Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #330 - Supreme Court Rejects Trump's Citizenship Ban—The Christian Dilemma on Immigration
Transcript
- 0:00The birthright citizenship ruling just was handed down by SCOTUS.
- 0:05They decided that anchor babies are here to stay.
- 0:09We're going to take a look at this from the perspective of a Christian.
- 0:12Should Christians be for deportations?
- 0:16Should Christians be against anchor babies?
- 0:20Well, really, it's now it's the law of the land. So there's really no going back.
- 0:25I come from a perspective where I naturally, my inclination goes is not always
- 0:31necessarily the best way to go. And I think that's as any Christian,
- 0:35we need to align ourself or realign ourselves with scripture.
- 0:39We have to have scripture backing up our mindset, our actions, everything like that.
- 0:45But we're going to bounce in and out of a couple of different things.
- 0:47We're going to look at a New York Times article, and we're also going to look
- 0:50at, To start it off, kick it off with Nick Fuentes.
- 0:54He just put out a post.
- 0:56A Trump-appointed justice single-handedly upheld birthright citizenship.
- 1:01No mass deportations, no border wall, no termination of birth citizenship.
- 1:06If Republicans can't or won't do anything about immigration, then why vote for them?
- 1:11Nick Fuentes is certainly the extreme version of this.
- 1:15And I mean, my natural tendency is, hey, I want them out as well. I was here.
- 1:22You know, this is my land. And it is. As Americans, it is our land.
- 1:26And I don't think that we necessarily have to like be split personality people
- 1:30that like, well, the Bible says this, but I also love my country. And.
- 1:36We're only passing through. We're going to be in heaven eventually. This is only temporal.
- 1:40I think we can do both things at the same time. I think that we can love our
- 1:45land, support the country that we're from. If you're born in Germany,
- 1:48yo, support Germany. That's great.
- 1:51I'm American. I'm assuming a lot of you that are listening to this are American
- 1:55as well. So it's great to support our land.
- 1:57And I think that is biblical, but we're going to dive into what I think the Bible says.
- 2:02Before actually looking into it, it might not necessarily be what the Bible
- 2:05says. So we're going to look at that as well.
- 2:08But it was handed down. First of all, this New York Times article speaks about
- 2:12this, the latest that was just handed down to us.
- 2:16The Supreme Court rejected President Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship,
- 2:22and the justices reaffirmed the long-held principle that nearly all children
- 2:26who are born on U.S. soil are American citizens.
- 2:29Mr. Trump's executive order had aimed to prevent babies born to undocumented
- 2:34immigrants and temporary foreign residents from automatically becoming Americans.
- 2:39Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority,
- 2:42explained that Mr. Trump's executive order violated the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
- 2:49And this is in quotes, citizenship then and now was the right to have rights
- 2:53to freely participate in our political community.
- 2:56Chief Justice Roberts wrote, the framers of the 14th Amendment extended that
- 3:00promise to every freeborn person in this land.
- 3:04So it was a six to three decision that decided on, it just upheld the law that
- 3:09was in existence and overruled what President Trump was one done,
- 3:14which I my natural thing is they're not here legally but then it's kind of like you're also like,
- 3:19well they they got across the line they're they they snuck in and they had a
- 3:23baby real quick and now it's like that baby's here to stay I mean that's a legitimate
- 3:27heir of our our nation you know so I go back and forth I go back and forth but it's like what I want
- 3:33you know viscerally is not always
- 3:35the best thing you know I think you can agree with that in a lot of ways,
- 3:39because I've struggle with this, like lately, just in taking a step back and
- 3:43not even just talking about deportation
- 3:45or people born anchor babies or anything like that, but just...
- 3:50Venting, you know, my frustrations, you know, it's, it's, you just want to get
- 3:54out what, what's it, what's going on in here or up here, however you see it.
- 3:59And you just want to get it out there. But sometimes that isn't always the Christian thing to do.
