- 0:03Speaker 1: All right, all right, yo yo yoo, your life from Philly.
- 0:08Speaker 1: It's the number one rated Holy and Tony Foolsco. Sha
- 0:11Speaker 1: yo yo yo always Polly Foolsco here with Tony Foosco
- 0:17Speaker 1: and Tony Yo huge show today. You know, keep hearing
- 0:22Speaker 1: people in this industry, they keep saying this is a
- 0:25Speaker 1: slow week for sports, and then there's nothing to talk about.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I don't know what the hell they're talking about. Yeah, exactly.
- 0:32Speaker 1: If you don't know what to talk about, then get
- 0:35Speaker 1: out of the business. Because we got March Madness, World
- 0:39Speaker 1: Baseball Classic other things. There's just a lot to talk about. Yep.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And you know, by the way, Tony, on the subject
- 0:47Speaker 1: of March Madness, how's your bracket doing? There? Still perfect?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Thirty two out of thirty two. No surprise that, Tony.
- 0:56Speaker 1: In fact, I'm right behind your thirty one of thirty though,
- 1:00Speaker 1: like very good. I had Iona beating Yukon behind the
- 1:04Speaker 1: great Rick Pettino, And well you know that that leads
- 1:07Speaker 1: to in the business, what we call it a segue
- 1:10Speaker 1: for those of you trying to big news this week
- 1:15Speaker 1: out of Iona with what some would call the controversial
- 1:19Speaker 1: hiring by Saint John kid now former ion a coach
- 1:24Speaker 1: seventy year old Rick Pettino. And you know we love
- 1:29Speaker 1: this higher, Tony. Who who wouldn't love this higher? It's incredible.
- 1:33Speaker 1: There are some talking heads in our business who are
- 1:37Speaker 1: frowning on it, some fools, you know. One in particular
- 1:40Speaker 1: is our colleague here at Fox Sports Radio. We're gonna
- 1:43Speaker 1: bring him on the show today to try to talk
- 1:45Speaker 1: some sense in him, although we might hold the record
- 1:48Speaker 1: for most times getting kicked off this show. Co host
- 1:51Speaker 1: of the Odd Rob Parker, Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But anyway, on the subject the things you might be
- 1:59Speaker 1: looking forward too, there's another segway there. It's time for
- 2:03Speaker 1: a word from our good friends at game Time. Are
- 2:08Speaker 1: you looking for last minute tickets to a game tonight? Then?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Why the did you wait so long? Yeah, loser, You're lucky.

- 2:26Speaker 1: Offer only valid in Guam game Time. Okay, Well, now
- 2:31Speaker 1: that we got that business out of the way, another
- 2:34Speaker 1: check in the Man for a deep dive into our
- 2:37Speaker 1: top story to story. All right, obviously, the big story
- 2:43Speaker 1: Rick Patino. He made the out of attorney, but he's
- 2:47Speaker 1: still all out dominating college basketball headlines. As Saint John's
- 2:53Speaker 1: signed the seventy year old coach to a six year deal.
- 2:57Speaker 1: A lot of people they're they're bad, shouldn't this move
- 3:01Speaker 1: because you know, Patino's noted history of scandals and the
- 3:05Speaker 1: violations and whatnot. What what's wrong with that? What's wrong
- 3:09Speaker 1: with that? But yeah, Fortunately there's one person in my
- 3:12Speaker 1: industry who gets it. Our longtime colleague in this business,
- 3:17Speaker 1: Jim Rome, who clearly loved the signing. Yeah, play that clip.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I love the hire. I think the hire is a
- 3:25Speaker 1: home run. And I said that too. Even at age seventy,
- 3:31Speaker 1: he still has that maniacal drive. He still has that
- 3:33Speaker 1: fantastic energy, he still has that grit, and he's got
- 3:37Speaker 1: old man toughness. There you go, yea perfectly perfectly said
- 3:43Speaker 1: old man toughness and nailed it. Is exactly what you're
- 3:47Speaker 1: wanting a coach and what you're getting Pantino. You know
- 3:50Speaker 1: someone who has seen it all and can handle it all.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Rick Pattino has seen it all. You know, the winds,
- 3:57Speaker 1: the losses, your hirings, the rings, the coals, the vacated titles,
- 4:03Speaker 1: the scandals, the criminal investigations, the trial too, the depositions,
- 4:08Speaker 1: the cross examinations, the extortion attempts, the prostitution scandals, the
- 4:13Speaker 1: under the table sexual encounters and restaurants, the second round
- 4:17Speaker 1: of criminal investigations he's done, derogations from federal investigators, and
- 4:22Speaker 1: also the many championships he's truly seen at all. Yep.
