- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to that territory. We are psyche.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You're here. Please subscribe Tweet us at FT live by
- 0:10Speaker 1: our merchant Foul territoryshop dot com. AJ is live at
- 0:14Speaker 1: twins Camp. Great list of guests coming up. Eric of
- 0:17Speaker 1: course is at home. I'm Alana Rizzo in place of
- 0:21Speaker 1: Scott Braun today, guys. Good to be with you, AJ.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm impressed you're all over the place. As ore spring
- 0:26Speaker 1: training calendar continues, it is time to charge the mound
- 0:31Speaker 1: powered by Fox One. All right, WBC quarterfinal ist set. Gentlemen,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we had a live postgame last night. It was me
- 0:42Speaker 1: and Eric and Todd AJ. I would like to get
- 0:44Speaker 1: your thoughts on how it unfolded last night. Of course,
- 0:48Speaker 1: Team USA is in because of Team Italy. You're purposely
- 0:52Speaker 1: looking at the wrong camera just to piss off our doctor.
- 0:55Speaker 1: You are unbelievable.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Am on, I'm looking at the right camera.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You later on camera.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Oh am, I I didn't even realize it. Sorry, such
- 1:06Speaker 3: a trill. Uh Wait, the USA got through.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I fell I fell asleep once Italy went up like
- 1:13Speaker 3: seven nothing in that game, so wait, oh oh, that's right.
- 1:15Speaker 3: They get through and by the way, Vinnie Pasquentino, what
- 1:20Speaker 3: an interview after the game three homers and what an interview.
- 1:24Speaker 3: And Bobby Witt, I guess he's gonna have to buy
- 1:26Speaker 3: him dinner or something along the way to uh, thank
- 1:29Speaker 3: Vinnie for leading his team Italy to the victory. So
- 1:32Speaker 3: therefore us a kind of I don't want to say
- 1:34Speaker 3: backdoored their way in, but they didn't get in by winning.
- 1:37Speaker 2: The pool, which is what most people thought.
- 1:39Speaker 3: So I'm happy USA is through, obviously as a USA fan,
- 1:43Speaker 3: not the way they wanted to get through.
- 1:45Speaker 2: But now they get Canada.
- 1:46Speaker 3: So now they get to be not only Mexico, but
- 1:48Speaker 3: then they're going to get to beat Canada. So we're
- 1:50Speaker 3: just going to control the whole North American continent in
- 1:53Speaker 3: baseball as we should.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Okay, so are you saying that you like? You like
- 1:59Speaker 1: the USA's chair moving forward, and we'll talk about the
- 2:02Speaker 1: quarterfinal matchup between USA and Canada momentarily, but Eric, let's
- 2:07Speaker 1: talk a bit more about pasquatch. Vinnie Pasquintino has been
- 2:12Speaker 1: a jolt of energy. And when I say that, I'm
- 2:14Speaker 1: not just talking about the espresso my friend in that dugout,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but man, he's been good for that team. You gotta
- 2:19Speaker 1: love the way he's going about his business and kind
- 2:21Speaker 1: of being the leader of Italia.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, he's definitely taking that captain ship role, I meaning
- 2:27Speaker 4: being the recruiter trying to get everybody that's ever eaten
- 2:30Speaker 4: pasta to play for Team Italy. I mean he's got
- 2:34Speaker 4: asked for the holidays, he asked for Pete Alonzo, like
- 2:38Speaker 4: he's taken all the Italian alana. You might have been
- 2:41Speaker 4: even asked to play for Team Italy. But honestly, like
- 2:45Speaker 4: that's that's what you need in these things. You need
- 2:48Speaker 4: that guy who is banging the drum for the team
- 2:53Speaker 4: for the federation, and they had a little bit of
- 2:57Speaker 4: turnover because Piazza isn't there anymore. I think he was
- 3:00Speaker 4: that guy that was really banging the drum. I know,
- 3:02Speaker 4: the Colobello family, different people behind Team Italy have been
- 3:08Speaker 4: pushing for this team to put the best foot forward.
- 3:12Speaker 4: And he was not good up until this game batting wise,
- 3:16Speaker 4: but he has been a absolute vacuum over at first
- 3:20Speaker 4: base and the plays he've been making has kept his
- 3:24Speaker 4: team in the games. But to come out and hit
- 3:27Speaker 4: three home runs, the first guy ever to have three
- 3:29Speaker 4: home runs in a WBC game, Like, I had no
- 3:34Speaker 4: idea when that graphic came up. I was like, I
- 3:36Speaker 4: was very surprised that nobody had had a three home
- 3:39Speaker 4: run game because there's some stinker of teams that you
- 3:42Speaker 4: play against. And it was the first WBC game with
- 3:45Speaker 4: three homers. And he stepped up and pushed his pushed
- 3:49Speaker 4: his fellow American brethren onto the final, onto the quarterfinals.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Also the double kiss in the dugout, just I just
- 3:57Speaker 1: love it so much. And I have an idea for
- 3:59Speaker 1: the espresso machine, guys. I think they should auction off
- 4:01Speaker 1: the that exact espresso machine when the tournament is over,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and they should take the money, auction it off to
- 4:07Speaker 1: somebody who would like to have that in their home.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Take all of the money and donate it to the
- 4:11Speaker 1: Italian American Baseball Foundation. I think that would be an
- 4:14Speaker 1: awesome idea. Vinnie passed Fuentino with a great postgame interview
- 4:19Speaker 1: last night. Take a listen.
- 4:22Speaker 5: I'm caffeinated, I'm beamed up right now. So just yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 5: we're in a good spot. That was unbelievable.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Huh, You're welcome, USA.
- 4:33Speaker 5: We were thinking of you guys over at your hotel.
- 4:36Speaker 5: We were thinking of you guys. So glad you guys
- 4:38Speaker 5: could join us in the party.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So great.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I love it.
- 4:42Speaker 3: By the way, the best part of that was earlier
- 4:45Speaker 3: in the game when he hit his first homer and
- 4:47Speaker 3: they asked Vinnie what the flavors were, and he goes,
- 4:49Speaker 3: we got yellow, and we got red. I don't know
- 4:53Speaker 3: if one, and then they showed him it was yellow,
- 4:55Speaker 3: we got I think he's.
- 4:56Speaker 2: A golden red.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, golden red.
- 4:58Speaker 2: We have golden red, and you just pick which one
- 5:01Speaker 2: you want.
- 5:01Speaker 5: It was great.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I mean, the whole thing is great. Listen, this is tournament.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I love this tournament. I know Kratzy loves this tournament.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I think you love this tournament, Alto. It's just awesome
- 5:10Speaker 3: to see these guys out there playing having fun, and
- 5:12Speaker 3: then when upsets happened, like Italy over USA, it makes
- 5:15Speaker 3: it even more interesting and more fun. So excuse me,
- 5:18Speaker 3: my pasta had last night, so I had to eat.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I eat Italian for the team in Italy last night
- 5:25Speaker 3: to get USA in. But yeah, it's just such a
- 5:29Speaker 3: cool thing, and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. The
- 5:31Speaker 3: TV ratings have been unbelievable for this whole thing, so
- 5:35Speaker 3: I think it's great. I hope we continue to more
- 5:37Speaker 3: of this, and I hope they figure out a way
- 5:38Speaker 3: to get the best players in the Olympics. Even though
- 5:41Speaker 3: the teams that are going to be an Olympics we'll
- 5:42Speaker 3: talk about a later date, there's only going to be
- 5:44Speaker 3: six teams in the Olympics. It's it's it's sad. But anyways,
- 5:48Speaker 3: I love the WBC and I think it's awesome for
- 5:50Speaker 3: the game.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and the ratings have been great. You've been a
- 5:52Speaker 1: part of that aj on Fox with your team over there.
- 5:55Speaker 1: So let's take a look at the bracket. Now we
- 5:57Speaker 1: know the four games that are setting up for these finals.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Of course we have Korea and the Dominican Republic. We
- 6:03Speaker 1: talked about the US and Canada. Of course, Puerto Rico
- 6:06Speaker 1: going up against Italy and then Venezuela going up against
- 6:10Speaker 1: Team Japan. Let's talk about Canada and the US. Obviously,
- 6:13Speaker 1: when you think about these two teams, Eric, you think
- 6:15Speaker 1: about hockey at least I do. I think about pucks
- 6:17Speaker 1: with US and Canada. But here we go in the
- 6:21Speaker 1: quarterfinals between our neighbors to the north.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Well, I mean, before we get to the baseball part
- 6:27Speaker 4: of it, I think Canada's got a little bit of
- 6:30Speaker 4: a chip on their shoulder because most of Canada probably
- 6:33Speaker 4: could care less if Canadian baseball loses.
- 6:36Speaker 5: To the US.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But so far, America's two to zero in the Canada
- 6:43Speaker 4: VERSUS US exchange here with the women's hockey winning and
- 6:48Speaker 4: men's hockey winning. So really, the baseball team, they've already
- 6:52Speaker 4: had their little blip in the radar. They have to
- 6:54Speaker 4: come out and they have to they have to show out,
- 6:57Speaker 4: just like the hockey teams did. But all that to say, yes,
- 7:01Speaker 4: the lineup is so much better. Yes, the pitching, the depth,
- 7:05Speaker 4: all that stuff is so much better. But knowing Ernie
- 7:08Speaker 4: Witt for a long time manager, longtime manager of WBC
- 7:12Speaker 4: and Team Canada pretty much every international game that they've played,
- 7:17Speaker 4: Stubby Klapp has been a player on there and a
- 7:21Speaker 4: now on the staff for a long time. Larry Walker like,
- 7:25Speaker 4: it's the same cast of guys and does that give
- 7:29Speaker 4: that Does that make them a better team? No, it
- 7:31Speaker 4: makes them more cohesive. They don't have the Justin Moore
- 7:35Speaker 4: knows anymore, the Russell Martins anymore. They don't have those
- 7:40Speaker 4: bigger name guys, but they have guys that can step
- 7:43Speaker 4: up and be a cohesive unit.
- 7:45Speaker 5: I said it before.
- 7:46Speaker 4: The reason Japan wins this is because they figure out
- 7:49Speaker 4: how to play together. What that looks like statistically, I
- 7:53Speaker 4: don't know, but what it looks like in victories. Japan's
- 7:56Speaker 4: got three victories. Teams have played together. Know the coach
- 8:00Speaker 4: is they have a very cohesive groups. That's how you
- 8:04Speaker 4: win in these torments. That's how you win in international baseball.
