- 0:09Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots This is the Patriots
- 0:14Speaker 1: Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan Lazar and Alex Barth
- 0:18Speaker 1: Blazar and Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it. He joined us.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Always buy an our bar cap match. Here is Evan
- 0:28Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Barr. Would you have the five positions?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Here we go in pior, defensive.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Line, ABS, linebackers, cornerback and safety. No, we know, yes,
- 0:38Speaker 1: yes we do. They're gonna take a kicker, so let's
- 0:40Speaker 1: hold us. Last week they didn't take an hour and
- 0:42Speaker 1: a half to get through all the different positions.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I don't carry's they were doing kickers.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Can you feel the excitement? Thirty six hours to go?
- 0:51Speaker 1: Are you pumped up? Alex Barth? Are you ready for
- 0:54Speaker 1: the NFL Draft? Oh yeah, he's ready.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's the.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Most excitement I can muster. That was pretty goot set up.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We're back to like, we're back.
- 1:02Speaker 4: To we're series.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We mean business today it is a thirty six ish
- 1:07Speaker 1: called thirty eight hours out from the NFL Draft, the
- 1:11Speaker 1: beginning of the first round of the NFL Draft, and uh,
- 1:15Speaker 1: this is uh, this is exciting that hey is in
- 1:17Speaker 1: the barn for the most part, I always like, there's
- 1:20Speaker 1: always like two or three guys at the very end
- 1:22Speaker 1: that I just feel like I gotta I get an
- 1:25Speaker 1: itch and I'm like, I gotta do these guys something.
- 1:27Speaker 1: My gut is telling me that they might take one
- 1:29Speaker 1: of these guys. But in general, we're getting closer to
- 1:33Speaker 1: the NFL Draft finally, thankfully, how we can start with
- 1:37Speaker 1: stop with all the pre draft nonsense and actually get
- 1:40Speaker 1: into the players that they actually pick. The Patriots actually pick,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I should say, so that is really exciting. But before
- 1:47Speaker 1: we find out who they are actually going to pick,
- 1:49Speaker 1: over the next three days, we have to do one
- 1:52Speaker 1: more draft preview shows. So we didn't do enough draft
- 1:55Speaker 1: preview shows over the last four months, so we have
- 1:58Speaker 1: to do a whole nother one for the next two hours.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So we'll get into some of the news that's come out,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and I will say it's a now pretty well known
- 2:10Speaker 1: line by Bill Belichick in his media year that these
- 2:15Speaker 1: twenty four to forty eight hours are when some of
- 2:17Speaker 1: the real information about the draft starts to come out.
- 2:19Speaker 1: You know, we hear a lot of smoking mirrors for
- 2:23Speaker 1: months in the lead up to the draft, but now
- 2:25Speaker 1: that the teams have set the board and they kind
- 2:28Speaker 1: of know what their expectations are. Heading in we start
- 2:31Speaker 1: to hear some real information. We also start to hear
- 2:33Speaker 1: a lot more about potential trades at this point. This
- 2:37Speaker 1: is when again the board is set, the trades start
- 2:39Speaker 1: to come in, they start to field calls. So we'll
- 2:43Speaker 1: get to all of that good stuff as well, but
- 2:45Speaker 1: before we really get rolling here, support the home team.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Join New England's events staff here at Jillette Stadium. Seasonal
- 2:52Speaker 1: Positional is available in food and beverage, parking and security.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Visit www dot thecraft group dot com careers and apply today.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I used to be a frequent visitor to the craft
- 3:04Speaker 1: group dot com slash careers and that's actually how I
- 3:08Speaker 1: found this job. Like I wasn't like I got any
- 3:11Speaker 1: intel whatsoever from Mike d so you know you could have.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I actually found this job right on the craft careers website,
- 3:19Speaker 1: so make sure to check that out first.
- 3:21Speaker 5: All this business, it's just about a lot of its
- 3:23Speaker 5: just being in the right place at the right time.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's exactly what it was. So I want to get
- 3:28Speaker 1: into some of the news. I also want to you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: get into some of the Patriots specific news, but also
- 3:33Speaker 1: some of just the general first round NFL news here
- 3:36Speaker 1: that's starting to trickle out as well, And we also
- 3:39Speaker 1: are going to share my first time I have not
- 3:42Speaker 1: put a top ten mock draft out, so this will
- 3:45Speaker 1: be my first top ten mock draft, so I also
- 3:47Speaker 1: want to put that out here today as well. And Alex,
- 3:50Speaker 1: I know you've done a couple, but this will be
- 3:51Speaker 1: your your final top ten mock draft. Now you're going
- 3:55Speaker 1: to share here on the show today, So that's the
- 3:58Speaker 1: agenda of course, all your calls and Emil as well.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But I want to start off the top with just
- 4:03Speaker 1: sort of the feeling right now around the Patriots. I
- 4:06Speaker 1: think the overwhelming favorite is Will Campbell with the fourth
- 4:09Speaker 1: overall pick. It almost feels like it's Campbell or the
- 4:12Speaker 1: field at this point. If you're a person that wants
- 4:15Speaker 1: to place a friendly wager on what the Patriots are
- 4:17Speaker 1: going to do tomorrow night, those are seem to be
- 4:19Speaker 1: your two options. I would say that the dark horses
- 4:23Speaker 1: remains Jalen Walker. I think he's probably the biggest dark
- 4:26Speaker 1: horse candidate, and then the sneaky super dark horse candidate
- 4:30Speaker 1: is Ash and Genty. Right, those three guys, I feel
- 4:33Speaker 1: like are really what we're talking about here, But at
- 4:35Speaker 1: this hour, Diana Russini, just about an hour ago, she is,
- 4:39Speaker 1: you know, publishing reports about all of the different teams
- 4:44Speaker 1: in the top ten. It seems like she has the
- 4:46Speaker 1: Patriots taking calls for the fourth overall pick. Now, there's
- 4:50Speaker 1: a big difference between taking calls and actually having real
- 4:54Speaker 1: conversations about the pick.
- 4:57Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I go back to last year Hard Knocks. We saw
- 5:01Speaker 1: Elliott Wolf and Joe Shane of the New York Giants
- 5:04Speaker 1: interacting on the phone about the third overall pick last year,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and it was, yeah, like, unless you're gonna give us
- 5:11Speaker 1: something absolutely crazy for the pick, we we're gonna stick
- 5:14Speaker 1: and pick Drake May and we feel good about taking
- 5:16Speaker 1: the quarterback. So sometimes those calls are short lived. But
- 5:21Speaker 1: I still ultimately come back to the best case scenario
- 5:25Speaker 1: for the Patriots is obviously the trade down and still
- 5:29Speaker 1: get their guy, right. I don't know if that's realistic
- 5:32Speaker 1: in multiple fronts. I don't know if Will Campbell will
- 5:34Speaker 1: still be there. I don't know if the trade down
- 5:36Speaker 1: will materialize, But if they could trade down within the
- 5:39Speaker 1: top ten and still draft either Will Campbell or Armand
- 5:43Speaker 1: Membu or even Kelvin Banks. I feel like that's a
- 5:46Speaker 1: pretty good way to go about this right now, at
- 5:49Speaker 1: this hour. How do you feel about where the Patriots
- 5:51Speaker 1: are at?
- 5:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, look, a trade down would be great.
- 5:54Speaker 5: I've said this, although the one thing I don't want
- 5:56Speaker 5: to see them do. And there was a report I
- 5:58Speaker 5: think it was Jordan Schultz this morning. I'll see if
- 6:00Speaker 5: I can find it that was basically like the teams
- 6:04Speaker 5: taking calls on the picks at the top of the draft,
- 6:06Speaker 5: and this was even about the Browns and Giants, who
- 6:08Speaker 5: are obviously in a pretty good position with the two
- 6:10Speaker 5: blue chip players there.
- 6:13Speaker 3: He had said that those calls were I thought it
- 6:15Speaker 3: was Schultz. I guess not.
- 6:18Speaker 5: We're coming in for I think the verbigs was seventy
- 6:21Speaker 5: cents on the dollar.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so what I don't want.
- 6:24Speaker 5: To see the Patriots? Do you hear it is Jordan Schultz?
- 6:27Speaker 5: Several teams picking in the top ten are opening trading down.
- 6:30Speaker 5: The challenge has been finding teams willing to move up.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Per sources. From what I'm hearing, there isn't a strong
- 6:34Speaker 5: push to trade up this year at the top, especially
- 6:37Speaker 5: if it means giving up significant value that aligns with
- 6:39Speaker 5: traditional charts. As one source put it, quote, the current
- 6:43Speaker 5: offers are seventy cents on the dollar. A trade down
- 6:46Speaker 5: would be great, especially I think Instill Go one of
- 6:47Speaker 5: those tackles.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Trade down be great.
- 6:49Speaker 5: I'm not saying I don't want it, but what I
- 6:51Speaker 5: don't want is for them to give the pickaway.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Sure, I don't.
- 6:55Speaker 5: I think there are some people who would be more
- 6:58Speaker 5: comfortable with the trade back because they're nervous about this
- 7:01Speaker 5: class overall. Understandable, it's not a great class. They're nervous
- 7:04Speaker 5: about this class overall, and they'd rather miss at nine
- 7:08Speaker 5: or ten than miss at four, because then at least
- 7:11Speaker 5: you can tell you yourself you've got something else back.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Okay, if all.
- 7:15Speaker 5: You got back is a third round pick one, you're
- 7:20Speaker 5: still getting a lesser player.
- 7:21Speaker 1: If you move back.
- 7:22Speaker 5: I don't think Campbell's getting to ten. And if he does,
- 7:26Speaker 5: what does that say about kind of how he's viewed
- 7:28Speaker 5: by the league. So you're still getting a lesser player.
- 7:30Speaker 5: Does a third round pick make that much of a
- 7:32Speaker 5: difference at the end of the day. And I know
- 7:34Speaker 5: Elliot Wolf is here, but for all intents and purposes,
- 7:36Speaker 5: it's a new regime. The first selection of the new
- 7:41Speaker 5: regime and you're gonna bargain sell it. That's a tough
- 7:45Speaker 5: president to set because now you're the organization that gives
- 7:47Speaker 5: away draft picks like Halloween candy. So, like, I don't
- 7:50Speaker 5: want to see if they get a good trade, I.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Want them to take it.
- 7:53Speaker 5: And that's ultimately what would be the best case scenario
- 7:55Speaker 5: is if they get a good trade. What I don't
- 7:57Speaker 5: want is them to sell the pick, just to sell
- 7:59Speaker 5: the pick and take a lesser player because they felt
- 8:02Speaker 5: like they had a trade down because they just weren't
- 8:03Speaker 5: comfortable at four.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with everything that you just said in
- 8:07Speaker 1: terms of the value of a trade down. We've both agreed.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And I know that some people are gonna say, oh,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you were a Campbell guy the whole time, you didn't
- 8:15Speaker 1: want to trade down. No, we've both agreed that, yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 1: a trade down is the best case scenario for it.
- 8:19Speaker 5: I just don't think it's going to be there their
- 8:20Speaker 5: best their best case scenario. And I almost put this
- 8:23Speaker 5: in my maw draft on Sunday, and you and some
- 8:25Speaker 5: other people talk me out of it, said it was
- 8:26Speaker 5: two unrealistic, And now it's all the rave the most
- 8:29Speaker 5: like because so I put together my last NFL mock
- 8:32Speaker 5: and it I usually as you do, usually do too,
- 8:35Speaker 5: Like I usually do a trade down mock or trade
- 8:37Speaker 5: up or trade down. Yeah, the last few years has
- 8:39Speaker 5: been trade down. I just do a trade down mock
- 8:41Speaker 5: every year just to kind of be like, hey, this
- 8:43Speaker 5: is what that scenario might look like. There really wasn't
- 8:46Speaker 5: a trade until we got this reporting on Monday after
- 8:49Speaker 5: it was published that felt realistic. But the two I
- 8:51Speaker 5: was working on were the Panther is coming up from
- 8:53Speaker 5: eight to get ted McMillan, and the Bears coming up
- 8:56Speaker 5: from ten to get genty. If they make a deal,
- 8:59Speaker 5: I think it's the Bear coming up from ten because
- 9:01Speaker 5: the Bears are in this unique position where they have
- 9:03Speaker 5: thirty nine and forty one. I believe it's the last
- 9:06Speaker 5: pick to relay from that Bryce Young trade a couple
- 9:08Speaker 5: years ago.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I don't know if they have another, but this has
- 9:10Speaker 1: to be towards the end of that.
- 9:12Speaker 5: But they have an ext They have the Panthers first
- 9:14Speaker 5: round pick or second round pick, so they would maybe
- 9:17Speaker 5: be a little more willing to part with that. The
- 9:20Speaker 5: deal I had was the Bears go ten the second
- 9:24Speaker 5: of those two seconds, which is forty one and then
- 9:26Speaker 5: a future second and the idea behind it basically being
- 9:31Speaker 5: and I'll ask I'll pose this to you as a question. Heaven,
- 9:34Speaker 5: we talked about the quarterback tax all the time. When
- 9:36Speaker 5: teams are trading up, you got to pay more than
- 9:37Speaker 5: the pick is worth because it's quarterbacks that valuable.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Of a position.
- 9:41Speaker 5: In this draft where there really aren't any quarterbacks and
- 9:44Speaker 5: there's just such a lack of blue chip talent ash
- 9:47Speaker 5: and Genty albeit the fact he's a running back. Is
- 9:50Speaker 5: there going to be a blue chip talent, blue chip tax, Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 1: In this draft.
- 9:54Speaker 5: And maybe it's not as much as the quarterback tax,
- 9:56Speaker 5: but is the way the Patriots maximize ash values gent
- 10:00Speaker 5: in the draft, not by taking him, but by using
- 10:02Speaker 5: him as bait to flip a trade.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So it's exactly where I wanted to go next. So
- 10:07Speaker 1: he read my mind. Yeah, it sounds to me like
- 10:10Speaker 1: there's enough of a market for Ashton Genty that to
- 10:14Speaker 1: your exact point, they could orchestrate a trade with basically
- 10:20Speaker 1: trading Genty. Right, You're gonna trade Genty to the Chicago Bears,
- 10:25Speaker 1: potentially to the Las Vegas Raiders. Maybe they want to
- 10:28Speaker 1: jump Jacksonville because they think Jacksonville is gonna take Genty
- 10:31Speaker 1: at five, so they come in and they jump Jacksonville.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think that that's really now if you are hoping
- 10:39Speaker 1: for the trade down, if you're a Patriots fan, what
- 10:43Speaker 1: you're hoping for is that some team is so in
- 10:45Speaker 1: love with Ashton Genty that they were going to make
- 10:48Speaker 1: that trade happen and they're going to move up to
- 10:49Speaker 1: four to come and get him. We had a lot
- 10:51Speaker 1: of conversations about doing this exact thing for Travis Hunter
- 10:55Speaker 1: or Abdul Carter or whatever the case may be. Well,
- 10:59Speaker 1: Peter Schrager was kind of the first one on this
- 11:01Speaker 1: that said that teams have three guys in mind that
- 11:04Speaker 1: they could potentially trade up for adding Ashton Genty to
- 11:08Speaker 1: that of those other two in terms of the trio.
- 11:12Speaker 1: If the Patriots can get out of four because Ashon
- 11:16Speaker 1: Genty is such a draw to trade into four, then
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's good news for the Patriots. But the question that
- 11:22Speaker 1: I would ask is do the teams really feel like
- 11:25Speaker 1: they need to go all the way up to four
- 11:27Speaker 1: to get Genty? Could you go out to five to
- 11:29Speaker 1: Jacksonville and still get Genty? Because everybody in the league,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and I'm not saying that this information is one hundred
- 11:36Speaker 1: percent accurate. I think it was also Schrager who said,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you know, he tried to poke around New England and
- 11:42Speaker 1: he couldn't get anybody to talk in Foxborough about what
- 11:47Speaker 1: they're gonna do at four overall, but if we just
- 11:49Speaker 1: believe all the tea leaves, and I think it was
- 11:52Speaker 1: Jeremy Fowler who said that the Patriots might have an
- 11:54Speaker 1: infatuation with Will Campbell, So maybe the league knows that
- 11:58Speaker 1: this draft is going can Ward, Travis Hunter, Abdull Carter,
- 12:02Speaker 1: Will Campbell, and the Patriots are kind of locked into
- 12:05Speaker 1: Will Campbell at four, so there would be no reason
- 12:08Speaker 1: to go all the way up to four for Genteel, Right,
- 12:09Speaker 1: that's the devil's advocage, especially.
- 12:11Speaker 5: When you have your nerd guy at five with the
- 12:13Speaker 5: Jags and he doesn't care what players on the board.
- 12:16Speaker 5: If you can show him on the chart that the
- 12:18Speaker 5: picks you're giving him are worth warning picks he's giving up,
- 12:20Speaker 5: he's gonna do the trade.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Regardless of what he wants to take.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Well, that's an easier deal to mate.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought that up, because that's the other
- 12:26Speaker 1: thing that I can't. And I've been texting you about
- 12:29Speaker 1: this off the air. I can't get over this feeling
- 12:32Speaker 1: of you're telling me that probably one of you know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: really an analytics guru, is running the Jacksonville Jaguars. Like
- 12:43Speaker 1: it's the same as all of the nerds in baseball
- 12:46Speaker 1: that get crapped on by people like you and people
- 12:49Speaker 1: like Matt McCarthy and the rest of your brethren, people
- 12:51Speaker 1: who actually enjoy watching sports. Yeah, all you got, And
- 12:56Speaker 1: I say that with love all of you guys, you know,
- 12:59Speaker 1: come at the nerds and baseball. Gladstone's basically that, but
- 13:02Speaker 1: in football of course, right, that's what he is. Yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: And so you're telling me, in his very first draft
- 13:08Speaker 1: as a general manager in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 13:11Speaker 1: his very first draft, he is going to buck the
- 13:15Speaker 1: one analytical trend that every single nerd is dead set on,
- 13:19Speaker 1: which is that running backs don't matter. And he's going
- 13:23Speaker 1: to take a running back at five overall. And that's
- 13:25Speaker 1: right now. That is the consensus pick for the Jaguars
- 13:29Speaker 1: is action Mason Graham. For a while, I feel like
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's it's the last you know, this week, the mocks
- 13:35Speaker 1: that have been posted by the people that are in
- 13:37Speaker 1: the know. You know, the the Schrager Mack. I think
- 13:40Speaker 1: he had Genty there at five.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Ye, the Schrager Mak's usually pretty good.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Those people are saying it's Genty. And the other team
- 13:50Speaker 1: that has reportedly infatuated with ash and Gent is the
- 13:56Speaker 1: same team who's head coach was at the league meetings
- 14:00Speaker 1: in a month ago talking about pass epa being the
- 14:04Speaker 1: most important stat in football. And now you're telling me
- 14:07Speaker 1: that the Chicago Bears and Ben Johnson are going to
- 14:10Speaker 1: trade up for Ashton Gent. So when the Chicago Bears
- 14:12Speaker 1: have DeAndre Swift under content, oh, and I can actually
- 14:15Speaker 1: justify because the Lions thing, because the Lions can't you
- 14:19Speaker 1: nerd if you're going to take Ashton Genty in trade
- 14:22Speaker 1: up picks to take Ashton Gent.
