- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: And that's now live on the interwebs.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hello everybody, and welcome back to another episode of Star
- 0:26Speaker 3: Wars Alive. Katie, as soon as I pressed go live,
- 0:30Speaker 3: you kept talking, goes like, oh, well, let's see.
- 0:33Speaker 4: If this makes it into the final edit.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Well, of course I am with Katie today like always,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and guys, I think we are in for a treat
- 0:48Speaker 3: because because.
- 0:52Speaker 4: We are going to.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Be reviewing a Legends novel to one of the most
- 0:58Speaker 3: fun games I have ever played in the Star Wars genre.
- 1:05Speaker 3: And Katie came to me as soon as she dumped
- 1:08Speaker 3: on this call and said, hey, spoiler like I hated this,
- 1:15Speaker 3: I was like, oh boy, let's get going. Oh this
- 1:20Speaker 3: is gonna be fun.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:23Speaker 3: I will tell you now, as somebody who has played
- 1:26Speaker 3: the game, I have not played it since it was
- 1:29Speaker 3: released on the Wii by the way, so two thousand
- 1:40Speaker 3: that been two thousand and eight, maybe.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Eighty boom yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, PlayStation two, PlayStation three, we and Xbox three sixty consoles.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Now I will say this, let me actually move my
- 1:57Speaker 3: uh windows here for a second to actually see I
- 2:01Speaker 3: should have it. Yeah, I have forced unleashed on this
- 2:09Speaker 3: computer because I bought the Humble bundle of like all
- 2:12Speaker 3: the Star Wars games, and I was like, you know what,
- 2:18Speaker 3: this might get me to want to play the game again,
- 2:22Speaker 3: and so I might play it this summer.
- 2:26Speaker 4: I do have a long list.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Of games I need to play. The people over in
- 2:31Speaker 3: the GUA chat are talking about the news of Last
- 2:35Speaker 3: of Us being turned into now four seasons, and I
- 2:38Speaker 3: still haven't played the second game, and that season's gonna
- 2:40Speaker 3: start like in a month and a half, so I
- 2:44Speaker 3: need to get started on that as well. So I
- 2:47Speaker 3: know the replay of Forced Unleash is going to have
- 2:50Speaker 3: to wait for a hot minute. But Katie, do we
- 2:55Speaker 3: have any.
- 2:57Speaker 4: News this week?
- 3:01Speaker 2: So? Uh, we do have. I would say one piece
- 3:05Speaker 2: there was Collider did an interview with Daisy Ridley for
- 3:09Speaker 2: her upcoming action movie Cleaner. However, we kind of already
- 3:16Speaker 2: talked about what's in it. I love Maggie, she did
- 3:19Speaker 2: the interview. She's great. Highly recommend you go check out
- 3:22Speaker 2: the interview. We've already talked about the majority of the
- 3:25Speaker 2: topics in the interview, so I would say if you
- 3:29Speaker 2: want to hear from the source herself, because what we
- 3:33Speaker 2: have talked about is a bunch of rumors, then go
- 3:36Speaker 2: read the interview. I think she actually had to listen
- 3:39Speaker 2: to it too, like she has a podcast version of
- 3:41Speaker 2: it too, So highly recommend Maggie. She's great. But the
- 3:48Speaker 2: two bits of news that we do have Galaxy's Edge.
- 3:54Speaker 2: We'll be incorporating some Skywalker Saga characters like in the
- 3:59Speaker 2: prequel and original trilogy era because as we all know,
- 4:04Speaker 2: Galaxy's Edge takes place in the sequels trilogy canonically. Like,
- 4:10Speaker 2: but they have continued to say if you encounter any
- 4:15Speaker 2: characters like Luke Skywalker for instance, is going to be
- 4:18Speaker 2: appearing as his young character self, he's not involved in
- 4:22Speaker 2: the story. Like if you walk around Galaxy's Edge, you
- 4:25Speaker 2: have like Kylo Wrinn is interacting, the Stormtroopers are interacting.
