Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, everybody.
- 0:00Speaker 2: It's Phil Hendry from our Radio Hall of Fame show,
- 0:02Speaker 2: and we have another Radio Archive Hour for you from
- 0:05Speaker 2: November of 2003. This is the first character we ever
- 0:09Speaker 2: did on our show way back in the summer of 1990.
- 0:11Speaker 2: But in this instance, he's with us in America. It's
- 0:15Speaker 2: Raj Phaneen. He's moved his family here. They have a
- 0:19Speaker 2: wholesale clothing business. They're doing very well in the carpet
- 0:22Speaker 2: cleaning business, whatever it is he's doing, along with some
- 0:24Speaker 2: of his relatives. But he is saying one thing. He's
- 0:26Speaker 2: saying the cool thing about being a Middle Easterner now
- 0:29Speaker 2: is When people see me, they back off because who knows,
- 0:32Speaker 2: things may go kaboom. That's what he said. In fact,
- 0:35Speaker 2: he has the same thing that Dr. Jim Sadler has.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He can just look out the window in traffic and
- 0:40Speaker 2: people kind of hit the brakes. Anyway, here he is,
- 0:43Speaker 2: Raj Fadine.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Mr. Fadine, are you there?
- 0:46Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Okay.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but I had a little bit of an
- 0:49Speaker 2: engineering difficulty. Immigrants, you were saying, have had a difficult time.
- 0:53Speaker 1: What, sir?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Well, immigrants have had a difficult time. Fortunately, it's not
- 0:59Speaker 3: that difficult for me.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Now, you're from Egypt originally?
- 1:03Speaker 3: This is correct. Because of where I'm from originally, there
- 1:08Speaker 3: is a reputation that people from the Middle East are
- 1:13Speaker 3: not people that you dismiss as you dismiss the Mexican
- 1:17Speaker 3: or Chinese or.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Immigrants from different parts of the world.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Are you saying that being an immigrant from the Middle East,
- 1:30Speaker 2: people may think twice about harassing you or challenging you?
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yes. I can give you an example.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 1:40Speaker 3: My family and I, I have a wife, a two-year-old son.
- 1:45Speaker 3: My wife is pregnant with another child.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Congratulations.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Thank you. We love to go to this promenade, to
- 1:54Speaker 3: go shopping, to see a movie. We know that when
- 1:58Speaker 3: we go to a restaurant, we know that they are
- 2:01Speaker 3: going to find us a table immediately, even if there
- 2:08Speaker 3: is a line, because they know that to be rude
- 2:11Speaker 3: to a person from the Middle East does not carry
- 2:14Speaker 3: certain risks.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That's an interesting statement, being rude to a person from
- 2:20Speaker 2: the Middle East carries certain risks.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think I know what you mean, but tell me
- 2:24Speaker 1: what you mean.
- 2:25Speaker 3: You see, the people of this country, the people of America,
- 2:30Speaker 3: there's no consequence when you threaten, for instance, a Mexican.
- 2:34Speaker 3: There's no consequence when you threaten the Canada man or
- 2:37Speaker 3: the China man. But in the back of the minds
- 2:41Speaker 3: of America, there's not a consequence when you threaten a
- 2:43Speaker 3: man from the Middle East, a Muslim man. when you
- 2:46Speaker 3: threaten a Muslim man.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Well, I want to ask you, are you saying that
- 2:50Speaker 2: if I were rude to you in public or wherever,
- 2:53Speaker 2: you would consider a.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Violent act against me?
- 2:56Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Is that what you're saying?
- 2:58Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 2:59Speaker 3: If you just shut your mouth, I'm trying to say...
- 3:04Speaker 3: What did you say? Just to shut your mouth for
- 3:07Speaker 3: a moment.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Generally, that's considered a rude statement.
- 3:11Speaker 3: No, the Middle East people who come to America, Americans
- 3:15Speaker 3: now know they cannot be rude to them to get
- 3:19Speaker 3: their kicks, to have fun without consequence. There is no consequence.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yes, but Mr. Fennin.
- 3:27Speaker 3: You know, I was driving on a freeway not long ago,
- 3:30Speaker 3: driving on a freeway, not two weeks ago, there was
- 3:34Speaker 3: this man who was driving. I don't know, he looked
- 3:37Speaker 3: as if he was a very fast car, a sports car, right?
