- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, Happy Tuesday. Welcome. I've already been up for
- 0:13Speaker 2: six hours. The headlines are brought you by Frostby Corps
- 0:17Speaker 2: like Choose Chill. Seahawks Training Camp Day eight yesterday, biggest
- 0:20Speaker 2: and best day yet for rookie safety Bud Clark, first
- 0:23Speaker 2: team defense of the deep safety next to Julian Love,
- 0:26Speaker 2: also in the Nick Emon Worry hybrid linebacker role. You're
- 0:29Speaker 2: here from coach Mike McDonald on what he's doing with
- 0:31Speaker 2: Clark here later on in the show. Potentially some bad
- 0:35Speaker 2: news for the team coming on fullback root Robbie Oots.
- 0:38Speaker 2: He's missed the last two practices. Of course, you remember
- 0:41Speaker 2: he missed the last two games was rookie season last
- 0:43Speaker 2: winter with a neck injury. This was what Mike McDonald
- 0:45Speaker 2: said about Oots yesterday. We haven't seen Robby Oots out
- 0:48Speaker 2: there the days.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, to say like we're look, we're gonna try to
- 0:55Speaker 3: find some more information with with Robbie situation. Some I'll
- 1:00Speaker 3: just leave it at that right now, but we'll have
- 1:01Speaker 3: an update for you sooner than later.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Well, that sounds ominous first episode of Seahawks Training Camp
- 1:09Speaker 2: Hard Knocks tonight six pm if you have HBO Max
- 1:12Speaker 2: to stream at nine pm R Time on HBO Cable TV.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I have a story up at the Newstribune dot com
- 1:18Speaker 2: and with Sam Darnold, Mike McDonald and more. The Seahawks
- 1:20Speaker 2: are saying about it. We'll talk about that later in
- 1:22Speaker 2: the show. Mares come back to action tonight host the
- 1:25Speaker 2: Tigers in a three game set that begins at the
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yard in Soto. Emerson Hancock versus what was to have
- 1:31Speaker 2: been Trek scoobl spot in the Tigers rotation. They have
- 1:34Speaker 2: an officially said it's going to start for him. Schooble
- 1:37Speaker 2: now is going to start for the Dodgers against the
- 1:39Speaker 2: Cubs tonight. He just got traded to La. Of course,
- 1:43Speaker 2: EMS made one move on it Major League Baseball trade
- 1:45Speaker 2: deadline day with Baltimore to acquire Outfreder Taylor Ward. The
- 1:49Speaker 2: EMS gave up Alex Hoppy, two minor leaguers not on
- 1:52Speaker 2: the top prospects of its brock board. Harrison priling to Baltimore.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Ward's thirty two years old. He's a rental. He's on
- 1:58Speaker 2: a one year proven deal twelve million dollar with Baltimore.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The Mariners will pick up a pro ration of that
- 2:03Speaker 2: thirty six home runs last year for the Angels. Now
- 2:05Speaker 2: he's an on base guy, leads the league in walks,
- 2:08Speaker 2: got like an over four on basis three against lefties
- 2:11Speaker 2: right handed bat the Mariners needed. His on base percentage
- 2:14Speaker 2: already is like way ahead of anybody in the Mariners lineup.
- 2:17Speaker 2: He might be the leadoff better Tonight, MARRINERGS GM Justin
- 2:20Speaker 2: Hollander told the team's flagshit radio station Luke Rayley's likely
- 2:23Speaker 2: out for the season, another reason they got Ward. The
- 2:26Speaker 2: Mariners are three games under five hundred and a half
- 2:29Speaker 2: games out of first place in the AOS before the
- 2:31Speaker 2: series with Detroit Tonight. Tigers are five and a half
- 2:34Speaker 2: back in the wildcar Race. Storm lost their eighth straight
- 2:37Speaker 2: game at the New York Liberty yesterday, and this morning,
- 2:40Speaker 2: the Atlanta Falcons signed quarter running back Bijon Robinson to
- 2:44Speaker 2: a three year, seventy five million dollar contract extension that
- 2:48Speaker 2: resets the running back market in the league. Now on
- 2:51Speaker 2: with the Tuesday Show, Some McIntyre back in the studios
- 2:54Speaker 2: and Elliott ban Seattle. Greg Bell here on ninety three
- 2:56Speaker 2: point three KJRFMS we are every ten am to noon
- 2:59Speaker 2: on every weekday. Good morning, jess.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Man, Good morning.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Yeah again when you mentioned the smoke, our hearts go
- 3:05Speaker 5: out to everyone in the eastern side of the state.
- 3:09Speaker 5: You know, I was speaking to people with you need
- 3:11Speaker 5: Way for my weekend show Seattle Boys, And there's a
- 3:15Speaker 5: lot of kind of because Spokane is such a big
- 3:18Speaker 5: area forgotten towns that are also being throttled by this,
- 3:22Speaker 5: and we want to know our hearts are out with everyone.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Mead Shealanne, Yep, nine Mile Creek.
- 3:28Speaker 4: It's Zakama.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's it's man. It's the way of the
- 3:33Speaker 2: world here every summer. But wow, then yeah, echo what
- 3:37Speaker 2: Jessamine said. Good luck to everybody. They are on the
- 3:40Speaker 2: east side out here today they're going to be probably
- 3:44Speaker 2: in full path. Yesterday they were in shells and shorts,
- 3:46Speaker 2: which surprised me. After a day off Sunday, they didn't
- 3:49Speaker 2: have practice, and then they came back yesterday somewhat lighter.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's practices are long. They're longer this year than
- 3:56Speaker 2: they were in the first two camps. They were almost
- 3:58Speaker 2: three hours again yesterday. They were almost three hours on Saturday.
- 4:01Speaker 2: But a lot of them is slow pace walking through
- 4:06Speaker 2: the installation. They're doing a lot of the installing of
- 4:08Speaker 2: the playbook right now. The meat of it, they go
- 4:12Speaker 2: fast and normal speed when it's plays they know base things,
- 4:17Speaker 2: but when they're installing in new things on offense and defense,
- 4:21Speaker 2: they go slow. They walk through, and there's a large
- 4:24Speaker 2: portion of practices an hour or so that is in
- 4:27Speaker 2: a walk pace that there isn't a whole lot of competition.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It's a ton of learning going on. That's different. I
- 4:33Speaker 2: asked McDonald about that yesterday and he said, yeah, we're
- 4:35Speaker 2: still trying to perfect that. And he basically said I've learning,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I'm evolving from the first year to now, and that
- 4:43Speaker 2: he did a lot of things wrong in the first
- 4:44Speaker 2: training camp that he wanted to correct and he thought
- 4:46Speaker 2: the teaching part on the field is more meaningful than
- 4:49Speaker 2: the whiteboard. That's why the CX have been going almost
- 4:51Speaker 2: three hours at times. It's not physically pounding. I think
- 4:55Speaker 2: these testing their mental conditioning as well as their physical odor.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Well, it chose to be a big part of the game.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. And if you don't know the offensive defense,
- 5:04Speaker 2: you can't play. So they're taking their time and walking
- 5:07Speaker 2: through the new stuff and there's a lot of new
- 5:09Speaker 2: stuff going in right now. Also, new rookie Bud Clark
- 5:12Speaker 2: makes his move. We'll talk about that on the show today.
- 5:15Speaker 2: He's now in the starting defense, or at least splitting
- 5:17Speaker 2: time at the starting defense in two different roles. We'll
- 5:20Speaker 2: talk about the second round pick from TCU making a
- 5:22Speaker 2: move there in the starters. Ten twenty or so, We're
- 5:25Speaker 2: gonna talk to Gary Hill Junior, the Mariners broadcaster play
- 5:28Speaker 2: by play on radio, about this somewhat tweaked marrion, not
- 5:31Speaker 2: brand new Mariners, but somewhat tweaked. They've got a right
- 5:34Speaker 2: handed bat, Taylor Ward, arriving tonight. Assumingly he's going to
- 5:37Speaker 2: be in the lineup after arriving from Baltimore in the
- 5:39Speaker 2: trade yesterday on the off day. They got a new
- 5:42Speaker 2: bullpen arms, Sir Anthony Dominguez, who was with Toronto and
- 5:45Speaker 2: the Alcs against the Mariners last year and then was
- 5:47Speaker 2: the White Sox closer to begin the season. You heard
- 5:49Speaker 2: us talk to Scott Murkin yesterday, the White Sox beat
- 5:52Speaker 2: writer from MLB dot Com, saying that Sir Anthony Dimingez
- 5:56Speaker 2: has gotten a lot better since they took him out
- 5:57Speaker 2: of the closer role about a month or so ago,
- 6:00Speaker 2: and he's pitched really well the last few weeks, he'll
- 6:03Speaker 2: most likely slot into that type of a primary setup role.
- 6:07Speaker 2: He instantly, Jesmine. Interestingly, he interestingly instantly becomes the highest
- 6:11Speaker 2: paid reliever of the Maroons have ever had. He's making
- 6:13Speaker 2: ten million a year two years million dollars. So your
- 6:17Speaker 2: highest paid reliever is going to be your primary setup
- 6:19Speaker 2: guy for all star closer Andres Munos now at ten.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Forty pretty good.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah that and if he's right, I mean, there's a
- 6:28Speaker 2: reason he's earning twenty million dollars in two years. When
- 6:31Speaker 2: he's right, he's one of the better setup guys in
- 6:33Speaker 2: the America League. Ten forty five, you'll hear from Sam Darnold,
- 6:36Speaker 2: the quarterback for the Seahawks, about what he likes about
- 6:38Speaker 2: all the hard knocks, cameras and microphones all over the
- 6:41Speaker 2: Seahawks training camp. First episode is tonight. So how it
- 6:44Speaker 2: works is if you have HBO Max and stream it
- 6:46Speaker 2: on your phone or your iPad or whatever the heck
- 6:48Speaker 2: you guys gals stream.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Some people even do it on their television.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Ooh, he sounds like advanced. That's really advanced. If you
- 6:56Speaker 2: have Roku and Kuro and whatever, and you can do
- 7:00Speaker 2: it at six o'clock live as it's being shown on
- 7:02Speaker 2: the East Coast HBO. If you don't have all those
- 7:05Speaker 2: streaming gizmos, then if you just have regular cable TV
- 7:09Speaker 2: like a Neanderthal, I guess I got.
- 7:12Speaker 5: You stands on that hill too.
- 7:15Speaker 4: You're not alone.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I know. Used to be cable was cutting edge, and
- 7:19Speaker 2: now you're considered a throwback if you have cable television.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So if you're a cable guy and you have HBO,
- 7:24Speaker 2: you can see it at nine o'clock tonight our time.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And the Seahawks have been talking about that the last
- 7:29Speaker 2: few days. There's a lot the news tribute. I put
- 7:31Speaker 2: this story up this morning about their thoughts about it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Some of them are indifferent already and say that they
- 7:37Speaker 2: don't even notice it, but they were preening for the
- 7:39Speaker 2: cameras the first week or so. That's kind of cut
- 7:41Speaker 2: down a little bit lately.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Well, and we're going to hear from Sam Darnold about
- 7:44Speaker 5: it too in about a half an hour, Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And ten at eleven o'clock, forty five minutes, fifty minutes
- 7:51Speaker 2: or so. No, it beIN Ogamy's going to join us.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Sit down and talk to the veteran cornerback who is
- 7:57Speaker 2: here playing nickel He started playing when he got to
- 8:01Speaker 2: the NFL. He didn't start playing cornerback until his year
- 8:04Speaker 2: or so into his time at Auburn University. In the SEC,
- 8:06Speaker 2: he was a right wide receiver. Then now he's a
- 8:10Speaker 2: nickel corner. Mike McDonald talked to me yesterday about Igmanominy
- 8:14Speaker 2: and the fact that they think he can play inside
- 8:17Speaker 2: as well as the outside corner that he used to
- 8:18Speaker 2: be a starter for the Washington Commanders in Miami Dolphins. Man,
- 8:22Speaker 2: does he love him some, Dan Quinn. You'll hear why.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You will hear why he really likes, I mean almost
- 8:30Speaker 2: loves the defensive coordinator, former defensive coordinator for the Seahawks,
- 8:34Speaker 2: of course, now the Washington Commander's head coach. And you'll
- 8:37Speaker 2: hear from Noah Iggmanogamy. Both of his parents are Nigerian Olympians.
- 8:43Speaker 2: His mother was on the Nigerian Olympic four by four
- 8:46Speaker 2: hundred meter relay team at the nineteen ninety two Barcelona Games.
- 8:49Speaker 2: His father, no Igbanogamy's father was on the long jumping
- 8:53Speaker 2: triple jump team from Nigeria. Their native country in the
- 8:56Speaker 2: ninety six Games in Atlanta. In fact, no Ignanogameny was
- 9:00Speaker 2: a track athlete in the long jump and triple jump
- 9:02Speaker 2: like his dad at Auburn. You gotta be pretty good
- 9:05Speaker 2: to do sec track and football at the same time.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, you'd think that is a primetime athlete right there.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, he's pretty athletic, and they like him. They need
- 9:15Speaker 2: a veteran presence in the secondary after the departure some
- 9:18Speaker 2: of the departures Kobe Bryant Requill And by the way,
- 9:21Speaker 2: we mentioned Kobe Bryant during the show yesterday going down
- 9:23Speaker 2: yesterday morning in practice and not being very it looked bad. Well,
- 9:29Speaker 2: it is pretty not season ending, but it's bad. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 2: eight to ten weeks, so he, on the plus side,
- 9:37Speaker 2: might get back late October early November for the Bears.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Of course, the Bears come in to Loomenfield to play
- 9:44Speaker 2: the Seahawks in a Monday night game in early November,
- 9:46Speaker 2: and that might be a target date for Kobe Bryant
- 9:48Speaker 2: to come back from his knee injury. Yesterday in Bear's
- 9:51Speaker 2: training camp, he's going to be out at least eight
- 9:53Speaker 2: to ten weeks as the estimation.
