 2:36Speaker 1: just because of the subtractions of Kyle Tucker and the
- 2:40Speaker 1: absence of Alex Bregman and the decimation to their starting rotation.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And here they are. I mean, they've won five of
- 2:46Speaker 1: their past six games. They're only one and a half
- 2:49Speaker 1: games behind the Tigers for the number two playoff seed
- 2:51Speaker 1: now in the American League, which comes with the first round.
- 2:54Speaker 1: By So I went from they're not going to make
- 2:56Speaker 1: the postseason too, they may get a first round by
- 2:58Speaker 1: how do they do this?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Well, they have Altuve who's been a constant there. They
- 3:03Speaker 2: brought back Korea, but it's something about the chemistry and
- 3:08Speaker 2: the culture that they have in Houston. What it is,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I don't know, but the one consonant has been Jose
- 3:14Speaker 2: Altuve through all of this, so he does something. Maybe
- 3:16Speaker 2: he doesn't get enough credit as a leader, but he's
- 3:19Speaker 2: been through all of the ups and downs. And not
- 3:22Speaker 2: forget he came up when they were terrible and survived
- 3:25Speaker 2: that and now is going to go to the Hall
- 3:26Speaker 2: of Fame. Is one of the best astros of all
- 3:29Speaker 2: time and he deserves a ton of credit. But Joe a.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Spada has taken over for Dusty Baker, who took over
- 3:34Speaker 2: for Hinch, right, Dana Brown. They've been through Lunau and
- 3:38Speaker 2: I forget the guy who got fired after they won
- 3:40Speaker 2: a World Series where they brought in Dana Brown. But
- 3:42Speaker 2: it's crazy how they've done this year after year and
- 3:45Speaker 2: there's just something they figure out a way to win,
- 3:48Speaker 2: and it's amazing. It's an amazing run. And if you're
- 3:52Speaker 2: in Houston, guys, enjoy this because you might never see
- 3:54Speaker 2: a run like this ever ever again. Look at the
- 3:57Speaker 2: Atlanta Braves. For all those years, people just took it
- 3:59Speaker 2: for granted, it went away. They had another couple run
- 4:01Speaker 2: a year's run, but it hasn't been the same enjoy
- 4:04Speaker 2: this run, the Astros run if you're an Astros fan,
- 4:06Speaker 2: because it's something special. I don't know what it is.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I don't know what they do there. They seem like
- 4:10Speaker 2: they do a lot of the right things. We all
- 4:12Speaker 2: know they did some wrong things. But all they do
- 4:14Speaker 2: is win and it is a fun thing to watch.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And last night, ek they did it with Christian Javier
- 4:19Speaker 1: on the mound. He looked really good. Six innings, five hits,
- 4:22Speaker 1: two earned runs, one walk, four k's okay, eighty eight pitches,
- 4:25Speaker 1: fifty four of which were for strikes, so he was
- 4:27Speaker 1: throwing a lot of strikes in the zone. Thirty nine
- 4:29Speaker 1: swings and nine whiffs. He retired Eric ten of the
- 4:32Speaker 1: last eleven Rangers he faced. Now his era, it's not sexy.
- 4:36Speaker 1: It's about four and a half. But the point is,
- 4:38Speaker 1: as you do your final tune ups going into the postseason,
- 4:41Speaker 1: Javier looked good.
- 4:43Speaker 3: He looked good. It's only a seven start this year,
- 4:46Speaker 3: is did they think, oh, yeah, this is definitely one
- 4:50Speaker 3: of the guys that we have to have for the playoffs.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Maybe not when he's coming off of a essentially season
- 4:56Speaker 3: long injury, because he's got seven starts. Now you'd love
- 4:59Speaker 3: to have somebody with a few more starts under their belt.
- 5:02Speaker 3: But maybe he's just rounding into the pitcher that they
- 5:05Speaker 3: know he can be, and that is gonna have to
- 5:08Speaker 3: step up. You know, they wanted Spencer Ranghetti to come back.
- 5:12Speaker 3: That's not happening, and so what are you gonna get
- 5:16Speaker 3: out of them? Hopefully they can build them up so
- 5:19Speaker 3: his length is gonna be long enough that they can
- 5:23Speaker 3: kind of jump over that little bit of a blip
- 5:25Speaker 3: that they have in their bullpen, because their bullpen's a
- 5:27Speaker 3: little bit thinner without Hater in the back, without Suza
- 5:31Speaker 3: out there.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And you say, hey, I.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Start like this pushes them really far in the right direction.
- 5:40Speaker 1: If you take a look at the American League West standings, guys,
- 5:42Speaker 1: as you mentioned, Texas is cooked, right. I mean, they're
- 5:44Speaker 1: five games behind everybody else as far as that's concerned,
- 5:47Speaker 1: sitting at third place. We know the Athletics are eliminated
- 5:50Speaker 1: fourteen and a half games out and the Angels are
- 5:53Speaker 1: now eliminated officially as well mathematically done. So obviously it's
- 5:57Speaker 1: gonna come down to Houston and Seattle.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Duh.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But how much of a focus, of course, I mean,
- 6:01Speaker 1: this is a massive series starting between these two teams
- 6:04Speaker 1: tomorrow half game back. I mean two weeks ago, we
- 6:08Speaker 1: would have thought that. I mean, it was a foregone conclusion.
- 6:10Speaker 1: We were kind of complaining as a sport that, oh
- 6:13Speaker 1: it's so boring. We know all of the teams that
- 6:15Speaker 1: are getting into the postseason, this, that, and the other thing.
- 6:17Speaker 1: There's no competition. And now both the AO West and
- 6:20Speaker 1: al No West. I know that AJ said the Mets
- 6:23Speaker 1: are in and that's the thing. But this is exciting.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I mean, this is a massive series with with you know,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it could swing either way when you're only a half
- 6:32Speaker 1: game out.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys always right here, it could swing either
- 6:39Speaker 2: Well no, but I have to look at the slack,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and my slack is down here, so what I mean. Sorry,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I'm trying to make sure that we, you know, blah
- 6:47Speaker 2: blah blah blah blah and what talks over each other.
- 6:49Speaker 2: So listen, I'm not at home, Okay, So I have
- 6:51Speaker 2: stuff that I'm literally doing the show on a I
- 6:55Speaker 2: don't even know what this thing is in the visiting
- 6:57Speaker 2: booth here right because I tried to do it by
- 6:59Speaker 2: the and I was told I looked too good, so
- 7:01Speaker 2: I had to move about it darkened me. Oh, darkened
- 7:05Speaker 2: me right, because I was too bright, shining like a diamond.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But so here's yes, this this, this series is gonna
- 7:13Speaker 2: probably design the aos. And I still believe that the
- 7:16Speaker 2: playoff teams are set, just not in what order. Interesting
- 7:21Speaker 2: thing though, the Tigers they suck right now, they are
- 7:24Speaker 2: not playing well. Can the Astros or Mariners catch them
- 7:29Speaker 2: and steal the by Now that would be a story
- 7:31Speaker 2: because no one had that in their in their car.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I would not have imagined that the seating would
- 7:38Speaker 1: be a factor at this point when you were thinking.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I thought the Tigers back at you know, a month
- 7:43Speaker 1: and change ago, we're going to run away with everything.
