- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm Dan from Excaliba. We've got a new single coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: out on Friday, the fifth September, and we're pumped and
- 0:25Speaker 1: looking forward to it.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Fantasty Daniel, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Brother, Thanks for having me.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Chris my pleasure. So, as you say, Excalibur premiere your
- 0:34Speaker 2: new single Gravity this Friday. So how you feel about it? Oh?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Man, We're pretty stoked. Yeah, we're just looking forward to
- 0:41Speaker 1: getting it out. Did a lot of hard work on
- 0:43Speaker 1: these tracks, so to have this one off the rank first,
- 0:46Speaker 1: I guess it's pretty exciting.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah. So can you dive into the song a bit
- 0:51Speaker 2: deeper for us from a musical point of view and
- 0:52Speaker 2: what you're going for with it?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's got a mixture of sounds with
- 0:57Speaker 1: this one Brandon Fraser mixed, so you know, we've got
- 1:02Speaker 1: that electronica in the background, that real sort of I
- 1:05Speaker 1: hate the stereotype, you know songs but Lincoln Park sort
- 1:09Speaker 1: of sounding where they rap with the big melodies. We've
- 1:13Speaker 1: got that aggression, but we still keep that excale of
- 1:15Speaker 1: a sound within it. So it's really important.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the song actually about? Like, Gravity could be
- 1:20Speaker 2: any one of a number of things.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good question. It's whatever anyone interprets to be.
- 1:26Speaker 1: But for us, I think gravity is you know the
- 1:30Speaker 1: world's changing at the moment. Things really get you down,
- 1:33Speaker 1: So it's about dusting yourself off and you know, rising
- 1:36Speaker 1: above it pretty much, not letting anything hold you down.
- 1:40Speaker 1: So not even gravity can can force you down. So
- 1:43Speaker 1: it's you know, keeping that strength up. And the world's
- 1:48Speaker 1: a weird place at the moment. So yeah, just that
- 1:51Speaker 1: encouragement sort of song, that that power.
- 1:54Speaker 2: That's the understatement of the year, mate saying the world's
- 1:56Speaker 2: a strange place at the moment. So the song's coming
- 2:02Speaker 2: out with a music video, So how did this watch
- 2:04Speaker 2: in the video tie in with the narrative of the song.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that was fun. I mean we you know, it's
- 2:11Speaker 1: reversing water getting thrown and you know, pushing things back
- 2:14Speaker 1: out to the universe. They had me on a harness,
- 2:17Speaker 1: so I was We recorded it and we filmed that.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Danny Nolan filmed it for us, and we filmed it
- 2:25Speaker 1: in a big old warehouse. I was in a harness
- 2:28Speaker 1: and they it sort of lifted me up and yeah,
- 2:30Speaker 1: it's nearly lost my breath and passed out, but you've
- 2:33Speaker 1: got to be careful. He had some fun with that.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So it's it's it really relates to the song.
- 2:40Speaker 2: You're not scared of height, say I am, actually, but.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Luckily I wasn't that that high up.
- 2:46Speaker 2: But it was fun the two feet off the ground, mate,
- 2:50Speaker 2: And I'm starting to get nervous.
- 2:52Speaker 1: The ball goes on the roof that stays there.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Christ On, my kids out all the time. You've got
- 2:59Speaker 2: a couple of up and coming guest artists on the
- 3:01Speaker 2: song's role made with a guy called DJ Lethal from
- 3:03Speaker 2: olymp Biscuit Programming and Marcos Peril from PO d On Guitars.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Like what that? How did that come about? Yeah?
- 3:11Speaker 1: We we just got introduced to those guys, Brandon Fraser
- 3:15Speaker 1: who recorded the track down there in La We headed
- 3:19Speaker 1: over and you know, we sort of got mingling and
- 3:22Speaker 1: they were keen to be to collaborate with us. Marcos
- 3:26Speaker 1: has always been a great guitarist, great band pods some
- 3:31Speaker 1: massive songs, and then we needed a programmer where djj
- 3:36Speaker 1: Ethal came on board and you know, you know this
- 3:38Speaker 1: stuff and we had learning from these guys in the
- 3:41Speaker 1: studio were just was amazing. Chris, you know, just just
- 3:45Speaker 1: was daunting even I thought it was a joke when
- 3:47Speaker 1: they first said, yeah, they're going to come in the
- 3:48Speaker 1: studio and you know they're going to work with you
- 3:50Speaker 1: guys when we know it was just daunting and being there,
- 3:53Speaker 1: but learning from them and the way they go about
- 3:56Speaker 1: it in the studio, it was amazing. It was an opportunity.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and running through what each of them contributed to song.