- 9:55Speaker 5: I hope he makes it bad for that and maybe
- 9:57Speaker 5: that's a motivation, you know.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm sure he would love to be back for obviously
- 10:02Speaker 2: would love to be back for that game, So that
- 10:03Speaker 2: could be a target date for him. After you hear
- 10:06Speaker 2: from No Eggmanogamy eleven thirty, you talk your text your
- 10:09Speaker 2: talkbacks Takoma Dodge Text nine four nine four five one,
- 10:13Speaker 2: or the talkbacks are on the iHeartRadio app or nine
- 10:15Speaker 2: through three KGr dot com. Jessmin McIntyre loves talkbacks so sentimental.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I love your voices, I really do. I like people
- 10:24Speaker 4: to be a part of the show too.
- 10:26Speaker 2: And you put on people singing, it doesn't matter. You
- 10:28Speaker 2: could put any voice. She's gonna put it on there.
- 10:30Speaker 2: If it's got your foot.
- 10:31Speaker 4: They'll get very creative with the talkbacks.
- 10:33Speaker 5: And if you don't know how it works, just hit
- 10:34Speaker 5: that little red microphone at the top of the iHeart

- 11:39Speaker 5: do so. So if you're driving and hearing this, don't

- 11:45Speaker 5: pull over, get to your place wherever you are traveling.

- 11:52Speaker 5: the ten o'clock our word, jessamin.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's not as literal as I am and doesn't spell
- 11:57Speaker 2: it out for.
- 11:57Speaker 4: You, but no, sometimes you should know how to spell that.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You don't deserve.
- 12:00Speaker 5: I'm not giving I'm not giving a thousand dollars to
- 12:03Speaker 5: someone who doesn't know it. A spell bank and put
- 12:05Speaker 5: it in your bank.
- 12:07Speaker 2: The website, not on the text line, please on the website.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Nine two three KGr doc comment of the word bank.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Seahawks eighth practice yesterday. Bud Clark's big day. What he
- 12:17Speaker 2: did was he was in the hybrid safety linebacker spot
- 12:21Speaker 2: that of course Nick even wore started as a rookie
- 12:24Speaker 2: last year. In fact, they're giving him the even worri
- 12:28Speaker 2: treatment in this camp. They're just fire hosing him. The
- 12:31Speaker 2: coaches are as much as Bud Clark can handle, just
- 12:33Speaker 2: like they did Eman Worriy last summer. And even worri
- 12:37Speaker 2: proved that he can handle just everything and he became
- 12:38Speaker 2: a dynamic one of the more dynamic players in the
- 12:40Speaker 2: NFL and defense doing that, well, they're trying the same
- 12:44Speaker 2: thing with Bud Clark. This was Mike McDonald yesterday talk
- 12:46Speaker 2: about his rookie from TCU.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Well, uh, Bud's one of those rookies that are that's.
- 12:51Speaker 3: We're asking a lot of them right now, and I'm
- 12:53Speaker 3: really impressed with how he's handling it. There's there's things
- 12:56Speaker 3: there's it's not perfect, but how he goes about his
- 13:01Speaker 3: business is what we're looking for. And I think he
- 13:03Speaker 3: needs to trust that he's gonna come out of the fog,
- 13:07Speaker 3: you know, and take it from there. But I think
- 13:12Speaker 3: it's important to start building a relationship with those guys
- 13:14Speaker 3: and having a feel for, you know, the speed of
- 13:17Speaker 3: the game with the ones and how he communicate and
- 13:19Speaker 3: how we play.
- 13:20Speaker 2: And he's doing a good job, so that's an advancement.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I had not seen Bud Clark in that hybrid role
- 13:27Speaker 2: until yesterday. In eleven on eleven's the first week of camp,
- 13:31Speaker 2: he was decidedly on the second team, barely playing in
- 13:33Speaker 2: the first team at all, and when he did play briefly,
- 13:35Speaker 2: he was in prefend defense as a deep safety. He
- 13:37Speaker 2: was also deep safety yesterday, alternating in with Tyakatta and
- 13:42Speaker 2: a line next to Julian Love, and he also took
- 13:46Speaker 2: out the Anthony Bell and alternated in with the veteran
- 13:48Speaker 2: who had been in that hybrid role of Even Warriors
- 13:51Speaker 2: for the first week or so. McDonald's update on Even
- 13:53Speaker 2: Warri was that things are positive, but nothing new. It's
- 13:57Speaker 2: a matter of weeks to weeks, not day to day
- 14:00Speaker 2: for even worry. I saw him out here Saturday. He
- 14:02Speaker 2: had a crutch that he wasn't quite using. He was
- 14:05Speaker 2: kind of propped up over his shoulder, and he had
- 14:07Speaker 2: a lower right ankle brace on a softer brace on
- 14:11Speaker 2: a black brace that you'd see guys sometimes wearing basketball
- 14:14Speaker 2: or whatnot. And he was signing autographs for fans. He
- 14:17Speaker 2: didn't look imminent like he's coming back, but it's there'll
- 14:20Speaker 2: still expectation is that he can play in the opener,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and in the meantime, Bud Clark is getting some of
- 14:26Speaker 2: his reps now for the first time, the second round
- 14:28Speaker 2: pick from TCU. Also the big news of yesterday that
- 14:31Speaker 2: I saw in practice. Sam Donald to Rashid Shaheed that
- 14:34Speaker 2: deep connection is working and it's so much smoother like
- 14:38Speaker 2: night and day compared to what it was last year
- 14:41Speaker 2: when she joined the team in November. And of course
- 14:43Speaker 2: it is right because he joined the team mid stream.
- 14:45Speaker 2: There were times last year that Donald just didn't throw
- 14:49Speaker 2: it to his speed and underthrew him. I remember the
- 14:51Speaker 2: NFC Championship game. The first two minutes of the game,
- 14:54Speaker 2: she he's blazing down the right sideline, beat Williams the
- 14:57Speaker 2: left corner for the Rams easy touchdown, but Donald underthrow
- 15:00Speaker 2: them and to be it was ended up being a
- 15:02Speaker 2: fifty one yard catch. But Donald and Shaheed spent time
- 15:07Speaker 2: this offseason between the mini camp in June and the
- 15:09Speaker 2: started training camp at the end of July back in
- 15:12Speaker 2: southern California where they're both from at Saddleback Junior College
- 15:15Speaker 2: in Mission Viehill, working out on the field with routes,
- 15:19Speaker 2: and of course Donald's just from down the road from
- 15:21Speaker 2: there in San Clemente, and Shahid is from even a
- 15:23Speaker 2: little further down the road in San Diego. And they
- 15:26Speaker 2: worked for those weeks, the six weeks that they were
- 15:28Speaker 2: off and you can see the connection is so much better.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And that is the Seahawks plan is to have Shaheed
- 15:35Speaker 2: taking tops off of defenses with Tory Horton on the
- 15:39Speaker 2: field at the same time. And when I brought that
- 15:41Speaker 2: up to McDonald, asking what kind of quandary that puts
- 15:43Speaker 2: a defense, and he said, of course it does with
- 15:45Speaker 2: the speed, but what we have to do on defense
- 15:48Speaker 2: on offense is stay balanced. We still have to block,
- 15:51Speaker 2: we still have to run the ball. When those two
- 15:53Speaker 2: were in the field in the same formation, McDonald's point
- 15:56Speaker 2: was we don't want to have defenses be able to
- 15:57Speaker 2: pigeonhole us, to say, all and Shaheeda on the field
- 16:02Speaker 2: at the same time they're going deep. He wants to
- 16:04Speaker 2: do other things to be the counter to when they
- 16:07Speaker 2: array those two speechers on the field at one time.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But that's the Seahawks plan under new offensive coordinator Brian Flurry.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That could be a new twist that the Seahawks didn't
- 16:15Speaker 2: get to enjoy last year, of course, because Horton missed
- 16:18Speaker 2: from November till the end four nine, four five one.
- 16:22Speaker 2: And Takumadad's text sign your excitement over Darnold and Shaheed's
- 16:26Speaker 2: connection and how different this offense can be this year
- 16:28Speaker 2: just with those two guys are on the field alone.
- 16:31Speaker 2: We'll read your text back at eleven thirty. Up next
- 16:33Speaker 2: to go Baseball, Gary Hill Junior, a great friend of ours,
- 16:35Speaker 2: Mariners broadcaster. He's gonna talk about how the Mariners are tweaked.
- 16:39Speaker 2: They're a lineup in their bullpen heading into the last
- 16:42Speaker 2: two months of the season. That's next on ninety three
- 16:44Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Welcome Back with Greg Bell's show. Is
- 17:03Speaker 2: Jessmin McIntire at the Seahawks Virginia Mason Athletics Center for
- 17:06Speaker 2: the ninth practice of Seahawks training camp. We have some
- 17:10Speaker 2: errata for you on the word we hear you on
- 17:12Speaker 2: the text line we see you and we hear you.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Yes, that's all me. That is we'll we'll take a
- 17:17Speaker 4: p No, it is on me. I was looking ahead.
- 17:20Speaker 5: So that's a hints to those who were saying in
- 17:22Speaker 5: that word doesn't work.
- 17:25Speaker 4: You got the jump on me.
- 17:26Speaker 5: But yeah, this hour's word is green. So go to
- 17:29Speaker 5: nine through three KJR dot com and enter the word green.
- 17:32Speaker 4: You're entered to win one thousand dollars.
- 17:34Speaker 2: There's nothing like the text line of rata. Man, it
- 17:37Speaker 2: just lights up like a Christmas tree.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I just like that you're listening, and I always appreciate
- 17:42Speaker 5: corrections exactly.
- 17:45Speaker 2: They're not shy about that. To see. The Mariners were
- 17:49Speaker 2: off yesterday, but they were doing more than just sitting
- 17:51Speaker 2: around doing nothing. They had a trade deadline day that
- 17:55Speaker 2: they acted upon in the morning. They got Taylor Ward,
- 17:57Speaker 2: the right handed bat on are the right handed bats
- 17:59Speaker 2: they need because he's an on base guy. He leads
- 18:02Speaker 2: the league in walks is on basis like three eighty
- 18:06Speaker 2: is on basis over four of ten with against left
- 18:09Speaker 2: handed pitching, which is of course been a problem for
- 18:11Speaker 2: the Mariners most of this season. And we all know
- 18:14Speaker 2: the trade last weekend, this past weekend of Luis Castillo
- 18:17Speaker 2: to the White Sox that got him, Sir Anthony Domingez
- 18:19Speaker 2: as a new setup guy, a veteran setup guy they
- 18:22Speaker 2: need in the bullpen as well. Here to talk about
- 18:24Speaker 2: that and more of the tweaked not quite new look,
- 18:27Speaker 2: but tweaked Mariners before they begin their series tonight against
- 18:30Speaker 2: Detroit down at the Yard and so to our friend
- 18:32Speaker 2: Gary Hill Junior, the Mariners broadcast team radio play by play,
- 18:36Speaker 2: joined us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Good morning, Gary.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Corner, Greg, how's it going. Good to be back.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Thank you, It's good to have you back well, and
- 18:45Speaker 2: hopefully you enjoyed your off day at home. I know
- 18:47Speaker 2: those are few and far between.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Home off days don't come up very often, so yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 6: this was a nice one, especially after.
- 18:55Speaker 7: I know that last trip was just travelized in the
- 18:59Speaker 7: late nights and everything else, and right into it over
- 19:02Speaker 7: the weekend. It was nice to have a reset, I
- 19:04Speaker 7: think for everybody. So it was a good day, very
- 19:07Speaker 7: good day.
- 19:08Speaker 2: You deserve that, Sir, well, what do you think, as
- 19:10Speaker 2: someone who follows the team and describes them every single
- 19:13Speaker 2: day of the season, of the moves they made. We
- 19:16Speaker 2: knew they needed a right handed bat. They got one
- 19:18Speaker 2: that gets on base at least has this year for
- 19:20Speaker 2: the Oriols. Interesting. His power has gone away, but it's
- 19:22Speaker 2: on base going up, and you can talk about that
- 19:25Speaker 2: as well. And then you got the veteran that you
- 19:28Speaker 2: needed to be a set up guy in the bullp
- 19:29Speaker 2: who instantly, by the way, becomes the highest paid relieve
- 19:31Speaker 2: in Mariner's history because he signed a two year, twenty
- 19:33Speaker 2: million dollars deal with the White Sox to leave Toronto
- 19:36Speaker 2: after the World Series last year. Your impressions of those
- 19:39Speaker 2: two moves.
- 19:41Speaker 6: Yeah, let's start with the Castillo one. First.
- 19:43Speaker 7: It was a really good baseball trade. And I think
- 19:45Speaker 7: we all saw the writing on the wall with kind
- 19:48Speaker 7: of how.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Emerson Hancock has emerged and what Kate Anderson is doing.
- 19:53Speaker 7: A starter was going to be traded either at this
- 19:55Speaker 7: deadline or the offseason.
- 19:56Speaker 6: I think we all saw that coming, and so from a.
