- 1:48Speaker 2: of Disguise Coverage, I'm trying to run through the intro
- 1:51Speaker 2: as fast as I can because I have a very
- 1:53Speaker 2: special guest. On today's episode. We're going to record offline
- 1:57Speaker 2: and talk Bill's offense forecasting for twenty twenty six, the
- 2:01Speaker 2: NFL meta for offenses as a whole, in what things
- 2:03Speaker 2: will look like going forward. We're still going to do that,
- 2:06Speaker 2: but because of the Bills news today, we pivoted a
- 2:09Speaker 2: little bit. We're going live. We're gonna lead off with
- 2:12Speaker 2: the most recent news about DJ Moore and the Buffalo Bills.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And I say we and I mentioned my tremendous guest
- 2:18Speaker 2: because I'm not alone coming back to the show for
- 2:21Speaker 2: I believe his third time spend several years, Mister Nate
- 2:26Speaker 2: Tice now of Football three to OHO one, one of
- 2:30Speaker 2: the best. When it comes to this, terminology gets thrown
- 2:34Speaker 2: around too much now, but the whole like ball nowhere
- 2:36Speaker 2: type of deal. But you know football in and out.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You're super kind. You love wrestling, we love board games.
- 2:42Speaker 2: We geek out on a lot of stuff. I'm gonna
- 2:44Speaker 2: make sure we're not gonna talk about wrestling today. We're
- 2:46Speaker 2: not gonna go down that path because I want to
- 2:47Speaker 2: get you in and out on your time. But you're
- 2:49Speaker 2: one of the best. Welcome back and thank you for
- 2:51Speaker 2: taking the.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Time, Thanks for having me. It was like the NFL
- 2:55Speaker 1: universe knew that we were getting together today and decided
- 2:58Speaker 1: to drop some relevant news, which is great. I was
- 3:00Speaker 1: already excited to do this show, but it was even
- 3:02Speaker 1: more relevant for not just like even a minor move
- 3:05Speaker 1: or a minor thing. It's like, oh no, this is
- 3:07Speaker 1: actually something.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 1: No, so happy to be here, Happy to see you.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I always love your intro, even if you had to
- 3:12Speaker 1: fly through it today because I know the circumstances, but
- 3:15Speaker 1: great to say it, dude.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Appreciate you. Yeah, it was uh yeah, nuts, we'll we'll
- 3:19Speaker 2: kind of lead off with that. I'll switch the band
- 3:20Speaker 2: at the bottom reference to the DJ More trade, Yeah, we had.
- 3:23Speaker 2: We're still gonna get into what we're gonna get into
- 3:25Speaker 2: in this episode, but it was funny how it kind
- 3:27Speaker 2: of unraveled. It was like, oh, the Bill's trade for
- 3:30Speaker 2: DJ mort was like, Okay, that's notable in and of itself,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and then it was like they're also gonna have to
- 3:35Speaker 2: take on like all of it's his salary. I was like, well,
- 3:37Speaker 2: that's also notable because it's pretty sizable. And then it
- 3:39Speaker 2: was like, well, it's gonna be a mid round pick.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It was like, no, it's a second round pick. And
- 3:42Speaker 2: it all kept unraveling. I think the value aspect, right,
- 3:46Speaker 2: second round pick, the money, the contract that obviously is
- 3:50Speaker 2: tied into who he is as a player, and the
- 3:52Speaker 2: overall value in the package. Let's compartmentalize that for a minute.
- 3:55Speaker 2: DJ Moore the player, right, what he is as a
- 3:58Speaker 2: wide receiver, what you think he brings to the Buffalo
- 4:02Speaker 2: Bills offense that is wide receiver needy. Let's just kind
- 4:06Speaker 2: of unpack who and what Dj more is as a
- 4:08Speaker 2: player and what you think he'll meet to the Bills offense.
- 4:11Speaker 1: This seemed kind of like, I would say, a long
- 4:13Speaker 1: time coming, but maybe a medium time coming. With more
- 4:17Speaker 1: ending up a bill, I feel like, you know, the
- 4:19Speaker 1: Bills were gonna be active in the receiver market for
- 4:22Speaker 1: better for worse. Brandon Bean listens to the noise and
- 4:25Speaker 1: I think they also just relevant of what you watch
- 4:27Speaker 1: when I think that was always the thing with how
- 4:29Speaker 1: the discussion with Josh Allen after the Broncos game and
- 4:32Speaker 1: all the good that he brought to a game and
- 4:33Speaker 1: the turnovers as well. Was I kept kind of like
- 4:36Speaker 1: my defense of him, as people always want to say
- 4:38Speaker 1: you quit defending him, but it's like, no, this is
- 4:40Speaker 1: just a fact. He was throwing to Brandon Cooks in
- 4:43Speaker 1: a conference championship game. So I was just one of
- 4:45Speaker 1: these things. As much as I appreciate and respect Brandon Cooks,
- 4:48Speaker 1: Brandon Cooks wasn't good enough for the Saints to trot
- 4:50Speaker 1: him out last year. The fact that he's throwing these
- 4:52Speaker 1: key passes. So I think everybody in the world knew
- 4:55Speaker 1: that receiver had to be addressed in some way, shape
- 4:57Speaker 1: or form. DJ Moore makes a lot of sense as
- 4:59Speaker 1: far as Joe bray background, as far as the Bears
- 5:02Speaker 1: letting him go. Bears having their own guys that they
- 5:04Speaker 1: want to develop, so they had a little bit of
- 5:06Speaker 1: a surplus there. I was curious about the price because
- 5:09Speaker 1: of his age, his contract, and also I would say,
- 5:11Speaker 1: before I get into the positives of DJ Moore, the
- 5:13Speaker 1: negative side is that in twenty twenty four he more
- 5:16Speaker 1: or less quit on the Bears. As far as like
- 5:19Speaker 1: his effort as far as just a lot of things,
- 5:21Speaker 1: Like it's truly just giving up on plays. And I
- 5:24Speaker 1: have nothing against more or anything. Like I was shocked
- 5:27Speaker 1: by that because before they seemed like a consummate professional
- 5:29Speaker 1: and then even this year there's some sometimes miscommunication stuff happened,
- 5:32Speaker 1: was seems like with him and Caleb, you know, just
- 5:34Speaker 1: something seemed off there in Chicago when he got traded there,
- 5:38Speaker 1: it made a ton of sense because they needed a
- 5:39Speaker 1: receiver so desperately. As part of that, Bryce Young turned
- 5:43Speaker 1: into Bryce Young and he had great chemistry with Fields.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I think he's gonna have great synergy with Josh Allen
- 5:49Speaker 1: because and what this offense I think is because yes,
- 5:52Speaker 1: they attack underneath a lot. You know, we can make
- 5:55Speaker 1: jokes about mash Mets mess, but you know how many
- 5:59Speaker 1: bubbles are thrown town Kay and Khalil Shakira and those
- 6:01Speaker 1: are good plays for the Bills. Like that's the thing.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It's like it works for them. They get get away
- 6:05Speaker 1: with it. It's not my favorite offense at times, but
- 6:07Speaker 1: they can get away with that. Dj Moore is phenomenal
- 6:10Speaker 1: on screens and underneath and YAC stuff. So even right there,
- 6:13Speaker 1: if we just stopped there, Okay, good fit, but he
- 6:16Speaker 1: has more receiver to him. He can win on the ball.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He doesn't need to be off the ball like Kincaid
- 6:20Speaker 1: and Shakira have to be. He can win on the ball.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He can be an ex he can win isolated, he
- 6:25Speaker 1: can win vertically. I've always thought it of him as
- 6:27Speaker 1: like a maybe not the best comparison for this, but
- 6:30Speaker 1: maybe if I go like a cross sports thing, a
- 6:33Speaker 1: guy that's really good of shooting at the rim and
- 6:35Speaker 1: three pointers but terrible in mid range. That's dj Okay,
- 6:39Speaker 1: good downfield, good on that vertical stem, kind of has
- 6:42Speaker 1: some great ball skills. That's what in Carolina what he
- 6:44Speaker 1: was really good at more than maybe in Chicago with
- 6:47Speaker 1: justin fields he got to see it a little bit.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That's perfect for what Josh Allen needs. Just think of
- 6:51Speaker 1: like some of those stuff on dig places where it's
- 6:53Speaker 1: just kind of like those back shoulders, those short back
- 6:55Speaker 1: shoulders more as good at those. He's got great ball
- 6:58Speaker 1: skills overall as far as it justin so he is
- 7:01Speaker 1: a type of flavor like in a perfect world and
- 7:03Speaker 1: they get some big but heemouth x like I had
- 7:06Speaker 1: Denzel Boston going to him and a few to the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Bills in a few mocks that was what I idealisticly
- 7:11Speaker 1: like idealistically picture DJ Moore is kind of an X
- 7:13Speaker 1: in a different way, but they really needed this. Is
- 7:17Speaker 1: he a true one? I could say, I'm more of
- 7:20Speaker 1: like a high high end two in a perfect world
- 7:22Speaker 1: or needs other complimentary parts. The Bills have a nice
- 7:25Speaker 1: other pieces that this is kind of be a good
- 7:27Speaker 1: role for him. But yeah, we can get to the compensation.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But I will say as far as more with the Bills,
- 7:33Speaker 1: they needed this. It makes sense stylistically with how Allen
- 7:36Speaker 1: wants to play. Some of the other guys get to
- 7:38Speaker 1: slot down a little bit in their roles. So I
- 7:41Speaker 1: understand why this happened.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm pretty much in lockstep with you
- 7:46Speaker 2: on that, Like I don't think again compartmentalizing the deal
- 7:50Speaker 2: itself and what they gave up for him, I mean,
- 7:52Speaker 2: he gives the Bills wide receiver room. I think needed burst, explosion, athleticism,
- 7:58Speaker 2: the juice like like you mentioned, like you've got the
- 8:00Speaker 2: YAK capabilities underneath, and they were already a tremendous YAK
- 8:03Speaker 2: team in and of themselves. Granted because a lot of
- 8:06Speaker 2: the offenses, like hey, Khalishak here, you're going to catch
- 8:08Speaker 2: the ball at the line of scrimmage and then just
- 8:09Speaker 2: go make some guys miss and do some stuff. Now
- 8:11Speaker 2: you add DJ more to that, who can do the
- 8:13Speaker 2: yak stuff underneath. But he can also stretch the field
- 8:16Speaker 2: vertically and horizontally, can send them deep on like the
- 8:19Speaker 2: clear out routes or have them.
- 8:20Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I my mind immediately went to the game winner against
- 8:24Speaker 2: Green Bay in Chicago and like week fifteen or whatever,
- 8:27Speaker 2: where Keshan Nickson is all over him. Yep, but he's
- 8:29Speaker 2: running that deep post wins the game. Nixon gets there
- 8:32Speaker 2: a little early, but he makes the catch to contact
- 8:34Speaker 2: ironically survives the ground on like maybe Brandon Cooks was that,
- 8:41Speaker 2: I know, I don't know.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I think, well, just.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Exactly, yeah, whatever you feel like going with it. Rocket,
- 8:51Speaker 2: And hey, I describe him as a guy who's gonna
- 8:53Speaker 2: win more with athleticism and speed than he will with
- 8:56Speaker 2: precise like route running or technique or sharpness or suddenness
- 8:59Speaker 2: to his game. Yeah, And I'm right there with you.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I think he's I think he's better suited to be
- 9:03Speaker 2: a wide receiver too, to be more of like a
- 9:05Speaker 2: Robin that hopefully gets a Batman or another Robin or
- 9:09Speaker 2: a night Wing or something like that to kind of
- 9:11Speaker 2: round everything out a little bit. But for him, just
- 9:15Speaker 2: as a player, he adds a needed skill set and
- 9:17Speaker 2: popped this Bill's wide receiver room. And now you take
- 9:20Speaker 2: that wide receiver room. And if we're looking at it
- 9:22Speaker 2: right now, it's you know, so you got DJ Moore,
- 9:24Speaker 2: You've got Josh Palmer, you've got Khalil Shakir, got Keank Coleman.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Don't really know what or who he is, and they don't.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Need Kean Coleman like that. That's what this does. It's
- 9:34Speaker 1: like whatever he turns into, okay, cool. If he ends
- 9:37Speaker 1: up getting his head on straight and everything's good, it's
- 9:38Speaker 1: a bonus. But now there's no there's no absolute need
- 9:42Speaker 1: that he has to do something. It's more like anything
- 9:44Speaker 1: that happens with him that's positive bonus.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, And that was my biggest thing, not to absolve
- 9:49Speaker 2: Kean of all the off the field stuff that's kind
- 9:51Speaker 2: of gotten in his way this past season. But my
- 9:53Speaker 2: biggest issue when the Bills drafted him was he was
- 9:57Speaker 2: a known project guy, like I thought, like a the
- 10:00Speaker 2: league was like, man, he's got these awesome frame in
- 10:02Speaker 2: these traits, but he needs some time to develop, he
- 10:05Speaker 2: needs some time to polish and all that. And instead
- 10:08Speaker 2: he goes to a win now team in a Super
- 10:12Speaker 2: Bowl window that needed him to contribute at the top
- 10:15Speaker 2: of the depth chart right away. And again that does
- 10:17Speaker 2: not absolve him of the off the field stuff, but
- 10:20Speaker 2: he went to a situation that wasn't really ideal to
- 10:23Speaker 2: set him up for success. He didn't go to a
- 10:24Speaker 2: situation that was like, Yep, you're gonna be able to
- 10:26Speaker 2: marinate for a couple of years, you can develop, let's
- 10:29Speaker 2: learn this game. They were like, hey, no, we need
- 10:31Speaker 2: you to go out and be Sean Kemp for wide
- 10:33Speaker 2: receivers right now and be an effective player for us
- 10:36Speaker 2: right out the gate. And he wasn't ready for that,
- 10:39Speaker 2: which again is someone on him, but I just always
- 10:41Speaker 2: thought it was questionable for the Bills taking that type
- 10:44Speaker 2: of player, injecting him into the lineup. And now, yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you get to in a good way, knock him down
- 10:49Speaker 2: a peg a little bit, and then you still got
- 10:52Speaker 2: Dalton Kinkaid who functions in as a primary pass catcher.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Things start to round out a little bit for that
- 10:56Speaker 2: pass catching group. Do you see now, you know you
- 10:59Speaker 2: mentioned Denzil Boston. I think a lot of fans would,
- 11:02Speaker 2: if they're looking at the Bills right now, still say like, hey,
- 11:05Speaker 2: they still need another wide receiver. Do you think that
- 11:08Speaker 2: is still on the menu for them? Do you think
- 11:11Speaker 2: they should still target a wide receiver day one, day
- 11:13Speaker 2: two if the right guy falls and on day one?