- 4:29Speaker 2: There's a full blowne story involved in Galaxy's Edge. But
- 4:35Speaker 2: Luke Skywalker, if you see Han Solo, like Mando and
- 4:39Speaker 2: Grove View have been there, like they're not a part
- 4:41Speaker 2: of the story. They're just kind of there for the
- 4:43Speaker 2: photo ops. But as part of that, they will be
- 4:48Speaker 2: debuting a nude nightly projection show entitled Shadows of Memory,
- 4:54Speaker 2: a Skywalker Saga, and it's just basically going to replay
- 4:59Speaker 2: some the big hits from the Skywalker saga, like here
- 5:04Speaker 2: in Memoriam kind of thing.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yeah, if you guys have, if anybody has had the
- 5:10Speaker 3: great opportunity to go to Disney World, because I will
- 5:14Speaker 3: say it's a great opportunity because I am a Disney kid.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I was raised on Disney through my grandmother, and I
- 5:23Speaker 3: was a little kid in a candy store when I
- 5:26Speaker 3: went back, like literally right before COVID seeing the light
- 5:32Speaker 3: show on the castle. This is basically what it's going
- 5:35Speaker 3: to be. Is It's going to be a small light show,
- 5:39Speaker 3: probably no fireworks, but the projection is something that they
- 5:42Speaker 3: have always done. They do it in Animal Kingdom, they
- 5:45Speaker 3: do it at Cinderella's Castle. So of course they're like, hey,
- 5:49Speaker 3: what do we want? Because I do believe correct me
- 5:52Speaker 3: if I'm wrong. Galaxy's Edge is in the Oh shoot,
- 5:59Speaker 3: which park? Is it the Magic Kingdom? No? No, no, not
- 6:05Speaker 3: the Magic Kingdom? It is uh, oh.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Shoot, You're asking the wrong person.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I literally had it right in my head, hold on
- 6:17Speaker 3: Disney Park's Disney World. Let me see, let me see,
- 6:22Speaker 3: let me see them see it is Hollywood Studios. I
- 6:28Speaker 3: knew it was Hollywood something or something in Hollywood. Yeah,
- 6:31Speaker 3: in Hollywood studios. It's gonna be fun. I think it'll
- 6:35Speaker 3: be a lot of fun.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I don't know the parks like that. I've been to
- 6:39Speaker 2: Disney once, but it was the Disney California and I
- 6:42Speaker 2: was like twelve years old. Like, my dad is a
- 6:48Speaker 2: big seller for a company. I'm not gonna state which company,
- 6:51Speaker 2: but they basically reward the people who are their highest
- 6:55Speaker 2: sellers with a trip every year. So like they're going
- 7:00Speaker 2: in a couple of weeks too. I think it's like
- 7:03Speaker 2: Puerto Rico or something. But so they get to go.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They participate in all the big spiels in everything, so
- 7:11Speaker 2: they've always pretty much gone on this trip. And finally
- 7:15Speaker 2: my dad was like because we were all homeschooled at
- 7:17Speaker 2: the time, so it worked out because it's always in
- 7:19Speaker 2: like February March timeframe, and my dad was like, I'm
- 7:23Speaker 2: done going to the beach. I want to be able
- 7:26Speaker 2: to go on a trip with my family. So they
- 7:28Speaker 2: paid for us all to go to California and go
- 7:31Speaker 2: to Disney for five days. That's the only time I've
- 7:36Speaker 2: ever been, and that was the first time I had
- 7:38Speaker 2: gone to the West Coast because I am born and
- 7:40Speaker 2: raised South Carolina, so but that is my only experience.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I would love to go back one day. My big
- 7:48Speaker 2: dream is to build a lightsaber. I really want to
- 7:50Speaker 2: build a lightsaber. Matt and I have talked about it,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and we will probably make a plan because as soon
- 7:57Speaker 2: as they turn three, right is when you have to
- 8:00Speaker 2: pay for a kid's ticket.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So we'll probably try and fit in a trip before
- 8:06Speaker 2: she turns three, so that way, like.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Go go.
- 8:13Speaker 3: During her birthday, so that way you can just rub
- 8:17Speaker 3: it in their face she's two, but we already have
- 8:20Speaker 3: the ticket. She's three now, and she's still getting in
- 8:24Speaker 3: for free.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Thank you bye.
- 8:27Speaker 2: That's what I've seen those videos too, where they're like
- 8:29Speaker 2: play on the trip for the third birthday, like but
- 8:32Speaker 2: go before.
- 8:33Speaker 3: So we are currently planning a trip to go visit
- 8:39Speaker 3: my grandparents in Texas this year. And then I told Abby,
- 8:45Speaker 3: the day after we get back, we start saving for
- 8:50Speaker 3: Disney World. Yeah, because we plan on taking Amberlyn for
- 8:56Speaker 3: her fifth birthday. She's already two, so if we up
- 9:00Speaker 3: for three whole years, we'll have all the money plus
- 9:03Speaker 3: some for all the nice little goodies and to have
- 9:06Speaker 3: some souvenirs for that trip. But yeah, really really excited
- 9:10Speaker 3: to because when we did go, it was literally the
- 9:13Speaker 3: week before Galaxy's Edge opened.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Oh that sucks.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Yeah it was I was mad. I was mad.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the dream. Okay, we're are adults, but you
- 9:26Speaker 2: know what, we can still dream to go to Disney.
- 9:29Speaker 3: So I see you already having a preview down here.
- 9:33Speaker 3: What is the last piece of news?
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yes, so Edge of Balance Volume four is out. Please
- 9:40Speaker 2: let please hold well, I pull up my release doc
- 9:44Speaker 2: uh from Uteni dot com, who has the tweet that
- 9:47Speaker 2: I have. Edge of Balance four is out April twenty second,
- 9:53Speaker 2: and this is the lovely cover that we have for
- 9:56Speaker 2: the manga by Matzuki Saka key Bara, and it is
- 10:02Speaker 2: our two youngering friends on the planet. I can't remember
- 10:09Speaker 2: their names for the life of me, so I apologize,
- 10:13Speaker 2: but I like to see how we've transitioned over the
- 10:17Speaker 2: mangas we've had. Oh gosh, I can't even remember the
- 10:22Speaker 2: main character's name. This is how much this manga impacted
- 10:24Speaker 2: Lily Lily. Yes, we had Lily, then we had her
- 10:28Speaker 2: pad One, then we had her Master, and now we
- 10:31Speaker 2: have the two younglings that he's in charge of. So
- 10:36Speaker 2: good transitions over the years remember there is two mangas
- 10:41Speaker 2: coming out in April, so Edge Balance Premonition will be
- 10:44Speaker 2: out April eighth, and then this Guy is out April twenty.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Second, so awesome, awesome.