- 7:45Speaker 1: We've talked about how there's no thirty teams that really
- 7:47Speaker 1: as a clear cut favorite as to who's gonna win
- 7:49Speaker 1: this whole dang thing. But I thought the Tigers were
- 7:52Speaker 1: the most complete team this year, kind of wire to wire.
- 7:55Speaker 1: What has been since you brought it up, AJ, What
- 7:57Speaker 1: do you think has been the biggest thing in terms
- 7:58Speaker 1: of not their collapse that's not fair, obviously they're getting
- 8:01Speaker 1: into the postseason, but what have been their most recent struggles?
- 8:04Speaker 1: What have you noticed by watching that club?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Their pitching, hasn't been as great other than school has
- 8:10Speaker 2: been School has been good. He hasn't been as amazing
- 8:13Speaker 2: as he was the first half. Their pitching hasn't been
- 8:15Speaker 2: as good, their bullpen hasn't been as good, and they
- 8:16Speaker 2: haven't I mean, it's kind of been a whole thing.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Hobby Bayaz has kind of gone back down to reality
- 8:21Speaker 2: from the first half. Uh, and they're not scoring as
- 8:23Speaker 2: many runs. It's just kind of been you know what
- 8:25Speaker 2: it seems like to me, It seems like they're knew
- 8:28Speaker 2: they were gonna win the division, so they put it
- 8:29Speaker 2: in cruise control, and now they got to figure out
- 8:33Speaker 2: a way to turn it back on before the playoffs
- 8:34Speaker 2: start because they've been in first place pretty much the
- 8:36Speaker 2: whole year. They knew they were gonna win the division,
- 8:38Speaker 2: and they just it's kind of like the Dodgers. The
- 8:41Speaker 2: Dodgers just cruise, Cruise, Cruise. Let's we get to the
- 8:44Speaker 2: postseason and we'll turn it on. The Dodgers have that pedigree.
- 8:46Speaker 2: The Tigers don't. Tiger's too young, Eric young control.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Can you flip a switch in this sport? Because AJ
- 8:54Speaker 1: was saying, like, you know, cruise control that type of thing.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think it's so hard to flip a switch in baseball.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I think it's hard to flip the switch in baseball
- 9:02Speaker 3: when you're not playing every day. When you're a guy
- 9:05Speaker 3: that plays every day, you start getting into that rhythm
- 9:07Speaker 3: and routine and then playoffs start and you're just like, yep,
- 9:11Speaker 3: i'll I'll bump it up. It's never about effort, like
- 9:14Speaker 3: guys always give effort. But when you're a platoon guy,
- 9:17Speaker 3: and I think the Tigers do a lot of platoon
- 9:20Speaker 3: pinch hit matchups, that stuff has to go really well.
- 9:25Speaker 3: And if you're if you're just off a tick in
- 9:29Speaker 3: those situations, you're gonna get dominated because you're coming off
- 9:32Speaker 3: the bench in the sixth, seventh, eighth inning expecting Carry Carpenter,
- 9:38Speaker 3: Matt Verling, somebody who hasn't been in the game to
- 9:41Speaker 3: come up with a big hit. And that's tough to
- 9:44Speaker 3: do on a consistent basis when you're not out there
- 9:49Speaker 3: in you know, diamond cutting situations, in times when like
- 9:54Speaker 3: it's pressure and you know, I gotta get this job done.
- 9:58Speaker 3: They've been up by eight to ten games the entire season,
- 10:01Speaker 3: so they've been kind of just in those situations, maybe
- 10:05Speaker 3: giving guys opportunities to say, okay.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's not all platoons split.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Maybe aj Perzinski's giving some lefties some lefty lefty at bats,
- 10:13Speaker 3: But these last week, this last week and a half,
- 10:17Speaker 3: it's good for these guys to be able to be Hey, whoa, whoa.
- 10:20Speaker 3: We got to make sure the Mariners and the Astros
- 10:22Speaker 3: don't catch us. But the biggest thing for the Tigers
- 10:26Speaker 3: is tonight's start. If Scooble gets through it healthy, I
- 10:30Speaker 3: don't know how many innings they wanted to throw, that
- 10:33Speaker 3: will dictate more than any platoon, any hot or cold lineup.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Scooble Tonight will be must see TV for everybody in
- 10:42Speaker 3: Detroit if they want to do what people thought a
- 10:45Speaker 3: month ago they could do and win a World Series.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Crats.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna steal a line right from the top here
- 10:52Speaker 4: about Meyundi's a cut for every butt. I took a
- 10:56Speaker 4: line that I feel like you would enjoy, But then
- 10:59Speaker 4: you stole my thunder with show and tell.
- 11:01Speaker 3: What do you have there besides a huge Baduka dunk?
- 11:06Speaker 3: This is my pair of Meundies that I got. I'm
- 11:09Speaker 3: not going to show you the other pair right now
- 11:11Speaker 3: because I got them on. But it doesn't even feel
- 11:13Speaker 3: like you have them on super soft, flexible and yet
- 11:18Speaker 3: holding everything together.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I love the twenty different styles, one hundred different colors
- 11:22Speaker 4: and prints, and the micro modal fabric is what you're
- 11:27Speaker 4: talking about. Breathable, stretchy, unbelievably cozy and right now. As
- 11:32Speaker 4: a listener of FT, you can get cozy and spooky
- 11:34Speaker 4: for less with deals up to fifty percent off at
- 11:37Speaker 4: me undies dot com. Slash foul and enter promo code foul.
- 11:41Speaker 4: That's me undies dot com slash foul, promo code foul
- 11:44Speaker 4: for up to fifty percent off me undies comfort. That's
- 11:48Speaker 4: made for fall.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Don't look now, but here come the mighty Dodgers as
- 11:52Speaker 1: far as their starting staff is concerned. And it has
- 11:54Speaker 1: nothing to do with me being a Homer. It is fact. Okay,
- 11:57Speaker 1: look at the starting staff in terms of eras and
- 12:00Speaker 1: August First, This from underdog MLB Snell lights out yesterday
- 12:04Speaker 1: seven innings looked great. Yamamoto has been good all season long.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Glass now went healthy. Amazing she and making a case Kersh.
- 12:09Speaker 1: There's news about Kersh by the way. Today, I don't know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: we'll see Otani. Otani has the worst era. I understand
- 12:15Speaker 1: he's not pitching as much as the rest of them. Whatever,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Dodger's rotation leads the majors in era during the span.
- 12:21Speaker 1: You guys, this is a bullpen that's been roughed up.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Not withstand they're not the only ones, I get that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: But the starting staff is healthy and they're back together
- 12:31Speaker 1: at the right time.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Eric, It's like they planned it to be this way.
- 12:36Speaker 3: It's like they planned for somehow we're going to get
- 12:39Speaker 3: through one hundred and sixty two games and some of
- 12:41Speaker 3: these guys are going to go down, but somehow we
- 12:43Speaker 3: got twenty starts out of all of them, and now
- 12:45Speaker 3: they're somehow all magically healthy. This is what makes the
- 12:49Speaker 3: Dodgers ridiculous. During that time, they were losing a lot
- 12:53Speaker 3: of games, but Max Mounsey came back, and now the
- 12:56Speaker 3: offense picked it back up.
