- 0:02SPEAKER_03: It said recording.
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: You heard it say recording, right?
- 0:06SPEAKER_03: Indeed, I did.
- 0:08SPEAKER_03: So we're not gonna not record the first 15 minutes of podcast today.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: Hollywood go! I got my space heater on my desk.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: It's already a million degrees in the air.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 0:20SPEAKER_03: It's a huge mistake.
- 0:21SPEAKER_03: And drinking hot cross.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: That's a baby.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Hey, Hollywood Co.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: It's 19 degrees this morning.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: It's crazy to go.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz Conference Championship Week.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, Mike White.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: What is up, dude?
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: How are you doing?
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: I'm okay.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, you can tell my voice, so I apologize.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: I'm a little sick.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Um, the reason I call you a baby is because I've been sick the last several days, and yet I was out last night in 20-degree weather on the streets of Colonial Heights watching a very, very, very mid-parade.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Christmas play?
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Was it Santa Claus make an appearance?
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he did.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: He made an appearance about an hour and a half into the thing.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: An hour and a half in?
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Holy smokes.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was the final float.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: And when I say float, I use that term very loosely.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: It was largely just companies with trailers advertising for themselves and throwing out candy canes.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Um, that's good.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: The kids had a good time, but it uh I'm we're all worse for for it, I think.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: So a lot uh really quick uh housekeeping note.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: Mike and I forgot to hit record yesterday.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: So the first 20 minutes of the podcast um are not uh recorded at all.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: That's my bad, me specifically.
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: Uh today we'll get that right so we'll get the whole show.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: So blame it on the producer.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Blame it on the producer.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, first things first, what's in your cup?
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: What are you drinking this morning?
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: I'm drinking water, man.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Actually, fruit-infused water.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Fruit-infused water.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Is it heated up?
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Maybe a little lemon drops in there, a little tea, a little bit.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: No, I think it's like cucumber basil, cucumber basil lemon or something.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Cucumber basil lemon.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: When I think about the trifecta of um sick drinks, I think about cucumber basil lemon.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Like that's that's that's quite a hit.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: I'm drinking I didn't put it together myself, but it is delicious.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: It does sound does sound delicious.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm drinking uh coffee with cream, which I've learned since our last podcast.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: This is our two podcasts, it's not cafe Americano.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: That's a different thing entirely.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: We were just completely wrong about that.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: This is just black coffee with cream in it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Um, so not Americano.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: It's not black coffee, then it's yeah, well, right, it's not black coffee.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: It's black coffee.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: It's just coffee with cream.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Correct, coffee with cream, but it's also not Americano, which is important to specify because I was clearly wrong about that.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, all right, let's have a quick check until we last hung out.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Um, Thanksgiving, uh Turkey, gobble gobble, stuffing.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, what what's what had it go?
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, nothing much to report.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: That seems like ages ago.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Um until nice weekend.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, uh nothing much to report.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Nobody wants to hear about my long weekend.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm I'm not sick, but I am tired.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: I'm still unless you're still recovering.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, we did um uh Thanksgiving with in-laws in Crozet.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: We had um my family and my wife's sister's family both staying at um Anna's parents' house.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: So we had like two the parents in bedrooms, cribs, uh sleeping bag parade in the living room where I was kind of nervous about like how it's all gonna go, but actually it worked out really well.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: Um, kids all slept.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Cousin time is the best because they just like don't do any screen time, they just play the whole time.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: That's fun.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I think they wore themselves out.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: We put the teenager, the one who sleeps till noon, literally in a closet, and she slept in there.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: So so that worked out pretty well for her, I guess.
- 3:34SPEAKER_03: So, all in all, turkey was great, sleeping worked out more or less.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Um, good to be back, good Thanksgiving.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: And now we're in full Christmas mode.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: So there's that.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, very cool.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Um, let's go ahead and jump into the big picture.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I want to ask you a bunch of questions, and I want to have them answered immediately.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Uh start from the top.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: Uh Mike, go ahead and go ahead and give you a pat in the back.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: One team to go wire to wire undefeated.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Oregon, congratulations.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: You the you correctly predicted that.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Oregon's sitting at finish regular season 12 and oh, only one squad.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: We've been counting down all season.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Mike was dead on with that.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, moving on, we've had uh any any victory speeches you want to take on that call?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: 12 and oh uh no, I I just have to say I'm I'm kind of sad.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: The regular season's over, and normally it's like we're all getting excited for bowl season, but I feel like the playoff has kind of taken a little bit of the heat away from moving into bowl season because it feels like those teams that aren't in the playoff.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Their season's kind of over, and that's what it feels like.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh and it hasn't felt like that in the past as much, and maybe um maybe it's just me.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I'm feeling it, even though my team will be in the playoffs, so it's weird.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: As so as as the as the member of a team or a member of the fan base of a team that's not in the playoff, you are a thousand percent correct.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm more interested in the playoff than I am in the meaningless Texas Bowl, Music City Bowl, whatever it's gonna be the LSU is gonna play in.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna watch it and be excited about it, but I'd be I would be lying to you if I was to say that I was excited about bowl season.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: No, that is a chapter of college football that I think is over.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: And honestly, they're going to expand and change the playoff more.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: So, whatever effect that we are talking about right now, it's probably gonna get worse.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: And that's kind of those upper two tier bowls were were really sweet matchups, usually, and and teams were wanted to play in them and were excited to play in them, you know, those kind of um post-Christmas bowls, you know, those those games were all good, exciting games, and I think a lot of the shine's been taken off that.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Um maybe they'll maybe they'll create better or worse.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, maybe they'll come up with an NIT for college football.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Like all the teams, all the teams that don't like the obviously the top 12 are in the playoff, more or less.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: And then the next 12 create like an NIT tournament.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: I would love that.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: I think that would be sweet.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: I think that's a great idea.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: It'd also be really great for all those guys who need exposure, like all the all the guys who want to opt out, who worry about injury or worry about the draft, they'll they'll leave.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: Fine, so be it.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: It's an NIT tournament anyway.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: The play, the players who are trying to earn time next year get more experience, or the seniors who just need more snaps, get more eyes, like it could be a good resource for them.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: And then whoever wins, like, whatever, you win the game.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: Like, cool.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: And I think so.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: The difference is, you know, the NCAA tournament, you know, so many teams get in, right?
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and even in college football, we know there are really good teams that are missing out on you know you gotta draw the line somewhere, right?
