- 0:00You've counted on Inside Maine for over 20 years for smart
- 0:03political talk and real conversations with the state's
- 0:07leaders on 98.5 FM, AM 560 and wgan.com.
- 0:14Thank you, Jeremy, and welcome to INSIDE Maine.
- 0:17I'm your host today, Sean Moody, supported here with Jeremy
- 0:21Mixer. Good morning.
- 0:23As the producer and Tony Randazzo in the in The Newsroom
- 0:28and we have Walter. The weekend Walter has returned.
- 0:32Walter is here, yes. We reconnected.
- 0:34I appreciate that, Tony. Well, thanks everyone and thanks
- 0:38for joining A beautiful day today in Maine.
- 0:41And I, I really have to compliment Governor Mills for
- 0:45that. Heartfelt condolences on behalf
- 0:49of us to honor Josh Tibbets and Andrew Cross.
- 0:53She did, she did a great job. So I'm not going to add to that.
- 0:56She she did a great job. And that is, yeah, I was going
- 0:59to make mention of it. You know, I'm a pilot, but a
- 1:01pilot for, I don't know, since I think 1989 was my first solo
- 1:05flight. And Christine, I actually going
- 1:07to fly to Rangeley after the show and be looking at a lot of
- 1:11a lot of Maine at 3500 feet. So no, it is, it is as Governor
- 1:17Mills said, it is. It could be addictive.
- 1:22You know, the passion of aviation.
- 1:25You just, you know, once you experience it, guess it's like
- 1:29any any hobby or any in Josh's cases, a profession.
- 1:33He made it a profession and pilots have it's kind of a
- 1:36fraternity. I guess we we stick together
- 1:40anyway. If you'd like to join the
- 1:41program 879-9426 we're going to have actually my wife Christy's
- 1:46coming into the studio today at 11 and she's going to update us
- 1:49on the main book all a scholarship foundation.
- 1:51We're rating the thick of presenting scholarships at local
- 1:56and all over the state award ceremonies and graduations.
- 2:00It's pretty exciting that all the work this is this is the the
- 2:04gratification that comes with all the work is doing the actual
- 2:07presentation to see in the the spirit in those young eyes and
- 2:11you know, knowing that somebody supports them and believes in
- 2:14them. That's that's why we do the work
- 2:16and we're going to recognize a lot of the people that have
- 2:18contributed and, you know, donated to to the cause to help
- 2:23it all make it happen. And the board that operates
- 2:26completely volunteer. Not one dime is paid.
- 2:29All goes to the students in the form of scholarships.
- 2:31We're excited to to showcase that at 11 And Kenny Chinkat,
- 2:37who's running for the Senate and Wyndham, I'm not sure the Senate
- 2:41seat number, but he'll be joining us at noontime to talk
- 2:43about his campaign and how he's doing.
- 2:45And he's also the the owner of Eric's Church restaurant there
- 2:49on three O 2 well known establishment business owners.
- 2:54So we'll be listening to to Kenny at a little afternoon.
- 2:59And I would I just want to kind of open this up because WGAN and
- 3:02the FCC were regulated obviously in in campaign time and and
- 3:06being sure that it gets equal time to candidates to spend
- 3:09doesn't depend on the party, whatever.
- 3:12And so I want to open it up. Any candidate out there that's
- 3:15listening or a staffer that will call them and call in, be happy
- 3:19to give you a few minutes to to say where you're running, what
- 3:22you're running for and a little bit about yourself.
- 3:25So call in 879-9426 and we're going to take those calls
- 3:29throughout the program. 879-9426.
- 3:34Yeah, we've got Steve calling from Westbrook.
- 3:36Steve, welcome to Inside Main. Hey Sean, always enjoy it when
- 3:40you're hosting the show. I appreciate that.
- 3:43Yeah, I've got some advice instead of rehashing the old
- 3:46left versus right culture war, you know, which is a run around.
- 3:50A run around that we can't ever resolve.
- 3:53Yeah. They call it an endless argument
- 3:55I think. It's like a dog chasing its own.
- 3:58Yeah, we need to stop Donald Trump's disastrous policy that
- 4:03hyperinflation due to oil shortages is OK, and that mass
- 4:08starvation due to 50% fertilizer shortages is OK.
- 4:13If Trump can stop Iran from having a nuclear weapon that it
- 4:18could never ever use and it could never ever use it because
- 4:22it faces 5200 American nuclear weapons, if Iran launched even 1
- 4:30ballistic missile, Sean, at the US, you know, whether nuclear or
- 4:35not, Iran will be vaporized in about 18 minutes.