- 4:27Speaker 1: If you want a successful college basketball program, the first
- 4:31Speaker 1: thing you need is a coach who can handle any opponent,
- 4:35Speaker 1: including the FBI. That way, when the next criminal investigation
- 4:40Speaker 1: comes down the pipe, he'll say, dolt, worry, guys, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: got this absolutely tony. And you know that's why it's
- 4:48Speaker 1: no surprise about what's going on in Houston right now.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolute coach sixty seven year old Galvin Sampson,
- 4:56Speaker 1: who led the Gougers to the one seed. You know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: his resume is just impressively stacked with several violations, suspensions, probations, penalties,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and forced resignations. And you know that just shows that
- 5:09Speaker 1: he has the experience totally necessary to be an unstoppable
- 5:14Speaker 1: force in college basketball. Absolutely. You know, this is why
- 5:18Speaker 1: I have some very serious concerns about tob and Anderson,
- 5:21Speaker 1: the former coach of Fairley Dickinson, the sixteen seed who
- 5:25Speaker 1: upset number one perdue. He just got hired by IONA
- 5:30Speaker 1: to replace the legendary Rick Patino. And frankly, I have
- 5:34Speaker 1: some serious concerns about a coach like Anderson, who's a
- 5:38Speaker 1: youthful and inexperienced fifty one year old with no violations
- 5:43Speaker 1: or infractions on his record. How does IONA expect to
- 5:47Speaker 1: win with a coach who clearly plays by the rules
- 5:50Speaker 1: and doesn't commit any violations. Seems like a recipe for
- 5:55Speaker 1: disaster if you ask me, great point, doty and might
- 5:59Speaker 1: I am. I've never understood why coach Pettino took so
- 6:03Speaker 1: much heat for his off the court dalliances. I mean, honestly,
- 6:07Speaker 1: who among us has not had a sex act performed
- 6:10Speaker 1: on them inside a restaurant, especially an Italian restaurant. They
- 6:15Speaker 1: are very romantic and have very large tables. So I
- 6:20Speaker 1: think Petino has been unfairly prosecuted. So true, and you
- 6:25Speaker 1: know this leads to the subject of another basketball figure
- 6:29Speaker 1: being criticized, Michael Jordan, who announced he wants to sell
- 6:33Speaker 1: his ownership in the Escharlotte Hornets now yea industry. They're
- 6:37Speaker 1: using this as an opportunity to bash Jordan and they
- 6:41Speaker 1: say that, you know, without Scottie Pippen, he wasn't successful
- 6:44Speaker 1: at anything. The Wizard's mess, the Hornet's mess. Now, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you know that's true when you think about it. It's
- 6:51Speaker 1: a truly valid point, isn't it. Absolutely? You know, in
- 6:55Speaker 1: case you're having trouble understanding why, I'm gonna give you
- 6:58Speaker 1: what they call in the business and analogy. Okay, think
- 7:02Speaker 1: about David Ledhiman. Ever since he left Paul Shaffer, has
- 7:07Speaker 1: he done anything funny? No, no, exactly, So we have
- 7:12Speaker 1: to wonder maybe it was Paul Shaffer who is the