- 12:58Speaker 2: This team is.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Hitting them all cylinders right now, and to have that
- 13:02Speaker 3: in their rotation, they could be back to back World
- 13:04Speaker 3: Series champs and do it two different ways with their
- 13:07Speaker 3: pitching staff.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Eric is right.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Aj.
- 13:11Speaker 1: They have a two game lead in the division over
- 13:13Speaker 1: the Padres and a five game lead in the Wild Card.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Are they back to back this year?
- 13:19Speaker 2: The number one of my Power Rankings, Alona. They have
- 13:22Speaker 2: been all year, and we all know how much I
- 13:24Speaker 2: love Power Rankings. Number one foam finger for AJ.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You guys both played in this game. When it was
- 13:46Speaker 1: okay for the starters to go deep into ball games,
- 13:49Speaker 1: it was okay for the starters to face the order
- 13:51Speaker 1: of the third time through. Blake Snell kind of did
- 13:53Speaker 1: that last night. He said, you know what, you are
- 13:56Speaker 1: not coming to get me out. Dave Roberts was on
- 13:58Speaker 1: his way. Alex Vessia was halfway to theud out of
- 14:00Speaker 1: the bullpen. Blake Snell said, not today, dog, not today.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Alex Vessio went back into the bullpen. Dave was like,
- 14:06Speaker 1: all right, I'll trust you, and he did it. And
- 14:08Speaker 1: the emotion guys from Snell, So that says two things
- 14:11Speaker 1: to me. Blake Snell is healthy, Blake Snell is a gamer,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and Dave trusted in his guy that goes a long way,
- 14:18Speaker 1: does it not?
- 14:18Speaker 2: Aj Uh. Yeah, it's amazing because normally the Dodgers are
- 14:24Speaker 2: five innings, just get out, there's the script. But to
- 14:26Speaker 2: see him allow guys to go deep, and they've been
- 14:28Speaker 2: doing this a little bit more this year, it's kind
- 14:30Speaker 2: of awesome. They're letting their guys go. Their bullpen has
- 14:33Speaker 2: been beat up. But don't worry about them when they
- 14:34Speaker 2: put Shohey in the bullpen. Oh wait, no, they can't.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I don't want no. Wait one, well, but I don't listen.
- 14:45Speaker 2: The Dodgers are going to be fine. That's again why
- 14:47Speaker 2: they're still number one in my power ranking. That's it.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I said it yesterday. I said yesterday. Blake Snell. He
- 14:54Speaker 3: knows exactly what he's able to do when he's able
- 14:57Speaker 3: to do it, and he's more athletic on the mound
- 15:01Speaker 3: than guys. Give him, give him respect for Like, this
- 15:05Speaker 3: guy's thrown in the postseason and he's for his career.
- 15:09Speaker 3: He's been historically better the third time through. I said
- 15:13Speaker 3: it yesterday. I love that. I saw it last night.
- 15:15Speaker 3: It shows that Doc Roberts is watching the show. But
- 15:18Speaker 3: this is what you want out of your this is
- 15:21Speaker 3: what you want out of your elite pittures. And they
- 15:24Speaker 3: have three elite pictures these guys. Like in a normal
- 15:28Speaker 3: when AJ and I were coming up through the big leagues,
- 15:31Speaker 3: if you had a Blake, Snow, Yamamoto and Glass now
- 15:35Speaker 3: at the top of your rotation. And Kershaw is getting older,
- 15:37Speaker 3: so it's a little bit different. But those three guys
- 15:40Speaker 3: would piggyback off each other in the sense that one
- 15:43Speaker 3: dude goes six, the next dude's gonna be like, hey, Yamamoto,
- 15:47Speaker 3: check it out, I'm going seven, and then glass Now
- 15:50Speaker 3: will be like, hey, Blake, check it out, I'm going eight. Now.
- 15:53Speaker 3: It's like, well, I don't know if we're gonna let
- 15:56Speaker 3: these guys. I don't think the players have changed. It's
- 15:59Speaker 3: kind of like people who complain about kids who are
- 16:01Speaker 3: punks now. I don't think the kids have changed. We
- 16:04Speaker 3: were all punks at one time. It's the parents who
- 16:06Speaker 3: have changed. So in baseball, it's the coaches, it's the
- 16:08Speaker 3: front offices who have changed. These guys are all gamers.
- 16:11Speaker 3: All three of those dudes at the top, I would say,
- 16:14Speaker 3: are gamers. And I think this year they're gonna have
- 16:17Speaker 3: to let him eat because exactly what I.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Was gonna ask you, Eric, Are they gonna let them
- 16:22Speaker 1: eat because of the usage to the bullpen? And if
- 16:25Speaker 1: Blake Snell is out there shoving, or if it's glass Now,
- 16:27Speaker 1: or if it's Yama or if it's whoever, are they
- 16:30Speaker 1: go If he's having that much effectiveness? Do they in
- 16:33Speaker 1: the postseason, say nope, you can't face the order the
- 16:36Speaker 1: third time, three you're out of here. Or do they
- 16:38Speaker 1: let him go?
- 16:39Speaker 3: What was the score last night when Blake Snell said,
- 16:42Speaker 3: I want to stay in.
- 16:43Speaker 1: The game three nothing.
- 16:46Speaker 3: If it's if it's one nothing in the playoffs, no,
- 16:50Speaker 3: Dave Roberts does not let him, does not let him go.
- 16:53Speaker 3: If it's two nothing, there's nobody on three nothing. There's
- 16:57Speaker 3: nobody on I bet he lets them get one runner on.
- 17:00Speaker 3: That's the difference is they're never going to allow that
- 17:03Speaker 3: starting pitcher to put them in a situation where it's
- 17:06Speaker 3: tied or losing in the postseason or yeah, if he's
- 17:10Speaker 3: out there. But to me right now, those three guys
- 17:13Speaker 3: the way they're pitching. You saw the stats of their
- 17:16Speaker 3: of their era since August, like everybody but showed but
- 17:21Speaker 3: Shohey is under a three and a half er. Who
- 17:24Speaker 3: in the bullpen can match that? So it's like, is
- 17:27Speaker 3: a ninety percent of Blake Snell better right now than
- 17:31Speaker 3: one hundred percent of who they're going to bring in
- 17:34Speaker 3: VESSI A, you know, I think he needs a little
- 17:36Speaker 3: bit of a little bit of a grace period. He's
- 17:38Speaker 3: coming off the il he was one of their best
- 17:41Speaker 3: pitchers until they broke him because he pitched too much.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Is it Blake Trinan, is it Tanner Scott? Right now,
- 17:47Speaker 3: they're not pitching better than ninety percent Blake Snell. And
- 17:50Speaker 3: if you think at the end of the game Blake
- 17:52Speaker 3: Snell is ninety percent, you keep them in there.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Well, Vesia came in, had a clean inning, which was nice.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But I have to be honest with you. When Tanner
- 18:00Speaker 1: Scott came in in the ninth, you guys, he had
- 18:01Speaker 1: a five to nothing cushion and I was still nervous
- 18:04Speaker 1: And I feel badly saying that, but just based on
- 18:07Speaker 1: what he's done this season, at what point, you guys,
- 18:11Speaker 1: do you have enough of a resume, enough black type
- 18:14Speaker 1: on the back of your card, or just enough experience,
- 18:16Speaker 1: enough service time in this game to be able to
- 18:19Speaker 1: do what Blake Snell did. I know he has two
- 18:20Speaker 1: say Young Awards, but at what point do you have
- 18:23Speaker 1: enough to say I'm staying in go back to the dugout.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I think it would be a hard time telling Nolan
- 18:31Speaker 3: McLain when he's pitching. If Nolan McClain was pitching the
- 18:34Speaker 3: exact same as Blake Snell. I think Mendy would be
- 18:37Speaker 3: able to read the situation and go, you know what,
- 18:40Speaker 3: I think you're right. I'm gonna give you this chance.
