- 1:49Speaker 3: Got several things of the news I want to get to,
- 1:51Speaker 3: but I want to Welcome to the show now. Tim
- 1:52Speaker 3: Brady from the Charleston CVB Convention of Visitors Bureau, Good morning, sir,
- 1:57Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning Dave. Always a pleasure
- 1:59Speaker 3: to be here, brother.
- 2:00Speaker 4: It's a pleasure if you'd open up for Adam Harris too, right, Listen,
- 2:02Speaker 4: I like to refer to myself as Adam's valet. Okay,
- 2:05Speaker 4: I escort him to the ring, I, you know, make
- 2:08Speaker 4: sure he's got plenty of water for hydration purposes.
- 2:11Speaker 3: He's okay, yeah, okay. I mean I think if you're
- 2:14Speaker 3: going to pull off the valet thing, you need to
- 2:16Speaker 3: go old school with like the feathers and the whole
- 2:18Speaker 3: deal of the whole boa thing, you know, like Sunshine
- 2:20Speaker 3: with gorgeous Jimmy Garvin.
- 2:22Speaker 4: In the eighties, I considered myself more of like the
- 2:24Speaker 4: Virgil to his ted dB ah, got it, got.
- 2:27Speaker 3: It there, you got it? Got it? Okay? All right?
- 2:30Speaker 3: And by the way, I do want to ride you.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I'm not going to be here on Thursday. So I've
- 2:34Speaker 3: got Amy Breedlove in the studio with me today, who's
- 2:37Speaker 3: just taking notes and watching things, right Amy, all right, right,
- 2:41Speaker 3: see she's not. We wouldn't even give her a microphone today.
- 2:43Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Got to earn that, got to earn that, all right.
- 2:46Speaker 4: So Regott, I want to start with Regatta Jorce and
- 2:49Speaker 4: then we'll get into some other things. I want to
- 2:50Speaker 4: talk to you about.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I mean, we're only, you know, forty eight hours away
- 2:53Speaker 3: from the biggest party in Charleston, quart of a million
- 2:55Speaker 3: people come to town. It's going to be great. Weather
- 2:57Speaker 3: looks good, hot, hot, good, but no right, no rain.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And once we get through today anyway, I know you
- 3:02Speaker 3: guys are excited about this at the convention visitor Bureau
- 3:05Speaker 3: as well. Absolutely.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I mean, this drives visitation, it drives visitor spending, it
- 3:10Speaker 4: drives a hotel occupancy. Plus it's just such a positive
- 3:14Speaker 4: thing for the community. And we'll talk more about that
- 3:17Speaker 4: sort of in this grand scheme of things with Regatta
- 3:19Speaker 4: and with cycling. But you know, we talk all the
- 3:21Speaker 4: time about economic impact, but I also want to make
- 3:23Speaker 4: sure we're talking about community impact, that these are positive
- 3:26Speaker 4: drivers in our community making Charleston a better place to live,
- 3:30Speaker 4: work and play. So really excited about Regatta. It's going
- 3:33Speaker 4: to be a great four days in the city of Charleston.
- 3:35Speaker 4: And we'll get back to that a little bit later on.
- 3:37Speaker 3: But you mentioned the bike championships that we had back
- 3:40Speaker 3: in May, and numbers are starting to come in to
- 3:42Speaker 3: a certain extent about that, So hit us with.
- 3:44Speaker 4: It, well man, The timing is great because this officially
- 3:48Speaker 4: went out as a press release at nine o'clock this morning.
- 3:51Speaker 4: You are the very first person that I'm talking to
- 3:53Speaker 4: about this, So I hope you feel special.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I do. Do you feel special for me? She'd feel
- 3:59Speaker 3: more special? Is warm? Give her a microphone? Well, she's
- 4:04Speaker 3: sitting behind the board watching what I'm doing.
- 4:06Speaker 5: He fair enough.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Six point nine million dollars in economic impact. Let's just
- 4:10Speaker 4: rip the band aid right off. That's a fifty percent
- 4:12Speaker 4: increase from last year. Fifty percent up from twenty twenty four.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Visitor spending up fourteen percent. Visitor spending in the city
- 4:20Speaker 4: of Charleston during the eight days of USA Cycling Pro
- 4:23Speaker 4: Road National Championships, presented by Spilman Thomas in Battle, accounted
- 4:26Speaker 4: for thirteen percent of all spending in the city.
- 4:29Speaker 3: So all the of all.
- 4:30Speaker 4: The spending happening over those eight days, thirteen percent of
- 4:33Speaker 4: it came from visitors from beyond fifty miles or more. So,
- 4:38Speaker 4: we tracked about five hundred and ninety one thousand dollars
- 4:40Speaker 4: in local taxes paid during that event. That's bed tax,
- 4:44Speaker 4: that's B and O tax, that's sales tax, So over
- 4:49Speaker 4: half a million dollars in taxes generated in the City
- 4:52Speaker 4: of Charleston over those eight days. I mean, it was,
- 4:54Speaker 4: it was it. It shattered all expectations. Last year it
- 4:59Speaker 4: was four point three four point four million dollars in
- 5:02Speaker 4: economic impact, and we knew that it would grow this year.
- 5:05Speaker 4: It absolutely blew our expectations out of the water. Just
- 5:08Speaker 4: wait till you get to the point when you realize
- 5:10Speaker 4: and you know what you're doing.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, right, because I mean I know, I
- 5:14Speaker 3: know that as a joke, because we always say with events,
- 5:16Speaker 3: you know, the first year, yep, it's you know, okay,
- 5:18Speaker 3: we don't know what we don't know. Second year, we're
- 5:21Speaker 3: going to improve on these things. Year three is usually
- 5:24Speaker 3: when things start to really really take off. But based
- 5:26Speaker 3: on what you've done in years one and two, I
- 5:28Speaker 3: think we're on a good trajectory here.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I think so too, And that speaks to a lot
- 5:32Speaker 4: of things. And it's funny you say the three year
- 5:34Speaker 4: the year three model, because Mayor Goodwin and I talk
- 5:37Speaker 4: about that all the time. Year one you have no clue,
- 5:39Speaker 4: Year two, you're dialing it. In year three, you can
- 5:42Speaker 4: pretty much lock in on exactly what you're doing and
- 5:44Speaker 4: then really start to amplify some of the ancillary offerings
- 5:48Speaker 4: around an event. This does not happen. Speaking a mayor,
- 5:51Speaker 4: good one, This does not happen without the full support
- 5:53Speaker 4: of the City of Charleston, the Mayor's office, and literally
- 5:56Speaker 4: every department of the city has a hand in pro
- 6:00Speaker 4: Road National Championships each year, from parking to streets, to
- 6:04Speaker 4: sanitation to public works, CPD, Charleston Fire Department, Literally every
- 6:09Speaker 4: city department in some way, shape or form touches this event.
- 6:12Speaker 4: So this does not happen without the full and complete
- 6:15Speaker 4: support of the city. Doesn't happen without great partners and
- 6:18Speaker 4: sponsors like Spilm and Thomas and Battle and CAMC and
- 6:21Speaker 4: Astorg Motors some of the bigger sponsors. We had fifty
- 6:25Speaker 4: eight local sponsors this year. That's engagement, right, That's fifty
- 6:29Speaker 4: eight businesses and organizations that came to the table and said, yes,
- 6:32Speaker 4: we want to help with this. And we talked about
- 6:35Speaker 4: that economic impact six point nine million dollars. That's awesome,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and there are all kinds of really great anecdotal stories.