- 4:04Speaker 2: So we'll start with DJ Lethal.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Uh Lethal did all the programming, all the keys, all
- 4:10Speaker 1: the electronic sort of stuff in the background. Mark Is
- 4:14Speaker 1: did all the guitars. So yeah, he's just a way
- 4:18Speaker 1: he goes about doing his tracks with his guitars. It's
- 4:23Speaker 1: he's got that unique sound. You know, he's got that
- 4:25Speaker 1: custom signature sound. We recorded it at Matt Zoroms from
- 4:29Speaker 1: from Guns N' Roses, So that was, you know, being
- 4:32Speaker 1: in his garage and and meeting Matt and you know
- 4:36Speaker 1: when we remember we're trying to we're tracking the drums
- 4:40Speaker 1: and we're trying to get this really cool snare sound
- 4:43Speaker 1: and he pulled this snare down. Why don't you try
- 4:44Speaker 1: this one? And I use this at Wembley and I'm like, nah, man,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you keep put that back on the shelf and but yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 1: at moments like that you look back and you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: hearing their stories and yeah, it was great.
- 4:58Speaker 2: What was the process for something like that? Guys are
- 5:00Speaker 2: pretty big and what they do. So do you just
- 5:02Speaker 2: let them have free range and they write whatever they
- 5:04Speaker 2: want for the song or are you still ask him
- 5:05Speaker 2: to go to a specific style?
- 5:08Speaker 1: No? I think with the writing process, lethal does his
- 5:12Speaker 1: thing like he knows what he's doing when I'm not
- 5:14Speaker 1: really you know, privy to that, that electronic program sort
- 5:19Speaker 1: of thing that he does, but it just makes a
- 5:21Speaker 1: song bigger, It gives it that that cinema sort of
- 5:25Speaker 1: sort of just brings you on that roller coaster. With Marcos,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, we sat down and we bounced ideas together.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So you know he's he's all open for that and
- 5:36Speaker 1: his ideas are great. You know. So as I said,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I just learned so much from these guys.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Agrest you did, and like you mentioned those two an
- 5:43Speaker 2: Matt Sarrem like, did I did I give you any
- 5:46Speaker 2: advice or gott and sorry there? Or do they wait
- 5:47Speaker 2: for you to ask him? Did I offer it? Like?
- 5:49Speaker 2: It's what sort of.
- 5:50Speaker 1: People, Chris, It's so easy, It just flowed, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: It wasn't It wasn't uncomfortable. Everyone was just sort of creating.
- 5:57Speaker 1: The juices were flowing, Everyone was strolling ideas out and
- 6:00Speaker 1: it was it was a really good environment to be
- 6:02Speaker 1: So they were really cool dudes, And it wasn't like,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know, do this through that. Yeah, it was everyone's
- 6:08Speaker 1: had input, so it was it was really cool.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and Gravity has taken from your debut album X,
- 6:13Speaker 2: which comes out on January the thirties. So what choose
- 6:16Speaker 2: that song to represent the album? I guess Bobby and
- 6:18Speaker 2: the lead song.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We just thought it was the right one. I guess
- 6:23Speaker 1: to have these guys featured on it too, which was,
- 6:26Speaker 1: you know, it was a big bonus to throw that
- 6:29Speaker 1: out and and to have it's a big malady. It's
- 6:34Speaker 1: got the rap, it's got everything that you know we
- 6:36Speaker 1: signature with an EXCaliber. But we've got other songs coming
- 6:40Speaker 1: out that you know, heavy, that a brutal, that a soft,
- 6:43Speaker 1: that a crossover that are you know, so I think
- 6:46Speaker 1: this one just incorporates it all. But yeah, we're pumped
- 6:51Speaker 1: to get these songs out and see see what it
- 6:54Speaker 1: does out there.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So running through X a bit deep on a musical level,
- 6:58Speaker 2: then may like, what are youse going for with this
- 7:00Speaker 2: any debut album?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Just diversity. With this album, we want to show that
- 7:07Speaker 1: we can, you know, we can do all aspects of everything,
- 7:10Speaker 1: not just one. And I guess a lot of albums
- 7:13Speaker 1: are doing that at the moment. You know, you've got
- 7:15Speaker 1: bands like Falling Reverse doing country songs. You know. It's
- 7:19Speaker 1: so I think just for us to tap into that
- 7:22Speaker 1: and show, you know, we've got diversity is really important.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and so Gravity isn't actually a representation of the
- 7:30Speaker 2: album as whole sonically, is it's just a small piece
- 7:33Speaker 2: of what do we expect?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, it's Look, it's a great song, but
- 7:38Speaker 1: I think all the songs on the album are fantastic
- 7:41Speaker 1: so and they're all different in their own way. So
- 7:44Speaker 1: the next one coming out, I'm not sure if I
- 7:47Speaker 1: can reveal that yet, but that's it's heavier again, it's brutal,
- 7:51Speaker 1: it's it's it's completely different. So yeah, Gravity is it's
- 7:57Speaker 1: it stays with people. It's got that that catch humality,
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's got the rapid first, it's got the electronics, but
- 8:04Speaker 1: it's it's engine it's engineered and recorded perfectly from Brandon too.