- 18:42Speaker 3: This is what the regular season is for for playoff teams.
- 18:47Speaker 3: But you have to be a manager that's willing to
- 18:49Speaker 3: lose your job because you do something like that. And
- 18:52Speaker 3: I don't think it's necessarily as much dirt in your
- 18:55Speaker 3: cleats as it is trust from your manager. And sometimes
- 18:59Speaker 3: that can be built in three or four starts. Rarely, rarely,
- 19:05Speaker 3: but I think it's you know, it's not like, oh,
- 19:07Speaker 3: this guy's a ten year vet. No, you got to
- 19:09Speaker 3: be able to read it in the situation because if
- 19:11Speaker 3: a pitch isn't working, if a pitcher isn't throwing well,
- 19:15Speaker 3: and you're the manager, it's your job to say we're
- 19:19Speaker 3: taking we're taking you out. You've seen Boonie Boonie go
- 19:22Speaker 3: out to the mound how many times this year with
- 19:24Speaker 3: Max Fried on the mound, with Carlos Rodin on the mound,
- 19:28Speaker 3: and they've convinced them to stay in. They've been wrong
- 19:32Speaker 3: and they've also been right. So that's how that's how
- 19:35Speaker 3: you earn that trust is you do what Blake Snell
- 19:38Speaker 3: did last night. Next time, Dave Roberts is like, I
- 19:40Speaker 3: don't even need to go out to the mound. I
- 19:42Speaker 3: don't even need to talk to him about this.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Hey, if you're a card collector or you're looking to collect, buy, sell, trade,
- 19:50Speaker 4: Arena clubs the spot. I'm going to tell you why.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Because the old process AJA was very clunky. By a box,
- 19:57Speaker 4: rip the pack, tons of comments, send it in for grading,
- 20:00Speaker 4: and then finally you get everything back. This is weeks
- 20:02Speaker 4: and weeks and you can start to try and sell
- 20:05Speaker 4: the card. We have eliminated that with Arena club where
- 20:08Speaker 4: they have I act like I'm part of it, but
- 20:10Speaker 4: in really one step.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Arena's your one stop shop for everything. You get a card,
- 20:14Speaker 2: you open a slap pack, the card is there, it's graded,
- 20:17Speaker 2: it spins around. Cooley shows you three D the front,
- 20:20Speaker 2: the back, you can look at the corners, you can
- 20:22Speaker 2: look at everything, and then you get a decision. Do
- 20:24Speaker 2: I want to keep it? Do I want to sell it?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Do I want to trade? It? Gives you an instant offer.
- 20:28Speaker 2: You can buy it back and re rip another slap
- 20:30Speaker 2: pack and try for someone else, or you can keep
- 20:32Speaker 2: it and hope the value goes up and sell it
- 20:34Speaker 2: a later day. It is truly the best spot to
- 20:36Speaker 2: get cards.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Twenty percent off your first slab pack or card purchase
- 20:40Speaker 4: can be had right now at arenaclub dot com. Slash
- 20:42Speaker 4: foul and use code foul.
- 20:46Speaker 1: All right, welcome back. The Mets drew three million fans
- 20:49Speaker 1: to Cityfield this season, guys, the first time since the
- 20:51Speaker 1: ballpark opened in two thousand and nine. It represented a
- 20:55Speaker 1: thirty eight percent overall increase in attendance from last season.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Just a bitch at the time, up with their lungs
- 21:00Speaker 1: because the Mets have imploded and they're hanging on for
- 21:05Speaker 1: dear life. Good fans, Good fans. I mean you love
- 21:09Speaker 1: to see it. I mean baseball's not dying, Baseball is
- 21:12Speaker 1: only growing in popularity. But you love to see it.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I wish there was a better product for them on
- 21:17Speaker 1: the field.
- 21:18Speaker 2: AJ one Sodo effect one so so did this. I
- 21:23Speaker 2: mean one Soto bringing back Manaya, bringing back Alonzo. It
- 21:27Speaker 2: just shows you if you spend money, people come out
- 21:30Speaker 2: and watch your team if they think you're going to
- 21:31Speaker 2: be good. So this should be a lesson to other owners. Unfortunately,
- 21:35Speaker 2: for fans, they're going to complain and wine. Oh Man,
- 21:38Speaker 2: ticket prices are going up because Juan Soto's here, because
- 21:41Speaker 2: we paid so much for Manaya. There's no direct correlation.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I got. I got reamed out by a fan the
- 21:48Speaker 3: other day. I was at Chicky and Pete's and he
- 21:49Speaker 3: was like, why do Phillies ticket prices go up the
- 21:52Speaker 3: last two years? And I was like, because the stadium
- 21:56Speaker 3: is packed, so city field is packed. Ticket prices are
- 21:59Speaker 3: going to go up because there's a thing called supply
- 22:01Speaker 3: and demand. So fans, good job coming out, But you
- 22:05Speaker 3: just made your season ticket prices go.
- 22:08Speaker 2: For next year?
- 22:10Speaker 1: What's Chicky and Pete?
- 22:12Speaker 3: What's Chicky and Pete crabby for eyes? If you don't know,
- 22:16Speaker 3: find out.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Next time you're in Philly or Vegas or they're up
- 22:23Speaker 3: and down the East Coast.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Now, can I live on the East coast? Can you
- 22:27Speaker 1: door dash that?
- 22:27Speaker 4: To me?
- 22:28Speaker 1: Is that a possibility?
- 22:29Speaker 2: That might be an up charge?
- 22:34Speaker 1: We're about six weeks away from Halloween, not even maybe
- 22:37Speaker 1: five weeks. But there are some teams guys that are
- 22:39Speaker 1: already dead dead is door nail in the graveyard if
- 22:43Speaker 1: you will? Some teams have already been eliminated. We'll start
- 22:45Speaker 1: with the Rockies. They set a franchise record for losses
- 22:48Speaker 1: one hundred and ten losses amid a seventh consecutive losing season.