- 4:03Sometimes it is to exercise restraint, not voice everything that's going on
- 4:09up in your, your noggin, you know, because at least for me, you know,
- 4:14cause some, cause sometimes when I let it all like,
- 4:16hang out and I let it all come out there there,
- 4:20is not like something that restrains or pulls it back and i just get myself
- 4:23in a whole heap of trouble and say things that really aren't the best things
- 4:28that i should have said i guess it's that taming the tongue i i'm just so like
- 4:32we're at the core where i just,
- 4:34i want to be real as real as possibly can be that i want to say what i mean
- 4:39say what i think be a stream of consciousness that it just comes out pours out
- 4:44and if i'm holding anything back then i'm being inauthentic,
- 4:47being ungenuine or whatever, you know, that's how I come at it.
- 4:50Like, that's how my feeling is.
- 4:53But so this is a good test. This is a good real like because in my like American,
- 4:58you know, my red, white and blue, I bleed America and we're coming up on the 4th of July.
- 5:04I love this nation. But this is my land, you know, and it can't be anyone else's.
- 5:10So I go at it from both sides.
- 5:13My immediate reaction is no, they shouldn't be here. They were here illegally.
- 5:16They did a loophole. They got across the border and they had a baby real quick.
- 5:20And now that baby is a part of this land. And, you know, it's like,
- 5:22because it is like a magnet, but then America can be great.
- 5:26Before we even get into the Bible, America can be great. We can be gracious.
- 5:29We can say, you know, we are a land of immigrants. You know,
- 5:33we have a, we have wide open spaces.
- 5:36We're a big land. We can, we can hold a lot of people. And it's just,
- 5:40I think the thing that the biggest thing is those people that are here,
- 5:44if they will grow up to love our country, be thankful for our country,
- 5:49care about our values and not just want to.
- 5:51And I guess that is like, if they're a baby, that all they're going to know
- 5:54is America, as opposed to the country you came from.
- 5:58If they don't just start like loving the country that they fled,
- 6:01you know, like maybe the parents would that they, but I mean,
- 6:04if you're escaping from something, you got over here, you want it so bad,
- 6:08like try to maybe what, what makes America great.
- 6:11Kind of keep that mindset, that idea.
- 6:14I think there is the difference between just, you know, the natural person,
- 6:17the regular person because i'm speaking it from like a regular normal american
- 6:22person you know but i'm also a christian like i i bet a lot of you are as well,
- 6:28that it's like it does feel weird when we're like saying we need borders you
- 6:32know build that wall get them out of here deport deport and that's that is that
- 6:37nick fuentes mindset and i i.
- 6:40That that tugs at my heartstring because yeah get them out get them out this
- 6:45is arlen i want you know i want everybody to be you know my color i want everybody to look like me,
- 6:50but that's not that's not reasonable or rational it's not real it's not i think
- 6:55we can be a nation of immigrants we can be different colors i think is if something
- 7:01unites us i mean that kind of oh that's boring that's something you know that that's just
- 7:05just just stupid just fancy pie in the sky oh you just want to link arms with everybody,
- 7:10i think we can do that kind of and still uphold like,
- 7:14american real values what has made our country great all right
- 7:18i'm gonna get off that i'm gonna get off that we're gonna switch over to from
- 7:22a biblical perspective from a biblical perspective a christian coming out of
- 7:27this should they support this or should they.
- 7:31Do you have to be on one side of the fence, you know, pun intended,
- 7:35or do we need to love the foreigner, welcome the foreigner, you know,
- 7:39give them everything, you know, put them up in a nice hotel,
- 7:42or is it, we got to build the wall, build the wall.
- 7:44You know, even in Israel, they built, they built the wall around Jerusalem.
- 7:48That was the first thing they did when they came back from exile.
- 7:51All right, but first of all, this is from Leviticus 19, 33 through 34. This is God talking.
- 7:57When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.
- 8:02You shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
- 8:06So that's God talking to the nation of Israel, the people of Israel,
- 8:10and they just got rescued out of Egypt.
- 8:12And he's saying, just as you were sojourners, foreigners, illegal aliens,
- 8:16or aliens, I guess they weren't illegal.
- 8:18They went down there. They snuck in, you know, And then they started having
- 8:21babies in Egypt, you know? And then they got, they went big and they went big.
- 8:25And then Egypt said, get out. We're tired of you.
- 8:27Actually, Egypt wanted to keep them for a while, didn't they?
