Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / A Prayer of Aspiration, Consecration and Peaceful Receptivity to the Divine Impulsion in Life
Transcript
- 0:01As long as we focus on outer circumstances and involve
- 0:04ourselves in them, we are participating in what some have
- 0:08called the illusory life of the world.
- 0:12The world is not illusory in an ultimate sense, since it is a
- 0:16manifestation of the divine consciousness, but it is
- 0:20illusory in the sense that achievement of specific societal
- 0:24goals or objectives is an end in itself.
- 0:29The more we are fixated on these external actions and their
- 0:32fruits, the less we are able to aspire.
- 0:36Shift the focus toward the divine and be receptive to the
- 0:40divine impulsion that has its own intention in the
- 0:43manifestation in general and in the individual role in
- 0:47particular. Once an individual is able to
- 0:51shift the standpoint to the psychic being, it is able to
- 0:55focus upon the higher vibratory pattern of the divine
- 0:58consciousness, and all external worldly events take on a lesser
- 1:03significance. They represent at that point the
- 1:07residue of past actions, both individual and within.
- 1:12The setting and time within which the individual lives in
- 1:15acts and the facts they present are the result of those past
- 1:20impulsions. The individual then has choices
- 1:24before him, but none of them need destroy the foundation of
- 1:28peace that the spiritual seeker is cultivating.
- 1:31He can either disregard them entirely and focus fully on
- 1:35spiritual aspiration, or he can try to address the circumstances
- 1:41with his ego, personality and the tools he has at his disposal
- 1:45in his mind. Vital and physical being.
- 1:48Or he can call upon the Divine to guide and lead him to an
- 1:52appropriate line of action in regard to what is occurring.
- 1:58To the extent that he can maintain peace and receptivity,
- 2:02he has a better opportunity to tune himself to the larger
- 2:05Divine manifestation and its action, and thereby both
- 2:10understand his role in the process and the best means he
- 2:15can adopt to accomplish that function.
- 2:19The Mother's prayer embodies the aspiration to become a true
- 2:22servitor of that higher truth and become a true doer of divine
- 2:27works. She embodies aspiration,
- 2:31consecration, peace, and receptivity.
- 2:35In the prayer she expresses here, the Mother writes Quote, O
- 2:43Lord, my one aspiration is to know Thee and serve Thee better
- 2:48every day. What do outer circumstances
- 2:51matter? They seem to me each day more
- 2:56vain and illusory, and I take less and less interest in what
- 3:00is going to happen to us in the outer life.
- 3:04But more and more am I intensely interested in the one thing
- 3:08which seems important to me, to know the better in order to
- 3:13serve the better. All outer events must converge
- 3:17upon this goal and this goal alone, and for that all depends
- 3:24upon the attitude we have towards them.
- 3:27To seek Thee constantly in all things, to want to manifest Thee
- 3:32ever better in every circumstance.
- 3:34In this attitude lies supreme peace, perfect serenity, true
- 3:41contentment. In it, life blossoms, widens,
- 3:46expands so magnificently in such majestic waves that no storm can
- 3:53any longer disturb it. O Lord, Thou art our safeguard,
- 4:00our only happiness. Thou art our resplendent light,
- 4:05our pure love, our hope and our strength.
- 4:10Thou art our life, the reality of our being.
- 4:16In a reverent and joyful adoration.
- 4:19I bow to thee. End Quote.