- 3:40Speaker 3: He wanted to come into my lane, and he was
- 3:43Speaker 3: moving through traffic. But when he looked at me, and
- 3:48Speaker 3: he saw that I was a Muslim man, I could
- 3:51Speaker 3: see he put his foot on the brake. He backed away.
- 3:55Speaker 3: And he, you know, eventually got in the lane behind me, where,
- 3:59Speaker 3: in fact, he belonged. But I was excited to know
- 4:02Speaker 3: that this was a smart American, not one who was
- 4:06Speaker 3: out there, you know, asking to try....
- 4:14Speaker 2: Do you take pleasure in making Americans afraid? Because you're
- 4:17Speaker 2: a Middle Eastern. I'll tell you why I ask you that.
- 4:19Speaker 2: If you were to strike the same fear into people, say,
- 4:21Speaker 2: at an airport, you would never get on a plane.
- 4:23Speaker 2: They'd never let you on a plane.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yes, but the other side of this argument is that
- 4:29Speaker 3: would be then is profiling.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Wait a minute.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Because I've not done anything wrong.
- 4:34Speaker 1: No, but wait a minute.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I've not done anything wrong.
- 4:36Speaker 1: But you want to look intimidating. You want to strike fear.
- 4:40Speaker 3: You know you are speaking to me of problems. The U.S. authorities,
- 4:44Speaker 3: I'm not interested in their problems. They cannot profile me.
- 4:48Speaker 3: But of course I am aware. People see me, or
- 4:51Speaker 3: my wife, or my child. They are not so eager
- 4:53Speaker 3: to push us around because we are Middle East.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Okay, hold on for a minute.
- 4:58Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Because I want to bring up something that you talked
- 5:02Speaker 2: to my producer about. We're talking with Raj Faneen. He
- 5:05Speaker 2: is a businessman. What is your business, sir?
- 5:08Speaker 3: We own the clothing business. We have apartments.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You have some real estate?
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yes. Sure, yes. We have the export-import, you know.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Okay, the export-import business?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You told our producers a story off the air that
- 5:31Speaker 2: almost verged on a little bit of bad taste.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I mean, having to do... With your son?
- 5:36Speaker 3: No, it's not that.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Well, did you use your son to make people afraid?
- 5:40Speaker 3: No, no, no. Please shut your mouth. I was with
- 5:43Speaker 3: my wife.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Sir, when you say that you'd like me to be quiet,
- 5:47Speaker 2: that's fine, but to tell me to shut my mouth
- 5:50Speaker 2: is considered rude.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But please let me say, I was with my wife
- 5:54Speaker 3: and my son. We were drinking these snow cones. And
- 6:00Speaker 3: we were playing this game where my son would say, Daddy,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I dare you this, Daddy, I dare you that. I
- 6:04Speaker 3: said to my son, well, I dare you to do this,
- 6:05Speaker 3: I dare you to do that. I said to my son, well,
- 6:08Speaker 3: I dare you to put your backpack on with it
- 6:11Speaker 3: facing front and to go into the store to see
- 6:16Speaker 3: what the man does. Because this is the way it
- 6:18Speaker 3: matters in Palestine, to wear a backpack. And my wife
- 6:22Speaker 3: sat in the car so we could see this, to
- 6:26Speaker 3: have this cold stone creamer.
- 6:29Speaker 5: All right.
- 6:29Speaker 1: You told your son to put a backpack on the
- 6:32Speaker 1: reverse way.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Yes.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Because it looks the way the suicide bombers look in Israel?
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And you did this for fun?
- 6:40Speaker 3: No, no. My son doesn't have a bomb.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But you wanted to make it look like your son
- 6:46Speaker 1: had a bomb.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So he put his backpack on reverse, walked into this store,
- 6:52Speaker 2: and you wanted to see the reaction of the man?
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yes. You could see that this work in this country,
- 6:57Speaker 3: look as he was going to.
- 7:01Speaker 3: To defecate in his pants, you know, and so this
- 7:03Speaker 3: is what... To.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Me, that's the height of bad taste he is a child,
- 7:07Speaker 2: to make it appear he's a suicide bomber.
