Latest / Fanatically Speaking with Kent / Patriots–Seahawks Super Bowl Preview And Sheduer Sanders is a Pro Bowler?
Transcript
- 0:13All right, what's up, everybody? Welcome to another
- 0:15episode of Fanatically Speaking. I'm Kent, the
- 0:17cohost and promoter. I am log off the log off
- 0:21legend, the hater of all things social media.
- 0:23I am the cohost and producer of the show. And
- 0:28after a quick break from the NFL, our one NBA
- 0:31episode, we're right back to the NFL because
- 0:34we got to talk about these conference championship
- 0:37games that just happened last weekend and do
- 0:40a little Super Bowl preview. and what it all
- 0:43means, those games that happened, the conference
- 0:45championships and what this all means on what
- 0:48the possibilities of this, what could be the
- 0:51outcome of a Superbowl. Yeah. And I mean, it
- 0:54was a good, I enjoyed the games over the weekend.
- 0:57I mean, the thing that makes the NFL so great
- 1:01and it's so much bigger than other sports is
- 1:03because the games are so huge. They get massive
- 1:06ratings. They get big numbers. The world kind
- 1:10of stops. you know in a lot of ways and it's
- 1:14one game three hours and the fate of a franchise
- 1:18is resting on that one game you know and the
- 1:20outcome of it it's nothing else like it in sports
- 1:23i mean you could try to say like march madness
- 1:25and you know the nba and in a lot of ways college
- 1:27football playoffs somewhat but the the nfl is
- 1:30just different it's next level so um yeah man
- 1:33i'm ready to get into it let's see what we can
- 1:34do okay so if we look back at the conference
- 1:37championship games Let's start with the Broncos
- 1:41and the Patriots. Okay. All right. No, hold on
- 1:44now. Stay consistent. Remember what you said
- 1:47about this game. And I don't, I can't remember
- 1:49if you said it on air. If you just said it to
- 1:50me, remember what you said about the Broncos
- 1:53and remember what you said about Jared Stidham.
- 1:57Okay. You might have to remind me. I don't, I
- 2:00don't know what I said. You said, you, you said
- 2:01you could not, you did not care about the Broncos
- 2:04and Jared Stidham and you did not want to see
- 2:06them win in advance. Oh, yeah, that is for sure.
- 2:09And yeah, I don't remember if we recorded that
- 2:12or we text that or what we talked about. I think
- 2:13we were just talking. I think that was right
- 2:14after the show. Maybe we were just talking. Yeah,
- 2:17yeah, yeah. I did not want to see that, right?
- 2:21And I think you were like, well, what if he lights
- 2:23it up and they win it? And then it would have
- 2:26been like, well, I don't know. I mean, I guess
- 2:27that'd make it more interesting that he, you
- 2:30know, the one game that he's played well in his
- 2:32life was the biggest one. You know would be in
- 2:35his career in that weather like it would have
- 2:38been it would have been an all -time performance
- 2:40if he pulled it off Unfortunately, he didn't
- 2:43but true. Yeah, I mean cuz he was cooking early
- 2:46He early he looked Formidable he did Tony Romo
- 2:51Tony Romo was as the kids say glazing the hell
- 2:54out of them Oh, yeah, but every on everything
- 2:57that he did but You know, he he looked okay And
- 3:03then he also looked like there's a reason why
- 3:06he's the backup, right? And again, in the weather,
- 3:10the weather is a different story, right? I mean,
- 3:13if anyone would have scored a touchdown in the
- 3:15weather, you'd have been like, well, that's the
- 3:18ballgame. You know what I mean? It would have
- 3:20been over. And I think, you know, and I, you
- 3:24know, I texted you as well with the, I was like,
- 3:28man, if this thing goes over time, they could
- 3:29play forever. That was a really good point too.
- 3:33Well, yeah, because they got to play until somebody
- 3:34scores. Yeah. Yeah. And that weather was getting
- 3:37so bad. I'm like, if they tied up, I mean, we,
- 3:40we could just look at a bunch of bad punts and
- 3:44bad field goal misses and slippery, you know,
- 3:46it could be just ugly and it may, they may play
- 3:50until halftime of the next game. So luckily that
- 3:54didn't happen because I don't know that I could
- 3:55have watched it. Um, not even It wouldn't even
- 4:00have been suspenseful for me. But yeah, so we
- 4:03lucked out. We're not gonna get Jared Stidham.
- 4:06You know, we're gonna get the Drake May and the
- 4:08New England Patriots as they pulled it out 10
- 4:10to seven. And again, really the game was about
- 4:15three quarters and it was still boring because
- 4:24the Broncos defense, which has been really good
- 4:27all season. Was really good Drake made did not
- 4:31you know, he looked shaky They got the benefit
- 4:34of a Jared Stidham turnover to give them about
- 4:37ten yards to score which they did so Props to
- 4:40them for scoring off the turnover. That's gonna
- 4:43come in key again and then You know It was the
- 4:51coaching decision right as the last been made
- 4:53of Sean Payton not kicking the field goal going
- 4:55for it And a lot could be said to that. And again,
- 4:59Tony Romo did say something smart on TV. He did
- 5:02say like you got to get points and in this game
- 5:05with the backup. I don't know about the weather
- 5:09at the time if they knew what was coming, but
- 5:11I know he just was like, hey, you got to get
- 5:13points when they're there. And Sean Payton didn't
- 5:16do that. And it cost him. But yeah, it was just
- 5:21an ugly game. You could call it a defensive battle.
- 5:26I would call it more, you know, pretty good defenses,
- 5:30you know, pretty good defense. But again, again,
- 5:33you're talking about a backup and he showed,
- 5:36you know, he had, I think the one big play, big
- 5:38pass for about 50, 54 yards that set them up.
- 5:41And then after that, it was, it was pretty mediocre.
- 5:46And, and like I said, then when the weather came,
- 5:49it was, that was basically like whoever's winning
- 5:50then, but I believe the Broncos had a field goal
- 5:52blocked. that it looked like it might have would
- 5:55have went in and that was in the snow. And then
- 5:59I think both teams missed a few field goals,
- 6:02so. It was one of the least impressive conference
- 6:07championship games I've watched in awhile. That
- 6:12and that may be true. It wasn't anybody's fault
- 6:15though, and I've well not in the fourth quarter.
- 6:19No, no, I, so I don't think, well, no, I mean,
- 6:22just in terms of how bad the game turned out,
- 6:24I'm not putting that on any, like there's no
- 6:26one's fault. And no, it just turned out that
- 6:29way. Yeah. It just ended that way. And the weather
- 6:30certainly didn't help. But my, my thing, and
- 6:34I know, I know this is what sports is and I,
- 6:37and here I am, you know, I always you know, to
- 6:41no disrespect to anybody, no, anyone on the planet.
- 6:44I always feel like the adult in the room when
- 6:46the game is over, because the first thing people
- 6:48do is try to, you know, find the person to blame
- 6:51for the reason for the loss. And, you know, so
- 6:54the Sean Payton thing, I actually did send that
- 6:56to you at the beginning of the game, at the very
- 6:59end of the game. I'm like, yeah, Sean Payton
- 7:00is kicking himself out that field goal. And I'm
- 7:03sorry for not taking that field goal in the first
- 7:07half. And this is the main reason. I don't have
- 7:10a problem with you going forward on fourth down
- 7:13when you're that close and you're in your red
- 7:15zone and you may be able to steal some points
- 7:18but you don't do it with a backup. Like if you
- 7:22had your starting quarterback even with even
- 7:24Bo Nix as an inexperienced playoff quarterback
- 7:29I'm fine because that dude has been in those
- 7:31types of situations all year. You got Jared Stidham
- 7:36who is your starting backup quarterback in a
- 7:38game to go to the fucking Super Bowl. Like, what
- 7:42are you thinking? And I know Sean Payton said
- 7:47and did all the right things leading up to the
- 7:49game. After the game, I'm going to give him credit.