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: And so, like, yeah, these teams that are kind of on that bubble are still very exciting teams to watch.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: I think it would be great TV.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: I think it would, it would people would tune in for it, and I think that the kids would love to play in it.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: I think it would be good exposure, it would bring in dollars.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: I think I think it's a great idea, actually.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Maybe there might be some, maybe there might be a nugget there.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Maybe something hold on.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: We already see some opt-outs already.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Luther Burden is a high, is uh probably a first round wide receiver from Missouri.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: He's opted out.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Will Campbell, uh off LSU's left left tackle, probably the number one, number two off the tackle on the board.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: He's opted out.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: So, like, we're gonna see that happen, but there's still a lot of guys who want to play, so maybe we're gonna be there.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: So, opt-out seasons also begun with the transfer season, also transfer seasons.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Also, the early signing day um is is today.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: So, we're seeing teams restock their rosters with the early high school kids.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: So, a lot of changing.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: This is a crazy week for college football, a lot happening.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Um, we've also seen some jobs open.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: UNC will not bring Mac Brown back, which I think we talked about last week.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, Dabo and Kirby, the only two coaches in college football, active college football who've won national championship, which is just crazy.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: 134 teams, only two of them still around.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: UCF is now open.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Um, Gus Malzan has resigned and has taken the Florida State offensive coordinator job, which is really interesting to me.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Um, West Virginia filed near Brown, which I think we've been talking about for weeks.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: We all finally have it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Finally did.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: I think we talked about that a bunch last year.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: That was I think that that was a pretty popular prediction for who is going to be the first coach fired when we talked about that in August.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: So, anyway, he was not able to um avoid the Grim Reaper of couchball firings, and he's now unemployed.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: And lastly, Purdue did fire Ryan Walters um after uh the aid.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: There's a situation with the AD, not wanting to have a lame duck coach, but it turns out it turns out they have moved on as well.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: So you got four coaches.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Purdue is the worst team in power five.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Either them or Florida State, yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: I would lose, got the brakes beat off them by everybody.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but at least when you look at Florida State, they've got some talent on the roster.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I saw a um I saw a statistic on Twitter.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: If you gave Purdue a 34-point uh lead in every game, they'd be six and six.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: So even with a massive head start, they're still scrapping for bowl eligibility, which is not great.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Um, Mike, I got a question for you.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: UNC, WVU, UCF, Purdue.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Rate those jobs.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: You're a you're a brimming G5 coach, you're an outstanding coordinator at the NFL or a P4 job.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: What is the most appealing job and what is the least appealing job of those four?
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Give me a give me a rate those real quick.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: North Carolina definitely is my number one.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Uh they've got the right in the center of a heavy recruiting area, uh, the well-positioned in the ACC to do some damage right away.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, I definitely like, I think, I think that's the number one for me.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: Um, after that, I don't know.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: I've always had kind of a soft spot for Purdue.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Um, I think that recruiting is really tough there.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: They're in a really tough spot there.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Um, so you know, maybe I pick Purdue just because I kind of like the boilers, but um I don't know.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: That's my take.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: UNC is the clear number one, though.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: So I would go UNC one.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Um, um, I would say West Virginia four, because I think West Virginia is the hardest to get to.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: I think they don't have a ton of cash.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: Um, and so I think West Virginia is the hardest.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: UCF and Purdue, you could kind of give a flip-flop.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think or I think people like playing Orlando.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: You want to talk about recruit recruiting fertile recruiting grounds, Orlando, Central Florida is that for sure.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: Um, Purdue could be really good.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: It's gotten a lot harder, obviously, with Notre Dame being who they always were.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: And now Indiana, they have two in-state superpowers uh to compete with.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: However, of those four schools, Purdue is the only one getting big, big money.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: You know, they're only on the one of the four and one of the big two, the SEC and the Big Ten.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: So their football team is despite being abysmal, they're making$90 million a year.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Now we have to see them start to invest that.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: You know, the last cycle, Purdue let its best two players walk.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Deion Burks, the receiver, went to Oklahoma, and Nick Scorton, the outstanding uh defensive tackle, went to um Texas AM.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: So they've already their NIL is not where it needs to be.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: But of those four, Purdue is the only one in the right conference.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: So that's that's something.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: Um but we'll see.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: Does I mean with revenue change with revenue change coming?
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Uh I I like UNC, it's the brand.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: Uh North Carolina is an underrated in terms of recruiting area.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Um, it's got a huge fan base, and so I think I agree that UNC is probably the best.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Central Florida were in a different conference.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: That would be my number one.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: I think so too.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: I think so too.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: It's because they've got they can recruit just the area around them, bring in great talent.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: They've shown some uh a track record of winning recently, yep, uh, and and done it at a high level.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, they can make waves, you know, they've got a good program.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: It's just, you know, which conference do I want to go to?
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Not the American.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: And you uh and you yeah, UCF also has an awesome stadium, um, which is which is which which is in their favor as well.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: So uh, but we will see.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: We're probably not at the end of uh jobs.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: Uh speaking of which, uh, should we talk about well?
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Let's let's wait for that.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Uh G5, really quick, down to Boise UNLV, right?
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: That's the playoff spot.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Is there any chance for a Tulane Army sneaking in backdoor, or is the is the Boise UNLV Mountain West title game a play-in for the playoff?
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: No, I think it's definitely a play in for the playoff.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: When you look at the rankings, um, I don't see with where Boise is.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: Um, and obviously they win, they're in.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: Um I don't see how Army could make the jump.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: UNLV wins their.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, it's it's pretty boilerplate at this point.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: The the committee's told us where they think everything's gonna shake out.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: So yep.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, let's talk a bit more about the playoff.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Um, so let's assume SMU wins the ACC and they take down Clemson in the ACC final.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: That will leave an at-large spot open.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Clemson will be way too far back.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: Probably a three-loss SCTC team, probably one of the three of Ole Miss, Alabama, South Carolina.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: Who do you think they will give it to you?
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: Who do you think maybe they should give it to?
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: Or is it the same team?
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: So I've got several wrinkles that I want to throw at you for that.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: Please.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: They've already told us that the answer is Bama.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: If things go that way, the answer is going to be uh the answer's gonna be Bama if SMU wins because Clemson's already on the outside looking in.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: The interesting part is if Clemson wins, they get the automatic bid, right?
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: So what do they do with SMU?
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Then it's SMU versus Bama.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: And they've, you know, right now SMU's sitting at eight, so how far do they drop them?
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Um, I I kind of like SMU to get that last spot.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think it makes sense to me, but they just showed us when they compared Bama and Miami, they put Miami one spot behind Bama.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: So does SMU get the Miami treatment?
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: And does Bama get that kind of brand recognition bias?
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: So no name that they've just given them.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: So I have a strong opinion about this.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: The what the committee cannot do is disincentivize the conference champions.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: There is no world where an 11-1 SMU, let's say for some reason tiebreakers went a different way and Clemson and Miami were playing for the ACC title, and SMU was saying they're 11-1 not playing.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: Similar situation to what Tennessee is in.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: There is no world where they wouldn't make the playoffs just not playing.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: So if SMU goes and loses, they cannot be punished.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: They should not be punished for losing.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: In which case, I've got an 11-2 SMU going in over Alabama.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I think it's that I think that last spot is either Alabama or SMU, assuming Clemson wins.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Uh SMU wins, Clemson's out, Alabama takes it.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Because I mean that's they can't do that.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: They cannot possibly reasonably make that punishment clear.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Um, also, SMU is just an excellent team.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: They've had an excellent season.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: Kevin Jennings right last year done a fantastic job.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: They're only lost against BYU.
- 14:36SPEAKER_03: Pretty darn good team, frankly.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Um, so um I got yeah, I got SMU in that situation as well.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Um, all of us, all of us rooting for Alabama to be pushed out of the playoff.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: We're really rooting for a Clemson uh Clemson win in the ACC.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: And that's probably the biggest shakeup that we'll see because the rest of this is really just going to be seeding.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, you're you're talking about not punishing.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: There will be a little bit of movement because the games do matter.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: So I think, you know, it's another point of calculation, another point of statistics.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Um, so you'll see a maybe a little change, but I don't think it'll be a lot.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: You know, I think it'll be Texas and Georgia switch places, something like that.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: You know, Penn State drops one or two, whatever.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: A little bit of wiggle.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: One more thing I'll say.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: I don't actually think Bama's better than uh Ole Miss.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: I think Ole Miss is totally getting jobs.