- 10:52Speaker 2: That's all we have, which is also why I figured
- 10:56Speaker 2: we would talk about this bad Boy first, because that
- 10:59Speaker 2: was eleven minutes total. So all right, y'all, we're gonna
- 11:05Speaker 2: hit our first ad break and we will be right
- 11:07Speaker 2: back in three two one.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I did not think we were going to talk about
- 11:13Speaker 3: that book, but we can. I have my copy in
- 11:17Speaker 3: amber Lyn's room right now, so for visual reference, look
- 11:23Speaker 3: at Katie's screen.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yes, thank you Disney for sending this to us, because
- 11:29Speaker 2: I greatly appreciate. I cried this last night, I to
- 11:34Speaker 2: Cli because we've had this for what probably three weeks now.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yeah, about two two and a half weeks, and.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Things have just been chaos, which is why we haven't
- 11:42Speaker 2: talked about it yet.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 2: But uh, this is written by Beth Breevis and illustrated
- 11:49Speaker 2: by Sophie Lee, and oh my gosh, the illustrations in
- 11:53Speaker 2: this are flat out gorgeous.
- 11:56Speaker 3: I love the art in this. It's very water color,
- 12:03Speaker 3: paste like, very smooth.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I love the colors on this because you have the
- 12:12Speaker 3: uh you're you're on uh the indoor, Yeah, the moon indoor.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I was like, wait, hold on, yeah, they're on the
- 12:22Speaker 3: moon of Indoor. You see all the ewoks. But when
- 12:27Speaker 3: it's daytime, like, it's all the bright greens and yellows
- 12:31Speaker 3: and browns. It's very soft. And then even like the
- 12:37Speaker 3: dark panels like you just showed, it's not harsh. They
- 12:41Speaker 3: are still able to make it very vibrant. Uh. It's
- 12:46Speaker 3: it's just such a good book. And I love the
- 12:48Speaker 3: way that they This is a book that is spoken
- 12:54Speaker 3: by narrated by both Leah and Han. And the way
- 13:01Speaker 3: the text which yeah, the way that the text is
- 13:04Speaker 3: formatted onto these pages. You have you have Han, who
- 13:10Speaker 3: is the basic just times New Roman based, and then
- 13:18Speaker 3: you have Leah, who is the elegant, like freaking cursive,
- 13:23Speaker 3: and and it's just so good. I love the aesthetic
- 13:27Speaker 3: of this. I think it was very very clever, and
- 13:31Speaker 3: it is a very simple book. It's not heavily complicated.
- 13:37Speaker 3: There's not big words. This is genuinely, I feel like
- 13:43Speaker 3: a bedtime story. This is something that you can sit
- 13:46Speaker 3: there and very be very soft spoken. Now granted, and oh,
- 13:52Speaker 3: go ahead, go ahead.
- 13:54Speaker 2: This was said to be like an adaptation of the
- 13:57Speaker 2: Princess and the Scoundrel kind of thing in the art
- 14:00Speaker 2: work is pulled from that, which is why Beth Remis
- 14:02Speaker 2: wrote it is because that's her story to pull from.
- 14:07Speaker 2: But I wouldn't consider it an adaptation like this is Hey,
- 14:11Speaker 2: let's talk about love, which I don't think there's a
- 14:17Speaker 2: problem with at all whatsoever.
- 14:19Speaker 3: No, but you know, talking about the sweetness and the
- 14:24Speaker 3: softness of this. Katie texted me and she's like, you
- 14:28Speaker 3: didn't tell me.
- 14:29Speaker 4: You were, like, I was gonna cry with this bug.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Bahah so sweet and adorable. Oh my god.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, the adorableness for me kind of
- 14:39Speaker 3: just like left the window, Like the moment I started
- 14:44Speaker 3: reading the book. Now, i've read it to Amberlin since,
- 14:47Speaker 3: but the first time I read it, Amberln was bawling
- 14:50Speaker 3: her eyes out, screaming at me because she didn't want
- 14:53Speaker 3: to go to bed, banging on the door like a
- 14:56Speaker 3: crazy person. My man, ma man, And I'm just here
- 15:00Speaker 3: as calm as can be, reading every single page acting
- 15:04Speaker 3: like nothing is wrong with her, screaming out, bringing my ears.
- 15:10Speaker 4: It was kind of the worst.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we've we've had, We've had better experiences with the
- 15:19Speaker 3: book now, but it is such a great book. So
- 15:24Speaker 3: I will say this, if you have young ones, if
- 15:27Speaker 3: you have little bitty babies, get it. I would say
- 15:33Speaker 3: this is a good book for toddlers all the way
- 15:37Speaker 3: up until they're learning to read, uh, four or five,
- 15:42Speaker 3: six years old. I think it's a great book because
- 15:46Speaker 3: the text in the book is actually a bit larger
- 15:51Speaker 3: than normal, and even the size of the book is
- 15:55Speaker 3: actually a bigger sized book. When I first opened the package,
- 15:59Speaker 3: I was like, why is this book so wide? And
- 16:02Speaker 3: then I opened and I was like, oh, that's why.
- 16:05Speaker 2: So and it matches with their other like kids size books,
- 16:10Speaker 2: like I have one of the Young Jedi Adventures books
- 16:14Speaker 2: back there, and then the first book Charles and Rosemary
- 16:19Speaker 2: Soul did together, which was like the young readers like
- 16:22Speaker 2: not even middle grade book, and the size all pretty
- 16:26Speaker 2: much matches up, like.
- 16:34Speaker 3: So this is okay.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Yeah, so.
