On Thursday the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia rang the President of the United States twice in one day. The first call told him the Houthis were advancing on Mocha. The second asked for American airstrikes. He did not get them. He got intelligence and targeting support, and the two hundred or so American personnel already in the country stayed in their non-combat role.
Nobody in Europe was on either call.
By Friday the Houthis held the whole of Yemen’s Red Sea coast, Mocha included, and most reporting puts them on Perim Island, in the Bab al-Mandeb itself. The same day Saudi Arabia shut down…