- 8:30They wanted to keep them as slaves.
- 8:32All right, I digress. But God rescues them. He says, just like in your remembrance,
- 8:37you know, treat the foreigners that are in your land that I'm giving you,
- 8:41the land flowing of milk and honey, treat them like you would have wanted to be treated.
- 8:45This is before really a laws are enacted because there's not really a law that
- 8:49God made that, to build that wall or anything like that.
- 8:52We just glean principles because there is a sense of private property that God,
- 8:58in his, like, if we want to just analyze it from a perspective,
- 9:02an experiment, you know, like we're the American experiment.
- 9:05We have 50 states that are trying to do whatever they think is the best way of doing it.
- 9:09And each state, the picture that God gives of how a nation should be run,
- 9:15if it's his nation, it's given in the Bible through the people of Israel in
- 9:19the Old Testament, the laws, the constitution that he creates.
- 9:23So he says, he tells them that the foreigners, it's expected,
- 9:27there's going to be foreigners among you. Love them. Love them.
- 9:30This is Deuteronomy 10, 18 through 19. It says he executes justice for the fatherless
- 9:35and the widow and loves the sojourner.
- 9:38That sojourner is just like the passer through, you know, the foreigner,
- 9:42the goyim, the goyim that are among you, that find their self in your land.
- 9:47Exodus 22, 21, you shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him.
- 9:51I think this is as Christians, this is the mentality we have that it feels weird
- 9:56that we're like on the America first, you know, the Republican side,
- 10:00get them out of here, build that wall, you know? And I, I go towards that like as well.
- 10:06I feel like that, but I, I, I naturally feel like that, but I,
- 10:10and I do think there is a sense where there is, it is good to have laws. We are a nation of laws.
- 10:15So it's from both sides. I don't think it is like black or white necessarily.
- 10:20I think it can be both and.
- 10:21We can love the foreigner, but we can also understand that we are a nation that
- 10:26is functioning, you know, without going like nuts or chaos because we have laws
- 10:32that we're established on and we're built on.
- 10:34This is more, you know, there's, you know, the heart of the sojourner, that's Exodus 23, 9.
- 10:39Zechariah 7, 9 through 10, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless,
- 10:43the sojourner, or the poor. So those are like four different categories.
- 10:47These are people that are down on their luck or they've gone through a critical life-changing event.
- 10:52The widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor.
- 10:56God has a special case where his eyes are watching over them and how you treat them.
- 11:02This is in the New Testament, Matthew 25, 35. Jesus saying, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
- 11:09And then Hebrews 13, two, do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers.
- 11:14You know, that is that hospitality vibe that I think Christians have.
- 11:18If you run across, you know, someone that looks illegal, whatever that means,
- 11:22you know, don't quote me on that, but like, it looks like they're speaking a
- 11:25different language. You know, they don't seem like they got here legitimately
- 11:29or they somehow snuck in. However, they got here. It doesn't matter.
- 11:32We are to love them, even if it goes against, you know, what we see on Fox News
- 11:37or what we see on some, whatever right wing, you know, news network or whatever,
- 11:41you know, if it goes against us, like, I think a lot of it is we are,
- 11:45we are fed a lot of the things that we believe.
- 11:47We don't really necessarily always think through what we, what we actually believe.
- 11:51We just get talking points from whatever news thing we're watching or hearing.
- 11:56And then we run with that, but we haven't really processed it both sides.
- 12:01You know, that's just my, my perspective.
- 12:03But now switching it up, shifting gears a little bit. This is from the government
- 12:08side that we are a nation of laws.
- 12:11Even in the new Testament, Romans 13, one through seven says,
- 12:14let every person be subject to the governing authorities.
- 12:17You know, that is, that's just the natural thing. God made it.
- 12:20So the nations, that was one of the things to set up civil courts,
- 12:25to set up governing authorities, people to be in leadership,
- 12:28to take care of the people that are underneath them. The ones that they're said to protect.
- 12:33I just think we are so jaded as Americans because we see just the scandal and
- 12:38the, like the filthy politicians that are in there because we've,
- 12:43we've built this system where they just get rich and they're there for their own interests.