- 22:51Speaker 1: We talk about it a lot, right, it's the ownership
- 22:53Speaker 1: groups that don't want to spend money. It's a beautiful
- 22:56Speaker 1: bar park, it's a tremendous city to go to a
- 22:58Speaker 1: game in. They have a lot of young players, which
- 23:02Speaker 1: producer Lady was talking about earlier, a lot of young players,
- 23:04Speaker 1: but they aren't necessarily a pierzinski good players. Is that fair? No?
- 23:10Speaker 2: They yeah, I mean they have one hundred and eleven losses.
- 23:12Speaker 2: It's they had a chance to catch the White Sox,
- 23:14Speaker 2: but they got a little hot, so they're not going
- 23:16Speaker 2: to probably do that. But yeah, I mean they have
- 23:19Speaker 2: a lot of good young I mean they have a
- 23:21Speaker 2: lot of sorry, they have a lot of young players.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Good that's gonna be seen down the road. But they
- 23:26Speaker 2: still haven't figured out how to pitch in Colorado. They
- 23:28Speaker 2: still haven't figured out how to win in Colorado. And
- 23:30Speaker 2: the owners back there going, oh, we invented blue Moon.
- 23:33Speaker 2: We don't need to do anything else. We just have
- 23:35Speaker 2: a million two and a half million fans show up
- 23:37Speaker 2: to the park every day and watch the other team
- 23:40Speaker 2: bash homers against our young kids, and when they if
- 23:42Speaker 2: they do have anyone good, we trade them away anyways.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, I don't know what do you
- 23:47Speaker 2: say about the Rockies other than yeah, they have you
- 23:49Speaker 2: know what, Hunter Goodman. He's a good player, He's a
- 23:51Speaker 2: good young player.
- 23:53Speaker 1: They just they just don't hold onto guys. They get
- 23:56Speaker 1: rid of their their superstar players. It is I mean,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to use the excuse said it is
- 24:00Speaker 1: difficult to pitch there, but they just to me they
- 24:02Speaker 1: don't have an emphasis on winning and if it's a possibility,
- 24:05Speaker 1: they're loyal to a fault. They rarely go outside of
- 24:08Speaker 1: the organization for anything and bring any sort of new
- 24:11Speaker 1: perspective of the other twenty nine teams in. And I
- 24:14Speaker 1: can appreciate loyalty to a certain extent, but it's almost
- 24:17Speaker 1: the same definition of insanity. Yeah, I mean, it's a
- 24:22Speaker 1: tough situation for this team. Rockies number two prospect Charlie
- 24:25Speaker 1: Condon projected today you next season third overall pick in
- 24:28Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four draft, made it up to double
- 24:30Speaker 1: a the season, sixty grade power, third rank first base
- 24:33Speaker 1: prospect in baseball. I mean whatever, all right, the Pirates.
- 24:37Speaker 1: The Pirates, It wasn't just Derek Shelton obviously, who lost
- 24:41Speaker 1: his job in the middle of the season. They still
- 24:43Speaker 1: have Paul Schiens, AJ and e K. But they don't
- 24:47Speaker 1: have much around.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Him because you have to build around him. You have
- 24:52Speaker 2: to build.
- 24:52Speaker 3: You can't just say, oh, you know what, we'll take
- 24:54Speaker 3: this guy in a draft. Look who we produced, Look
- 24:58Speaker 3: who we produced out of our minor league. Like they're
- 25:02Speaker 3: not able to promote and from within and get enough
- 25:08Speaker 3: value out of the guys just in their minor league
- 25:11Speaker 3: system to be able to be a playoff team. What
- 25:14Speaker 3: Andrew McCutcheon and Pedro Alvarez and Garrett Cole and all
- 25:19Speaker 3: these guy Garrett Jones, Neil Walker, the guys that were
- 25:23Speaker 3: from the minor league system that came up in twenty
- 25:27Speaker 3: ten twenty eleven to make that run for the Pirates
- 25:30Speaker 3: were supplemented by guys in free agency. Now, did they
- 25:36Speaker 3: spend you know, did they spend one hundred million dollars
- 25:38Speaker 3: in free agency? No, absolutely not, Bob Nutting does not
- 25:41Speaker 3: allow that. But they have to supplement around them. They
- 25:45Speaker 3: went and got Russell Martin, they went and got AJ Burnett,
- 25:49Speaker 3: They went and picked up Justin Ornau at the trade deadline.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Even though he wasn't like a big, huge piece of
- 25:54Speaker 3: that team, he was one of the pieces. They have
- 25:58Speaker 3: such an amazing core, different from what the Rockies. The Rockies,
- 26:01Speaker 3: I think, just really don't care about like anything other
- 26:05Speaker 3: than this is the Rocky way and we're gonna do
- 26:07Speaker 3: it and nobody get in our way, and it just
- 26:09Speaker 3: is not great. The Pirates, they have a pitching cords
- 26:13Speaker 3: that could be all home grown. They could potentially in
- 26:17Speaker 3: a year and a half have five guys in their
- 26:19Speaker 3: starting rotation that are homegrown that I would consider all
- 26:22Speaker 3: above average big league pitchers. You have to supplement them.
- 26:26Speaker 3: You have to do something, maybe trade one of them,
- 26:29Speaker 3: to be able to get a big league player right now.
- 26:33Speaker 3: And they just don't do it because those players cost
- 26:36Speaker 3: too much. So it's Bob Nutting getting in the way
- 26:39Speaker 3: a j How.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Do we get O'Neil Cruz, who can hit the ball
- 26:42Speaker 1: a mile and a half, how do we get him
- 26:44Speaker 1: to stop striking out?
- 26:47Speaker 2: You don't because straightcouts don't matter. Strakeouts don't matter.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It's expectation. It's expectation. I know that Shelton had higher
- 27:01Speaker 3: expectation of.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Cruse.
- 27:04Speaker 3: They wanted him to they wanted him to not strike
- 27:08Speaker 3: out as much. But if an expectation doesn't meet reality,
- 27:13Speaker 3: the player's never going to change. That is like one
- 27:16Speaker 3: of the best avatar as Andrew McCutcheon called him players
- 27:21Speaker 3: in the league. He called him an avatar, like he
- 27:23Speaker 3: is a built player and for him not to unlock it,
- 27:28Speaker 3: in my opinion, is the expectation of the organization and
- 27:32Speaker 3: also the player. The player has to be wanting to
- 27:35Speaker 3: be like, hey, you know what, I'm not going to
- 27:36Speaker 3: make ten airs in center field even though I'm learning
- 27:38Speaker 3: the position. I'm not going to strike out as much.
- 27:41Speaker 3: But if an expectation doesn't meet reality for this organization,
- 27:45Speaker 3: then you won't get the most out of him. I
- 27:48Speaker 3: think there's a lot of teams that would drool over
- 27:50Speaker 3: having O'Neil Cruz, and.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I think he would probably succeed somewhere else.
- 27:55Speaker 1: And he'll probably go someplace else because they don't keep
- 27:58Speaker 1: superstars around a long time. AJ If you're looking at
- 28:02Speaker 1: the Nationals in search of a new GM, it seems
- 28:05Speaker 1: like they've kind of been retooling, rebuilding. Are they selling
- 28:09Speaker 1: are they not? They end up getting rid of Mike Rizzo.