- 8:07Speaker 4: And so you can't count Canada out. But I think
- 8:10Speaker 4: America will definitely take care of business here with logan
- 8:13Speaker 4: web on the.

- 8:40Speaker 3: Well, listen, Scott, I'm trying to stay in my playing
- 8:41Speaker 3: slash fighting shape, so I need the seafood.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I need the protein and I need the veggies.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And plus I want to look cool when people come
- 8:47Speaker 3: over and say, wow, you made all this stuff, and

- 9:17Speaker 1: Who is dropping the gloves? In this matchup between US
- 9:20Speaker 1: and Canada?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Who was dropping the glove? I mean, do we we
- 9:24Speaker 2: really have to go there?
- 9:25Speaker 1: A lot of I mean, we don't have to fight.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I just you know, kind of like what Krautz just said.
- 9:31Speaker 3: We own hockey now US. Yeah, own hockey now. We've
- 9:36Speaker 3: owned baseball forever. We even a lot of your Dodgers
- 9:39Speaker 3: even ripped their hearts out in the World Series and
- 9:41Speaker 3: took Canada's World Series away from.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Them, right, So, I mean, at what point is Canada
- 9:45Speaker 2: just going to give up?
- 9:46Speaker 3: And you know, Mark, our fearless leader here, he's just
- 9:49Speaker 3: waiting for him to become the fifty.
- 9:51Speaker 2: First state, is what I heard him say before the show.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So I mean, where are we at? Okay, Yeah, I'm
- 9:58Speaker 2: just kidding everybody. It was a joke. Mark did not
- 10:01Speaker 2: say that.
- 10:02Speaker 4: He said, don't clip it, clip that part out, take
- 10:05Speaker 4: it out.
- 10:05Speaker 5: I'll be like.
- 10:07Speaker 1: The MLB network and takes shit down and then try
- 10:09Speaker 1: to just the Internet is forever, Yes, forever.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And by the way, that's one of the craziest things
- 10:18Speaker 3: I've ever heard. But South Park the other said it best.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Blame Canada. What was the song Blame Canada? The whole
- 10:24Speaker 3: episode was blame Canada for like everything. So that's where
- 10:27Speaker 3: we're at as US baseball fans. We're blaming Canada for everything.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Blame Canada.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Anyways, to get Paxxton out of the game, that was funny.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Did you see his face?
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yes, because he had one more If he threw one
- 10:45Speaker 3: more pitch, he couldn't pitch right.
- 10:46Speaker 2: So they were like they.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Had to get him out and he was like laughing
- 10:49Speaker 1: about it because he didn't want to because they were
- 10:50Speaker 1: they already had that huge league and he's.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Still throwing ninety seven.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Yeah, by the way, they said he was ninety two.
- 10:57Speaker 3: He was like ninety six ninety seven. He making a comeback.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Well, see, if there wasn't the pitch count, he could
- 11:02Speaker 1: just you could just roll him out there. Because he's
- 11:04Speaker 1: not he doesn't play for a team. He's retired. You
- 11:06Speaker 1: can just wear him out. But with the pitch count,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you can't do that. Oh in casey, guys, he's a player.
- 11:11Speaker 1: He's a good guy. Up and comers.
- 11:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of good Naylor brothers are on Canada.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Tian Abraham Toro is having is having a great series.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Mike Soroka has made I mean he was just on
- 11:24Speaker 4: a show just I mean just a couple of weeks ago,
- 11:26Speaker 4: talking about the different changes that he made.
- 11:29Speaker 5: There's not there's that. This is the beauty of baseball.
- 11:33Speaker 4: This is why we say at the beginning of every
- 11:35Speaker 4: year that the Dodgers build their team. Oh man, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 4: Dodgers are just gonna win all one hundred and sixty
- 11:40Speaker 4: two games. It's not for a lack of effort. Players
- 11:43Speaker 4: want to win every single game. But the game of
- 11:45Speaker 4: baseball will humble you because you can hit one hundred
- 11:50Speaker 4: and one out of the ballpark down the left field line,
- 11:54Speaker 4: but you sometimes can't figure out how to hit a
- 11:57Speaker 4: sinker down and a way through the infield. Like it's
- 12:01Speaker 4: just it's a hard game. And when you have Michael
- 12:04Speaker 4: Soroka on the mound, Canada has a chance to win.
- 12:08Speaker 4: When you have Abraham Toro in the batter's box, they
- 12:11Speaker 4: have a chance to win. Oh and Casey, you have
- 12:15Speaker 4: a chance to win. You have you have Bo Naylor
- 12:17Speaker 4: behind the dish running that pitching staff. They have good pitchers,
- 12:22Speaker 4: they have good players, and you just need to put
- 12:25Speaker 4: together nine innings and you can move on to play
- 12:29Speaker 4: most likely the Dominican or correct.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So if Canada wins, it's because.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Why because the pitchers were able to execute their pitches
- 12:41Speaker 4: just like just like Lorenzen did, Just like Michael Lorenzen
- 12:45Speaker 4: did for Team Italy, he executed his pitches in the
- 12:49Speaker 4: zones where that vaunted lineup could not hit. And it's
- 12:53Speaker 4: different for each each hitter. So a pitcher has to
- 12:56Speaker 4: be able to make those adjustments and not just try
- 12:59Speaker 4: to out stuff this lineup.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Aj the US wins, why.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Because we're in the United States and we win. That's
- 13:06Speaker 3: all we all we do is win win. That's song,
- 13:08Speaker 3: you know, no matter what Marca, DJ Kallen, Doctor Phillips
- 13:14Speaker 3: High and another one.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Uh, Listen, US wins just because they're a better team. Listen.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Can something happen, yes, like it happened against Italy, but
- 13:29Speaker 3: they had their loss, They got their bad game out
- 13:31Speaker 3: of the way.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Now they roll and listen.
- 13:34Speaker 3: You guys can say what you want about Mark Derossa,
- 13:36Speaker 3: but he knew they were through the whole time. Guys,
- 13:37Speaker 3: so let's stop with the Mark DeRosa slander he did
- 13:41Speaker 3: talking about He said, he said, we're through the quarterfinals.
- 13:46Speaker 2: They worked through the quarterfinals. He knew.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, their ticket was punched, right, so he knew.
- 13:51Speaker 2: He knew he was he was he was thinking, he
- 13:54Speaker 2: was thinking ahead of the game.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean somebody should have should have figured out.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Out anyways, we're not going to go into it. We
- 14:02Speaker 3: went through that yesterday. I feel bad a little bit
- 14:05Speaker 3: for that whole backle Yeah, because there should have been
- 14:08Speaker 3: other people like we talked about yesterday.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I want it's telling him no, that's not true. But
- 14:12Speaker 2: that's either hero or there.
- 14:13Speaker 3: US wins again because they're the better team and they
- 14:16Speaker 3: should win and they're gonna win.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Carter Hawkins one one three in our chat says, if
- 14:22Speaker 1: USA starts hitting with runners in scoring position, guys, they
- 14:25Speaker 1: are taking gold, and you do more of that, right,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I would imagine it's a good.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Idea they're going to win.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I don't think they're the favorite to win gold. I
- 14:33Speaker 4: don't even think they're the favorite to go to the
- 14:34Speaker 4: finals from their side of the bracket.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Really, So they get by Canada, but they don't get.
- 14:41Speaker 4: By dr unless Korea can take down I think they
- 14:45Speaker 4: have a chance if Korea takes down the Dominicans.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Somehow, I just feel like they're they're a train.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Can I just I don't. I swear and I could
- 14:56Speaker 3: be so wrong in this, and that's fine. I'm used
- 14:57Speaker 3: to being wrong. I swear the US couldn't play Dominican
- 15:02Speaker 3: or Japan until the final. But now the way the
- 15:05Speaker 3: brackets lined up, and then it's let's.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Put the bracket back up if we can, guys, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: show keeps what you're talking about. So, yeah, they can
- 15:17Speaker 1: play the Dominican if the Dominican beats Korea, and then
- 15:21Speaker 1: they would only play Venezuela if they got to the final.
- 15:27Speaker 5: No, no Japan Japan is who Japan?
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but I originally thought it was Dominican and Korea
- 15:33Speaker 3: were on the other side of the bracket in Japan
- 15:35Speaker 3: and Venezuela with Japan and Venezuela, and then Italy and
- 15:38Speaker 3: Puerto Rico were going to be on the US side
- 15:39Speaker 3: of the bracket. But I was clearly wrong with that,
- 15:41Speaker 3: which is good. But I mean that if it's US
- 15:44Speaker 3: Dominican semi final, that is going to be much much
- 15:48Speaker 3: much much fun, much fun.
- 15:52Speaker 1: So that should probably I mean, all things being considered
- 15:55Speaker 1: with the talent you guys just talked about. Barring anything crazy,
- 15:57Speaker 1: it would be USA and the Dominican in the semi final,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and it's probably going to be let's just say Italy
- 16:05Speaker 1: and Japan and the other semi.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Right A Puerto Rico. I think Puerto Rico.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Can't beat Italy. I'm not. I'm certainly not suggesting that.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I like that.
- 16:15Speaker 4: I like that matchup, Like if you're talking about the
- 16:18Speaker 4: first round, the game that I want, the games I
- 16:20Speaker 4: want to see, I think that might be the closest
- 16:22Speaker 4: matchup I think Puerto Rico's I think they're running seth
- 16:25Speaker 4: Lugo back. If I'm not mistaken, and I think it's
- 16:30Speaker 4: I think it's a good I think that's the matchup
- 16:33Speaker 4: that I really want to see. I think that's going
- 16:34Speaker 4: to be the closest game.
