- 1:34City, and Tatiana King the Conqueror, the Book of Ashanti, the Wrath
- 1:38of Khan Chu doc Aki to Jalla Bred who else? I feel like I
- 1:45just want to name them all. Now I didn't get in and the King
- 1:49of the North. There we go, I didn't get in my new one.
- 1:53What is it? Dar ben Hamen? Yes, d yes, yes,
- 1:57yes, big up dar ben HAMI grills all about them grills yes,
- 2:05So Darbanja mean fitting name because we last night got to see The Marvels.
- 2:12The Marvels opens wide on November tenth, right, which is this Friday.
- 2:16So we talked a lot about in our other shows. We talked a lot
- 2:20about how like it was a late screening, so we didn't know what to
- 2:22make of ITV that was a good sign, a bad sign. We obviously
- 2:25have our thoughts. We did some preliminary social media comments and I think you
- 2:31guys are gonna be surprised by what you hear from us, and guessing this
- 2:36will be a pretty much a spoiler review. We're gonna keep it like you
- 2:42know, we're not gonna get it. We're not going to there's a major
- 2:46post credit scenes that I don't think I want to spoil. Potentially, it's
- 2:51too early, I would say, tred lightly. I like, we're going
- 2:54to what we tend to do when we do our reviews. We tend to
- 2:59talk about general themes and maybe story arcs if there are any characterizations. We
- 3:06try not to say exactly things that happen as much as we can because also,
- 3:10like you may not know what we're talking about anyway, so I don't
- 3:14know what. We try to keep it together. But this is the warning
- 3:16if you just don't want to hear about it whatsoever, Like if you don't
- 3:20even want even an inkling of anything before you get to watch a movie,
- 3:23then you might want to wait. Take this with a grain of salt.
- 3:25I'm warning you now. Otherwise, just listening, because we are going to
- 3:29tell you how we feel about the aspects of the movie and whether we liked
- 3:32it or not. Yeah, So before ben, before we get into any
- 3:40specifics from a high level, did you enjoy this film? The Marvel's directed
- 3:49by Nia Dacasta, starring Since We're told on this starring Iman Vallani, as
- 3:55Kamala Khan, Miss Marvel, Tianna Paris as Monica Rambau, and Relarson returning
- 4:00as Carol Denvers Captain Marble on that I enjoyed this movie. Mm hmm.
- 4:11I enjoyed parts of this film. I would say that I thought overall,
- 4:15let's let's say, okay, overall, off the top, I would give
- 4:18it about a a beat C plus. Yeah, yeah, A good.
- 4:30I think I think your mileage will vary on this film too. I think
- 4:32that's what it is too. I think it might be geared a bit younger
- 4:38than I was expecting, and that being said, I think it might work
- 4:42for that. But I also feel like it's not one of those films where
- 4:45it worked on multiple levels, where it's like you know that you know it
- 4:48can work for a younger child as well as the adults. I think for
- 4:53the adults it might be a little bit of goofy and silly and kind of
- 4:57just lightweight. I guess, you know, not substantial. I guess said
- 5:02the word Okay, I hear what you're saying. I know what you mean.
- 5:05I would I enjoyed this movie, just point blank period. I enjoyed
- 5:10it. I thought the Marvels was a lot of fun. Using your letter
- 5:14grade rating, I would give it a B plus maybe a minus. It
- 5:17was a higher for me. And unfortunately, because of so much vitual and
- 5:24hate spewed on this movie before anyone said boo, anyone said a word that,
- 5:30it unfortunately clouded a lot of people's minds like, oh my god,
- 5:33this is you know, we're going to be in trouble. Oh my god,
- 5:36it's going to be another thor love and thunder. At least in my
- 5:39head, I was like, I don't want it to be that. That
- 5:42movie I did not enjoy, okay, and also I did not really particularly
- 5:46like the Captain Marvel film. I gave it like a C minus. I
- 5:53did not like the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel characterization of the first film. I
- 5:59did not connect with her. I I'm fortunate. I felt like it was
- 6:03a film made for white women, and I just what it wasn't It didn't.
- 6:09It didn't do it for me, to be very honest, you and
- 6:12of course that doesn't And that all being said, none of that, that
- 6:14didn't mean that Breed and all these other people should have received the hate and
- 6:16the in the backlash that they did. But that's how I felt about Katain
- 6:20Marvel. My concerns about how I felt about that movie and that characterization were
- 6:27completely turned around for me in The Marvels, Okay. I felt the Marvels
- 6:32were so strong in its ensemble cast. I felt that the additions of Tianna
- 6:39Powis, Monica Rambo, and In Manvellani together all three they were extremely extremely
- 6:45strong. And for me, the breakout star and the real draw of the
- 6:50Marvels was actually a man Velani as an actor period, but also her her
- 6:58Miss Marvel. That was the big gets drawn in The Marvels. For me,
- 7:00that was the absolute heart of the film, her and her family because
- 7:04as you guys know from all the trailer's, the family is in this as
- 7:08well. But that is really what keeps you engaged the most during the movie.
- 7:13Overall, I just thought it was a solid film. Was it the
- 7:16best Marral movie? No? Was it the worst? Absolutely not. I
- 7:19just think that they have a good movie here. I would absolutely recommend it
- 7:24to people. While I have notes in questions and concerns and things that I
- 7:31felt did not work, overall, I felt very good about this film.
- 7:35I would probably recommend it as well. And I wouldn't recommend it for those
- 7:41who are, as they say, looking for answers or any of that thing,
- 7:46you know, those who are like, oh, what's how to suspend
- 7:48it to that? And where are we gonna be in phase five? And
- 7:51oh, now I can candy see the picture. If you're doing any of
- 7:54that, I would not recommend this film. I would recommend it if you
- 7:57want a good family fun you know, uh, not that long. Really,
- 8:03that's one thing. It's only an hour and a half. It's a
- 8:05yeah, you know, quick, light and lighthearted. So if you want
- 8:09a lighthearted film, this is definitely that. And yes, I everything you
- 8:15just laid out, I mean, going back to the first Captain Marvel about
- 8:18it being a white woman feminist film, a going too, you know,
- 8:22and MANI I mean my just being a absolute superstar. Like we said this,
- 8:28you can go back and listen to our views of the Miss Marvel series
- 8:31where we gushed over it, where we talked to the show runner, where
- 8:35we just constantly talked about how this young woman is the future of Marvel,
- 8:41Like we called her the new Robert Downey junior, you know, like she
- 8:45is the centerpiece of the future of Marvel. To me like and I'm feeling
- 8:50that even much more strongly now like for me, her first of all,
- 8:54her Disney Plus TV show performed way better than all the other subsequent shows have
- 9:00been coming out thus far. So and not just in performance in terms of
- 9:03reception, critical reception, audience reception, but also just in terms of,
- 9:07as we always complained about, where is the story, where's the characters?
- 9:11Where are the arc? Miss Marvel was probably one of the last Marvel shows
- 9:18in the last one year or so to me that have really hit the mark
- 9:22on all facets. There are shows that there's certain things that are okay about
- 9:26it, but then other things fell flat for me in the most recent memory,
- 9:28but Miss Marvel really did that for me, and because of the strength
- 9:31of that show and the strength of them actually taking components from that show and
- 9:35placing it in the Marvels and also really lending and you can see like there
- 9:41was a full swallow of support in the writing for Miss Marvel in the Marvels,
- 9:48for for Amava Lani's again, her way of doing that character, her
- 9:52way of bringing that character to life like that was full force in this film,
- 9:56and I think that lent a huge lifting hand to why for me,
- 10:01the Marvels as a film worked very well. Yeah, I fully agree.
- 10:05I mean I cannot deny any of that. You know, I fully agree
- 10:07with all of that. I think Mom just kills it. I think her
- 10:09family absolutely destroys it. You know, when you were just talking, I
- 10:13was just laughing at myself. Were in hell. He has you know,
- 10:18like and uses and that's and that's why one of the other is why the
- 10:24the Miss Marvel TV show was so good because it, yes, it's about
- 10:30fantastical things happening, but also, you know, to quote Don Toretto,
- 10:33like yeah, but it wasn't in a cheesy way either. It was like,
- 10:37this is something real. This is what would happen if a typical family,
- 10:41and in this case of Pakistani family, but a typical family. Color
- 10:46found out that you were a superhero and you're trying to hide in this that
- 10:48and happen and you're in Jersey City, So that that understanding was all there.