- 11:16Speaker 2: How much of a priority do you think wide receiver
- 11:18Speaker 2: is for this team? Now? Given DJ Moore's edition and
- 11:21Speaker 2: kind of what it means, it's.
- 11:23Speaker 1: More of a middle round one, Like yeah, I more
- 11:24Speaker 1: addressed that with maybe their fourth rounder as opposed to
- 11:28Speaker 1: a Day two or Day one. I think day one, well,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I want to see first off, what happens with McGovern
- 11:33Speaker 1: and Edwards, and then once those decisions are made, then
- 11:37Speaker 1: I can really prioritize what the Bills want to because
- 11:39Speaker 1: right now, like if they sign one, they sign both,
- 11:42Speaker 1: or they sign neither, because they're gonna get a pretty
- 11:44Speaker 1: penny both of them. Yep, Like they're both good players.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And I've been trying to tell people this for weeks now,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and I get off everyone kind of catches up with
- 11:50Speaker 1: the offensive line. I get it, but it's like one
- 11:52Speaker 1: of these things I'm like they're gonna get eighteen twenty million,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and I'm trying to kind of get that over to people,
- 11:57Speaker 1: like a solid starter gets. That's the price for a
- 11:59Speaker 1: solid starter right now in free agency, and I think
- 12:02Speaker 1: they're even better than that. So depending on what happens
- 12:04Speaker 1: with those guys, because if both are gone, uh, material
- 12:07Speaker 1: line like that is the number one priority, and if
- 12:10Speaker 1: we want to juice up this offense, I will say,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I like, if you just look at the pass catcher
- 12:15Speaker 1: room right now, you can be fine with this because
- 12:18Speaker 1: you have enough pieces as far as just the totality
- 12:21Speaker 1: of it all, where now you have a guy that
- 12:23Speaker 1: can actually be, like I said before, aligned on ball.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Even a guy like Joshua Palmer, who I always think
- 12:27Speaker 1: ideally is a power slot, like he can now be
- 12:30Speaker 1: off ball and do things and be a Z as
- 12:32Speaker 1: opposed to an X. So the fact that Moore is
- 12:34Speaker 1: an ex makes the other study. Now you don't need
- 12:36Speaker 1: a burner because more is your burner like him. Having
- 12:39Speaker 1: that skill set, which might not be perfect for everybody,
- 12:42Speaker 1: is kind of perfect for the Bills because what everyone
- 12:44Speaker 1: else brings to the table, who are more gritty players
- 12:47Speaker 1: or Shakiro who's kind of do it all Swiss army
- 12:49Speaker 1: knife kind of guy. I love Shakiro. I know you
- 12:51Speaker 1: know this. Yeah, yeah, He's one of my favorite hits.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I would say I have ever had like where I
- 12:55Speaker 1: was like, I was like, this is exactly what I
- 12:57Speaker 1: was telling everybody when he was coming out, Like he
- 12:59Speaker 1: just helps. He's just he's a winning football player. That's
- 13:02Speaker 1: that's Khalil Shakier. But everybody else I was Shavers didn't
- 13:05Speaker 1: get hurt. Yeah, I know he was man.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like as an actual pass catcher in addition
- 13:11Speaker 2: to being like a fun like blocker on duo.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Just some deep ball stuff. I know I was man like.
- 13:18Speaker 1: If he was healthy, I'd actually be like he was
- 13:20Speaker 1: kind of like one of these kind of dark horse guys,
- 13:22Speaker 1: Like may just keep an eye on him because I
- 13:24Speaker 1: think Alan likes him and he's doing some nice stuff him.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And who's the other kind of Ryan FLORINOI for the Cowboys.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Those are Shavers and Flora and I are two kind
- 13:34Speaker 1: of like I don't know, rotational receivers that really came
- 13:38Speaker 1: on the second half of last year. I swoped him
- 13:39Speaker 1: up in all my Dynasty teams, but I was so
- 13:42Speaker 1: I was like that's a big thing I've learned. Don't
- 13:44Speaker 1: praise the guy until I got him on my Dynasty teams,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and then I talk about him enough people in my
- 13:49Speaker 1: leagues listen to my shows. But no, but like they
- 13:52Speaker 1: do need one more guy, like I do say that,
- 13:55Speaker 1: But now again it's not the most desperate desperate need
- 13:57Speaker 1: that they have. I would again, I would say it's
- 13:58Speaker 1: more of a Day three throw another body type in there,
- 14:01Speaker 1: as opposed to like, okay, we got to keep addressed
- 14:03Speaker 1: in this double dip they like more really does help
- 14:06Speaker 1: pun intended slot everybody else in into the right sycee.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And yeah, and I don't know, I just look at
- 14:11Speaker 1: the defense too, and just you know, I'd rather they
- 14:13Speaker 1: address the defensive front or offensive front early with that
- 14:16Speaker 1: first round pick.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm right there with you. My biggest thing for
- 14:19Speaker 2: them at wide receiver this year was, you know, I
- 14:22Speaker 2: think they needed multiple additions and some combination of somebody
- 14:25Speaker 2: who can get you a bucket or just moves the
- 14:28Speaker 2: needle and then some kind of speed out of me.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It could be all that in one guy, it could
- 14:31Speaker 2: be multiple of each like even you know, I know
- 14:34Speaker 2: a lot of Bills fans like Romeo Dobbs, and I
- 14:35Speaker 2: was like, okay, cool, you could add Dobbs, but then
- 14:37Speaker 2: you still have to add like a field stretcher. You
- 14:39Speaker 2: still need a speed guy to go with what Dobbs is.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Now it's kind of the inverse of that. You get
- 14:43Speaker 2: DJ Moore, who is a wide receiver two forty but
- 14:46Speaker 2: top of the depth chart guy. He's got the speed,
- 14:47Speaker 2: he's got the athleticism. But now, Yeah, I think it's
- 14:50Speaker 2: fun because it opens up a little bit of with
- 14:52Speaker 2: what he is. You could still go for another burner,
- 14:55Speaker 2: you could go for a bigger body type, you can
- 14:58Speaker 2: go for more of a ze or power slot. You
- 15:00Speaker 2: can kind of add a little bit. However the board
- 15:02Speaker 2: falls to you given what Dj Moore is. And Yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 2: I think that's a really interesting part.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And I think we always think BPA as just everybody,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but sometimes there's BPA in a position. Yeah, Like, and
- 15:14Speaker 1: there's so many flavors of receiver, and there's gonna be
- 15:16Speaker 1: in every single draft class to at the end of time,
- 15:19Speaker 1: because receivers are very good. Now there's a lot of them.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I know Bill's fans are like what.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And I'm like, sious, why don't we have Eddy?
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Why are we trying to gout Brandon Cooks as receiver
- 15:31Speaker 2: won in the playoffs.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Playoffs and no one and no everyone keeps conveniently forgetting
- 15:36Speaker 1: about that. Like even it's not just Josh Allen, but
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's like c J. Stroud the week before to rookie
- 15:44Speaker 1: tight end three two of his linemen around, Everyone's like, well, CJ.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Stroud sucks. Now It's like, do you guys realize who
- 15:49Speaker 1: he's throwing to. He's throwing the Christian Kirk who got
- 15:51Speaker 1: traded for a seventh rounder. Yeah, it was hurt all
- 15:53Speaker 1: year and then a rookie Day two guy and everyone's
- 15:56Speaker 1: going like what happened to him? It's like I could
- 15:59Speaker 1: explain something. I can give you some context of what's
- 16:01Speaker 1: going on who's thrown to. But yeah, so it's not
- 16:04Speaker 1: just Bills fans, Like everyone's coming after my quarterback because
- 16:06Speaker 1: I thought the backlash of all that stuff. I know
- 16:07Speaker 1: no one wants to retread this, but I would say nationally,
- 16:11Speaker 1: it's very funny for me where everyone's guarded about their quarterback,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but everyone wants to yell at the other peams quarterback
- 16:16Speaker 1: because they feel like that team to that quarterback doesn't
- 16:18Speaker 1: get criticized enough. So as a national guy that's neutral
- 16:21Speaker 1: kind of see it all from all angles. So I
- 16:24Speaker 1: did notice who he was throwing to in a playoff game.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But but just talking about how everyone kind of fits
- 16:28Speaker 1: into a role. Now more can attack deep, can be
- 16:31Speaker 1: underneath the clear shit gears, underneath intermediate, dunkin Kaid's underneath intermediate.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Now you got enough guys that can attack all areas. Yes, again,
- 16:38Speaker 1: you'd have one more guy that can maybe threaten deep,
- 16:41Speaker 1: but now you have somebody as opposed to nobody and
- 16:45Speaker 1: everybody who's like very samy in the areas of the
- 16:48Speaker 1: field that they can attack. So now you have that
- 16:50Speaker 1: valid threat to kind of create space for everybody. Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I think it's a really good way to put it.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Like I know it's gotten some flack now, especially with
- 16:57Speaker 2: the bills, but I am a proponent of, like build
- 16:59Speaker 2: your wide receipt of a room like the basketball line up.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I like that versatility. But if if you've got five
- 17:06Speaker 2: guys and it's like three shooting guards and two power forwards,
- 17:10Speaker 2: it's like, well, you didn't really build the basketball lineup, you.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Just got like three, and everybody is relying on getting
- 17:17Speaker 1: to the rack and shooting eighteen footers. Then they're like, yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 1: you need someone to create space.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of like what the Clippers have been recently.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Like I'm a Clippers fan, but like nobody can shoot
- 17:25Speaker 2: the three, and you've got like some guys who can
- 17:27Speaker 2: create their shot and quiet rage game that As a
- 17:32Speaker 2: young kid, you're a fan, you know. So I was
- 17:36Speaker 2: beat in Buffalo and I'm a North Carolina fan. As
- 17:39Speaker 2: a little kid, I was a Raptors guy because of
- 17:41Speaker 2: Vince Carter. I was like, Vince Carter's sick and the
- 17:43Speaker 2: Raptors are right here. That's yeah. We grew up in
- 17:45Speaker 2: the nineties. I had a sick Raptors ninety starter jacket.
- 17:49Speaker 2: It was like so sick. And then he left Sonics.
- 17:53Speaker 1: One still parents have it, I should say, and I
- 17:56Speaker 1: want to my son. Yeah, like six, that's awesome.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And yes. So I rooted for the Raptors a bit
- 18:05Speaker 2: and then that faded and I didn't really have a
- 18:07Speaker 2: team that I learned the Clippers used to be in Buffalo.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I was like, oh sweet, like I'll root for the
- 18:11Speaker 2: Clippers and that was literally like a couple of years,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and then for the Chris Paul trade happened, and I
- 18:16Speaker 2: was like, oh, this is kind of fun and had
- 18:19Speaker 2: great timing for me, or so I thought. And then
- 18:22Speaker 2: Kawhi Leonard's been my favorite player since like his second
- 18:25Speaker 2: year in the league and he went to the Clippers.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, this is amazing, and oh,
- 18:29Speaker 2: what you know, Shake Gilless, Alexander might not turn into anything.