- 16:39Speaker 2: They're pretty identical size wise.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Okay, So that's convenient.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I like that.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah, And it makes because the pages are are like
- 16:52Speaker 2: traditional book pages where you feel like a baby could
- 16:56Speaker 2: rip them to because like I have, we got given
- 16:58Speaker 2: a bunch of like doctor SEUs book with like fragile pages.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I like showers and stuff, so I have all those
- 17:05Speaker 2: put up. But I wouldn't like leave her alone with
- 17:07Speaker 2: this book right now. But I felt a little bit
- 17:10Speaker 2: better with her like putting her hands on it, because
- 17:12Speaker 2: I didn't feel like pages were just gonna rip.
- 17:15Speaker 3: So good quality, yeah, good quality. I like the paper stock,
- 17:20Speaker 3: really really nice book. Now let's hear Katie rip all
- 17:27Speaker 3: of our hearts out, so I how much she hated
- 17:32Speaker 3: this book.
- 17:32Speaker 2: We're gonna go into our second ad break and we'll
- 17:36Speaker 2: be right back. So I have the mass market book
- 17:40Speaker 2: because of my Legends collection, and this book didn't really
- 17:45Speaker 2: mean a whole lot to me, so I didn't have
- 17:47Speaker 2: it ordered for the Essential Legends collection. So I don't
- 17:53Speaker 2: have the cover that is pictured on YouTube or on
- 17:57Speaker 2: your podcast feed. So I have the video game cut
- 18:01Speaker 2: with the nice little Legends banner above it. Speaking of books,
- 18:04Speaker 2: by the way, sorry totally off topic, but I saw
- 18:08Speaker 2: somebody who was like, I can't believe Disney made the
- 18:14Speaker 2: Star Wars books uncannon basically and like ripped all of
- 18:19Speaker 2: our hearts out and like just replaced it with Garden
- 18:23Speaker 2: this book. George Lucas never said any of these books
- 18:27Speaker 2: were Cannon.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I was gonna say Forced Unleashed, definitely not.
- 18:32Speaker 4: It was never going.
- 18:35Speaker 3: To be Cannon. Now, I told Katie, I technically have
- 18:41Speaker 3: not finished this book yet. I still have twelve minutes
- 18:44Speaker 3: on the audiobook and that was after reading the The
- 18:47Speaker 3: last chapter is an hour and one minute long. Why
- 18:54Speaker 3: you could have you could have you could have made
- 18:56Speaker 3: that like three extra chapters. Come on now. But I
- 19:02Speaker 3: have played the game. The only one that I have
- 19:04Speaker 3: not played is Forced Unleash too, which I do plan
- 19:08Speaker 3: on playing eventually because I own it.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Now.
- 19:12Speaker 3: That being said, this character known as star Killer aka
- 19:21Speaker 3: the Apprentice because he has no name, that is his
- 19:25Speaker 3: thing in this book, he is what everybody wishes Luke
- 19:33Speaker 3: Skywalker was. I'm gonna go flat out and say it
- 19:40Speaker 3: because even in the trailers of this video game, the
- 19:47Speaker 3: video game itself, and even this novelization, he does crazy
- 19:54Speaker 3: powerful things that no other Jedi in current format, I believe,
- 20:03Speaker 3: and I could be mistaken, has ever done with the Force.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And so.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Correction, because I guess technically Visions is a part of
- 20:17Speaker 3: the Star Wars genre, of course, not canon. And you
- 20:23Speaker 3: know we had somebody turn on a lightsaber that was
- 20:27Speaker 3: the size of Godzilla and destroy a freaking star destroyer,
- 20:31Speaker 3: So that that makes sense. But Star Killer literally pulls
- 20:39Speaker 3: a star Destroyer out of this guy. Yeah, nobody's ever
- 20:46Speaker 3: done that before. And I will say this, Katie, when
- 20:51Speaker 3: everybody saw that trailer for the game, you had two
- 20:56Speaker 3: camps just like you do nowadays. Everybody was like, holy shit,
- 21:00Speaker 3: that was so amazing, Oh my god. Yeah, and then
- 21:04Speaker 3: you have, of course had the the nerve. Uh what, technically,
- 21:07Speaker 3: no one can ever do that because nobody's that powerful
- 21:10Speaker 3: in the forests. Like, guys, it's a freaking video game
- 21:15Speaker 3: brought up. But yeah, I really enjoyed the game back
- 21:23Speaker 3: when I played it. Like I said, the game came
- 21:27Speaker 3: out in two thousand and eight. I played it for
- 21:29Speaker 3: the Wii, and the only reason why I bought it
- 21:31Speaker 3: for the Wii is because if you bought the Deluxe Edition,
- 21:36Speaker 3: it came with an actual lightsaber connection for your Wii
- 21:43Speaker 3: remote that would turn either you had a blue one
- 21:47Speaker 3: and you had a red one, and like, it was.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Just really fun.
- 21:51Speaker 3: And I was like, I'm fifteen years old playing with
- 21:54Speaker 3: a lightsaber playing video games.
- 21:55Speaker 4: This is amazing. Yeah, it was.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It was really really fun, and I really really loved it.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Reading the book, I had that same nostalgic feeling. Now,
- 22:08Speaker 3: if I were to compare it to all of the
- 22:12Speaker 3: Star Wars books that we have reviewed on this show,
- 22:16Speaker 3: it probably would not hit the top ten. It is
- 22:22Speaker 3: a basic story, it really is.
- 22:26Speaker 2: It reads novelization.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Like the.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Dialogue. The dialogue, Katie, there was lines here in this
- 22:38Speaker 3: novel that are ripped straight from the game.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah. And so I'm looking at Sean Williams stuff. And
- 22:52Speaker 2: he wrote the Force Heretic trilogy, which I really enjoyed.