- 7:53He was as professional as you could be. But the
- 7:57thing that disturbed me the most was when Jared
- 8:02Stidham started doing Jared Stidham type things.
- 8:06I don't think Sean Payton did what a head coach
- 8:08is supposed to do, is reel that guy in. Because
- 8:11we gotta talk about the forward pass, I'm sorry,
- 8:14the backward pass slash fumble thing. It was
- 8:18so wonky and weird looking. And by the way, I
- 8:21thought it was an incomplete pass. I'm just gonna
- 8:23say that. It didn't look like it went backward
- 8:25to me. So maybe it was a bad angle and I know
- 8:28they did the overhead shot and they did the side
- 8:30shot. To me, it looked like a forward pass, intentional
- 8:33grounding, whatever. But the thing that bothered
- 8:37me about it is it was such an unnatural quarterback
- 8:40thing to do. I don't know what the hell he was
- 8:43thinking. Like, if I'm the head coach in that
- 8:46situation, I might have hit you in the face with
- 8:48a clipboard the second you got to the sideline.
- 8:50I would have hit you in the face with one of
- 8:51those eye pads that they'd be, you know, looking
- 8:53at plays and stuff on. I don't know what he was
- 8:55doing. It was so bizarre. That's one thing. And
- 8:59then obviously the interception that he threw,
- 9:02I don't know who the hell he was throwing the
- 9:04ball to. I don't know why he thought throwing
- 9:08a duck in that type of weather into triple coverage
- 9:12was a good idea, but he just floated the ball
- 9:15up there nowhere near the sideline. His receiver
- 9:18didn't even have a shot, gets picked off, and
- 9:21it's like, all right, what the hell are we doing?
- 9:24I also put that on Sean Payton, too, mainly because
- 9:28you don't even put him in position to throw that
- 9:31pass, to throw it that poorly. to have it intercepted
- 9:36to begin with. So chance after chance, I think
- 9:40the game kind of flipped on those three decisions.
- 9:44It was the lack of going for a field goal. It
- 9:46was the two -handed chest pass that he threw,
- 9:51the chest pass that he threw, and then that duck
- 9:53just floating the ball up there. I mean, it felt
- 9:55like it was in the air for 20 minutes. But, you
- 9:58know, hats off to New England. They didn't make
- 10:01the mistakes that they you know, that a young
- 10:04team could make with a young quarterback. And,
- 10:08you know, they, they held their own and they
- 10:10were able to, you know, to punch their ticket,
- 10:12to go to the Superbowl, winning a road game in
- 10:14those types of weather conditions. And I, you
- 10:17know, I take my hat off to them. So, um, obviously,
- 10:22I mean, we got to look at their, who their opposition
- 10:24in the Superbowl is going to be. Yeah. I was
- 10:28just going to one more, I was just going to piggyback
- 10:30on a few things you mentioned there, like, Yeah,
- 10:33the shovel pass to nobody. The only problem,
- 10:37again, that's that inexperience and that's that
- 10:40deer in the headlights moment for him. I just
- 10:44didn't like, you said you thought it was an incomplete
- 10:46pass. The biggest thing was the refs, they let
- 10:50the play run out and then they went and said
- 10:52an incomplete pass. I'm like, well, if it was
- 10:54an incomplete pass, then you blow it dead. Yeah,
- 10:57bullet dead and they don't even give the defense
- 10:59an opportunity to scoop the ball up and run it
- 11:01back. So, so, so the refs nearly screwed the
- 11:04Patriots because they had to spot it where it
- 11:08happened because they ruled it wrong. But we
- 11:11can't, you know, we're not, but we're not going
- 11:13to do that because the Patriots went right down
- 11:15and scored like they should have. Oh, I get it.
- 11:17I just, you know, I just want to say again, referee
- 11:19and an NFL. I'm like, that's basic right there
- 11:22is you know, blow the whistle. And if you read
- 11:25Vrabel's lips to the referee, he said, you know,
- 11:28again, he was like, yeah, blow the effing whistle.
- 11:31Like, what are we doing here? So that was my
- 11:35thought on that play. And then, yeah, I thought,
- 11:38like you said, we talked about the field goal,
- 11:42not trying to field goal and just going for it,
- 11:43but, and you're exactly right on that. You don't
- 11:45do that with a backup. Get points. When you can
- 11:49three points right there for you. Yeah, just
- 11:51get points Yeah, and then the duck the duck ball.
- 11:54I just thought I was way too soon to throw it
- 11:57up I thought at some point maybe because you
- 12:00know, it is snow and maybe you get a defender
- 12:02to fall and Miracle miracles happen, but at that
- 12:06point I thought it was way too early to do that
- 12:08I thought just you know They should have been
- 12:10throwing like short passes trying to gain yards
- 12:12And do whatever they can to get as close as possible
- 12:15for a field goal or whatever So that's all I
- 12:18got on that. Yeah, the so they will play the
- 12:26they they play the winner of the NFC and that
- 12:29game was the Seahawks and the Rams in Seattle.
- 12:33Another close game, perfect weather. And it really
- 12:39came down to. One a turnover. and the Seahawks
- 12:47cashed in on that turnover. Dude for the Rams,
- 12:51I don't even know his name. He barely dropped
- 12:54one punt and then managed to catch another one
- 12:58and then that one he tripped on his own feet,
- 13:01fell down and obviously disaster set up the Seahawks.
- 13:05And again, like the Patriots, the Seahawks cashed
- 13:07in, scored credit to them, right? You get the
- 13:11ball that close on the turnover. Punch it in
- 13:13for a touchdown and they they did exactly that.
- 13:16And then ultimately the game came down to the
- 13:19Rams having the ball in the six yard line. And
- 13:23third and four. And they ran two plays. Where
- 13:29they threw into the end zone? And neither pass
- 13:34went to Devante Adams or Puka Nakua. And that
- 13:40ultimately cost the Rams. They had a golden opportunity
- 13:45to take the lead, put a lot of pressure on Seattle,
- 13:49and they didn't do it. And I don't think they
- 13:52should have kicked a field goal there because,
- 13:54again, I don't think their defense was going
- 13:55to stop Seattle. So I don't mind them going for
- 13:58it. It was just, you know, throw to your best.
- 14:02When the game's on the line, a trip to the Super
- 14:04Bowl, go to the guys, you know, go to the all
- 14:08-time great Devonte Adams and go to top... top
- 14:11five receiver right now Puka Nakua who catches
- 14:13about everything just throw it up if you're gonna
- 14:16throw it up just throw it up to one of them so
- 14:19and the Seahawks won if you didn't know they
- 14:24uh yeah Sam Darnold overcame so far well he hasn't
- 14:28he hasn't overcame his ghost yet but he has overcome
- 14:31some things right to to get past the Rams who
- 14:34blasted them last year in the playoffs and just
- 14:37to prove a lot of doubters wrong, including myself.
- 14:40But I did say in the previous episode, I am starting
- 14:43to believe more and more in Sam Darnold. Okay.
- 14:47It was funny. You started this off saying that
- 14:49Seahawks Rams was in perfect weather. The interesting
- 14:54thing is not only was it perfect weather, it
- 14:56was perfect quarterbacks. Both Darnold and Stafford
- 15:01were cooking. Both of them had three touchdowns.
- 15:04Both of them threw for almost 350 yards. Stafford
- 15:08threw for 374. Neither of them threw an interception.
