- 0:32Speaker 3: Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, a little thing we
- 0:35Speaker 3: like to call the after party. This is the show
- 0:38Speaker 3: after the show, the party after the party, the bridge
- 0:39Speaker 3: to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to
- 0:42Speaker 3: the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt. On
- 0:45Speaker 3: this bonus episode, we are talking about the shockingly stupid
- 0:48Speaker 3: evidence that's piling up against hip hop star David's alleged
- 0:53Speaker 3: gruesome murder of a fourteen year old. We're also discussing
- 0:56Speaker 3: the mount rushmore of guitar players. We got an update
- 0:59Speaker 3: on our May Madness sitcom music Slugfest, plus your voicemails, texts, emails, DMS, comments,
- 1:05Speaker 3: and as always, a whole lot of rosie. This is
- 1:08Speaker 3: the podcast for the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent
- 1:11Speaker 3: thinkers who know that the best history is the history
- 1:13Speaker 3: that gets buried. Disgrace Lands where I tell the stories
- 1:16Speaker 3: they didn't want told, the kind you'll end up telling
- 1:18Speaker 3: someone else.
- 1:19Speaker 5: All Right, disc goes, Let's get into it, all right.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I don't want to come off as outraged or shocked,
- 1:36Speaker 3: but that's what I am, right And I'm kind of
- 1:39Speaker 3: pissed off at myself because all last week we were
- 1:43Speaker 3: talking about the quote unquote most upsetting stories from music history,
- 1:49Speaker 3: and there was one developing in real time right under
- 1:52Speaker 3: our noses, and we didn't talk about it. I'm talking
- 1:55Speaker 3: about David, the rising hip hop star whose name is
- 1:59Speaker 3: spelled D four VD and the alleged murder, gruesome murder
- 2:06Speaker 3: of a fourteen year old his fourteen year old girlfriend. Now,
- 2:12Speaker 3: the story of David and his fourteen year old girlfriend,
- 2:15Speaker 3: Celeste Revs Hernandez, it's about as upsetting as it gets.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I've known about the allegations against David for some time now,
- 2:25Speaker 3: this story has been in the news, but a lot
- 2:28Speaker 3: of new news broke over the last call it week
- 2:32Speaker 3: and a half something like that when a new evidence
- 2:34Speaker 3: brief was introduced in court in Los Angeles regarding this case,
- 2:41Speaker 3: and what came out of that brief are shocking, shocking
- 2:46Speaker 3: details about this crime that this star is being alleged
- 2:51Speaker 3: to have committed now again, his fourteen year old girlfriend,
- 2:55Speaker 3: Celeste Revs Hernandez. You might see her name as just
- 2:59Speaker 3: as Celeste. I've seen it both ways, celest Rivus Hernandez,
- 3:02Speaker 3: celest Revs. BBC had the Hernandez part, so did Rolling Stone.
- 3:05Speaker 3: That's what I'm going with. So the victim, Celeste Revus Hernandez,
- 3:10Speaker 3: was fourteen years old, eleven years old when this musician,
- 3:13Speaker 3: David met her.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Okay, Now I.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Was also I was aware of that, and I was
- 3:19Speaker 3: also aware of the grizzly nature of this crime, the
- 3:25Speaker 3: grizzly act, which this artist is being accused of. But
- 3:29Speaker 3: I was unaware of the details, like I said, until today.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And that's because those details came out in court in
- 3:34Speaker 3: this new evidence brief and yesterday. Presumably because the details
- 3:38Speaker 3: of this crime are so damning, are so gruesome, David's
- 3:43Speaker 3: defense team formally requested and received a delay in the trial. Now, normally,
- 3:50Speaker 3: in a case like this that's developing, you know, as
- 3:53Speaker 3: we're talking to each other week to week, I typically
- 3:56Speaker 3: avoid those stories unless they're huge, like the Sean Ditecomb story.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I typically avoid those stories until all the dust is
- 4:02Speaker 3: settled until there's been a trial, until there's been some
- 4:05Speaker 3: sort of legal resolution, until all of the news has
- 4:09Speaker 3: come out for the most part, and you know, at
- 4:12Speaker 3: that point, I can piece together the story and I
- 4:14Speaker 3: can tell it to you. This story, on the other hand,
- 4:17Speaker 3: is a little bit different. It's a little bit like
- 4:19Speaker 3: the Shawan Combs story because these details are unbelievable, and
- 4:23Speaker 3: you know, again it's all alleged, but I have a
- 4:27Speaker 3: real feeling about this one. Okay, these facts, these details,
- 4:34Speaker 3: the stuff that's going on in this Los Angeles court
- 4:36Speaker 3: room surrounding this artist, it's gonna be too hard for
- 4:41Speaker 3: us to ignore. So I'm gonna get into it with
- 4:43Speaker 3: you guys here in the after Party bonus episodes, and
- 4:46Speaker 3: I'm absolutely telling this story as soon as this trial wraps.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It's fascinating, like I said, and it's totally upsetting for
- 4:53Speaker 3: those who are unaware. Okay, here we go. Up until
- 4:56Speaker 3: last fall, David was one of the Pop six Rising
- 5:01Speaker 3: Stars Okay last year. Last spring twenty twenty five, he
- 5:05Speaker 3: turned in an acclaimed performance at Coachella. He showed up
- 5:09Speaker 3: at Fashion Week in Paris. He booked a bunch of
- 5:13Speaker 3: brand deals. This guy was a real rising star. This
- 5:16Speaker 3: was not some you know, hip hop artist with a
- 5:20Speaker 3: SoundCloud who got into trouble and who they're trying to
- 5:23Speaker 3: make it seem like he had this real career when
- 5:25Speaker 3: he didn't, just so they can get clicks and inflate
- 5:28Speaker 3: his importance so that the story seems more relevant. No,
- 5:31Speaker 3: this guy, No, this guy was a legit rising star
- 5:36Speaker 3: until they found a body in the trunk of his tesla.