- 18:32Speaker 2: This trade is fine for Paul George, everything is gonna
- 18:34Speaker 2: be great. And then it wasn't. But yeah, the Clippers
- 18:37Speaker 2: like athleticism now with all the trades, and they can
- 18:40Speaker 2: they play good defense and they can attack it. They
- 18:42Speaker 2: can attack the rim, they can play in the paint,
- 18:43Speaker 2: they can shoot the mid range. They can't shoot a
- 18:45Speaker 2: three to save their life, like Kawhi can get them
- 18:47Speaker 2: there a little bit, and every once in a while,
- 18:48Speaker 2: Mathron I'll hit shots. But yeah, you it's nice to
- 18:51Speaker 2: build that lineup, but if you commit to that, you
- 18:54Speaker 2: have to commit to the basketball lineup. You have to
- 18:56Speaker 2: get the rest of those pieces. And I felt like
- 18:58Speaker 2: they went with he had too many shooting guards for
- 19:01Speaker 2: the Bills and too many power forwards, and it was like, okay,
- 19:03Speaker 2: like you need a point you need more of like
- 19:06Speaker 2: a you need more of a three and D guy
- 19:07Speaker 2: in the same like Wheel.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Well, yeah, so that's where Shavers should have been as
- 19:12Speaker 1: the three guy. Like yeah, I know, like Palmer is
- 19:14Speaker 1: a undersize four. You know, I'm right there with you, Like, yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: they had a lot of twos and fours and not
- 19:22Speaker 1: a lot of guys that can maybe create like a
- 19:24Speaker 1: little bit more on their own.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yes, and they should be the twos and fours in
- 19:27Speaker 2: the lineup where like your center is Jokic and you've
- 19:30Speaker 2: got like Steph Curry a point. So it's like, Okay,
- 19:32Speaker 2: that's like it's a little bit of different because you've
- 19:35Speaker 2: got these superstars that kind of end cap it a
- 19:36Speaker 2: little bit. But yeah, I'm interested to see the second
- 19:40Speaker 2: round pick and eating all the money they are. There's
- 19:43Speaker 2: multiple reports on how they're gonna shape shift the money around.
- 19:46Speaker 2: We'll see to that. I thought the second just because
- 19:49Speaker 2: of the contract, I thought it was a little high.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I know, you see that in a similar light, I
- 19:52Speaker 2: thought it would be more of like a third round pick,
- 19:54Speaker 2: a fourth round pick. But again, if you want to
- 19:58Speaker 2: play the game of like okay, that's second round pick.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Is DJ more better than whatever receiver they were probably
- 20:02Speaker 2: gonna get in the second round. Yeah, from an own
- 20:04Speaker 2: quantity perspective, sure, so I can buy that. But yeah,
- 20:06Speaker 2: I did think it was a little rich. And I
- 20:07Speaker 2: know you're kind of in locked up with that thought
- 20:09Speaker 2: as well.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, like just a tad ridge, not like an absolute
- 20:13Speaker 1: fleece or anything like that. But I just thought because
- 20:15Speaker 1: of age, because you know, some of the stuff you
- 20:17Speaker 1: have have to remember if you're paying a guy or
- 20:18Speaker 1: at least bringing a guy in, you know, effort stuff
- 20:21Speaker 1: is going to get criticized. And so the fact that
- 20:23Speaker 1: that's kind of hanging over his head, like that's not
- 20:25Speaker 1: lost on me. So that's where I would be, Like
- 20:28Speaker 1: I felt like nationally or league wide, his stock was
- 20:30Speaker 1: down because of that as well. You know, coaches talk
- 20:32Speaker 1: and personnel guys talk. Yeah, but you know, so I
- 20:36Speaker 1: figured his range. I thought a third would be the
- 20:38Speaker 1: most he would get. Third or like a flop, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 1: like a third shad this kind of thing. You know,
- 20:43Speaker 1: Like that's the kind of why I vision my head
- 20:45Speaker 1: maybe a fourth because of the contract stuff spooped people, Yep,
- 20:48Speaker 1: So like this this is Yes, it's a late second.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yes it's not a great draft. I'll be honest, but
- 20:53Speaker 1: there is a lot of there's a lot of interesting
- 20:55Speaker 1: Day two guys. I would say the range in this draft,
- 20:57Speaker 1: like twenty five to sixty is more interesting than me
- 20:59Speaker 1: in the top And yes, not to say yeah, it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: just there's a lot of what I call green chips
- 21:04Speaker 1: in this draft and some conturn of the stars. Like
- 21:07Speaker 1: that's why I think it's interesting. Uh, it's gonna be
- 21:09Speaker 1: very interesting draft cycle because there's a lack of consensus,
- 21:11Speaker 1: so it's gonna be very Yes, so yeah, April is
- 21:15Speaker 1: gonna get weird. But they but I think that that
- 21:18Speaker 1: was just a tad rich And again I'm not gonna
- 21:20Speaker 1: beat down and paying the contract is a tad rich.
- 21:22Speaker 1: But they are a desperate team in ways, so that's
- 21:25Speaker 1: what expert teams kind of do. They kind of have
- 21:27Speaker 1: built their desperation, you know a little bit. So that's
- 21:31Speaker 1: that's just how I looked at it. But I'm not
- 21:33Speaker 1: gonna go like, oh my god, this is the worst
- 21:35Speaker 1: trade I've ever seen in my life. Oh my god.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I just thought if my initial review is like, oh,
- 21:40Speaker 1: b minus, you know, kind of like as far as
- 21:42Speaker 1: the compensation, you know, it was like, yeah, I think
- 21:44Speaker 1: the Bears did the best they could, but I think
- 21:46Speaker 1: the Bills maybe just overpaid a little. But again, everything
- 21:49Speaker 1: we talked about, all those positives, if it works out,
- 21:51Speaker 1: everyone slots in. Who cares, you know, like you know,
- 21:54Speaker 1: everybody cares for where this Bills team is at, Like
- 21:57Speaker 1: you're building to this window. So yeah, like I don't
- 22:00Speaker 1: seen it is wide wide, wide, wide, wide open, And
- 22:02Speaker 1: I just keep trying to bring that up to people.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It's like everybody's the Chiefs are taking a step back. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 1: Bills are figuring out what they're doing, The Ravens are.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'm pretty optimist about the Ravens where they're going this offseason. Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: but like the Jacks could go a couple of ways,
- 22:14Speaker 1: the Texans could go a couple of ways. I'm optimistic,
- 22:17Speaker 1: but also like they could have felt this offseason and
- 22:20Speaker 1: just take a step back. Like so the AFC is
- 22:23Speaker 1: just like whatever team, whatever team kind of really hits
- 22:27Speaker 1: this offseason, not just these big moves but filling in
- 22:29Speaker 1: the lines. Yeah, like it's a very wide open conference
- 22:32Speaker 1: and so like, yeah, that's why I'm not like totally
- 22:34Speaker 1: opposed to this. I know other national people are probably
- 22:36Speaker 1: gonna just go like make memes about being and I
- 22:39Speaker 1: get that it's easy. He's like, he's the punching bag
- 22:41Speaker 1: right now. Yes, it was a little rich, but it
- 22:43Speaker 1: wasn't the worst deal I've ever seen in my life
- 22:45Speaker 1: because it makes sense as far as where these teams
- 22:47Speaker 1: are at.
- 22:48Speaker 2: The only thing I'm waiting for is for Bill's fans
- 22:52Speaker 2: to want to burn everything to the ground if, like,
- 22:54Speaker 2: if Alec Pierce signs for a deal similar to what
- 22:56Speaker 2: like DJ Moore's average annual value is.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that would be.
- 22:59Speaker 2: As terrible because it's like everyone all like.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Since for all, so it would be so perfect for him.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Dude, Yeah, like everybody, like even the most casual of
- 23:10Speaker 2: fans starting in like October was like Alec Pierce, Alec Pearce,
- 23:13Speaker 2: Alec Pierce. And then as the season when I was like, nah,
- 23:15Speaker 2: he's gonna get paid, Like it's not even worth discussing.
- 23:18Speaker 2: But if he gets something close to what DJ Moore's
- 23:22Speaker 2: annual average value is, the Bill's mafia is gonna want
- 23:25Speaker 2: to burn the world to the ground. That's gonna be yep,
- 23:27Speaker 2: that's gonna be the first thing. We gave up a
- 23:29Speaker 2: second round pick to get DJ Moore when we could
- 23:31Speaker 2: have kept that pick and just paid Alec Pierce. What's
- 23:33Speaker 2: going on? Yeah, that's that's the one thing I'm like
- 23:35Speaker 2: worried about because I was like, I think Alec Pearce
- 23:37Speaker 2: is gonna get between like twenty to twenty four million year,
- 23:40Speaker 2: and that's right where DJ Moore is. He could have
- 23:42Speaker 2: had that for Alec Pierce.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I think I think last I saw was Pierce get
- 23:47Speaker 1: like twenty seven.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Oh my god, climb even hot cheese, I mean I
- 23:50Speaker 2: get it. Athleticism and juice.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Hey eleven mild he's barely even playable. But just that
- 23:58Speaker 1: archetype is always going to get paid because the boot
- 24:01Speaker 1: like dij market do it a little bit, but that
- 24:02Speaker 1: boost effect that it has on everybody else, just that's
- 24:05Speaker 1: worth so much money. And then Pierce actually though like connects, Yes,
- 24:09Speaker 1: it's just the Yeah, he actually connects again. It's like
- 24:12Speaker 1: doing the basketball analogies, like he can shoot threes, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: he shoots that forty six percent, Yeah, and at a
- 24:17Speaker 1: high volume, you know, relatively, and.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Like plays defense and can drive the link a little bit.
- 24:22Speaker 1: And he's like developing, he's developing some handles a little bit, right,
- 24:25Speaker 1: His route running has gotten better. Yeah, Like I know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's funny, everybody wants Alec Pearson. It's like, guess what
- 24:30Speaker 1: every team wants Alex Pierce. Yeah, but again he's not
- 24:33Speaker 1: a one, he's a two. But his skill set can
- 24:36Speaker 1: really boost everybody else.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and in this wide receiver market where he's happened,
- 24:41Speaker 2: Like I'm Josh Palmer got decently paid by the Bills
- 24:43Speaker 2: to dat well last year.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Though, A twenty something million bro.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it is, and he's in He's I
- 24:48Speaker 2: like Dobbs a lot. He's a wide receiver too. I'm
- 24:50Speaker 2: not paying him that much, like, but he's the market
- 24:53Speaker 2: is what the market is, and that's a market. I know.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I always try to explain that to people like Dan
- 24:57Speaker 1: Moore got paid last year and it's like that's he's
- 24:59Speaker 1: a starting left tack yep, I know he's average at best. Yeah,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it's a market. There's no fair value in a market.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You know, it's whatever someone lie.
- 25:08Speaker 1: There's the man like, Yeah, every every year it's different.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Everyone's got different resources every single year and different needs
- 25:13Speaker 1: every single year, and there's different draft classes every single year.
- 25:16Speaker 1: So it's like the markets are gonna be so wildly
- 25:18Speaker 1: different every single year. So I know that's I felt
- 25:22Speaker 1: like the last month. That's why I keep saying to people,
- 25:23Speaker 1: it's like twenty million dollars that's the price to forget
- 25:27Speaker 1: these guys. I know that's crazy, but that's what Titus
- 25:29Speaker 1: Howard just got paid. It gets twenty one MILLI year.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I think it was chunk.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And that's been my whole thing with wide receivers, Like
- 25:36Speaker 2: I'd be like, oh, what do you think of this guy?
- 25:37Speaker 2: This guy was like I'm not even gonna you're gonna
- 25:39Speaker 2: pay twenty plus mili dobs like you can, but then
- 25:42Speaker 2: you're also kind of screwed or are you gonna pay close.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Scre guy if you have dobs? Actually your point? So yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 1: what do you do?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Like how do you put the puzzle pieces together? Yeah?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Like I I'm right there with you, but yeah, yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 2: that's the one thing I think Bill's fans eventually will
- 25:56Speaker 2: calm down and be like, Okay, DJ more is cool
- 25:57Speaker 2: and right when they think that it's gonna be like
- 26:00Speaker 2: Alec Pierce signed for twenty three million a year and there, yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 2: all of it, all of it all right, let's pivot
- 26:08Speaker 2: to Joe Brady. Uh, you know you. Sean McDermot gets
- 26:15Speaker 2: fired on Monday the nineteenth, Yes, and you text me, man, man,
- 26:21Speaker 2: what is going on? And I responded, I was like, yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 2: you know mc dermot fire and this and that, being
- 26:26Speaker 2: gets promoted And you responded back, being got promoted exclamation point.
- 26:30Speaker 2: That's insane to me. And we started talking a little
- 26:33Speaker 2: bit and then we were both like, you know, god feeling,
- 26:35Speaker 2: I feel like Joe Brady's going to be the head
- 26:37Speaker 2: coach lo and behold he ends up becoming a head coach.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Let's again compartmentalize that Joe Brady's a head coach to
- 26:43Speaker 2: put that into a different bucket. Joe Brady purely is
- 26:46Speaker 2: an offensive mine for you. Play caller designer, his passing concepts,
- 26:51Speaker 2: we know the whole like mesh Meme jokes at this point,
- 26:54Speaker 2: and kind of how he spams the same play calls
- 26:56Speaker 2: over and over again, the five man protection stuff and
- 26:59Speaker 2: the lack of adjustment there and how that's reared its head.
- 27:03Speaker 2: And then also kind of him as an offensive play
- 27:05Speaker 2: caller within the backdrop of knowing how important the run
- 27:09Speaker 2: game has been to the Bills the past two years.
