- 0:00Speaker 1: You're blowing my mind, Uber driver. It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Armstrong and Getty. One more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Before we get to that, so I mentioned a video
- 0:12Speaker 1: on the radio show right away. I'd seen this video.
- 0:16Speaker 1: It's a store of some sort. A little robot dude
- 0:20Speaker 1: comes out to help somebody. He's a droid.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Short.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Short. And for whatever reason, the customer at the store
- 0:28Speaker 1: gives the droid a little shove in the chest.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Well, he extends his hand to shake hands with the robot.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Oh, no, no.
- 0:35Speaker 3: And the robot leaves him hanging.
- 0:37Speaker 2: No, after that, he shoved him.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But that's why he shoved him, you think? I didn't
- 0:44Speaker 1: pick up on that.
- 0:44Speaker 3: That's the way I read it. Okay. Why he shoved
- 0:47Speaker 3: him is kind of incidental to the story, but don't
- 0:49Speaker 3: leave someone hanging like that. It's rude.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Wow, okay, so Joe's on the side of the robot. Somebody,
- 0:53Speaker 1: you go to shake their hand, you don't shake it.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That robot has the ability to just pull your head off.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Okay, I see.
- 0:58Speaker 3: The full martial arts ass kicker. That's what I do.
- 1:01Speaker 2: So anyway, Joe's totally right, by the way. He goes,
- 1:04Speaker 2: he extends his hand for a handshake.
- 1:07Speaker 3: The hand of friendship.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I really believe we're burying the lead here.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So....
- 1:12Speaker 1: The guy gives the droid a little shove and the
- 1:15Speaker 1: droid goes into Bruce Lee Kung Fu mode for some
- 1:19Speaker 1: reason and starts whirling its hands around and it's kicking
- 1:23Speaker 1: its leg in the air. And a bunch of other
- 1:25Speaker 1: employees run in to try to tackle the thing. And
- 1:28Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was AI or if it
- 1:29Speaker 1: was real. Katie did a little research and thinks it's real.
- 1:33Speaker 2: No, it is real. I plugged it into like three different,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I plugged it into Claude chat, GPT and grok. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: they all say it's legitimate.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But, Well, I've known plenty of people that if you, dudes,
- 1:45Speaker 1: if you gave them a little shove, they'd be ready
- 1:47Speaker 1: to go full on fight. But I think most people
- 1:49Speaker 1: would be like, hey, what's that all about? As opposed to,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm going to give you my Bruce Lee kick in
- 1:53Speaker 1: the face. So I feel like the droid overreacted. What
- 1:57Speaker 1: is going on here?
- 1:58Speaker 2: What I love is that it wasn't an immediate reaction.
- 2:02Speaker 2: The droid drops into this like, what the? Stance.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yes. Exactly.
- 2:09Speaker 2: To let everybody know they're about to get their ass kicked.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Goes into full chop-socky mode.
- 2:15Speaker 1: All right, who's ready for a robot ass-kicking, huh?
- 2:18Speaker 2: And he kicked so hard his leg got stuck on
- 2:21Speaker 2: the counter.
- 2:24Speaker 3: The great radio personality Jim Rome used to talk about
- 2:28Speaker 3: likes to fight guy. He may still, for all I know.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Evidently likes to fight guy programmed this robot because this
- 2:35Speaker 3: robot was ready to go.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Little shab-boom, let's get it on.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Ha-cha, ha-cha, hi-ya!
- 2:41Speaker 2: It's like a bad bar fight, though, because there's like
- 2:43Speaker 2: two people trying to hold the robot back, and it's like, no,
- 2:46Speaker 2: let me at him.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You're right. The robot was like, let me at him. Like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: he couldn't let go of his grudge. You're a robot.
- 2:57Speaker 3: The guy shoved him out of nowhere. First, he snubbed
- 2:59Speaker 3: him with the handshake. Then he gave him a shove.
- 3:00Speaker 3: He deserves an ass kicking.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Don't it?
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's really interesting.
- 3:06Speaker 2: This video is on loop on my computer. It's just
- 3:09Speaker 2: funnier every time you watch. It really is funny.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Did the robot afterwards say, I lost my cool. I'm sorry.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Anger management has always been a problem.
- 3:20Speaker 2: This particular poster said it wasn't a cute glitch or
- 3:22Speaker 2: a stumble. The staff literally had to grab the robot
- 3:25Speaker 2: and drag it down while it kept trying to fight.