- 28:12Speaker 1: They have an interim manager right now. I mean, there
- 28:14Speaker 1: seems to be a lot of chaos at the top
- 28:17Speaker 1: to even figure out what's going on on the field.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Also, they were supposed to be sold and they haven't
- 28:23Speaker 2: been sold yet, so that's another you're going to add
- 28:25Speaker 2: that to the list of things. Also. But for the Nationals,
- 28:29Speaker 2: I mean, what's their core going to be? Is it
- 28:30Speaker 2: James what is it c j Abrams? Is it Dylan Cruz?
- 28:33Speaker 2: What are they going to be? As at kayber Ruiz,
- 28:35Speaker 2: who's there? Who's their their core going forward? And then
- 28:38Speaker 2: pitching wise, I mean they have to figure out the
- 28:40Speaker 2: pitching SiGe. Is their pitching hasn't been Mackenzie Gore, is
- 28:43Speaker 2: it Brad Lord? Who's who's on their pitching SIGs? Remember
- 28:46Speaker 2: when they won not that long ago, twenty nineteen, they
- 28:48Speaker 2: brought Intureser, they brought in Corbin, they brought in Jason Worth,
- 28:52Speaker 2: they brought in you know, Wilson Ramos. Yes, Mon Soda
- 28:55Speaker 2: was from the organization. But they also supplemented, they traded
- 28:58Speaker 2: for a trade turner. They supplemented their their positions with
- 29:03Speaker 2: money and with making the right trade. So who's the
- 29:06Speaker 2: person that's going to make those decisions because the Nets
- 29:09Speaker 2: when they win, they had to spend money. They haven't
- 29:11Speaker 2: done that recently. They also helped that they had Strasbourg
- 29:14Speaker 2: who was the one to one and he worked out
- 29:16Speaker 2: for that one year. So I don't know the Nats,
- 29:18Speaker 2: they got a lot to figure out. So the most
- 29:20Speaker 2: important thing is are they selling the team and who's
- 29:22Speaker 2: going to be in charge of baseball ops on a
- 29:24Speaker 2: day to day basis?
- 29:26Speaker 1: Is that something you see happening within the next couple
- 29:29Speaker 1: of years, or I mean is this I mean, what
- 29:32Speaker 1: are we looking at here? Before the Gnats return to
- 29:34Speaker 1: any sort of decent conversation.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Who owns a team? Figure it out? Figure out who
- 29:41Speaker 2: owned they're gonna do the learners are going to keep
- 29:43Speaker 2: the team, then great, but find a GM and or
- 29:46Speaker 2: president of baseball offs and knows what they're doing and
- 29:48Speaker 2: get him in there and give them a year or
- 29:49Speaker 2: two to figure out what they have and go from there.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Eric, I think this is the team that bothers me
- 29:55Speaker 1: the most that I'm talking about the Angels, Like, this
- 29:58Speaker 1: is a team that hasn't gone to the postseason? What
- 30:00Speaker 1: in eleven years? It's been eleven seasons, the longest drout
- 30:04Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball, the third longest route in major
- 30:07Speaker 1: North American sports. They had some unbelievable talent. I understand
- 30:11Speaker 1: Arty Moreno does not put money in pitching. He loves
- 30:14Speaker 1: the sluggers. He wants to pay the sluggers. You can't
- 30:16Speaker 1: really blame Mike. I mean you can't say, oh, poor
- 30:19Speaker 1: Mike drout. He chose to go back there, he chose
- 30:21Speaker 1: to stay there. But Sam Blum has absolutely torched this team.
- 30:25Speaker 1: He writes for The Athletic on the Angels. I mean,
- 30:29Speaker 1: what do you do? They're not going to sell, right,
- 30:30Speaker 1: We discussed that earlier this week. I mean, does this
- 30:33Speaker 1: team ever get back to some sort of relevancy.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yes, I mean because they have good young talent. Out
- 30:44Speaker 3: of everybody on this list. They do have money, like
- 30:48Speaker 3: they have spent money. Have they spent it correctly?
- 30:52Speaker 2: Not really.
- 30:54Speaker 3: I think peramin Asian has done what he is able
- 30:58Speaker 3: to do. I think he he told Arty Moreno, hey,
- 31:02Speaker 3: we need some slug in our lineup. So they went
- 31:05Speaker 3: out and got some slug You know, it may have
- 31:07Speaker 3: kind of hamstrung their roster construction a little bit, but
- 31:11Speaker 3: if you have to take away what Arty Moreno gets
- 31:14Speaker 3: in a way, then I have to say this organization,
- 31:17Speaker 3: out of all the others that we've talked about, has
- 31:20Speaker 3: one of the best chances, only because I still truly
- 31:24Speaker 3: believe in Mike Trout, but I also believe in some
- 31:26Speaker 3: of the young guys that they have up there. I
- 31:29Speaker 3: think Christian Moore is still learning at the big league level.
- 31:33Speaker 3: I think his skill set is he will be an
- 31:36Speaker 3: above average second basement in the big leagues.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I think Neto is a.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Really good shortstop, and clearly from what I've heard of
- 31:44Speaker 3: guys there, he is a team leader.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Shanawell.
- 31:48Speaker 3: He's gonna not give you as much power at first
- 31:50Speaker 3: base as other teams, but he puts together a professional
- 31:53Speaker 3: at bat. And I love Logan o'happy friend of the show,
- 31:56Speaker 3: and I think he's gonna have just continue to learn.
- 31:58Speaker 3: You're watching a team that probably has guys that should
- 32:01Speaker 3: have been getting triple A at bats, but you're watching
- 32:04Speaker 3: them in the big leagues. So I think out of
- 32:06Speaker 3: all these teams we mentioned so far, I think they
- 32:08Speaker 3: could be the closest because I also think perryman Asian
- 32:12Speaker 3: is a really good GM that's not afraid to say
- 32:15Speaker 3: I don't need five years. I want my two or
- 32:18Speaker 3: three years. And I get what Ardie Moreno's not gonna
- 32:21Speaker 3: allow me to do. I'm still going to find a
- 32:24Speaker 3: way to get guys, good guys in there, and that
- 32:28Speaker 3: takes a two or three year period.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Byron Buckston, guys is five hundred thousand dollars richer after
- 32:33Speaker 1: grounding into a fielder's choice in the fifth shit, I
- 32:36Speaker 1: could have done that. He just made his five hundred
- 32:38Speaker 1: second plate appearance, which triggered a PAIDA is thirty one
- 32:41Speaker 1: plate appearances away from another five hundred k. Good for him.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I love seeing Byron bucks and get these incentives because
- 32:46Speaker 1: one of the biggest things with him is just being
- 32:48Speaker 1: able to stay, stay healthy and stay on the field.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Did you guys have incentive laden contracts in your day too,
- 32:54Speaker 1: Like if you reached a certain amount of Okay, so
- 32:57Speaker 1: I'm talking to aj Eric whatever, if you're your sister
- 33:00Speaker 1: out of you know, innings caught or you know RBI
- 33:04Speaker 1: or whatever. I mean, take me through some of your
- 33:06Speaker 1: contract negotiation situations.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Aj I never wanted incentives. I just wanted the money upfront,
- 33:12Speaker 2: so I didn't I tried to stay away from incentives.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I just wanted the money up front. I'm like, I'm
- 33:17Speaker 2: gonna play one hundred and twenty of one hundred and
- 33:18Speaker 2: forty games and go from there. But one year I
- 33:21Speaker 2: did have them was twenty fifteen at the Braves, and
- 33:23Speaker 2: I started hitting them and they came to me and said, yeah,
- 33:25Speaker 2: we're not going to play you in September because you've
- 33:27Speaker 2: already started to hit. And then the other catcher what
- 33:30Speaker 2: didn't do so good? So like, you know what, We're
- 33:33Speaker 2: gonna have to play you after all. So I started
- 33:34Speaker 2: checking some of the bigger ones off.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Now were they in attention when they made you, like
- 33:39Speaker 1: when they needed you again?