- 10:52And as mentioned it was they they follow suit within the Marvels, so
- 10:56you had so while it was great if you had seen that show as well
- 11:01as WandaVision everything else, while it was great if you did not have that
- 11:03background, they still were very smartly incorporated a lot of those threads into the
- 11:11very opening of the Marvel so that you were caught up and in line with
- 11:16what was happening, even if you never watch any of the previous stuff.
- 11:18Yeah, And I really want to give them a shout out for that,
- 11:22because that was one of the crazy that YEAH people had going in was how
- 11:26were they going to if you hadn't seen WandaVision which introduced or Captain Marvel or
- 11:33or Miss Marvel, how will be caught upon all these characters and where they're
- 11:35at right now? And I thought it was pretty brilliant. I have to
- 11:39say with the are you well done? Because Miss Marvel was well done.
- 11:43And then Monica rambaut Is caught up with Carrol and the audience and pretty much
- 11:48one hilarious line one really just sums out the wildness of WandaVision in one line,
- 11:54yes, and catches you up to where Monica is right now. And
- 11:58so I thought that it's really well done. I have to give them credit.
- 12:01Yes, So anyone, so all that stupid shit about oh how they
- 12:07gonna how they gonna connect everything and you need to have seen seen ten hours
- 12:11of other stuff to understand. That's you don't, no, don't. You
- 12:15can come in it as clean and pure with nothing else on you, and
- 12:18you will. You will still get it like they literally and they do it
- 12:20as Ben I mean said in a very expert fashion. I will give it
- 12:24up to them and in a way that anybody can understand with no context,
- 12:28no context. Yeah, And I think that was a very you know,
- 12:31very well done on their part, because that was a lot of heavy lifting
- 12:35that they had to get through to get this done and get it to a
- 12:39point where you can just enjoy this film. And there has been that complaint
- 12:41where people are like, oh, there's too much Marvel, now I gotta
- 12:43watch this, and that's and I really feel like this film does not require
- 12:48you to do any of that. And even more so than like we're wrong
- 12:52division, I mean where a Doctor Strange multiverse a madness When you watch that,
- 12:56and if you've watched one division, it's kind of like what the fuck
- 12:58kind of yeah, well, I mean Wanda was a villain in Wanda Vision,
- 13:01and she stays a villain in Docta Strang correct, So it does Pernett
- 13:05for the most part. This is more so where if you walk. If
- 13:09you didn't watch Miss marvel stuff, you're just caught up instantly. This family
- 13:13is dope as fuck. You get them. They're hilarious. Their interactions with
- 13:16Kamala are so great. So I think this did a very good job of
- 13:22that. And it'specially for it only being an hour and a half. Like,
- 13:26yeah, the other thing I want to debunk about this film that and
- 13:30again this is this is more like in Cel foolishness, but like, oh,
- 13:33it's your feminist room, where I said earlier about how one of the
- 13:39reasons why I actually did not like Captain Marvel the first film was because I
- 13:43felt like it was very like white women kind of girl power type of approach
- 13:48to it, and it was and it was overly done and it was like
- 13:52super super obvious, and it's just it just for me, it didn't track
- 13:56this. The Marvels is not this hyper feminist thing that people are making it
- 14:01out to be. And again I just liken it to the whole as I
- 14:05mentioned in celf Foolishness, because it's like you see more than one woman and
- 14:07all of a sudden it's feminist agenda and I'm just like, go sit down,
- 14:11this is not what there are a breath of women in this film.
- 14:16It is is led by women. It's actually mostly women in the film.
- 14:20It's this whole women taking over the world. Like, No, and if
- 14:24you, first of all you feel that way, you're weird. And secondly,
- 14:28that's just not what this film is about. The Marvels is not about
- 14:31that. And and that weird approach that people are saying that that you know,
- 14:35this is about racial men and blah blah, nigga, we not even
- 14:39think about you, Like, that's not what this is. So and and
- 14:41I just want to make that very clear. So that's just something else to
- 14:45debunk. As we mentioned, you know, you don't need to have all
- 14:48the background story. No, this is not some feminist agenda film. No,
- 14:50this is actually While there were points where I had questioned there was nothing
- 14:56that was overly cheesy girl power to me in this they it was. It
- 15:00was actually cute and made sense, particularly in the in the certain sequences that
- 15:03they came up in. So I just wanted to mention that stuff and no,
- 15:07thank you for doing that. And I also want to say give a
- 15:09shout out to Genisia f who says their podcast is a womanist race podcast.
- 15:15And I always like that word more than feminists because I'm also more of a
- 15:20humanist side, where I'm a person who believes that, you know, humanity
- 15:22needs to be equal for things to work out on this planet. Otherwise,
- 15:28as we have seen, we're screwed. So this idea that like you said,
- 15:31this, oh, this is a you know, man bashing film or
- 15:35something of some bullshit, because honest, somebody nobody's thinking about you bro and
- 15:39me watching it. I didn't even think about that once, and it wasn't
- 15:43until you bring it up that I'm like, oh, yeah, the antagonist
- 15:46is a woman. The three protagonists are all women. You didn't even think
- 15:48about it. It's just like, oh shit, now that you mentioned it.
- 15:52Yeah, most people that you saw, like for the first whatever,
- 15:54they were all women. Are right cool. You didn't even And that's my
- 15:56point when I said it didn't feel like heavy handed, deliberate, like it's
- 16:00just about the power of women's doing together. Who run the world? Girls?
- 16:03It's not that this is not that it is it is by virtue of
- 16:08the power that they show, of the camaraderie and family and all that shit.
- 16:12Yes, it does give that give that understanding, but it's not that
- 16:17story book you know, after school special type thing that people are trying to
- 16:19make it or certain people may try to make it out to be. No,
- 16:23not at all. Yeah, I fully agree there. I think it's
- 16:26a little more even heavy handed, and it's it's more heavy hand in the
- 16:30family. Yeah, especially as you as we can, as you go into
- 16:34the film deeper, like towards the I would say, the second half of
- 16:37the film, that's when it starts really getting a little bit a little bit
- 16:41fast and furious, and it's like, all right, I get it,
- 16:44you know, but but nothing to me while they and we'll talk about it
- 16:48soon about the things that I have notes on, the things that issues I
- 16:51had to me, there was enough fun and entertainment that it it just overrode
- 16:56those concerns. One thing, I guess this is also like a and we'll
- 17:02talk about the characters as well, but just kind of just staying on that
- 17:04path of like debunking or just confirming how you felt the special effects. What
- 17:11did you feel about the special effects? Man? I mean, all right,
- 17:15now this is where we start to get into some of my more where
- 17:19I was a little more critical of the film in this part. And this
- 17:23is just in general, man, it's not it has Sadly, it has
- 17:29little to do in Nea DaCosta. I think this is just marvel man,
- 17:33like, yeah, it's nothing to do with you. People have really pointed
- 17:36this out one light. Their color palette is very weird. It's very bland.
- 17:40Sometimes it's muted. It's muted, and it's super muted white. It's
- 17:42so muted to be like reds and blues, and yeah, reds and blues
- 17:45look more dirty then they look bright and colorful, and and especially in the
- 17:51opening. And then we saw this in Imax, right, and I was
- 17:53thinking about that when I came home, because this is like one of the
- 17:56illis Imax theaters, the Lincoln. It's huge. It's one of the best
- 18:00I've ever been in my life, honestly, and it's one of the best.
- 18:03I've looked it up in New York and it I didn't feel anything like
- 18:07that. There's this one fire ass shot of Breed leaving her ship and it's
- 18:12like upside down. It's really dope. Other than that, man, I
- 18:15was really like, and now that I do have to say, it's nia,
- 18:18and that gets into something else. I want to get the direction of
- 18:22how they shot her like floating and stuff and everything Nia comes from and this
- 18:29is we've distressed this on the show before, right. One thing that I
- 18:32love about Nea the Costa's career is that she is doing this thing that a
- 18:34lot of white men in this industry get to do. It's like they'll do
- 18:37a very small independent film that's very character driven, usually one or two people
- 18:42and you know, small locations everything, and then after that they get the
- 18:47biggest movies in the world, Like Colin Trevor Row did a very small independent
- 18:52film, turn around gets Jurassic World, and it's like, what the fuck,
- 18:56why did you deserve that? You know, after that? But why
- 19:00not? Why? But okay, for the white man is why not every
- 19:03time? Now for the black woman, it's never that Now. Nia,
- 19:06you know, did her little small film which I love with Tessa Thompson,
- 19:10very character driven, very dope movie, and then she turned around to The
- 19:14Candy Man. I really did not enjoy that film pretty much at all.