- 6:40Speaker 4: But the other thing that I want to make sure
- 6:42Speaker 4: we mention is there were multiple local charities that benefited
- 6:45Speaker 4: from the event while it was in town. This year,
- 6:46Speaker 4: we raised money and awareness for Mountaineer Food Bank, talking
- 6:49Speaker 4: about hunger in our community. We raised money and awareness
- 6:52Speaker 4: for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. We raised money and awareness
- 6:55Speaker 4: for the CAMC Foundation. So local charities and nonprofit organizations
- 7:01Speaker 4: benefited from this as well. It's not all about economic impact.
- 7:04Speaker 4: It is about that community impact making our community a
- 7:06Speaker 4: better place, which will help in the long run drive
- 7:09Speaker 4: additional visitation. We're partnering with the Greater Kanav Valley Foundation
- 7:14Speaker 4: to create a pilot program this fall that we'll start
- 7:17Speaker 4: with mary c Snow where we're going to get bikes
- 7:19Speaker 4: into schools and teach kids about bike safety and educate
- 7:23Speaker 4: them on cycling and maybe spark some interest and grow
- 7:28Speaker 4: kids love of cycling in our community. So all of
- 7:31Speaker 4: these things. Yes, the event is great and lots of
- 7:34Speaker 4: people came to town and lots of people spent money,
- 7:36Speaker 4: But at the end of the day, when we look
- 7:38Speaker 4: back on the end of this five year contract, I
- 7:40Speaker 4: want people to look at it and say hosting that
- 7:42Speaker 4: event made our city better.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Talking to Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention of iSER
- 7:46Speaker 3: Bureau of Dave aland showing five eighty line broad to
- 7:48Speaker 3: you by Morgan to Morgan if you're injured and hire
- 7:50Speaker 3: Morgan to Morgan in America's largest injury law firm. But
- 7:52Speaker 3: I want to go back to the very beginning of this,
- 7:55Speaker 3: when it was first discussed that this biking event was
- 7:59Speaker 3: going to be in Charleston, and obviously you were high
- 8:01Speaker 3: on it, the mayor, city council, others, other you know,
- 8:04Speaker 3: folks that are in the know, were high on this thing.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But even then, you knew it was going to be good.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Did you have any idea it was going to be
- 8:10Speaker 3: this good for the city at Charleston.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I did not, I really did not. I knew it
- 8:14Speaker 4: was going to be a great event. You know, We've
- 8:16Speaker 4: hosted enough events and enough sporting events and these types
- 8:19Speaker 4: of things that you know, we knew it was going
- 8:20Speaker 4: to be good and it would bring people to town.
- 8:24Speaker 4: I think now that I'm two years into this and
- 8:27Speaker 4: our staff is two years into this, we now see
- 8:30Speaker 4: this as a transformative opportunity for our city. I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 4: you saw this year we developed the Bike City campaign
- 8:35Speaker 4: encouraging people to get out and bike, and we're going
- 8:38Speaker 4: to continue to build upon that, uh and make Bike
- 8:41Speaker 4: City a thing. So I think when we look back
- 8:45Speaker 4: on it, As I said, it's gonna we're going to
- 8:47Speaker 4: realize that it was transformative for our city, that it
- 8:50Speaker 4: opened eyes to possibilities of what we can and can't
- 8:52Speaker 4: do in the city, Like what we what can we
- 8:54Speaker 4: what can we do if if we all pitch in
- 8:57Speaker 4: and grow our volunteer base and everybody is you know,
- 9:01Speaker 4: you know, amenable to some road closure.
- 9:03Speaker 3: What kind of big things can we do here? What?
- 9:05Speaker 4: What are the possibilities? And I would say the possibilities
- 9:08Speaker 4: are endless. Not to be cliche, but I think we'll
- 9:10Speaker 4: look back on this and say this event changed who
- 9:13Speaker 4: we are as a city in a very good way.
- 9:16Speaker 3: And for the average person that's listening right now, Tim,
- 9:19Speaker 3: I mean, these numbers are great, They're fantastic, and hats
- 9:21Speaker 3: off to you and to the city for being able
- 9:23Speaker 3: to put put all this Gaven, the sponsors and everything.
- 9:26Speaker 3: But what does this? I mean somebody may be listening
- 9:28Speaker 3: right now saying, well, you know, I I'm somebody that
- 9:30Speaker 3: works in Charleston, I'm somebody who lives in Charleston. What
- 9:33Speaker 3: are my benefits from this? Well, let's go back to.
- 9:36Speaker 4: The five hundred and ninety one thousand dollars in local
- 9:38Speaker 4: taxes generated just by this event. And that's when we
- 9:41Speaker 4: talk about tourism being economic development and civic development. That's
- 9:44Speaker 4: what we're talking about. So if you're the average person
- 9:46Speaker 4: that didn't come out and watch, really didn't care that
- 9:50Speaker 4: it was in town, it maybe impacted you a little
- 9:52Speaker 4: bit negatively because it madjeor commute to work ten minutes longer.
- 9:57Speaker 4: First of all, I would say, come out and enjoy it.
- 9:59Speaker 4: You'd have a lot of fun. But also five and
- 10:02Speaker 4: ninety one thousand dollars in local taxes generated. That's roads
- 10:05Speaker 4: that we can pave in the city of Charleston, that's
- 10:08Speaker 4: street lights that we can replace, lampposts that we can replace,
- 10:11Speaker 4: that's grounds keeping in beautification efforts that can be supported
- 10:15Speaker 4: through that type. So think about if you are that person,
- 10:19Speaker 4: look at the taxes that it generates, and also look
- 10:21Speaker 4: at the business generated in those local restaurants and shops. Anecdotally,
- 10:27Speaker 4: Friday afternoon into Friday night, the night race on Friday
- 10:31Speaker 4: from four to ten, the single best shift in the
- 10:35Speaker 4: history of Fife Street Brewing from a revenue standpoint, single
- 10:39Speaker 4: best shift of any day ever in their history, was
- 10:43Speaker 4: that Friday. People were getting tipped out significant amounts of money.
- 10:47Speaker 4: That we're working the bar, that we're bar backing, that
- 10:49Speaker 4: we're working in the kitchen. That's money that's being generated
- 10:52Speaker 4: by the people that live and work in your community.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's putting food on people's tables. That's what it's doing.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Not to be overly dramatic about it, but bringing these
- 10:59Speaker 4: events to town, concerts at the Coliseum, regatta, state high
- 11:04Speaker 4: school football, state high school basketball, concerts, children's events like
- 11:08Speaker 4: Disney on Ice, those events, bringing those to town. Yeah
- 11:12Speaker 4: they're fun and yeah they're high profile and people see
- 11:15Speaker 4: them in its entertainment, it's also how people in our
- 11:17Speaker 4: community make a living. So bringing these events to town
- 11:21Speaker 4: quite literally puts food on people's tables. That's the benefit
- 11:24Speaker 4: of these events.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And of course here in a couple of weeks we'll
- 11:27Speaker 3: be talking about TBT YEP. That's going to bring people
- 11:30Speaker 3: in even after the regatta and just one event like
- 11:33Speaker 3: this after another. I mean, Charleston is doing a lot
- 11:36Speaker 3: of great things right now. Man.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Well, and it's funny because we were talking about it.