- 16:36Speaker 1: All right, let's spot talk about Logan Web, Michael Soroka.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Where are each of those strengths, guys. As we wait
- 16:42Speaker 1: for Royce Lewis to join us on set with AJ
- 16:44Speaker 1: who is live at twins Camp, Eric, I'll let you
- 16:47Speaker 1: break down Logan Web and AJ, you take Soroka.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I mean, Logan Web's an easy one. I appreciate that
- 16:54Speaker 4: that's a layup. You're talking about a guy who's probably
- 16:56Speaker 4: a top five pitcher in the game right now, and
- 16:59Speaker 4: he does it if you look at his peripherals, things
- 17:02Speaker 4: like his velocity and the fact that he doesn't throw
- 17:04Speaker 4: that big four seamer all the time and just blow
- 17:09Speaker 4: guys up. No, he runs probably, in my opinion, starting
- 17:13Speaker 4: pitching wise, probably one of the best two seam fastballs
- 17:17Speaker 4: both sides of the plate. He's able to run it
- 17:19Speaker 4: in on the hands. When he added that four seam fastball,
- 17:23Speaker 4: now his home run, his home run damage went way
- 17:27Speaker 4: way down. Like he was Guys weren't able to just
- 17:29Speaker 4: stay down, down, down, down and stay on him in
- 17:31Speaker 4: one location and then that change up. It's just it's
- 17:36Speaker 4: one of the best sinker change up combinations in the game.
- 17:40Speaker 4: And he throws strikes if the defense, if US defense
- 17:44Speaker 4: is ready, there's gonna be a lot of ground balls,
- 17:47Speaker 4: There's gonna be a lot of quick outs, and I
- 17:50Speaker 4: could see him going six innings here. I know they
- 17:52Speaker 4: have a great bullpen, but Logan Webb has the ability
- 17:56Speaker 4: to keep his pitch count low and get deep into
- 18:00Speaker 4: the game.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Okay, after Logan Web though, eric as we continue to
- 18:05Speaker 1: talk about this, where do you go from him? Because
- 18:08Speaker 1: Scooble's gone, right, Skeens is gone, So who do you
- 18:12Speaker 1: like after Web?
- 18:14Speaker 4: Would it be a starting pitching or relief pitchers starting? Well,
- 18:20Speaker 4: they'll go back to Schemes in the semi finals. Schemes
- 18:23Speaker 4: will pitch. Schemes will pitch again, so that's huge. And
- 18:26Speaker 4: then it's Nolan McClain. I mean, you're talking about the finals,
- 18:30Speaker 4: and I love that Schemes is pitching the semi finals. Well,
- 18:33Speaker 4: I love to have Scooble then Schiens, absolutely, we can't
- 18:37Speaker 4: have it. I also would like to eat a lot
- 18:38Speaker 4: of ice cream and not get fatter. But the opportunity
- 18:44Speaker 4: for schemes to pitch in that game gives them the
- 18:47Speaker 4: chance to because that might be their toughest matchup. The
- 18:50Speaker 4: Dominican might be their toughest matchup, and so I think
- 18:52Speaker 4: it gives them an opportunity to make it.
- 18:54Speaker 5: To the finals.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And I would I would go ahead, if I'm the manager,
- 18:58Speaker 4: I would go ahead and give Nolan McLain another opportunity.
- 19:01Speaker 4: He was in the fire, he saw what it takes,
- 19:04Speaker 4: he knows the feelings that he's gonna have. It's it
- 19:07Speaker 4: was his first playoff type of atmosphere, and you know,
- 19:11Speaker 4: I think I think it sets up really well. But
- 19:13Speaker 4: the game really is gonna be won mostly in the
- 19:16Speaker 4: bullpen and who which team can pitch the best out
- 19:21Speaker 4: of the bullpen? When you start talking about semis semis
- 19:23Speaker 4: in finals.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Huh, sounds like the regular season in the postseason, who
- 19:27Speaker 1: has the better bullpen? This episode is brought to you

- 19:57Speaker 1: Training Tour continues the AJ and of course a lot
- 19:59Speaker 1: of the other guys out there for so many days.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Look at all the clamps, the camps, guys that we
- 20:04Speaker 1: have covered. Of course, we're at the Twins today. Tomorrow
- 20:07Speaker 1: it is the Boston Red Sox, Tigers, Pirates, Blue Jays,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and Phillies round things out before Major League Baseball the
- 20:13Speaker 1: regular season starts on the twenty fifth, twenty six were
- 20:17Speaker 1: right around the corner, all right, So let's talk about
- 20:21Speaker 1: some of the Major League Baseball teams guys in terms
- 20:25Speaker 1: of their players who are crushing the World Baseball Classic
- 20:29Speaker 1: as we lay out for the hot corner. Eric, let's
- 20:43Speaker 1: talk about the Colorado Rockies. Let's talk about Michael Lorenzen.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I know, I know we don't often do that here
- 20:49Speaker 1: that we're given us a reason too. And Michael Lorenzen
- 20:51Speaker 1: has looked really good pitching for Team Italy with you know,
- 20:57Speaker 1: just so far what he's been able to do. Not
- 20:59Speaker 1: only Lorenz, but also with Lions as well. So I
- 21:02Speaker 1: mean they're doing they're doing some good things. Those those
- 21:05Speaker 1: Colorado Rockies pitchers.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, no, they are, they are.
- 21:10Speaker 4: And I have no doubt that Michael Lorenzen like he's
- 21:15Speaker 4: he's built for these types of moments in WBC. It
- 21:19Speaker 4: just it hurts my heart to see an older guy
- 21:22Speaker 4: have to go to a place where he's there to
- 21:25Speaker 4: mentor guys.
- 21:26Speaker 5: And then there's nothing wrong with that. I loved.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I loved that part of being a player because I
- 21:30Speaker 4: didn't play that much, but I love the part of
- 21:33Speaker 4: being a player where you get to mentor younger players,
- 21:35Speaker 4: You get to mentor guys that just don't have the
- 21:38Speaker 4: same amount of experience. And he will be a stepping
- 21:42Speaker 4: stone for the Rockies if they're able to get back
- 21:46Speaker 4: to success, if they're able to get back to the postseason,
- 21:49Speaker 4: there will be guys on the team that'll say, yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 4: you know, back in twenty six, you know, Michael Lorenzen
- 21:54Speaker 4: really had a lot to do with my work ethic,
- 21:57Speaker 4: my nutrition, the way you know I attacked hitters in Colorado.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Blah blah blah, can go on and on, and to
- 22:04Speaker 4: see him in this stage have success it's just gonna
- 22:08Speaker 4: be another time when he's gonna go and he's going
- 22:11Speaker 4: to he's gonna, you know, have a decent season in
- 22:15Speaker 4: Colorado and then get picked up at the trade deadline.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Like that's pitching in international baseball. Whether you're facing the
- 22:23Speaker 4: lowliest team or you're facing the vaunte the United States,
- 22:27Speaker 4: it is a different environment. You have a different feeling,
- 22:31Speaker 4: your heart is beating at a different rate. And it's
- 22:34Speaker 4: the closest we can get to the playoffs to see
- 22:37Speaker 4: how guys react in different situations. And you see the
- 22:40Speaker 4: success that the Rockies pitchers are having. I'm not really
- 22:44Speaker 4: that surprised. Siicano has plenty of experience. Yeah, maybe it
- 22:48Speaker 4: didn't go as well as the Orioles at Hope, but
- 22:50Speaker 4: to me, I thought it was a decently successful season
- 22:52Speaker 4: for him.
- 22:53Speaker 5: And then Jose Kintana.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Why this guy only gets one year deals every year,
- 22:58Speaker 4: I have no idea, because all he ever does go
- 23:00Speaker 4: out and get out.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Aj there's shoving the Rockies pitchers that are being represented
- 23:07Speaker 1: in the WBC. It's it's nice to see these guys
- 23:09Speaker 1: having some success. Hopefully that can translate back to their
- 23:12Speaker 1: regular season with their home club.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, sure a Lona.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Sure you still gotta go pitch in Colorado for any
- 23:22Speaker 3: one games?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that wasn't an excuse. He wouldn't let nobody Black's
- 23:27Speaker 1: not there anymore. But he wouldn't. He wouldn't let his
- 23:29Speaker 1: pitchers say that pitching in Colorado was an excuse. Jim
- 23:32Speaker 1: Leland hated, hated managing there.
- 23:34Speaker 3: But then they should have won more games. What do
- 23:36Speaker 3: you want me to say? I mean, it's it is
- 23:38Speaker 3: a thing. It's a real thing. I'm sorry, humidor no
- 23:41Speaker 3: humidor I know it's Nobody wants.
- 23:44Speaker 2: To use it as excuse.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Nobody wants to say it, but it is a real thing.
- 23:46Speaker 3: So listen, the Rockies want to be good. They made
- 23:51Speaker 3: some changes to the front office after a long time.
- 23:54Speaker 3: They're bringing in some different ideas. The Rockies pitchers are
- 23:57Speaker 3: doing good, good and we'll see how it carries over
- 24:00Speaker 3: on that face. The Dodgers, the Diamondbacks, the Padres, and the.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Giants top division, tough Division Division.
- 24:09Speaker 1: So like the Rockies, the Red Sox specifically Jared Duran,
- 24:14Speaker 1: Roman Anthony, they're having a pretty good WBC as well.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You got to like what you see, especially with those
- 24:21Speaker 1: two young guns. Guys in terms of and guns. Not
- 24:24Speaker 1: I'm not meaning that by arms, but the Jared Duran's
- 24:26Speaker 1: and the Roman Anthonys of the world, respectfully. Jared Duran
- 24:29Speaker 1: for Mexico, I know they're not in it anymore, but
- 24:32Speaker 1: Roman Anthony obviously for Team USA, who is there because
- 24:35Speaker 1: of the injury to Corbyn. Carrol Future Bright Eric from Boston, Yeah.
- 24:42Speaker 4: We knew this. We knew the future was bright. That's
- 24:45Speaker 4: why we were surprised that they didn't bring Bragman back
- 24:47Speaker 4: and the impact he had on them last year. But
- 24:50Speaker 4: the future is bright, and the Red Sox can thank
- 24:53Speaker 4: Red Sox fans can thank Heim Bloom. The Red Sox
- 24:57Speaker 4: fans can can look to a guy now. Jared Durand's
- 25:00Speaker 4: name was in the mix of possibly getting traded if
- 25:04Speaker 4: they needed to add a bigger piece to their starting rotation,
- 25:08Speaker 4: which they did other ways, and now they still have
- 25:10Speaker 4: them and they continue to have a good logjam. I
- 25:15Speaker 4: just think it's one of those things that when you
- 25:17Speaker 4: have youth, when you have young left handed power hitters, yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 4: I mean, I guess I would consider both of them
- 25:24Speaker 4: power hitters. Jaron Duran is more of a doubles guy,
- 25:27Speaker 4: but he's that like energy and I just hope with
- 25:31Speaker 4: Roman Anthony, I hope he can glean from his time
- 25:34Speaker 4: with Team USA being around MVPs what it takes to
- 25:39Speaker 4: be an MVP.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Does he have the physical skills, absolutely, But it's the pressure.
