- 0:02Speaker 1: Podcast Check it out, but Joe Logan experience Strain by
- 0:06Speaker 1: Day Joe.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Rogan podcast by Night, All Day. Gentlemen. First of all,
- 0:13Speaker 2: thank you for being here. I couldn't wait to talk
- 0:15Speaker 2: to you. Congratulations on one of the most epic accomplishments
- 0:19Speaker 2: in the history of combat sports. And that's not an understatement.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I mean it might be an understatement. I mean it's
- 0:24Speaker 2: not an overstatement. It's perfect. That was one of the
- 0:27Speaker 2: greatest nights I've ever experienced of watching anything in my life.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It was amazing. And to have you cap it off
- 0:33Speaker 2: and win the title when you're facing a guy that
- 0:37Speaker 2: everybody thought was at least number two pound for pound,
- 0:40Speaker 2: it was like him and Islam or number one and
- 0:42Speaker 2: number two, and some odds had you at six to one,
- 0:47Speaker 2: which I thought was very disrespectful. I thought, I thought, like,
- 0:52Speaker 2: this is crazy, Like six to one's crazy, Like Ily
- 0:55Speaker 2: is really good, but so's justin this is kind of
- 0:57Speaker 2: nuts like that. To have you win the way you
- 1:01Speaker 2: won in front of the fucking White House, Yeah, how'd
- 1:05Speaker 2: it feel?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Huh? You know, it's really not really yet. I was
- 1:10Speaker 1: expecting to have like an internal sense of relief that
- 1:15Speaker 1: like I don't have something to chase, because I was
- 1:18Speaker 1: always chasing this belt, and I was expecting to wake
- 1:21Speaker 1: up with like some kind of natural release of pressure.
- 1:27Speaker 1: But I don't know, I don't feel that. As the
- 1:30Speaker 1: days go by, every day I feel a little bit more,
- 1:32Speaker 1: a little bit more. Two days ago, my dad was like,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know what, what was it like waking up being
- 1:36Speaker 1: the champion? And I like, I was like, I haven't
- 1:39Speaker 1: even thought about that. And then I was, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 1: on the shitter like ten minutes later, and I was
- 1:43Speaker 1: sitting there thinking about it. I was like, Wow, I'm
- 1:47Speaker 1: fucking champion. It's fucking crazy. And yeah, it's just I mean,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I've just been on the grind for so many years now.
- 1:55Speaker 1: My dad dropped me off nineteen years ago in Colorado,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I knew nobody to wrestle, and yeah, to see where
- 2:04Speaker 1: I'm at now is just absolutely incredible. I mean there's
- 2:06Speaker 1: really no way to explain how or why, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: or like why I deserve it or I mean I
- 2:13Speaker 1: worked my ass off. I have made mistakes, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I've done things the wrong way, but I've always corrected
- 2:19Speaker 1: and got back on the path. And you know, I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think the coaches, the mentors, but mostly the coaches that
- 2:25Speaker 1: I've been you know, the team that I have around
- 2:27Speaker 1: me is a huge reason why I was able to
- 2:31Speaker 1: stay on track and just keep keep moving forward and
- 2:33Speaker 1: keep trusting that you know, I belong in the top
- 2:39Speaker 1: of the league.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Well, you've clearly shown it throughout your career and having
- 2:45Speaker 2: a great coach like Trevor. And one of the reasons
- 2:47Speaker 2: why I wanted to bring you in, Trevor, is because
- 2:48Speaker 2: you guys have a very unique relationship. First of all,
- 2:51Speaker 2: I love the YouTube series The Art of Violence fantastic
- 2:54Speaker 2: and what's great is watching two guys work together and
- 2:59Speaker 2: Trevor you being like very acutely aware of when to
- 3:02Speaker 2: pull them back, when to ramp it up, when to
- 3:05Speaker 2: push like you're you guys. Having a relationship like that
- 3:08Speaker 2: is so critical because you guys know each other so well.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You've seen him perform so many times, you've seen him
- 3:15Speaker 2: fight and perform in the gym, that you know where
- 3:18Speaker 2: he's at all the time. And having that sense of
- 3:22Speaker 2: where your fighter is at any given time in camp
- 3:25Speaker 2: because you know him so well. Boy, that's a giant advantage,
- 3:28Speaker 2: it is.
- 3:29Speaker 3: But hold on, Testies, Yeah, I think that's a huge
- 3:39Speaker 3: advantage is knowing your athlete. And you know, I've been
- 3:43Speaker 3: doing this for a long period of time, but there's
- 3:44Speaker 3: lots of coaches out there that consider their fighters their friends.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I do consider them one of my best friends, but
- 3:50Speaker 3: I put myself more in like a father position of
- 3:53Speaker 3: I need to know when to tell him the truth.
- 3:55Speaker 3: And I've got myself in trouble with that with fighters,
- 3:59Speaker 3: where you tell him that truth so hard that you
- 4:01Speaker 3: have to let them go like a child, like, hey,
- 4:03Speaker 3: if we were not in the same beliefs, go live
- 4:04Speaker 3: life and see how it is. And then when you return,
- 4:06Speaker 3: I'm still going to love you having that type of
- 4:09Speaker 3: thing where I have to be dead honest for your career,
- 4:12Speaker 3: not because it helps us now and it feels good
- 4:15Speaker 3: right now at the moment. I have to look at that.
- 4:17Speaker 3: From the time that we start, we talk about, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 3: what are his goals, and then my job is to
- 4:25Speaker 3: be an advisor, be a mentor to get him to
- 4:27Speaker 3: that place as best as I can, because these are
- 4:30Speaker 3: his goals and I want to support those. And in
- 4:32Speaker 3: the beginning of his career is his goals were to
- 4:34Speaker 3: be the most violent guy out there, the most remembered,
- 4:38Speaker 3: the guy that every time someone bought a ticket, they
- 4:41Speaker 3: remember Justin Gatchee's selling that show. And then it turned
- 4:45Speaker 3: into no, I want to have this belt, and that
- 4:47Speaker 3: was hard because we did go and not get the
- 4:50Speaker 3: belt twice. And you know, it's so cool to be
- 4:53Speaker 3: in the kind of those scenarios where it's like Dan,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you had two opportunities. Now it's never going to happen.
- 4:58Speaker 3: And that's what life is. Life is one of those
- 5:01Speaker 3: things that you keep getting up and chase your goals.
- 5:03Speaker 3: You never know how it's going to happen. And yes,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you want a dream and you want to have a
- 5:08Speaker 3: you want to have a plan. But I'll tell you
- 5:10Speaker 3: right now, through all the times that I've had championship
- 5:13Speaker 3: fighters in business, in life, the plans never work. You
- 5:18Speaker 3: always have to adjust them. But it's that dream and
- 5:20Speaker 3: that vision to get you to the top of the stairs.
- 5:22Speaker 3: You have to get up each one of those steps.
- 5:23Speaker 3: So you know, Justin went out there and wrote a
- 5:26Speaker 3: story that I don't think will ever be forgotten. And
- 5:28Speaker 3: he did it one round at a time, and that's
- 5:30Speaker 3: what impresses me because his mindset. I love the mental game.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I love to talk about the mental game, even like
- 5:37Speaker 3: Illiot is a special guy with how he uses his
- 5:40Speaker 3: mental the secret. If I see it, I believe it,
- 5:43Speaker 3: It'll happen to a point. You know. I always tell
- 5:48Speaker 3: people like, if you want, if you go down the
- 5:50Speaker 3: ice cream aisle and you're like, hey, I don't know
- 5:51Speaker 3: what ice cream I want, you're going to stand there
- 5:52Speaker 3: and go, oh, that one looks good. That one looks good.
- 5:54Speaker 3: That one. The people that are like, I want mint
- 5:56Speaker 3: chocolate chip, you get in there, you get it done,
- 5:58Speaker 3: You grab that mint chocolate chip, and you walk out,
- 6:00Speaker 3: very similar to Ilia's last three fights. He went out
- 6:02Speaker 3: there and he demanded what he wanted. His confidence got
- 6:06Speaker 3: him through that. But it makes it very hard when
- 6:08Speaker 3: you get that stale, nasty, rotten, milk fucking mint chocolate chip.
- 6:12Speaker 3: So you start to go, oh shit, what is going
- 6:14Speaker 3: to happen now? So I think the relationship that we
- 6:17Speaker 3: have is me guiding him, me pulling him back at
- 6:20Speaker 3: the strictly situation, Hey, let's pull back a little bit.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Let's let's focus on what's going on. I don't want
- 6:24Speaker 3: no distractions and having someone and he trusts that I
- 6:29Speaker 3: care about him. I love him to death. I love
- 6:31Speaker 3: his family like our relationship is so strong, and I
- 6:33Speaker 3: need that with my athletes, and I'm just blessed and
- 6:38Speaker 3: one hundred year I say honored, but more and more
- 6:40Speaker 3: importantly humbled by someone who I've never worked mental with,
- 6:44Speaker 3: who chose me different ways to the mental game of fighting,
- 6:49Speaker 3: which I feel at very high level with. Is. It's
- 6:52Speaker 3: something that if you put some put yourself around people
- 6:54Speaker 3: that make you better. This guy makes me better daily
- 6:57Speaker 3: and I'm very grateful for that.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You said something about Ilia about the fight about having expectations,
- 7:04Speaker 2: and you said, you don't have any expectations when you
- 7:07Speaker 2: fight that way, you don't you don't get thrown off.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's I think it's huge. I mean,
- 7:14Speaker 1: my expectations come from my hard work. Obviously, I expect
- 7:17Speaker 1: my body to perform. I understand that I've trained my
- 7:23Speaker 1: mind too, and you know, maybe the narcissistic tendencies in
- 7:27Speaker 1: me love showing off and performing in front of you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: thousands of people on that stage. That's that's what I
- 7:37Speaker 1: love the most about about this, and that's what my
- 7:40Speaker 1: personality like. I'm very competitive. I want to win, but
- 7:44Speaker 1: I'm never gonna lie to myself. And that's how I've
- 7:47Speaker 1: never had a coach in my entire career since four
- 7:50Speaker 1: years old of wrestling, have to pull me aside and
- 7:53Speaker 1: talk about the mental aspect of competition, because it's always
- 7:58Speaker 1: been so natural to me. I'm not sure if I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: not sure if it's because they they see that I'm
- 8:06Speaker 1: doing good and that they agree with my approach mentally,
- 8:10Speaker 1: or they don't they don't understand what's going on, or
- 8:15Speaker 1: but I've just always been so comfortable and so content
- 8:18Speaker 1: with my situation of you know, this is the competition,
- 8:22Speaker 1: it's the game. You know, I'm very competitive, I'm very petty.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I take everything personal. And yeah, when I go in
- 8:29Speaker 1: there with X, I have gone in with expectations, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: it's I said it before the fight, you know, Alia
- 8:37Speaker 1: Like I said so many true things to him, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I think it was such a It's such an asset
- 8:42Speaker 1: to tell someone the brutal truths, especially someone like him,
- 8:45Speaker 1: because it pushes them farther away from the truth. You know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: even if I tell him the exact truth and exactly
- 8:52Speaker 1: what's going to happen, and you know, you're making a
- 8:54Speaker 1: mistake by having all these expectations. And when we go
- 8:56Speaker 1: around two and when we go to around three. And
- 8:58Speaker 1: it's not going as you put dited it or wanted
- 9:01Speaker 1: it to or expected it to. Then where do you
- 9:03Speaker 1: go from there? And you know I said that exact
- 9:05Speaker 1: thing to him, and then that pushed him farther away
- 9:08Speaker 1: from it. And you know, it's.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Almost like you wanted to prove you wrong.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah, he wanted to prove He wanted to prove himself right,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know, and he was unwilling to be open to opinions.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And because obviously I don't know him, he knows him
- 9:21Speaker 1: better than himself. But you know, I, uh, I got
- 9:24Speaker 1: here because I am coachable. I got here because I listen.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I use every everything, like I posted yesterday, every person, place,
- 9:31Speaker 1: or thing that has happened to me or for me
- 9:34Speaker 1: has ultimately molded my mind and my body to be
- 9:37Speaker 1: able to deal with the situation that happened on Sunday night.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And you know I can. I can pull so much
- 9:44Speaker 1: experience from the past, my losses, my wins, setbacks, failures, accomplishments.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I mean, there was so much to learn from. You know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: every day is a learning experience and I constantly try
- 9:57Speaker 1: to learn and be better. And I don't know why
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm able to perform like that. I think, I just
- 10:05Speaker 1: think it's who I am. You know, When I when
- 10:07Speaker 1: I say I wanted to be the most exciting fighter ever,
- 10:09Speaker 1: it's not that I wanted to be the most exciting
- 10:11Speaker 1: fighter ever. That the thought of that was fucking cool
- 10:15Speaker 1: to me, you know, But I was just being me.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And I've been blessed to be able to you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: through my through my childhood, through coming from a small town,
- 10:26Speaker 1: through having you know, unwavering support from my family and
- 10:32Speaker 1: my friends, and my coaches and my teachers and everybody
- 10:37Speaker 1: from you know, for it's just crazy to to be
- 10:39Speaker 1: able to come out on top. I mean, it's just crazy.
- 10:44Speaker 2: One of the things I think was a giant factor
- 10:46Speaker 2: in the fight is that you have been in wars.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You've been in a bunch of wars, and ilia really
- 10:53Speaker 2: it only had some rough moments against Ji Herbert, you know,
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yusuf Zilau gave him some problem, but it was nothing serious.
- 11:02Speaker 2: That the wars that you've been in, these just down
- 11:06Speaker 2: and dirty brawls that you've been in, you you were
- 11:11Speaker 2: comfortable with the back and forth. You're comfortable with enduring.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You know that you're not going to break, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 2: if your body holds up, you're going to keep fighting
- 11:20Speaker 2: and you can endure. I don't think he'd ever experienced
- 11:22Speaker 2: that before. So when you didn't break in the second round,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and I think he made a mistake, and I think
- 11:28Speaker 2: you're correct about that. You said he made a mistake
- 11:30Speaker 2: by going to the ground and he hurt you to
- 11:33Speaker 2: the body.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I told Trevor yesterday, I think you know, him hurting
- 11:37Speaker 1: to my body was the reason, one of the main
- 11:40Speaker 1: reasons I won. You know, when he hit me when
- 11:44Speaker 1: I dropped, it wasn't the first time he hit me
- 11:45Speaker 1: in the body. That was probably the fourth or fifth one,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and he had landed some really clean shots and he
- 11:49Speaker 1: could probably sense that I was in trouble and hurt,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and I think that fact made him dump everything because
- 11:58Speaker 1: it was his last to take me out, and he
- 12:01Speaker 1: almost didn't take me out. But when I went down
- 12:05Speaker 1: in hindsight, it's always easy to make these decisions in hindsight,
- 12:07Speaker 1: but when I went down, you know, he would be
- 12:10Speaker 1: He's had way more more submissions than he has knockouts,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and so for him not to have that belief that
- 12:16Speaker 1: he's going to be able to go down there, especially
- 12:17Speaker 1: with the Kabivia, especially with the Charles Lolave averify, especially
- 12:20Speaker 1: with all the negativity around my grappling that, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I think he would have been foolish not to because
- 12:25Speaker 1: I would have stood back up. I would have stood
- 12:28Speaker 1: back up, and he would have charged forward, tried to
- 12:30Speaker 1: finish me. I would have jumped on his legs. I
- 12:32Speaker 1: would have pulled guard. He was gonna end up on
- 12:33Speaker 1: top of me no matter what. I wasn't gonna sit
- 12:35Speaker 1: there and trade with him again like I would have,
- 12:38Speaker 1: you know, front rolled into into grappling situations or what.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I would have made him cover me. And but I
- 12:44Speaker 1: think me getting hit is what made him completely blows
- 12:48Speaker 1: you know, Shane Carwin esque, you blow his tank, yeah,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and you know, go for the wind. And I think
- 12:55Speaker 1: that was the choice he had to make because it
- 12:57Speaker 1: was going to continue to get worse. I beat his
- 12:59Speaker 1: ass in the first round. Like it might have been
- 13:02Speaker 1: close on the scorecards, I absolutely took the first round,
- 13:04Speaker 1: but the amount of damage that I inflicted in the
- 13:06Speaker 1: first round set up the rest of the fight.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I do think it was a mistake. And you're saying
- 13:13Speaker 3: what you're saying is so correct, But what I'm saying
- 13:16Speaker 3: is from a standpoint of him demanding it, He's going
- 13:18Speaker 3: to finish you in the first two understanding the damage
- 13:22Speaker 3: that he was taking. He took big risks. He got
- 13:24Speaker 3: in there, he kept his hands on your collar bones.
- 13:25Speaker 3: He was landing really good shots. Yeah, the two body
- 13:29Speaker 3: shots before that that left hook to deliver that. The
- 13:32Speaker 3: sound it made was crazy. That last one was clean,
- 13:35Speaker 3: It was precise and deep, but you could tell it
- 13:38Speaker 3: was already there. But if he didn't put that pressure
- 13:41Speaker 3: on his self, and this is what I mean by
- 13:42Speaker 3: a mistake, is like, when you come out, you have
- 13:44Speaker 3: to know that you're going five rounds, and he knew
- 13:47Speaker 3: that he had to unleash everything right there. If he
- 13:50Speaker 3: would have been smart in that scenario saying, hey, we
- 13:52Speaker 3: got five rounds, let me step back a little bit,
- 13:55Speaker 3: let me do some damage. But also he's like, hey,
- 13:57Speaker 3: let me get you out of there quick. Justin, you know,
- 13:59Speaker 3: can't grapple, can't do all these things. What a lot
- 14:01Speaker 3: of people think, which Justin's a great grappler. And what
- 14:04Speaker 3: was so smart about you is when you get tired,
- 14:08Speaker 3: that's where the worst decisions happen. Is That's one of
- 14:11Speaker 3: my big things is coaching is we get someone tired,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and then we make them make bad decisions and then
- 14:15Speaker 3: we capitalize on that on those mistakes, Justin was able
- 14:19Speaker 3: to stay so composed here with being speared to the body.
- 14:23Speaker 3: And when you take a liver shot, it is way
- 14:25Speaker 3: different than the headshot. The headshot's like taking a shot
- 14:27Speaker 3: with your buddies at the bar. It's like, hey, let's go,
- 14:29Speaker 3: you know, But you take a body shot, you're dying.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Like your liver shot, you feel like you're dying. And
- 14:34Speaker 3: Justin all the decisions he made on the ground, from
- 14:37Speaker 3: the triangle, from the arm bar, from not being flat,
- 14:41Speaker 3: so many good decisions were made in that scenario. And
- 14:44Speaker 3: I do think it was a mistake. Obviously, there's so
- 14:46Speaker 3: many different ways it could go. But those those type
- 14:49Speaker 3: of moments and fights are what make fights great. Is
- 14:52Speaker 3: overcoming obstacles, and he.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Had set that up.