- 27:11Speaker 2: It's been It's so funny to have you on now,
- 27:13Speaker 2: because like when I first had you out in like
- 27:14Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, we were talking like, man, Bills need
- 27:16Speaker 2: a pivot. The Bills offense needs to pivot. They need
- 27:18Speaker 2: a run game.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Bucks game. That one Bucks game is burned into my.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Brain stuff and the Allen keepers and yeah, yeah, they were.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Thrown it over and over and RPO over and over
- 27:28Speaker 1: and over, and I'm like, this gotta change, Like you
- 27:29Speaker 1: guys hit the max here and this has got it.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I feel like they've thought the same thing actually yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 1: like and then is burned into my brain.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and they got the pivot and their run game
- 27:38Speaker 2: has been great.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yep.
- 27:40Speaker 2: But then we find out that, you know, essentially the
- 27:42Speaker 2: run game was designed and called on game days by
- 27:46Speaker 2: Aaron Kromer. So Aaron Kromer is essentially the run game
- 27:48Speaker 2: designer and game day caller, which is cool, the collaboration
- 27:53Speaker 2: between him and Brady and being able to make that
- 27:54Speaker 2: work during a game, because that's a lot of moving
- 27:56Speaker 2: pieces and that's hard. But also you can play Devil's
- 27:58Speaker 2: Advocate from the negative side and say, arguably the best
- 28:02Speaker 2: thing about the Bills offense aside from Josh Allen was
- 28:05Speaker 2: the run game, and Joe Brady really wasn't in charge
- 28:08Speaker 2: of that. So knowing that and then putting that together
- 28:12Speaker 2: again with Joe Brady is a play caller, designer, his
- 28:15Speaker 2: passing concepts, who and what he is? You know, what
- 28:17Speaker 2: are your thoughts on him? Kind of as as an
- 28:19Speaker 2: offensive mine again even though he's the CEO head coach,
- 28:22Speaker 2: which is really a lie because he's still running the
- 28:24Speaker 2: offense and can't be the CEO coaches saying that term
- 28:28Speaker 2: words have meaning. You can't just say things.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Saying CEO CEO head coach means I'm not calling place.
- 28:34Speaker 1: That's why you use the term CEO head coach. They
- 28:37Speaker 1: can't You're not a CEO head coach. You can't be
- 28:41Speaker 1: both exactly. Yeah, no, uh no, Joe Brady in like
- 28:49Speaker 1: Joe Brady, like Kellen Moore, I've kind of like always
- 28:52Speaker 1: kind of grouped together and good and bad. I think,
- 28:56Speaker 1: uh with Joe Brady, and I appreciate this. I'm glad
- 28:58Speaker 1: you brought the run game stuff because that would be
- 29:00Speaker 1: his biggest quality. He's not a guy one of these
- 29:02Speaker 1: kind of forgot as a receiver background. He's not one
- 29:05Speaker 1: of these quarterback coaches passing gurus that just goes, well,
- 29:08Speaker 1: we're gonna throw it forty five times, like what Brian Gable,
- 29:11Speaker 1: because we're doing sometimes all the RPO stuff that he
- 29:15Speaker 1: knows that the wrong game is important. So like that
- 29:17Speaker 1: is one thing I really do appreciate with him. But
- 29:19Speaker 1: like you said, Devil's advocate, and that's actually what was
- 29:20Speaker 1: gonna be. My point was even his two nine twenty
- 29:23Speaker 1: nineteen hours U year that got him into the forefront.
- 29:26Speaker 1: He won the Boroughs Award, same thing he only called
- 29:28Speaker 1: pass plays.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say he's the passing game coordinator. Yeah.
- 29:31Speaker 1: After that, yeah, esben Ger was actually the primary play
- 29:34Speaker 1: care and then when I got the passing downs, Brady
- 29:36Speaker 1: got it. Which also I've always been like, I feel
- 29:39Speaker 1: like that's a weird award to just give the guy
- 29:41Speaker 1: that's called that's all. I've always like, Yeah, I don't know.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I was like, does that more of a common like
- 29:47Speaker 1: knowledge and we just kind of I don't know if
- 29:49Speaker 1: I was Steve Asbinger is a good team player. If
- 29:53Speaker 1: he's a team player, I'll put it that way. So yeah,
- 29:57Speaker 1: So I think Brady's best attribute, like even when he
- 29:59Speaker 1: was in Carolina, he's good at knowing what his quarterback
- 30:03Speaker 1: is comfortable with and streamlining it with Sam Darnold. They
- 30:08Speaker 1: ran choice routes CMC like every other play, and it
- 30:12Speaker 1: was because, well, no one's stopping it, so it's running again,
- 30:14Speaker 1: which again is something I appreciate. Sometimes coaches get a
- 30:17Speaker 1: little too cute and they're like, well, they'll be on
- 30:18Speaker 1: to us, not Joe Brady, he'll call the same run
- 30:21Speaker 1: play or whoever was calling it. Look at the Steelers game, like, yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 1: seven times in.
- 30:25Speaker 4: A row, Yeah, du duo and god and their I
- 30:30Speaker 4: was saying, it's they're running the same formation and it's
- 30:32Speaker 4: either duo or mid zone week and that's literally all.
- 30:35Speaker 2: They're from the same personnel, the same alignment, the same
- 30:38Speaker 2: formation left, that's it. That's it. Yeah, it was. And
- 30:41Speaker 2: they were literally was just like, well, and it goes
- 30:43Speaker 2: back to when when they were calling all the tackle
- 30:45Speaker 2: poll stuff against Dallas a couple of years ago. They
- 30:47Speaker 2: were like, Oh, you're gonna you're you have a small
- 30:50Speaker 2: linebacking corn, You're only gonna put five and six in
- 30:51Speaker 2: the box. We're just gonna run dart all day and
- 30:54Speaker 2: tackle long trap all day. Good luck, And Dallas couldn't stop,
- 30:57Speaker 2: and so they just kept running.
- 30:59Speaker 1: That's it. It's if it's not there's a lot of
- 31:01Speaker 1: coaches that get spooked. They're like, well they're gonna adjust.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It's like, well, until you see the adjustment, just keep
- 31:05Speaker 1: calling it. So but like I will say, yeah, the
- 31:09Speaker 1: mesh meme or whatever you want to call. And this
- 31:11Speaker 1: is something I've been really kind of just marinating on,
- 31:13Speaker 1: even just talking about all quarterbacks, is that you know,
- 31:16Speaker 1: every quarterback is going to have their influence on the offense,
- 31:19Speaker 1: especially established guys. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's not good.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I say, in Philly, you're seeing the bad sides of that.
- 31:27Speaker 1: When Russell Wilson was in his prime, you saw some
- 31:29Speaker 1: bad sides of that. I was around a guy Derek Carr.
- 31:32Speaker 1: We had some of that where I was like, oh,
- 31:33Speaker 1: that plays not a good play, but he was comfortable
- 31:35Speaker 1: with it, so we would run it. You see that.
- 31:38Speaker 1: So I've been kind of going with mesh or whatever
- 31:41Speaker 1: is that just because Josh Allen loves it. And then
- 31:43Speaker 1: you know Brady's just like, all right, well, this is
- 31:45Speaker 1: his play. So that's where I'm not I've taken a
- 31:47Speaker 1: half step back of being like, oh, that's all him
- 31:50Speaker 1: all that stuff. But having said that, part of your
- 31:53Speaker 1: job as a coach is to coax out or give
- 31:56Speaker 1: your player a tool to then or just build that
- 31:59Speaker 1: trust to go like we've been doing this, but we
- 32:01Speaker 1: got to try this now because I think this is
- 32:02Speaker 1: why you got to do that. So to me, I'm
- 32:04Speaker 1: not in the building or anything, but I just looking
- 32:06Speaker 1: as an outside looking at context. It's like a TVD
- 32:10Speaker 1: grade for me. I want to see this year if
- 32:12Speaker 1: they learn from that, if they learned the memes, because
- 32:14Speaker 1: always Brady in the first month or the season for
- 32:16Speaker 1: six weeks or some cool stuff with the motion stuff,
- 32:19Speaker 1: the orbit stop split back stuff, but then they never
- 32:22Speaker 1: evolve after the first six weeks. And that's just something
- 32:25Speaker 1: I've noticed a couple of times he did in Carolina
- 32:27Speaker 1: as well, where it was just like, Okay, what's your
- 32:29Speaker 1: next thing? Like, what's your next layer to that bass play?
- 32:32Speaker 2: You have?
- 32:33Speaker 1: How many times have you Bill's fans seen either switch
- 32:36Speaker 1: verts to a Dunton kincaid or a leak to a
- 32:39Speaker 1: running back as soon as you guys get past the
- 32:41Speaker 1: thirty yard line, leak right through the information to the
- 32:44Speaker 1: running back and then the tight end runs a crossing route. Again,
- 32:46Speaker 1: those are fine plays, they're good plays. I just never
- 32:49Speaker 1: ever see that next step from them, like, Okay, we
- 32:52Speaker 1: showed that fastball a whole bunch of times. Well here
- 32:54Speaker 1: comes the change up and then it like really throws
- 32:56Speaker 1: off the defense. So that's my knock on Brady. But again,
- 33:00Speaker 1: is that because he's like that's what Alan wants or
- 33:02Speaker 1: is that what he wants or is that some other influence.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I don't know, but it just as when I look
- 33:06Speaker 1: at whatever contacts like that, it's like, well, the quarterback
- 33:09Speaker 1: has to be comfortable that, that's why they're leaning into it.
- 33:10Speaker 1: So it's more like I do think that Brady is
- 33:13Speaker 1: a good play caller because again, I think he has
- 33:15Speaker 1: good bones to his play calling as far as what
- 33:17Speaker 1: he knows is what his good stuff is. I think
- 33:20Speaker 1: there's maybe what I want to see and maybe if
- 33:22Speaker 1: I'm assessing him this year as a play caller, which
- 33:25Speaker 1: now is I did like the higherst that he had,
- 33:26Speaker 1: like Pete Carmichael to help him out and stuff I do,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I do like that, But I want to see, like, Okay,
- 33:31Speaker 1: what's your next step that you're gonna do? Because you
- 33:33Speaker 1: have no more excuses I should say, you have no
- 33:34Speaker 1: more shackles or hypothetical shackles that you might have had
- 33:37Speaker 1: under McDermot because we don't know. Yes, yeah, so we
- 33:41Speaker 1: can we can try and gas but you know, so yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 1: like every offense is like you know, it's like venom.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Like it's like every offense takes that from their quarterback,
- 33:50Speaker 1: Like it changes the Citiote somebody. Yeah, like it based
- 33:53Speaker 1: only the quarterback is. And so like right now it's
- 33:57Speaker 1: this for the Bills. I'm curious if it kind of
- 33:59Speaker 1: molds into some different and kind of this new next
- 34:01Speaker 1: step for the Bills franchise.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I like that, yeah, and I'm hopeful. One of my
- 34:05Speaker 2: biggest things for Brady when he came on and took
- 34:07Speaker 2: over for Dorsey, I was like, oh, you know, he's
- 34:11Speaker 2: he kind of made Clyde Edwards Hilaire Bio a first
- 34:13Speaker 2: round pick coming out of LSU. Like the way he
- 34:15Speaker 2: weaponized his running backs in the past. I was like, Okay,
- 34:16Speaker 2: this could work. And then we started seeing like the
- 34:18Speaker 2: running back mess traffic stuff and all the rail stuff
- 34:21Speaker 2: and everything was working. And they're they're running back target
- 34:24Speaker 2: numbers last year and twelve last year is now twenty
- 34:27Speaker 2: twenty five, twenty twenty four. I do that.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I've been doing this a bunch of sto like last year,
- 34:31Speaker 1: meaning twenty four.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Yes, it's killing me in everything. I'm still in like
- 34:34Speaker 2: this season of twenty.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Five, I'm speaking to your language.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I appreciate you. In twenty twenty four, they're like EPA
- 34:41Speaker 2: per target numbers and EPA numbers and yards per reception
- 34:44Speaker 2: for like running back stuff was astronomically high, like they
- 34:48Speaker 2: were first and everything. The Niners were second with CMC,
- 34:51Speaker 2: but they were like light years behind the Bills, like
- 34:53Speaker 2: they blew the doors off everybody. And one of my
- 34:56Speaker 2: biggest grapes this year coming in is that all kind
- 34:59Speaker 2: of stayed the like it was really just like, we're
- 35:01Speaker 2: just gonna run rail routes off a mesh. It's either
- 35:03Speaker 2: gonna be mesh rail or we're gonna run the rail
- 35:05Speaker 2: route with you know, to the single receiver side and
- 35:07Speaker 2: a three by one. We'll have this single receiver run
- 35:09Speaker 2: like a little snag to try and obstruct the linebacker.
- 35:13Speaker 2: And everybody was just like, oh, you know what this is.
- 35:15Speaker 2: We're just gonna do the same thing and get over
- 35:16Speaker 2: the top and take away the rail and Alan wouldn't
- 35:18Speaker 2: want to pull the trigger and they wouldn't do that.
