- 1:33Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to movie meltdowns attack of the
- 1:35Speaker 4: killer soundtrack i'm brian and i'm christian and we are
- 1:38Speaker 4: coming to you live a digital recording from the grassy
- 1:41Speaker 4: knoll here at forecastle festival we are currently parked on.
- 1:45Speaker 12: A That's pretty much what it is.
- 1:47Speaker 13: Grassy knoll.
- 1:47Speaker 12: It's the grassy knoll.
- 1:48Speaker 13: Does it say that on the map?
- 1:50Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Let's ask that guy with the sniper rifle over there.
- 1:53Speaker 4: So we are, in fact, coming to you from the
- 1:55Speaker 4: Forecastle Festival. Once again, we were here last year and
- 1:59Speaker 4: had a really good time and did a nice episode,
- 2:02Speaker 4: I thought. So I thought we should do extra coverage
- 2:06Speaker 4: and come back here this year.
- 2:07Speaker 12: So what are your thoughts on it so far, Christian?
- 2:10Speaker 13: So far, it's been a good time. Like, I'm... Pretty
- 2:14Speaker 13: surprised on how roomy it is and that there is,
- 2:16Speaker 13: in fact, a grassy knoll for people to throw frisbees
- 2:19Speaker 13: and take naps.
- 2:20Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite things about this so far
- 2:22Speaker 4: since it's moved down here to the waterfront. It's just
- 2:25Speaker 4: you don't have to be packed in with people if
- 2:27Speaker 4: you don't want to be. If you want to be
- 2:28Speaker 4: crammed up at the stage, you know, right up there
- 2:30Speaker 4: by the people, you still can.
- 2:32Speaker 12: But you don't have to be.
- 2:33Speaker 4: You can just kind of hang back and watch the
- 2:35Speaker 4: show and still the same music. not so many people
- 2:39Speaker 4: jammed up against you. That's always a plus for me.
- 2:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 13: I think it's pretty amazing that there's four stages, uh,
- 2:44Speaker 13: usually packed with artists simultaneously and there's still room to
- 2:48Speaker 13: move around and, you know, see what you want to see.
- 2:51Speaker 12: That's what I was telling you yesterday. I was like,
- 2:53Speaker 12: I think that's my favorite thing. Just wandering around.
- 2:55Speaker 13: It's pretty nice.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Eventually I stopped and watched like the specific band we
- 2:59Speaker 4: were going to talk to. And we watched the closing
- 3:01Speaker 4: numbers last night, but a lot of the middle there,
- 3:03Speaker 4: I was like, let's just wander around. And Let's go
- 3:05Speaker 4: see what's over here and go see what these people
- 3:07Speaker 4: are doing over here. There's always weird people doing weird stuff.
- 3:10Speaker 14: Well, yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I appreciate that. It's equally as entertaining as the music
- 3:14Speaker 4: is watching people. I'm sure they say the same about me,
- 3:17Speaker 4: so it's okay.
- 3:17Speaker 13: I'm really hoping that we see the huge Hunter S.
- 3:20Speaker 13: Thompson again tonight because that was so amazing.
- 3:23Speaker 12: I think I mentioned him last year. It's one of
- 3:24Speaker 12: my favorite things here.
- 3:25Speaker 13: And the giant director's chair that they sat him in.
- 3:28Speaker 12: See, I didn't see that.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I don't know if they built that since last year,
- 3:30Speaker 4: but that's a new thing. For me, that's the first
- 3:32Speaker 4: time I'd seen that one. They parked him in the
- 3:34Speaker 4: giant director's chair. That was awesome.
- 3:35Speaker 7: It was pretty great.
- 3:36Speaker 13: I'm wondering how long we can go without getting hit
- 3:39Speaker 13: by a frisbee.
- 3:41Speaker 12: Crazy frisbee people. At least there's no hula hoopers in
- 3:43Speaker 12: the general vicinity.
- 3:44Speaker 13: Yeah, they're all up near the stage.
- 3:47Speaker 12: Those hula hoop girls are out of control.
- 3:49Speaker 11: Yes, it's hula hula everywhere.
- 3:51Speaker 3: From the parties of the Park Avenue Smart Set to
- 3:55Speaker 3: sweethearts who want to be married in the swing of things.
- 4:00Speaker 12: All right, well, we should kick things off.
- 4:02Speaker 4: You being the co-host of this musical episode, I thought
- 4:06Speaker 4: you could pick a song this time. So what would
- 4:07Speaker 4: you like to fire things off here with?
- 4:10Speaker 13: I know this is kind of cheating since we just
- 4:13Speaker 13: saw Jack White last night, who was the headliner. I
- 4:18Speaker 13: have to state the obvious. We were going to be friends.
- 4:21Speaker 13: The song from Napoleon Dynamite.
- 4:23Speaker 8: All right.
- 4:23Speaker 13: It's just a pretty great song.
- 4:30Speaker 15: Fall is here, hear the yell, back to school, ring
- 4:34Speaker 15: the bell, brand new shoes, walking blues, climb the fence,
- 4:39Speaker 15: books and pens, I can tell that we are.
- 4:43Speaker 16: Gonna be friends. I can tell that we are gonna
- 4:48Speaker 16: be friends. Walk with me, Susie Lee Through the park
- 4:57Speaker 16: and by the tree We will rest upon the ground
- 5:01Speaker 16: And look at all the books we found Safely walk.
- 5:04Speaker 14: To school without a.
- 5:05Speaker 16: Sound Safely walk to school without a sound.
- 5:15Speaker 14: Here we are, no one else. We walk to school
- 5:19Speaker 14: all by ourselves. There's dirt on our uniforms from chasing
- 5:23Speaker 14: all the ants and worms.
- 5:25Speaker 16: We clean up and now it's time to learn. We
- 5:31Speaker 16: clean up and now it's time to learn. Numbers, letters,
- 5:38Speaker 16: learn to spell. Lines and books and show and tell. Playtime,
- 5:43Speaker 16: we will throw the ball. Teacher marks our hand against
- 5:57Speaker 16: the wall. We don't notice any time pass. We don't
- 6:06Speaker 16: notice anything We sit side by side in every class.
- 6:13Speaker 14: Teacher thinks that.
- 6:15Speaker 17: I sound funny But she likes the way you sing
- 6:19Speaker 17: Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed When silly thoughts
- 6:22Speaker 17: go through my head About the bugs and alphabet When
- 6:27Speaker 17: I wake tomorrow I'll bet That you and I will
- 6:30Speaker 17: walk together again.
- 6:34Speaker 14: I can tell.
- 6:35Speaker 16: That we are gonna be friends.
- 6:38Speaker 14: Yes, I can tell that we are gonna be friends.
- 6:41Speaker 13: I mean, everybody, you know, there were so many people
- 6:44Speaker 13: singing along and, you know, it's just a very endearing
- 6:48Speaker 13: kind of song. So, I don't know. I just thought
- 6:51Speaker 13: that was kind of neat.
- 6:52Speaker 12: Nice tie-in.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Good tie-in, since, yeah, we did see him last night
- 6:56Speaker 4: and he's pretty badass. As usual, Jack White doesn't mess around, like,
- 7:01Speaker 4: When he gets into his songs, he's kind of ferocious.