- 14:54Speaker 3: He had said it. He's like, Hey, I'm going to
- 14:56Speaker 3: overcome anything. I'm going out there, put the worst thing
- 14:59Speaker 3: out there. What do you do to be I've already
- 15:00Speaker 3: been knocked out the last second of a freaking huge
- 15:03Speaker 3: fight by Max, Like, you can't do nothing worse to me.
- 15:06Speaker 3: And that mindset, I think is something to take away
- 15:09Speaker 3: for all the fighters out there that always. I love
- 15:12Speaker 3: how you say it, expect the war always. Some of
- 15:15Speaker 3: the biggest mistakes that I've made with fighters that I
- 15:18Speaker 3: had is allowing them to think that they're going to
- 15:20Speaker 3: go through this fight easy, and then that fight becomes
- 15:22Speaker 3: super hard. You think it's going to be a war.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Then you're like, hey, wasn't as bad as I was expected.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Even if it was a little bit of a war.
- 15:27Speaker 1: They're not going to help them in that moment. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 1: there's no pulling them out.
- 15:30Speaker 3: That's fighting. Fighting, Like fighting is mentality. I look at
- 15:33Speaker 3: this like there's techniques out there and there's things like that.
- 15:35Speaker 3: What makes this sport inspirational and makes someone that want
- 15:38Speaker 3: to go out there and beat cancer because they were
- 15:39Speaker 3: inspired by a fighter. It's not the technical piece. It's
- 15:44Speaker 3: getting back up and it's okay to get knocked down.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I love I love watching people get knocked down because
- 15:49Speaker 3: my favorite part is seeing how they get up, And that,
- 15:51Speaker 3: to me is why I love fighting, is how people
- 15:55Speaker 3: get up.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, how they endure. And that was the big story
- 15:59Speaker 2: of that sucker that you figured out a way to
- 16:01Speaker 2: get through it, and the change in tempo in the
- 16:04Speaker 2: third round was very obvious because the sprint that you
- 16:07Speaker 2: have to make, like what Ilia did when he was
- 16:09Speaker 2: trying to finish you that he used so much fucking energy.
- 16:13Speaker 2: And the Great Jail sun In once said that if
- 16:15Speaker 2: you try to win by knockout and fail, you won't
- 16:18Speaker 2: win by submission. Yeah, and a lot of times that's
- 16:21Speaker 2: the case, because you know, as good as anybody, if
- 16:24Speaker 2: you fucking sprint at hard, you wail on the bag
- 16:27Speaker 2: with fucking everything you got for two minutes and then
- 16:31Speaker 2: they go time. One minute's not enough.
- 16:34Speaker 1: It's not enough, even in preparation.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that was crazy, crazy preparation.
- 16:42Speaker 1: For these fights, like I'm doing twenty thirty forty second
- 16:47Speaker 1: sprints at most. I mean that was that was a
- 16:51Speaker 1: two minute sprint for.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Him, Yes, but full out, full and there's no power everything,
- 16:56Speaker 2: full power, every punch, full power.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You don't even train for that.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Ye have spots, right, and he didn't. He was just unloading.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I mean, that's a young man with a tremendous amount
- 17:06Speaker 2: of confidence because he's a two division world champion and
- 17:09Speaker 2: he thinks he's going to go down as the greatest
- 17:10Speaker 2: of all time, and hey, he might still, he might
- 17:13Speaker 2: still what was he twenty eight?
- 17:15Speaker 1: The odds, the odds are fucking great against that right
- 17:19Speaker 1: now because.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Of that loss.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I hope he does.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I hope he does too. I hope he doesn't. I
- 17:23Speaker 1: know that he has a skill. I know that he
- 17:26Speaker 1: has the skill to be a champion again. However, I
- 17:31Speaker 1: same thing with Tony Ferguson. I didn't break Tony Ferguson's confidence.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I changed the perception of his opponents of him. And
- 17:41Speaker 1: that is a huge factor when you go in there,
- 17:43Speaker 1: like who are you fighting? What are you for? You know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: before this, he was a guy that would that you
- 17:48Speaker 1: couldn't get through, that you couldn't push through, you couldn't
- 17:51Speaker 1: survive with. And once I showed people that all you
- 17:54Speaker 1: gotta do is get through that, then nobody's ever going
- 17:57Speaker 1: to go in there with thinking that he's unbeatable now,
- 18:00Speaker 1: you know, and that that was his that was his identity,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and you know, that's gonna be such a tough task
- 18:08Speaker 1: for him to fight people that aren't scared of them.
- 18:12Speaker 2: That's interesting. That's Mike Tyson in his prime. That's Anderson
- 18:15Speaker 2: Silva in his prime where the fight was lost, But yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 2: the fight was lost before he got even got in
- 18:22Speaker 2: there physically. Uh now, I don't know what the truth is,
- 18:27Speaker 2: but all these reports are that he has two fractured
- 18:30Speaker 2: orbitals and a broken nose. Just that alone. Does the
- 18:35Speaker 2: orbitals alone, Like anytime you've got eye injuries, like anything
- 18:38Speaker 2: severe with your eyes. Long term consequences vary, you know,
- 18:43Speaker 2: psychological absolutely.
- 18:45Speaker 1: And your body is resilient. Like I'm telling you, bones
- 18:50Speaker 1: make stronger bones like that is his, his, his his order.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Bones will be strong, they will be just in the
- 18:57Speaker 3: orbital bone. I had my orbital broken and for six
- 19:01Speaker 3: months I'm doing this. My tooth to move and it's
- 19:03Speaker 3: right where my sinus cavity is. You remember when you
- 19:05Speaker 3: hit me with the spinning elbow.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Your tooth would moved to Oh, summer is great, but

- 20:06Speaker 3: I still feel this hot spot, but this is a
- 20:08Speaker 3: very weak area where your sign, this cavity is. That's
- 20:10Speaker 3: a and you you broke both orbitals and the nose. Dude,
- 20:13Speaker 3: I do believe that is Resiliams.
- 20:15Speaker 2: You ever seen nose? You ever seen the X ray
- 20:18Speaker 2: morobs nose? Did it looks like a spine? Dude?
- 20:24Speaker 3: You had thirty three Verte show.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It's literally fucking crazy.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I've had three broken noses. I've had it fixed twice.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you had it fixed. You know this
- 20:34Speaker 2: is what there? It is. That's that's Morob's nose.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Oh my god, Oh my god.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I mean that looks like a long cocaine binge right
- 20:44Speaker 3: there and took out the whole fucking left side of
- 20:46Speaker 3: his boath.
- 20:47Speaker 2: So you got hit with a sledgehammer.
- 20:48Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 20:49Speaker 2: The nose is crazy.
- 20:50Speaker 3: That is crazy.
- 20:51Speaker 2: That is like, and to fix it, he's going to
- 20:54Speaker 2: have to have no contact for like a year, and
- 20:57Speaker 2: so he's not going to fix it. He's just gonna deal.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Look how it is that the bone.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I've had my eyes fixed and my nose fixed, and
- 21:05Speaker 1: my nose was better for quality of life. Being able
- 21:09Speaker 1: to see was huge. But when your nose is broken,
- 21:12Speaker 1: like you have to understand, like getting a haircut fucking sucks.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You can't breathe your nose your mouth open the whole time.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You're constantly breathing in fucking hair Like there's there's so
- 21:22Speaker 1: much every time, every time you eat food, like it's
- 21:27Speaker 1: just there's something missing. Ye sleep, I wore a nose
- 21:31Speaker 1: trip to bed for ten years now.
- 21:33Speaker 3: You know now permanent scap because of people that thig
- 21:36Speaker 3: off all the time.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, my nose is used to it now.
- 21:38Speaker 2: But yeah, uh, when you got to fix which fight?
- 21:44Speaker 2: Was it before the Max fight?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah? Right before the Max fight?
- 21:47Speaker 2: And then you can breathe out of it perfectly. Yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 2: is it still good now?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he broke it, but he didn't break He didn't
- 21:54Speaker 1: fuck with the cartilage he broke. He actually fractured the
- 21:56Speaker 1: bone up top, so I didn't have to get a fixed.
- 21:58Speaker 2: It's another factor that when we're talking about the fight,
- 22:01Speaker 2: and you know, people were talking about this matchup with Ilia,
- 22:06Speaker 2: I said, you have to think about what he did
- 22:08Speaker 2: to physive Phyzive is a super talented striker. And then
- 22:12Speaker 2: you also have to think about the Max Holloway fight
- 22:14Speaker 2: because he was pressing in the first round, but he
- 22:16Speaker 2: got caught with a jump spinning back kick to the
- 22:18Speaker 2: fucking face. And when that was that's a that's a
- 22:22Speaker 2: game changer. And it happened at the end of the
- 22:24Speaker 2: first round, and from that it changed the tone of
- 22:27Speaker 2: the fight because it was just dead on. It was perfect. Yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 2: I couldn't landed any better.
- 22:31Speaker 1: And truth to the other matter is is psychologically I was
- 22:34Speaker 1: not I was not there. I was not prepared mentally
- 22:39Speaker 1: for the fight. When I thought Max Holloway, it was
- 22:41Speaker 1: such a different circumstance. It was, you know, a guy
- 22:43Speaker 1: that wasn't in my weight class. It was a guy
- 22:45Speaker 1: that I had never thought about fighting. It was for fun,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and that the whole experience was so different than any
- 22:54Speaker 1: other fight I've ever had when it comes to like
- 22:57Speaker 1: being mentally prepared for for a fight, what.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Do you a true to what myself, my and us
- 23:03Speaker 2: like we took.
- 23:04Speaker 3: We told him to take the fight. He didn't want.
- 23:06Speaker 3: He didn't want to take the fight. He told him
- 23:08Speaker 3: that you're going to keep the title contention fight because
- 23:10Speaker 3: that's what they promised us. That's why he was very.
- 23:12Speaker 1: In every one of you guys. Every one of you
- 23:15Speaker 1: was like, oh, something was different. It was like, well,
- 23:16Speaker 1: why didn't you guys fucking say something? You told me
- 23:20Speaker 1: the fight it was different, but like I needed to know.
- 23:23Speaker 3: He tells me to tell me. He's like this, He's
- 23:25Speaker 3: like I just didn't respect him, And I'm like, how
- 23:27Speaker 3: could you not respect Max? And I didn't catch onto it.
- 23:30Speaker 3: So it's like I'm always looking for flags and things
- 23:31Speaker 3: like that, and I take one hundred percent responsibility because
- 23:35Speaker 3: that's how we learned. Everybody makes mistakes. I remember then
- 23:37Speaker 3: Tony Ferguson fight. I didn't give any fucking water, you know,
- 23:40Speaker 3: like there's like things that we all learned from. But
- 23:43Speaker 3: the thing when he had told me that, I'm like,
- 23:44Speaker 3: how did I not catch that? Uh? From you? Cause
- 23:47Speaker 3: he's like, dude, he was a smaller guy just didn't
- 23:49Speaker 3: and and I was like, dude, Max is like one
- 23:51Speaker 3: of the guys that I look up to from the outside,
- 23:54Speaker 3: like he is talented.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I remember thinking, what what am I looking for? Like
- 23:58Speaker 1: what am I afraid of? I kept trying to convince
- 24:01Speaker 1: myself that I needed to be I need to find
- 24:03Speaker 1: what I was to be worried about. And I couldn't
- 24:06Speaker 1: find it.
- 24:07Speaker 2: So you always need that before a fight.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, no matter how And so like I was,
- 24:14Speaker 1: I've never been as present and like I've never been
- 24:18Speaker 1: able to retain a fight. And I, you know, before
- 24:21Speaker 1: the knockout, I was there, like I was. I was
- 24:24Speaker 1: in the I was in the in the arena. I
- 24:27Speaker 1: saw the lights, I saw the people, I heard the
- 24:29Speaker 1: people like I've never been there in my life. And
- 24:32Speaker 1: I think that I can attribute that to me not
- 24:35Speaker 1: being scared and so me not you know, me not
- 24:38Speaker 1: being in a real fight or fight.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Real life or death situations weren't fully focused. You could
- 24:45Speaker 2: actually hear the crowd.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I could. I could hear my thoughts, you know,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I had thoughts, never had thoughts in a fight because
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm so intuitive and reactionary, and that one was just
- 24:55Speaker 1: so dear. There was so much and so sure, the kicks,
- 24:59Speaker 1: the ipoke, No, I think I was not. I couldn't
- 25:03Speaker 1: have beaten the night with the mentality that I had.
- 25:06Speaker 1: And that was my last lesson to learn. I had
- 25:09Speaker 1: made my lesson. You know, my lessons with OLIVERA was
- 25:14Speaker 1: like I wanted it so much. I wanted it so bad,
- 25:17Speaker 1: and I wanted to perform, and I wanted to impress
- 25:20Speaker 1: my fans. You know, Rose had a fight that night
- 25:23Speaker 1: and she fought like absolute garbage, and I, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and I told my coaches, I coached, don't worry, I
- 25:28Speaker 1: won't do that to you before we're about to walk
- 25:32Speaker 1: because I don't worry, coach, I let you down like that.
- 25:35Speaker 1: And coaches pissed, and everyone's you know, the locker rooms
- 25:38Speaker 1: all fucked up because Pat's fucking weird. And I was
- 25:44Speaker 1: at home and so there was just and that was again,
- 25:46Speaker 1: that was my fault. I allowed those things to affect
- 25:49Speaker 1: me and to you know, affect my fighting decisions rather
- 25:56Speaker 1: than just being myself. And so that was a huge mistake.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Another mistake was, you know, winning two or three times
- 26:07Speaker 1: in a row and just kind of becoming complacent with
- 26:11Speaker 1: how serious what we do is and how dangerous this
- 26:14Speaker 1: game is and how much luck and chance are a
- 26:17Speaker 1: factor every single night. And so you know, I wasn't
- 26:21Speaker 1: doing the extra credit. I wasn't sitting in the asuana
- 26:24Speaker 1: at home, you know. And I don't know, I don't
- 26:27Speaker 1: know why. It's just and I made that mistake probably
- 26:30Speaker 1: into the Eddie Alvarez Dustin Poirier fights. Lost, and then
- 26:34Speaker 1: I won three or four in a row, and then
- 26:36Speaker 1: I completely went back to the same mindset of I'm
- 26:39Speaker 1: the best in the world. No we could beat me,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and I paid for it. And those two mistakes were huge,
- 26:45Speaker 1: very very big learning lessons. And then the Charles Alliver fight.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You know, I was like, I wanted it so bad,
- 26:52Speaker 1: and then I made the moment so much bigger than
- 26:54Speaker 1: it actually was because it's just twenty five minutes in time,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and I can control is being perfect my preparation for it,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but then ultimately being there for twenty five minutes and
- 27:05Speaker 1: being perfect, And yeah, those are the mistakes that I made.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I had to learn. I had to make those mistakes.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I would not change anything about my career. I think
- 27:12Speaker 1: the farther back into my career you go, the more
- 27:14Speaker 1: special this moment is. And you know, I think in
- 27:18Speaker 1: time again this is going to age. Like my career
- 27:22Speaker 1: is something special. The way that I did it, the
- 27:25Speaker 1: way that I that I lost, the way that I
- 27:27Speaker 1: stayed on track, the way that I you know, threatened
- 27:29Speaker 1: retirement if I wasn't going to get a title champ,
- 27:31Speaker 1: a title shot, the way I called my shots along
- 27:35Speaker 1: the way, then the discipline I had. I mean, it's
- 27:39Speaker 1: second to none. I've watched the sport my whole life
- 27:43Speaker 1: since nineteen ninety two. My dad showed me. I remember
- 27:45Speaker 1: as a four year old seeing it. I don't have
- 27:47Speaker 1: a lot of you know, great memories. I remember my childhood,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but it's like you have specifics. But I remember seeing
- 27:54Speaker 1: it for my first time in my dad's bedroom. We
- 27:57Speaker 1: were sitting there watching it together and I was enthralled.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I was like, this is this is amazing. I love this.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Did you picture that it would like a baby bottle
- 28:06Speaker 3: just squeezed it.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I watched it and then I was a die hard fan.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I've been a diehard fan ever since then, and especially
- 28:16Speaker 1: in two thousand and one when it came along, I was,
- 28:17Speaker 1: you know, probably in seventh or eighth grade, six or
- 28:19Speaker 1: seventh grade and just fell in love with it. And
- 28:21Speaker 1: then you know, me and Paul going into college would
- 28:23Speaker 1: go and sit a Bubbalo Wow Wings for six seven
- 28:26Speaker 1: eight hours, spend five dollars those poor service people.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It's just amazing that you've been able to keep this
- 28:35Speaker 2: ferocious mentality for so long, because I remember when you
- 28:38Speaker 2: first entered into the UFC the Michael Johnson fight. I
- 28:41Speaker 2: was so pumped for it because I was like, get ready,
- 28:43Speaker 2: because this is gonna be fucking wild because I had
- 28:45Speaker 2: been a fan of years when you were fighting what
- 28:46Speaker 2: was it, World Series of Fighting, and then that Michael
- 28:49Speaker 2: Johnson fight was everything that I thought it would be.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Fucking crazy, just a wild ass fight.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Crazy coming out party.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Dude. I giggled so many times in that fight. Dude,
- 28:58Speaker 3: wuld you go to getst the cage and you were
- 28:59Speaker 3: like you like look back and you were like, oh,
- 29:01Speaker 3: I'm looking for the shot. You're like blocking off the thing.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Did you come back with the right hook and then
- 29:06Speaker 3: you let it back in again that you hit it
- 29:07Speaker 3: with the right hook again off the cage? Dude, There's
- 29:09Speaker 3: so many giggle sessions in there. I wasn't nervous because
- 29:12Speaker 3: just again that's the way he fights. And I'm like,
- 29:14Speaker 3: no one's gonna forget this fight.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Michael Johnson was swinging.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I caught him with that left hands a few times.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Well that's the same left hand he knocked out dustin.
- 29:22Speaker 3: His left hand is so fast.
- 29:23Speaker 2: He did so fast and Michael's power, dude, And and
- 29:28Speaker 2: he was trying to win. I mean he was going
- 29:31Speaker 2: all out that you guys just emptied out in that fight.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It was fantastic.
- 29:36Speaker 3: And I was like, there it is the three rounder
- 29:38Speaker 3: to get off the back flip took three rounds. He
- 29:42Speaker 3: got off there, fell up there, fell out. I was like,
- 29:44Speaker 3: you can do it. I'm out there motivating.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Get so scared for your knees when you do that, Like,
- 29:50Speaker 2: please don't hurt your knees. After you won the time.
- 29:54Speaker 3: We're trading for Kabib, but we're over it. At high altitude,
- 29:57Speaker 3: he's doing backflips off the off the case cage and
- 30:00Speaker 3: I was like, stop do this.
- 30:02Speaker 1: After the fight, yeah, he's like, hey, no more backfall
- 30:05Speaker 1: was like today, Today's day. The day'say. I become a
- 30:08Speaker 1: bit like today.