- 19:18And I think one thing is that a lot, not a lot these directors.
- 19:22Right, there's people like Steven Spielberg who their very first independent films are
- 19:26very action. You know, this is what they do. You know,
- 19:30this is what they are living for. That's their eye. How everything,
- 19:33Like his first film is this movie dual about some truck drivers, and it's
- 19:37a you know, it's got all the Steven Spielberg characteristics that you know,
- 19:41and people like James carmeron. You know, they've all His first big film
- 19:45is Terminator, and now it's a Terminator for its time. The budget is
- 19:48very small, but you see all the stuff that Cameron is going to later,
- 19:52you know, be worldwide known for now. Nia did this very small
- 19:56independent film and then they turn around to give her candy Man, which is
- 20:00definitely more you know, small stuff, but it's more feats all this big
- 20:03budget. And then you get the Marvels, which is action, huge,
- 20:08boombastic moments and stuff. And I don't I feel like these directors and these
- 20:15companies need to really make a focus on like Okay, if this person is
- 20:19the character person, then have them have a stunt team that's going to bake
- 20:23this shit crazy. And I don't really feel that with the Marvels. It
- 20:27was more like the character stuff is great, the action stuff is like okay,
- 20:34I go ahead, yeah, one last thing on that, Like with
- 20:37that pallet of stuff, especially in the beginning, Like when the introduction that
- 20:41we have the villain finding one of the Bengals that she's looking for, it
- 20:45looked like a set and a lot of it looked like, yeah, you
- 20:49know, and they're supposed to be in space and this is supposed to be
- 20:52this grand thing. Even Captain Marvel when she's floating in space of points,
- 20:56it just it doesn't feel grand. And that's what the I feel this is
- 21:02missing, even batt to Brie and Carol Danvers when she's in the End Game
- 21:10and Infinity War or whatever, when she really shows up an in game and
- 21:12she's blasting through ships, it's this moment, you know, in this I
- 21:17really didn't get that moment where it's like, yo, that's Captain Marvel.
- 21:22Yeah, she ain't one to f with, and that goes for her,
- 21:25that goes for Monica Rambo, who, while I definitely feel like she had
- 21:30a much better turnout and here than she didn't want the vision Again. It's
- 21:33like, you have to nerve these two because they're so powerful. But then
- 21:40that's my thing. Marvel has antagonists who can be on their level. Why
- 21:44not use one of them instead of making it where they just don't serve this
- 21:48fool in five seconds, because they should have served this fool in five seconds.
- 21:52Yeah, I'm gonna work on my way backwards because I do want to
- 21:56answer that question about fex and all other stuff. But I that's one of
- 22:00my biggest gripes with Marvel to date is the nerving of the power set and
- 22:06also the inconsistent, the highly inconsistent illustrations of power sets and then combinations or
- 22:15or or comparisons thereof the goombinish thereof, right, Like, I have a
- 22:22huge problem of that because when I talk about inconsistent, they truly decide to
- 22:26pick and choose when they're going to show how powerful a character is or how
- 22:30not powerful, as long as it fits within the narrative of that of that
- 22:34film or that story, and I think or that scene. Right sometimes within
- 22:38the scene of the same story, the power sets will change or the power
- 22:44levels will change, and that is a huge concern. Yeah, problem for
- 22:48me because it's just like y'all pointed out last night. Yeah, and again
- 22:55we'll get we'll get all that detail. But I wanted to just make the
- 22:57mention that that is a problem because this has been a huge concern because I'm
- 23:03just like how do people then believe you? How do people then understand the
- 23:11magnitude or as you say, the scale and scope of something such as things
- 23:15happening within the I don't want to say, the confines, the vastness of
- 23:18space, of universes and galaxies. There's a point within the Marvels where literally
- 23:25Miss Marvel travels between galaxies. And I'm talking about, excuse me, Captain
- 23:32Marvel travels between galaxies on her own volition, you know, Captain Marlics,
- 23:34Y'alloka fly and all this other shit. And I don't think it's understood the
- 23:40magnitude of what she just did because it's not shown or it hasn't been expressed
- 23:45properly, just how insaneeness is. And there's another point again, I don't
- 23:49want to I'm not going to spoil that, but there's a point in the
- 23:52movie where she does something that literally only to use the old X Men reversence
- 23:57Omega level whatever, beyond the mago there's something she does that only a being
- 24:03of that level could do. Okay, we're talking about beings that can give
- 24:07life and death. There's only a certain certain thing that could be done.
- 24:11Yeah, but but yet a few, a few scenes prior. It's like
- 24:18it's like she's she's she's tussling with with right, She's tussling in the woods
- 24:23with a bear, and it's just like wait a minute. And not literally,
- 24:26guys, I'm just trying to give you an understanding of how like it
- 24:30doesn't make sense what Marvel does this, and it's and it's annoying to me.
- 24:34Oh my god. You know what, that would have made the flash
- 24:37better if in that scene Nick Cage had been wrestling with some polar bears,
- 24:41right, and again not being literal bears, And that's a reference from the
- 24:48Nick Cage Superman film. At one point, the producer said they needed more
- 24:52action in the film, and so Kevin Smith was writing it and he was
- 24:56like, well, we need some action. When he goes to the Fortress
- 24:57of Solitude and he say it's the solitude, that's why he goes like goddamn,
- 25:04like really, So he was like, well, we need to manchine.
- 25:07So Kevin Smith was like, all right, well, on page one
- 25:11five, Superman rastles some polar bears. Yeah, because they're there, right.
- 25:14But anyway, my whole point of my whole point of saying all that
- 25:17was I don't like how they only they use yeah, yeah, they use
- 25:26characters power levels just simply to fit that scene and then will change it up
- 25:32perhaps two scenes later. It's like, well, wait, I thought you
- 25:36were one of the most powerful beings out there. Why why why is you?
- 25:41Why is you going toe to toe with Scooby Doo. I don't know
- 25:42that scene you were talking about that It is like like holy shit, yeah
- 25:51like this, and again, this is not relegated just to the Marbles.
- 25:53This is relegated across I would say the least at least the last maybe at
- 25:57least five years. I don't know, because and also I say it makes
- 26:02sense that this is fire you because that's when they started introducing the god and
- 26:04celestial level beings, right, And I think they have a problem or they're
- 26:10sure of how to. I understand in certain reasons nerving certain characters because the
- 26:15truth is, if that character showed up, everybody would die, right or
- 26:18everybody would be beat or what have you. I get it, But there's
- 26:22ways you can more artfully express it by but still keeping it interesting. And
- 26:27I just don't know if Marvel has found that happy medium yet with all characters.
- 26:33It's particularly their extra extra superpower characters. I just don't know. And
- 26:37also that is an ongoing problem with Marvel characters in general, because they tend
- 26:41to be God focused, they tend to be celestial focused, they tend to
- 26:45be universally galaxy multi dimensional, the higher level ones that they're trying to introduce
- 26:52now. So it's just like, how I see that it's been a struggle
- 26:55for them to go from earthbound characters with exception of thor earthbound characters, how
- 27:00that works out to now you're introducing a fucking celestial in the middle of the
- 27:03ocean or whatever the fuck, right, Like, I just I get it.
- 27:06I see that there's this, there's still the struggle. The struggle has
- 27:07not ended. It's still ongoing, y'all. But because that's Celestia was still
- 27:11not brought up, and you would think somebody like Captain Marvel would be interested
- 27:15in that. No, because she's not interested in that. Remember, she's
- 27:17interested in saving the guys. She she established that she did even with thirty
- 27:22goddamn years. So whatever, you know, you're right, she should have
- 27:26father us. I'm going off for some milk. I never fucking came,
- 27:27all right, Now, that's that. I love that they made the white
- 27:30woman do that out of everybody. That's fantastic. By the way, let's
- 27:34leave your kids behind. I do want to go back then, Daddy.
- 27:41I do want to go back then to my original question to you, which
- 27:42was, how did you feel about the special effects. The special effects were
- 27:48mixed bag for me. Yes, there were signs that scene you were just
- 27:51talking about, yeah, and now I don't think about it. That was
- 27:53some ship. Yeah, you know, that was some out of control like
- 27:56there was. It was a mixed bag because and it literally for this film,
- 28:00the Marvels fifty to fifty. There were times where I was like,
- 28:03Yo, that looks fucking amazing. Unlike you, I actually really enjoyed the
- 28:07fight scenes, the action sequences. I didn't have no problems with it.