- 15:12Darnold fumbled the ball once, was able to scoop
- 15:14it up, no big deal. Sam Darnold was only sacked
- 15:18three times. Stafford only sacked once. And interesting
- 15:21thing, I don't know if you noticed this, their
- 15:23quarterback ratings for the game were almost
- 15:25identical. I do know that, yeah. 127 .8 for Darno,
- 15:30127 .6 for Stafford. It was insane, right? So
- 15:35you sit there and you look at the game, and I
- 15:38know it was a back and forth game, but two things
- 15:41really stood out to me. One, I know you kind
- 15:45of co -signed them going for the touchdown at
- 15:48the end there. I thought they should have kicked
- 15:51the field goal. Now the reason why is for the
- 15:55very reason that we saw the end result to the
- 16:00game And the fourth quarter when they got the
- 16:04ball back and they were just trying to advance
- 16:06the ball down to score because they needed six
- 16:08points They were moving the ball pretty easily
- 16:10now the coverage was soft Just to kind of just
- 16:14just not to give up the big play So the DB's
- 16:16and every in the safety's were back linebackers
- 16:18are playing off the linemen press forward And
- 16:21Puka was able to make that catch going to the
- 16:24sideline, you know, knee lands in down, in bounds,
- 16:28clock runs out, no big deal. However, if you
- 16:30give them that same, those same possessions and
- 16:33all they got to do is get in a field goal range,
- 16:35I trust Matthew Stafford to be able to do it.
- 16:38So now you get those six points, you get that
- 16:40field goal that they would have gotten in, you
- 16:42know, in the previous possession. And then you
- 16:44give your kicker, even if he's got to kick a
- 16:4770 yarder to win it. you still give him an opportunity
- 16:51to get you those three points to be able to get
- 16:54the win. So that's just here nor there. But in
- 16:58my eyes, it's like you're that close. Yeah, you're
- 17:01down by one point. Your defense has been great.
- 17:03You've been able to slow everything down. And
- 17:06the second thing that was the most glaring to
- 17:08me was no points were scored in the fourth quarter
- 17:12other than that. So the Rams in a lot of ways
- 17:15figured out Seattle. They figured out how to
- 17:18stop them from scoring. Both defenses gave up
- 17:21two touchdowns in the third quarter. But in the
- 17:24fourth quarter, everything came to a halt. Everybody
- 17:27bunkered down and they were playing lights out
- 17:30defense on both sides. Even with the Rams making
- 17:33their way down, the Seahawks made that stop.
- 17:37And I think you got to kind of read the, it's
- 17:40like, hey, you got an opportunity to score. you
- 17:43know, there was the timeout situation. I think
- 17:45McVeigh was kind of kicking himself, you know,
- 17:48because he was able to, he had to use some timeouts
- 17:49earlier in the half. But at the same time, go
- 17:52ahead. He used one to think about challenging
- 17:56the spot of a ball. Well, and that's another
- 17:59thing. It's a, it's a lot of, there was a lot
- 18:02of second guessing that went on. And by the way,
- 18:05I don't think you would have won that spot anyway,
- 18:08just based on the fact that they'd called it.
- 18:10You've mentioned it. You've been mentioning this
- 18:12all years. Are these games about the players
- 18:15and the coaches or these games about the refs?
- 18:18The refs aren't going to admit a lot of fault
- 18:20and especially in a situation like that where
- 18:22the world is watching. They called it on the
- 18:25field and it was too close. And even if it was
- 18:27a millimeter where they were off and they could
- 18:29have overturned it, they probably wouldn't have.
- 18:32Um, it got to be irrefutable evidence for them
- 18:34to go against a call that was made on the field.
- 18:37Um, so with that, I, I think that they should
- 18:42have just went ahead and just took it and said,
- 18:44you know what, we're going to trust our defense.
- 18:47And if, if the Seahawks were to come down and
- 18:49score or if the Seahawks would have come down
- 18:51and that's another thing. they stopped Seattle
- 18:54and all Seattle would have had to do is get in
- 18:57the field goal range and kick the ball to win.
- 19:00But at that, but at some point the Rams may have
- 19:02gotten the ball back earlier and then they still
- 19:05only would have been down by seven. And then
- 19:08it still would have given them an opportunity
- 19:09to have a much more of a clock bigger field with
- 19:14more time on it. So that way they can get the
- 19:16ball down and maybe score a touchdown. Then it
- 19:18puts you in the situation where do you kick the
- 19:20field, go tight and go into OT? or do you go
- 19:23for two to go to the Super Bowl? So it just,
- 19:25I don't know. It was a great game. You know,
- 19:28it was a great game. You know, we talked about,
- 19:30I think every single game that they played this
- 19:31year, three games, you know, obviously they're
- 19:33two division matchups. And then this game, I
- 19:36think it was a difference of six or seven points
- 19:39total with all games combined. That was the margin
- 19:42of victory for both teams. So, you know, hats
- 19:46off to Seattle, man. They did everything they
- 19:47needed to do. And I'm going to revisit some things
- 19:51about Sam Darnold at the end of the show that
- 19:55I don't think you again, I'm gonna kind of come
- 19:59out of nowhere with some takes on this but He
- 20:02did what he needed to do To to win the game.
- 20:06He didn't damage them and I don't know if he
- 20:09kind of got rid of the you know just kind of
- 20:11the ghosts of Sam Darnold, but he hung in there
- 20:15and he showed that he can be a starting quarterback
- 20:18for a team I bet Minnesota's kicking themselves
- 20:21right now that they let that man go. I'm sure
- 20:24there's other teams in the NFL, the Panthers,
- 20:26you know, the Jets that let that man go. And
- 20:29it shows you what can happen when you have a
- 20:34coaching staff and a team. And I'm going to give
- 20:36credit to that to that locker room, dude. They
- 20:39have galvanized. It's been hard on Sam Darnold
- 20:41all year. It's been tough for him, even with
- 20:44all the winning they've been doing. The only
- 20:47negative. On that entire team, all season has
- 20:50been Darnold. All the trash talking has been
- 20:53on Darnold. And the turnovers have been an issue.
- 20:55So I'm not saying that, you know, it's not for
- 20:57good measure. He's earned that reputation as
- 21:00a, you know, being a turnover prone quarterback,
- 21:02but they've wrapped their arms around him. It
- 21:04was like, no, that's our dude. And, you know,
- 21:07luckily it's paid off, man. And it's gotten them
- 21:09to a playoff berth. I'm sorry. Super bowl berth.
- 21:13For sure. I think the Vikings are probably kicking
- 21:18themselves the most because they had success
- 21:20with Sam Darnold. They did. And let him walk.
- 21:24And I want to say, when did they win last year?
- 21:25When did they win like 13 games last year? No,
- 21:28they won 14. 14, that's what I mean. And clearly,
- 21:32what was happening, and listen, and now, and
- 21:35I know, I know that there's a lot of things that
- 21:37come into that. They wanted to, it was one year
- 21:41and he needed, he had to get paid. Like you had
- 21:45you had to break them off. So it's like so do
- 21:48we hitch our wagon to this guy? They chose not
- 21:50to and yeah, I bet they're regretting it right
- 21:53now Yeah, they're the teams kicking themselves.
- 21:55No nothing works for the New York Jets You know
- 21:58I mean Tom Tom Brady could clone himself like
- 22:04he did his dog and Come back as a 20 year old
- 22:08with the Jets and he would still uh, not lead
- 22:10them anywhere. Yeah. The jets are, you know,
- 22:15and the Panthers are the Panthers. I, you know,
- 22:16it just didn't work. They, they were going through
- 22:18a lot of transition from being a winning football
- 22:21team to not, you know, to whatever they, you
- 22:24know, were at the time coaching changes quarterback,
- 22:27you know, changes. So I get it. Um, yeah. So
- 22:35looking To the Super Bowl without making picks.