- 33:41Speaker 4: Oh?
- 33:41Speaker 2: Ok they didn't have anybody else. Okay, not at all.
- 33:44Speaker 2: They got at all. We were terrible.
- 33:46Speaker 3: They got hamstrung by it. And I did have incentives.
- 33:49Speaker 3: One time I signed a minor league contract, got traded
- 33:51Speaker 3: over to the Brewers, and the Brewers were like, what
- 33:54Speaker 3: about these incentives the Yankees put in there. I mean,
- 33:57Speaker 3: my agent put in this like crazy, like if he
- 34:00Speaker 3: gets fifty at bats in the big leagues, he gets
- 34:02Speaker 3: twenty five thousand. If he gets if he gets one
- 34:05Speaker 3: hundred at bats in the big leagues, another twenty five thousand.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I made it all the way to two hundred at
- 34:10Speaker 3: bats and two hundred played appearances in the big leagues,
- 34:12Speaker 3: and I'll never forget looking up and I saw on
- 34:15Speaker 3: the board it said two hundred and one plate appearances
- 34:18Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, I got it to cash.
- 34:22Speaker 2: So that's awesome.
- 34:23Speaker 1: You got a load. I think I'm pretty sure Lucas
- 34:25Speaker 1: Giolito hid an incentive yesterday too by pitching four innings.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I think he activated his option. It was like a
- 34:32Speaker 1: mutual option that was activated for him and the Red
- 34:35Speaker 1: Socks for next year, like nineteen million or something like that.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's awesome. And Walker Bueler, prior to
- 34:40Speaker 1: him getting defayed by the Socks and picked up by
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Phillies, was like making five hundred thousand every certain
- 34:46Speaker 1: amount of it. I mean, that's that's awesome. That type
- 34:49Speaker 1: of stuff, to me, is so motivating. I mean, obviously,
- 34:51Speaker 1: if you're doing it in a winning fashion for your team,
- 34:54Speaker 1: that's great.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I think the money should be upfront. I would say
- 34:58Speaker 3: no player gets incentives, but when they do work it out,
- 35:02Speaker 3: like Buxton's he was injured a lot, the team said
- 35:05Speaker 3: we'll still pay you an absolute voat load if you
- 35:09Speaker 3: stay healthy, and he said, you know what, I was
- 35:11Speaker 3: injured a lot and I will stay healthy.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So good for both of them. Guys.
- 35:14Speaker 1: This is a bit strange to me. I mean, we
- 35:16Speaker 1: are a major, major, major player in North American sports,
- 35:20Speaker 1: but Major League Baseball apparently is calling off its London
- 35:23Speaker 1: series for twenty twenty six due to scheduling conflicts, Like
- 35:26Speaker 1: how does this happen? By the way, so they deemed
- 35:29Speaker 1: it impractical to convert the field of baseball. Now, we've
- 35:32Speaker 1: played in London before. We just did this, right, an
- 35:34Speaker 1: expensive and labor intensive process. In the timeframe that would
- 35:38Speaker 1: have been available. The Yankees and the Blue Jays were
- 35:40Speaker 1: aiming to play gentlemen in the middle of June at
- 35:42Speaker 1: London Stadium, home to the Premier League soccer team west
- 35:45Speaker 1: Ham United. But apparently, AJ did you cover that game
- 35:48Speaker 1: in London when the Cubs it was.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Two years ago?
- 35:53Speaker 1: That's right, Okay, So I mean it was.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Awesome, It was awesome.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I would have loved to have been there. I would
- 35:59Speaker 1: have loved to think. It's money, Eric, is that the issue?
- 36:02Speaker 1: It's not. You don't think it's the time frame? What
- 36:04Speaker 1: do you do?
- 36:04Speaker 3: What is this an expensive and labor intensive process.
- 36:11Speaker 1: They but aren't they making a boatload of money on it?
- 36:15Speaker 3: Maybe they're not, And maybe that doesn't Maybe if you're
- 36:18Speaker 3: putting a lot out because they have to change the
- 36:20Speaker 3: pitch to a baseball field, maybe they didn't find enough
- 36:25Speaker 3: cash hesh to come in. No way, they're like, ah,
- 36:28Speaker 3: you know what, it's just too close. They knew how
- 36:31Speaker 3: long it was going to be to the next soccer game,
- 36:34Speaker 3: and how long it takes to get the field back
- 36:37Speaker 3: in shape to play soccer, So.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Why even announced the damn schedule? Then until you're certain
- 36:44Speaker 1: this money.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I hope they would get it.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Oh well, I have a hard time believing it's any
- 36:50Speaker 3: reason other than that. Because this is a thing to
- 36:53Speaker 3: grow the game. This grows the game in another country,
- 36:57Speaker 3: just like football is going Sal Paolo and Arctica, Germany,
- 37:03Speaker 3: like France, like they're going everywhere for the NFL. They're
- 37:07Speaker 3: not doing it because I don't know, maybe we'll break even.
- 37:10Speaker 3: They're doing it because it grows the game. It makes
- 37:12Speaker 3: them cash. But Major League Baseball says, you know what,
- 37:16Speaker 3: if we're not making enough, we're just gonna blame it
- 37:19Speaker 3: on the fact that, ah, we can't get the grass
- 37:22Speaker 3: to grow within the eighteen days.
- 37:24Speaker 2: They knew how long it was gonna be.
- 37:26Speaker 3: They knew how long it was gonna be to make
- 37:28Speaker 3: the pitch perfect for a Premier League game.
- 37:31Speaker 1: That's a good movie, by the way, pitch perfect. So
- 37:33Speaker 1: West Ham's final Premier League match of the season is
- 37:36Speaker 1: scheduled for May twenty fourth, twenty days aj before the
- 37:39Speaker 1: first planned baseball game. The conversion process took eighteen days
- 37:43Speaker 1: for Major League Baseball games in London in twenty twenty four.