- 3:30Speaker 2: So what in.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Its programming went into at any cost? You must fight
- 3:36Speaker 1: this guy and win.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's drag down time.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Snatch the pebble from my hand, grasshopper bot. I suspect,
- 3:44Speaker 3: and this is a guess, what the hell do I know,
- 3:46Speaker 3: but you've heard the stories of, you know, the pizza
- 3:49Speaker 3: chains or whoever tries to deploy delivery bots, and people
- 3:53Speaker 3: like hit them with bats and vandalize them and stuff
- 3:56Speaker 3: like that. And so evidently, and I suspect this was China,
- 3:59Speaker 3: the guys look Chinese, but I suspect that They programmed it.
- 4:04Speaker 3: If somebody messes with you or starts to vandalize you,
- 4:08Speaker 3: go into chop-sock mode. But I hope you leave enough
- 4:11Speaker 3: room for my fist because I'm going to ram it
- 4:13Speaker 3: into your stomach.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But here's the deal. Again, watching this, and like this
- 4:19Speaker 2: quote says, this clip was funny, now it's not. And
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's not because I'm noticing he doesn't have a direct
- 4:26Speaker 2: conflict with one person. Like, I'm saying he, like it's
- 4:30Speaker 2: a effing person. He decides to fight everyone. Yeah, I mean,
- 4:33Speaker 2: anything that comes within, I don't know, radar of this thing,
- 4:37Speaker 2: he's fighting everybody.
- 4:38Speaker 1: It'd be interesting if there had been a vacuum cleaner there.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Would he have punched the vacuum cleaner?
- 4:43Speaker 2: Only humans. But, like, two people are trying to stop
- 4:46Speaker 2: it from fighting the dude that snubbed his handshake, and
- 4:48Speaker 2: then he just starts, or it, starts going after them.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That's a good point. It turned against humanity.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Not just the dude who shoved him.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:58Speaker 1: That's a problem.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Huh?
- 5:02Speaker 1: That's why the Mandalorian would say, I hate droids.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Well, you know what's really interesting? The guy shoves it,
- 5:10Speaker 3: then it hesitates for a long moment, and his minder,
- 5:13Speaker 3: who I think runs the store, says something to the bot,
- 5:17Speaker 3: and then it goes apes.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and it goes into the, wha!
- 5:20Speaker 1: What do you suppose it said to it?
- 5:22Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Your mother's a vacuum cleaner.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Oh, jeez!
- 5:27Speaker 3: You're going to take that from your handshake? You're just
- 5:30Speaker 3: going to get shoved by our customers like that, you baby?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 3: All right. All right. I'll take off his head years too,
- 5:37Speaker 3: you bastard.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Well, I wouldn't have guessed that every robot is trained
- 5:42Speaker 1: to fight. Don't they have to be programmed to be
- 5:44Speaker 1: able to fight? Or does that just come naturally with
- 5:46Speaker 1: the robot AI package?
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah. This is the AI takeover, dude.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Clearly, it's the first volley. No, I think it was
- 5:53Speaker 3: programmed so if somebody messes with you, you go into
- 5:56Speaker 3: chop-socky mode so it won't vandalize you. That's my best guess.
- 6:00Speaker 3: We can't have that. We must have that. You don't
- 6:04Speaker 3: get to damage my property. I'm training my property to
- 6:07Speaker 3: defend itself.
- 6:08Speaker 1: We can't have robots who are like guys I've known
- 6:12Speaker 1: where if you're walking past them and you bump into them.
- 6:15Speaker 3: And say, hey!
- 6:17Speaker 2: I'm going to have robot chop-socky in my driveway.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Wow, stage fights? Yeah. I would totally hang around for that.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Hell yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I wonder if that's the future. I have one stationed
- 6:27Speaker 1: outside my front door at night.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Sure, patrolling your grounds, yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Oh, you know what? Chop Sock, he doesn't like to
- 6:36Speaker 2: be approached from behind where his little sensors are. That's
- 6:40Speaker 2: why he's hitting so much. If you watch the video,
- 6:44Speaker 2: if you come up behind him. Yeah, well, same, robots.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm the same way.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Me too, robot.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Could I have jumped into that fight? As I have,
- 7:00Speaker 1: unfortunately and dumbly, a few times in my life. I'm
- 7:02Speaker 1: on your side, robot. Let's take these guys out. Or
- 7:05Speaker 1: what is it going to fight me no matter what?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Because I'm a human.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Do we know how much robot weighs? Because that.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He's short.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Well, yeah, he's a little guy, but I mean, he's
- 7:15Speaker 2: clearly made of metal. So. Right.