- 22:41I Tried to look at I've been looking at some
- 22:43stats to say okay. How does this match up? You
- 22:45know and and also been hearing some stuff talking
- 22:49about oh Drake may had an easy path, you know
- 22:54Sam Darnold Kind of kind of did too. I mean he
- 22:59didn't have like like the Rams are really good
- 23:01team. They're really good offense I even admitted
- 23:05their defense not great They're pretty good.
- 23:08The 49ers were decimated. So you could argue
- 23:13that Sam Darnold, not Sam Darnold so much, but
- 23:15the Seahawks had an easy path to the Super Bowl.
- 23:21At the same time, they earned that easy path
- 23:23because they were the one seed. You get home
- 23:24field advantage. You get a buy. You only had
- 23:27to play two games. So that's a part of the deal,
- 23:30right? So that's not a knock on them. But RG
- 23:343 put out there about the Patriots They had three
- 23:38games to get to the Super Bowl They played the
- 23:41Chargers top five defense number five actually
- 23:44the Texans the number one defense and the Broncos
- 23:48the number two defense now Now they're now they're
- 23:53faced with the Seahawks another top five defense
- 23:57Right, and I don't have the exact number of where
- 24:00they're at, but I know they're in the top five,
- 24:02right? they're up there. So the interesting thing
- 24:06is I actually, I actually thought the Seahawks
- 24:08was, was the number one defense in the NFC. So
- 24:12I think, I think he was making mentioning like
- 24:14the, the defenses within the conferences, but,
- 24:19but, but you're right. Either way, right? Yeah.
- 24:21We know they kill the Seahawks. They're killers.
- 24:24Yeah. I'm with you. But if, but if you look at,
- 24:27if you match up and you look at their defense
- 24:29yards per game, things like that, passing Russian
- 24:34Both team Patriots Seahawks have pretty even
- 24:37defenses Offenses pretty even too. It's it's
- 24:43I mean, it's minimal right? Like yeah, yeah,
- 24:46yeah slight one is slight white one You know
- 24:49like Seattle defense is like slightly better
- 24:51than New England, but they're right there I think
- 24:54New England's offense is like slightly better
- 24:56in Seattle. It's just like they're really tight
- 24:58there, right? The special teams, Seattle is better.
- 25:06Turnovers, New England is better. We talk about
- 25:09Drake May has the fumbles. He likes to fumble,
- 25:13but he doesn't lose, right? I think he doesn't
- 25:16lose a lot of them. Where Sam Darnold, a lot
- 25:20of interceptions, a lot of turnovers. Does that
- 25:22come into play in this Superbowl, right? Because...
- 25:27Darnold's considered the veteran and going to
- 25:28be the veteran in the Super Bowl You know both
- 25:32are you know high draft picks? Meant to you know
- 25:36carry their teams obviously Darnold's now on
- 25:38his fifth team so it's taking a while like we've
- 25:41mentioned all the teams and all the eternal,
- 25:44you know, he just had to find his spot and Right
- 25:47now it's working. So I consider him the veteran
- 25:50Obviously Drake mate. It's his second year But
- 25:53I believe both will have the Super Bowl nerves.
- 25:58It's really just a tough matchup at the moment
- 26:00when you're looking at it. At the moment, and
- 26:04I said, I'm glad we're not making picks right
- 26:06now because I think I got to look into it a little
- 26:08more. I am leaning one way, but I'm not going
- 26:14to mention that. But I'm just saying, they're
- 26:15pretty even matchups. It's an interesting Super
- 26:18Bowl. I think the biggest thing that I think
- 26:21we sent that to, I mean, it's crazy to think
- 26:24that Sam Darnold, out of that draft class, made
- 26:28it to a Super Bowl before Baker Mayfield, Josh
- 26:33Allen, Lamar Jackson. That's crazy to me because
- 26:40this Seattle team's good, but think about those
- 26:42Buffalo Bill teams. Think about those Baltimore
- 26:44Ravens teams. Hell even Baker had you know, a
- 26:49few years of good Tampa Bay Buccaneers teams
- 26:51So it's kind of crazy. It's just though. It's
- 26:54a weird. It's a weird NFL season and this is
- 26:57just kind of a part of it Yeah, and I Mean I
- 27:04guess I could see that my my bigger thing and
- 27:09just in terms of the matchup and and you're right
- 27:11i'm leaning i know exactly who i'm going to pick
- 27:14to go to the like i'm not going to say it but
- 27:16i know who who i got when the super bowl went
- 27:19to me it's super easy like it's not much of a
- 27:22question um yeah we we'll dive into that another
- 27:25episode but yeah the other thing is i think just
- 27:29kind of like you said like in terms of the matchups
- 27:31the defenses are are solid for both teams i'd
- 27:35clearly i'd still give the edge to Seattle's
- 27:38defense over New England's. But you know, you
- 27:42still got two, you've got two quarterbacks that
- 27:45you've got questions about. And the one thing
- 27:49that was rampant this entire NFL season, there
- 27:52was a lot of comeback wins for a lot of teams.
- 27:55And I was actually looking into that. There was
- 27:58one week, I think it was like the first week
- 28:00in October where there were six double digit
- 28:05comebacks. in one week in the NFL. And it's been
- 28:10a lot of them. Like, it's been a lot of teams
- 28:12down 12, teams down 13, teams down 17, and then
- 28:16they end up losing. I mean, I'm sorry, end up
- 28:18coming back to win it. Fourth quarter comebacks,
- 28:20you know, they have a huge second half. And,
- 28:23you know, we've seen that with a lot of teams
- 28:25where it's like you come out of the locker room
- 28:27at halftime. We know in the Super Bowl, really
- 28:32long halftime, teams actually practice with the
- 28:36long gap due to the halftime show. And the funny
- 28:42thing is I think that that's gonna be, that the
- 28:47double -digit comebacks are gonna be an outlier.
- 28:49I think if a team goes up by 10, 12, I don't
- 28:52care who they are, I think they trust their defenses
- 28:55so much that no matter what, if you're Seattle,
- 28:58you know what? Bring the house. Let's see what
- 29:02the kids got. If you're the Patriots and you
- 29:05go up by 13, bring the house. Let's see if Sam
- 29:09Darnold, Sam Darnold. You know what I mean? And
- 29:12just make it such a ugly, messy, nasty game.
- 29:17And not even to the point where, not even to
- 29:20the point where it's like you're getting sacks,
- 29:22but you're just getting pressures and you're
- 29:23making contact with them. You're just getting
- 29:25them rattled. It's like, yeah, man, you just
- 29:27got hit five times in a quarter in the Superbowl.
- 29:30Get up, dust yourself off. What you gonna do?
- 29:32You know, so to me that's kind of what stood
- 29:35out the most to me Looking at the matchup on
- 29:38paper. I think it's something interesting to
- 29:41where if a team goes up I can see it getting
- 29:44out of hand and It won't be a back -and -forth
- 29:48type game. I want to say it may be reminiscent
- 29:51to You know kind of Eagles Chiefs where it was
- 29:54the same thing where it's like, oh, we know the
- 29:56Chiefs Oh line isn't that great, but the Eagles
- 29:59are like, you know what we're gonna go up And
- 30:01now it's like we're going to unleash the Cooper
- 30:05Dejean show and we just go start laying the wood
- 30:08and start forcing the mistakes. And here goes
- 30:11the interception. Oh, Kelsey's dropping passes.
