- 1:43Speaker 1: The zero two everybody knows blacked out ZR two pop
- 1:46Speaker 1: popped in the around Nashville.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Popped in the parking lot today and I thought to myself,
- 1:50Speaker 4: interesting park job, parking on the edge.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But also it's a beautiful traft.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I know, I.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Get some icy situations in the in the uh in
- 2:00Speaker 1: the driveway sometimes you'll park a little too close to
- 2:02Speaker 1: my back end, so I'm like Austin powersing in and
- 2:04Speaker 1: out until I get out of there. So now I'm thinking,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm just gonna park on the edge so I can
- 2:08Speaker 1: just get out whenever.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Luckily you have eight camera with fourteen different angles. Yeah,

- 3:46Speaker 1: us out. We're gonna be talking some NFL football. Well mate,
- 3:50Speaker 1: we won't preview a whole lot of the collegewall playoff
- 3:52Speaker 1: because you can get that on the Locker Room that
- 3:54Speaker 1: comes out Wednesdays now, Wednesday night at what six pm?
- 3:58Speaker 4: Is it six pm? And there's a fun little calling.
- 4:01Speaker 4: You want to tell me about the.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Call in the fan calling? Yeah, yeah, brain almost died
- 4:08Speaker 1: there first. Okay, that's why we're here. That's why there's
- 4:10Speaker 1: two people in the bus fan calling. Parlay segment for
- 4:12Speaker 1: the Locker Room. If you have a parlay for the
- 4:14Speaker 1: weekend could be college, could be NFL, could be players,
- 4:16Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. Just know, take yourself a little selfie video,
- 4:20Speaker 1: give us your best parlay of the weekend and send
- 4:22Speaker 1: it to info at bustinwtv dot com for a chance
- 4:26Speaker 1: to be featured on the show Where do we Start?
- 4:29Speaker 1: I think? Where do we start?
- 4:31Speaker 4: Do you want to talk about what we're doing this weekend?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah? That was a That was an awesome message to get. Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Who'd you get that message from?
- 4:39Speaker 1: The boys? Oh? Yeah, the tribe? Yeah, the try The
- 4:42Speaker 1: tribe said hey, we want you to come out and go.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Does say, hey we got you for the sideline passes?
- 4:46Speaker 4: Wow? Four of them?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yes, four time.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Yeah, we're popping in and we're popping out. That's what
- 4:52Speaker 4: we gotta do. So what we and what myself and
- 4:54Speaker 4: Will are alluding to, twelve team playoff, first year this
- 4:58Speaker 4: has ever happened in the history. Now there's a team
- 5:01Speaker 4: a little bit up north in Indiana, South Bend, Indiana
- 5:04Speaker 4: that is Notre Dame Sherman hates them. They are playing Indiana,
- 5:09Speaker 4: a team that has just picked and plugged guys from
- 5:12Speaker 4: the transfer portal and have gone an absolute run in
- 5:14Speaker 4: the Big ten. And we're gonna find out if they
- 5:16Speaker 4: are for real or they frauds. Sherm our friend in
- 5:18Speaker 4: the back there is already saying Notre Dame is fraud.
- 5:20Speaker 4: So he's basically saying this is a game between a
- 5:22Speaker 4: couple of frauds going to the playoffs. The boys will
- 5:25Speaker 4: be in South Bend, Indiana watching the historic Notre Dame
- 5:28Speaker 4: fighting Irish take on the Indiana Hoosiers on the sideline.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Vogg will be coming out the following week.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It is going to be.
- 5:33Speaker 4: An electric time.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Surem you think both of these teams are frauds.
- 5:37Speaker 4: He's always said, he said since we've met him, that
- 5:40Speaker 4: Notre Dame is a fraud school.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Throughout the season, you'd almost assume, like, I.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Think Indiana has benefited off of their schedule. I think
- 5:47Speaker 5: they are more of a realistic competitor in the playoff
- 5:51Speaker 5: than Notre Dame. Notre Dame has yet to win a
- 5:53Speaker 5: BCS Bowl, New Year Six, Bawl, or CFP game. This is,
- 5:59Speaker 5: without a doubt, this is their last chance. If you
- 6:01Speaker 5: can't get a playoff win against Indiana, you're a fraud
- 6:06Speaker 5: for life. You're a fraud forever. If it's crazy that
- 6:09Speaker 5: they keep on getting the invite with their easy schedule.
- 6:13Speaker 5: They be A and M cool. So did how many
- 6:16Speaker 5: other teams? South Carolina beat A and N Texas Texas?
- 6:21Speaker 4: They're in the playoff LSU. Here's a question for everybody
- 6:25Speaker 4: on the bus is when if you see a brand
- 6:27Speaker 4: like Indiana, you think you don't think to yourself football powerhouse.
- 6:30Speaker 4: But they're in the twelve team playoff. They had a
- 6:32Speaker 4: hell of a year this year. How many years would
- 6:34Speaker 4: they have to have of making it to the playoff
- 6:36Speaker 4: and being a dominant program in the Big Ten to
- 6:39Speaker 4: be looked at as like a like a football brand
- 6:42Speaker 4: worthy note, like a noteworthy type brand. How how many
- 6:45Speaker 4: years do you think will?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree you were holding up too, weren't you. JP. Yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 1: they make a what you're talking about if they make
- 6:52Speaker 1: a run in the playoffs this year and then they
- 6:53Speaker 1: come out hot next year, I mean, that's a it's
- 6:55Speaker 1: a that's a respect you're saying, that is a football
- 6:58Speaker 1: branded score in this college football playoff era. Yes, Now,
- 7:03Speaker 1: as far as like the blue bloods of the world,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I mean that takes that takes time.
- 7:06Speaker 4: It takes time, It takes decades.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, But in the current they make a run in
- 7:10Speaker 1: this college will playoff and the next year again they
- 7:13Speaker 1: start off out. What was their season record? Eleven and one?
- 7:16Speaker 1: They're a team to be in a run?
- 7:18Speaker 4: To you? Is they beating Notre Dame?
- 7:19Speaker 1: They beating their dame?
- 7:20Speaker 4: They still out against Who would they play next? Who
- 7:23Speaker 4: knows who they play next? But they think, oh my gosh,
- 7:27Speaker 4: yeah yeah, Georgia.
- 7:30Speaker 1: No, it's not Georgia. Georgia is on the Uh that
- 7:36Speaker 1: Tennessee State, Arizona State, Texas or uh, look at us,
- 7:42Speaker 1: look at us, look at.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Us football podcast. Here we are who they play? S
- 7:50Speaker 4: m U and Penn State go against each other, and
- 7:52Speaker 4: then the winner of that would play. If Indiana beaten
- 7:54Speaker 4: U a Dame, they played boys, it's Georgia.
- 7:57Speaker 5: So it's Georgia.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Okay, So we could probably say that they're gonna stall out.
- 8:02Speaker 4: But does that count as a run for you? Like
- 8:04Speaker 4: they beat Notre Dame boom? Is that a run?
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think it depends on how they played Georgia. If
- 8:10Speaker 1: they played they played Georgia tough. I mean it's look,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you you want to go and see what's up with
- 8:15Speaker 1: Indiana and signetty if you're recruit why not? Yeah?
- 8:18Speaker 4: Okay, they'll beat Notre Dame. They'll beat Notre Dame. With
- 8:21Speaker 4: you more news, I don't know.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Hey, how'd you how'd Army do over the weekend? Remember
- 8:26Speaker 1: when you were calling.
- 8:26Speaker 4: For communist will? He added again, they go before they
- 8:31Speaker 4: play Notre Dame.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Get smacked.
- 8:32Speaker 5: That Navy quarterback had a great game, a great game.
- 8:35Speaker 1: That's the where you got to throw it all out
- 8:37Speaker 1: the window. That's that's Army Navy.
- 8:38Speaker 5: That's Army Navy.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Why records go out the window? We saw it with
- 8:42Speaker 4: All State Michigan.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Record breaking performance by that Navy quarterback.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It was crazy. Yeah, I just thought it was interesting.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Let me gets their ass beat.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go over the little quick prediction, Just a
- 8:53Speaker 4: quick fast prediction. Will hit me down with those lines
- 8:55Speaker 4: right there, Oh State Tennessee, your first art.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I kind of want to save it for the locker room.
- 9:00Speaker 4: That's a good point.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I kind of want to see it right at any research.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I'm up in the air on on Ohio State Tennessee
- 9:06Speaker 1: right now, Okay, I'll take tennis.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Be told.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm up in the air. I think Ohio State is
- 9:10Speaker 1: in a great spot to just win the whole damn
- 9:13Speaker 1: thing since they've lost to since they've had the season
- 9:15Speaker 1: that they've had and losing the Michigan.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I think they're broken. I think they're broken very well,
- 9:20Speaker 4: be by three scores. Here's here's one boiler alert for
- 9:24Speaker 4: the locker room. I'm not going to waiver on this,
- 9:26Speaker 4: even if everything I look at tells me differently. I
- 9:28Speaker 4: am going to pick Tennessee. I'm gonna take Tennessee money line.
- 9:30Speaker 4: And I fully expect Tennessee to plant their flag in
- 9:33Speaker 4: the middle of Columbus, Ohio before it becomes a felony.
- 9:36Speaker 4: That's what that's That's what I say. They're gonna get
- 9:38Speaker 4: one last one in.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Just send some fans of Columbus Ohio while this game
- 9:41Speaker 1: is going on, if they win, just get out in
- 9:44Speaker 1: the stadium and plant the flag.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Plant the flag immediately. And if you're a volunteer, if
- 9:47Speaker 4: you're putting on the orange, you got to think to yourself,
- 9:50Speaker 4: we're gonna win this game. We got to plant that flag.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Now, years past, we're talking about pro big ten, pro
- 9:55Speaker 1: sec Yeah, you're in a spot for the right and
- 9:58Speaker 1: I know and in the past we've called four Ohio
- 10:00Speaker 1: state fans rooted for Michigan.
- 10:02Speaker 4: We have called for that and at that time it
- 10:04Speaker 4: made so much sense to me. At the time when
- 10:06Speaker 4: we were talking about people rooting for Michigan, it made
- 10:09Speaker 4: sense to me what transpired between Michigan Ohio state. The
- 10:13Speaker 4: way Ohio state, the state of Ohio has really just folded,
- 10:17Speaker 4: has literally crumbled in front of our eyes. A foundation
- 10:20Speaker 4: of that state has become so little that a Congressman
- 10:22Speaker 4: is trying to push forward a bill to where planting
- 10:25Speaker 4: a flag on the fifty yard line should be a felony.
- 10:29Speaker 4: You've lost me. You've not only lost me. I know
- 10:31Speaker 4: there's people in Ohio that watch this show that are
- 10:33Speaker 4: hard working, blue collar individuals that just get Patriock to
- 10:36Speaker 4: Patrick and save up the money they have so that
- 10:39Speaker 4: they can go wash the scarlet and gran on a Saturday.
- 10:42Speaker 4: And I feel bad for those people that they're in
- 10:43Speaker 4: the position they were. The state's broken because of that.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Tennessee is going to win big.
- 10:50Speaker 7: Even if I'm Tennessee money line all the way. But
- 10:52Speaker 7: I love plus seven and a half for the walls.
- 10:54Speaker 7: I think that's a really good bet.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah, anybody I'm going to do better.
- 10:58Speaker 7: DraftKings get on there. Plus seven and a half basically
- 11:01Speaker 7: lock so.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Illus DraftKings switches it up on you. Yeah, and I
- 11:07Speaker 1: had a nine leger hit. Oh, I thought hit last night.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I hit eight legs out of the nine. All I
- 11:13Speaker 1: needed left was Josh Jacobs to get sixty plus yards,
- 11:15Speaker 1: which I think he might have gotten the first half.
- 11:18Speaker 1: But I go back after I know Josh Jacobs had
- 11:20Speaker 1: gotten sixty plus. I go back in the app and
- 11:22Speaker 1: look at my settled bets. Apparently they went back on
- 11:25Speaker 1: a stat correction and uh Khalil didn't get forty plus
- 11:30Speaker 1: yards receiving he got thirty nine.
- 11:33Speaker 4: It's a tough look for DraftKings.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, look, I get it because ultimately I'm betting on
- 11:38Speaker 1: him that forty plus. If he didn't have forty plus
- 11:40Speaker 1: and he had thirty nine, ultimately I lose the bet. However,
- 11:43Speaker 1: what I'm curious about is if before this nine leger happens,
- 11:48Speaker 1: this last leg in my cash it was one hundred
- 11:50Speaker 1: dollars bet to win, like twenty six hundred, very conservative
- 11:53Speaker 1: nine leg parlay. Well, usually if you put nine legs together,
- 11:57Speaker 1: you're thinking like plus ten thousand or something some for you,
- 12:00Speaker 1: something nuts. But what I'm curious about is say I
- 12:05Speaker 1: cash out on this hundred dollar bet when it was
- 12:07Speaker 1: at like seventeen hundred is what the cash out was.
- 12:10Speaker 1: If I cash out and then they go in and
- 12:12Speaker 1: correct the stat, do they take that money back out
- 12:15Speaker 1: of my account? That's what I'm curious about. It's wondering
- 12:18Speaker 1: because I was pit. I was like tight, I was like,
- 12:19Speaker 1: what the fuck? And maybe want to go back and
- 12:21Speaker 1: watch every play of the Bills Lions game just to
- 12:24Speaker 1: see if he actually it fills thirty nine yards. I'm
- 12:26Speaker 1: assuming they're correct on that thirty nine yards, so ultimately
- 12:28Speaker 1: I would win. It's just I saw myself winning and
- 12:31Speaker 1: then I felt like I won, and then I go
- 12:33Speaker 1: back in the app and that that that money's gone.
- 12:35Speaker 1: One hundred dollars is gone, I.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Think at the very least, And I'm not gonna tell
- 12:39Speaker 4: DraftKings was due. That's a great institution. We love that
- 12:41Speaker 4: they're part of the show. Maybe just give you a
- 12:43Speaker 4: hundred dollars back one hundred and one dollars.
- 12:45Speaker 1: But if you if you're in defense of DraftKings, like
- 12:49Speaker 1: if he only got thirty nine yards for real, you
- 12:52Speaker 1: lost the bat. They messed up on the stat correction.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I did lose the bet. You're big, You're a big man. Yeah,
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's beautiful. I've been obviously thought about this a lot.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Yeah, because some people want to work through right now.
- 13:03Speaker 1: With DraftKings, but then it's like, well, if you only
- 13:04Speaker 1: got three nine yards, then ultimately I was I lost.
- 13:07Speaker 4: And also drafting has been really good to us too.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was curious, I am I has anybody
- 13:12Speaker 1: went through that, anybody had like a parlay that they
- 13:15Speaker 1: might cash out on before you're here.
- 13:16Speaker 4: You're one of like six people in the world that
- 13:18Speaker 4: have hit been close to a nine leg parlay. You're
- 13:21Speaker 4: one of the people who have been close to a
- 13:22Speaker 4: five leg parlay?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Or was anybody want a singular bet that they was
- 13:26Speaker 1: corrected on and then they go back? I would assume
- 13:29Speaker 1: they would just take it out of your account, right.
- 13:32Speaker 4: God, did you imagine get that email like you just
- 13:35Speaker 4: hit big on something, you're telling all your boys about it.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Then all of a sudden, DraftKings pops up or any
- 13:39Speaker 4: betting website pops up like hey, by the way, had
- 13:41Speaker 4: a bit of a whoopsie daisies here.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yeah, So I would have you know, the majority of
- 13:45Speaker 1: people don't like take the money out of the account,
- 13:47Speaker 1: Like the a't even bigger, go down another warm rabbit hole.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Say I only had one hundred dollars, I've bet it
- 13:52Speaker 1: on that nine like parlay, I cash out before the
- 13:55Speaker 1: ninth leg, seventeen hundred dollars I deposited back to my
- 13:58Speaker 1: account before they do the stat correction. Then what.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Lawsuit?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Then what you're in a game? Yeah?
- 14:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you're going to court against DraftKings.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah, just interesting when it was a wild it was
- 14:09Speaker 1: a wild term.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Did you brought up a big game though? Bill's Lions? Lions,
- 14:13Speaker 4: they're so plagued by injuries. They lost a d tackle
- 14:16Speaker 4: yesterday as well. Is it gonna hurt them because right
- 14:20Speaker 4: now they're tied for the one seed.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I got the.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Lion's schedule right here, it's a favorable schedule. I mean
- 14:25Speaker 4: they're at the Bucks or at the forty nine ers,
- 14:28Speaker 4: and then they have Minnesota shaky Eagles. Eagles have at Washington,
- 14:34Speaker 4: then they have the Cowboys, and they have the Giants.
- 14:36Speaker 4: You got to assume they're both gonna win two or
- 14:38Speaker 4: three of those and then Lions win. Lions would end
- 14:41Speaker 4: up winning the bye.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I'm nervous form in the playoff, the way that they've
- 14:46Speaker 1: had these injuries on defense.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I know if anybody needs the buye week, it's the Lions.
- 14:52Speaker 4: They gotta have it because it's a team that's scratched
- 14:55Speaker 4: in Claude. They put the whole entire city on their back.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Like we talked about all the time, the Lady in
- 14:58Speaker 4: August essentially to us how much he loves the city
- 15:01Speaker 4: and loves the lines, Like there's fans like that in
- 15:03Speaker 4: Detroit and you want to see him make a big run.
- 15:07Speaker 4: But I was looking at the playoff thing, and it's
- 15:09Speaker 4: hard to think that the Eagles, who might be the
- 15:11Speaker 4: most miserable type for one seed of all time the
- 15:14Speaker 4: team but Eagles and Chiefs, because you look at the
- 15:17Speaker 4: AFC picture and it's like, it's gonna be the Chiefs again.
- 15:22Speaker 1: It's gonna be the Chiefs in Minnesota. Sneak. It's Minnesota sneaking,
- 15:27Speaker 1: sneak in there. I mean eleven and two. They're a
- 15:30Speaker 1: good team.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good ball club, There's no doubt about it.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Philly's interesting. They are. It is crazy how they are
- 15:39Speaker 1: arguably the best team in the NFL and it just
- 15:41Speaker 1: seems like they have nothing but drama around them. Did
- 15:43Speaker 1: you see the Sirianne clip last night to where he's
- 15:45Speaker 1: going to the to the bench on the d line
- 15:47Speaker 1: of the Lions coach like basically saying, hey, not now,
- 15:49Speaker 1: not now, And it's just I don't know, I don't
- 15:52Speaker 1: I just don't know how I feel about how they
- 15:54Speaker 1: feel about Sirianni. Seems like he just has like no respectation. God,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I hate That's what it is. From a from a listen,
- 16:04Speaker 1: third party. I'm on the outside looking in. There seems
- 16:07Speaker 1: to be something new every week. Last week it was
- 16:08Speaker 1: AJ Brown, but they they all learned from that. It's
- 16:10Speaker 1: like feed the beast, feed the man. He scores a touchdown,
- 16:13Speaker 1: the over and celebrate they got the ball.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Over, Sorry, it catches over one hundred yards a touchdown
- 16:18Speaker 4: and then there's the celebration. To me, it just made
- 16:20Speaker 4: me laugh.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, they're letting you know that they handled it. They're
- 16:23Speaker 1: letting you know that they handled it in house. That hey,
- 16:25Speaker 1: give a J. Brown the football. You're gonna need to
- 16:27Speaker 1: give a J. Brown the football if you're gonna win
- 16:29Speaker 1: this whole thing.
- 16:30Speaker 4: True, I mean Saquon Barkley, but yeah.
- 16:32Speaker 1: No doubt, you're right, you're right.
- 16:36Speaker 4: But if you're if you're twelve and two, is a
- 16:37Speaker 4: ball club, like you should be the energy should be
- 16:41Speaker 4: higher than ever this point December, everyone's getting Christmas gifts.
- 16:44Speaker 4: The quarterbacks auditioned out to everybody. Something big, something big,
- 16:48Speaker 4: and right now it's just you're right, it doesn't feel
- 16:50Speaker 4: like it. And I don't know if we were just
- 16:51Speaker 4: over dissecting clips, you Cinciriani like the was it the.
- 16:55Speaker 1: U the d lion coach, the line coach. He was like, hey, no,
- 16:58Speaker 1: big Dom gets himself in back there, like it's a
- 17:02Speaker 1: security is always finding Yeah, it's just always finding a
- 17:05Speaker 1: moment to get in that camera angle.