- 22:56Speaker 2: That's part of the New Jedi Order. Serious. He also
- 23:00Speaker 2: wrote the Old Republic Fatal Alliance and the Force and
- 23:05Speaker 2: Leash to which I have read Fatal Alliance, which I
- 23:10Speaker 2: believe you can listen to on our Patreon my review
- 23:17Speaker 2: of that. If not, I apologize, but I'm pretty certain
- 23:21Speaker 2: that review is on there. So I have liked his
- 23:25Speaker 2: Star Wars books because Horce Heretic is some of my
- 23:27Speaker 2: favorite out of the New Jedi Order. Who am I kidding?
- 23:30Speaker 2: The whole New Jedi Order series is like peak Star
- 23:34Speaker 2: Wars for me. I know that's a hot take, Clay,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you wouldn't understand why it's a hot take. But that's
- 23:41Speaker 2: a hot take for Star Wars fans.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Okay, But.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So I've read some of his stuff and I really
- 23:49Speaker 2: enjoyed it. This novelization was released August nineteenth, two thousand
- 23:54Speaker 2: and eight. It spent one week as number one on
- 23:58Speaker 2: both Publishers Weekly and the New New York Times Hardcover
- 24:01Speaker 2: Fiction bestsellers list, and slipped to number seven and number
- 24:06Speaker 2: nine the following week. It also reached number fifteen on
- 24:10Speaker 2: USA Today's Bestsellers List. So it did hit that. Oh
- 24:15Speaker 2: we're Star Wars, Oh we're popular. Oh it's a video game,
- 24:18Speaker 2: like it has been.
- 24:19Speaker 3: An immediately fell down though that's the thing.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Which most people don't stay in the top ten.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Oh okay, Like it's.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Like it's like if you get good word of mouth, sure,
- 24:33Speaker 2: but like Rebecca Yars, for instance, has been on the
- 24:37Speaker 2: best sellers list for New York Times for the Fourth
- 24:40Speaker 2: Wing series for like a year and a half straight.
- 24:44Speaker 2: That's rare. That doesn't happen most of the time. You
- 24:49Speaker 2: get two.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Desperate to try to get me to read Fourth Wing.
- 24:53Speaker 3: By the way, people we have we have a little
- 24:55Speaker 3: wager going on for outside of this podcast, and it
- 25:01Speaker 3: looks like I might be having to read the book.
- 25:03Speaker 2: But that wasn't why I brought it up. I just
- 25:07Speaker 2: know that because like, she sold more books for the
- 25:11Speaker 2: Onyx Storm release, and she beat the top movie at
- 25:17Speaker 2: the box office that week with how much money she
- 25:20Speaker 2: made off.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Honest, that's insane.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it is the best selling young adult new adult
- 25:28Speaker 2: book in twenty years basically since Harry Potter.
- 25:32Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Yeah, So.
- 25:37Speaker 2: That's why I brought up because I had those numbers
- 25:39Speaker 2: in my head from So tell.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Me other than just like screaming adaptation. You have these
- 25:51Speaker 3: characters in this book. You have Star Killer, you have
- 25:54Speaker 3: the the staple droid of you know, the android that
- 26:00Speaker 3: every story story needs. It's like, hey, we're going to
- 26:03Speaker 3: create this this character for everybody to love. So you
- 26:06Speaker 3: have Proxy.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Then you have characters like Juno and of course your
- 26:13Speaker 3: your staple characters that are lingering without throughout the story,
- 26:17Speaker 3: like Darth Vader. So tell me with with somebody like
- 26:22Speaker 3: Vader being somewhat in the limelight of this book, why.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Did it not carry this.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Star Wars nuance for you?
- 26:33Speaker 2: And we're about to jump into our third ad, y'all,
- 26:37Speaker 2: we promise we'll be right back, we promise, And this
- 26:41Speaker 2: is This is probably my biggest thing is I chose
- 26:45Speaker 2: to listen to this book instead of physically read it,
- 26:49Speaker 2: even though I have the copy. I've just been super
- 26:53Speaker 2: busy and was like, Okay, I'm gonna listen to it,
- 26:55Speaker 2: and I put on my planner. I've been trying to
- 26:57Speaker 2: use my planner more and I said, okay, Wednesday, Thursday
- 27:01Speaker 2: of last week, I was going to do a quick
- 27:03Speaker 2: listen to the book and then the rest of the
- 27:06Speaker 2: time I was going to break it down chapter by
- 27:09Speaker 2: like basically do like eight chapters a day. Basically I
- 27:14Speaker 2: never I got through my first listen three hours ago.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Here's here's here's the thing. I get you.
- 27:27Speaker 3: And Star Wars Audible. If you're listening, I'm telling you
- 27:34Speaker 3: now you messed up on this Essential Legends collection Audible. Yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 3: you have Sam Whittwor right there.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And I think that's the problem.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Is this book this is a Thompson story, right, Is
- 27:56Speaker 3: this a.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Mark Thompson narrated And I don't I don't blame Thompson
- 28:01Speaker 2: at all. I think this was like very early on
- 28:04Speaker 2: when he was starting recording for Star Wars, so he
- 28:07Speaker 2: didn't quite have the majesty he has with Cannon Books.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Well, is this is this an old rendition?