- 35:20Speaker 2: And I'm hoping you get Pete Carmichael in there, and
- 35:23Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, maybe let's get some New Orleans Saints
- 35:26Speaker 2: Alvin Kamara, mark Ingram Pierre Thomas type of stuff going on.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Let's work some of the backs in a couple of
- 35:30Speaker 2: different ways. Yeah, just that next level layering. I thought
- 35:33Speaker 2: we saw some glimpses of it in the playoffs, some
- 35:36Speaker 2: cool stuff how we built. But yeah, it was just
- 35:38Speaker 2: a lot of too much same same in both the
- 35:40Speaker 2: good and bad ways. And even the Mesh one Mesh
- 35:43Speaker 2: gets talked about a bunch. The big one for me
- 35:45Speaker 2: too was they would just run double China y option
- 35:49Speaker 2: Ton and it would usually manifest with the seven from Kincaid,
- 35:52Speaker 2: but sometimes we would you know, bend it and turn
- 35:54Speaker 2: into the middle of the field, and that was such
- 35:56Speaker 2: a big thing. Like I would look at a three
- 35:57Speaker 2: by one and if Kincaid was the three to the
- 36:00Speaker 2: three receiver side, and I saw Shakir outside and Samuel
- 36:03Speaker 2: is the two or whoever, I was like, here comes
- 36:05Speaker 2: the double China up and that's one of movies all
- 36:07Speaker 2: the time. And it was either that or Mesh or
- 36:11Speaker 2: you know, the the package players or the runs with
- 36:13Speaker 2: the pass tag where Alan is kicking it out for
- 36:15Speaker 2: the bubble. Sometimes it's an RBL. Yeah, and that was
- 36:19Speaker 2: the offense, and they they built on that a little.
- 36:21Speaker 2: You got the touchdown to Kincaid, I think against Jacksonville
- 36:24Speaker 2: where they faked the bubble and Kincaid goes up the sideline.
- 36:26Speaker 2: You're like, okay, let's build a little. But I just
- 36:28Speaker 2: kept waiting and there was some but not a ton
- 36:31Speaker 2: and yeah, I wasn't I like the kind of bucketing
- 36:34Speaker 2: him with Kellen Moore. Yeah, I don't think. I don't
- 36:37Speaker 2: think Brady's a bad offensive mine. I don't think he's great.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I don't think I would look at him and what
- 36:42Speaker 2: he did and be like, that's the guy wants my
- 36:43Speaker 2: head coach. But hey, to each their own kind of
- 36:47Speaker 2: pick your poison and if that's what you like, uh, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 2: that's what you like.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I think on the bell curve that play called
- 36:53Speaker 1: there you go. Yeah, they are like he is if
- 36:56Speaker 1: midpoints right here, he's like at two o'clock in the
- 36:58Speaker 1: good way, you know, like a B you know. Yeah,
- 37:01Speaker 1: I would say if season in the middle b B
- 37:03Speaker 1: mind and yeah, and that's like how I always assessed
- 37:05Speaker 1: Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore stuff was always sound. He always
- 37:07Speaker 1: addressed the run game, but sometimes he won, he would
- 37:10Speaker 1: get a little too cute informational stuff. And I actually
- 37:13Speaker 1: think he got away from that in a good way
- 37:15Speaker 1: when when he got to Philly. And but I do
- 37:18Speaker 1: think that like at the times he could get a
- 37:19Speaker 1: little frustrating whar it was like, Okay, what's your next step,
- 37:21Speaker 1: what's your next layer? I kind of I've always kind
- 37:23Speaker 1: of categorized those two as the same kind of simwhere
- 37:26Speaker 1: tier I think that's fair.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I think that's fair. I want to move on to
- 37:29Speaker 2: this next topic kind of talking within who the bills are?
- 37:32Speaker 2: What the bills are? We mentioned this player earlier, Dalton Kincaid.
- 37:36Speaker 2: This is something I've talked about a bunch since really
- 37:39Speaker 2: he was drafted, and I know you've talked about it
- 37:42Speaker 2: sporadically through his career as well. I just want to
- 37:45Speaker 2: talk about dalnkan Kaid and his usage and his role
- 37:48Speaker 2: and what that means for an offense but also for defenses.
- 37:50Speaker 2: And it's again compartmentalizing. Again, this is the Bengal word
- 37:53Speaker 2: of the day here. I guess he his injury prone, right,
- 37:57Speaker 2: so let's compartmentalize that, like forget about the availability thing,
- 37:59Speaker 2: even though that's a significant thing with him, like he
- 38:01Speaker 2: gets banged up to the point where he either misses
- 38:03Speaker 2: games or he plays and he's on a snap count
- 38:06Speaker 2: or a pitch count because he's unable to go full tilt.
- 38:08Speaker 2: But I just want to focus on him, and I
- 38:11Speaker 2: think he's a good player, like as the tip of
- 38:14Speaker 2: the spear for this passing offense. He is a mismatch creator,
- 38:17Speaker 2: and he's been good when he's been on the field.
- 38:19Speaker 2: But I want to talk about kind of the negative
- 38:21Speaker 2: side of it, of just the limitations of him as
- 38:24Speaker 2: a tight end, even if he was completely healthy all
- 38:27Speaker 2: the time, but just the limitations because you can't use
- 38:30Speaker 2: him in line with any semblance of consistency and or
- 38:34Speaker 2: like not having a tell to a defense if you're
- 38:36Speaker 2: if he's attached to the line or hipped off, you're
- 38:39Speaker 2: either running zone away from him, right or you're doing
- 38:41Speaker 2: something el because you're you're not gonna run duo to him.
- 38:43Speaker 2: You're not gonna have him be the point of attack
- 38:45Speaker 2: type of player. And I just want to talk about
- 38:48Speaker 2: what that means for an offense schematically and structurally, but
- 38:52Speaker 2: also by extension, what it means for defenses when they're
- 38:56Speaker 2: matching with personnel and or kind of playing off of
- 38:59Speaker 2: tendency he's knowing like where he's going to be or
- 39:02Speaker 2: where he's not going to be, and how that factors
- 39:04Speaker 2: into his overall value and his role within this offense.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it's a great question because that's how I've
- 39:10Speaker 1: kind of you know, Kinkaid, Sam Laporta, other guys that
- 39:14Speaker 1: maybe receiver only, I would say receiving only kind of
- 39:18Speaker 1: tight ends and like the porter be willing to scrap
- 39:20Speaker 1: and he just gets destroyed anytime. Yes, so go gets
- 39:23Speaker 1: any size. But like that, it's such a great point
- 39:25Speaker 1: because the tendencies and defenses are just so so so
- 39:29Speaker 1: smart now, like NFL defenses are incredibly smart and not
- 39:32Speaker 1: just smart like the players, but just the coaching and
- 39:35Speaker 1: the opponent scouting is so good. Now, like you're just saying, hey,
- 39:39Speaker 1: this tight end is there, Okay, I can narrow it down.
- 39:41Speaker 1: If you narrow it down, you want to track every
- 39:44Speaker 1: formation and every look a rock paper scissors battle we've
- 39:47Speaker 1: talked about, yes, but if you take away rock, okay,
- 39:50Speaker 1: now it's paper and scissors. And then if you're in
- 39:52Speaker 1: this formation, it's just scissors. Every time. Maybe you get
- 39:55Speaker 1: him once, but over time that's going to get destroyed
- 39:58Speaker 1: by good defenses and just smart de defences. So that's
- 40:01Speaker 1: why when I even assess guys, and sometimes I can
- 40:04Speaker 1: be a little different than the consensus when it comes around,
- 40:07Speaker 1: is that I always look at snaps impacted. Are you
- 40:09Speaker 1: able to play on be on the field all the time,
- 40:11Speaker 1: or if you're a running back, are you able to pass,
- 40:13Speaker 1: protect or receive? Or do I have to take you
- 40:15Speaker 1: off on third down? If you're a tight end, do
- 40:17Speaker 1: you have to be Do I have to do anything
- 40:19Speaker 1: scheme wise to hide your one of your deficiencies with KK?
- 40:22Speaker 1: Do you do? And I also think that he is
- 40:25Speaker 1: a receiving weapon, but he just has to be used
- 40:28Speaker 1: in a particular way. Yes, he is a fragile player,
- 40:32Speaker 1: not not in the sense of injury wise, but more
- 40:34Speaker 1: of a like, all right, if he can't can't cover
- 40:37Speaker 1: somebody else's injury, he has to be used. How's don't
- 40:40Speaker 1: gets used? He's not like someone else gets hurt. It's like, okay,
- 40:43Speaker 1: well KK can do that for a week or two
- 40:45Speaker 1: and then we can bring Nope, he gets used on
- 40:47Speaker 1: these switch routes. He gets used on just certain ways.
- 40:50Speaker 1: He is good at them. He's just a very specific player.
- 40:53Speaker 1: And that's why I even a big talking point. Bills
- 40:57Speaker 1: are part of this. The rams are a curse, the
- 40:59Speaker 1: biggest part of this. But thirteen stuff. I've got to
- 41:02Speaker 1: ask a couple of questions from people the last few months,
- 41:05Speaker 1: going like, Okay, if team's going, if people are going
- 41:07Speaker 1: to more multi tight end looks, how important is the
- 41:09Speaker 1: receiving tight end? And actually my counter has been not
- 41:12Speaker 1: the blocking tight end is more important to unlock the receiving.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Titand Jackson Hawes, baby, there you go.
- 41:19Speaker 1: As much as you want to if we want to
- 41:20Speaker 1: rag On Bean, I think he nailed two picks last year,
- 41:23Speaker 1: Deon Walker and Jackson Hawes, Like I think I think
- 41:26Speaker 1: Deon Walker can be something. Yeah, he's not great, He's
- 41:29Speaker 1: not great stylistic fit with that Oliver, that's the only issue.
- 41:32Speaker 1: You'd want one of them, not both of them. But
- 41:33Speaker 1: that yeah, that's that's a problem for Jim Leonard to decide.
- 41:36Speaker 2: And now and now it's like, all right, is he
- 41:38Speaker 2: gonna moonlight as a nose and a four? I are
- 41:40Speaker 2: you gonna?
- 41:41Speaker 5: Like?
- 41:41Speaker 2: I get how he fits.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Leonard's for his skill set, because Leonard's his noses attack,
- 41:46Speaker 1: you know, moving and slanning and as opposed to holding.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Up Keanu Betton at Wisconsin, Let's great movement.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly attacking nose. Anyone does know, like I,
- 41:58Speaker 1: but like I, that's one of my favorite hires his
- 42:00Speaker 1: entire off seasons, the Bill's hiring gym Leondard.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we were. I was pumped with We were texted
- 42:04Speaker 2: about it. We were like, man, this would be really sweet.
- 42:05Speaker 2: And then it happened and you mastered my excitement and
- 42:07Speaker 2: I was.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Like, oh, this is Leonard's awesome. Guys, Like, there is
- 42:10Speaker 1: stuff that people that get more credit, Like I would
- 42:14Speaker 1: say Kirby Smart, I would say saving all the way.
- 42:17Speaker 1: But Dave Randa and what we see in the NFL
- 42:19Speaker 1: a little bit right now, maybe from like the Minter
- 42:21Speaker 1: and McDonald's of the world. They were using Leonard's stuff.
- 42:25Speaker 1: It's modernized Rex Ryan stuff. Yes, that's that's the way
- 42:29Speaker 1: to look at it. It's not as psycho aggressive as
- 42:31Speaker 1: Rex Ryan. And actually, Bills fans, you guys got Rex
- 42:33Speaker 1: Ryan when he was kind of PG thirteen. Yeah, like
- 42:36Speaker 1: for former R rated Jets Ravens Recks Ryan, that stuff
- 42:40Speaker 1: was nuts. Leonard's got a little bit of that in him,
- 42:43Speaker 1: but he's kind of like he's molded it to modern football.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Like he those Wisconsin defenses were the best defenses in
- 42:49Speaker 1: the country. They were also much and he was with
- 42:52Speaker 1: every place.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Yes, yes, what he was doing with on a base
- 42:56Speaker 2: with the linebackers and like and based out of the
- 42:58Speaker 2: odd front and that type front structure, and then Big
- 43:00Speaker 2: going to Nickel and it was more of like two
- 43:02Speaker 2: four five. But what he was doing with everybody like
- 43:05Speaker 2: sam Borne and Chanall and van Gingkole and her Big
- 43:09Speaker 2: and Benton and it was just so cool. Granted you
- 43:11Speaker 2: have to have the body types, but being their sub
- 43:14Speaker 2: and be in like those guys were five star recruits
- 43:18Speaker 2: and he didn't have the dudes on the back end necessarily.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Everybody was playing match coverages and they were sound there.
- 43:23Speaker 2: They were attacking up front.
- 43:24Speaker 1: I think the safeties are a better fit for Leonard
- 43:26Speaker 1: than McDermott that have on the roster, Like Cold Bishop
- 43:29Speaker 1: is so much a better fit for Leonard than than McDermott.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Especially they're going to play more single high like anticipated.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Let Cold Bishop be the down safety and.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Robert exactly that's what he was at Utah.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Yes, and two monster men at Utah were just two
- 43:43Speaker 2: like big Nickel Apex off ball safety's man, some tight
- 43:47Speaker 2: ends Josh Blitz and Shoot Gaps attacked the b all
- 43:51Speaker 2: of it.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like, I'm it's weird because like if you
- 43:54Speaker 1: asked me a month or two ago, I've been like,
- 43:55Speaker 1: Mann that Bill's defense is this this now? Like, well,
- 43:57Speaker 1: Jim Leonards some great mouthwash.