- 17:07Speaker 4: It's a while, it's it's a wild situation. Hopefully they
- 17:09Speaker 4: can just hold it together for another month and a half.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because they have a they have a Jalen Carter
- 17:14Speaker 1: out there just yeah popping dudes mid play said that,
- 17:20Speaker 1: I mean I'd be dead with that hit to the head. Wait,
- 17:23Speaker 1: what is this Jaylen Carter when he's in the middle
- 17:26Speaker 1: of play, rushing the passer and he just fucking pops?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Who was it? No, it wasn't talking about Miles Garrett.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You almost played they played the Steelers, Your Eagles played
- 17:40Speaker 1: the Steelers.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Just popped up with Miles Garrett yeah, yeahs off lineman.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Miles Garrett is an edgdresher for the Cleveland Brown. Yes,
- 17:54Speaker 5: she has nothing to do with this topic. That is right,
- 17:56Speaker 5: and I'm gonna walk in on the Yeah.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You're right, you're a little off to that. You said it.
- 18:01Speaker 5: I'll lock in with the Lucy one day, locking with
- 18:03Speaker 5: a Lucy.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Get diald in, diald in.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Miles Garrett did rip his helmet off in a like
- 18:08Speaker 5: really weird play.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Yeah, he got injured.
- 18:11Speaker 5: But that's different than what you guys that were.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Talking about, right, JHN Carter's out the assaulting dudes mid
- 18:16Speaker 1: play on the field, which again that that violent team
- 18:20Speaker 1: of the Eagles. I low key love to see it.
- 18:22Speaker 8: Do they have the best vibe right now with everyone
- 18:24Speaker 8: doing the celebration after every good play, even wide receivers
- 18:28Speaker 8: getting up, Yeah, first down couper Dijon Cooper.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I don't know what it is to look it up.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I might be too occasion to understand that, but that
- 18:38Speaker 4: is kind of a nice thing.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Yeah, let's hope that team has that vibe and continuity going.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Because you think about the Eagles, you think Kelsey, Kelsey
- 18:46Speaker 4: retires huge leadership. Then on the other side of the ball.
- 18:49Speaker 4: You have Brandon Graham who comes back for his fifteenth season.
- 18:51Speaker 4: You think he's going to retire. He ends up tearing
- 18:53Speaker 4: a peck he he he sustains an injury. Maybe it
- 18:55Speaker 4: is a tricp or something. It was upper body injury.
- 18:58Speaker 4: So now you have two major leaders in the Eagles
- 19:00Speaker 4: organizations that are now now you think these are gonna
- 19:02Speaker 4: fall apart. And now the Eagles have the best win
- 19:05Speaker 4: streak record of their entire franchise, ten wins in a row,
- 19:08Speaker 4: Like they should be thinking to themselves, boys, we can
- 19:11Speaker 4: go win it all. We should have vibes up here
- 19:13Speaker 4: and it might be that way.
- 19:15Speaker 1: It might be we think that way. It's just funny
- 19:19Speaker 1: anytime you see a Syrian because I'm just thinking, man,
- 19:21Speaker 1: this is the head coach, and it's like they're always
- 19:23Speaker 1: just patting him on the head, like hey, relax, relax.
- 19:25Speaker 4: God do you imagine if got padded like that?
- 19:28Speaker 1: Oh? I mean that's the thing though, like the Rabel
- 19:32Speaker 1: ain't getting treated like again. I don't want to say
- 19:35Speaker 1: too much because Sirianna can be a great he could,
- 19:37Speaker 1: he could be a great guy.
- 19:40Speaker 4: The show could be absolutely love to have him on
- 19:42Speaker 4: the show.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Someday.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Yeah, talk about it. Hey, are you respected? Yeah, that's
- 19:46Speaker 4: that's the question.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 4: But the NFC is the most interesting playoff picture there
- 19:49Speaker 4: is because with the AFC, it's like you just got
- 19:53Speaker 4: to think the Chiefs are gonna do it again.
- 19:55Speaker 1: No, yeah, Bills are the team.
- 19:59Speaker 4: If if the Bills would have just lost the regular
- 20:02Speaker 4: season game against the Chiefs, I would agree with you.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Do you think the Bills are wop the Chiefs? I
- 20:08Speaker 1: think so too. It's like if you watch the Chiefs Browns,
- 20:11Speaker 1: even the moments that the Chiefs have the opportunity to
- 20:14Speaker 1: step on their throat and really just outscore, they haven't
- 20:16Speaker 1: scored over over thirty points the entire year, over thirty points.
- 20:19Speaker 1: That's that correct. The Bills have scored thirty points in
- 20:21Speaker 1: like six straight and they beat the Chiefs. Yeah. Yeah,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I'm just the opportunity to step on a team like
- 20:29Speaker 1: the Browns throat. They fail to do. So they do
- 20:33Speaker 1: win twenty one to seven, But there's just something about
- 20:36Speaker 1: the Chiefs. Just don't think they do it this year.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Man, Just when's he gonna learn? Just win? Is he
- 20:42Speaker 4: gonna learn? I do love the Bills. I love Josh Allen.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I love the way that team's operating. The hype video
- 20:47Speaker 4: from Detroit, Detroit versus the Bills. You see ahih video
- 20:50Speaker 4: on Twitter. It was like a back and forth about
- 20:52Speaker 4: two cities.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And the teams talking, yeah, campbelling, and it just it
- 20:57Speaker 1: just fires you up.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Yeah, because there's not a lot going up there. Buffalo
- 21:00Speaker 4: was there for a wedding back in twenty twenty fifteen.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Not a lot going.
- 21:04Speaker 4: They got the bills, That's what they got.
- 21:06Speaker 1: They got the bills with cheese, which is disgusting. But
- 21:11Speaker 1: in the uh, in the Eagles game, to t J Watt,
- 21:14Speaker 1: do we know how bad that injury is with him?
- 21:16Speaker 1: It looks like a foot right, you lose t J Watt,
- 21:18Speaker 1: it is over for the Steelers, you.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Do is he is so? He is so incredible.
- 21:26Speaker 1: You know that entire game He's sitting next to fucking
- 21:29Speaker 1: Max too. God, he was ready to kill somebody. But
- 21:36Speaker 1: NFC West, t J.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Watt's injury not long term, probably good for the playoffs
- 21:42Speaker 4: at least. Yeah, I mean he's he's He's a Watt dude.
- 21:46Speaker 4: He'll be back. He'll have the dear Antler spray, He'll
- 21:50Speaker 4: have all the things he needs to get done. To
- 21:52Speaker 4: get back on whatever it takes, whatever it takes legally, legally,
- 21:56Speaker 4: it never got popped for a drug test like me.
- 21:58Speaker 4: They he will be back on the field.
- 21:59Speaker 1: He'll be smart about it.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, he'll have that BPC whatever, the new version of
- 22:03Speaker 4: BPC one. Yeah, I think that they done. You're talking about.
- 22:06Speaker 1: AFC West, the NFC West, NFC West once again wide open.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Seahawks had a big opportunity to beat the Packers and
- 22:13Speaker 1: remain the top dog there and again the Cardinals win
- 22:16Speaker 1: against the Patriots. That like that division between the Rams,
- 22:20Speaker 1: the Cardinals, the forty nine Ers, and the Seahawks is
- 22:24Speaker 1: wide open, and I have no clue who's gonna come
- 22:27Speaker 1: out on top. I really don't.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's sad, but I think the forty nine
- 22:32Speaker 4: Ers are not the team that's gonna come out on
- 22:33Speaker 4: top of that.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You say that, but you just never fucking know.
- 22:36Speaker 4: You never know.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I think is the Rams or the Seahawks. But again
- 22:42Speaker 1: with the Niners, you never know because that staff, they
- 22:45Speaker 1: they still got the guys every by something about they're
- 22:46Speaker 1: injured or this or that, like they could just for
- 22:49Speaker 1: whatever reason come alive.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Yeah, basically, the Niners have to win the last three
- 22:54Speaker 4: games of the season just to make it in. And
- 22:56Speaker 4: they do the linebacker saying he's not gonna play. What's
- 22:59Speaker 4: the kid's name? I say, his kid like a kid,
- 23:02Speaker 4: like he's like not three years younger than me, but
- 23:05Speaker 4: like that. That is insane to say you're not going
- 23:08Speaker 4: to play football game acainst your feelings are hurt.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Have you ever heard of that? No? I haven't.
- 23:14Speaker 4: No, you've heard about guys going in the locker room
- 23:15Speaker 4: at halftime. They're twelve year vets. They say, hey, it's
- 23:17Speaker 4: not in I don't have it anymore. To me, it's like, hey,
- 23:20Speaker 4: you just play the last thirty minutes and then retire
- 23:21Speaker 4: after the game. But to say you're just not going
- 23:24Speaker 4: to play a game because Greenlaw comes back from an
- 23:28Speaker 4: achilles injury, he's just staying in the Super Bowl, and they, hey,
- 23:30Speaker 4: we gotta get this guy back on the field. We're
- 23:31Speaker 4: gonna get him reps. He's a starter, he's a Pro Bowl,
- 23:33Speaker 4: All Pro type of guy. And then you take him
- 23:35Speaker 4: out and then you're like, hey, third quarter, guys are injured,
- 23:38Speaker 4: we need you in. There is a team sport, and
- 23:41Speaker 4: now you had to because he decides that to play
- 23:42Speaker 4: you gotta you had a linebacker there hobbling around, right,
- 23:45Speaker 4: and that's just crazy.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And it's just not understood. And who knows if there
- 23:48Speaker 1: was drama going on before the game started with their
- 23:50Speaker 1: situation inside the linebacker room, but again and not being
- 23:54Speaker 1: understood before he even straps up like he's dressed to
- 23:56Speaker 1: go play. It's like, yo, if you're you're the team
- 23:59Speaker 1: needs you. Yeah, And what sucks is Devandre. He's a
- 24:01Speaker 1: good linebacker, like he's a good sturdy linebacker. And again
- 24:05Speaker 1: the ego is the enemy man whatever he's feeling in
- 24:08Speaker 1: his situation, because look, it's like even if they're going
- 24:12Speaker 1: with green Law and you've had a heavy yer or
- 24:14Speaker 1: you've had a good resume like playing like everybody knows
- 24:17Speaker 1: you can play good, you can play well. You know
- 24:19Speaker 1: that you can play well. And so if they're going
- 24:21Speaker 1: with green Law, you're in a situation where, okay, yeah,
- 24:24Speaker 1: you might be the backup right now, but you never
- 24:26Speaker 1: know when your opportunity comes. Like again Greenlaw, green Law.
- 24:28Speaker 1: He's just come back from an achilles, he needed to
- 24:30Speaker 1: be tapped out and somebody in Devondre to come in
- 24:33Speaker 1: to substitute for him, and he just decides not to play.
- 24:36Speaker 1: It's like, no matter what, you have the opportunity there
- 24:39Speaker 1: to Again, you're proving everybody that they're right for thinking that.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You know, this could be toxic. I'm putting you as
- 24:46Speaker 1: a backup, you know what I mean, versus coming in
- 24:48Speaker 1: and playing and knowing that you are still a good
- 24:51Speaker 1: quality linebacker. They're just the future is with green Law
- 24:54Speaker 1: and I don't know if he's on a one year
- 24:55Speaker 1: deal to year deal, and again, Devandre, he could be
- 24:57Speaker 1: thinking I'm paid. He's made like forty million dollars. He
- 25:00Speaker 1: doesn't need it, and he's good with his decision. But
- 25:02Speaker 1: ultimately it's like, Bro, you're resumeing your reputation on being
- 25:05Speaker 1: a good linebacker. It's now tarnished because you walk out
- 25:07Speaker 1: on your team. And I get, it's a business. There's
- 25:09Speaker 1: all these angles going on, everybody thinking of their own
- 25:12Speaker 1: individual story and their own individual business going on. But
- 25:16Speaker 1: you are in a team game.
- 25:17Speaker 4: That team there's a main story, and there's a bunch
- 25:19Speaker 4: of micro stories and those micro stories or the individual
- 25:21Speaker 4: story that you're playing out yourself. When he is out
- 25:24Speaker 4: of the league ten years from now and he's sitting
- 25:25Speaker 4: at his house, I'm sure he's made all the money
- 25:27Speaker 4: in the world. He's going to sit back and think
- 25:29Speaker 4: about this moment, and if he thought about it without
- 25:31Speaker 4: any bias towards himself, he's going to know that he
- 25:33Speaker 4: made a mistake. Because it's just like you're saying, if
- 25:36Speaker 4: it's a team sport and they pull you out, you
- 25:38Speaker 4: have every right for your feelings to be hurt. You
- 25:40Speaker 4: have every right to be like, bro, I've been playing well,
- 25:41Speaker 4: I should be able to still play. But if you
- 25:43Speaker 4: are asked to go back in the game after somebody's
- 25:46Speaker 4: sustained injury and you say no, you're now being a
- 25:48Speaker 4: bad teammates the guy who's hurt because now he's got
- 25:50Speaker 4: a hobble around out there, you're hurting his money because
- 25:53Speaker 4: he's putting bad film out there, and you're taking away
- 25:55Speaker 4: opportunities from yourself. Like you just said, like when he
- 25:58Speaker 4: goes obviously, if he's that upset where he's not going
- 26:01Speaker 4: to play, Let's say he goes in place you know
- 26:02Speaker 4: there's an issue. The rest of the year. Season's almost over.
- 26:05Speaker 4: When he's done, he can go to a new team,
- 26:07Speaker 4: and there's no forward facing media coverage of a guy
- 26:11Speaker 4: who decided not to play a football game where other
- 26:13Speaker 4: thirty one other teams are gonna look at you and say, well,
- 26:15Speaker 4: let's use not a team guy when the shit gets hard,
- 26:17Speaker 4: when the shit gets tough, we're not gonna put him
- 26:20Speaker 4: in or he's not gonna be a guy we can
- 26:22Speaker 4: depend on. And that's that's the bummers, because he made
- 26:26Speaker 4: a quick decision on something that is going to hurt
- 26:29Speaker 4: the rest of his NFL career, doesn't matter how long
- 26:31Speaker 4: it is, and eventually will become a regret that he
- 26:33Speaker 4: has because it's not dude, the NFL, like we talk
- 26:35Speaker 4: about it, how zoomed in players can be. Now zoomed
- 26:38Speaker 4: in You and I were, and then you eventually get
- 26:41Speaker 4: out and you're realize how all the things that seem
- 26:43Speaker 4: so big really aren't that big. This is one of
- 26:45Speaker 4: those moments where it seems to get such a big
- 26:47Speaker 4: deal and you feel disrespected as a man. You just
- 26:49Speaker 4: go out there and play. It's going to fix itself.
- 26:52Speaker 4: You play good ball, it fixes itself. That's the frustrating part.
- 26:55Speaker 4: I feel bad for him.
- 26:56Speaker 1: It's like ultimately your feeding the bad wolf. Yeah, the
- 26:59Speaker 1: story the good the bad wolf on your shoulders, and
- 27:01Speaker 1: he made a selfish decision, and again it's like we
- 27:05Speaker 1: can talk about football, but everybody, it's like everybody zoomed
- 27:09Speaker 1: in on their own situation. No matter what, you can't
- 27:11Speaker 1: control certain things like outside of yourself, like you can't
- 27:14Speaker 1: help that the coaches want to go with green Law
- 27:15Speaker 1: over you. What you can control. What you can help
- 27:18Speaker 1: is your attitude and effort every day coming in to
- 27:20Speaker 1: know like, all right, I'm gonna be the backup here.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna be the best fucking backup in the league
- 27:24Speaker 1: until my time comes again. Because no matter what, you've
- 27:28Speaker 1: put together a great resume and you're tarnishing it because
- 27:31Speaker 1: you're so caught up in your own story that you're
- 27:33Speaker 1: pissed off because people outside of your controller making the
- 27:36Speaker 1: decision that we're gonna go with green Law. Where it's like, again,
- 27:39Speaker 1: if you just put your put your head down and
- 27:41Speaker 1: be like you have to accept the reality of your
- 27:44Speaker 1: current situation and fucking be ready to go because your
- 27:47Speaker 1: number is gonna get called again in this league. Like
- 27:49Speaker 1: one thing we do know, the NFL one injury rate
- 27:52Speaker 1: green Law needed to tap, your opportunity would have still
- 27:55Speaker 1: been there to go back in and you just you
- 27:57Speaker 1: never know. I hate to see it. I hate the
- 27:59Speaker 1: bad teammate stuff, I hate the ego, I hate the
- 28:02Speaker 1: selfish bullshit like I'm just not about it. I'm just
- 28:04Speaker 1: not about it.
- 28:05Speaker 9: To me, it's even simpler of it's your job, like
- 28:08Speaker 9: you you're paid to do this and if you're healthy,
- 28:10Speaker 9: you have to do it. In the real person world,
- 28:13Speaker 9: it's like you can't show up and they actually think
- 28:16Speaker 9: them out and then get it's like taking the if
- 28:20Speaker 9: he doesn't love football like some of the guys do,
- 28:23Speaker 9: taking the chaining Crowder outlook on it like, yeah, it's
- 28:26Speaker 9: like working at Walgreens. I show up, I do my job,
- 28:29Speaker 9: I leave, and then that's it. And it's like I
- 28:31Speaker 9: feel like that has gotten lost in a lot of
- 28:34Speaker 9: pro sports leaders.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Just looking from that angle too, it's like you're you're
- 28:37Speaker 4: getting paid to sit, You're getting paid to wear a
- 28:40Speaker 4: uniform that get to wear, Like that's that's crazy. You
- 28:45Speaker 4: just got to be able to zoom out.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Man.
- 28:47Speaker 4: This is a perfect data read for will Compton to read.
- 28:52Speaker 1: It's the most wonderful time of the year for getting
- 28:55Speaker 1: in on all the hoops, football and hockey action at
- 28:58Speaker 1: the DraftKings Sportsbook in the season of giving We're being
- 29:01Speaker 1: gifted college football and basketball, Pro football and basketball and

- 29:35Speaker 1: The crown is yours? What else? Because I'm getting worked
- 29:41Speaker 1: up over that devondree?
- 29:43Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, what do you do in that situation?
- 29:45Speaker 1: I'm playing? Like, if I think back on any of
- 29:48Speaker 1: my own experiences, here's a situation in twenty seventeen where
- 29:52Speaker 1: I was pissed when we ended up getting and I've
- 29:54Speaker 1: told this story before, where we get Zach Brown, All
- 29:56Speaker 1: Pro Bowl linebacker. He becomes a starter. Whether I think
- 30:00Speaker 1: it's political, it doesn't matter. At the end of the day,
- 30:03Speaker 1: he was the starter. So the entire year, I'm a backup.
- 30:05Speaker 1: We had a third string guy, Martrell Spate, who's supposed
- 30:08Speaker 1: to be the third string, and when Mason Foster or
- 30:11Speaker 1: Zach Brown would be injured, we would go in the supplement.
- 30:15Speaker 1: And when Mason Foster went on IR for the rest
- 30:18Speaker 1: of the year is like the middle of the year,
- 30:19Speaker 1: back third of the year. I'm thinking to myself, I'm
- 30:22Speaker 1: going to be the Mike backer with the green dot
- 30:24Speaker 1: and everything else. Well, I come to learn on the
- 30:27Speaker 1: week of the game that we're playing against the Cowboys
- 30:30Speaker 1: that I'm splitting time with Spate, who's supposed to be
- 30:34Speaker 1: my backup, right like in my own story, in my
- 30:36Speaker 1: own movie. And I'm pissed off because they're only giving
- 30:38Speaker 1: me base reps, which you know, twelve person or twenty
- 30:41Speaker 1: one personnel teams don't do it a whole lot in
- 30:44Speaker 1: this game unless you're playing the lines like Dallas did
- 30:46Speaker 1: it that week. There's going to be about fifteen snaps
- 30:48Speaker 1: that I got to play bass. The majority of the
- 30:50Speaker 1: snaps are in your Nickel package Nickel dime, and Spate
- 30:54Speaker 1: was going to be the guy. Spate was going to
- 30:55Speaker 1: be the guy with either the green dot or Zach
- 30:58Speaker 1: Brown was. I forget what it was.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I remember definitely not the guy who in.
