- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans welcome into Duval daily presented by Genjag.com and fueled by brass tax coffee right now.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: We were just talking Jaguar's training camp story lines.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: We we've been through a week and a half of practices now and there's a lot that's happened.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot that's happened in terms of injuries in terms of just players kind of rising to the occasion, big picture thoughts, all these different things.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars have
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: One more practice and one more walk through before they head to New Orleans for joint practices and then their first pre-season game.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we are right there, folks.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: The first regular season game is September 13th for the Jax.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: We are right about a month away from that.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, football is back.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Football is back in a big way and there's been a lot of fans out there at training camp, which has been really cool to see, honestly, especially yesterday,
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's been good throughout, but yesterday was packed.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: The Scrimmage Friday was packed.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: People are excited.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: As they should be, the Jaguars are a franchise that feels like they're on the precipice of creating a real culture.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think the culture is created, but a real winner sustained winner.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: In order to do that,
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to continue attacking things the way they are and not really resting on their laurels or anything that they've done to this point, but trying to build.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, we're gonna get into all of it.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.

- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: So a shout out to Brassax Coffee right now.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at Jaguars, looking at their training camp story lines, I think it's appropriate to just start with injuries.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: Cause that's like,
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: the most concrete thing right now.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: So you're still waiting on cold inland and to come back.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Ne injury suffered week 18 last year, the plan is for him to be ready for week one.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: Walker Little is also down right now.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't been missing a ton of time, but since Friday, I've been missing a little bit and it's just kind of a wait and see, we don't really have an update on that right now where he's at.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Emmanuel Pregnant, same thing.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Kaiser got injured early in camp, Jack was back up line-backer, second-year player.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's still down.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: We have received an update on him the day after it happened.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's expected to be back during training camp.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: Patrick McCary's still not taking team reps, which isn't a new development that's been the same way the entire camp so far.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Garrett DeGeorgio, who you know.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Bottom of the roster, bottom of the 90-man roster type of offensive linemen, he had to be placed on IR.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: Tristan Colone retired, so there's been a lot happening on the offensive line, clearly.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the Jaguars, they did sign Sam Mooster for in, Geron Christian, due to these offensive line situations.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think Mooster for they brought in after Colone retired.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Draw on Christian, they brought in when they placed the Georgia on season ending hour.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: So there's all that going on with the offensive line, right?
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: You have Christian Braswell who started not doing any team stuff, but has done a little bit of team stuff this week, he's done an individual, again, Colvian Lannon,
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: Working off to the side, preparing to get back from the active PUP.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Quentin Morris was injured towards the end of the team's Grimmajom Friday.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Zach Derfie, Edd Rusher, rookie, seventh round pick, did not practice Sunday.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: Jared Bartlett went down with an injury that was going to end his season.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like for the Jaguars at least and they signed Jalani to Vai.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: to replace him.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: So there's been some injury stuff.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: I would say, there aren't any major problems right now outside of the fact that Colvin and Lannan is still not right.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like all this offensive line stuff.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: If Colvin and Lannan is back for a week one, which is the plan, which is what is expected, then it all is probably okay.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: But obviously you won't walk a little back.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: You want a manual pregnante to be getting these valuable reps as a rookie and training camp.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: But when it comes to like winning games right now, what you need is Colvann Landon back.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: Anton Harrison, it seems like he's your left tackle moving forward.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: There's no official comment on that, but it seems like that's what's the case going on.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then so you talk about Colvann Landon at right tackle.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to Patrick McCary,
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it seems like if he had to play, he could.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that he's the locked in starter at right guard right now.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Walker Little has competed there.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: But again, he's down for the moment.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen Jonah Monheim there.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen Wyatt.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: My loom there.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that's just kind of a wait and see situation.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the offensive line injuries is the only thing that's a little bit unsettling right now.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as far as, you know, Jalani to buy, he, he practiced on Sunday, the veteran line backer.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's been around the league, Anthony Camponele, very familiar with him.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a pretty good situation for a backup to come in with due to an injury.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then getting into some storylines beyond just the injuries, I feel like big picture, you have two units.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's offense and the Jaguar's defense.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Great coaching, great players, whether it's like all the guys that have to contribute on special teams from offense and defense or the actual specialists, Cam, Little Logan, Coke, Ross, Matt, is like awesome.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: Good to go, locked in.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguars offense and defense, they've been trading punches.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: Both in the passing game and the running game.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: You've had a lot of ones versus twos on both sides.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: but you've also had more and more ones v ones throughout this last week.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: And there's been, again, they're trading punches and people forget the Jaguars had a top 10 offense last year.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars had a top 10 defense last year.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: These two units are very, very good.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then you drop in Travis Hunter on both units.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Minor improvements here in their Jacobi Myers was not here in training camp last year.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. playing the best ball he has played in training camp by a significant margin.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter is playing very well on both sides.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, these are two really good units.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to have a perfect training camp from Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguar is often to get to this defense and vice versa.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: It just is what it is.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think that there's a little bit of, you know, why isn't the offense playing but the
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: is it really really good unit?