- 14:24Speaker 5: The Lions did it because they had success in doing it.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Swift is on a one year deal, but yeah, a
- 14:29Speaker 1: twenty year deal.
- 14:31Speaker 5: He's sorry, he's on a two year deal, but it's
- 14:33Speaker 5: there's an out after this year, So Swift's gone after
- 14:37Speaker 5: this year. And because they have the offensive line to
- 14:40Speaker 5: justify it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I think some of the.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Moves they've made this offseason, I think they're as close
- 14:44Speaker 5: as anybody up there.
- 14:45Speaker 3: That is the offensive line to justify it.
- 14:48Speaker 5: The Bears, I think you can make an argument for
- 14:50Speaker 5: I know Ben Jonson's a nerd, and they don't like
- 14:52Speaker 5: running guys the way they operated in Detroit. I think
- 14:55Speaker 5: he may be one of these nerds that is a
- 14:57Speaker 5: little softer on the running back thing than everybody else.
- 15:00Speaker 5: The Bears would not surprise me. The Jacks are the
- 15:02Speaker 5: reasons you're saying would surprise me. But you will disown
- 15:06Speaker 5: that guy so fast from the nerd community.
- 15:08Speaker 1: If they take him. If you take a running this
- 15:10Speaker 1: is what you you you if yours until they do
- 15:13Speaker 1: dumb nerd stuff and then you just own them and
- 15:15Speaker 1: you say because not like but that's what they all do.
- 15:18Speaker 1: But this isn't that's not nerd them. You you you
- 15:21Speaker 1: went against everything that we believe in.
- 15:24Speaker 5: What if the math is telling him to take Chencey.
- 15:27Speaker 5: I can't imagine the math math has just created to
- 15:29Speaker 5: proven argument. It's like how everybody, universally turnovers were bad
- 15:33Speaker 5: until a couple of years ago. People wanted to explain
- 15:36Speaker 5: away Josh Allen's they created some math that said turnovers
- 15:38Speaker 5: aren't actually that bad.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Okay, but I'm gonna leave that.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Maybe he's just maybe he created a new formula that
- 15:44Speaker 5: tells him to say, you.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Look at running backs, and that the the entire discourse
- 15:49Speaker 1: around then then running backs with the analytics people. A
- 15:54Speaker 1: lot of the reason why analytics people are anti running
- 15:57Speaker 1: back is because they're interchanged. Right, Statistically, there's only a
- 16:02Speaker 1: handful of guys that truly make a difference. Sakuon Barkley, Healthy,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry. Like we're talking about three to
- 16:12Speaker 1: five guys I would say in the league that truly
- 16:14Speaker 1: make a difference.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Well, I think if you're taking ash and Genty that high,
- 16:17Speaker 5: you believe he's one of those.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Okay, but it's not just that, right, that's the main
- 16:21Speaker 1: reason I would say that's like seventy five percent, sixty
- 16:25Speaker 1: to seventy five percent. The other reasons are career longevity
- 16:31Speaker 1: in prime shelf life, and Derrick Henry has bucked this trend.
- 16:36Speaker 1: He's going on ten years. But Derek Henry's a tank.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Derrick Henry is huge. Yeah, Derek Henry's an alien. I
- 16:42Speaker 1: don't think that Ashon Denty at five eight, two hundred
- 16:45Speaker 1: and eleven pounds is the same thing as saying that
- 16:47Speaker 1: Derreck Henry, who's built like a defensive end playing running back,
- 16:52Speaker 1: is going to have the same career longevity in terms
- 16:55Speaker 1: of his prime And the last thing is obviously contract
- 16:59Speaker 1: value and the fact that if you draft Genty at
- 17:02Speaker 1: five overall, you are going to be paying him like
- 17:04Speaker 1: a top five running back in the league immediately based
- 17:07Speaker 1: off the market. So is it the most valuable pick
- 17:10Speaker 1: that you could make? And if he decides to go
- 17:13Speaker 1: against all of that years of research and data that
- 17:17Speaker 1: all of his fellow nerds have put together and takes Genty,
- 17:21Speaker 1: then he is not a true nerd. You're not doing it.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You're not doing it right. That's not it. And then
- 17:28Speaker 1: I would say the same thing.
- 17:28Speaker 5: For him, create a new data, because that's what these
- 17:31Speaker 5: guys do. They create data to back up what they want.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Sure, sure, But for the Patriots, as it pertains to
- 17:37Speaker 1: the Patriots with the fourth overall pick, the hope is
- 17:40Speaker 1: is that some team is so in love with Ash
- 17:44Speaker 1: and Denty that they can trade out of the fourth
- 17:47Speaker 1: overall pick, get picks back, and then maybe still pick
- 17:51Speaker 1: their guy Will Campbell as it sounds now my question
- 17:55Speaker 1: to you, And then we'll move off this. Does will
- 17:59Speaker 1: Campbell make it to eight to ten? You know, let's
- 18:02Speaker 1: say they trade out with Chicago and they go from
- 18:04Speaker 1: four to ten. Is he going to be there at ten?
- 18:06Speaker 1: And if he isn't, you know, what is your cluster? Like,
- 18:09Speaker 1: what's your stack? Because you have to have multiple options
- 18:12Speaker 1: there at ten. I don't I actually think that there
- 18:14Speaker 1: are options. I don't really hate, but I'm just interested
- 18:18Speaker 1: to hear, like, who are like the three or four
- 18:19Speaker 1: guys that you would be comfortable with at ten?
- 18:21Speaker 3: So with Campbell, I don't know.
- 18:22Speaker 5: I mean, there's a case to be made that the
- 18:24Speaker 5: Jags could take him if they're worried about what's gonna
- 18:26Speaker 5: happen with Qul.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Not the Jags, this case to be made.
- 18:28Speaker 5: The Lions could wow, oh my god, the Bears, No,
- 18:32Speaker 5: the Raiders, the Raiders, this case made. The Raiders could
- 18:34Speaker 5: take him if they're not comfortable with Colton Miller. The
- 18:38Speaker 5: Bears certainly, well, if they're trading up in the scenari,
- 18:41Speaker 5: they're trading up for Gente Center, gonna take them.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I think the Jets.
- 18:44Speaker 5: We're all assuming the Jets are going to take arm
- 18:46Speaker 5: on Membu because they clearly need a right tackle and
- 18:48Speaker 5: he's a right tackle. Are we giving the Jets too
- 18:50Speaker 5: much credit for making the obvious pick? You know, we've
- 18:54Speaker 5: spent so much time on worrying about Membo going from
- 18:57Speaker 5: right to left. It would be so Jets to need
- 18:59Speaker 5: a right tackle and then take Campbell and try to
- 19:01Speaker 5: move them from left to right, which would make no sense.
- 19:03Speaker 3: But again it's New York Jets.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Well, Joe All just did it, so yeah, but there's
- 19:08Speaker 1: a right tackle right there, I know, but it you know,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and it makes sense when the Chargers did it either
- 19:12Speaker 1: that Joe All is going to make teams think it's possible,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I guess, Butrarn Membing is right there.
- 19:19Speaker 5: And then I also look at the Niners at eleven
- 19:21Speaker 5: and the Dolphins at thirteen. Now, the Dolphins will probably
- 19:23Speaker 5: just draft whoever ran the fastest forty because that's what
- 19:26Speaker 5: they do. But like if they were smart, the Dolphins
- 19:28Speaker 5: desperately need offensive line help. The Niners could use a
- 19:31Speaker 5: tackle Trent Williams as year to year. So you know,
- 19:34Speaker 5: if you trade down to ten, those teams are at
- 19:36Speaker 5: eleven and thirteen, do they jump you and move up
- 19:38Speaker 5: to nine with the Saints or eight with Carolina I
- 19:41Speaker 5: was talking to Philip Perry yesterday. You could make a case,
- 19:44Speaker 5: and I don't know it's the most likely thing, but
- 19:46Speaker 5: it's a realistic scenario that Campbell, Membou and Banks all
- 19:52Speaker 5: go before ten if you trade back, yeah, and it
- 19:55Speaker 5: would probably take another trade up to get there, but
- 19:57Speaker 5: you run that risk. So what would the stack be
- 19:59Speaker 5: for me if Campbell go, You could sell me on
- 20:03Speaker 5: Membo or Banks. They're one A, one B. You're taking
- 20:06Speaker 5: risks with both of them. It's just kind of again
- 20:09Speaker 5: like we talked about campbellin Membo, it's just a matter
- 20:11Speaker 5: of what questions they want to deal with more. I
- 20:14Speaker 5: think Jalen Walkers could still be at play Down at
- 20:17Speaker 5: ten and at that point, you know, do you bring
- 20:22Speaker 5: Ted McMillan back in the conversation.
- 20:24Speaker 1: That's who I was going to bring up as the
- 20:26Speaker 1: last guy, right. I feel like it's the tackles that
- 20:29Speaker 1: whoever in the tackle group falls. Whether it's probably more
- 20:33Speaker 1: likely Membo or Banks, but Campbell, Membo, Banks, I think
- 20:37Speaker 1: you have to put Jalen Walker in that conversation, especially
- 20:39Speaker 1: with all the buzz that has connected him to the Patriots.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Although I kind of feel like Jalen Walker's floor might
- 20:44Speaker 1: be Carolina at eight. There's a lot of very.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Much a panther, But as he pointed out to me,
- 20:49Speaker 5: like that could also be a spot for Ted or
- 20:51Speaker 5: Matthew Golden Town.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and uh, and then I think Ted McMillan
- 20:55Speaker 1: is the other guy. Yeah. And I feel like as
- 20:57Speaker 1: we've come full circle here, Banks and mcmill and are
- 21:01Speaker 1: starting to some of the talk about them really falling
- 21:04Speaker 1: in this draft is starting to subside, and people are
- 21:07Speaker 1: putting them more in the categories that they were back
- 21:10Speaker 1: in January when this all began, which I think is
- 21:13Speaker 1: probably where the most accurate, Like they're probably in the
- 21:17Speaker 1: ten to fifteen range of this class. And because one's
- 21:21Speaker 1: the number one wide receiver taking Travis Hunter out of
- 21:24Speaker 1: this right, and the other is a premium position player
- 21:28Speaker 1: at left tackle, you know you could talk yourself into
- 21:31Speaker 1: either one of those guys at the back end of
- 21:34Speaker 1: the top ten.
- 21:34Speaker 5: You just worry like if those if all three of
- 21:37Speaker 5: the tackles go, do you trade down again targeting Simmons
- 21:41Speaker 5: or Connolly. Now you forced into a trade up, and
- 21:43Speaker 5: you're in a bad situation where teams know how desperate
- 21:46Speaker 5: you are, because like you might, especially if all three
- 21:49Speaker 5: of those guys going top ten. Arianta Ersery's not making
- 21:53Speaker 5: it thirty eight, and if Josh Simmons makes it thirty eight,
- 21:56Speaker 5: it meets his knees made of paper mache.
- 21:57Speaker 1: At this point, you can't take them. Yeah, so you're
- 22:00Speaker 1: really playing.
- 22:01Speaker 5: With fire at that point. The ultimate big picture. I
- 22:05Speaker 5: can't hammer this enough. By I will give them the
- 22:09Speaker 5: flexibility that maybe Ursery falls to thirty eight, maybe or
- 22:13Speaker 5: falls today two when they trade up a little bit, right,
- 22:17Speaker 5: what time do they start on Friday night?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Seven o'clock?
- 22:18Speaker 5: Yeah, if we don't know by eight thirty on Friday,
- 22:22Speaker 5: let's call it. If we don't know by eight thirty
- 22:25Speaker 5: on Friday, who the Patriots starting left tackle is, that
- 22:28Speaker 5: is a major, major, major problem. That is the one
- 22:31Speaker 5: thing that cannot happen. Trade up, trade down. Whatever, you're
- 22:34Speaker 5: gonna take a tackle at four, you're gonna move up
- 22:35Speaker 5: and take one. However you're gonna do it when the
- 22:39Speaker 5: top forty picks wrap up. You're not getting a starting
- 22:43Speaker 5: tackle after that, You're not.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, let's hold on on that because I did want
- 22:46Speaker 1: to bring that up because I that was some the
- 22:47Speaker 1: more other reporting that's also coming out. I want to
- 22:50Speaker 1: talk trades, really, you know, one more trade scenario and
- 22:54Speaker 1: then I want to talk about that and kind of
- 22:56Speaker 1: segue into that. So the other piece of information this
- 22:59Speaker 1: is from Adam Schefter, was a lifted list of teams
- 23:03Speaker 1: that would be willing to trade down from their current
- 23:06Speaker 1: pick in the first round. Now, there are a couple
- 23:08Speaker 1: of teams in the top ten that Eas said would
- 23:10Speaker 1: be willing to trade down, you know, Carolina, Jacksonville, teams
- 23:13Speaker 1: like that. But I'm ruling those teams out for what
- 23:16Speaker 1: I want to bring up here. The teams that want
- 23:18Speaker 1: to trade down that are a little bit further down
- 23:20Speaker 1: in the first round that I find interesting from a
- 23:22Speaker 1: Patriots perspective. Seattle at eighteen, it is probably a little high.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Tampa Bay at nineteen and it's a little high. Pittsburgh
- 23:29Speaker 1: at twenty one. They're not trading down or taking a quarterback.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And Minnesota at twenty four that's the one. So if
- 23:34Speaker 1: you're looking to trade back into the first round from
- 23:37Speaker 1: thirty eight, and it kind of couples with your tackle
- 23:40Speaker 1: yeh spiel just now, it does feel like Minnesota at
- 23:44Speaker 1: twenty four is the sweet spot they have?
- 23:47Speaker 3: Is it four or five picks.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I think it's five Minnesota.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they have.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Five picks and they have a lot of older players.
- 23:55Speaker 1: They have a lot of players on expensive contracts and
- 23:59Speaker 1: have a good team. Quarterback isn't one and they're trying
- 24:01Speaker 1: to well but there they have a good team.
- 24:04Speaker 5: But like they need to strengen out their russ. They
- 24:06Speaker 5: have four picks. They have twenty four, ninety seven, one
- 24:10Speaker 5: thirty nine and one eighty seven.
- 24:12Speaker 1: That's it. Yeah, that's it.
- 24:14Speaker 3: So you're you might be able to get some value there.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Maybe you can get away like the trade I look
- 24:20Speaker 5: at you're going up to twenty four. Rewind to twenty twenty.
- 24:23Speaker 5: It was twenty three for seventy one and or twenty three,
- 24:29Speaker 5: sorry for thirty seven and seventy one. That was the
- 24:31Speaker 5: Kyle Duggart trade back for the Patriots, So that was
- 24:34Speaker 5: twenty three. Vikings have twenty four, thirty seven and seventy one.
- 24:38Speaker 5: You have thirty eight and sixty nine. Can you swing
- 24:40Speaker 5: that into thirty eight one oh six because the Vikings
- 24:43Speaker 5: are just so desperate to add draft picks.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe, I don't know, maybe seventy seven. I don't
- 24:48Speaker 1: I think you're gonna have to give up a top one.
- 24:50Speaker 3: You probably are.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Maybe maybe there's a way to do a pick swap
- 24:53Speaker 5: or something in there, but like, that's the sweet spot
- 24:55Speaker 5: to me, and I think you'll probably be able to get.
- 24:57Speaker 1: A tackle at that point.
- 24:58Speaker 5: You might not get to choose, but you should be
- 25:01Speaker 5: able to get a tackle. That that's the sweet spot
- 25:03Speaker 5: to trade up. And then the other one for me
- 25:04Speaker 5: is if they're not feeling as aggressive, those teams late
- 25:08Speaker 5: in the first are always looking to trade back. So
- 25:10Speaker 5: this is like twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine to
- 25:13Speaker 5: thirty Ravens, Lions, Commanders Bills. Right, there's a trade a
- 25:17Speaker 5: couple of years ago between the Jaguars and the uh
- 25:21Speaker 5: Bucks that was twenty seven for thirty three, one oh
- 25:27Speaker 5: eight and one eighty. So it's a little different because
- 25:31Speaker 5: you have thirty eight not thirty three, but maybe one
- 25:34Speaker 5: eighty becomes like one forty four, and now you don't
- 25:37Speaker 5: have to give up any top one hundred picks to
- 25:39Speaker 5: move back into the first round. You can't do that
- 25:41Speaker 5: for twenty four. You're gonna have to do that for
- 25:43Speaker 5: a later pick, and hope one of those teams that
- 25:45Speaker 5: was in conference championship games will to move out the
- 25:47Speaker 5: highest you can maybe do that as the Rams of
- 25:49Speaker 5: twenty six. But if you want to tackle, the other
- 25:51Speaker 5: thing to consider, the Texans are probably a tackle team
- 25:55Speaker 5: of twenty five. They could be their an offensive line
- 25:57Speaker 5: team for sure. This could also be that thing where
- 25:59Speaker 5: if you took a ten and then you want to
- 26:00Speaker 5: grab a guard, the Texans are an offensive line team.
- 26:04Speaker 5: The Rams might be an offensive line team at twenty six,
- 26:08Speaker 5: and then you might get Obviously, the Chiefs of thirty
- 26:10Speaker 5: one are a tackle team, so there are some teams
- 26:13Speaker 5: in there you may need to jump if you want
- 26:14Speaker 5: to get a certain guy.
- 26:15Speaker 1: So I feel like this is this is coupled with
- 26:18Speaker 1: a lot of the other reporting that kind of makes
- 26:21Speaker 1: this point even more important from a Patriots perspective, which
- 26:25Speaker 1: is the drop off that tackle. Yeah, and this is
- 26:27Speaker 1: something we've been talking about. It's reflected in all of
- 26:30Speaker 1: our you know, pre draft coverage of this of this
- 26:34Speaker 1: draft and of this class. There's really let's call it six,
- 26:38Speaker 1: but it's really five.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Is five in a pretty expensive lottery ticket?
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and Josh Simmons, Yeah, right, So we're talking Campbell,
- 26:47Speaker 1: Membu Banks, Connerly, Ursery, Simmons, right in some sort of order,
- 26:54Speaker 1: put them in whatever order you want it in terms
- 26:56Speaker 1: of talent, but those six tackles are really the only
- 27:00Speaker 1: starting caliber left tackles in this draft. And if you
- 27:04Speaker 1: miss out on one of those six guys, you are
- 27:06Speaker 1: not getting a rookie starter.