- 25:44Speaker 5: It's the pressure of.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Thinking in Boston because they didn't bring back a bragman,
- 25:50Speaker 4: because they didn't go get Pete Alonzo, that guy.
- 25:52Speaker 5: That was going to be the aircraft carrier.
- 25:55Speaker 4: To me, I think the Red Sox organization is looking
- 25:58Speaker 4: to Roman Anthony to be the aircraft carrier, which is
- 26:01Speaker 4: a lot to take on as a rookie, as a
- 26:05Speaker 4: young he's not a rookie anymore, I get it, but
- 26:07Speaker 4: as a young guy in the lineup, and I think
- 26:11Speaker 4: it's something that being around Aaron Judge MVP, Paul Goldschmidt MVP,
- 26:16Speaker 4: Bryce Harper MVP, Like you go around the entire room
- 26:20Speaker 4: and you're like talking to these guys, what did you
- 26:23Speaker 4: feel like in July I pulled my oblique and was
- 26:26Speaker 4: out in August?
- 26:27Speaker 5: What did you guys do for this?
- 26:28Speaker 1: Like?
- 26:29Speaker 5: Those are things that if he's going to carry this
- 26:31Speaker 5: Red Sox organization, which they feel like his talent will
- 26:35Speaker 5: this time with Team USA and being around these guys
- 26:38Speaker 5: could be more valuable than anybody will ever know.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That is a lot to ask of a twenty one
- 26:43Speaker 1: year old kid. Obviously he does have the poise and
- 26:46Speaker 1: the promise, but that's a lot of pressure on a
- 26:48Speaker 1: young kid. Let me ask you this AJ with Masataka Yoshida,
- 26:52Speaker 1: when you're around these parts I live in the Boston area,
- 26:55Speaker 1: when he is your DH, that seems to be a
- 26:58Speaker 1: little bit problematic if you don't necessarcessarily think of Masataka
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yoshida as a DH. But right now in the WBC,
- 27:05Speaker 1: he is a monster. What would you like to see
- 27:07Speaker 1: him do more of in the regular season to help
- 27:10Speaker 1: lengthen this Red Sox lineup?
- 27:13Speaker 5: A hit that would help hitching.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Probably should hit well, Yes, hit big league pitching. Probably
- 27:21Speaker 3: hit velocity and stay healthy. The biggest thing in Yoshida
- 27:24Speaker 3: is he's never really been healthy for a full season.
- 27:26Speaker 3: It is always something right, It's always something There's a
- 27:29Speaker 3: reason why he had he couldn't play the outfield. He
- 27:30Speaker 3: had injuries, and now is the Dher're trying to keep
- 27:33Speaker 3: him healthy. So can he stay healthy and can he hit?
- 27:36Speaker 2: That's it?
- 27:36Speaker 3: I mean, if he doesn't hit then they have casts
- 27:38Speaker 3: and they have some other people that they could bring
- 27:40Speaker 3: in to try.
- 27:40Speaker 2: To fill that DH roll. So he's got to stay
- 27:43Speaker 2: healthy and he's got a hit.
- 27:46Speaker 4: I'm not saying that Japan just walked through the first
- 27:49Speaker 4: the first their pool play, because we saw what Apple
- 27:52Speaker 4: Us in Italy they got.
- 27:53Speaker 5: You know, anybody can be.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Upset, But to me, Yoshida's doing a really good job against.
- 27:59Speaker 5: The type of that they're facing.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I mean, they faced Korea, they faced Australia, they faced
- 28:07Speaker 4: was Chechia in there too. The checks were in there,
- 28:11Speaker 4: or at least they were before either way. I want
- 28:14Speaker 4: to see Yoshida come to this next round and I
- 28:16Speaker 4: want to see him face possibly the Dominicans bullpen where
- 28:20Speaker 4: everybody throws a hundred. I want to see Yoshida face
- 28:24Speaker 4: Venezuela's top three guys out of the bullpen that are
- 28:27Speaker 4: all blowing cheese. That's where if I'm going to say
- 28:30Speaker 4: he's going to take it into the season, I'm going
- 28:32Speaker 4: to see that change where he's able to stay on
- 28:37Speaker 4: that upper velocity, top of the zone type of thing
- 28:39Speaker 4: that I think if he wants to be the guy
- 28:41Speaker 4: to take the next step and get all those dhs
- 28:45Speaker 4: for the Red Sox. That's where I would need to
- 28:47Speaker 4: see it here at the end of this WBC.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Now the Red Sox have twelve guys in the WBC
- 28:52Speaker 1: at least when the tournament started, representing their respective countries.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Some guys having a really good tournament so far. Fasten
- 29:00Speaker 1: All guys where industry meets innovation. Want to learn more,
- 29:04Speaker 1: check out fastenal dot com. That's f A S T
- 29:07Speaker 1: E n A l dot com. We'll be right back
- 29:10Speaker 1: after this. But MBM World Baseball Classic the updated outright
- 29:21Speaker 1: winner odds, guys, who are you taking? If you look
- 29:24Speaker 1: at the outright winner? Some of us are not betting people,
- 29:27Speaker 1: but one of our producers and today our director and
- 29:30Speaker 1: our producers well Japan at plus four fifty, Jeremy Meyer
- 29:33Speaker 1: was saying that maybe that's a good bet, is it?
- 29:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Yeah, value, Yeah, I think I think the value. I
- 29:44Speaker 4: think the value was before the tournament when I took
- 29:46Speaker 4: when I took the Dominican. So I'm going to keep
- 29:48Speaker 4: riding that train. Now, the numbers, the numbers moving in
- 29:51Speaker 4: the direction that they could be. Before the US got in,
- 29:54Speaker 4: they were the favorite, and then US got in and
- 29:57Speaker 4: now the US is favored again, but I think plus
- 30:00Speaker 4: four fifty for Japan, the team that's learned how to
- 30:04Speaker 4: win this tournament three different times.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's major value right there.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Eric, did you actually take did you put a bet
- 30:12Speaker 1: on the Dominican prior to the tournament starting? What were
- 30:16Speaker 1: what were the odds at that point?
- 30:18Speaker 4: I got it a plus four to fifty when I when
- 30:20Speaker 4: I bought it, So okay, so Dominicans moved, the lines moved.
- 30:24Speaker 5: What was that plus two thirty?
- 30:25Speaker 1: I think, yes, plus two thirty.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's it's moving. You see, you see where
- 30:32Speaker 4: that's moving at. I mean, after you get past there.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Can Venezuela do it? They could do it, but I
- 30:38Speaker 4: think like Venezuela Puerto Rico, they're they're just too short there.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Their bullpens too short, their lineup is a little too short.
- 30:47Speaker 4: But that's the beauty of this. Do you just have
- 30:50Speaker 4: to win three games to win the whole thing? You
- 30:52Speaker 4: don't have to win a series, you don't have to
- 30:54Speaker 4: win you have to win three games. Could Italy do it?
- 30:57Speaker 4: I mean, Italy is clearly the darling this whole thing.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Could they do it? Is Italy plus two thousand. I mean,
- 31:05Speaker 1: that's it seems pretty high for them. I think I
- 31:07Speaker 1: would I would think that they'd have, you know, better
- 31:10Speaker 1: odds in terms of them being the spoiler winning this thing.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they just won the pool, right, they
- 31:17Speaker 3: just beat the US, So that's that's one thing they have.
- 31:20Speaker 2: But I don't know if they have enough to win
- 31:22Speaker 2: the whole tournament.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I agree with these odds, but I do agree that
- 31:26Speaker 3: Japan is the is the value in this pick. Dominican
- 31:31Speaker 3: is a nice value too, But yeah, to me, if
- 31:35Speaker 3: plus four fifty a team that's won this thing three times,
- 31:37Speaker 3: I mean I can't go Italy plus two thousand. I
- 31:39Speaker 3: just as much as I love Vinyp and this whole
- 31:42Speaker 3: you know, the whole thing with the Italians in the
- 31:45Speaker 3: espresso machine and everything they got going, I just I
- 31:49Speaker 3: just think the US is the better team overall, and
- 31:51Speaker 3: I think Japan is the value in the in the
- 31:53Speaker 3: bet MGM odds.
- 31:56Speaker 1: All Right, we'll see how the shakes out. USA, Dominican Republic, Japan, Venezuela.
- 32:01Speaker 1: The top four in terms of the outright winner. According
- 32:04Speaker 1: to bet MGM and guys. Bet MGM players will receive
- 32:08Speaker 1: in any sport odds Boost token to use the token
- 32:11Speaker 1: at a wager made up of bets from any sport

- 32:16Speaker 1: win your wager that was made with the token, you
- 32:18Speaker 1: will receive extra winnings in unrestricted bonus dollars. All right, guys,
- 32:28Speaker 1: Seat Geek a shout out. Seat Geek is the number
- 32:30Speaker 1: one rated ticketing app and one player eric that you're
- 32:34Speaker 1: not going to see if you buy tickets to the
- 32:36Speaker 1: World Baseball Quarterfinals is Clay Holmes. This is just coming
- 32:39Speaker 1: out from Anthony to Como that Clay Holmes is actually
- 32:42Speaker 1: going back to pitch for the Mets in a Greapefruit
- 32:46Speaker 1: League game tomorrow. The Mets wanted him back, apparently because
- 32:49Speaker 1: tim Usa could not guarantee him the workload he needs
- 32:52Speaker 1: to build up for the season. What say you about that?
- 32:57Speaker 4: I'm saying that the Mets are saying, we're taking our
- 32:59Speaker 4: ball and we're going home. It's smart, Like if they
- 33:03Speaker 4: can't guarantee that he's going to get in, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 4: we thought maybe he should have gotten in instead of
- 33:08Speaker 4: Ryan Yarborough. You know, I don't know what that what
- 33:12Speaker 4: that discussion is like. Would he have been a better matchup.