- 15:30SPEAKER_03: If you if you were put if you put Ole Miss and Alabama in a neutral site game next week, I would pick Ole Miss.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: I think what I think they're just a better team.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: I think Ole Miss would have the answers for uh Jalen Milrose mobility and run and their run game.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: And if they can't do that, they don't have enough deep shots to Ryan Williams to overcome that Ole Miss offense.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: I think Ole Miss is just a better team.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: I kind of think they're getting a little jobbed here.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: That might be where the brand name kicks in.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: Um, it's not necessarily an Alabama over an SMU, it's an Alabama over Ole Miss or South Carolina, which I think is what's really truly biting them.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Well, and South Carolina has made a lot of headlines recently and they've looked really good.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: But when you're comparing them to an Alabama or an Ole Miss, they lost both of those games.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: They did.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Like, I get it.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: They're fun to talk about, they're right on the edge looking in.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: They lost them.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, when head to head matters, the resumes are similar.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: You lost those games, and we're not talking about one versus one, they lost to both of those teams.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: So, like, which teams do I want to play?
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: I'd rather, I'd rather play Bama right now than South Carolina or Old Miss.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: But all but South Carolina, statistically speaking, based on the records, should not be in.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and the Ole Miss game was awful.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: They lost by 30.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, it wasn't, it was a it was a it was a beatdown.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: So and I think it I think I think that game was in Columbia too.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: I think that game was in.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: So anyway, so anyway, enough about that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's talk about your team really quickly.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: So Tennessee is sitting right now with the seven, they are right in the thick of it.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we have one more.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: We all there are there are a lot of games that matter.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: A lot of playoff teams are going to play this week, Tennessee not being one of them, but they're going there, I think you're gonna see a little bit of wiggle.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: Give me, and I'm sure you've played out all of scenarios in your head and message boards a million times.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: Give me your best case realistic scenario for Tennessee football in the playoffs, and your worst case, really don't want to see this uh situation for Tennessee in the playoffs.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: You know, there's not too much of a worse case than where we're sitting right now to be in.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: I think as far as the the seating and the draw, um, going to Ohio State and playing, you know, in that stadium in 20 degree weather.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: And then if you win that, you get Oregon, the best team in the country at the number one spot.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: You know, when you look at the current draw, if things let's they're not gonna stay exactly the same, but if they were, Bama is currently sitting at the 11th spot, the 12th seed, and they play at Arizona State in the warmth, and then they play the the G5, right?
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: They can then they've got boys ELV.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Like, who doesn't want that draw?
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Anybody, anybody on the slate would take that.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: Anyone, yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: So I don't quite, I think, you know, things are still gonna what's a realistic scenario?
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, could is there any way Tennessee, in your mind, Tennessee could host a game?
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Could they get to the could to they could they get to an eight seed?
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Okay, don't.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: Um the everyone's kind of rooting for chaos because nobody knows what is going to happen.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: That's what I'd be cheering forward to.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I think there's still a shot.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: Like, so I think with Penn State's lack of a strength of schedule, they're sitting at three right now.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: They have no good wins.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: If they got absolutely obliterated, they could fall.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: But any of the teams ahead, you know, you can't like you said, you can't you can only punish a team in the conference championship so much.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: So a really, really bad loss, you know, maybe you drop them three spots, maybe you drop them four.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that looks like, you know.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And the same with Georgia.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Like that may be a scenario.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: If if Texas beats down Georgia and Georgia takes their third loss, they would only need to drop two spots right behind Tennessee.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: I could see that happening.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: That's that's in the realm.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: The the the Penn State one you get to sell me off, so that's a long drop for a game we're not supposed to punish people for.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: But then you're looking at that, then you'd be looking at a third three loss Georgia.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: I could see a world where the committee puts them below Tennessee.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: And then Tennessee does host a game.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: It might be against Georgia, it might be them coming to Knoxville, but I think Well, that's the other piece.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: That's the other thing that we're, you know, we're looking at this in a vacuum.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: We're not looking at it like, oh, do we need to avoid head-to-heads uh rematches in the first rounds?
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: You know, we're not looking at um, oh crap, we ended up with two Big Ten teams and uh and two SEC teams facing off in the first round.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Um, the committee will absolutely look at that, and that will absolutely, you know, dictate some of their decision making if it hasn't already.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: So you're thinking you're probably going to Columbus.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's kind of what you've okay.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that's my thought.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: I think it's pretty well, I think most of this is pretty well set.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: Okay, and but outside shot Knoxville, you'd rather play in Knoxville, doesn't matter who the opponent is, whether it's George, would you just I'll ask.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: Would you rather play in the Know Any team in Knoxville?
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Any team in Knoxville versus going to Columbus.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's what I would say too.
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Well, what's all might be moot in seven days, so let's go ahead and uh move on.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: But any other playoff thoughts that you really want to.
- 21:13SPEAKER_03: I'm not, I'll be honest with you, I'm not paying super close attention to this because it keeps changing every week.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: And next week it's set in stone.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Then I'll have lots of opinions, but I don't have much a week out.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: Do you want to uh go ahead?
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: I think my I think my biggest takeaway, and that one of the things that we're seeing play out with with some of the absurdity is you have to do away with the guaranteed automatic buys for the conference champions.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: I think you use the conference championship as another game, uh, another value point.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: And if some of those teams end up, you know, you know, you're one, two, three, four, great.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: But you still need some of the wiggle room to allow you to make some of those changes.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: I think Boise State with the schedule that they've got, um, getting a first round buy and being an automatic top four team is ridiculous with their schedule.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: I love Boise.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: We've been on the Boise train all year long.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but there's no way that they should be guaranteed that spot.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: No, I actually I think this format is doomed.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: Um, it was a good first try.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: It's it's like a it's like a rough draft.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Um, I think they I what what I think the flaw was giving them the automatic buys.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: I think automatic bids, I do believe if you win your conference, I don't care if you're eight and four, if you somehow back your way in the conference championship and you win the conference, that should mean something.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: You should get an automatic.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: Birth should it be an automatic by de facto of being uh you know maybe I mean in that position in that not say if if Clemson if UNLV or Clemson win their conference championships, they still might be power rated outside the top 12.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: But I mean, well, the Mountain West is a different argument.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Clemson's the argument here.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: If Clemson or Iowa State 16, if one of those teams wins their power four conferences, there's a world where they're they don't climb enough to 12.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: I think they should get automatic births.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: I do not think I agree with you.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: Automatic bids, like that's the for the one automatic buys, that's no good.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: I think that's gotta go.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: We're gonna see the Big 12 and the Big Ten, the SEC, they run this sport, they're going to change it.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: It's coming.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: I think 14 teams is gonna be coming here, probably year after next as well.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: So you're looking at two two buys, and you know, so change, I think, is coming.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: This is a good first draft.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: I think it's an improvement over the four that we had the last 10 years, but I think it's not gonna, I think it's not gonna last.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Um, anything else on the playoff rankings before we move on?