- 7:05Speaker 13: Yeah, like it was pretty amazing to me. He did
- 7:09Speaker 13: a cover of a Hank Williams song. And forgive me
- 7:11Speaker 13: because I don't remember which one it was. And it
- 7:15Speaker 13: was kind of funny to me because it was like,
- 7:18Speaker 13: I like covers. I wasn't totally sold on whether or
- 7:22Speaker 13: not I liked that one. It was just really cool
- 7:25Speaker 13: that he can do a song in the same style
- 7:29Speaker 13: and still sound like Jack White. You know, there's no, like,
- 7:32Speaker 13: masking the fact that he sounds like Jack White.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there are people, especially when you're doing covers,
- 7:37Speaker 4: and they're so identifiable. You start to, you know, either,
- 7:41Speaker 4: if you're not mimicking their voice, you at least, like,
- 7:43Speaker 4: their cadence sometimes.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Sure.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Like, you're doing Dylan, sometimes you start to do Dylan. But, like,
- 7:49Speaker 4: I don't know, Jack White, he's done a good amount
- 7:50Speaker 4: of covers.
- 7:51Speaker 12: And, like, they're usually always Jack White.
- 7:54Speaker 13: Yeah, he's very Jack White. What was the other cover,
- 7:57Speaker 13: notable cover that he did?
- 7:59Speaker 4: Actually, we can work that in as well, because in
- 8:01Speaker 4: the middle there, actually, it's midway in because he like
- 8:04Speaker 4: the last half of the show was.
- 8:06Speaker 12: In like encore mode.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:08Speaker 4: He wrapped up really quick. And I was like, is
- 8:09Speaker 4: he really done? Like, I knew he wasn't really done,
- 8:11Speaker 4: which I'm like the people packing up their blanket in
- 8:13Speaker 4: front of us.
- 8:14Speaker 12: I was like, OK, guys, really? Have you been to
- 8:15Speaker 12: a concert ever?
- 8:16Speaker 4: Like, he played for a little while, and then he said,
- 8:18Speaker 4: thank you, good night, and they were packing their stuff up.
- 8:21Speaker 13: Well, she was also, like, taking a nap on the
- 8:23Speaker 13: blanket and being all pregnant and stuff.
- 8:25Speaker 18: That's no excuse.
- 8:25Speaker 12: That baby needed to hear some.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Jack White reverberating through the ambionic fluid.
- 8:30Speaker 13: Right, right. All the sound waves turning into ambionic waves.
- 8:35Speaker 4: But midway into his, he came back out, he did
- 8:37Speaker 4: several of his bigger songs, and kind of bust into.
- 8:50Speaker 19: Thank you.
- 9:36Speaker 11: Yeah!
- 10:14Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Thank you. Thank you.
- 12:23Speaker 12: Which, I can't believe we've gone this far and not
- 12:26Speaker 12: played it on this show.
- 12:27Speaker 18: I will never forgive your ass for this shit. This
- 12:29Speaker 18: is some fucked up repugnant shit.
- 12:30Speaker 12: Alright, so we also have special guests on this episode.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I did sit down with the Wands, and if you
- 12:39Speaker 4: are not familiar with them, you definitely should familiarize.
- 12:41Speaker 12: Yourself, because they are actually really good.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I saw them yesterday morning in play, and they're pretty awesome,
- 12:47Speaker 4: and I like their take on trying to cross over
- 12:50Speaker 4: with movies and I like all their experiences. They tied
- 12:54Speaker 4: them to their personal touring habits and vehicle. So I
- 13:00Speaker 4: think we should go now and talk to the wand.
- 13:02Speaker 7: I ain't never been I ain't never been I ain't
- 13:13Speaker 7: never been I ain't never been Way down.
- 13:18Speaker 12: Here Alright, so we're here with the Wands. I guess
- 13:21Speaker 12: introduce yourselves, guys.
- 13:23Speaker 18: I'm Simon. I play guitar in the Wands and sing.
- 13:25Speaker 12: I'm Thomas. I play bass.
- 13:28Speaker 5: I'm the other one. I'm Mark. I play drums.
- 13:31Speaker 12: I see you have braces too. So, how have you
- 13:37Speaker 12: found it here at 4Cast?
- 13:39Speaker 18: It's awesome. I love it.
- 13:41Speaker 20: It's our second festival that we've played. We did a
- 13:45Speaker 20: hangout last time and it's an awesome festival.
- 13:48Speaker 18: Great line-up.
- 13:49Speaker 20: And Kentucky's awesome, or Louisville's awesome.
- 13:52Speaker 12: How long have you been doing this as this band?
- 13:55Speaker 18: For about three years, I think.
- 13:57Speaker 12: Right, Mark?
- 13:58Speaker 10: Three years?
- 13:59Speaker 5: Yeah, about three years.
- 14:02Speaker 21: Maybe right at two years ago, put out the EP,
- 14:04Speaker 21: released a couple singles, and new record's about to come
- 14:07Speaker 21: out in September, so gearing up for that.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Doing this, and then doing a run of shows in August.
- 14:14Speaker 10: Very cool.
- 14:15Speaker 4: And then I guess going back further, I'm assuming you've
- 14:18Speaker 4: been playing all of you most of your lives.
- 14:21Speaker 12: So what, what were your early influences?
- 14:23Speaker 20: Uh, probably, probably the kinks and the Beatles. And then
- 14:26Speaker 20: my parents listened to a lot of Van Morrison growing up.
- 14:29Speaker 20: So yeah, I always had that in my ear, but yeah.
- 14:35Speaker 12: It's all sorts of stuff. I really loved.
- 14:36Speaker 8: I mean, definitely my dad was like a huge zombies
- 14:40Speaker 8: fan and, and, uh, I mean a lot of sixties
- 14:44Speaker 8: mod stuff that I heard growing up, but, uh, pretty
- 14:49Speaker 8: my parents were not one financially sound people as I
- 14:54Speaker 8: was growing up so so I kind of like learning
- 15:00Speaker 8: to play and things like that just they had they
- 15:04Speaker 8: had old literally vinyl records around that was like kind
- 15:08Speaker 8: of the best thing I'd come up with about like
- 15:10Speaker 8: 13 14 years old.
- 15:11Speaker 12: Yeah same for me just.
- 15:14Speaker 21: Raiding my parents record collection i think physical graffiti and
- 15:17Speaker 21: the white album and you know started there.
- 15:21Speaker 8: Mine was a little more like my parents were more
- 15:22Speaker 8: like like this like odd funk driven thing there was
- 15:26Speaker 8: like so me like learning to play was like all
- 15:29Speaker 8: right well my parents have like average white band on
- 15:33Speaker 8: and so you know it'd be like.
- 15:34Speaker 12: Who's that lady and.
- 15:36Speaker 8: Like just Just me, like 14 years old, trying to
- 15:39Speaker 8: figure out how to play that stuff.
- 15:41Speaker 12: That's good, actually. Who is that lady? Yeah, I really
- 15:44Speaker 12: wanted to figure out who that lady was. Have you
- 15:47Speaker 12: figured it out yet? Well, you know, I think I'm close.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Oh, God.
- 15:52Speaker 12: I missed her again. But yeah, that was fond memories.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Then while we're getting into your sound, I guess I'll
- 16:03Speaker 4: let you guys pick. What song of yours should we
- 16:06Speaker 4: play for them right now?
- 16:08Speaker 18: I think I can't fix you.
- 16:09Speaker 12: Yeah, I think that's a bad idea.
- 16:11Speaker 18: I'm just kidding.
- 16:13Speaker 12: Is that a bad idea?
- 16:13Speaker 18: That's a very good one. Bye.