- 30:11Speaker 3: At that moment, He's like, you know what, I turned
- 30:13Speaker 3: my head. I was like, shop, go ahead.
- 30:15Speaker 2: That is kind of true, right when when you get
- 30:18Speaker 2: something and all of a sudden you're special, that you
- 30:21Speaker 2: started protecting it, and then you won't be special anymore.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I told him, I like, so today, today's day.
- 30:27Speaker 3: It's crazy. I never want him to stop being fucking crazy.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Like everything about him in life, when you play golf
- 30:34Speaker 3: with him, he's the highlight. He does ship that you'll
- 30:37Speaker 3: never fucking see. Like, it's like everything you do is
- 30:39Speaker 3: the highlight. Like his life is like his fighting. He's
- 30:41Speaker 3: fucking wild.
- 30:42Speaker 2: So your mentality you've never had to work on. I mean,
- 30:45Speaker 2: obviously you've learned lessons along the way, but you've never
- 30:48Speaker 2: had to like sit down and work on this mindset.
- 30:51Speaker 2: It's always been something you inherently possessed.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I think it's crazy. I think crazy. I
- 30:58Speaker 1: think people just complicate things so much, like when you
- 31:01Speaker 1: can truly understand that there's there's there is things you
- 31:05Speaker 1: can't control, but it's not everything. You can only control
- 31:08Speaker 1: what's inside of you. You know, you can only control
- 31:11Speaker 1: how you perceive things, how you react to things, the work,
- 31:15Speaker 1: the world, obviously, the preparation, but it's I mean, there's
- 31:19Speaker 1: so much, you know, and I guess I always knew
- 31:23Speaker 1: that something was coming because no matter how far off
- 31:29Speaker 1: the road, you know, like I've made mistakes, you know
- 31:34Speaker 1: I've done. I was never an thank god, I was
- 31:38Speaker 1: never an alcoholic, neverle but I was. I could say
- 31:40Speaker 1: I was. I was probably a drug addict. That's, you know,
- 31:43Speaker 1: one time in my life. And what drugs.
- 31:48Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I have never told my parents about this, so I
- 31:50Speaker 1: don't know all of them, all of them. I want so,
- 31:54Speaker 1: but it's and I know this is gonna sound stupid,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but so I went to school for human services. I
- 31:59Speaker 1: wanted to help people. A big part of that is
- 32:02Speaker 1: helping people come off drugs. And I lost many over
- 32:06Speaker 1: a handful of friends, really close friends, from drugs. Where
- 32:09Speaker 1: I come from, we're not far from Mexico, and we
- 32:11Speaker 1: had the best We had the best shit coming right
- 32:15Speaker 1: across the border before I ever got cut up, and
- 32:19Speaker 1: it was it was my life. You know, where I'm
- 32:22Speaker 1: from is very boring and so like you chase again,
- 32:25Speaker 1: you know, we have it so good in this country.
- 32:26Speaker 1: We're always trying to create chaos in order to feel something.
- 32:30Speaker 1: And I guess that's what I was probably doing and
- 32:34Speaker 1: in college is when I really you know, if I'm
- 32:37Speaker 1: going to help people come off of drugs, then how
- 32:40Speaker 1: can I ever even try to understand if I don't
- 32:45Speaker 1: know what they're chasing. And so that was a part
- 32:48Speaker 1: of it, and also a part was felt good, you know,
- 32:53Speaker 1: And so you know, once I did certain things, I
- 33:00Speaker 1: knew what people were chasing. But then I always knew
- 33:02Speaker 1: that something was bigger for me and better for me,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and I had something to do, and so that was
- 33:07Speaker 1: always It was never a crutch for me. I was
- 33:09Speaker 1: always like, that was awesome. You know, I'm not doing
- 33:12Speaker 1: it again.
- 33:13Speaker 2: What is it in your head that where you always
- 33:15Speaker 2: knew that you had something bigger?
- 33:19Speaker 1: Well, probably my faith. I mean I've been my parents.
- 33:23Speaker 1: The best thing they ever did for me was make
- 33:26Speaker 1: me go to church every single Sunday and create a
- 33:29Speaker 1: relationship with God through the word of Jesus Christ and
- 33:36Speaker 1: just trying to live up to those expectations. I knew,
- 33:41Speaker 1: not that I was going to be a champion or anything.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I just knew that I couldn't take the easy way out.
- 33:48Speaker 1: You know, when you're on drugs or when you're living
- 33:52Speaker 1: in a lifestyle like that, then nobody expects anything from you.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Nobody wants anything from you. And that's an easy way
- 33:57Speaker 1: to live, you know, those right, there's no pressure, no expectation,
- 34:02Speaker 1: no expectations, no pressure, And I mean it really is.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I can understand how you can let that overcome the
- 34:10Speaker 1: passion to live, you know, And I don't know. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: just think the passion to live because of my faith
- 34:18Speaker 1: has never outweighed my desire to feel good.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I want to talk about the shift that you made
- 34:28Speaker 2: in your career from being the most exciting guy in
- 34:31Speaker 2: the world, wanting to be the most exciting guy in
- 34:34Speaker 2: the world, being happy with performing to the best of
- 34:36Speaker 2: your ability, whether you win or lose, to wanting to
- 34:40Speaker 2: get the belt. What was what started that decision.
- 34:46Speaker 1: It's weird because I don't remember a time or a
- 34:51Speaker 1: day where I made a change other than I'm not
- 34:55Speaker 1: going to get hit, you know. In the Dustin Poorrie
- 34:58Speaker 1: fight and Eddie Alberts fight, I absolutely almost broke them.
- 35:04Speaker 1: And it was no different than any of my other fights.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Nobody had just ever same with Elia, you know, like
- 35:09Speaker 1: nobody had ever got past it, nobody had ever been
- 35:11Speaker 1: able to withstand the ferocity of my actions. For two
- 35:16Speaker 1: or three rounds and then those guys did and I
- 35:22Speaker 1: was like, what happened? You know? And ultimately I put
- 35:25Speaker 1: myself in a position and I got hit with a
- 35:27Speaker 1: shot that took me out of the fight. And so
- 35:33Speaker 1: after those fights, I was like, I have to not
- 35:36Speaker 1: take these shots. And that was ultimately all I can
- 35:40Speaker 1: say that I changed mentally is I'm gonna I don't
- 35:44Speaker 1: want to get hit. I used to never care about
- 35:46Speaker 1: getting hit because it's like it doesn't hurt. Nothing hurts
- 35:50Speaker 1: in there. You don't feel nothing, it's never hurt. And
- 35:53Speaker 1: so that was really just the mind tails. I just
- 35:55Speaker 1: need to not let them get me in a predicament
- 35:59Speaker 1: where I'm not able to real they have to stop
- 36:01Speaker 1: the fight. So the shift, but he probably from outside.
- 36:06Speaker 3: To Yeah, it's definitely there. There was a shift, and
- 36:09Speaker 3: it wasn't just like an instant shift. There was the
- 36:11Speaker 3: two losses in a row with Eddie and Poyer Uh,
- 36:14Speaker 3: where he's like, I'm winning these fights and I need
- 36:17Speaker 3: to be able to get to the distance. And I
- 36:19Speaker 3: was like, all right, we got to become a spot
- 36:20Speaker 3: fighter because you just drowned people and you're what's happening
- 36:24Speaker 3: is you're making mistakes. We threw a low key against
- 36:26Speaker 3: Poie and he got caught because he based back lazy
- 36:28Speaker 3: with his shoulders above his hips. So I was like,
- 36:31Speaker 3: all right, let's be sharp, let's fight in spots. Then
- 36:34Speaker 3: he goes on a three fight win streak where he's
- 36:36Speaker 3: finding the right spots and putting people out from from
- 36:38Speaker 3: vic to Barbosa into cowboy Seroni and that's where he's like.
- 36:43Speaker 3: And then I sat down with him and I was like,
- 36:46Speaker 3: do you want to be a champion? And I was like,
- 36:48Speaker 3: this is how you have to fight to be a
- 36:50Speaker 3: champion is be smart? And he never said he he
- 36:54Speaker 3: never said he did want to be the most excited
- 36:55Speaker 3: fighter the boar. He would tell me after fights, He's like,
- 36:57Speaker 3: I'm not even trying to fight excited, but look at
- 36:59Speaker 3: me and it's fucking like it's so amazing, like it's
- 37:03Speaker 3: in them. It's just how do we how do we
- 37:05Speaker 3: get you to sprint fifty yards, pull back for one
- 37:07Speaker 3: hundred yards and jog and then sprint for fifty yards
- 37:10Speaker 3: and like be able to know your your your your
- 37:12Speaker 3: red line, don't don't cross over that red line, don't
- 37:14Speaker 3: hold red line.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Well, that that is again the experience that you've found
- 37:17Speaker 2: in Wars. It was so critical he could do it.
- 37:21Speaker 2: But yeah, I don't want to make.
- 37:22Speaker 1: It and it is. I think it's crazy. I think
- 37:25Speaker 1: again the fact that they said that he had outstruck
- 37:27Speaker 1: me in the first round thirty nine to thirty two
- 37:29Speaker 1: or something.
- 37:29Speaker 2: You some hard jobs.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, there's yours. We're devastating.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And I'm talking about the perception. It looks like I'm
- 37:39Speaker 1: getting hit. It looks like it's but I mean my
- 37:43Speaker 1: I don't have special skin. I am able to see
- 37:47Speaker 1: punches and roll with them and roll with punches. If
- 37:50Speaker 1: you watch my you know, fight frame by frame, I'm
- 37:53Speaker 1: not getting hit for the most part.
- 37:55Speaker 2: You're moving with the punches.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it's be like water like I'm I'm constantly you know,
- 38:02Speaker 1: and intuitively making these calculations.
- 38:05Speaker 3: That's the scoring that when you see that, I don't
- 38:09Speaker 3: know who's counting that, but that's like amateur boxing. Amateur boxing,
- 38:12Speaker 3: if the white glove touches you in the face, even
- 38:14Speaker 3: if it's not a clean blow, that's considered. That's how
- 38:16Speaker 3: you judge. Yes, And that that's where Jessin I think
- 38:19Speaker 3: where you look at it from a point system. You
- 38:22Speaker 3: can't just look at the screen. And that's why you know,
- 38:25Speaker 3: judges can't look at a screen and go, oh, this
- 38:27Speaker 3: guy landed more this is who won. You had the
- 38:29Speaker 3: damaging blows. I think everybody knows that. Like I get it,
- 38:32Speaker 3: Like I see the way you roll the shot. I
- 38:34Speaker 3: see the way that you fade off and allow the
- 38:36Speaker 3: shot not to go through your skull and deflect. It
- 38:39Speaker 3: still gets touched to you. So it's considered that they
- 38:41Speaker 3: landed that shot. But the damage is like what you
- 38:45Speaker 3: do to people by the way that you hip through
- 38:47Speaker 3: that you drive through people is so different, like like
- 38:50Speaker 3: Justin hits unlike and he's still I still think to
- 38:53Speaker 3: this day. We got to ask s UFC, but they
- 38:55Speaker 3: did a test on him to see who has the
- 38:56Speaker 3: hardest bones of the UFC. He had the hardest bone. Dude,
- 38:59Speaker 3: he kicks me. I'm just like, dude, I'm so glad.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I feel so bad for luked.
- 39:07Speaker 2: On.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Here's his pet on. I kick him and his nuts.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Swallow dude, I get blue balls, bro and kires the
- 39:12Speaker 3: nerve on the inside. I talked to a doctor about
- 39:14Speaker 3: it because I'm like, Bro, like he kicks people and
- 39:16Speaker 3: they bruise on the inside of their lake, and it's
- 39:18Speaker 3: because the shot through, but there's a nerve on the
- 39:20Speaker 3: inside of the lake. I'd go home and I tell
- 39:21Speaker 3: my wife, I'm like, hebe I got blue balls. She's
- 39:24Speaker 3: like from who? And I'm like Justin. She looks at me,
- 39:26Speaker 3: like the fuck you got blue balls from Justin?
- 39:29Speaker 2: For One of the things you were doing early in
- 39:31Speaker 2: your career that I always thought was so wild was
- 39:33Speaker 2: you were leg kicking people from a collar tie like
- 39:36Speaker 2: you were a leg kick. Oh my goodness, no one's
- 39:39Speaker 2: doing that like you were. One of the only guys
- 39:42Speaker 2: that I saw that was doing that that was from
- 39:44Speaker 2: the clench, was leg kicking. You've got some fucking flexible
- 39:48Speaker 2: hips man, because the way you were able to do
- 39:51Speaker 2: that from like right and tight like this, and then
- 39:53Speaker 2: and not just you pull the leg out in.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he pulls them to their lee legs, so he's
- 39:58Speaker 3: making a base on that knee and and then it's
- 40:00Speaker 3: just like you got to stump in the ground. You're
- 40:01Speaker 3: just trying to bend that tree. Man. He's very good
- 40:04Speaker 3: at that.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Let me tell you something about Luke, because I got
- 40:06Speaker 2: into the octagon right after you won, and Luke and
- 40:10Speaker 2: he looked at each other he.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Was like, he's like, dude, he's like he was, He's
- 40:16Speaker 1: like Joe was.
- 40:16Speaker 3: So he was so happy he was.
- 40:20Speaker 2: It was amazing because seeing all those videos and knowing
- 40:23Speaker 2: he's in camp with you all the time, and knowing
- 40:25Speaker 2: how much he loves you, watching the happiness that he
- 40:28Speaker 2: had when you won was fucking incredible.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Luke is one of my really, really good friends.
- 40:32Speaker 3: He was every time before fight, every time Ford Trevor
- 40:35Speaker 3: was in my.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Corner, Luke corner. He used to go uh to Arizona
- 40:38Speaker 1: with me. I had no coaches. I would just do
- 40:40Speaker 1: it in between, you know, in between restling seasons, and yeah,
- 40:43Speaker 1: he would go down there with me and just wrap
- 40:45Speaker 1: my hands and he would just be there.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Wow.
- 40:47Speaker 3: He's amazing. One of the best human beings on earth.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that man.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Can you tell him about the Sunday? So the Sunday
- 40:53Speaker 3: before the fight? So so there was one time, but
- 40:56Speaker 3: I think it was in the Cowboy fight where you
- 40:59Speaker 3: were you were pummeling with Ben and he'd finished with
- 41:02Speaker 3: a low cake on Ben every time, and I'm like,
- 41:04Speaker 3: stop kicking your coach, and he looks at me. He's
- 41:05Speaker 3: like he's like Trevor. He used to drag me back
- 41:08Speaker 3: on the mats.
- 41:08Speaker 1: He's like, give me this fucking give me this opportunity
- 41:13Speaker 1: to beat his ass. So we go golfing, Joe Sunday.
- 41:16Speaker 1: We go golfing Sunday before the fight. We get there Saturday,
- 41:18Speaker 1: we go golfing Sunday and you know, it's a Sunday.
- 41:21Speaker 1: We never work out on Sundays. And Trevor not Trevor,
- 41:25Speaker 1: Luke and Ben got fucking pickled. They had like three
- 41:30Speaker 1: very very very stiff Mark uh bluddy Mary's. Luke bought
- 41:35Speaker 1: like twelve beers because we got there and hey, everything's
- 41:38Speaker 1: on the president and he's like, fuck yeah, I've never
- 41:41Speaker 1: heard that before. He's on the President. I'm gonna drink
- 41:44Speaker 1: until like whole ten or eleven. Trevor's like, let's fuck
- 41:46Speaker 1: with them. Let's tell him that we're gonna work out later.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Well, we're gonna work out, but I'm telling you they're
- 41:50Speaker 3: going to be the workout.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I didn't know we were working out. Put it there.
- 41:53Speaker 1: I had no funk thought. I thought he was fucking
- 41:56Speaker 1: with me. We're out there golfing, it's hot as ship,
- 41:58Speaker 1: I'm sweating my ass off. I had no idea we
- 42:00Speaker 1: were working out that day, and he's like, let's fuck
- 42:02Speaker 1: with them, let's tell him that we're gonna work out.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I was all right, cool, So I told him I
- 42:05Speaker 3: was going to text him and give the workout because
- 42:06Speaker 3: I'll get all lay out the workout for everybody. And
- 42:08Speaker 3: I told Luke he was gonna go three rounds of sparring,
- 42:11Speaker 3: full on sparring, and then Ben's got to go forty
- 42:14Speaker 3: minutes straight, no breaks, just grap it, god wrestling, just
- 42:17Speaker 3: grap and the dude. I told Justin that. I was like,
- 42:20Speaker 3: all right, let's fun to see how he is. And dude,
- 42:21Speaker 3: instantly before I didn't text it, we just started talking
- 42:24Speaker 3: about it. So we're on the way home, driving home
- 42:26Speaker 3: and dude, Ben is like, dude, He's like, he's like, uh,
- 42:30Speaker 3: I'll just take you down. And he's like, I asked
- 42:32Speaker 3: him how many times you can take him down? Times
- 42:34Speaker 3: I want, dude, So they went twenty. Dude, you got
- 42:39Speaker 3: what seven submissions on your coach. He drunk him back
- 42:41Speaker 3: on the mats. It was so funny because I was like, dude,
- 42:43Speaker 3: you got to drag it back on the masks because
- 42:44Speaker 3: I got to quitness this.
- 42:45Speaker 1: It's funny because I got a video, Uh dude. So
- 42:48Speaker 1: we get home. I go home, I go down and
- 42:50Speaker 1: take a nap for like two hours, and they just
- 42:52Speaker 1: stay drinking up shit. My YouTube guy filmed everything, and
- 42:56Speaker 1: they're just talking so much shit, how they're gonna fuck
- 42:59Speaker 1: me up. Luke was here. It looks like, hey, I
- 43:05Speaker 1: ain't saying hey, this not me and Tim, but they're
- 43:07Speaker 1: making a plan how they're gonna team up on me,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and so it's funny. Then then he got the video
- 43:13Speaker 1: there and I'm beating Ben's ass. No, actually I went
- 43:16Speaker 1: with Luke first, and that was fucking him up.
- 43:18Speaker 3: And Luke because Ben won't jump in.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Ben's like, he's like, what the fuck?
- 43:22Speaker 2: Ben?
- 43:23Speaker 1: What the fuck?
- 43:23Speaker 4: Man?
- 43:24Speaker 1: Now is the time and he's asking for help, asking
- 43:27Speaker 1: for help. I beat his ass and that did have fun.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Sure, it looks great, coaches, our whole team is just
- 43:33Speaker 3: everybody so dialed in.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that whole week is one of my Every time
- 43:35Speaker 1: we go, that whole week is one of my favorite.
- 43:38Speaker 2: You were using the sauna in between workouts as well
- 43:41Speaker 2: and before and.
- 43:41Speaker 3: So we nothing.