- 30:14There goes the fumble. I think that's what's
- 30:17going to happen. But it really could go either
- 30:20way if a team goes up big. And I think the score
- 30:24could get out of hand pretty early, probably
- 30:26leading into halftime. You say you think it can
- 30:31get out of hand? I think if a team goes up by
- 30:34double digits, I don't see them letting up. Because
- 30:38that's another thing that happens. And you have
- 30:39to understand, like in Super Bowls, typically
- 30:42teams try to play it safe. Like you start running
- 30:45the ball. I mean, just think about it. If the
- 30:47Seahawks are having success, do you think they're
- 30:49going to stop throwing the puka? You know what
- 30:52I'm saying? I just don't see it. So just looking
- 30:59at these, the two teams scheduled this year,
- 31:02neither one got blown out. They're all, you know,
- 31:05they have a combined six losses. They both are
- 31:0714 and three. One just happened to get the one
- 31:10seed. The other got the two in their respective
- 31:13conferences, but they didn't get blown out. They're
- 31:17all, their losses were within a score. So obviously
- 31:23the Super Bowl, anything can happen. I would
- 31:26put my money on if a team goes up, the first
- 31:29team to go up by double digits. Is going to hold
- 31:33on. And here's, and not even hold on, but I see
- 31:37them pour. I got my foot on your neck. Yeah.
- 31:41Pouring it out. Yeah. I try. Like I said, I try
- 31:44to, I've been trying to match these teams up
- 31:47and say, okay, well this, this team's quarterback
- 31:49running back defense, this, that, and the other,
- 31:51uh, you speak of that long halftime. Again, Mike
- 31:55Vrabel, you know, he played in Super Bowls, so
- 31:59he's all about that. He's going to know how to
- 32:00coach the Patriots to get ready for that. That's
- 32:04an advantage for them. Again, you know, again,
- 32:09I mentioned special teams. I mean, if Shahid
- 32:12breaks loose, that could be a game changer. That
- 32:14could be something. That's really something to
- 32:16watch out for. That's the thing about Seattle.
- 32:19Again, they can just. If Sam Darnold don't Sam
- 32:23Darnold. you know, they can really, you know,
- 32:27get you, they can really beat you in every phase
- 32:29of the game. And that's what is going to be really
- 32:32important to watch. And again, turnovers again,
- 32:36Sam Darnold turns the ball over, but I believe
- 32:38the, the Seahawks defense has more turnovers
- 32:41than the Patriots. So like I said, it's really
- 32:44balanced. It's really close. Super balanced,
- 32:46really close. And to your point, to your point,
- 32:49that's what I mean about a team going up big.
- 32:52You bring that pressure. Yeah. Cause you got
- 32:56them in a position where they can't run the ball.
- 32:58And if Drake Mase fumbles, like you mentioned
- 33:00the fumbles, I mean, he's been, it's been grace
- 33:04of God that he hasn't been losing those fumbles
- 33:06and they've turned into turnovers. You can't
- 33:09take those chances in the Superbowl. We talked
- 33:11about Sam Darnold's turnover issues all year,
- 33:14which is why people didn't have faith in him.
- 33:17If the Patriots go up and they start bringing
- 33:18that heat, And he starts making those flimsy
- 33:21ass passes. Passes get tipped in the line of
- 33:23scrimmage. He's getting hit on the release. That's
- 33:26all I'm saying. I can just, that's just how I
- 33:28see it. But I think it'll be a great game either
- 33:31way. I don't think it's going to be a dud. Like
- 33:32I think this is going to be a banger ass Super
- 33:34Bowl we got. I really do. I really do too. And
- 33:37like I said, just talking about the quarterbacks
- 33:39again, if Drake May plays like he just did, which
- 33:42people can say, oh, well he didn't play great.
- 33:44And it's like, well the weather, whatever. And
- 33:46he didn't play. He didn't play as great. Or as
- 33:50good as he's been all season right to be most
- 33:52likely the runner -up for the MVP But he didn't
- 33:57turn the ball over. I don't even think he had
- 33:59a moment where it was like Almost a turnover
- 34:02right and in Denver against that defense even
- 34:05in the weather Drake may protected the ball Way
- 34:09better than he had in the previous two playoff
- 34:11games, and then we talked about how great Sam
- 34:14Darnold was so You know if you get those two
- 34:19Where Sam Darnold is is playing like that Drake
- 34:23may is not turning the ball over Yeah, I still
- 34:26have the advantage on you know one way but still
- 34:29it's just such a toss -up But you know, it's
- 34:34gonna be I know Seattle wants to win in that
- 34:36stadium because that's San Francisco so They'll
- 34:41have a little motivation There's always motivation,
- 34:44you know extra, you know find that extra motivation
- 34:46to win uh but like you said no picks today just
- 34:50um that'll probably that'll be coming next week
- 34:53and uh we'll we'll narrow it down to an exact
- 34:57pick yeah reasoning pick picks and scores yeah
- 35:01oh yeah yeah because i'm ready like i said i
- 35:03already got it i don't even have to put any thought
- 35:05into it man i already got it unless something
- 35:06changes unless something falls from the sky yeah
- 35:10i mean like i said i'm leaning away Yeah, we
- 35:13just don't want to give it out too early. I ain't
- 35:15giving it out yet. We're going to give it out
- 35:17Super Bowl week. Alright, what do you want? Uh
- 35:25let's go to something else. A hot story. What
- 35:27you got? Oh for me? Yeah. What do you what do
- 35:31you want next? Which I mean I I mean I I mean
- 35:35if if we want to talk about you know the The
- 35:39we want to talk about the Pro Bowl spot that
- 35:43should do this is earned if you want to go there
- 35:45We go there. Yeah, let's talk about it Okay,
- 35:50so I saw it came through the group chat. I didn't
- 35:52know until it came through the group chat I've
- 35:57you gave kind of some of your thoughts and opinions
- 36:00on it Mine is all flames So but I am curious
- 36:05to hear what it is you have to say and it's nothing
- 36:08negative by the way So I'm just I'm more curious
- 36:11what your insight on that is so so first a friend
- 36:15of mine on Facebook Posted about this and I and
- 36:19I'm not I'm not gonna quote it word -for -word.
- 36:21I can't remember it word -for -word but it basically
- 36:24said I wasn't planning on watching the Pro Bowl
- 36:29and Then I saw the news that Shador Sanders was
- 36:32selected to play Okay, now wait a minute. No,
- 36:35wait a minute now now now I want you to keep
- 36:38in mind when it hit the group chat Isn't that
- 36:40exactly what I said? Yeah, and then he said Since
- 36:46this is the news. I still don't plan on watching
- 36:49the pro Which is my thoughts exactly so yeah,
- 36:56so that's my thoughts it's like It was weird,
- 36:59but I started looking at him thinking, well,
- 37:00you know, like I said, guys, uh, they, they,
- 37:03they choose not to play in it all the time. Now
- 37:06they say, you know, they're like either had a
- 37:08long playoff run, their body's tired. They don't
- 37:10want, not even if it's flag football, they don't
- 37:11want to play. And then I found out, you know,
- 37:14they keep bringing up Trevor Lawrence. Well,
- 37:16he chose not to go. Uh, you know, I also learned
- 37:18in the pro bowl, they pick three and then they
- 37:20have four alternates. Well, everybody's hurt
- 37:22from Bo Nix to my homes to Daniel Jones. And
- 37:26then Lawrence said, no. So you was kind of stuck
- 37:29with Herbert and Alan and then you know, I started
- 37:33looking at stats and we're like well statistically
- 37:36And I don't know if they asked anybody else.
- 37:38I just said, you know statistically like Who
- 37:41else could they have asked besides Shador Sanders?