- 11:40Speaker 4: It took us a little longer to put the economic
- 11:42Speaker 4: impact information from cycling together this year because some factors
- 11:46Speaker 4: beyond our control, but we got we finally we're getting
- 11:49Speaker 4: it all together, and it's like, well, do we release
- 11:51Speaker 4: it now with Regatta coming up or do we wait?
- 11:55Speaker 4: And I said, you know what, here's my thought. What
- 11:57Speaker 4: a great day to announce the economic impact of cycling
- 12:00Speaker 4: as we're getting ready to head into the Marquee, the
- 12:03Speaker 4: signature event in the city of Charleston each summer. So
- 12:06Speaker 4: let's talk about cycling and the positive impact it made
- 12:10Speaker 4: as we ramp up and get ready for the literally
- 12:12Speaker 4: the biggest event in the calendar year in the city
- 12:15Speaker 4: of Charleston. So it's it's a great summer because then,
- 12:18Speaker 4: as you said, you follow that up with TBT, We've
- 12:20Speaker 4: got some other things cooking for September that I can't
- 12:23Speaker 4: wait to talk to you about. And I am sitting
- 12:24Speaker 4: on that until God is over. It's just one thing
- 12:28Speaker 4: after We are an event driven city and again that's
- 12:30Speaker 4: how people make a living in our town. So it's exciting.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Six point nine million dollars in economic impact from cycling.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Regatta will dwarf that and then we just keep rolling
- 12:39Speaker 4: right into the fall.
- 12:40Speaker 6: Right.
- 12:41Speaker 3: We looking forward to talking to you again, man, Thanks
- 12:43Speaker 3: a lot, Dave. It is always a privileged to be here.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I really appreciate the opportunity you give me to share

- 15:57Speaker 9: Right, not just any event. It is the third Stern
- 16:00Speaker 9: and will Slamburrie. And it's been a part. And as
- 16:02Speaker 9: I heard you guys talking about the three year program,
- 16:04Speaker 9: this is our third year and we're moving the event
- 16:05Speaker 9: actually down in front of Hadad Riverfront Park, so a
- 16:08Speaker 9: brand new location right there in front of the stage,
- 16:11Speaker 9: I should say, at Hadad Riverfront Park. H So, I
- 16:13Speaker 9: think it's going to be really exciting. It's a new venue,
- 16:16Speaker 9: a new location, and a and a bigger show than ever.
- 16:18Speaker 3: All right, So what do we got on the on
- 16:20Speaker 3: the lineup? Well, as you know, the first way, he
- 16:22Speaker 3: like he does his hands like this, like he's so
- 16:24Speaker 3: excited about this. I get it. I mean, I mean,
- 16:26Speaker 3: you're you're, you're, you're you're a wrestling guy man, for sure,
- 16:30Speaker 3: for sure.
- 16:31Speaker 9: Thanks to the Mayor of Charleston, you know, Amy Goodwin
- 16:34Speaker 9: and Matt Sutton in her office and Tim Brady who
- 16:36Speaker 9: have all convinced them that wrestling is a big enough
- 16:38Speaker 9: deal that it should be a part of the regatta.
- 16:40Speaker 9: And uh, we take that seriously. We want to present
- 16:42Speaker 9: a great show for the people of Charleston. It's a
- 16:44Speaker 9: free show three pm bell time. And if you were
- 16:47Speaker 9: there the first year, you know we crowned our first
- 16:49Speaker 9: ever Regatta Pro Wrestling champion and that was Troy Parker. However,
- 16:53Speaker 9: due to some contractual uh uh, contractual what would you
- 16:58Speaker 9: say clauses, Bishopaylor instigated an immediate challenge to Troy Parker
- 17:03Speaker 9: and took the title from him later that evening and
- 17:05Speaker 9: has now held on to it for over seven hundred days.
- 17:08Speaker 9: And he likes to say accurately that he's the longest
- 17:11Speaker 9: reigning We're god a pro wrestling champion, But man, since then,
- 17:14Speaker 9: that was three years ago, man, And since then, Bishop
- 17:17Speaker 9: Baylor has stepped in the ring with tons of luminaries,
- 17:19Speaker 9: including the ECW legend Shane Douglas. Bishop has really upped
- 17:23Speaker 9: his game, and yet so has Troy Parker, who is
- 17:26Speaker 9: the super heavyweight striker. He's been in the ring with
- 17:30Speaker 9: Calvin Tankman at Conquest. Bishop also wrestled what's his name,
- 17:35Speaker 9: the deathmatch guy. I can't think of his name right now,
- 17:37Speaker 9: thank you, Nick Gage. So they've all up their game
- 17:40Speaker 9: in a huge way. So they are not the same
- 17:42Speaker 9: wrestlers they were three years ago, and in fact Bishop
- 17:45Speaker 9: is the Boone County Champion out of ASW your alma mater.
- 17:49Speaker 9: Then he took that title from Noah Ray, who's still
- 17:52Speaker 9: upset about it. And after the market mayhem, there was
- 17:55Speaker 9: a match for a chance at the title, and that's
- 17:57Speaker 9: when Troy Parker won the fatal four way match. But
- 17:59Speaker 9: he took it right out from under Noah Ray, and
- 18:01Speaker 9: no Array was not happy about it, challenged Bishop to
- 18:04Speaker 9: include him as well as a challenger, and so Bishop,
- 18:07Speaker 9: being the fighting champion that he is, is stepping into
- 18:10Speaker 9: the sternwill Slamboree for a triple threat Regatta Championship match.
- 18:14Speaker 5: That's going to be our main event.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I mean, you guys are a load. You get some
- 18:16Speaker 3: legends coming in for this too.
- 18:18Speaker 5: You've seen our posts.
- 18:19Speaker 9: Shout out to Matt Sutton who's been handling the social
- 18:21Speaker 9: media on Regatta Pro Wrestling's Facebook page.
- 18:24Speaker 5: Go check that out.
- 18:25Speaker 9: Yeah, we've got some legends from professional wrestling, including the
- 18:28Speaker 9: man I just mentioned, ECW legend, Shane Douglas.
- 18:31Speaker 3: The franchise.
- 18:32Speaker 9: You know, the leader of the Triple Threat is going
- 18:34Speaker 9: to be in the house and he's actually going to wrestle.
- 18:37Speaker 9: Shane Douglas is going to be stepping into the ring
- 18:39Speaker 9: against one of his proteges who maybe learned a little
- 18:42Speaker 9: too much.
- 18:43Speaker 5: From Shane Douglas.
- 18:44Speaker 9: Handsome Nick Hamrick is going to be there to challenge
- 18:47Speaker 9: Shane Douglas. They were a team for a long time,
- 18:49Speaker 9: but they've since split ways. I think Nick Hamrick's ego
- 18:52Speaker 9: has gotten the best of him, and I think Shane
- 18:54Speaker 9: Douglas is going to be there to try to bring
- 18:56Speaker 9: him back down to Planet Earth. Then George South is
- 18:59Speaker 9: going to be an action man. And George South is
- 19:00Speaker 9: no stranger to this area. He used to run pro
- 19:03Speaker 9: wrestling matches with his friend, the Italian Stallion all throughout
- 19:06Speaker 9: West Virginia.