- 19:59Speaker 7: Baseballerspective, I think it was a really good trade. Sir
- 20:02Speaker 7: Anthony de Bengez, he's a stuffy right handed pitcher, which
- 20:06Speaker 7: they really need right now in the bullpen, and really
- 20:09Speaker 7: interesting prospect. I think too that we'll see.
- 20:11Speaker 6: How he develops as well, but kind of bittersweet. I
- 20:15Speaker 6: think form Aeron fans.
- 20:16Speaker 7: Luis Castillo for me is a Mariners Hall of Famer.
- 20:20Speaker 7: I think his impact was enormous for the Mariners. And
- 20:23Speaker 7: what he did, you know, starting the first playoff game
- 20:26Speaker 7: in twenty years for the Mariners and dominating the Blue Jays,
- 20:29Speaker 7: was pitching for the Mariners when they walked up the
- 20:32Speaker 7: Tigers last year. He's pitched in some monster game for
- 20:35Speaker 7: the Mariners, and he has been just excellent from Mariners
- 20:40Speaker 7: All Star you know, head of the rotation for a while,
- 20:42Speaker 7: and so from that perspective, he'll be missed. But I
- 20:46Speaker 7: think it's totally understandable what the Mariners did given what
- 20:51Speaker 7: they have in the rotation and what he has done
- 20:53Speaker 7: so far this year. So hopefully Dominguez can be good
- 20:59Speaker 7: at that, a good setup guy from the right side,
- 21:02Speaker 7: because they need that right now, especially before Brash comes
- 21:05Speaker 7: back and Vargas comes back.
- 21:06Speaker 6: There's a few weeks here where they need him to
- 21:09Speaker 6: be good.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Hopefully Wilcox can continue to be good and hopefully Bizarto.
- 21:13Speaker 7: You know, it's been kind of a rough stretch with
- 21:15Speaker 7: the home runs the last few games, so hopefully he
- 21:17Speaker 7: can get over that because they need that from the
- 21:20Speaker 7: right side. And then Ward, you know, he's a pro.
- 21:23Speaker 7: It's been interesting his last two years. As you reference,
- 21:26Speaker 7: you have thirty six home runs last year, just seven
- 21:29Speaker 7: this year.
- 21:29Speaker 6: But he's getting on base a ton you know, three eighty.
- 21:32Speaker 7: That's pretty elite, and that's something they really need from
- 21:35Speaker 7: the right side. And he also gets on base at
- 21:37Speaker 7: a three seventy clip against writings, so he's not just
- 21:40Speaker 7: a oh, just play platoon guy. He's gonna be in
- 21:43Speaker 7: the lineup every day, and he's gonna be towards the
- 21:45Speaker 7: top of the lineup, probably leading off against lefties or
- 21:49Speaker 7: at least at the top of the lineup against lefties.
- 21:51Speaker 6: So that's a really key guy.
- 21:53Speaker 7: And it is gonna feel like, I think, a new
- 21:55Speaker 7: look lineup because Ward's.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Gonna be in there.
- 21:58Speaker 7: I expect Donovan to be in there as well. It's
- 22:00Speaker 7: gonna feel like an acquisition given we haven't seen him
- 22:02Speaker 7: in so long, so it is gonna feel like a
- 22:05Speaker 7: new look lineup, I think starting tonight.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Do you think word goes well, you said one against
- 22:11Speaker 2: leftenanders because it was high on base against lefties. But
- 22:14Speaker 2: do you think Donovan stays at the top of the
- 22:16Speaker 2: line of perhaps two and move who will go down
- 22:18Speaker 2: and move? Or do you think Donovan, because he's been
- 22:20Speaker 2: out so long, starts at the bottom of the lineup.
- 22:24Speaker 6: I could see him more towards the bottom.
- 22:27Speaker 7: I think Cole Young is gonna stay where he's at
- 22:29Speaker 7: right now against righty's because he's just been sizzling. He's
- 22:32Speaker 7: been excellent at the top. I mean, man, he really
- 22:39Speaker 7: has been. What a step forward he's made this year.
- 22:42Speaker 6: And you know, we know this.
- 22:44Speaker 7: He played every He's played every single day, right He's
- 22:47Speaker 7: been in there every day and they've needed him every day,
- 22:50Speaker 7: and especially in this recent stretch, he's just crushing the ball,
- 22:54Speaker 7: you know, over four hundred batting average, nearly five hundred
- 22:57Speaker 7: on base with power, you know, a couple of triples,
- 22:59Speaker 7: a hole along the way.
- 23:01Speaker 6: So I see him still at the top.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Of the lineup, and I'm I'm kind of as curious
- 23:06Speaker 7: as everyone else to see Donovan.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Where Donovan fits in, And.
- 23:09Speaker 7: I could see him at the bottom, you know, to
- 23:11Speaker 7: start you towards the bottom to start things and then
- 23:15Speaker 7: we'll see where it goes is he works his way back.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Of course, Brendan Donovan was the leadoff batter for the
- 23:21Speaker 2: first month and a half or so before the injuries.
- 23:23Speaker 2: It was really good. Yeah, and he was he was
- 23:25Speaker 2: getting on base and was the most insistent guy. Gary
- 23:27Speaker 2: Hill Junior I Radio was broadcaster for the Mariners, joining
- 23:30Speaker 2: us here on the Beacon Plumbing hotline. If you could
- 23:33Speaker 2: go back to Luis Castill someone alluded to it. But
- 23:35Speaker 2: for those that don't know, we see what he does
- 23:38Speaker 2: on the mound, but how respected and beloved he was
- 23:41Speaker 2: in that clubhouse and why and what you noticed when
- 23:44Speaker 2: you saw them day to day.
- 23:46Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, first of all, he's just a really great person.
- 23:49Speaker 7: He's a great human being and really fun to be around.
- 23:52Speaker 7: He's fun to talk to. He's just he's always in
- 23:56Speaker 7: good spirits.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And for that real.
- 24:01Speaker 7: You know, when they were coming up, it was a
- 24:04Speaker 7: really young group. He was the veteran and he was
- 24:07Speaker 7: a guy that they really leaned on. And I feel
- 24:09Speaker 7: like that wasn't always public kind of his influence on
- 24:13Speaker 7: molding a lot of these guys, but it did make
- 24:15Speaker 7: a real difference.
- 24:16Speaker 6: And now you look around.
- 24:17Speaker 7: And Gilbert and Kirby and Wu and Hancock and Miller,
- 24:21Speaker 7: they're all veterans.
- 24:22Speaker 6: They've been doing it for a long time.
- 24:23Speaker 7: But that wasn't the case when Castillo first got here,
- 24:26Speaker 7: and he was the head of the rotation and he
- 24:28Speaker 7: was the guy that they kind of followed. So he
- 24:31Speaker 7: has made and we've heard the stories, you know, the
- 24:33Speaker 7: last few days coming from different guys, and the impact
- 24:36Speaker 7: that they've made on him.
- 24:38Speaker 6: His impact will be long lasting.
- 24:40Speaker 7: It really will, not only for what he's done as
- 24:42Speaker 7: a Mariner on the field, but for what he's done
- 24:44Speaker 7: for the other guys in the rotation and the leader
- 24:47Speaker 7: he's been off the field.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Gary This weekend, of course, the Mariners at home and
- 24:53Speaker 2: they posted Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend in Al
- 24:56Speaker 2: East relating Rays. They're celebrating their fiftieth anniversary either top
- 25:00Speaker 2: fifty players of all time. They're trying to get as
- 25:02Speaker 2: many of them to come back that or on that list.
- 25:05Speaker 2: This morning, Alex Rodriguez confirmed that he is coming back
- 25:09Speaker 2: as one of the top fifty Mariners of all time,
- 25:11Speaker 2: which makes sense that he was on that list. What
- 25:14Speaker 2: kind of reception do you think, Alex Rodrigo is going
- 25:16Speaker 2: to get in T Mobile Park on Saturday.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Well, it's never been a favorable one, but I would
- 25:22Speaker 7: like to see it be this time around, hopefully. I
- 25:26Speaker 7: don't know, do you feel like there's enough you've been here?
- 25:28Speaker 7: Is there enough water under the bridge?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Now that there's some water but not quite up to
- 25:34Speaker 2: the top of the bridge.
- 25:36Speaker 6: That's the question. I don't know, is there enough? I mean,
- 25:39Speaker 6: shouldn't be told.
- 25:40Speaker 7: His run as a Mariner was incredible. Yeah, he burst
- 25:44Speaker 7: out of the scene and he was an unbelievable player
- 25:47Speaker 7: for the Mariners in those first few years. And I
- 25:49Speaker 7: know the exit was not pretty going to Texas. We
- 25:53Speaker 7: all saw that.
- 25:54Speaker 6: But he's clearly one of the top fifty Mariners.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Yes about that at such a young age.
- 26:02Speaker 6: Too, right, at such a young age.
- 26:04Speaker 7: I mean, he was putting up he was putting up
- 26:06Speaker 7: forty home run seasons, thirty plus double season's high average.
- 26:10Speaker 6: He was doing it all as a young short.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Style and he was playing like gold glove level defense
- 26:15Speaker 2: at shorts.
- 26:17Speaker 6: He was everything. He was everything. And you think about
- 26:20Speaker 6: those Mariner teams that.
- 26:23Speaker 7: Just the firepower they had, you know, I think about
- 26:27Speaker 7: that ninety seventeam a lot, and I know they didn't
- 26:29Speaker 7: make a run. They were bounced out by Baltimore in
- 26:32Speaker 7: the postseason, but he kind of looked back at that
- 26:35Speaker 7: lineup and you know, a rod in his prime, Griffy
- 26:39Speaker 7: in his prime, a fifty six home run season, Buner
- 26:42Speaker 7: in his prime, a forty home run season, Edgar and
- 26:44Speaker 7: his prime. That offense was utterly absurd, and they didn't
- 26:48Speaker 7: have enough pitching to go along with it, but all
- 26:51Speaker 7: those guys in their prime at the same time, just
- 26:54Speaker 7: crushing homers all over the place.
- 26:57Speaker 6: It was really in a place where it was very
- 27:00Speaker 6: easy to hit home runs in the Kingdom.
- 27:02Speaker 7: But it was just a remarkable offense and an incredible time.
- 27:07Speaker 7: And so I hope he's greeted warmly. But we'll see
- 27:11Speaker 7: what happens that season.
- 27:13Speaker 2: You're talking about King gri rer Ginia in the fifty
- 27:14Speaker 2: six home runs of the lead the league. Jay Buhner
- 27:17Speaker 2: had forty, Paul Sorrento had thirty one home runs for
- 27:20Speaker 2: that team. He's a forgotten Mariner. Edgar Martinez, you don't
- 27:25Speaker 2: think of him as a big home run here. I
- 27:27Speaker 2: had twenty eight that year for the Mariners, and Rodriguez
- 27:30Speaker 2: had twenty four. You're right about the He betted three hundred,
- 27:34Speaker 2: which is like these days would be put him in
- 27:36Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame. He had three hundred.
- 27:38Speaker 7: Wilson betted like Danilson, about like eighth in that line up.
- 27:40Speaker 7: He bet at two to seventy with fifteen home runs.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yes, exact, exactly. That team was eighteen games over five
- 27:47Speaker 2: hundred and won the AO West the Mariners, but packing
- 27:50Speaker 2: the Kingdome in those days. After that, ninety five refused
- 27:53Speaker 2: to lose season. In ninety seven, they were third in
- 27:55Speaker 2: the league in attendance. They grew over three million people
- 27:58Speaker 2: inside a concrete dome through the That's how good that
- 28:00Speaker 2: team was. Yeah, I remember that well, Gary, I definitely
- 28:05Speaker 2: I was here. I remember that tea. Yeah, Gary Hill.
- 28:10Speaker 6: Hard to go in the Kingdom too.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Oh man, exactly. Yeah, you'd walk in going this baseball
- 28:16Speaker 2: better be good because it's eighty degrees and Sonny out
- 28:19Speaker 2: here and you still go in and see a show.
- 28:21Speaker 2: That's right about since run the subject of that this
- 28:25Speaker 2: coming weekend in the fifty year celebration, what are you
- 28:27Speaker 2: looking forward to most? Maybe who you might be looking
- 28:29Speaker 2: forward to seeing the most is that the home run Derby?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Is it seeing faces and guys you just haven't seen
- 28:35Speaker 2: in a while. What are you looking forward to most?
- 28:37Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's the unique and this feels like
- 28:40Speaker 7: a one time to see generations of Mariner greats all
- 28:45Speaker 7: in the same place at the same time. And for me,
- 28:49Speaker 7: it starts with you know, when I was a little kid,
- 28:51Speaker 7: it was.
- 28:52Speaker 6: Like Langston and Alvin Davis for me, but like the
- 28:54Speaker 6: first Mariner stars and I really just really latched onto
- 28:59Speaker 6: them early.
- 29:00Speaker 7: And so it's going to go through the ads and
- 29:03Speaker 7: the Mark Langston into you know, the Griffies, and it's
- 29:08Speaker 7: mentioned a Rod and Buner and that generation onto a
- 29:11Speaker 7: lot of stars now and of course each your own,
- 29:13Speaker 7: and it's just a generation. And you look at the
- 29:16Speaker 7: Mariners now as an organization that's fifty years old and
- 29:20Speaker 7: for the first time it's a generational team. You have
- 29:23Speaker 7: a generational fan base. This has now been passed down
- 29:26Speaker 7: from grandparents to parents to children. You see generations of
- 29:32Speaker 7: fans and it's gonna be fun, I think, to celebrate
- 29:35Speaker 7: the generations of players all the same time.