- 28:15Speaker 2: Yes, so I I'm pretty certain. Let me look because
- 28:23Speaker 2: I have audible right here, because I still had it
- 28:26Speaker 2: pulled up. Oh no, apparently this came out in November. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 2: I really thought for some reason, I really thought it
- 28:40Speaker 2: had come out with the original release. So yes, you
- 28:43Speaker 2: have had Sam Whitwerd do the voice on.
- 28:49Speaker 4: There is there.
- 28:52Speaker 3: That's what made me so mad when I first started
- 28:55Speaker 3: listening to this book.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Let me see, unless he just had a really crappy experience.
- 29:02Speaker 2: But I mean he's narrated shadow Hunter for the Central
- 29:07Speaker 2: Legends collection. He has done stories of Jedi and Sith.
- 29:12Speaker 2: He's done from a certain point of view, Return of
- 29:14Speaker 2: the Jedi, from a certain point of view, The Empire
- 29:17Speaker 2: strikes back. That's all the Star Wars stuff he's done.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And blown away. Why you wouldn't get I'm wondering if
- 29:31Speaker 2: like schedules didn't work out or something.
- 29:34Speaker 3: And maybe it was the money, like I like, we
- 29:37Speaker 3: we don't know, but in my mind there is. Guys,
- 29:43Speaker 3: there is a SoundBite on social media, on TikTok, on reels,
- 29:50Speaker 3: on YouTube shorts. You hear you hear the saying you
- 29:53Speaker 3: hear the voice line you agreed to stay away, and then.
- 29:56Speaker 4: You hear Darth Vader's voice.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I lie like there's been so many memes out of that.
- 30:03Speaker 3: That is the first part is Sam Whitwer's voice. When
- 30:07Speaker 3: I heard that same exact line here, I didn't feel it.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I didn't feel it.
- 30:13Speaker 2: And so the one I had in my head that
- 30:16Speaker 2: was an older rendition is actually the Force Unleash two,
- 30:22Speaker 2: which is narrated by Jonathan Davis, and that came out
- 30:27Speaker 2: in twenty ten October twenty ten, and it is the
- 30:32Speaker 2: houn A Bridge is listed as the Houto Bridge the
- 30:33Speaker 2: audio book. So that's the one I had in my head.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I will tell you this Forced Unleashed Too is being released.
- 30:42Speaker 3: We technically have it right now.
- 30:47Speaker 2: We planned because the Essentral Legends collection released on February
- 30:53Speaker 2: fourth for the Forest Leach Too.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Yeah, so uh, we will most likely be h it's
- 31:02Speaker 3: it's on our schedule to talk about Forced Unleashed Too.
- 31:07Speaker 3: I don't know if we will like it more or
- 31:09Speaker 3: less than this. I have not played the game, so
- 31:13Speaker 3: it's gonna be very different for me actually listening to
- 31:16Speaker 3: something that I have zero experience on. This will be
- 31:19Speaker 3: like this will legitimately be like reading a Legends book
- 31:22Speaker 3: like I've normally done.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think probably before we do The Force
- 31:28Speaker 2: Unleashed too, I will read, I will reread The Force Unleashed,
- 31:33Speaker 2: but I will read the physical copy.
- 31:36Speaker 3: I will also hunt down a proper well cut video
- 31:44Speaker 3: of all the cut scenes and story for the actual
- 31:48Speaker 3: game so you can watch, because that is the proper
- 31:52Speaker 3: way to experience the force of.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I see because I went to look for that and
- 31:56Speaker 2: then I was like, no, this is the novelization review
- 32:00Speaker 2: we need. I need to go based off of the
- 32:03Speaker 2: book and not introduce the game at this point. So
- 32:11Speaker 2: I definitely I think now that I know this is
- 32:16Speaker 2: like a November twenty twenty four release for audiobook, this
- 32:21Speaker 2: is probably one of Mark Thompson's weakest books for Star
- 32:25Speaker 2: Wars point blank. And I love Mark Thompson. We talked
- 32:29Speaker 2: about him in depth last week. I just had a
- 32:34Speaker 2: lot of issues paying attention, and I rewound and rewound
- 32:39Speaker 2: and rebound. I think I rebound like probably seven or
- 32:41Speaker 2: eight times, which is not good for me because like
- 32:46Speaker 2: I typically listen to new reads on one point five speed,
- 32:50Speaker 2: like and I get the plotline of the book I
- 32:55Speaker 2: had to go through and read the Wikipedia. I said
- 32:58Speaker 2: I was going to leave it to the book, but
- 32:59Speaker 2: I had to go read the Wikipedia to make sure
- 33:02Speaker 2: that I had the plot in my head. Yeah, because
- 33:05Speaker 2: I was just like, what did I just read? And
- 33:08Speaker 2: like I started this on Wednesday last week and just
- 33:11Speaker 2: have struggled to get through it because I just take
- 33:15Speaker 2: a listen to it and I'm like, nah, like I had.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I've typically sit here and crochet, y'all, Like that's what
- 33:22Speaker 2: I've been doing the past couple of weeks. But like,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I couldn't even crochet listening to this. I had to
- 33:27Speaker 2: sit and twiddle my thumbs if I wanted to listen
- 33:30Speaker 2: to anything and get it in. So that's on me
- 33:36Speaker 2: for not getting in for not making sure that I
- 33:39Speaker 2: got a physical read of the book, because I have
- 33:43Speaker 2: the book. I just I've been so busy that like
- 33:47Speaker 2: I needed the audiobook to work and I can typically
- 33:50Speaker 2: work and do all the things. So maybe that's a
- 33:53Speaker 2: critique on the production of the book as an audiobook
- 33:57Speaker 2: instead of the actual critique of the book. But it
- 34:01Speaker 2: definitely the parts where I was getting it it still
- 34:05Speaker 2: read well novelization without a whole lot of extra detail. Again,
- 34:10Speaker 2: I haven't played the game, so I don't know which
- 34:12Speaker 2: details are in the game and which are not well.