- 7:18Speaker 3: It's a real advantage. Are we going to talk about
- 7:21Speaker 3: your Uber driver who taught you time management skills? No? No.
- 7:25Speaker 3: That's too bad, because I had a Lyft driver really
- 7:27Speaker 3: help me with my manscaping, so I was kind of
- 7:30Speaker 3: anxious to hear what you had to say.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'll have to get to that on a future podcast.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I feel ashamed to spend enough time talking about the
- 7:37Speaker 1: robot fight. I sent you guys a video, by the way,
- 7:41Speaker 1: of a martial arts demonstration using a robot, and it
- 7:44Speaker 1: kicks a child in the stomach.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that was troubling.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm going to spend a little time on this today.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'd actually like to know more about that. Was it,
- 7:52Speaker 1: like Joe's theory, actually trained to fight if anybody messes
- 7:57Speaker 1: with it? And is that what robots are?
- 7:59Speaker 3: I don't know if I want that. I'm going to.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Ask the world's worst AI system, Rock, if this robot
- 8:09Speaker 2: was actually trained to fight.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Were those employees that ran over to try to stop
- 8:13Speaker 1: it or just other customers? Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No, those are employees.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:17Speaker 1: If they're employees, they seem to react like they were
- 8:20Speaker 1: afraid this was going to happen. I mean, that's kind
- 8:22Speaker 1: of what it seemed like to me. Not like they
- 8:24Speaker 1: were really shocked and surprised that this thing went apex.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Well, yeah. I mean, the second the dude shoved it,
- 8:30Speaker 2: three of them came out of the back like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 8:33Speaker 2: What did you call it, Joe? Robot chop?
- 8:37Speaker 3: Chop socky, yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, chop socky. got into his fight stance, and then
- 8:41Speaker 2: all hell breaks loose.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I have a feeling in the not-too-distant future, when Elon says,
- 8:46Speaker 1: you know, 80% of Americans will have a home robot,
- 8:49Speaker 1: we're going to see lots of robot fights. Oh, yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Your battle bots is fun. Robot fights, that'd be even
- 8:55Speaker 3: more fun.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Well, there's the staged kind, yeah, but I just think,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you know, my robot gets in a fight with my
- 9:02Speaker 1: neighbor's robot over something.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Or China's 50,000 robots get in a fight with our
- 9:07Speaker 3: 50,000 robots, et cetera.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, well, if you haven't seen the video yet,
- 9:11Speaker 1: it's at armstrongandgetty.com. Judge for yourself whether the robot was
- 9:15Speaker 1: in the right or not. You go to shake a
- 9:17Speaker 1: man's hand.
- 9:19Speaker 2: So, according to Grok, this thing's name is Syma. S-Y-O-M-A.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Syma.
- 9:28Speaker 2: It's a retail tech consultant humanoid robot at a Russian
- 9:33Speaker 2: electronic store. It is not their combat model.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And somebody paid extra for the Bruce Lee mode in
- 9:39Speaker 1: case somebody gives it a shove.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The kicks after the shove look like a balance glitch. No,
- 9:45Speaker 2: that's BS. Staff shut it down. No injuries reported.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I was trying to whoop some ass. Balance glitch?
- 9:52Speaker 2: What are you watching, Croc? This is a retail tech
- 9:55Speaker 2: consultant humanoid robot at a Russian store and was not
- 9:59Speaker 2: a combatant. robot.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So that's just a somebody trying to help me at
- 10:03Speaker 1: the store who has the Chuck Norris mode deep in
- 10:06Speaker 1: its brain if it needs it. Right.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I'm going to a different store. I don't want to
- 10:15Speaker 3: get my ass kicked by your robot.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Are there any stores in this mall where I don't
- 10:20Speaker 1: have to fight a robot? I'd like to shop there.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Is there a Foot Locker nearby? I'd like to go there.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Goodbye.
- 10:29Speaker 1: You know, Sears never had killer robots.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I'm just saying. Good craftsman tools.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