- 5:41Speaker 3: The body was the victim his fourteen year old girlfriend,
- 5:45Speaker 3: Celeste Revus Hernandez. Fourteen years old. I can't get over this.
- 5:51Speaker 3: I just cannot. Her poor poor parents, her poor family.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Now the story. That's why I love these court documents.
- 6:03Speaker 3: They read like they sometimes, if they're done right, they
- 6:06Speaker 3: read like incredible crime novels. The details, the compelling details
- 6:13Speaker 3: in the evidence brief that was released just last week,
- 6:17Speaker 3: are amazing. The story goes like this. It's alleged that
- 6:21Speaker 3: David began pursuing Celeste when she was eleven years old
- 6:25Speaker 3: and he was eighteen, and it's unclear when exactly they
- 6:28Speaker 3: actually hooked up, but it does appear from what I
- 6:31Speaker 3: read that the relationship began in earnest, when she was thirteen.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Years old, and again he was a full grown man.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Reportedly, as the new evidence brief indicates, David drove his
- 6:40Speaker 3: car down to Celeste junior.
- 6:44Speaker 2: High school, high school.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I'm not exactly sure, fourteen years old, probably high school freshman.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I'm guessing David drove his car down there was like
- 6:53Speaker 3: a south of Los Angeles, and he found one of
- 6:56Speaker 3: Celeste's classmates paid him a thousand dollars to deliver a
- 7:02Speaker 3: cell phone to Celest so that he could communicate with
- 7:05Speaker 3: the fourteen year old, presumably because her parents were onto
- 7:08Speaker 3: the situation and didn't want their daughter communicating with a
- 7:14Speaker 3: twenty one year old or twenty year however year old
- 7:16Speaker 3: he was at the time, twenty twenty one year old
- 7:18Speaker 3: man understandably, so he pays this dude a thousand bucks
- 7:22Speaker 3: as kid, I should say, a thousand bucks to deliver
- 7:24Speaker 3: the cell phone to Celeste. Now, texts recovered from that
- 7:29Speaker 3: cell phone there's a lot of sexual content. There's photos, photographs, video,
- 7:35Speaker 3: I think as well of the two of them, and
- 7:38Speaker 3: there's a lot of conversations between the two about sex
- 7:42Speaker 3: and about the consequences of sex, pregnancy, the morning after
- 7:45Speaker 3: pill et cetera. There's also of course their conversation their
- 7:49Speaker 3: normal conversation, and in the course of that conversation, at
- 7:52Speaker 3: some point, Celeste becomes annoyed with David and complaints that
- 7:59Speaker 3: quote all we do is have sex and just hang out,
- 8:02Speaker 3: and I want more than that for myself unquote. Now,
- 8:06Speaker 3: the evidence brief claims that in November of twenty twenty four,
- 8:10Speaker 3: just as David's career is taking off in earnest, as
- 8:15Speaker 3: plans to perform at Coachella are cemented, as his trip
- 8:18Speaker 3: to Paris for fashion Week is coming into play, as
- 8:22Speaker 3: big dollar brand deals are being booked. Right around this time,
- 8:25Speaker 3: Celeste starts to get jealous of David's rising star and
- 8:29Speaker 3: worried about his growing success and what that meant for
- 8:32Speaker 3: their relationship. That's when David breaks it off with Celeste.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Prosecutors claim that the text reveal that Celeste was extremely
- 8:40Speaker 3: upset and threatened to use the evidence that she had
- 8:44Speaker 3: I'm assuming the photographs of his sexual nature that the
- 8:46Speaker 3: two were texting back and forth to one another to
- 8:49Speaker 3: take their relationship public into quote unquote. The brief actually
- 8:52Speaker 3: says that this is what Celeste told David she was
- 8:56Speaker 3: going to bring the relationship public to quote destroy his life.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Can you imagine the defense attorneys hearing this evidence, getting
- 9:06Speaker 3: wind of this evidence, It's no wonder they requested that
- 9:09Speaker 3: the trial be delayed so that they can prepare. Court
- 9:12Speaker 3: reporters revealed via TMZ that as this evidence was being recounted,
- 9:16Speaker 3: David sat slouched in his chair the entire time, apparently
- 9:21Speaker 3: completely nonplused, and apparently the recounting of the details of
- 9:25Speaker 3: this shocking crime did not rattle the young musician. Prosecutors
- 9:30Speaker 3: are claiming that in the midst of this breakup between
- 9:32Speaker 3: David and Celeste, David sent an uber to pick Celeste
- 9:36Speaker 3: up on April twenty third, twenty twenty five. Celeste then
- 9:40Speaker 3: arrived at David's home according to Uber records, at ten
- 9:45Speaker 3: ten pm okay, and it appears that by ten thirty pm,
- 9:51Speaker 3: Celeste was dead, stabbed to death allegedly by her boyfriend,
- 9:56Speaker 3: who sat and watched as the fourteen year old bled
- 9:59Speaker 3: out on his floor right in front of him. At
- 10:02Speaker 3: ten thirty, David texted Celeste asking where she was now.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Prosecutors claim that this was part of the cover up. Okay,
- 10:09Speaker 3: David the concerned boyfriend texting about his girlfriend's whereabouts. How
- 10:14Speaker 3: dumb is this guy? The Uber driver dropped her off
- 10:17Speaker 3: at his home in the Hollywood Hills. I don't understand
- 10:22Speaker 3: what the dude was thinking. Was he going to claim
- 10:25Speaker 3: that the coyotes gut her? That uh Manson family cast
- 10:31Speaker 3: offs there are still roaming the Hollywood Hills. Perhaps they
- 10:33Speaker 3: took Celeste. It's unclear what David is alleged to have
- 10:37Speaker 3: done with the body in the immediate aftermath, because it
- 10:39Speaker 3: took the musician six days to order from Amazon and Postmates,
- 10:44Speaker 3: and I kid you not two chainsaws, a body bag,
- 10:49Speaker 3: two heavy duty laundry bags, and a small blue inflatable
- 10:53Speaker 3: kiddie pool that he had delivered to his house again
- 10:57Speaker 3: where the uber dropped off his girlfriend, who is now
- 11:00Speaker 3: reported missing a few weeks after the chainsaws and the
- 11:04Speaker 3: body bag were delivered. Weird question, by the way, when
- 11:07Speaker 3: did we start making it so you could order body
- 11:10Speaker 3: bags off of Amazon? But that's just beside the point anyway.