- 28:11I thought the fight scenes particularly were really well done because my another issue I
- 28:17had always having marbles, like I felt like, and also because you hadn't
- 28:18seen enough of the female characters that really fucking punching each other through fucking walls
- 28:26and chips and going in like I'm used to when I see women heroes fighting,
- 28:32I'm used to wonder woman level DC DC animation levels like type stuff.
- 28:37Whereas like Wonder Woman going to total toad with everybody, right, they and
- 28:42they do. They throwing fifty six pieces at each other and it's not no
- 28:45hesitation is bomb bomb you know what I'm saying, some injustice level shit.
- 28:49Okay, what I felt here when I was watching the marvels, I felt
- 28:55I was getting Capcom versus Marvel vibes, and I love it. They did
- 28:59for me. They did so well the switch the switch outs and ends of
- 29:03all three Marvel character you know, Miss Marvel, Captain, Captain Rambau and
- 29:07so on. Like they they did so well in executing that idea that all
- 29:12three were entangled with each other. So then how do they then use that
- 29:17as a strength, right and how do they first of all, how do
- 29:18they work through that? Which again I thought that was brilliantly done of how
- 29:22they even basically trained up to actually being able to work together when they're bounding
- 29:27that way, and also as mentioned in the fight scenes, I just think
- 29:32to see the and then it actually showed a progression from them being like what
- 29:34the fuck is happening and they're not working together to really working together as a
- 29:38unified team dead ass gaming like you're fighting you do the switch out real quick.
- 29:44You know, bong, I'm gonna throw I'm ana throwing Captain Marvel,
- 29:48do do an energy thing power I'm gonna throw in Miss Marvel and do the
- 29:51you know, the fists, like literally all that shit that you would think
- 29:53would make sense in the context of them, like if you do like a
- 29:56combo sequence and like like any like really major game. Now that's what it
- 30:00felt like, Like it felt smooth and it made sense to me. So
- 30:03I really actually enjoyed the fight scenes. Were there times where the direction and
- 30:08the imagery like it was a confusing and it was a little like like shaky
- 30:11cam. Yes, there were some of that stuff whatever, And again I
- 30:15felt that shit worked. And some of the scenes in space absolutely did work.
- 30:21Some of the the like the display of the power sets, like the
- 30:25energy auras, the dissipation of energy, the absorbs and of energy between the
- 30:29three characters. I think that looked really good as well. Where it did.
- 30:33What it fell short for me in terms of special effects was what you
- 30:36said, like the way certain things just looked it was very muted and it's
- 30:40like it could have been more vibrant. I did agree that there were a
- 30:44lot of general random scenes, particularly like a scene like when they're on like
- 30:48a moon or a planet or whatever, and even certain other plants where it
- 30:51did like look like I said, I mean to the point where Darband like
- 30:55she's she's touching things, she's moving stuff around, and it looks like cyrophone.
- 30:59It looks in the even sounds like yes, And I was like,
- 31:02ooh, they shot that, but that was like what do they call the
- 31:08sound people, the graphers, the folio artist. I was just like,
- 31:12ooh, I think they needed give the foliods more time on that one,
- 31:15because like it's just like I could just did not feel grand as you as
- 31:21you said. And then of course I mentioned earlier a few moments ago about
- 31:25like there was some shaky camp stuff happening where you may not been sure what
- 31:27was going on, but I understand the whole point was to express the chaoticness
- 31:32of what was going on in that and fine, whatever. There were a
- 31:36few close up shots of miss Marvel in space where I was just like,
- 31:40ooh, that looks muddy, like like her face was even like blurry a
- 31:42little bit. And I know, like that's been a big point of contention
- 31:45in recent Marvel film that they were like, yo, why is this final
- 31:48film? Why is shit blurry? And we all come to find out And
- 31:52and also kudos to the graphic artists and designers and everyone in the art who's
- 31:56trying to form a union now and it make sure now because they a lot
- 32:01of times they have literally worked to the bone and beyond and then they they
- 32:07trunk kate timelines for these films and say, Okay, the stuff that really
- 32:10takes ten months of work, we want you'all to do it in three and
- 32:13it's just impossible. And so I do I don't be I'm meaning myself say
- 32:17that with a grand so like we're giving our critique, but we also recognize
- 32:21some of this is out of control of the animators as well, because they're
- 32:23being asked to do something, they're being asked to do the impossible. So
- 32:30that's the same that applies to Nia, the Costa as well, and all
- 32:34these directors. They're all working under a system that is unsustainable and it's some
- 32:37bullshit, and that's why everybody is on strike right now because this, you
- 32:43know, cannot sustain itself and they're being asked to do things they shouldn't be
- 32:46asked to do, like Nia herself said she signed up for a two year
- 32:50commitment, which is already crazy, but that's you know, usual, and
- 32:52that's how it works. You know, you're signing away two years of your
- 32:54life to do a film, and then it turns out that now it's a
- 32:59three year commitment at half three and a half. I signed up for two
- 33:01years, and I gave y'all two years, and probably gave y'all three for
- 33:06real, because you were probably working her ass before she even signed the contract
- 33:09in the first place, so it's probably three years already, so it's probably
- 33:12four and a half years of her life. She's already dedicated to this,
- 33:15like come on, fam no. Like, so if the opening sequence looks
- 33:19a little money, I can understand, because you know, things happened.
- 33:22But yeah, yeah, And going back to what you said, I thought
- 33:25the training sequence was super fire, Like I loved it. You know,
- 33:30that was like its eighties training sequence but made it you know, not girl
- 33:36power, but like family oriented, friends getting to know each other, everybody
- 33:40hanging out on a long trip. But also we got a train for this
- 33:45big fight that's cover it up. So I love that and it didn't feel
- 33:46corny. What I was there was a lot of corny shit happening for me
- 33:52and miss and Captain Marvel. The first film, Oh god, they got
- 33:54rid of all of that. There was none of that. I've seen Captain
- 33:58Marvel the one time we saw it at the you know screening. I've never
- 34:00watched it again. I had no desire. I will say that though this
- 34:06one suffers from God, damn it. I gotta say it the folks,
- 34:09there's there are more BacT boys songs out there, you know, Marvel another
- 34:15problem Marvel not with all this on the nose like music, this ship is.
- 34:22Yeah, James Gunn started this thing I feel with Marvel where it's all
- 34:27these needle drops, and he's very good at it. He's one of those
- 34:30directors who knows music and uses it well. Even him, I feel like
- 34:34pushes the limit a lot in Guardians Fear, I felt like you pushed the
- 34:37limit. And this is one of those ones where it's just like you don't
- 34:40need it. It was music. Choices were I roll in this many times?
- 34:47The let's talk about I think we should. I don't know if you
- 34:51want to talk about the overall story, you want to talk about the characters?
- 34:55Yeah, because all right, something that I guess I have to say
- 34:59and it it hurts me to say this, right, And I thought about
- 35:01it all night since we came home because I really didn't want to say this.
- 35:06But there's like, there was a lot of hate towards Breed Laws and
- 35:09you know, I went to the Captain Marvel set. We distrusted it.
- 35:13I met Brian person. I think in person she's so kind, so sweet,
- 35:17extremely beautiful, just a seems like a really chill person. And she
- 35:22caught all of this hate. People are like blah blah blah. Man,
- 35:28man, man, I have to say, man, after two of these
- 35:30films, I don't I'm not sure what it is. I don't find her
- 35:35charismatic as Carol Danvers, like I think in Endgames she bounces off of Chris
- 35:43Hemsworth and the rest of them very well, and in this she can bounce
- 35:45off in Mine and Tiana herself. I'm not you know, I guess,
- 35:52yeah, yeah, we'll talk about her, Yeah, you know, I
- 35:54don't. Let's finish with Breed well not even free but but but Carol Divers,
- 36:00yeah, and Tarol Danvers, but yeah, as Tarol Devers, I
- 36:01just don't find her engaging. I don't find her like she has brief moments
- 36:07from like ooh, there it is, but for the most part, it's
- 36:09just like it's so flat. And so it's kind of how I found Rosario's
- 36:15performance as Ahsoca, where it's like, I get it, this character's been
- 36:19through a lot and she's military, et cetera. But Ahsoka before this has
- 36:22this levity that she's missing now even though I get it, she's been through
- 36:27a lot, and Bree is just missing any levity to me at all.