- 37:45And again, by the way, we're fans of Shador me
- 37:48and you both are It's just weird to see him be
- 37:51picked for the Pro Bowl with his numbers and
- 37:54being a rookie and so again, I look and I'm like
- 37:57Aaron Rodgers had better numbers, better season.
- 38:01Even CJ Stroud. Even rookie top pick Cam Ward
- 38:06had better numbers. Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow.
- 38:10Hell, I even put in Joe Flacco. And then I was
- 38:13like, like I told y 'all, not good, but better
- 38:17numbers. And I mean, we'd have still said something,
- 38:20but if Geno Smith or Tua Tukavalo got a pick,
- 38:23I think we'd have been like, well, it's not a
- 38:25great pick, but I mean, you know. At least they
- 38:28have more touchdowns and interceptions And again,
- 38:31I'm not net. I don't like I said, I don't want
- 38:33to sound negative but again when you're when
- 38:35you're talking about something like this and
- 38:38It matters it matters. It goes on you again.
- 38:42It's like we talked about all -star game with
- 38:44the with the NBA I mean Pro Bowl it goes on your
- 38:46resume forever to say you are a pro bowler So
- 38:51it says I think more about the Pro Bowl game
- 38:54in the process and like we talked You know these
- 38:58all -star games the process and it is an exhibition
- 39:01it is for the fans And again, if that's the case
- 39:06then obviously, you know haven't should order
- 39:08there Bringing some energy to the to the flag
- 39:12football game will will be fun Yeah, it will
- 39:17and it'll definitely have more eyes I bet it
- 39:20will be the high the one of the higher rated
- 39:22Pro Bowls in recent years. I'm confident in saying
- 39:26that. And, you know, to the point that you made
- 39:31in terms of, you know, being a pro bowler and
- 39:32it going on a resume, I am going to backtrack
- 39:35a little bit to something that we talked about
- 39:36the last episode when we were talking about the
- 39:39NBA All -Star games and all that stuff. I think
- 39:43the accolades have faded in terms of what are
- 39:47the shiny golden achievements. of an athlete's
- 39:50career, much like an all star appearance in the
- 39:54NBA. Same thing has faded with Pro Bowl appearances
- 39:57in the NFL. It just is what it is. The games
- 40:01just aren't as important as they used to be.
- 40:03The players for either sport don't take them
- 40:05as seriously as they should. And the respect
- 40:08that they used to get, they don't get from the
- 40:11fans, the players, the organizations. No one
- 40:14cares. So. it now he was made the all pro team
- 40:18I think people would start flipping over tables
- 40:20and chairs and we know that's not gonna happen
- 40:23but you know but for him to get the Pro Bowl
- 40:26nod like it's a it's a television event it's
- 40:28a spectacle it's like you said it's a fan event
- 40:31and he is a controversial quarterback for a lot
- 40:35of reasons yeah that being said my perspective
- 40:41on Shador Sanders making The Pro Bowl isn't doesn't
- 40:47have anything to do with him actually being at
- 40:50the Pro Bowl or participating in the Pro Bowl
- 40:53Should door Sanders is was a other than him being
- 40:59a late round quarterback pick He was very popular
- 41:08as a player He was very popular in college He
- 41:16had a lot of eyes on him. A lot of people were
- 41:19shocked that he fell into draft the way that
- 41:21he did. And the first thing he did is he gets
- 41:24to Cleveland and he gets humbled by the league.
- 41:27He gets humbled by the front office. He gets
- 41:29humbled by the coaching staff to the point where
- 41:32people were, I mean, doing full on. dissertations
- 41:39and triptychs and science projects on why is
- 41:43it that Shadoura Sanders isn't the starting quarterback
- 41:45for the Cleveland Browns. Everyone kind of, the
- 41:50perception was that the team didn't want him
- 41:54to do well to the point where we know where he
- 41:57got picked in the fifth round. And I mean, he's
- 42:01getting the prank phone calls and all of that
- 42:03saying he didn't pick it. You know, just all,
- 42:05it was bad. But what I want to do is I want to
- 42:09take everything that I just said about Shador
- 42:11other than the fact that he was a fifth round
- 42:14pick and I am going to mention him in the same
- 42:18breath as a quarterback that is starting in the
- 42:21Super Bowl in a couple of weeks and that's Sam
- 42:22Darnold. Shador's track record is starting off
- 42:25the same way Sam Darnold's did. Coaches don't
- 42:29believe in you. Dude, you're not that good. We
- 42:32don't think you can win in this league. to the
- 42:34point where the dude's been shipped around and
- 42:37moved around, stayed afoot, kept his head on
- 42:41straight, stayed likable. As bad as a quarterback
- 42:46as Sam Darnold has been, nobody said any bad
- 42:48words about him as a player. I just went off
- 42:51about how much that locker room loves Sam Darnold,
- 42:55even through his mistakes and his, you know,
- 42:58his potential inefficiencies. He's not a perfect
- 43:01quarterback. But he found a way to make it to
- 43:06a team in his first year with the Seahawks. And
- 43:09yeah, he's riding a great defense, but you saw
- 43:12those stats that dude put up a couple days ago.
- 43:16Shador Sanders should be looking at Sam Dardorn
- 43:18and say, you know what, man, I can do that. Let
- 43:20me stay the track. Stop making it about everything
- 43:24else that you're doing. This league will give
- 43:27you opportunities if people like you. Now, I
- 43:32don't think anybody has loved Sam Darnold. I
- 43:34don't know all these people walking around with
- 43:37Sam Darnold jerseys, but he wasn't hated either.
- 43:41He wasn't hated. The only people who didn't believe
- 43:44in him were the people whose jobs were on the
- 43:46line, which were the coaches, which is the same
- 43:49thing you could say about Shador. We could say
- 43:51you're talking about, you know, Stefanski all
- 43:53day. He felt like he would have had to hitch
- 43:56his wagon to whether or not Shador was successful
- 43:59or not. I think this is a huge, this should be
- 44:04a gigantic sign for Shador because I'm not going
- 44:07to go tit for tat and say who's more talented
- 44:09as a quarterback. But I think the things that
- 44:12Sam Darnold is doing is Shador was to stay on
- 44:16the track and work hard and understand what it
- 44:19is that it takes to be a starting franchise quarterback
- 44:22in the NFL. He could do the same thing that Sam
- 44:25Darnold did. but all the extra stuff has to go
- 44:29out the window. Just go play ball, man. Go play
- 44:33ball, make sure that that locker room loves you,
- 44:36do what you can to get along with your coaches,
- 44:38be coachable, and step outside of being Deion's
- 44:41son. And you'll have an opportunity just like
- 44:44this, but you gotta go out there and get it,
- 44:46because we can say whatever we want to about
- 44:47Sam Darnold, that dude earned this spot. He earned
- 44:51what he's gonna represent, starting for the Seahawks
- 44:54and the Super Bowl, he went out and got that
- 44:56shit. Let's see if Shador has that in him because
- 44:59I don't know if he does. Show me. Let me see
- 45:01if you've got that in you. Yeah. And since you're
- 45:05comparing and like, you know, a little bit of
- 45:08the path that Shador is going to have to take,
- 45:11I think it'll take Shador having to get out of
- 45:13Cleveland too. I agree with you. And by the way,
- 45:16if we're being honest with one another, he's
- 45:18got what? Maybe one or two more years there.