- 7:15Speaker 1: funny person. You know, when David Ledhiman would tell a joke,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I never knew if I should laugh or not until
- 7:22Speaker 1: Paul Shaffer played a funny chord on his piano, and
- 7:27Speaker 1: then I knew it was funny. Just goes to prove
- 7:30Speaker 1: Paul Schaefer and Scottie Pippen were the real superstars. So
- 7:36Speaker 1: well put tony and you know, it's moved to another
- 7:39Speaker 1: big story. We can't ignore the USA losing to Japan
- 7:43Speaker 1: in the World Baseball Classic. You know this story, it's
- 7:46Speaker 1: become so huge that whenever people come up to me
- 7:49Speaker 1: and then they talk about the World Series, I assume
- 7:52Speaker 1: they're talking about the World Baseball Classic. I thought the
- 7:55Speaker 1: exact same thing. And you know, the other day I
- 7:58Speaker 1: heard someone say that the Astros won the World Series
- 8:01Speaker 1: this year, and I said, no, No, Japan won the
- 8:04Speaker 1: World Series. That's what we count now, not the other thing.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Great point, Tony. You know, if I'm an Astros fan,
- 8:11Speaker 1: I have to feel like that championship just isn't that
- 8:13Speaker 1: meaningful anymore? No, not at all. Well, finally, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: as we set up top, some people in our business
- 8:21Speaker 1: consider this a quote unquote dead zone for sports. Don't
- 8:24Speaker 1: know what they're talking about, but yeah, you know it's
- 8:27Speaker 1: it's probably because these sites like ESPN what they start
- 8:30Speaker 1: doing is they try to cram these headlines down our throat,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know, give us all the sports that nobody cares about.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So what we're gonna do right now, Tony, is I'm
- 8:39Speaker 1: gonna read you actual headlines from the front page of
- 8:43Speaker 1: the ESPN dot com website, and then I'm going to
- 8:47Speaker 1: see if you actually care about them or not. It's
- 8:50Speaker 1: a segment we call do you give a fun? Do
- 8:53Speaker 1: you give of all? Right? Tony Wolves towns upgraded to
- 8:59Speaker 1: questionable Wednesday? Do you'll give a My interest in this
- 9:04Speaker 1: article has been downgraded to never? No okay. Top seat
- 9:10Speaker 1: in Mets members only spot cost twenty five k. Do
- 9:13Speaker 1: you'll give a fuck? I would pay twenty five k
- 9:18Speaker 1: to not have to read this article? No okay? Abs
- 9:23Speaker 1: extend to coach bed naw through twenty six twenty seven season.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Do you'll give a I am going to bed now
- 9:32Speaker 1: so I don't have to read this article? No okay?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Here's another one? Sources Qatari Sheik to make a new
- 9:41Speaker 1: Man United bid. Do you'll give a I am chic
- 9:45Speaker 1: and tired of reading these articles? No okay? Oo sick
- 9:51Speaker 1: fury in Jeopardy as talks stall sources say do you'll
- 9:56Speaker 1: give a fuck? I'm going to stall from starting this article?