- 19:07Speaker 10: Dave.
- 19:07Speaker 9: He came to my sister's high school at Greenbrier West
- 19:09Speaker 9: High School when she was a senior, and my sister
- 19:11Speaker 9: interviewed the Italian Stallion for their school paper. And that's
- 19:15Speaker 9: how long George South has been in West Virginia. And
- 19:17Speaker 9: he claims to have ran during the regatta back in
- 19:20Speaker 9: the day him an Italian Stallion, and he's excited to
- 19:23Speaker 9: be coming back to Charleston, and we haven't announced his
- 19:26Speaker 9: match up but it's going to be coming very very
- 19:27Speaker 9: ston And now let me just.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Say this about George South. I mean, he's a true
- 19:31Speaker 3: legend in the business. As a matter of fact, if
- 19:33Speaker 3: you watched a lot of the old Crockett stuff back
- 19:36Speaker 3: in the nineteen eighties, George South was on TV every week.
- 19:42Speaker 3: And my guy, the nature Boy, Rick Flair shout out
- 19:45Speaker 3: to Rick Flair is going to going some serious health
- 19:47Speaker 3: issues right now. Rick Flair said in an interview one time,
- 19:51Speaker 3: he said, if you could have a match with like
- 19:54Speaker 3: five other people, regardless of where they were in the
- 19:58Speaker 3: wrestling business, George South from there. Yeah. And you know,
- 20:02Speaker 3: he may not have been a big a name, as
- 20:04Speaker 3: you know the guys Rick Flair worked, like Harley Race
- 20:06Speaker 3: or Dusty or somebody like that. But that just goes
- 20:09Speaker 3: to show you the level of worksmanship that George.
- 20:12Speaker 9: He's a journeyman and a lot of people refer to
- 20:13Speaker 9: those guys as carpenters because they're so good at their craft,
- 20:16Speaker 9: you know. And as you said, Rick Flair, that's the
- 20:18Speaker 9: highest praise you could possibly get. And you know, George
- 20:21Speaker 9: South grew up watching Paul Jones in the mid Atlantic
- 20:23Speaker 9: area and he's a mid Atlantic Superstar. He still wears
- 20:27Speaker 9: the mid Atlantic logo on his boots, which is so cool.
- 20:30Speaker 3: He's such a.
- 20:30Speaker 9: Throwback to an earlier time and I can't wait for
- 20:33Speaker 9: the audience in Charleston get to get a load of
- 20:35Speaker 9: George South.
- 20:36Speaker 5: He's a unique one of a kind.
- 20:37Speaker 3: All right, and he got some more legends coming into you. Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 3: that's right.
- 20:40Speaker 6: Man.
- 20:41Speaker 9: If you were a fan of WCW in the mid
- 20:43Speaker 9: to late nineties as I was, you know you're a
- 20:46Speaker 9: fan of Marcus Alexander Bagwell aka Buff Bagwell. He's buff,
- 20:50Speaker 9: He's still the stuff, and West Virginia can't get enough
- 20:53Speaker 9: of Buff Bagwell. He's going to be there in person.
- 20:55Speaker 9: He's going to do a meet and greet and a
- 20:57Speaker 9: signing after our main event. So if you remember the nWo,
- 21:01Speaker 9: or if you remember Vicious and Delicious, or if you
- 21:03Speaker 9: remember the American Males, he's one of the most decorated
- 21:06Speaker 9: tag team athletes of all time, and he's been to Charleston.
- 21:09Speaker 9: No stranger either, man. WCW used to run here back
- 21:11Speaker 9: in the day a lot, and Buff bag Well still
- 21:14Speaker 9: one of the most popular wrestlers on the scene, and
- 21:16Speaker 9: he's going to be there for a special Meet and
- 21:18Speaker 9: greet Saturday at the Stern will Slambury three pm, bell time.
- 21:22Speaker 3: All right, and I mean you got all these folks
- 21:25Speaker 3: coming in here approximately how many people? And you've changed
- 21:27Speaker 3: your venue this year, that's right, a new location, yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 3: I had Ad. But how many people generally speaking show
- 21:32Speaker 3: up to these events out?
- 21:33Speaker 5: Oh gosh.
- 21:34Speaker 9: Well, Tim has been my crowd estimator for these years,
- 21:37Speaker 9: and they have scientific measures for which to gauge these
- 21:39Speaker 9: kind of things.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 4: We use some data provided in part by Show Walter
- 21:43Speaker 4: and associates, and we get a lot of photographic evidence.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Perry Bennett is always great about getting up high and
- 21:49Speaker 4: taking some photos for us. I mean quite frankly, the
- 21:52Speaker 4: reason that it's moving to the levee to Hadad Riverfront
- 21:55Speaker 4: Park is because slack Plaza last year was just busting
- 21:58Speaker 4: at the seams. We had over thirty five people in
- 22:00Speaker 4: the park for that event, so you know we're looking
- 22:02Speaker 4: for five thousand plus down in the bowl. That would
- 22:05Speaker 4: be a for Stern Wheel Slambery on Saturday. And the
- 22:10Speaker 4: price is right free show, that's right.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Do people need to bring their own chairs? I mean,
- 22:15Speaker 3: I know it's hat and there's some certainly kilt in
- 22:17Speaker 3: you certainly can.
- 22:18Speaker 9: We're gonna put up I think about forty chairs on
- 22:19Speaker 9: the ground beside the ring. But then also, as you know,
- 22:22Speaker 9: the the bowl down there is meant to be saddle on.
- 22:25Speaker 9: You can bring your chair there. I think more just
- 22:27Speaker 9: set up on the concrete there. And I'm hoping that
- 22:29Speaker 9: will actually be the shadiest part of the day down there.
- 22:32Speaker 11: So it may be hot.
- 22:33Speaker 5: It's going to be warm, no doubt about it, but
- 22:34Speaker 5: we will at least be in the shade.
- 22:36Speaker 9: And I just encourage people to to sunscreen up, bring
- 22:39Speaker 9: an umbrella, bring some water, and just come and get
- 22:41Speaker 9: wild with us at the stern will slammery for one day.
- 22:44Speaker 4: It becomes the Hadad river Front Sportatorium. That's I like that.
- 22:48Speaker 11: Like that too.
- 22:49Speaker 4: We're looking for five thousand people plus inside the sportatorium.
- 22:53Speaker 3: I love it. I love it. I love the sportatorium
- 22:55Speaker 3: throwback there. It's going to be exciting. Uditorium actually didn't
- 22:57Speaker 3: have air conditioning either, but we have the gentle river breeze.
- 23:02Speaker 5: That's no.
- 23:04Speaker 3: And I will say this because I was a phone
- 23:06Speaker 3: with the dome a couple of weeks ago with all
- 23:08Speaker 3: of our stations out there, and yeah, it was hot.
- 23:10Speaker 3: It was a couple of saturdays ago. But when you're
- 23:12Speaker 3: on the river down there in Dundon, I mean you tend,
- 23:16Speaker 3: you do, tend to get that little little breeze off
- 23:18Speaker 3: the river out there. What are the odds that somebody
- 23:20Speaker 3: takes a bump into the river.
- 23:22Speaker 9: Well, I don't know. I don't know about that. I
- 23:23Speaker 9: could never I could never predict anything. But yeah, we'll see.