- 33:16Speaker 4: Are we saying that because of the fact that Yards
- 33:20Speaker 4: didn't give up some runs against Italy? I don't know,
- 33:23Speaker 4: but to me, if you can't get his innings in,
- 33:25Speaker 4: you can't just stay there and throw bullpens. I don't
- 33:28Speaker 4: care who you're with. It's not like, yeah, it's totally different.
- 33:31Speaker 4: So I'm totally good with it. The Mets want to
- 33:33Speaker 4: win a World Series.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Well, this was the plan all Alonglana. This was the
- 33:39Speaker 3: plan all along. They had Mark Trussa has talked about this,
- 33:42Speaker 3: that they're going to bring in some bullpen guys, and
- 33:44Speaker 3: I think they brought in Tim Hill and Will Vest
- 33:47Speaker 3: and I forget who the third one is, but there
- 33:49Speaker 3: was there's like three bullpen arms they brought in because
- 33:51Speaker 3: I think Matthew Boyd left, I think Clay Holmes left,
- 33:54Speaker 3: and I'm not sure who the third one is. Maybe
- 33:56Speaker 3: they're counting schoobl Is that third guy. I don't know,
- 33:59Speaker 3: But this was the plan all along because now the starters,
- 34:01Speaker 3: I mean Logan Web, I bet you they're count on
- 34:03Speaker 3: a four to five innings at least maybe from Logan
- 34:06Speaker 3: Web and then use the bullpen arms and then there's
- 34:08Speaker 3: all the restrictions on the bullpen arms. So this was
- 34:10Speaker 3: kind of the plan all along, So this doesn't surprise me.
- 34:13Speaker 3: They're making this out like, oh, Clay Holmes chose to
- 34:16Speaker 3: leave and the Mets ordered him back.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Now, this is not what happened at all.
- 34:20Speaker 3: It's just he was going back because the Mets want
- 34:22Speaker 3: to stretch him out, much like the Schooble thing, which
- 34:24Speaker 3: I can't believe is a thing. I mean the fact
- 34:27Speaker 3: that you know, Trek Scooble pitched one game and everyone's like, oh,
- 34:30Speaker 3: he gave up. Would you have been happier if you
- 34:33Speaker 3: just said, no, I'm not pitching, and because I'm a
- 34:35Speaker 3: free agent and I don't want to pitch it all
- 34:37Speaker 3: for Team USA because of that, then people would be like, well,
- 34:39Speaker 3: you're the best pitcher, why don't you want to pitch? Right,
- 34:41Speaker 3: So I give Terrek Scooble credit for the fact that
- 34:44Speaker 3: he actually pitched that one game and then everyone else saying, oh,
- 34:46Speaker 3: well he should pitch again. Well, listen, he did more
- 34:49Speaker 3: than We talked to Freddy Perolta. We love Freddy Perolta.
- 34:52Speaker 3: He said he said no because he was going to
- 34:54Speaker 3: be a free agent at the end of the year
- 34:56Speaker 3: and on a new team. So listen, this was the
- 34:58Speaker 3: plan all along. I think they're also probably worth twins camp.
- 35:02Speaker 3: I think they're gonna add Joe Ryan at some point.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Uh when Again, if they keep going, I think they
- 35:07Speaker 3: can add someone else, maybe in the finals. So this
- 35:10Speaker 3: was always the plan. This shouldn't be a surprise that
- 35:12Speaker 3: people shouldn't be mad about this starting pitchers. They're running
- 35:15Speaker 3: out of need for the starting pitchers.
- 35:17Speaker 1: What about the other school of thought, guys that says,
- 35:20Speaker 1: if you commit to being on the team, you should
- 35:23Speaker 1: be there from start to finish, kind of finish what
- 35:26Speaker 1: you start the whole thing. Obviously with the terror schoobl
- 35:28Speaker 1: And I know that you just covered it, AJ, But
- 35:31Speaker 1: is there some validity to that argument, Eric.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I mean, I guess there's some validity, Yeah, but I
- 35:38Speaker 4: don't think that's when you're talking about guys needing to
- 35:41Speaker 4: get ready for their season pictures. Now, position players you
- 35:45Speaker 4: can't have. You can't have position players bailing like oh,
- 35:48Speaker 4: we had this guy playing shortstop and then he's like,
- 35:53Speaker 4: you know what, I want to go get some meaningless
- 35:55Speaker 4: at bats and spring training with my team like like that.
- 35:59Speaker 4: That won't happened. But pitchers, it's very fluid. There's no
- 36:03Speaker 4: need to keep Matthew Boyd on the team because of
- 36:05Speaker 4: the fact he was used. He was used correctly. And
- 36:10Speaker 4: then they rebuild their bullpen. All the teams are doing it.
- 36:12Speaker 4: They rebuild the bullpen to be a little bit different
- 36:15Speaker 4: for the next round. So no, I don't think so
- 36:18Speaker 4: as much as I tell kids, hey, you commit to
- 36:21Speaker 4: playing for a team, You're on that team till the
- 36:23Speaker 4: end of the season, even if you want to quit
- 36:24Speaker 4: during the year. That's not at all what's happening here.
- 36:30Speaker 3: But I don't I don't love that analogy because this
- 36:32Speaker 3: is not this is the plan.
- 36:34Speaker 2: This was the plan. Like they didn't quit, like nobody
- 36:37Speaker 2: quit on their team.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Now nobody quit quit.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Nobody said I don't want to I don't want to
- 36:41Speaker 3: be here. R School was like, I still want to
- 36:42Speaker 3: be there. I want to come back if they make
- 36:44Speaker 3: it to the finals, to watch the game in the dugout.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Like nobody's quitting. This isn't a quitting thing at all.
- 36:49Speaker 3: This is a I got to get ready for my season,
- 36:52Speaker 3: which is where I make my living with my team.
- 36:56Speaker 3: So if you were at a job, Alana and Eric,
- 36:59Speaker 3: if you worked at a job and the and this
- 37:01Speaker 3: place said, hey, we have an opportunity for you to
- 37:03Speaker 3: do some really fun for your country. Let's say you,
- 37:06Speaker 3: I don't know, you work at fasten All, okay, and
- 37:08Speaker 3: they and Fastenal says, you're making this is where you
- 37:12Speaker 3: make your money. If you're making them throwing the random numbers.
- 37:14Speaker 3: You make one hundred grand at fasten All, okay. And
- 37:16Speaker 3: then the USA for some reason has an equipment metal
- 37:20Speaker 3: screwing competition on and you're like, hey, you can come
- 37:23Speaker 3: here and make ten grand for this week, but there's
- 37:26Speaker 3: a chance you can get hurt. But we're okay with
- 37:29Speaker 3: you doing it for a limit of time. But the
- 37:30Speaker 3: plan is if you make it to the third round,
- 37:31Speaker 3: we're going to bring in the other guy. Okay, they
- 37:34Speaker 3: didn't quit. They just did what they're supposed to do
- 37:36Speaker 3: because they're going back to their team that where they
- 37:39Speaker 3: make their living and try to do the thing, which
- 37:41Speaker 3: is when the World series.
- 37:42Speaker 2: So I don't like the cole.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Let's not say the quitting because nobody quit, Okay, nobody
- 37:46Speaker 3: on their team.
- 37:47Speaker 2: This was the plan.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I don't think any of us were saying that anybody
- 37:50Speaker 1: was quitting. Let me ask you this, though, AJ who
- 37:52Speaker 1: has the final say, because if you look at the
- 37:55Speaker 1: met situation with Clay Holmes, which to your point, was
- 37:58Speaker 1: the plan, intended plan all the way. He's going back
- 38:01Speaker 1: to pitch in a grape Fruit League game. But Sandy
- 38:03Speaker 1: al Contra, who is a member and an employee of
- 38:06Speaker 1: the Miami Marlins, said that he is going to pitch
- 38:09Speaker 1: no matter what, as a reliever, as a starter. He
- 38:12Speaker 1: is going to be there for the long haul. What
- 38:14Speaker 1: if the Marlins say the hell you are and ask
- 38:17Speaker 1: him to come back, who has the say in that?
- 38:19Speaker 2: The team?
- 38:20Speaker 3: The team ultimately has to say I believe because I've
- 38:22Speaker 3: been denied playing in this original one. So from the
- 38:25Speaker 3: team and teams can say no, the insurance can say no. Now,
- 38:28Speaker 3: the teams don't use that a lot because this scene
- 38:30Speaker 3: has gotten bigger and bigger and they know how important
- 38:33Speaker 3: it is to the players. But like people are saying, oh,
- 38:35Speaker 3: why didn't they bring in Clay Holmes against Italy instead
- 38:38Speaker 3: of Ryan Yarbro, Well, he wasn't eligible to pitch, and
- 38:40Speaker 3: the Mets wouldn't like that because he's going to be
- 38:42Speaker 3: a starting pitcher and they need him on his five
- 38:44Speaker 3: day routine to get ready to start for the New
- 38:46Speaker 3: York Mets. Not pitch on Saturday against Great Britain and
- 38:50Speaker 3: then come back and pitch on Tuesday. That's not his routine.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Sandy's a little bit different. Sandy has a long term contract.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Sandy might have a little more power than other players
- 39:00Speaker 3: just because of his name and his recognition, and he's
- 39:02Speaker 3: won some awards in the past. I don't know, but
- 39:05Speaker 3: I'm sure the Marlins aren't super happy that Sandy al
- 39:07Speaker 3: Contra went to him and said, I'm pitching in relief
- 39:09Speaker 3: for this, because they're gonna want him to start an
- 39:11Speaker 3: opening day and they're gonna need him stretched out and
- 39:14Speaker 3: ready to go. Because if we were at Marlins camp,
- 39:16Speaker 3: they're talking about being competitive this year and they're pitching
- 39:19Speaker 3: is what they're counting on. So I'm sure they're not
- 39:21Speaker 3: super excited about. But it's it's kind of what we
- 39:24Speaker 3: keep going back to though the American team deals. I
- 39:27Speaker 3: feel like, and this.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Probably people say it's not true.
- 39:30Speaker 3: The rules are the rules, but I feel like the
- 39:33Speaker 3: American team has to answer more rules and more limitations
- 39:37Speaker 3: than some of the other teams.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Well, they also want Sandy al Contra to be healthy.