- 10:02Speaker 1: No okay? Final one at Tony McElroy supports proposals to
- 10:08Speaker 1: limit ball distance. Do you give a fuck? H This
- 10:13Speaker 1: is an interesting proposal because if you analyze PGA Tour
- 10:17Speaker 1: driving distance stats, they have increased an average of sixty
- 10:21Speaker 1: yards since nineteen ninety nine, which has almost irreparably changed
- 10:26Speaker 1: the game that was once all about precision and accuracy
- 10:30Speaker 1: and rendered some courses too easy for most professionals. By
- 10:34Speaker 1: limiting ball flight, the game can return to its roots
- 10:38Speaker 1: and allow some of the more refined ball strikers to
- 10:42Speaker 1: once again compete Failey and equally so to answer your question, yes, wow, okay,
- 10:51Speaker 1: well that was do you give a Yeah, great segment there.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Too bad, we got to ruin it too bad. Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 1: We gotta move on because I see our guest coming
- 11:01Speaker 1: on the line, So let's bring them on the FUSCO
- 11:04Speaker 1: satellite network. All right, this guy co host the Odd
- 11:12Speaker 1: Couple on the Fox Sports Radio colleagues there right, if
- 11:15Speaker 1: a dead spin, also in a dead heat for the
- 11:18Speaker 1: record of being off this thrown off this show the
- 11:21Speaker 1: most times, I think the other one's Jason McIntire, but
- 11:24Speaker 1: who cares anyway. All right, Rob, let's just get to
- 11:27Speaker 1: the point here. You know, you've been vocal, as you
- 11:29Speaker 1: usually are, to your own fault about how you didn't
- 11:32Speaker 1: like Saint John's hiring the legendary coach Rick Patino. Just
- 11:37Speaker 1: an insulting move by you, and you know you you
- 11:40Speaker 1: said on your show they should change the name of
- 11:43Speaker 1: Saint John's to shame John. So we have two questions
- 11:48Speaker 1: for you, Hey, how long did it take you to
- 11:51Speaker 1: come up with that? And be was it more than
- 11:53Speaker 1: two seconds? Well? You know me, I'm always looking for
- 11:57Speaker 1: an easy way out. I mean, you're the easy way out.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Don't worry about that, all right? Keep going? Yeah, why
- 12:04Speaker 1: you guys such haters? You know that I'm right. The
- 12:09Speaker 1: legend Rick Bettino, he was a legend. He's seventy years old.
- 12:13Speaker 1: They gave him a six year contract for a guy
- 12:16Speaker 1: who has so much baggage he couldn't even check on
- 12:20Speaker 1: on Spirit Airlines? Are you kidding me? There is nobody
- 12:26Speaker 1: brings bags on Spirit Airlines. Yea analogy doesn't hold up,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but nope. And experience, Yeah, he's in his prime experience, Rob,
- 12:34Speaker 1: He's seventy. He's seen at all the wins, the losses,
- 12:38Speaker 1: the investigations, yet attempts. Nothing can that he can't hand it.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Isn't that what you want in a coach? No? I
- 12:46Speaker 1: want to be able to send my son to play
- 12:49Speaker 1: men's college basketball for a decent human being who's not
- 12:53Speaker 1: involved in prostitution, extortion. Ron I've heard of aside is
- 13:00Speaker 1: but at a restaurant under a table. You know, we're
- 13:03Speaker 1: glad that you brought that up, Rob, because you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I don't mean to budge into your personal life. But
- 13:08Speaker 1: who among us has not had you know, a sex
- 13:11Speaker 1: act to two performed on them in a restaurant, and
- 13:15Speaker 1: especially an Italian restaurant. Italian restaurants are made for love,
- 13:20Speaker 1: aren't they never happened to you? Rob? I'll have one
- 13:23Speaker 1: thing to say to you. Guys, forget about it. What
- 13:26Speaker 1: are you talking about? Might go to a restaurant I'm
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to eat. I'm not going to make love or
- 13:32Speaker 1: the table for one, poker, table for one. Nobody wants
- 13:36Speaker 1: to going to the wrong restaurants, Rob, Not just a second?
- 13:39Speaker 1: How old are you? If I might ask? How old
- 13:41Speaker 1: are you? Almost sixty years old? You're old enough, You're
- 13:45Speaker 1: not older. That's the problem, Patino. Two years on you
- 13:49Speaker 1: you can't relate. You said you don't want someone who's
- 13:53Speaker 1: gonna cheat and high up prostitutes. Have you followed college
- 13:56Speaker 1: basketball at all in your career? That's how you win exactly? Well?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Rick Patino's had his chance. He you know what, He
- 14:05Speaker 1: begged the people at Iona to give him another chance.
