- 0:18Speaker 2: It's showtime, folks! Enjoy the show!
- 0:42Speaker 3: Hi, John Amplis, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown, the
- 0:45Speaker 3: greatest movie geek show on Earth.
- 1:00Speaker 4: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 1:03Speaker 5: My name is Martin. I'm 84 years old. People think
- 1:08Speaker 5: I'm crazy when I tell them how old I am.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I'd like to be normal. I just have a sickness.
- 1:16Speaker 5: The only way I can survive is by drinking blood.
- 1:24Speaker 5: It's not easy living the way I do.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I have to be careful all the time.
- 1:30Speaker 5: I'm pretty good at it.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I think as I get older, I get better. I
- 1:35Speaker 4: haven't been caught yet.
- 1:39Speaker 5: You see, people don't understand what's wrong. They think that
- 1:42Speaker 5: I'm a monster. They think I'm a vampire.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Martin, another kind of terror.
- 2:02Speaker 5: I would like to be like everyone else. I have
- 2:05Speaker 5: to do things that I don't necessarily like to do.
- 2:09Speaker 4: But I want to stay alive.
- 2:11Speaker 5: I do need blood.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I just pretend.
- 2:57Speaker 6: Dead angels speak to me sometimes Giving me advice that
- 3:06Speaker 6: I should hear You are what I'm looking for Because
- 3:14Speaker 6: you're close Because you're.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Near Welcome to Movie Meltdown Sofa Theater.
- 3:26Speaker 8: Once again, I am Brian.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I am Greg. This is Jay.
- 3:30Speaker 9: I am Lucy.
- 3:31Speaker 10: I'm Marlena.
- 3:32Speaker 7: This week's Sofa Theater feature is Martin. The year is 1977.
- 3:36Speaker 7: Director George A. Romero. The plot, according to IMDb, a
- 3:42Speaker 7: young man who believes himself to be a vampire goes
- 3:44Speaker 7: to live with his elderly and hostile cousin in a
- 3:47Speaker 7: small Pennsylvania town where he tries to redeem his blood-craving urges.
- 3:51Speaker 7: And with that, spoiler alert, because, yeah. Actually, it's weird
- 3:55Speaker 7: how many people haven't seen this for as old as
- 3:57Speaker 7: it is and is connected to, yeah, is connected to
- 4:00Speaker 7: a huge director, especially in the horror world. It's like,
- 4:03Speaker 7: there's still a lot of people that haven't seen this.
- 4:05Speaker 11: I think I was okay with having not ever seen this.
- 4:08Speaker 7: We'll get to that in a minute. Before we get
- 4:10Speaker 7: to our own thoughts on the movie, it is time for...
- 4:13Speaker 7: One from the vaults. Our ongoing series where we delve
- 4:16Speaker 7: into the vaults of an actor and hear their thoughts
- 4:18Speaker 7: on the movie. This week, we talk to John Amplis,
- 4:21Speaker 7: the star of Martin. So let's see what John has
- 4:23Speaker 7: to say.
- 4:24Speaker 3: In fact, my senior year of college is where George
- 4:27Speaker 3: saw me do a play and then cast me as Martin.
- 4:31Speaker 7: That's what I was going to ask, how you got involved.
- 4:34Speaker 8: So he just saw you.
- 4:35Speaker 7: On the stage?
- 4:35Speaker 3: He saw me on the stage, went away, and I
- 4:39Speaker 3: think he had an older character in mind initially and
- 4:42Speaker 3: rewrote it and called me two months later and offered
- 4:46Speaker 3: me the role.
- 4:47Speaker 8: What did you think? The first time you read the
- 4:49Speaker 8: script for Mark?
- 4:51Speaker 3: I liked it because for me it's not a horror film.
- 4:54Speaker 3: It's a psychological thriller. And so I think it's a
- 4:59Speaker 3: character study. And as an actor, doing a character study
- 5:05Speaker 3: is far more interesting than doing a slasher film or
- 5:11Speaker 3: a cartoon. So I really enjoyed the text and I
- 5:17Speaker 3: related to it. pretty quickly and easily.
- 5:19Speaker 8: That's what I was going to ask.
- 5:21Speaker 7: How different is Martin of that age as John at
- 5:24Speaker 7: that age, aside.
- 5:26Speaker 8: From all the murders?
- 5:27Speaker 3: Well, I was a little older than what Martin appears
- 5:30Speaker 3: to be. I was 27. Martin probably looked about 17
- 5:34Speaker 3: or 18. But I related to the teenage angst, and
- 5:39Speaker 3: I also related to the isolation of Martin was obviously
- 5:44Speaker 3: orphaned and passed around. And my early days as a kid,
- 5:48Speaker 3: you know, I didn't grow up with my parents, so
- 5:52Speaker 3: I had a similar experience in terms of living with
- 5:58Speaker 3: people other than my own family members. So those things
- 6:03Speaker 3: about Martin I readily related to. Everything else, then the
- 6:09Speaker 3: dissimilarities you figure out how to do. And that's where
- 6:13Speaker 3: the acting comes into play.