- 27:08Speaker 5: You are getting somebody who at best is competing with Viderian.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Low and is in a developmental phase of his career.
- 27:14Speaker 1: You're getting a Anthony Belton, a Charles Grant. You are
- 27:18Speaker 1: trying to take Ozzie Trapilo and seeing if he can
- 27:21Speaker 1: play on the left.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Side like you were John Rivers, Jan Travis.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Right, you're talking about taking guys that are projects. For
- 27:27Speaker 1: the most part, Tapillo is better than a project. But
- 27:30Speaker 1: he's a right tackle. Right.
- 27:31Speaker 5: It's not just we will break it down. We'll talk
- 27:34Speaker 5: about day one starters and year one starters. Day one
- 27:36Speaker 5: guy comes in right away, starts year one is you know,
- 27:39Speaker 5: maybe he's not gonna start week one of his rookie year,
- 27:41Speaker 5: but you can start eventually.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:42Speaker 5: I don't think there's any year one starters after ur Sery.
- 27:46Speaker 5: You're talking about guys that are long term, multi year projects.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So if the Patriots, if you're of the thought and
- 27:53Speaker 1: full disclosure, I think Will Campbell is the best player
- 27:56Speaker 1: on the board at four, and I think you should
- 27:57Speaker 1: just take Will Campbell. So I'm right there with Will Campbell.
- 28:01Speaker 1: But I hear it a lot. And if you're the
- 28:04Speaker 1: thought that he's not quote unquote the best player available,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and you're more or less reaching on a position of
- 28:12Speaker 1: need by taking Campbell. If you prefer you know, Genty,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I prefer Genty, but he's a running back, right, but
- 28:18Speaker 1: to him inside, you know Jalen Walker, Mason Graham, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 1: Tyler Warren, whoever, if you prefer somebody else at that spot.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The only way that you can realistically come out of
- 28:30Speaker 1: this and at least have our approval. I think I
- 28:32Speaker 1: don't have to talk for you or speak for you,
- 28:34Speaker 1: but based off what you've said to have our approval
- 28:36Speaker 1: of this draft is if you trade back into the
- 28:39Speaker 1: first round to get the tackle. You cannot come away
- 28:42Speaker 1: from this draft without an answer at left tackle.
- 28:44Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not gonna fault them if they get
- 28:45Speaker 5: the guy at thirty eight, but you have to get that.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Yes, if they come out.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Of this draft out a left tackle, it's bad draft, right, So.
- 28:51Speaker 1: They need somebody out of that group of six and
- 28:54Speaker 1: I we both kind of feel like it should be
- 28:56Speaker 1: the group of five without Simmons.
- 28:58Speaker 5: I like, And let me clear about this, I like Simmons.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I know I probably came off as somebody who didn't
- 29:04Speaker 5: like him as a player earlier, and I apologize for that. Yeah,
- 29:07Speaker 5: I like him as a player. And I know that
- 29:09Speaker 5: the reporting out there right now is like he's healing well.
- 29:13Speaker 5: It's always the next time you hear pre draft that
- 29:15Speaker 5: a players not doing well injury wise will be the
- 29:17Speaker 5: first time, right, But I I the Malcolm Mitchell komp
- 29:22Speaker 5: is there for a reason. Maybe I should use Malcolm
- 29:24Speaker 5: Mitchell instead of DOMINICQ Keasley. Yeah, because I think he's
- 29:26Speaker 5: a good player. But like if you get eight to
- 29:30Speaker 5: ten really good games out of him, but then he's
- 29:32Speaker 5: hurt and he just never really becomes a regular NFL player,
- 29:36Speaker 5: That's what I worry about, And that would be a
- 29:38Speaker 5: bad pick. That would be a worse pick than taking
- 29:40Speaker 5: a guy who moves inside of guard because at least
- 29:42Speaker 5: that guy's playing, which I don't think is gonna happen
- 29:44Speaker 5: with Campbell by the way, to be clear, but like
- 29:47Speaker 5: I yeah, you said it very well. You can't miss
- 29:50Speaker 5: and to people say, well, you know, Arianta Air series
- 29:52Speaker 5: projected at thirty eight. You don't need to worry about
- 29:54Speaker 5: it too much. And I don't think Connolly is going
- 29:56Speaker 5: to go in the first round. Go back to last year.
- 30:00Speaker 5: Here is a good tackle class with a ton of depth,
- 30:02Speaker 5: and we were sitting here saying, this is great. They
- 30:04Speaker 5: can get Drake May, they may even be able to
- 30:06Speaker 5: get a receiver, and still with their third pick, get
- 30:08Speaker 5: a starting tackle.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And what happened.
- 30:10Speaker 5: These guys all went around around plus earlier than we
- 30:15Speaker 5: thought they would. Because there's there are less than thirty
- 30:18Speaker 5: two human beings on the planet. They can play left
- 30:21Speaker 5: tackle at a starting caliber level in the NFL less
- 30:24Speaker 5: than thirty two human beings on the planet. If you
- 30:27Speaker 5: have a chance to get one consensus boards, be damned,
- 30:31Speaker 5: you're gonna take them if you need them.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So URSE three might be projected a forty eight. Right now.
- 30:37Speaker 5: If these guys start to go right, let's say you
- 30:40Speaker 5: trade back. Campbell goes I could even see him going
- 30:43Speaker 5: to the Jaguars, right, Campbell goes five, Member goes seven
- 30:45Speaker 5: to the Jets, Calvin Banks goes in the top twelve, right,
- 30:50Speaker 5: or maybe fourteen. You have the Niners at eleven. They
- 30:53Speaker 5: need to tackle now they're flying. You think the chief
- 30:56Speaker 5: Connory goes to the Texans. You think the Chiefs are
- 30:59Speaker 5: gonna sit down thirty one and say, man with Patrick
- 31:02Speaker 5: Mahomes blind side's a mess. But Ariana, hey he's you know,
- 31:06Speaker 5: he's a projected second round pick.
- 31:08Speaker 1: We should probably take somebody else. No, they're gonna take Ursery. Yeah,
- 31:11Speaker 1: they're gonna.
- 31:12Speaker 5: Take them because you're not getting a guy if not.
- 31:14Speaker 5: So this could actually be an interesting exercise.
- 31:17Speaker 1: We we you just saw this last year, like right,
- 31:20Speaker 1: the tackle run happened last year. You know, Tyler, can.
- 31:23Speaker 5: You pull up I just want to try something for
- 31:25Speaker 5: an experiment. Can you pull up like the list of
- 31:28Speaker 5: tackles that were taken last year? Yeah, we just need
- 31:31Speaker 5: or pull or pull up the mock draft database, pull
- 31:35Speaker 5: up last year's tackle list. I'll pull up the tackles
- 31:37Speaker 5: from last year. I just want to see something I've
- 31:39Speaker 5: been meaning to do.
- 31:39Speaker 6: This.
- 31:39Speaker 1: We'll do it live on the air. We're doing this
- 31:41Speaker 1: live on the Yeah, you see, you see what I'm
- 31:43Speaker 1: going for. We're getting the sausage made here. Yes, so
- 31:47Speaker 1: I can't type on this smaller keyboard though, So this
- 31:50Speaker 1: this could be a problem.
- 31:52Speaker 5: Okay, fine, I'll just do it all right. So Joel
- 31:55Speaker 5: last year was seven on the consensus board.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Let me do it on my phone.
- 31:58Speaker 5: On your phone, okay, Census, you have the consensus board
- 32:01Speaker 5: from last year.
- 32:02Speaker 3: I just just just and again. We're doing this live.
- 32:04Speaker 5: So maybe this won't work out for me, but I
- 32:06Speaker 5: think this is going to prove my point if I
- 32:07Speaker 5: remember correctly. So Joe All went fifth last year. Where
- 32:12Speaker 5: was he on the consensus board last year?
- 32:13Speaker 1: Seven? Seven? Okay, so he went high and expected JC
- 32:17Speaker 1: Latham he was twelve on the consensus board. He went seventh.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Ol Lufashanham eleventh and he went all right, that's a draw.
- 32:25Speaker 5: Fuanga thirteenth, he went fourteenth, Right there. Marius Mims twenty first,
- 32:30Speaker 5: went eighteenth.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Here we go. Jordan Morgan thirty fifth, went twenty fifth.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Tyler Geyton twenty nine.
- 32:37Speaker 3: That's a draw.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Patrick Paul forty four, All right.
- 32:40Speaker 5: He went fifty five. He went a little lower, but
- 32:41Speaker 5: people were low on Patrick Paul, Blake Fisher seventy eight,
- 32:45Speaker 5: fifty nine. Roger Rosengarten sixty four, sixty two, okay, that's close.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Kingsley thirty seven. He later was ranked yeah, he went later.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Caiten Wallace, we know when he went sixty eight a
- 33:03Speaker 5: metagi I think was outside of the top one hundred.
- 33:05Speaker 3: He went seventy five.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Del Mar Glaze, if I remember correctly, was somewhere in
- 33:10Speaker 5: the one fifties. He went seventy seven.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and then uh, you know, depending on where he plays.
- 33:15Speaker 1: But Troy Fottenu from Washington when he was eighteen on
- 33:18Speaker 1: the consensus board, I mean some people see him as
- 33:21Speaker 1: a guard.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Oh he's probably not. I have the the just the
- 33:23Speaker 5: list of tackles up. He must be included.
- 33:25Speaker 1: But the point being, like the top tackles, it's the
- 33:27Speaker 1: day two stuff might be to get a little bit wonky,
- 33:29Speaker 1: but you know, really the guys that they were hoping
- 33:32Speaker 1: were We're going to fall to them, were you know
- 33:34Speaker 1: the guitans, you know, Jordan Morgan potentially like it was.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And there was that run. Yeah, and there was that run.
- 33:41Speaker 1: So I s isn't even shallower tackle.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Right, There's no reason to think that won't happen again.
- 33:46Speaker 5: If anything, I think the signs point to the run
- 33:49Speaker 5: being more aggressive.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I did. This is my biggest fear about this draft
- 33:53Speaker 1: because I hear people that say they should take the
- 33:56Speaker 1: best player available at four and then aggressive and try
- 34:01Speaker 1: to get back into the first round to get the tackle,
- 34:04Speaker 1: so that you address the needs in the right order,
- 34:06Speaker 1: right in where the value is on the board. And
- 34:09Speaker 1: I understand that that's a great in theory. It's great
- 34:12Speaker 1: when we're all on the PFF mock draft simulator and
- 34:16Speaker 1: forcing trades right like, it's a great concept, But actually
- 34:20Speaker 1: going out and executing the concept they found out last
- 34:22Speaker 1: year was a lot harder than you want it to be.
- 34:26Speaker 1: And I've said this multiple times, but there's varying reporting
- 34:30Speaker 1: on whether it was for a receiver or it was
- 34:33Speaker 1: for a tackle, But there is reporting from multiple outlets
- 34:37Speaker 1: at this point that they tried to make this trade
- 34:39Speaker 1: last year. They tried to trade back into the first
- 34:41Speaker 1: round last year. I think it for a tackle and receiver.
- 34:44Speaker 1: They tried a few times, and they got rebuffed. They
- 34:46Speaker 1: got turned down on the trade. So if you get
- 34:49Speaker 1: through this draft, and let's just say for argument's sake,
- 34:52Speaker 1: that they take Jalen Walker at four overall because they
- 34:54Speaker 1: feel like Jalen Walker is the best overall player on
- 34:58Speaker 1: their board over Will Campbell, and they get to the bottom
- 35:01Speaker 1: half of the first round, and they called Minnesota, and
- 35:04Speaker 1: Minnesota doesn't want their deal, and they call, you know, Buffalo,
- 35:08Speaker 1: who's not gonna trade with them when they wouldn't trade
- 35:10Speaker 1: with them last year.
- 35:10Speaker 5: But they roll out because the Bills made a very
- 35:14Speaker 5: stupid trade with the Billings.
- 35:15Speaker 1: They made the stupid trade with the Chiefs because they trade.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's a good point, yes, fair.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Kansas City says, well, why would we trade you the
- 35:23Speaker 1: tackle when we need the tackle. We're just gonna take
- 35:26Speaker 1: the tackle right again. They try to go all up
- 35:29Speaker 1: and down. Philadelphia says, nope, we we have a guy
- 35:31Speaker 1: where Philadelphia, we know how to scout better than anybody else.
- 35:34Speaker 1: We have a guy we love here. We're taking him right.
- 35:36Speaker 1: You go all through all this whole scenario, and then
- 35:39Speaker 1: all of a sudden you are left again in a
- 35:41Speaker 1: position where you don't have a tackle to take at
- 35:44Speaker 1: your thirty eighth overall pick, and then you're in the
- 35:47Speaker 1: third round again looking around.
- 35:48Speaker 5: For tackles, and Drake May is getting clocked from the
- 35:50Speaker 5: blind side time and time again for another five months.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Yeah, So that that's all the arguments.
- 35:55Speaker 5: Can I just can I just say that, like, because
- 35:57Speaker 5: I think this has gotten lost as we've gotten into
- 35:59Speaker 5: the weeds.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, this is all. It all goes back to Drake May.
- 36:03Speaker 5: For the people that think we just like love Will Campbell,
- 36:05Speaker 5: we think he's his generational prospect, that's not necessarily the case.
- 36:08Speaker 5: It's about how do you invest in your best asset?
- 36:12Speaker 5: How do you as the Patriots? And that's what makes
- 36:15Speaker 5: him or whoever the top tackle.
- 36:16Speaker 1: On your board is.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Honestly, if you want to tell me it's armand Membu,
- 36:19Speaker 5: this take still applies to you. Just replace Campbell with Membo.
- 36:22Speaker 5: If you think it's Banks, you can do the same thing.
- 36:24Speaker 5: Hell if you think it's Josh Simmons. Again, I'm worried
- 36:26Speaker 5: about the injury, but fine, I'll have the conversation. It's
- 36:29Speaker 5: all about how do you invest in your best asset.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Some people might tell you that doing that is wide receiver,
- 36:34Speaker 5: but one the wide receivers at the top this draft
- 36:37Speaker 5: or worse than the tackles. And it's that you know
- 36:40Speaker 5: the meme that you love that you definitely originally created
- 36:43Speaker 5: and didn't steal from somebody, the.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Old Joe Burrow Chase. I created this version myself, but
- 36:51Speaker 1: it was I will admit that it was stolen from
- 36:54Speaker 1: the Jamar Chase Penny Sewell discourse. But the tech McMillan,
- 36:58Speaker 1: Will Campbell meme yeah is copywritten to me. There you go.
- 37:02Speaker 5: So but the point being like, that's what this all
- 37:04Speaker 5: comes back and I feel like.
- 37:05Speaker 3: We've lost sight of that. Yeah, but that's what this
- 37:07Speaker 3: all comes back to.
- 37:09Speaker 5: How do you what makes him the best pick is
- 37:11Speaker 5: it's what's best for Drake May. And what's best for
- 37:14Speaker 5: Drake May is what's best for the football team. If
- 37:17Speaker 5: there was like an apex receiver in this draft, right,
- 37:19Speaker 5: if Luther Burden had.
- 37:21Speaker 3: The jump that we thought he was gonna have from twenty.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Twenty three to Marvin Harrison Junior was in this right,
- 37:26Speaker 5: we might be having a different conversation even though tackle
- 37:29Speaker 5: is a more valuable position, if that guy was like
- 37:31Speaker 5: that much better. Right, But the way this board looks,
- 37:35Speaker 5: getting a left tackle is the best possible thing you
- 37:38Speaker 5: can do for Drake May at this point. That is
- 37:40Speaker 5: how you invest in your best asset, and that that's
- 37:44Speaker 5: ultimately what this all comes back to. I'm just not
- 37:46Speaker 5: taking a pick that helps Drake May the most.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I think it's extremely risky and right, it's a big
- 37:51Speaker 1: chance to say we're just gonna trade.
- 37:53Speaker 5: Back exactly, so that that's the point, like you miss
- 37:56Speaker 5: on tackle, not only did you not help Drake May
- 37:59Speaker 5: as much as you can, and you might not help him.
- 38:01Speaker 1: At all in a way where you really need to
- 38:03Speaker 1: help him out. So last bit of news here, and
- 38:06Speaker 1: then I want to do our top ten box and
- 38:08Speaker 1: then we're going to open the show up to the
- 38:09Speaker 1: calls in the emails. I promise there's a lot of
- 38:12Speaker 1: reporting now from multiple sources. Adams are not my sources,
- 38:16Speaker 1: like multiple reports. Adam Schefter had it, Breer had it,
- 38:22Speaker 1: I think Jordan Schultz had it that Kaishan Boody could
- 38:27Speaker 1: be available via trade. Now, there's a couple of different
- 38:32Speaker 1: I guess avenues to look at this. The one that
- 38:36Speaker 1: I keep coming back to is that if they're going
- 38:38Speaker 1: to trade one of these younger receivers that they currently
- 38:41Speaker 1: have on the roster, and let's assume they don't want
- 38:43Speaker 1: to trade Pop Douglas because he's probably the best of
- 38:45Speaker 1: the group and they don't want to trade him. Between Booty,
- 38:49Speaker 1: Polk and Baker, there's no doubt that Booty has the
- 38:52Speaker 1: most value in a trade right. He has proven NFL
- 38:55Speaker 1: production last year almost six hundred receiving yards. He has
- 39:00Speaker 1: actual NFL resume as of last year. You're not getting
- 39:04Speaker 1: anything for Polkan Baker at this point. They they you're
- 39:08Speaker 1: those are players that you're gonna get a conditional seventh
- 39:10Speaker 1: round pick because you were gonna cut him anyways like that.
- 39:12Speaker 1: That that's the type of thing going at There might
- 39:15Speaker 1: be a little bit of you know, is Kaishan Boody
- 39:18Speaker 1: of Rabel program guy. You know, I think that that's
- 39:21Speaker 1: potentially an issue here as well. But when you look
- 39:25Speaker 1: at it to me, and we've talked a little bit
- 39:28Speaker 1: about this in the past in terms of the sacrificial
- 39:32Speaker 1: X receiver in Josh McDaniel's offense, basically just the guy
- 39:36Speaker 1: that's clearing out coverage on the outside. He's gonna run
- 39:39Speaker 1: a bunch of nine routes. He's gonna try to get
- 39:41Speaker 1: behind the defense. If he does, every once in a
- 39:43Speaker 1: while he might get targeted. But just like Kaysehan Boody
- 39:46Speaker 1: last year, you're not talking about a high volume of targets.