- 4:39So this phony weapons of mass destruction lie is a mega, mega
- 4:46version of the boy who's been caught, caught crying wolf over
- 4:51and over again. But in this case, it's war for
- 4:54profit billionaires crying up a non existent threat to pay for
- 5:00their 300 foot yachts and their and their six vacation mansions.
- 5:04You know, at the bottom of this foreign policy fraud that we're
- 5:08in right now and it's a disaster in terms of inflation and and
- 5:12fertilizer shortages. At the bottom of this fraud are
- 5:16two big lies that are even bigger than Trump's 2020 big,
- 5:20big steel lie. 1 is that Trump has been. 1 is that Iran has
- 5:26been attacking us for 47 years, but that's what all the
- 5:30Republicans are saying, while it's America that's been
- 5:33attacking Iran for 72 years since 1953.
- 5:39And 2nd Sean, and that I'm done that Iran poses A strategic
- 5:44threat to the US while it poses 0 strategic threat to us.
- 5:50And if you want to put this as a practical legal, legal case,
- 5:54imagine a man who starts getting paranoid about his neighbor next
- 5:58door that his neighbor, he keeps thinking that his neighbor is
- 6:02going to kill him. So he goes over to the
- 6:04neighbor's house and kills the neighbor and everyone in his
- 6:07family. And then when he goes to court,
- 6:10his defense is, you know, when they asked him, why did you do
- 6:12it? Because.
- 6:14I had to get him for he got me. Yeah, I had to and and and and
- 6:19the judge would say to this poor paranoid, no, that doesn't wash
- 6:23in this court. You you can't, you can't go kill
- 6:25your neighbor because you, you, you, you have, you know, a crazy
- 6:29idea that your neighbor is going to try and kill you.
- 6:32We have a crazy paranoid idea, you know, parroted over and over
- 6:37again in in the media that Iran. I got to take some more calls,
- 6:40but you just, well, I just, I'm going to let you go, but Steve
- 6:46from Westbrook just validated that WGAN Inside Maine is a
- 6:51nonpartisan hotline call in that anybody can call in and Steve
- 6:56just validated that with any of any opinion that they may have
- 7:00and share it with us here. We have a lot of great listeners
- 7:02and a lot of great callers. In fact, we've got Al Cohen from
- 7:06Portland. Al, welcome to Inside Maine.
- 7:09Good morning, John. How are you?
- 7:11I'm. Doing great it was beautiful
- 7:13day. I, I think I mentioned there
- 7:14Christy and I are going to fly up to Rangeley after the show.
- 7:17Our daughter Danielle and her husband Kyle built built in our
- 7:21building a place up there. They got 33 granddaughters that
- 7:24they're going to take up there and so we're excited to go up
- 7:27there and check it out and. That flying must be real cool.
- 7:32I've. Never I've.
- 7:33Never flown in an airplane, period.
- 7:35It's like the last bastion of freedom.
- 7:37You know what I mean? You take off and you can go
- 7:39where you want, outside of controlled airspace.
- 7:41You can go no stop signs. No.
- 7:44No traffic. No.
- 7:45Yeah, you just. It's it's liberating, put it
- 7:49that way. I called about Elliot Kotler
- 7:54being released on bail again. I mean how many times do we
- 8:01release him? You know what I was hoping for
- 8:04after I heard this news yesterday?
- 8:07I wish the feds would charge him.
- 8:11If he was charged federally, maybe the catch and release
- 8:14would stop. Yeah, it's.
- 8:17It's unbelievable. I I watched that this morning.
- 8:20My heart sank and and I think on taught add insult to injury of
- 8:23$10,000 bail. It's like seriously, I mean, I
- 8:26know I know, I know, I know. So I showed you that they talk
- 8:30about, you know, the swamp and the the corruption everything in
- 8:33in the federal level with all these courts and judges and
- 8:36everything else. You can't tell me that they are
- 8:38given this guy such a pass. I, I'm like you, I'm outraged.
- 8:43I really am. I obviously campaign, you know,
- 8:45against Elliott Callaway back in 2010 and got to know him.
- 8:48His wife was a sweetheart, Melanie.
- 8:50I had her on the program. She she was on inside me.
- 8:53She was just a wonderful wife lady, respectful and and classy.
- 8:59And and now he's they showed him in the court saying he's had
- 9:02this, you know, trauma or addiction, whatever you want to
- 9:05call it for, I don't know, 30 or 40 years.
- 9:07I mean, it's scary. It's scary.