- 14:07Speaker 1: They did. He promised that he would never go anywhere
- 14:11Speaker 1: and never leave them. And as soon as he made
- 14:13Speaker 1: the NCAA tournament, he's out of there. He wants a
- 14:16Speaker 1: bigger and better job. What about all those people at
- 14:18Speaker 1: IONA who vouch for him, who gave him his Iona.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Do you even know where Iona is? Exactly? I think
- 14:26Speaker 1: it's near Ohio where that is? Not even even sure
- 14:32Speaker 1: if it's in the United States? Who knows? Yeah, yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 1: exactly Iona? About Iona? Give me a break, even Ionians
- 14:41Speaker 1: don't care about Iona? Yeah? Iona? This guy over Seriously, Rob,
- 14:46Speaker 1: you know you want these young coaches these days. If
- 14:49Speaker 1: I said, hey, who is the opponent in college basketball
- 14:53Speaker 1: you need to watch out for most, wouldn't you say?
- 14:55Speaker 1: It's the FBI? Isn't that who you want to be
- 14:58Speaker 1: prepared for? So? Yeah, you know, perfectly prepared for that. Exactly.
- 15:03Speaker 1: You're right. Maybe he won't get to the uh to
- 15:06Speaker 1: the final four, but he can definitely maneuver his way
- 15:10Speaker 1: out of an investigation with the FBI. That's what you want, Yeah,
- 15:14Speaker 1: that's what you want. These are kids, These are thugs
- 15:21Speaker 1: or these are on the mobs. Have you been to St.
- 15:23Speaker 1: John's recent? Yeah? When's the last time you've been to
- 15:26Speaker 1: Saint John's? Yeah? I grew up in Jamaica Queens. That's
- 15:30Speaker 1: where Saint John's is. I could I could walk to
- 15:32Speaker 1: Saint John's. Yeah, you couldn't last a second there. Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you're too young. You don't have what it takes you ran. Yeah,
- 15:40Speaker 1: when I went there, I went there to go to
- 15:42Speaker 1: the library. Before you know it, not that Rick Pettino
- 15:45Speaker 1: is going to be the head coach. Before you know it,
- 15:47Speaker 1: there'll be a gun in my back as I'm trying
- 15:49Speaker 1: to return library from Rick Petino himself. Rick Petito is
- 15:53Speaker 1: gonna come after you. Yeah, all the way, Rob Whyn't
- 15:56Speaker 1: he got you on this podcast? Just quick? Uh? You
- 15:59Speaker 1: know you're a baseball man. May we just ask you
- 16:01Speaker 1: who won the World Series this year? This past year
- 16:04Speaker 1: to Houston Astros in correct, the world Japan won the
- 16:09Speaker 1: World Series. That Japan is the winner. It's the World
- 16:13Speaker 1: Series series. That's the World Series, is seed, that's series. No,
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's bigger, it's bigger. It's just you know, you're obviously
- 16:21Speaker 1: an Astro's fan. It's hard for you to accept that
- 16:24Speaker 1: that's not the real championship any yea, yep, are you
- 16:28Speaker 1: kidding me? That was an exhibition before the point before
- 16:33Speaker 1: the before that was Yeah, that was better than anything
- 16:38Speaker 1: in MLBAS himself a baseball man. Yeah, look all right,
- 16:42Speaker 1: jo it hold on while I got here. I got
- 16:43Speaker 1: another another thing that I want to maybe get your
- 16:46Speaker 1: opinion on. You're a Baseball Hall of Fame vote. Right,
- 16:49Speaker 1: you got a Baseball Hall of Fame vote? Is that
- 16:50Speaker 1: trop Absolutely? We still don't know how that happened, but
- 16:55Speaker 1: a right anyway, an old story here, but we you
- 16:58Speaker 1: know now that we got you on. Uh, you're wasting
- 17:01Speaker 1: our time. Explain something that. Yeah, Scott Rowland plays for
- 17:04Speaker 1: the Phillies for six or seven years, plays for the
- 17:06Speaker 1: Cardinals for like a cup of coffee. They go to
- 17:09Speaker 1: him when he's getting elected in baseball, say who do
- 17:12Speaker 1: you want to go in? As he says, a cardinal?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Your thoughts are on this despicable move. Yeah, but finally,
- 17:21Speaker 1: first of all, I didn't vote for him for the
- 17:23Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, okay, but he did get in, and
- 17:27Speaker 1: now he should get out because of what he did
- 17:29Speaker 1: to the people of Philadelphia. Finally, I agree with you, guys.