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: This has been good for the sport.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Uh I do because it's it's made it's made game, it's made a it's made me more interested in G five games down the stretch, G5 championships down the stretch.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: Um, it's made last week's Big 12, you know, cluster with all four of those six and two teams fighting was very interested.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Um, the uh Miami Syracuse game, which we're gonna talk about, was uh wildly important.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: So it has the I usually mostly usually in November there are 10 teams who still care, eight teams who still care.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Now we've got uh 20.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: So I I recognize the dread the downside, like the bowl season, the bowl season's over.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, the going to going to the Pop Tarts bowl is fun, but it's it's it's it's moot.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Um, it has some downsides, but in general, I think it's I think yes, I think it's gotten better.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I agree with you.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I think it's been it's been a lot of fun these last few weeks, especially.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: The chaos has been, I mean, that's been helpful as well.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: We've also had probably more chaos than we've ever had in the in the last few years.
- 24:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Um, but I I do st I I do still think that there are ramifications and and additional things trickle down from this playoff that we still haven't seen and that we'll still feel.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: So uh overall, though, I think it's been good this year.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's also helped, I mean the transport of NIL, say what you will, it's not perfect.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: It's also flat in the top a lot.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't think it's a coincidence that the best teams are all vulnerable.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: It's only been one year, so sample sizes, any any take on a sample size of one, it's probably a bad one.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna tread lightly here.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: But we might see the next 10, 20 years of a lot of chaos every year.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Like that it might look more like the NFL in terms of like that level of parity, which I think isn't the worst thing.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: So it'll be interesting to see if every year looks like this.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: If every year looks like this, this has been a wildly entertaining year of college football.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: So that would be a net positive for sure.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: So, but we'll just have to say that's been a really fun year, and I agree with you there.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: One thing that I do want to be careful of, because you hear this a lot, is looking like the NFL.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: I don't want college football to look like the NFL.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love college football for so many reasons that don't that the NFL does not give me and and doesn't have and will never have.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: And so trying to model it to the NFL is a mistake.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: And I'm not saying that we are, but but you hear that a lot.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: You do hear that a lot.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: And and I think the powers involved look at that model as like the winning model.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I wish I had you're you're totally right.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: And I took fair point, totally agree.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: And I wish I hadn't said NFL.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Any sport with more parody, just major league baseball has been a lot of has had a lot of parody recently.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: The NBA has even seen some uncharacteristic parody.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: NHL is notoriously because it's so hard to get hot in hockey.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Any sport, um, it's not in that respect, I don't necessarily mean the NFL, but uh no, point taken, college football is unique and interesting and has character, and every year we kind of lose a little bit of that.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: So holding on to that is very important.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: I think your point is well said.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Um, so really quickly, I want to tease.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: So, one of the favorite my favorite episodes we do is when we go back and look at um bold predictions of what Mike and I did back in August.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: Um, so we're gonna do that later this month, and we'll have a whole episode just kind of unpacking and just dunking on each other for all of our bad and takes.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: So I just want to kind of tease that a little bit, this one.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: Mike, the uh current top four in the Big 12, which is oh, as we talked about, the most predictably unpredictable contents.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Current top four, Colorado, BYU, Arizona State, Iowa State.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: None of those top, those four schools were odds-on favorites to win the Big 12 in August.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Can you tell me from memory who were the four teams favored to win the Big 12 in August?
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Uh, I know Kansas State was there.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's one.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Um, Oklahoma State.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: And Utah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Forgot about Utah, right?
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we love Utah.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Utah and last one stopped.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: Baylor, no, not Baylor.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: Uh Texas Tech.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Kansas, Kansas.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Not bad.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Three out of four, pretty good.
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Kansas went five and seven.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Okey state went uh three and nine.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Uh Kansas State was okay.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: And Kansas State was just kind of just outside.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: They finished, I think, eight and four, and Utah was five and seven.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Like, not only were they like not favored, they they finished, they all bombed.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: So Big 12 was an implosion.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: And I I think you and I, the Big 12 is the worst of those conference predictions, but just just for our listeners, that's coming.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: We're gonna get a chance to unpack that.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: And you're gonna just remember how different the world looked in August to December.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: The difference is just so stark and just so fun to pick apart.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: So wasn't the Colorado win win over under at like six, too?
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: Yes, making there for them was making a bowl, and they finished nine and three.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: So they obviously well they had a chit had a chance at playoffs.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: That Kansas game is what bit them, but um, yeah, big improvement for them.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, cool.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: Let's uh let's talk quickly about um um let's do a quick autopsy of last week.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: Uh looking at the last week of football, uh, tough week for flagpoles.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, we had three different chances, three different chances for teams to plant the full their their flagpoles into a field.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Uh UNC NC State, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: None of the flagpoles made it into the ground.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, I guess people all forgot that uh you can't stub a blunt pole into a rug.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, so it didn't work out.
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, but just want to say uh tough week for uh flagpoles.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: Great week for rivalry week, though.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, that was a very fun weekend of college football.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Very fun weekend.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: Uh quick, I'll start with the big one, Ohio State, Michigan, which I actually think is going to be the game that defines this year.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: More than the northern, more than the northern Illinois Notre Dame game.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: And then maybe some playoff game will change that.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: But that game doesn't matter anymore.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: The worst loss of the season at all.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: They're a top three team.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: Notre Dame is a top three team now.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Um, but the most memorable game of the regular season by far, I think, is going to be the Michigan-Ohio State game.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: Hot take, maybe not so hot anymore.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: Ryan Day is a bad coach, it gets and he gets glossed over by having the superior talent everywhere and their win record against everybody against every team that matters.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: I don't think you can find a single coach in college football that has done less with more, like it just nobody's done it.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: Um, I cannot believe they broke broke pepper spray and to to that's unbelievable.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: I've never seen that in a wild, yeah.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Absolutely wild.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Um, less mild.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: They did not mess around.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: They didn't they were not messing around.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: So everyone knows what happened.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Uh 21-point favorites.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Uh Brian did we could we could we could spend a whole episode just breaking down that game, but we're not going to.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: One question for you, for your thoughts.
- 30:33SPEAKER_03: I think you and I both agree that um uh Ryan Day is on the hot seat, his buyout is$36 million, which for a school that paid$20 million for the roster is not a big deal.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: That's they'll pay that if they need to.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: If he wins, uh if he wins zero playoff games, like if he loses that opener to uh to your vols in Columbus, he's fired.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: If he runs the table, wins all four, wins the national championship, they're bringing him back.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: You're never gonna fire a national championship winning uh coach, you're just not gonna do it.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: How many games?
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: What's the sweet spot?
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Zero, definitely fired, four, definitely keeping his job.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: How many playoff games does Ryan Day have to win to keep his job next year?
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: Well, I can't answer that.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: You can come on, why not?
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: I don't think I don't think he gets fired if he loses game one.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: I think next year, yeah, I think he's there next year.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: So right now they're saying they're right now they're uh the fan duel odds are like I I went ahead and peaked they kind of gave uh point spreads for hypotheticals.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: The Vols are like an eight-point, nine-point dog in Columbus.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: If he loses that game after losing the worst game of his career, there's no chance he's brought back.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: There's no way he's brought back.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Here's the thing, though, and I know we're going off the question, but and I know that game matters, right?
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: It's a rivalry game, that game matters.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Ohio State always wants to be Michigan.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: We're in a row, dude.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: But here's the thing they're still in the college football playoff.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: Yes, for all intents and purposes, that game didn't matter.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: It didn't happen.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: They dropped a couple spots and they're hosting a football game in the college football playoff.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: That does it, there's zero consequence to that game in my mind, other than your fan base not being a rival.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: So so okay, so to answer this question, you say it's zero.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: You're saying zero games.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: If he loses the if he loses to to your vols, nine-point favorites at home in the shoe, he's brought back in 2025.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, I strongly disagree.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: So I think he has to win two games.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: I think if I think if he gets himself to go ahead.