- 9:09And to just let him walk out of that courtroom.
- 9:11I just, hell, I don't know. I didn't.
- 9:14I just don't even know how to react.
- 9:16Well, I, I really think that, you know, a lot of you know, a
- 9:20lot of charges you can, you can be charged right or federal if
- 9:26the feds would scoop this up and stop the catch and release God,
- 9:32don't we care anything about our children?
- 9:35I agree with you. And I'm glad to call.
- 9:38It just watching porn and wasn't actually doing the molesting.
- 9:42That doesn't cut it with me. If he wasn't consuming this
- 9:46garbage they wouldn't be doing it.
- 9:48He needs to be locked up and everyone that has any amount of
- 9:54sense knows that. These judges.
- 9:56I think it's disgusting. You have a good day, Sean.
- 9:59Al, thanks for calling. I'm sorry you have such a kind
- 10:01of a, a dark topic that you had to talk about, but I'm glad,
- 10:05glad you got it out there because that is actually exactly
- 10:09what happened. I think this is the fourth
- 10:12probation violation. I mean.
- 10:13I just something like that. The most recent one was at a
- 10:17hotel actually, right around the corner from our studios, I
- 10:20forget which one. Long Main Mall Rd.
- 10:22And that was a police officer saw him and recognized him and
- 10:28saw that he had a bag full of DVD's.
- 10:31And. And he's like, oh, Elliot, how
- 10:35you doing? He's like, oh, oh, good.
- 10:37And instantly he has his bag of DVDs, and he put it behind his
- 10:40back like he was trying to hide it.
- 10:43Now, that honestly was probably one of the worst things he could
- 10:46have done. Yeah.
- 10:49And obviously the DVDs had things on them that should not
- 10:55have been there, I guess. Jeremy, I, you know, I, I went
- 10:59from where originally that all whole thing broke.
- 11:02I went from really feeling sorry for the family and him and, you
- 11:05know, this whole, that whole thing.
- 11:06But as this is emerged and more information has become
- 11:10available, I couldn't agree with Al Moore you.
- 11:12Know. Yeah, I mean, I, you know, this
- 11:14is this is not a political statement.
- 11:16He's somebody that is a sick man and he cannot be cured.
- 11:21The predator, you. Know.
- 11:22Predatory and I I completely agree 100% with what Al was
- 11:26saying that no, he's, he's somebody that, you know, he, he
- 11:31needs to spend the rest of his life.
- 11:33You know what little of it is left at his age behind bars.
- 11:39If you want. To and I and I voted for the
- 11:40guy. I I will admit that, and I'm
- 11:42ashamed to say that, but I did. But if I knew what I knew about
- 11:46him, that never would have happened.
- 11:48You would have gotten my vote. Well, this is.
- 11:51This is this is how life is right, Jeremy, It is down the
- 11:55stretch, OK, because I watched and I campaigned with him and
- 11:59and you know, obvious, you got to know all that, you know,
- 12:01Governor Page, Anne Le Page, Melanie Cutler, sure, you know,
- 12:05all the candidates wives, Jim Mitchell, who was married to to
- 12:08Libby Mitchell. So we you know, we I was and
- 12:12Christian and I were were cordial all of them to get to
- 12:14know him. And and then and the longer we
- 12:16ran that, the more I was actually at a debate.
- 12:19I think it was in Bangor, the four of us on the on the
- 12:22platform, they had live debate and Elliott Kotler started.
- 12:26I thought it like a costing Senator Mitchell.
- 12:28I mean, he was, he was really being rude.
- 12:30And I thought and so anyway, it was right at the end and they
- 12:34they, it was a live televised debate.
- 12:36They shut the cameras off. And typically what would happen
- 12:39at that moment in time, you just shake the other candidate's
- 12:41hand, you know, just wrap it up. He got what I thought was right
- 12:46in Senator Mitchell's face, You know, space, I should say, and I
- 12:50saw, you know, I have a pretty high situational way in US
- 12:53being, you know, in business and dealing with people my whole
- 12:56life. I immediately step right between
- 12:58the two. I said, Elliot, it's over.
- 13:00It's over. And he looked at me and he just
- 13:03kind of shut up and he walked off.
- 13:05And by the time he took two steps, Jim Mitchell was coming
- 13:08up the steps of the stage because he was in the audience.
- 13:10He saw what was going on and he was on his way to do it.
- 13:13But I, I, you know, but, but then that was that.
- 13:18I don't know if it was we're, we're within a few, maybe 3
- 13:21weeks of, of the camp of the election, general election.