- 43:59Speaker 2: That's that's how I feel like it's better.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I know I'm in a Bill show, but seriously,
- 44:05Speaker 1: if no one knows my stuff, I've just been talking
- 44:07Speaker 1: about this a ton because I think he's he's great,
- 44:10Speaker 1: and he's got just a great mind, like just for football,
- 44:12Speaker 1: and just also a great personality, like very confident in
- 44:15Speaker 1: himself and and and but not in an obnoxious way
- 44:18Speaker 1: and just very like he knows what he's doing. So yeah,
- 44:21Speaker 1: that that gives me more optimism about anything that they
- 44:23Speaker 1: do on that side, Like every move they make them
- 44:26Speaker 1: like woh you know, like oh that's cool, yeah I
- 44:29Speaker 1: know so yeah but anyways, sorry, let me devolve to that.
- 44:32Speaker 2: But you're good.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Yeah, back to the tight ends.
- 44:34Speaker 2: I will never be upset about anyone who wants to
- 44:36Speaker 2: talk more about Jim Leonard because I've got tweets of
- 44:40Speaker 2: wanting him since like twenty twenty two and twenty twenty
- 44:42Speaker 2: three for the films. I just loved what he did
- 44:43Speaker 2: at Wisconsin so much.
- 44:44Speaker 1: It's it translates now, it's better now. That was even
- 44:47Speaker 1: if he five years ago.
- 44:48Speaker 2: He was at the forefront of it then and it
- 44:50Speaker 2: was like, look what he's doing, and now it's like
- 44:52Speaker 2: you need to play that way. Yeah, he's right there,
- 44:55Speaker 2: like he's at the pinnacle of it. He is the
- 44:57Speaker 2: pinnacle of it when he was a player.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I mean, I know, you play for the Bills, but
- 45:00Speaker 1: when he was a player, that's who Rex Ryan made
- 45:02Speaker 1: sure he got. Was I want to bring Jim Leonard
- 45:04Speaker 1: in because he shored everything up as a player and
- 45:07Speaker 1: on top of it just as a coach. It's it's
- 45:09Speaker 1: just cool.
- 45:09Speaker 2: It's like that two thousand Yes, and that two thousand
- 45:13Speaker 2: and eight Ravens with the safety combo is Ed Reid
- 45:15Speaker 2: and Jim Leonard. The smarts of Jim Leonard and then
- 45:18Speaker 2: Ed Reid being Ed Reid, and.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Then it was just a very smart too, Yeah, smart
- 45:24Speaker 5: and like the smart and wild, and then Leonard was
- 45:28Speaker 5: smart and sound like Leonards shored up a lot for
- 45:30Speaker 5: Ed to do whatever.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I know, I'm yeah, I'm very optimistic about all that.
- 45:37Speaker 1: But yeah, and again talking about he would tee off
- 45:41Speaker 1: when he was at Wisconsin, him and I talked one
- 45:42Speaker 1: time and how I think they were playing Notre Dame
- 45:45Speaker 1: and they that was when Kyle Williams was that Notre
- 45:48Speaker 1: Dame and Kyle Williams was just a beast awesome of protection,
- 45:51Speaker 1: just the best player on Notre Dame. And what they
- 45:54Speaker 1: did I want to say, I will almost say every
- 45:56Speaker 1: single passing down was they ran you know, a creeper
- 45:59Speaker 1: where they everybody does it now where they blitz the
- 46:01Speaker 1: mic and then they drop the edges. So essentially you're
- 46:03Speaker 1: only rushing for but Nora Dames. Passing game rules, protection rules.
- 46:07Speaker 1: It occupied Karen Williams every single time. So he just
- 46:09Speaker 1: did it. He goes, I'm not trying to win the blitz.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I just don't want Karen Williams to get out on routes. Yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 1: Like I know that sounds simple, but not every coach
- 46:18Speaker 1: does that, and.
- 46:20Speaker 2: And that's part of what I love for him. Like him.
- 46:23Speaker 2: He's he's attacking formation, which is a Rex Ryan thing.
- 46:26Speaker 2: The whole blitz the formation thing from back in the day.
- 46:28Speaker 2: But he's attacking your alignments, where the tight end is,
- 46:31Speaker 2: where the back is. We're going away from the back too.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Like I love how matchup focus he is to be like, hey,
- 46:37Speaker 2: we know you do this good thing. You're a good
- 46:39Speaker 2: like right handed haymaker. Cool, We're gonna put that behind
- 46:42Speaker 2: your back. We're going to attack this thing. And yeah,
- 46:44Speaker 2: I just love sorry, continue, I just get so. I
- 46:47Speaker 2: love that aspect and how it ties him to the
- 46:49Speaker 2: Rex piece, because that's that's my treat, Like, that's what
- 46:51Speaker 2: I love as a little kid, like the Rex Ryan
- 46:53Speaker 2: and dick lebou Attack minded defenses are what shaped me
- 46:56Speaker 2: as a football fan. And then so Leonard like carrying
- 46:58Speaker 2: some of it forward. Absolutely right.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm pretty excited about.
- 47:03Speaker 2: That one last thing and then we'll go. I just
- 47:05Speaker 2: wanted to get you to talk about the next frontier
- 47:08Speaker 2: for you. You've talked about defenses kind of having the
- 47:10Speaker 2: advantages in the kind of the swing and the pendulum
- 47:15Speaker 2: back in their favor. And it's not from the whole
- 47:16Speaker 2: too high structure thing. It's defenses have an advantage in
- 47:19Speaker 2: the protection world and protection rules for offenses are kind
- 47:22Speaker 2: of busted, really exemplified in the Super Bowl between the
- 47:25Speaker 2: Pats and the Seahawks and defenses having that advantage on
- 47:28Speaker 2: passing downs because they're breaking protection rules. Just talk about
- 47:31Speaker 2: what current NFL offenses can do to combat that and
- 47:34Speaker 2: kind of swing the pendulum back in their favor.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say if you want a Bill's example
- 47:38Speaker 1: too of maybe the negative side of this is the
- 47:40Speaker 1: Bills Falcons game. I thought the Falcons abused the protection rules.
- 47:44Speaker 1: And I always think the Bills have on the Cromer
- 47:47Speaker 1: had pretty good stuff. They're very sound, it's very just
- 47:49Speaker 1: kind of traditional NFL rules, and I always thought they
- 47:52Speaker 1: were pretty good. But that Falcons game, they abused them.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Because we talked about how much they like to get
- 47:57Speaker 1: James cookout and routes, and the Falcons are like, we
- 47:59Speaker 1: know that, and we're gonna like, we know you're gonna
- 48:01Speaker 1: be in five man protection and we're gonna get a
- 48:03Speaker 1: guy running free every single time. And again talking about
- 48:05Speaker 1: how intelligent everybody is, all these coaches, what Rex Ryan
- 48:09Speaker 1: got bringing Rex Ryan again, what Rex Ran used to
- 48:11Speaker 1: do in two thousand and nine, you know in the
- 48:13Speaker 1: wad Ots was like he was the only one doing it.
- 48:15Speaker 1: It would be like, all right, Rex dick Lebau doing
- 48:18Speaker 1: his stuff, the Ravens doing their stuff. Okay, then a
- 48:21Speaker 1: bunch of cover two teams yep. Now all those like
- 48:24Speaker 1: if it's good, it's gonna spread. And so now every
- 48:28Speaker 1: team's got funk upsurd down, every funk on fourth down,
- 48:32Speaker 1: every like creepers and simulated and all this kind of stuff.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Now that like now we see is that protections. You know,
- 48:40Speaker 1: there's still good pass protection teams and there's stuff that
- 48:42Speaker 1: still sound, but defenses kind of just know, Okay, this
- 48:45Speaker 1: is the weakness of it. We're gonna like do this
- 48:47Speaker 1: right on this third down. I think the Super Bowl
- 48:48Speaker 1: is the best example of that. Was Doug Marone, who
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm not very high on as a line coach. I
- 48:53Speaker 1: think is very average and very archaic. The Patriot's offense
- 48:57Speaker 1: is very archaic. It's sound, but our case, it's like
- 49:01Speaker 1: they need them, they need a little modern, modern, modern
- 49:04Speaker 1: stuff in there. His stuff just kind of got busted
- 49:07Speaker 1: broken every single time. Because Mike MacDonald's so astute of
- 49:09Speaker 1: what to do well. I will see teams like the
- 49:12Speaker 1: Rams and the Bears. They're probably my two best examples
- 49:14Speaker 1: for this Jags maybe a little bit too, which is
- 49:16Speaker 1: a RAMS offshoot, is that they know how to vary
- 49:21Speaker 1: up the protection so they're not just doing a half
- 49:22Speaker 1: slide every single time. They're doing every variation of play
- 49:26Speaker 1: action that you can think of under the sidn because
- 49:28Speaker 1: you're changing attack angles on the defense and you're changing
- 49:31Speaker 1: where the protection's going and working. If you're just doing
- 49:34Speaker 1: drop back half slide. So traditional six man slide is
- 49:37Speaker 1: one side of that offensive line slides to a point,
- 49:39Speaker 1: the other two guys are man block and the running
- 49:41Speaker 1: back works with that side. Then there's offshoots off of that.
- 49:44Speaker 1: If you do that, everybody runs out. That's the most
- 49:46Speaker 1: basic pass protection you can do. But if you can
- 49:48Speaker 1: vary it up, we're gonna full slide this time, we're
- 49:50Speaker 1: gonna do a flash fake. We're gonna motion the tight
- 49:52Speaker 1: end across to help out on a full slide motion
- 49:55Speaker 1: to have him chip on the opposite side, and you
- 49:58Speaker 1: just don't let the defense is tee off. If you
- 50:00Speaker 1: just sit and get static, defenses are just gonna go
- 50:02Speaker 1: licking their chops. Yeah, because then like might again, you
- 50:05Speaker 1: might get once, but they're gonna just like those edges
- 50:08Speaker 1: are gonna just start getting They're gonna start cranking up,
- 50:10Speaker 1: reving it up. They know they don't have to worry
- 50:13Speaker 1: about any action in front of them. Then you watch
- 50:15Speaker 1: the rams and it's like, Okay, here comes a tight
- 50:17Speaker 1: end coming across. Here comes a running back, come across.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Here comes a receiver coming across. Here comes a guy
- 50:21Speaker 1: pulling on the protection. Here they just run everything, And
- 50:23Speaker 1: that's good because it's like having a picture with a
- 50:25Speaker 1: bunch of pitches. Now I can't tee off on the
- 50:27Speaker 1: one thing because again, defenses are so good. So it's
- 50:30Speaker 1: not so in the sense of like something new has
- 50:32Speaker 1: to be invented. It's just that I think teams could
- 50:35Speaker 1: really behoove themselves by studying and also just being more
- 50:39Speaker 1: comfortable running some kind of offshoot kind of protections or
- 50:42Speaker 1: more kind of the secondary protections they usually usually you
- 50:45Speaker 1: only run maybe once every couple of weeks, running it
- 50:48Speaker 1: more about three or four times a game to just
- 50:49Speaker 1: help themselves out. So that's where I see team. I
- 50:52Speaker 1: think the smart teams will be doing that stuff this
- 50:54Speaker 1: offseason because I think everyone's realizing that right.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Now, beautiful love that I'm gonna save my thoughts on
- 50:59Speaker 2: that for once you leave, so I get you out
- 51:01Speaker 2: on time before he kept your comments after, I'm sorry.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Tell everybody in case they don't know who you are,
- 51:04Speaker 2: what you do, your platforms, the floor is yours, and
- 51:07Speaker 2: then feel free to leave.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Yeah, check my stuff out Yahoo. And also I got
- 51:11Speaker 1: Football three to one. That's the main squeeze. That's a
- 51:13Speaker 1: podcast I do with Matt Harmon and Charles McDonald. Also
- 51:16Speaker 1: got a big board coming out. I think tomorrow it'll
- 51:19Speaker 1: be posted, but yeah, check that out on Yahoo. Will
- 51:22Speaker 1: have a top fifty coming out. So yeah, that's that's
- 51:25Speaker 1: all the good stuff. So thanks dud.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate holiday. I'll text you after to sing
- 51:29Speaker 2: your praises, but yeah, go do your thing. I've kept
- 51:31Speaker 2: you too long. Thanks Nate.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I appreciate he awesome. Have a good one.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Lay mister Nate Tice Pump to get him on the show.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Pumps you have him. He was the reason why we
- 51:41Speaker 2: pivoted this week, just with him being a West Coast
- 51:44Speaker 2: guy and what his schedule was, so we weren't able
- 51:46Speaker 2: to align on our normal slot for this week Tuesday nights,
- 51:49Speaker 2: nine pm Eastern, so we pivoted a bit. We're gonna
- 51:51Speaker 2: record offline and then with the DJ more news, I
- 51:56Speaker 2: was like, hey, cool if we go live and he
- 51:57Speaker 2: was like absolutely, and so we went there. I want
- 51:59Speaker 2: to make my way back because I want to grab
- 52:01Speaker 2: some super chats from everyone. I noticed three throughout the episode.