- 7:09Speaker 3: But this is the reason why my Americans are going
- 7:13Speaker 3: to treat me with more respect, because to disrespect a
- 7:15Speaker 3: Muslim man is to risk a certain consequence. You see?
- 7:20Speaker 1: And this has made your entry into American society easier?
- 7:23Speaker 3: Well, this story, this is bad for a Muslim in
- 7:25Speaker 3: this country. It's not true about this. That's just those people... Mr. Penn, Mrs. Robbins,
- 7:31Speaker 3: we don't mistreat America because America is afraid that we
- 7:36Speaker 3: are mistreated as we will make this terrorism.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Okay, you've got a thick accent, sir, and I'm trying
- 7:42Speaker 2: to understand you, but the gist of what you're saying is.
- 7:45Speaker 3: No, we are not mistreated. I'm not saying America mistreats
- 7:50Speaker 3: these Middle Eastern people.
- 7:53Speaker 1: You're not saying we mistreat Middle Eastern people?
- 7:55Speaker 3: No, because Americans do not dare to. Because we have
- 8:01Speaker 3: shown that you don't treat Muslim men, Middle East men,
- 8:08Speaker 3: with disrespect. All right.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Do you have family here?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Yes, I do.
- 8:14Speaker 1: And where are they?
- 8:15Speaker 3: They are there in San Francisco. And this also plays
- 8:19Speaker 3: into what we're saying. But my brother moved to San
- 8:22Speaker 3: Francisco with his wife, his two daughters. And I confess...
- 8:28Speaker 3: We did this thing, what we thought was funny, to
- 8:31Speaker 3: watch the action of Americans.
- 8:33Speaker 1: What was it?
- 8:33Speaker 3: Well, we went to this Golden Gate Bridge, you know.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And we took pictures and the different pictures of the
- 8:44Speaker 3: Golden Gate Bridge. Americans think this is a terrorism. You know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: to me this is funny. And it also is important
- 8:53Speaker 3: because then Americans are not going to....
- 8:59Speaker 1: All right, wait a minute.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You went to the Golden Gate Bridge with your brother
- 9:02Speaker 2: and his family to take pictures of the Golden Gate
- 9:04Speaker 2: Bridge because Americans think that's what terrorists do, and you
- 9:06Speaker 2: thought that was funny.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yes, because, you see, Americans, they get nervous.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And what possible fun can you get out of this?
- 9:15Speaker 3: Because you're not listening to me. It's to let the
- 9:20Speaker 3: American people know that to be rude or to be
- 9:22Speaker 3: disrespectful of a man from the Middle East carries great risk.
- 9:27Speaker 2: To be rude or disrespectful of a man from the
- 9:29Speaker 2: Middle East carries great risk.
- 9:31Speaker 1: All right. 1-800-449-8686. He's got a very... It was difficult
- 9:34Speaker 1: for me to understand him, but.
- 9:37Speaker 2: His point is this. You may talk about Mexicans this
- 9:42Speaker 2: or that, but Middle Easterners, you don't get rude to
- 9:45Speaker 2: them to their face because.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And it sounds to me like he's using 9-11 as
- 9:48Speaker 1: the tacit threat. Now, he mentioned.
- 9:52Speaker 2: that he put his son's backpack on his son backwards
- 9:56Speaker 2: so that the backpack was in the front.
- 9:57Speaker 1: That's exactly the way the suicide bombers in Israel.
- 10:00Speaker 2: look like. And he sent him into a store so
- 10:02Speaker 2: him and his wife could get a laugh. We're talking
- 10:04Speaker 2: with Mr.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Raj Fanin. He's an Egyptian immigrant here in the United States.
- 10:08Speaker 1: He is a clothier.
- 10:10Speaker 2: The family owns real estate. They're doing very well here.
- 10:14Speaker 2: And he says Americans treat him very well. But one
- 10:16Speaker 2: of the reasons why they do is because Americans don't
- 10:18Speaker 2: dare mistreat a Middle Easterner for fear of, quote, the consequences,
- 10:23Speaker 2: end quote.
- 10:24Speaker 1: It's the Phil Henry Show.
- 10:25Speaker 5: The Phil Henry Show. Shock and awe meets your radio dial.