- 37:46Speaker 1: MLB field consultant Murray Cook said last year conversion also
- 37:50Speaker 1: required eighteen days. In twenty twenty three, he said, while
- 37:52Speaker 1: in twenty nineteen the process took twenty one days. So
- 37:55Speaker 1: we're talking about a matter of days, which I'm not
- 37:57Speaker 1: saying is insignificant. But I find it odd that they
- 38:00Speaker 1: could not have like have figured this out or have
- 38:03Speaker 1: just pushed pushed the series. Like I don't know, I
- 38:07Speaker 1: don't understand like this whole scheduling thing, and I understand
- 38:10Speaker 1: the fairness part of it too, but it just seems
- 38:12Speaker 1: odd that they would announce it, advertise it, and then
- 38:15Speaker 1: pull back on it.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like it could work if they really
- 38:20Speaker 2: wanted it too. That's that's it. I don't know, I
- 38:23Speaker 2: don't know. I know this. When I went over there
- 38:25Speaker 2: was great, and I would have loved to have gone
- 38:26Speaker 2: over there again because it was. It was an awesome
- 38:29Speaker 2: vacation to go over there do a game. Basically, go
- 38:32Speaker 2: over to Europe for a week or longer and do
- 38:34Speaker 2: a baseball game and enjoy your time over there, because
- 38:37Speaker 2: it's a beautiful place if you haven't been. But I
- 38:38Speaker 2: would have loved to have gone. Didn't look like it's happened.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved it. I mean, of course, Manage League
- 38:43Speaker 1: Baseball is going to have a large international presidence, of
- 38:46Speaker 1: course for the twenty twenty six World Baseball Classic, which
- 38:49Speaker 1: I love that tournament. I don't know how you guys
- 38:51Speaker 1: feel about the WBC, but I absolutely love it. It's just
- 38:54Speaker 1: a bummer. I would have loved to have gone again
- 38:56Speaker 1: to continue to expand this this game of ours in London.
- 38:59Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens in twenty twenty six across
- 39:02Speaker 1: the pond. All right, guys, when we come back, we're
- 39:04Speaker 1: gonna be slapping some hands. We'll be right back. We
- 39:18Speaker 1: are slapping hands, and we're talking about the San Francisco Giants.
- 39:21Speaker 1: They beat the Diamondbacks yesterday boys five to one and
- 39:24Speaker 1: eleven innings to prevent getting swept. But furthermore, they're still
- 39:27Speaker 1: hanging by a thread. AJ So you're saying there's a chance, Well,
- 39:31Speaker 1: you're not with the San Francisco Giants, But I mean,
- 39:33Speaker 1: do you at this point as a player, if you
- 39:36Speaker 1: know you're probably not making it, do you just want
- 39:37Speaker 1: to be put out of your misery already or are
- 39:39Speaker 1: you still hanging onto that little tiny bit of hope
- 39:42Speaker 1: that you got a shot.
- 39:44Speaker 2: You're trying to hang on to all the hope you
- 39:46Speaker 2: can because you don't want the season to end and
- 39:47Speaker 2: you're hoping you can figure out a way to get
- 39:50Speaker 2: really hot. But yeah, it's tough for all these teams
- 39:54Speaker 2: just because where the Mets are at. And the Mets
- 39:56Speaker 2: are winning today already, so it's gonna be tough. I've
- 39:59Speaker 2: said it for a while now. The Mets are going
- 40:01Speaker 2: to get in. Now, can they do damage that's a
- 40:03Speaker 2: different story. But I firmly believe that these teams are
- 40:05Speaker 2: chasing her. I'm in Cincinnati, you know they're playing the Cubs.
- 40:09Speaker 2: The Cubs clinching, you can maybe sneak a win with
- 40:11Speaker 2: Hunter Green on the Mountain night, but it's gonna be
- 40:14Speaker 2: really hard to get in.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Verlander looks pretty good, Ekay turning back the clocks a
- 40:18Speaker 1: seven inning shutout, only three hits and two walks. He's
- 40:21Speaker 1: kind of going backward and says he wants to pitch
- 40:23Speaker 1: next year. I think he's about fifty two years old
- 40:25Speaker 1: right now. Coming back in twenty twenty six looks pretty
- 40:28Speaker 1: good for the old guy, huh.
- 40:30Speaker 3: I mean, he's got his ERA below four for the season.
- 40:34Speaker 3: At the beginning of the year, it looked like he
- 40:36Speaker 3: was walking one step out the door. Now he's firmly
- 40:41Speaker 3: back in the room. If he wants to pitch next year.
- 40:43Speaker 3: The way he's finished down the stretch here, I think
- 40:46Speaker 3: it's been seven or eight starts, he's proven that, you
- 40:51Speaker 3: know what, I'm ready to go. Maybe he's got to
- 40:54Speaker 3: figure out his off season routine, or maybe he did
- 40:57Speaker 3: too much early in the year, who knows, or it
- 41:00Speaker 3: was too cold in San Francisco, no idea what it was.
- 41:03Speaker 3: He's a veteran, he knows. But if he puts together
- 41:06Speaker 3: one more good start like he just had, he's going
- 41:09Speaker 3: to get himself another nice ten to fifteen million dollars
- 41:14Speaker 3: one year contract.
- 41:16Speaker 1: It probably was cold in San Francisco. That's a freezing
- 41:19Speaker 1: place to play. Matt Chapman. Patrick Bailey aj some bright
- 41:22Speaker 1: spots for the San Francisco Giants this year. I mean,
- 41:24Speaker 1: is this perhaps a way that Patrick Bailey can have
- 41:27Speaker 1: a more of a breakout season next year, can kind
- 41:30Speaker 1: of jump offensively to the next steps. Four homers in
- 41:33Speaker 1: his last thirty eight abs to give positive signs that
- 41:36Speaker 1: he can kind of take it to another level.
- 41:39Speaker 2: And needs to. He's always been great defensively, and they
- 41:41Speaker 2: were talking about him being a star behind the plate.
- 41:43Speaker 2: It hasn't happened, So hopefully he made. This is a
- 41:46Speaker 2: good sign and he can take the next step for
- 41:47Speaker 2: the Giants and they can start trying to get back
- 41:50Speaker 2: to Buster Posey's winning ways when he was a player there.
- 41:52Speaker 2: They were led by a great catcher and every good
- 41:55Speaker 2: team as a good catcher.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it hasn't quite been the same since Buster Posey retired, right, Eric,
- 42:00Speaker 1: You and I are in all red today, but I
- 42:02Speaker 1: see that Krat's hats is read. Of course, who you
- 42:05Speaker 1: repping the Phillies today? Oh, Cincinnati, They still got a
- 42:09Speaker 1: shot huh.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I feel like I feel like we're all in Cincinnati
- 42:12Speaker 3: because we're there with AJ. So I appreciate AJ. Letting
- 42:15Speaker 3: us be Cinci fans today. Little Skyline Chili.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Gonna say, Skyline Chili. Are you eating it? Yeay or nay?
- 42:21Speaker 1: On the Skyline Chili boys? No, No, it's so bad
- 42:29Speaker 1: you guys, like who puts cinnamon on chili on spaghetti.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Lauren Albanize goes to a lot of ballparks and even
- 42:37Speaker 3: around city Field and she tries whatever the delicacy is
- 42:41Speaker 3: there and she got it, and her first her first
- 42:45Speaker 3: words were after she ate it, she goes, oh, it's
- 42:47Speaker 3: like it's like wet and soggy, and it was like
- 42:51Speaker 3: a perfect, perfect explanation of it.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Skyline Chili. No, thank you, all right, guys, thanks for