- 23:28Speaker 9: I mean, it's gonna get wild. And in George South's
- 23:30Speaker 9: book he talks about the Italian stallion thrown him into
- 23:33Speaker 9: the river.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's all three o'clock on Saturday. Where's the
- 23:37Speaker 3: best place for people to get information? I know you
- 23:39Speaker 3: mentioned the social media definitely.
- 23:40Speaker 9: Well you can see it on the Charleston sturm Overgotta website.
- 23:43Speaker 9: Also at Regatta Pro Wrestling, we have an Instagram page
- 23:46Speaker 9: and a Facebook page, and that's probably the best place
- 23:48Speaker 9: to get the updates.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Just go ahead and hit the bell on the Facebook
- 23:51Speaker 5: page that you get.
- 23:51Speaker 9: All the announcements, because we're rolling out basically two posts
- 23:54Speaker 9: a day from here until Saturday, and so we're going
- 23:56Speaker 9: to be announcing a lot of matches in the in
- 23:58Speaker 9: the coming hours.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Actually and this is in addition everything else that's going
- 24:01Speaker 3: on there. Ever got it at the same time, we
- 24:03Speaker 3: don't want people to think this is the only event
- 24:06Speaker 3: that's going on there. At three o'clock, I mean at
- 24:07Speaker 3: that time, you got you know, the food vendors will
- 24:10Speaker 3: be set off.
- 24:11Speaker 4: We got all kinds of we've got Family Fund Zone up,
- 24:13Speaker 4: but Summer Street it's like Plaza. You've got activities in
- 24:16Speaker 4: the park, You've got other things. How you've got the
- 24:18Speaker 4: carnival going on. You've got all kinds of things happening
- 24:21Speaker 4: around the city. And that's the beauty of Regatta to
- 24:24Speaker 4: step away from specifically wrestling for just a moment. Sure
- 24:27Speaker 4: is whatever your interest is, whatever you are into, whatever
- 24:31Speaker 4: you like to do, there is something for you. If
- 24:34Speaker 4: you're a wrestling person, we've got that. If you're a
- 24:36Speaker 4: music person, we've got that. If you're a beer person,
- 24:38Speaker 4: we've got that. If you like to watch little dogs
- 24:40Speaker 4: run around in a race, we've got that.
- 24:43Speaker 3: If you like fire truck parades, we've got like, yeah,
- 24:46Speaker 3: funeral parade, that's that's the favorite guy.
- 24:48Speaker 4: We've We've got something for everyone. I know that's such
- 24:51Speaker 4: a cliched phrase, but with Regatt, it's true.
- 24:54Speaker 9: And even if you know, I love the opportunity to
- 24:56Speaker 9: get to present this in a free atmosphere. It's in
- 24:58Speaker 9: an arena. It's a place where people comfortable going, they're
- 25:01Speaker 9: familiar with it, and the casual fan might walk by,
- 25:04Speaker 9: and I hope that we're gonna at least be able
- 25:06Speaker 9: to expose them to something that they were never aware
- 25:08Speaker 9: of before. And as I said on the grill out
- 25:10Speaker 9: the other day, it's like, even if they only stay
- 25:12Speaker 9: for one match, sometimes that's more pro wrestling than they've
- 25:15Speaker 9: watched in their entire life. And even if they don't
- 25:17Speaker 9: become lifelong fans, come next year, they're going to go,
- 25:20Speaker 9: you know what, that was really fun. I'm gonna go
- 25:22Speaker 9: down for that next year. We got a bite to eat.
- 25:23Speaker 4: I promise you. In the three years of this, in
- 25:26Speaker 4: the history of this event, we have created wrestling fans
- 25:29Speaker 4: in Charleston, West Virginia.
- 25:30Speaker 5: Definitely one thousand percent. And I don't think.
- 25:31Speaker 3: People, you know, realize what a hot bed that West
- 25:36Speaker 3: Virginia is for pros and has been for a number
- 25:39Speaker 3: of years.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Definitely.
- 25:40Speaker 3: But I was at the event a couple of weeks
- 25:42Speaker 3: ago over to a Go Mark Ballpark the Hall of
- 25:45Speaker 3: Fame event with the real Shoot Wrestling. I kind of
- 25:47Speaker 3: stepped away from it years ago, but they asked me
- 25:50Speaker 3: to come back to see my good friend, Adorable Danny
- 25:52Speaker 3: Ray inducted in the Hall of Fame last yet and
- 25:54Speaker 3: asked me to give his speech, and I did and
- 25:56Speaker 3: we had a great time over their great crowd for
- 25:59Speaker 3: that event and all these other you mentioned asw which yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 3: I used to work with, but there's so many other group,
- 26:06Speaker 3: I mean various groups around the say to West Virginia.
- 26:08Speaker 3: And one thing about this said you kind of bring
- 26:10Speaker 3: in gays from different groups too.
- 26:11Speaker 11: That's right. Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 9: Part of the deal was with Regatta Pro Wrestling. It's
- 26:14Speaker 9: an umbrella organization really just meant to highlight the four
- 26:17Speaker 9: organizations that we work with, and that includes All Star Wrestling.
- 26:20Speaker 9: They run in Madison most regularly Madison, West Virginia, but
- 26:23Speaker 9: also produce the Bash in Beckley every year every June.
- 26:26Speaker 9: Then also Appalachian Championship Wrestling who run throughout the state
- 26:30Speaker 9: during the summer. They've got the b Dubs season where
- 26:33Speaker 9: we do free shows outside at the Buffalo Wild Wings
- 26:35Speaker 9: throughout the state.
- 26:36Speaker 5: Those are a ton of fun.
- 26:37Speaker 9: Then Pro Wrestling Conquest runs in Kanawa City throughout the year,
- 26:42Speaker 9: and then also the Power Slam Academy is training pro wrestlers,
- 26:44Speaker 9: and so shout out to all four of those organizations
- 26:47Speaker 9: because it really is the talent and the combined efforts
- 26:49Speaker 9: of all those organizations that make this possible. And I
- 26:52Speaker 9: have to shout out Gino's Pizza and Spaghetti House because
- 26:55Speaker 9: that's our lead sponsor this year and certainly could not
- 26:58Speaker 9: do the caliber of the show that we're trying to
- 27:00Speaker 9: do without that support.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I mean, these are you know, world class wrestlers that
- 27:03Speaker 3: are coming in here and it's a great opportunity. And
- 27:07Speaker 3: again it's absolutely free in the had Ads Sportatorium. As
- 27:10Speaker 3: mister Brady, if you've.
- 27:13Speaker 9: Been hearing about pro wrestling, you should come and check
- 27:14Speaker 9: this out. And I think the indie scene is as
- 27:16Speaker 9: is as strong as it's ever been. And that's why
- 27:18Speaker 9: may Or Goodwin and her team were so interested in
- 27:20Speaker 9: highlighting UH pro wrestling because as you said, you know,
- 27:23Speaker 9: West Virginia is a wrestling state, Charleston is a wrestling town,
- 27:25Speaker 9: and and because of the regatto, we're acting like it.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, here's the thing about it is, you
- 27:30Speaker 3: talk about the history of wrestling in Charleston. Uh, everybody's
- 27:33Speaker 3: got a story about the about the glory days, and
- 27:36Speaker 3: you know, Georgia Championship Wrestling, which later became World Championship
- 27:39Speaker 3: Wrestling came to Charleston, and they all seem to involve
- 27:41Speaker 3: Rick Flair he was around, and Damon's, Joey Damon's and Huntington.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Rick Flair and Arna Andersen and Joey's are some legendaries.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Everybody's got a story well.