- 10:40Speaker 5: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Raj, hold on here for a minute.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Mr.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Raj Phaneen, a native of Egypt. He's an immigrant. You
- 10:46Speaker 1: call yourself a.
- 10:48Speaker 2: When I say you're an immigrant, I say that with
- 10:50Speaker 2: the greatest of respect. You come from the Middle East,
- 10:53Speaker 2: which you say is a plus, because people are intimidated
- 10:56Speaker 2: a little bit by Middle Easterners. Before we get to
- 10:59Speaker 2: a couple of phone calls, I wanted to ask you,
- 11:01Speaker 2: don't you want to be a good neighbor? Do you
- 11:02Speaker 2: want to influence people through fear?
- 11:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:07Speaker 3: You know, it's not... This is not a message that.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Is a message that I can, you know, understand, because.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Well, what's to understand, rather than make your neighbors afraid?
- 11:24Speaker 3: No, I come from Middle East. I come from Muslim country.
- 11:31Speaker 3: And the way that we deal with the problem of
- 11:38Speaker 3: our neighbor is to let them know, I'm a Middle
- 11:41Speaker 3: East man, you're not going to... you know, to intimidate me.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I don't know if this American, when you say, do
- 11:50Speaker 3: I want to be a good neighbor? I am a
- 11:51Speaker 3: good neighbor. But you will remember that you will not
- 11:58Speaker 3: be rude to me because I'm not a Mexican.
- 12:04Speaker 2: No, you seem to intimate that Mexican people get pushed around.
- 12:09Speaker 3: But the... They let themselves be governor. They let themselves
- 12:14Speaker 3: be pool boy. They let themselves be taco boy. This
- 12:17Speaker 3: kind of thing. This lady lived next door to us
- 12:21Speaker 3: in her town hall. She asked my wife, move your car.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Move your car from the back wall because she could
- 12:29Speaker 3: not move her car. And I went to her and
- 12:32Speaker 3: I said, I'm a Middle East man. Now you want
- 12:37Speaker 3: to ask me to move my car? And she said,
- 12:41Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I must have the wrong house.
- 12:45Speaker 1: No, she didn't.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yes, she did, because she knew. Oh, yeah? She knew.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You don't... We're very proud people.
- 12:52Speaker 1: All right, hold on. 1-800-449-8686. Elizabeth, go ahead. You're on
- 12:56Speaker 1: the Phil Hendry Show with Raj Fanin.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Hi.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am.
- 13:00Speaker 7: I have a few things I'd like to say. Number one,
- 13:03Speaker 7: if this guy were my neighbor or came in to
- 13:06Speaker 7: see me or saw me on the street or whatever,
- 13:08Speaker 7: and if he were rude to me... I would be
- 13:10Speaker 7: rude right back. I don't care what country he is.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Be careful.
- 13:14Speaker 7: Hey, I'm not scared of you. And you come from
- 13:20Speaker 7: a country where rudeness is a way of life. Well,
- 13:23Speaker 7: you know what? You're now in America where rudeness is
- 13:25Speaker 7: not a way of life. And you should be very
- 13:28Speaker 7: thankful that you can come into this country and own
- 13:31Speaker 7: real estate and a business. and everything else, and be
- 13:35Speaker 7: able to speak the way you speak without being afraid
- 13:38Speaker 7: of losing your head. I grew up in a military family.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I traveled through Egypt.
- 13:44Speaker 7: They were extremely rude, and not just to Americans, but
- 13:48Speaker 7: to anyone. So I'm not afraid of you.
- 13:51Speaker 3: You want to treat me as a Mexican. You can't
- 13:53Speaker 3: do this.
- 13:55Speaker 7: I'm not rude to Mexicans either, but I'm rude to
- 13:58Speaker 7: anybody else. I don't care what nationality they are. If
- 14:01Speaker 7: they're rude to me, I will be rude back. And
- 14:03Speaker 7: you're telling me to shut up? You shut up.
- 14:06Speaker 3: I'm asking you to shut your mouth so I can finish.
- 14:08Speaker 7: You shut your own mouth.
- 14:09Speaker 3: No, but please shut your mouth so that I can finish.