- 39:50Speaker 1: You're you're really running the offense through the z, the slot,
- 39:54Speaker 1: the tight ends, the running backs like that. That's where
- 39:57Speaker 1: the offense is going to live in the middle of
- 39:58Speaker 1: the field, and that's exactly I think what Josh mcdaniels's
- 40:01Speaker 1: offense has been notoriously, I do think that it's a
- 40:04Speaker 1: good fit with Drake may and the way he can
- 40:05Speaker 1: throw the ball through the middle of the field with
- 40:08Speaker 1: zip and with accuracy and anticipation. So you look at
- 40:11Speaker 1: the way they want to build the offense. To me,
- 40:14Speaker 1: Kai Shan Body is a perfectly fine sacrificial X receiver.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Like if he's the guy that's just gonna run nine
- 40:21Speaker 1: routes and he's every once in a while he's gonna
- 40:23Speaker 1: sneak behind Derek Stingley for a forty five yard touchdown
- 40:27Speaker 1: at the end of the half, Like, that's what that
- 40:29Speaker 1: role is for. That role is not for putting a
- 40:32Speaker 1: star receiver in that role that is going to emerge
- 40:35Speaker 1: into a high volume player. It could be you could pivot,
- 40:38Speaker 1: but if they want to build the offense the way
- 40:40Speaker 1: that they have in the past, that is the role.
- 40:42Speaker 1: So I am a little bit surprised that they don't
- 40:44Speaker 1: see a fit in that particular role for Kaishan Boody.
- 40:49Speaker 1: And I would just say, if you're gonna trade Kishan
- 40:51Speaker 1: Boody and then you're just gonna use a not you know,
- 40:57Speaker 1: a top fifty pick, let's call it a top seventy
- 40:59Speaker 1: five pick on an ex receiver. The most likely scenario
- 41:05Speaker 1: is that you're just going to replace Kaishan Boody with
- 41:07Speaker 1: a draft pick. Like, maybe you go in it into
- 41:09Speaker 1: it and you think that there's a little bit more
- 41:11Speaker 1: ceiling to the player that you're going to draft in
- 41:13Speaker 1: that role at seventy seven or one oh six or
- 41:16Speaker 1: whatever the case. Horton, Right, you know, maybe you feel
- 41:21Speaker 1: like there's a little bit more ceiling, or maybe you
- 41:23Speaker 1: feel like the guy is a better guy. Right, He's
- 41:25Speaker 1: just a better football character, dude. But in general, like
- 41:29Speaker 1: I feel like you're just throwing another dart at it
- 41:32Speaker 1: being Kaishan Boudi or Jayvon Baker emerging or whatever. I
- 41:36Speaker 1: would at that point just hold on to Kishan Booty
- 41:39Speaker 1: into camp and see what he looks like in his
- 41:42Speaker 1: third training camp now with the Patriots. So I'm a
- 41:45Speaker 1: little bit surprised that they are so ready potentially to
- 41:50Speaker 1: move on from Kishan Boody. But I do understand that
- 41:53Speaker 1: he probably presents the most trade value out of anybody
- 41:57Speaker 1: in that group. So maybe that's all it is. Maybe
- 41:59Speaker 1: it's just simply we can't get anything for these other guys,
- 42:02Speaker 1: but we might actually be able to get a return
- 42:04Speaker 1: for Keisha on Boody.
- 42:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 5: I mean I think they trade anybody if they you know,
- 42:07Speaker 5: if they got the right offer, I wouldn't.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I don't think that move's coming.
- 42:11Speaker 5: Like before the draft though, that's I bring him in
- 42:13Speaker 5: a camp, bring everybody in a camp and see what's
- 42:15Speaker 5: going on. You still have that extra roster spot of
- 42:16Speaker 5: Stefan Diggs opens on pup so look, could I.
- 42:20Speaker 3: See him getting traded.
- 42:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd like them to at least bring him in
- 42:23Speaker 5: a camp, especially if they get a guy like one
- 42:25Speaker 5: oh four. Right, Yeah, that's an open competition between that
- 42:28Speaker 5: guy and Booty. To me, that guy's not a lock
- 42:29Speaker 5: for anything, so I understand seeing what he's worth.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I don't think he's a guy.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Like you have to keep.
- 42:34Speaker 5: He's not untouchable. No, but I don't think they need
- 42:36Speaker 5: to be in a rush to trade him either.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just a nice role for him. And I
- 42:40Speaker 1: look at this group of X receivers in the draft,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I don't I'm not crazy about any of them, Like
- 42:44Speaker 1: I don't love I tried all offseason, all draft season
- 42:48Speaker 1: to find an X to fall in love with, to
- 42:50Speaker 1: be like, this guy is gonna be my guy in
- 42:52Speaker 1: the prototype that they need, you know, somebody with some
- 42:54Speaker 1: size and some speed on the outside. I think Trey
- 42:57Speaker 1: Harris probably came the closest to being that guy, but
- 43:00Speaker 1: he doesn't quite have the top end speed that I
- 43:02Speaker 1: would really like. But I could see him being this
- 43:06Speaker 1: type of player and being successful there. Jayden Higgins, I
- 43:10Speaker 1: just don't think he plays to the athleticism that he
- 43:12Speaker 1: tested at at the Combine. I don't think he plays
- 43:15Speaker 1: to a sub four five forty type of guy. I
- 43:17Speaker 1: think he's more of a mid four to fives guy
- 43:19Speaker 1: on tape. I don't think he really runs by people
- 43:22Speaker 1: very much on the outside. That doesn't mean he's going
- 43:25Speaker 1: to be a bad player. I just don't love him.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I don't love him, especially at thirty eight, so I
- 43:29Speaker 1: had a tough time with that. I've kind of come
- 43:31Speaker 1: around to cash on Booty competing for that X receiver
- 43:34Speaker 1: spot under the assumption that it's going to be a
- 43:38Speaker 1: low volume role, like under the assumption that they're really
- 43:41Speaker 1: not going to feature that spot in the Josh McDaniels offense.
- 43:45Speaker 1: All Right, so that's where the news stands right now.
- 43:47Speaker 1: A lot of trade rumors, rumblings things like that about
- 43:51Speaker 1: draft picks moving, a lot of ash and gent rumblings,
- 43:55Speaker 1: and that booty trade also coming up in multiple spots.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Let's do our top ten mocked and now we can
- 44:01Speaker 1: go pretty quickly through some of these because they're kind
- 44:03Speaker 1: of mine at least at the top, are pretty chalk.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I feel would I
- 44:07Speaker 1: do the one I publish or should I just like
- 44:09Speaker 1: do this live on the air. Whatever you want to do,
- 44:11Speaker 1: it's your mocker. I don't do the updates we've gotten since. Okay,
- 44:15Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna start. Yeah, I'm gonna go cam
- 44:18Speaker 1: Ward at one, yep, Travis Hunter at two, Abdul Carter
- 44:21Speaker 1: at three.
- 44:22Speaker 3: I am going to agree with you.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't see that changing. I think that that's
- 44:28Speaker 1: been locked in. I think we're gonna find out, like
- 44:31Speaker 1: we always do, after the draft, that dad has been
- 44:34Speaker 1: locked in for like six months.
- 44:36Speaker 3: Can I give you a tape? Can I give you
- 44:37Speaker 3: a take?
- 44:38Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 44:39Speaker 5: So both those teams obviously will need quarterbacks now, right,
- 44:42Speaker 5: the Browns and the Giants. I think we're both candidates
- 44:43Speaker 5: to trade up. The Browns are the more interesting one
- 44:46Speaker 5: to me because there's two scenarios that are fascinating.
- 44:48Speaker 1: One they trade up. I think Jalen Milroe has a
- 44:51Speaker 1: good shot to be a first round pick. Yep.
- 44:53Speaker 5: And Tommy Reeves, who's the ocat in Cleveland, was the
- 44:56Speaker 5: oc at Alabama twenty twenty three when Miller had a
- 44:59Speaker 5: breakout year.
- 44:59Speaker 1: I could seem like him.
- 45:00Speaker 3: That's one scenario. You want something that's so Browns it hurts.
- 45:06Speaker 5: So gm Andrew Berry had set after the Colorado Pro
- 45:09Speaker 5: Day watching Travis Hunter Shudur Sanders, man, I wish I
- 45:12Speaker 5: could have them both to the Browns jump the Steelers
- 45:16Speaker 5: at twenty one, take care, take Hunter two drump jump
- 45:20Speaker 5: the Steelers at twenty one.
- 45:22Speaker 1: And take Shudur Sanders at like eighteen or nineth The Browns. Yeah,
- 45:25Speaker 1: the Browns. That makes the most sense for them. That
- 45:28Speaker 1: would be now.
- 45:29Speaker 5: So brown And this is not me saying it would work,
- 45:32Speaker 5: but it would be so brown.
- 45:33Speaker 1: That that I feel like And it kind of goes
- 45:35Speaker 1: back to what we were talking about with the Patriots
- 45:39Speaker 1: potentially targeting a different player than coming up for the tackle.
- 45:44Speaker 1: In this from the second round, it's it's trying to
- 45:46Speaker 1: have your cake and eat it too, it really is.
- 45:48Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, well, we know Travis Hunter is a
- 45:51Speaker 1: much better player, you know, grades out as a much
- 45:53Speaker 1: better player than Shador Sanders, but we're desperate for the quarterback.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take Travis
- 45:58Speaker 1: Hunter at two, then we're gonna trade out to twenty,
- 46:00Speaker 1: and we're gonna draft sha Door Sanders, and then we're
- 46:02Speaker 1: gonna come out of this draft with Travis Hunter and
- 46:04Speaker 1: Shador Sanders. On the surface, that sounds like an awesome plan.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Like everybody in Cleveland would sign up for that plan
- 46:11Speaker 1: right now. If I told you with one hundred percent
- 46:13Speaker 1: guarantee that they were gonna be able to pull that off,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I would just have a ton of reservations, more even
- 46:19Speaker 1: more so than I do with the Patriots as a
- 46:21Speaker 1: Browns fan that's been scarred for years and years of
- 46:23Speaker 1: them screwing up drafts. But they would actually be able
- 46:26Speaker 1: to pull something like that, doing.
- 46:27Speaker 5: Something gimmicky like that. Doesn't that feel like and I think,
- 46:30Speaker 5: better quarterback? But doesn't that feel like Man's ellish?
- 46:33Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean it feels it feels like but it
- 46:35Speaker 1: also feels so Cleveland. Brown's like Butcher and not be
- 46:37Speaker 1: able to do it and not be able to pull
- 46:39Speaker 1: it off.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 46:40Speaker 5: So well, if if the league is as low on
- 46:42Speaker 5: Shoudar as some reports suggest, some of it is bad,
- 46:45Speaker 5: then and then the Browns are just trying to fly
- 46:47Speaker 5: up for him, that would be pretty Browns too.
- 46:49Speaker 1: If Shador slides, and I don't want to spend too
- 46:51Speaker 1: much time on Shador, but if Shador slides, let's say
- 46:53Speaker 1: he slides out of the first round. Yeah. The number
- 46:55Speaker 1: one reason I feel like that Shador will slide out
- 46:57Speaker 1: of the first round is because of how he handled
- 47:00Speaker 1: the process, not because of the film. I think he's
- 47:03Speaker 1: a late first round quarterback on film, but he treated
- 47:06Speaker 1: himself like he was a top five pick. He didn't
- 47:09Speaker 1: throw at the combine. He had a showcase pro day
- 47:12Speaker 1: where he threw just like Jay you know, Jenden Daniels,
- 47:16Speaker 1: Drake Man, Caleb Williams did last year. He didn't work out,
- 47:20Speaker 1: didn't test, he didn't interview particularly well. If you read
- 47:24Speaker 1: around about some of the reports about his interviews, and
- 47:28Speaker 1: a little bit of a sense of entitlement, and you know,
- 47:31Speaker 1: just a little bit more entitlement is the best way
- 47:33Speaker 1: to put it. He treated himself like he was Caleb
- 47:37Speaker 1: Williams and was going to be the number one overall pick.
- 47:39Speaker 1: If he had went into the process with some you know,
- 47:43Speaker 1: self awareness of what he really was worth in the draft,
- 47:47Speaker 1: then I think he would have been a much higher
- 47:49Speaker 1: draft pick. But he just hasn't handled the process great.
- 47:51Speaker 1: From what everybody is saying, you know, we'll see. Maybe
- 47:54Speaker 1: that is the Pittsburgh Steelers trying to put out, you know,
- 47:57Speaker 1: all this information as smoke screen to get him to
- 47:59Speaker 1: fall down the boord to them at twenty one. So
- 48:01Speaker 1: Cam wored Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter. Number four overall, the
- 48:05Speaker 1: New England Patriots I have selecting Will Campbell. I think
- 48:07Speaker 1: that's just yeah, it's Will Campbell versus the field at
- 48:10Speaker 1: this point. Number five the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is where
- 48:14Speaker 1: it gets really interesting with the Jaguars. Ideally, and I
- 48:19Speaker 1: went back and forth with this, I believe ideally the
- 48:23Speaker 1: Jaguars would trade out of this pick, yep, just like
- 48:26Speaker 1: the Patriots would probably ideality at four, I think they
- 48:28Speaker 1: would try to trade out. Maybe it's with the Chicago Bears.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Maybe those two swap because I think they want different
- 48:34Speaker 1: players and they want them to go in the right
- 48:36Speaker 1: range of the draft. Right, So the Jacksonville Jaguars, in
- 48:39Speaker 1: my mind want Ted McMillan. They're a tech McMillan team.
- 48:43Speaker 1: They want Tech McMillan. I think from two angles. One
- 48:47Speaker 1: you pair him with Brian Thomas Junior. That's a great
- 48:49Speaker 1: one too, tandem for Liam Cohne to work with. The
- 48:53Speaker 1: reporting out of Jacksonville is that they want they're targeting
- 48:56Speaker 1: touchdowns in this draft, right, They're talking offensive skill play
- 49:00Speaker 1: is big. They have the nerd. I don't think the
- 49:03Speaker 1: NERD's taking a running back. I'm just gonna stick to that.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I'm going to stick to that premise. I don't think
- 49:07Speaker 1: he's taking a running back. So if you add that
- 49:09Speaker 1: all up, Teed McMillan he could profile for Gladstone very
- 49:15Speaker 1: similarly to Puka Nikua right where he's not a forty
- 49:18Speaker 1: time tester, but he's fast in game. He's fast with
- 49:21Speaker 1: the ball in his hands. He's got great body control,
- 49:24Speaker 1: he's got great ball skills, Like there's a lot of
- 49:26Speaker 1: Pukah to his game. Yeah, So Jacksonville had five overall
- 49:30Speaker 1: unable to make a trade down. Here, I have them
- 49:33Speaker 1: taking Teed McMillan.
- 49:34Speaker 5: So I'll get a little creative here. I have them
- 49:37Speaker 5: trading back as well, all of them trading back. I
- 49:39Speaker 5: think that they put, you know, on the chart, on
- 49:42Speaker 5: the trade chart, the math tells the nerd to make
- 49:44Speaker 5: the trade. The Bears move up and get ash and Genty.
- 49:46Speaker 1: It's fair. I had that. I went back and forth
- 49:51Speaker 1: with that. I think that's the most the sense you
- 49:53Speaker 1: know that this trade is coming. I feel like it
- 49:55Speaker 1: is out there that there's this big trade coming that
- 49:58Speaker 1: a lot of people have been teasing. And it sounds
- 50:00Speaker 1: a lot like that. It could be the two of
- 50:03Speaker 1: them swapping there. So right now we have cam Ward, Travis, Hunter, Abdua,
- 50:09Speaker 1: Carter Will Campbell as the top four. I have Tech
- 50:12Speaker 1: McMillan five to the Jaguars. You have Ashon denty five
- 50:15Speaker 1: to the Bears in a trade down with Jacksonville or
- 50:17Speaker 1: trade up with Jacksonville. Six. Overall, this one's a wildcard
- 50:21Speaker 1: to me a little bit too, especially if Genty goes
- 50:24Speaker 1: at five. I think it's between armand Membu and Mason Graham.
- 50:28Speaker 1: I think both those guys have been linked to Vegas enough.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I went with armand Membu here. I just feel like
- 50:36Speaker 1: they are going to want to build in the trenches.
- 50:39Speaker 1: You get Colton Miller. I think they'll satisfy Colton Miller.
- 50:42Speaker 1: They'll figure it out with him. Armond Membu's your right tackle,
- 50:45Speaker 1: Colton Miller's your left tackle. Get back to Pete Carroll,
- 50:48Speaker 1: ground and pound offense with a good offensive line. Armond
- 50:52Speaker 1: Membu six overall to the Raiders can have some fun
- 50:54Speaker 1: with this one. Now.
- 50:55Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think this is what's gonna happen. I'm
- 50:57Speaker 5: just throw a snary out for you. Tom Brady's in charge.
- 51:02Speaker 5: He saw for years and years and years what not
- 51:04Speaker 5: investing in the wide receiver position does to a quarterback. Yep, right,
- 51:07Speaker 5: Pete Carroll's in charge. He wants to throw the ball
- 51:09Speaker 5: around the yard. And Gino Smith, who's got a good
- 51:12Speaker 5: deep ball. I'm not talking about Tet McMillan.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Evan, Matthew Golden.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so he stole my thunder.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Is that what you're talking about? Yeah?
- 51:23Speaker 5: Sixteen years ago, Michael Crabtree was the consensus top receiver
- 51:28Speaker 5: in the draft. Everybody thought he was going high, he
- 51:31Speaker 5: was gonna be a top five pick. He was far
- 51:33Speaker 5: and away the number one player on the board at
- 51:35Speaker 5: that position. The Raiders were the first team to take
- 51:38Speaker 5: a wide receiver. Did they take Michael Crabtree. No, they
- 51:41Speaker 5: took who Evan Darius Hayward Bay because he was faster
- 51:47Speaker 5: from the grave. From the grave. Now, look, I don't
- 51:51Speaker 5: think Teed McMillan is Michael Crabtree, but it's Crabtree and
- 51:55Speaker 5: every that was a shocking pick at the time. It's
- 51:58Speaker 5: Crabtree Hayward Bay two two point zero. The Raiders make
- 52:02Speaker 5: Matthew Golden wide receiver one at pick six.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Okay, so because he is fast, so I get Matthew.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I have Matthew Golden take here in a second. Okay,
- 52:11Speaker 1: But so we're Ward Hunter, Carter Campbell, Genty Golden for you.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I'm McMillan, Membo Becle. I'm shounding fun with this. I
- 52:22Speaker 1: know this is but I'm serious.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Mine serious because I haven't published why I published three.
- 52:25Speaker 1: So you can check those out. Number seven to the
- 52:28Speaker 1: New York Jets. So you're the New York Jets, and
- 52:30Speaker 1: I love this for the Jets as a Patriots guy.