- 31:01Speaker 1: It, but I remember being so pissed off, like going
- 31:04Speaker 1: to the linebacker. I go to talk to Coach Ko
- 31:06Speaker 1: about it, and I'm like fuming. I'm mad that I'm
- 31:09Speaker 1: finding out in a special teams meeting that like, hey, Will,
- 31:11Speaker 1: You're gonna be all on all four. I think they're
- 31:13Speaker 1: gonna be wrong with Spate. And I'm thinking to myself, like,
- 31:15Speaker 1: why am I finding out right now in a special
- 31:17Speaker 1: teams meeting? Then I'm not going to be the guy
- 31:18Speaker 1: get the reps. And again I was tight and I
- 31:22Speaker 1: was bitter about it. And when I went home that
- 31:24Speaker 1: day because I went out to practice, Coach Grud's trying
- 31:26Speaker 1: to talk to me about it, and everybody's trying to
- 31:28Speaker 1: talk to him about because I'm being a bitch in
- 31:30Speaker 1: this situation, I'm being very salty about it. And when
- 31:34Speaker 1: I go home, I'm like thinking to myself, like, hey,
- 31:36Speaker 1: if I don't prepare and go all in on these
- 31:40Speaker 1: base reps, however many reps I do get and I
- 31:43Speaker 1: happen to play badly, all I'm going to be telling
- 31:45Speaker 1: the staff and everybody else is that I'm proving them
- 31:48Speaker 1: right for going with Spate, Like Spate's going to be
- 31:50Speaker 1: the guy, and then if I play poorly in my
- 31:52Speaker 1: base reps, like he'll take over the entire spot. But
- 31:55Speaker 1: if I don't go out and do everything I can
- 31:57Speaker 1: to control my situation, which I was going to be
- 31:59Speaker 1: the starting backer in the base package, and if I
- 32:02Speaker 1: play well, then hopefully I can just build on it
- 32:04Speaker 1: from there. Played well in that Dallas game, and the
- 32:07Speaker 1: next week we're playing the Vikings, get a phone call, Hey,
- 32:11Speaker 1: you got the keys, you're rolling with the green dot,
- 32:13Speaker 1: You're taking over for all of it.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:15Speaker 1: So that's an experience I think about when I think
- 32:18Speaker 1: about this Devondre Campbell is because again, it's like you
- 32:21Speaker 1: can piss him on all you want, but the moment
- 32:23Speaker 1: you go out there, you quit on your team or
- 32:24Speaker 1: you play poorly, you're just proving everybody else right that
- 32:27Speaker 1: they made the right that they made the right call
- 32:29Speaker 1: to go with a guy who's itching the comeback, ready
- 32:31Speaker 1: to come back, who's rady to sacrifice for the team
- 32:34Speaker 1: and to make a run for the playoffs. When you're
- 32:35Speaker 1: kind of just fucking quitting on everybody, right.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Shows how much you cared about the team. I had
- 32:39Speaker 4: a situation it was like twenty nineteen, no, twenty eighteen.
- 32:44Speaker 4: I think we're playing the Saints, and it was like
- 32:45Speaker 4: the second to last game of the year. Saints are
- 32:48Speaker 4: an NFC team, and then last game of the year
- 32:49Speaker 4: I think was the Texans, and we were in this
- 32:51Speaker 4: situation where, for whatever reason, that game didn't matter from
- 32:54Speaker 4: like a record standpoint, it wasn't going to affect our
- 32:56Speaker 4: seating going into the playoffs, but the next game did,
- 33:00Speaker 4: so I think Tannehill got like half the snaps, Derek
- 33:04Speaker 4: got like didn't play any of the snaps, and there's
- 33:06Speaker 4: a bunch of players that are getting rested for the
- 33:07Speaker 4: next week. And I found myself sitting there like I
- 33:11Speaker 4: played every single snap of that game, or I wasn't
- 33:13Speaker 4: even told that I was getting a break and I
- 33:14Speaker 4: was finding out before where it felt like a preseason
- 33:16Speaker 4: game where like guys are like, hey, Derek, you're sitting
- 33:19Speaker 4: this guy's doing this and he is doing that, And
- 33:21Speaker 4: I felt like upset about it because I was like why, why,
- 33:25Speaker 4: why didn't I get I decided this contract you get
- 33:27Speaker 4: into a mode of just like thinking selfishly about yourself,
- 33:30Speaker 4: and then you see everybody else around you kind of
- 33:32Speaker 4: getting this like, you know, this stressful time of year
- 33:35Speaker 4: when you want to have a little bit of a
- 33:36Speaker 4: break too, if you're if you're afforded the opportunity, which
- 33:38Speaker 4: we were at that point, you want to have the break.
- 33:41Speaker 4: And then you see a couple other guys. But at
- 33:43Speaker 4: the end of the day, I went out and played
- 33:44Speaker 4: every snap, like you gotta go and do those things.
- 33:46Speaker 4: And yeah, it took a series or two because I
- 33:47Speaker 4: found out like ninety minutes before the game. So I
- 33:50Speaker 4: have a little come to Jesus talking with myself in
- 33:51Speaker 4: the bathroom. Listen, no one's coming to save you. You
- 33:54Speaker 4: gotta situation, embrace the situation. And it's because the thing
- 33:59Speaker 4: it's easy to say on a microphone after everything's over
- 34:03Speaker 4: and be able to talk and be like this is
- 34:04Speaker 4: how everybody should operate and act. But we just show
- 34:07Speaker 4: two examples of like as a player, you easily find
- 34:10Speaker 4: yourself falling into feeding the bad wolf. We were like, well,
- 34:13Speaker 4: people are getting X, Y and Z, why aren't I
- 34:15Speaker 4: getting that? You're like the comparison is a thief of
- 34:17Speaker 4: joy and so now it goes back to what JP
- 34:20Speaker 4: was just saying and shanding. Crowder said, you're just it's
- 34:22Speaker 4: your job, like if they're you're told to do something,
- 34:25Speaker 4: you just go and do it. You're getting paid a
- 34:27Speaker 4: crazy amount of money to go play a sport. So
- 34:30Speaker 4: I think the soapboxes. We were good on the soapbox. Yeah, yeah,
- 34:34Speaker 4: but it's just wild man.
- 34:38Speaker 1: All right? Should we hit who's over there with them?
- 34:41Speaker 1: Do we have somebody over there with them so you
- 34:42Speaker 1: can finish out this intro? J Rod and Coop?
- 34:47Speaker 4: Okay, let's do Yeah, JP, want't you go over there?
- 34:49Speaker 4: Since the ties, Let's hit these ads real quick.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Huh yeah, I just.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Want to text me or what do you want to do?
- 35:03Speaker 1: You want to just you do a little shoutout, no
- 35:05Speaker 1: free shout out. I can, I canploy a little bit
- 35:07Speaker 1: of our I I do have a shout out, no
- 35:09Speaker 1: free shot out.
- 35:10Speaker 4: I do as well.
- 35:10Speaker 1: And it's the syringe for medicine for little kids. Rue
- 35:14Speaker 1: was sick over the weekend and it was a battle
- 35:17Speaker 1: getting medicine down. She never wanted to do it and
- 35:20Speaker 1: ultimately got to the point to where I'm pissed off
- 35:24Speaker 1: and I'm like, hey, I'm gonna hold you down if
- 35:27Speaker 1: you don't take this medicine. I'm talking, I'm trying to
- 35:29Speaker 1: give her. We're trying to give her cookies. We're trying
- 35:31Speaker 1: to talk about cookies and I we're trying to talk
- 35:33Speaker 1: about all these things to get her like, hey, just
- 35:35Speaker 1: do this. We'll throw a little bear, We'll throw on
- 35:37Speaker 1: all your favorite things. We need you to take medicine
- 35:39Speaker 1: because sweetheart, you have a fever and we have to
- 35:41Speaker 1: get this. Medicine is going down one way or another.
- 35:43Speaker 1: You can do it willingly, Yeah.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Do the easy way, to do the hard ways.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And ultimately I'm I'm having hold her
- 35:48Speaker 1: arms and screaming. Yeah. And so I wrote that tweet.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I feel like I'm like waterboarding my daughter and you
- 35:54Speaker 1: feel bad. So she's like and then you kind of
- 35:57Speaker 1: you kind of look over and you start kind of
- 35:59Speaker 1: like you start chuckling in a little bit because he
- 36:01Speaker 1: just realizes.
- 36:02Speaker 4: And it tastes good.
- 36:03Speaker 1: That's a crazy thing. I'm like this, I'm like, heydad
- 36:04Speaker 1: is gonna tast something too, And I'm like, oh, these
- 36:06Speaker 1: tastes like sweet, yeah, this this tastes fine, like rude,
- 36:10Speaker 1: Just take the medicine.
- 36:11Speaker 4: It's like getting a dog medicine. Dude. You shay like
- 36:12Speaker 4: ground by the mouth real quick, shove in the back
- 36:14Speaker 4: of their throat and like close their mouth and blow
- 36:15Speaker 4: on their nose.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And this all my pushing too, urs. She's kind of
- 36:17Speaker 1: choking a little bit, like listen, all right, here, takes
- 36:19Speaker 1: some water, all right? Round two? Right, yeah, yeah, just
- 36:22Speaker 1: a little bit like a little.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Four six hours. We got to reboot this thing and
- 36:25Speaker 4: get it done.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Dude.
- 36:26Speaker 4: How about kids when they're flailing and it's kind of
- 36:28Speaker 4: like if you really thought about it, you're thinking yourself,
- 36:30Speaker 4: you're doing everything you can to get out of this,
- 36:33Speaker 4: and it's not even hard for me.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yeah, little kids are man, I know.
- 36:38Speaker 4: And also, dude, my children when they throw temper tantrums,
- 36:41Speaker 4: they always have a way of finding my testicles. They
- 36:43Speaker 4: always figure out how to fucking flail those feet, dude,
- 36:46Speaker 4: and they're just fucking hitting those things every time. My
- 36:49Speaker 4: four year olds just tripping about something the other day
- 36:51Speaker 4: and I like picked up like sweetie, relaxed, like no
- 36:54Speaker 4: legs start going crazy. She was like put a little
- 36:57Speaker 4: like body bag to things for a minute. I'm like,
- 36:59Speaker 4: how the fuck, how do you hit that.
- 37:01Speaker 1: It is funny how upset they getting it internally like
- 37:04Speaker 1: pisses you off and away. You're like, all right, we're
- 37:07Speaker 1: about to find out. You're about to really find out
- 37:08Speaker 1: about your dad and his ship. And I'm thinking I
- 37:11Speaker 1: am a psycho for thinking this way, dude. Yeah, two
- 37:15Speaker 1: years old. I'm like, all right, all right, you're testing me.
- 37:18Speaker 1: You want to go? You want to shout at the
- 37:20Speaker 1: title right now?
- 37:21Speaker 4: A little early to make that call, but I guess
- 37:22Speaker 4: I'll I'll let you have one. Yeah, yeah, dude, the
- 37:26Speaker 4: message shout out the syringes. So what is a good thing?
- 37:28Speaker 1: Yeah, there's the ones where you can like, uh, you
- 37:31Speaker 1: can pull it up and just having a syringe so
- 37:33Speaker 1: that way you're not like trying to get them to
- 37:34Speaker 1: take it from a spoon or have him drink it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: You just get to be fauzzle, like bite their teeth
- 37:39Speaker 1: and not try to not let you execute it whatsoever.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I'm like holding her, holding her jaw and cheek, and
- 37:45Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, here we go, and you feel terrible.
- 37:48Speaker 1: It hurts you way worse than it hurts them. Yeah.
- 37:50Speaker 4: After after all done, they kind of like relax, like
- 37:52Speaker 4: eating some cheerios, watching a show or something like that,
- 37:54Speaker 4: and you walk up, You're like, hey, you want to
- 37:55Speaker 4: talk about what happened out there, but they've completely moved on,
- 37:58Speaker 4: like and then I'm like.
- 38:00Speaker 1: You did it, you did it. Yeah, yeah, you did it.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Here's some water that is awesome. My shadow in her
- 38:06Speaker 4: free shout out goes to Christmas Magic. And my wife
- 38:11Speaker 4: started a tradition. It is such a pain in the
- 38:13Speaker 4: ass that she started this tradition, but she does these
- 38:16Speaker 4: things the first December all the way to Christmas. She
- 38:18Speaker 4: has this thing called Christmas Magic, and she bought this
- 38:20Speaker 4: little like house type of thing and it has these
- 38:23Speaker 4: little drawers that has twenty five little drawers.
- 38:25Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah.
- 38:28Speaker 4: You kind of like that. And she tailor handwrites riddles
- 38:33Speaker 4: and ties a bow on them and when she puts
- 38:35Speaker 4: it in there, the light turns on of the little house,
- 38:38Speaker 4: so the kids know that the Christmas Magic is here.
- 38:40Speaker 4: And it can be a whole bunch of different things,
- 38:42Speaker 4: like it was making ornaments one day, it was finding
- 38:46Speaker 4: a bunch of toys you don't use anymore, We're gonna
- 38:48Speaker 4: go donate it to kids that can't have toys. And uh,
- 38:51Speaker 4: the one yesterday was just getting getting the pj's whole
- 38:56Speaker 4: fame in the car, we all got te's and just
- 38:58Speaker 4: go look at Christmas lights. Call a buddy who does lights.
- 39:01Speaker 4: I'm like, hey, what's the best place in town? We
- 39:03Speaker 4: go to this dated community. We tell them we're so
- 39:05Speaker 4: and so we dive into there we go and just
- 39:08Speaker 4: it's so funny how kids attention spans work. Because they're
- 39:11Speaker 4: having such a great time in the moment where the
- 39:13Speaker 4: lights are being seen, but traveling the ten minutes to
- 39:16Speaker 4: go see the lights. It's on bored. I want this song?
- 39:19Speaker 4: Can we have a Christmas story? Not a Christmas song?
- 39:21Speaker 4: And fighting about what Christmas song it is? And then
- 39:23Speaker 4: all of a sudden it's like ten fifteen seconds of
- 39:25Speaker 4: pure joy and bliss. Yeah, well, the those lights, what
- 39:27Speaker 4: about those? I'm thinking notes for myself. I'm thinking myself,
- 39:30Speaker 4: I gotta up my game. I'm seeing something. These houses
- 39:31Speaker 4: out here. I'm thinking, I got to figure out how
- 39:34Speaker 4: have a Grizzwold type of Christmas? The Grizzwolds.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the movie?
- 39:39Speaker 4: I'm asking you?
- 39:40Speaker 1: The Christmas vacation?
- 39:41Speaker 4: That is correct?
- 39:41Speaker 1: Sir?
- 39:42Speaker 4: Nice get pulled, good, pull, I get worried about you.
- 39:44Speaker 1: And it comes to the movie. I know I worried
- 39:45Speaker 1: about myself.
- 39:46Speaker 4: But uh yeah, dude, Christmas magic. She literally handwrites these
- 39:49Speaker 4: riddles and just total all time. Mom move. These kids
- 39:53Speaker 4: are going to grow up and they love it. And
- 39:55Speaker 4: my daughter, my seven year old win.
- 39:56Speaker 6: She is like.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Full full Santa mode right now. She's fully in to
- 40:00Speaker 4: the belief, all of it so much so to why
- 40:03Speaker 4: I'm getting to the point I'm like, I felt so guilty.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I'm kind of just lying her. You need me to
- 40:07Speaker 1: make a call.
- 40:08Speaker 4: No, you will never get that call again.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Hey, don't win the bat or you will not get
- 40:12Speaker 1: Christmas presents.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Dude.
- 40:17Speaker 1: That was when are you gonna be a good little girl? Now?
- 40:19Speaker 1: No more pe in the bed? Or Santa will not come?
- 40:24Speaker 4: Is he really not gonna come?
- 40:25Speaker 1: No?
- 40:25Speaker 4: No, no, he's he's Sata was telling a joke. I
- 40:28Speaker 4: was thinking of myself, a.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Bed, go to bed? Will? What the fuck was that?
- 40:31Speaker 1: Don't you want to stop missing the bed?
- 40:33Speaker 9: Dude?
- 40:33Speaker 4: That was so funny? How old is ru?
- 40:36Speaker 1: Then?
- 40:36Speaker 4: That was was that last year? Two years ago?
- 40:37Speaker 1: That was like two years ago before?
- 40:41Speaker 4: Yeah, right before?
- 40:42Speaker 1: We don't yeah we did, yeah, we didn't have one yet.
- 40:44Speaker 4: God, I would love to hear Will do that call now,
- 40:46Speaker 4: because you know, Will would be like, hi, sweetie, how
- 40:48Speaker 4: are you like just understand You're like, hey, I'm not
- 40:51Speaker 4: in the middle hole for it. No, it was just
- 40:53Speaker 4: like fucking playing yay, don't do that ship that You're
- 40:57Speaker 4: not gonna get anything.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I've been pee in the bed, dude.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Did you how about the video I sent you a win.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a funny video, dude.
- 41:04Speaker 4: I gotta show you guys this video. So when done
- 41:07Speaker 4: this new thing where she like spies on me and
- 41:09Speaker 4: my wife? And I said something because I said something
- 41:12Speaker 4: the other day man, while I was walking and I
- 41:14Speaker 4: was like, fucking something, and she's like, Dad, why are
- 41:17Speaker 4: you always saying fucking and like perfect pronunciation exactly the
- 41:21Speaker 4: way I say it, And dude, my wife and I
- 41:23Speaker 4: I just trying not to laugh at this thing. I
- 41:26Speaker 4: was like, oh, no, we're talking about ducks. Mom was like, yeah,
- 41:29Speaker 4: Daddy really loves ducks. And she's like she's like, uh,
- 41:33Speaker 4: my tailoring's like use an example of how Daddy uses that.
- 41:36Speaker 4: She goes it's like, let's say there's a girl over there,
- 41:38Speaker 4: and it will be like that fucking girl or she
- 41:41Speaker 4: points to here, like one time there was like this
- 41:42Speaker 4: fucking tattoo.
- 41:43Speaker 1: And then you hear you hear tailing going into let's
- 41:45Speaker 1: get more information. She's like, well, how how long you've
- 41:47Speaker 1: been hearing that? She's like like three years from dad.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Hey. The wild thing too, is is when she said
- 41:55Speaker 4: to Dad, I just pointed out tailing, hoping my point
- 41:58Speaker 4: might have enough energy to take her over to tailor
- 42:00Speaker 4: to like take over that. But yeah, dude, she didn't
- 42:04Speaker 4: say it though. Like we had the little moment.
- 42:06Speaker 5: She said to y'all, I've been hearing this word. I've
- 42:09Speaker 5: been hearing this word for three years now.
- 42:12Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, I was how long you've been hearing that?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Like three years?
- 42:15Speaker 4: Bro? And I just literally I was like video. I
- 42:18Speaker 4: was like videotaping it and I had to send it
- 42:20Speaker 4: to Will and He's just sending like a bunch of hogs.
- 42:21Speaker 4: I'm thinking of myself. Am I bad?
- 42:23Speaker 1: Dad? Not of those moments you're like, damn kids, hear everything, bro,
- 42:27Speaker 1: everything everything.
- 42:28Speaker 5: That did unlock a memory of I remember, like spying
- 42:31Speaker 5: on my parents from other rooms. Yeah, I truly remember that,
- 42:36Speaker 5: like sitting like you go to.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Bed, they're up in the living room talking. You want
- 42:39Speaker 1: to know all the conversations, all the conversations.
- 42:41Speaker 5: You can't even hear it sometimes, but you're just like
- 42:43Speaker 5: sitting there and you're watching them interact and then they're like.
- 42:45Speaker 1: A hear him talking about you, Oh yeah in school
- 42:49Speaker 1: or something.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, bro, breaking news.
- 42:53Speaker 7: David Montgomery out and definitely mcl injury. Probably done for
- 42:57Speaker 7: the whole school. Lions might be folding.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Fuck man, dude.
- 43:03Speaker 4: If there's a man that can do it's dead cure
- 43:06Speaker 4: a culture that can do it, it's damn.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I hate that, bro, because they've been having a fucking
- 43:11Speaker 1: year man, and they've just been They've been getting hit

- 44:55Speaker 4: Let's dive into John Gruden?
- 44:56Speaker 1: Dude, dude, he was How awesome is he?
- 44:59Speaker 4: The story? The twisted question? You would have thought he
- 45:02Speaker 4: knew the twisted question before we even get into him
- 45:04Speaker 4: him just his voice to hearing on Monday Night football
- 45:07Speaker 4: for nine years and having him call a couple of
- 45:10Speaker 4: your games and like being excited that he's just a legend.
- 45:13Speaker 1: And seeing that look in his eye. We just know
- 45:15Speaker 1: he's passionate about football. He just loves it.