- 29:38Speaker 6: I'm just looking forward to the stories and the.
- 29:40Speaker 7: Memories and just kind of what it represents for the
- 29:44Speaker 7: city of Seattle and Mariner baseball fans.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Gary, The AO West has obviously shifted here in the
- 29:51Speaker 2: last two weeks or so. A week and a half,
- 29:53Speaker 2: the six game winning streak by the trash Cans has
- 29:55Speaker 2: Houston now in first place. The Rangers had lost six
- 29:59Speaker 2: in a row to four all out, and now they're
- 30:01Speaker 2: tied with the Mariners at two and a half. Back Ever,
- 30:03Speaker 2: reports the Rangers were offering anyone and everyone to trade
- 30:07Speaker 2: in Texas yesterday, and we had a Texas beat writer
- 30:11Speaker 2: on before that Mariners series saying the next week or
- 30:13Speaker 2: so would decide whether they are going to sell, and
- 30:16Speaker 2: even if they win, they probably aren't going to be
- 30:18Speaker 2: buyers at the deadline because they didn't think this was
- 30:20Speaker 2: the World Series team. Anyway. Do you think it's now
- 30:23Speaker 2: Houston or bust for Seattle to run down to win
- 30:26Speaker 2: the division? Do you think Texas has faded and they
- 30:29Speaker 2: just don't have the pitching? And what might worry you
- 30:31Speaker 2: about Houston as if they start getting healthier?
- 30:35Speaker 7: Oh boy, Well, it's hard to predict the AL West. Honestly,
- 30:39Speaker 7: given what we've seen so far this year, I would
- 30:41Speaker 7: not count Texas out at this point because we have
- 30:43Speaker 7: seen them capable of rip off a good run of baseball,
- 30:47Speaker 7: and at this point, I mean, if you put together
- 30:49Speaker 7: a good week, week and a half two weeks, you're
- 30:51Speaker 7: going to be a great position.
- 30:52Speaker 2: In the division.
- 30:53Speaker 7: So I wouldn't count them out. Although they have their flaws.
- 30:56Speaker 7: The Astros have their flaws as well. I think we
- 30:58Speaker 7: can say that the Mariners out of the division made
- 31:02Speaker 7: themselves had the most impact at the deadline. I think,
- 31:05Speaker 7: you know, the Astros moves of the deadline we'll see
- 31:10Speaker 7: I mean not big moves, certainly, so we'll see how
- 31:13Speaker 7: much barshow helps them in the outfield or not. But
- 31:16Speaker 7: they still have pretty significant flaws as well. I think
- 31:19Speaker 7: the scariest part of the Astros is they have the
- 31:22Speaker 7: American League MVP going right now and Jordan Alvarez who's
- 31:26Speaker 7: been just a monster, and it feels like he's been
- 31:30Speaker 7: almost single handedly carrying them for a long stretch. His
- 31:33Speaker 7: year has been utterly ridiculous, and so where as he goes,
- 31:38Speaker 7: they go. And of course he has an injury history
- 31:40Speaker 7: as well, but he stayed pretty healthy for this stretch.
- 31:43Speaker 7: But I am starting to look at that series in
- 31:46Speaker 7: Houston coming up coming up on this road trip, the
- 31:49Speaker 7: weekend series in Houston a three gamer, and the Mariners
- 31:52Speaker 7: have dominated.
- 31:53Speaker 6: The Astros this year. They really have.
- 31:56Speaker 7: You think back to that sweep in Houston earlier this
- 31:58Speaker 7: year and Mariners now seven to one against the Astros
- 32:02Speaker 7: this season. That's gonna be a huge series coming up,
- 32:07Speaker 7: and hopefully the Mariners can set the table for that
- 32:09Speaker 7: by winning a couple of series. Beating the Tigers in
- 32:12Speaker 7: a series, raised in a series that won't be easy,
- 32:15Speaker 7: but setting the table for that big weekend series would
- 32:19Speaker 7: be enormous. And you know, the Asterers are playing great
- 32:22Speaker 7: right now, but they're flawed too, So who knows how
- 32:24Speaker 7: long this stretch is gonna last. I just think it's
- 32:27Speaker 7: impossible to predict what's gonna happen. It's all up in
- 32:30Speaker 7: the air for me.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Gary're you're right to bring up the seven to one
- 32:34Speaker 2: series lead, dominating the Mariners, dominating Houston because there are
- 32:38Speaker 2: no playoffs anymore. If you end up no tie at
- 32:41Speaker 2: the end of the season, it goes to head to
- 32:43Speaker 2: head and the Mariners would have that tiwerker, so they
- 32:45Speaker 2: just have to tie Houston and not actually get ahead
- 32:48Speaker 2: of them after one sixty two. It's a good point
- 32:50Speaker 2: on that. Oh okay, what are you looking forward to
- 32:52Speaker 2: tonight or in this series? There's no Scooba on the
- 32:55Speaker 2: mound for Detroit. But yet the Tigers sounds like they're
- 32:58Speaker 2: gonna start a guy who gave me the Marrior problems
- 33:00Speaker 2: in the ads last year. Detraite's somewhat surgeon here. They're
- 33:05Speaker 2: about five and a half out of a playoffs, by
- 33:06Speaker 2: which a lot of teams can say. But from where
- 33:08Speaker 2: they were, they've come way from way back.
- 33:11Speaker 7: Yeah, and yeah, it's funny. They traded two of the
- 33:14Speaker 7: best pictures. Yet Mariners will see their two best remaining pictures.
- 33:18Speaker 7: Troy Maultain has been He was really impressive, as you
- 33:20Speaker 7: point out the playoffs last year.
- 33:22Speaker 6: His stuff is really unique and he's going to go tonight.
- 33:25Speaker 6: So and he's been awesome.
- 33:27Speaker 7: His ears been cut short, so he's only had eleven starts,
- 33:29Speaker 7: but his earra's under two. He's been completely dominant. So
- 33:33Speaker 7: the Mariners will have their hands full tonight, and they'll
- 33:35Speaker 7: face an old friend coming up in game three of
- 33:37Speaker 7: the series in Feverra Valdez. So of course, yeah, so
- 33:44Speaker 7: uh and those have gone one or two ways every time,
- 33:47Speaker 7: so there's a lot of familiarity there.
- 33:49Speaker 6: The Meritis have.
- 33:49Speaker 7: Gotten to him sometimes they haven't other times, so we'll
- 33:52Speaker 7: see what happens in between. There's a bullpen start, so
- 33:55Speaker 7: for me, you got to get the game. You got
- 33:58Speaker 7: to get the bullpen game. With Wu going on the
- 34:00Speaker 7: other side, that's gonna be the key. That's a muss.
- 34:02Speaker 6: And then you try and pick off one of the
- 34:04Speaker 6: other two. Try and get Mount, try and get.
- 34:06Speaker 7: Valdez because for me, as much as a nine game
- 34:10Speaker 7: winning streak would be great, what they really need to
- 34:12Speaker 7: do is stack.
- 34:13Speaker 6: Up series wins.
- 34:15Speaker 7: And it wasn't easy against the Twins, but a good
- 34:17Speaker 7: start they got the series.
- 34:19Speaker 6: It's a pass failed test.
- 34:20Speaker 7: They won the series and now try and do the
- 34:22Speaker 7: same against the Tigers.
- 34:23Speaker 6: That's and for me, it's the middle game that's one
- 34:26Speaker 6: to get.
- 34:27Speaker 2: That's night game, night game, day game, three game series
- 34:30Speaker 2: at the Yard and Soto between the Tigers and Mariners.
- 34:32Speaker 2: And Gary Hill Junior will be bringing all to you
- 34:34Speaker 2: on the Raiders Mariners Radio Network. Thank you sir, as always,
- 34:37Speaker 2: it's always great to talk to you. Thanks for joining
- 34:38Speaker 2: us anytime.
- 34:40Speaker 6: Well chat son.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Gary Hill Junior on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline when we
- 34:45Speaker 2: come back. The Hard Knarcs first episode of Seahawks Training
- 34:48Speaker 2: Camp airs tonight. What the Seahawks are saying about it.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Next a ninety three point three KJRFM. Hi, welcome Mack
- 35:14Speaker 2: greg Bell from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center on the
- 35:16Speaker 2: sidelines of training camps practice fields. The practice will go
- 35:20Speaker 2: on this afternoon about one o'clock, the ninth practice of camp.
- 35:24Speaker 2: The Hard Knocks cameras and Boom microphones will be all
- 35:27Speaker 2: over it like they have been since day one, really
- 35:30Speaker 2: since the OTA's and Mini camps in the spring. They've
- 35:32Speaker 2: been out here. They set up their own compound just
- 35:36Speaker 2: outside the gates entering the facility. It's got a couple
- 35:41Speaker 2: portable trailers, it's got a bunch of equipment, it's got cranes.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Quite a production in NFL films and HBO puts on
- 35:48Speaker 2: for this show. In the first episode of Seahawks Training Camp.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Hard Knocks will be tonight. It's airing at nine o'clock Eastern,
- 35:56Speaker 2: six o'clock Pacific. If you have HBO Max you can
- 35:59Speaker 2: stream it starting its six pm Pacific. If you have
- 36:02Speaker 2: cable on HBO, I'm told you watch it at HBO
- 36:05Speaker 2: at nine o'clock. Like the rest of the country. And
- 36:07Speaker 2: all the time zones will be showing at HBO in
- 36:09Speaker 2: the local markets at nine pm tonight our time. What
- 36:14Speaker 2: does Seahawks think about this? I wrote a story this
- 36:16Speaker 2: morning at the News Tribune. It's up at the Neewstribune
- 36:18Speaker 2: dot com about this. Sam Darnald was asked about Hard
- 36:23Speaker 2: Knocks and he said he likes it. He also likes
- 36:26Speaker 2: some aspects of the editing process of Hard Knocks. This
- 36:29Speaker 2: is the Seahawks Super Bowl winning quarterback about being on
- 36:32Speaker 2: national television starting tonight. What's the Hard Knocks answer?
- 36:37Speaker 8: It's been great.
- 36:38Speaker 2: We're loving it.
- 36:40Speaker 8: You know, it was funny, it was it was a
- 36:43Speaker 8: talk in the qv room is like who's gonna change
- 36:45Speaker 8: and who's not when the cameras are gone, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 8: in the in the uh, you know, just in the
- 36:51Speaker 8: locker room, and no one's really changed, which I'm I'm
- 36:54Speaker 8: proud of. So, uh, you know, it's been fun though.
- 36:57Speaker 8: I think after the first first three or four days,
- 37:00Speaker 8: you kind of forget the cameras are there, which might
- 37:02Speaker 8: be a bad thing, but no, I think, you know,
- 37:05Speaker 8: we're all kind of used to it at this point.
- 37:06Speaker 8: It was nice to hear that they record. I think
- 37:09Speaker 8: three hundred hours of film every single day and only
- 37:13Speaker 8: one hour gets used throughout the day. So that was
- 37:17Speaker 8: very Uh, that was very nice to know that as.
- 37:19Speaker 2: The starry quarterback that you're probably gonna be a big
- 37:21Speaker 2: focal point of the show. And you do you feel
- 37:24Speaker 2: like you're more prepared or.
- 37:25Speaker 6: That you now than you would have been maybe like a.
- 37:28Speaker 9: Few years ago.
- 37:30Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, I think, however you want to look
- 37:33Speaker 8: at I think I would have been prepared a few
- 37:35Speaker 8: years ago. But I think experience and you know, just
- 37:39Speaker 8: being around locker rooms and being a little bit older,
- 37:43Speaker 8: I guess maybe more mature. I think you know that
- 37:46Speaker 8: can help a little bit with this experience. But it's
- 37:49Speaker 8: been great Man, to be able to have the crew around.
- 37:51Speaker 8: The crew is awesome too, really good people, So it's
- 37:53Speaker 8: been awesome to have them around last one hard times.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Who do you feel like whose personality need like the
- 37:59Speaker 2: world is gonna learned him out? Oh?
- 38:04Speaker 8: Man, Honestly, I think I think the head coach, the
- 38:08Speaker 8: head ball coach, Mike. I think I think he'll shine
- 38:11Speaker 8: right on hard knocks just for people to kind of
- 38:13Speaker 8: see his personality and his personality come to life. I
- 38:17Speaker 8: think is because he's a great guy. Obviously, we know him,
- 38:21Speaker 8: we know who he is as our head coach and
- 38:23Speaker 8: as a person, and I think for the entire world
- 38:26Speaker 8: to see that, it's gonna be really cool.
- 38:28Speaker 2: That's Sam Donald talking about The Hard Knocks the premier
- 38:31Speaker 2: episode tonight. There are episodes every Tuesday from now until
- 38:35Speaker 2: September the first. This is the first time since the
- 38:38Speaker 2: very first Hard Knocks twenty five years ago that they
- 38:40Speaker 2: featured a defending Super Bowl champion. The very first one
- 38:43Speaker 2: was the two thousand and one Baltimore Ravens who were champions,
- 38:47Speaker 2: and then for a long time the league rule was
- 38:49Speaker 2: if you made the playoffs the previous year, you weren't
- 38:51Speaker 2: gonna be on Hard On. You were exempt and it
- 38:54Speaker 2: was only non playoff teams that were making Its explained
- 38:57Speaker 2: sometimes why the Dallas Cowboys have been on three times,
- 39:00Speaker 2: But the Seahawks recently a couple years ago to the
- 39:04Speaker 2: NFL changed that rule when playoff teams could get in.