- 12:47They just say one thing. It's like, they're not ever telling the truth or just
- 12:50telling what they want to say to get them elected.
- 12:53So it's like, we, we're, we don't, we don't trust anyone but god is behind this
- 12:57thing like whoever's in authority god put them there so,
- 13:01we we're supposed to obey those who are in authority so that even goes for like
- 13:05and i've said before and like which i i don't know i kind of regret i don't know.
- 13:09I was like, talking about China, I'm not going to respect the laws of China
- 13:13or respect the laws of whatever nation. I don't care.
- 13:16I'm American. I'll do whatever I want.
- 13:18But it's like, if I was in a different country, the right Christian thing to
- 13:23do would be to obey and follow their laws and customs. If a certain country
- 13:28says you can't smoke weed, don't smoke weed in that country.
- 13:31I don't think, I don't like weed in the first place. You know,
- 13:33I wish we, I, that is something I regret because I would say this,
- 13:37like I voted in a support of, you know, marijuana, because I kind of saw it
- 13:41as like the thing with alcohol and marijuana.
- 13:44They're like on the same level. So I was like, let live and let live or whatever, however that says.
- 13:48And I was like, oh, just if people want to smoke weed, go ahead and do it.
- 13:51But it's like the more that weed is coming out and it's just like you just smell
- 13:56it in the places you go and it's disgusting that I don't like it.
- 14:00I don't like it, but I know that people that do it, you can kind of,
- 14:03you get a taste for it, you get a whatever, so it smells good. I don't like it.
- 14:07And that's something I kind of regret. And maybe that's just a selfish kind of thing.
- 14:11Like I thought it was just like keeping it on that same level or whatever,
- 14:15but there are things you regret in life. And that's something I regret.
- 14:19If I could go back, I would not have voted for that because Missouri is now
- 14:22where it's like, you can do that.
- 14:24And I guess I'm not saying that people that are doing that are bad because they're
- 14:27just, they're doing what they're legally able to do. I just don't,
- 14:30I don't like it. I don't know what it is because it's like, it is different.
- 14:34I guess it is the difference between somebody that smokes and drinks,
- 14:37whatever you drink, you know, you, you kind of keep it to yourself.
- 14:41It's not wafting in front of everyone, but just in this mindset of,
- 14:44of Christianity, Christianity and bringing it home, bringing it home,
- 14:48you know, stay on topic is be submissive to rulers and authorities.
- 14:52God has put them above us that we should.
- 14:54And that goes for like people that are sneaking into our country you know like
- 14:57their ideas they're escaping something that is terrible where they're coming
- 15:01from trying to get to a safer place a better place for their for their children
- 15:05it's like you would do the same thing i would do the same thing myself
- 15:09you know we're not like before you even go to a country you don't necessarily
- 15:12know all their laws their customs that are over there you just want to get out of where you're at,
- 15:17and so recognizing their.
- 15:20Position, where they're coming from, what their mindset would be.
- 15:25But then at the same time, we are a nation of laws. And it's like if someone
- 15:29is just crossing that border, they're jumping ahead of someone else.
- 15:33Maybe they found that loophole where they can come over, have a baby real quick.
- 15:36And they, you know, they got the prize and now they're a child.
- 15:40But then it just gets so messy when you really think about it.
- 15:44It gets so messy because then it's like that child is a citizen.
- 15:48They can be here. But then the parents are, they can't be here.
- 15:51So then it's like we have to separate families and you know how that's going to go.
- 15:55And it becomes like a terrible thing.
- 15:57I am disappointed in this ruling. I don't think we should have had like as we've
- 16:01evolved and grown as a nation, like we've come to the point where if we're going
- 16:05to survive, it's not in our best interest.
- 16:08Like did the did our the SCOTUS is think about this, the ones who voted,
- 16:12you know, in favor of upholding this amendment?
- 16:15I think Trump was trying to reverse something that could be detrimental because,
- 16:20it does lean towards this is open borders policy that everywhere is there's
- 16:25there's no sovereignty in any country you know,
- 16:28and so it's gonna it's gonna destroy the fabric of america when you really think about it because like,
- 16:34the this kids that are over here it could be good and it could uplift them you
- 16:38know put them in a better trajectory a stage of life that they can go into and
- 16:42you know be in a christian nation and learn christianity learn you know.