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'll go for that.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: I think he has to get by your vals, and I think he has to get to and that point, then he's the oh, he would be the eight seed.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: Okay, one.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: He has to win one game.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Because then losing to Oregon in uh the the best team in the country, but that's that's reasonable.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: He cannot lose.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: If he gets a home playoff game and he is close to a double-digit favorite and he loses again, he's done.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: He's cooked, he's out.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: If he wins that, loses to uh loses to Oregon the playoff, I can see a world where he gets back.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: If I'm off base and I may be, it's Natty or bust.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: If if if that's the where the fan base is and that's where the administration is, then it doesn't matter.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: It one one playoff game won't matter.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Okay, now you're talking about now you're saying both things.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: You said a second ago, zero games he's in.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: What's now you're saying he has for the national championship to get out get broadcast?
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: You asked me what I think.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: Okay, fine.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: What do you think will happen?
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: Okay, fine.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: If I'm not saying you're the AD, but like predict if he loses to your balls, will you will he be fired?
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think so.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think you fire a guy who continually puts you in a position to win a national championship.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: So he's the new James Franklin.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: So he's the that's good enough for the Ohio State people, the people of Ohio State.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Not saying it's good enough, but tell me who you are going to find that's going to step in and immediately take you over the house.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Who's the proven guy who's gonna step in?
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Who's the national?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Who's the are they bringing Urban Meyer back?
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: Because then now I'm listening.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Uh they one, that fan base would gladly take Urban Meyer back.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: Uh I mean, if I mean he's probably the first phone call.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know, but with a Ohio State is like you can count on one-hand jobs that are better.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Like there just aren't that many college football jobs that are better.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, I think there's somebody out there who would take it.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Somebody who would they'd pluck somebody from a other school.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: I don't like you know, Kenny Dillingham has quickly become a hot coach.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: Every cycle, there's somebody.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't I don't think there's I just you can't lose to Michigan four times, especially as things my favorite.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: I think the more realistic thing that you see happen is you see a lot of staff turnover.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Jim Knowles and Chip Kelly are two of the best coordinators in the country.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: Who's getting fired?
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Those guys, those guys are awesome.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: I think I would need to look at the numbers, but um, yeah, they didn't have a very good offensive game plan against Michigan.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they sure didn't.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: All right, enough about Ohio State, Michigan.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: Let's move on.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, South Carolina, uh, they are going to compete for the SE.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: I don't they're gonna get stubbed this year, sitting at 9 and 3.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be sitting in the outside playoffs, but they are coming back, they're gonna be really strong uh going next year.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: Really impressed with their win against Clemson.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Lenora Sellers is just a joy to watch.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: That dude is a running back who can throw the ball.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: Tell me a better player.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Here's really raw talent.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: Really raw talent.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: Here's a question.
- 35:28SPEAKER_03: So, Mike, you're you are it's it's 2025, summer 2025.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: For some reason, you have all the time in the world, you don't have kids, and you've got a brand new PlayStation 5 in front of you, and you just opened up EA Sports 25.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: Can you who is going to be more fun to play that game with than Lenora Sellers?
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: I think I think you're painting a pretty a pretty nice little picture for me uh sitting around uh twiddling my thumbs.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: Twittling your thumbs, nothing to do.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, Nico's I mean Nico is gonna be a lot of fun to play next year, really fast quarterback.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: But any, you know, think about playing those video games with like Mike Vick or any just really Tim Tebow, any really fast, powerful quarterback.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: I think Loris Sellers is going to be the MVP of the next white of that video game.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Uh very cool.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Um, Tulane uh had a chance outside playoffs.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: They blew it to Memphis as 14-point favorites.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, that's tough.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: Um AAC's chances kind of went up the flames with them.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: Bummer about uh the roll wave.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they looked really good all year long.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: They were kind of looming, you know, hanging in the background.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Um, and they were right there until a bad loss.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: Seth Hennigan uh and that uh Memphis passing attack.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: I well, what we didn't realize was how vulnerable Tulane's uh pass defense was, and Seth Hennigan and those guys picked them apart.
- 36:42SPEAKER_03: So kudos to them on a nice uh end of a season win.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Uh Miami, Syracuse.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: Um, dude, who is who is living life better than Kyle McCord right now?
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: Kyle Cord, biggest win for Syracuse in a decade, uh, knocked off a top 10 team in in Miami at home, being down 21-0.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Kyle McCord, same quarterback who Ohio State said you're not good enough to play here.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Man, they could have really used his services last week against Michigan.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: Um, is anybody who is who is having a better who had a better Saturday than Kyle McCord?
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you make a good point.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: Um, huge win.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Sarah Hughes quietly put together a really, really good season.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: Um Kyle McCord put himself as the leading passer in college football.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, wrapped up a great year.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: On the other side of the coin, Mario Christopher continues to make incredible blunders, four minutes left, down by seven, opts for a field goal.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Not only did he opt for a field goal, he waited 30 seconds before he did it.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: His defense had already given up 35 points at that point or a 42, give up a bajillion points, couldn't stop anybody.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: He continues to prove that he is the worst game day coach in college football by a mile.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: I can't believe he did it again.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: So you mentioned Ryan Day doing less with more talent.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Listen to this stat about Mario Cristobal.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Since 2022, no team has lost more games as a double digit favorite than Miami.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: They've lost five, four and nine in November and December, two and two this year, after a nine and oh start.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Not great, Mr.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: Crystal Ball.
- 38:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I'll do it for you.
- 38:19SPEAKER_03: Um, impressive season for the Buffs.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: We talked about it quickly.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, nine and three absolutely crushed Oklahoma State, 52 to nothing.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: If it weren't for Florida State, and Florida State being the absolute collapse that it was, we would be talking about Oklahoma State going 0 and 9 in Big 12, which is not a great high talent football conference.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: They had a Heisman Caliber running back.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: They brought back 21 of 22 starters.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: They went night, they won nine or 10 games last year.
- 38:45SPEAKER_03: Just unbelievable woof out of the Oklahoma State collapse.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: Thank God that Florida State took all that attention away from that.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what's going on in that locker room?
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: That's what I want to know.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Because Gundy has shown that he can coach.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Ollie Gordon has shown that he can run.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, even just those two elements alone with returning some offensive linemen, like should get you to six, seven wins.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Like you, like, I don't understand.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: I don't I really don't.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: It's an interesting, I'd love to see them play Purdue and see.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: That'd be my bowl game that I want to see.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Uh Notre Dame uh goes to Southern Cal and gets a nice win.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: They had 199 yards in two pick sixes.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: Um, my takeaway from this game was that uh Notre Dame is really susceptible to a good passing attack.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: Um, USC is flawed, deeply flawed, barely bull eligible squad, and they threw the ball all over them.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: Uh then I think they called that back shoulder pass fade maybe a thousand times, and it worked 999 times.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: That was a that was a game.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: That was the game was hanging in the balance at the end of the game and driving to, I think it was to tie.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: They throw pick six uh on a questionable jersey tug.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Receiver falls down, pick six the other way.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, fine.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: All we got to do now, score a touchdown, onside kick.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: They drive all the way down the field again, pick six in the end zone this time.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: One was on the goal line, the other was in the end zone.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: This game was so much closer than the score indicated.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: What all my major takeaway from this is file this in the notes of Notre Dame's in the playoffs because when they play a good passing attack, I'm that's the game I'm fading Notre Dame because I really don't know.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: You know who has a really good passing attack?