- 16:29Speaker 14: Always on the run.
- 16:32Speaker 19: Tell me, love, what's been done to you?
- 16:37Speaker 7: Time to let it go, but you don't know where
- 16:40Speaker 7: your head is due.
- 16:42Speaker 14: Ah!
- 17:16Speaker 22: No one turns me on Your arms are.
- 17:19Speaker 19: Full of scars Darling, try to find a window Behind
- 17:27Speaker 19: these bars I'm screaming.
- 18:09Speaker 7: Times we are.
- 18:11Speaker 12: Alone Any weird backstory?
- 19:07Speaker 4: Do you have one of those 15 minute unplugged stories
- 19:10Speaker 4: where you sit down and go, well, it was a
- 19:12Speaker 4: long time ago when I started writing this.
- 19:14Speaker 10: Oh.
- 19:15Speaker 8: Well, I was sitting in my coffee room and he
- 19:18Speaker 8: was sitting there listening to Coldplay's I Can Fix You
- 19:22Speaker 8: and he thought, what would this song sound like if
- 19:24Speaker 8: it was completely opposite?
- 19:27Speaker 12: You're like, I can fix that.
- 19:28Speaker 5: I can't fix Coldplay though.
- 19:34Speaker 20: No, it was, yeah, we all usually write together. Like,
- 19:37Speaker 20: it all starts in, like, acoustic guitar, and we just
- 19:41Speaker 20: meet in my living room every Sunday and just bang
- 19:45Speaker 20: out a song.
- 19:47Speaker 18: It's a favorite one of mine.
- 19:49Speaker 12: Sunday night music club.
- 19:53Speaker 8: His dad would always kind of head up the little
- 19:56Speaker 8: writing session that we would do. His dad was a
- 20:01Speaker 8: good person to sort of create a positive headspace.
- 20:04Speaker 12: I don't know. Fun and it's like, all right.
- 20:08Speaker 8: We get through the first verse and the first chorus,
- 20:11Speaker 8: and then we can have a drink. It's a reward
- 20:17Speaker 8: system involved here.
- 20:18Speaker 12: Exactly, a reward system.
- 20:21Speaker 18: Yeah, we write a verse, then we have a whiskey
- 20:23Speaker 18: or a bourbon. Or a gin. Gin and tonic's our drink.
- 20:28Speaker 12: That's not my drink.
- 20:29Speaker 18: Which is what we're on today.
- 20:32Speaker 12: I'm a straight tequila guy, personally.
- 20:33Speaker 18: Tomorrow's the big day.
- 20:35Speaker 5: So get your rest.
- 20:37Speaker 8: No late night parties, drinking tequila and trying to get lucky.
- 20:40Speaker 4: So yeah, we kind of do the little crossover of
- 20:42Speaker 4: movies and music.
- 20:44Speaker 12: So I guess I was going.
- 20:45Speaker 4: To have you guys pick some of your favorites of times,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you know, songs that come up in movies or on
- 20:50Speaker 4: soundtracks that were just like your favorites over the years.
- 20:55Speaker 5: I don't know, but we watch a lot of Jackie
- 20:56Speaker 5: Chan movies.
- 20:58Speaker 12: What is the soundtrack?
- 20:59Speaker 8: We actually quite literally watched Jackie Chan's First Strike on
- 21:03Speaker 8: the way to.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Watch some Dumb and Dumber. You know, lighthearted.
- 21:07Speaker 8: A big problem with that is we have VHS in
- 21:10Speaker 8: the van.
- 21:11Speaker 20: Yeah, we got a copy of Dumb and Dumber on VHS.
- 21:16Speaker 20: I'm watching it on the drive up. Red right hand,
- 21:20Speaker 20: Nick Cave comes on. And that's like Nick Cave's favorite line.
- 21:24Speaker 5: That one sneaks up on you.
- 21:25Speaker 21: Yes.
- 21:42Speaker 14: Take a little walk to the edge of town And
- 21:45Speaker 14: go across the track.
- 21:49Speaker 18: Where the viaduct looms like a bird of doom As
- 21:54Speaker 18: it shifts.
- 21:56Speaker 3: And cracks Where secrets lie in the board of fires
- 22:02Speaker 3: In the humming wires Hey man, you know you're never.
- 22:06Speaker 15: Coming back Across the square, across the bridge Across the mills,
- 22:10Speaker 15: across the stack.
- 22:14Speaker 7: On a gathering storm comes a tall handsome man in.
- 22:19Speaker 3: A dusty black coat with a red right hand.
- 22:23Speaker 7: He'll wrap you in his arms, tell you that you've been.
- 22:29Speaker 14: A good boy.
- 22:39Speaker 18: He'll rekindle all the dreams that.
- 22:43Speaker 20: Took you a lifetime to destroy.
- 22:48Speaker 11: He'll reach deep into the hole, heal your shrinking soul.
- 22:53Speaker 14: But there won't be a single thing that you can do.
- 22:57Speaker 18: He's a God, he's a man, he's a ghost, he's
- 23:00Speaker 18: a guru.
- 23:04Speaker 22: They're a-whisperin' his name through this disappearin' land.
- 23:08Speaker 3: But hidden in his coat is a red right hand.
- 23:14Speaker 7: You don't owe no money We'll get you some You
- 23:21Speaker 7: don't have no car Get you one.
- 23:37Speaker 14: You don't have no self-respect. You feel like an insect.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Well, don't you worry, buddy, because here he comes.
- 23:47Speaker 10: Through the ghettos and the barrio and the barrio and
- 23:50Speaker 10: the slum.
- 23:54Speaker 11: His shadow is cast wherever he stands.
- 23:58Speaker 7: Stacks of green paper in his red right hand.
- 24:03Speaker 14: Oh, oh, oh. Thank you. Thank you.
- 25:26Speaker 18: You'll see him in your nightmares, you'll see him in
- 25:30Speaker 18: your dreams.
- 25:30Speaker 14: He'll appear out of nowhere, but he ain't what he seems.
- 25:43Speaker 7: You'll see him in your head on a TV screen.
- 25:47Speaker 14: Hey, buddy, I'm warning you to turn it off.
- 25:51Speaker 3: He's a ghost, he's a god, he's a man, he's
- 25:55Speaker 3: a guru.
- 25:58Speaker 6: You're one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan, designed and.
- 26:04Speaker 14: Directed by his red right hand. Thank you for watching.
- 26:45Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 27:31Speaker 12: Odd that it's in that one, too. And then it's
- 27:34Speaker 12: in that movie.
- 27:35Speaker 18: It's in that one.
- 27:36Speaker 12: Not The Scream. I think we referenced it on the
- 27:38Speaker 12: show in Scream before. But, yeah, I forget. Dumb and Dumber.
- 27:41Speaker 12: What a weird place for.
- 27:42Speaker 18: It to turn. Yeah, when we were watching, I was like, what?
- 27:44Speaker 18: Nick Cave's in this?
- 27:45Speaker 12: I forgot this was in here. That's very strange.
- 27:48Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:49Speaker 12: So are you excited for the sequel?
- 27:51Speaker 21: No.
- 27:53Speaker 18: I watched Dumb and Dumber.
- 27:56Speaker 12: I'm definitely going to watch the sequel.
- 27:57Speaker 18: Not good.
- 27:59Speaker 12: I just saw the trailer, and now it just kind
- 28:00Speaker 12: of makes me sad. Right. They just look so old now. Well,
- 28:05Speaker 12: I mean, that's, yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 4: It's been 20 years, and it looks like it's been
- 28:09Speaker 4: 20 years.