- 52:05Speaker 2: I didn't want to take up too much of night time,
- 52:07Speaker 2: but I want to come back. Carl, thank you for
- 52:09Speaker 2: being here, Thank you for the super chat. Carl says,
- 52:11Speaker 2: the deal on the table at the deadline was waddle
- 52:14Speaker 2: for a first round pick. We got more plus a
- 52:17Speaker 2: fifth for a low second round pick, A good talented
- 52:20Speaker 2: receiver for less. I think it's a fair way to
- 52:23Speaker 2: look at it. And again, as Nate and I talked about,
- 52:26Speaker 2: I like DJ Moore in a vacuum, right, I should
- 52:28Speaker 2: say I think he's fine in a vacuum, right. I
- 52:30Speaker 2: think his skill set is a nice additive to this
- 52:33Speaker 2: bill's wide receiver room. You get some stretch horizontally, you
- 52:37Speaker 2: get some stretched vertically, you get some athleticism. Again, I
- 52:39Speaker 2: talked about it, he's not gonna win with precision and
- 52:44Speaker 2: route running and route guys up and deception and all man,
- 52:47Speaker 2: look at his stem and look at his footwork. He's
- 52:49Speaker 2: gonna win with athleticism and speed. You know, he's more
- 52:51Speaker 2: of a guy. Hey we're gonna sit again, stretch the field.
- 52:53Speaker 2: Let's send him on a deep crosser, on a deep post,
- 52:56Speaker 2: those vertical stem routes. Let's have you push vertical, put
- 52:59Speaker 2: your foot in the ground and back around a deep
- 53:01Speaker 2: hook or a deep stop route type of deal. Or
- 53:03Speaker 2: let's have you run on a drag, let's run mesh.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Let's put you in the backfield and have you run
- 53:06Speaker 2: the rail route and go up the sideline. But he's
- 53:09Speaker 2: got athleticism, he's got some juice to him, he's got
- 53:11Speaker 2: some pop. I mean, if we're looking at Wattle versus
- 53:14Speaker 2: More again, even if it was if it's if it's
- 53:18Speaker 2: that deal, I personally would rather have Wattle for a
- 53:22Speaker 2: first than I would More and a fifth for a second.
- 53:25Speaker 2: But I don't think that's Again, that's in a vacuum.
- 53:28Speaker 2: And then the contract situation factors and things as well.
- 53:31Speaker 2: But I don't think Moore is a bad player. I
- 53:33Speaker 2: think he's a fine player and a useful one for
- 53:36Speaker 2: what the Bills need and where they are right now. Now, again,
- 53:40Speaker 2: the cost from a contract standpoint, in the second round
- 53:42Speaker 2: pick that can be debated in a lot of other
- 53:45Speaker 2: forms of fashions, and I get that part. It's me
- 53:47Speaker 2: it's messy and it's muddy almost aid METI, which kind
- 53:50Speaker 2: of works. But yeah, I would have done Wattle for
- 53:52Speaker 2: a first as opposed to this deal. But again, I
- 53:54Speaker 2: don't think More is a bad player, and I do
- 53:56Speaker 2: think he works. Jason, appreciate you being here and thank
- 53:59Speaker 2: you very much with the significant super chet that's awesome,
- 54:01Speaker 2: Jason says, I think people are more upset with the
- 54:03Speaker 2: fact that it wasn't the wide receiver that everyone wanted.
- 54:06Speaker 2: He does add value to the wide receiver room and
- 54:08Speaker 2: a very solid skill set a wide receiver via a
- 54:11Speaker 2: trade or free agency, there was going to be a
- 54:14Speaker 2: considerable cost. Yeah, we'll kind of see what kicks around.
- 54:17Speaker 2: You know, what does aj Brown end up getting traded for?
- 54:19Speaker 2: If he does get traded, what does Alec Pierce end
- 54:22Speaker 2: up signing for? You know, I mentioned it with Nate
- 54:24Speaker 2: during the episode, like, I think a lot of people
- 54:26Speaker 2: will come around to this deal and be like, hey,
- 54:28Speaker 2: you know, at the end of the day, DJ Moore
- 54:30Speaker 2: is an upgrade in the wide receiver room and a
- 54:32Speaker 2: useful player. But if Alec Pierce signs for essentially the
- 54:37Speaker 2: contract that the Bills are paying DJ Moore for. I
- 54:40Speaker 2: think that changes the literal and figurative math a little
- 54:43Speaker 2: bit for how people see to see the deal. And Yeah,
- 54:46Speaker 2: and I do agree like that, if the team makes
- 54:50Speaker 2: if any team makes a move and it's not for
- 54:51Speaker 2: the exact guy everybody wanted, I think there's natural consternation
- 54:55Speaker 2: and frustration for people. But I do think I do
- 54:58Speaker 2: agree with you, Jason. Like I said, he does add
- 55:00Speaker 2: to the wide receiver room and he has a very
- 55:01Speaker 2: solid skill set and a useful one for the Bills.
- 55:04Speaker 2: We'll see how Joe Brady employs him. He did have
- 55:06Speaker 2: a good year with Brady when he was in Carolina,
- 55:07Speaker 2: but then again so to Kurti Samuel. Samuel had his
- 55:09Speaker 2: best season ever with Brady and Carolina, and that didn't
- 55:11Speaker 2: materialize as well. Jason, another super Chat, thank you for
- 55:15Speaker 2: again being here for the super Chat. Jason says Bean
- 55:18Speaker 2: will do some of his restructuring magic that will reduce
- 55:20Speaker 2: his cap hit in twenty twenty six potentially beyond. Yeah,
- 55:24Speaker 2: I have already seen some like numbers and rumors of
- 55:26Speaker 2: like what he's going to do to knock down the
- 55:27Speaker 2: cap hit this year and potentially next year. So I
- 55:29Speaker 2: do agree. I think that will happen. And then Jason says,
- 55:31Speaker 2: the Alec Pierce contract buyer beware. Yeah, I know you
- 55:34Speaker 2: put this out around when Nate and I were talking
- 55:36Speaker 2: about the Alec Pears piece. Nate likes Alec Pierce. I
- 55:39Speaker 2: really like Ali Pierce, Like a lot of people like him.
- 55:41Speaker 2: I like him a lot coming out of Cincinnati a
- 55:43Speaker 2: couple of years ago. He is going to get paid
- 55:47Speaker 2: significantly and again, still a good player, right. You add
- 55:51Speaker 2: him to your team and it's still fun to have
- 55:52Speaker 2: Alec Pierce, But do you want Alec Peerson? How comfortable
- 55:56Speaker 2: are you at it with al Piers at twenty five
- 55:57Speaker 2: million dollars a year? As Nate said, he's seen maybe
- 55:59Speaker 2: some rejections of him getting like twenty seven million dollars
- 56:02Speaker 2: a year. That's a steep price. But I do think
- 56:04Speaker 2: the closer the Pierce deal comes to the DJ Moore deal,
- 56:07Speaker 2: the more frustration there will be for Bills fans kind
- 56:11Speaker 2: of across the board in that regard. But we'll see
- 56:14Speaker 2: what happens there. Want to grab some more comments here,
- 56:18Speaker 2: Matt In the comments, I see us as a terrible
- 56:21Speaker 2: effing trade. Yeah, I get the notion of the DJ
- 56:27Speaker 2: Moore trade and kind of again, I think the cost
- 56:29Speaker 2: is what makes it more frustrating than if it was
- 56:32Speaker 2: just like all the Bills got DJ Moore. If you're
- 56:34Speaker 2: just looking at it from a player on the field standpoint,
- 56:36Speaker 2: I do think he adds value to the wide receiver room.
- 56:38Speaker 2: But again, if you're looking at the overall quote unquote
- 56:40Speaker 2: value knowing what his contract is, knowing what the cap
- 56:43Speaker 2: hits look like, how much they have to pay him,
- 56:45Speaker 2: and then a second round pick, I get where that's
- 56:47Speaker 2: a bit steep. But again you'll play Devil's advocate and say,
- 56:50Speaker 2: who's going to be a better wide receiver this year
- 56:52Speaker 2: for the Bills, DJ Moore or whatever wide receiver they
- 56:55Speaker 2: would have gotten in year two. And I think that's
- 56:57Speaker 2: a fair argument. Again, I think it's fair to look
- 56:58Speaker 2: at it at either side. He for me, wasn't a
- 57:01Speaker 2: top trade target or anything. For me, I would have
- 57:04Speaker 2: rather committed this money in a second round pick to
- 57:06Speaker 2: Jonathan Grenard from the Minnesota Vikings, not a receiver but
- 57:09Speaker 2: a really good edge player. I would have taken that,
- 57:14Speaker 2: but not what the Bills did. And again I still
- 57:17Speaker 2: think he adds value and adds usefulness. But I do
- 57:20Speaker 2: agree the second round pick and the contract, and then
- 57:23Speaker 2: we'll see what guys get on the open market can
- 57:26Speaker 2: make it a little less palatable or significantly less pawable,
- 57:30Speaker 2: depending on how you're looking at it. Oh, Derek says,
- 57:33Speaker 2: I know you're a defense guru. Appreciate that. Who's your
- 57:36Speaker 2: guy now in the first round since it probably won't
- 57:38Speaker 2: be wide receiver? Oh, I'm making my way through, make
- 57:44Speaker 2: him my way downtown. I'm making my way through safeties
- 57:46Speaker 2: and wide receivers now as I've gone through. I don't
- 57:49Speaker 2: really have a safety in round one. I'm not as
- 57:51Speaker 2: high on Peneman as a lot of other people are.
- 57:53Speaker 2: I wouldn't hate him being the pick at twenty six,
- 57:55Speaker 2: but I'm a little iffy on that. I'd rather go
- 57:57Speaker 2: with a I'd rather hope that the free agency s
- 58:00Speaker 2: market goes down because of all the depth of safety
- 58:02Speaker 2: in this draft class. I'd rather spend money on Jalen
- 58:04Speaker 2: Thompson or Kobe Bryant at safety. But for me, I'm
- 58:07Speaker 2: I'm probably thinking edge rusher or somebody on that defensive line,
- 58:12Speaker 2: depending on what they add in free agency. I'm either
- 58:14Speaker 2: thinking you're adding a nose or you're adding an edge rusher.
- 58:18Speaker 2: I haven't fully scouted either of those positions, so I
- 58:20Speaker 2: can't give you a full name right now. I've seen
- 58:21Speaker 2: people float around like, oh, you know, maybe Lee Hunter
- 58:24Speaker 2: at that spot or Cashus Howell the edge from Texas
- 58:27Speaker 2: A and M. Again, I haven't fully evaluated these positions,
- 58:30Speaker 2: but I would sit there and think as of right now,
- 58:34Speaker 2: just how it's how it's looking, and what the Bills
- 58:36Speaker 2: are from a team perspective. I don't think there's going
- 58:39Speaker 2: to be a safety worth taking at twenty six, and
- 58:43Speaker 2: I think the pick will either be edge or defensive tackle,
- 58:47Speaker 2: outside chance at interior offensive line, depending on what the
- 58:53Speaker 2: Bills do with McGovern and or Edwards. I also think
- 58:55Speaker 2: what's an interesting option, Maybe the Bills trade back and
- 58:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't like Nate said, and something that I'm in
- 59:02Speaker 2: full agreement with. I think the value in this draft
- 59:04Speaker 2: is like picks twenty five through fifty or like you know,
- 59:07Speaker 2: thirty through sixty, thirty through sixty five, something like that.
- 59:09Speaker 2: And now that the Bills don't have a second, maybe
- 59:12Speaker 2: they trade first with somebody and try and get an
- 59:15Speaker 2: extra third or a second somehow and move back. I
- 59:18Speaker 2: wouldn't hate that either, But right now, I put my
- 59:21Speaker 2: money on defensive something on the defensive line, edge, interior
- 59:26Speaker 2: defensive lineman, somebody who can play defensive tackle, stand up edge,
- 59:29Speaker 2: four eye multiplicity on the interior hybridization. I would kind
- 59:34Speaker 2: of see it somewhere in that regard on the defensive
- 59:36Speaker 2: line and an outside chance of the offensive line. Claude
- 59:43Speaker 2: says Dj Moore, the town is worth the second round pick.
- 59:45Speaker 2: The Bills just weren't in a position to give it up.