- 45:18Speaker 9: Man.
- 45:18Speaker 4: It's between a stroke and like a one sixty bpm
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying? Oh yeah, it's beautiful. He's
- 45:25Speaker 4: always teetering like is it too much coffee? Is a
- 45:27Speaker 4: little something extra? What is it? But it's really just
- 45:29Speaker 4: the game. Yeah, Well let me tell you something.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 4: And the way he talks to good coach, what.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Do you say talking about throwing the ball out of
- 45:37Speaker 1: the end zone on a hell Mary, Yeah, guys are
- 45:39Speaker 1: worried about you don't guys, what do you think it is?
- 45:41Speaker 4: I don't know, coach, that's what.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Like the head coach calls on you in a meeting
- 45:45Speaker 1: and you just for whatever, Yeah, your buttthole or no clue,
- 45:48Speaker 1: no clue. You guys are gonna love this episode.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Look at that answer episode.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Make sure you are commenting and again subscribe to the Boys.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Subscribe to the Boys. Here is coach John Gruden.
- 45:58Speaker 4: Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to another episode US with was
- 46:00Speaker 4: very special guest with us. Today, we have a legend
- 46:05Speaker 4: of Clay High School, a legend of Dayton Dayton College quarterback.
- 46:09Speaker 4: We have a super Bowl winning coach, mister John Jrudin. Hey, brother,
- 46:16Speaker 4: we are excited to have you on.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Man.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Obviously we just had you in the locker room. That
- 46:20Speaker 4: show has already come out. But your passion, your love
- 46:23Speaker 4: for football, and you never know some of these personalities
- 46:26Speaker 4: you see. I remember watching you with like the draft experience,
- 46:30Speaker 4: and watching you get up with players and having quarterbacks
- 46:32Speaker 4: talk about it, and you got that look in your
- 46:34Speaker 4: eyes like you do right now having them draw things up.
- 46:36Speaker 4: But you truly, you truly love, eat, and breathe football.
- 46:40Speaker 4: Where did that passion start?
- 46:41Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 46:42Speaker 1: I do.
- 46:42Speaker 6: That's why I love being here with you guys. My
- 46:44Speaker 6: dad was a coach. My dad coached at Indiana, he
- 46:47Speaker 6: coached at Notre Dane, he coached with the Buccaneers. So
- 46:50Speaker 6: I kind of grew up going to the locker rooms
- 46:52Speaker 6: idolizing players, wanting to be a coach. I played at Dayton,
- 46:56Speaker 6: I wasn't very good. My high school is no longer around.
- 46:59Speaker 6: They closed the door, so I don't have any I
- 47:01Speaker 6: don't have any tapes to show you or approve what
- 47:03Speaker 6: kind of player I was. But you know, when you
- 47:05Speaker 6: grow up knowing what you want to do at a
- 47:06Speaker 6: young age and then you have an opportunity to get
- 47:09Speaker 6: your foot in the door. It's just just been that
- 47:11Speaker 6: way from the beginning.
- 47:12Speaker 1: How much of a learning curve was it? Like getting
- 47:14Speaker 1: around your old man and when you were getting integrated
- 47:16Speaker 1: into coaching, just understanding the work that goes into coaching football,
- 47:22Speaker 1: the sacrifice that goes into coaching football. Because it's like
- 47:25Speaker 1: you said, there as players and I've always had aspirations
- 47:27Speaker 1: of coaching, but coordinators, like coaches mine, would always say, hey,
- 47:30Speaker 1: if you find something else to do, you might want
- 47:32Speaker 1: to look into that, because all the work you put
- 47:34Speaker 1: in to be a player It's like, you know, it's
- 47:36Speaker 1: tenfold when you're coaching, because you're there from start to finish,
- 47:38Speaker 1: all around the clock.
- 47:40Speaker 6: I mean, I was lucky because my dad knew people,
- 47:42Speaker 6: and I was able to get started, probably ahead of
- 47:45Speaker 6: some other guys would And I got started at Tennessee
- 47:48Speaker 6: the Volunteers. They were in a sugar bowl. We beat
- 47:51Speaker 6: Venni Testaverdi. So I got around Walt Harris, a great
- 47:55Speaker 6: offensive coach. And I was lucky, man, because when you're
- 47:58Speaker 6: around people that know the game in side and out,
- 48:00Speaker 6: that can set the tone and put you on a
- 48:02Speaker 6: routine and you try to accumulate knowledge every day and
- 48:06Speaker 6: challenge you. That's just the environment I've always been in
- 48:09Speaker 6: and one I've tried to create. So uh, anyways, it
- 48:12Speaker 6: goes by fast. Look look at me now, I'm busting
- 48:15Speaker 6: with the boys.
- 48:16Speaker 4: Man, hit the big time. All your accomplishments has got
- 48:21Speaker 4: to be top five when you UH coach for your
- 48:25Speaker 4: graduate assistant right for the Tennessee Volunteers. Do you hold
- 48:29Speaker 4: any love for the Volunteers?
- 48:30Speaker 1: Now?
- 48:30Speaker 4: Are you a fan of the balls? All the places
- 48:32Speaker 4: you coached at, do you like still hold it near?
- 48:34Speaker 1: Oh?
- 48:34Speaker 6: God, I love Tennessee. I met my wife there. My
- 48:36Speaker 6: wife cheered at Tennessee.
- 48:38Speaker 1: I was a jeerleader.
- 48:39Speaker 6: My wife was dating Johnny Major's son, Johnny Major's legendary
- 48:43Speaker 6: coach at Tennessee. She's dating coach major son, and they
- 48:47Speaker 6: broke up and I went in for the kill man.
- 48:50Speaker 6: But uh, I absolutely loved Knoxville, Tennessee. Love the volunteers.
- 48:54Speaker 6: We have property up in the Smoky Mountains Severeville, near Dollywood,
- 48:58Speaker 6: and we go back a lot. We just love it.
- 49:01Speaker 6: Who were in the playoffs too?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Who are your college teams in Tennessee and Indiana? Are
- 49:04Speaker 1: those of the well?
- 49:05Speaker 6: My dad coach at Indiana Notre Dame. I coached at Tennessee,
- 49:09Speaker 6: University of Pacific. Who dropped football now Southeast Missouri State,
- 49:13Speaker 6: University of Pittsburgh.
- 49:15Speaker 1: You were at Simo Yeah one year?
- 49:18Speaker 6: No shit, Cape Girardo Man, Yeah, bro.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I get a little nervous. I saw when I saw
- 49:23Speaker 4: Dayton on the Wikipedia playing college football there, I was
- 49:25Speaker 4: sticking them. I wonder if he has any love for
- 49:27Speaker 4: Ohio State. But it seems like you just stay in
- 49:29Speaker 4: the Indiana category.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Home.
- 49:30Speaker 6: Yeah, pretty much. I mean I loved my experience growing
- 49:33Speaker 6: up in Ohio. My dad coached at Dayton, made a
- 49:35Speaker 6: lot of connections there. What a staff he was on
- 49:38Speaker 6: at Dayton. John McVay, who became the forty nine ers
- 49:41Speaker 6: GM was the head coach. But most of my ties
- 49:44Speaker 6: or places i've coached, those are the things I can
- 49:47Speaker 6: remember the most.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, what is your What do you think about this
- 49:50Speaker 1: barstool barstool media world?
- 49:52Speaker 6: Yeah, man, it's totally different. You know, I never had
- 49:55Speaker 6: a Twitter page, I never had anything. I don't know
- 49:57Speaker 6: anything about social media. I used to give everybody a
- 50:00Speaker 6: hard time about doing it. Now I'm taking selfies, you know,
- 50:03Speaker 6: with George Brett in the airport. I mean, it's it's
- 50:06Speaker 6: really awkward and different.
- 50:08Speaker 4: It's a wild game. Even even when we finish the
- 50:10Speaker 4: locker room, you're like, hey, put your helmet on, let
- 50:12Speaker 4: me yell at you.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, get cameras.
- 50:14Speaker 4: It seems like you're diving in the game quickly.
- 50:16Speaker 6: I'm trying. And I got some great guys, as you know,
- 50:18Speaker 6: the guys that run the place, Dave Portnoy. These guys
- 50:21Speaker 6: are interesting, man, They're really creative. To put it mildly,
- 50:27Speaker 6: I got to go on the golfing thing with Frankie
- 50:29Speaker 6: and Trent. We had some people come down of my
- 50:32Speaker 6: office last weekend and I'm I'm I'm anxious to see
- 50:35Speaker 6: what is going to unfold, But I just want to
- 50:38Speaker 6: do good. I want to be part of the team
- 50:39Speaker 6: and try to find my role.
- 50:42Speaker 1: You if you're not producing, so I said, I said.
- 50:44Speaker 6: Give me, get me out of here. I got my
- 50:46Speaker 6: I got a couple of things I'm getting better at.
- 50:48Speaker 6: And this is all part of the seasoning process. Hanging
- 50:52Speaker 6: around with you two guys. You know, I'll steal some
- 50:55Speaker 6: ideas from you. This is a hell of a setup, man.
- 50:57Speaker 6: It's it's about, you know, on the truth, having some fun,
- 51:01Speaker 6: making some people laugh and making them think outside the
- 51:04Speaker 6: box a little bit.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's like getting to have this, like you know,
- 51:07Speaker 1: we were talking about it, either on the locker room
- 51:09Speaker 1: or outside of it. What you miss the most is
- 51:12Speaker 1: the camaraderie. You missed the locker room. Yeah, Unfortunately, we
- 51:14Speaker 1: get to have people on like yourself, players that are
- 51:17Speaker 1: currently playing ex players to where you still kind of
- 51:19Speaker 1: get that feeling that ball busting and having fun having
- 51:22Speaker 1: some laughs because you do. You just you missed the
- 51:25Speaker 1: locker room so much.
- 51:26Speaker 6: When it's over, Oh, it's it's what you what you
- 51:29Speaker 6: can't duplicate, but you guys are doing a pretty good
- 51:31Speaker 6: job of it, you know, just giving guys shit. That's
- 51:34Speaker 6: what I tried to do every day. I tried to
- 51:36Speaker 6: stir the pot.
- 51:37Speaker 10: Man.
- 51:37Speaker 6: I'd come in there one day and try to make
- 51:39Speaker 6: you guys laugh, and I'd go to any extreme measure
- 51:42Speaker 6: I had to go to make you laugh too, because
- 51:44Speaker 6: sometimes you guys are grouchy bastards every day, no doubt,
- 51:46Speaker 6: you know they need Yeah, you gotta make them laugh.
- 51:50Speaker 6: And then the next day I might try to fire
- 51:51Speaker 6: you up, Hey, lu let's you know, you know, and
- 51:54Speaker 6: then the next day you might really try to piss
- 51:56Speaker 6: them off, like I might really try to piss Will compident.
- 51:59Speaker 4: So you got seven shapes of smoke. When you're coming
- 52:00Speaker 4: in to.
- 52:02Speaker 6: Get well, you just don't want to just install twenty
- 52:04Speaker 6: two Hank and here's you know, here's eighteen Bob. After
- 52:08Speaker 6: a while, you know, you get a little bit bored.
- 52:11Speaker 6: You got to try to make it fun and you
- 52:13Speaker 6: try to stimulate your guys, and I think that's when
- 52:16Speaker 6: they play their best.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Who's the best pot starring coach you've been around?
- 52:20Speaker 6: Ray Rhodes. Ray Rhodes was the head coach of the
- 52:23Speaker 6: Eagles when I was the offensive coordinator. He was a
- 52:25Speaker 6: secondary coach of the forty nine ers when it all
- 52:28Speaker 6: started for me. He had Ronnie Lott. He had a
- 52:30Speaker 6: great group back there. He was a combination of Richard Pryor.
- 52:37Speaker 6: He was a comedian and he was a great technician,
- 52:40Speaker 6: a great technical football guy. But he would create analogies.
- 52:44Speaker 6: He would speak in analogies that were awesome, and he
- 52:47Speaker 6: used those analogies in his teaching methods. Ray Rhodes was phenomenal.
- 52:52Speaker 6: One of the great coaches I've ever been around.
- 52:55Speaker 1: What about motivator?
- 52:57Speaker 6: Yeah, motivation? Motivation. Uh, I'd be a hard one. I'd
- 53:02Speaker 6: have to think about that for a minute. But I've
- 53:04Speaker 6: been around some good ones. About you, who's the best
- 53:07Speaker 6: motivator you've been around?
- 53:09Speaker 1: But I mean, Bo Polini was a hell of a motivator,
- 53:12Speaker 1: I bet dude. Honestly, Like I've told Taylor this, I
- 53:15Speaker 1: don't know if I've said it on the bus, but
- 53:17Speaker 1: you are a hell of a motivator. I mean when
- 53:20Speaker 1: you're what was that When I came out there, it
- 53:21Speaker 1: was like my seventh year and you're a veteran, You're
- 53:24Speaker 1: coming out midyear, and usually like when you're a VET
- 53:26Speaker 1: and you've you've had some years in the league, you've
- 53:28Speaker 1: heard everybody speak, you've heard all the speeches and everything else.
- 53:31Speaker 1: But I remember you just had us after a practice
- 53:33Speaker 1: one day and it was getting my piss hot, and
- 53:36Speaker 1: it was like one of those things. You're like, Yo,
- 53:37Speaker 1: this is the fucking you hear all this stuff about
- 53:39Speaker 1: John Gruden and everything else. Now I get to play
- 53:41Speaker 1: for him, and you walk away from just that post
- 53:45Speaker 1: meeting motivational Talkie gave, and it is It's one of
- 53:48Speaker 1: those things because then coaches try to do it and
- 53:50Speaker 1: it's like you understand what they're trying to do, but
- 53:52Speaker 1: it's not like it's not getting you fired up or
- 53:54Speaker 1: it's not making you think. You're like, oh, I wonder
- 53:56Speaker 1: what I wonder what Taylor thought about this speech? You
- 53:58Speaker 1: kind of go and laugh about it. But you were
- 54:00Speaker 1: somebody that always felt like you had the right words,
- 54:03Speaker 1: the right tone, the right time, And so I would say,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I would say yourself, coach Vrabel, he can get going. Uh.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Your brother was more of a matter of fact, yeah,
- 54:13Speaker 4: but expressing to you like the keys to the game.
- 54:18Speaker 4: But in a way they were like fuck af we just.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Do these three four things we're going to And the
- 54:22Speaker 1: night before a game, when he'd start running a highlight table,
- 54:25Speaker 1: like you tell us they're talking about us this way,
- 54:27Speaker 1: they're talking about us that way. Tell me we can't
- 54:29Speaker 1: block on the edge, Tell me we can't make plays
- 54:31Speaker 1: in space, tell me we're not You know all those
- 54:33Speaker 1: different things they get that would get you fired up.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Your brother, he was more of a he was more
- 54:37Speaker 1: of a comedian.
- 54:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:38Speaker 1: He would take some like rap lyrics or song lyrics
- 54:40Speaker 1: and bring it out and we'd like have fun. Jay's awesome.
- 54:42Speaker 6: You know a lot of times, let's the assistant coaches.
- 54:45Speaker 6: I remember when I was in Tampa. We all know
- 54:47Speaker 6: Mike Tomlin now is the head coach. He's a great motivator.
- 54:50Speaker 6: You should hear him in the room with his secondary guys.
- 54:52Speaker 6: When I was coaching for the Bucks. He was a
- 54:54Speaker 6: great motive. But Rond Barber, John Lynch, he had those
- 54:58Speaker 6: guys frothing at the mouth. Rod Marinelli, our d line coach, Yeah,
- 55:02Speaker 6: was phenomenal. Some of my really you know, bad words
- 55:06Speaker 6: I learned I learned from Marinelli. Al Davis was a
- 55:09Speaker 6: great motivator and he used any method to get you
- 55:12Speaker 6: fired up.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Massacia Casatia is good.
- 55:15Speaker 6: I think you try to hire guys that can handle
- 55:18Speaker 6: their players. I hate assistant coaches that come into your Hey,
- 55:21Speaker 6: we Taylor Duwan was three minutes late. Hey, Will Compton
- 55:26Speaker 6: wasn't paying attention in the meeting room. We get them
- 55:28Speaker 6: to pay attention. You know, that's your job, you know
- 55:31Speaker 6: what I mean. I like coaches that can run the
- 55:34Speaker 6: show and really get these guys charged up in their
- 55:37Speaker 6: in their own individual worlds.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Yeah, when it came to coaching and you're talking about
- 55:41Speaker 4: like one day you would try to make guys laugh,
- 55:42Speaker 4: then motivate, then piss them off. What like, how did
- 55:46Speaker 4: you learn that I need to go about these different
- 55:48Speaker 4: ways to motivate different players? Like, was that something you
- 55:51Speaker 4: knew right away as a coach by watching your dad
- 55:53Speaker 4: or is that something you gained over time?
- 55:55Speaker 6: Well, pretty much you're not when you're the head coach.
- 55:57Speaker 6: You're not just motivating the left tackle going into a
- 56:00Speaker 6: team meeting to motivate the quarterback or the wide receiver.
- 56:03Speaker 6: You're trying to get everybody on a common thread. Everybody's
- 56:09Speaker 6: got to see this together. And you know, I just
- 56:13Speaker 6: think the more camaraderie you can generate the better chance
- 56:17Speaker 6: you have. It's a long season, and I think it's
- 56:19Speaker 6: it's important to laugh at each other, you know, get
- 56:22Speaker 6: guys up there, have them talk for a minute or
- 56:25Speaker 6: two balls, bust each other's balls, including your own. And
- 56:29Speaker 6: that worked for me for a while, but I think
- 56:31Speaker 6: I pissed some people off, and unfortunately that's the way
- 56:34Speaker 6: it goes.
- 56:35Speaker 1: When now talk about talk about you pivoting throughout your
- 56:40Speaker 1: career because the game is a lot different now you're
- 56:42Speaker 1: busting our balls. You guys are much more sensitive these days.
- 56:44Speaker 1: We had we had Mike Alstott on the bus and
- 56:46Speaker 1: he's talking about how soft the league is now, Like,
- 56:49Speaker 1: how have you had to kind of adapt your philosophies
- 56:51Speaker 1: over time?
- 56:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I did Monday night football for nine
- 56:54Speaker 6: years and during those nine years I got away from
- 56:58Speaker 6: the players associate. How practices have changed. You know, you
- 57:02Speaker 6: can't hit the quarterback below the leg. A lot of
- 57:05Speaker 6: different rules have come in. Players safety big issue, but
- 57:09Speaker 6: the big thing is coming back and coaching. You have
- 57:13Speaker 6: to adapt to the rules, but you still have to
- 57:16Speaker 6: push the envelope. You got to create repetitions. Repetitions the
- 57:20Speaker 6: mother are learning, whether it be walkedthroughs, whatever it is.
- 57:24Speaker 6: We have to develop players, and you guys will admit
- 57:27Speaker 6: these college kids coming out, they are not as far
- 57:30Speaker 6: along as people think they are. A lot of these
- 57:33Speaker 6: guys are transferring year to year. They're only one year starters.
- 57:38Speaker 6: They're really raw and you need time to spend with them.
- 57:40Speaker 6: But you got to push the envelope. You got to
- 57:42Speaker 6: adapt to the circumstances that are laid out for you ahead.
- 57:46Speaker 4: Well know, we were talking about the transfer and the
- 57:48Speaker 4: NI on the last episode of Busting with the Boys,
- 57:50Speaker 4: how it's it's got to be so difficult as a
- 57:53Speaker 4: college coach to go up to a player and be like,
- 57:54Speaker 4: these are the things you need to work on, and
- 57:56Speaker 4: be a little bit harder on them, a little more
- 57:57Speaker 4: tough love on them, because it was like, I'm just
- 57:59Speaker 4: going to go some get paid the same amount. Do
- 58:01Speaker 4: you think there's going to be like a drop in
- 58:04Speaker 4: the talent level in the NFL the next five to
- 58:07Speaker 4: seven years with guys not kind of, because you have
- 58:10Speaker 4: to be forging fire a little bit. When it comes
- 58:11Speaker 4: to college. You have to go through the ship, the
- 58:13Speaker 4: six am winter conditioning type of situations and a lot
- 58:16Speaker 4: of guys are when it gets too difficult now, they'll
- 58:18Speaker 4: just leave. And if they're not pressed to move forward
- 58:20Speaker 4: and grow, they're gonna be a less than player. Do
- 58:23Speaker 4: you think there's gonna be a you'll see toughness, yeah,
- 58:26Speaker 4: raw without mental tough Well, well we.