- 11:14Speaker 3: A few days after the chain saws and the body
- 11:16Speaker 3: bag were delivered to David's home, David started visiting a
- 11:18Speaker 3: remote piece of land off of Route one fifty four
- 11:20Speaker 3: in Santa Barbara County. Presumably this is authorities figured out
- 11:25Speaker 3: where David went here after his girlfriend went missing, because
- 11:29Speaker 3: tesla's they make a digital record where the car goes.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But David here, our criminal mastermind, our mensa candidate, did
- 11:38Speaker 3: not know this, and we should just remind people. He
- 11:42Speaker 3: also had the victim delivered to his house an uber
- 11:46Speaker 3: that he paid for.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Okay, so my.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Point is, I guess it's no wonder that he didn't
- 11:52Speaker 3: realize that the Tesla's GPS was recording where he was going. Anyways,
- 11:58Speaker 3: the order of events here from the evidence brief, But
- 12:01Speaker 3: what prosecutors are alleging in short, is that David stabs
- 12:06Speaker 3: Celeste in his home, then hid her identification somewhere on
- 12:10Speaker 3: the side of the road, then dismembered her body with
- 12:13Speaker 3: a chainsaw that he ordered from Home deep O via Postmates,
- 12:19Speaker 3: and he did that in an inflatable pool that he
- 12:22Speaker 3: purchased on Amazon, and then stuffed her in a body
- 12:24Speaker 3: bag that he also purchased on Amazon, put the dismembered
- 12:27Speaker 3: and bag body into the trunk of his Tesla. Now
- 12:31Speaker 3: it's alleged in the brief that friends complained about the
- 12:36Speaker 3: smell coming from the car, and that David then moved
- 12:38Speaker 3: his car to the street about four hundred feet from
- 12:42Speaker 3: his house, again MENSA candidate, and left it there with
- 12:45Speaker 3: the rank body decomposing in the trunk. David then split
- 12:50Speaker 3: for tour in July of twenty twenty five. While he's
- 12:54Speaker 3: gone on tour, his cars towed and impounded. The flies
- 13:00Speaker 3: ring around the car in the towyard were relentless, apparently,
- 13:05Speaker 3: so the trunk of the car was opened, celess dismembered
- 13:09Speaker 3: head and torso were found, her ring and middle fingers
- 13:12Speaker 3: were not. David's home was eventually searched, and of all
- 13:16Speaker 3: the stupid shit that this dude is a led show
- 13:19Speaker 3: dumb thus far, this might be the dumbest, and reading
- 13:22Speaker 3: the evidence brief, I can't be certain, but it appears
- 13:25Speaker 3: that this guy kept the kiddie pool, the blue inflatable
- 13:29Speaker 3: kiddie pool that he bought on Amazon and that he
- 13:34Speaker 3: used to capture the blood from the dismembering of the body.
- 13:37Speaker 3: He kept that in his garage and it was found
- 13:40Speaker 3: when police searched his home. If record sales correlated to stupidity,
- 13:46Speaker 3: this guy would be Michael fucking Jackson. Now, there are
- 13:50Speaker 3: many many acts of supreme stupidity from rock stars throughout
- 13:53Speaker 3: music history from the benign and the innocent to the
- 13:57Speaker 3: depraved and the gruesome, and I asked Zeth to come
- 13:59Speaker 3: up with the list for us to discuss in the
- 14:02Speaker 3: exclusive section of the afterparty coming up right after this,
- 14:05Speaker 3: go to Disgrace sampod dot com to unlock exclusive content
- 14:07Speaker 3: like this plus ad free listening.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Now.