- 36:30For the most part, it's just always like I'm here, you know,
- 36:34her portrail and not read, but her portrayal of trail. Yeah, Carol
- 36:37Danvers, I don't know. This is echoing what I said to you about
- 36:44what I felt about the Captain Marvel film. I did not connect or particularly
- 36:49like Carol Danvers Captain Marvel. I didn't feel it. And in the places
- 36:53where Carol Captain Marvel is by herself, I'm just like, all right,
- 36:59cool, you know, we're just in a room together. Where this strengthened
- 37:02her was the ensemble, the ensemble of all three of the Marvel beings together.
- 37:08That's what absolutely helped and uplift that characterization of Carol Danvers because again not
- 37:16really the biggest fan in the MCU. And now like when y'all all together,
- 37:21Oh, it's a fucking party, and I was with it. You
- 37:24mentioned yeah, I want to hear what you're gonna say about Yeah. First
- 37:29of all, yeah, she is fine and she looks absolutely gorgeous in the
- 37:34film Tiana. Tiana's captain Rambo, Monica Rambo. We get it, we
- 37:47get it. Uh, that's all I'm gonna say. I don't know yet
- 37:52if I'm connected to Monica. So here's the thing. I have my concern
- 38:00with how they wrote her, and I keep saying the word concerned. I
- 38:07was annoyed by how she was the pict Wanda vision we talked about that was
- 38:13it over two years ago? Now, how it was giving Mammy. It
- 38:19was giving strangeness, not doctor, but strangeness about and I get it,
- 38:24like you're trying to say she's she's she's a humanist, and this and this
- 38:28and that, and the jumping in front of human the jumping kids for a
- 38:34bullet, for giving a white woman, for terrorized to the town and forgiving
- 38:39being the only forgiving even the white people in the town, was like,
- 38:42fuck you want you And this woman talking about they'll never know what sacrifice.
- 38:47I don't know, and and perhaps I don't know. I don't know.
- 38:52Again, this capturization just of this of this version of Monica just being so
- 38:55hope filled. She I did like that in this film. She she does
- 39:00show a different emotion besides just hope. Right, it's she also shows annoyance,
- 39:07disappointment, sadness towards Carol. Okay, fine, And you guys saw
- 39:12that in like the most recent trailers, like there's there's some there's there's some
- 39:16unfinished business there. Okay, fine. I still like, while I feel
- 39:21better about how she came out from Wanna Vision, I'm still not all the
- 39:24way there with her. I don't I don't know if it's it could be
- 39:29the writing, could be the way it's being that is being I don't know.
- 39:31I always go back to the writing because the writing is going to while
- 39:35while the actor has to bring about the life of what's being written is like
- 39:39that's what's being written, right, and and that's what they're being essentially told
- 39:45to do. Yes, actors have some level of autonomy, but it's also
- 39:46just like well like they they have, but so much to go on.
- 39:52So I don't. I don't know. I don't know what it is yet.
- 39:53I think maybe we just need more time with Monica, because, to
- 39:55be honest, yeah, this is the most time we've had at Monica.
- 40:00This is the most time we had with Tiana Paris's Monica. Yeah, and
- 40:05and in a way that wasn't necessarily just tied to like Wanda or somebody else
- 40:09or you know what I mean. Like, yes, it's an ensemble,
- 40:13like I said, but she still stands on her own much more in this
- 40:15film. I still just don't think we have enough time to really see what's
- 40:21happening. And at the end of the movie they telegraph that maybe we will
- 40:24get something more focused. I would love a Monica focused and there and there
- 40:30and without spoiling what happens at the end of end credit scene and the end
- 40:35of the film. That's was one of my issues coming out of this is
- 40:37because of the vastness of the Marvel universe. Now, even though we have
- 40:42all of these different films and series going on, we still gotta wait years
- 40:46to find out what happens to a particular character. Because now it's it's what
- 40:51if it's coming out in December, which won't solve anything just to tell you
- 40:54stories, which is could be great. I can't wait. I love what
- 40:58if? And then we have Echo, so it's like that we're going back
- 41:00to the street and whatever happened with these cosmic characters? Who knows? And
- 41:06and that's the big problem right now because it's how you have all these things.
- 41:08But when you talk about I don't need answers, but I just need
- 41:13if I'm watching one series, if I'm watching Lost, and you know,
- 41:16I'm like, damn, w what's to happen to these motherfuckers on this island?
- 41:20I know next season I'm gonna find out whish to happen these motherfuckers on
- 41:22this island. But now with Marvel being so huge, I don't have no
- 41:27clue when I'm gonna find out what's happen any motherfuckers on the island, because
- 41:30I'm gonna have to go find out wis to happen these people over in Manhattan
- 41:32and these people over in California and these people over here and the next universe.
- 41:37And so because of that where I'm not looking for answers before anyone comes
- 41:40to me like oh yeah, don't you see what's eavy? You know,
- 41:44we're going to Secret Wars and the Secret Wars no shit, Sharlot. But
- 41:46that's one film and that's like not going to give me any time with these
- 41:52characters. That's going to be a big mashup of a lot of things going
- 41:54on, and it's not gonna be what I want to see from Auntie Monica,
- 42:00Monica Rambo, the leader the Avengers, the character that I grew up
- 42:02loving, And if we just had a series following Monica, I would get
- 42:07that. I honestly, that's what I really want, because like I like,
- 42:10I don't know what to make Like I don't even know what to make
- 42:12of like they try. You could see that they're trying to essentially maybe pin
- 42:15a lot of things on Monica. But then to your point, she's just
- 42:19gonna be in stasis to whatever movie you know, how many years from now
- 42:22as far as I know, right, maybe we'll see some more in other
- 42:28films. I'm hoping, and who knows, They're like how long do we
- 42:30have to wait to see I don't know who Monica is incu version, I
- 42:35don't know who Monica is really, and that and that's the difference, like
- 42:37people keep talking about, well, you know, just wait, we waited
- 42:39for this to that, but before it was because it was such a tight
- 42:43knit group. You know, it was five core Avengers and it wasn't even
- 42:45five us, just Iron Man being introduced, then the Store being introduced,
- 42:49and then you got to know them all and then very quickly, well not
- 42:51very quickly, but within five years they came together and had the Avengers where
- 42:53you saw them all interacting, and then they went back and you had another
- 42:58Iron Man movie. So it was like, immediately you got to keep following
- 43:00these characters. But now it's like, we had a Miss Marvel series.
- 43:04Who the hell knows when we'll get another Miss Marvel series? Yeah, if
- 43:06ever, And I don't know. It's frustrating because even though there's hints to
- 43:10what's coming and I'm I'm like, trust there's there's another big moment at the
- 43:15end where my ass if even even though it ain't the com up with version
- 43:20of what I wanted, it's still getting closer to it, and I'm like,
- 43:22oh ship getting excited. At the same time, it's like when motherfucker
- 43:29you know how you get you. I just again, just just just to
- 43:31close that note about mocran ball and to you, I don't think we've had
- 43:37enough time with her, and we've and again people say, well, you
- 43:40know, you do know a little you know, a backstory. You know,
- 43:43she's a scientist and she's just she's smart and and Auntie Carroll is like,
- 43:45all right, but who is she on her own? Who is she?
- 43:49You know, you know, ten toes down like the last years wre
- 43:52Carroll, you know, when her mom but she was remember she was blipped.
- 43:58She was blipped, so she lost a lot of her life too.
- 44:00But you know, okay, let's talk about how to talk about that.
- 44:02Yeah, let's talk about that. Serve her boob before she got blipped,
- 44:07you know, like who she you know, what happened? Yeah, did
- 44:09she have a bo her love life, you know, what was going on
- 44:12with it? I want to know, right, especially the way that they're
- 44:15they are the implications of the end of the Marvels, y'all have got to
- 44:20give me more, Monica. There's no fucking ways. I don't feel like
- 44:22we are until a big nets you know, a big matchup movie, especially
- 44:28with that end, because the way that end is set up, it does
- 44:30not feel like they're gonna be like, oh, well, here's you know,
- 44:32the Monica series. Yeah, it does not feel like that. I
- 44:36could be wrong. Maybe next week I'll be eating these words, maybe to
- 44:39Asna and you know, next week is announced to Anam to what we were
- 44:45saying about, to Adams, what we were saying about Miss Marvel and monv
- 44:50Miss Marble. Just continuing to love her. They leaned in so hard on
- 44:54how they were able to build her up from the TV show. They let
- 44:59in mind being mon and really continue to express that that fan. You know
- 45:06that you have power too, but you're a fan, right, And it's
- 45:08like, oh, like it was giving me shades of like when Peter Parker
- 45:10first got it. Oh oh, mister Stark. Mister Stark gave me that.