- 52:33Speaker 1: You're the New York Jets. The two top tackles are
- 52:35Speaker 1: gone you're you're perfectly fit. Right tackle is gone right
- 52:40Speaker 1: because he just got taken by the Las Vegas Raiders
- 52:42Speaker 1: at six. Overall with Membo, there's also a lot of
- 52:45Speaker 1: scuttle boat with the Jets and Tyler Warren. And the
- 52:48Speaker 1: Jets have Garrett Wilson, they have Breise Hall, but they
- 52:52Speaker 1: don't really have a second fiddle to Garrett Wilson in
- 52:54Speaker 1: the passing game. Tyler Warren makes sense. It helps both
- 52:57Speaker 1: of their other offensive assets. He's a great blocker and
- 53:00Speaker 1: he's a great pass catcher. He's a clean prospect for
- 53:03Speaker 1: a newer regime to take. Aaron Glenn's like one of
- 53:06Speaker 1: those coaches that you know, he's kind of like Dan Campbell.
- 53:09Speaker 1: He wants to be tough and physical and you know,
- 53:11Speaker 1: build a bully of a football team. They can't get Membo.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I have the Jets taking Tyler Warren at seven.
- 53:19Speaker 5: Yeah, so I still have Membo on the board. He's
- 53:21Speaker 5: the obvious pick, he's the clear pick.
- 53:24Speaker 1: It's the Jets.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Yeah, they're not going to do that.
- 53:26Speaker 5: So I'm kind of attempted to go Mason Grahame here.
- 53:29Speaker 5: The Jets don't need him at all. But Aaron Glenn's
- 53:31Speaker 5: gonna want a defensive player. He's the best defensive player
- 53:33Speaker 5: on the board. But I'll have them going Tyler Warren
- 53:35Speaker 5: as well.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Tyler Warren makes a lot of sense for them,
- 53:38Speaker 1: which I if you're a Patriots fan, I think that
- 53:41Speaker 1: you're fine with them getting Tyler Warren number eight as
- 53:44Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers. This to me, I think is one
- 53:48Speaker 1: of the bigger surprise picks I have in my top ten.
- 53:53Speaker 1: When I look at the Carolina Panthers and I texted
- 53:55Speaker 1: you the screenshot of their wide receiver depth chart right now,
- 53:58Speaker 1: it's not good that the worst wide receiver room in
- 54:01Speaker 1: the NFL. Now that the Patriots have added Stefon Diggs,
- 54:04Speaker 1: I can safely say that is the worst wide receiver
- 54:06Speaker 1: room in the NFL. It's Xavier Lagett, a thirty something
- 54:12Speaker 1: year old Adam Feelin is in there right like. It
- 54:15Speaker 1: is not good. And beyond that, I just can't see
- 54:22Speaker 1: Carolina going into next season with that being their wide
- 54:26Speaker 1: receiver depth chart. It's just not good enough on any level.
- 54:29Speaker 1: So with the eighth overall picked, the Carolina, Carolina Panthers
- 54:34Speaker 1: select Matthew Golden from Texas, I just think that it
- 54:38Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense for them to add another
- 54:40Speaker 1: offensive playmaker. They need to add receivers. Tech McMillan's already
- 54:45Speaker 1: off the board in my mock, so they can't take
- 54:47Speaker 1: Tech McMillan. When a guy runs the sub four three forty,
- 54:51Speaker 1: even if he doesn't play to the sub four three
- 54:53Speaker 1: forty on tape, teams just fall over themselves for those
- 54:57Speaker 1: types of players. There's a lot of smoke here for
- 54:58Speaker 1: Jalen Walker being a Carolina Panther. Maybe that's the other
- 55:02Speaker 1: pick here, but I'm going Matthew Golden because I look
- 55:04Speaker 1: at that Carolina offense and I say, this is not good.
- 55:07Speaker 1: This is not NFL caliber, Like you have to add
- 55:10Speaker 1: something to this group.
- 55:11Speaker 5: I'll go Teed McMillan say everything you just said, them
- 55:13Speaker 5: needing a receiver.
- 55:14Speaker 1: But I SI love McMillan on the board. Yep, all right.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Number nine the New Orleans Saints. This one was a
- 55:19Speaker 1: little bit tricky to me as well, because I so
- 55:22Speaker 1: see Mikel Williams as a New Orleans Saint fitt. They
- 55:26Speaker 1: love their ed rushers in New Orleans. They especially love
- 55:29Speaker 1: their toolsy ed rushers in New Orleans. They've made some
- 55:33Speaker 1: mistakes in the draft, in New Orleans targeting edge rushers,
- 55:37Speaker 1: so it could be mikel Williams. But I'm going to
- 55:39Speaker 1: take the other Georgia edge rusher, Jalen Walker in this spot.
- 55:43Speaker 1: He's still on my board right now to New Orleans.
- 55:46Speaker 1: So the Saints ad Jalen Walker. I think they would
- 55:48Speaker 1: be a Tyler Warren team if Tyler Warren fell to
- 55:51Speaker 1: them at nine, but he got scooped up by the
- 55:54Speaker 1: Jets at seven. Did you know the Saints starting tight
- 55:57Speaker 1: end right now is Foster Moreau. He is there starting
- 56:00Speaker 1: tight end. There's teams with the worst tight end rooms, honestly,
- 56:02Speaker 1: so they were They are definitely a Tyler Warren team.
- 56:06Speaker 1: I don't know if they'll take the risk on Colston
- 56:08Speaker 1: Lovelin on the injury risk. So I'm gonna go Jayalen
- 56:11Speaker 1: Walker here at nine to the Saints.
- 56:13Speaker 5: I'm gonna have them trading down again. This is two
- 56:16Speaker 5: trades in the top ten, which might be unlikely. But
- 56:18Speaker 5: I think that the Miami Dolphins look even Mike McDaniel
- 56:22Speaker 5: should be able to see how bad that line is.
- 56:23Speaker 5: You have a quarterback that has a history of injuries,
- 56:25Speaker 5: you have to be able to address it. I have
- 56:27Speaker 5: armand Membu falling here. Even if he doesn't. Maybe it's
- 56:30Speaker 5: a trade up for Calvin Banks for Josh Simmons. They
- 56:32Speaker 5: need offensive line help. Armond Membu to the Dolphins at nine.
- 56:36Speaker 5: With the Saints moving back and the Saints by a
- 56:38Speaker 5: bunch of needs, they're just perpetually in cap hell at
- 56:40Speaker 5: this point, they still are.
- 56:41Speaker 1: They could use more picks thanks to the makes a
- 56:43Speaker 1: lot of sense. Yeah, so they get him at thirteen here,
- 56:46Speaker 1: So who you actually taking a night Membu to the Dolphins? Membu?
- 56:48Speaker 1: Do the Dolphins that time? Okay? Last pick number ten
- 56:52Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears. See where this is going the Bears.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Everyone is telling you that the Bears are ashon gent
- 57:00Speaker 1: crazy right now in this mock, I had Ashton Genty
- 57:03Speaker 1: falling to them right in their laps for Ben Johnson.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Don't even need to trade up for him. So the
- 57:07Speaker 1: Bears taking at ten ash and Genty they get their
- 57:10Speaker 1: guy without a trade up, which probably isn't gonna happen.
- 57:12Speaker 1: They're probably gonna end up swapping with Jacksonville and taking
- 57:15Speaker 1: him at five, and Jacksonville will get their guy Ted
- 57:17Speaker 1: McMillan at ten. But I think those are two teams
- 57:20Speaker 1: are taking McMillan and Genty in some order like however,
- 57:23Speaker 1: they figure it out. They figure it out. But I
- 57:26Speaker 1: just had them. Everybody's sticking in picking here Ashton Genty
- 57:29Speaker 1: at ten, So cam Ward to the Titans, Travis Hunter
- 57:33Speaker 1: to the Browns, Abdul Carter to the Giants, Will Campbell
- 57:37Speaker 1: to the Pats, Teed McMillan to the Jaguars, Membu to
- 57:40Speaker 1: the Raiders, Warren to the Jets, Matthew Golden is surprise
- 57:43Speaker 1: top ten pick to the Carolina Panthers, Jalen Walker to
- 57:46Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints, and Ashton Genty to the Chicago Bears.
- 57:49Speaker 1: That's the official. There you go. Evan is our top ten.
- 57:51Speaker 3: I guess I got a wrap mine up.
- 57:52Speaker 5: I'll take Mason Graham to the Jacks because it'll bug
- 57:54Speaker 5: you that the NERD's taking a defensive tackle.
- 57:56Speaker 1: So the only player in the top ten that I
- 57:58Speaker 1: felt wrong about keeping out was Mason. I've seen him
- 58:02Speaker 1: out of some people's top tens. This isn't completely out
- 58:05Speaker 1: of left field. He is another one of those guys
- 58:08Speaker 1: that has been hiding in the pre draft process. Did
- 58:10Speaker 1: no testing, nothing at his pro day, nothing at the combine,
- 58:15Speaker 1: he's a great football player. He wins with technique, he
- 58:17Speaker 1: wins with leverage, he wins with hustle, he wins with
- 58:21Speaker 1: effort and finish all those types of things. But he's
- 58:24Speaker 1: not an athlete. And he's clearly not an athlete because
- 58:26Speaker 1: he refuses to work out, so he's hiding the fact
- 58:29Speaker 1: that he's not an athlete. For the most part, I
- 58:31Speaker 1: think if you're picking in the top ten, you want
- 58:33Speaker 1: to be picking athletic specimens in the top ten. You
- 58:36Speaker 1: don't want to be picking guys that are are Oh well,
- 58:39Speaker 1: this guy's savvy and he's sound, and he's smart, and
- 58:42Speaker 1: he's you know, hustles and all that like that's usually
- 58:45Speaker 1: not top ten worthy. So I see Mason Graham being
- 58:48Speaker 1: the odd man out falling out of the top ten. Yeah,
- 58:50Speaker 1: all right, So there you go. That's the official mock draft,
- 58:53Speaker 1: my one and only top ten mock draft. I think
- 58:56Speaker 1: it's going to be right, probably not, probably gonna be
- 58:58Speaker 1: very wrong. We'll see. But let's get into your part
- 59:01Speaker 1: of the show. Now. We're gonna get into the phones
- 59:03Speaker 1: and we're gonna get into the emails. But before we do, uh,

- 59:38Speaker 1: lot of people holding here. Patty is in Aguan. What's
- 59:41Speaker 1: up Patty?
- 59:44Speaker 8: Good afternoon, Jens.
- 59:45Speaker 1: How are you hey?
- 59:47Speaker 7: All right?
- 59:48Speaker 8: Evan, And I hope you give me a little bit
- 59:49Speaker 8: of a vine because I got some you know, I
- 59:51Speaker 8: got a lot of draft things I need to get
- 59:52Speaker 8: off my chest. First thing I wanted to see yesterday,
- 59:55Speaker 8: I'm to you, is I wanted to get your guys
- 59:57Speaker 8: feeling on draft fatigue. I know that's kind of a
- 59:59Speaker 8: big buzzword or buzz buzz word's going on right now,
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: and I think a lot of us in this area
- 1:00:05Speaker 8: have it. And the reason why we have it is
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: because the last two seasons twenty three and twenty four.
- 1:00:11Speaker 8: I don't know about you, I don't know about any
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: of the other fans, but I started looking at the
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: top prospects coming out in November because that's how crappy
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: this team has been. So we're not you know, we're
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: not looking from January the end of January and to April.
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: I'm looking from the middle of November into Abril. So
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: I've got a good idea on who's out there, what
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: they're good at, what they're not good at. I don't
- 1:00:36Speaker 8: break down the film like you, Evan. I'm not as
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: even though I'm older than you guys, more experienced, I'm
- 1:00:41Speaker 8: not as smart as you guys, because you know that's
- 1:00:43Speaker 8: your full time job. So I wanted to get your
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: thoughts on that. My second thing I wanted to talk
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: about is you guys were bringing it up twenty four
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: that's going to be a hotspot to trade up. Now,
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: what if four tackles are off the board in the
- 1:00:57Speaker 8: top fifteen, right, and then what teams like Kansas City
- 1:01:01Speaker 8: and Houston jump Minnesota and then you know all these
- 1:01:05Speaker 8: people that are clamoring to take somebody else beside the
- 1:01:09Speaker 8: left tackle at the number four spot. You're done, You're cooked.
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: You're not getting a left tackle this year. No, but
- 1:01:14Speaker 8: that's a variable I've not heard anybody bring up yet.
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: And the last thing I want to end it with, Alex.
- 1:01:20Speaker 8: I know this is probably gonna be kind of boring
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: for you because I saw on TV last night you
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: did the you did a bunch of mock drafts. But
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: this was my predictive list. First pick Campbell, Second pick
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: Jalen Noel. One thing that doesn't get talked about with
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: Noel is he was a team captain, so he's a
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: high character guy. Number three Jack Sawyer, And this is
- 1:01:41Speaker 8: sticking and picking. I think Sawyer is going to fall.
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: Jack Sawyer number three. I think they're going to get
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: a tight end. I think the best one in round
- 1:01:47Speaker 8: three that's going to be available to them is going
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: to be Terrence Ferguson. Fifth pick, Jacob Parrish. Fifth pick
- 1:01:53Speaker 8: for Shard Smith got asked, m you and I rounded
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: out with Drew Kendall, Cayleb Rodgers, who's a versatile he
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: could inside and he can play tackle. Highly penalized guy,
- 1:02:04Speaker 8: but I mean he's he wouldn't be a bad guy
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: to be sort of that firstatle lignement that you could
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: mix and match at any position. If somebody goes down
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: and Ryan Fitzgerald the round it off, that's all I got.
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: Let's go, baby, let's go.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, Patty Good mock, good mock. I
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: will say Drew Kendall, I think is gonna go a
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: lot higher than people think. I Drew Kendall's like like
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: a fourth or fifth round pick. But I like the mock.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I like all the players that he picked there. I
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: think they're guys that we've discussed and we've talked about
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: a lot. I do I find the the Jalen Knowle
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: thing interesting. It's on the one hand that they could
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: look at it and we could look at it as
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: kind of like a redo on Lad McConkie, right, Like
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: it's kind of a similar type of player, and you
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: might feel like, all right, well, they have kind of
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: enough of that kind of player, they have enough slots,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: they have enough inside guys. But he's probably the best
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: receiver that you could take there.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: I also don't think they like people who have said
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: the slot position is filled, I disagree with that. I
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: think they have options, but we've talked about this. Pop
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Douglas I think absolutely has a role here. Yeah, he's
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: a good player, He's not that one hundred and twenty
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: target year guy. He's more Danny A. Mondola than Julian Edelman.
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: And after that, if they're gonna play digs in the slot,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: so that's one thing. I know, you think they're gonna
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: play digs in the slot, I'd see Moore as a Z.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: So now you're down to Jalen Polk.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of it.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: And like Kedrick Bourne, I guess, I guess.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: If you feel good about those as your slot options,
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: especially in a different slot than a different kind of
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: slot player than maybe Polk is. I kind of want
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: to do this later in the show, but I'll just
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: bring it up now. Like there's always two or three
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: guys that I think the Patriots are gonna take. You know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: everything tells me the Patriots are gonna take that I
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: want to get into a mock draft that I don't
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: end up getting in, and usually they end up taking
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: one of those guys, and it bugs me because I
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: didn't put him in both Iowa State receivers or in
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: that category.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: For me, this year.
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: I did one last night. I was texting about this.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: I was trying to get Noel or Higgins in. Yeah,
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: I couldn't make it work. I ended up putting Tray Harrison,
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: who I think is a fit too. But like I
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: bet you, I'm gonna regret not putting one of the
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: Iowa state wide receivers in. But if I put one in,
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: they would have taken the other, so I would regret
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: it either way. But I regret not getting those guys
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: my mock draps.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: It's interesting. The nole thing to me is interesting, and
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I know that I was thinking. It was yesterday that
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: that Los Angeles the Chargers put out bear side of
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: the trade call for Ladd McConkie, and it just kind
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: of brought the whole thing back up again at the
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Patriots passing on Ladd McConkie. And I do wonder if
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: this time around they say, well, we want to take
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: a receiver here, Knowle's the best receiver. We literally just
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: made this mistake a year ago, passing on the receiver
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: because it was too redundant to the guys we already have, like,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: we're not going to do that again, and we're just
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: gonna take Jalen Rowle to your point about the slot,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Like I think Diggs is a Z. But in historically,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you know, there's two different types of of like Patriot slots. Right,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: There's like the Welker Edelman slot that's truly a third
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: receiver that comes on the field in eleven and plays
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: the slot. And then there's the Julian Edelman slot who's
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: kind of like a moveable piece that is really truly
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: playing the Z, but he's playing like a fifty to
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: fifty split of inside outside. So I see Stefan Diggs
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: playing more in that like Julian Edelman type of archetype
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: or mold of being an inside outside guy, a movable
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: chess piece around the formation type of guy. If they
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: take a guy like Jalen Nole, that's probably his best
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: role as well. So how do you make that work?
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Maybe it's Nol in the slot early on. Diggs is
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: probably not a long term thing here in New England.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: It's probably more of a short term thing. So maybe
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six or twenty twenty seven, Nol you know,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: moves over and plays more on the outside. All right,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Randy is in Providence. What's up? Randy.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Hey, how's it going, guys?
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Eight?
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Hey, So I had a question that I had two takes.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: I want to get your reaction on. They'll be quick.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: So I saw tweet this morning from a guy named.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Simon Charles is fake account, fake account?
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Okay, okay, cool?
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I was like, I'm not familiar with him, so all right, yeah,
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: then two takes.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Stop getting god by Simon Charles.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: Guys keep going, yeah, I'm not a big look, I'm
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: not a big Twitter guy.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: We're to make it funny, you know, We're not making
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: funny in that, all right?
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: So, uh, two takes number one. I think Carter goes
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: it too, and that's I don't know that that's like
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: the hottest take in the world, but every one in
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: the world has Hunter, and I just think like Andrew
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: Berry is kind of known for enjoying the gamesmanship of
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: this right, and he's kind of like been a little
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: too public about it, and I don't know, I think
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: that if he was going to sit down with Miles
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Garrett and sell him on a plan, telling him on
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: like we're going to create this ridiculous path rush is
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: more attractive to a guy like Miles Garrett. Then we're
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: going to drive Travis Hunter and you, like you were
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: saying earlier, you know, you can't exactly like one hundred
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: percent promise, but we're going to get Hunter and Sanders
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: or something like that, you know, So I just to me,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: I think that, you know, I'm always suspicious of news
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: and stuff that comes out in April, especially from guys
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: who like to kind of play the media a little bit,
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: like they have that reputation like Andrew Prairie does. And
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: then the hotter take that is quick is I think
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: that more tight ends go in the top ten than
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: quarterbacks or wide receivers were end.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: So I have a take along those lines.