- 16:46Freedom and in our in our civilization that may be so much better for them.
- 16:50But it's going to, in the long run, it's going to hurt them because they're
- 16:54going to be having, if we're keeping the law, their parents got to go.
- 16:59They should not be here, you know? And then, or just send them back.
- 17:02It's just like, that's the breaking up of families.
- 17:05I feel like, why am I smarter than our Supreme Court justices?
- 17:09You know, why am I thinking about this? But they haven't.
- 17:13But it's the law, that's what they decided on. It's how our American experiment has made it.
- 17:19It's just so backwards to me. It feels backwards. I want to get into this because
- 17:24this is in the Nehemiah chapters 2 through 6.
- 17:27This is where they get in the key verse. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem.
- 17:32So when God brought Israel back to the land of Israel or the Jews back to the
- 17:36land of Israel, the first thing they were doing was building a wall.
- 17:39They understood to be protected, have safety and security.
- 17:43They had to keep out people that wanted to destroy them.
- 17:46And it's not to say that everyone outside their walls wants to destroy them
- 17:49or like everyone outside of america wants to destroy us but it's like it's giving
- 17:53them the ability to just come into your yard your backyard your front yard right
- 17:57in your door are you going to let somebody just walk right into your house,
- 18:00is that going to be good for the safety of the people living there,
- 18:03or should there be a system where we vet the the right people come in and we
- 18:07allow them the right people to people to come in it's just so messed up when
- 18:11you just think about the people that are running our country.
- 18:13Like it always does seem like the Democrats just want to, the people that are
- 18:17on the left just want to destroy the American system.
- 18:23It does seem like that. You know, I don't think I'm reaching too far when I'm,
- 18:26when I'm talking about that.
- 18:28But like, so just keeping this in mind that this idea of we,
- 18:31we gotta, we gotta love the, the foreigner, the sojourner, love the people that
- 18:35are around us, you know, but still uphold our laws and it's been decided it's the way it is.
- 18:39So it's not to be, I'm frustrated and I can't function and I'm just gonna shout
- 18:44my talking points to somebody.
- 18:47You know, I, I think that we can do what we, respect the law of our nation.
- 18:52You know, it was decided. That's what they, they did. So don't complain about
- 18:56it or, or, or anything like that.
- 18:57There's no reason to complain, but if you can, if we can fight it,
- 19:01you know, and, but it's like we've, this, the Supreme court justices that are
- 19:05there are the ones that were appointed by, you know, Donald Trump.
- 19:08Like, so it's like, that was what they decided. That's what they went with.
- 19:11So it does seem kind of weird, but I've just, I think as Christians,
- 19:15we can support the deportation of people. It's not going against our values.
- 19:21Uh, we, we want the best of our nation, you know, until Jesus,
- 19:24Jesus comes back where we should pray for our nation, seek the best for it,
- 19:29be a nation of laws, follow the law, keep the law and, but love the people that
- 19:33are maybe breaking the law.
- 19:35Still love them, but you know, it's just bring that, you know.
- 19:39Maybe it's what you're doing is not the best way to do it.
- 19:41Uphold the law, you know, send them out if we can.
- 19:44They have a baby here. That baby's here to stay. They're American. We love them. Whatever.
- 19:49That's the way it is. That's the way it was decided. All right.
- 19:52Well, let me know what you all think about this from the Christian perspective,
- 19:55even somebody that's not, if you see kind of a,
- 19:59mental gymnastics that Christians have to play, because that's what's painted
- 20:04as that Christians, you can't be somebody that's so up against and wanting people
- 20:08out of your country, but then you call yourself Christian. Is that what Jesus would do?
- 20:11I think it is nuanced I think we can love people to the fullest measure and
- 20:16extent, but then understand we are a nation of laws and to keep the law.
- 20:20That's what God put in place.
- 20:22He put the people there to make those laws and watch over us,
- 20:25keep us safe and all that stuff.
- 20:26All right, we'll leave it at that. I hope you have a great rest of your day
- 20:29and we'll see you on the next one.