- 14:11Speaker 7: No, I'm not going to shut my mouth. That is
- 14:13Speaker 7: a rude way of asking me to please be quiet
- 14:15Speaker 7: so you can make your point. So you need to
- 14:18Speaker 7: be a little bit more polite to me if you
- 14:20Speaker 7: expect me to be polite to you.
- 14:21Speaker 3: But do you see how you're afraid? I can tell
- 14:23Speaker 3: in your voice. It quivers like you're a child.
- 14:26Speaker 7: I'm hardly a child. I'm just so angry at you
- 14:29Speaker 7: right now that I am just trying to hold back
- 14:32Speaker 7: my anger.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Let me jump in here. Mr. Fennine, first of all,
- 14:35Speaker 1: Elizabeth makes a very good point.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Saying shut your mouth is an idiom in our country
- 14:39Speaker 2: and in our language that is rude. You may say,
- 14:41Speaker 2: may I say something? Could you be quiet for a moment?
- 14:44Speaker 2: Do you understand what I'm saying?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 14:46Speaker 5: No.
- 14:48Speaker 3: You don't understand.
- 14:49Speaker 2: No, I'm trying to tell you that the phrase, please
- 14:53Speaker 2: shut your mouth, is rude.
- 14:55Speaker 3: But you won't shut your mouth.
- 14:56Speaker 7: But he didn't say please. All he said was shut
- 14:59Speaker 7: your mouth.
- 14:59Speaker 3: No, but you won't shut your mouth. You continue to.
- 15:01Speaker 7: Well, no, I'm not going to shut my mouth, because
- 15:03Speaker 7: I don't want to listen to anything you have to say.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Why don't you shut.
- 15:06Speaker 7: You're rude, and you know what? Go back to your
- 15:08Speaker 7: own damn country.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Why don't you shut your mouth and listen to him?
- 15:11Speaker 7: No, I'm not going to shut my mouth. You're being
- 15:13Speaker 7: a polite boy, and then I will stop speaking.
- 15:15Speaker 3: This is typical of Big White Cracker Lady.
- 15:20Speaker 1: What do you mean big white cracker lady?
- 15:22Speaker 7: What makes you think I'm white?
- 15:25Speaker 3: You're kidding, right?
- 15:27Speaker 7: No, I'm asking you, what makes you think I am white?
- 15:29Speaker 3: Because you won't shut your mouth.
- 15:32Speaker 7: Oh, that has nothing to do with it. For your information,
- 15:35Speaker 7: I have Cuban heritage in me, and I'm not going
- 15:38Speaker 7: to shut my mouth because you think I'm white. That
- 15:41Speaker 7: is a racist comment, and I don't think how you
- 15:44Speaker 7: can expect anybody to be polite to you when you
- 15:48Speaker 7: are racist.
- 15:49Speaker 3: But you might be Cuban, but you talk like Big
- 15:51Speaker 3: White Cracker Lady. Yeah, white faculty. You know what?
- 15:54Speaker 7: Go back to your own damn country and learn how
- 15:56Speaker 7: to speak English.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Why can't you shut your mouth to listen to me?
- 15:59Speaker 3: I'm not going to shut my mouth.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Please don't say shut her mouth. It's a rude phrase, Mr. Fanin.
- 16:04Speaker 3: He knows it's rude.
- 16:05Speaker 7: Anybody who has a business in our country needs to
- 16:09Speaker 7: be a little bit more polite. I pity the people
- 16:13Speaker 7: that he deals with.
- 16:14Speaker 3: You're Cuban. You're not American.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Oh, I am American. I was born in the United States.
- 16:19Speaker 3: If you're Cuban, then no one is afraid of you.
- 16:21Speaker 3: I would like to hire you to clean my home.
- 16:24Speaker 7: I didn't say anybody. You know what? That is such
- 16:27Speaker 7: a misconception. Nobody's afraid of anybody because of their race.
- 16:32Speaker 3: But you are a Cuban lady. You're afraid of.
- 16:34Speaker 7: Somebody because of the way they project themselves.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 16:37Speaker 7: Maybe you project yourself as a... threatening person and that's
- 16:41Speaker 7: what frightens them but you know what you can come
- 16:44Speaker 7: up to me and say I'm not going to back down.