- 45:20It just depends. I mean, they're looking for
- 45:22a head coach. They're still, they still haven't
- 45:24hired one. It's not like the greatest job in
- 45:29the world because it is the Browns So I don't
- 45:33know that they're getting the the best of the
- 45:35best candidates coming in I've read where some
- 45:39guys have turned it down and know, it is what
- 45:43it is. They are what they are. They operate the
- 45:45way they operate. So, hey, hey, hey, hey, if
- 45:48you want to make these correlations, this is
- 45:50really too easy. If you want to, if you want
- 45:52to name the two worst franchises in the NFL,
- 45:55who are you going to name? You're going to name
- 45:56the Browns and the Jets. It's the Browns and
- 45:59the Jets. That's what I'm saying. Like, that's
- 46:00why the correlations are there. Yeah, they're
- 46:03both doodoo. So, and we know that and we, you
- 46:06know, I sent the text today and you know about
- 46:08Aaron Glenn has fired seven assistants. Because
- 46:12all his coaching staff is the blame that they
- 46:15suck this year. So yeah, you know, yeah everybody
- 46:18else Yeah, it's always the thing. I was like
- 46:20I was like so, you know, it's just I'm not gonna
- 46:23go on a rant on this It was just funny that one
- 46:25he kept his job and that's cool Even though they
- 46:28were just the worst team in the NFL besides the
- 46:31Raiders Who fired their head coach for being
- 46:34bad after one season? But it's funny like you
- 46:38normally see coaches point the finger right the
- 46:40bit I'm gonna get rid of this coordinator or
- 46:43this guy right because that was the problem which
- 46:46he did that during the season when he fired Steve
- 46:49Wilkes the defensive coordinator and then in
- 46:52the offseason he continues to fire just everybody
- 46:55I'm like So the guys you hired like almost your
- 47:00entire coaching staff with a problem, but you
- 47:02didn't have a hand in it I I got you But the
- 47:05Jets are going to Jets, the Browns are going
- 47:08to Browns. And like I said, I think if you said
- 47:11if Shador is going to make that step to be like
- 47:13a Sam Darnold, even a even a Baker Mayfield who
- 47:16made it out of Cleveland, right, and got kicked
- 47:18around a little bit before he found success,
- 47:20not to the Super Bowl success. But like you said,
- 47:23I think that's another good, you know, another
- 47:26good example of Shador following the footsteps
- 47:29of like a Baker Mayfield who just keep your head
- 47:31down, keep playing, you know. If you change coaches,
- 47:36coordinators, just keep doing you work hard.
- 47:40Again, get rid of the other stuff. Like you said,
- 47:43everybody likes Sam Darnold. I think he's a likable
- 47:46guy. I don't think he's ever given, he just gave
- 47:48us the quote that he was seeing ghost. And I
- 47:51brought that up because he's playing the Patriots
- 47:52and that was the team he was seeing ghost against.
- 47:56So, he's overcome all that. And yeah, I think
- 47:59Shador, like I said, his path I think would not
- 48:01come in Cleveland. unless they hired Deion Sanders
- 48:07as their head coach. That would just make them
- 48:09more interesting to me. But yeah, I think it'll
- 48:13have to happen somewhere else and he'll have
- 48:16to find his right fit, right coach, right team,
- 48:19right system to do that. But like you said, just
- 48:23work hard. Well, there's one simple thing that
- 48:27Shador could do and he could just follow in the
- 48:29footsteps of those that came before him. The
- 48:32only thing he needs to do to have a like a resurgence
- 48:35and a successful career. is to promptly leave
- 48:38the Cleveland Browns and sign his contract with
- 48:40the Carolina Panthers because that's that's what
- 48:42happened with Sam Darnold and that's what happened
- 48:44with Baker Mayfield. So so if he just if he if
- 48:48he becomes and I don't know what's going to happen
- 48:49with Bryce Young who knows he had a great year
- 48:51this year but you know that seems to be the ticket
- 48:54it's like hey man leave your terrible team and
- 48:56come sign with the Panthers and then after that
- 48:58you'll get some success. So they will bring you
- 49:01into a winner. They'll turn you into a winner
- 49:03after you leave. Just for somebody else. Yeah,
- 49:07for somebody else. Yeah. And Tepper won't be
- 49:09able to reap the benefits of that. But yeah,
- 49:11man, I just, I want to see the kid do well. You
- 49:14know, personality matters in the NFL and you
- 49:18know, you just don't see a lot of outwardly cocky,
- 49:21arrogant quarterbacks that make it is not a lot
- 49:24of them. And there's a reason for that because
- 49:26the league will humble you. I've said that before.
- 49:28So hopefully Shandor keeps his head on straight.
- 49:31Keeps working and gets better and I do think
- 49:33he'll naturally get better as he understands
- 49:36He'll probably have a slump this year because
- 49:37most quarterback sophomore slumps it happens
- 49:40and we saw that with um We saw that in Washington
- 49:42this year Where it's like your quarterbacks are
- 49:45gonna have issues in the second year when people
- 49:46start to figure you out But you know stay consistent
- 49:51Yeah, work hard. We'll see what happens for him.
- 49:54But yeah if his agent gives him a call and say,
- 49:57Hey man, the Panthers are looking at picking
- 49:58you up. I think he should sign that without even
- 50:01looking at the numbers. All right. So let's go
- 50:10to one more topic. One hits home for us because
- 50:14we're patiently waiting. Do you have any takes
- 50:19or thoughts on the Philadelphia Eagles not being
- 50:22able to hire offensive coordinator yet? Like
- 50:2513 candidates. That's a lot for an OC job. So
- 50:29I think there's a lot of things that come into
- 50:32play. I think so there and I'll rattle them off.
- 50:36I'm not going to sit here and break everything
- 50:37down. There's culture fit, meaning culture fit
- 50:41within the organization in the front office.
- 50:43There's culture fit with with Sirianni as a head
- 50:46coach. Again, he's a he's a firecracker, man.
- 50:51He's not for everybody. But, you know, the guy
- 50:53the guy wins games. There's also the trickiness
- 50:57of Jalen Hurts being your starting quarterback.
- 51:00We don't know what's going to happen with AJ
- 51:02Brown. There's a lot of things that are just
- 51:04kind of question marks. And I actually give them
- 51:07credit for waiting to see who is the best fit
- 51:12for how the season is going to pan out coming
- 51:17next year. We want the good name. We want the
- 51:22nice name. I mean, Mike McDaniel would have been
- 51:24great hire. I don't think anybody would have
- 51:27scoffed at that. We know he can call offenses,
- 51:29but I don't know what it is specifically that
- 51:34they're looking at. Going through all the candidates
- 51:35doesn't really alarm me. To me, it just shows
- 51:38that they're actually going through their due
- 51:39diligence and they're trying to find somebody
- 51:41that's a good fit because you could have just
- 51:43thrown some money at anybody. and just giving
- 51:45them, you know, and just giving them a job. We
- 51:49know that Hertz has had what, what is it? Six
- 51:52OCs, seven OCs since college. Like, I'm sorry,
- 51:56including college. Like every year he has to
- 51:58learn a new offensive system. He's getting his
- 52:00place called from someone new. There, there's
- 52:04options for him. I think he should step into
- 52:08the room and say, guys, you guys got to give
- 52:10me some stability here. I understand this is
- 52:12the game. and you know they let Kellen Moore
- 52:15go you know if I was them I would have done whatever
- 52:18I could to keep Kellen Moore in that building
- 52:20like we saw the success that he had and clearly
- 52:22he's going to do some good things in New Orleans
- 52:24but I'm not at I'm not going to point the finger
- 52:28at anybody I'm not that rattled by it I think
- 52:31they're taking their time trying to make the
- 52:33right decision and it doesn't it doesn't bother
- 52:36me as much as it bothers you honestly I think
- 52:38I think you just want it to be over I think you
- 52:40just want to know who it is so that you can sleep
- 52:42better at night? Well, well, that and you know,
- 52:46when your team gets knocked out of the playoffs,
- 52:48it's like, okay, what's next for us? You know
- 52:51what I mean? Like I'm on to like, I'm still watching
- 52:54the playoffs and the Superbowl and all that.