- 45:14It's like at the end of the day, like this is still a
- 45:15kid, as a young kid that while they have powers and they're learning themselves
- 45:19into it, they're a teenager and they are fucking mind blown when their heroes
- 45:24are like talking to them and tapping them up or even giving them the time
- 45:29of day. Like they make it very clear, like I'm in the same
- 45:31fucking room and reading the same air, just like in real life when we
- 45:36see here and we see our heroes or we talk to their heroes where we
- 45:37meet them at the comic cons or you meet them at the conferences or events
- 45:40and you're like, oh my god, that person wrote every book I ever
- 45:45read for the last thing, you know, I'm saying like that level of
- 45:50and and and even they even have a common common conversation about that, that
- 45:54level of like almost you're making someone into a deity, Like how how that's
- 45:59both good and right? Like I think the way that they were able to
- 46:04allow her to express that and just continue being her but also just be a
- 46:07character that everyone can cling on to, Like Iman is the audience right,
- 46:13Imman exemplifies a lot of what the audience feels throughout the different scenes in the
- 46:17film. Miss Marvel okay to be specific, but I just felt like she
- 46:22was too. Miss Marvel was a tether to like the best parts of everything
- 46:28that I liked about the Marvels, not easily, yeah, absolutely, just
- 46:35and one thing like that. I think she is like a lightweight version of
- 46:39Deadpool where she talks about things in a meta sense where he is the audience
- 46:46are getting the inside joke. It's not like she's turning to the camera and
- 46:51being like I'm in this movie, right, now. But things that she
- 46:53says are so meta. At she's not breaking the fourth wall, but she's
- 46:58being very meta. But she's pushed on that fourth wall. She ain't breaking
- 47:00it, but she's like leaning on it, like y'all know what I'm saying.
- 47:05Right here, there's a line she says in this film. This is
- 47:07not a spoiler if there's a line she says in this film where they're looking
- 47:10at her her information, right, and you know it's hold on before I
- 47:17mentioned that any names. Just want to make sure that it's public that this
- 47:21person is in the film, Yes, Nick Fury, So Nick, okay,
- 47:23I just want to make sure because I didn't seen the letter. So
- 47:27Nick Fury, you know, says you know, we have intel on you,
- 47:29right, And they're looking at it on their little tablet and Kamala goes,
- 47:35well, why is it on a clear screen? Yes? And it's
- 47:37just like little things that you know, as an audience, like the audience
- 47:40that we were with actually a lot of them that erupted into laughing, like
- 47:44giggles and stuff, and they were like, well, damn, you're right,
- 47:45Like like the stuff that we would ask Bet, I mean ourselves would
- 47:49ask like you know, when things are obvious and we're like, why would
- 47:52y'all do that? Or why did she say that? Or why did they
- 47:53do? You know what I'm saying, like the things that you, as
- 47:55as an observer would probably question it ask that was that? Was Kamala doing
- 48:02right? Like she was doing that? And that's why I said serving as
- 48:06a as the the standing for what an audience member would be if they were
- 48:09in that position, and then being an audience member who's also a super fan
- 48:14like we all are audience members, she's a super fan in real life,
- 48:17like yeah, so it's like something and she also is a superfan where without
- 48:22being a that's that four fall leaning when I'm talking about, because she knows
- 48:25things that are not those things, but she'll inhabit scenes that we as the
- 48:30audience have seen and make references to things that we've seen that her character hasn't
- 48:35seen. But because she's making those reference, we're all like oh and laughing
- 48:39at the drugs and stuff like. That whole end sequence that we're not gonna
- 48:43you know, spoil for you is just such a meta moment. And I
- 48:46was, you know, in my chair streaming damn near finishing Kamala's lines for
- 48:51her and shit, yeah yeah, Samuel Jackson, Nick Fiery, Nick Fury,
- 48:58right, like great, he's great, he's great. No notes like
- 49:00continue doing your thing. Yeah yeah, let's get to the notes. Were
- 49:06getting notes. The family was great all that. Yeah, let's talk about
- 49:09dar Ben play by Zie ashton O. Dark Bean is the alleged that I
- 49:15gotta say, a legend big bad in this film. I will say this,
- 49:19that woman is a quite attractive woman, you know, and they made
- 49:22her look quite unattractive, so you know that that worked. You know,
- 49:27like as a villain, she is definitely unattractive, you know, giving me
- 49:30her facial expressions are like no, I don't know about that bend. But
- 49:37she was giving me uncle vice because in this film she has like gold teeth,
- 49:42like they're like, oh, you don't need to make yourself so ugly.
- 49:45Woman, Like she is really going on, Like I know I don't
- 49:50feel the same, but okay, okay, I wasn't feeling it all,
- 49:52but let's talk about her. I wasn't feeling dark Ben, like all right,
- 49:58let me let me talk about this. This is from a writing perspective
- 50:00and just it's the same issue I have with Loki, where dar Ben's whole
- 50:06issue is created in this film. Well, I mean, we saw the
- 50:09actions that led to it in the first film, but we don't see why
- 50:15she's doing what she's doing now, Like she's motivated by what Carol does in
- 50:19the first film, but then that led to a big civil warship which we
- 50:23we don't what. Yeah, we had no like what, And so because
- 50:30of that, it's like, Okay, this pre civil Ward did all these
- 50:32things and that's why dar Ben is moving, which was paused by Carol.
- 50:37Yes, but I needed to see some of the Cree civil War to give
- 50:39a shit about the Creed, because honestly, I've never given a shit about
- 50:43the Creed. We never had a reason to. For the most part,
- 50:45they've been used as villains, So why should I care now that their world
- 50:50is fucked up and dar Ben has to go on this, you know,
- 50:53trying to save them, and hers have saving them are so extreme that it's
- 50:59like, I didn't understand why Darband was so aggie in this film. Let's
- 51:04just because we didn't see any of it, right, And when I said
- 51:06didn't understand, like they said why she was mad, I didn't understand why
- 51:09she was I was like okay, and like who you know, like die
- 51:15every day, be like it was the problem, Like I don't know,
- 51:16like it's it wasn't. I do agree with too that there was a critical
- 51:20point, but also just from a villain perspective, this was a very one
- 51:23note, flat villain again when yeah, even once you know their motivations,
- 51:29even if I'd seen the Crease Civil War, it would still be Darbin is
- 51:32just boring as fuck. Darban is boring. It's Darban powerful. I don't
- 51:37know, because they again with this whole power set, power level depiction.
- 51:40I don't know what's fucking going on with this. Sometimes you would think she's
- 51:45on part with Captain Marvel and it's like how And other times it's just like
- 51:49the most simple thing, the most simple thing fucks her up, and it's
- 51:52just like, well, shit, if that's it, then why can't Captain
- 51:55Marvel take care of her? So again, it just doesn't make sense that
- 51:59the they she doesn't matter. I'm gonna tell y'all right now, dar Ben
- 52:02does not matter no whatsoever. Literally, and what I found and because we're
- 52:09going into our notes right the issues we've had with the film, they're so
- 52:14dar Benn being one of them just simply means to an end. They serve
- 52:19no true purpose. They are a narrative means to get a character from point
- 52:22A to point B, quite literally, and then they don't even help the
- 52:28character on an arc, which was one of my big issues for the film
- 52:31point B in terms of they need to get from from McDonald's to Burger King.
- 52:36That's what they're doing. That's I feel like a lot of characters in
- 52:39the film move plot, but they don't move character. Like plot doesn't move
- 52:43the character in the film. It's like these characters moved a plot and then
- 52:46at the end of it, they're pretty much the same characters that we knew
- 52:49from before. There's not really any like, oh man, that was I
- 52:52went on a journey with these people from the film. I felt no journey
- 52:57from dar Ben. I found no journey from pretty much like you said that
- 53:00I and I like that you mentioned the plot versus character. She was a
- 53:04vehicle to drive plot. Yeah, nothing about character, And there were and
- 53:07there was actually done a few times where things didn't fucking matter, and it's
- 53:12just like, so why do we do all this? And that Again,
- 53:15not to say that I still didn't enjoy the movie anyway, But it was
- 53:19a note like what was the point, like just to I think, just
- 53:24to kill and then it's just like what then you are long time and the
- 53:29movie's not long. And that's what I'm saying. It's just like, but
- 53:30you're wasting time by doing things to kill time. You are wasting time or
- 53:35wasting millions of dollars were wasting potentially getting me closer to something that's meaningful.