- 28:10Speaker 8: But good cinematic moment with a great song. Where Is
- 28:15Speaker 8: My Mind, the Pixies at the end of Fight Club.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 28:19Speaker 18: Oh, that's right.
- 28:20Speaker 14: Phenomenal.
- 28:21Speaker 18: Stop.
- 28:46Speaker 14: With your feet on the air, your head on the ground.
- 28:53Speaker 14: Try to strip and spin it.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Yeah. Get rid of the lies that there's nothing in it.
- 29:02Speaker 14: And you'll ask yourself, where is my mind? Where is
- 29:08Speaker 14: my mind?
- 29:09Speaker 17: Where is my mind?
- 29:35Speaker 14: We're at the end. Where is my mind? We'll be
- 30:11Speaker 14: right back.
- 30:36Speaker 7: Where am I? Where am I?
- 32:00Speaker 14: I think I'm losing my mind, no?

- 32:52Speaker 21: Shane's got a really good movie announcer voice.
- 32:55Speaker 18: Welcome to Movie Meltdown, in a world of total darkness.
- 33:06Speaker 8: There's plenty of good ones. I'm trying to think. I
- 33:10Speaker 8: can't think of any song specific at this moment, but
- 33:13Speaker 8: one of my... Tears of Fear, Donnie Darko, absolutely.
- 33:17Speaker 18: There we.
- 33:21Speaker 23: Go.
- 33:22Speaker 18: Exactly.
- 33:23Speaker 4: That's one of my favorites, that they do that cover,
- 33:26Speaker 4: when they do that cover of Tears for Fears, that's
- 33:28Speaker 4: like ten times more powerful than they sound.
- 33:31Speaker 12: Like, there was a weird song to begin with, and
- 33:32Speaker 12: that cover goes so much darker.
- 33:34Speaker 18: Wasn't that on Dumb and Dumber as well? I think
- 33:38Speaker 18: it was.
- 33:38Speaker 4: There's a weird dumb and dumber crossover going here.
- 33:42Speaker 12: Probably.
- 33:42Speaker 18: It all comes.
- 33:45Speaker 5: Back to the Shaggy Wagon.
- 33:46Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 34:17Speaker 7: I wanted to be with you alone And talk about
- 34:22Speaker 7: the weather But your patience I can place against the
- 34:28Speaker 7: child in your face Won't escape my attention You keep
- 34:37Speaker 7: your distance, me the sister of touch And gentle persuasion
- 34:47Speaker 7: I'm lost in admiration.
- 34:48Speaker 14: Dude, I need you this much. Oh, you're wasting my time.
- 34:53Speaker 14: You're just, just, just wasting time.
- 34:55Speaker 7: Something happens and I'm head over heels. I never find
- 35:00Speaker 7: out until I'm head over heels. Something happens and I'm
- 35:05Speaker 7: head over heels. I don't take my heart, don't.
- 35:10Speaker 14: Break my heart.
- 35:19Speaker 7: Throw it away.
- 35:20Speaker 14: Throw it away.
- 35:20Speaker 7: I'm waiting for you. I'm waiting for you. Thought of
- 35:24Speaker 7: your future. We're one foot in the past now, just now.
- 35:26Speaker 9: Now, now, now.
- 35:26Speaker 14: A few now.
- 35:45Speaker 7: My mother and my brothers used to be the kids.
- 35:49Speaker 7: I've been dreaming, I'm adopting. It's hard to be a
- 35:55Speaker 7: man when there's a girl in your life. Oh, I
- 35:58Speaker 7: feel so.
- 35:58Speaker 14: Something happens and I'm head over heels. I never find.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Nothing happens and I'll let it all burn me inside.
- 36:21Speaker 7: Don't take my heart, don't break my heart. No, no,
- 36:34Speaker 7: don't throw it away.
- 36:37Speaker 14: This is my.
- 36:50Speaker 7: La, la, la, la, la. I'm trying to think of
- 37:58Speaker 7: some songs that were in.
- 37:59Speaker 20: So our last fan that we had, it got totaled,
- 38:02Speaker 20: but it came with a copy of Patrick Swayze's Dirty Dancing.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Nice.
- 38:07Speaker 18: Which was a VHS copy.
- 38:08Speaker 12: And what else did it come with?
- 38:11Speaker 18: Ants.
- 38:12Speaker 5: And a copy of that.
- 38:13Speaker 18: And Finding Nemo. And I did not watch... Yeah, I
- 38:15Speaker 18: watched them all. Yeah, I watched them all.
- 38:16Speaker 4: It's just watchable. It's DreamWorks at its finest back in
- 38:21Speaker 4: the day, but... It's gotten better lately. It's still my
- 38:23Speaker 4: favorite movie of all time.
- 38:25Speaker 12: What about Bob? You like to go sailing? I do
- 38:29Speaker 12: love to go sailing. Look, I'm sailing. I'm sailing. Well, yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 12: I guess just some good movies.
- 38:37Speaker 4: It sounds like you watch them on the road, so
- 38:39Speaker 4: just tie into movies.
- 38:40Speaker 20: I like a lot of Guy Ritchie's movies, like Snatch
- 38:43Speaker 20: and Lockstock.
- 38:45Speaker 12: Lockstock is pretty music-oriented. He works a lot of that
- 38:49Speaker 12: in with his crazy editing.
- 38:50Speaker 18: Yeah, all of his music is great in them.
- 38:52Speaker 10: Definitely.
- 38:52Speaker 5: That song, Spooky, that's in Lockstock.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 21: It's just goofy and amazing as that song is.
- 38:58Speaker 5: It's like tenfold in that soundtrack for whatever reason. It's
- 39:02Speaker 5: just so perfect.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Is getting kind of groovy you call me up and
- 39:22Speaker 1: ask me would i like to go with you and
- 39:25Speaker 1: see a movie First I say no, I've got some
- 39:32Speaker 1: plans for tonight. And then I stop.
- 39:37Speaker 14: And say alright.
- 39:39Speaker 7: Love is kind.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Of crazy with a spooky little boy like you.
- 39:48Speaker 14: You always keep me guessing. I never seem.
- 39:51Speaker 7: To know what you are thinking. And if a girl
- 39:57Speaker 7: looks at.
- 39:58Speaker 14: You, it's for.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Sure your little eye.
- 40:02Speaker 7: Will be awaking.
- 40:06Speaker 14: I get confused.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I never know where I stand. And then you smile.
- 40:13Speaker 7: Spooky.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you Just like a ghost But now
- 40:47Speaker 1: I know He's always got like every single movie.
- 41:16Speaker 7: Do you know the band Specials?
- 41:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 18: Yeah, he always puts one of those tracks in there.
- 41:44Speaker 12: I kind of like that.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Those directors that just kind of... They're not even hit bands,
- 41:49Speaker 4: but you can tell it's their favorite band and they
- 41:51Speaker 4: will just work them in over the years. That's always
- 41:54Speaker 4: kind of cool.
- 41:55Speaker 21: I remember as a kid when Pulp Fiction came out
- 41:57Speaker 21: and Urge Overkill's... Oh, yeah.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 42:01Speaker 4: See, that's one of those that it is weird when they...