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I think that iron sharpened iron is, it's a cliche for a reason.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's true and I think that these jag wars are getting each other ready to take on opponents and we're going to start seeing that here this week.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: The top skill position players on offense to me have looked really really good.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned Brian Thomas Jr. playing good football.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: best football we've seen him play in a training camp.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: Again, by far, most consistent football.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi Myers, he had early on, he had a few drops that were kind of uncharacteristic, but this past week or so, he's really cleaned that up and played really good consistent football, which is what you expect from a player like Jacobi Myers.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then Parker Washington, I mean, he's been maybe the biggest star in all of camp.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: Seriously, he has been maybe the Jaguar's best player and he is probably the Jaguar's hardest-working player first in the building, right, so it's been awesome to see him ball ball out, but really
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: All three of the top receivers, plus Travis Hunter has done a really good job when he's getting his opportunities.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then the work you wide receivers that you drafted have been really good.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Cameron and CJ Williams especially.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then Austin Tramel, doing his thing in training camp too.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's out of really good training camp.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: Probably not gonna be on the active roster, but can definitely be a practice squad guy for you that you feel comfortable with.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: So those receivers have been great.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: You look at what the Nate Borgacher, your first pick in the draft this year, 56 overall in the second round.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's been excellent in the run game.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's fired up about it and he's also caught everything thrown his way.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: Tanner Koziel has made plays.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, it feels like it's been and then the running backs too I mean, Lee Quint Allen has made him plays in the passing game.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Bacial Tutan is having a much better camp than he had last year.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez is showing off his power in a big way, especially when the pads are on.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: So it does feel like that skill position group on offense has been really impressive.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: And again, against a very talented defense position battles.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: line back or weak side.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: You got Branson Coleman, you got Ventura Miller.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: I still think it's a coin flip who they're going to roll with.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: My initial take was Ventura Miller just because of the experience he has.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: But it could go either way and I honestly do think at this point that they're probably both going to have time out there.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in real games, regular season, Branson Cohn was probably his skill set leans a little bit more towards defending the past.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Men's drum millers skill set leans a little bit more towards defending the run.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's also gonna be times when neither of them are out there because you know, the jags are gonna have four corners or three safeties out there.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of safety, I was hoping to see a little bit of a position battle between Caleb Ransaw, Eric Murray.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's happening.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: Eric Murray has been too consistent, too good in this defense.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe, again, three safety sets may be a killer answer out there, but I think that Murray is holding down the fort.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be Antonio Johnson and Eric Murray is your starting safeties.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: I feel pretty confident about that.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: I guess you could say there's a battle at running back, but I still think it's situational between Chris Rodriguez and Basial Tutan.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: I also just kind of think Basial Tutan's probably going to get more run in
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: neutral script, you know, in between the 20s, just a random play, I would probably say basal tootin would get more run than Chris Rodriguez.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez will probably be more short yardage, more goal line.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly, I think tootin has the advantage when it comes to pass down work, but then you also have Lee Quinn Allen, who's great with the pass down work.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: not a lot of real
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: can't battles for like starting positions.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: I do think the Jaguar is backup edge players are doing what the team really wants them to do.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that you're gonna see any veterans being added to the mix because you have zactor fee and obviously got to see what's up with him.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: But zactor fee and BJA green, who are winning one-on-ones in team and getting in the backfield as patchrangers.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have Danny Stricko
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: and Wesley Williams who are, you know, execute your assignment type players, set the edge, work on games and stunts up front and just do your job, and they're doing that too.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so you kind of have this nice rotation behind the Josh Heinz Allen.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: and drive on walker of two guys that are kind of just these like execute glue guys tough hardworking and then two guys that in tactor fee and BJ Green kind of have that explosiveness and speed to really do something as past rosers.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like that's kind of the direction you're moving in there and
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Javarmohamed, he deserves to be mentioned.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's clearly the Jaguar's best corner right now that is not a Jordan Lewis or a Travis Hunter, Buster Brown, Jarian Jones.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the team in my opinion.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any ways not on the team.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to be a backup, you have to play special teams and he's been doing a good job on special teams from what I've seen so far.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I would definitely have him on the 53.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then the one thing I would say outside offensive line and Jerry's, which we mentioned already, Buster Brown, to me, just hasn't been as impactful as he was last year at this time.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's a big deal.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to be ready to go for the regular season.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he has made some plays.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like he hasn't done anything.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: But like when I think about what he's done compared to Travis Hunter, Jarian Jones, Jordan Lewis, even Jabar Muhammad, all of those guys have made a lot more plays.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not like Buster Brown hasn't had opportunities to make more plays on the ball than he has.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, it hasn't quite been as sharp
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, as it was last year, obviously it would be helpful to have the ability to watch these replays and rewatch these practices, which the Jaguars up.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Staff obviously is doing, but I think Buster Brown will be fine.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: He just had less of an impact than some of those other guys we mentioned.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: And look, if somehow Buster Brown's play kind of drops off a little bit, you have other guys that are playing really well that you can put out there.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jarian Jones has
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: Unity's in spot, even if Buster Brown isn't quite what he was last year, which I still fully expect him to play the way he was last year, which was a really, really good corner in this system, which is a zone-based system, where I think you have Matthew Erujo coming in and giving them a little bit more technical work, focused work on being able to play match in these zones a little bit more, when things kind of break down a little bit.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, outside of offensive line, I think you're in a great spot right now, and offensive line obviously is a very, very big deal, but it feels like Colvin landing as long as he's back, you're gonna be okay.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he'd be back.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's the plan.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: He looks good out there.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's not practicing right, but you know, he looks like he's moving pretty good.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll just have to wait and see, but yeah, no practice today, they have a walk through tomorrow and then a practice Wednesday and then again.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: going out to New Orleans Wednesday after practice I guess to have that joint practice with the Saints on Thursday and then the first preseason game on August 15th Saturday.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe y'all of good one.