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: Thanks for the I think Mason Taylor's going to be
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: first round pick, or if not first round, like I
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: don't think he's gonna be on the board of thirty
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: eight because Tyler Warren's gonna go top ten, Wavelin's gonna
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: go top twenty, if not top fifteen. Some people think
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: he might go before Warren. Mason Taylor right now on
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: the consensus board is fifty. Yeah, So let's see even
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: say loved and falls to twenty were going thirty picks
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: without a tight end were going twenty picks a year
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: after brock Bowers in a copycat league like and there's
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: teams that need tight ends. The Rams are down there,
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: they need a tight end. You could argue the Ravens
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: should start getting ready for life after Marc Andrews Denver.
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: Denver needs a tight end at twenty. If Loveland goes higher,
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: I think that's probably Loveland's floor floor. Like Mason, I
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: don't think Mason Taylor, there's a I think there's a
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: really good chance Mason Taylor is not good at thirty eight.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: And I'll dress the take up a little bit and say,
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: I think Mason Taylor's gonna be.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: A first round ten. So I think it's a I've
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: heard that you're not alone. Yeah. To me, it's a
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: lot of projecting for a first round pick. I get it.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: He's a good, great athlete.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: He's that much of a projection.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: He's just young, but he just doesn't have he doesn't
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: have a great college production, but he's like the skill
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: level is very polished for somebody his age. Yeah, I agree,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: he's good well in terms of the ball skills, certainly,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: like there's some route running detail that he's probably gonna
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: have to hone in on in the pros. But he's
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: a great athlete. He's a smooth athlete. He's a smooths catcher.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: The gauntlet drill that he'd put on in the combine
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: was just breathtaking, right, Like, that's exactly how it should look.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: He's young, he's athletic, you know, all, it checks all
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: of the boxes. I do think it's a little bit
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: steep to put him in the first round, but I
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: could see him going in the thirties for sure. Like
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I think that he's an early second.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: The real take is, I don't think he's on the
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: board of thirty eight. But you know, as the Great
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: League Courses said, we're in the entertainment business. I'll dress
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: it up a little bit.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Now. The the take about it being there being more
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: tight ends than quarterbacks and receivers in the first round, that.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: One topped ten.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: He said, oh, in the top the top ten. Oh well, maybe,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: I mean, I guess maybe sometimes I could see it,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: because how are you gonna get three tight ends in
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: the top ten? Are they gonna be two quarterbacks in
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: the top ten? No, he's said quarterbacks and receivers.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: So what if one of these teams that needs a
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: pass catcher, looks at it and likes Colston Lovelin better
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: than McMillan or Golden, whoever's there.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: That's a big, big risk. It would have to be
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: two to one. It would have to be two to one.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: But like I could see it. I don't know they
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: did bet on it, but I could see it. You know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: it's not gonna be three to two. It's gonna be
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: two to one.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Now if we're talking first round. I don't see it
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: at all. Like I think McMillan, eg, Buka, Matthew Golden
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: our lock first round picks at receiver, and cam Ward's
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: a lock first round pick a cord I sneaky love
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: if he falls there, Buka to the Eagles at thirty two, Yeah,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: would be such a good pick.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: And I have not seen nearly enough people talk about that.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: I know if he'll fall that far, but yeah, it's
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: a good pick. But those four guys are going in
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: the first round. I can't get too.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: Because it's it's kind of the same thing with Tet
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: where he's not that that level of athlete that teams
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: usually want from wide receivers in the first round. He's
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: incredibly skilled and he's a good player, and it's annoying
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: that we're kind of just banking so much on athleticism
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: and not looking at how good is this guy at football?
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: Actually it's not just a track meet. But yeah, like,
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: if Tedt's gonna fall, you can make an argument that
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: Buka's gonna fall too, because they're short. They're very different players,
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: but their shortcomings on the surface are kind of.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: They both don't have top end speed, right, they both
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: have that modest place uh top end speed. I wouldn't
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: call it play speed because I think ted is fast
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: with the ball in his hands, but they are not
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: necessarily dynamic route runners in terms of speed. I could
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: I could see a Buka falling a little bit. I
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: still feel like he's right in that jsn addison z
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: A Flowers sweet spot right right in the twenties somewhere
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: makes the most sense for Buka. All right, Rio is
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: in Texas? What's up?
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: Rio?
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Rio? You're there? Good?
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Uh?
- 1:11:37Speaker 7: I'm ready for this draft season to be over. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: don't know if you all feeling in the same.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Way we love the draft season here. Oh yeah, I
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: don't know. There's something about like sea ready to be
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: over and like wanting to know who they are actually
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: going to take. I think are two different things. I'm
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: ready to actually see who they're gonna take.
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: I enjoy it, it's fun to talk about and all that,
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: but there is an element of, like, you put all
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: this work in you want to pay off. You won't
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: know if you were right or not right, So it's
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: kind of there's a there's a balance there.
- 1:12:07Speaker 7: Well, none of us are going to be right in
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: the end, but I just wanted to get a couple
- 1:12:11Speaker 7: of things off of my chest and then ask a
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: ask a question kind of with Patty was saying earlier.
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: You know, going back, it's been a very long draft
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: season and I spent quite frankly since the words young
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: Tunger Cat were uttered. I've been looking at the draft
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: class because I was a little dubious at that point,
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: and this draft has reminded me of a lot of
- 1:12:34Speaker 7: twenty twenty two, where you're going to have a whole
- 1:12:37Speaker 7: bunch of prospects debated at the top, and I think
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: we're going to look back in three years and say, yeah,
- 1:12:43Speaker 7: there are a couple of guys that are pretty good,
- 1:12:44Speaker 7: and the rest of them that we've been debating, they
- 1:12:46Speaker 7: all kind of stink. There's nothing great there. And when
- 1:12:49Speaker 7: Alex brought up earlier with Darius Hayward Day and Michael Crabtree,
- 1:12:54Speaker 7: you know that was a shocking pick at the time.
- 1:12:57Speaker 7: Neither guy was any good Tree.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: He was solid.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: He wasn't what he was supposed to be, but he
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: was solid.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: Do you want to take him as a tautent tick?
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: I don't, But my thinking is why not try to
- 1:13:13Speaker 7: avoid the entire mess basically? And I know you thought that.
- 1:13:18Speaker 7: Evan said earlier that the Raiders were going to take
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: care of Colton Miller. I don't think they are. I
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: think they're going to try to go a different direction.
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: What do you think about just one for six and
- 1:13:28Speaker 7: Colton Miller? Just valu him as a third round pick
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: since you have to pay him, take yourself out of
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: the position where you even have to be thinking, I
- 1:13:35Speaker 7: have to take a tackle at four overall because we
- 1:13:39Speaker 7: got to protect Drake May and now you open up
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: the board for yourself at six.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a it's a good theory. Rio, thanks for
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: the call.
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: Real quick, just for the record. Yeah, Michael Crabtree seventeen
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: game average in his.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Career, stuck on Crabtree averaged.
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: Over seventeen games each season, seventy six catches, nine hundred yards,
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: seven touchdowns.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: I'd take that. Yeah, he was fine. That's fine. He
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: wasn't what he was full to be, but he's not
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: a bad player. Would I trade for for six and
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Colton Miller? Yeah, I probably would. I would. I don't
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: think the Raiders would. I don't know if the Raiders would.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: I also have just decided that the market for these
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: trades that include veteran players is so wacky at this
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: point that I'm done trying to predict what exactly a
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: player is going to get in return. Colton Miller could
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: be worth the first round pick, it could be worth
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: the seventh round pick. I honestly have no idea anymore,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: because everything seems to be a case by case basis
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: where it just depends on the supply and the demand
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: and that all this.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: There's more demand at the position.
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: But yeah, if you're the Raiders, would you rather move
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: up two spots or get the thirty eighth pick outright.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: In this draft? How would they get the thirty eighth
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: pick for Coldon Miller?
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: I'm saying if those are the two options, right, you
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: can either move up probably get the thirty eighth pick.
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: I would too if I'm the Raiders. So the whole
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: six to fourth thing that doesn't work.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Well unless the only way I guess I wouldn't it
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: just to play Devil's advocate, is if the Raiders are
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: convinced that Genty's going five to the Jaguars and they
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: want genty, so then you got yes, you're jumping the
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Jaguars to get genty I.
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: It also doesn't matter because there was nothing in that
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: report that Colton Miller wants to be traded right, just
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: that he wants a new contract. He's a starting caliber
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: left tackle. We've talked about how hard those guys are
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: to find. That's gonna you're you're that was less than
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: a week ago. So you're gonna trade a guy over
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: contract dispute if it's even reached that point it's optional workouts. Yeah,
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: you're gonna move on from that guy in a week.
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: Over All that a twenty nine year old starting left tackle, because.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: That's a that's a camp trade.
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: If it's a trade right now, and the Patriots absolutely
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: cannot say, well, Colton Miller might be available, so we're
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: not gonna take a left tackle. You can't do that
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: because if he doesn't become available, which odds are he
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: won't because these tackles never become available. If he doesn't
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: become available, now you don't.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Have a tackle. You the Colton Miller thing.
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: It's a nice thought, there it logistically for a million
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: reasons won't happen.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: The question that I would pose, and feel free to
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: call on an email, and and I'm not saying this
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: argumentatively necessarily, but the question that I would pose is that,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: are all these people that are trying to find I'm
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: not picking on Rio either, all these people that are
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: trying to find creative ways to get out of taking
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Will Campbell at for overall or any tackle? Is it because,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: and be honest with yourself, is it because you just
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: don't like the player? Yeah? Or is it because you
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: don't like the idea of taking a tackle because it's
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: not fun enough? Right? Like, it's just not like you
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: want to come out of this draft with something that
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: is sexy, something that is appealing, something that is fun,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: and it socks for Christmas, and you don't want to
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: pull the you know, you don't want to pull the
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: trigger on socks for Christmas you want the Xbox, And like,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: now we're just talking ourselves into every other possible avenue.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: You know, take gent ed four, trade back up into
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: the twenties for the tackle, trade four for six and
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Colton Miller, you know, trade a third round pick for
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Colton Miller, and then you don't need to take the
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: tackle at four. We're just trying to find a bunch
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: of different ways to avoid taking the tackle. And I'm
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: genuinely curious if that is because you just don't like
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: the players available at the position, or it's because you
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: don't want to take the tackle, because I think a
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: lot for a lot of people is that you just
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: don't want to take the tackle. You just don't. You
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: just don't want the socks and underwear for Christmas. You
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: want the xbox. And sometimes, speaking as an adult right now,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: that's trying to adult and failing miserably telling you right now,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: the socks for Christmas are practical and they're great. And again,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: if you don't.
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: Want Campbell, that's fine, but like you got to tell
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: me then, especially you're like, if you tell me member
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: with four, fine, okay, you believe more in him than Campbell.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I'm talking tackles in general.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: Right, if you're saying I don't want to tackle it
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: for you got to tell me either how else you're
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: getting that player or why you're comfortable with Vederian low
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: starting her again?
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: All right, Jordan is in Ohio. It's up, Jordan.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Uh, George Pickens?
- 1:17:59Speaker 8: Would you guys a day too like a third round
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: pick for him? That's my first question. Second, would what's
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: your guys.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: Spots on Jehem Bell moving the full back?
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Yeah? Thanks for the call of Jordan. I say a
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Day two pick, like when I trade seventy seven for
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: George Pickens?
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, probably probably, I'm not trading thirty five.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: I don't know if I would trade thirty eight for him.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: He's not their type of guy, like obviously with some
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: of the character stuff, and he's a little bit of
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: a head case, like he's just not a very able
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: kind of guy.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: And what is he looking for? Is he looking for
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: a new contract? Is he coming here trying to reset
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: his value? And he plans on hidden free agency? If
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: he's coming as a rental, No, I maybe late day three.
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: I'm not trading a top three pick or a top
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: uners pick for rental.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go crazy and be like, I don't
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: want George Pickens on my type. But I'm just saying
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: that I would probably be conservative. I wouldn't give up
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: thirty eight, but I give up seventy seven for George
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Pickens probably, like I.
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: Think you kind of not going to sign a new contract. Okay,
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: that he's in the last year's deal.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Right, getting there. I don't know if it's the last year.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: He's in twenty two draft four? Yeah's the second round pick.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: He doesn't have a rookie options, so yes, last year
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: was deal? All right? Mark is in Connecticut? What's up? Mark?
- 1:19:13Speaker 8: Are we ready?
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: Guys?
- 1:19:14Speaker 9: Oh?
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, right of course.
- 1:19:17Speaker 9: Evan, my draft board is very similar to yours, which
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: is great. So that makes me feel a lot better.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know about that.
- 1:19:28Speaker 9: I mean, we're either going to be good or bad.
- 1:19:30Speaker 9: That's one of the consensus.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: But Travis Hunter, I.
- 1:19:34Speaker 9: Want everything we got to do to pop up one
- 1:19:37Speaker 9: or two picks. What is it going to take? Is
- 1:19:39Speaker 9: it going to take a second and a third from
- 1:19:42Speaker 9: this year to do that?
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: No?
- 1:19:44Speaker 9: I just wanted to get your guys' tensus on how
- 1:19:47Speaker 9: much draft capital we gotta do to move up one spot.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: Maybe two spots.
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: More than you should. He's the guy more than you should.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, Mark. I love Travis Hunter. I
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: actually finished with him as my number one player in
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: the I think he's the best player in the draft.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: I think he's a great player. I think you're probably
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: looking up a giving up the twenty twenty six first
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: round pick. Yeah, I truly think it's going to be
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: something like that. We had a caller earlier, I can't
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: remember which when it was, sorry, but in call her
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: earlier saying that they think that the Browns are going
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: to take Abdul Carter instead of Travis Hunter and pull
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: fast foot on everybody. Andrew Berry the Browns GM called
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: him the show hey Otani of football. Right. I'm sorry,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: but even if he just wants to be coy, even
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: if he just wants to play games, even if he
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: just wants to have fun with the media, you cannot
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: go on the record in a press conference comparing a
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: guy to show Heyotani. I'm not necessarily a baseball guy.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: There's some baseball people that think he's the best player
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: of all time in baseball, right, like that, that's not
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: a hot take to say that, Shoeyo Tani might be
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: the best player of all time at his sport. If
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: you are comparing that guy to that player in shoe
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Heyotani and Travis Hunter, you are taking Travis Hunter because
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: if three years from now you ended up being right
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: and you passed on show Hey Otania Football, then you
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: are going to look like a moron. So you're not
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: doing that.
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: It's going to cost the future first either way, I
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: don't it's not worth They need more than one great player,
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: and Travis Hunter is a great player, but he's not worth,
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: you know, getting a potential game changer this year, whether
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: it be Will Campbell, Jalen Walker, even Ash and Genty
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: somebody else. Yeah, plus whoever're gonna get next year in
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: a better draft. It's it's not worth it.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. All right, Henry is in DC. What's up? Henry?
- 1:21:38Speaker 10: Hey, guys, thanks so much for taking my call. Love
- 1:21:41Speaker 10: listening to the show. You getty, good listener. I like
- 1:21:45Speaker 10: to run a lot of draft simulations, and there's two
- 1:21:48Speaker 10: situations I was interested in.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: Your take on.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:21:52Speaker 10: The first is in the second round. I feel like
- 1:21:55Speaker 10: there's always three or four guys that I really want,
- 1:21:57Speaker 10: and none of them fall to thirty eight. So for
- 1:21:59Speaker 10: each of year, who's someone that you'd be pounding the
- 1:22:02Speaker 10: table to trade up to get at like thirty three
- 1:22:05Speaker 10: or thirty four? And then in the third round, I
- 1:22:09Speaker 10: feel like there's just so many good options that I
- 1:22:12Speaker 10: can't pick between them, and I never know what to do.
- 1:22:15Speaker 10: So my two questions are who would you trade up
- 1:22:18Speaker 10: to get at thirty three or thirty four? And then
- 1:22:21Speaker 10: what would an A plus third round look like?
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: To each you O great good questions, Henry, Who would
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: I trade up for in the second round? Line? There
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: are a lot, I think it all. It's hard to
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: answer because it depends on who they take it for.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: Right If they don't take a tackle at four, then
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I they're trading up for a tackle, right, like they
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: have to trade up for Connorly or a nursery in
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: my mind. The other guy that you know, I don't
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: know if I necessarily would need to trade up for
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: him or would but just in terms of, you know,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: for the sake of conversation, as they like to say,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: one of the more fascinating players in this draft to
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: me from Patriots perspective is Luther Burden because they are
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: a team that needs special talent on the offensive side
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: of the ball that needs game changing skill talent on
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: the offensive side of the ball, which is one hundred
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: and ten percent what Luther Burden is. But they've also
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: spent the entire offseason targeting guys that are high character players,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: that are good locker room guys, that are leaders, that
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: are captain material, all these kinds of things. And if
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Luther Burden falls out of the first round, it's going
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: to be because of the football character question marks, right,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: It's going to be about the person Luther Burden, not
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: the player Luther Burden. So if the Patriots are sitting
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: there at thirty eight and Luther Burden's falling because of
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: the concerns about his character and his makeup, that to
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: me is the ultimate litmus test of the Mike Rabol program.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Would they take the risk on a player like Luther
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: Burden Because to me, and I don't know the guy,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: I don't do the vetting. I'm not a big dom
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: in Philadelphi, right, I'm not. I'm not making calls and
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: finding out about these guys. But to me, Luther Burden
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: would really tip the scales for the Patriots, Like if
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: they came out of this draft with Will Campbell and
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Luther Burden, Like, I am absolutely ecstatic. Would they do it?
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Would they take Luther Burden? I'm prepared to be disappointed.
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: He's like everything we've heard they're not looking for with
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: some of the red flags, which I think are overblown.
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: I go watch Drew Locke.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: I'd be pissed to Brady after Brady Cook, thank you.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I liked Drew Locke. That do you still like?
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: I do still like Drew.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: That's why you won't quit Drew.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: I won't quit Drew Locke and you won't quit Tes Johnson.
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: But I'd be frustrated to about him. He is you
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: said it there.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: He is exactly the kind of receiver the Patriots need.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: He is explosive breaker, He's a yeah, game breaker is
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: a great way to put it. But are those off
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: field concerns going to be an issue? The only reason
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: he's we're even having this conversation is because of those
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: because the issues aren't on the tape. So I'm prepared
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: to be let down by that. But like, if he's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: there at thirty eight or within range of trade up,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: like I would love for them to take him, I'm
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: just not expecting it. Yep, all right, Ken is in Louisiana.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: What's up? Ken?
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: Hey Evan, how's it going good? Before I do anything,
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: I wanted to thank both of you guys for the
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: amount of research and the affort you put into this
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: draft season, because you've made this incredibly enjoyable and informative
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: in you know, you two are my go to guys
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: for Thank you, Thank you. It means a lot of research. Secondly,
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: I really you know, I was reading a column today
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: and it kind of mirrored something I was thinking was,
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: this is a very obvious pick for the Patriots. They
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: have always been talking about protecting the protecting the quarterback,
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: and they've been talking about this for a long time.