- 43:43Speaker 1: That just sucked. I say it was perfect. You say
- 43:45Speaker 1: it was perfect. It was not. It was detrimental to
- 43:48Speaker 1: ours yes, yeah, the humidity was there. I didn't realize
- 43:51Speaker 1: it because obviously it's not you know, it's not something
- 43:54Speaker 1: I can worry about right now. But after round one
- 43:56Speaker 1: I just remember thinking, oh fuck, I am so tired
- 44:00Speaker 1: right now. How how is this possible? And the amount
- 44:03Speaker 1: of the amount of fluid I lost with thank god,
- 44:05Speaker 1: was probably lost like.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Fifty It was in the seventies, dude, Yes, seventies with
- 44:09Speaker 2: the cool breeze.
- 44:10Speaker 1: You know, when you go out there, what you feel
- 44:11Speaker 1: is that the cool breeze. But in the fire Man
- 44:14Speaker 1: it was different.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah. I hated the fact that it was going to happen,
- 44:17Speaker 2: but I'm glad it did.
- 44:19Speaker 1: I'm again, I would not change again.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I think, how could you change?
- 44:22Speaker 1: It affects me, it affects him, you know. Again, I
- 44:24Speaker 1: grew up in the country. He's he's a city boy.
- 44:27Speaker 1: There's no way he's not a city But I don't
- 44:29Speaker 1: know him personally, but there's no way he's not a
- 44:31Speaker 1: city boy, you know. And so as a country country
- 44:33Speaker 1: boy from the desert in Arizona, like, I was hoping
- 44:37Speaker 1: that it would be hot as fun, hot as.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Fun, like when I was like, oh god, these outside
- 44:43Speaker 3: fights Kilby, Yeah, you know.
- 44:45Speaker 1: He was one like, dude, you were shaking.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Dude, he was like trembling. I was like, holy shit.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Well, it is crazy to ask people to defend a
- 44:53Speaker 2: world title in a completely alien environment that you never
- 44:56Speaker 2: have fights in. We've had how many fights outside? We've
- 44:59Speaker 2: had the Abu Dhabi fight and like, what was that
- 45:01Speaker 2: two thousand and fucking nine or something like that they did?
- 45:06Speaker 1: Didn't what was the setting. I wasn't there. It was
- 45:10Speaker 1: when Adustania did his famous walkout in like it was
- 45:13Speaker 1: covered but it was it seemed like the environment was
- 45:17Speaker 1: outside against.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Well, we did one in Abu Dhabi when bj lost
- 45:27Speaker 2: to Frankie Edgar. That was outside in Dabi and that
- 45:32Speaker 2: was when Anderson Silver fought.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Damien Miyam Is that with that Ferrari building.
- 45:37Speaker 2: The Ferrari building was there, but I don't know if
- 45:39Speaker 2: it was in the same place they had.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Did they have a fight in the Ferrari building.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I think they did that. I wasn't there for that one.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I only went to one of the Abu Dhabi fights.
- 45:47Speaker 1: It wasn't it wasn't that long ago the last seven years.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Remember to do it in Morocco said after the first
- 45:54Speaker 3: round he was done. He was just trying to survive.
- 45:56Speaker 3: He said it was so hot. Member.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I mean that's what I remember it being
- 46:00Speaker 1: over there. And then you know, once you realize the
- 46:02Speaker 1: climate over there, in the humidity, it's like you.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Remember the dog remember bow dog fights they had. They
- 46:08Speaker 2: had to fight outside in the sun on the.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Beach Caesar Palace in Vegas. Remember Caesars Palace day, the
- 46:17Speaker 3: boxing We got to fight there, Bernald Phillips again, yeah,
- 46:20Speaker 3: that's right.
- 46:21Speaker 2: They still always do it.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Fighting are on the NASCAR of it.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that was crazy.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Duran versus Herns.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Yeah, they were. They were great.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's true. That's right. At least Vegas is dry.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah to Arizona, Vegas.
- 46:38Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, humidity was what I was training for with
- 46:41Speaker 3: him was heatstroke, like dealing with it where you can't breathe.
- 46:43Speaker 3: It's heavy air like, right.
- 46:45Speaker 2: So you're putting water on the rocks and as well,
- 46:47Speaker 2: and so.
- 46:49Speaker 3: We trained in a hotter gym. I turned the temperature
- 46:51Speaker 3: in the gyms just so he's getting used to dealing
- 46:53Speaker 3: with a little bit more heat stroke.
- 46:54Speaker 1: We would spike my heart rate and then I would
- 46:56Speaker 1: go in this on in fifteen minutes. Then I would
- 46:58Speaker 1: come out and do to ten rounds.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Hmmm.
- 47:01Speaker 3: It was great. I'm smart, glad we did.
- 47:03Speaker 2: It, very smart, very smart because that environment he means,
- 47:07Speaker 2: it's so completely different. I just ultimately, I think the
- 47:11Speaker 2: best way to fight is obviously the way you usually
- 47:13Speaker 2: find controlled environment. That's how it should be.
- 47:15Speaker 3: It was cool, though, Joe, you know why? So we
- 47:18Speaker 3: went We went, did a rehearsal, okay, and I'm like,
- 47:21Speaker 3: why are we rehearsing it? Walked through like if this
- 47:23Speaker 3: ain't a freaking wedding, like, just tell us where to go.
- 47:25Speaker 3: The camera guys are always like, all right, your mark
- 47:27Speaker 3: here three, So why are we doing this? And then
- 47:30Speaker 3: we go there and we get stuck in this locker
- 47:32Speaker 3: room for two hours because of rain, and thank god
- 47:36Speaker 3: that happened, because then I started to go, oh because
- 47:39Speaker 3: it's all unexpected, and how illiots said, Hey, I'm a visualizer,
- 47:42Speaker 3: I can't visualize this this arena. And I visualized a
- 47:46Speaker 3: lot too, so I was like, I felt the exact
- 47:47Speaker 3: same thing when he said that, And that's when I knew, Hey,
- 47:51Speaker 3: these are going to be some huge unknowns. And I
- 47:53Speaker 3: had told him that night because their rain was coming like.
- 47:55Speaker 3: It was crazy how the storm split around because it
- 47:58Speaker 3: was all bright red. I was like, this is thunderstorms,
- 48:01Speaker 3: and we're.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Talking about pushing the fight till ten thirty pm.
- 48:04Speaker 3: We had planned fighting part of the night. Yeah, two
- 48:06Speaker 3: in the morning.
- 48:07Speaker 1: I was staying up till like three am. After the rehearsal,
- 48:09Speaker 1: I was like, three am when we fight, I'm gonna
- 48:11Speaker 1: just start staying up.
- 48:12Speaker 3: But that's what was cool, like the walkout, like having
- 48:15Speaker 3: the soldiers, like just walking through the soldiers. There was
- 48:18Speaker 3: that we weren't able to take any of this in Joe,
- 48:22Speaker 3: and I can't really speak for him. I know where
- 48:23Speaker 3: his mind's up. I couldn't from a coaching standpoint. I
- 48:27Speaker 3: was nervous as fuck because you don't know, there's no
- 48:29Speaker 3: pattern I could take on right now and kind of
- 48:31Speaker 3: put myself and breathe to it. It was very unique,
- 48:34Speaker 3: and at the end, I couldn't even really smile. It
- 48:37Speaker 3: was just like, dude, I'm just like blown away. Now
- 48:40Speaker 3: I can kind of just look around slowly and just
- 48:42Speaker 3: try to take in everything. Because it was very, very
- 48:45Speaker 3: hard to go through that scenario with the pressure of
- 48:49Speaker 3: us fighting on this stage at the White House, we're
- 48:54Speaker 3: the Americans. We're a six to one underdog. That gets
- 48:57Speaker 3: to you that you know, when you hear that over
- 48:58Speaker 3: and over and over and over, it's you know, your phone, dude,
- 49:02Speaker 3: you you kind of you kind of Marlin. But having
- 49:07Speaker 3: uh you left, just that scenario was so unique. And
- 49:12Speaker 3: then once it was over, then it was like, now
- 49:13Speaker 3: I get to enjoy the White House and just being
- 49:16Speaker 3: here in this this this.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Look at that there, you can see it. What is
- 49:19Speaker 2: he reading there? Is that the Declaration of Independence?
- 49:22Speaker 3: So we weren't in the room with him right there
- 49:24Speaker 3: through the rehearsal.
- 49:25Speaker 2: Yeah, crazy, he's in the Oval office stepping out and
- 49:30Speaker 2: then all.
- 49:30Speaker 1: The soldiers walking through.
- 49:31Speaker 3: So cool, like having the two guys next to him.
- 49:34Speaker 2: And a lot of people complained about this happening at
- 49:38Speaker 2: the White House, but you don't think this is cool.
- 49:41Speaker 2: This is How could you not like this anyone? This
- 49:45Speaker 2: shouldn't be taking place to shot the fuck dude.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Life is a fight. World is a fight.
- 49:50Speaker 2: Like incredible to watch, creational, It's a wild thing to watch.
- 49:54Speaker 2: By the way, how much gold did Trump put on
- 49:56Speaker 2: those walls? Gold everywhere? Look at these fucking gold design.
- 49:59Speaker 3: When we're at the the Oval office. The first thing
- 50:01Speaker 3: I said is I was like this, he's small as hill,
- 50:03Speaker 3: like when I see it our pictures that like seem
- 50:05Speaker 3: so big, and I was, But the gold pieces on
- 50:07Speaker 3: the wall is the first thing. I was like, they
- 50:09Speaker 3: dust that shit every day because dude, it was so clean.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Well he put that up there. None of that was there.
- 50:14Speaker 2: None of that was there. He was explaining to.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Me there was no gold. I wanted to have gold.
- 50:18Speaker 2: He's got a gold cherub, like a solid gold cherub
- 50:21Speaker 2: that's above like one of the doors he goes. If
- 50:23Speaker 2: putin comes, hopefully it doesn't fall in his head. It's
- 50:26Speaker 2: like he's got gold everywhere. It's all him. He redesigned
- 50:29Speaker 2: a bunch of the things there. You know, he's a builder, right,
- 50:31Speaker 2: So that's why he wanted to do the ballroom. That's
- 50:33Speaker 2: why he wanted to keep it. You know, he likes
- 50:35Speaker 2: everything in gold. He's a gold guy. Was Alton Powers
- 50:41Speaker 2: bro watch we were just watching you look at the
- 50:44Speaker 2: Declaration of Independence before you walked out, which is also wild,
- 50:48Speaker 2: like this is never gonna happen again. This is more
- 50:51Speaker 2: historic than Rumbling the Jungle, more historic than I mean,
- 50:55Speaker 2: think about all the great fights that we've all watched
- 50:58Speaker 2: as kids that were like, remember that, this tops everything
- 51:02Speaker 2: because of the scene, because of the fact that not
- 51:06Speaker 2: only is it at the White House, but the American
- 51:09Speaker 2: who's a six to one on some books Underdog pulls
- 51:12Speaker 2: it off in spectacular fashion, and just the seesaw of
- 51:16Speaker 2: the fight back and forth, the back and forth of
- 51:18Speaker 2: the fight was fucking huge because the second round was crazy.
- 51:21Speaker 3: I was like, oh, no, letting it go on again
- 51:24Speaker 3: when when it's in our corner, all the coaches were like, dude,
- 51:26Speaker 3: they're going to stop it, and I was said out loud,
- 51:28Speaker 3: I was like, please let it go on, and I
- 51:31Speaker 3: just wanted to finish like a definitive ending dude, because
- 51:34Speaker 3: that would have been a point where it's like, especially
- 51:36Speaker 3: with him going, hey, I want to go in and continue,
- 51:38Speaker 3: and then we have got her come out and say, hey,
- 51:40Speaker 3: you are God from Mark Goddard.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, because if it wasn't for Mark Goddard, if
- 51:45Speaker 2: another lesson he wanted referee, you think he did he
- 51:48Speaker 2: wanted out. Yeah, you don't.
- 51:50Speaker 1: You don't you know for a fact, you do not
- 51:52Speaker 1: ever as a fighter say I cannot see it's sober
- 51:56Speaker 1: and he was counting on that he said he had
- 51:57Speaker 1: already stated he didn't need to say it again. He
- 52:00Speaker 1: did not think there was. I don't think he thought there.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Was, so you think that he called Goddard a turkey. Internally,
- 52:05Speaker 3: he was like when he said you're gonna go hey,
- 52:07Speaker 3: I was.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Playing that moment. He just like, I've don't you know,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I've tried, and it might have been like, you know,
- 52:13Speaker 1: the little devil on his shoulder, trying to get him out,
- 52:15Speaker 1: and then he re evaluated and redunking and understood that
- 52:19Speaker 1: he had to keep fighting because you say dunk, dunk
- 52:21Speaker 1: rethunk it. I stopped, I stopped. I stopped him twice.
- 52:30Speaker 1: I stopped him twice that night. There's no doubt about it.
- 52:33Speaker 3: That's I love it. I love it.
- 52:34Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by on EX off Road.

- 53:26Speaker 2: off go to on xmaps dot com. Slash Joe Rogan, Well,
- 53:33Speaker 2: it was it was a big factor that Goddard let
- 53:36Speaker 2: it go on because then we got to see that
- 53:38Speaker 2: epic fourth round which is fucking crazy, which was just
- 53:41Speaker 2: in the end when you land in that knee of
- 53:43Speaker 2: the body that was like the final Oh that was.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Right landed heavy that he just starts topping it where
- 53:50Speaker 3: he got an almload.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and then then he has to quit on a stool.
- 53:55Speaker 2: And if Goddard had just given to that referee or
- 53:59Speaker 2: that judges, so the doctor's rather desires here, it.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Is I love here right on the spot. Yeah oh right, oh.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Right, yeah he did not like that and that was
- 54:11Speaker 2: the end. Crazy.
- 54:15Speaker 3: I mean, it's crazy.
- 54:16Speaker 1: How different, So again, being a fan of the sport
- 54:19Speaker 1: I've got to watch, you know, I would have usually
- 54:21Speaker 1: watched this from and yeah, it would have been the
- 54:22Speaker 1: most fucking incredible thing ever. Being the fighter, you know,
- 54:26Speaker 1: you're really not appreciating any of that because you're so
- 54:30Speaker 1: locked into It's like golfing, like you don't know, but
- 54:34Speaker 1: golfing is like certain swing thoughts, you know, and nothing
- 54:37Speaker 1: else can come in, nothing can creep in. And so
- 54:41Speaker 1: re looking at the Decoration of Independence. I was looking
- 54:44Speaker 1: at it, but I didn't I didn't take it in
- 54:47Speaker 1: as as this being a decoration. I was sitting there,
- 54:49Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, gott to reset his feet, gotta control,
- 54:52Speaker 1: gotta move left, Gotta move left, can't get against the fence,
- 54:56Speaker 1: you know. And then those are the thoughts I'm having
- 54:58Speaker 1: as through the whole walkout, and so I'm really not
- 55:01Speaker 1: taking any of it in as it as it, you know,
- 55:03Speaker 1: as the show, or as the theatrics of it. Of course,
- 55:07Speaker 1: watching it in hindsight, obviously it's fucking awesome.
- 55:10Speaker 2: There was something special about you warming up with the
- 55:12Speaker 2: American flag on your shoulder to we were watching that.
- 55:15Speaker 2: There was something special about watching you shadow box before
- 55:17Speaker 2: all this with the American flag on I was like,
- 55:21Speaker 2: if he wins, good lord, if he wins tonight, it's
- 55:25Speaker 2: gonna be fucking insane. And it was. Is the feeling
- 55:30Speaker 2: of like joy throughout the building, throughout the grounds, like
- 55:34Speaker 2: the happiness that everybody had seen had been there to
- 55:37Speaker 2: see such an incredible event and such an amazing cap
- 55:40Speaker 2: to that event with your fight. It was just nuts.
- 55:43Speaker 3: It felt like a whole arena to me. It was
- 55:45Speaker 3: crazy for the amount of people that you could see here.
- 55:47Speaker 2: It is to back flip the White House.
- 55:56Speaker 1: I rolled out of it.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Hey, hey, tell me, tell me what, tell me what
- 56:01Speaker 3: did you use?
- 56:02Speaker 1: Newton's first law, object in motion needs to state I
- 56:05Speaker 1: just stayed in emotion.
- 56:06Speaker 2: Stay in motion. Look at the size of that fucking
- 56:09Speaker 2: crowd that was outside.
- 56:10Speaker 3: So you could have seen this crowd, like I could
- 56:12Speaker 3: have seen this crowd, but.
- 56:13Speaker 2: You could hear them and you could feel them, dude,
- 56:17Speaker 2: you could feel the energy. I mean, even though there
- 56:20Speaker 2: was only four thousand people, did not feel like four
- 56:22Speaker 2: thousand people. It felt like one hundred thousand people because
- 56:25Speaker 2: all those people were behind us.
- 56:27Speaker 3: You know how many people were in that plan, eighty.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Five thousand plus. Yeah, it happened so fast. The size
- 56:34Speaker 2: of the group outside was insane. Yeah, I mean, and
- 56:37Speaker 2: they're watching on these giant screens and freaking out.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Like a concert. We were at the waves, it was like, dude,
- 56:43Speaker 3: that's what I pictured like Woodstock being like dude, I
- 56:46Speaker 3: looked at I could not see the end of the people. Yeah.
- 56:48Speaker 2: No, it was the wayans were nuts. When we first
- 56:50Speaker 2: walked out, I was like, holy shit, this is crazy.
- 56:53Speaker 2: But it just shows how hyped people were for this event,
- 56:57Speaker 2: you know. I mean it was an incredible event. I mean,
- 56:59Speaker 2: the UFC production team they just knocked it out of
- 57:02Speaker 2: the park, and then more importantly, you knocked it out
- 57:05Speaker 2: of the park. Cap It couldn't have gone better, And
- 57:08Speaker 2: the most important thing was that you did have to
- 57:10Speaker 2: overcome that. We did see a real back and forth,
- 57:13Speaker 2: and we did see the skills that led people to
- 57:16Speaker 2: believe that this guy is the number one pound for
- 57:17Speaker 2: pound farer in the world. I mean, his fucking boxing
- 57:20Speaker 2: is elite.
- 57:21Speaker 3: It is a sharp shooter.
- 57:23Speaker 1: But I mean my coach is a fucking genius. I
- 57:27Speaker 1: mean when it comes to me, like again, it's really
- 57:29Speaker 1: hard to you always sound right in hindsight. But the
- 57:33Speaker 1: strategy we had was so perfect to fight a guy
- 57:38Speaker 1: like that. I mean, if I think if you ask
- 57:40Speaker 1: him right now, which way was justin moving, He's gonna
- 57:45Speaker 1: think I was moving right the whole time because my
- 57:47Speaker 1: head is so so heavy and I lean over to
- 57:50Speaker 1: that side. But I was moving left the entire time.
- 57:54Speaker 1: And he's so pointed that you know he's powerful here.
- 57:58Speaker 1: But when you when you put it here, like nobody
- 58:01Speaker 1: can push and spread like He's not ever going to
- 58:03Speaker 1: take off sprinting that way as fast as he can.