- 58:27Speaker 6: Just said the thing I think is the key ingredient
- 58:30Speaker 6: in being a pro football player. It's mental toughness. I
- 58:33Speaker 6: don't care where you go, what round, or who you
- 58:35Speaker 6: play for. You're gonna get your ass knocked off in
- 58:38Speaker 6: the NFL and the media is gonna jump on you.
- 58:42Speaker 6: That's just the reality of it. And if you don't
- 58:43Speaker 6: have mental toughness to lean on, you're out. You're gonna
- 58:46Speaker 6: be gone early. But I worry about the state of
- 58:49Speaker 6: college football what we're doing. I mean, these guys are
- 58:52Speaker 6: pulling out of bowl games. Guys are in the nil
- 58:55Speaker 6: portal before the season is over. How would you look
- 58:59Speaker 6: at your teammate if you had a left guard playing
- 59:01Speaker 6: next to ye at Michigan, it's entering the portal before
- 59:03Speaker 6: you play in a bowl game. That would probably piss
- 59:05Speaker 6: you off.
- 59:05Speaker 1: It's hortally the playoff, like the portal's open. Now it's
- 59:08Speaker 1: like these teams are going to try and make a
- 59:10Speaker 1: push to win a national title, and you got guys
- 59:13Speaker 1: kind of flirting with the next girl. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 59:17Speaker 4: It's got to be just because when Will and I
- 59:19Speaker 4: were in college, it was you pick a school, You're
- 59:22Speaker 4: at that school for four years. If you want to transfer,
- 59:24Speaker 4: you to sit out for a year and lose a
- 59:25Speaker 4: year of eligibility. So there's a lot of risk if
- 59:28Speaker 4: you want to make it that dramatic of a change.
- 59:30Speaker 4: So you either, you know, buy in or get the
- 59:33Speaker 4: fuck out. And I could not imagine sitting next to
- 59:36Speaker 4: a left guard or a tight end and blocking with
- 59:39Speaker 4: them while they're like going gonna go to some other school,
- 59:42Speaker 4: whether it's in the SEC or another school in the
- 59:44Speaker 4: Big Ten. That's got to be difficult for players to
- 59:46Speaker 4: deal with.
- 59:46Speaker 1: The worst one would be just knowing a guy's bitching
- 59:48Speaker 1: about the situation and you're trying to go, like win
- 59:50Speaker 1: a football game.
- 59:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like, brother, we're trying to win this game.
- 59:54Speaker 4: That's all matters. And Will and I are a big
- 59:55Speaker 4: drink the kool aid guys like we when we were
- 59:57Speaker 4: playing our sport on our team, it was like living
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: and breathing and dying for that team.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: I really didn't want our scouts to bring in a
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: lot of players that were transferred players, guys that quit
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: at Michigan and went to Notre Dame and went from
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: the I wanted guys that were finishers, that started and
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: finished the job, signed up and executed their mission. Now
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: you're gonna have to adapt to that philosophy. You're gonna
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: have to take some guys that are bouncing around. But
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: I've met with some of these kids that have entered
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: the portal, and a lot of it has to do
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: with their situation. They don't have money, they don't have
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: two parents, they weren't raised with everything given to them,
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: they don't have any money, and all of a sudden,
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: you get somebody offer you seven hundred thousand or six
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: hundred thousand dollars. You can't blame these guys for chasing
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: their dream and improving our family situation.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: And if you never had money before, it's hard to
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: look at seven hundred thousand dollars and say no, I'm
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: gonna hold out and wait. Yeah, there's another train of
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: thought too. It's like, if you've been broke your whole life,
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: what's being broke a couple more years and being a
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: part of something special. Yeah, that's kind of the selling point.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: If you're a Kenny Dillingham from ASU, it's like, listen,
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: we can't offer you all the money in the world,
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: but there's something special going on here and eventually you're
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: gonna make that money. It's just hard, man.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they just need to find a way to not
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: make it free agency all year round.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Yeah, because the coach all recruit.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: You're already recruit your ass off to get the next
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: guys in, but you got to recruit your ass off
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: for the guys that are there, and then these portal
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: situations and opportunities open up, like while you're in the
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: middle of a season. So I just feel like something,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: there's got to be a solution that's gonna come.
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: Well, you guys come from the big time. You guys
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: come from Nebraska, Michigan.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I played at Dayton.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: You know I got friends at coach in the Mid
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: American Conference. This picture yourself at Toledo or Western Michigan
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: or Kent State. You're coaching your ass off. You find
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: these players that aren't five star players, that are maybe
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: one star players. You feed them, you develop them, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: as they become all conference players in the Mid American League,
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: sophomores or juniors. Here comes Nebraska, here comes Michigan. You
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: take all my players, man, and you pay them, and
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: what do I get? You know what I get? I
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: get nothing? Thissses me off man. So the smaller schools
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: are the ones that are getting punched in the mouth.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: And you know that's just part of the program right now.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: The friends and coaches that you know and have are
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: they is like some of their philosophy just recruiting guys
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: about hey, you can be this could be a stepping zone.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I'll get you to the next league.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean recruiting now is it's a totally different deal.
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: You got some guy walking in your office that's managing Hey,
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: I got Taylor Luwe and Will Compton. This guy's represent
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: you to guys and he's telling me, Hey, if you
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: want Luwan and Compton, you got to pay him this
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: and pay him that. And if you pay me, I'll
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: make sure you get these two guys. So now you're
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: dealing out. You're dealing with a lot of variables that
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: has nothing to do with football, and it's a problem.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: It's a problem. That's a good point.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: Did you tweet something yesterday about agency king twenty percent?
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Look, there's there are agencies and I mean you
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: were with CAA, Like, there's agencies where you get like
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: in the NFL, it's bigger contracts, bigger money to where
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: you're paying them one to three percent. And then if
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: you have like a marketing rep, there's there's like a
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: ten to twenty percent cut that they take if they
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: were to get your twist the tea or body armor,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean to be like in a commercial.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: So I understand that there are quality agencies that command
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: ten to twenty percent in total off of you know,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: two three hundred thousand dollars. I understand that the problem
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I have is knowing that you have and you learned
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: about in college, that these runners that take place, like
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you could be represented by coach Gruden. He's your agent,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: he's your agency. I could be somebody that goes to Tennessee,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Nebraska and Michigan just doing my own thing and getting
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: your market understanding. Hey, if Taylor hit the portal, what
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: would he be worth? Four hundred thousand, five hundred thousand,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: six hundred thousand dollars? And then I DM and message
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: you and start to poach and do all these things,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and I know nothing about your situation, your experience anything.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I'm just trying to make a quick buck off you
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: because I know I can get twenty percent if I
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: start dangling these carrots in front of you, Like, hey,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I know you're with him making three hundred thousand, but
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now, I'm feeling the temperature there.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: You can make up to seven hundred thousand if you
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: come with me. And so there's just so many muddy waters.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Nobody's out there, you know, telling all the truth of
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: it all because everybody it's just an open market. The
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: business has got to figure itself out. College football has
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: got to step in and put some parameters somewhere, and guys, unfortunately,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: are gonna have to kids are gonna have to, unfortunately
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: learn the hard way at times. It's gonna have to
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: sort of self out. But that's like the issue I
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: have is knowing that I get it. It's a business.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: It's an open market. We live in a free market.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: We want players to get paid. College Foe makes millions
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: and billions of dollars off this stuff. I understand all that,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: but we know at the same time too, Like we
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: were those players. We were those guys in college and
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: you understand how important development is, how important adversity is,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: how important being forged in the fire is. And maybe
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: you are in a situation where, hey, you should transfer.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: There's a lot of guys that just get the wrong
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: information and bad information and they're getting bad mentoring, or
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: they're getting no mentoring at all. They're just chasing money
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: when it's like, you know you. I just hate to
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: see that happen with kids. I like to see that
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: happen with college football because it hurts the product that
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: ultimately leads into the NFL to where that's you know,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: that becomes a bad product because the fundamentals and technique
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: is off. It's way worse just because of the quality.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: These kids aren't going and choosing football because they want
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: to be great football players. They want to, they think
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: they want to, but then they get be dazzled by
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: money and everything else. And again I understand it. I
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: just hate this wild West that we're living in because
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: it's hard to figure out what this nil world is
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: because nobody really talks about it. Whole lot. There's a
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: lot of shit that goes.
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: On that was really fucking well. I mean that was
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: well said right there.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I mean think about it, like, you know, coach Norvale,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: he's with Colorado State, he was kind of talking on it.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: But coaches can't speak on it too much because you
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: don't know all the legality is going on. You're in
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: with the nil collective, like they have their own stories
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: and drama. Coaches understand what their situation is. Players understand
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: what their situation. It's just it's fucking bizarre right now.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: And as a coach, as a college coach, your whole
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: thing with these young players is eighteen to twenty two
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: year olds is all about limiting distractions. And when we
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: were you know, oh now I was nine to thirteen,
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: you were eight to twelve. Yeah, when you're there in college,
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: then it's it's a game of like limiting distractions with alcohol,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: with assholes and women like that. Those are the those
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: are the big three pillars. Now you're throwing money in
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: the whole thing too, because as a as a player,
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: you're looking at that pot of gold at the end
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: of the of the dark tunnel. But now there's little
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: flickers of lights with a little bag here, a little
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: back there that can get you on the wrong path,
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: and then you don't get fours in the fire, you
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: lose a technique and you become a lesser football player.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: That hurts you in the end that when you're twenty
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: five years old, a couple years in the league, that
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: second contract might not be as good, which would be
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: way more money than you would have ever made in college.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: So it's a it's a whole thing.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I just I just hate the money hungry.
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: It makes it interesting, really interesting. Man is sitting here
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: looking at you two guys on this bus. Man, I
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: mean I've known you guys as players, and I've seen
- 1:06:43Speaker 6: you guys on this bus. And to think that you
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: guys have turned this into I mean an unbelievable deal.
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: I mean, you guys are killing it.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: We go to rept this episode to bring you body armor.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: This episode. We no, no keep it in. We interrupt
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: this episode because this episode is brought to you by

- 1:07:23Speaker 1: hydrate with body armor, and enjoy the rest of this episode.
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: I just I hate to interrupt you guys and change subjects,
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: but this nil kind of rubbs me wrong. But you know,
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: success on the field is one thing, but transition in Like,
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: I just for all the young guys out there, can
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: you just tell me how you transition into this thing
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: right here and have created and reinvented yourselves here. This
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: is pretty freaking cool man.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Yeah, if you want to take the first part of that, yea,
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: because it's a story We've told a lot on the bus.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: But it is just cool.
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: But a lot of players, you know, they get out
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: of football, they kind of search for their next game,
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: their next thing. How did you guys do this?
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Yeah? I speaking for myself. I feel like I was
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: in I was in year six with the Tennessee Titans,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: and you know, Coach, like when I got to play
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: for you, like I cut my teeth into the league
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: with your brother at Washington. And in my situation, if
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: I'm a backup and a special teams guy, I don't
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: want anybody to get hurt. But if I'm gonna get
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: my opportunity. You know, you're gonna need the guy to
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: go down in front of you and then hey, I
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: get to show them what I'm about. I can show
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: them that I can rock the green dot, do all
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: those things. And so when I didn't get that opportunity
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: in my sixth year, I'm kind of sitting there with myself.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: You know, there's things I'm interested in. I know I
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: want to coach, I have interest in, like the real estate.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: You're trying to you're trying to figure out where your
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: curiosities go because at some point the game is going
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: to end. It's going to end sooner than you think.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: It's probably not gonna end on your terms like most guys.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: And so, just knowing that I love podcasting, I end
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: up asking Taylor if he wanted to start a podcast
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: with me. He was all in, and I'm kind of
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: thinking to myself, like, people do make money in this
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: podcasting world. If we could, you know, if we could
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: you know, have the uh, if we're able to spin
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: it and transition and use this as a transitional point,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: like how great would that be? And so for me,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: it was like, all right, I'm going to start a
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: podcast I could play myself out of the league because
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: nobody in the NFL world's really doing it. McAfee retired
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: to go into barstool Media and then the media in general.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: But nobody's really doing it. And I know how coaches
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: and I know how front office and people can feel
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: about players being on a public platform, especially when it's
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: like I'm not. I wasn't in a situation where I'm
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: getting a big second contract like I was going into
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: that offseason knowing I was going to be a ninety
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: man guy having to make a fifty three roster and
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: who wants any of that luggage or extra drama. So
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I'm like, if I play myself out of the league,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: but it's you know, if we're able to transition and
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: create something like you know, then that's just the risk
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that I'll take. Fortunately, I got to continue doing it
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: and being on the podcast, doing the podcast, being on
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: the bus, going to play for you, playing with the
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Tites again, and doing it for a few more years.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: But ultimately for me, it was like, hey, this game
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: is going to end at some point. I need to
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: understand where my interests are, where my curiosity lies, and
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: try to do whatever I can and to have the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: autonomy to do it myself before I have to go, like,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: work for the man, And who knows if I'm working
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: for the man, if it's going to be in the
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: right situation. When you're done playing football, we get catered
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: to our entire lives. The structures there. You get a
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: motivational speech, You understand how tough it is, you want
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: to be forging the fire. You have all those skills
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: to transition. However, you don't get the highs of playing
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: at that elite level of the NFL, right going out
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: there on prime time, winning with the band of brothers.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: And when that gets pulled away, a lot of guys
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: struggle because it's like, where's our next roller coaster? Where's
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: our next high We played on such a high level.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: The logo, even though they tell you, Coach Gruden, you
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: know you guys got to sacrifice for this logo. Everything
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: you guys pour into this, we're doing it for a team, team, team, team.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: The minute the team is you're not on the team anymore.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: That logo isn't calling you back to make sure you
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: get your next job. So it's all about how can
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: we control our situation? And I feel like We've been
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: able to create Bustle with the boys, and it's been
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: incredible because the big thing you miss when you leave
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: is the locker room, right, we've gotten to create something
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: off that. But that's like, that was like my train
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: of thought going into busting with you.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's it's interesting because you kind of see,
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: like Will and I's pass how different they were entering
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: the NFL. Because when I got a scholarship offer in Scottsdale,
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: Arizona for the first time, it's from Utah State. Right
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: then and there, I thought to myself, I'm going to
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: the NFL. Like that is now my my path of
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: life has now is very clear. And as a football
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: player who lives breeze and eats and loves the game
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: of football, you truly think the most audiable death is
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: probably to die in between the hashes, Like that is
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: kind of the way you want to go. You like,
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: you look in the mirror before a game with tears
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: in your eyes and you think, if today is the day.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: I go like, it's a good fucking day and it's
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: time to go out there. So for me, I was
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: always a guy that's like I was never focused on
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: what's next. I was always focused on right now, and
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: it was you know, playing well and getting to the NFL.
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: So I go to Michigan, I become a first round pick,
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: and when Will Compton comes to the Tennessee Titans, I
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: just signed the biggest deal in NFL history for an
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: offensive lineman. To me, everything is going according to plan
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: where I'm not seeing the inevitable end of what every
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: player has to go through. Even if you're Tom Brady
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: who can beat Father Time like you were always going
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: to the game is always gonna walk away from you
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: before you walk away from it. So when Will approaches
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: me about doing a podcast, I'm thinking to myself, dude,
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: like I guess, and I just in my head I
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: canpartmentalize it as like, well, people do real estate, people
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: do stocks, like this is the same thing. It's just
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: an investment. I just happened to be in the public
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: eye and you mentioned it in the locker room. I'm
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: not like your stereotypical office lineman, a scene not heard
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: type of guy. I'm very much seen and very much heard.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: So like it was an opportunity for me to kind
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: of like allow this personality to come out. And it
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: was like you know. To me, I thought like, I
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: don't know what this is gonna be. This might be
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: just a fun little game.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: Guys take a couple of video games in there at home.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: It's like you're coming in.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Yeah, just coming, come and rip in a podcast. And
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: it turned into this and it couldn't have happened at
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: a better time. I remember I bought so the house
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: I live in now. I bought the land and I
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: was building and Will and I walking around the property
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: and it was right, it was like right before the
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: season or right after the season, and it Will was like,
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: this is my last year. I don't want to do
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: it again. I played that game with him for three
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: more years. Every year it was this is my last year.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: I don't want to do it again. And then it
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: was like, you know, maybe they could sneak in and
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: get rid of camp. And then he started playing the game,
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: and so like while we're both still playing in the NFL,
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Bustin's kind of just like chugging along and grow getting
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: more and more followers and people are more.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: We go into our stool.
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: We got a barstool early and often, which you're gonna
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: come to find out, is like the greatest teacher in
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: this world. It's it's that gives you the ability to
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: be yourself unapologetically be yourself the good and the bad,
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: and be everyone be like, that's all right, You're a
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: part of barstool. You can do whatever you want here.
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: And so it is. It's interesting how it all turned out,
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: and you just kind of look back and you're like,
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: it's kind of fucking crazy. Like in my mind, I'm
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: like I kind of just luked into this. I kind
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: of just like fell into meeting Will, and Will wanted
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: to do this and he didn't. He wanted the safety
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: blanket of doing with somebody else.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: And I have read safety chemistry too.
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's beautiful.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Like when you signed the big deal, there's a part
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: in my brain I'm like, well, the team won't be
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: able to touch him because he's the highest paid player
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: on their team. Hey, if I play myself out, I'm
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: just not going to get a phone call again. Yeah,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: it's like, fuck it.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Let's just we knew we had three years of guarantee.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: To do what we want to.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: End up working out.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Yeah, ended up working out for it, ends up calling
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: and I go out to I go out to Oakland, Yeah,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: but you've.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: Bale a lot of transition too when you were going
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: from the NFL into commentating, Like a lot of coaches
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: try to do that. A lot of coaches try to
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: dip their toe into the media space. But you came
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: in and you murdered it. The ability to know what
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: every player's callers they went to, and their mascot and
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: you just talk about guys if you've known them for
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: twenty years. How did how was that transition for you
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: from going from coaching to media.
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: Well, I was a communications major in college. I always
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: wanted to do the news. I always wanted to be
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: a sportscaster. Really, if I wasn't going to coach. Oh,
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: excuse me if you want to answer that.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: To dude, you gotta do yet.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: You kind of want to take that, don't you.
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: No, I'm sorry I didn't turn it off. But Mike
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: Tariko was the key for me. I mean, I got
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: I got fired. I was really humbled. I was really down,
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: and the NFL network called me and asked me to
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: come to the Combine and do some segments covering the combine.
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: Steve mary Yucci's a friend of mine, says, come on,
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: So I got right up to the combine, I said,
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: I can't do it. I was just humiliated. I didn't
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: want to go to the combine and see all my
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: coaching friends after just being fired. I was embarrassed. So
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: Mooch says, come on, let's go. So I ended up
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: doing it, and I guess I did pretty good. And
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: some guys at Monday Night Football saw me and we
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: had a chance to interview. But when I met Turico,
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: long story showed short. He helped me big time. He
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: threw me great fruits that I could hit. He would
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: hit me, you know, and probe me, and he really
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: helped me with my preparation and my confidence. But it
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: was a transition. It was pretty interesting. I really enjoyed
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: the three man booth when we had Jaworski up there,
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: because we would bust each other's balls and it was
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: almost like three guys at a bar watching a football game.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: That's what I felt like. But it was a great trendransition,
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: a lot of fun, and it allowed me to get
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: the tapes, keep studying. We got our quarterback camp going
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: in the spring, which kind of kept me going with
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: the draft and ultimately led to my return to the Raiders.
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: Unfortunately I did last long.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about how hard it was, the transition. You're
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: talking about being embarrassed and humiliated. You are like a
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: you were like a super Bowl winning coach and you
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: were somebody who got traded.
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: Yeah, well that was hard too. But you know, when
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: you get fired, you guys know it is you're eventually
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: even you got cut, it's it. Maybe you decided yourself,
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: but maybe you saw the writing on the wall. At
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: some point somebody says, yeah, you're fired, and it catches you.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: But when I did go back, it was it was
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: a lot different. The world had completely changed. What's really
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: hard is hiring a coaching staff. When you're the head coach,
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: the most important thing you got to do is hire
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: the right coaches. I'm going to call the plays and
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: coach the quarterbacks. That's just how I did it. But
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: you better hire the right defensive staff. You know, you
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: better get the right personnel group around you that sees
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: the vision that you have for the team or vice versa.
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: We have to see it the same way. But that
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: was a big challenge is surrounding yourself with guys that
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: you grew up with. A lot of those guys had
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: their own jobs. They couldn't get out of their contracts.