- 52:56And obviously have our takes, but obviously as
- 52:59an Eagles fan waiting on what's next for our
- 53:01team. But it's only been a couple of weeks, but
- 53:03it's only been a couple. It's not, it's not April.
- 53:07Yeah, but you know, I'm just patiently waiting,
- 53:10man. I just wanna know who's gonna be running
- 53:12this offense, which I told someone, I'm like,
- 53:17if they've ever called plays or been an offensive
- 53:20coordinator, they're already better than Kevin
- 53:23Petula, because they know how to call plays,
- 53:26they've done the job. So anybody to me has done
- 53:29it at an NFL level, I'm okay with, actually.
- 53:35But like you said you brought up, you know, I
- 53:36think Sirianni is a big Part of it of the you
- 53:41know, what does the OC what can he control? What
- 53:44can he not you mentioned Kellen Moore? I mean
- 53:47he got a head coaching job. You can't fault him
- 53:48there same thing happened with Shane Steichen
- 53:52So I think also Sirianni is trying to like you
- 53:56said the team but I think Sirianni because this
- 53:59is now the second time that they've had to go
- 54:02through this where Again, he promoted a guy.
- 54:04It didn't work out and you got to get it right.
- 54:06And he did get it right with Kellen Moore. They
- 54:08won a Super Bowl. But now it's happened again.
- 54:10So let's do this. I'm just going to put you on
- 54:13the spot. And because I know we're running low
- 54:16on time and give me who do you want them to get?
- 54:21Give me the name. Give me the name. Well, I'm
- 54:23saying the guy you want. Well, originally, I
- 54:26said Brian Dayball, but now he's going to be
- 54:29OC in Tennessee. Which is weird. Well, right
- 54:31now, so realistically, of who's available, who
- 54:34do you want? I don't even know. Out of the names
- 54:40that have come out lately? I mean, the Broncos
- 54:43just fired Joe Lombardi. You want Joe Lombardi?
- 54:46OK, I mean, do you want Jim Leonard? Out of the
- 54:53names that are out there now that haven't turned
- 54:56us down or back down or whatever the case, right?
- 55:01I mean, for fun, it would be fun to always say
- 55:03Jim Bob Cooper, but such a great name, but such
- 55:09a good name and I think he, you know, but you
- 55:11know, and if they hire him, that's fine. Like
- 55:13he's been an offensive coordinator in this league
- 55:15and you give him the talent that the Eagles have.
- 55:18I think he'll do fine. Matt Nagy, I think is
- 55:21top of my list and I know I've heard about Well,
- 55:25the Chiefs offense this that and the other look
- 55:28he was on that staff for two Super Bowls He coached
- 55:31the Chicago Bears. He wasn't that bad with the
- 55:34Bears, right? He wasn't great, but he wasn't
- 55:36bad. I think it went in record so He knows how
- 55:41to coach again. He had Patrick Mahomes He had
- 55:43that team with the Chiefs as an OC involved in
- 55:47the offense. I think Matt Nagy would be great
- 55:50Again all the stuff, you know, you hear like
- 55:52the there's like issues also with I'm giving
- 55:55that's my name Matt Nagy But I want to get back
- 55:57to like Jeff Stoutland the offensive line coach
- 55:59They say he's involved in the run game and they
- 56:01don't want to he won't give that up And you brought
- 56:03up Jalen hurts. I don't want to listen to anything
- 56:06about the everybody these people talking about
- 56:08Jalen hurts That these guys don't want to work
- 56:10with Jalen hurts Right, like we've mentioned
- 56:14before Go look at his resume. Go look at what
- 56:17he's done you know the It's amazing, right? Like
- 56:21we talk about if Jalen Hurts would have played
- 56:24like some of these guys in the playoffs recently,
- 56:26the criticism he would have got. Again, we've
- 56:29seen him playing two Super Bowls. We've seen
- 56:32him ball out in two Super Bowls, one in which
- 56:34he won. He was the MVP. You could argue he was
- 56:37the MVP and the one he lost. Again, he can throw
- 56:41downfield. He can do what he can do. Get an offensive
- 56:45coordinator that knows how to call plays. Look
- 56:47at those plays the Seahawks were drawing up.
- 56:50They were drawing up plays the other night that
- 56:53it didn't involve like super great route running.
- 56:57It was like a diversion route where the defense
- 57:01didn't know who to cover and one guy ended up
- 57:03wide open. That's the kind of stuff we need,
- 57:05not for verticals. So again, I'm okay with anybody
- 57:08who has called offense. I'm not, I'm not, I'm
- 57:11not too big on guys who are like quarterback
- 57:13coaches and things like that, right? They're
- 57:15interviewing guys like that. No, give me a guy
- 57:17who's been an offensive coordinator in this league.
- 57:19And I promise you, he will be better than Kevin
- 57:21Patula. Okay. So, and this is what you got to
- 57:24understand. And I asked you this, I asked you
- 57:27who you wanted for a specific reason. I did.
- 57:30I put you in a corner here on purpose. You have
- 57:33to understand that if you get somebody and they
- 57:37have success, chances are they're gone in a year
- 57:40anyway. That's okay. So, I'm going to give you
- 57:43a name because I got a name and I'm shocked you
- 57:46haven't mentioned it yet. What about Cliff Kingsbury?
- 57:50Okay. What is he doing though? Right? I think
- 57:55I don't know what he's doing. I heard his name
- 57:57early. My question is, do you want Cliff Kingsbury
- 58:00as your OC? Would you want him as your OC? Yes.
- 58:04No, I mean, and I like that. But here's the thing.
- 58:07I mean, I don't care if they leave after a year.
- 58:10If they get you, help you make the Super Bowl,
- 58:13win the Super Bowl, have success, and look like
- 58:15you know how to play football in an NFL office.
- 58:18That's all I need. All right. No, I mean, it's
- 58:21all right. Like I said, it's just taking a while.
- 58:23I think Siriano is trying to get it right so
- 58:25he don't get fired. okay yeah i mean you know
- 58:27i i like kingsbury but if he has any success
- 58:31at all someone will give him a head coaching
- 58:33job next year and they just haven't interviewed
- 58:37him that's all i i didn't mention him because
- 58:38he hasn't been on the list of people they've
- 58:41got it no and that's fair yeah but yeah for sure
- 58:43bob cooter's a great name i love saying it too
- 58:46yeah yeah that's just and and you know real quick
- 58:50they should call byron lefwich and give him an
- 58:52interview too wow yeah i know that i i agree
- 58:56there's no reason that uh you know, he won a
- 58:59Super Bowl in Tampa and then got fired the next
- 59:01year. So and hasn't worked since in the NFL.
- 59:04That's that's ridiculous. Yeah and and and that's
- 59:06the thing and and it was there was a lot of things
- 59:09that were said about him too. Just kind of even
- 59:12even with all the winning. I don't get it. No.
- 59:15So, at least give him an interview but anyway,
- 59:18anybody that's done it before I'll take um yeah.
- 59:21So, that's that's our little We like to dive
- 59:25into our team every now and then. But also, it's
- 59:28a big story in NFL. I mean, they said they are
- 59:31kind of interviewing a lot of people, and everybody's
- 59:33trying to wonder why. All right. Well, that is
- 59:37another episode of Fanatically Speaking. Again,
- 59:39I am Kent, the co -host and promoter. I am Log