- 16:47Speaker 3: But you won't shut your mouth I'm.
- 16:49Speaker 7: Not going to shut my mouth why should I shut

- 17:45Speaker 2: Thank you very much for your call. I can understand
- 17:46Speaker 2: the lady's indignation. I would ask you to refrain from
- 17:50Speaker 2: the phrase, shut your mouth. It is considered rude.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Here is Judy. Judy, go ahead. You're on The Phil
- 17:54Speaker 1: Henry Show.
- 17:55Speaker 6: Yet i think it's just that i have to tell
- 17:58Speaker 6: you that is the rudest man who had disrespected everybody
- 18:03Speaker 6: in america and yet he claims.
- 18:06Speaker 3: To want our respect no matter what.
- 18:09Speaker 6: Could be respected but he will get respect that no
- 18:12Speaker 6: man is an idiot i don't know if it was absolutely.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Right but you see you will not shut your mouth
- 18:18Speaker 3: to listen to what i'm saying i have said i'm
- 18:22Speaker 3: middle east man i'm not threatening.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Anyone You are not, you are threatening all of us
- 18:28Speaker 6: because you think in your silly mind that we are
- 18:32Speaker 6: disrespecting you. You are doing things to provoke and disrespect us.
- 18:38Speaker 7: But we are.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Americans and we don't retaliate and do what you do.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Judy, hang on for a minute. I'm going to take
- 18:44Speaker 2: a break, but you'll be first up when we come out.
- 18:45Speaker 2: We have Raj Faneen on the line. He's an Egyptian
- 18:47Speaker 2: businessman who says it's different for Middle Eastern immigrants because
- 18:51Speaker 2: people do not dare... insult or mistreat them. There are
- 18:55Speaker 2: certain risks. Now, I'm hearing a guy threatening. He just said,
- 19:00Speaker 2: you disrespect us, things go kaboom.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You heard that.
- 19:07Speaker 5: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Mr. Fennine, Raj Fennine joins us.
- 19:11Speaker 2: An Egyptian businessman. You say you're in the real estate business.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You say you also have clothing.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Mostly wholesale clothing. business as well as different
- 19:24Speaker 3: entrepreneurial pursuits. But I wanted to say that the Middle
- 19:32Speaker 3: East man is not a bad man.
- 19:36Speaker 1: No, but you want him to look like a bad man.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I've got a caller hanging on.
- 19:39Speaker 3: No, no, no. Just please shut your mouth and let
- 19:43Speaker 3: me say this.
- 19:43Speaker 2: No, sir, don't tell me to shut my mouth, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: I want to go back to this caller. Judy is
- 19:47Speaker 2: on the line.
- 19:48Speaker 3: But I want to make this point.
- 19:49Speaker 1: All right. right, Judy, go ahead.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Yes. I want to say just one more thing to
- 19:54Speaker 6: this man.
- 19:55Speaker 3: You are an absolute.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Disgrace to every Muslim in this country that is working
- 20:01Speaker 6: hard and living a nice life in the American country.
- 20:06Speaker 6: You're a disgrace, sir, to every Muslim that is doing that.
- 20:09Speaker 6: And they are not like you. Thank heaven.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Could I ask you a question? What? You... Look... If
- 20:20Speaker 3: I say to you, for instance, Judy, do you have
- 20:26Speaker 3: a daughter?
- 20:27Speaker 6: I'm sorry. We have a lot of interference. I can
- 20:30Speaker 6: barely hear you.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Do you have a daughter? Do you have a little girl?
- 20:34Speaker 6: Do I have what?
- 20:35Speaker 3: A daughter.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Yes, I do, and my niece is married to a Muslim,
- 20:40Speaker 6: and let me tell you, he does not go around
- 20:44Speaker 6: disrespecting Americans. More does he try to intimidate or threaten them.
- 20:49Speaker 6: He is a very.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Nice person, and you're a disgrace to the Muslim race.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I would say to you, please don't have your daughter
- 20:57Speaker 3: act like a field slut. In front of my son.
- 21:01Speaker 6: Sir, you are a disgrace and I am not even
- 21:04Speaker 6: going to honor that statement. You are a disgrace.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Period. You won't shut your mouth.