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: It's a pain in the ass man, getting your network
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: together on the same staff so you can go in
- 1:17:25Speaker 6: and do what you want to do.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: When you are picking out those coaches, you're talking about
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: your buddies. How hard is it to get a phone
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: call from a guy that you may have known for
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: a long time, that you know is not the right
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: person for the job. What's that conversation?
- 1:17:37Speaker 6: Law man? It's hard, you know. You got to say
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: I'm going in another direction, and you lose some friends.
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: It's hard to have a lot of friends, you know.
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: Sometimes you got to turn a guy down. You can't
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: do it. You got a job open, Hey, I need
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: the job. I don't have a job. I need this job,
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: and you got to let them down and sometimes it
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: costs you. But there's a lot of hard lessons and
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: mental toughness that you gotta understand come with being the
- 1:18:02Speaker 6: head coach.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, when you were in media for those nine years,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: was the goal always to get back in the NFL
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: and be a coach.
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: It was initially I thought I'd be right back in
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: doing something right. But the more I got around Tarrico
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: and Jaworski and the Dun Dun Dunt dah. I mean
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: I love that song, man, Yeah, And there was a
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: certain as a kid growing up, I love Monday Night Football.
- 1:18:23Speaker 6: My mom and dad would let me stay up to
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: watch the highlights at halftime, Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford.
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: I felt honored to be on Monday Night Football, but
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: I ultimately knew I had to get back on the sidelines.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: And I still miss it. Man, I still would like
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: to take one more swing. But right now I'm busting
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: with the boys and I'm with Barstool and I'm having fun.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Man, Are you hoping to get back on the sideline?
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: Well, I mean, you know fantasy. I live in fantasy
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: world a little bit. I'm no different than I was
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: when I was eighteen years old. You know, I fantasize
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: about stuff, and I still fantasize about getting a can
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: of whoop ass and going out there with a bunch
- 1:19:01Speaker 6: of guys and just kicking a shit out of some boy.
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: I just like that competitive game day feeling. I just
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: know you can't get that anywhere else.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: Man, the butterflies, the juice. We were a smelling salt guy.
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: No I've never did that. I never had to do that.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: The smelling salts were always It just adds that level
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: of anxiety to a whole new fun level. But dude,
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: when the Jets fired for their head coach, I think
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: it was was it Booger came out and he's like,
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: one name you need to think about right now is
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: John Gruden. And for the last couple of years, your
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: name wasn't really thrown around the whole coaching realm, and
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: all of a sudden, your name is now starting to
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: find its way back into the NFL. When you start
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: to hear that, are you getting phone calls about anything?
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: Or are you just the media is starting to talk
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: and you're letting them do their thing, because that's how
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: everything works. All it takes is one person to say
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: your name and then it's slowly, like a snowball, just
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: starts getting bigger and bigger as it rolls down a hill.
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: Just a few conversations, you know. I think the big
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: thing I'm trying to do right now is coach people
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: that I have the FFCA, I have a you have
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: an office, I have my own I got my video tapes,
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: and I'm obsessed with it. We have a lot of coaches,
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: a lot of players. Uh, just different coaching staffs that
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: have come in and we study football, and I really
- 1:20:13Speaker 6: am getting my fix doing that. I really don't need
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: this nil stuff. I would I would give me a
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: heart attack.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: Would you coach college?
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: You know I might if it was a big program
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: with a lot of nil money, because I'd buy a
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: lot of players, and I guarantee I could walk across
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: when we play Nebraska. You know what I'd do after
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: the game, I'd go find the two or three guys
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: that aren't playing a lot that I like. I'd say,
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: you know what, you got to get your ass out
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: of here, come play. I would do a good job
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: of that. I can see my snake. But now I'm wired.
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: I just I just am not wired. Like they're doing
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: business now in college. I can't deal with a lot
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: of this financial you know, paying you a million dollars
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: in the weak side linebacker gets a hundred or this
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: guy here, this guy gets nothing. I just have a
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: hard time. I'm with the salary structure and the whole
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: overall operation.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: But that's just me.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: When you see a guy like Bill Belichick with the
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: resume that he has, looking at UNC. Is it confirmed now?
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: Is he now the Tar Hills head coach?
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: He's willing to coach at the time we're recording this.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: The post that I saw was like the North Carolina
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Tar Hills they would know their decision within twenty four hours.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: With Bill Belichick coaching now in college? Like, what's your
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: thought process? Seeing that?
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: I'm not really shocked as many people are. I think
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: he's got a son who's a very good young coach.
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: The opportunity to maybe bring your son with you at
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: Chapel Hill, Chapel You guys have been.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: At Chapel Hill.
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: There's a lot of good stuff there. Man to go
- 1:21:43Speaker 6: to Chapel Hill, you know, finish your coaching career with
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: your son. Perhaps get the program back to where people say, wow,
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: we got to play North Carolina and maybe someday have
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: your son take over. Maybe that's something that's in the cards.
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: I don't know. But he's got a new girlfriend. I
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: see that all over the internet. Things don't ever stay
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: the same. You either get better or worse, and I
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: think Belichick might be looking for something a little different.
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: How would you like to live in New England for
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: fifteen years? Girlfriend has some fun kick some ass and
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: be with your son. You know, I think Belichick is
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: capable of doing just about anything in football. He's already
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: done it, and good for him if he chooses to
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: get into the NC. How would you like that? Though,
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: if you're coaching in the ACC, you're at Wake Forest
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: or you're at Duke, you're the Miami Hurricanes, and you
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: open up with Bill Belichick.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: I know, I was impressed how well he's done in
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: the media this year. I did not think you heard,
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: like Gronkowski and Edelman and Brady kind of like chirp
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: about to talk about how bland he is and how
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: he's kind of.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Have to see it for fifteen years.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: Yeah, got to see it, just kind of talking to
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: the media. Now he comes in, he's doing Manning cast,
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: he's on Pat McAfee show, and he does an incredible job.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: Did you expect that?
- 1:22:57Speaker 9: No?
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: I really didn't. But as I said, I I don't
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: know Bill Belichick like a lot of guys do. I
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: don't hang around with the defensive guys. The offensive guys
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: get on this bus. The defensive guys have always been
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: on that bus. But I remember when I was coaching
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: the Raiders, I got a call from Bill and he says, hey,
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: I heard you like bon Jovi. My wife loves we
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: love bon Jovi. I go, yeah, we really do. Like
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: he's playing in San Jose Saturday night. You want to
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: meet him and get two tickets? I say, hell yeah.
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: So I've always been indebted to Bill Belichick. He's a
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: cool guy, man. I mean, he is a really cool guy,
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: and I just think it's exciting at his age to
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: reinvent himself and come back, perhaps as a college coach
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: says a lot about him.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you talk about you have this football facility in Tampa.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: What does your week look like like? When do you
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: wake up? How is your routine on a day to day? Yeah?
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: I got to have a routine, you know, Monday through Sunday.
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: I have to have a routine. I always did as
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: a coach. But Monday, I really like to go in
- 1:23:56Speaker 6: there and look for my grinders, studying and looking at
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: the Sunday the games, the statistics, the playtime percentages, who
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: did what? My tapes really come in Tuesday morning. So
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: Monday I'm kind of you know, getting my boards ready.
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: You know, who really played well in third down? Who
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: had the best scoring game? I want to see those games.
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: How did Russell Wilson throw for four hundred yards? I
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: can't wait till the tape comes in. But I kind
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: of set up my Tuesday film study based on what
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: I see Monday, and then Tuesdays like an all day.
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: That's why it's crazy. I'm here flying out on Tuesday.
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: I couldn't get to my tapes, man, you know. Then
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: Wednesday I try to work on my presentation. I believe,
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: you got to do the preparation. You gotta study the
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: tapes for me to say this guy's playing good. I
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: want to see that he's playing good. If this guy's
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: playing bad you read about I got to see he's struggling,
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: you know. But I do the preparation. Then on Wednesday,
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: I start the presentation, start to send out my boards
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: you know who I like, and I draw all my
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: stuff up. And then Thursday I get into some behind
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: the scenes things. I like to study red zone, just
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: different short yardage things, different running backs, just different things.
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: But I love to study three hard days and then
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: I do like to get out on Friday. If I
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: can't hit the golf.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: Ball, Yeah, what time? Been waking up throughout the week.
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: I get up early, four thirty five o'clock, not like
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: I used to. But my office is right down the street,
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: half a mile from my house.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: So let me just pause you for a second. You
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: said four to thirty five o'clock, now like I used to.
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: What did you used to get up?
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: I see up three o'clock three seventeen every day. Three
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: seventeen was my number?
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Really? Yeah?
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: What time would you go to bed?
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: I go to bed early. I go to bed at
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: nine thirty ten o'clock. I try to be in bed
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: by ten ten, ten o'clock the latest.
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: Said ten ten. That is that's wild?
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: What is that? What are the hours look like when
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: you are the head coach? Are you there till midnight
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: and waking up it? No?
- 1:25:46Speaker 6: I could never do it at night. And I didn't
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: want my coaches to feel like they had to come
- 1:25:51Speaker 6: in at three o'clock or four o'clock. I didn't want
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: them to feel like that at all. But I had
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: to get in there early. Nobody bothering you, nobody's bitching,
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: nobody's phones ringing. I had to focus my concentration on
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: the scripts, you know, the cards you got to draw,
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: the cards, the tip sheets for the quarterbacks and you know,
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: I try to get out when the work is done.
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: You know, I did not want to be in there
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: all night.
- 1:26:14Speaker 10: Now.
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: When I worked for the Raiders, Al Davis was a
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: night guy, so I would be a morning guy and
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: Al would come in at seven o'clock at night. He
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: almost killed me that first year. Finally I said, hey,
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: something's got to give, man.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: I just can't.
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: I can't stay in here till midnight. But that was
- 1:26:29Speaker 6: a tough year. My Al broke me in pretty good man.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: We ended up this episode to bring you sport Clips.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: Are you tired of the waiting game and want to
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: get your haircut? I feel you, dude, But guess what.
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: Sport Clips has a game changing feature on their app
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: called Haircut Tracker. No more awkwardly waiting, awkwardly sitting in
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: the waiting room like a bench player while you watch
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: people get their haircut. The Haircut Tracker will let you
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: cut to the chase, real wait track, real time wait times,
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: and geez and swooping right on time. That was supposed
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: to be a rhyme, and I obviously messed up the rhyme.
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: But if you guys trust me, that's a good rhyme
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: for that fresh cut. It's like having a personal assistant
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: for your hair right in your pocket. So grab your phone,
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: download the app, and always know where you stay at
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: sport Clips. It's a game changer.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Let's get back to this episode, man, I want to
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: talk about I want to talk about the time you
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: recruited me to come back to the Raiders. Yeah, if
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: you can remember, I'll recall it a little bit. So
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I was there the last five games for Oakland. We
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: had fun, like we weren't having the best season, went
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: out on a decent note defensively, and Coach Groom brings
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: me in for an exit meeting, you know, not like
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the nil exit meetings where it's like, hey, you gotta
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: pay me this or I'm not coming back. But he
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: brings me in on an exit meeting.
- 1:27:50Speaker 10: Coach Green's like I need Will Compton back, Like you're
- 1:27:54Speaker 10: not going to be a Hall of Famer, You're not
- 1:27:56Speaker 10: gonna be a pro bowler. I'm sitting there in my
- 1:27:58Speaker 10: head like I mean I'm still playing, and like, yeah,
- 1:28:00Speaker 10: I understand I can't be a I probably won't be
- 1:28:03Speaker 10: a pro bowler, but I can still aspire myself a
- 1:28:06Speaker 10: little bit.
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: Of juice and still could be a pro bowler.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Thought that right, right right, He's like, I want you around.
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: We need more. Will Compton's on the team, and I
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: don't know what's gonna happen in free agency, YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: because I got to play and start like three games
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: there at the end, which I'm thinking in my head
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: when I went out there and I did my workout,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: I was on the squad, I was in the backup,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: all was special teams. I was starting in base that
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: fucking first week. Right, Coach grew comes up. He's like, hey,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: just don't even think out there. Go out there and
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: make plays that fun. I love you, man, that's awesome.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Who would you play first week? The Lions will play
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: the Lions the first week, and uh so I ended
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: up taking over the job finishing out those three games,
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: and so I'm thinking of my head, I thought I
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: was coming out there to kind of finish out my career, like,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: let me go out there. I'll go out on a bang,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: have some fun before the boys, bring some merchandise, promote busting,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: and just have a good time because the stress is
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: off of Like I felt like my career was kind
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: of done after I got injured with the Saints, and
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: so it's like, oh, okay, I get to go out
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: here and play like I'm just gonna go out fun
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: and play finish off playing the game that I started loving.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: And so when I played those three games, I'm thinking
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: in my head like maybe I might get a little
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Maybe I might get a little something I knew. I
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: bought myself a year or two just because I got
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: to play again. I got to have some film. But
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: they're going to recruit me. They pay fifty million dollars
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: to like little ten and Kwaikowski, great linebackers, good linebackers.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: But I'm thinking in my head, like, you know, I
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: thought I might get a little bit of I thought
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I might get a little bit of coin two or three.
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: Yeah, a lot guaranteed money is what he wanted.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone does.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: Every player does.
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: What I'm gonna interest it in, though, is I have
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: this philosophy. It's called RCEE. You should get a hat
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: and put RCEE on it. Recognition Communication execution. I think
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: you got to have it at quarterback. The guy's got
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: to recognize the defense and then communicate the lion call,
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: the audible whatever, And that's gonna lead to high levels
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: of execution. The thing I loved about Will is he
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: could recognize the offense, he could recognize the situation, and
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: he could communicate better than most guys I've seen at linebacker.
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: He was a sharp guy, and that would lead to
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: higher levels of execution. A lot of the yards you
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: see are bullshit yards, bad tackling, bad defensive entry mistakes,
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: a lack of recognition, a lack of communication. And if
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: we can have that piece and a secure piece, that's
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: what I was really after. But you were, let's be
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: honest here, you could come out with that smiley face,
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: with that microphone. You wanted guaranteed money, and I can't
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: blame the guys go out to California and play football.
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:30:33Speaker 6: Vegas.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that was the first year transferring, transitioning to Vegas
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: because they had offered I had a minimum on the
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: table with no signing bonus, which is like the games,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: the game. There was no market for me. So they
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: were in a spot to where it's like, I mean,
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: nothing else is out there for you. We'll offer you this,
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: And you know, I got PG calling me. He's like
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: explaining everything, he's like, and Coach Grud's like, I just
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: want you around. I want to see you. I want
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: them to see you communicate all this stuff. You don't
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: have to practice, you don't have to do this. And
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: I'm thinking to myself, like, I just came out there
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: as a minimum player and proved that I could play
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: like the week of the game, like I can do
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: the same exact thing, and I put where in turn
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: of my body for training camp, right, And I'm telling
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: this always trading camp with you. It was always just yeah,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: it was always training camp. And PG was like, can
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: you call coach Gruden and tell him the same stuff
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: because he's coming in. He's like, how are we signing
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: Prince of Mukamaru and Nelson Aguilar and Will won't come
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: out here to the Raiders. I'm like, yeah, I'll be
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: happy to talk to him. I called coach Coach Gruden
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: and I think he was just finishing a workout. It
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: sounded like he was sweating a little bit. He's like,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Will Compton. He's like, you're harder to sign than Keyshawn Johnson. Man,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: how do we get you out here to the Raiders?
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, yeah, I bet you over Keyshawn Johnson
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: more than a minimum and a Subway gift card and
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: we're like bantering, laughing back and forth, and uh yeah,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: I always loved that story. I couldn't wait to tell
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: my old man because he's always been a massive fan
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: of football in yourself. But that's my like recruiting story
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: with coach Cruden. You're harder to sign than Key Shawn Johnson. Man,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: I'm like, well, fuck, he mean he's getting it. I'm
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: sure paid him some money.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you had some characters in that Raiders team. What
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: was your interactions like with Richie Incognito? Love him, great guy.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: Incognito is out of football, he had the episode with Miami.
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: He's out of the league, and we brought him in
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: for a workout and we have the Cones set up.
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: We got Tom Cable, really good line coach been with
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Seattle a long time. And Incognito comes out and he's
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: listening to Tom Cable tell him what he wants him
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: to do. He wants him to hop basically the first
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: ten yards Karaoka, do a couple other things just to
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: showcase his athleticism and his you know, his whatever. How
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: he can bend and twist. Incognito goes around the thing
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: one time, half speed, and cable goes. I've seen enough. Really,
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: he's a great at Incognito is a really good apt
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: people do with that. He went to Nebraska. He's a
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: little full of shit like Compton, but you know, he
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: has the it factor that we needed. He had the nastiness,
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: he had the he has the Taylor Luwan personality. He's
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: very outgoing. He's not afraid to say something. He'll make
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: you laugh, he'll piss you off. He had everything we
- 1:33:08Speaker 6: needed at Guard and he could pull on the power
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: plays and it just he has a great ability to
- 1:33:14Speaker 6: get out on screens. But I love being around him.
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: He comes to Tampa, we played golf a little bit.
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: He likes my wife. My wife's about this tall, and
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: he's been through a lot in his life. But he's
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: he's he's really a character. We had Vontez Perfect, we
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: had traded for Antonio Brown. They put us on hard knocks.
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: What a collection I was assembly you guys, Yes, I
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: was trying to bring back the old Raiders eighty Raiders.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: You did it. How was it?
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: What was it like having Perfect and Ab on the
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: same team, Because obviously there's a whole thing about CTESPN
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: that AB's doing and you see that hit, that perfect
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: put on ab like was there ever? Did you have
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: to make amends there?
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: I never got around Antonio enough. You know, Antonio showed
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: up on a hot air balloon. He had his feet fried,
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: he had cryo therapy. I never even heard of croywd therapy.
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: And he had an issue with his helmet. He wasn't
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: happy the NFL wouldn't let him wear his helmet. So
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: we really never got him around the guys very much.
- 1:34:12Speaker 6: I didn't have very much interaction with him at all. Really,
- 1:34:15Speaker 6: one of the most frustrating things in my coaching career
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: was not getting him to play for us. We had
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: a mini camp. I tell you, we had a mini
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: camp back in Oakland. He put on a display. He
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: took some of our routes that we like to call lookies.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: I got all these words. He made the routes look
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: better than anybody I've ever seen. His conditioning was sick.
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: If we didn't have a fence around the field, he
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: might have got killed by a car. Because he finishes everything.
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: He'll run one hundred miles an hour. I thought. I
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: went home and got hammered. One night after mini camp.
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: I told my wife and said, We're going to complete
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: every pass. That's how good this guy looked. He was phenomenal,
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: and unfortunately I never got him for one freaking game.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: What's the conversation with Mayok when they're like you like, hey,
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: what's the problem with ab And they're like, doesn't like
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: his helmet? His feet were fried from CROWFD therapy. What
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: are those upstairs conversations like when you're trying to deal
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: with a guy like that.
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: Well, Mike was a new GM too, so a lot
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: of this stuff is his first time and experience.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: It was a rough deal and you're on hard knocks.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: Then he got vontez Berfeckt. But the two of those guys,
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: they they mixed pretty good. They kind of laughed with
- 1:35:20Speaker 6: one another, and Richie was kind of like the third
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: part of the party. Those conversations were great. How you
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: talk about busting with the boys, you should see some
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: of the boys I bust with. But I I always
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: felt this, if you have football character on your team,
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: and we felt our coaching staff. You know, we had
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: Derek Carr, we had some really good veteran players, good
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: football character. Let's bring in some characters. So we bring
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: in Perfick. You know, Perfect really is. He's a great guy,
- 1:35:49Speaker 6: and he's a smart guy. He just knocks the shit
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: out of you. And what's wrong with that? I mean
- 1:35:55Speaker 6: that's my feeling. And uh, I think if you do
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: have the character in play, so you can bring in
- 1:36:00Speaker 6: some characters and have some fun. And Richie Incognito is
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: a great guy. Don't don't don't kid yourself on Perfect either.
- 1:36:07Speaker 6: He's really smart and he's really a hell of a guy.
- 1:36:09Speaker 6: He's misunderstood perhaps by some. And I really enjoyed Antonio Brown.
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: I mean, hell, he he went out with my son.
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: He cut a song. They got a song out there.