- 6:15Speaker 7: What did you do to prepare for the role?
- 6:18Speaker 3: I think I did all the preparation I could in
- 6:21Speaker 3: terms of reading and working out the dramatic action in
- 6:25Speaker 3: my head and on paper.
- 6:28Speaker 8: And then once you.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Get to the set and you're in front of the camera,
- 6:33Speaker 3: everything has to be moment to moment. So you can't
- 6:38Speaker 3: foretell the future. You can't, the past has already been told,
- 6:42Speaker 3: so you have to do what you're supposed to do
- 6:45Speaker 3: right then and there. And that's how it works.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Once you played it, it was, I guess, a very
- 6:50Speaker 7: different movie than a lot of, even horror movies at
- 6:52Speaker 7: that point. Yes.
- 6:53Speaker 8: Did people you know look at you differently?
- 6:55Speaker 3: No, not at all, no. I mean, everybody understands that
- 6:58Speaker 3: we're actors and it's a job, and so professionally, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 3: everybody seems to get that, you know, actors are just actors,
- 7:08Speaker 3: and Both characters in movies and plays are just characters
- 7:12Speaker 3: in movies and plays.
- 7:13Speaker 8: You're pretty convincing, though. He comes off as a pretty
- 7:16Speaker 8: unstable kid.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Well, that is part of the job.
- 7:18Speaker 8: That's to your credit.
- 7:19Speaker 3: That's part of the job.
- 7:20Speaker 8: He's very convincing.
- 7:22Speaker 3: That's what actors are supposed to do.
- 7:25Speaker 8: As far as the.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Somehow, in the middle of it, you come off with
- 7:29Speaker 7: a very sinister look. Is it something that you... And
- 7:32Speaker 7: I don't know if sometimes it seems like a shot,
- 7:34Speaker 7: that it's something that maybe George set up, but sometimes
- 7:36Speaker 7: it comes up... It's almost just the look of... on
- 7:39Speaker 7: your face but it's almost the shot itself.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Well I can't tell you anything about how that may
- 7:46Speaker 3: or may not have happened I know that George I
- 7:49Speaker 3: mean George certainly was generous in terms of and a
- 7:54Speaker 3: mentor in terms of helping.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Me through through the.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Film Mike Gornick who shot the film is a tremendous
- 8:06Speaker 3: cinematographer And he and I got along very well. And
- 8:12Speaker 3: I think the big key is you have to be
- 8:14Speaker 3: aware of the camera, and yet at the same time
- 8:17Speaker 3: you have to not be aware of the camera. A
- 8:21Speaker 3: little dichotomy there, but the idea is know what you're
- 8:26Speaker 3: supposed to do, know where you're supposed to look, hit
- 8:30Speaker 3: your mark, do what you're supposed to do.
- 8:33Speaker 7: It works so well with him, though, because he's got,
- 8:35Speaker 7: you know, you come off playing it very innocent one minute,
- 8:38Speaker 7: and then it'll kind of cut to a shot, and
- 8:40Speaker 7: he just looks really evil.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah, well, that doesn't have anything to do with me.
- 8:44Speaker 3: It's just maybe, I'll give it to George and Mike.
- 8:50Speaker 8: As far as just, was.
- 8:51Speaker 7: There anything specific, like, story-wise that you really remember about
- 8:54Speaker 7: the shoot itself?
- 8:57Speaker 3: You know, I mean, not really, other than what George
- 9:00Speaker 3: has created with every film he ever does. is he
- 9:04Speaker 3: creates a family atmosphere. And in Martin, especially, since Martin
- 9:09Speaker 3: was probably the lowest budget since Night of the Living
- 9:13Speaker 3: Dead that he had to deal with. And so everybody
- 9:17Speaker 3: chipped in. Everybody worked. Everybody picked up cables. Everybody moved cameras.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Everybody chipped in. And it was really a big kind
- 9:28Speaker 3: of wonderful family affair.
- 9:30Speaker 8: I was kidding before. Do you watch Dexter?
- 9:34Speaker 3: I love Dexter. I haven't seen all of the episodes,
- 9:37Speaker 3: but I love Dexter, and I think he's terrific.
- 9:43Speaker 8: I think he owes a little bit to you.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I think Dexter owes a little bit to me, too. Although,
- 9:49Speaker 3: what's the guy's name that plays him?
- 9:51Speaker 8: Michael C.