- 53:40Right, So I I am all right, nigga, you mad next.
- 53:45And that's literally and and from the beginning to end, by the end,
- 53:49you're just it's literally that it's like, all right next, Yeah, I
- 53:52mean literally, Like at the end of the film, I did not remember
- 53:55exactly what happened to Darwin. Honestly, I remember, I know the crucial
- 54:01moment of what happened, the point of top they I just talked about where
- 54:04the power levels just made no sense anymore. And after that, I'm not
- 54:07sure exactly what happened. And I don't care for those people who saw Miss
- 54:13Marvel Disney. Plus, the same thing that happened in that film happened to
- 54:16Darvin. Excuse that the TV show happened to Dartvin. Damn I forgot what
- 54:21happened to I don't I remember, And that's how i'mna leave it at that,
- 54:24because that way for those who know you know, and those who don't
- 54:29you're not. I haven't told you anything. So the same thing happens at
- 54:32the end of that that happens here. So yeah, dar Ben, like
- 54:36we were distressing there, Like Marvel definitely has a villain problem. We've you
- 54:39know, it's been said many a time that a lot of their villains are
- 54:42whack or they get turned into the heroes like Loki and then you don't have
- 54:45a villain anymore. But Darbin is up there with and I don't even know
- 54:51my man, you know, curse was the other dark mallekis Malachus from Thrower
- 54:54to Dark World. Darbin is battling for forgettable. Yeah, and history of
- 55:04Darban, like, first of all, found out that they ginger vended it
- 55:07used to be a man or a male character whatever, who cares the history
- 55:10of that, Like it was Darbin and another Cree soldier that they and this
- 55:16is in the comments. They put a plan in place to assassinate the ruler
- 55:20of the Cree at the time. The ruler's name is called clumsy folop and
- 55:24this is some this is what I'm talking about when I'm like, this is
- 55:28some shrowm shit that Marvel was on at the time, because it's like,
- 55:30what are y'all talking about? And as soon as I said it, because
- 55:32I don't know this shit, right, this is comics and this is old
- 55:35school comms, I don't know what's going on. I told Ben. Ben
- 55:37was just like, oh my god. I started laughing. Yep, uh
- 55:40yeah. So that's plain clumsy foul comes from back when I was reading the
- 55:45Silver Surfer comic. This is actually when I fell in love with the Silver
- 55:46Surfer and galast this is you can't receive him. He's up a little higher
- 55:51on my wall. But my obsession with Galatus started back there. And at
- 55:55this home there was a whole cree straw war. I mean, there's always
- 55:58a cree straw war went on in the comics, but at the time it
- 56:00was really going down and the Kreese I can't remember who assassinated or they know
- 56:07that's what it was to they like they have the Supreme intelligence, just like
- 56:09how Captain Marvel blew up the Supreme Intelligence in the first Captain Marvel film,
- 56:14The supreme intelligence. I think Silver Surfer wrecks it in the comics, and
- 56:17somehow because of that, this dude, clumsy follow Up, who isn't even
- 56:22a cree, He's another type of alien. He's a weird looking little dude
- 56:25with these big jowls. He gets elected to be the supreme leader of the
- 56:31Creed. I cannot remember how this how, yeah, I can't remember.
- 56:37It was something. It was some nonsense. And his name is clumsy foll
- 56:38Up. He was a joke character obviously. In fact, I didn't find
- 56:42this out till way later, but like I mean recently, like last year,
- 56:47I think I found this out. There's a whole history of clumsy folo
- 56:51Up because the writer clumsy Foloup is actually a joke character based on an editor
- 56:57at Marvel. So the dude was take making shots, like I think he
- 57:01was even taking shots at the editor in chief like clumsy follow Like he's basically
- 57:05saying the editor in chief of Marvel at the time is clumsy follow Like everything
- 57:08he touches fucks up. But somehow he gets elected to be the leader of
- 57:13the Creed or the leader of Marvel. So it was like some heavy shots
- 57:17being thrown. You're googling who is clumsy foll Up based on right now?
- 57:21No? No, no, no, no, I was doing something totally
- 57:22different. I was just what, Yeah, so clumsy, So that's why
- 57:25he is. But clumsy follo Up unfortunately is not in this movie because that
- 57:30would be taking shots begging this editor who I think passed away now, so
- 57:32they don't want any of that drama. But yeah, basically, Darbin was
- 57:37a minor character who wasn't much of anything in the comments and ain't much of
- 57:42anything in the MCU. It doesn't make sense, does does darbann in this
- 57:45film? Does she have grown in the accuser's mallet? Yeah, well,
- 57:47okay, dar Ben is an accuser. There's more than one. Yeah,
- 57:52there are a bunch of accusers. Roanan is one of them. She has
- 57:55Ronan's mallet, but what she doesn't have is the powerstone, which made Rona's
- 58:00mallet able to take on the Guardians of the Galaxy. But looks familiar,
- 58:06and dar Ben does have one of the Bengals that uh, Miss Marvel is
- 58:10the other one, but once again, Miss Marvel's not on the level of
- 58:14Captain Marvel, and Captain Marvel goes toe to toe with Dantos. Like,
- 58:16that's why I didn't get to say they're doing people are going to tear this
- 58:20ship apart on that level because it's really silly. It's like Captain Marvel goes
- 58:25toe to toe with Dannos the last time we see her and then struggles with
- 58:30dar beIN. It needs needs help with darn right, and then the scene
- 58:37Yeah, depending on seeing Monica alone should put in work on Darbinos could probably
- 58:43take on I mean, who should serve Darbin but and then and then for
- 58:46that matter, like the one who should struggle with dar Ben is Miss Marvel,
- 58:52but even Miss Marvel should be able to fight dar beIN. Yeah,
- 58:55and yet it takes all three of them to handle this clown for reasons,
- 59:00for reasons, right, so uh yeah, not noting that dark Ben is
- 59:05definitely the weak leak in this film, and that's that's probably why I walked
- 59:09away. Like last night where I walked away, I was like, I
- 59:12probably would have given this movie a D walking out of it because yeah,
- 59:15Ben was not with it with the ships at all. When we walked I
- 59:17was like, wow, surprising, Yeah I didn't, I didn't. I
- 59:21was surprised that y'all liked it that much, and I was even Chico Leo
- 59:24shout out to the brother Chico Leo. He came through for the screening last
- 59:27night and he really enjoyed it. And Chiko Leo is a harsher and she
- 59:30don't like nothing. I will ever be. She don't like nothing, so
- 59:35for him, like, we all had a great time. So anyway,
- 59:37and that's when I wanted to sit with it. And when I did sit
- 59:39with it overnight, I really did, like damn, I really am on,
- 59:43like god fucking damn this woman. Can you know, It's like back
- 59:46in the day my man said, I could listen to Snoop read the phone
- 59:50Book, you know, Snoop Dogg read the phone Book, and it's the
- 59:52same thing with them. I could watch her through anything, and I'm highly
- 59:55entertained. Other notes for this film, they're were some goofy things, some
- 1:00:01goofy scenes or or inclusions that I'm just like, y'all didn't have to throw
- 1:00:07that y'all didn't like, we didn't need. Like the film is not dark
- 1:00:13or or dour by any point, Like yes, there's there's there's there's things
- 1:00:17that are important and potentially sad, but there's nothing on the level of damn,
- 1:00:22this is depressing, So it didn't need injections of like honestly, like
- 1:00:28what's his face level humor from from like the Thort series, the later Thort
- 1:00:31series, like it did you thought it got that bad? No? No,
- 1:00:37no, it was just certain things where I could tell it gains You're
- 1:00:39right, you're right, you're uh who who? Who directed it? So
- 1:00:49there were certain there were a couple of scenes where I'm like, this is
- 1:00:52this is this is almost like it was just wild, like where's this?
- 1:00:55Why is this happening? There was one where there was one and I'm not
- 1:00:59gonna give it away it involves goose, or involves involves goose. Yep,
- 1:01:04where I actually thought it was. It was just so outrageous that it was
- 1:01:07it was funny, right, and I'm like, all right, good and
- 1:01:10it made sense in the moment. I'm like, okay, fine, whatever,
- 1:01:14fine. I could see that in a common but greet grade. Then
- 1:01:15there was another scene where it was just like why did y'all throw this in
- 1:01:19here? Like literally, like you threw it in there because you felt like
- 1:01:22you needed to inject that level of tycho t T type humor. But I'm
- 1:01:24like, but why, like, we weren't we weren't depressed. It wasn't
- 1:01:30a serious and that's what I'm saying. There was never a point in this
- 1:01:31film where I'm just like, damn, that's almost negativity and so dark.