- 14:10Speaker 3: I don't think there's any way David gets off, but
- 14:13Speaker 3: we have to just note all of this is alleged.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Nothing has been proven. This guy is still innocent until
- 14:18Speaker 3: proven guilty. There's so much more evidence in the brief
- 14:22Speaker 3: here that I did not get into that is truly
- 14:25Speaker 3: dramatic and that we're going to dive into. Like I said,
- 14:28Speaker 3: once the trial ends, we'll do a proper episode on David. Now, Okay,
- 14:31Speaker 3: Steve Ravaughan, is he on your Mount Rushmore guitarist? We
- 14:35Speaker 3: released our SRV episode this week, and that was the
- 14:38Speaker 3: question of the week that we asked. We'll get into
- 14:39Speaker 3: your answers shortly. I'm sure some of you will have
- 14:42Speaker 3: something to say about the Sean Combs episodes as well
- 14:45Speaker 3: that we released over the weekend as part of our
- 14:47Speaker 3: rewind coming up next right after this episode on Sunday
- 14:51Speaker 3: and our rewind slot. This week our episode on Ariana
- 14:54Speaker 3: Grande and the tragedy that took the lives of twenty
- 14:57Speaker 3: two people at her show in Manchester in two thousand seventeen,
- 15:01Speaker 3: and then next week on Tuesday, our new episode on
- 15:03Speaker 3: Christina Grimmy. This is another tragic tale, the story of
- 15:07Speaker 3: a young talent who is gunned down by a deranged psychopath.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And the question I want you guys to be thinking
- 15:14Speaker 3: about what you're listening to this Christina Grimmy episode is
- 15:17Speaker 3: which rockstar assassination affected you the most? I can tell
- 15:20Speaker 3: you from me, it was most certainly John Lennon's assassination.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I was a little boy.
- 15:25Speaker 3: It messed me up and you know, shocked me in
- 15:30Speaker 3: a way that I had never been shocked before. Again,
- 15:34Speaker 3: I was really young when that happened, as I know
- 15:35Speaker 3: most of you were, if you were even alive back then.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Blew my mind. But then another one that I found
- 15:41Speaker 3: equally shocking in a different way is when I get
- 15:44Speaker 3: when I got older and I started doing this podcast
- 15:46Speaker 3: and I started researching the death, the attempted assassination, I
- 15:51Speaker 3: should say of Bob.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Marley that one's mind blowing.
- 15:54Speaker 3: And we got a great episode on that if you're
- 15:56Speaker 3: interested anyways, six one seven nine oh six six eight
- 16:00Speaker 3: with your answers to the question which Rockstar assassination affected
- 16:04Speaker 3: you the most? Disgraceland Pod on the Socials Disgracelandpod at
- 16:09Speaker 3: gmail dot com on the email machine. I'll be back
- 16:12Speaker 3: right after this with your answers to last week's question
- 16:14Speaker 3: the week. All right, it's that time of the week again.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I'm in the phone, but it's the one across the hall.
- 16:32Speaker 3: I'm hanging on the telephone with you guys at discos.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Let's hear from Tracy in the nine to seven zero.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Hi, this is Tracy from the nine seven zero. Mayan
- 16:42Speaker 6: Mount Rushmore guitarists are way more than four, but because
- 16:48Speaker 6: it's Mount Rushmore, they are Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Trey
- 16:57Speaker 6: Anastasio and and Samantha Fish. All Right, you may or
- 17:05Speaker 6: may not agree, but we all get to like what
- 17:08Speaker 6: we like, right, okay, Thanks by.
- 17:12Speaker 3: All right, Tracy, thank you so much for the call. Yes,
- 17:15Speaker 3: we do all get to like what we like. I
- 17:18Speaker 3: have never heard of Samantha Fish out to look her up.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Now I get a good recommendation here, which I wasn't.
- 17:23Speaker 3: I wasn't expecting. Your tastes sort of tend to lean
- 17:27Speaker 3: more toward the jam band side of the fence than
- 17:30Speaker 3: mind you. But that doesn't mean anything because your point
- 17:35Speaker 3: is a valid one. We all get to like what we.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Like, right.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Appreciate the call, Tracy. All right, let's check out this
- 17:41Speaker 3: one from Melissa in the three one Oh.
- 17:43Speaker 7: Okay, it's Melissa from the three one Oh. Again. I've
- 17:47Speaker 7: got to tell you about this amazing show that I
- 17:50Speaker 7: always remember loving. It was Guns and Roses and Tsol
- 17:55Speaker 7: at the Palace in Hollywood, and.
- 17:57Speaker 8: The Palace it's like this smallish all the time, very
- 18:03Speaker 8: historic venue. And this was in nineteen eighty seven or
- 18:07Speaker 8: eighty eight, so they were just starting to get huge and.
- 18:11Speaker 9: It was such a rock and show.
- 18:14Speaker 7: Anyway, I just thought i'd tell you that all my
- 18:17Speaker 7: friends were goths and rockers because I love it all.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Thanks for all you too, Pie, Melissa, thanks for the call.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Sounds like you're having fun out there. In the three
- 18:28Speaker 3: one Oh, I remember Duff McKagan wearing a Tsol shirt
- 18:33Speaker 3: and one of the Guns and Roses videos from their
- 18:35Speaker 3: first album, and it was a it was a signal
- 18:37Speaker 3: that they were into punk and back then, the metal
- 18:41Speaker 3: heads in the punk rockers didn't mix, didn't mix together,
- 18:43Speaker 3: not in my hometown anyways. So that was that was
- 18:46Speaker 3: very interesting. It's interesting to hear that you actually saw
- 18:48Speaker 3: Tsol play with Guns and Roses eighty seven. I wonder
- 18:51Speaker 3: who opened up that show. I wonder if it was
- 18:53Speaker 3: Guns and Roses or I wonder if it was Tsol.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Thanks to the call, Melissa, all right, let's check out
- 18:58Speaker 3: the six one two.