- 9:52Speaker 12: Hall.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Michael C. Hall. He's terrific.
- 9:55Speaker 1: He's amazing.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he's terrific.
- 9:57Speaker 7: Yeah, the holding the needle in them, and there's shots
- 9:59Speaker 7: every once in a while.
- 10:01Speaker 3: You know, although I'm sure he's probably never seen Martin.
- 10:06Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 10:07Speaker 8: Maybe he did. He's got a good reputation. Maybe he did.
- 10:10Speaker 8: He just has better drugs than you, because.
- 10:11Speaker 4: His are meaty.
- 10:12Speaker 8: Oh, absolutely.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Yours took way too long.
- 10:15Speaker 8: Yeah, he's got the good stuff.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 8: He works in the police station.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I was back in, you know, I'm old school.
- 10:21Speaker 8: They've made a lot better drugs since then.
- 10:23Speaker 7: Absolutely. So yes, thank you once again to John for
- 10:25Speaker 7: sharing his memories of Martin. And now on to us.
- 10:28Speaker 7: So I ask you, where do we begin?
- 10:30Speaker 4: Hey, on the thing, IMDB says that he thinks he's
- 10:34Speaker 4: a vampire. Don't they point... out in the movie that
- 10:37Speaker 4: he's been around for quite some time.
- 10:40Speaker 9: 80 some odd years.
- 10:41Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 7: It depends on where you go from. And that's kind
- 10:45Speaker 7: of what I like about this because it leaves it
- 10:47Speaker 7: very vague. It's sort of like who you listen to.
- 10:51Speaker 7: And then in the end, you're kind of like, there's
- 10:53Speaker 7: a couple of stories going there and you don't really
- 10:55Speaker 7: a hundred percent know who to believe. But yeah, he
- 10:58Speaker 7: says at one point he's 84 years old.
- 11:00Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 7: And then by appearances, like even when he's talking to
- 11:04Speaker 7: normal people, His cousin says that he's not even 20. So,
- 11:08Speaker 7: I mean, he definitely comes off as being this kid. But, yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 7: I mean, it.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Well, no, I mean, his older cousin, the one who
- 11:15Speaker 4: looks like Colonel Sanders?
- 11:16Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Because I think at some point, doesn't he say that
- 11:18Speaker 4: he's been around for a long time?
- 11:19Speaker 7: Yeah, when he's looking through the family album, and he's
- 11:21Speaker 7: going back through, like, the generations of this curse.
- 11:24Speaker 9: He's talking about his age being 20, but he looks,
- 11:26Speaker 9: I guess.
- 11:26Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 7: But he also said, and this is weird, it's like
- 11:28Speaker 7: it took me a couple times to catch exactly what
- 11:30Speaker 7: he was saying. He talked about when his father died...
- 11:33Speaker 7: And he said he had his father until he was 36. Now,
- 11:36Speaker 7: the first time I was hearing it the other way,
- 11:38Speaker 7: like his father was 36 when he died. No, Martin
- 11:41Speaker 7: was 36 when his father died. And then just recently,
- 11:44Speaker 7: I think, if I'm getting it right, his mother committed
- 11:46Speaker 7: suicide recently, and that's why he had to come stay
- 11:49Speaker 7: with his cousin. So, the crazy old man. So, yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 7: That's kind of one of my favorite things about this,
- 11:55Speaker 7: is it never really nails it down... As to what's
- 11:59Speaker 7: going on, and you can kind of take away from
- 12:00Speaker 7: it what you want.
- 12:01Speaker 9: To me, that's one of the most annoying things about
- 12:03Speaker 9: this game.
- 12:03Speaker 7: That's because you're difficult.
- 12:05Speaker 9: I don't know. It's just too out there with itself. Like, ooh.
- 12:09Speaker 4: He was kind of a sloppy vampire for something that's
- 12:11Speaker 4: been around for a while. The worst damn vampire I've
- 12:13Speaker 4: ever seen.
- 12:15Speaker 7: I will give you, he left a lot of loose ends.
- 12:17Speaker 7: And thank God for him that this was a time
- 12:19Speaker 7: when they didn't do any sort of investigations, obviously.
- 12:22Speaker 11: Right.
- 12:23Speaker 7: There was no DNA samples. There was no... Fingerprints. Fingerprints, yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 7: No CSI team. Yeah, you could get away with anything
- 12:30Speaker 7: according to this movie.
- 12:31Speaker 4: I think they took DNA at that time, but at
- 12:33Speaker 4: the time they didn't know how to process it.
- 12:35Speaker 14: They could just eliminate it by blood type.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that's probably what they could do.