- 42:03Speaker 4: There's so many period piece kind of music. I was
- 42:07Speaker 4: thinking that with Dirty Dancing. It's the same way. It's
- 42:09Speaker 4: all this music from the era and then... Pulp Fiction,
- 42:12Speaker 4: he's stealing all this era music, and then he'll re-record this.
- 42:16Speaker 12: So there's two or three.
- 42:17Speaker 4: That were like modern people, but then there's all this
- 42:19Speaker 4: other stuff he's pulling out of like 60s and 70s.
- 42:22Speaker 12: That one's really cool.
- 42:23Speaker 11: Girl, you'll be a woman soon.
- 42:34Speaker 24: I love you so much, can't count all the ways
- 42:36Speaker 24: I've died for you, girl, and all I can say
- 42:38Speaker 24: is he's not your kind. They'll never get tired of
- 42:44Speaker 24: putting it down and I never know when I come
- 42:46Speaker 24: around what I'm gonna find. Don't let them break.
- 42:52Speaker 14: Up your mind. Don't you look at it. There'll be
- 42:59Speaker 14: no one more soon. Please. Please.
- 43:07Speaker 9: Come take my hand Girl.
- 43:11Speaker 7: You'll be the one I'm missing You'll be the one.
- 43:18Speaker 9: I'm missing You'll be the one I'm missing.
- 43:24Speaker 2: I've been missing the.
- 43:28Speaker 7: Soup for all of my life Over this.
- 43:31Speaker 24: Thing, you'll get cussed like a man The boy's no
- 43:35Speaker 24: good Well, I finally found what I'm looking.
- 43:40Speaker 11: For But I beg you, the chance of ending for sure.
- 43:47Speaker 14: Surely it would Baby.
- 43:50Speaker 3: How God I could Now.
- 43:52Speaker 7: It's up to you.
- 43:55Speaker 9: Kid There'll be a woman to say Please.
- 44:03Speaker 7: Come take my hand.
- 44:07Speaker 14: Girl, you'll be.
- 44:08Speaker 7: Alone soon Soon, you'll need someone You'll be a woman
- 44:43Speaker 7: soon Please Come.
- 44:44Speaker 14: Take my hand Girl You'll be a woman soon Soon
- 44:45Speaker 14: But soon You'll need.
- 44:47Speaker 2: One more.
- 45:19Speaker 18: Yeah, Quentin Tarantino puts a lot of good music in his.
- 45:22Speaker 5: I mean, everything.
- 45:23Speaker 12: It's hard, yeah.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Even the movies that you're like, I kind of like
- 45:26Speaker 4: that one, but the soundtrack is bad.
- 45:28Speaker 12: Although, let's be honest, the original version, like Neil Diamond... What?
- 45:33Speaker 12: Neil Diamond doing, girl, you'll be a woman soon.
- 45:35Speaker 18: You shut your dirty mouth.
- 45:36Speaker 12: You shut your dirty mouth.
- 45:37Speaker 5: Fight, fight.
- 45:39Speaker 20: Did you ever watch, what was that newest Quentin Tarantino
- 45:42Speaker 20: movie he did with Jamie Foxx?
- 45:45Speaker 12: Django?
- 45:45Speaker 18: What did you think of that?
- 45:47Speaker 12: I didn't see that. I liked it.
- 45:49Speaker 18: I thought it was fucking awesome.
- 45:51Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 45:51Speaker 4: I mean, it's one of those, like, you, it's, he's
- 45:55Speaker 4: a weird filmmaker because it works on so many levels. Like,
- 45:58Speaker 4: it works as a fun movie at moments, but then, like,
- 46:01Speaker 4: if you want to go into the subtext of, like,
- 46:03Speaker 4: this horrible commentary on, like, slavery and racism and racism
- 46:08Speaker 4: within your own race. And like, it gets way deeper
- 46:10Speaker 4: than it should. And like, it can also just be
- 46:13Speaker 4: him shooting people. It's a lot of fun and deeper
- 46:17Speaker 4: than that.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 12: Cause again, he, well, there's the Django theme song that
- 46:20Speaker 12: kicks in. It's like, Django!
- 46:23Speaker 11: Django!
- 46:23Speaker 2: Have you always been alone?
- 46:28Speaker 14: Django! Django!
- 46:32Speaker 2: Django, have you.
- 46:33Speaker 22: Never loved again? Love will live on, oh Life.
- 46:37Speaker 7: Must go on, oh For.
- 46:44Speaker 22: You cannot spend your life regretting.
- 46:52Speaker 9: Django Django, you must face.
- 46:58Speaker 22: Another day Django Django, now your love has gone away.
- 47:06Speaker 14: Lost your lover, oh, oh.
- 47:10Speaker 22: Now you've lost her, oh, oh. But you've lost her forever, Django.
- 47:19Speaker 22: When there are clouds in the.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Sky, Under the showers the sun will be shining.
- 48:09Speaker 7: Oh, you've lost her, oh, but you've lost her forever, Django.
- 48:13Speaker 22: When there are clouds in the skies and they are gray.
- 48:39Speaker 14: After the showers the sun will be shining.
- 49:06Speaker 12: And again, I've forgotten, he does that with everything.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Like, he drags out old movies, old bands, you know, like,
- 49:12Speaker 4: everything and kind of just plays his favorite stuff.
- 49:14Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 49:16Speaker 8: He definitely likes it to be very, very intriguing. He's
- 49:20Speaker 8: an eclectic guy.
- 49:23Speaker 12: I think I'd be friends with him.
- 49:25Speaker 8: I tend to rate celebrities and famous people based on
- 49:30Speaker 8: whether or not I'd be friends with him.
- 49:32Speaker 12: I think I like him as a director more than
- 49:35Speaker 12: having to sit next to him all day long. He
- 49:36Speaker 12: gets so hyper. He might really shock a person.
- 49:38Speaker 14: I don't know.
- 49:39Speaker 12: After a while, you might be like, Quentin, really?
- 49:41Speaker 20: Stop.
- 49:41Speaker 12: He could really be terrible.
- 49:41Speaker 18: He goes on a lot of uppers or something.
- 49:43Speaker 12: You never know. Maybe he's an Aryan race kind of guy.
- 49:45Speaker 12: I don't know. Maybe there's all sorts of weird things
- 49:48Speaker 12: about him.
- 49:50Speaker 9: Wait.
- 49:50Speaker 18: Lay off on the Aryan jokes.
- 49:53Speaker 12: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend the Aryans.
- 49:57Speaker 4: On that note, Inglorious Basterds. He works in that awesome
- 50:01Speaker 4: David Bowie out of nowhere.
- 50:02Speaker 18: That was the best transition ever.
- 50:04Speaker 12: Speaking of Nazis, anyway, cat people.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Colder than the moon It's been so long Feel my
- 50:43Speaker 3: blood enraged It's just the fear Of losing you Don't
- 50:58Speaker 3: you know my name Well, you've been so long And
- 51:12Speaker 3: I've been putting on fire.
- 51:20Speaker 23: With gasoline See these eyes.
- 51:31Speaker 14: So red.
- 51:34Speaker 11: Red like jungle burning bright Those who feel me near.
- 51:42Speaker 14: Pull up lines and.
- 51:44Speaker 22: Change their minds.
- 51:48Speaker 3: It's peace or love.
- 51:54Speaker 14: Still this pausing night A blank echo.
- 52:00Speaker 11: A heartbeat Just be still.
- 52:04Speaker 18: With me.
- 52:06Speaker 14: You wouldn't believe.
