- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a Mastermindset coach, creative strategist.
- 0:09And also happen to be. A farmer.
- 0:11This is my chicken coop and I come out here every day to
- 0:14record a podcast to teach distinctions, possibilities, new
- 0:18ways of thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey, everybody.
- 0:29Good morning. Actually on the porch this
- 0:32morning, it's really early. You can hear all the birds off
- 0:35in the distance and you can hear the rooster off in the distance.
- 0:40It's not the sky is just turning like a brighter color of that
- 0:46morning blue. And why am I describing all of
- 0:49this to you? Because this is sensory acuity,
- 0:51using all your senses to take in your surroundings and recognize
- 0:56what's actually happening. So right now, everything is
- 0:59waking up. Everything is starting to wake
- 1:01off. You can hear roof rake up.
- 1:03You can hear Rufus off in the distance.
- 1:05You can hear my neighbors Roosters off in the distance.
- 1:08You can hear all the little birds in the trees, not flying
- 1:11yet, but they're just, you know, making their sounds, getting
- 1:14ready to wake up. And part of having high sensory
- 1:18acuity is being able to pick up all the sounds.
- 1:23Now, I can hear the traffic. I don't know if you can hear the
- 1:25traffic, but I live really far from any major traffic yet you
- 1:30can hear it. And it's interesting to me how
- 1:33when you hone in on specific senses, you can pick up on
- 1:37things. Now, why is this important in
- 1:39our lives across the board? Well, one for safety purposes,
- 1:42and that's pretty obvious, but on a bigger scale, sensory
- 1:45acuity is really understanding what's going on around you in a
- 1:50room with other people or interacting with other people or
- 1:53anything that's alive or not. Like if whether it's not alive,
- 1:58just paying attention, looking for things.
- 2:00It's I love to use the example of have you ever had somebody
- 2:04wash do your dishes for you and they believe the dishes are
- 2:08clean. And you walk over and you see
- 2:10that the dishes in fact are not clean.
- 2:13That the edge of the pot still has gunk stuck to it or the lid
- 2:18has been washed with like a brush instead of a sponge or
- 2:22cloth. And you can see where the brush
- 2:25marks went through what was on it.
- 2:27And they didn't even notice it though.
- 2:29Oh, I didn't even see that. And you say, how could you not
- 2:32see that It's right in front of you.
- 2:34Well, this is the difference between where we are in the
- 2:37sensory world. One someone person is picking up
- 2:40on it one way, another person is picking up on it in another way.
- 2:43And this level of sensory acuity is so important because we
- 2:47wonder, well, I don't know why this person isn't talking to me.
- 2:51I don't know why this person isn't paying attention to me.
- 2:53I don't know what's happening. And our senses are focused on
- 2:57what how we interpret the world, not on how other people
- 3:00interpret the world. And I'll tell you, it is one of
- 3:05the most talked about subjects that I can even be like when I
- 3:11start to calculate, OK, what do I talk about most with my
- 3:14clients? Often, Very often it comes back
- 3:18to the fact that, well, they're dealing with people that have no
- 3:22idea that this is what's going on for them, that this is their
- 3:26experience. And they just don't, they don't
- 3:29take it all in. They don't see that that this is
- 3:31a big deal. I'm sure if anyone on here
- 3:34listening has a family or a a person that they consider their
- 3:39partner in life and that partner does things to irritate you.
- 3:43Let's just face it, we all my partner irritates me.
- 3:46I can tell you that. So I can look at it and say, Oh
- 3:49yeah, there are things that go on that I go, wait, wait, what?
- 3:53How do you not notice that? How did you not even see that?
- 3:56Because those things are not important.
- 3:58Those things are just not important, but in his world
- 4:03they're just not important, and in my world they're very
- 4:05important. So this comes back to where is
- 4:08his sensory acuity? Where is my sensory acuity?
- 4:10Is mine too high and is his too low?
- 4:13Probably. And yeah, I've been accused of
- 4:16Kim C's dirt. Yes, that's a very real thing.
- 4:18I see it everywhere I go. I noticed things that are out of
- 4:22order because that is my certainty driving.
- 4:26Now, is it possible, Is it completely possible to learn to
- 4:30live and heighten your sensory acuity?
- 4:33Yes, but you have to slow down. And that's the point of coming
- 4:36out here and listening to everything, waking up in the
- 4:39morning and hearing it and paying attention.
- 4:41Because now when you stop and you pause and take in that
- 4:44moment, you're going into that meditative state when they say
- 4:47listen to everything around you, close your eyes, take out your
- 4:50eye, your eyesight and just listen and hear everything.
- 4:54You hear the cars, you hear the birds, you hear the frogs, you,
- 4:57you hear the bugs, you hear the Roosters, you hear everything
- 5:01that's going on around you. And it helps you sensory wise.
- 5:06And then you can go ahead and do it with a vision.
- 5:08OK, I'm going to look right in front of me.
- 5:10Look at all the details. Look at all the details.
- 5:13Now, for me, being visual is very easy.
- 5:16I'm a hyper visual person. The sound I had to train myself
- 5:21to do. And I'll tell you, it's a gift
- 5:24now that I've done it. I love it.
- 5:25It's hard to learn it, but when you start to blend and get very
- 5:29high sensory acuity, I promise you great things happen because
- 5:32now you can take in more and you can understand somebody else's
- 5:36level of sensory acuity. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:39you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:41Bye.