- 13:25And Elliot set up this meeting or tried to to convince me,
- 13:30right, to get on board with him. And then all you can be
- 13:32Department of Economic Development, whatever, you know,
- 13:35give you a give you a job within.
- 13:38Now, I said to Ellie, I said, Ellie, I have absolutely zero in
- 13:42common with you. OK.
- 13:43I grew up in Gorham, you know, rags, whatever.
- 13:45To Richard, you're living on the ocean.
- 13:49I mean, it's just no, I have 0 in common with you and I don't
- 13:52relate to you. That's why I'm running.
- 13:54But think about that, Jeremy. Think about if I'd have been
- 13:57some spineless whatever and say, oh, yeah, oh, yeah, cool, you're
- 14:00a smart guy. Yeah, I'll get on you.
- 14:02He would have won that election because he only lost by like
- 14:046000 votes. And I got 5%.
- 14:06I got 27,000 votes, you know, So that I think I was always going
- 14:11to get out as a moral and ethical victory in my own mind
- 14:14to say that. Yeah, that wasn't.
- 14:16Going to happen. I'm pretty sure everybody that
- 14:19voted for Elliot Cutler back then, probably if they knew what
- 14:24they knew, would have voted for you and you would have been
- 14:26governor. That is, That is honestly what I
- 14:28believe. Is the truth.
- 14:29Glad he weren't. Well, we'll be right back if
- 14:33you'd like to call in 8799426. For over 2 decades, Inside Maine
- 14:38has been your trusted source for political analysis and candid
- 14:41conversations with Maine's most influential leaders, bringing
- 14:44you the issues that matter most, straight from the experts on
- 14:4898.5 FM, AM 560, and wgan.com. Thank you, Jeremy, and welcome
- 14:54back to Inside Maine. I'm your host today, Sean Moody.
- 14:57I want to thank Phil Harriman, the founder of Inside Maine, for
- 15:01filling in for me on May 6th. We.
- 15:04Hey, you're throwing everybody off here.
- 15:05It's not the it's May 23rd and Sean's on the air.
- 15:10Wait, what? Normally it's a first Saturday
- 15:13for any regular listeners will know that that you're on the 1st
- 15:16Saturday. That's right.
- 15:17We'll be back in back In Sync here in a couple weeks.
- 15:20I'll be back. Yeah.
- 15:21Oh, you'll be back In Sync, and then you'll be off sync again
- 15:24because you're not going to be here Labor Day weekend.
- 15:26I know I want to thank Josh Phillip for for swapping on
- 15:29that. A lot of swapping going on
- 15:31summertime swaps. It happens.
- 15:34But yes, Phil, the founder of Inside Main was gracious enough
- 15:38and he had a shoulder surgery. He probably didn't talk about it
- 15:41on the air, but he he got banged up pretty bad.
- 15:43I did not know that. Yeah, he's, he's recovering from
- 15:45that. It's very, very painful.
- 15:47He had surgery and see, you know, he's he's on the man.
- 15:50But what what for that fellow to go through?
- 15:53Absolutely. If you want to join the program,
- 15:55879-9426 and want to talk about, and I also want to just get that
- 16:01word out there, any candidates, the Democrat, independent,
- 16:05Republican, any candidates that want to call in, feel free.
- 16:08We're going to take calls 879-9426.
- 16:11It's going to state what district you're running for,
- 16:13what office, little bit about yourselves.
- 16:15You're welcome to call 879-9426. And we got up actually Bruce
- 16:21calling from Auburn. Before I get to Bruce, I just
- 16:22want to set this up because Jeremy's going to play a a tape
- 16:26here in a in a bit. And we went from the one, you
- 16:31know, the big beautiful bill that was passed by Congress and
- 16:34signed by the President that really provided tax relief for a
- 16:38critical areas of the state and the country And states can
- 16:44couple or not couple with a federal tax is call it tax
- 16:47conformity with what the federal government does.
- 16:50And Maine rejected some core tax breaks incentives for working
- 16:57Mainers. And now they're crawling about
- 16:59saying that oh, these billionaires are getting all
- 17:01these tax breaks. Well, they didn't even allow no
- 17:04tax on tips or no tax on overtime.
- 17:07And don't you think it doesn't rub us?
- 17:09We call a crowd the wrong way. There's a lot of hourly Co
- 17:13workers and people working waitress and a waiter in and
- 17:17service industry in the state of Maine that got blocked out of
- 17:20that and they're getting gouged 7.15% in taxes because the state
- 17:26of Maine can't live within its means and help the people that
- 17:29are actually running the economy.