- 19:00Speaker 10: Hey, Jake, it's Chris call from the sixty one too.
- 19:03Speaker 10: Just got done listening to the ceb Ray Vaughan episode
- 19:05Speaker 10: and thought I'd give a.
- 19:06Speaker 9: Call and get my Mount Rushmore guitar players. I was
- 19:08Speaker 9: actually at that show at out Front Valley and call
- 19:10Speaker 9: from Minnesota, and I was fifteen years old, drinking cors
- 19:13Speaker 9: late party ball at Elpi Valley, and everybody thought it
- 19:16Speaker 9: was air Clapton's teletypal that crashed it forst So for
- 19:19Speaker 9: a little bit we thought air Crafton was dead.
- 19:21Speaker 10: Anyway, Mount Rushmore Top four, I'd had a adv King's
- 19:25Speaker 10: up there for sure. He's kind of the foundation for
- 19:27Speaker 10: everybody else. Jerry Garcia not necessarily the technically best guitar player,
- 19:32Speaker 10: but he's got the feel of the sound.
- 19:34Speaker 9: Number three would have to be Derek Trusts.
- 19:37Speaker 10: He's just still got plenty of time.
- 19:38Speaker 9: To go and I think he's already up there on
- 19:40Speaker 9: the Mount Rushmore.
- 19:41Speaker 10: And then my last was Dwayne Alman from Alman Brothers
- 19:44Speaker 10: Van Those four you could tell a kind.
- 19:46Speaker 9: Of music I'm into, but for me, those are the
- 19:48Speaker 9: Mount Rushmore guitar players.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Thanks a lot, keep doing what you do.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I appreciate it, Chris, appreciate the call out there in
- 19:54Speaker 3: the six one two. Amazing that you're at that show
- 19:57Speaker 3: and you know, the Clopton thing blows my mind. I'd
- 19:59Speaker 3: heard before. It's wild to hear it come from somebody
- 20:03Speaker 3: who was there.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Though.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Like your list too, especially the BB King and the
- 20:06Speaker 3: Jerry Garcia parts.
- 20:08Speaker 8: B B.
- 20:08Speaker 5: King.
- 20:08Speaker 2: We need an episode.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I want to do something on Lucille and how how
- 20:11Speaker 3: has guitar got that name and the fire behind it
- 20:13Speaker 3: that incident. BB was incredible, one of a kind, incredibly
- 20:18Speaker 3: incredibly influential, so influential. I think that his influence is
- 20:24Speaker 3: kind of people don't pay him enough. It's gonna sound crazy,
- 20:27Speaker 3: but I just feel like people don't pay enough attention
- 20:29Speaker 3: to BB King as a guitar player, because he became
- 20:31Speaker 3: so much more than that, and he lived forever. But
- 20:35Speaker 3: I hear you Man and Jerry as well, incredibly inventive,
- 20:38Speaker 3: incredibly inventive guitar player. All right, let's do one more
- 20:41Speaker 3: voicemail here. Let's go to the nine one seven.
- 20:45Speaker 11: Hi, Jake, This is Teya from New York City from
- 20:49Speaker 11: the nine to one seven. I'm catching up on podcast
- 20:52Speaker 11: episodes right now as I'm running my Sunday errands, and
- 20:55Speaker 11: I just caught up on the April ninth bonus episode
- 20:59Speaker 11: of The s Graceland where you asked about our podcast
- 21:04Speaker 11: routines that you also announced the huge announcement about the
- 21:08Speaker 11: s Graceland joining. Exactly right, And it's really funny because
- 21:14Speaker 11: I was washing my dishes as I was listening, and
- 21:17Speaker 11: I haven't called in yet, but this is the perfect
- 21:20Speaker 11: one because I got so excited when I heard about
- 21:23Speaker 11: your union was exactly right that I screamed no way
- 21:28Speaker 11: with like my rubber gloves on as I'm like scrubbing
- 21:30Speaker 11: pots and pans. And I was so happy to hear
- 21:34Speaker 11: that because this is two podcasts I love, two podcasts
- 21:39Speaker 11: I've been following for a very long time. I'm talking
- 21:41Speaker 11: about my favorite murder and just Graceland. And I've been
- 21:44Speaker 11: following Exactly Right since the inception as well, and I've
- 21:48Speaker 11: loved the growth. I love that my little podcast world,
- 21:53Speaker 11: you know, has been unifying in this way.
- 21:56Speaker 8: And I always think a podcast is.
- 21:58Speaker 11: Like having your friends in your life room, and when
- 22:01Speaker 11: you've been listening this long, you feel like the hosts
- 22:05Speaker 11: of your friends, right, So I'm happy for you. I'm
- 22:07Speaker 11: happy for Georgia and Karen, I'm happy for Exactly Right,
- 22:11Speaker 11: and I'm happy for the fans. So shout out to
- 22:13Speaker 11: just go shout out to my favorite murder, Murder Reinos,
- 22:17Speaker 11: shout out to everybody who listens to exactly Right.
- 22:19Speaker 8: Peace, guys, Taya.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Thank you so much for the call. I love that
- 22:22Speaker 3: your podcast friends are are friends and they're all hanging out.