- 58:06Speaker 1: He's gonna have to gather and reset and then and
- 58:09Speaker 1: then point and then go. And I constantly kept readjusting him.
- 58:14Speaker 1: And it was so subtle, And that's what fighting is.
- 58:18Speaker 1: It's subtle, subtle movements. But I mean his game plan
- 58:22Speaker 1: was and then his game plan his mind my ability,
- 58:29Speaker 1: but really it's my athletic ability. Like if people don't
- 58:33Speaker 1: understand how athletic I am, and I think that is
- 58:36Speaker 1: what surprises every opponent I've ever thought, is how you
- 58:40Speaker 1: know herky jerky, twitchy, how explosive and how athletic I am.
- 58:46Speaker 1: And I think that's the biggest asset that I have.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Why do you think anybody be surprised by that? At
- 58:50Speaker 2: this stage. Why do you think they're.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Surprised because the human because it doesn't look like that.
- 58:54Speaker 3: No, you're I justin. I think you're looking into the
- 58:57Speaker 3: Patty fight. I feel like the Patty fight you because
- 59:00Speaker 3: a lot of people are like, hey, you look older,
- 59:02Speaker 3: you look this because the way we fought, like our style,
- 59:04Speaker 3: our game.
- 59:05Speaker 1: How sweet is that now? I mean, if you watch
- 59:07Speaker 1: the Patty fight, you would never expect you would only
- 59:09Speaker 1: expect punches coming from here.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Because he would pull in.
- 59:14Speaker 1: I had to like wrangle them in. And this guy
- 59:17Speaker 1: no shot palm strikes, Like we.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Need to palm strike him. We need to keep him
- 59:20Speaker 3: inside of our loop. And uh, if you're throwing straight
- 59:23Speaker 3: shots at Patty, Patty will disengage very long with his
- 59:27Speaker 3: upper body. So he was throwing wild shots and then
- 59:30Speaker 3: long uppercuts, like stay on the outside when you're throwing
- 59:32Speaker 3: upper cutscu. Patty's got very good knees coming in, so
- 59:34Speaker 3: we can't get too deep with the head. Very simple plan.
- 59:37Speaker 3: But also it was like make it chaotic as most
- 59:40Speaker 3: chaotic as you could be. Uh to be able to
- 59:42Speaker 3: do that because Patty his blitzing was very fast. He's
- 59:45Speaker 3: a very good blitzer. He'll he'll blitz past you and
- 59:47Speaker 3: almost like running type of punches like old v door
- 59:50Speaker 3: bell for but this fight is a lot different where
- 59:53Speaker 3: it's now elbows in. We have to be tied in
- 59:56Speaker 3: these types of positions and we need to step to
- 59:58Speaker 3: his center and get on him his back foot line
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: or outside of his back foot line. And that was
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: like a key factor to this one is because Ili
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: is very front heavy and we'll bounce back and forth.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: So once he goes to this angle, we need to
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: attack the rear shoulder and once he starts to reset,
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: now we're gonna be able to jab and stick the
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: jab at the rear shoulder where your jab was landing.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Here's my favorite part is the jab wasn't landing here
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: where Ali has got a very good slide. We're jabbing outside,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: so you're not doing inside jab coming under. You're jabbing
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: from outside your shoulder, which is pushing him on his
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: rear foot. And then once we started a pressure, my
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: favorite part is the the jab pause right hand his
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: left foot, Justin's left foot when we go outside his
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: rear foot right there, he opened his lead foot and
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: he got his foot outside and that's also in case,
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: the right hand count.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: That was a giant moment. In the sound of it was, Oh,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: that was such a hard don't do that one.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: More time, Jamie. And watch his lead foot after the jab.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Now watch his left foot after the jab outside the
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: rear foot boom and that because he's got a high shoulder.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: If I'm throwing a right hand down this point, if
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: you were looking at me, Joe, if you're if I'm here,
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: if he gets his foot out and now the shot
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: is coming from here, so we're able to put him
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: on the back foot and find it because Alien has
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: got a very good shoulder.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: True, he also dropped that right hand down. Yeah, it
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: was beautiful. It was beautiful, and it was such a
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: giant moment in the fight.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Like look where I started. I started with my back
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: to us and look a left left. M hmm, left
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: left left.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: But if you go out to the left, backwards where
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: that's where Iliot to me, is the best how we
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: stop Vulk where he'll throw at you and then you
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: go and then then he readjusts his lee shoulder almost
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: to us, Alpa, super dangerous there. That was one thing
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: we talk about. We cannot go backwards to the left
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: because that's where we get square and ilia, dude, he's
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: very front heavy, so he will attack you quick and
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: he gets there fast.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Well, if he can recover from this, it's going to
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: be a big lesson, a big lesson learn. And you know,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I wonder if he'll still have those celebration dinners the
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: night before.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: There's no way he better not his team. That's that's
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: out to his coaches, to be honest.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: With you, It's amazing. Hubris is an amazing thing. Like it.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: People love that kind of confidence, They love that belief
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: in themselves and when someone pulls it off. People were
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: talking for days about the all of Verify. You know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: he celebrated the night before in that crazy and.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: It been it worked that time and it.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: But the lack of experience being the nail, so much
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: experience being the hammer, and.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: He never thought he had to be here.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: But you keep saying that they wanted to go back
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: to this thing that you said that people don't think
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: you're athletic, and I don't agree with that. I don't
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: understand why I think that. I mean, maybe watches the
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Michael Johnson fight. Even I think.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I got to college, you know, my freshman year of
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: college and I did a uh cartwell to a backflip
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and these guys two. One guy was like, I would
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: have never fucking guessed you could do some ship like that. Like,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I just don't understand. You know, if you look at me,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I don't look like an athlete.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: But dude, you.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Want no I know, I know. I just see you talking. Perception.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: No, no, no, your perception's crazy. Listen, you look like
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: an athlete. What are you talking?
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: He said? Dude, he sent me in this picture when
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: I first met him from he went up to do
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: a clinic with his coach up in Granby with Ben
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Cherrington and uh, he sends me this video. I don't
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: know where. I open it up and he's got a
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: soccer ball and he's in this authority of with the
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: pads out of the ground and he's got his phone
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: set up on that the pads that are against the wall.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: He throws the soccer ball up in the air and
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: he does one of those bicycle kicks he played, just
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: like one or two years. He did a bicycle kick,
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: landed on his feet and the ball knocked the phone
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: off the freaking thing. Dude, he hit the freaking phone.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: There was the coolest thing I've ever seen. I was like, Bro,
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: you are DUTs. This guy snowboarding. We snowboard because I
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: wrote professional when I was younger, got taken out out
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: of high school four and he this dude. He would
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: catch things so fast and his tumbling. There was one
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: time we watching him and he was in moguls and
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: mogo stuck on a snowboard. He does this three sixty,
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: catches his edge, falls to his back and bounces off
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: one of the moguls to a backflip right back into
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: the moguls. And do these people on this side thought
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: you bet to do that? Ship They're look dude like Bro,
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: his tumbling skills. Dude, you're freaking DUTs. You are an athlete.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: I think everybody goes.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Well, you're not built like paul A Colstaf. That's what
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: you mean. You know, It's like you're not you know,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: there's there's guys that have less body fat than you,
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: and guys have more prominent muscles than you. But nobody
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: looks at you fighting and doesn't think you're athletic. That's crazy.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: I think it's the experts after the Paddy fight saying, oh,
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: he looks sloppy, and those fights got to be sloppy.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Those people are retarded. Yeah, did that fight you like
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: like chaos? Looks like you were going to press him
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: and you it also looked like you were kind of
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: disdainful of his ability to hurt you.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Then he just yeah, you know exactly.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: Yeah, once once I didn't respect his power. I was like,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I'm fucking walking through.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's what it looked like. It looked like
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: you were just just trying to make it as chaotic.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: You make it sound like you had like a water boy,
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: like someone was like the water sucks, he's making the noise.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: No, you don't know. But that's also probably a good
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: thing that you think about yourself that way, you know,
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: because it forces you to rise above and beyond anybody's
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: expectations of you, you know. And I think one of
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: the things about this fight that makes it so important
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: is because Ilia was so dangerous, you had to get
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: like deep in the zone. You couldn't have a moment
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: like the Max fight.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Well what the Max fight got me here? Without that,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I would have never been as hungry. I said it
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: was gonna happen, and it didn't happen, didn't happen, didn't happen,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: then it happened. It's like, okay, now I can I
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: can never let my parents seem me like that again.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: That was that was a driving factor, like I can
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: never let my mom I remember getting knocked out. I
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: don't remember get knocked out. I got knocked out. I
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: don't remember anything. I don't remember him getting his hand raised.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: And it had to have been forty minutes to an hour.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: And then I just my first recollection as being in
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: the ambulance and see my mom's face.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Did I tell you that? Can I tell that story?
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, tell me what I did because I still
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: So we're in the ambulance, okay, and you never know.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: When I came back, your mom standing outside the back
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: doors and we're waiting for the driver that that there's
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: a medic in there with us. But he's he's good,
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: but he keeps asking the same question over and over
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: that I'm worried about, Like you know, everybody's parents are
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: different on how they react, you know. And his mom
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: was just cool, just like I was so impressed. I
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: was so impressed with her just spirit of seeing that happen.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: But just is laying there and he's like he's cool
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: and everything he does so he's got like this cool
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: like lay like he's like, you know, just got stopped.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: And he's laying there and he's like he'll look at
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: me and he gets like his head. He's like, I
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: got knocked out. And I was like, yeah, it's like round,
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: what round? And I said last second of the fight,
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: and he goes, good for him, dude, I'm telling you,
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: like two minutes to go by and we'd just be
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: having a normal conversation and he look at me, are
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: get knocked out? And I was like, yep, dude, it
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: happened over and over, yes, But him saying good for
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: him the way he said it every time that he
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: came back to it, like, that's the type of person
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: Justin is, like if he losing competition, the better man
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: won that night, And that to me is something that
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: stands out to me. That's character character of him saying
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: when he does it that that's subconscious traits that you have.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: That character is also the character that allows you to
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: reach your full potential absolutely because you're not being held
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: back by any bullshit ego things not fake. Because there's
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: a lot of people that are held back. As good
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: as they are, they don't ever reach their full potential
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: because they have some bullshit ego problem.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Absolutely they care of what everybody thinks.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: And that in that situation, losing that fight in the
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: last second of the last round and having that reaction,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: that is the truest test of character that that man
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: is ever going to go through. That is true, a
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: test of character in front of the whole world.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: But I remember first to see her, I'm all's face though,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: so I face, and I saw no concern. She was
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: worried about me, but she was not concerned chosen freaked out. No,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: she wasn't freaked out at all. I was like, and
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: that's when I I never I never reset and asked
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: if I had gotten knocked out again after that moment,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: No, No, it happened for probably I'd say you probably
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: asked it six or seven times and then once. Then
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: we were cool for probably five minutes before I went
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: to the hospital. They were totally cool. The cool part
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: about this, Joe is those are some of my and
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: it sucks because he's taking a shot like this, But
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: me as a coach and as someone that just loves fighting,
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: and loves the inspiration and what these guys do is
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: those are my proudest moments. Winning a fight like this.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: It was proud and and you know, take it in.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: You're going, wow, this is a cool spot to be
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: in and you have to be grateful for it. But
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: there's times where I'm caught smiling when my fighters are down,
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: like when when Camorrow got kicked and I stood next
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: to him with the biggest smile just because I'm like, dude,
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: you went out on your shield. You were looking so
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: good and this is the way you stand up again.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: So important to meet Justin Sallais one time with Tim Means.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: It was one of my proudest moments, just to see
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: his subconscious like I love the mindset. Hard knee dude.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Tim Means hits him with the knee and he fights
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: through it a little bit and takes another knee and
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: he goes down and he's on the ground and his
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: right leg is still like moving and he's like still
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: punching and he's out, and I'm like, dude, that's a
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: fighting spirit, Like there is no quitted like you. You're
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: fighting through being knocked out, and subconsciously he's still in
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: the fight and his body is still reacting that way
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: instead of shelling up and being like I just got rocked.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna shell up. I could not wait to get
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: into the octagon, and they're like not trying to let
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: me in. I'm like, let me just get over to
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: him and sit next to him. Put some ice on
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: the back. When we stop, Guys, I'm always over to
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: the other opponent first. To me, That's that's the coolest part,
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: is being able to see someone go out there and
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: do their best and then to watch them come back.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: And that's why I'm very excited to kind of see
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: what happens with Ilia. This is gonna be a hard
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: one to overcome, but I hope he does because he's
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: he's he's that talented. If he takes the right lessons,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: that's going to be a super inspirational thing to overcome.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: It's going to be hard, but I I sure.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Hope we get the witness at I wonder if he's
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: going to stay at one fifty five. There are big
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: guys at one fifty five, and he's he wasn't that
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: big for forty five. You know, you think about weight
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: cutting in the modern era, like you were you're considerably
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: bigger than him. When you guys were standing next to
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: each other like this is there's a big difference.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I've also really focused on getting bigger last three or
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: four fights.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I mean, I you were eighty.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Eight.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: He was touched.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I touched eighties. This fight. We waited on Saturday eleven Saturday.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: When I went to bed, I think I was on
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: eighty four.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: And then I think when I woke up, I was
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: like one seventy six. That's how much WI we're flowing.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: It's crazy. Our bodies are crazy.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Right, especially because all the weight cutting. But I think
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: when I.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Got there, I was pissing so much. I was actually
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: too hydrated for the drug test. So I had to
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: piss three three times. They couldn't drink water.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: You were too hydrated for a drug test.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, so if the piss is too diluted, then they
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: make you do it again.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: Really Yeah, that's that's why, you know, doing it after
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: a fight. I used to do it after the fights
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: all the time. But your adrenaline's going so you don't peek,
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: so it takes a long times. Like we've sat in
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: locker rooms for hours waiting for the pissed test. But
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: when you're doing it after like rehydration, that's a shitty
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: thing because these guys have to hydrate. Everybody's fucking taking
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: it as much fluids as they can, so that makes
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: it tough. But with the weight cutting piece, with him
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: going back down, I agree with you. I think Ilia
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: is a smaller body, but he's also a big advantage
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: for alias speed and when you go up and wait,
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: that speed is a huge factor. If you see a
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: lot of guys go up, like with Max, Max kept it,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: kept his speed when he came up. When he went
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: back down, I think everybody was like, Oh he beat Max,
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: He beat a drained Max.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: I think that weight cut down to forty five for
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: him was brude.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: That's and this is where from like a coaching standpoint,
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: if it is hard for you to make it at
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: that weight, I care about the longevity of a person
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: and I've seen guys get dropped with jabs because of
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: bad weight cuts. Yes, and that going back down, and
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: that's to me the scariest part in this in this
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: this fight game, well, I think.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: There's two things we have to change the fight game.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: One of them is weight cutting. In two of them
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: is your gloves. But the weight cutting thing, don't you
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: think that we need more weight classes? Uh? Or I
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: should say that, I should say, do you think we
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: need more?
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: I think there's there's there's many ways. I think you're
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: gonna have to have some type of a weight class,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: and there's different ways to do it. Like maybe you
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: have where you can't go over a certain amount of
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: weight after you make weight and you weigh in a
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: week out where you can really recover.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Because I think guys are gonna do it anyway. It's
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: gonna I think.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: I think for me, I want nothing to change. I mean,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: we are grown ass men and women and we're making
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: the choices right.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: But you can make fifty five and it's good for
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: your frame. Now, machine is for me to make fifty five.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Sure it's hard, No, no, no, I'm not thinking it's easy.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: But you can make it. You've made it over and
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: over and over again. But like, think about guys that
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: are in between.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: Like's sixty or sixty five are like in boxing, now,
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: seventy to eighty.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Five is crazy, eighty five to two oh five is bananas,
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: and then two to sixty.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Five that's those weak classes are already watered down in
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: a way, and so you're just gonna water it down more.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: So these are my thoughts and my research that I've
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: done that that it's it's I've talked to doctor d
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: about it, and I want to get some expert, some
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: doctor who can actually talk to me about this, because
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: when I started researching boxing and why is there so
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: many deaths in boxing, what stood out to me was
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: almost every death in boxing in the last ten to
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: fifteen years, there's every once in a while it's from
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: a punch where they get dropped and they don't get
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: up and they get hemorrhagy. Almost all of them are
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: past the ninth round, especially the ones I'm talking about
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: that don't take a punch. They're past the ninth round
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: and it looks like they start to get tired and
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: they're just like, hey, I need to take a knee
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: and lay down. A lot of these guys are winning
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: the fight and not even taking a lot of damage.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: And if we're cutting weight the day before, you're teaching
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: your body to sweat and sweat and sweat. To me,
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: I believe because I've had a fighter where, you know,
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Comor on his last fight, we were crapping so bad,
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: so scary, so freaking scary. Like I was within like
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: like minutes of call, and I talked to the whole
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: team about it. But if you dehydrate yourself, think of
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: my lips, if they get dehydrated, they crack when I smile.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: And if you dehydrate your brain, and I talked to
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: doctor Di. I was like, could that be something, if
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: you dehydrate your brain, we cast something. He's like absolutely,
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: And then I started to research that. But if you
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: go back and look at all the boxers and if
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: we can get someone that could do their true research
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: that understands this stuff, that to me is like what
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: scares me about weight cutting because you're training your body
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: to lose that amount of weight and when you start
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: to do things in patterns, you just took all the
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: nutrients out of your body and then you're going hard
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: in a fight like that. And I was like, the
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: big thing with that Tony Ferguson fight, that's kind of
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: funny now, but it wasn't funny to me. I didn't
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: give no water for five round fight. That is crazy,
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: And that the longer you take your brain to that
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: point of dehydration, why.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Didn't you give them water? You just forgot dude.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we were locked in.
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: This guy don't train with water. So it's like, dude,
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Drink water because everyone was like water for pussies, no.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Talking about the you don't drink any water and training
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: it all.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: He'll drink afterwards, Like we did this fight.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: They made me this day.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: So do you think that that.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: That no, because I it doesn't. It can't because I'm
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: fucking working right now. I'm locked in, Like I might
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: not get water one day, you know they might. I
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: might want water even.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: When you're doing strike, the conditioning, everything nothing.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: I never drink water.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Wow, So you make sure you're hydrated before you get
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: in there. I drink a lot after And once you're
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: in there, you're just going, that's crazy, asshole. You know
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Ramadan's nuts, Like I know Bellall was training with no
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: water and you know, drinking no water during the day
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: and then training again at nighttime, and you know that's
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: that's got to be so hard. But going through hard
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: training sessions and no water, so you do it. But
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: so there's two things going on. When I would think
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: maybe you could do more work and get more round,
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: more reps and more of this if you're rehydrating. But
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: then the other thing is like would you and how
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: much mental toughness? So you're getting by and the mental
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: toughness thing ultimately won you this fight. There is a
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: lot of human beings at the top, top level of
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: the sport that would have folded in that second round.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: You did look the happiest look you gave you.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Not once, not for one second did I contelict that
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: I was done.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: No, I mean you, that's that's how you hit me.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: I was like, oh fuck, you didn't get to hear
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: him the he goes Dude, that was a good body shot.