- 34:16Speaker 4: And that's the thing.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Also, like you saying that, oh, you know, you felt
- 34:22Speaker 3: forced to have to listen to the book rather than
- 34:25Speaker 3: read it. People just listen to books like that is
- 34:30Speaker 3: there's sometimes they're one and only experience with it. And
- 34:33Speaker 3: so I feel like people like, who's the publisher on this, It's.
- 34:41Speaker 2: The Random House Worlds.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Random House Worlds needs to be putting into their production, like, hey,
- 34:49Speaker 3: this needs to be top notch. And with this, I
- 34:52Speaker 3: just didn't feel it. And I know that we are
- 34:55Speaker 3: kind of just talking about our experience with the book.
- 34:58Speaker 3: If you have never read this book, think of it
- 35:01Speaker 3: this way. It is about a secret apprentice that Vader has,
- 35:09Speaker 3: and it is essentially.
- 35:11Speaker 4: A Star Wars what if? On what if.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Darth Vader had an apprentice and the apprentice created the
- 35:22Speaker 3: Rebel alliance. That is essentially what this is, because that's
- 35:27Speaker 3: what his mission is. When in the very beginning of
- 35:32Speaker 3: the book or near the beginning of the book, star
- 35:36Speaker 3: Killer is found by Palpatine and Vader is forced to
- 35:42Speaker 3: fake star Killer's death and say, hey, we had to
- 35:47Speaker 3: do this because Palpatine wouldn't have let you live, so
- 35:51Speaker 3: I had to quote unquote kill you. I brought you
- 35:54Speaker 3: back to life. But now we have this mission of
- 35:59Speaker 3: gather all of Palpatine's biggest enemies and take him down,
- 36:04Speaker 3: and while they're distracted, we will kill the emperor and
- 36:09Speaker 3: we will take over the galaxy. Is essentially Vader's plan.
- 36:13Speaker 3: It gets turned on its head. There's so many other
- 36:16Speaker 3: things that happen. I would like for you guys to
- 36:18Speaker 3: actually experience it yourself, whether that be in this novelization
- 36:24Speaker 3: or in the actual game. I think it is an
- 36:27Speaker 3: interesting enough story because we don't have a lot of
- 36:32Speaker 3: these what ifs in Star Wars, and this one I
- 36:36Speaker 3: genuinely think is fun. But yeah, I just didn't have
- 36:42Speaker 3: a lot of fun with this novelization because I wanted
- 36:47Speaker 3: to hear Sam Whitward's voice.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and that my pain expectation that we had. I
- 36:54Speaker 2: knew it wasn't Sam wit Word, though. I was disappointed
- 36:57Speaker 2: in that aspect because I feel like he's continuously gone
- 37:01Speaker 2: back to this character and then like this was my
- 37:03Speaker 2: Star Wars beginning, Like, yes, he's gone on to voice
- 37:08Speaker 2: other characters and everything, but this character has always particularly
- 37:12Speaker 2: meant a lot to him, so to have him not
- 37:15Speaker 2: come back, and I know they've like tried to coordinate
- 37:18Speaker 2: schedules before with actors like do voice it to do
- 37:22Speaker 2: the voice recordings for these books. So I'm sure that's
- 37:28Speaker 2: something along the lines of what happened here. But it
- 37:33Speaker 2: might be cool because the twentieth anniversary is in two
- 37:36Speaker 2: years for this book, because this was released September sixteenth,
- 37:39Speaker 2: two thousand, I.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Would love for them to do a new edition.
- 37:44Speaker 2: It might be really cool to do a new audition.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Well, just because like Whitber's voice for Star Killer was
- 37:53Speaker 3: a little gravelly. He like he just had that like angry,
- 37:57Speaker 3: gravelly voice, and Mark Thompson's voice for star Killer in
- 38:04Speaker 3: this book was way too soft, And the only time
- 38:08Speaker 3: you really had those attempts at a gravelly voice was
- 38:12Speaker 3: when he was exerting himself during an action scene.
- 38:17Speaker 4: You know.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Okay, I understand that, but I'm not really for it,
- 38:22Speaker 3: you know. So Yeah, Random House, Star Wars, if you're listening,
- 38:33Speaker 3: please we would love to hear Sam wit We're come
- 38:38Speaker 3: back as star Killer please.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'll be interested to see. I will definitely
- 38:44Speaker 2: be rereading it physically before we do Force Unleash two
- 38:49Speaker 2: because I feel like I from what I got of Juneo,
- 38:53Speaker 2: I really enjoyed Juno as a character.
- 38:57Speaker 4: She I do like her.
- 39:00Speaker 3: She has a lot of conflicting emotions throughout this story,
- 39:04Speaker 3: but that's what this whole story is about. Everybody has
- 39:06Speaker 3: conflicting emotions and I and I think the only one
- 39:12Speaker 3: who doesn't is up until the very end, is Proxy
- 39:15Speaker 3: because he's a droid and he.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Has one mission.