- 22:25Speaker 3: I like the way you, I like the way you
- 22:27Speaker 3: think about it, and I like the depiction of your Sunday,
- 22:31Speaker 3: your Sunday chores and the news hitting you and you're
- 22:33Speaker 3: getting all excited, amazing. Thank you, thank you so much.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Guys.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I want to know what you're doing when you're listening
- 22:39Speaker 3: to Disgrace and let us know. Get in touch, like Taya. Here.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Taya is doing her chores on Sunday and she's catching up.
- 22:46Speaker 3: But we also have our rewinds on Sunday now to
- 22:48Speaker 3: make it easy for you to binge, because we all
- 22:51Speaker 3: get time on Sunday to just listen to some podcasts.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Don't we be like Taya listen to Disgraceland on the Sabbath.
- 22:56Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Also, be like the six four six and hit me
- 22:59Speaker 3: up with the six one seven, nine oh six, six,
- 23:01Speaker 3: six three eight sixty four six says hey, Robert Johnson,
- 23:04Speaker 3: Chuck Berry, BB King, Jimmy Hendricks is the goat. Those
- 23:08Speaker 3: are the four folks on the six four six?
- 23:10Speaker 2: Is mount rushmore?
- 23:11Speaker 3: Hard to argue with that list? Talk about inventiveness between
- 23:14Speaker 3: Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, BB King and Jimmy Hendrix. That's uh,
- 23:18Speaker 3: that's pretty incredible. Two seven six texts in Hey, Johnny
- 23:22Speaker 3: thunder Is, Mick Ronson, Malcolm Young, Rick Agnew and Ivy Rorshack.
- 23:27Speaker 3: That's five, man, you broke the rules.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I like the Ivy one though, I really do. I'm
- 23:34Speaker 2: wanna talk about that more in a minute. Want to
- 23:35Speaker 2: give you my list.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Seven two four texts Hey, Jake got a chance to
- 23:39Speaker 3: catch up on episode Surprise. He didn't put Big Lurch
- 23:41Speaker 3: cannibalizing his girlfriend in that list because it's one of
- 23:44Speaker 3: the stuck with me after listening to your episodes, and
- 23:46Speaker 3: the one I still think about when someone mentions true
- 23:49Speaker 3: crime as for my Gone Too Soon Mount Rushmore or
- 23:52Speaker 3: Lane Staley, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Hendrix, John Bonham, And that's it.
- 23:56Speaker 2: That's the list.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Much love to you in yours later days. Did I
- 23:59Speaker 3: ask question two different ways? At the end of the
- 24:03Speaker 3: Steve Rayvaughan episode, did I ask who's on your Mount
- 24:07Speaker 3: Rushmore of guitar players? And in the after party, did
- 24:11Speaker 3: I ask about your Mount Rushmore have Gone Too Soon?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Artists? I might have.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I might have because I got a couple of texts
- 24:17Speaker 3: like this, like the one from the seven two to four.
- 24:19Speaker 3: If I did that, I apologize. But shit gets crazy
- 24:21Speaker 3: around here. I can't keep track of everything. You know
- 24:24Speaker 3: what I'm saying. It's a lot going on. I got
- 24:26Speaker 3: a lot going on here. I got two cameras going
- 24:28Speaker 3: I got a recording software. It's this.
- 24:30Speaker 2: This is all all kinds of stuff.
- 24:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I'm hanging on by a thread, is what I'm saying.
- 24:34Speaker 3: My mount roushmore of four rock stars gone too soon
- 24:37Speaker 3: from the two one seven. First, I think is obvious
- 24:40Speaker 3: Kurt kobein I picture his future would have been like
- 24:43Speaker 3: a reverse Dylan, where he would have slowly transitioned into
- 24:47Speaker 3: a more folky type of musician. Second, Bradley Knowl, Third
- 24:51Speaker 3: shannonhon last me as a pada. Well, hot, damn, that's
- 24:57Speaker 3: a that's a hell of a list there, Bradley, No,
- 25:01Speaker 3: Shannon hoone me as a pada, and Kirk Kobe can't
- 25:05Speaker 3: mess with that? All right, Listen, I don't have a
- 25:07Speaker 3: mount rushmore have gone too soon artists. I probably could have.
- 25:11Speaker 3: I thought about it, but I wasn't prepared. I do
- 25:14Speaker 3: have a mount rushmore of guitar players, and I assure
- 25:18Speaker 3: you that none of you are going to like this.
- 25:20Speaker 3: No one is going to like anybody's answer here. I
- 25:24Speaker 3: can only hope that the answers from you all prompt
- 25:27Speaker 3: others to check out guitar players they may not have
- 25:31Speaker 3: listened to before, and for that reason. For that reason,
- 25:36Speaker 3: poison Ivy Rorshak is on my list of four. Now
- 25:40Speaker 3: you might be like, what the fuck, who even is that? Well,
- 25:42Speaker 3: it's a guitar player for the Cramps, and the inventiveness
- 25:46Speaker 3: not only of her guitar playing, but her production style
- 25:48Speaker 3: around guitar concerning the specific type of punk rock they
- 25:53Speaker 3: were making at the time and the limitations they had
- 25:56Speaker 3: in making it. She's incredibly, incredibly important and incredibly inventive.