- 1:01:36Ah. I hate saying like it was none of that. It was just
- 1:01:38oh, you know, all right, you know, let's let's you know,
- 1:01:42keep the things are happening, let's keep going. We don't necessarily need
- 1:01:45then a weird song of dance happening. Like I just I just didn't understand
- 1:01:50and I'm not gonna say exactly what happened, but it just I just didn't
- 1:01:53get Like I was like, why are we throwing that in there? And
- 1:01:55then again characters that don't matter that you may never see again or if we
- 1:01:59do again, good luck, but you may never see this person again.
- 1:02:02And it's just like, well, what was the point. And really,
- 1:02:05once again, it feels like how they did with Darban, it was just
- 1:02:07a means to an end. This is a way for them to get some
- 1:02:10some some new some uh some new comic book hero suits, some new uh
- 1:02:15you know what I mean. Everything like when happens just like okay, someone
- 1:02:22I said that earlier. I need to get from my house and I need
- 1:02:24to get in the uber to go to the fucking party. You're right,
- 1:02:29what am I going to do in the middle of that? Like? Who?
- 1:02:30It doesn't matter what fucking uber You're getting, right, So don't you
- 1:02:34get there? Right? And see that goes back to what I was saying,
- 1:02:37because that's not your characters aren't driving this plot. The plot is driving
- 1:02:40these characters. The characters aren't like, yo, I need to solve this
- 1:02:44issue that I have and that leads me to this and that. It's like
- 1:02:47the plot is like you need a new suit, so this leads you to
- 1:02:51this and that. So let's let's let's interject this random detour for no real
- 1:02:55and it's not really a detour, but the point is it is just like
- 1:02:58it's just something all right, whatever it is, okay, they're they're just
- 1:03:06there were a couple and again world and this is for me, myself and
- 1:03:10I These were not things that typically technically detracted from the film. Like I
- 1:03:15was just like, damn, that really fucked me up, and I was
- 1:03:17upset that they didn't know. It was just notes out of stuff. I'm
- 1:03:21like, I could have did I could have did without Yeah, so whatever,
- 1:03:24Yeah, that's what I mean. It's my big the big hole in
- 1:03:29this film for me is Darbit and everything that happens around her is just like
- 1:03:34whatever. And because of that, that's you know, that's your intigonist and
- 1:03:37that's that that does take away from a lot of it. And because of
- 1:03:39that, I don't like this. This film is its fat to me.
- 1:03:44If it's why, it's the exact same problems I'm having with Loki, where
- 1:03:47it's like Tom Hitdleston and mon are just fucking incredible. I can watch them
- 1:03:53do anything, and I am watching them do anything because I'm not watching them
- 1:03:58have much of a story because you have no choice. Yeah, and I
- 1:04:00want to see them and this is all you got to see them because you
- 1:04:05was an Uber example. They sent you a raggedy ass Honda Civic. It's
- 1:04:10like, well, god damn it, I still need to make this party
- 1:04:12and get in it. And that Uber example is even better. It's like,
- 1:04:15I'm still going to the party and I'm in the party. I'm into
- 1:04:18Uber with Tom and I'm into Uber with MN and this is a great ride,
- 1:04:21but I never got to the party. I'm still waiting on that party.
- 1:04:27You know what I mean. It's like maybe this movie, I'll get
- 1:04:30to the party because this is a great ride. But nothing happened. You
- 1:04:33know, I didn't get to meet the girl at the party. You know,
- 1:04:36I didn't get to see that dope DJ I'd been waiting to see.
- 1:04:40You know, I didn't have that adventure at four in the morning that I'll
- 1:04:45remember forever. I just had a ride to the party with some great people
- 1:04:47and it was like, you know, we had some jokes and we had
- 1:04:50fun. Shout out to everybody. I have fun. Yeah, But it
- 1:04:55wasn't like it wasn't the adventure that I was waiting to go on. It's
- 1:04:59like we all you know, it's like it's like you met. It's like
- 1:05:01if you want to play Dungeons and the Dragons. You know, we're all
- 1:05:04at the end chilling, and you know we're about to go on the adventure,
- 1:05:09but we're just all at the end chilling, having fun, talking ship
- 1:05:12about all the adventures we've had before. Oh remember that, Oh remember that?
- 1:05:16Oh yeah, that was funny. Ha ha ha. Oh remember these
- 1:05:18remember the flirkins? Ahaa, let's bring her ha ha ha. You know
- 1:05:23that's that's what's this movie, and it's because of the career that's and once
- 1:05:28again we here's Parisma and here's everything because breed to me doesn't or they're not
- 1:05:32giving her the ship for that. It's like, but because they have a
- 1:05:36mind on this film, it's like, oh ha ha, Okay, yeah,
- 1:05:39I can watch all this and be enjoyed. But at the end of
- 1:05:41it, I'm like, damn, we didn't even get Tom go on the
- 1:05:43fucking adventure. There were like we just sat around the end talking ship.
- 1:05:46Well, I was okay with the ship. I was okay with sitting around
- 1:05:49the in talking shit. Okay, I really really for the most one,
- 1:05:53I was. But I really liked the the spirit I would I want.
- 1:05:57I really liked the film and and it so fucked up. How dog?
- 1:06:02How much dog in this films? Can how much people? How dare you
- 1:06:05the way you try to fucking sit there and blame Nia, Like we have
- 1:06:10a clip that just came out last yesterday on Twitter that you guys are going
- 1:06:13to see on the rest of our socials where it's like literally everything I was
- 1:06:15questioning on our last show, Nia pretty much debunked and and and even things
- 1:06:20that Ben was saying. Ben Ben was saying, oh, well, actually
- 1:06:23not like like white men do it all the time, corroborate it, like
- 1:06:28I just y'all, are y'all crazy? This film is good. I think
- 1:06:31this film is This film is good good. You're gonna enjoy yourself. You're
- 1:06:35gonna enjoy yourself, like I do say. I think it is a little
- 1:06:39bit more lighthearted. Isn't the word I'm word? I was. It's a
- 1:06:44little just more light in general. It's not it's those stakes. And unfortunately,
- 1:06:51I will say that that you had communicated, you know, many many
- 1:06:55times over the years, how the low steaks then is only in means of
- 1:07:00and itself, like the film itself is only means an end to the end
- 1:07:01credits, right, yeah, because it's the end credits. The post credits
- 1:07:04have larger, way larger implications than what happened in the film, and in
- 1:07:09those states wouldn't matter to me if there was a character driven film. I
- 1:07:13do not feel like this is a character driven film. I feel like this
- 1:07:16is an actor driven film because the actors are saving it with their charisma and
- 1:07:20stuff. But I do not feel like the characters drive this plot at all.
- 1:07:24And I don't feel like the characters at the end of it are any
- 1:07:27different than I started them from, other than that they've met some new people.
- 1:07:30Yeah. Yeah, so maybe we will have another review. But like
- 1:07:35true spoilers where we're talking about specific things, probably do a you know,
- 1:07:40a group joint all. Yeah, but you know again, just there there
- 1:07:45were problems. There were some issues, but to me, issues that were
- 1:07:48indicative of what Marvel has been doing anyway for the last few years. Yeah.
- 1:07:54And this is not thor love and fucking Thunder, absolutely not, absolutely
- 1:07:58not. Like I don't walk out of movies, and I regret we wanted
- 1:08:02to walk out of I regret not walking out of aute. I should have
- 1:08:05shown solidarity with intelligence and walked out of that film. It. Kudos to
- 1:08:14the cast of the Marvels. As mentioned, it drops November tenth, which
- 1:08:17is depending on when you hear this. It may have been done already,
- 1:08:20but which is this Friday? Good movie, go see that shit, loved
- 1:08:27it. Action was on point for me. Uh, most of the capital
- 1:08:31is on point for me. It really doesn't matter because you're gonna get some
- 1:08:35that that that post credit scene is going to fuck you up. Like whether
- 1:08:40in a good or good or bad some people. I wrote, like in
- 1:08:43my tweet, I wrote, it's gonna leave fans yelling. And I mean
- 1:08:45that in the sense of some people are gonna be like why, and other
- 1:08:48people are gonna be like yeah. And I was one of the yeah people
- 1:08:51because I already saw it coming to so Kelsey Bro. The man throws of
- 1:09:00eg and behfle and oder than throws man throws