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: And uh, you know, Will Campbell may not be what
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: everybody thinks they should get for a fourth round pick,
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: but you worth a fourth you know, fourth pick. But
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: he's worth a fourth pick to us, you know, on
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: a on a on a team level. You know, other
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: people maybe you know or maybe that's not the case
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: if you've got a line, but you know, to go
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: back to your Christmas uh uh gift, we got holes
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: in our socks and uh and this guy you know
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: has got a darning needle and can make it better.
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: One of the other things I was I lived for
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: ten years in Monroe, Louisiana, where he's from. It is
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: a football rich area. It's like a backwater for everything else.
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: But I mean all that is a really football rich area.
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: Just a couple of names. Cam Robinson was from Monroe,
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: Andrew Whitworth was from Monroe. So you know, kids grow
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: up there, you know, they're not just the tallest kid,
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: and they on the team and they get to play
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: quarterback and then they go to hockey hockey practice at
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: the end of the season. They grow up, you know,
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: wanting to be lineman or something like that. And so
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: there's a very very rich history for that area. You know. Well,
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: Milt Williams, you know, played college ball there. Doug Peterson
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: played college ball there. You know, so there's you know,
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: it's a really football rich area. Anyway, That's that's all
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: I had. And thank you very much for all the
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: really good work you've.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Done for us this season.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Thank you. Thanks Ken. That was a great call, not
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: just because he was praising us.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: But I love his research. So I just looked it up.
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: Neville High Schools where where Will Campbell went to uh
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: went to high school there. I don't know if there's
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: more than one high school in Monroe, but it's a
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: pretty good alumni list. Larry Anderson, Bubby Brister, who else.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Is on here?
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: Some other older players I haven't heard of. Justin Ellis
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: was a good player back in the day. Caventre Turpin,
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: Max Mitchell also the head strength and conditioning coach for
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: the Chiefs.
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: There you go, who's now with the Bills. I guess
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: that's not updated.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I thought he put it great where you know Will
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Campbell And this is what we've all been pounding the table.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: It might not be the best pick for everybody, it
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: might not be the best pick in every year for
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: the fourth overall pick, but for this team, for this year,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: it's the best pick that they can possibly make. I
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: think that's the best way to put it. That's a
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: perfect way to put it. I would just say you
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: and I started doing this together in twenty eighteen seventeen
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: right around there. You and I have never covered a
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: draft where left tackle wasn't in need. We have never
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: done it. We have never covered a draft. Maybe the
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: only time was like nineteen right after they had drafted
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Isaiah Win in eighteen. I guess they probably, but I
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: think assume that Win was going to be the left
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: tackle in nineteen coming off the injury. But he's coming
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: off an injury, right.
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: There were questions about him coming off the injury, and
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I did they need a right tackle that year?
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Was that?
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: When after they? Did they like Cannon go after eighteen.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Or after nineteen? Yeah, you have to, I don't.
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: I'm okay still at Cannon, So maybe twenty nineteen is
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: the one year.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but he was coming off a Win was coming
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: off of torn achilles at the time. He tore his
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: achilles in the preseason the year before. We have never
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: covered a draft where the Patriots haven't had a need
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: at left tackle. They have also and we're getting old.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: So that's we're going on in like eight drafts where
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: we've talked about tackles every single year. We are also
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: going on two to three years now of the Patriots
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: having some of the worst offensive line play in the NFL,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: the worst like twenty twenty two, twenty three, twenty four,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: when you've just seen a precipitous drop off of their
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: offensive line play from bad to worse here in New England.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: So if they draft. Will Campbell had four overall, which
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: is certainly what it seems like. You need to come
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: out of this draft with the dancer at left tackle.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: You need to come out of this draft elevating the
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: talent in the room on the offensive line. And it's
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: easy to sit back now and not want to build
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: through the trenches. And then everybody gets to the season, yep,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: and they watched Drake May get battered and beaten for
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: six months. They watch Mandre Stevenson fumble a bajillion times
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: and have no place to run the entire year, and
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: everything gets blamed on the offensive line, and then we
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: get to April and nobody wants to draft alignment.
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: It's I get it. It's it's not fun. Like I
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: would much rather than get Travis Hunter just for the
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: pure excitement. I think he's a better player too. But
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: even if I thought they were equal, I probably might
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: want Travis Hunter more because it's more exciting, it's more fun.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: But sometimes you just need to go with what you need,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: and what they need is the left tackle. I just
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: I thought that the callers said it great. It just
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: is the best pick for them this year.
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: So when I when we work together in twenty nineteen,
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: we covered that draft I didn't like, so I apologize
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: in advance that I can't do this to myself. So
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: I don't want you to think I'm taking a personal shot.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: I found your mock draft from twenty nineteen.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: I don't want to know.
- 1:31:00Speaker 11: No.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: So thirty two, Yeah, Jerry Tillery Notre Dame.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: Ah.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Yeah, now I did like him defensive tackle.
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: In the second round.
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: You actually had them trading up in the second round
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: to take offensive tackle.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Dalton Reisner. I was right about that, So clearly
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: he's a better guard.
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: Would you say?
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: As always, we can expect a lot of trades from
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: Belichick on draft weekend. We try to predict one here,
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: and it comes back to the cluster theory, whatever that is.
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: This is a strong.
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: Offensive tackle class, but the drop off after a certain
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: point is considerable. The Patriots jump up ten spots at
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: one of the premier players at the position. New England
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: could opt for left tackle prospects like old Missus Greg
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: Little or Caleb McGarry, and I also like the versatile
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: Titus Howard. Here, you weren't necessarily wrong, but we go
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: with Reisner as a scheme, as a system and culture fit.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: You said Scar would love him.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: And uh tough guyoun on the.
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: Right side, Shack Mason and Reisner would give the Patriots
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: two bulldozers. So we were talking tackle in the top
- 1:31:56Speaker 5: maybe not in first pick. I also found the mock
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: draft tracker. There's a lot to Jerry Tillery, a lot
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: of Yeah, there's some quarterbacks in there, Drew Locke, Will Greer,
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: shout out to Rick Sarah Tella who had Jeffrey Simmons.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: So that that was, But there there are a couple
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: bad draft. We were talking tackle in the top one hundred.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: We all were so sure that Belichick would never draft
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: or receive in the first round. Yeah, yeah, and so
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: especially that year. None of us were on that scent
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: because of that. But good pull, good pull, not terrible.
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: Hang on, you want the rest of it while we're here,
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Just just a couple the whole thing. Will Greer, Jase Sternberger.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: They did get Will Gear eventually. Yeah, you had me
- 1:32:36Speaker 5: Cole Hardman in the third round, ninety seventh. Overall, there
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: we go. Pats Way wires the third round. This one
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: directly relates to their tears system. You said he could
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: be an element player who moves around the formation, can
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: return kicks. Okay, who else did you have here? Most
- 1:32:50Speaker 5: of these Day three guys didn't make it in the
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: league so well, but their Day three Oh yeah, they
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: had like five seventh round pixels here. Yeah, so you
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: take me Cole Hardman ninety seventh. You took Jalen herb
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: one thirty fourth and then they had four picks to
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: fifty five picks. You must have made some trades five
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: picks to fifty or later.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: I did like Jalen Hurd as well. I thought Jalen
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Hurd was gonna work. He's made sense.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: He met with We went with the Rutgers guy late.
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a bunch of linemen on both sides. Nick Easley, Iowa,
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I like vaguely remember.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: Him, always easy to go at the lineman. Uh So
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: every year we can safely say we've been talking about tackles,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: whether it's left or right or whatever the case may be.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: I just I'm sick of it. I'm sick of talking
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: about tackles. I'm sick of the offensive line, you know,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: not being up to snuff, not being NFL caliber. And
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: I think what we've learned over the last couple of
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: years no, it doesn't necessarily move the needle like a
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: top flight receiver would, like a Jamar Chase level receiver would.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: But we've learned over the years is that you literally
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: cannot operate with a bad offensive line. It doesn't have
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: to be great, it doesn't have to be elite. It
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: doesn't have to be Philly's offensive line or Detroit's offensive line.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: It can be middle of the pack, but you have
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: to be at a certain le on the offensive line
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: because you just can't call plays right with an offensive
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: line at that And we've seen it. So I just
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: let's let's take the socks for Christmas people. It'll be okay?
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Will is uh? Is that Kentucky? Maybe I don't know.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: I'm bad with my abbreviations. What's up? Will?
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: Not much?
- 1:34:18Speaker 12: I'm with the socks and some Kentucky thing or the
- 1:34:21Speaker 12: socks for Christmas thing? Because receivers look better when the
- 1:34:25Speaker 12: quarterbacks got more time to throw the football. If you
- 1:34:29Speaker 12: can't even finish this drop before you're getting hit, how
- 1:34:31Speaker 12: you getting even get the ball out? I'm tired of
- 1:34:34Speaker 12: wat of some people get smacked back there playing quarterback.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: Yeah, fair enough? Well what else you got?
- 1:34:44Speaker 12: Oh question? What's what would what's the chances of them,
- 1:34:48Speaker 12: like somebody like say the Giants throwing a curveball since
- 1:34:51Speaker 12: they need a right tackle and getting Membo instead of
- 1:34:54Speaker 12: abdual Carter because then they move Evan Neil into guards.
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and thanks for the call. Well, I I
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: don't think there's a very good chance of that. Now.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: Is there a chance that they trade out of the pick?
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: They trade the Giants trade back with somebody so somebody
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: else can take at dual Carter three? Sure, there's no
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: reason for them to take at dual Carter Act three
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: or excuse me, arm On Membo. Yeah right, No, like
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: they can trade out of that pick, somebody else will
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: take the pick for Abdul Carter and they can still
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: take Membo at six. Right, anybody sneaks up in there,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be genty.
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: Do the Giants over correct?
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: Is Joe Shane over correct on losing Saquon Barkley and
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: take genty and three because that's the one.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: If you move back you might not get them.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: So we have about approximately one thousand emails coming in.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: A little little breaking news real quick here. The Saints
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: are picking up chrys Olave's fifty year options. So he's
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: been kind of loosely floated as a Patriots trade target and.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: Now is an extra year on his contract. Okay, And
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: they're not picking up the option on Trevor Penning, all right,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Trevor Penning is not good.
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: If Will Campbell is a guard, like you all say,
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: Trevor Penning is not good, it's.
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: Gonna be a lot of copio Trevor Penning.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: Trevor Penning is a big draft bust.
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: He should probably be played. I think he'd be okay
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: as the guard.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: That's a guy. He's tall though, he's like a big
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: it's true, I don't. I think McKay Beckton kind of
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: proved you can have tall guards though. But Makai Becton
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: is like huge, right, Like he's Trevor Petting's like a
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: tall athlete, like he's kind of like a Nate Soldier build. Yeah,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: all right. Marcel is from Austria. He's emailing in and uh,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: I look, I understand Marcel's train of thought here a
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: little bit.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: He has a quick draft question for us, which isn't
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: so quick. But that's okay, Marcel, we still love you.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: If Membo can't play left tackle because he can't make
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: the switch from right to left. And if Campbell can't
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: play left tackle because of the arm wingspan, then shouldn't
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: the Patriots take Armond Membu essentially? And to me, which
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I've said before, which I'm saying a lot today, to me,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: this is the best pro Membu argument for the Membu people.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: The pro Membo argument is that no matter what, Membu
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: is a tackle, he might be a right tackle, but
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: he's gonna play tackle, so he's either your left tackle
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: or he's right tackle in the future. Morgan Moses is
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: thirty four years old. Either way, he's there's a path
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: for him to be a starting NFL tackle. For Will Campbell,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: the backup plan is guard. So in theory, Membo would
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: have a little bit more value positionally than Will camp I.
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: Just think you shouldn't And I look, I get drafts
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: haven't gone here well last few years. Besides last year,
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: you shouldn't be drafting a player based off of what
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: is the worst case scenario, Like that's just drafting scared
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: to me. Yeah, because if Campbell hits, he's going to
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: be a better left tackle than Membo.
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: If he adds I think so.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: And somebodys say you shouldn't just draft for the ceiling either,
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: like there has to be a happy medium, which flying arguing, well,
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: if it all hits the fan, you'd rather end up
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: with the worst version of arm On Membo than the
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: worst version of Will Campbell. That's probably true, but you
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: shouldn't be drafting with that mentality. That's kind of sad
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: if that's how you're approaching it. Yeah, And honestly, if
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: you're gonna draft purely on four, then it's Ashton genty.
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Ashton gen is the highest floor of any of
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: these guys were talking about. So I do think that
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: that is it's an outside the box reason to take
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: armand Membu. Yeah, but it is the best case for
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Armel Membu, which is that he's going to play tackle.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: It just depends on which side of the formation he's
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: going to be on. At the same time, I grade
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: out Will Campbell higher at tackle than I grade out Membo. Right,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: And a couple of the other questions on Campbell and
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: Membu that I wanted to get to one other. I'm
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: sorry I lost the email, but I'll just ask the question,
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: was you know that Membu had better tape against the
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: same competition. They both were in the SEC, they both
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: went through the SEC gauntlet last year. The only pushback
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: I would have about that is that I don't think
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: that their past blocking reps were apples to apples. I
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: think Will Campbell had tougher assignments. I think Will Campbell
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: was left more consistently on an island without chip help,
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: without moving pockets, like straight NFL styled rop back passing,
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: compared to Membu, which I thought was a little bit
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: more helped out by Missouri.
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: And it's also Missouri's running more RPOs, more play action screens,
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: whereas it's it LSU was straight set the pocket. You
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: just set the pocket for a guy that had no
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: clue where to go in there. But yeah, I'm with
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: you on that.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a little bit of so PFF tracks true
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: pass sets. Yeah, that's the which takes out play action screen, RPO,
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: quick game and really measures like the dropbacks where the
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: quarterback actually has to hold the ball for a couple beats, right,
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: and you're really pass blocking like in an NFL level.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: Membo had almost I think it might have been one
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: hundred less true pass sets last year than Will Campbell
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: one hundred I think, which is a lot. So Campbell
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: by far had the most out of the top six tackles. Right, Yeah,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: it wasn't. There were a couple guys that were close,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: like Ursery I think was close, but he had the
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: most they ran, and then Membu had near the bottom.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: So when you talk about like apples to apples, with that,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: I do think that Campbell had the tougher job to do. Yes.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: The other question here from Aiden, which I think is
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: a good question, is that you hear a lot about
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: Membo and Banks and their upside and how they're younger players,
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: and you don't hear the same for Will Campbell, even
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: though he's a true junior as well and it is
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: coming out with a good athletic profile. I would just
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: say that the upside. People feel like the upside with
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: Campbell is tapped because of the length, like that's what
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: it is, like. They don't think because of history and
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: because of precedent. There isn't a ton of precedent of
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: a thirty three inch t arm tackle turning into an
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: all pro Like there just isn't a lot of that now.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: If you really want to be sunk in on Campbell.
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I think the one kind of rebuttal to that argument.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: They haven't really tried a lot of thirty three inch
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: arm tackles at tackle right. You know, it used to
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: be thirty four, so if you were anything under thirty four,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: you were automatically kicked inside until Rashawn Slater about five
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: years ago, you know, ten years ago, whatever that was,
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: and he kind of changed the threshold. So now you're
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: starting to see Rashawn Slater. The Colts have two tackles
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: that play it under thirty three inches. Smith and Bernard
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Raymond both play left and right tackle with sub thirty
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: three inch arms. Caleb McGarry plays right tackle with sub
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: thirty three inch arms. So there's our guys now at
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: the threshold has moved a little bit, that are doing
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: it a little bit more. But none of them have
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: been named to All Pro, Pro Bowl or anything like that.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: Raymond's probably the best player. Yeah, and he's coming the closest.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: And I well know Schlater was an All bro he
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: at thirty three.
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: At thirty three, Well, Campbell's at thirty three, So I think, no,
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: he is, don't laugh, he is, I'm laughing.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: I also think.
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: People are waiting to hear about the upside like after
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: last year, right, Marvin Harrison, and probably little too high
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: on Marvin Harrison, but like very good player.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: Yeah, people are kind of.
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: Waiting to hear about the Marvin Harrison joe all the
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: upside because the Patriots are picking that high. That's not
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: this draft. The players with that upside aren't there. So
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: Campbell's upside maybe isn't that of a typical top five
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: pick or you know, four or five sixty seven in
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: that range, assuming Carter and Hunter gone again, unless you want.
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: To take genty. Nobody has that upside in this draft.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: Nobody does.
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: So it's just again, this class is part of why
- 1:42:28Speaker 5: the bars just lower. Somebody shared earlier this morning was
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: at the twenty twelve NFL draft. The twenty thirteen Yeah,
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: we're like this draft could be like that. This draft
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: could very much be like that, where.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: That's DeAndre Hopkins went in like like twenty sixth or
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: something in that draft, which is.
- 1:42:46Speaker 5: Cristy, but I mean at the top, Eric Fisher, Luke Jokol,
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: Dion Jordan, Lane, Johnson, Ezekiel Onsen, Barcavius Mango, Jonathan Cooper,
- 1:42:52Speaker 5: Tevon Austin d Milner, Chance Warmack, I'll keep going DJ Fluker,
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: d J. Hayden right, and those are considered the best
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: players in the draft.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: Lane Johnson is the only good player right.
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: But like, and it's different because Eric Fisher went first overall,
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: Flip Lane Johnson Eric Fisher right if.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Lane Johnson went forward because at the time there was
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: still a stigma against left and right and Lane Johnson
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: was a right tackle, not a left tackle. He was
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: the best tackle in the draft, but he played right tackle,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: and so teams prioritize.
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: But again, it's like, if that's the kind of class,
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: if we find out ten years from now that that
- 1:43:24Speaker 5: was the class we were looking at, that level of
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: talent and they get a guy who starts, they get
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: a guy who's a solid starter for ten years. Yeah,
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: you feel pretty happy about that compared to what's around him.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Well, this is I was texting you about this yesterday
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: because I do listen to your station. This is what
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: Felger was saying all day yesterday was that he doesn't
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: think Will Campbell's were at the fourth pick, so he's
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: not just picking him. And I was like, I'm sorry,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: but you can't create a player in Madden and put
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: him into the draft so that you can create a
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: player that has higher upside than Will Campbell. Like, this
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: is the this is the group you're picking from. So
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: tell me who is the player that you feel is
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: better than Will Campbell? And I will probably disagree with you, frankly,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: because the point of the matter is is that all
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: these guys, once you get past Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: Ash and Genty aside, all these other guys are equal.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: They're all the same player to me, Bembo, Campbell, Graham, Warren, like,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: I all have them graded in one big cluster. And
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like we've been saying
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: for four months, Yeah, the position outweighs the rest of
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: it because there's no other way to displace it up,
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: there's no other way to slice the pie. Like, are
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: you gonna take an interior run stuffer in Mason Graham
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: or are you gonna take the position to need at
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: left tackle? You're gonna take the left tackle. Are gonna
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: take the tight end when you have Hunter Henry and
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: Austin Hooper? Or are you gonna take the left tackle?