- 8:08Speaker 1: So it was it was a good team effort.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, sure. And are there going to be any other
- 8:14Speaker 2: surprise guest artists on the album? Made or of your
- 8:16Speaker 2: brain lid on those two?
- 8:18Speaker 1: Well, these guys featured on another song which is on
- 8:20Speaker 1: the album, which is will be part of the album,
- 8:23Speaker 1: so look out for that one too. Yeah, no other guests,
- 8:26Speaker 1: No other guest artist.
- 8:28Speaker 2: But do you need anyone else?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah? Exactly, that's big enough for us.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, So what's six scali we got planned for
- 8:37Speaker 2: the rest of twenty twenty five?
- 8:38Speaker 1: Moving forward? Mate, album comes out January. We'll book some shows,
- 8:42Speaker 1: we'll do some runs, and we're just pumped. We're pumping
- 8:45Speaker 1: at these songs that get back on the road and
- 8:48Speaker 1: have some fun.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I throw that's right too, Mate, Like a lot of
- 8:52Speaker 2: people sort of wonder this, but you've got that song
- 8:54Speaker 2: gravity with these two big superstars on it. But when
- 8:57Speaker 2: it comes to playing them live, how do you handle
- 8:59Speaker 2: their parts? Like you? Do they get overdubbed? Do they
- 9:02Speaker 2: someone else come and play them?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like Vinnie our guitarist, Mate is legend of the guitar.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You won't. That's different. They've got a very unique style
- 9:11Speaker 1: of both of them, but it blends in perfectly the electronics. Yes,
- 9:14Speaker 1: we don't have a DJ on stage, so we have
- 9:16Speaker 1: backing tracks for that. But yeah we guitars, drums and vocals.
- 9:22Speaker 1: We all we get down pretty pat Chris.
- 9:25Speaker 2: So we've seen it, brother, I can attest to that.
- 9:27Speaker 2: You guys have truck an awesome life.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Thank you, mate, appreciate that.
- 9:31Speaker 2: No way is it all?
- 9:32Speaker 3: Brother?
- 9:32Speaker 2: All right, Well, thanks for your time today, Daniel. The
- 9:34Speaker 2: song Gravity is out Friday, and it is a cracker
- 9:36Speaker 2: pick Hares who's on it. It's a great song anyway,
- 9:38Speaker 2: but it's made even better by having them on it.
- 9:40Speaker 2: But quality appa made look on here and the rest
- 9:42Speaker 2: of the album. Thanks Chris, thanks for having me, mate,
- 9:45Speaker 2: Appreciate you brother, my pleasure.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Let me speak.
- 10:19Speaker 5: It's as forever I'm falling on my knees, lots as
- 10:30Speaker 5: to speed.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah that's my way.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I'm all alone and need to find my way back home.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Trying to feed one slipped inside on script. But I
- 10:38Speaker 6: can't decide out.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You can't see me, own said, I'm dying out, lots
- 10:46Speaker 3: to say, what finding about y'alls till the sun not
- 10:54Speaker 3: even ding if I see the yard, and I said,
- 11:03Speaker 3: now see see it now?
- 11:24Speaker 6: But notions clear up, waiting no seems disappear. There's gotta
- 11:27Speaker 6: be more than I can do. Breaking through the WI,
- 11:36Speaker 6: I said to be HERETI you got a call. This time,
- 11:38Speaker 6: it'll walk long.
- 11:39Speaker 2: I'll meet you up.
- 11:40Speaker 3: But I can't hold on.
- 11:41Speaker 2: And now I feel I got him.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I'll see me here, I said.
- 11:50Speaker 3: It's just say jobs keeping the shout.