- 39:07Speaker 2: In fact, the Seahawks are doing it this year, and
- 39:09Speaker 2: they've already announced next year the team that they played
- 39:11Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl in February, the New England Patriots,
- 39:14Speaker 2: will be featured on Hard Knocks in twenty twenty seven.
- 39:17Speaker 2: But this is the first time the Seahawks have ever
- 39:19Speaker 2: had the Hard Knocks crew in the NFL film's crew
- 39:22Speaker 2: out here. I think Donald's right about McDonald and the
- 39:25Speaker 2: nation learning about him his self, deprecating nature. They've already
- 39:29Speaker 2: put out a trailer that had showing a team meeting
- 39:33Speaker 2: in the main auditorium room of Mike McDonald's saying I'm
- 39:37Speaker 2: one of the most boring guys in the history of America.
- 39:39Speaker 4: I've loved that. I mean, it was perfect though. It
- 39:43Speaker 4: was absolutely perfect for that production.
- 39:45Speaker 5: And actually, I do believe a lot of these things
- 39:47Speaker 5: get overproduced, and you're seeing the real Mike McDonald in
- 39:51Speaker 5: that moment.
- 39:52Speaker 2: So the way they do it is that these remote
- 39:53Speaker 2: camera robotic cameras that are in the main team meeting room,
- 39:57Speaker 2: they're in the individual position meeting room, and those are
- 40:01Speaker 2: areas that general media can never get in beat writers
- 40:04Speaker 2: can't get And Chuck Powe was asking me this morning
- 40:06Speaker 2: at seven o'clock here on kJ ARE about this, and
- 40:09Speaker 2: he said, is there are going to be things that
- 40:10Speaker 2: you revealed that you don't have access to?
- 40:12Speaker 6: It?
- 40:13Speaker 2: Say yes, because there are cameras that we don't have
- 40:15Speaker 2: access to. There's also handheld cameras that the men and
- 40:20Speaker 2: women of the hard Narks NFL crew staff are walking
- 40:23Speaker 2: through the locker room of the ninety players to film
- 40:26Speaker 2: and record. We're not allowed in the locker room during
- 40:29Speaker 2: the preseason because there are ninety players in there. There's
- 40:32Speaker 2: temporary lockers down the middle and whatnot. We do go
- 40:35Speaker 2: into the locker room once the regular season it begins
- 40:37Speaker 2: and the roster's cut down to fifty three at the
- 40:40Speaker 2: end of August. But the access to the places that
- 40:44Speaker 2: they can go alone is a curtain pullback that the
- 40:47Speaker 2: normal media TV, radio, and print can never get to.
- 40:51Speaker 2: So that's that. I will tell you that the cameras,
- 40:55Speaker 2: the boom mics are following Devin Witherspoon everywhere he goes
- 40:58Speaker 2: on the field. He's bending down to tie his shoe,
- 41:02Speaker 2: the boom mic is over his head. They figured out
- 41:04Speaker 2: that he chirps and gives everybody a hard time, especially
- 41:08Speaker 2: the offensive players during practices, so they stay focused on him.
- 41:12Speaker 2: The nation, I think is going to really get a
- 41:14Speaker 2: Devin Witherspoon introduction as well on his personality and how
- 41:18Speaker 2: brash he is. I will say this, it tends to
- 41:21Speaker 2: be in the hard knocks that the first step or
- 41:23Speaker 2: two episodes are about the stars, and then once viewers
- 41:27Speaker 2: get to be familiar with storylines on roster battles and
- 41:31Speaker 2: undrafted rookies that are coming out of nowhere, and then
- 41:35Speaker 2: it's you start getting those stories and then who gets
- 41:38Speaker 2: cut at the end of the preseason.
- 41:39Speaker 5: Yeah, that one cutdown is so much more machete than
- 41:43Speaker 5: it used to be, right, exactly seventy Yeah, exactly.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. That is much different. People ask me
- 41:52Speaker 2: all the time. By the way, what's my undrafted rookie
- 41:55Speaker 2: who's made a big impression? Aiden Hubbard is a edge
- 41:58Speaker 2: rushing linebacker from Northwestern. He's sixty four, two fifty nine.
- 42:03Speaker 2: He's tall, he's fast, he's lean. He's the prototype in
- 42:07Speaker 2: a way body type and speed wise, and he has
- 42:10Speaker 2: showed well so far. Andre Fuller, the undrafted cornerback from Toledo,
- 42:16Speaker 2: is six one, two hundred pounds. He has had a
- 42:19Speaker 2: pretty good camp. It was Somalow Saamalo, a nose tackle
- 42:23Speaker 2: with three hundred and thirty pounds from Kansas State, is
- 42:25Speaker 2: someone that they think highly of and want to see
- 42:29Speaker 2: give him every opportunity to make the team because of
- 42:31Speaker 2: the depth need at that position. Brandon Peely has been
- 42:35Speaker 2: out some practices injured with the incumbent at nose tackle,
- 42:41Speaker 2: the true nose tackle that they have on the roster,
- 42:43Speaker 2: So say Samalow has a chance to make the roster
- 42:46Speaker 2: because they do need depth on the defensive line. All
- 42:49Speaker 2: my coverages at the Newstribune dot com. If you want
- 42:51Speaker 2: to go there, you can subscribe it for ninety nine
- 42:53Speaker 2: cents for six months, not per month, but total less
- 42:57Speaker 2: than one dollar for six months at the News Tribune
- 43:00Speaker 2: dot com.
- 43:01Speaker 5: Hop like that promotion, by the way, as someone who
- 43:03Speaker 5: gets prompted to pay for everything these days.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Ninety nine cents for six six months.
- 43:10Speaker 2: You said it was twelve months a couple of weeks ago,
- 43:12Speaker 2: and I can't find that deal. I'm trying to give
- 43:14Speaker 2: it to my friends, but a couple of my wife's
- 43:16Speaker 2: friends saw it and jumped all over it. Yeah, but
- 43:19Speaker 2: ninety nine cents for six months isn't too bad either.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I do two dollars for.
- 43:23Speaker 2: The year two exactly. Go to the News Tribune dot com.
- 43:28Speaker 2: You get all their Seahawks coverage and Puget Sound and
- 43:31Speaker 2: prep news and the State Capitol news and all of that.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Up next, Noah Ig Moinogamy, the veteran defensive back with
- 43:39Speaker 2: a really interesting backstory and a very true allegiance to
- 43:43Speaker 2: Dan Quinn, the former Seahawks defensive coordinator now the head
- 43:46Speaker 2: coach of the Washington Commanders. I'll sit down next with
- 43:49Speaker 2: no Iggnogamy from Seahawks training camp live on ninety three
- 43:52Speaker 2: point three KJRFM.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
- 44:03Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM sports headlines.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Ha, good morning, thanks for joining us the Virginia As
- 44:09Speaker 2: Athletics Center for the Seahawks ninth practice and training camp.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Headlines have brought to you by Frost Brewed cors Light
- 44:14Speaker 2: Choos Joe Seahawks Day eight of training camp yesterday, biggest
- 44:18Speaker 2: and best day yet for rookie safety Bud Clark first
- 44:20Speaker 2: team defense as the deep safety next to Julian Love
- 44:24Speaker 2: in eleven on eleven and also in the Nick even
- 44:26Speaker 2: Wrorrey hybrid linebacker role. Mike McDonald said he's trying to
- 44:29Speaker 2: give him everything and anything he can handle, just like
- 44:32Speaker 2: he did with Nick even Worry last year. Of course,
- 44:34Speaker 2: even wore he's on the physical unable to perform list.
- 44:38Speaker 2: McDonald said, he's trending positively in his recovery and rehab
- 44:42Speaker 2: from that, but still no timetable and when he can
- 44:44Speaker 2: return to Seahawks, I'm told expect him to play in
- 44:46Speaker 2: the opener September ninth against New England. Potentially some bad
- 44:49Speaker 2: news for the team on Robbie Oots is coming up.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Mike McDonald said, we're going to have news sooner than later.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Of course, he's missed the last two practices, and of
- 44:58Speaker 2: course he missed the last two game of last season
- 45:00Speaker 2: with a neck issue, So there might be some bad
- 45:02Speaker 2: news on Robbie Hoots coming down the pipe. First episode
- 45:05Speaker 2: of Seahawks training Camp Hard Knocks tonight six pm if
- 45:08Speaker 2: you have HBO Max to stream at nine pm R
- 45:10Speaker 2: time if you have HBO Cable Tv. A story up
- 45:13Speaker 2: at the Neewstribute dot com and what Stam Darnold, Mike
- 45:15Speaker 2: McDonald and Moore are saying about the seahawks first ever
- 45:18Speaker 2: appearance aren Hard Knocks. The Mariners hosts the Tigers in
- 45:22Speaker 2: a three game set. It begins tonight the Yard and
- 45:24Speaker 2: Soto Emerson handcock against what was to have been Trek's
- 45:26Speaker 2: Scougel spot in the Tiger's rotation. Of course he got
- 45:28Speaker 2: traded to the Dodgers, so he's starting for LA against
- 45:31Speaker 2: the Cubs tonight. Toroy Moultain, you heard Gary Hill Junior
- 45:34Speaker 2: about had twenty minutes ago or so talking about Emerson
- 45:37Speaker 2: Hancock against Tory Meltain. Terry Mountain has an e rander
- 45:41Speaker 2: two for Detroit and eleven starts this year. The one
- 45:44Speaker 2: move the Mariners made yesterday on trade deadline Day was
- 45:46Speaker 2: Baltimore trading to get Baltimore outfit Taylor Ward, right handed
- 45:50Speaker 2: hitter who gets on base. Gary Hill Junior told us
- 45:53Speaker 2: he thinks he's gonna be at the top of the lineup,
- 45:55Speaker 2: perhaps against left hand and pitching, even the leadoff guy.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Manners gave up Alex Hoppey and two minor leaguers not
- 46:02Speaker 2: on their top prospect list to get Taylor Ward, who's
- 46:04Speaker 2: thirty two years old, had a thirty six homer run
- 46:06Speaker 2: the year last year with the Angels, only seven home
- 46:08Speaker 2: runs this year. He's becoming an on base guy for Baltimore.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Mariners manager Justin Hollanders. General manager Justin Hollanders told the
- 46:14Speaker 2: team's flagships radio station Luke Rayley is likely out for
- 46:18Speaker 2: the season injured. That's another reason. They went and got
- 46:20Speaker 2: Taylor Ward Mariners three games under five over, two and
- 46:23Speaker 2: a half games out of first place in the AL West.
- 46:25Speaker 2: They're off to the three game series tonight and then
- 46:28Speaker 2: they have a three game series this weekend at home
- 46:29Speaker 2: against Tampa Bay. The Storm lost their eighth straight game
- 46:32Speaker 2: at the New York Liberty yesterday. I'll swing. In the NFL,
- 46:35Speaker 2: the Atlanta Falcons signed running back John Robinson to a
- 46:38Speaker 2: three or seventy five million dollar contract extension that resets
- 46:41Speaker 2: the market at that position. Two time Pro Bowl receiver
- 46:44Speaker 2: z A. Flowers has agreed to a Baltimore Ravens deal
- 46:47Speaker 2: of four years, one hundred and forty million dollars one
- 46:50Speaker 2: hundred and eight million guaranteed. His agency, Wins Sports Group,
- 46:53Speaker 2: told ESPN that's the fourth highest annual average value for
- 46:57Speaker 2: a wide receiver.
- 46:58Speaker 5: Now.
- 46:58Speaker 2: He's tied with Jay Flowers, tied with Justin Jefferson at
- 47:01Speaker 2: thirty five million dollars.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Pretty solid, Pretty solid.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that work. That'll work here at Seahawks training camp,
- 47:11Speaker 2: We'll give you a chance to win one thousand dollars
- 47:13Speaker 2: every weekday, six am to six pm. We gave you
- 47:16Speaker 2: a preview of what this hour's word is It is
- 47:20Speaker 2: bank ba NK. Not last hour was green. This is
- 47:23Speaker 2: bank ba NK. End of that at ninety three kjar
- 47:25Speaker 2: dot conn a chance to win our Bonus Bucks contest
- 47:28Speaker 2: by sponsored by Bellevue Rare Coins with four locations in
- 47:31Speaker 2: the Puget Sound area. Here at training camp. No In
- 47:36Speaker 2: Panogamy is a veteran safety of former first round draft
- 47:39Speaker 2: pick of the Miami Dolphins. He has also played for
- 47:42Speaker 2: the Dallas Cowboys, where he defensive coordinator. Then was Dan
- 47:45Speaker 2: Quinn the former Seahawks defensive coordinator. Then dan Quinn when
- 47:50Speaker 2: he became the head coach of the Washington Commanders, signed
- 47:53Speaker 2: Igmanagamy to be the Commander's starter at cornerback. Ten starts
- 47:57Speaker 2: his first year in twenty twenty four, certainly up and
- 48:02Speaker 2: then last year he was the final of two seasons
- 48:05Speaker 2: with Washington. He plays nickel. He's been doing that in
- 48:08Speaker 2: training camp. Here we sat down and talked to Noggbinogamy.