- 39:41Speaker 1: The Marlins do, so they have some value with him
- 39:44Speaker 1: when they try to trade him at the deadline. That's
- 39:46Speaker 1: just my editorializing. And of course, you guys, I have
- 39:49Speaker 1: a code for all of you. You can use code
- 39:51Speaker 1: Territory ten for ten percent off your next set of
- 39:55Speaker 1: tickets at seat Geek. That's ten percent off any tickets
- 39:58Speaker 1: with promo code. Make sure you click the link in
- 40:02Speaker 1: the description to download the app and have the code
- 40:04Speaker 1: automatically added to your account so you can use it.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Let's keep talking a little bit about this in terms
- 40:12Speaker 1: of the guys going back to their respective teams. When
- 40:17Speaker 1: you say aj that you think Team USA perhaps has
- 40:19Speaker 1: a little bit more restrictions on them, why do you
- 40:23Speaker 1: think that is? Is it the contracts given to these players?
- 40:26Speaker 1: Although you know other guys with Venezuela Dominican they have
- 40:29Speaker 1: massive deals as well. But why do you think that is?
- 40:31Speaker 1: Is just the governing body for Team USA Baseball stricter.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I just think that they listen a little bit more.
- 40:38Speaker 3: I don't say it's stricter, but I also heard a
- 40:40Speaker 3: rumor that other countries have called the teams back and
- 40:43Speaker 3: been like, I'm using your guy wherever I want. They're
- 40:44Speaker 3: on my team, and I'm using them if I want
- 40:46Speaker 3: to use them as a reliever, as a starter two
- 40:48Speaker 3: innings back to back, whatever it is. So and also
- 40:50Speaker 3: other A lot of the other teams don't have now
- 40:53Speaker 3: Dominica and Venezuela, and I would say I'll use you.
- 40:55Speaker 3: In Japan they have you. Do you have some guys
- 40:58Speaker 3: I e. Clayton Kershaw that are not under club control
- 41:01Speaker 3: and they can do whatever they want. So if you're
- 41:02Speaker 3: not a big leaguer under on a forty man roster
- 41:05Speaker 3: that's going to be in a big league you have
- 41:07Speaker 3: different restrictions than other teams do. Most of these guys
- 41:10Speaker 3: that are left are obviously under a big league team control.
- 41:12Speaker 2: So it's just I don't know.
- 41:14Speaker 3: I feel like we just hear about it more with
- 41:16Speaker 3: the US, and I feel like they use that more
- 41:18Speaker 3: of a I don't want to say as a crutch,
- 41:20Speaker 3: but more of a thing than what you hear from
- 41:22Speaker 3: some of the other teams when they talk about it.
- 41:24Speaker 2: I don't know if that's true or not.
- 41:26Speaker 3: It just seems like they're under a little bit more tight,
- 41:29Speaker 3: tighter grasp than the other teams.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Do we know If Clay Holmes was available to pitch
- 41:34Speaker 1: for Team USA, to kind of get some of that
- 41:36Speaker 1: work in. I know Mark de Rosa was warming Clayton Kershaw.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Was Clay Holmes not available because of usage for every reason?
- 41:43Speaker 3: No, because he's under he Mark de Rosa is basically
- 41:47Speaker 3: given who he can pitch every night, who he can't pitch,
- 41:50Speaker 3: and who he cannot pitch.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Right.
- 41:52Speaker 3: He is given here's the guys who are available for
- 41:54Speaker 3: this game tonight. You can pitch these guys you can't
- 41:58Speaker 3: use certain guys back to back, can't use. Certain guys
- 42:01Speaker 3: need two days arrest instead of one day of the
- 42:02Speaker 3: rest if they want to pitch. The starters have to
- 42:05Speaker 3: pitch every fifth day. And what were they doing in
- 42:07Speaker 3: the in the pool play they were piggybacking starters. Look
- 42:10Speaker 3: at Logan Web and uh it was Logan Web and
- 42:12Speaker 3: then they brought in uh jeez, I forget who anyways,
- 42:16Speaker 3: but the second Great Britain was uh Schooble play homes right,
- 42:21Speaker 3: then it was Skeens Matthew Boyd right, and then it
- 42:24Speaker 3: was McClain, uh Yarborough. So they were piggybacking starters. That's
- 42:29Speaker 3: how they got through the pool play. Now they're a
- 42:31Speaker 3: little bit more stretched out, they can go a few
- 42:33Speaker 3: more innings, and now that what they do. They brought
- 42:35Speaker 3: in bullpen help so he can get cover innings with
- 42:37Speaker 3: his bullpen.
- 42:38Speaker 1: And those directives are coming directly from the team, like
- 42:42Speaker 1: you can't pitch my guy back to back day, you
- 42:44Speaker 1: can't stretch him out, you know, more than thirty five
- 42:47Speaker 1: pitches in a certain outing or whatever, and more.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Than twenty five pitches in an inning. Alana, there's another
- 42:52Speaker 2: thing that they've they're's that they're right.
- 42:58Speaker 3: No, that's the MLB teams telling Mark de Rosa that
- 43:01Speaker 3: he can't that he can't pitch guys relievers more than
- 43:05Speaker 3: if they get to twenty five pitches, they have to
- 43:07Speaker 3: come out. And then he's like, well, I don't have
- 43:08Speaker 3: anybody who can start clean innings. Are dirty innings. Everyone's
- 43:11Speaker 3: supposed to start a clean inning. That's the other parts.
- 43:15Speaker 3: There's there's a lot, listen, there's a lot.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah, So, Eric, is that the reason why Clayton Kershaw
- 43:23Speaker 1: and James Paxon, those types of guys are so valuable
- 43:25Speaker 1: perhaps to some of these WBC teams because they're not
- 43:28Speaker 1: beholden to a major league team anymore because they've retired
- 43:32Speaker 1: or whatever their their situation may be But you know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: Mark de Rosa joked or Clayton joked that he was gonna,
- 43:37Speaker 1: you know, kind of a break the glass and emergency
- 43:39Speaker 1: type of situation. But there's role. There's a role for
- 43:43Speaker 1: that too, is there not?
- 43:44Speaker 5: There is?
- 43:45Speaker 4: And when you're you're not circumventing the rules, but you're
- 43:49Speaker 4: you're circumventing the rules that the teams are putting out there.
- 43:52Speaker 4: Because WBC says you can only throw sixty five pitches
- 43:55Speaker 4: if you're a starter, that's across all WBC doesn't matter
- 43:58Speaker 4: what team. So then when teams say we can't go
- 44:01Speaker 4: over twenty five pitches, that's normal. That's normal in spring training.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Like you, hey, you always get this one from the dugout.
- 44:09Speaker 4: When a guy gets to twenty pitches in a spring
- 44:11Speaker 4: training outing, why because they got to go get number
- 44:14Speaker 4: ninety eight, who is the jick, the justin case guy
- 44:17Speaker 4: out of the bullpen ready to go.
- 44:19Speaker 5: They're able to control it more. And so if there's.
- 44:22Speaker 4: Teams give you those stipulations, d row Aaron judge schemes.
- 44:30Speaker 4: The guys that recruited these pitchers, they know that this
- 44:34Speaker 4: is the rules, and so they have to recruit guys
- 44:37Speaker 4: that one can throw strikes and can get out of
- 44:39Speaker 4: the inning before twenty five pitches, which is usually the
- 44:42Speaker 4: team's limits. And two you need a guy like Clayton
- 44:46Speaker 4: Kershaw to be on the team because there will be
- 44:49Speaker 4: those blips in the radar, there will be the long
- 44:51Speaker 4: at bats and so it's yeah, it's tough.
- 44:55Speaker 5: It's not just here, go out and play.
- 44:58Speaker 4: It can be there's so many stipulations and regulations set
- 45:02Speaker 4: by different teams.
- 45:03Speaker 1: This is powered by Fox One.
- 45:05Speaker 4: There he is, can you guys now, I'll introduce them.
- 45:10Speaker 4: Where is Where does d R Gear Julio Borbone first
- 45:13Speaker 4: base coach Pimento Basse for the Dominican Republic ex teammate
- 45:19Speaker 4: mine and also.
- 45:21Speaker 5: The Brewers first base coach too. Like I said before, what's.
- 45:25Speaker 7: Up, guys, thanks for having me on. I'm really excited,
- 45:27Speaker 7: big fan of the show.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Thanks, thank you.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Holy I'm really glad that Krafts could get ahold of
- 45:35Speaker 3: you because I only saw you like seven times in
- 45:37Speaker 3: the airport of Phoenix, and you didn't ask me one
- 45:40Speaker 3: time to bring you on the show. So you must
- 45:42Speaker 3: have reached out to Krafts because you know Krauts is like, oh,
- 45:44Speaker 3: ex teammate Julio and I played together two crouds. Let's
- 45:48Speaker 3: not forget that we played together.
- 45:49Speaker 8: Well, you look like you were quite busy moving all
- 45:51Speaker 8: over the place.
- 45:52Speaker 7: You told me you used to have Florida going on,
- 45:53Speaker 7: so I'm like, man, there's quite a bit. So maybe
- 45:56Speaker 7: we'll catch up and do a little bit of this
- 45:57Speaker 7: later on down the road. But here we are WBC,
- 46:00Speaker 7: so pretty ecstatic about this opportunity.
- 46:03Speaker 8: In what we're in the middle of right now. So
- 46:06Speaker 8: exciting times.
- 46:08Speaker 4: Yeah, when I saw you coach a first base when
- 46:11Speaker 4: you guys were down in dr for the exhibition games,
- 46:14Speaker 4: it kind of brought me full circle from when we
- 46:17Speaker 4: played for the Aggie Luccos and we were playing against
- 46:19Speaker 4: lise In in that same exact stadium in Santa Domingo,
- 46:24Speaker 4: And it was cool to have you on that team
- 46:26Speaker 4: because you could give kind of the perspective where you
- 46:29Speaker 4: lived in You lived in America going to the University
- 46:32Speaker 4: of Tennessee, but you knew the country, you knew the heritage,
- 46:35Speaker 4: and to see you there, what was that experience like
- 46:39Speaker 4: before we start getting into the actual tournament.
- 46:42Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a key word you mentioned, full circle, even
- 46:44Speaker 7: for me as a as a kid growing up there
- 46:47Speaker 7: and being around all these figures, you know, even the
- 46:49Speaker 7: one Mary Joel's, David Ortiz and you know pretty much
- 46:52Speaker 7: everybody that's around here are club bells. Now, those are
- 46:54Speaker 7: guys that I got to got a chance to watch
- 46:56Speaker 7: when I was a kid myself, and you know, to
- 46:58Speaker 7: be able to be a part of this happing around
- 47:00Speaker 7: this great group of players and seeing us being able
- 47:03Speaker 7: to bring those guys down there like me as a
- 47:05Speaker 7: kid was able to watch them was pretty special, even
- 47:07Speaker 7: for myself.