- 52:07Speaker 11: What I've been through You've been so long And it's
- 52:15Speaker 11: been so long And I've been putting out the fire
- 52:21Speaker 11: with gasoline Putting out the fire With gasoline.
- 52:53Speaker 3: See these tears so blue.
- 52:57Speaker 11: An ageless heart.
- 52:59Speaker 3: That can never mend These tears can never dry Judgment
- 53:06Speaker 3: made can never bend.
- 53:09Speaker 11: See these eyes so green I can stare for a
- 53:16Speaker 11: thousand years.
- 53:18Speaker 22: Just be still with me.
- 53:21Speaker 11: You wouldn't believe what I've been through. It's been so long.
- 53:28Speaker 14: Well, it's been so long.
- 53:32Speaker 7: And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline. Putting
- 53:41Speaker 7: out the fire with gasoline.
- 54:13Speaker 7: .
- 54:27Speaker 14: So long. So long. So long. So long. So long.
- 54:47Speaker 14: So long.
- 55:01Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 56:04Speaker 19: Oh, wow.
- 56:04Speaker 18: That's an awesome movie.
- 56:05Speaker 8: That is.
- 56:06Speaker 4: And one that I remember at the time, I knew
- 56:07Speaker 4: several people that hated that. Because it's like, it's the
- 56:11Speaker 4: one that's like totally out of context. It's out of
- 56:14Speaker 4: the time period. It like breaks that wall. But to me,
- 56:18Speaker 4: like I don't have a problem with that. Like if
- 56:19Speaker 4: the song works, it works.
- 56:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:21Speaker 12: So, yeah, I thought that was cool.
- 56:23Speaker 20: What's that quote that Brad put in that? He's like,
- 56:26Speaker 20: we're in the business of killing Nazis. In business, it's
- 56:29Speaker 20: a booming. Fucking awesome quote.
- 56:33Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 56:35Speaker 12: Any other movies that are favorites?
- 56:37Speaker 3: Uh.
- 56:38Speaker 12: Dear Lord, there's so many favorites.
- 56:40Speaker 18: Did you see Four Rooms?
- 56:42Speaker 5: Yeah, Four Rooms is great.
- 56:43Speaker 12: Four Rooms is cool.
- 56:45Speaker 5: Godfather, too.
- 56:46Speaker 4: When he plays it at the end, you're like, oh.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Oh.
- 56:51Speaker 12: See, I'm trying to think. Mark, I know one of
- 56:53Speaker 12: your favorite movies is Fried Green Tomatoes. Do you have
- 56:55Speaker 12: anything to say about that one?
- 56:58Speaker 5: No, I just have a soft spot for the Whistle
- 57:01Speaker 5: Stop Cafe.
- 57:01Speaker 18: That's good.
- 57:02Speaker 5: I really do.
- 57:03Speaker 12: Do you favor one half or the other?
- 57:05Speaker 4: Because I'm okay with the flashback part, but then you
- 57:07Speaker 4: get the old ladies arguing.
- 57:10Speaker 12: Go back to killing guys in the past. That part
- 57:13Speaker 12: was cool.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Right.
- 57:15Speaker 12: Sort of seems like Stephen King at that point. What
- 57:18Speaker 12: is this, Dolores Claiborne 2?
- 57:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:20Speaker 12: It's very strange. I'm trying to think. All sorts of
- 57:24Speaker 12: movies we could talk about. Have you seen anything lately?
- 57:28Speaker 12: Have I seen anything lately?
- 57:30Speaker 8: Tell you what, as odd as it is, I fell
- 57:33Speaker 8: asleep within the first 15 minutes of trying to watch
- 57:35Speaker 8: Milo and Otis the other day.
- 57:37Speaker 12: That's not even a joke. It might be a joke
- 57:40Speaker 12: on me personally.
- 57:41Speaker 4: I keep hearing the story about that.
- 57:44Speaker 12: How they made that. Have you heard the sad tale?
- 57:47Speaker 12: Don't tell me there's a real sad tale. Do you
- 57:50Speaker 12: want me to not tell you? Because it's horrible. I
- 57:52Speaker 12: kind of want you to tell me.
- 57:53Speaker 5: I don't want you to ruin my childhood.
- 57:54Speaker 12: Okay, then I'll shut up. I'm not going to promise
- 57:55Speaker 12: the listeners that I won't openly read. Don't Google things
- 57:58Speaker 12: about my childhood. I won't.
- 58:00Speaker 5: I don't even know. I've never seen it.
- 58:01Speaker 18: What?
- 58:02Speaker 12: What is it? I don't know.
- 58:03Speaker 18: I've never seen it. It's where one guy sadly narrates
- 58:05Speaker 18: the whole thing. And it's the character of all these
- 58:07Speaker 18: animals that are running around. You haven't seen that?
- 58:09Speaker 2: No.
- 58:10Speaker 12: These animals are crazy.
- 58:11Speaker 5: You need to watch that. And Homeward Bound.
- 58:13Speaker 18: I've seen Homeward Bound.
- 58:14Speaker 8: It's basically that, but it's cooler and earlier.
- 58:17Speaker 12: There's only one person doing every voice.
- 58:19Speaker 18: Anyway.
- 58:21Speaker 12: I'm sorry. You were going to say.
- 58:22Speaker 4: I think that was throwback to the Disney. They always
- 58:24Speaker 4: had that weird narrator guy that was narrating.
- 58:27Speaker 12: Dogs on adventures.
- 58:28Speaker 10: Right.
- 58:29Speaker 12: Disney made a lot of weird animal movies there in
- 58:31Speaker 12: that 60s and 70s.
- 58:32Speaker 8: That guy stayed in his basement apartment until he got
- 58:35Speaker 8: that call from Disney every time.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 58:38Speaker 18: I'm a big fan of a lot of Gene Wilder movies.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah?
- 58:42Speaker 18: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, him and Richard Pryor.
- 58:46Speaker 4: That's one towards the end, too. I always liked that one.
- 58:50Speaker 4: They got big with Stir Crazy and Silver Street. There's
- 58:54Speaker 4: so many good quotes in that movie.
- 58:56Speaker 5: Blazing Saddles. It was written for Richard Pryor.
- 59:01Speaker 12: Written by Richard Pryor. I think they were afraid he
- 59:05Speaker 12: was just going to push the envelope a little too much.
- 59:09Speaker 5: Cleavon Little.
- 59:10Speaker 10: Yeah, do it.
- 59:10Speaker 4: That's one of those, yeah, you watch that now and
- 59:13Speaker 4: you're like, they can't make this movie now.
- 59:15Speaker 12: Like, they could never make this movie again.
- 59:17Speaker 5: That's amazing, though.
- 59:18Speaker 4: Thankfully, it's written by a black guy and a Jewish guy.
- 59:21Speaker 4: So they think they have the license to make fun
- 59:23Speaker 4: of everybody. They kind of did.
- 59:25Speaker 5: They kind of did.
- 59:27Speaker 18: It made it okay.
- 59:27Speaker 9: Okay.
- 59:30Speaker 6: He rode a blazing saddle He wore a shining star His.
- 59:37Speaker 25: Job to offer battle To.
- 59:41Speaker 6: Batman near and far He.
- 59:44Speaker 11: Conquered fear and he conquered hate He.
- 59:48Speaker 25: Turned dark night into day He made his blazing saddle
- 59:55Speaker 25: A torch to light the way When.
- 1:00:01Speaker 26: Outlaws ruled the West And fear filled the land A
- 1:00:08Speaker 26: cry went up for a man with guts To.