- 48:12Speaker 2: This is him live on ninety three tape from yesterday
- 48:15Speaker 2: in ninety three point three KJRFM back here at Seahawks
- 48:18Speaker 2: training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Greg Bell,
- 48:20Speaker 2: Jessman McIntyre with you on ninety three point three kJ
- 48:22Speaker 2: R FM, and we're joined by new Seahawks cornerback, but
- 48:26Speaker 2: not new to the NFL, cornerback Noah Igbinogamy, sitting down
- 48:29Speaker 2: with us at training camp. Hello, sir, Hey, how you
- 48:31Speaker 2: doing well? Sir? Thank you for joining us. And you've
- 48:34Speaker 2: been to Miami, You've been to Dallas, you've been to Washington,
- 48:37Speaker 2: now Seattle. How does this compare? What's different or the
- 48:40Speaker 2: same or what's unique about the Seahawks environment compared to others.
- 48:43Speaker 9: Been I mean, of course, it's a championship environment. I've
- 48:47Speaker 9: been to other places where the one as well in
- 48:48Speaker 9: the past, but just my first time I've been on
- 48:51Speaker 9: the team and they won like the year before, and
- 48:53Speaker 9: just being here so far, of course, I've seen the
- 48:56Speaker 9: championship mentality, the championship detail, and and and just how
- 49:00Speaker 9: we practice, how we go about our meetings, how we
- 49:02Speaker 9: go about like walkthroughs, and just this training camp. It's
- 49:05Speaker 9: been different ever since I got here. In the off season,
- 49:07Speaker 9: it's been different. Honestly, how we did off season training
- 49:10Speaker 9: was different, and there's more intention and everything we were doing.
- 49:14Speaker 9: And I love it here honestly, and it's a blessing
- 49:18Speaker 9: to be I'm glad to be here, just to be
- 49:19Speaker 9: part of this team and honored to be on this team, honestly,
- 49:21Speaker 9: and so i'm register you know what happens.
- 49:24Speaker 2: So, yeah, how does that intent show up? Mike McDonald
- 49:27Speaker 2: talks a lot about empowering the players and involving them
- 49:29Speaker 2: in the process, and what's different about the intent you're
- 49:33Speaker 2: talking about here?
- 49:34Speaker 9: I would say it's just it's like laser focus like everything,
- 49:37Speaker 9: Like there's an intention in every single call we're doing.
- 49:41Speaker 9: It's a focus for a player for every single thing
- 49:43Speaker 9: he's doing. And I feel like they don't take like
- 49:47Speaker 9: distraction on well here. I feel like, if you want
- 49:51Speaker 9: to play, if you want to play a lot of
- 49:52Speaker 9: you have to play well. You have to be focused,
- 49:54Speaker 9: especially for this defense. And that's why this team was
- 49:57Speaker 9: so successful. It's because of those things. And it takes that, honestly,
- 50:01Speaker 9: and so that I would say that that's the main thing.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm assuming you've done them already. The walking talks. Yeah,
- 50:07Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's can you tell the listeners who don't understand
- 50:10Speaker 2: what is that? Coaches taking a small group of players,
- 50:13Speaker 2: what kind of players have you mixed with and gotten
- 50:15Speaker 2: to know that you normally wouldn't know. And what are
- 50:17Speaker 2: those walking talks? What do you get? What have you
- 50:19Speaker 2: learned about other players in yourself? About that?
- 50:21Speaker 9: Basically, they break the whole team down in like groups,
- 50:23Speaker 9: probably like fifteen groups. I would say, it's probably less
- 50:26Speaker 9: and more and we all like go to a certain
- 50:29Speaker 9: part of the facility and we all get together. It
- 50:31Speaker 9: could be it's not just defense or not just offens.
- 50:34Speaker 9: You could be meeting with the equipment manager. You just
- 50:36Speaker 9: you know, you don't know, you know, some of you
- 50:38Speaker 9: may not even talk to them on a day to
- 50:39Speaker 9: day basis. And and for me, I've never did anything
- 50:42Speaker 9: like that, you know, And I don't know if they
- 50:44Speaker 9: were doing it last year. I'm atty sure they were,
- 50:47Speaker 9: But stuff like that. That's why, you know, like when
- 50:50Speaker 9: you get in those big games, get big situations, everyone
- 50:53Speaker 9: knows each other. Like you get to the sideline, you know,
- 50:56Speaker 9: the team clinistions is talking who I met Like, I mean,
- 50:59Speaker 9: I met him before, but you know, this is the
- 51:01Speaker 9: first time I actually heard him talk for like a
- 51:03Speaker 9: long period of time, and like, you know, he's one
- 51:06Speaker 9: of those guys that's gonna be on the sideline when
- 51:07Speaker 9: you're in the game, you know, you come, you have
- 51:09Speaker 9: a good play, and he's celebrating you like you know him,
- 51:12Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying, Like, but before it might
- 51:14Speaker 9: not be that, you know, when I was other places,
- 51:18Speaker 9: I really didn't get that, you know, And so you know,
- 51:21Speaker 9: I'm very encouraged being we did it yesterday and I
- 51:23Speaker 9: mean not yesterday, two days ago, and I was very encouraged.
- 51:25Speaker 9: It's just meeting people I haven't met before, and there's
- 51:28Speaker 9: rookies in there as well, and then the questions they ask,
- 51:31Speaker 9: you know, with that is very intentional as well. And
- 51:34Speaker 9: so I feel like with the rookie I had, and
- 51:37Speaker 9: there's a rookie receiver, and I truly believe the questions
- 51:41Speaker 9: I was answering probably helped him, you know, and where
- 51:44Speaker 9: he's at in his career right now and just being
- 51:46Speaker 9: able to look back and stuff like that. So, yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 9: what did they ask you shared? Just like like one
- 51:53Speaker 9: question like what's the hardest thing about being in the league,
- 51:57Speaker 9: being in an NFL? And from me, I would say,
- 52:01Speaker 9: it's the constant competition and the constant you know, I
- 52:04Speaker 9: literally said this is my answer. I was like everyone
- 52:07Speaker 9: in this group. Player wise, we probably all was like
- 52:09Speaker 9: the top player wherever we came from, right, But the
- 52:12Speaker 9: league is not like that anymore. And and and you
- 52:15Speaker 9: kind of have to start over in a way, just
- 52:17Speaker 9: like from high school to college, that transition, there's a
- 52:19Speaker 9: whole nother transition where you get to the league. And
- 52:21Speaker 9: it took me time to figure figure my way out.
- 52:24Speaker 9: And I truly believe now I'm at the at the
- 52:26Speaker 9: point where I've kind of figured it out now, but
- 52:29Speaker 9: before it took me time. Man, it really did. And
- 52:32Speaker 9: so just explaining that whole process, I truly believe it
- 52:35Speaker 9: probably did help that rookie out. And what I basically
- 52:38Speaker 9: told them was like, now because everyone is so talented,
- 52:41Speaker 9: because you know, the competition is as level it is
- 52:44Speaker 9: a eleven playing field. Now it's more so about Okay,
- 52:47Speaker 9: my sleeping habits, my recovery habits, my eating habits, you know,
- 52:51Speaker 9: stuff like that. In college you can get away with,
- 52:53Speaker 9: you know, in the NFL, those are the separators.
- 52:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 52:56Speaker 9: It could be that little sit one play, two plays
- 52:59Speaker 9: and that's all it. Sometimes, you know, and just because
- 53:02Speaker 9: I got an our hour sleep more than you did,
- 53:04Speaker 9: you just never know, like it could be that one
- 53:06Speaker 9: that one play of mental fatigue or that one lasp
- 53:09Speaker 9: of it, and and you know a difference between making
- 53:12Speaker 9: a play and not making a plane. So that especially
- 53:14Speaker 9: what I said, and I'm pretty sure it helped us guys.
- 53:16Speaker 2: So yeah, spoken like a twenty six year old man
- 53:18Speaker 2: instead of a twenty one two yea, yeah, of course.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Noigg bnogaa be the cornerback, was the first round draft
- 53:25Speaker 2: pick of the Miami Dolphins in twenty twenty. He played
- 53:27Speaker 2: three seasons for Miami. He played one season for Dan
- 53:30Speaker 2: Quinn as a defensive coordinator for the Miami or the
- 53:33Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys and then the Washington Commanders twenty twenty four
- 53:36Speaker 2: to twenty five, when Dan Quinn became the head coach.
- 53:39Speaker 2: That's his NFL journey. Noeigg Bnogaby came from Auburn University
- 53:43Speaker 2: in Alabama in the SEC. And you're something you've been
- 53:48Speaker 2: doing since training camp is being a kick returner. You
- 53:50Speaker 2: did that at Auburn too, but you were a wide
- 53:52Speaker 2: receiver when you arrived at Auburn.
- 53:54Speaker 9: Yeah, it was when did they convert you to My
- 53:57Speaker 9: first year so like in that little spring training period,
- 54:00Speaker 9: I would say that's when I was that first year.
- 54:02Speaker 9: I was really just a special teams player, playing like
- 54:05Speaker 9: the corner on punt return and I was kind of
- 54:07Speaker 9: really good at that and it was just really you
- 54:09Speaker 9: just had to run down there with him, and so
- 54:10Speaker 9: I was really good at that. But still I had
- 54:12Speaker 9: never played like, you know, corner for that at all
- 54:15Speaker 9: defense at all. In that offseason, I think we had
- 54:18Speaker 9: Carson Davis, who's you know, with the Patriots now and
- 54:21Speaker 9: who's had an amazing career and he left that year
- 54:24Speaker 9: and they needed some help at the corner acquisition and
- 54:27Speaker 9: they asked me, and you know, I did it.
- 54:28Speaker 2: So yeah, and since you didn't played receiver at all
- 54:32Speaker 2: at all ever since, I mean of course that there
- 54:35Speaker 2: was like I was gonna play both, like you know,
- 54:37Speaker 2: Travis Hunter dinner, but I just went ahead and you know,
- 54:40Speaker 2: stuck the corner. So and your parents were both track
- 54:44Speaker 2: and field and representing Nigeria in the Olympics.
- 54:47Speaker 6: Yea.
- 54:48Speaker 2: His mother her father Festus, was a triple jumper at
- 54:50Speaker 2: the ninety six Atlanta Olympics for Nigeria. His mother faith
- 54:53Speaker 2: at four by four hundred meter relay member for the
- 54:56Speaker 2: Nigerian team at the nineteen ninety two Barcelona Games. You
- 54:59Speaker 2: were tracked long jumping trip to jump at Auburn as well.
- 55:02Speaker 2: What was that like as an SEC athlete? I mean
- 55:05Speaker 2: SEC track and football are pretty high level. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:08Speaker 2: How did your days structure? How did the see what
- 55:11Speaker 2: did the season's overlap at all the training? Did you
- 55:13Speaker 2: not train as much in football as you're in track
- 55:15Speaker 2: and field? How did you balance all that?
- 55:17Speaker 9: So, like, as soon as the season was over with it,
- 55:19Speaker 9: that's basically when track was picking up some of this
- 55:21Speaker 9: football season. So it didn't really you know, intertwine with
- 55:23Speaker 9: each other too much, I would say, But honestly, during
- 55:26Speaker 9: the spring period I wasn't really with the football team
- 55:28Speaker 9: at all. It's really just all track. And I learned,
- 55:31Speaker 9: you know, real quick that you know, you know, track
- 55:34Speaker 9: is different, you know, in SEC wise, and so if
- 55:37Speaker 9: I'm going to fully be into this thing like and
- 55:39Speaker 9: be like good at it, at least I still did
- 55:41Speaker 9: pretty good honestly, But to be where I want to be,
- 55:43Speaker 9: which is, you know, great at everything I do, I
- 55:45Speaker 9: knew I was gonna have to either choose one, you know,
- 55:48Speaker 9: And so I ended up doing it both years. I
- 55:50Speaker 9: did in the last year, I went to the drivet
- 55:52Speaker 9: after that, so I didn't get to do it, but
- 55:54Speaker 9: I'm glad I did it, honestly, you know. But it
- 55:56Speaker 9: really showed me how much, you know, it takes to
- 55:59Speaker 9: be successful at that level, and already there's no telling
- 56:02Speaker 9: how much it takes, you know, And then that's what
- 56:03Speaker 9: football and all these other sports as well, at a
- 56:06Speaker 9: professional level as well, SEC is basically, I feel like
- 56:10Speaker 9: it's now professional wise and track and fieldwise. So yeah,
- 56:13Speaker 9: it was, It was It was interesting, It was fun.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're not that old, but you were eight
- 56:17Speaker 2: years ago, nine years ago at Auburn you went when
- 56:19Speaker 2: you had to go to school too.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 56:22Speaker 2: How did you balance all of that's eligible?
- 56:24Speaker 9: And I just you know, I mean, I come on,
- 56:27Speaker 9: my parents, you know, they migrated from over here and
- 56:31Speaker 9: they were my mom for instance. I mean both of them,
- 56:33Speaker 9: they were doing nursing school at the same time doing
- 56:36Speaker 9: track as well, you know. So I mean, my sister's
- 56:39Speaker 9: in nursing school now and she tells me how heart
- 56:40Speaker 9: is and she's not doing track right now and this
- 56:42Speaker 9: is and she says how hard it is now, So
- 56:44Speaker 9: you know, ill coot us to my mom. I can't
- 56:46Speaker 9: even believe how she did it. But that just shows you,
- 56:48Speaker 9: you know, like where I come from and like what's
- 56:50Speaker 9: inside of us and in this blood line, and that's
- 56:53Speaker 9: how I was able to get through all of that,
- 56:55Speaker 9: you know. And so because I have those are my
- 56:57Speaker 9: parents and what they did, you know, it's the reason
- 56:59Speaker 9: I'm here now.
- 56:59Speaker 2: So, yeah, do you go back to Nigerian Sea family.