- 17:32Bruce, welcome to INSIDE Maine. Yes.
- 17:35Good morning, Sean. Thank you for taking my call.
- 17:38I felt. I felt compelled to call because
- 17:41of what you said about what you said about doing the right thing
- 17:47with the Elliott Cutler situation, when you said, hey,
- 17:49you know, we're complete opposites.
- 17:51I shouldn't join your team. And I, it just pains me so much
- 17:56to think if we had a leader that had been elected in 2018 that
- 18:02had that type of spirit, that type of spine that I know Maine
- 18:07would not be where we are today. We would not have rampant fraud
- 18:10everywhere. We wouldn't have the problems
- 18:13with our child welfare program that we have.
- 18:16It's just mind boggling, the evaporation of the leaders.
- 18:19I know you've offered for other candidates to come on today and
- 18:23those that do take advantage of that.
- 18:26I encourage them to have a spine to stand up and be a leader and
- 18:31do what's right. That vacuum is killing the state
- 18:35of Maine. Bruce, Amen to that.
- 18:38Yeah, thanks. You know, hey, we get the best,
- 18:40best callers, we really do, and the best listeners in their
- 18:44insights and and that's what it is.
- 18:47You're right, Bruce, you know, leadership isn't about and I
- 18:51guess that's why probably I didn't win an 18.
- 18:53You know, it's if you get on the stage and you stick to values,
- 18:58you know, morals, ethics and what's worked, those things are
- 19:01all attributes for success in life, right?
- 19:06Being honest, being hard working, being humble, you know,
- 19:09being selfless, all those things are great attributes to live a
- 19:12very fulfilled and gratifying life.
- 19:15And they complete political liabilities.
- 19:18You know, if you're not willing to get up there and I hear it
- 19:21now, we're going to, you know, cut $4 billion out of the
- 19:24budget. We're going to do this, we're
- 19:25going to do that. I was like, Oh my God, you got
- 19:27to put the the hip boots on. You know, it's just throwing
- 19:29that BS out there. And, and you know, I just can't,
- 19:33I couldn't do it. I wouldn't do it.
- 19:34And that that cost you. It really does.
- 19:37People believe what they hear, and not all, but they do
- 19:41believe. And it's a matter of trying to
- 19:44convince people to vote for you because everything you got to do
- 19:46for them or give them or whatever, it's just crazy.
- 19:49We got Cindy calling from Portland.
- 19:51Cindy, welcome to INSIDE Main. And welcome to you being there
- 19:54today. Such a treat.
- 19:55Well, thank you. I I want to share when they were
- 19:59talking about, I don't believe it was Al.
- 20:02I had stepped out of the room and and came back in at the very
- 20:04end, something I heard on a radio show.
- 20:08Many, many, many years ago, this is when TV was on the radio, I
- 20:13think it was WCSH. And I forget who had a talk show
- 20:17at that time on the TV while and there was an interview with a
- 20:23man that was supposed to be getting ready to leave prison.
- 20:25And I forget what state, but he had a fear 'cause he had been a
- 20:30sex offender and he was afraid of being taken out.
- 20:35He'd been in prison for quite a while, and he was ready to go
- 20:38out, and he was afraid he'd forget his meds or something
- 20:42would happen. And he wanted to get castrated.
- 20:45And he said at the time, that was the one thing that was a
- 20:49definite cure, that you would have no desire.
- 20:54And after that, somebody else, a couple of weeks later, spoke out
- 20:58about the same thing. Now, whether that's true or not,
- 21:01but I would think somebody would have come on and said, no, that
- 21:04can't be done, but it makes kind of sense.
- 21:07But Elliott Kotla has had plenty of time to get help because if I
- 21:11recall in one of his interviews, he of being told he's had this
- 21:18affliction for a long, long, long time.
- 21:21And something that people might, might be aware of.
- 21:25I don't know what age limit on those three bills that Governor
- 21:31Mills put in about children and about being and having an
- 21:36abortion right at birth and then about kids coming in getting
- 21:40sliced and diced to change their sexes and nobody could
- 21:44interfere. Then the third bill was about
- 21:48prostitution and if she didn't stress, you had to be 21 years
- 21:52of age and an adult consenting adults.
- 21:56If that wasn't put into the bill, which never has really
- 21:59been said exactly what was in the bill on the radio and that's
- 22:03all I have to listen to. That gives free range to these
- 22:07people making these films because they a lot of people
- 22:11that get a hold of children or have children access to them
- 22:16prostitute them out for money to these film makers and especially
- 22:20little. Consensual, right, Cindy?