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: Northern Illinois.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: Who knew?
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Uh go Husky.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Go Mac, go Huskies.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: Um, Texas, Texas's defense and their run game with their Joe Moore finals offensive line might take them to a title.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: I was very impressed with what they did in college station.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: So many third and fourth down stops.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: Um, obviously they lost those two first rounders in the middle, Byron Sweat, Byron Murphy and uh Sweat and Murphy.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Um, they don't have any problems in the trenches.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, just really, really physical, well-built team on both both sides of the ball.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm I'm bullish on Texas.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: That was never a game.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: No, I know the score said it was, but AM lived on the back of like two or three kind of fluky plays.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Texas controlled and dominated that game from start to finish.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Um, anything else before we talk about the homers, really quick?
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: That's really my only, I mean so many other games, but it's so long ago.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's keep going.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Well, I think we should mention the Georgia Tech Georgia, clean old fashioned hate eight overtimes.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Eight overtimes.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: We s I say this every time there's an overtime.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: We got to change the rules, man.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: This coin, this this two-point conversion back and forth overtime is so silly and dumb.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: It's like you play this knockdown drag out, fantastic football game, and then you're like, let's flip a coin.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Is everyone cool with that?
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: Let's just flip a coin and we'll we'll do two-point conversions.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: I hate it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: You're it's it's flawed.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: It doesn't work, it's not football.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: It's a weird thing to end football.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know what the solution is.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I'm with some.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: So they're pountless better solutions.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: Line them up from the 35-yard line, let them do it three or four times.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: There's so I guarantee you it'll be quicker, better.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: Everything will be one thing.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: One thing I did say was somebody said instead of keeping them in field goal range, put them at the 50-yard line and only give them two minutes.
- 42:31SPEAKER_03: So it's they so it has to and like the two-minute drill.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a two-minute drill, they get one time out.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: They have to fight their way to get to field goal range, make that field goal, or score a touchdown.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: I one person said, I really like that idea.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: As long as you do that twice, so that it's not an a significant advantage for the team with the ball last because then they can just pick a field goal.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I'm not even I'm fine with just no extra points.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: You have to run a two-point conversion.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Start it from the 40 or whatever, and then no extra points.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: And that those are the rules.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Two two minutes to score, no extra points.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: I don't hate that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: I get behind that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: So, but we'll talk more about that.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: That's uh kind of offseason chatter.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: Anything, um, oh you know, well, I'll say one thing.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: So Georgia's been this team I've had this love-hate relationship with.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: They were obviously my pick in August for the Heisman National Championship, SEC winner, all those things.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: They're there.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously not Carson Beck's not winning the Heisman, Travis Hunter is, but they're there, they're in Atlanta again, and they're in the playoffs again.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: So we'll see.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: But I'm my confidence they are just a Jekyll and Hyde, never know who's gonna show up.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, kudos to Haynes King and Georgia Tech, Brent Pry.
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: They're that the the Hornets Nest uh that was the game was asking in Athens, but Bobby Dad, that stadium, that team, uh bullish on Georgia Tech.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Uh kudos to them.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: King is a baller, but he is a beast.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: But yeah, um that game played out exactly the way Georgia Tech could have scripted it to win it.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, they played they play executed so well, but um, yeah, it was just a great game plan, great coaching, uh, really good game.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: And an eight or we're talking about eight overtimes, like they needed one play to go different like nine times.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: Like they were that is as close as you can get to winning a game without winning it.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, Georgia Tech, kudos to you guys.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: Um, nice little year for you guys to have.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: Um, okay, you want to move to the homers?
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: All right, let's do it.
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, nice bounce back for the Vols.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, obviously, start out.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: Hey, here's a hot take.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: It is a good thing to give up an opening kickoff special teams touchdown because now the Tennessee coaching can light.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: Fire under the special teams and fix those breakdowns.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Um, that guy wasn't even touched.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: It wasn't like he did some wild spin move, split the defense, split four guys.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: He was just wide open.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: He just he caught the ball and ran for touchdowns.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: So now Tennessee special teams coach has a chip on his shoulder, which is a good time to have a chip on your shoulder.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: That's my hot take.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: It's a good thing, it's a good thing you gave that up.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: It's not a good take.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: Our special teams have been lights out all year.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: That's only like the fourth kick return that our kicker has even allowed.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: So it's just a breakdown.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I mean, it was a good game.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, it started off horrifically, like you mentioned.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Um, opening kickoff back, two plays later, fumble in the red zone.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Bandy punches it in, 14-0, and then the balls just dominated, completely took over the rest of the game.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Wasn't, I mean, they got a late fourth quarter touchdown drive um to to put some nice niceties on it.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, it was a domination.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: It was a good game.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: Good game by Nico, good bounce back.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Dylan Sampson had like 140 yards.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I'm I gotta ask.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: So eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, and Tennessee kicks a field goal to make it a three-score game.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: I think at that point it was a 19-point game.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: So three scores.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Did you have a little celebration like in your mind, like in your heart, that you were like, oh my God, my team is going to the playoffs?
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Like, is that was there a moment in that game where like you knew it?
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, obviously came out at halftime.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: Gang bus was exactly like you said.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: You probably the game was it looked exactly the way you want to look.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Your team responded exactly what you responded, but was there a moment for me?
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: That was the moment for you.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: It was like, oh my god, here they are.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: They're going, they're in, their tickets punched.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: Was there a moment in that game where you just the way that our defense responded?
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: Um, they only moved, I think they only picked up one third down conversion um after their first couple drives.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: So once we got up two scores, I kind of knew it just felt you know like the game was over.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: Um, and so yeah, then I kind of started feeling good.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: Um I'm jealous.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: It wasn't there was never a like it was like a it wasn't like an oh my god moment.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: It was kind of like watching the ball slowly roll down a hill.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: You were like, as it picks up momentum, you're like, okay, it's gone.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: Awesome, awesome, awesome.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: Tennessee is going to the playoffs.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: That rules.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, real quick, we'll talk about LSU.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, actually, their best game all year.
- 47:04SPEAKER_03: Complete performance.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: Um, absolutely dominated a pretty talented Oklahoma squad, especially on defense.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: That defense is good, and we hung 37 points on them.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Um, Garrett Nussmeyer's best game, offensive lines, probably best game, at least running the ball, which has been a flaw all year.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: Um, so one of the big stories was came out uh obviously in the Florida game was this just jawing that uh Brian Kelly gave wide receiver Chris Hilton.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: You know, who do you think you are?
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: You can't coach here.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Chris Hilton had his finally, after suffering injuries and timing and all these issues, finally had his coming out party, caught two passes for 90 yards, two touchdowns, both of which were 40-yard touchdown bombs.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: The funny thing was, so they were in his face about jumping too early.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: If you go back and watch the highlights in the AM game, the Florida game, he was his timing was off.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: He was just jumping after deep balls, just he shouldn't have been jumping at.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: Um, the first one, he did in fact jump, but it was kind of a back shoulder situation.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: He used himself to kind of shield the ball.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: It was a good one and to protect kind of to block out the defensive back.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: Good call, brought it down a touchdown.