- 57:02Speaker 9: I haven't been back since I was like four or four,
- 57:04Speaker 9: So I'm planning to go back one day.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so you don't remember it or you're too
- 57:07Speaker 2: young to remember.
- 57:09Speaker 9: I remember being hot, that's about yeah.
- 57:12Speaker 2: No, they'd been not going to the new Seahawks cornerback
- 57:14Speaker 2: signed from two years from the Washington Manage, joining us
- 57:17Speaker 2: here from Seahawks training camp on ninety three point three.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Kg R tell us about dan Quinn the impact he
- 57:23Speaker 2: had on you in Dallas. I'm assuming he's the one
- 57:26Speaker 2: instrumental in getting you to Washington because of your time
- 57:28Speaker 2: with Dallas. What do you think of dan Quinn and what.
- 57:31Speaker 9: Can you Oh, man, I have so much respect for
- 57:33Speaker 9: for dan Quinn. I literally probably wouldn't be sitting in
- 57:35Speaker 9: the seat without him. Like I said, the I transitioned
- 57:39Speaker 9: to playing corner late, especially in college and so coming
- 57:43Speaker 9: into the league, yes I went first round, I was
- 57:45Speaker 9: twenty years old, but there was still like all I
- 57:48Speaker 9: really did in college was really just like press, press
- 57:50Speaker 9: man and stuff like that. But even I learned, I
- 57:53Speaker 9: still didn't even know too much about that coming into
- 57:55Speaker 9: the league, So there was a lot of learning and developing.
- 57:58Speaker 9: I literally had to start all over with the said
- 58:00Speaker 9: I had of defense and what all of it was.
- 58:03Speaker 9: And when I got to Dallas that fourth when I
- 58:05Speaker 9: got traded that third or fourth year, there were things
- 58:08Speaker 9: I learned there that I hadn't even learned at all,
- 58:10Speaker 9: Like that probably some most corners probably learned in high school.
- 58:14Speaker 9: I didn't learn till then. And so just basic stuff
- 58:17Speaker 9: like how to not saying I didn't wasn't taught properly
- 58:20Speaker 9: in Miami. I was, but like that was a different
- 58:23Speaker 9: scheme and it required different techniques, and when I got
- 58:26Speaker 9: to Dallas, it required a different type of techniques, and
- 58:28Speaker 9: those techniques I had never really did before, as far
- 58:30Speaker 9: as just playing off coverage the right way, not just
- 58:33Speaker 9: simply backpeddling, but but reading my keys and stuff like that.
- 58:36Speaker 9: And I had never played nickel and in something that
- 58:39Speaker 9: was something there where I was practicing it. I was
- 58:41Speaker 9: just a practice player that year. Honestly, I didn't really
- 58:43Speaker 9: play that much when I got there in Dallas. And
- 58:45Speaker 9: then it translated after that to that season and dan
- 58:49Speaker 9: Quinn went to Washington and I got an opportunity to
- 58:51Speaker 9: go there, and I had a really great year that
- 58:54Speaker 9: year just playing nickel, and but again that was my
- 58:55Speaker 9: first year ever playing slot, and so there was a
- 58:58Speaker 9: lot of just new things I just didn't know before.
- 59:01Speaker 9: And came back a year ago last year and and
- 59:04Speaker 9: did slot and played outside as well, and so but well,
- 59:07Speaker 9: what Dan and his coaching staff taught me, it was
- 59:09Speaker 9: so much, man, it was so much detail and about
- 59:12Speaker 9: defense itself, about like the proper mentality it takes to
- 59:15Speaker 9: play defense in this NFL. And I feel like this
- 59:18Speaker 9: defense and dan Quinn's defense kind of really does like
- 59:21Speaker 9: mess with each other as far as like mentality goes.
- 59:23Speaker 9: Of course, it's not the same, you know, you know,
- 59:26Speaker 9: install wise and stuff like that. But I feel like
- 59:30Speaker 9: that's a reason why you know, the Seahawks wanted, you know,
- 59:33Speaker 9: wanted me, honestly, is because I come from that background.
- 59:36Speaker 9: And so all kudos of dan Quinn, I literally would
- 59:39Speaker 9: not be here without him, So, yeah, I have so
- 59:40Speaker 9: much respect for him.
- 59:41Speaker 4: To you, I'm here with you.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Knows all about that.
- 59:46Speaker 4: Yeah, he's got a lot of fans here in Seattle.
- 59:49Speaker 5: I remember when he came out here after they won
- 59:52Speaker 5: that Super Bowl. I took him to a Mariner game
- 59:54Speaker 5: and people were coming up to him and being dapping
- 59:57Speaker 5: him up and everything, and he didn't understand why.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: And I'm like, Dune, coach, you just won the Super Bowl.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: He's he's got that humility.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: I'm just so glad that you learn so much from him,
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: because he's not only a great coach, a fantastic coach,
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: but a really good person.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: Yeah he is. Dan Quinn went for excuse me, dan
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: Quinn took no. From eight percent of defensive snaps, like
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: you said, mostly special teams in Dallas in twenty twenty
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: three to seventy six percent of snaps playing in nickel. Course,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: we know nickel in the NFL, and how prevalent it is.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: The game comes at you faster there. What's the trick?
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: What is the key to playing nickel versus outside corner
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: and switching your game from the two positions.
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: Nickel is a lot of you're into now you're in
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: the box, you're like another linebacker. So with linebackers, what
- 1:00:46Speaker 9: I had learned is, you know, they're always reading their keys.
- 1:00:48Speaker 9: You have to read run pass. Now at corner, you know,
- 1:00:51Speaker 9: I mean you do have to read run pass at times,
- 1:00:53Speaker 9: but more so you're on the island. You have one
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: guy one or two guys or something that you're reading.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: But at Nickel, you really have to know the whole
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: defense with somebody else that's doing and you know, there's
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: a lot of people who's like leaning on you to
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: know your job so they can do their job the
- 1:01:06Speaker 9: right way. With the corner, you can kind of like
- 1:01:08Speaker 9: be you know, by yourself and somebody else's job may
- 1:01:11Speaker 9: not be you know, literally connected to yours, I would say,
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: But Nickel, like you're in the box like you're you're
- 1:01:16Speaker 9: in you're reading run plays, past plays, and you have
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: different responsibilities and in the determines to call right and
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: so it's it was a lot of it's a lot
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: of mental strain, I would say, at Nickel, and to
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: be able to play it at a high level, like
- 1:01:30Speaker 9: I mean, this team we have, we have Witherspoon and
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: the stuff he's able to do. Just just to say
- 1:01:34Speaker 9: something about him like literally last year, Like I remember
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: where there was one team we were preparing against and
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: I saw one play on film and he like blitz
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: and then just took off and tackled the tackle the
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: tight end like on the opposite side of the field.
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: And I remember watching that when we were going into
- 1:01:51Speaker 9: into meetings, and I literally came out that meeting. I
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: was like, man, I need to play like that, like
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: and like there's so much inspiration, you know, and so
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: like all of this back to him. I don't even
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: have to say that, but I have so much I
- 1:02:04Speaker 9: haven't even talked about, honestly have. I have so much
- 1:02:06Speaker 9: respect for that dude. And he literally changed away like
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: I saw like how I needed to play because I
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: saw him, and I was like, man like, I need
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: to run to the ball like that. I need to
- 1:02:16Speaker 9: change the way how my effort is. And and it
- 1:02:19Speaker 9: wasn't like I wasn't even comparing myself with him. It
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: was just like, man like, that's how you're supposed to
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: play this thing, and that's why he has all the
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: success he has.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: So I have so much respect for him. So that's
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: no monogamy. An eighth year NFL veteran talking about the
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: fourth year veteran you played. You're playing both here in
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: training camp. I noticed you at Nicol as well. How
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's system makes it multiplicity, different versatilities. How much
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: of a challenge is that and even the one word
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: calls right before the snap would jump maybe into a
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: different alignment, And how different is that for you this season?
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: It's it's it's.
- 1:02:53Speaker 9: It's interesting, but it's it's it's not something I haven't
- 1:02:56Speaker 9: done before, honestly, and so I feel like being a
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: dan quiz system. It's like it's like a perfect jail.
- 1:03:02Speaker 9: Like it's like I'm I'm becoming like who I'm supposed
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: to be in this defense. Like it's like I'm so
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: comfortable here, and it's it's weird, honestly, It's like I'm
- 1:03:10Speaker 9: becoming one with the with the calls. It's not like
- 1:03:12Speaker 9: an outward thing to me. Yes, I study, and I
- 1:03:14Speaker 9: study a lot, but it's something I've been doing. I
- 1:03:17Speaker 9: picked up my whole routine for years now, So it's
- 1:03:19Speaker 9: like it's nothing to me now. But like when the
- 1:03:22Speaker 9: defense actually starts to become like a part of you
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: and not just you, like knowing the calls, that's when
- 1:03:28Speaker 9: it becomes something else. That's when you start playing a
- 1:03:30Speaker 9: little differently. And and that's why I feel like I've
- 1:03:32Speaker 9: been doing so well recently. And so of course, you know,
- 1:03:34Speaker 9: I'm not where I want to be at and I
- 1:03:35Speaker 9: have to continue just to grow and and and and
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: I mature as well. But so far, like this defense is,
- 1:03:41Speaker 9: it is everything to me, And so yeah.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: It's a crowded defensive back for your goals for this season, sir.
- 1:03:48Speaker 9: My goals is to me is I just want to maximize,
- 1:03:51Speaker 9: you know, my potential. I true believe you know, you
- 1:03:55Speaker 9: told me. You know you know my parents are and
- 1:03:57Speaker 9: what they did, and so I believe you know I was.
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: I'm here for a reason, you know, I have a purpose.
- 1:04:01Speaker 9: I believe God gave me gifts and then he wants
- 1:04:04Speaker 9: me to use them, you know, And so I plan
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: to just maximize those gifts and whatever happens after that
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: is whatever happens with So yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: No Ig Moanogamy, welcome to Seattle. We appreciate you sitting
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: down with us on kJ all the best of you
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: and thank you too. Thanks a lot, sir. When we
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: come back, your chance to be a part of the
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: show four nine four five one on the COMADATGS text
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: line at Seahawks training camp at ninety three point three
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: kJ r FM. All right, welcome back, Greg Bell and
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: Jessmon McIntyre with you live on ninety three point three
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: KJR FM from Seahawks training camp in Renting, Day nine,
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: practice number nine, full fanfare today. They're already setting up
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: for the fans. Right out in front of me. They
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: got Chick fil A cow and a Seahawks twelve jersey.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: That's kind of an odd scene.
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: Well, Chick fil A is pretty doesn't out here these days?
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: Yes, they are. Yes, if you missed it.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: I was going to just ask you what the crowd
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: looks like, because we talked about how it had waned
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: in the past, and if it's as prevalent as it
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: was after the Seahawks hit their stride ten you know,
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: twelve years ago, it.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Hasn't spiked like you might think a Super Bowl champion
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: team would get more people out here. Five six. Right
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: before the pandemic, they were goal line to go line
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: every day on the grass fern.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Well, a lot of things have changed that don't have
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: to do with the Seahawks.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Yo, correct and society has changed, and not to mention
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: many many of these practices are smack in the middle
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: of a weekday afternoon. People have jobs and such. So no,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: they're not like standing room when we can't get in
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: sold out. They haven't been sold out per se, like
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: they won't let any more people in for a long
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: time and many summers that I can remember. But yeah,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: there used to be more people than there used to
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: be now, But yeah, things have changed. If you missed
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: our interview with Noah Igmanoghany, the veteran cornerback with an
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: interesting background. His parents both olympians for the Nigerian track
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: team in the nineties, his own track background, his love
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: for Dan Quinn, who brought it first to Dallas when
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Quinn was a defensive coinaire, then to Washington when Quinn
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: became the head coach of the Commanders, made him a
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: starter in the NFL, and he fled outside to us.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: She heard it the last segment. He wouldn't be here
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: in Sea Orks training camp in his eighth NFL season
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: if not for Dan Quinn. If you miss that interview,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: go to nine through three KGr dot com. Just when
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: we'll have the Greg Belt Show podcast up after the
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: show ends here at noon and go to you know,
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app downloaded for free if you haven't only
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: done it, go to nine through three KGr. You know
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: what the music means. A chance to be a part
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: of the show on our text line four nine, four
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: to five one and to coma Dodge text line. Yeah.
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: And we have a lot of different opinions. We have
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: some people really loving the interview that you did with Noah.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: Great interview.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: Wow, that was interest interesting, what an interesting background. And
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: also hi Jessamin and Greg uh So that coming in
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: from the two oh eight I believe is Idaho.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you, thank you. Yeah.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: But let's go back to the Mariners. Two five three
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: says Mariners in.
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: A free fall, losing your leading hr guy home run
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: guy in really for the season, and now you have
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: Taylor Ward and his monster seven home runs in the lineup.