- 22:23I mean, yeah, consensual. You got a pimp that's gonna.
- 22:27Well, that's what they do. You win and you and you're going
- 22:29to go tell an officer, yeah, that was consensual because you
- 22:31don't want to lose your life or get, you know, who knows what
- 22:34would happen? So this.
- 22:35Yeah, that's it's. But with little children,
- 22:37dangerous parents get money for sometimes it's parents,
- 22:40sometimes it's family members, sometimes they be.
- 22:43Maybe there was a case of two sisters as grown-ups had their
- 22:48children and they were prostituting these little
- 22:50children out for money because a lot of these payments become
- 22:55drug addicts. No, they did Desperate and it's
- 22:58just sickening to think about. That and so if there's not.
- 23:01Lying that policy makers up in Augusta are actually, you know,
- 23:06putting in legislation to, you know, maybe maybe promotes too
- 23:11strong a word. But to allow this type of
- 23:14behaviour to to go on, it's just, it just, I don't
- 23:17understand. I really don't.
- 23:19I'm a father of four beautiful children, now adults and three
- 23:22granddaughters. And it's just, you know, it's
- 23:25hard to understand when you're not like that.
- 23:27You don't know. We don't hang around with people
- 23:28like that or you. Know I worked in.
- 23:31A It's shocking, it really. Is I worked in a crisis unit for
- 23:34quite a few years of young teens.
- 23:36So I came across a lot of these children that had been severely
- 23:41molested and raped. And even if little babies,
- 23:44little kids, and sometimes a lot of times it was family members,
- 23:50you have no idea. That's why when Bill Diamond did
- 23:52all that he did, I was so far behind him because those are the
- 23:55kind of kids that I worked with and it was hard.
- 23:58Something will never be right. Not physically, not mentally,
- 24:01not spiritually. They have been abused for so
- 24:04long. And just one other thing which
- 24:07isn't too far from this. No, I haven't heard one thing
- 24:11about this Platina and his Nazi tattoo.
- 24:14He's had more than enough time to get that taken off, and I
- 24:20haven't heard anybody that I know of say that on air when
- 24:25they've talked about that. He could've even done that when
- 24:28he was still in the military. He claims he got it when he was
- 24:31drunk. Well, once you wake up and
- 24:33realize, Oh my God, I don't want that on me.
- 24:35I haven't had a tattoo, but I know people have it.
- 24:37It's a painful very, very. Yeah.
- 24:40You don't do that when. Cindy, thanks for the call and
- 24:43and thanks for your, you know, heartfelt, you know, overview, I
- 24:47guess, of how how we've digressed right as a society and
- 24:52where I really got introduced to what Cindy was talking about and
- 24:56in children was really through the late Wayne Pucci drown, who
- 25:00became Gorham's first school resource officer.
- 25:02And Pucci would never, you know, ethically say names or say, you
- 25:07know, anything confidential about cases that he was working
- 25:10on, but he would generically say what in back and support what
- 25:13Cindy was talking about. And he had no idea he'd been a a
- 25:17Gorham police officer involved in the day a program, you know,
- 25:21for like 20 years before he became the SRO.
- 25:24He was shocked. I'm he was living that close to
- 25:26it. He and Cindy, his wife lived in
- 25:28Ruddy Gorham, you know, hometown and until he get into that
- 25:32school system and started working with those adolescents
- 25:34and teenagers and young adults, he had no idea and exactly what
- 25:39Cindy was talking about is going do you don't may not think so,
- 25:42but it's going on right under your nose in your local
- 25:44community. It's sad.
- 25:46It's a sad reality. So we'll change the subject by
- 25:51879-9426. Give a call and again, we're
- 25:55taking calls from candidates if they wish to, to join the
- 25:58program and stump give a little stump speech or whatever.
- 26:02Be happy to hear from you 8799426.
- 26:06So I want to switch topics here and talk about this lack of
- 26:11recognition of our current administration.
- 26:13I mean, oops in the in the fourth quarter mains, mains
- 26:19economic growth in the fourth quarter, the GDP they call it,
- 26:22but economic growth was 0, all right, zero.
- 26:25So you would think the administration that has kind of
- 26:27brought it the economy to its knees, mains economy in in
- 26:31addition to what's happening on the national level, would
- 26:34recognize the opportunity of an economic stimulus package in, in
- 26:37forms of tax relief. You think they would have
- 26:40recognized that they had it right in their lap and they
- 26:43chose and voted to reject it. So I'm outraged about that.