- 48:06SPEAKER_03: Second one ran through it back to the end zone, caught the ball.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: So big time coming out party.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Chris Hilton was supposed to be our deep threat all year, and you saw that in the Oklahoma game.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: It finally he was fast as hell, can beat guys, just he was hurt, didn't work out.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: It's intriguing to see what with him coming back next year and Garrett Nasmar coming back, which we've LSU seemed to think will happen.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: It's intriguing to see what this team would look like if we had him like that all year, and two going to 2025, if that connection can um, because if we if you have a real deep threat, if you have a Jalen Hyatt, if you have a Brian Thomas, Malik Neighbors, Cedric Tillum, guys that can absolutely top off a defense, it changes things.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: And um, so optimistic about that.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Nice win by LSU.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: Eight and four is not where we wanted to be, but you know, uh eight and four.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Here we are.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Feeling a little better in Tiger Land.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: Two wins, two SEC wins will do that.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: Taking care of Vanderbilt and taking Oklahoma is a decent way to um, and now it's you know, recruiting season.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: Let's get some transfer portals, let's get some recruits, get our NIL figured out, and kind of keep going from there.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, Commonwealth Cup.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: Uh Virginia Tech gets the win.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Miserable end.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, sorry, I guess a happy ending to a miserable season, finished six and six.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Their win total was seven and a half or eight.
- 49:18SPEAKER_03: So they like LSU, finished below.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Um, I just can't imagine tech feels good about this year winning that game.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: Um, nice to be in-state rival, obviously.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: Five and seven would have been in the houses on fire, burn it all down catastrophe, but it's gotta still feel pretty bad in Blacksburg right now.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, it was a pretty dominant win, which I I was expecting to be a little closer.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Um, I think I think UVA, I mean, just limping into the end of the season.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: Calandria already in the transfer portal.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: He's gone.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, bummer.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, it's just I guess both, I guess in a in a way, both teams are probably happy.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: The season's just over and regroup.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: UVA's finished at five and seven.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, will not make bull season.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: They had a couple chances this year, couldn't get it done.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: Um, Vegas picked predicting to get five wins right where they are.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: Um, so disappointing season for the Hokies.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: I hope they bring Pry back.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: There's obviously some grumblings that he might be on the hot seat.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: I think he did a lot of things well.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I think I'm not sure what really happened with drones down the stretch.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: I know he was hurt for a while.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: I think he had some off-the-field suspension stuff going on as well.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: But overall, I still like the way their offensive defensive looks.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: So hopefully they don't rock the boat too much.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: And for UVA, uh Tony Elliott back to the drawing board.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Calandry is gonna be gone.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: They're gonna Jonas Senker is gonna be gone, Malachi Fields is gonna be gone.
- 50:40SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure what UVA does going forward, but next year, I mean UVA fires him to make a bowl next year, right?
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: It's not setting up to be a very successful uh year next year.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: You're gonna have to break in all new quarterback.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: Um, it's it's not good.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, we'll see.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Maybe some hope.
- 50:59SPEAKER_02: Uh some transfers come in.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: Hopefully.
- 51:03SPEAKER_03: Um, anything else on week 14?
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: Uh now it's time.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: What's I'm talking about?
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Conference champions.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: Let's pick some winners.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: Any anything else?
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: No, let's let's conference.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: Let's get to the conference championship week.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: All right, let's do it.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: All I do is win, win, win, no matter what.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: All right, let's pick some winners for the people.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: Let's give people what they want, Mike.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Make some money.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, five and three, the Mike Blitz bet of the week.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: Uh another decent week, not great.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: Uh didn't hit didn't win silly money, but what are you gonna do?
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, starting with the Mountain West title, that's uh UNL V at Boise State.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: So in the Mountain West, uh, that the game is hosted by the the one seed, which in this case is Boise State.
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: The spread is Boise State minus four.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: They played earlier this year in Vegas.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: It was actually a really close game.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, overunder is 58 and a half points.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: Um, I guess I'll just jump in.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say it.
- 51:48SPEAKER_03: I like UNLV.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: Uh Boise State has kind of, yeah, Boise State has kind of been skating by recently.
- 51:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, I really like Haj Malik Williams in that offense.
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: I recognize playing in Boise.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be so cold.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be a Friday night.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's gonna be Ida.
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: We're talking about Idaho in December.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, where you're long, Johns.
- 52:06SPEAKER_03: Um, but I just don't I think they're gonna stack the box, and I don't really love what Boise can do outside of um Ash and Genty, who of course is the man and he's all world, but like I'm just not excited about um what they're doing.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: You're not a big Maddox Madsen.
- 52:21SPEAKER_03: I'm not a big Maddox Madsen fan, he's been good.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: He's been good, he's been solid against kind of competition that's not great.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: So, anyway, I like UNLVE to kind of pull this upside off.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: I would take them to win outright, or I'd take them plus four.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, give me your Mountain West takes.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: I'm all boisey.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: I'm all boisey.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: Boise's gonna win the game.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: Ash and Genty's gonna get you know his ho hum day of 130 yards rushing.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Matt Madison Maddox is gonna hit a couple shots when he needs to.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: They're gonna keep it close, probably.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: So I like a close boise win.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: All right, well, I'll say this.
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: I do think they're gonna score a lot despite the cold weather, because I think both offenses are really good.
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: I think both defenses are pretty bad.
- 52:56SPEAKER_03: Do you want can you you want to ride with me on the over 58 and a half?
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: 58 and a half.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: All right, I'll say we'll take it over.
- 53:03SPEAKER_02: I just checked the weather.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a balmy 35 degrees, probably, but no snow.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: So we'll see how that affects the city.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Gosh, you're playing fast.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: Good for P good for PR, running good for long runs.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: That's great.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, all right, uh, AAC championship, Tulane at Army.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: Another situation where the conference championship is played at the higher seated game.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: This game is gonna be in West Point, New York.
- 53:25SPEAKER_03: Also pretty cold.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you watched a Bills game, a Buffalo Bills game on TV recently.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Pretty snowy in West uh in uh up in New York these days.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: Um, Tulane is a five-point uh favorite, spread is 45 and a half.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'll start again.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: I got Tulane big.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: I watched that Tulane team go to a service academy in person.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: They went to the Navy.
- 53:45SPEAKER_03: Navy is a probably not as good as Army, but very, very similar as we all know.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: And they smoked them 35 to nothing.
- 53:53SPEAKER_03: Um, Tulane, Tulane's vulnerable through the passing attack.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: Army does not throw the ball.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: Um, I got Tulane rolling in this one.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: I I yeah, I like Tulane.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: Uh I like Tulane to cover as well.
- 54:05SPEAKER_02: I don't know how much they'll roll.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: Uh uh could be one of those games dictated by the pace.
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: So I don't know how big the the only thing that gives me pause is that kind of head scratcher that they just dropped against Memphis.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, Army's had a great season.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: I think they lose this one.
- 54:19SPEAKER_02: I think Tulane covers.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: Very cool.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: All right, Western Kentucky at Jack State.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: Uh this is the um, this is the uh Cousa uh National Champion uh CUSA Conference Championship.
- 54:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, another one of those games where it's hosted.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: So this game is in Jacksonville, Alabama.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: I'll be honest with you, I didn't know Jacksonville State was not in Florida until like this week.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: I thought it was Jacksonville, Florida.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: It's Jacksonville, Alabama.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: So this game is interesting because they actually played last week and Western Kentucky beat them at home 1917.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: The spread is Jacksonville State minus three and a half.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: This is Rich Rod's last game at Jack State.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: He is gonna, I think he's the next coach of West Virginia.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: He's going back for stint number two.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Um, he's going back in a high note.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: Vegas likes Jack State.