- 47:08Speaker 8: So I was pretty happy and ecstatic about that, and just.
- 47:11Speaker 7: You know, over the moon with the situation we're in,
- 47:14Speaker 7: and you know, excited to kind of keep this thing going.
- 47:17Speaker 4: All right, Well, you're the first base coach. Some people
- 47:19Speaker 4: think the first base coach is just a dude that
- 47:21Speaker 4: carries all the drip and the swag that all the
- 47:24Speaker 4: hitters get after they get a knot. Now, and don't
- 47:26Speaker 4: let me wrong, Dominican, You guys might lead the league
- 47:29Speaker 4: in chrome. You're carrying a lot of stuff, like they
- 47:32Speaker 4: need a wheelbarrower for you. But my question, because I
- 47:35Speaker 4: know how good you are a picking tips of pitchers
- 47:38Speaker 4: for stealing bases all that stuff, have they put a
- 47:41Speaker 4: rain on you have they put the rains on you
- 47:43Speaker 4: where you're like, look like we can drive guys in
- 47:45Speaker 4: from the parking lot. Don't let these guys run, because
- 47:49Speaker 4: I also see Juan Soto's out here.
- 47:51Speaker 5: He wants to be a forty forty fifty to fifty
- 47:54Speaker 5: kind of guy.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Like is there a given take there or are you
- 47:58Speaker 4: just full car blaunch and you do what you want
- 48:01Speaker 4: to do for sure.
- 48:03Speaker 7: Given the nature of the structure of this tournament too, Eric,
- 48:05Speaker 7: it's like, you know, there's so few games and we
- 48:08Speaker 7: are trying to capitalize on everything.
- 48:10Speaker 8: Yeah, there's a.
- 48:11Speaker 7: Little bit of rain where we can kind of take
- 48:12Speaker 7: take opportunities when the shots are there. But as far
- 48:15Speaker 7: as our roster, our lineup, I mean, you see the
- 48:17Speaker 7: way it's structured, like there's a lot of opportunities offensively
- 48:20Speaker 7: without having to go the extra bag. There's been some
- 48:22Speaker 7: opportunities where you know, we've we've kind of put guys
- 48:24Speaker 7: on the run given certain situations. And you know, even
- 48:27Speaker 7: having the opportunity to work closely with Pools and his
- 48:29Speaker 7: staff has been.
- 48:30Speaker 8: Has been phenomenal, just to learn his style.
- 48:32Speaker 7: And and the things that he wants to do and
- 48:34Speaker 7: how he wants to approach his tournament given that, you
- 48:36Speaker 7: know the phase that we're in now. It's pretty much
- 48:38Speaker 7: one game and then you keep moving. So we have
- 48:41Speaker 7: to be smarter. We have to kind of make sure
- 48:43Speaker 7: we're taking advantage of the things that are there in
- 48:44Speaker 7: front of us, but also keeping in mind who's who's ahead.
- 48:48Speaker 7: As you'll know, our lineup from top to bottom. Those
- 48:50Speaker 7: are things that we kind of always have to keep
- 48:51Speaker 7: in mind.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Your lineup is unbelievable top to bottom. There is not
- 48:55Speaker 1: a hole in the lineup. And Julio, you know baseball
- 48:58Speaker 1: very well. Obviously you've been a part of it in
- 49:00Speaker 1: the Dominican Republic, You've played parts of five seasons in
- 49:02Speaker 1: the United States. You're a baseball man. And we always
- 49:06Speaker 1: talk about with the WBC how much it means to
- 49:08Speaker 1: the players to put on the jersey representing their country.
- 49:11Speaker 1: What's the biggest difference in your mind for the Latin
- 49:14Speaker 1: player versus maybe, you know, guys not from the Dominican
- 49:17Speaker 1: or Venezuela or Puerto Rico or the you know, Cuba,
- 49:20Speaker 1: those types of places.
- 49:22Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a great question. It's something that is always
- 49:24Speaker 8: been a hot topic.
- 49:25Speaker 7: It's it's just as Eric was mentioning earlier, it's just
- 49:27Speaker 7: it's just a lifestyle down in the in the dr
- 49:30Speaker 7: the way that everybody's brought up there is it's just different,
- 49:33Speaker 7: like it brings joy unity, it's it's.
- 49:36Speaker 8: The way that people kind of live and go about it.
- 49:39Speaker 7: Even throughout my experience of as a player, the support
- 49:41Speaker 7: that I got from the Dominican people, you know, even
- 49:44Speaker 7: the years that I got a chance to play down there.
- 49:46Speaker 7: You know, just walking down the street, how they recognize
- 49:48Speaker 7: you you're doing well, they all, you know, want to
- 49:51Speaker 7: just praise you. If you're not, they want to let
- 49:52Speaker 7: you know what you're doing wrong. Everybody wants to be
- 49:54Speaker 7: a hitting coach. So it's kind of just a fun
- 49:56Speaker 7: thing that you got to kind of have to understand
- 49:58Speaker 7: and embrace because a lot of us grew up seeing that,
- 50:02Speaker 7: watching all the players that I mentioned from previous generations
- 50:05Speaker 7: and you know, the Vladdie Juniors, the Fernando Tatteas, all
- 50:08Speaker 7: those guys among other ones that have grown up in clubhouses.
- 50:11Speaker 7: They've seen a lot of things that you know, they're
- 50:13Speaker 7: not phased by it, and it's kind of cool just
- 50:15Speaker 7: to see come in full circle and the way that
- 50:18Speaker 7: they enjoy the game is something that I think brings
- 50:20Speaker 7: the most out of them and definitely the country when
- 50:22Speaker 7: it comes to bringing people together.
- 50:25Speaker 4: Who's the most impressive that you've seen in your lineup,
- 50:27Speaker 4: whether it's as a person, as a player, anybody that
- 50:31Speaker 4: you haven't interacted with before this WBC run that you
- 50:35Speaker 4: guys are making.
- 50:36Speaker 7: Fernando Tatis obviously had a chance to have Julio and
- 50:39Speaker 7: Soto last last WBC and got a chance to work
- 50:42Speaker 7: with them closely. Fernando watching him, you know the work
- 50:45Speaker 7: he puts into little details, just the way he wants
- 50:48Speaker 7: to position himself in the outfield. Obviously, you have to
- 50:51Speaker 7: keep in mind all these guys are great athletes, so
- 50:53Speaker 7: watching the work ethic, the things that we talk about,
- 50:56Speaker 7: the things that they point out, even going into the game,
- 50:59Speaker 7: noticing details of the game, instud that you know, he's
- 51:01Speaker 7: been around a baseball man like his father and just
- 51:04Speaker 7: been watching baseball from a different perspective, and it's just
- 51:07Speaker 7: been cold listening to him, and obviously you know the
- 51:09Speaker 7: whole roster. Obviously, seeing everybody come together is very easy
- 51:13Speaker 7: to forget that among.
- 51:14Speaker 8: All these superstars.
- 51:15Speaker 7: Obviously they're still a big challenge and these guys have
- 51:18Speaker 7: been able to overcome that, just being able to put
- 51:20Speaker 7: their egos aside and understand that they're all coming for
- 51:22Speaker 7: one purpose.
- 51:24Speaker 5: All right.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Do the guys make fun of Austin Wells on the team,
- 51:29Speaker 4: because like you're talking like Dominican royalty, and then you
- 51:32Speaker 4: got Austin Wells, which I kind of connect with, Like
- 51:35Speaker 4: I'm like, I feel like he's the gringo that comes
- 51:38Speaker 4: down to play winter ball and catches and then everyone
- 51:40Speaker 4: else is like, hey, come on, Greeno, We're gonna make
- 51:43Speaker 4: you some Dominican food and all that stuff. But then
- 51:45Speaker 4: they give him a hard time or has he assimilated
- 51:48Speaker 4: well into the group.
- 51:50Speaker 8: He's been in awesome. It's been a big topic.
- 51:52Speaker 7: I've actually had quite a few discussions with him about
- 51:55Speaker 7: the culture. Obviously his mother being from Dominican. It's been
- 51:58Speaker 7: kind of cool seeing everything you mention it because while
- 52:01Speaker 7: we were down in d R like one of the
- 52:02Speaker 7: coolest things and this is kind of to kind of
- 52:04Speaker 7: encapsulate everything about the Dominican culture when it comes to
- 52:07Speaker 7: and embracing people and welcoming.
- 52:09Speaker 8: Then they they were.
- 52:10Speaker 7: Chanting Bay most primo, Like I mean, the whole stadium
- 52:13Speaker 7: broke out.
- 52:14Speaker 8: It was like, let's go cuzin.
- 52:16Speaker 7: And it's like you're one of us, you know, like
- 52:18Speaker 7: they know that he took took on the opportunity to
- 52:21Speaker 7: represent us and and fight for this cause and be
- 52:24Speaker 7: able to kind of give it everything.
- 52:26Speaker 8: And he's enjoyed it. He's taking everything in.
- 52:28Speaker 7: I know some things are moving a little faster, given
- 52:30Speaker 7: just the way the tournament works, but but he's he's
- 52:33Speaker 7: enjoyed it, he's having fun. I think it's going to
- 52:35Speaker 7: be something that he's going to cherish and never forget.
- 52:40Speaker 1: All right, so the Dominican, the Dominican moves on to
- 52:44Speaker 1: the semi finals if they do what correctly.
- 52:48Speaker 7: I think the little things that from here on on,
- 52:50Speaker 7: you know, there's a lot of fundamental baseball understanding, you know,
- 52:53Speaker 7: the situational hitting understanding, you know, like the execution of
- 52:57Speaker 7: plays obviously from the defense of the offense standpoint of pitching,
- 53:01Speaker 7: which has been a big part of us. I think
- 53:03Speaker 7: I think, as you guys know, once these tournaments go
- 53:05Speaker 7: down to just one game, obviously the offensive output has
- 53:08Speaker 7: been there. But now a lot of these games obviously
- 53:11Speaker 7: have a chance of be being played a lot closer.