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: Take the West in hand They needed a man who
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: was brave and true With justice for all as his
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: aim Then out of the sun rode a man with
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: a gun And Bart was his name Yes, Bart was
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: his name He rode a blazing saddle He wore a
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: shining star.
- 1:00:41Speaker 25: His job to offer battle To Batman near and far.
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: He conquered fear and he conquered hate.
- 1:00:53Speaker 14: He turned dark night into day. He made his blazing.
- 1:00:58Speaker 16: Saddle a torch.
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: To light the way.
- 1:01:08Speaker 20: Yeah, I'm a massive fan of Richard Pryor, that Brister's Millions,
- 1:01:10Speaker 20: the remake of the original.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:01:13Speaker 18: Yeah, I always loved that movie.
- 1:01:14Speaker 12: It was good. Have you seen Bustin' Loose? There's one
- 1:01:18Speaker 12: for the list. It's pretty fun. It's almost... He has
- 1:01:21Speaker 12: serious moments in that. It's pretty good drama for him occasionally.
- 1:01:25Speaker 12: It's him.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: He gets stuck driving a busload of kids. Can you
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: imagine Richard Pryor trapped on a bus with a bunch
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: of kids?
- 1:01:33Speaker 12: It's not going to go well. But it's not one
- 1:01:35Speaker 12: of the wacky comedies. It's not... It's not moving.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 1:01:40Speaker 12: Bustin' loose? Bustin' loose. That's the way to go. Hell yeah.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 1:01:47Speaker 18: I think that's all the movies I can think of.
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: Cool.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Well, what plans do you guys have for the rest
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: of this year? Do you have big stuff coming up?
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01:56Speaker 20: We've got a little tour coming up in August, and
- 1:01:59Speaker 20: then the next festival we do is Austin City Limits,
- 1:02:02Speaker 20: which has never been to Austin, so that'll be cool.
- 1:02:05Speaker 12: Oddly enough, we have a ton of listeners in Texas.
- 1:02:08Speaker 18: Do you really?
- 1:02:08Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: And I just assume it's the coolness of Austin and
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: everywhere it's spread outwardly. Because, yeah, I have no idea
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: why otherwise. It's like, I think it outnumbers here. And I, like,
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: work here.
- 1:02:20Speaker 12: And I'm, like, putting flyers out here. And, like, yeah, Texas.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: We run into that with the band, though. I mean, Europe,
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: the U.K. and Spain, got a bunch of followers. And
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: then Brazil and Mexico, yeah.
- 1:02:31Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: In a lot of South America.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: That's awesome, because I'll bring up our stuff sometimes and
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: be amazed that there's people in Iraq.
- 1:02:41Speaker 12: And I'm hoping these are troops or something.
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: And then I'll get ones in Denmark and Australia. And
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: I'm like, how do you find? The internet is an
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: amazing thing. But yeah, it's cool when it kind of
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: crosses over. And music always kind of does that. Music
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: seems like it transfers over to other languages and other
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: countries pretty well.
- 1:03:00Speaker 12: It does.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: But uh and i guess also where should people come
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: find you what's the best.
- 1:03:05Speaker 20: Way to get a hold of you probably probably just
- 1:03:06Speaker 20: on facebook and then we got a website thewandsmusic.com.
- 1:03:09Speaker 12: Or come walk around nashville you might.
- 1:03:11Speaker 18: See it our finest in nashville yeah yeah.
- 1:03:13Speaker 21: But you can you can uh hear everything released on
- 1:03:16Speaker 21: on bandcamp you can find it on itunes spotify all
- 1:03:18Speaker 21: that stuff yeah uh and and the new record will
- 1:03:21Speaker 21: be the same all the major outlets to find it
- 1:03:23Speaker 21: you'll find.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: Us what's the best way that's working lately i've heard
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: a lot of people referencing bandcamp more than itunes lately.
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: Great uh Because it's a direct service where we control it.
- 1:03:33Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: There's no middlemen.
- 1:03:34Speaker 12: That's awesome.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: They've been good to us and it's super simple.
- 1:03:38Speaker 12: Very cool.
- 1:03:39Speaker 10: Very cool.
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: And if you can't make it there, go listen on SoundCloud.
- 1:03:43Speaker 14: Anywhere.
- 1:03:44Speaker 12: Just find you guys. Come find you guys. See you live.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Yeah, see us live. We'll be in New York.
- 1:03:52Speaker 12: We'll be there.
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: And then we'll be in Philly. We'll be in Raleigh.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: We'll be in Charleston. We'll be back in Louisville. Yeah.
- 1:04:01Speaker 18: Some venue called The New Vintage.
- 1:04:03Speaker 12: Have you been there before?
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:05Speaker 12: Actually, we recorded an episode there.
- 1:04:06Speaker 20: Oh, cool.
- 1:04:07Speaker 12: There we go.
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: We'll be back through here in a month.
- 1:04:09Speaker 10: Very cool.
- 1:04:09Speaker 9: Very cool.
- 1:04:10Speaker 12: I've heard The New Vintage is very cool.
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: And the guy that, the guy we were in contact with,
- 1:04:16Speaker 8: a man named Hunter, he was really, been pretty nice
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: so far.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: They've been kind of cool just working with people and
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: putting together really cool. The event we did was, it
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: was West Fest. And it was all these bands that
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: were covering songs from Wes Anderson movies. So it's like
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: everybody kind of picked. Everybody picked their favorite.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: We forgot to bring up Wes Sanderson.
- 1:04:34Speaker 18: We forgot to bring up Wes Sanderson, yeah. Everybody picked.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: I did just go see Grand Budapest.
- 1:04:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:04:39Speaker 18: I haven't seen that yet.
- 1:04:40Speaker 12: It's his best so far, I think.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: It's amazing.
- 1:04:42Speaker 12: It's the best place I want to see.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: I think so.
- 1:04:45Speaker 21: And I went back and last week re-watched Star-Tailing Limited.
- 1:04:49Speaker 12: Star-Tailing is fantastic.
- 1:04:51Speaker 18: I love Rush. Rush from Aquatic Life.
- 1:04:54Speaker 12: The life aquatic you mean?
- 1:04:56Speaker 18: Aquatic life. It's a watery life. It's sort of aquatic.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 1:05:02Speaker 12: Yeah, his stuff though. And again, somebody who just draws
- 1:05:04Speaker 12: from music.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: His attention to symmetry and his obsession with it.
- 1:05:07Speaker 18: He's super colorful as well all of his.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Shots yeah that's why I said the stop motion animation
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: was probably like the perfect medium for him when.
- 1:05:14Speaker 12: He switched to that I was just like fantastic Mr.
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: Fox fantastic Mr. Fox yeah because I was like he can.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: Control every minute little detail like it's perfect for him
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: because you know that's what he wants he gets it
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: most of the time anyway but.
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: Yeah you can tell he's very controlling and at the
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: same time you can tell that everybody's like well it
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: works so don't just do what he asks.
- 1:05:37Speaker 12: Yeah, don't mess with this system. It's where it comes from.
- 1:05:40Speaker 14: All right.
- 1:05:40Speaker 12: Well, thank you guys for talking with us.
- 1:05:42Speaker 18: Thank you so much.
- 1:05:42Speaker 12: Thank you. We'll come find you out on the road.
- 1:05:45Speaker 18: Cheers, man.
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: Cool.