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: You're gonna take the left tackle. So that's the type
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: of draft that we're in. That's the deal breaker in
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: a draft like this. Here's a question from Chris. He asks, Uh,
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: if you're there at thirty eight and Arianti Ursery and
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Josh Simmons are both on the board, which player are
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: you taking? I know, I know your answer to this.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: I think, I mean, if the medicals are clean, I'm
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: taking Simmons. But I'm worried about the medicals being clean.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: All Right, I'm surprised you wouldn't consider Simmons. I think
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Simmons is a better player than Nursery. The medical stuff
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: just scares me. Yeah. The other thing I wanted to
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: bring up about Simmons one of the tidbits that I
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: did feel like was worthy of that that was important
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: that Mike Frabele shared in the pre draft press conference. Uh.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: He was asked, I believe it was by Andrew Callahan, like,
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: what's the thing that you've learned about the draft from
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: your time in Tennessee. And in Tennessee they took a
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: number of injury risk players. Isaiah Wilson was both. He
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: was both an injury risk and a character risk. They
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: took a handful of those types of guys in Tennessee,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: and Rabel did point out that injury risk players, they
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: got burned by them in Tennessee, and he probably wouldn't
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: do that again. And if that's not Josh Simmons, and
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. Right like that, Josh
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Simon sounded Josh Simmons. Now, the only diferences is that
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: Josh Emmons went to his alma mater with Ryan Day,
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: who's a good friend of his, so like, maybe they
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: have better intel on the injury than he would normally.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: But that to me sounded a lot like Josh Simmons,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: do you want to play a little game. Let's play
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: a little game with one of these emails? Is just
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: one of the ones. We're gonna get myself in trouble again,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: I don't think so. Okay, So this is from Noah
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: and he basically wants to give me, have us give
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: our best argument for and against a couple of different
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: players that are against consensus, like not guys that people
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: have them taking normally Mason Graham four and against.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: Born against four like for the Patriots specifically, Yeah four.
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: You know, you either get Christian Barmore insurance or you're
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: just freaking so athletic upfront with him and Barmore and
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: Milton Williams, Like, there's not a lot of offensive lines
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: that are built to handle that athleticism. The case against
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: is assuming Barmore is healthy and you know, knock On Wood,
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: it's very early, but he's in the building. It's great
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: all that. If he is healthy. He's not coming off
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: the field. Milton Williams isn't coming off the field Keon White.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: I don't think it's coming off the field.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: You're using the.
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: Fourth overall pick on a guy that's going to be
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: a rotational player, using on a guy that's probably not
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: gonna be on the field a ton at least initially.
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: They need that first round pick to be an impact
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: player right away, or you're knocking somebody else out of
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: the lineup who has proven more so they can be
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: an impact player.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the four argument is exactly what you said.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: That is a game wrecking defensive line like Keon White,
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: Milton Williams, Christian Barmore, Mason Graham is a heck of
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: a group.
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: How much are you gonna be able to put all
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: those like justify putting those four guys on the field
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: at the same time.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Yep, that's fair. It could go one of two ways. Yeah,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: it's either the Philadelphia Eagles, where you just have waves
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: of talent on the defensive line to send at people,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: or it's the Washington football team circa you know, twenty
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: nineteen where they use like a bunch of first round
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: picks on Alabama defensive lineman and all the only strength
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: of their ross was their defensive line and they stunk
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: everywhere else. Right, So those are the four and those
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: are the against you're really putting all your eggs, and
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: we're gonna be this dominant upfront team on defense and
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: we're just not gonna give up any points in a.
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: Draft that's so good at defensive tackle. I think you
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: can if you want to recreate what the Eagles had,
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: or even you go is I somebody sent me the
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: because the thing about, well, do the Giants real they
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: want to add Noal Carter because they have all these
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: pass rushers. You know, somebody like, yeah, I missed the
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: NASCAR defense. Yeah, Like, if you want to recreate that,
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: I think you can get guys later in the draft
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: to do that. You don't have to do that at four.
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: This is an interesting one. It's not gonna happen, but
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: it's just for the sake of the exercise for or
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: against Jahati Baron Baron from Texas.
- 1:48:41Speaker 5: I mean it's kind of like Mason Graham, where like,
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: if you have Gonzalez and Carlton Davis on the outside,
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: I think Baron's can play the slot. Right, If you
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: have those two on the outside and Jaday Baron in
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: the slot. Yeah, if Baron is the player people think
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: he is, that might be the best cornerback trio in
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: the league.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: Do you really want to allocate all your resources that
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: heavily to that one position?
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: Yeah? And I shouldn't mention this is obviously would be
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: in a trade. That be a trade now, Yeah, to
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: get Baron, your argument for and against her are solid. Again, four,
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: you have a nickel corner to complete the secondary. Yeah,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: that is a complete group with Gonzalez, Carlton Davis and Baron.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: Barn reminds me a ton of Brian Branch. I think
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: he can play the nickel. I can think he can
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: play a little bit of safety, physical, feisty, corner ballhowker
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: you know, all around the football a ton That would
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: be a great, great group against Again, it's same thing,
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: as Mason Graham, you just had a lot of resources
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: sunk in the corner. You might not give up a
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: completion on defense, but you're not gonna be able to
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: score on offense either, so it's not gonna matter. Yeah,
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: that's the against all right, last one here, which is
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: interesting but again probably not gonna happen. But fun Jalen
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: Milroe at thirty eight four and against. I can't really
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: make a case for that. I can't either, And people
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: are gonna say, well, he'd be a good wide receiver.
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: No, he's gonna get chance play quarterback. Yeah, and I
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: think he has a chance to to, you know, make
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: plays there.
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: At the end of camp, somebody's quarterback gets hurt, you
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: maybe flip them, like if you take him at thirty eight.
- 1:50:15Speaker 5: Maybe somebody gets desperate for a quarterback and gives you
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: a first round pick next year because they really need one.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: I'm really reaching here. No, I don't have one.
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: That's a tough one.
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: I do. I did like the exercise, but that was
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: the one I couldn't. I couldn't. It's a thinker. I
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: almost didn't even say it. I don't have before obviously
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: obvious again, sir obvious. So you have Drake May and
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: you don't need another quarterback. It's the Madden move where.
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: The only good enfranchise, the only good player in the draft,
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: or the best player in the draft is a position
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: you already have loaded, but you draft him because you
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: can just trade him immediately after the draft. But that's
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: not how the real world works. Here's a case for Madden,
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: but not in really.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: A couple more emails, then we'll take these last calls
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: and we'll wrap it up. So Ashton, Canada rites in
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: with two prospects he's surprised that we don't hear more
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: about related to the Patriots. One is Walter Nolan, the
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: three technique from Ole, miss The other one is one
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: of our favorites, Jihad Campbell from Alabama. So Walter Nolan
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: tapes a little streaky on Walter Nolan, but he's a
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: good player, and I think that he's gonna be a
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: good player in the pros if a team can get
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: his motor on, turn that switch on permanently and not
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: let it go right, which I thought at times it
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: did watching his tape. But a penetrating three technique, it's
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: the same thing with Mason Graham, Like, how many more
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: interior penetrating defensive lineman can you possibly have on one roster? Right?
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: You have Milton Williams. You think you're gonna have Christian
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: Barr Moore, you have Keon White, Like, they're all kind
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: of the same type of player, same type of position overlap. Yeah,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: it just is the same kind of argument. Giodd Campbell
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: is an interesting one. He has the shoulder issue. He
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: had surgery on his shoulder recently, like really recently, right
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: after the combine, I want to say, and there is
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: some doubt that he'll be ready to go to start
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: the season. He could start the year on PUP. If
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: he does start the year on pp and people have
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: issues with the shoulder, Like, I see they're at thirty eight,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: and do you start to entertain g Hot Campbe because
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: I think he's a first rounder all day. Yeah, but
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: the injury might push him down.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: See that's where more comfortable taking the risks with an
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: injury player. It's also a shoulder, it's not like a
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: knee or an ankle. Right, Yeah, I like get Campbell.
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: I think the reason we haven't talked and I really
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: like Walter Nolan. I think did Trager have him go
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: in like eleven or twelve.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna go high this morning. He's Gonnai people
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: team sniffing around.
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: That's the guy Trags keeps texting me about for Cincinnati.
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: Walter Nolan. Yeah, we haven't talked about him, just because
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: he's in between. Like it'd be a trade way down
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: or a trade way up. If Campbell falls, I'd probably
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: take him. I take the risk on the injury him.
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: Robert Splane, those guys are gonna crack skulls. There a
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: second level that'd be a really fun group. That's a
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: case where as much as we've heart we've harped on
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: drafting for knee throughout this process, there are certain guys
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: that are just so good, especially later on, Like if
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: they don't feel like they if they get the tackle
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: for they don't feel like they're pressed to get a receiver. Yeah,
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: Gihad Cambc's are a really good football Player's nothing wrong
- 1:53:07Speaker 5: with adding a guy like that.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: I'd be really I'm interested to see. I think there's
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: an argument, and I'm not necessarily saying I'm making it,
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: but there is an argument Jalen Walker versus Gihod Campbell,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Like I think that's maybe a little bit closer than
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: some people make it out.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: I think Walker is the higher ceiling and that's why
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: he's getting more looks. But like because he's a tweener
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: and there's more development there, Giodd Campbell's gonna come in
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: right away and be a damn good linebacker.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: I just think Giodd Campbell's got a little bit more
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: size and a little bit more length. Like I think
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: his edge rushing tape might actually be better than Jalen Walker.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: He reminds me of like Levonte David. I could see that. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: I think it's really.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: His rushing tape is good. Which stands out to me
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: is he's such a good coverage linebacker. Yeah, like in
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: space and there are not, you know, not every not
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: a lot of Fred Warners flowing around the league, and
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: that maybe a little lofty of a camp but on
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: my comp yeah, Tremaine Edmonds, Oh yeah, okay.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Yeah, really athletic. He's got that like soccer goalie thing
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: going on, where like you got to throw around him
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: in the middle of the field of the great wingspan. Uh,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: extremely good in space, smart coverage, can spy quarterbacks. Yeah,
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: good football player. All right, Pedro in Brazil. It's a
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: big market for US now these days, alex So shout
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: out to Brazil. Uh, he said, outside of the first round,
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: who would you put your money on that? At the
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: end of the draft, this player will be a Patriot.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: This is the Jack Sawyer question. I'm just gonna say it.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the obviously. Now I'm gonna go.
- 1:54:36Speaker 5: Look, the only guy so I try not to double
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: up in mock drafts the last couple of years, I
- 1:54:41Speaker 5: have in the first round because they're picking so high
- 1:54:43Speaker 5: with Drake May and Will Campbell. This year, there's only
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: one other guy Wh've doubled up on in the last
- 1:54:47Speaker 5: two years, Yeah, in mock drafts.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: And that is Drew Kendall. Yeah, so I think I
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: kind of have to say Drew Kendall. Yeah, that's a
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: good one. Jacksaw is a good one to Jack Sawyer.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: Drew Kendo obviously, big oz Ozzi Trapilo from Boston College.
- 1:55:00Speaker 5: So I don't think so because he's a right tackle. No,
- 1:55:03Speaker 5: not because I don't think they like him. I think
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: he's gonna go kind of higher than people expect. Yeah,
- 1:55:08Speaker 5: and I don't know that he's gonna go where they
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: would take him. He might go between thirty eight and sixty.
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: They're not gonna take him at thirty eight, it's too
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: I he might go before sixty nine and they might
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: not have a chance to get him. So he's another
- 1:55:21Speaker 5: donut guy. I think they'd love to take him.
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: I think he's their kind of guy. If it's profile.
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: He's at BC with Moron and all that. Yeah, and
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: he would be a good pick if they If you
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: fall sixty nine, yeah, I wonder if somebody else is
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: going to ruin that for them.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: Fair enough? All right, let's take these last two calls,
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: and then we got to wrap it up. I know
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: we got a ton of emails and then we really
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: appreciate it, and I'm sorry that we didn't get to
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: all of them, but there's just too many. So we'll
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: get to some of them next week maybe. But Eldred
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: is in North Carolina? What's up? Eldred? Good question?
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: Make it real quick. I four, I want to trade
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: up to get him.
- 1:56:01Speaker 10: Would y'all take that trade?
- 1:56:02Speaker 6: Or would you do a big gent?
- 1:56:04Speaker 8: And then what are y'all hearing about Darian Porter?
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: Is he?
- 1:56:09Speaker 8: Uh?
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: Third round round? Boss Jack?
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: And I take it off.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Who is that? I think it was Darian Porter, you said,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: Aldrin the corner corner back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks for
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: call Aldrick appreciated. Uh. First question was about genty right, Yeah.
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: Would you take the trader? Would you take him? If
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: it's a good trade I'm taking.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: I would take the trades, yep. I would take the
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: trade first and then I and then uh maybe think
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: about taking gent but I take the trade, yep. And uh.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: Darian Porter really good athlete.
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: This is the kind of guy.
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: If they they don't need a boundary corner, that's like
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: the lowest position in need. But if they, if they
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: hadn't signed Carlton Davis, you guys would have been sick
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: of hearing me talk about Darian Porter.
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: You know how ages I am.
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: He's gonna be twenty four year old.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: Okay, reminds me of Quall and a lot though a
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: little bit of trek walling in his game. How long
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: it took that guy to care to matter?
- 1:56:56Speaker 7: Though?
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: Like one, no, no, Darian, Like this is the only
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: year that he started full time in Iowa. That's true.
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: Like he he literally he's the definition of like I mean,
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: did block three punts while these planets I am a
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: man amongst boys, like I am twenty four years old
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: playing against nineteen year olds, and they shows. That's the
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: only thing I'd worry about. With Darien Porter, I didn't.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: He also didn't play a ton of man to man,
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: and I at Iowa. He's more of like a zone corner. Yeah,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: but really really good.
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: He's gonna go to Vegas and be nasty.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: Yeah, a good good comp to Grequelle. Craig is in
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: Ohio but originally from Providence. What's up, Craig?
- 1:57:32Speaker 10: Hey, how you doing?
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:57:35Speaker 10: All right?
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: So I have twoth eggs that quit. First thing is
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: is I'll be in from Rhode isowad not having a
- 1:57:42Speaker 6: college man living out here in Ohio. That's all I
- 1:57:45Speaker 6: hear about.
- 1:57:45Speaker 8: All day long, and it's annoying.
- 1:57:48Speaker 6: Nomber two. I hear everybody's case against Will Campbell. But
- 1:57:55Speaker 6: my thing I always come back to is I always
- 1:57:58Speaker 6: say that he only gave up four stacks. So what
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: is the case for him being a guard if he's
- 1:58:02Speaker 6: only given up four sacks?
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: Yeah? Thanks for the call, Craig. I think this in general,
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: and this is not a Will Campbell take. This is
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: a general take. I don't really believe that the production base,
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: like the charting metrics for college tackles, I don't think
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: that that holds much weight going to the NFL because
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: so much of that is fluffed up by screens and
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: RPOs and quick game throws and all this kind of
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: stuff that doesn't necessarily happen at the same volume as
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: the at the NFL level. Like armand Membu gave up
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: eight pressures the entire season last year at Missouri eight
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: all hurries, no sacks, no quarterback hits. But how many
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: of those dropbacks were screens? How many of those dropbacks
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: were bootlegs? How many of those dropbacks were RPOs? Right,
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: So a lot of those metrics are not exactly We
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: don't see a ton of that being predictive like that.
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: That is, this guy gave up x amount of saxon college,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: so he's going to be a good pro. The data
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: would tell you that it's not necessarily predictive like that,
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: So you just have to keep that stuff in mind.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: All right, last call here, Cuba is in Atlanta. What's up, Cuba?
- 1:59:15Speaker 13: Hey, I wanted to act about jalend. Nobody heres asked
- 1:59:19Speaker 13: the vote or said what kind of gets shorter? In
- 1:59:21Speaker 13: the ready has so we'll that affect him. We will
- 1:59:25Speaker 13: go to affect a steam on what they do tomorrow.
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: I think that all right, Thanks for the call, so
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: Jalen Polk. I think we're all in the boat, at
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: least me personally. I guess I should say of expecting
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: the worst and hoping for the best, Like I hope
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: that he can that last year was you know, an aberration,
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: and he breaks out this year, and I hope that
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: it works out. I do. Uh. There's not a lot
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: of precedent for a receiver being really uh, non contributor
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: as a rookie and then suddenly block coming into a
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: really productive player. There just isn't there's guys that have
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: done it. You know, DeVante Adams is always kind of
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: the poster child for this. But DeVante Adams put up
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: some numbers as a rookie, like he had some production.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: You hear a lot about like the five hundred yard club,
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: Like if you hit five hundred yards as a rookie,
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: you're on your way to being a really good NFL player.
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: There's just not a ton of president for guys that
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: have caught as few passes as Jalen Polk going on
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: to be productive NFL players. I think at this point
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: you can safely say Jalen Polk's ceiling is probably like
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: on an NFL roster.
- 2:00:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, look, I don't think they need a
- 2:00:36Speaker 5: rush to move on from them. Bring him into camp,
- 2:00:37Speaker 5: see where he's at. But yeah, I don't think he
- 2:00:39Speaker 5: necessarily cement many plans or anything.
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely, all right, that does it for today's show.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: I wish we could get to all these emails, but
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: we'd be here for another hour and we just can't
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: swing that. So I apologize to all the emailers that
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: emailed in and we weren't able to get to you.
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: But we'll be back next week and we'll recap the draft.
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: It will be a big show. We'll go pick bike
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: pick like we always do and recap the draft one
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: at a time, and hopefully there'll be plenty of discussion
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: about what the Patriots do over the next couple of
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: days for us next week. But until next time, do
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: you have to shout out our friends at bud Light.
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: It's easy to drink, easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. Alex and
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: I are going to need a bud light on Sunday.
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: I think maybe ten bud lights on Sunday. All right, guys,
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: we'll see you next week. Enjoy the Draft.
- 2:01:27Speaker 3: Joy the Draft.
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: Hey, this is Fred. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 2:01:33Speaker 11: If you really want to help us, make sure that
- 2:01:35Speaker 11: you like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple
- 2:01:38Speaker 11: Podcasts or Spotify, and also make sure you follow us

- 2:01:45Speaker 11: show in everything else that we do here at the Patriots.