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, that was who does that? Who's
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: this down?
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Is?
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Like? Dude, the look on his face wasn't like like eyebrows,
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: like a like a frame cabin.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: Well, even after you were talking about how skilled he was,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: you were talking about I.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Mean, I could go I could go so many different
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: ways with how I reacted this fight. I just wanted
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: to be known how disrespectful he would have been if
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: he beat me, if you put me to sleep, if
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: his I mean, can you imagine how shitty he would
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: have been? And I mean it would have it would
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: have if it was, and the world, the world would
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: have been fucking I was fighting for so much crazy,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: I was fighting for so much that night. You know,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I'm never gonna let people for one how special what
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I've done is, and it would have taken all of
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: it away with the loss, and I wasn't gonna let
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: that happen.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: How about the people call it hi his loaded gloves.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Do you see the picture that there's like rocks in
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: his head? Soliment? Have they not watched any of his fights?
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: People saying I'm juiced? What a compliment? People saying I
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: got bricks in my fucking gloves. What a compliment?
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: People are You can't read the Internet. There's always gonna
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: be so insane something I know. But yeah, you go.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I got here because I was petty. I read comments.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: I read comments.
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: They fuel you.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: They do, they do.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: I've talked to him and I told him not to do
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: it because I'm like, bro, this fucks with so many people.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: We had the conversation outside. It'll cause your mind to
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: go crazy. And he's like, I love it so much.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: David Goggins takes haters and he records them on a
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: loop and then plays it to himself while he runs.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's crazy.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I don't I don't need it. I don't need I
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: have it on video. I know, right, I know what
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: they're saying. I knew what they were saying every fucking day, right,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: And that's you know partly why one.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: Well, it's you know that Teddy Roosevelt quote about the
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: man the arena, you know, Yep, that's what it is.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: It's like there's always going to be people on the sidelines.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: They're talking.
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: It's impossible, especially at the levels that you're fighting, because
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: the ambusinesses you are.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: You can never make everybody happy.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: No, that's why it's hard to be a champion.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Sucks.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: The pressure.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: It really is detrimental to like overall, like what you're
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: trying to achieve, and it's just it's so hard.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Well, you can't make everybody happy because some people are
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: just not happy period. It's only you being awesome. You
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: can want them to happen. Yeah, but some people are not.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: They're not healthy, they're not mentally healthy, their brain isn't right.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: They they haven't done the right things in their life,
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: and they see success as being somehow or another it
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: steals their own personal joy. Other people's success is bad
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: because they compare themselves to other people, and I realized
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: that they.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I love seeing things happen, good things happen for people,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: like because when Max knock me, I was like, good
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: for him, Like, I'm fucking imagine what he's feeling right now. Yeah.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: But because you have given everything you have, You've truly
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: maximized your potential. You've made mistakes, you've made great decisions,
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: and ultimately you wound up winning the biggest fight of
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: all time. Now to exceed, but that's that's why you
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: can be happy for other people.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: To exceed your expectations. From twenty seventeen, to exceed his
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: expectations from twenty eleven, to exceed my own expectations is
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I mean, I cannot describe how special and how good
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: that makes me feel, you know, in general, like that
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: was my goal.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: To ex He didn't exceed the man you you. I
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: always had a feeling that you're going to do some
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: wild ship and after the Tony Fergus you.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: Couldn't have said I was going to do this.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: There was a lot of conversations that I had with
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: people that were counting you out. Those I don't think
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: I think he can win this fight. I mean I
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: said it on the podcast. I even said it to
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: Ilia like Iliot was saying it was.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: I've seen that podcast and he was so wrong so
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: many times, you know, not just the whole He has
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: zero chance against Patty. He said something about how I
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: probably sleep during the day more than I do at
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: night because I party too much. And it's like, you
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: were so you don't remember him saying that. He says
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: something about weed, and you're like, I don't care about weed,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: but for him to think that that's true, it's fucking insane.
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: And you have five looses, just he's got one lucid
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: he's gonna have.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: I was like wow. I was like wow, what a
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: fucking idiot, you know, like to think that I got
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: here by just being a guy that drinks and you know,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: has fun all the time. Like that's fucking crazy. My
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: life is so boring. I don't go to bars. I mean,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: I don't do any of that.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: I sleep.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: I sleep eight to ten hours every single night. I
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: was sleeping ten but it's too much and now I
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: have to sleep eight. But for this whole week, I
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: was sleeping twelve hours every single night. Of the the
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: fight week.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: That's nice.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: It was so fucking nice.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: That is nice.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: You know, It's just one of those things. If he
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: wanted to watch your you have a YouTube channel, you
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: could watch well.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I mean, he was also something to be said about
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: how I knew he was watching. If you go back
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: to my other like we always show sparring, will always
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: show me he emits. I didn't show myself HITTI mits
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: one time this camp. I didn't show myself sparring one
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: time in this camp.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Purposely because we were switching up the game plan big time.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: He had no he had he had expectations, but they
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: none of them were based in reality, and I controlled that.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, And then you know when I did make the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: when I did make the comment about his wife, you know,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: it was in a in an interview like this where
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: we're just fucking around, and I said it in jest.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I didn't ye it was one hundred percent true. I
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: was like, he's so fucking annoying. I couldn't imagine being
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: in the same room with him, you know, with his
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: pompous attitude, you know, and you just trying to like
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: hang out with the guy, but he's like constantly stealing
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: all the thunder and it's irrational, and it's like I
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: would leave him too, Like I mean, if that's my part,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Like that's why I broke op with my girlfriends, just
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: because they were somewhat like that, I mean, And so
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: I didn't mean it in a mean way, like I
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: would never dig at somebody and I would never make
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: fun of someone's personal experience. But that was like honest,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: that was just my honest take, and I was joking,
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: but but it was true. I said so many two
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: things to him. I said the so many. I told
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: him that he's gonna go to the second round, go
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: to the third round. You're gonna be fucked because you're
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: not gonna be able to put yourself out of this.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: You know, with the way that you're thinking, there's no
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: possible way you can have these expectations, face adversity and
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: then come out in a positive way. There's no way
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: it happened. You're good, You could dig deep, and you
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: could be even more of a narcis assist than it
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: might work. But you you know you're gonna you're gonna
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: walk yourself into a situation that is gonna fucking be
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: detrimental to you, and this is detrimental to his psyche.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: And this is ninety. So again I want to see him.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I will see you think how he adjusts to loss,
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: but you.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Don't see how I want to see it will be
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: with himself.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: The strategy has to change you. You can't just hit
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: the gas like that. And we've seen that with boxers.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: We've seen that with all kinds of fighters. They just
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: think they can just hit the gas. Well, obviously you
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: had to make your own adjustments.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: You know how he overcame the Max fight. How he
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: adjusted Becky Do you guys did you play golf every
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: day every year?
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: It's six months straight?
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: Wow, every day, dude, this guy got really good. Yeah.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: DC was braving about it. He's like, I never seen
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: anything like it. He goes this guy's and golf has
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: been playing for years. It's really good, really funny. It's well,
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: you know, that's the mindset that's coachable, that's a coach
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: whole mindset, competitive and also objective. You know, it's the
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: same reason why you think you're not athletic. It's like
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: you can look at yourself in a critical way and
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: then see what adjustments you have to make where a
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: lot of people are delusional, and that delusional keeps you
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: from getting good at what you perceive.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: Dude, you got it. Perspective is everything, like how are
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: you seeing things? And you always got to see it
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: from the internal peaks and valleys like this right here,
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: Like we come home and even through the airport, we're like,
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: there's no celebration. I can see it is what it
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: is afterwards, like celebration of what we did. Someone was
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: buying us drinks. Like we got there, We got there
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: a little bit early.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: It should have been a fucking parade.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: I know, but I don't want that.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: I know. I know you don't.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I don't want you don't, but I have to do
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: it because I do need to take advantage. Like I
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: am the champion. It's crazy, you can't fathom it, but
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: I am the champion and I need to I need
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: to be the champion and be the enjoy being the
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: champion for a little bit.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: And you need you to look at yourself in the
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: mirror and be like there's times to sit back and
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: have bliss where you're like, man, I freaking did it.
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: Like there's times that really.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I thought that would come back.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: I mean you run down fucking yelling out different brands
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: of mayonnaise, clothes and make bad decisions. You're like, well
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: is that from ship?
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: Dude?
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: We did fucking three fists of fucking vodka.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Are you going to continue fighting right now? I'm planning
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: on it.
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: Yeah, because you were doing I don't know.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Again, there's not there's not something natural in me that
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: feels like it's over mm. So that's all I can say.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Also, after a performance like that, yeah, I mean I'm
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: obviously also capitalized because the financial financial Yeah, but.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: I'm in a I'm in a place where it's like
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: I deserve to be compensated for what.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I have done, not for.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: What I'm going to do, or I don't. I shouldn't
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: have to fight next to be UFC three hundred, UFC
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: three twenty four, and now this. Those are the biggest
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: stages that the UFC needed somebody to to do something phenomenal,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: and they picked me every single time, and and I delivered.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I wasn't the main event of UFC three hundred, but
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Komaine Events still stole the show even though I lost.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: And so I think I need to be compensated for
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: what I've done that's where.
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: For like a next fight, like yeah reading the book.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no, I'm not talking about for
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: the next fight. I'm talking about the UFC should make
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: a company and give me equity in that company, and
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: you know, so I can build passive income like that.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying that's what.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Have you talked to? No?
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: No, I would, I would. I've never asked. Luckily, I
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: have a personal assistant now, so she asks for things
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: for me. But I've never been the guy that asked
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: for things. I wish. I wish people that were opposing
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: me to ask for things and get all kinds of things.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I wish I was giving those things without asking because
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: obviously people know that it's appreciated and I like it.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: But I'm not ever gonna like, I'm not taking this
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: truck from fucking Armon. There's absolutely no way I would
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: take a truck. He never shook my hand.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Oh this is Armond Saruk. We should explain that. So
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: armed Saruki and he he bet a million dollars on
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: justin his friend and one he won like five three
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: I believe seven.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, seven, He's gonna buy me a truck. But
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: I mean I would come a truck. Well, now I
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: just saw yours. Get a raptor. I have a I
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: have a Shelby Raptor. But I think now that I've
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: seen your truck, that will be my next truck.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: Also, it has USA on the side.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: Yeah, no wrap, So you didn't do that rap That
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: is ship.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: I want that truck.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: You need that truck. Yeah, tell armand buy you that
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: fuck truck.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: No, I'm not taking the truck, but the fun.
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: If I was armed, I would force it down your throat.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: I would. I would deliver it to your house and
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: give you You wont him five million.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Around in a fucking truck? That a dude ball for
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: me every day. I don't know. I just truck that
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: we didn't shake on it.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: I don't give a fuck. Take that guy down truck. Yeah,
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: take the truck, dude. It's first of all, it's cool.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: And he might also be an next opponent. I mean
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: that's possible. That's the guy.
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he's the guy.
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: That's the guy. I mean, if there's anybody else in
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: the division, that is the guy. I mean now that
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Islam is up at one seventy and who else is there?
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: That's the guy.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: Yeah, And what a division? I mean holy ship, and
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: now Charles is saying he wants doing that. Being a
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: division is being an F and the lightweight title on
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: the line. That would be crazy. So there's fights available, Yes,
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: there is big big What do you what are your
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: thoughts like when you're thinking about competing? Who do you
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: think it will be? You think it will be Arman?
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: No, I can't say, did I have a name?
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Do you think Elie's going to try for a rematch?
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: No, he doesn't get a rematch. He can try, but
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: he doesn't get one. Wow, he quit on the stool.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: He quit twice. I stopped him twice. What else do
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I have to do? Plus, his next challenge can't be me.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: He needs to fight Patty or someone like that is.
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: Does Patty have a fight scheduled?
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: That's to fight?
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Then was a game. It's a fucking crazy game.
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: But it's a crazy game. It's the craziest game, I
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: mean by far. Think about where you were when you
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: lost to Max and then where you are now, Just
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: like think of the highs.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Wasn't that long ago? Either?
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: Was not that long ago?
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: Now you got the the BMF champ wanting to fight you.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: I have every belt, Like I have three three belts,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: three real belts, two introms, but those are fucking real belts,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: a real belt, the b MF belt, and then the
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: UFC two fifty belt.
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: Yeah, the UFC two fifty belts.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Cool, it's so heavy heavy being a fan of this sport, Like,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: what do you want to come in here and do
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: things that are not easily attainable? And I've done a
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: few things that are impossible to obtain attain nine bonuses
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: in my first seven fights, sixteen fights in the UFC,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: I probably what like twelve main events? Yeah, main events,
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: And to be put in the main event of a
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: UFC fight is fucking huge. Like you know, you go
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: on the poster. Not many people get to experience that.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: And I've done it almost every single time, and so
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I mean it's I've done something unattainable.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: It's got to feel good. It feels great. It feels
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: as a thing as a fan, It feels good.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Right as a fan of yourself, of the sport, as
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: a fan of the sport, getting to see what you've done. Yeah,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: what do you think about Cereal?
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: Gone, we didn't do it.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: So we're in the locker room like, oh, you guys
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: are going to go to a different staging room as
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: soon as Bruce Buffer starts announcing. So they took us
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: into a room with no screens. That's probably where the
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: video of me shadow boxing with the flag, yeah, where
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: we were in there for like thirty minutes before I
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: walked and we could hear you know.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: A little bit, you hear that.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: I heard the ding of the you know, the end
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: of the round the horn. I was like, okay, was
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: that round one? Yes? And then you hear nothing. And
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: then I didn't even hear the finish, Like I didn't
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: hear the crowd roared.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: I didn't hear the crowd.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: And then I heard and still ye right.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: Yep, because he was no. I thought her name is still.
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: We were gone.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: We heard gone, Yeah, they're gone. I was like, oh,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: fucking one.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: And then that guy moves like a cat.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: It's crazy he for a heavyweight. I love watching heavyweights.
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: I can move like they remember the Mike Tyson era,
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: just watching I was I love my watching Mike Tyson
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: and just watching all the guys he fought. Heavyweight boxing
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: was so good at that time, people used to jump rope. Now,
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: it was like like, I'm going to say that that
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: all heavyweights are lazy, but you know, my knees are bad.
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: I'm a big person. Like those guys can move, and
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: Cereal Gun is one of those.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: Guys, but he's the most so fast, and think about
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: him as he started out as a basketball player, So
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: think about basketball. It's all these pliometrics. You're constantly changing
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: direction and moving and jumping.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Agility, Yes, it's all agility.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: And that translates so brilliantly to his striking style because
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: you've got a guy who's two hundred and forty eight
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: pounds who moves like a middleweight or moves like even
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: lighter than that. I mean it really moves like a
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: walterweight almost. He's fast and just very agile. And when
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: you notice it is like, because you know how good
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: Perra is and Perarra getting lit up on his feet
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: like that and then drop with a jab, it's.
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: Like whoa, yeah, perfect time. And it's heavyweights, like those
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: are big dudes. Yeah, Like obviously Peyer's put on some weight,
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: but it's frame size. Yeah, it said, you know, and
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: Peyer's got a big frame, but.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: It's there's levels here.
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: Your body's been that weight for a long period of time.
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: Like it's again that consistency, it's it's it's MMA guy
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: going into boxing. Yeah, there's shorter rounds, but you're hitting
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: sprints every round. The fact it's a different fact. There's
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: there's you have to do it for a period of
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: time to be able to adjust to that. That's a
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: different It's everything that you do. You have to slowly
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: go into those positions. You can't just jump into it.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: And when you think about how big he was at
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: two o five, it maybe would have even been better
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: for him to not really put on much weight. I agree,
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: kind of like Cyril. Gon's a grappler and you gotta
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: be fast, Yeah, you gotta be Like your speed's a factor,
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: it's a giant factor. And he's got insane power. I
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: mean his power has always been heavy.
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: To carry that power, absolutely, he's not going to lose
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: it because he was so big.
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: He was two fifty one, and I was thinking, man, now,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: it's like, even though you have more power, you're also
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: moving around with extra weight on your body, like you're
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: you're weighed down more by gravity. I mean, Gon looked
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: so light and so loose. He's just like that style
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: for a heavyweight, light on the toes, like that is
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: so unusual and not allowing Paradis set his feet. No, never,
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: but that's very smart and even like feigning takedowns. It's
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: not like he committed to those, but he's got them
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: thinking about we drop him with the product into it. Now,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: here's the question because one of the things that Perreira
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: is saying is a lot of there's an illegal shot.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: A lot of the shots were illegal into the back
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: of the head, but a lot of them were too.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: The first one when they yeah, it's.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a two inch line down like a mohawk.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: This this whole. But it's like this is legal, this
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: is legal, Yeah, this is legal. This is illegal legal illgal.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: I mean a couple of those shots definitely landed illegally, but.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: There's don't see him drop his head down to the
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: exactly so you're moving, you know, that's legal. That's there's
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: a there's a couple of illegal one, three or four, right,
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: but it's also movement and chaos.
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: It's not like he's deliberately it's like get someone.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: Of the iron purpose Like if I was that good,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I would touch their chance, right.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: How was the fight stopped there on the ground?
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: No, No, kept going this is this is actually the
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: finish of the fight. That they caught him with a
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: big elbow right here and rocked him. I mean, Perera
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: was in real trouble. I mean it was he got
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: fucked up and syro Gone did a fantastic job. He
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: really put it on him.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: Should you ever stop a championship fight?
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: That was it right there?
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: I would have at that point.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: It looked like, yeah, I'm not saying it wasn't.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: I haven't watched a fight.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Here.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: Here's the stoppage right here.
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: You can see I haven't either, and I'm just watching this. Yeah,
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: that's it was.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: A cumulative It was so many blows. Maybe he could
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: have taken one or two more after that, for sure.
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: But Pereira is pissed off at Herb Dean and he's
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: saying Herb Dean should never referee again because he allowed
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: those shots in the back of the head.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: I mean, you're in the moment. I mean, but that's
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: natural for a fighter to do well if the situation
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: you would to. First off, you gotta bring awareness to
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: it so they're not you know, there you have to
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: always be aware of, hey, I could have did better here,
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: because that's how we all grow. So we need to
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: do we need to talk about it. But from what
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: I just watched there, and I haven't watched the whole fight,
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: was the fight competitive at all? Yes, okay, the first
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: round was, so that would change a little thing. But
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: from what I just watched right there at the end,
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: that was that look finish.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: The refs have such a tough job. I've been I'm
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: notorious for being really hard on these refs because I mean,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: it's they You expect them to be, You need them
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: to be perfect. Their their main job is to protect you.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: When I thought, Michael Chandler, I'm still and again, I
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: only speak about it now because I've never had a
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: retraction from the referee whenever he poked me in the
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: eye and then he didn't get in between us, and
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: he let him hit me with a huge shot, and
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: then he doesn't give me my time to rest, not
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: rest to recover, and there was only five seconds left
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: in the round, so it turned out that I got
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: to break anyways. But he goes in there, he says,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: are you good? I said, no, I'm not good. He
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: just poked me in the fucking eye and he says, okay,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: well are you good? And so then it's like can
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I still fight? So that I said, yeah, I'm good,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: and he said, okay, go who what.