- 55:06SPEAKER_03: Their run game is so good.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: They ran the bejesus last week, last week uh against Western Kentucky.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: I got the home team, I got the better running game, and I got the better coach.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Give me Jack State to get the win, win the CUSA.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Sweet, I'll roll with you.
- 55:21SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: No idea.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: Taking Jack State with me.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: All right, Jack State minus three and a half.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: That's great stuff, minus three and a half.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: All right, uh, let's keep rolling to the next one.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: Um, what is it?
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: Saturday, Iowa State.
- 55:35SPEAKER_03: Um playing Arizona State for the Big 12, Dr.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: Pepper Big 12 championship.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: This game is in Arlington, Texas.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Jerry World.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Um, Arizona State minus two.
- 55:45SPEAKER_03: Um, total is 50 and a half.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: So perfect weather, which will uh usually uh is is nice.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Um you know, usually Iowa State has some home field advantage, but not gonna play perfect weather.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: Um Arizona State's like one of the hottest teams in the country.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Um, and they've been dealing against everybody.
- 56:05SPEAKER_03: That line is really low, which gives me a weird pause.
- 56:09SPEAKER_03: I would have guessed this line beforehand would have been Arizona State minus two, I'd be minus like five, and it's only minus two now.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: Um, that gives me major pause.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: And usually rule of thumb is when you don't know you can you can't explain a line, lean into it.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: So Vegas is Vegas is saying they think Iowa State's the the play here.
- 56:27SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you what are you seeing?
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: I'm feeling Arizona State, honestly.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: I I think this could be a toss-up, but I think they're the more physical team.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: I think they're hot at the right time.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I just like their explosiveness on offense.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: Um, I love your boy, one of the most underrated running backs in the country, Cam Scattaboo.
- 56:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, yeah.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Arizona State to cover here.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: All right, let's just how about how about just the money line?
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: Can you give me the money line minus 125?
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: I'll go with you in Arizona State, but let's just do the money line this week because it could be a weird close game.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: Can we do that?
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: All right, cool.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Arizona State money line.
- 57:07SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, and also think Jordan Seaton, the quarterback, um uh uh sorry, Sam Levitt, the quarterback passing to Jordan Tyson, awesome.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: Interesting that the over-under is only 50 and a half because I would I would anticipate more offense than that in this game.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, me too.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: That is uh that it seems like low uh over under.
- 57:25SPEAKER_03: Uh the Mac Championship.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: Uh this is funny.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: Ohio playing Miami of Ohio in Detroit at Fords Field where the Lions play.
- 57:33SPEAKER_03: I have no opinions about this game, so I'm not even gonna pick it.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, do you have any Mac any Mac thoughts?
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: No.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: Keep it rolling.
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: All right, Georgia at applying, sorry, keep it rolling versus Texas.
- 57:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, Texas is a two and a half point favorite over under 49 and a half.
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: This game is at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is, of course, as most of you know, is in Atlanta, Georgia, about a 45-minute drive from Athens.
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: This game, well, Texas is gonna travel well, but this game is going to be more or less an extended home game for um uh Georgia.
- 58:03SPEAKER_03: Um, we talk about these teams all the time, so I know you've got thoughts.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: Give me, open it up.
- 58:07SPEAKER_03: What do you got?
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: I just think Texas is the more complete, consistent team.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: I know that they haven't played the schedule that Georgia has.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: Um, they've got better quarterback play, they've they've they've got more consistent play in the trenches, um, better wide receivers and more explosiveness on the outside.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think it's a good close game.
- 58:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, you can never count Georgia out, never count Kirby Smart out.
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: They've done it time and time again.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Um, but Beck has been so up and down, and and he may play amazing.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: Um, they're gonna need his legs, uh, which people forget about.
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: He's a pretty good runner when he has to be, but I like Texas.
- 58:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like Texas too.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: They're their their offensive line is very, very good.
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, their defensive front is awesome.
- 58:47SPEAKER_03: We already talked about it earlier.
- 58:48SPEAKER_03: I was very impressed with what they did against AM.
- 58:50SPEAKER_03: Um they uh I'm not sure Georgia's offensive line's health.
- 58:55SPEAKER_03: Trevor Etienne sounds like he's not gonna play.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: Carson Beck has been hit or miss a lot.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: This Texas team is peaking.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I know that I came to the ball with Georgia, but I'm leaving with Texas.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna take Texas cover.
- 59:07SPEAKER_03: What do we get right now?
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: Texas minus two and a half.
- 59:09SPEAKER_03: You like that?
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: Take that.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, a game like that, if you feel strongly about it, it's a coin flip.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, give me Texas.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: Very cool.
- 59:17SPEAKER_03: All right, Marshall.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: Um, at uh Louisiana Lafayette.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: This is another Sunbelt Championship.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: Um, this game is played at the home field playing play at home field the one seed, which is Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana.
- 59:27SPEAKER_03: Spreads five and a half over under 56 and a half.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: Not a single opinion.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: You got anything?
- 59:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, no.
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: Let's keep it rolling.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Penn State uh playing uh Oregon in the Big Ten championship.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: This game is at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, home of the Indianapolis Colts.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: So another indoor dome situation.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Although Oregon and Penn State are both teams that are built to play in bad weather, won't be an issue here.
- 59:48SPEAKER_03: The spread is Oregon uh minus three and a half.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: Um uh over under is 49 and a half.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: So my initial thought is the line.
- 59:57SPEAKER_03: If they're giving you a field goal and a hook, they are begging you to bet Penn State.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_03: And for that reason, I want Oregon.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_03: I think Oregon is like a touchdown better.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I think Oregon is going to win.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_03: I think they're they I think Oregon also has an outstanding offensive line.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: I think Penn State's offense is a little too predictable.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: I don't think they can do much outside of Tyler Warren.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: I do like Nick Singleton a lot.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I got Oregon and that offense.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_03: I think but also think I think they're guys on the outside.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: I think uh Tez Johnson and Evan Stewart are just outstanding wide receivers, and I think Penn State can be beat uh through the air.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: So I'm going Oregon.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_03: What do you got?
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: Uh my eyeballs tell me Oregon is a much better football team.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: So I like I like Oregon.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: I think I think they win comfortably.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think that Penn State is a good team, not a great team.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: I think Oregon is a great team with a better quarterback with a very high ceiling that they really probably haven't even met yet.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: Um, so this one's an easy one for me.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: Take it Oregon to cover.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: Last one.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: Uh the ACC championship, eight o'clock on ABC.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_03: This game is in Charlotte, North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: Mike and I were in Bank of America Stadium together in September watching the Tennessee and Cameron.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: It feels like ages ago.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: It feels like five years ago we were there.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: Uh it was back in September.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_03: The spread is uh SMU minus two and a half over under is 56 and a half.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_03: Why can I not shake the idea that Dabo is gonna find a way to win this game?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: I just there's something they are so good in big games.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: I I've something in my bones tells me Clemson's gonna win this game.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Go tell me what you got.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_02: I'm not in your bones, and I tell you, SMU is going to win this game.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Um I just think I think yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's kind of like going against Kirby Smart in Georgia, it's hard to do.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_02: Short line, but it is a short line, and but Kevin Jennings is uh almost a more polished, better version of Sellers from South Carolina.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: He can do it with his legs.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: Um, I think he makes he's he can make bigger plays.