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: The lineup is still trash. According to the two five three,
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: I don't think.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Taylor Ward had sixty one home runs over two seasons
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: with the Angels when he was their right fielder, and
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: now he's becoming on base guy who walks more. He
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: was a strikeout home run guy for many years yes.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Now he's an on guy right who is only as
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: seven home runs, So.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: Yes, which is also something that this Mariners team needs.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: They need that.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Frankly, they don't need another home run guy. This team
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: already just tries to win games with home run exactly.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: My dudes, get on base and make defenses have to
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: play you instead of just home runs. I mean, frankly,
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: defenses don't have to play the Mariners all that much.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: They don't have hit and runs to deal with. They
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: don't have to put a ball in play when there's
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: runners on base because the Mariners are trying to hit
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: home runs all the time. So the Mariners score runs,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: the fielders don't do anything. They just watch the ball
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: go over the fence or they watch them ground out
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: and flyout. I mean, there's no intricacies of like I said,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: base runners putting a stress on a defense. The stolen
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: base isn't often in play with this team. They don't
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: do hit and runs, they don't bunt, they don't stress
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: a defense. But if you've got a guy with am
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: on base of four hundred plus four hundred four to fourteen,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: I think it is against left handed pitching, that's the
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: one area that has crushed the Mariners left handed pitching
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: in the right handed batsy, we've seen enough of Rob Refsnyder.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: So now that's why they got taylor Ward. But we'll see.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: The lineup is gonna get better overnight until cal Rawley
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: and Julio Rodriguez and Josh Naylor and all of those
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: guys perform. That's just a fact. And Taylor Ward's not
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: going to change that.
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: Yeah, And I don't think that any of us thought
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: that that move would be the game changer.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: But it's not something bad. It is something that they
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: do need.
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: And I mean, what were they going to do at
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: the trade deadline this year that would give them more
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: than what the talent they have in that clubhouse is
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: capable of doing.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Yeah, you know they're capable.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: They would have had to have trade Kirby and or
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Hancock to get a massive bet that would change the lineup.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: By them, and I'm glad they didn't and I don't.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and they really solved these to me, they solved
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: their rotation problem and help their bullpen by trading Castillo.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Now you can have an extra guy in the bullpen.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: We've talked about the six starting pitchers, meaning they have
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: one fewer bullpen arm, and three of those bullpen arms
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: have been triple A guys. Well, I have a major
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: league bullpen guy who makes twenty million dollars and now
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: you're new setup guys. So they got better? Is it
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: good enough? Not until the rest of the lineup team
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: plays better?
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: Yeah, this coming in from Marcus who hails from the
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: two h six.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: That person doesn't know baseball.
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: This lineup is great now, especially if Kell and Julio
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: can go back to normal.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I don't know if great. They got a quick trying
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: to hit home runs.
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: They just have the potential they do.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: I mean, the talent is there, and we've seen it
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: time after time when we see the sparks of it.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: But yeah, a little more small ball probably could help
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: them out.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: Two five three says great. You said the Mariners don't
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: need another home run guy. Who is their home run guy.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: They have all of them think they are, and that's
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: the problem. They're not hitting home runs generally. Ken Zone
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: was on a hot streak for a little while. It
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: was Andy Rosaman early in the season, Luke Grayley early
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: in the season, Cole Young has been some. They don't
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: have a consistent home run even twenty thirty home run guy.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: That's the point. They all try to hit hor runs
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: and no one's doing it, so why not get it on?
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Bass guy? Try that for a while. Bring up Ryan
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Bliss while you're at it.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: I mean, we'll see.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Ryan Bliss has been playing center field for Triple A
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Tacoma recently. I'm not sure what the thinking is there.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: They got enough Outfelters and to call in Seattle, and
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: now they just added another one in Taylor Ward. But
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: more Ryan Bliss. Please bring him up. Make defenses have
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: to play, you make him pincherrun if you have to.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Not going to start him or I mean, we've seen
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: enough of the lineup as the way it's been constructed.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: So I think Taylor Ward's going to help. But I
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: don't think until the rest of the guys hit, I
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: don't I don't think they're gonna go in.
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: He's a piece of the puzzle, but he's not the
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: final one that you're looking for when it comes to
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: have you done puzzles, Greg, and like thousand piece puzzles
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: and there's.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: That one, yes.
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: Exactly, and then you know the dog gated or something
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: and you can't find it now He's not that guy,
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: but he could be a very substantial part of this lineup.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Four. Thanks for the great interviews, picking athletes with interesting
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: stories and not just clear shame machines. Terry from Redmond.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Thanks Terry, I like that quite a bit.
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: This is coming from Keith. Does Greg have any tricks
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: up his sleeve for the Hard Knock cameras? Maybe a
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: magic trick juggling exhibit snap us.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Perform no performances, Keith, I'm not looking forward to me.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: I'm not going to be on there. I don't know,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I don't expect. No. I saw King five when I'm
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: on with Chris Egan and Paul Silvie. They were telling
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: me that they voted me the most likely beat writer
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: to be on Hard Knocks because of my questions listening
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: answers that would be arable like Mike mcdonaldson. I don't
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: know if he's even where he's going to start the
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: open or not. But that's not I'm not doing that for.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: Performance, no job, you're a journalist.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I'm not intending to be on the show, and there's
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: nothing doubt here that anyone would put a camera on me.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: That's for sure. I'm going to drive ratings.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: I ended up on camera for the colle football part
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: of it because Mike Leach was the coach at the time. Yeah,
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: and I ended up on there, and it was my
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: halftime interview, and it was very overwhelming, where I'm used
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: to just chasing Mike Leach, but there were so many cameras,
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: so many cameras that were just blocking him from being
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: able to run from me that I did get like
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: my first Oh my gosh, we're walking and I'm interviewing you.
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: And so the interview was good because I got to
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: actually walk quickly instead of sprinting.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: After this show coming up, Jessamine, where you just tell
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: Mike Leach stories.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Oh, there's so many. I know, there's just so many.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Of them, but mostly we can't.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Ye.
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: There are probably more non airworthy ones than on airworthy ones,
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: but I can tell some really good ones from my
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: own personal experience.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, We're gonna have to do that sometimes too. Three
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: secs though, did Luis Gestilla refuse to go to the bullpen.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: I don't think he was asked. From what I've gathered,
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: why trade him to add a mid bullpen arm? Well, again,
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: math is part of the reason you trade him. Both
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: math and the money that he owed. Yeah, it says
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: they were only trying to save money, not improve the team.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: They were trying to save money. And that's how Jerry
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: Depoto keeps his job because that's what John Stanton and
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: the investors and the Mariners, well, the Coners and Marion's love.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: But I think they got better just by fixing that
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: six man rotation issue. As I mentioned the math and
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: allowing now a veteran reliever to come in, which they needed,
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: and now they have an extra bullpen arm instead of
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: six starters. I think that helps them. We'll see. My
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: opinion is it helped. It was a good move that
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: you had to fix. And the whole reason we talked about,
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: the whole reason they had the six man rotation is
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: to trade Guestillo, to keep him showcased so that he
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: was tradable. The White Sox would not have picked up
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: his contract and traded for him if he was in
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: the bullpen he was a starter, and then they traded
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: for starter, so he went right into their rotation. I'll
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: start in Boston on Thursdays. Scott Murcantal is yesterday been
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: a lot of two six It has been a lot
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: of comparisons between the dark Side and the LB dark side.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Of course, the current defense the LB the previous superwool iterations.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: For me, I would still pick the Legion to boom
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: because everyone knew what they were doing and still had
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: no answers. It's more of a guessing game for the
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: offense against coach McDonald's defense. That is true. There is
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: a lot more subterfuge and confusion of the offense done
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: by McDonald changing his alignments and calls right at the
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: snap than there was with Mike. With Pete Carroll it
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: was four to three cover three. Here we go. We're
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: not changing our Jimmies and Joe's are better than your
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: ex'es and O's. We've talked about this many times and
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: it worked until the rest of the league caught up
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: with them. It worked.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: We have a late incoming talkback that is it's relevant.
- 1:15:50Speaker 10: So what did Taylor Ward really bring to this team? Yeah,
- 1:15:52Speaker 10: you got a guy gets on base. That's awesome that
- 1:15:56Speaker 10: you need guys to hit the ball to move them
- 1:15:58Speaker 10: around those bases. In you've got what two guys hitting
- 1:16:02Speaker 10: over two sixty on this squad and eighty three oh,
- 1:16:05Speaker 10: not going to see much of an impact there. Ye again,
- 1:16:09Speaker 10: same old, same old Mariners, no big splash moves, no
- 1:16:11Speaker 10: big names.
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: What's what's new?
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: What isn't four to two five echoes that say mediocre
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: trays by a mediocre team.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: I mean that's how people feel right now.
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: Two five to three asked, is this the first season
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: of Hard Knocks with a cutdown of from ninety to
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: fifty three and one shot? No, that first changed and
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I think it was twenty twenty three.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a while ago.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Was the first year that that rule change. They used
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: to have a seventy five interminute media cut mid or
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: late August, and then seventy five down to fifty three.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Now it's ninety to fifty three. Over eleven hundred players
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: become available at one time on August thirtieth, cutdown day,
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: eleven hundred players in the league become available at one time.
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: In Hard Knocks's chronicle debt for at least the last
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: three years. But good question. In Good contact Hard Knocks

- 1:18:06Speaker 2: And he joins me here from the Seahawks facility where
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: it's filling up with fans again. You're right, it is
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: a different deal when the fans are a very different deal.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: A little more noise than traffic and a.
- 1:18:18Speaker 11: Lot of going, a lot going on, a lot going on.
- 1:18:21Speaker 11: It's uh, I heard your thing last segment about the
- 1:18:27Speaker 11: cutdown days. I remember in those days, the seventy five Yeah,
- 1:18:31Speaker 11: and now I remember Pete was. Remember how outspoken Pete
- 1:18:35Speaker 11: was about that. He was so like, why are we
- 1:18:37Speaker 11: doing this?
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Because?
- 1:18:38Speaker 11: And because he wanted and I think most coaches did.
- 1:18:42Speaker 11: He was the one guy that really kind of said it.
- 1:18:44Speaker 11: He didn't care, and he was right like especially and nowadays,
- 1:18:48Speaker 11: I mean, nobody playing in the first preseason game too,
- 1:18:52Speaker 11: maybe makes no sense. That was what I think that
- 1:18:55Speaker 11: was his biggest thing is likely by the time we
- 1:18:56Speaker 11: get to the fourth preseason game, because there's still four
- 1:18:58Speaker 11: back then, I don't have guys to play that I
- 1:19:02Speaker 11: want to play, right, you know. And yet the owners
- 1:19:04Speaker 11: want to have that fourth preseason game because they put
- 1:19:06Speaker 11: money in their pockets.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: So but yeah, we're gonna go down to two soon.
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: It's gonna be eighteen regular season games in two preseason
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: games that's coming. What will the players make the owners
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: give up in order to do that? I say it
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: should be grass fields. There are other things you could
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: make in the CBA.
- 1:19:22Speaker 11: So the earliest EFL could happen is when twenty eight, right,
- 1:19:25Speaker 11: because they've already had the schedule. There's something that came
- 1:19:28Speaker 11: out with the schedule in twenty twenty seven, not the schedule.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: But well, the scheduled the super Bowl date. That's right, Yeah,
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: they set the super Bowl. That's what it was, yea,
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: which triggered it's the whole schedule, and they can't have
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: an eighteenth season a game in the season with the
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: super Bowl date set there is that would be twenty
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: twenty eight. Twenty right in twenty thirty is when the
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: CBA ends. But the NFL holds an option to renegotiate
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: this CBA based on new media rights deals that they
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: have that option too, and there are mechanisms for them
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: to go to the players before two. I wonder.
- 1:20:01Speaker 11: I wonder, Greg, if you don't get in front of
- 1:20:02Speaker 11: that CBA situation.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: With that being.
- 1:20:05Speaker 11: Said, with the the with eighteen game schedule, all that
- 1:20:09Speaker 11: and everything else involved, as you mentioned, get in front
- 1:20:12Speaker 11: of that sooner than later. And here's why you're gonna
- 1:20:15Speaker 11: watch another league go in the lockout, strike, whatever they
- 1:20:17Speaker 11: want to call it next year. It might be a lockout,
- 1:20:19Speaker 11: it might be strike, who knows what it is with MLB.
- 1:20:21Speaker 11: I mean, I think that's we all believe that's inevitable. Right,
- 1:20:23Speaker 11: So get in front of this thing, man, keep keep
- 1:20:27Speaker 11: your status as the juggernaut. I mean that the NHL
- 1:20:30Speaker 11: got it done early, the NBA got it done early.
- 1:20:33Speaker 11: If football gets done early, just makes baseball look as
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: dumb as ever, which that's how baseball is or just.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Stupid baseball is about this mobile. There's just the dumbest
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: league in that before it canceled a World Series.
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: You know, baseball just says thank God for the w
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: NBA Otherwise we would be the dumbest people on the planet.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: But on the on the field yesterday, I wanted to say,
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: what did what do you think of Bud Clark getting
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: the nickname and Warria right away?
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: Fire hose, learn it as you go. Yeah, I think
- 1:21:04Speaker 11: you're just it makes sense to do it now. Anybody
- 1:21:07Speaker 11: can I can't see I can't he just body wise,
- 1:21:09Speaker 11: I can't see him being there. Yeah, right, it doesn't
- 1:21:11Speaker 11: make sense. But normal what you had today. We are
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: going to check in. I believe Charles Cross will join
- 1:21:20Speaker 11: us early. Do a little hard hard knocks conversation.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: Got a little I.
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: Got a little rundown in my pocket that we'll go
- 1:21:27Speaker 11: through at some points. Give away some cornhole stuff. Oh,
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: let's see what else. Joe San also joining us and
- 1:21:35Speaker 11: John Londday So yeah, busy show.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: John lenn Man for the giants in the San Francisco
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: media right now. Even their flagship radio station doesn't like him. Yeah.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Ends up next from Seahawks training camp Jess McIntyre. Thanks
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: back at the studio, Greg Bell and Jess Man will
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: be back tomorrow. Thanks for listening. Ends up next to