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: Referee was this?
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: The guy with the braid that he puts in his
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: belt Trump.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Mike bel Trump. And so I was very upset that
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: he let Michael Chanler land that shot. And I know
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: why he was so scared of the fucking heat we
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: were throwing that he didn't want to jump in there
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: and get in the middle of it. But his job
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: is to protect me, and he failed. He felt so
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: bad right there, and so like after the fact that
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: it's like I need you to acknowledge this so that
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: you do not ever let that happen to another athlete
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: in there, because you fucked up so bad, and you know,
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: he's trying to justify it, and it's like, what the
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: fuck are you doing? How can you justify this? And
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: so that for me, that that that pisces me off,
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: and then the decision not to give me my time,
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: like I need an explanation, you know, and because I
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: need to know that you are going to learn from
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: this experience, And for right now, I still believe that
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: he doesn't think he did anything wrong, and so I'm
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: still upset about that.
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: Well, once you say, petty, you know what you should
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: be in that situation because you say to someone you
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: got poked in the eye? Are you good? And you're like, yeah,
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: I'm good, but I got poked in the fucking eye?
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: And then you're supposed to say two seconds or.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Two seconds, but are you good? I said, well yeah,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: he said, Okay.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: Are you good? Is not the right question. You have
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: five minutes? Are you ready to fight? Can you see?
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: Do you need to bring in a doctor? There's a
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: series of questions, but the you have five minutes is
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: very important for a fighter getting poked in the eye,
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: you have five minutes to recover it.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: I didn't feel like I didn't know. I didn't know
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: what the point. I feel pressure in my face right now,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: like I don't just feel You're not.
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: Gone to know for a couple of seconds, you're gonna
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: you're gonna blink a little bit, move around a little bit.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: All right, I'm good, And that's when you're it's supposed
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: to be very clear. That's when you're ready to re engage.
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: And that's what I'm saying, that's the mistake he has
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: to learn from because it was such a And after
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: the round ends, I walk home to him like, dude,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: get your fucking head of your ass. What the fuck
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: are you doing. He's like, go to your stool. He's like, no,
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: what the fuck are you doing? Like your job is
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: to protect me. You just let me get hit with
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: a huge fucking shot. What is going on? And he's like,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: go to your stool. Go to your stool, and I
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: sit down and then boom. Never thought about it again.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: But still pissed off about that one.
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: You should be. I mean, that's that makes sense.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: Who's the ref that against Kabb? After the fight, he
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: corners me in the hallway and he's like, you know,
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I know you. I know you would never never tap.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: I was like, I tapped three times. He's like, no,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: you would never tap. I'm like, I'm like, dude, if
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: from the horse's mouth, I'm telling you I tapped, and
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: he still was like, nah, no, you wouldn't. I was like,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: what the fuck? How can we get through this?
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: Three times and you went to sleep. I've seen that. Yeah,
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: I tapped three tapped one percent.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: And then he's like no, you you know I know
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: that you with your the way that you compete. Who's
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: the reference I hate to I don't want to throw her.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: I only want to throw him one of the bus,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: you know, because it's like his his intentions were good
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: for me. You know, he believed I was.
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: He gave me a chance.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: He gave me a chance. But like I fucking tapped man,
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: like I did, and I went to sleep because of it.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: And luckily there's no detrimental and chronic you know, long
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: lasting problems because of getting choked out. So I'm not
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: there's no repercussions. Yeah, there's no concussion, there's no TB.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: I like, it really is not detrimental at all. As
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: long as you don't hold it too long and I die.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: As long as I wake up, I'm good. And so
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: I was like, okay, like the repercussions aren't as severe,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: and so like whatever, I'll just let this go. But
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: ultimately he did it. I mean I was even when
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: I told him he didn't believe me.
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: That was the first thing you said. When you jumped up.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: You went over to him, and then you guys had
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: the conversation afterwards, but you went over to him. Saying, dude,
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: what the fuck I tapped? He's like that we see
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: him later, but that was he didn't.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: I was like, dude, I tapped three times. I tapped
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: three fucking times.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty obvious.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: And everyone was like, oh, you said, you know you're
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: some kind of fucking you think you're some kind of superman.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Why would you tap? It's like when your life is ending,
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: you know, you're a fool if you don't understand that.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Like I knew I was dying and that's just where
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: I was, So that's not crazy.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: You are to everybody, he's in their eyes are like, oude,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: I know you better? You do you never tap like that?
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: That's what I mean. People think the best. That's how
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: he the best thing up to this moment is people
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: people don't give me credit for my intellectual abilities. And
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: I've also played into that, and I've also understood how
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: big of an asset is for people to approach me
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: like that, you know, thinking that I'm just some animal
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: that doesn't think or feel or whatever whatever people think,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: or I think I'm retarded.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Well, I think what it is is when you are
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: such an animal, people think you can't be smart because
- 1:43:15Speaker 2: the smart person would be aware of the consequences and
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: wouldn't have the courage to fight the way you fight.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: That's all it is. And they and people who don't
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: have that kind of courage, they like to dismiss people
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: that fight like savages because they got well, savages can't
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: be smart. That's not right, that's not correct.
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: People.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: It's like you see a really hot woman, you gosh,
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: you gotta be a retard. Yeah, Like, no, some of
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: them are really fucking smart and also hot. You know.
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: The world is confusing, Yeah, and you can't categorize people
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: and put them into things little little, you know, little
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: fucking boxes just to make you feel better. Yeah, that's
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: all it is, you know. And you're And the.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Thing is, I never signed up. Like when we were
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: walking out to the press conference, there's like twelve fifteen
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: thousand people. I look at the guy who was like, dude,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: I never ever signed up to be a public speaker.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: What the fuck are we doing here? Like, I never
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: wanted to be in this where I talk in front
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: of this many people. Like that's not what I prepared
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: myself forever. And now I'm in this situation where I
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: have to you know, every single word I get I
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: say before these fights is are analyzed by the world
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: like the whole you know, my father is my dad,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: Like sometimes I get tongue tied, sometimes I miss a
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: living you know what I mean. But nobody if people understand,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: if they had to listen to themselves, they would understand
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: that they also make mistakes, and so it's like, fuck man,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: like I can't be perfect. I'm sorry, I really I
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: didn't mean my dad was my father, even though you
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: know it fucking makes sense and it's true.
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: Listen, you're dealing with a bunch of people that have
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: to write story. I have to it's writing a story
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: because something is interesting. They have to make a story
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: no matter what it is. There. Their job is to
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: create content. And when you your job is to create content,
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: you make content out of nothing and it's not usually
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: it's usually not good. And that's what they're doing good deals.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: If I could have been mentally coached, it would have
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: been in that aspect.
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: Public speaking, just like I think you speak very well.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: No, No, it's like, uh, I just I guess there's
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: no lesson to learn, like you just have to do it.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: It's to experience.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: It's like fighting just do it a bunch of times
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: and you get comfortable with it, or you're naturally talented
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: like Connor. You know, what the fuck is that guy?
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: Smart guy?
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he's created that, Like he's fantastic at that ship.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: I mean, that's where he shines.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: You ain't lying. You are like Tom Petty, Tom Petty
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: at the Hardbreakers. You are petty who cares what people think?
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: I like, you know, I like to see what people
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: are saying about my our interview and the you know,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: because I want to see the perception. I want to just.
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: Keep its find.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: But the thing is you're asking for the perceptions from
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: people that you would probably never fucking talk to in
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: real life because they're.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: Dumb and annoying.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: Those of the people that are most likely gonna comment,
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: the people that are most like gonna You think Michael
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: Jordan's out there leaving YouTube comments. No, right, it's not
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: people that have their fucking shit together and have big goals.
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: People who are really dialed in and really fucking disciplined,
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: and the people whose opinions you'd respect, they're not leaving comments.
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: They're certainly not even sitty comments.
- 1:46:24Speaker 3: You nailed that.
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: That's just the reality and I'm not hating him these people.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: I'm just saying, like I would have been one of them,
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: if you if somebody give me a fucking YouTube account
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: when I was seventeen, I'd be posting the most horrible
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: shit about everybody, right, everybody would. You're a kid, you're
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: or you're a dumb ass. You don't be life together yet.
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: But that's the type. You can't listen to them and
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: take that as gospel because it's just not.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: Just seeing him walk through the airport and just everybody's
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: perception when they see you and meet you is so great, dude.
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: Like it's like people they're like, like.
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: Bro, the haters you if the haters met you.
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but still but it's but one of those things
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: is like the inspiration on people, Like everybody comes up
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: in there. You're a favorite fighter, Like I have the
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: brand that you're the your favorite fighter, favorite fighter. Like
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: that is unique. Yeah, that is like such a cool thing.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: Like you just keep inspiring and very proud to be you.
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: You should be should be so proud you should be.
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: So I asked you after the fight if you're going
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: to fight again. You said you promised your mom you
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: weren't going to make a decision, and so it just
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: settled in. I mean where today we're here, it's Friday.
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: The fight was just Sunday, so it was five days ago.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: So now you're just like, fuck you can How do
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: you not after that? I mean, you're the fucking champ.
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: It would be great to go out like that. It'd
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: be an amazing cap but also great to at least
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: one more.
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see people like to watch chaos at the
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: highest level control of chaos.
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: You know, it'll never be that chaos again because it'll
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: never be like it's hard.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: To understand Jen fly Over, to understand how dangerous this
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: game is if you don't do it right, and so
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: is impossible. Yeah, yeah, so that'll be a huge that's
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: a huge fact. There's a lot of there's a lot
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: of variables that I have to contemplate when it comes
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: to that decision.
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: Do you have a timeline in your head? I do know.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: So you can't remember a time I fought two times
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: in six months in the UFC. I fought two times
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: this year already in less than six months, and so
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: I'm going to take the rest of the year. I
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: need my body to heal it. I mean, I have
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: what's the fucking diagnosis? I have a severe bone endema
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: in the tip of my fibula that happened on Christmas
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: and I have been dealing with that since Christmas Day.
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: So bone bleed like.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: A bruises bruise. Yeah, it's in the bone marrow of
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: the tip of my fibula. Tip of my tibula clacked
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: against my femur and it caused a huge, a deep,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: deep bruise. And I cannot get the hill because I
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: went you know, I was going through training camp. It
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: really hurt after the Patty fight.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: When are you leaving? When? When are you leaving today?
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Will you fly out at like six thirty?
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: It's three o'clock. I want to them to see if
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: I can get you in to Waste Well, let me
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: text break them and see if they can jab some
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: fucking stem cells in there before you.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: I've got I've gone to Vegas. I've got stem cells
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: multiple times.
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: Waste PRP Special Place.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: PRP put me on crutches. It was crazy. And then
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I did a corizone shot on the Friday before I left. Wow,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: and that that helped a lot.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: Well, not training is really what it needs, right and
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: have you been doing any hyperbaric chamber stuff. No, that's huge.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: I got like, you have no idea how against my
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: process you guys would be. I mean I think I
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: got two. I probably had two massages this camp.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: That's amazing. Well, it's really funny if you look at
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: the difference of I mean Iliot Tapooria as a YouTube
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: channel as well, where it's fantastic, really goes into depth.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: But they're using like all this high tech neurostimulation head
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: gear and he's doing all these different things and it's
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: all you see the.
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: Video, it's guy him doing that and then me taking
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: a four to twenty deb.
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Did you see our video where he had
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: the dog choker on his forehead every time he got
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: straight with his legs and got flat, I had bet
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: his legs.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: Again, no three balls of each other, trying to tap
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: into those intuitive abilities with your eyes closed. Like I
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: come from the fucking dirt. You know, my parents fucked up.
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: They didn't put a golf club in my hand at
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: four years old. They threw me in the dirt. And
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: you know, I became comfortable with the uncomfortable.
- 1:50:54Speaker 2: That's a giant factor though. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: It was a huge said, it's such a with everything
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: in life, with everything in.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: My life, wrestling is definitely, definitely has is the biggest
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: variable when it comes to my success. I mean the
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: mental the mental side of it, like nobody can It's
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: very similar to fighting and the fact that nobody can
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: help you, you know, it is against all the blame
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: is on you. All the success goes to you, and
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: you can never use somebody else's excuse. Any team said,
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: I played football, I played baseball, soccer, swim team swim
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: thing's a little different, but you know, there's always a
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: justification for why you failed or why you lost when
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: it comes to those and you could always point to
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: somewhere else or at least a piece, even if it's
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: one or two percent somebody else's fault, then then you
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: can justify it, you know, the loss in wrestling, that's
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: never the case.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: Not only that it's a combat sport that's acceptable in
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: high school, like it's a combats or if they take
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: in junior high school, you take in high school and
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: kids learn like there's guys out there that are different.
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: They're working harder than you, they're more aggressive than you.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: They want it more than you, They put in more
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: time than you. And that's a lesson that's very valuable,
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: cause kids get delusion about what their abilities are, how
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: special they are, who they are. When you get fucking
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: flatlined by some dude who just fucking picks you up
- 1:52:25Speaker 2: and slams you on your back and pins you, and
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: you're like, and he could do it anytime he wants.
- 1:52:29Speaker 2: And this is the reality of training with this guy.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Like over and over and over again, you're like, oh great,
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: he lateral drops you in front of the whole class,
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: Oh great, Like this is this is reality. Now you're
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: either gonna get better or this is gonna keep happening
- 1:52:43Speaker 2: to you over and over and over again. And the
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: mental toughness that comes out of kids that grind it
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: out and wrestling and learn how to wrestle uncomfortable, learn
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: how to cut weight at an early age. All that
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: shit's terrible for you, but the mental aspect of it
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: is fucking undeniable. Think about how many great wrestlers have
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: become great MMA champions.
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: Absolutely, it's the most important thing. Great business people like
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: they I watched a study a long time ago. They
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: said that the boxing and wrestling created the best employees
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: because the accountability, yes, you know, and again the cutting
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: the weight like you're responsible, like that's this is what
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: I love about Justin. Is what makes it so nice
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: to train him is high level people Like I've had
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: the luck to be able to train some high level
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: guys lately, and I don't have to deal with any
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: shit like you know, and it's if I hold myself accountable,
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: then there's there. We don't have to have these deep
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: conversations or get your feelings hurt, that we're just true
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: to it. His accountability for everything is just there's there's
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: nothing like it. And I credit that to his parents.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: His parents are just such amazing people and the way
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: that they had raised him to hold you know, because
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: he screwed up a lot as a kid. I told him,
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: if we were hanging out when were younger, we got
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: a lot of trouble because you remind me of myself
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: super hyper like like making super bad decisions, but getting punished,
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: getting grounded, getting not being able to go out late
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: at night like strict parents, and that being able to
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: understand that there is rules in life and you have
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: to be accountable if you screw up you got to
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: deal with the punishment, and that is it comes from
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: your parents, and.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: My parents being such good people. So my mindset, as
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: always since I was a kid, I have looked up
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: So the reason I take comments online and I read them,
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: I've always looked up and given every single person I've
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: ever interacted with the benefit of doubt of being good
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: and whether it's what they're saying, what they're doing, their actions,
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: everybody's been my role model. I've never never looked at
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: myself as a role model. I've always looked at whether
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: no matter what, I even strangers like I trust that
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: they're gonna that they're good. And that's where I start
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: my That's where I start everywhere from. And so reading
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: comments online, like I I truly take into account what
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: what I'm reading, you know, and I don't know why,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: because I know it doesn't matter a lot of times.
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: A lot of these probably fucking thirteen fourteen year old kids,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: but I in my mind they are fifty year old,
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: you know, men with experience, And I just try to
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: use as much and as much of the readily available information, comments, words,
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: action as I can from a place of like I
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: feel like a child in a sense when it comes
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: to like interacting with people. And I don't know, I
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: don't know why that's how I take it or that's
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: how I do it, but it makes everything, you know,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: a little bit better. And I'm not as disappointed as
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: much because like, once I learn that they're not that
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: or they're not good and they can't help me, then
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: I don't be like, oh, that's a bad person. I'm
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: just like, Okay, I'm not gonna have that experience again.
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: Well, that's a good perspective. It sounds like you use
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: it then, and that's everyone's different. And if you can
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: handle it and you don't get mentally ill from reading comments,
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: that's a rare You're a rare person.
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: We had many conversations.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: That's what I went to school for human service. I
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: love to help people. You have no idea how much
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: joy it brings me to assist people, to make people's
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: life better, to live someone's spirit. I mean those that
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: is what makes me feel alive, and that comes through
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: my faith and through my parents. You know, my parents
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: are such good people. They deserve so much more than
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: most parents because of their actions and their example that
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: they show for me. And yeah, I'm just so grateful
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: to be the person that I am, because you know,
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: it makes life easier. Life is easy. Life is so
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: easy when you're not concerned about what people think, when
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: you're not worried about things that you can't control.
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: What's also easy if you're a good person.
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: Way.
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: But I couldn't be a good person without the example
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: of my parents. You have no idea how good and
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: naive my parents are. And when I say naive, it's
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: in such a good way because they haven't done the
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: bad things that most of us have done. And I
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: and I failed him. And the last time I ever
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: did drugs, I woke up in an ambulance and I'm
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: pretty sure I died. And I was like, I will
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: never fucking do that again. My parents do not deserve that.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: And that was probably twenty sixteen.
- 1:57:21Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: And I was like, I will never touch that again ever.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: My parents do not deserve that. And that was That's
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: why I'm here.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: So good for you, dude, that's awesome, and it's great
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: that you have such an awesome relationship with your parents.
- 1:57:35Speaker 2: And it really does seem like that attitude that you
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: have is very freeing in a lot of ways.
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: It is. It really is yeah, golf.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: Weed, Trevor, let's talk about those gloves. What the fuck
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: do we have to do to get your gloves into
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: the UFC. It doesn't make any sense that we're using
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: inferior gloves.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: I want, obviously, I want to talk about this. But
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: the gloves I fought in this week were different. They
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: are they felt there. It was there was the same
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: same glove. The leather was different. It was a little
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: bit thicker, I think, and so it was softer. And
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: so every time I've ever fought, I've had the most
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: excruciating pain in between my hands right here, and I
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: didn't feel that at all this fight.
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: So it's like, if you have like a thinner material
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: going through, it's going to cut through this king a
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: little easier.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: So tighter material. This was looser because it was thicker.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: It was weird.
- 1:58:31Speaker 2: So it was better.