- 1:05:46Speaker 12: Our pleasure.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 1:06:04Speaker 14: Hey there, this is John Doe. You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: Glad you are, because otherwise you'd be wasting your time
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: playing some stupid video game.
- 1:06:37Speaker 14: It had a VHS.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: That's amazing.
- 1:06:47Speaker 13: Was it one of those console ones, like the combo?
- 1:06:51Speaker 12: That I don't know.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: I know the one we borrowed when we went to
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: Chicago one time had a built-in VHS.
- 1:06:58Speaker 12: So we, like, drag out, like, Evil Dead and Army
- 1:07:00Speaker 12: of Darkness on VHS.
- 1:07:02Speaker 13: Oh, that's so amazing.
- 1:07:03Speaker 12: We were watching that on the way to Chicago.
- 1:07:05Speaker 13: Yeah, my family, I grew up, you know, with my
- 1:07:08Speaker 13: family driving, like, Chevy custom vans and stuff. And we
- 1:07:12Speaker 13: always had, like, the center console. It's like, it was
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: usually a combo VHS and television, and then we would
- 1:07:17Speaker 13: hook up the Nintendo to it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:21Speaker 12: Oh, back in 1968. Television.
- 1:07:26Speaker 13: Now an amazing Technicolor.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: Oh, so yes, thank you to the guys from The Wands.
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: They are awesome, and go check them out. As he said,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: they are touring around now, so go find them in
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: your area. I thought as far as working in another
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: reference for this weekend, we are, in the near future,
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: going to be watching The Replacements. So I thought, what
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: better way to work them in than to play Can't
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: Hardly Wait from Can't Hardly Wait.
- 1:07:51Speaker 14: Can't Hardly Wait Or are you a lover tomorrow? Tonight
- 1:08:05Speaker 14: I can't hold a pen.
- 1:08:11Speaker 7: Someone's got a stand that I can borrow I promise
- 1:08:19Speaker 7: not to roll the dress again That flash in the
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: evening Through a crack in the faith Jesus rides beside me.
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: He never buys any smokes.
- 1:08:55Speaker 14: Hurry up!
- 1:08:57Speaker 11: Hurry up!
- 1:08:57Speaker 14: Ain't you had enough of this? up for this stuff.
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: Ashtray floors Dirty clothes and filthy jokes.
- 1:09:09Speaker 19: See you're high and lonesome Try and try and try
- 1:09:36Speaker 19: Lights that flash in the evening Blue world in the
- 1:09:46Speaker 19: dreams I'll.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: Be home when I'm sleeping I can't hardly.
- 1:09:59Speaker 14: Wait I can't wait.
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: I can't wait Hardly wait I can't wait Hardly.
- 1:10:21Speaker 14: Wait I can't wait.
- 1:10:26Speaker 7: Hardly wait I can't wait.
- 1:10:47Speaker 18: Damn, woman, why you gotta be such a raging bitch?
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: Well, I have to say, as much as I've kind
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: of liked this experience, everybody I've seen and talked to
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: has been really thrilled with it. Like, again, usually you
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: go to things and people just kind of bitch the
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: whole time. And usually it's probably us. But I've been surprised, like,
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: meeting other people here. There was a weird guy standing
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: next to me talking on the swing over there a
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: minute ago. And he's from Chattanooga, and he was talking
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: about how much they loved it. And I walked past this,
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: and yes, I'm profiling here, this hippie girl earlier. But
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: her quote as I'm going by was, this is the
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: best festival like this I've ever been to. And I'm like, I, again,
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: by her looks, I'm assuming she's probably been to a
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: lot of.
- 1:11:30Speaker 12: Shows like this. I'm stereotyping, yes, I know.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: But, again, I'm doing that for the best purpose there,
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: because I'm assuming she's been to a lot of festivals
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: like this, and I just, this one is very well
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: put together and operates well. Better than most things I've
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: been to, I must say.
- 1:11:48Speaker 13: Oh, yeah, definitely. I mean, the organization is very commendable. And,
- 1:11:53Speaker 13: I mean, even last night, like, as we're watching a band,
- 1:11:56Speaker 13: they had people going around picking up garbage. And, like,
- 1:11:58Speaker 13: that's not something that you normally see. You know, normally it's, like,
- 1:12:02Speaker 13: you know, at the end of it.
- 1:12:03Speaker 12: It's just a wasteland of litter. Right, right.
- 1:12:06Speaker 13: And then you have all these people converging, trying to
- 1:12:08Speaker 13: pick up stuff. And they were actually picking up recyclables
- 1:12:11Speaker 13: last night. So you had people, you know... picking up
- 1:12:14Speaker 13: different things and so I don't know I just thought
- 1:12:16Speaker 13: it was I just thought it was kind of cool
- 1:12:18Speaker 13: because you know it's a very nice area to have
- 1:12:22Speaker 13: the festival and they keep it nice just.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: To be this size operation it's yeah it's pretty impressive
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: that it runs as smoothly as.
- 1:12:29Speaker 13: It does well and we were discussing last night too
- 1:12:32Speaker 13: the different kinds of people that that are here I
- 1:12:35Speaker 13: mean there's just such a mix there's not like one
- 1:12:38Speaker 13: certain demographic there's so many different people from so many
- 1:12:42Speaker 13: different walks of life and You know, everybody's able to
- 1:12:44Speaker 13: enjoy themselves.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: I think even a little more diverse than last year.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: I kind of called them out last year for having
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: a bunch of white people. But this year, you know,
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: I've seen even a little more mixture going on. So, yeah,
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: there's old and young and hippies. And there were some
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: goth girls wandering around last night. And there's just a
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: good mixture of all kinds of peoples.
- 1:13:03Speaker 13: Today, I'm noticing a lot of children, too, which.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: It's not always at these kind of festivals.
- 1:13:09Speaker 14: Right.
- 1:13:09Speaker 13: And you don't always want to bring them to these
- 1:13:11Speaker 13: kind of festivals, but... It seems like a pretty safe environment,
- 1:13:14Speaker 13: you know, for kids today.
- 1:13:16Speaker 12: I haven't really seen it being, like, horribly gross.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: I mean, you think about things like, you know, when
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: they brought back the Woodstock Festival and it was nothing but,
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: you know, girls taking their tops off and people getting
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: in fights and people lighting things on fire and rioting
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: and people getting trampled.
- 1:13:34Speaker 12: And, like, this has been, like, such a nice... Again.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: It's out of character for me to be amongst this
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: many happy people, but it's... it's impressive actually to have
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: this many people crammed into a space and not too cramped, obviously,
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: but I don't know. It's amazing how well everybody gets
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: along and how much this is.
- 1:13:55Speaker 12: We're watching these guys climb a tree.
- 1:13:58Speaker 13: Cause they lost their Frisbee very close to the top.
- 1:14:02Speaker 13: It was really funny to watch the progression of events
- 1:14:04Speaker 13: because we're far enough away where we can just kind
- 1:14:07Speaker 13: of watch from afar and And there's a couple sitting
- 1:14:09Speaker 13: underneath enjoying their time. He's a nice button-up kind of guy.
- 1:14:14Speaker 13: Now this guy's scampering up the tree like a lemur.
- 1:14:18Speaker 18: Like a lemur.
- 1:14:19Speaker 13: As soon as the frisbee went in there... Oh, he
- 1:14:21Speaker 13: got it out. But as soon as the frisbee went
- 1:14:24Speaker 13: in there, leaves fell on the guy's head sitting underneath