- 1:36:19Speaker 6: I'm not even gonna tell you the name.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: We gotta find that song.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Sure will definitely find that thing before day's end.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: And even on Incognito too, like he was he was
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: how old was he? He was like the oldest player
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: of fours and he was a pro. I'm talking about
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: like whenever practice with any at the massage therapists, I'd
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: be coming in the needle and he'd begin done like
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: somebody who like took care of his body around the clock.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: And working out with him in Arizona. He is a
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: guy that like doesn't necessarily look like an athlete, but
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: is truly athletic, Like he has all the pieces of
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: an office line you would want.
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: He's stout too, Incognito, Yeah, I mean, we remember the
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: COVID where you can't have meetings with the players in person,
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: so we would have zoom meetings, so you would see
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: all the players on their little corner. You'd be having
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: an offensive line meeting and you'd see the fifteen offensive line.
- 1:37:07Speaker 6: You have a team meeting, and you could see a
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: lot of the faces. So I remember Incognito one time
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: I took all his clothes off, was walking around in
- 1:37:15Speaker 6: his garage. You know, he just did things that were
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: so off the wall hilarious. Uh, to keep everybody laughing.
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: God bless that guy.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: Killer man.
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: Yeah, he has an aged a bit that face.
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: You got to see him hit a golf ball.
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: He can play. He's an athlete. Is he is an athlete?
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Man, He's the wrong person to get on the bad
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: side with the football field. He was one of those
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: dudes that was a menace on just field goal. I
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: was trying to finish you on field Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I wouldn't want to wouldn't want to deal
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: with that.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: You want to get him going to hopefully you draw
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: a penalty.
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: I wish I was able to play with him. I
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: would I would have loved to play. I think that
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: he was with Buffalo for a minute. There was a
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: little bit of talk about him coming to the Titans,
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: and I was like, man, that'd be awesome to play
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: right next to him for a year.
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: Aggreation this you you played, You played one of the
- 1:38:02Speaker 6: toughest positions. There are, man who who are some of
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: the guys now that play left tackle that you look
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: at and say, he's really good? Who are they?
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: These days?
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: It's easy to say Trent Williams, he's not playing right now.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, Trent to me is I think is the
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: greatest of all time. I think he is from an
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: athletic standpoint, from a strength standpoint understanding, because with the
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: offensive line, like you're playing every single snap of the
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: game and they say to go hard every single play.
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: He is a true understanding of like, if you're the
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: backside on power and you're doing a hinge like you
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: you have a very easy job. You take care of
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: the big gap, you wing out, the end's coming down,
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: you just block him out. Real quick, so he he
- 1:38:40Speaker 4: does a great job of picking and chooses his times
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: to attack in the game. A guy that I like,
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: I love his feet is Lamry Tunzel. I know we
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: talked about Houston having some struggles, but I think his
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: feet or maybe the best feet of it I've ever seen.
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: I think Ronnie Stanley, he's got a poetic movement about
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: him when he's in his past set, he's he's very
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: smooth and a guy that who's who was injured and
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: has now come back and I played with him. Jack
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: Conklin talk about a guy that has zero technique, has
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: zero fundamentals when it comes to playing the position, but
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: just always gets the job done. I like those guys
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: quite a bit.
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: They got a guy in Tampa. I really like this,
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: Tristan Wurfs.
- 1:39:17Speaker 4: Oh my god, yeah, Tristan.
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: He's a power player.
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: Have you seen have you seen the video and he
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: was coming out for the drafts jumping out of the pool.
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: Who can do that?
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: That that type of power is just different. And then
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: we talked about him too. Is Joe al I like
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: Joe Alt quite a bit too, Like a young guy
- 1:39:32Speaker 4: who's found his way on a run heavy offense that
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: I'm a big fan.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: Of and embracing the move. The right tackle. Yeah, because
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: you're talking about that, like you know some guys that
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: he was telling you at the draft he didn't want
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: to play.
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that is that's incredible. It's wild how Iowa gets
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: these offensive lineman, man, I.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: Know, and then white cornerbacks.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: Yeah, the uh and then Micah Beckton was it Mikeah Beckton,
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: That's who we were talking about.
- 1:39:59Speaker 6: Mackay beck the left tackle. He's out of Louisville. He
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: he you know, he goes to New York and the
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: media gets on him and they let him go, and
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: he gets with the right coach and reinvents them, puts
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: him in there right guard.
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: It's it's really important for these the position groups at
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: all times. I'm sure it's important for everywhere, but for
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: an offensive line coach, especially because you got DB's and
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: they're all like, they're not playing as one unit. They
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: all have their own jobs. So might being zoned. So
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: might be a man you're playing two high, one high,
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: and then receivers. You have all your different routes. But
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: with an offensive line, it's like, truly all five guys
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: have to be on the same page. With what everybody's doing.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: That's just such a different job. You need a good
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: offensive line coach to be successful. You gotta have it.
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: Oh my god, that's that's probably the most important higher. Yeah,
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: if you're the head coach, your defensive coordinator, and your
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: line coach, you know you got to you gotta get
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: somebody that can be the sixth man that can play
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: both guards and center, a swing tackle. Those are tough jobs. Man.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: What were those conversations like with the swing guys when
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: you're saying you have a guy like me, was a
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: guy that only played left I couldn't you put me
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: in a right handed stance. I'm as worth as the
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: football player as you'll ever see.
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: Well, I think the good line coach, Well, you're the
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: left tackle. You're you're the highest paid left tack. We're
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: not going to talk about you for a minute. But
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: other guys on the practice field. Bill Callahan was my
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: line coach for a long time. He's currently with the Titans. Yeah,
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: Son's the head coach. But he would go out on
- 1:41:21Speaker 6: the practice field and we'd have Lwan playing right guard.
- 1:41:24Speaker 6: I'm like, Bill, what the hell are you doing?
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:41:27Speaker 6: And then we got Luwan's playing right tackle two days later.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: But my point is he would create your versatility. He
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: would force you to get in a right handed stance,
- 1:41:36Speaker 6: a left handed stance, a two point stance, a four
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: point stance. And I think you have to have a
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: line coach and a backup line coach who studies a
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: play side the backside. It's always on your ass every
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: second of the day. Those are what the great ones do,
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: you know? And I think, as you said, that's a
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: key part of being a great lineman, as who's coaching
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: you With Rabel.
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: Rabel was always a guy that would just find his
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: way into the offensive line room and it would just
- 1:42:02Speaker 4: tell us how to block. I having no idea how
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: to block offensive line. He just like just getting away
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: all you have to do. You don't just position block
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: this guy. Were you ever a guy that would just
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: wander into position groups and just hang out for a
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: little bit.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: Not really. I was pretty much always on the offensive side,
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: you know, but I would try to reach out to
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: the defensive guys later in the week. I always had
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: a lot of respect for our past rushers. You know,
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: we have to have a fourth quarter pass rush or
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: we got no chance That's why I can't wait to
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: see these playoffs Warren sapp Simme and Rice. You have
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: to have guys that can close you out. And that's
- 1:42:35Speaker 6: why I love the forty nine ers if Bosa plays.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: But now without Bosa, without Armstead, they don't have that
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: fourth quarter pass rush.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: That's why the Chiefs can win the Super Bowl every
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: year because they do have a great coach and a
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: great quarterback.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: But they got a.
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: Fourth quarter pass rush man. Yeah, and if you have
- 1:42:50Speaker 6: those three, you have to have those three elements I
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: think to win it. But I was always interested in
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: the game plan of our past rushers. What are you
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: gonna do to Luan? You know, what are you gonna
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: do to Luwan? But as you know, you don't want
- 1:43:01Speaker 6: to be in third and seven. You don't want to
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: have a lot of third days, you know. And when
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: you do get the third and seven, you gotta be
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: careful as a play caller to make sure we have
- 1:43:09Speaker 6: a chip over there. We got somebody nudging the guy
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: quick game screens. You got to do some things to
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: help these guys because in the noise against some of
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: these guys, it's a bitch. It's a hard job.
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: You got You've either got to chip these guys, slide
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: to the most dangerous pass rusher, or have a quarterback
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: that can facilitate and get the ball out quickly. That
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: was one thing. We had Ken Wizzen Hunt for twenty
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: fourteen and fifteen, and Ken was like, this is my offense,
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: but he's been dealing with Philip rivers for the last
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: ten years. So we have Jake Locker and Zach Mettenberger. Eventually,
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: after Jake hurts his thumb and it's all key right
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: and key left, we're doing six man's protections. We're not
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: doing chips ever, and we don't have the quarterback that
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: understands the offense well enough to know where his hots are,
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: where to get the ball out, or where the man
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: side protection is with von Miller on that side. So
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: it was tough Slend for a couple of years. You
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: need those chips, You got to have them play that.
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: You're obsessed with Spider two White Banana. What's the obsession?
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: It's a man. It's a max protection type of situation,
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: a low red type of situation. Why do you love
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: it so much?
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: Andrew Luck? We had Andrew Luck on our show, Gruden's
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: QB camp and David Shaw, the head coach of Stanford,
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: was on my staff in Philly and in Oakland. Well,
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: Stanford runs a lot of Spider two why banana? And
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: I have never met a quarterback coming out of college
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: like Andrew Luck. I mean he had everything six four
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: two forty, he could run and probably the smartest guy
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: I've ever met play the position. So they're running Spider
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: two white banana at Stanford unlike I've ever seen. And
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: I'm just studying getting ready for Andrew Luck, and I'm
- 1:44:42Speaker 6: seeing Spider two wive and asked Spider three wive and
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: ass fight. Guy's putting on a clinic, throwing, throwing, But
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: Spider two, why banana? They must have thrown fifteen touchdowns.
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: I'm not shitting yet. So they're playing USC. Stanford is
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: playing USC big game College football game Day? Is there?
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: Spider two why banana? Is very simple. You hit the
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: fall back in the flat or at the tight end.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: Pops.
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: You might hit the tight end of the corner. You
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: never throw the ball backside on Spider two white banana. Well,
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: Andrew Luck on Spider two wiye Banana against USC throws
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: a pick six, throwing to the backside. He called it
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: a lightning route or something. So as soon as I
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: got to that play, his face got red as a
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: sheet and we busted his balls on that. Yeah, and
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: it just kind of went viral whatever the word is.
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: You guys use you know when something hits with fans,
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: But it was. It was a cool moment and ever
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: since the Spider two white Banana. But it is a
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: hell of a play. If you're running power, if you're
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: running a rock, if you're running Mike alstot a ninety
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: six power and your linebackers are worried about tackling that
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: big sum bitch, watch out. We'll slip it full back
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: into the flat.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Spider two wive Bananas or two. Who are some of
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: the teams right now that are kind of in the
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: middle of the pack that you could see winning the
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: I think Pittsburgh and Baltimore, I think someone's gonna come
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: out of the you know, I still think I still
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: think Pittsburgh's dangerous. I mean, they're leading their division, but
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: when you look at their schedule them in Baltimore, I
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: kind of consider them as the middle of the pack
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: in the AFC's a that's a tough question for me.
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: I really think there's five or six teams that have
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: a chance to win it. I think there's about twenty
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: teams that are getting ready for next year.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you What is your view of the
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: landscape of football right now? The quality of the product.
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: I just think continuity is a big part of winning.
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: When you look at Andy Reid, He's been there, He's
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: done that. He's been in Kansas City, Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh,
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: John Harbaugh and Baltimore. Dan Campbell's been in Detroit, Shanahan.
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: You know. I like the teams that are in the
- 1:46:47Speaker 6: money every year. It just seems to me like have
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: been together the Philadelphia Eagles, Syrian he's been there now
- 1:46:52Speaker 6: a few years. I just think there's a lot of
- 1:46:55Speaker 6: change over now. Teams change coaches, not just head coaches,
- 1:46:59Speaker 6: often the coordinators, defensive coordinators, and I think it's a
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: problem with the development of players. You guys can speak
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: on this when you're a first year player, when you're
- 1:47:09Speaker 6: a rookie, it's an eye opening deal.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: I don't care what round, but when you came back
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: as your second year in the same system, that's when
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: you probably showed your most improvement. But when you keep
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: pulling a rug out of you players, and here's a
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: new snap count, here's a new system, it's a it's
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: a hard deal to get better, don't you think?
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, you're on that like level one learning curve
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: in that first year, and then again when you go
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: into years two, year three, you're looking at them details.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: You're thinking outside the box. You're trying to think more
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: like a coordinator than just your own position. You're thinking
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: about everywhere, everybody else around you have everything moves around you.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: But yeah, when it's a new system, it's like you
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: just want to understand, like what your job is.
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: You understand, right, you understand the bigger picture going into
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: year two as opposed to just your your assignment for
- 1:47:53Speaker 4: your play calling? Was it always the same? Did you
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: always keep the same numbers? You say, ninety six power
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: spider two wide it inage? You always have the same
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: terminol and phrases going from year to year? Did you
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: ever try to switch it.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: Up a little bit?
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: I took a lot of pride in the verbage I
- 1:48:05Speaker 6: learned under Bill Walsh with the forty nine ers, Mike Congrin,
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: we had a lot of words and we became very worthy.
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: But when I was out of football and I came back,
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: we realized that a lot of these players, you know,
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: we got to we got to tighten up our communication
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: so we can pick up a player off the waiver wire,
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: make a trade whatever, and bring you in and fast
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: track you. You don't have time to learn all these crazy
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: words and what they mean. So we did streamline it
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: a little bit, but we still had a lot to
- 1:48:34Speaker 6: say because we had a lot of formations. We had
- 1:48:36Speaker 6: a lot of motions, a lot of personnel groupings. And
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: if you want to have a big airport you want
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: to take flights everywhere, you got to make sure you're organized,
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: you have the ability to do that. I'm just I
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: never liked these teams that line up in trips right
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: and clap their hands and put the ball in play.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: I like multiple looks. If the defense hasn't seen it,
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: they can't prepare for it. It's an illusion of sophistication or
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: just simple and basic plays that start off looking the
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: same that are different. You know, there's some common threads
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: in philosophy I think that you got to have if
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: you're going to be any good at it.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: How much football. Do you feel like you forgot when
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: you were in media for nine years? Terminologies your playbook.
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: I probably didn't much, just because I have my own
- 1:49:18Speaker 6: computer at home, and when I watch the first play
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: of the game, I type in the formation A lot
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: of times, I even type in the front. So now
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: you save your work and I can come back and
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: be my own quality control guy. It's a sick obsessed
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: world of football I live in, and that's why it's
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: kind of cool to get out of it. And it's
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: almost like I'm out of prison or something. I mean,
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: I'm playing golf with these guys and there's a drone
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: flying around me and Trent you're playing. We're playing golf.
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: Frankie's on the other team. We're talking to having a
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: good time. I'm like, is this John Gruden? You know,
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: shouldn't I be in a fucking laboratory study in a
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: red zone offense or something? And now I'm on the
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: bus with you guys. It's really you know, wish ou
- 1:50:00Speaker 6: I've done this ten years ago. It's a lot more fun.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: Man. What can people expect with you at barstool? It
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: seems like you bring back the Gruden football camp.
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: We're going to try to bring back Gruden's QB camp
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: and it won't be the same. It'll be it'll have
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: a little different spice to it. But this Dave Portnoy guy,
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: he's something else. And this big Cat guy, I really
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: like this Big Cat. Yeah, I'm just getting to know them.
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: And I got hired really week eight of the season.
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: So it's hard to just create a show and come on,
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: I mean, you're going to have to put a little
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: time on task and meet with some people. And you know,
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: I'd like to do something with you man, like to
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: do something with you guys. I don't know. Yeah, but
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: I have a creative mind myself and just starting to
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: scratch the surface a little bit. I've got some people
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: out there that send me nasty texts and messages. You know,
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: they help me get better, and I encourage that, you know,
- 1:50:52Speaker 6: I need to help from people. But I really am
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: excited about what could happen because I know the potential is.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah, bro, you're the top of a rocket ship.
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: Like barstool has a way of making you more known
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: than ever.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: Yeah, how'd those conversations go? They've just hit you up like, Hey,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: I got a I got a message on one of
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: those uh you know, I don't know Twitter, tiktoks or whatever. Yeah,
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: my son Mike, who wrote the song Nicy, he's my
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: music man. He says, Hey, Dad, Dave Portnoy reached out
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: to you. So, to make a long story short, my
- 1:51:26Speaker 6: wife was in a ballroom dancing contest in Orlando and
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: Dave flew in to see me and we just had
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: dinner together and talked a little bit. Next thing I know, man,
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: we're I was in Chicago filming something up there, and
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: you know, you walk in you don't realize what's going on.
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: I mean, hell, I'm just a coach. I walk in
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: there and they're filming stuff. Hey what about John Daily?
- 1:51:46Speaker 6: Did you go golf with John Daly? You start talking
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: about it. Next thing you know, it's out there. Everybody
- 1:51:51Speaker 6: knows about the whole day. You know. But it's really
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: fascinating how it works. Yeah, you know, and the the
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: ability that they have to reach so many people on
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: so many different platforms instantly, and they take a lot
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: of pride in it. You know, they want to be
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: really good, which is what I like.
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: Right your Gruden loves football content. I mean since day one,
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: I like I consume it. It's like, all right, I'm
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: trying to hope you you drop stuff before we do
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: the locker room to hear everything you're breaking down, because
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: I remember, I'm like, I'm not thinking it's probably his
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: son running the profile, but he's got the Gruden loves
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: Football Twitter profile and I just DM and I'm like,
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: I need gruden On bustling with and I've already messaged
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: with them, but I'm just having fun with the profile,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: like I need gruden On busting with the boys like
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: I need air. And he responds to me like it's
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: him running the whole Twitter account. He's like, oh, you're
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: a Gruden grinder. Of course I'll come on. And I'm thinking, oh, okay,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I'm just messing with coach Gruden again.
- 1:52:41Speaker 6: Yeah, but you know, when you break a game down.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: What I wanted to do with that is try to
- 1:52:46Speaker 6: take fans into a little bit of the reality of
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: what we go through one hundred percent. If it's the
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: Chargers in the Bucks, Let's start with top of line
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: things you might want to know. I'm here's the injury
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: list right, Here's where they rank statistically, Here's how they
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: play on the road. I mean, there's a lot of
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: things that you got to get your mind straight on
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: before you even get in to the Chargers offense. Let's
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: talk nothing but about Chargers offense. And I wanted the
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: fans to know who the offensive linemen were, who the
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: receivers were, who the running backs were, who the plate
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: caller was. I mean, I spent twenty minutes on a
- 1:53:18Speaker 6: Chargers offense. Here's a couple of schemes they like to run.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: This is the Chargers offense, but they're going up against
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: Tampa's defense. And then you spend twenty minutes on Todd
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: Bowles calls the plays. You know, they got Winfield's hurt,
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: they got Jamal Deane's hurt, and you go into all
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: the matchups and some of the blitzes that Todd Bowles runs.
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: Then he got to do the Chargers defense against the
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: Bucks offense. Next thing you know, it's an hour and
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: fifteen minutes on one game, and people are like, man,
- 1:53:41Speaker 6: fans aren't gonna want to watch all that, but the
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: hardcore fans, oh, bro nutty, people like me like it.
- 1:53:48Speaker 6: Then at the end of the game, they say, at
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: the end of the presentation, they say, well, we got
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: to make a prediction who's gonna win? I said, I
- 1:53:54Speaker 6: don't know who's gonna win. I say, I don't care
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: who wins. Yeah, you know. But then I start picking
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: scores and some of my picks, I'm like, you, guys,
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: I root for a team a little bit. I kind
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: of want so I kind of picked them to win.
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: And it's not some of the gambling people. They get
- 1:54:09Speaker 6: pissed at.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: You.
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: Screw me, man, you gave me all this information.
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: I remember coming to Taylor, I'm like, hey, have you
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: seen this Grudenless football show. I'm like, bro, he runs
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: it like he's low key, like running a team meeting
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: at the top of a week.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: It's incredible, the breakdown of everything. Have you noticed how
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: easy it is to overthink things because it's like you
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: can break down all the film you want, but they're like,
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: all right, who's gonna win? And you're like, well, this
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: team and they're like, well know their defense is this
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: and that. Have you have you ran into that where
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: it's like you get into a point of overthinking it
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:54:39Speaker 6: You can easily overthink it. And I tell you there
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: are some games. Now I'm not a big gambling guy.
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: I'll be honest with you. There are some games I've
- 1:54:47Speaker 6: learned to stay away from. Got no idea what's going
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: to happen in this game, And there are certain games.
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: As I told you guys earlier, I'm going in on
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: this game, you know. And I don't pick the spreads.