- 21:10Speaker 6: You are an absolute disgusting disgrace.
- 21:13Speaker 3: You are afraid of me.
- 21:14Speaker 6: I am not afraid of you, you little jerk.
- 21:18Speaker 3: If you see me sitting behind you in Anchorman, I
- 21:20Speaker 3: see the sweat trickle down your neck.
- 21:22Speaker 6: If I see you sitting behind me, I would say
- 21:24Speaker 6: hello if the occasion arose. And if we didn't make
- 21:28Speaker 6: eye contact, I'd ignore you.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yes, but.
- 21:30Speaker 6: Because you're not important enough.
- 21:32Speaker 3: To be afraid of. If I suspect that you're going
- 21:36Speaker 3: to be talking in the movie, I would say I
- 21:38Speaker 3: don't want you to talk like a field slut.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Do you understand what you're saying, sir, when you say
- 21:46Speaker 2: to a woman, is your daughter a field slut?
- 21:49Speaker 1: No.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Please listen to me and please shut your mouth.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Don't tell me to shut my mouth anymore. I'm going
- 21:55Speaker 1: to listen to you. Just don't tell me to shut
- 21:57Speaker 1: my mouth.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Sir, I am simply trying to establish for my family,
- 22:02Speaker 3: for my people. the Middle East people, that you will
- 22:05Speaker 3: not push us around like you push around these Mexicans,
- 22:08Speaker 3: like you push around these people here.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Not all Americans push around Mexicans. Maybe we don't have
- 22:14Speaker 2: the greatest track record when it comes to immigrants, but
- 22:15Speaker 2: by God, we've got a hell of a lot of
- 22:17Speaker 2: them coming here anyway, okay? And for you to say that,
- 22:20Speaker 2: you know, you're going to intimidate me by calling my
- 22:22Speaker 2: daughter a field slut, I'm going to tell you something.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I'm not going to take that very kindly. Do you understand?
- 22:26Speaker 3: Ah, yes, but you'll be warned, you see.
- 22:28Speaker 1: What do you mean, I'll be warned?
- 22:30Speaker 3: You will know that the Middle East men I'm a
- 22:33Speaker 3: Middle East man, okay? I'm not going to... You're not
- 22:36Speaker 3: going to make jokes of me. You're not going to say, hey, look,
- 22:41Speaker 3: there goes this camel jockey into my face. So if
- 22:46Speaker 3: I say that your daughter is a field slut.
- 22:50Speaker 2: You don't say that my daughter is a field slut
- 22:52Speaker 2: to my face and get away with it.
- 22:54Speaker 3: No, but you... I have to establish... See, you won't
- 22:57Speaker 3: shut your mouth.
- 22:58Speaker 1: You won't... Don't tell me to shut my mouth. Let
- 23:02Speaker 1: me go over to Nicole. Nicole, you're on the Phil
- 23:05Speaker 1: Henry Show with Mr. Raj Fanin.
- 23:06Speaker 3: How are you doing? Yes, ma'am.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Well, I just want to make a comment to this
- 23:11Speaker 4: Middle Eastern person that, again, this is America. And maybe
- 23:16Speaker 4: in your country you can.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Intimidate by threatening. No, I'm not.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I've dated Middle Eastern men, and you guys are a
- 23:25Speaker 4: bunch of swines. But anyway, hey, you guys have no respect.
- 23:28Speaker 4: You cannot earn respect in the state of California.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Once you go Middle East, you can't go back.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I'm actually married to a Mexican, and he's wonderful.
- 23:38Speaker 6: I think you're married to.
- 23:39Speaker 3: A Middle East man, and you think he's a Mexican.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Do you know the difference between.
- 23:42Speaker 4: A Mexican and a Middle Easterner?
- 23:44Speaker 6: It's about 13,000 miles.
- 23:45Speaker 4: You do not earn respect.
- 23:54Speaker 6: By threatening if you know i don't want to say
- 23:57Speaker 6: any kind of.
- 23:58Speaker 4: A threatening thing either your son if he ever came
- 24:01Speaker 4: into establishment and i am there wearing a backpack he's
- 24:04Speaker 4: not only going to get his butt kicked by my
- 24:07Speaker 4: me personally But I'm also going to call the cops,
- 24:09Speaker 4: and then we're going to call the FBI, and then
- 24:11Speaker 4: we're going to have an investigation.