- 27:54Speaker 9: And it's similar like that with Buff Bagwell for people
- 27:57Speaker 9: of a certain era, because if they came to Charleston
- 27:58Speaker 9: to see those nitros in the two thousands, chances are
- 28:02Speaker 9: they got to meet.
- 28:02Speaker 11: Buff bay Well.
- 28:03Speaker 9: I've talked to a couple people who have met Buff Bagwell,
- 28:05Speaker 9: you know, in that classic walking over to the Marriott
- 28:07Speaker 9: after the show, you know. And I got messages on
- 28:09Speaker 9: my page as soon as we announced that Buff Bagwell
- 28:11Speaker 9: was coming, like wow, I really I really loved Buff
- 28:14Speaker 9: Bagwell in the nineties, you know, Buff Daddy and all that,
- 28:16Speaker 9: and uh yeah, I remember my friend told one on
- 28:19Speaker 9: the grill out. They said there was a story where
- 28:21Speaker 9: this guy got to meet Buff Bagwell, but because he
- 28:22Speaker 9: was a heel, and he said something bad about Charleston.
- 28:24Speaker 5: He didn't want his autograph.
- 28:26Speaker 4: I just wonder when Buff Bagwell comes to town. I
- 28:29Speaker 4: just wonder how many little kids are going to go
- 28:31Speaker 4: out and say daddy.
- 28:33Speaker 3: I don't know about that, it's a possibility. I'm just saying, we.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Are West Virginia's wrestling.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Town, all right, Adam, I appreciate you being here. Thank you,
- 28:41Speaker 3: Dave tim Brady is always a pleasure to have you
- 28:43Speaker 3: on the show as well. Three o'clock, that's the time Saturday,
- 28:47Speaker 3: Saturday afternoon. There will be some some chairs provided, but
- 28:51Speaker 3: if you want to bring your own, that's fine.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Oh.
- 28:53Speaker 3: We had a quick text here said I love to
- 28:55Speaker 3: go to w CW matches at the Civic Center. Back
- 28:57Speaker 3: at early to mid nineties, people would be shocked. How
- 29:00Speaker 3: fans are women absolutely going back to Buff Bagwell again?
- 29:03Speaker 3: Then probably not.
- 29:04Speaker 9: Hey, listen, my first show was February fourteenth, nineteen ninety
- 29:07Speaker 9: two at the Coliseum and there was a lady next
- 29:09Speaker 9: to me, and in the opening match, Harley Race was
- 29:11Speaker 9: managing mister Hughes and he helped mister Hughes pick up

- 29:16Speaker 9: was yelling at the top of her lungs and win
- 29:17Speaker 9: the match in and she said, chalk that one up
- 29:18Speaker 9: to Harley Race. And I think that's where I learned

- 29:24Speaker 9: I mean, you can be yourself there or maybe be
- 29:25Speaker 9: someone you've never been in your life. At a wrestling show,
- 29:27Speaker 9: you can just let out all the troubles of your

- 29:32Speaker 9: might be going through. That's one of the reasons pro
- 29:34Speaker 9: wrestling is so exciting and so popular is because you

- 32:56Speaker 3: but boy, those were some wild times with the Nature

- 33:03Speaker 3: I've actually done some shows with Rick Flair and my

- 34:46Speaker 3: the great State of West Virginia. Quick programming note for
- 34:50Speaker 3: tomorrow's Metro News Midday show. Former and US Senator Joe
- 34:54Speaker 3: Manchin is going to join us in studio on the
- 34:57Speaker 3: show tomorrow. And always I always look forward to having
- 35:01Speaker 3: having Senator Mansion on and he's in an interesting position
- 35:04Speaker 3: in his life right now where he's doing things in
- 35:06Speaker 3: a private sector. When I talked to him last week,
- 35:09Speaker 3: he was actually in Canada a bigger limited cell phone coverage.
- 35:14Speaker 3: But he's back. I was gonna say, he's back, Yeah,
- 35:16Speaker 3: he's he's back Stateside. I don't know when you're talking
- 35:19Speaker 3: about Canada if that's accurate. I mean, I guess it is.
- 35:22Speaker 3: But anyway, he'll be lower forty eight. The lower forty eight. Yes,
- 35:27Speaker 3: thank you, Amy, Amy, Amy Breed Love who's going to
- 35:29Speaker 3: be doing the show for me on Thursday. I appreciate that. Yeah, so,
- 35:33Speaker 3: But I have a feeling Joe's going to want to
- 35:35Speaker 3: weigh in on some of the things going on. I
- 35:37Speaker 3: don't know what the status by Wednesday will be at
- 35:40Speaker 3: the Big Beautiful Bill, but I have a feeling that
- 35:42Speaker 3: former Senator Mansion is going to want to weigh in
- 35:44Speaker 3: on that add some other things. So he'll be on
- 35:45Speaker 3: the show coming up tomorrow. As I said, you do
- 35:48Speaker 3: not want to miss anytime. Joe Manchion is whether he'll
- 35:50Speaker 3: actually join us in studio tomorrow on this show tomorrow.
- 35:54Speaker 3: The regatta isn't the only big Fourth of July event
- 35:57Speaker 3: going on, it's certainly the biggest. But the folks in
- 35:59Speaker 3: my town have heard, Hurri I've got big things going
- 36:01Speaker 3: on on the fourth of July. We're going to talk
- 36:03Speaker 3: to them about that on tomorrow's show. Also a lot
- 36:05Speaker 3: of big news lately about West Virginia International Yeager Airport.