- 26:47And I'll tell you, we had, I got on the phone, I was so wound up,
- 26:50I, I called a lot of my, you know, business friends and
- 26:53associates contacts or whatever and said, let's pull together a
- 26:57convoy. We're going to circle the
- 26:58capital and let this administration know what how
- 27:01much hurt they're putting on the working people here in the state
- 27:04of Maine. And we had these are these are
- 27:08household name reputable companies.
- 27:10OK. This isn't a tea party rally
- 27:12with flags hanging out the back. These are well established and
- 27:15caught motors, for example, Core auto Group, Autoworks, you know
- 27:20one of the sponsors here at at WGAN Boyd Rich, you know he he
- 27:25came Brent Day from day logging the Carrier family with
- 27:30supported 2 truck Shaw Brothers construction, Peters
- 27:34construction, Gorham sand and gravel was represented.
- 27:39B&B towing. Johnny Pompeo showed up Glenn
- 27:43Glenn Lewis. Bill Plante came all the way
- 27:45down from Springdale, saw Sanford, drove all the way to
- 27:49Augusta, Mark Bendigas, Salmon Falls, I could go on.
- 27:53But we we basically got 50 trucks around that capital and
- 27:58paraded around there in a convoy and did a press release, a press
- 28:03conference afterwards. Steve Demilo, who was there to
- 28:06represent the hospitality industry on the no tax on tips.
- 28:09And we got in front of the cameras and just said this is
- 28:11this is outrageous. You know, we had an opportunity
- 28:15to stimulate Maine's economy by giving the people that nobody
- 28:20works harder than someone's working overtime.
- 28:23OK. And you're trying to spin this
- 28:26around to say, you know, we're going to the rich are getting
- 28:30all the tax breaks. No, I don't know too many like
- 28:33rich people are working by the hour or put it that way, or
- 28:35waiting tables or or taking tips at the convenience store or or
- 28:40Tony's Donuts, for example. These are just salt of the earth
- 28:43maintenance trying to grind out a living and this administration
- 28:48just objected their responsibilities to try to
- 28:51stimulate and reward the the main, the core of our economy.
- 28:57So I I met this summer, got a cool up in Bangor at the Moody
- 29:01shop up there. Kelly Lefler, who was the actual
- 29:04secretary of the small Business Association nationally, she's
- 29:08the charge of the whole country, the small Business Association.
- 29:10They were promoting this big beautiful bill and these tax
- 29:13incentives. So they she came to Moody's in
- 29:15Bangor to represent it with our entourage.
- 29:18And Jeremy's going to play the clip that we put together and I,
- 29:23I want you to listen to it. It's great to be at Moody's.
- 29:27Thank you for having this is incredible the hard working
- 29:30Americans that make our local communities work.
- 29:33I know we're out talking about the one big beautiful bill and
- 29:36how important. No tax on tips.
- 29:38Also no tax on overtime. Tell me what it means for your
- 29:42employees. No tax on overtime.
- 29:45We're a Co worker owned company, so there's actually an equity
- 29:49stake for our Co workers to make sure that they're helping the
- 29:52business grow. So it's like an elastic when you
- 29:55have an incumbent workforce during a busy season, you've got
- 29:58to be able to stretch the output, right?
- 30:00So people put the overtime in to get our customers, vehicles back
- 30:03out on the road. And then we can kind of shrink
- 30:05up when we don't need it, but just to incentivize the people
- 30:09that do the. Work.
- 30:10That do the extra. I mean, it's just so I hope
- 30:14Congress doesn't find a way to mess this up because no tax on
- 30:17tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on Social Security.
- 30:21Don't mess the rest of it up. That's the core that that's what
- 30:24needs to happen. That's right.
- 30:25Well, that's why it's called beautiful.
- 30:27So, but look, yeah, you, you tax more of what you don't want, and
- 30:32you should tax less the things that you do want.
- 30:36Well, currently the the system disincentivizes work by having
- 30:41high taxes. So if we can get that tax
- 30:43penalty on overtime away hardworking Americans like we
- 30:47have here, you've built an amazing company.
- 30:50Wow. 280 Co. Worker, it's amazing.
- 30:53Well, here's I want to say because this is the the
- 30:57underlying, it could be like a renaissance to America's work
- 31:02ethic. A work ethic is slated,
- 31:03especially here in the state of Maine.
- 31:05And when you start incentivizing people and rewarding people to
- 31:09do the extra and they'll see that that's how they're going to
- 31:11get ahead. There's no magic wand, right?
- 31:12You got to grind it out, work hard, stay focused, tighten up,
- 31:16and that's how you're going to live that American dream.