- 24:13Speaker 3: On your family. And then we're going.
- 24:15Speaker 4: To deport your butt right back to your country for
- 24:18Speaker 4: some reason why you left and came to our country
- 24:21Speaker 4: for better opportunities.
- 24:22Speaker 3: You call the cops on a little boy who's wearing
- 24:25Speaker 3: a backpack.
- 24:26Speaker 4: No, because, you know, when we call the cops on.
- 24:30Speaker 7: A backpack on a little boy, we're going to.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Wonder why he's doing that. And when he tells us
- 24:35Speaker 4: it's funny... Then we're going to investigate the parents because
- 24:38Speaker 4: we think that's poor parenting.
- 24:40Speaker 3: What did he do that's wrong?
- 24:42Speaker 4: You just said it's funny. And to instill a threat,
- 24:48Speaker 4: you know, or a guise of a possible threat, you
- 24:51Speaker 4: find that funny.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yes, it's funny. Look at this.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Hey, why did you come to our country?
- 24:58Speaker 3: This is my country. No, it's not.
- 25:00Speaker 7: It's our country.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I'm an immigrant. Do you know that I can talk
- 25:04Speaker 3: to you?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Why did you leave Egypt?
- 25:06Speaker 6: Why are you here?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Because my brother... He's in business. He has a clothing wholesale. Nicole,
- 25:14Speaker 3: people see me. They look at me with respect and fear.
- 25:16Speaker 3: People see your Mexican husband. They say, how much is
- 25:19Speaker 3: the lettuce today? This is the difference.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Are you playing ping pong?
- 25:24Speaker 4: I have plenty of Muslim friends of Egyptian, Persian, and.
- 25:27Speaker 7: Iranian, and Egyptian, and Persian.
- 25:31Speaker 4: I have no, I've never looked at them with fear.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I come up to them, and if they give me respect,
- 25:37Speaker 4: I give it right back to them.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Guys, I want to ask you a question. Nicole, hold on.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I want to ask you a question. Are you playing
- 25:41Speaker 1: ping pong?
- 25:42Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Why?
- 25:42Speaker 3: This is what I'm trying to say. I'm listening to Nicole,
- 25:47Speaker 3: but I'm also playing ping pong with my son because
- 25:50Speaker 3: I don't want Nicole to think that I'm hanging on
- 25:53Speaker 3: her every word, but I'm not disrespecting her. I'm just
- 25:57Speaker 3: slightly bored by her.
- 26:00Speaker 4: I'm not entirely bored by your level of intelligence, but
- 26:03Speaker 4: you know what? I'm trying to hang on.
- 26:05Speaker 3: But I play ping-pong, you see. Well, I'm driving. You
- 26:11Speaker 3: don't have to drive. I have to play ping-pong, you see. So, anyway,
- 26:17Speaker 3: if I see you, I'll say, hello, Nicole. But don't
- 26:24Speaker 3: disrespect me.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I would never disrespect something of any person... on a
- 26:30Speaker 4: first basis intentionally. That's rude.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Listen to me. I'm going to say this to you.
- 26:36Speaker 3: It's going to mess your pants with fear. Are you ready?
- 26:39Speaker 3: I'll cut you. You like that?
- 26:45Speaker 1: Okay, so what are you doing, man?
- 26:49Speaker 3: I'm playing ping pong.
- 26:53Speaker 1: What's the problem? You're talking to my callers and you're
- 26:55Speaker 1: playing ping pong. You're going into some Western I'll cut
- 26:58Speaker 1: you thing. Why are you playing ping-pong?
- 27:01Speaker 3: Ping-pong is very big in Egypt. What the hell do
- 27:05Speaker 3: you think you are, telling me not to play ping-pong?
- 27:07Speaker 3: Huge in Egypt. I'm getting nutty for a big tournament.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And if you tell me I'm not playing ping-pong, you
- 27:15Speaker 3: know what I say to you?
- 27:16Speaker 1: Oh, I know what you're going to say.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Man, I'll cut you.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Jeez, you almost sang that out.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Okay, game, add in.
- 27:25Speaker 7: Later.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Later.