- 26:03Speaker 3: And I gotta say, I'm listening to a lot of
- 26:05Speaker 3: Cramps these days, so she's just.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Top of mind. Now.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I don't know how you guys approached this list. I
- 26:12Speaker 3: could have kept on that thread of going, well, I'm
- 26:16Speaker 3: listening to a lot of you know, sonic youth right now,
- 26:20Speaker 3: which I am, so I'm gonna Putlee Ronaldo on the
- 26:23Speaker 3: list and why not or go even further Glenn Bronca
- 26:26Speaker 3: who you know, the Thirst and more. I mean, these
- 26:28Speaker 3: guys did incredible things in the advancement of guitar playing
- 26:32Speaker 3: in rock and roll. But I'm not gonna do that.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I'm not gonna stay with the current. Aside from my
- 26:37Speaker 3: listening of Poison Ivy right now in the Cramps, I'm
- 26:40Speaker 3: gonna throw it back in the opposite direction of the
- 26:43Speaker 3: first guitar player that truly truly possessed me. And I
- 26:49Speaker 3: don't use that word flippantly.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I have a six.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Foot poster of the man right there on my door,
- 26:59Speaker 3: and that is miss Angus Young from ac DC. Now,
- 27:02Speaker 3: I know Malcolm was the brains, his brother was the
- 27:05Speaker 3: brains behind the guitar playing in ac DC. But as
- 27:09Speaker 3: a twelve year old obsessed with the hardest rock and roll,
- 27:15Speaker 3: I could find the most energetic music I could find
- 27:18Speaker 3: to fuel all the testosterone I had coursing through me.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Angus Young possessed me. And it wasn't just his mad
- 27:28Speaker 3: looks and his schoolboy uniform and the constant ball of energy.
- 27:32Speaker 3: It was actually the playing. It was the solo wing
- 27:36Speaker 3: was just incredible. And it wasn't like it was technical
- 27:39Speaker 3: in any way.
- 27:39Speaker 11: I know that.
- 27:40Speaker 2: I know the slow down, slowed down you.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Who recommended Steve Ie and then took him off your
- 27:44Speaker 3: list in the four h six listen. I know Angus Young.
- 27:47Speaker 3: I know he was not a technically astute guitar player.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I know he's basically just injecting steroids into what Chuck
- 27:55Speaker 3: Berry was doing. But that energy and that of pro coach,
- 28:00Speaker 3: it did something to me. It grabbed me, and it
- 28:03Speaker 3: shook me. It helped me by the throat and I
- 28:06Speaker 3: couldn't listen to I didn't care about it. I mean,
- 28:09Speaker 3: I cared about Eddie van Haleen. But look, man, you
- 28:11Speaker 3: weren't going to convince me that Eddie Eddie van Hallen
- 28:13Speaker 3: was better than than Angus Young.
- 28:15Speaker 2: You just weren't.
- 28:16Speaker 3: And I loved Eddie van Hallen and Eddie van Haleen
- 28:19Speaker 3: is number three on my list. So that's poison ivy
- 28:25Speaker 3: Angus Young and Eddie van Halen. And I know there's
- 28:30Speaker 3: some of you out there who I just lost all
- 28:31Speaker 3: kinds of credibility with, but I you know, this is
- 28:34Speaker 3: this is today, this is today, this is I'm recording
- 28:37Speaker 3: this on May thirteenth, twenty twenty six, and I have
- 28:39Speaker 3: different criteria for different selections. The last slot goes to
- 28:45Speaker 3: someone said it earlier, the goat, and that is Jimmy Hendrix.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Nobody did what Jimmy Hendrix did with the guitar before
- 28:53Speaker 3: Jimmy Hendrix. And I know some of you think that
- 28:55Speaker 3: are subject that this last episode of Disgrace and STEVEE.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Rayvaughan is actually better than Amy Hendricks. I know you
- 29:00Speaker 3: prefer his playing to Jimmy Hendricks. But all I can
- 29:02Speaker 3: tell you is when I hear Steve Rayvon play. Yes,
- 29:04Speaker 3: I am blown away, absolutely, and I watched the clips
- 29:09Speaker 3: and I'm just I'm so lucky that I got to
- 29:12Speaker 3: live at the same time that this guy was making music.
- 29:16Speaker 3: And yeah, I never saw him like some of you did,
- 29:18Speaker 3: but I understand how important Steve Rayvon is. At the
- 29:22Speaker 3: same time, Stevie Rayvon gets so much of what he
- 29:25Speaker 3: did from Jimmy Hendricks, Poison Ivy, not so much, Angus
- 29:31Speaker 3: Young indirectly, indirectly, okay, and Eddie van Halen, like Hendricks,
- 29:38Speaker 3: took everything to a whole new place, a whole new place.
- 29:42Speaker 3: If you want to argue that Eddie Van Halen is
- 29:44Speaker 3: better than Jimmy Hendrix, I will at least listen to you.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I don't know that i'll agree with you, But when
- 29:50Speaker 3: I hear Eddie Van Halen play, I'm like when I
- 29:52Speaker 3: hear Stevie Rayvon play, I hear more fucking Martians in
- 29:57Speaker 3: his playing than I do any other guitar player. Okay,
- 30:00Speaker 3: I guess that's what I'm saying. So that's my incredibly
- 30:03Speaker 3: dumb list. It's Poison Ivy, Angus Young, Eddie Van Hallen,
- 30:06Speaker 3: and Jimmy Hendrix. You can fight me if you want
- 30:08Speaker 3: to call six one seven nine six six six three
- 30:11Speaker 3: eight happy to talk to y'all. I just want to
- 30:14Speaker 3: read the four h six text here because I alluded
- 30:15Speaker 3: to it. Oh yeah, Montana, Mike here, great series. I
- 30:18Speaker 3: lean towards thrash metal. So in this order, James Hetfield, Buckethead,
- 30:22Speaker 3: Joe Satriani, Steve I four, omit vi. Oh that's five,
- 30:26Speaker 3: he's got fives. Yeah, you can have Steve V and
- 30:29Speaker 3: Joe Satrianti on the same list. Wasn't Joe Satriani Steve
- 30:33Speaker 3: I's guitar teacher?