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: I would never picked the spreads. And I know you
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: don't make as much money when you pick the money
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: line they call it, but you pick a team to win.
- 1:55:07Speaker 6: I'm pretty good at picking winners. And I don't get
- 1:55:10Speaker 6: involved in a spread. And then my son says, we
- 1:55:12Speaker 6: don't get anybody if you pick the money line. Well,
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: if you pick two money lines, you know.
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: You got a little barley.
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm learning. Anyways, I'm I'm I'm learning and I'm
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: loving it. And this is really cool, this operation. I
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: would not have expected anything less from you two guys.
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: And I tell you, I don't know where you guys
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: are going with the future. There's a lot of rumors
- 1:55:36Speaker 6: about where you two guys are heading.
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: Hopefully all yeah, hopefully nice chatter.
- 1:55:40Speaker 6: It is very nice.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: I gotta I got a couple of fun questions for
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: you written up our boys, Sherman the back.

- 1:57:02Speaker 1: Back the episode, Let's say you're running a fantasy football league,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: but the teams are made up of only coaches. Which
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: coach are you drafting first?
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: First overall pick?
- 1:57:14Speaker 6: I take Andy Reid. Is Andy Reid. He can call
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: the plays and he can coach the quarterback. Man.
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: That's a good pick. Yes, everybody's gonna fault you there.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: If you could only watch one NFL game on repeat
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: for the rest of your life, which game are you
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: one NFL game?
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: It would be the millennium game Raiders versus Chiefs. The
- 1:57:33Speaker 6: calendar just kicked over to two thousand. I was in
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: my second year coaching the Raiders. I was going to
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: get fired. We were seven and eight. We're playing at
- 1:57:42Speaker 6: the Chiefs. All the Chiefs need to do is win
- 1:57:44Speaker 6: this game. Beat the Raiders, who they beaten one hundred
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: times in a row and they win the division, get
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: a home playoff game. We're down seventeen zip after about
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: six minutes and this place is rocking. Man, my boy
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: rich Gannon got pissed off and shred him. We beat
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: him thirty eight thirty five in overtime. Check that game out.
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: Raiders at the Chiefs two thousand, last.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: Game of the year.
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: Hey, just he knew it off the top too.
- 1:58:10Speaker 6: We busted him, good man. I was dancing on the field.
- 1:58:14Speaker 6: Probably saved my job that day too.
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: Yeah, guy's got to be a great feeling and go home,
- 1:58:19Speaker 4: crack up in a nice drink.
- 1:58:21Speaker 6: What what's your favorite memory on the grid iron? Just
- 1:58:25Speaker 6: get one.
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: Twenty nineteen playoffs AFC Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens.
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: They were the one seed. We had to win five
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: of six just to make it into the playoffs. We
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: play against the New England Patriots and the dynasty for
- 1:58:38Speaker 4: Tom Brady was his last game as a Patriot, and
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: we go in against the Ravens. It was Lamar Jackson's
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: first MVP in Baltimore. The Bank was as loud of
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: a stadium as I've ever heard of my entire life.
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: And we owned him.
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: Like I that is my favorite game from a blocking standpoint. Ever,
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: they had eight guys in the box from ran Wanda,
- 1:58:59Speaker 4: which is open side outside zone, and we blocked him
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: and Derek ran it for like forty yards. It just
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: felt like everything we did it was we were gonna
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: get at least four yards.
- 1:59:09Speaker 6: Guy, he's sitting up like.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: We had a turnover. We had a turnover in that game.
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: I think Jeroe Casey got a strip stripsack fumble that
- 1:59:17Speaker 4: was picked up by Harold Landry. That player on like
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: the forty six yard line going in and we call
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: Lucy x pile on y x pile on post and
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: it's Kleief Raymond. He's like four or five yards past
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: the dB and we score a touch on the next
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: play and it's just like that cool, We're gonna beat
- 1:59:34Speaker 4: the That's just thanks.
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: See.
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: That's the one thing I've learned about being in social
- 1:59:38Speaker 6: media is I like to discover like great plays. I
- 1:59:42Speaker 6: like to go back and show you some of the
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: memories of other players. I have tape in my office
- 1:59:46Speaker 6: of Lawrence Taylor. I got Eric Dickerson ronning with that
- 1:59:49Speaker 6: high form. But you can't show you can't really show
- 1:59:52Speaker 6: the video. You don't have rights to the video to
- 1:59:55Speaker 6: use all the time you see, So you gotta, you know,
- 1:59:58Speaker 6: you gotta creative find ways to make your point. But
- 2:00:01Speaker 6: I would love to see that game.
- 2:00:03Speaker 4: It's awesome.
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: Here's yeah.
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: I can go on all day by that game. That
- 2:00:06Speaker 4: game was awesome. The blocking was incredible. We had five
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: guys doing everything right every single play. It was unbelievable.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: It's hard to think about mine. I feel like it's
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: more you just get pissed off that you lost, like
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: when we lost the Green Bay in the walladcard round
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: when we ended up winning the division. Probably the most
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: fun game and most fun memories when we clinched the
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: division at Philly right around Christmas, went out there. That
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: was the dad game, my only career sack on Sam Bradford.
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: But we beat their ass and we came back and
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: just the city, the town was packed in Ashbourne, Virginia,
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: like you were just going one two miles an hour
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: driving out of the facility because fans were so excited.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: It was such a moment that you know, that was
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: like do you like that year Kirk Cousins kind of
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: making his run. We're kind of a bad football team
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: and we'd win one, lose one, try to string a
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: couple together, and we ended up winning the division that year.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: In the NFC. Least they called it, but I would
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: say that game is probably the most memorable fun game
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: as far as moments go. Probably when I got I
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: got to start against the New Orleans Saints we played
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: the week before at New England. We got our ass kicked,
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: but I made a few good plays. I think I
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: had like eight tackles, and they made the switch to
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: make me the mic, the mic backer, and I remember
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: kerk Olividadi, he pulled me right into the office before
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: we went into the defensive room to have to have
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: a defensive meeting to start breaking down the Saints. He
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: pulled me in and he whispered, you got the keys,
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: make me right and just dap me up. And I'm like,
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: oh shit, we're rolling like I'm active, like I get
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: to play now. And so we end up beating the
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: Saints ass bro And the paper that one of the
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: papers is next week was like, you know, r W
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: a Redskins with attitude, and I, you know, I was
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: spotlighted in it. Had a really good game, and that
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: was Probably the most memorable moment was when I got
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: to ultimately like take over the job in Washington, because
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: you know, you just you bust your ass to getting
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: all the situations that you're in. The year before that,
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: there was like, you know, that's when I got to
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: play against you guys the delaying game and I had
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: a little run there because somebody had gotten hurt to
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: where I accumulated some tackles. But then you just start
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: to get noticed. The next year, it's like, hey, are
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: you gonna take this guy's job? You have a couple
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: of injuries, you don't get the opportunity to take it.
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: Then in the middle of the year as it unfold,
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: similar to the Oakland year where you just ended up
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: getting an opportunity and you just don't look back. Like
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: those are those are more of like my memorable times
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: What was the least favorite game ever?
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: Good question?
- 2:02:27Speaker 6: The tuck rule was bad.
- 2:02:28Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know. I forgot that. I forgot the Yeah,
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: because there he did walk through, you know, take it
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: at his facility and he goes in the bathroom on
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: the shitter and he's got the photo sitting up and
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: it's the tuck rule photo.
- 2:02:43Speaker 6: You know, we played the AFC Championship game when I
- 2:02:45Speaker 6: was coaching the Raiders against Baltimore, and I don't know
- 2:02:49Speaker 6: if you remember, but Sarah Gousa killed our quarterback. We
- 2:02:53Speaker 6: don't get a personal file, we don't get anything. It
- 2:02:56Speaker 6: really pissed me off in that game too. But the
- 2:02:58Speaker 6: tuck rule, you know, instant replay is designed to only
- 2:03:03Speaker 6: overturn a play. That's completely what obvious right to lose
- 2:03:08Speaker 6: a game like that. Think of Steve Wisnowski, He's nine
- 2:03:11Speaker 6: Pro Bowls, William Thomas, Eric Allen, these are great NFL players.
- 2:03:16Speaker 6: That's the last game they ever played. You know, we
- 2:03:19Speaker 6: got we got a chance to go to the Super Bowl.
- 2:03:21Speaker 6: That's what kind of team we had. And I can
- 2:03:24Speaker 6: see Belichick taking his headset off, their whole stab. Brady's
- 2:03:28Speaker 6: walking off the field. You can interview any of them.
- 2:03:30Speaker 6: They knew that game was over. Yeah, And the only
- 2:03:33Speaker 6: thing wrong with the tuck rule is they spelled it wrong.
- 2:03:36Speaker 6: It's really not a t it's another consonant it's supposed
- 2:03:39Speaker 6: to be.
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: That's what They don't.
- 2:03:41Speaker 6: Even have the rule anymore.
- 2:03:42Speaker 4: That's how bad it is.
- 2:03:43Speaker 1: God the biggest rival coach out there. We're just like,
- 2:03:47Speaker 1: I want to get his ass. Whether you guys went
- 2:03:50Speaker 1: back and forth to.
- 2:03:50Speaker 6: Or they had to be Andy. You know, had to
- 2:03:52Speaker 6: be Andy Reid, you know, because we were on the
- 2:03:54Speaker 6: same staff. We're on Mike Holmgrean's staff in Green Bay.
- 2:03:58Speaker 6: You guys love this. So Andy played for Mike Holmgren
- 2:04:01Speaker 6: at BYU, so he was kind of the teacher's pet,
- 2:04:04Speaker 6: you know. Yeah, I don't know, I love So we
- 2:04:07Speaker 6: had this big board, me and Mary Ucci and Andy
- 2:04:09Speaker 6: Reid were young coaches at the time, and we would
- 2:04:12Speaker 6: put the plays on the board with the formations and
- 2:04:15Speaker 6: these are the plays that we think should be in
- 2:04:17Speaker 6: the game plan, and Homegroom would be doing his thing.
- 2:04:19Speaker 6: He'd come in. He'd sit there and look at the
- 2:04:21Speaker 6: board and in a different color would be a new play.
- 2:04:25Speaker 6: And homegrown was always he was always whose play is that,
- 2:04:29Speaker 6: Andy goes, that's my play. That's sixty nine handoff solid.
- 2:04:32Speaker 6: You get on the board and draw it. Mike would
- 2:04:34Speaker 6: put it in and Andy would like look at me
- 2:04:35Speaker 6: and moods like I'm smarter than you.
- 2:04:38Speaker 4: Gain Yeah.
- 2:04:39Speaker 6: So Andy would get a play in the game plan.
- 2:04:41Speaker 6: It would be called and he gains six yards or
- 2:04:44Speaker 6: a gain eight yards and Andy walk around the office
- 2:04:46Speaker 6: all week. I guess, bitch, So now we're not playing good.
- 2:04:53Speaker 6: We just signed Reggie White in free agency, we got
- 2:04:56Speaker 6: we got Brett Farr playing again, we got Sterling Sharp,
- 2:04:59Speaker 6: we got a hell of the team, and we're not
- 2:05:00Speaker 6: playing it. We're like two and three and people are
- 2:05:03Speaker 6: starting to get on Holmegren's ass a little bit. You
- 2:05:05Speaker 6: know what I mean, what's wrong with you guys? So
- 2:05:07Speaker 6: we go into the room. There's all the plays and
- 2:05:09Speaker 6: there's this play called Fox three full back slide fifty eight.
- 2:05:13Speaker 6: All go z search Homegrin's like, what are those plays?
- 2:05:17Speaker 6: I go, those are my two plays? And I had
- 2:05:18Speaker 6: to cut up and I well, you don't like our place?
- 2:05:21Speaker 4: Is that what your problem is? You don't want to run?
- 2:05:23Speaker 6: He was on my ass, like yelling at me. My fuck.
- 2:05:26Speaker 6: So we go play the Bears on Halloween night. You
- 2:05:28Speaker 6: can go back and watch this game.
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: Now.
- 2:05:30Speaker 6: It's pouring down rain, the worst night in the history
- 2:05:32Speaker 6: of football. Third and two. Early in the game home,
- 2:05:35Speaker 6: Grin calls red left fake Fox three naked right full
- 2:05:38Speaker 6: back slide. I swear to god, Brett Favre kept it.
- 2:05:42Speaker 6: Runs it in longest touchdown run of his career thirty
- 2:05:44Speaker 6: six yards on Monday Night football. I'm on the sidelines.
- 2:05:47Speaker 6: I'm not saying anything, but I'm like, God damn, that's
- 2:05:49Speaker 6: my play.
- 2:05:52Speaker 4: So listen late, this is true.
- 2:05:55Speaker 6: Late in the game, we just need a first down
- 2:05:57Speaker 6: of games over and it's like third and fourteen, and
- 2:06:00Speaker 6: I had seen Dan Marino running all go with a
- 2:06:03Speaker 6: little search route. The guy acted like he was running
- 2:06:05Speaker 6: a scene, but he would throw his shoulders down and uncover.
- 2:06:08Speaker 6: And I put that play in and Sterling Sharp ran
- 2:06:11Speaker 6: it better than Mark Clayton, and Mark duper ever ran
- 2:06:14Speaker 6: it far up through it like a twenty three yard
- 2:06:16Speaker 6: game to icy game. That's my plate too. So we
- 2:06:19Speaker 6: get on the plane and back. Then they give you
- 2:06:22Speaker 6: a little bag with two beers in it, and Holmer
- 2:06:24Speaker 6: is sitting in the front with Ron Wolf the GM
- 2:06:26Speaker 6: and I'm in the back. I'll never forget this. I
- 2:06:28Speaker 6: got my beer and I'm drinking it. I'm thinking, God damn,
- 2:06:31Speaker 6: that was the greatest day of my life. Holger turns around,
- 2:06:34Speaker 6: he goes Hey, Grueber calls me, Gruber, Hey, Grueber, come
- 2:06:36Speaker 6: down here. I walk down and fucking think I sit
- 2:06:40Speaker 6: next to him, he goes game ball.
- 2:06:43Speaker 4: Hell of a job.
- 2:06:44Speaker 6: I turn around. I walked back to my seat. I
- 2:06:47Speaker 6: see Andy Reid and I go game ball.
- 2:06:52Speaker 4: I love competing with Ady Reid.
- 2:06:53Speaker 6: And then when we competed against each other and he
- 2:06:56Speaker 6: was in Philly, I was in Oakland or Kansas City.
- 2:06:59Speaker 6: I mean, I just used to love seeing them. And
- 2:07:04Speaker 6: I love you Christmas and God bless you.
- 2:07:10Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:07:10Speaker 6: If I can ever do anything, if I ever come
- 2:07:13Speaker 6: back and coach, you'll be my left tackle.
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: Let's fucking go.
- 2:07:16Speaker 4: You have a bad You're not getting.
- 2:07:17Speaker 6: A guaranteed contract, though you're getting.
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: A ship it.
- 2:07:22Speaker 6: You're getting a minimum salary benefit. And no one said it,
- 2:07:25Speaker 6: but you coach for you. I gotta have a left tackle.
- 2:07:28Speaker 1: I love it.
- 2:07:29Speaker 4: Before before you go, I do want to play a
- 2:07:30Speaker 4: game of crystal ball with you. Okay, Of all the
- 2:07:33Speaker 4: coaching positions that might be open this year, it might
- 2:07:36Speaker 4: be the Dallas Cowboys. We know the Jets, we know
- 2:07:38Speaker 4: the Bears. Where do you think you would fit in best?
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: Oh?
- 2:07:42Speaker 6: I have no idea that puts me on the spot.
- 2:07:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right, that's a tough one. We'll cut it.
- 2:07:47Speaker 4: Guess what cut Hey appreciate you coming on, man.
- 2:07:50Speaker 6: I do think the Bears with that young quarterback is interesting.
- 2:07:54Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:07:54Speaker 6: I like their defense too. Man, have you seen him play?
- 2:07:56Speaker 6: I got some guys on Edwards. I mean, he's a
- 2:08:01Speaker 6: hell of a player. They got some linebackers that can run.
- 2:08:04Speaker 6: When they lost Jakwan Brisker, they lost a key member
- 2:08:08Speaker 6: of that secondary, but they got corners. They do have
- 2:08:11Speaker 6: some pass rushers. They got some receivers.
- 2:08:13Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:08:14Speaker 6: Yeah, they got a quarterback. I like this kid.
- 2:08:16Speaker 1: Man, got you a.
- 2:08:17Speaker 6: Nice Minnesota might look out on Monday night.
- 2:08:21Speaker 1: These guys.
- 2:08:21Speaker 6: This quarterback is interesting, man. I love It's got me
- 2:08:25Speaker 6: feeling nicey.

- 2:08:50Speaker 4: keep it twisted, Grab a refreshing twisted tea today. Let's
- 2:08:54Speaker 4: hear that twisted question for John Green.
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: Twisted question. You are down? You were down a point
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: two seconds left. It's fourth and twenty from the thirty
- 2:09:02Speaker 1: five yard line. But your kicker broke his foot. What's
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: the play call? Shit?
- 2:09:09Speaker 6: Thanks a lot. I'll go tandem right seventy six rebound pass.
- 2:09:15Speaker 6: I'll throw a hail Mary up there. I'll isolate my
- 2:09:18Speaker 6: best receiver. If they play one on one over there,
- 2:09:20Speaker 6: I'll throw it to him. If not, I'll take I'll
- 2:09:22Speaker 6: pop it up into the end zone.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: Touchdown.
- 2:09:25Speaker 6: Love it because you ever see guys throw hail mary's
- 2:09:28Speaker 6: in the ball lands off the field of play. I
- 2:09:32Speaker 6: want to make this point before I leave. Have you
- 2:09:34Speaker 6: ever seen this shit where the I'm talking to hail
- 2:09:37Speaker 6: mary okay, and the ball lands off of the field
- 2:09:41Speaker 6: of play. Have you ever seen that?
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:09:43Speaker 6: You asked, yes, Why do you think that is?
- 2:09:48Speaker 4: They're scared?
- 2:09:49Speaker 6: Why do you think it is?
- 2:09:51Speaker 4: It's the QB.
- 2:09:52Speaker 6: Rating man, They don't want to throw interceptions.
- 2:09:55Speaker 4: Oh, you think it's an ego thing.
- 2:09:57Speaker 6: I know it is. It has to be. These are
- 2:09:58Speaker 6: the greatest passers in the world. You mean to tell
- 2:10:02Speaker 6: me on a hail Mary, you can't put the ball
- 2:10:04Speaker 6: on the field to play. Seriously, you can throw the
- 2:10:07Speaker 6: ball in that tight window that big, you can sizzle
- 2:10:10Speaker 6: it in there off platform into a window that big,
- 2:10:13Speaker 6: but on the last play of the game, you can't
- 2:10:14Speaker 6: keep the ball on the playing field. Let me tell you.
- 2:10:17Speaker 6: When you see that, you know you're dealing with somebody
- 2:10:20Speaker 6: that's interested in his QB rating. I keep an eye
- 2:10:24Speaker 6: on that. I will, I will what last saying. I'll
- 2:10:28Speaker 6: tell you. I learned this from Reggie White. Do you
- 2:10:31Speaker 6: know tackles for loss and sack is a big way
- 2:10:34Speaker 6: these guys get paid, right, Yeah, So back in the day,
- 2:10:37Speaker 6: Reggie White told me this a long time ago. They're
- 2:10:39Speaker 6: playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and the quarterback takes a knee.
- 2:10:43Speaker 6: Reggie White, Clyde Simmons. He told me those guys would
- 2:10:47Speaker 6: go flying in there to touch the quarterback to get
- 2:10:49Speaker 6: credit for a TfL. And now that rule, I guess
- 2:10:53Speaker 6: has changed too. But I'm interested in You know, two
- 2:10:57Speaker 6: seconds left in the half, you're in a prevent defense
- 2:11:00Speaker 6: and somebody runs a draw play for sixteen yards. You
- 2:11:04Speaker 6: know those. That's why statistics you gotta be really careful
- 2:11:07Speaker 6: when you look at them.
- 2:11:08Speaker 4: Man, I love that knowledge. Yeah, I love knowledge.
- 2:11:11Speaker 1: I love the take. Coach.
- 2:11:12Speaker 4: We appreciate you so much. Thank you for coming on
- 2:11:14Speaker 4: the show. Is unbelievable. Please subscribe eight five stars.
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: That was awesome.
- 2:11:20Speaker 6: You guys, awesome, you guys.
- 2:11:21Speaker 10: Go