- 53:13Speaker 7: So we got to be paying attention to a lot
- 53:15Speaker 7: of things, from backing up, you know, doing doing all
- 53:18Speaker 7: those things, executing, making sure the owls that are given
- 53:20Speaker 7: to us we take them and just run hard.
- 53:23Speaker 8: You know, everything that we've been able to do.
- 53:25Speaker 7: Just make sure we keep doing it because some of
- 53:27Speaker 7: those runs are obviously going to be scars now and
- 53:29Speaker 7: we got to kind of take advantage of that.
- 53:31Speaker 5: All right.
- 53:32Speaker 4: You and I have been texting trying to get you
- 53:33Speaker 4: on the show for the last week. Your schedules a
- 53:35Speaker 4: little bit different. One of the other hats that you
- 53:37Speaker 4: wear is you're like the field coordinator kind of thing
- 53:41Speaker 4: that you.
- 53:41Speaker 5: You coordinate the schedule.
- 53:43Speaker 4: And the one thing you told me was, hey, pool
- 53:46Speaker 4: hosts wants to have pfps, you know, so that they
- 53:49Speaker 4: can get it you guys can get it done before
- 53:51Speaker 4: you know, these these final games. And then they threw
- 53:56Speaker 4: one away last night. Were you like, hey, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 54:00Speaker 5: I scheduled that, I scheduled the pfps.
- 54:02Speaker 4: What are we doing here when when Elvis, when Elvis
- 54:05Speaker 4: Alvarado threw it away. You guys ultimately ended up winning,
- 54:08Speaker 4: but maybe you didn't. Maybe you didn't schedule good enough
- 54:11Speaker 4: PfP like you told me, you were going.
- 54:13Speaker 8: To Yeah, it's funny. It was a topic for sure.
- 54:16Speaker 8: After the game. We actually have it again today.
- 54:18Speaker 7: Pools has been awesome and making sure that despite the powerhousing,
- 54:22Speaker 7: the lineup that we have in bullpen and arms like
- 54:24Speaker 7: that we do stay on top of those details.
- 54:26Speaker 8: He's been awesome with that. We have it again today.
- 54:28Speaker 7: We're going to continue to have that the further we
- 54:30Speaker 7: go because we understand that winning these games these things
- 54:33Speaker 7: matter and you know, obviously unfortunately that that was one
- 54:36Speaker 7: that reflected, but it's also a good reminder that you know,
- 54:39Speaker 7: even when you don't do everything, like some things, sometimes
- 54:42Speaker 7: it doesn't work out. But one thing that guarantees not
- 54:45Speaker 7: succeeding is not preparing. And one thing that we're going
- 54:47Speaker 7: to do and make sure that we have these guys
- 54:49Speaker 7: is on top of those details. Because obviously they have
- 54:51Speaker 7: the talent, but when it comes to coming together, especially
- 54:53Speaker 7: this group who hasn't seen each other being around for
- 54:56Speaker 7: as long as we would like to, we got to
- 54:58Speaker 7: kind of keep staying on top with that. And and
- 55:00Speaker 7: we're gonna reiterate that we're going to do it again
- 55:02Speaker 7: today and any chance we get on practice days, we're
- 55:05Speaker 7: going to continue to do it.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Best dancer on the team. You guys are having a
- 55:09Speaker 1: flipping party all all by doing the things the right
- 55:13Speaker 1: way too, You're you're producing, so you're allowed. Got Nelson Cruz,
- 55:16Speaker 1: all right? So who is who's the Who's the best dancer?
- 55:22Speaker 8: Fernando has to be at the top there. I think
- 55:24Speaker 8: just you know the way, he's just so gifted. He
- 55:28Speaker 8: just moves the way his body. He's he's very gifted.
- 55:31Speaker 8: He's a dancer. Maybe his mom taught him. I think
- 55:34Speaker 8: it comes from runs in the family. But he's got
- 55:36Speaker 8: to be at the top for me.
- 55:39Speaker 3: Polliu Mike Kerrman should not be allowed to dance or
- 55:42Speaker 3: in any videos. He is not from Dominican. Okay, we're
- 55:45Speaker 3: at Twins camp. He is not Dominican. I know Nelly
- 55:48Speaker 3: brought him in as the travel traveling secretary for the
- 55:51Speaker 3: Dominican He should not be allowed to be in any
- 55:53Speaker 3: videos or ever dance.
- 55:55Speaker 7: Hey, he's at his handful man with this tournament, and
- 55:57Speaker 7: he I think given the fact that he's already this,
- 56:00Speaker 7: he understands the logistics. But yeah, he's enjoyed it. He's
- 56:03Speaker 7: one guy who's taking it off all the time about
- 56:06Speaker 7: everything that when it comes to hotels, rooms.
- 56:09Speaker 8: Or any list In earlier I've been doing a little
- 56:13Speaker 8: bit of that.
- 56:13Speaker 7: I've been working closely with him, and even from my
- 56:15Speaker 7: twins days, we know each other.
- 56:17Speaker 8: So I'll make sure I relay that message and let
- 56:20Speaker 8: him know here in a little bit before we leave.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Right, last one for me, Albert Poolhos you mentioned it
- 56:26Speaker 4: before his name's been brought up, and be a big
- 56:29Speaker 4: league manager. You've seen what it takes to be a
- 56:31Speaker 4: big league manager. Does he have it? And if he does?
- 56:35Speaker 4: If he does, what's the one thing that he needs
- 56:37Speaker 4: to work on a little bit before he really gets
- 56:40Speaker 4: that solidified role.
- 56:42Speaker 8: I think rules absolutely has it.
- 56:44Speaker 7: I think that his presence obviously everything as far as
- 56:46Speaker 7: his restimen speaks for itself. The way he commands the room,
- 56:49Speaker 7: the way he interacts with players as a group of individually.
- 56:52Speaker 8: Has been for me very eye opening.
- 56:54Speaker 7: I've been able to take away quite a bit from
- 56:57Speaker 7: that interaction. Obviously, not ever haven't been able to be
- 56:59Speaker 7: a part of his staff or work closely with him.
- 57:01Speaker 8: Has been has been pretty cool.
- 57:03Speaker 7: As far as something that I think it needs to work,
- 57:05Speaker 7: I think I think it's just continue to get more
- 57:07Speaker 7: experience I think one thing is to you know, have
- 57:10Speaker 7: had played, and another one with the things that he's
- 57:12Speaker 7: already done, having one down in the dr being able
- 57:15Speaker 7: to understand like the things that go on in the game.
- 57:17Speaker 7: He's he's kind of getting everything now kind of checked
- 57:19Speaker 7: off as far as those things. So but thinking about it, like,
- 57:23Speaker 7: I think he's as prepared as anybody.
- 57:25Speaker 8: And that's one thing that he does.
- 57:26Speaker 7: He's constantly you know, wanting me to do certain things
- 57:28Speaker 7: about the schedule, we're staying on top of, We're giving
- 57:30Speaker 7: ideas and and ironically to one thing that surprised me
- 57:33Speaker 7: is like he he wants to back and forth. It's
- 57:35Speaker 7: not like just a one way of the highway, which
- 57:37Speaker 7: has been cool. He you know, he wants in, but
- 57:39Speaker 7: he wants to make sure that everybody any ideas that
- 57:42Speaker 7: we have were bringing forth and that we're we're very
- 57:44Speaker 7: open to him because he understands that there's some blind sponsors,
- 57:47Speaker 7: things that despite what he's done.
- 57:49Speaker 8: That he might not be might not be able to see.
- 57:51Speaker 7: And I think I think he's as ready as as
- 57:53Speaker 7: anybody can be with with what he's accomplished so far.
- 57:56Speaker 4: So Julio, thank you so much for your time. It's
- 57:59Speaker 4: good to see your beautiful face again, and good luck
- 58:02Speaker 4: in these next three games.
- 58:04Speaker 8: Thanks guys, thanks for having me.

- 58:47Speaker 1: on the road. He is in Florida, but he will
- 58:50Speaker 1: be at Red Sox camp tomorrow. A lot of excitement
- 58:54Speaker 1: there when you're looking at the guys that are participating
- 58:56Speaker 1: in the WBC, particularly their position players. While you're a
- 58:59Speaker 1: brave you Jared Ran, Roman, Anthony so on and so on,
- 59:02Speaker 1: a j what are you most looking forward to when
- 59:04Speaker 1: you sit down and talk to these guys, just.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Seeing how they reacted to the offseason. The Red Sox
- 59:10Speaker 3: went out and got a bunch of pitching. They traded
- 59:13Speaker 3: for Contreras, who's obviously still in the WBC, but just
- 59:17Speaker 3: sitting down talking to him and how they can get
- 59:18Speaker 3: better because they made the postseason last year. They had
- 59:20Speaker 3: one of the best pitcher starting pitchers and one of
- 59:22Speaker 3: the best starting rotations in baseball. Let's see if they
- 59:25Speaker 3: can continue it and make take the next step, because
- 59:28Speaker 3: that's what all Red Sox fans expect at this point.
- 59:31Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't do a ton, and they had a
- 59:32Speaker 1: lot of money and didn't do a ton with it. Obviously,
- 59:35Speaker 1: Alex Fregman is now a member of the Cubs. Rafael
- 59:37Speaker 1: Dever's the money and he's in San Francisco all right.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Time now for krats hats? What do you have? Kay?
- 59:48Speaker 4: Right, I'm gonna wear all my spring training hats except
- 59:51Speaker 4: when we do our postgame shows. It's so sick. I
- 59:55Speaker 4: didn't I didn't really show it before. But they got
- 59:57Speaker 4: the They got the nice insignia on all the Florida hats,
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: and then the Florida ones on the side also has
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: a palm tree twenty six doing.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: It right, Yeah, the Cactus League ones with the cacti
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: kind of look like a little emoji or thing with
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: the like Super Mario Brothers. It's a little strange.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: I think great.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: I think great for the league looks a little bit better.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: All right, guys, appreciate it. I think tomorrow is an
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: all players show. So we have a d we have Todd,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: we have e K. They've kicked got Brondo the curb apparently.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Great to be with you guys today.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Enjoy.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Don't forget Dodgers' territory. Coming up three pm Eastern, myself
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: and Katie Wu we're gonna be talking about the Padres
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: as one of the threats to the Dodgers in the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: National League. All right, guys, be well, talk to you soon.