- 36:09Speaker 3: The CEO of the airport, Domini Grenari, is going to
- 36:12Speaker 3: join us on tomorrow's show. And remember I will not
- 36:14Speaker 3: being doing the local show or the network show on Thursday.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Amy breed Love, who you just heard from, voiceover artist extraordinaire,
- 36:22Speaker 3: is going to play host for me on Thursday on
- 36:24Speaker 3: the local show. That's going to be a show that's
- 36:26Speaker 3: entirely devoted to the God. I think mayor a good
- 36:29Speaker 3: one is going to become a buy and some other
- 36:31Speaker 3: folks to kind of give us an overview of the
- 36:32Speaker 3: regatta because it all starts on Thursday. So Amy will
- 36:36Speaker 3: be in to handle that and Amanda Baron will stick around.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Normally Amanda leaves it too, but she's actually going to
- 36:41Speaker 3: stick around to the three o'clock hour before she goes
- 36:43Speaker 3: off and does her other job at that little thing
- 36:45Speaker 3: she does down the street. So that's coming up on
- 36:48Speaker 3: Thursday show. As I will be taking the day off,
- 36:51Speaker 3: I will be back next Monday. I will be on
- 36:52Speaker 3: the show though tomorrow. The Dave Island Show on five

- 37:08Speaker 3: I do want to go back to the announcement about
- 37:10Speaker 3: the new facility in Bell and again the CEO of
- 37:13Speaker 3: clean Seas that's the name of the company, John Yost,
- 37:16Speaker 3: is going to join Amanda and Me on Metro News
- 37:19Speaker 3: midday letter today. Cat Skelton writes about it at wv
- 37:22Speaker 3: metronews dot com. It's located in the former eighty four
- 37:25Speaker 3: Lumber building in Bell and they had the groundbreaking ceremonies
- 37:29Speaker 3: there yesterday. So basically, as best I understand what they do,
- 37:32Speaker 3: according to Kant's story, they take plastic pieces from landfills
- 37:37Speaker 3: and convert them into clean feedstock with the eventual goal
- 37:41Speaker 3: of producing what is called allied aqua TM hydrogen. I
- 37:48Speaker 3: don't pretend to understand how any of that works, but
- 37:52Speaker 3: a lot of people are high on them. And it
- 37:54Speaker 3: basically breaks down the plastic into solids, liquids, and gases,
- 37:58Speaker 3: and it keeps the plastics that have been in the
- 38:00Speaker 3: landfill from just sitting there and turns them into something useful.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Now it should create about forty jobs, they're saying, and
- 38:10Speaker 3: it's supposed to be up and running by the end
- 38:11Speaker 3: of the year. It is interesting to me, though, when
- 38:15Speaker 3: we have these announcements, it seems like that it's kind
- 38:19Speaker 3: of a I'm gonna say this, it's kind of an
- 38:23Speaker 3: up and down because we will have an announcement about
- 38:27Speaker 3: these jobs coming and this is in bell but in
- 38:29Speaker 3: other areas of the state as well, But then we
- 38:31Speaker 3: have announcements like we did last week about a couple
- 38:33Speaker 3: of hundred coal miners losing their jobs from that facility,
- 38:37Speaker 3: from that company that was based out of Raleigh County.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Primarily Fayette County was going to be the hardest hit
- 38:42Speaker 3: though by that. So it just seems like West Virginia
- 38:44Speaker 3: just can't seem to gain any ground because one day
- 38:46Speaker 3: we have an announcement about jobs coming, and the next day,
- 38:48Speaker 3: excuse me, we have an announcement about jobs going away.
- 38:52Speaker 3: And so we've gotta try to even those things out
- 38:55Speaker 3: make that not occur that way. But just and just
- 39:01Speaker 3: there seems to be again every day at groundbreaking and
- 39:04Speaker 3: an announcement about some jobs lost. Of course, we saw
- 39:06Speaker 3: the green power facility in South Charleston, and we don't
- 39:10Speaker 3: know exactly what's going to happen happen there, but a
- 39:13Speaker 3: lot of conflicting stories on the economic front in West Virginia.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I will say this that the revenue numbers are due out.
- 39:20Speaker 3: I think today with this being July first, and I
- 39:23Speaker 3: think that the Revenue Secretary, mister Nelson is going to
- 39:27Speaker 3: be on talkline tomorrow. We had some meetings today and
- 39:30Speaker 3: he wasn't able to make talk line today. He will
- 39:32Speaker 3: be on talkline coming up on tomorrow's show. But Dave

- 41:16Speaker 14: It's so hard. How I'm going to do your job?
- 41:19Speaker 3: She said, tongue in cheek. Now we're going to be

- 41:25Speaker 3: I will be here in others and so exciting. Not
- 41:27Speaker 3: that you need help, because well, because you can. You
- 41:30Speaker 3: got this, I'm pretty sure.
- 41:31Speaker 14: And speaking of the building, as you were saying that,
- 41:33Speaker 14: I was thinking, it's great seeing the building in downtown
- 41:36Speaker 14: Charleston with the Polka Valley Bank and what is the
- 41:39Speaker 14: large building right beside the river where Caskey was.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yes, TC, it's oddly oddly enough, you and I both
- 41:48Speaker 3: had a brain lock at the same time because I,
- 41:50Speaker 3: for some reason I could think, goodness, TJ. Meadows was

- 41:53Speaker 14: But I haven't seen a crane like I was. My

- 42:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I mean, there's a lot of great things

- 45:17Speaker 3: a lot about regatta. It begins on Thursday runs through Sunday.
- 45:21Speaker 3: And I don't know if you've caught this or not.
- 45:23Speaker 3: In the various interviews that the mayor did on the
- 45:26Speaker 3: show yesterday, she was on this show, she was on
- 45:30Speaker 3: talk Line, she was our Mayor Monday subject on Metro
- 45:34Speaker 3: News Midday. Of course we talk to a different mayor
- 45:36Speaker 3: every Monday, and in that segment she was more or
- 45:38Speaker 3: less selling Charleston. But we did get in for Gott
- 45:40Speaker 3: to talk as well. She has She's laid it out
- 45:45Speaker 3: pretty much and that I think I'm pretty sure she
- 45:49Speaker 3: said this on the air. If not, I'm going to
- 45:50Speaker 3: say it on the air. Hope I don't get in
- 45:51Speaker 3: trouble with the mayor, but she is gonna run for
- 45:55Speaker 3: reelection at least one more term. Next year is an
- 45:58Speaker 3: election year in Charleston, and if she is re elected,
- 46:02Speaker 3: she would be on her third term. And it's still early.
- 46:07Speaker 3: Don't know if anyone plans on running against her, but
- 46:10Speaker 3: I will say it would be very tough to beat
- 46:15Speaker 3: Amy Goodwin in Charleston right now, as the last gentleman
- 46:20Speaker 3: who ran against her found out. People in Charleston generally speaking,
- 46:26Speaker 3: are very happy with the job that she has done,
- 46:30Speaker 3: whether it was securing the sponsors to bring back Regatta
- 46:34Speaker 3: or the Pro road Bike Championships that she worked with
- 46:38Speaker 3: the cv B on. You know, no cities perfect by
- 46:42Speaker 3: any stretch of the imagination, but there's a lot of
- 46:46Speaker 3: positive energy going on in Charleston. I mentioned this a
- 46:49Speaker 3: couple of days ago. I was when we launched Steve
- 46:54Speaker 3: Animal from our sister station ninety eight seven Mountains Beer
- 46:57Speaker 3: at Fife Street. A couple of fridays ago, I myself
- 47:01Speaker 3: and Stephanie, one of our producers of Midday, we actually
- 47:03Speaker 3: walked down from the station down to Fife Street because
- 47:07Speaker 3: a new parking would be an issue, and it was
- 47:10Speaker 3: a major issue, and even though it was hot, I'm
- 47:12Speaker 3: kind of glad we walked. So we walked from the
- 47:13Speaker 3: station down there in that area around Slack Plaza where
- 47:17Speaker 3: five Street is, where some of the other places you
- 47:20Speaker 3: couldn't have got another person on a Friday night. And
- 47:24Speaker 3: you know, not to play class ism here, but it's
- 47:28Speaker 3: the kind of people you wanted down there. It was
- 47:31Speaker 3: a lot of professional type people, or were older people,
- 47:33Speaker 3: or there were young people, people with kids, people playing
- 47:35Speaker 3: music out on the street. There's a vibe going on
- 47:38Speaker 3: to downtown Charles. Now is it perfect?
- 47:41Speaker 10: No?
- 47:41Speaker 3: I mean, and the mayor or the police or anybody
- 47:44Speaker 3: else here would tell you that. But there's an energy
- 47:48Speaker 3: going on in the capital city right now. I've been
- 47:52Speaker 3: doing this show for five years. Amy lives out of state,
- 47:55Speaker 3: but she comes to visits us on summer. Comment on
- 47:58Speaker 3: that a little bit. I mean, that's here half the
- 48:01Speaker 3: year and gone half the year. Talk about it.