- 59:47Speaker 2: My only problem with DJ Moore is that he cuts
- 59:50Speaker 2: some route short or gives up on some routes. Yeah,
- 59:52Speaker 2: and as Nate talked about, you know, the twenty twenty
- 59:54Speaker 2: four season, the essentially kind of quit on the Bears,
- 59:57Speaker 2: which is not great anytime you get that. And I
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: do think there are times where, like I'm watching DJ
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Moore and I'm thinking, is he tired or is he
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: just not trying right now in his route? And that
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: kind of stuff always worries me to have to ask
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: that question. And I think that's a fair question to ask,
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: and it's one that's probably going to resurface regularly. Knowing
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: what his twenty twenty four season was and kind of
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: maybe that rep that he's going to carry with him.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: But you know, we'll see Jason his aunt. I think
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: we're still trying to make another wide receiver move trade
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: or free agency or will that move to the draft.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: I think it would end up being the draft. I
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: think they'll take a wide receiver round four or round three.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: I'm still putting my hopes on Brendan Thompson, the absolute
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: flyer from Mississippi State. I would love to get him
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: in the fourth round. I think there's a chance he
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: climbs up into the third because of this. That's the
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: speed that he has, and he's a little more than
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: just a pure speed guy, so I think he could
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: creep up into round three. But I'd love to get
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Brentan Thompson, wide receiver from Misissippi State in round four.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: But I do think I don't think they're done at
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: wide receiver. I don't know if that means another movie
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: a free agency and if it's a top of the
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: depth chart guy or if it's a middle guy or
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: bottom guy. I think it would be hard for them
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: to commit significant financial capital to two receivers, knowing everything
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: they have to do on the offensive line and defense
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: as a whole, but I do think there will be
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: another move a wide receiver. My money is on the
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: draft right now. Low says, I feel like we need
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: to prepare ourselves for a boring Thursday as Buffalo trades
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: back to take advantage of the depth of the class
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: or recoup that second plus. I do think that's on
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: the table significantly, whether it's trading back to get a
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: third like I said, or trading back and trying to
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: get somebody's two. I do think that one is on
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: the table. Adrian's saying we need an edge linebacker, a
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: true nose. I completely agree, completely agree, completely agree, completely
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: agree Nicholas, what's up? Nicholas says what the Bill's keeping
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: key on. Also like the more acquisition because of how
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: much better I think it'll make Coleman considering how much
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: more efficient he was in Michigan State with a dynamic
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: receiver in Jaden Reid. Oh fair, come, yeah, that's fair.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: And yeah. Like Nate said, I think the acquisition to
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: DJ Moore just bumps everyone down a peg. Now you've
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: got DJ Moore at the top of your wide receiver
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: depth chart, You've got Dalton Kincaid, who I still think
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: is your primary or premier pass catcher, but again, health
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: and all the other stuff that muddies the picture for
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: him is a thing in and of itself. But now
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: it's like more Kincaid, Shakir and Palmer and Keon. Like
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Keon gets bumped down, he can still marinate a little
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: bit more and play more of a specific or niche
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: type of role, which I still think is what he
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: needs to be. It just bumps everybody down a little
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: bit in a good way. And again, depending on what
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: happens at wide receiver in the draft or maybe again
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: in free agency, we'll see, we'll see, we'll see. Common
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: here is I'd rather pay Mike Evans and a Day
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: two wide receiver draft pick. I think that's fair. So
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: he says, could we still sign Mike Evans? I doubt it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: I think Mike Evans is going to at like twenty
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: million per year. You could, and that would be interesting
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: because then Evans gives you, like I think Evans gets
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: is a better separator than he gets credit for. Although
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: he's known for like the length and the ball winning,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: but he's someone who can work downfield, he can work
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: the intermediate the experience. He'll give you some bad drops
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: from time to time, But I think Evans can still
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: be a low end one or at the very least
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: a high end two. And if you had him at
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: DJ Moore at the top of your depth chart, I
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: think that's a really interesting premise. I just think he's
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: gonna be what you're with, what you're paying DJ Moore to,
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: then pay that to Mike Evans knowing what you need
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: on the defensive line, across the board, what you need
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: at linebacker, what you need offensive line, and what you
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: needed safety. Could it happen? Sure? Will it happen. I
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: just don't think so, because it would really put him
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: in a hole for everything else. But it could happen.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: Danny says DJ Moore doesn't move the needle and he's overpaid.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: I'm guessing that's what you think. Are you think saying
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: that about someone else? Yeah? I think I think DJ
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Moore is a good addition. I don't think he's a
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I wanted more of a true bucket getter or needle
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: over at wide receiver. I don't think he's a bucket
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: getter or a I'm gonna talk out of both sides
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: of my mouth. I guess. I don't think he's a
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: bucket geitter or a move the needle guy, but I
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: do think he is a useful addition to this wide
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: receiver room that helps open things up. M ooh Richard
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: saying kid McDonald would be nice. Yeah, yeah, yah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: yea yeah yeah. I mean I was in on Tiler
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Williams this year, so it's understanable that I would, or
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: last year I would, so it's understandable that i'd be
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: in on Kate McDonald this year. I appreciate you, Claude,
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Claude saying at you said it exactly right. I've also
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: wondered if he's tired, or he's hurt or just loping. Yeah,
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: And I hate having asked those questions, right, like is
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: this dude gassed? Is he banged up? Is does he
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: have a pole Hammi r quad or something we don't
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: know about? Or he roll his ankle do something? Or yeah,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: does he just not care? Bill's fan saying I absolutely
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: hate the trade with the Bills having so many different
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: needs considering may need to replace two offensive linemen. Yeah,
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: I do think again, I'm fine with him as a player.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: The contract I think is where it gets muddy, right,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: you knowing what you're committing to DJ Moore from a
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: financial perspective and from a cap hit perspective, that's what
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: comes it up, right, like you're paying for that guy.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: And again, that was gonna happen if they if they
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: paid Romeo Dobbs, if they paid Mike Evans, if they
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: paid Alec Pierce. Now you could sit there and say, well,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: I like all of those players better than DJ Moore,
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: and that's fine, But yeah, they were gonna run into
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: this regardless of who they paid at wide receiver or
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: if they made that kind of splash money somewhere. And
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I do think that is splash money considering how strapped
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: they are. But also, you know, maybe they don't need
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: to go to the market to replace two offensive line
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: and maybe they're confident and comfortable with Cedric Van pray
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Grainger rocking at center and Alec Anderson rocking at guard
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: or Anderson rocking at center, and they sign a guard
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: somewhere else right, or draft one, So they may think
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: they have the answer in house already and they don't
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: need to spend money on the offensive line, and that's
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: why they made this type of splash but we'll see.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Sowin says, what do you think about to Mario Davis
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: or Bobby Wagner, They're old but still very good Bobby
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Wagner know. For me, to Mario Davis, I still like.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: I just don't think either were a fit right now
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: for the bill because I think you need more skill
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: set versatility at the linebacker spot. If they didn't have
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: to roll Bernard, I'd be more open to Mario Davis,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: even though he's a hammer coming forward, but I'd like
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: the inside linebacker opposite of Bernard in the odd front
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: looks to be capable of also playing as the end
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: man on the line of scrimmage against the run and
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: as a pass rusher in the odd front five down stuff,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: but also in their four down even front sub package stuff.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: That's why again I'm looking at Cad Nell as I'm
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: looking at Leo Shanal, guys that can play an inside
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: linebacker spot next to Bernard but could also drop down
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: as the end man on the line of scrimmage, rush
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: the quarterback, or play the run. And I think you
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: need more hybridization in the linebacker spot, and so I'd
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: rather put money into one of those baskets or a
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: player like that, but specifically Caid Nelis or Leoshanal or
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: somebody with that type of hybridization built into their game
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: at linebacker. Speaking of hybridization, just kidding. The best pizza
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: in Buffalo, New York One Pie Pizza. I mentioned it
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: in the intro. I mentioned it now. I don't say
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: that they're the best pizza in Buffalo because they sponsor
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: the show. They sponsor the show because I do sincerely
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: believe they are the best pizza in Buffalo, New York.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Sweet sauce, pie cup and char Pepperoni, a variety of
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: unique pizzas, including the cover one Josh Allen Goat, which
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: is absolutely phenomenal. And again I don't just say that
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: because it's named after the show, and also Breakfast Pizza.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: They just they really do make the best pizza, whether
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: it's your standard pepperoni pie or it's something unique, whatever
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: topics you want to do, however you want it, they
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: nail everything perfectly. If you get a bunch of veggies,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: they'll chop them up, eating sprinklingly evenly across the pie.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: They have a catering division called Elevated Catering, a Buffalo
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: and I've had them do multiple events for me over
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: the past several years. You get the pizza, or you
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: can rock with like one of their main like chicken
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: and rice dishes or their homemade mac and cheese. They
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: make really good salads. Everything that they make just absolutely hits.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: The homemade blue cheese is immaculate. Sometimes I don't know
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: if I like the pizza more or the blue cheese more,
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: but their food is absolutely tremendous. Really good people. On
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: top of it, everything they do for the city, for
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: the community at large, partnering with Roswell, partnering with the SPCA,
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: the Alzheimer's Foundation, Toys for Tots, they do a lot
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: to try and give back to the community and the city,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: and I think that's awesome. And they do that on
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: top of bringing your taste buds absolute joy every time
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: you take a bite of their food. So get yourself
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: some one Pied pizza. If you want to celebrate the

- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Going to the comics. We've got another super chat. Thank
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: you very much Jason for the super chat. Jason says,
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: I just think the more trade gives us a legit,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: big play down the field receiver. His skill set will
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: unlock a healthy Kincaid or even Shakir. I do think so. Again,
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: this kind of playing both sides, right, I do think
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: his speed gives you legitimate field stretching vertically and horizontally. Right.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: My only issue is is he going to be committed
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: to always do that, especially if he's not going to
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: get the ball. And again we've had questions on tape
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: like is he loafing or is he hurt? You know,
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: is there something going on? Does he not care? Is
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: he tired of? What is it? And then we know
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, again, as Nate talked about earlier,
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: he essentially kind of quit on the Bears. So is
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: he going to be down to be like Hey, we
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: want you to run the vertical route on dagger because
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: we want you to pull coverage so Shakir can come
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: in behind you on the dig or whoever can come
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: in behind you on the dig. Is he down to
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: play that selfless role if he's not going to get
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: the ball right, if Allen doesn't want to push it
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: downfield to him, cool, Is he fine continuing to pull
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: coverage and create space for secure underneath, for Kincaid underneath.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I do think he gives you more athleticism, a kind
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: of ball win downfield, even though he's not a ball winner.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: But he's got real juice, real athleticism, real explosion. He
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: can go up, he can get it and make a
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: play on the ball, even though he's a smaller type
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: of receiver. So I do think he gives you an
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: opportunity to make some plays down the field and or
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: pull coverage and stretch the field for the offense. Good come,
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Adrian says, How do I know Moore is not another
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Josh Palmer? You don't until you see him play. I
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: will say stylistically, they're just two very different players. Josh
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Palmer is more precision route running, stem work, deception, separating
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: in the underneath and the intermediate, with his stem work,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: with his route running, body language precision, all of that,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: DJ Moore is much faster. DJ Moore can still run
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: by some people. Djmore can pull coverage. Djmore can run
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: away from guys. He doesn't have a precision that Palmer has,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: but he's more athletic. He's better with the ball in
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: his hands for yards after catch, and he's got real
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: juice and pop and burst an explosion to his game.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: So I think he's a different kind of receiver one two.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: You know, he could be another Josh Palmer in terms
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: of effectiveness. He could get hurt, he could be a letdown.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: He could be not good enough, he could not care.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: You really don't know until they put the pads on
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: and you know, strap everything on and get after it.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: But I think this will help Palmer because it just
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: knocks him down a little bit. My biggest thing with
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Palmer last year. I still won't have an issue with
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Palmer the player. I just think he's more of a
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: wide receiver three or a wide receiver four. Maybe a
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: guy who can moonlight as a two, depending on your
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: offense and how your wide receiver room is built. But
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: the Bills asked a lot of him by essentially making
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: him like wide receiver one and having to play where
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: he played and how he played. But we'll see, we'll see,
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: we'll see, we'll see. What else?
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: What else?
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: M ah Swin says more probably would have caught the ball,
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: reference to the Brandon Cooks catch. Maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe. Well,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming here. I'm doing a saying a
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: little off subject, but I think Anthony's the missing piece
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: of the rock pile report. The chemistry they have with
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: him is always so fun.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: All.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: I appreciate you checking me out in the show out
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: when I have those appearances. That's awesome. Thank you, That's cool.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna l Drew and Chris about this. Common appreciate you.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: What else? Oh comment here saying I feel like Palmer
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: is going to be very solid this season, assuming he's healthy. Yeah,
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: we will hopefully stays healthy and comming here from Bills
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: fans saying, I just hate losing the draft picks, losing
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: shots for cost control options. That's fair, but you still
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: don't know what a draft pick's going to be. It's
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: still a crapshoot.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: You can have a top five pick and take somebody
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: that you think is going to be a lock and
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: they're not right, let alone somebody in the second round,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: third round, fourth round, so on and so forth. So again,
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I think if if you look at it solely from
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: the perspective of what's going to be better for the
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Bills this year in twenty twenty six, a receiver they
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: could have gotten in the second round or DJ Moore?
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: The answer is DJ Moore. Now, will that's still be
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: the case in twenty twenty seven and beyond? Sorry I'm
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: moving too much, but the camera to focus. Will that's
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: still be the conversation in twenty twenty seven and beyond?
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: I don't know. And again it could end up not
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: being true.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: This year.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: The receiver they could have gotten in the second round
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: could end up being a tremendous rookie and put a
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: performance on that makes everybody go, oh, look at this
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: guy that Bills could have had. They didn't need to
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: trade for DJ Moore. But odds are you bet on
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: the known quantity, the known commodity of the NFL talent,
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: which is DJ Moore. At this point, the draft is
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: still at dart throw or a crapshoot it's a swing
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: at the plate, and that swing at the plate could
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: be a home run, it could be a single, double triple,
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: it could be a walk. It could be a strikeout,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: pop out, ground out, anything and everything in between. But
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: I get where you're coming from. I do understand that
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: notion and that thought process. I'm gonna throw up the banner.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: This is tootle folks. Tootles folks, because we're gonna start
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: to wind down here and say goodbye. If you have