- 30:34Speaker 2: So I think you gotta go with Satrianni in.
- 30:36Speaker 3: This one, all right. Anyways, I'll be back right after
- 30:39Speaker 3: this with a very important update.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Don't go on.
- 30:53Speaker 3: All right, So, for those of you who missed out

- 33:08Speaker 3: Subject King Vaughn Raps first serial Killer, Hello Jake, new listener,
- 33:14Speaker 3: but big fan transplant from your my favorite Murder episode
- 33:18Speaker 3: listening to your back catalog now and I am loving it.
- 33:21Speaker 3: I'm a huge punk rock fan. My wife and I
- 33:24Speaker 3: had no effects as hot Dog in the Hallway as
- 33:26Speaker 3: our wedding song. Not huge into rap, but I wanted
- 33:31Speaker 3: to bring this artist to your attention, a Chicago rapper
- 33:33Speaker 3: named King Vaughn who allegedly killed six to ten people
- 33:36Speaker 3: and insane case of how he killed people and had
- 33:38Speaker 3: a billboard top one hundred hit going to number forty.
- 33:41Speaker 3: His death led to a retaliatory murder for higher plot
- 33:45Speaker 3: funded by a Grammy Award winning artist named Little Dirk,
- 33:48Speaker 3: whose trial is currently going on. There have been a
- 33:51Speaker 3: few YouTube documentaries. A great one to check out is
- 33:53Speaker 3: by Trap Laura Ross. But I'd love your take on
- 33:56Speaker 3: this and if I could recommend one song that gives
- 33:58Speaker 3: you a peek behind the current to this man's life,
- 34:01Speaker 3: I'd recommend Demon by King Vaughn. A huge fan.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Love what you do, Rock a rolla.
- 34:06Speaker 3: John Sales. Thank you so much for this. You know,
- 34:09Speaker 3: someone mentioned this to me years ago and I forgot
- 34:11Speaker 3: about it, and I'm going to make a note right
- 34:13Speaker 3: now so I don't forget about it because I absolutely
- 34:16Speaker 3: want to cover this story. Welcome John, new listener. Appreciate
- 34:19Speaker 3: you and appreciate you contributing here with this recommendation. All right,
- 34:23Speaker 3: Paris Hilton and the Bling Ring are happening over in
- 34:25Speaker 3: the Hollywood Land. Feed this week, Zeth and I in
- 34:27Speaker 3: the Rap Party are recommending music in movies that are
- 34:31Speaker 3: heist based, obviously because of this whole bling ring saga.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Matt give him a little clip of our conversation, and guys,
- 34:37Speaker 3: if you're not subscribed to Hollywood Land, make sure you are.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Here's what you're missing.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I went back to my youth here, and I try
- 34:44Speaker 3: to do this as subjectively as possible, rather than sort
- 34:47Speaker 3: of objectively as like a music historian or an academic.
- 34:50Speaker 2: And I went back to.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Nineteen eighty eight, eighty nine when I first heard the
- 34:57Speaker 3: self titled debut by Glenn Danzig, the album Danzig, and
- 35:03Speaker 3: there's this song on that album called the Hunter and
- 35:08Speaker 3: has this lyric they call me the Hunter. That's my name,
- 35:11Speaker 3: pretty young thing like you, It's my only game. And
- 35:15Speaker 3: the melody here for the song immediately struck me as
- 35:19Speaker 3: as a young kid. Now, a young kid, not some
- 35:22Speaker 3: dude who's like steeped in forty years of music history,
- 35:25Speaker 3: like a fourteen fifteen, sixteen year old. However I was
- 35:28Speaker 3: when I first heard it, yeah, and going like, wait
- 35:31Speaker 3: a minute, I know this song?
- 35:33Speaker 2: What is this song?
- 35:34Speaker 3: And I look to the Danzig liner notes and it's
- 35:37Speaker 3: written by Glenn Danzig, and I'm like, this is not
- 35:40Speaker 3: written by Glenn Danzig.
- 35:42Speaker 2: What is this song?
- 35:44Speaker 3: And turns out it's how many more times by led Zeppelin,
- 35:50Speaker 3: you know.
- 35:50Speaker 5: Doom Doom Doom, Doom, Doom Doom Doom do how many moltimes?
- 35:54Speaker 3: And then it breaks down, Yeah, exactly, and then Robert
- 35:57Speaker 3: Plant goes into that vocal riff. But it's hard to
- 36:00Speaker 3: be the haunt, you know, no shit, And Danzig lifted
- 36:04Speaker 3: the exact almost the exact same thing. Well, Robin Plant
- 36:07Speaker 3: probably lifted it from some old bluesman. Well, hold on,
- 36:11Speaker 3: it gets better. So I'm like, oh, damn, they stole
- 36:16Speaker 3: this from he stole this from led Zeppelin, and he
- 36:18Speaker 3: didn't didn't credit them. What balls? So then, like I
- 36:24Speaker 3: don't know, ten years later or whatever, you know, I'm
- 36:28Speaker 3: a little more curious, I'm a little more well read.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Of course, now, of course, we could talk for days