- 48:03Speaker 14: It feels so positive this year. I mean, we've been
- 48:06Speaker 14: doing the snowbirding thing for seven years now, and like
- 48:12Speaker 14: I think Tim mentioned earlier each year or you said,
- 48:16Speaker 14: you know, by year three, but I can tell a
- 48:18Speaker 14: difference each year that things just become more positive, more beautiful,
- 48:23Speaker 14: more fun, more exuberant.
- 48:27Speaker 3: And somebody, I mean like with the with the revamping
- 48:29Speaker 3: of the Colosseeem and Convention Center. I mean, we did
- 48:31Speaker 3: the reds Caravan there back in January. There were three
- 48:35Speaker 3: major events going on at the colos Seem Convention Center.
- 48:37Speaker 3: At the same time. You had an A list country
- 48:40Speaker 3: artist performing you had the Red's Caravan. Uh, and then
- 48:44Speaker 3: there was another event for some reason, it escapes me
- 48:46Speaker 3: so what it was, but there was. But you had
- 48:47Speaker 3: three Josh Skates was here. You had three major events
- 48:51Speaker 3: going on at one time in that particular build. Oh
- 48:55Speaker 3: the Honeting and Fishing Show, that's what it was. Oh yeah,
- 48:57Speaker 3: that was a honting. So you had the Honey and
- 48:58Speaker 3: Fishing Show, you had the Red's Caravan, and you had
- 49:01Speaker 3: an a list country singer all playing at the same
- 49:04Speaker 3: time in one building. And that's something that wasn't going
- 49:08Speaker 3: on ten years ago. And the people that are coming
- 49:12Speaker 3: to the Clay Center and the revitalization of downtown, the
- 49:16Speaker 3: closing down the streets for dining and things of that
- 49:19Speaker 3: aturee again. And am I sitting here with rose colored
- 49:22Speaker 3: glasses on and thinking everything in Charleston is perfect?
- 49:24Speaker 13: No?
- 49:24Speaker 3: Absolutely not. There's issues. There's major issues. But my god,
- 49:27Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you, I've been doing this show for
- 49:29Speaker 3: five years. It's a lot better than and that five
- 49:31Speaker 3: years ago was a COVID year. I get that there's
- 49:33Speaker 3: a lot of positive stuff going on and a lot
- 49:35Speaker 3: of people moving into the area.
- 49:37Speaker 14: I have a friend that just lived in she lived
- 49:40Speaker 14: in Orlando for forty eight years, and she has family
- 49:43Speaker 14: in Saint Albans, and she decided to move to Charleston
- 49:46Speaker 14: because she loves the architecture, she loves the music scene.
- 49:50Speaker 14: She's already been over to folklore music. I don't know
- 49:52Speaker 14: how many times. She's a guitarist, she's a singer. She's
- 49:55Speaker 14: been on the road with the Indigo Girls, and she
- 49:57Speaker 14: loves Charleston. So she's made her home here living in
- 50:01Speaker 14: I think it's saying no Hurricane Hurricane, yes.
- 50:04Speaker 3: But loves it.
- 50:06Speaker 14: Yeah, and I need to show her Mortar Man.
- 50:09Speaker 3: A lot of good things going on, not only in Charleston,
- 50:11Speaker 3: but I mean throughout the Kanawh Valley as well. We
- 50:13Speaker 3: got issues, Absolutely, we have issues, but so does everywhere.
- 50:15Speaker 14: I think my uncle used to say, there's room for improvement.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and I tell you there's some great things going
- 50:20Speaker 3: on where I live in Day's Valley right now. You
- 50:22Speaker 3: can't get another person in there, but we're trying.
- 50:24Speaker 14: Gosh, I love valley naturals.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's uh am I low to say that. Yeah,
- 50:28Speaker 3: I don't care. You know, whatever you want. I'm going
- 50:30Speaker 3: to be off on Thursday. And if you get fired,
- 50:32Speaker 3: we'll just have dead air. You know, they'll just think,
- 50:34Speaker 3: they'll just think I'm doing there. You can't fire somebody
- 50:36Speaker 3: that doesn't work here, Amy, so you don't work here,
- 50:38Speaker 3: so you know, so uh you know, there you go.
- 50:41Speaker 3: But you did work here back.
- 50:42Speaker 14: And then I did, yes, and I got fired, so
- 50:45Speaker 14: you know, Okay, you know so. But I've heard that
- 50:47Speaker 14: you actually make it in radio when you get fired.
- 50:50Speaker 14: So there you go.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Do you know I have to say, thirty seven years
- 50:52Speaker 3: into business, fingers crossed, and today's still young. I've never
- 50:56Speaker 3: been fired yet, not from the radio business anyway.
- 51:00Speaker 14: Well, we don't want you've already made it.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean we probably I can nave
- 51:05Speaker 3: about four or five people in this building right now
- 51:07Speaker 3: that have all been fired at one time or another.
- 51:09Speaker 3: But that's we're forgiving lot in radio. TJ. Meadows did
- 51:13Speaker 3: not get fired, Uh, did you g Yeah, Well the
- 51:16Speaker 3: day's still young for you too.
- 51:17Speaker 10: I've never been fired from this company, though, I don't
- 51:20Speaker 10: have I ever been fired anywhere.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 51:23Speaker 10: I have to think about it.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Okay, all right, it's not a big show today.
- 51:27Speaker 10: I've failed many times. Just let me tell you that
- 51:29Speaker 10: I have failed many times. And you know, honestly, if
- 51:31Speaker 10: you haven't failed, you haven't tried.
- 51:33Speaker 3: That's a good point.
- 51:34Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean you need to failure as a friend.
- 51:36Speaker 10: And the sooner you realize that, the better off you're
- 51:39Speaker 10: going to be, because everybody fails at one point or another.
- 51:41Speaker 10: There my wisdom for the day. Jered Halpern, Fox News
- 51:44Speaker 10: on the Big Beautiful Bill kicks us off at ten
- 51:46Speaker 10: oh six.
- 51:46Speaker 3: A lot happening. I was literally just looking.
- 51:49Speaker 10: Murkowski just got Alaska back in on these carve out provisions.
- 51:53Speaker 10: So if Alaska is getting there's is West Virginia gonna
- 51:55Speaker 10: get there? There you go. So we're going to get
- 51:58Speaker 10: into that. Al Thompson, remember he's the mayor of Davis,
- 52:01Speaker 10: West Virginia. That data center that's being talked about. Big
- 52:03Speaker 10: meeting last night. We'll review with him and see what
- 52:05Speaker 10: happened and see where they are on that. Mike Murphy,
- 52:08Speaker 10: chief of staff for the Committee for a Responsible Budget
- 52:11Speaker 10: coming up. Evan Brown on the coburger plea deal. Fred Pursinger,
- 52:15Speaker 10: the man, the myth, the legend.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I love Fred on the show today, big award for
- 52:19Speaker 3: him last night. We'll talk about that.
- 52:21Speaker 4: All right, that's coming up on the talk line with
- 52:23Speaker 4: Wilson and Meadows. Coming up today ten o'clock ten oh
- 52:27Speaker 4: sixty be exact. I'll be back at the Metro News