- 17:34Speaker 1: He's a follow up question for you. If he were
- 17:37Speaker 1: to change his mind and say, no, I made a mistake.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I want to go in as a Philly then would
- 17:43Speaker 1: you believe that he is a Hall of Famer? He's
- 17:45Speaker 1: still not a Hall of Fame? Are you kidding me?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Scott Roland? You can't the show. You disrespect Rick Pettino first,
- 17:56Speaker 1: then you disrespect Scott Roland, the great Scott Rolling. Yeah,
- 18:01Speaker 1: it took him. It took him like twenty years to
- 18:04Speaker 1: get in. How would you a Hall of Famer if
- 18:06Speaker 1: it takes that loan to get in? When I go
- 18:08Speaker 1: with a Hall of fame, real hall of famers, one
- 18:11Speaker 1: shot to get in. Either you're a Hall of It's
- 18:14Speaker 1: not gonna take not twenty years to kick you off
- 18:17Speaker 1: the show. You know what it's gonna take that. Yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 1: that's gonna tell him. Paulie, You're gonna take three seconds
- 18:22Speaker 1: because you yeah, done the great Frick Batito and scart rolling.
- 18:28Speaker 1: You guess what that gets you? And it gets you
- 18:30Speaker 1: a vote off the show? Go on and guess what
- 18:34Speaker 1: ye get done? You're don dirty a pocket Locke lives. Yeah,
- 18:40Speaker 1: rots poker show. Take me off the show. I'm the
- 18:45Speaker 1: only thing that's good on this show. When I'm all,
- 18:47Speaker 1: are you kidding me? You're off the show? Unanimous vote,
- 18:51Speaker 1: first ballot off the show? Is he off the line, Jay,
- 18:59Speaker 1: hang up the phone. There you go, your witnessed history
- 19:01Speaker 1: paper kicked off the show for what Yeah, the twentieth time. Exactly.
- 19:05Speaker 1: He's a hall of Shama on the Fusco show. There
- 19:09Speaker 1: you go, well, said Tony. Well, we're not gonna let
- 19:11Speaker 1: that ruin what was a terrific show. Otherwise, of course,
- 19:14Speaker 1: we want to thank our friends at Game Time Business.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Thank you. Wait, you're kidding me, talk about shame, Tony, Yeah, exactly,
- 19:23Speaker 1: produce a Jay, What what are you wanting to correct
- 19:27Speaker 1: what you said? You want a seventy year old coach
- 19:32Speaker 1: like Rick Patino to coach your basketball team? Yeah, experienceged bro,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. Since twenty ten, the average age of head
- 19:41Speaker 1: coaches who made the Sweet sixteen it's fifty two point
- 19:44Speaker 1: nine years old, so it's probably too old. Oh yeah, well, uh,
- 19:51Speaker 1: fifty two point nine is gonna be your body temperature
- 19:55Speaker 1: after I stick you in my freezer. Yeah, Sweet sixteen
- 19:59Speaker 1: is gonna be the number of times I run over
- 20:02Speaker 1: you with my car. Yeah yeah, you're done. No more, no, no, no,