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: Better, better for that feeling, that better for comfortability.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Like you have no idea how uncomfortable we are
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: when we.
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: Were always like pulling on the glove of the poll
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: the back. It's not getting a hand wrapped too tight
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: and you get those little things pulling on the tongue
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: here is harder.
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: But this guy's a genius. He can fucking make anything.
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: So Hunter reached out to me three weeks ago, four
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: weeks ago and said he wanted to ignite conversation again.
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: So we'll see where that goes. But uh, you know,
- 1:58:59Speaker 3: from first position that we were in a lot of
- 1:59:02Speaker 3: things happened, and a great thing I always told you
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: it was going to be timing. Timing's everything, and they
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: did the right thing and tried to make what we
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: had spoke about. You know, we had MDA and we
- 1:59:13Speaker 3: had a five year and they moved it to a
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: two year. Took a lot of great notes, and I'm
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: very grateful to be a part of those because they
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: did go out there and use a lot of the
- 1:59:20Speaker 3: ideas that I had, but they just couldn't do it
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: to the level that I could do it. And I
- 1:59:26Speaker 3: thought it was super cool that they were trying because
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: it was a problem that they don't really see and understand.
- 1:59:31Speaker 3: So I think they're in the right mindset. And you know,
- 1:59:34Speaker 3: them helping the athletes, I thought was a great, great
- 1:59:36Speaker 3: thing to do. But during that time when I was
- 1:59:40Speaker 3: going to talk to I actually brought the gloves and
- 1:59:41Speaker 3: it was when you were fighting on three hundred. We
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: were out there and I had a new patent that
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: I had been working on, so we could go opposite
- 1:59:49Speaker 3: direction if they wann't own it. It's a separate pattern
- 1:59:52Speaker 3: from the patent that I had that goes in all
- 1:59:53Speaker 3: of our products, the internal strapping. This was a new patent,
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: still with internal strapping, but a more dialed in for
- 1:59:59Speaker 3: it glove. And then we had those two options. And
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: then when we got there that Allie had told me
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: that they're releasing a new glove, and so we have,
- 2:00:08Speaker 3: you know, two versions now, which is super cool and yeah,
- 2:00:12Speaker 3: I think it'll be great.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: Here's the conversation, though, what are you trying to fix?
- 2:00:18Speaker 3: I pokes?
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: Okay, ikes, that is not possible.
- 2:00:22Speaker 2: You don't think it's possible to make less Ie pokes.
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: You can make less, you make less, but you'll never stop.
- 2:00:27Speaker 2: Stop. Well, of course you're not going to stop, because
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: the fingers are Your issue is the athlete.
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: The issue is the comfortability of the athlete and the
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: performance of the athlete. That is where your ambition has
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: to lie when it comes to making the glove better.
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: Because the thing, the gloves we're fighting it now are
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: fucking terrible. You have noid. They it's hard to make
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: a fist. You have to use your entire muscle of
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: your arm to make a fist, and so by the
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: time we get to the fight, this is already your
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: forming exhausted, exhausted, and then the pressure in between your
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: fingers is like something you can't replicate.
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, do you think it's possible
- 2:01:10Speaker 2: to make something that's like a mitten, something that covers
- 2:01:13Speaker 2: over the tips of the fingers. You would have fucking
- 2:01:16Speaker 2: eighty percent less eyepokes.
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: I do think you could do that in time. I
- 2:01:20Speaker 3: don't think that's that it change is hard for everybody.
- 2:01:23Speaker 3: That's a huge change for grapplers and things like that.
- 2:01:26Speaker 3: But you're a grappler, so you're grappler. Most people are
- 2:01:30Speaker 3: going to say, well, that's going to affect this or
- 2:01:32Speaker 3: my certain locker. Try it, But again it's it's it.
- 2:01:36Speaker 2: Would enhance it. The problem would be like reird naked chokes,
- 2:01:40Speaker 2: like getting the ham behind that you have more thickness.
- 2:01:42Speaker 2: Like it's regular gloves are a problem already, But is
- 2:01:44Speaker 2: it more of a problem just have the fingers covered
- 2:01:47Speaker 2: with the regular glove. I think it's the same. It
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: might actually it might actually even slip in better. But
- 2:01:52Speaker 2: the thing is, it's like covering the tips with like
- 2:01:55Speaker 2: a mitten, like those old school everlast bag gloves.
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: I just I think it's a different sport now.
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: But why you can still clinch, You can do everything,
- 2:02:02Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about.
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: You can still is telling me so much right now,
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: Like and if you take that from me, yeah, right,
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: Like that is a that's a huge factor. And when
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: it comes to intuitive abilities.
- 2:02:15Speaker 2: Okay, like explain that to me, Like what are you
- 2:02:17Speaker 2: feeling with your fingertips that you think would be missing.
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: Well, it's not the fingertips when you gets my hand,
- 2:02:24Speaker 1: like he moves away, he moves in any direction, like
- 2:02:27Speaker 1: I can make that reath. Now he's father, Now he's there, right,
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: And I think if you're gonna take touch away from us,
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: that would deter our intuitive abilities.
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: I wonder, I wonder how much.
- 2:02:39Speaker 3: But also you have.
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: To understand where as a fighter. For me, it's like
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: when I am relaxed, when I'm relaxed, and if my
- 2:02:48Speaker 1: hand can be in this position when I'm relaxed, then
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: I'm okay. Then then then there's not gonna be as
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: many eye pokes. But when I relax and it goes
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: like this, right, like and now I have to force
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: your hand. Now I have to do this. I'm naturally
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: you're never going to take the human reaction and instinct
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: a way to protect yourself. And the instinct to protect
- 2:03:06Speaker 1: yourself is no, that is the instinct. It's natural, it's intuitive,
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: and it has to be that because you're trying to
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: get your your chin tucked behind your shoulders so that
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: you don't get hit. But the uncomfortability and like the
- 2:03:23Speaker 1: strenuous effort it takes to make a fist is fucking stupid.
- 2:03:29Speaker 2: That's stupid. And this is the difference between your gloves
- 2:03:31Speaker 2: and the current UFC gloves.
- 2:03:32Speaker 3: My gloves, My gloves are one of those things that
- 2:03:36Speaker 3: promotes a natural hand, natural position, a better grip, a
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: better fist position where I'm not when I squeeze my
- 2:03:43Speaker 3: fist and I have the wrap on, it doesn't pull
- 2:03:44Speaker 3: my hand up like this. And when you see guys
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: touch gloves, they're usually like this, uh huh, not like
- 2:03:50Speaker 3: this right, and it's lighting the bones up for you know. Again.
- 2:03:53Speaker 3: They they said that the last gloves were causing less knockouts,
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: our gloves were could cause more knockouts because a better
- 2:03:58Speaker 3: hand position, better grip strength on being able to have holes,
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: like if I'm holding someone's for your hands, less broken
- 2:04:04Speaker 3: hands and internal strapping like that is a huge thing.
- 2:04:07Speaker 3: Like my goal at a certain point would to have
- 2:04:10Speaker 3: where you can't have hand wraps on. Like if you
- 2:04:12Speaker 3: have a glove that's actually protecting your hand, but you
- 2:04:15Speaker 3: have the gloves on that now it's equal one because
- 2:04:19Speaker 3: if you've got one person that adds more more padding
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: or less padding, double layer's tape, Like there's many different
- 2:04:25Speaker 3: things that you can do, and that to me, it's
- 2:04:28Speaker 3: like if if I if one fighter has tape wrapping
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: their hands and then the other one has house wrapping
- 2:04:33Speaker 3: their hands, they're wrapping differently, which one's better for breaks,
- 2:04:36Speaker 3: which one's better for punching, Like, so having that that's
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: would be really cool. And that's that's the difference with
- 2:04:42Speaker 3: like like our gloves, I've.
- 2:04:44Speaker 1: Never broke my hand, when he's ever taped my hands,
- 2:04:47Speaker 1: Like his tape job is. I can't wait to show
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: it off to the commission. Every single time I'm like,
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: look at that, tell me you've seen a better one
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: than that tonight. And every time you're like, I don't
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: think so.
- 2:05:00Speaker 2: You got gloves. Of course you did, of course you did.
- 2:05:05Speaker 2: They're my favorite by far, and the ladies and gentlemen
- 2:05:08Speaker 2: at home. If you're just listening, the difference between Trevor's
- 2:05:11Speaker 2: gloves and everybody else's gloves. One of the big differences
- 2:05:14Speaker 2: is that you can see if you're looking at it
- 2:05:16Speaker 2: on that let's see how the curve folks like the
- 2:05:18Speaker 2: regular gloves from the UFC are not. They're straight just
- 2:05:21Speaker 2: like this. So these gloves promote a natural punching position. Look,
- 2:05:26Speaker 2: without even putting them on, they're already in that position.
- 2:05:28Speaker 2: And then when you put them on, they're damn near perfect.
- 2:05:31Speaker 2: The padding is amazing, they're fantastic. They hit the bag
- 2:05:34Speaker 2: with they're just fucking awesome. And they and more importantly,
- 2:05:39Speaker 2: look what they promote. My hand is totally dead, relaxed,
- 2:05:42Speaker 2: and it promotes a closed fist position.
- 2:05:46Speaker 3: I was talking about.
- 2:05:47Speaker 2: So this is a he's doing the internal strapping right
- 2:05:49Speaker 2: now from over here.
- 2:05:51Speaker 3: So that's going to pull this. As you notice, we
- 2:05:53Speaker 3: got pat on the side, so there's no like all
- 2:05:55Speaker 3: the other gloves depending right right right coming down on
- 2:05:58Speaker 3: a single knuckle, and this strap is going to oh yeah,
- 2:06:04Speaker 3: this one.
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: Oh so these are better than the last ones you
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: brought here. Oh, this is fucking fantastic.
- 2:06:10Speaker 3: In finding the right product.
- 2:06:12Speaker 2: Oh my god, you don't even need hand wraps. Well
- 2:06:14Speaker 2: you told me before that when you hit the bag
- 2:06:16Speaker 2: with his gloves, his bag gloves I haven't used.
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: I haven't grabbed my hands since twenty fifteen.
- 2:06:20Speaker 2: Piper doesn't fight with hand wraps on, which is crazy.
- 2:06:24Speaker 3: And it can get to the point if we have
- 2:06:25Speaker 3: the right protection. It's awesome.
- 2:06:28Speaker 2: This is so superior to the UFC gloves. I mean,
- 2:06:31Speaker 2: the fact that this isn't being used by the UFC
- 2:06:34Speaker 2: right now is fucking.
- 2:06:35Speaker 3: We're going to get it done.
- 2:06:36Speaker 2: I hope you don't try it so hard.
- 2:06:38Speaker 3: I stepped away from like the business part. I'm the
- 2:06:41Speaker 3: visionary now, so I got right people that know how
- 2:06:43Speaker 3: to make deals so good. It's right, and the UFC
- 2:06:45Speaker 3: is going to be happy.
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: We were ready.
- 2:06:47Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, they're like, dude, you know, I don't know
- 2:06:50Speaker 3: that was me vers could be responsibility.
- 2:06:53Speaker 2: Oh I believe it that.
- 2:06:54Speaker 3: I didn't know that you could do deals all these
- 2:06:56Speaker 3: different ways. You know, they'd say what they wanted to do.
- 2:06:58Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, that's not.
- 2:06:59Speaker 2: How feel so good.
- 2:07:01Speaker 3: It's so better.
- 2:07:02Speaker 2: It's just much better.
- 2:07:03Speaker 3: It's like you put it into something.
- 2:07:06Speaker 1: Well.
- 2:07:07Speaker 2: This is one of the things that I love about
- 2:07:08Speaker 2: you is that you're so fucking creative with stuff and
- 2:07:11Speaker 2: you're You're constantly trying every single.
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: Piece of equipment. I have trained with the last.
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: These we see so many your training bag.
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's what I trained.
- 2:07:22Speaker 2: Nice.
- 2:07:23Speaker 1: I hit pads in that. Never never wore hand wraps once.
- 2:07:27Speaker 3: Fantastic. Yeah, open your hand to go straight out and
- 2:07:33Speaker 3: then the pointer knuckle protecting that pointer knuckle is so big.
- 2:07:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's it right. Yeah, Oh, it's so nice
- 2:07:45Speaker 2: that you still grip, right, you can still grip. But
- 2:07:48Speaker 2: your biggest hard to chokes and the.
- 2:07:51Speaker 3: And the door knocking knuckles. This is what you.
- 2:07:54Speaker 4: Do.
- 2:07:55Speaker 2: You got but still it's those are your fantastic thank you.
- 2:08:00Speaker 3: And then I got you another pair of X factors too,
- 2:08:02Speaker 3: because you got big hands. And I remember I gave
- 2:08:05Speaker 3: you the sixties. You're like, bro, things they gotta work
- 2:08:07Speaker 3: for me.
- 2:08:08Speaker 2: Yeah, got big hands for a little dude, unusual.
- 2:08:11Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll get it done. But I mean, anytime you
- 2:08:15Speaker 3: want to.
- 2:08:15Speaker 2: I'm so happy. I'm so happy gonna get it done
- 2:08:17Speaker 2: because I pushed for it so many times. I brought
- 2:08:19Speaker 2: it up to Dan, and I brought up to everybody.
- 2:08:20Speaker 2: I was like, listen, what the fuck are we doing?
- 2:08:23Speaker 2: You guys spend a million billion dollars trying to make
- 2:08:25Speaker 2: these new gloves. You got rid of them in three months.
- 2:08:27Speaker 1: That's because this could sound bad. That's because they've never
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: thought about the fighter.
- 2:08:35Speaker 3: But they did. They tried. They tried to make me.
- 2:08:37Speaker 2: They tried, they tried, they tried.
- 2:08:39Speaker 3: They didn't fucking t they did do they you know
- 2:08:41Speaker 3: how much money. I'm not going to tell you how
- 2:08:42Speaker 3: much money they did to do what to.
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: Give me the same exact fucking product.
- 2:08:49Speaker 2: People don't know what change they're doing.
- 2:08:51Speaker 3: I heared a company that works on food they change
- 2:08:53Speaker 3: in their gloves, but they don't know they they took
- 2:08:56Speaker 3: the ideas. At least they tried. They did.
- 2:08:58Speaker 2: I will give them try. But I remember seeing the
- 2:09:01Speaker 2: gloves when they try and going, these suck. These are
- 2:09:04Speaker 2: not as good. I'm right away.
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: I was still uncomfortable, said.
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: To him right away, why don't you just get Trevor schools.
- 2:09:09Speaker 2: What the fuck are we doing here? No? These are good,
- 2:09:11Speaker 2: These are good get.
- 2:09:12Speaker 1: The fuck.
- 2:09:14Speaker 2: The best gloves exist, they already made. Like there's only
- 2:09:17Speaker 2: a few people out there that are willing to like
- 2:09:19Speaker 2: really get creative and redesign and engineer gloves. And then
- 2:09:25Speaker 2: when someone does it to the extent that you've done it,
- 2:09:27Speaker 2: like God, so.
- 2:09:28Speaker 3: Joe, when you think about that, that's that's where I
- 2:09:31Speaker 3: think I fit in well with this because I want
- 2:09:33Speaker 3: to evolve with the company, and if we change one thing,
- 2:09:36Speaker 3: like my first thing I want to do is help
- 2:09:38Speaker 3: a performance. I don't want someone to hurt their hand
- 2:09:40Speaker 3: where all of a sudden, I hurt my hand on the
- 2:09:41Speaker 3: top of your head and I'm just left handed now,
- 2:09:43Speaker 3: and everybody just you know, there's no pay per view now,
- 2:09:46Speaker 3: but I pay to watch these fights, and now the
- 2:09:48Speaker 3: guy that I wanted to see fight can't continue because
- 2:09:51Speaker 3: he hurt his hand. Right, So we fix that problem,
- 2:09:53Speaker 3: we fix longer, better grip strength for the grapplers who
- 2:09:56Speaker 3: are gonna need to have risk control when throwing shots.
- 2:09:58Speaker 3: I want to help athletes perform, and as we go,
- 2:10:01Speaker 3: let's slowly develop and test with the athletes and find
- 2:10:04Speaker 3: out what because it's about the athlete, it's what works
- 2:10:06Speaker 3: for them. And when we can get gloves on people
- 2:10:08Speaker 3: and try something like you were talking about. That will
- 2:10:11Speaker 3: take time. You have to train in and go, oh,
- 2:10:12Speaker 3: I actually like this better. And there's the pros and cons.
- 2:10:14Speaker 3: There's pros and cons everything, So it would take time.
- 2:10:18Speaker 3: And that's where where I'm passionate about is let's find
- 2:10:21Speaker 3: a problem and let me think through solving it.
- 2:10:23Speaker 2: But I need to know what that you are here,
- 2:10:25Speaker 2: and we send anybody to your website. It's is it
- 2:10:27Speaker 2: on x O n X sports on exports dot com.
- 2:10:31Speaker 2: A lot of people gloves the best shin pads. Thank you,
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: you have the best equipment. It's fucking phenomenal. There it
- 2:10:38Speaker 2: is right there. That's the website on exports. It's fucking
- 2:10:42Speaker 2: fantastic stuff. I mean, it's really obvious that it's a
- 2:10:44Speaker 2: high level coach who's developed all this ship. I mean,
- 2:10:47Speaker 2: everything you make is top of the food.
- 2:10:49Speaker 1: Best tester in the world. The harder I fucking break everything.
- 2:10:54Speaker 2: I'm sure, and I can't. I cannot.
- 2:10:56Speaker 1: I cannot break these gloves. I cannot break these Thus
- 2:10:59Speaker 1: I have to switch every like six months because I
- 2:11:02Speaker 1: wear the foam out so much. So I don't ever
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: want to hurt.
- 2:11:04Speaker 3: Mind, But you've got two or three sessions of training
- 2:11:06Speaker 3: every day. Like that's for a typical person. These gloves
- 2:11:09Speaker 3: are gonna last well over. Corey had his shine guards
- 2:11:12Speaker 3: for four years.
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: I had my shirt guards for like three years.
- 2:11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and when you think about the amount of damage
- 2:11:18Speaker 2: that that three years entails, that's pretty incredible form. Yeah,
- 2:11:23Speaker 2: you soaked with sweat, everything's getting broken down and moisturized
- 2:11:29Speaker 2: and then trying out again.
- 2:11:30Speaker 3: Crap, Hey, that's our bags that were up there. Dude.

- 2:15:21Speaker 2: be North American cheetahs, and so North America. This is
- 2:15:24Speaker 2: all before the Younger Driest impact. So it's like when
- 2:15:29Speaker 2: somewhere around eleven eight hundred years ago, sixty five percent
- 2:15:32Speaker 2: of all North American mammals went extinct. And there was
- 2:15:35Speaker 2: American lion that was bigger than the African lion, and
- 2:15:38Speaker 2: then there was a cheetah, and these fuckers, these guys
- 2:15:41Speaker 2: evolved to get away from cheetahs so they can run