- 39:19Speaker 3: I love Proxy because his one mission is to kill
- 39:23Speaker 3: star Killer. He's like, yeah, one day, I'm gonna be
- 39:26Speaker 3: good enough to kill you, and that's my mission. And
- 39:30Speaker 3: it's more so to keep star Killer on his feet,
- 39:33Speaker 3: to keep him constantly training.
- 39:37Speaker 4: It's really fun.
- 39:38Speaker 3: The reason why his name is Proxy is because he
- 39:41Speaker 3: can transform. Like with holograms, he can transform into almost anybody.
- 39:47Speaker 3: As long as his data files have some sort of
- 39:51Speaker 3: memory bake of whoever he's trying to copy, he will
- 39:56Speaker 3: have it. And it's really fun because you get to
- 39:58Speaker 3: have these moments where some really famous Jedi pop up
- 40:04Speaker 3: out of nowhere and it is a lot of fun.
- 40:07Speaker 3: But it's it's again, like Katie says, and we don't
- 40:11Speaker 3: want to beat a dead Horse. It's just this story
- 40:14Speaker 3: is very streamlined and unfortunately kind of flat because it
- 40:20Speaker 3: is stuck to the confines of what the game was.
- 40:27Speaker 3: I will go ahead and tell you Katie and I again,
- 40:31Speaker 3: I don't know how this book ends because twelve minutes left.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I'll finish it probably tonight. But the really cool thing
- 40:41Speaker 3: about this game is that at one point you get
- 40:46Speaker 3: to decide are you going to stay with the Rebel
- 40:49Speaker 3: alliance or are you going to stay on the side
- 40:52Speaker 3: of dove Vader. So that is what I like, I
- 40:58Speaker 3: would love and that's kind of when I when I
- 40:59Speaker 3: saw that the last chapter was an hour, I was like,
- 41:02Speaker 3: hold up, does it end on chapter thirty seven? And
- 41:06Speaker 3: then thirty eight is just like a like, oh, but
- 41:09Speaker 3: this is what would have happened if Start Killing decided
- 41:13Speaker 3: like I would love more books to do that type of.
- 41:16Speaker 4: Thing, but I don't.
- 41:18Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Uh, So.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I don't want to spoil it for you, but I'm
- 41:24Speaker 2: going to spoil it for you anyways, because I feel
- 41:26Speaker 2: like this is kind of relevant.
- 41:28Speaker 3: I know the story, so you can't surprise me.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess that's true. So it chooses.
- 41:36Speaker 5: Uh, the book sticks with the light side aspect of it,
- 41:44Speaker 5: and I thought, okay, because I have the Wikipedia pulled
- 41:47Speaker 5: up in front of me, so the book sticks with
- 41:49Speaker 5: the light side.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Uh, going to the rebellion part of things the dark side.
- 41:58Speaker 2: I thought there was something in here that said that
- 42:02Speaker 2: the dark side aspect is one of the visions that
- 42:05Speaker 2: he has, but I'm missing that. Okay, so never mind.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah. So, And another reason why this can never be
- 42:12Speaker 3: Cannon is because when you choose to be on the
- 42:18Speaker 3: Dark Side in the game, there is an expansion pack
- 42:22Speaker 3: that you can purchase where your missions are to kill Luke, Skywalker, Han, Solo, Chewbacca,
- 42:31Speaker 3: and Lea.
- 42:33Speaker 4: So take that as you.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Will, like interesting yea, like it's it's it can't be Cannon.
- 42:43Speaker 3: And I know a lot of people want it to
- 42:45Speaker 3: be Cannon, and I would love for them to have
- 42:50Speaker 3: their cake and eat it too. I think you can
- 42:54Speaker 3: make star Killer Cannon. You just can't make him as
- 42:59Speaker 3: power full as he.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Was correct in his story inquisitors.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, he he could essentially. That was why
- 43:10Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure we talked about it during the Ahsoka
- 43:14Speaker 3: like hype in the trailers, it's like, oh, that's star Killer,
- 43:17Speaker 3: He's stark Killer.
- 43:18Speaker 4: That's gonna be him, Oh my god. And I think that.
- 43:26Speaker 3: In due time we will either get an animated Forced
- 43:34Speaker 3: Unleashed or something like It's it's only a matter of time.
- 43:41Speaker 2: It would be really cool because I know this video
- 43:43Speaker 2: game was super popular, and it makes sense, it really does,
- 43:47Speaker 2: because this is one of like the first big Star
- 43:50Speaker 2: Wars video games, Like I know you had that'll come
- 43:52Speaker 2: in later, but I would consider Force Unleashed to be
- 43:55Speaker 2: one of the most popular video games for Star Wars.
- 44:02Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, artering its legacy completely makes sense.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Mm hmm, yep, I agree, But I think that is it,
- 44:16Speaker 3: yes for this show tonight. So guys, I just want
- 44:20Speaker 3: to thank you guys so much for being here and
- 44:22Speaker 3: lasting this long. If you would like to follow me
- 44:28Speaker 3: on any and all social media, mostly boot Blue Sky
- 44:31Speaker 3: these days, I am surprisingly scrolling through reels nowadays because
- 44:38Speaker 3: Abby is on Instagram and I'm sharing reels. I've shared
- 44:42Speaker 3: a couple of reels to Katie. I'm slowly finding my
- 44:45Speaker 3: way into book Graham.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Is that is that books?
- 44:51Speaker 3: Bookstagram? Okay, I I feel like a boomer now, I'm like,
- 44:55Speaker 3: what what are you.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Kids calling it? These days?
- 45:00Speaker 2: My mom has sent me seven reels today, you want