- 31:18So for the government to recognize that and say, hey,
- 31:21let's get off the backs of the people that are actually the
- 31:23core strength of our economy. Yeah.
- 31:27Thank you, Kelly. Well.
- 31:28Thank President Trump for the helping us live the American
- 31:31dream all across communities like this and in great small
- 31:33businesses. Thank you son.
- 31:35Appreciate. It thanks for playing that,
- 31:38Jeremy. Yeah, it was quite a quite a
- 31:39moment. This gal, like I said, she's
- 31:42head of the whole small Business Association for the whole
- 31:45country. Kelly Loeffler, shop lady.
- 31:48And she'd been travelling around and they got that pass through
- 31:51Congress and President Trump signed it.
- 31:53And again, the, the, the state can choose to couple or conform
- 31:59or not. And they can pick and choose
- 32:01what they conform with or not. And so they opted to not
- 32:06conform. I want to be real clear about
- 32:07this because all these Democrat legislatures are running for re
- 32:10election. And I got to tell you right now,
- 32:13I don't even know how they should be embarrassed.
- 32:15They should be ashamed of themselves.
- 32:17They're going to go knock on doors and and tell people that
- 32:19they're probusiness pro small business.
- 32:21I guarantee it. They have no shame and I want
- 32:24everyone out there. I'm putting you on alert.
- 32:26Then when they start flying that around, you say, well, what's
- 32:28the show on inside me? And he told me you voted to for
- 32:32the budget that did not include the tax relief.
- 32:35So in the fact you voted to tax the tips, you voted to tax the
- 32:39overtime. So it just it just floors me
- 32:43that you're like, where's where's bath iron works, right?
- 32:45They got 4000 tradespeople up there, probably closer to six
- 32:50that tend to lean, you know, the unions tend to lean to vote for
- 32:53Democrats. Like how could they even
- 32:55consider voting for a Democrat legislator that did that to
- 32:58them? You know how much money that
- 32:59would be a 7.15% on their overtime.
- 33:03Firefighters, you heard Governor Mills, you know, paying a
- 33:05tribute to to, you know, wooden Tibbets and and the firefighter
- 33:10and across yeah, those guys working overtime.
- 33:13That's is that's the thanks you give them tax or overtime.
- 33:16Yeah, OK. You know, I'm not going to over
- 33:20shadow what was really a good tribute.
- 33:22I can give her credit for that. But that's the reality.
- 33:24Actions speak louder than words. You know, behavior doesn't lie.
- 33:28So I know we got calls coming in here.
- 33:30You know my soapbox. But again, this is an important
- 33:34election coming up here. I mean, in two weeks we've got
- 33:36the primary if anybody wants to call in as a candidate, but
- 33:40anyone wants to call too and just weigh in.
- 33:42You know who you think's who you think's going to win.
- 33:44You know, Democrat unenrolled, actually on the rolls, not in
- 33:49the primary, but Republican, Democrat candidates.
- 33:51You know who you're going to support, you're going to back.
- 33:54We're going to try to catch a quick call here before the
- 33:57break. Ethan, you've been waiting
- 33:59patiently. I'm sorry.
- 34:00I got on. I got on a roll there.
- 34:02That's OK, Shawn, I you're a busy guy.
- 34:06Yeah, I just. We.
- 34:06Only got, we only got like a minute.
- 34:08I apologize. Do that to you.
- 34:09Yeah. Yeah, alright, I'll make it
- 34:12short. I am a candidate by the way, but
- 34:15I think I'm probably not going to make the signature thing.
- 34:18I, I have one, I'm not going to be in top some.
- 34:20I had advertised I was going to be in top some today.
- 34:22I'm probably not going to do that.
- 34:23I will be. I think I'll be in on the
- 34:27Eastern Prom on Monday, but check my Ethan Alcorn.
- 34:31Yeah. What can they go to?
- 34:32Yeah. Ethan Alcorn for U.S.
- 34:34Senate on Facebook and I'll have an update there, but I need I
- 34:38need a miracle to get the to get all the signatures but but.
- 34:42Say that one more time, Ethan, and I'll let you go whipping to
- 34:45get a hold of. You Ethan Alcorn for U.S.
- 34:49Senate on Facebook. And yeah, that's probably,
- 34:53that's probably the best, the best spot, but.
- 34:55Thank you, Ethan. Thanks for calling.
- 34:57I'm sorry everybody got to go to break.
- 34:59Thank you. Good luck, Ethan.
- 35:01Thank you. We'll be right back.