- 12:40Speaker 7: Because, yeah, they're finally getting around to testing stuff from this,
- 12:43Speaker 7: you know, back in the 70s sometimes in these cold
- 12:46Speaker 7: case kind of bullshit that they bring up, but... Every
- 12:48Speaker 7: once in a while, they actually do find somebody and, like, prove, oh,
- 12:51Speaker 7: you've been dead for ten years, but you know what?
- 12:52Speaker 7: You were innocent. Sorry we sent you to prison.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Oops.
- 12:55Speaker 4: And when that guy released from Texas, finally.
- 12:58Speaker 7: Yeah, after how many years?
- 13:01Speaker 4: 30 years.
- 13:02Speaker 7: So, I mean, yeah, they were just at the infancy
- 13:05Speaker 7: of figuring out some of that stuff. But obviously, according
- 13:08Speaker 7: to this movie, it was not in practice because he
- 13:10Speaker 7: was pretty sloppy as a killer.
- 13:13Speaker 9: It's the worst method I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 13:16Speaker 9: This was the lamest, most.
- 13:18Speaker 15: And whoever his drug supplier was to knock chicks out
- 13:21Speaker 15: with was an idiot.
- 13:22Speaker 7: Well, I said that to John. I was like, well,
- 13:24Speaker 7: and it really, I mean, I guess the drugs weren't
- 13:26Speaker 7: quite as potent as they are now. Because now, I mean,
- 13:29Speaker 7: you can hit somebody and they'll hit the floor. I mean, it's,
- 13:33Speaker 7: and again.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Experience with this?
- 13:34Speaker 7: Maybe. But on top of that. I watch a lot
- 13:37Speaker 7: of Dexter. And we can get to that, too. But yeah, that's,
- 13:40Speaker 7: I mean, that's one of those that you have to
- 13:42Speaker 7: question some of that. But at the same time. It's
- 13:44Speaker 7: not like he's trained in this. I don't really know
- 13:47Speaker 7: for sure that he knows what he's doing because he
- 13:49Speaker 7: says that's a recent addition, too, is that, you know,
- 13:52Speaker 7: in just the last, you know, few years of these 84,
- 13:55Speaker 7: he's started introducing the needles into the process.
- 13:58Speaker 4: The other thing that I was thinking of, too, that
- 14:00Speaker 4: hadn't really occurred to me, I was an E.T. technician
- 14:03Speaker 4: at one time.
- 14:04Speaker 7: E.T.? Yeah. Jolting aliens back to life.
- 14:09Speaker 4: But if you didn't hit, if you didn't hit the vein, Yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 4: it would take a while. it would take, maybe 15 minutes,
- 14:15Speaker 4: maybe 5 minutes, depending on the size of the dog,
- 14:19Speaker 4: and then it would finally just kind of flop around
- 14:21Speaker 4: on the floor and then pass out.
- 14:24Speaker 7: And half the time here, he was hitting the back
- 14:26Speaker 7: and the legs, like the fat part of the legs.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Yeah, muscle parts.
- 14:29Speaker 16: So, you know, that kind of makes a little bit
- 14:31Speaker 16: more sense now that I think about it, about hit the,
- 14:33Speaker 16: you know, what the hell?
- 14:33Speaker 4: Why isn't this acting so fast? You hit a vein
- 14:36Speaker 4: and boom, they're out.
- 14:38Speaker 9: Right in the neck.
- 14:38Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 14: That's where you gotta go with it.
- 14:41Speaker 11: I agree.
- 14:41Speaker 16: He usually could be within a matter of seconds, but
- 14:43Speaker 16: like when you're Just kind of poking around.
- 14:45Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 4: You know, wrestling with the girl on the floor.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Which he did. So that's our intro. I mean, we
- 14:52Speaker 7: get the all aboard and we're on the train for
- 14:55Speaker 7: the set off there. I mean, it is a really
- 14:58Speaker 7: cool way to open it because you have no idea. Especially,
- 15:00Speaker 7: I mean, I'm thinking at the time of probably people
- 15:03Speaker 7: not knowing that much about movie news and just going
- 15:05Speaker 7: in and sitting down and watching this. And you're just
- 15:07Speaker 7: thrown into this scene of him attacking this girl.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 4: You don't really know what he's going to do.
- 15:13Speaker 7: No, and you really, I mean, it's like a third
- 15:15Speaker 7: of the way in the movie before you really start
- 15:17Speaker 7: to piece together not only what he's doing, but what
- 15:20Speaker 7: other people think he's doing, what he thinks he's doing. Like,
- 15:22Speaker 7: it really takes a while. I mean, there's a good
- 15:24Speaker 7: three or four different levels of things going on that, again,
- 15:27Speaker 7: I give credit for writing-wise. Like, it's a pretty complicated
- 15:30Speaker 7: structure to this, and it's executed pretty well. It's... Again,
- 15:35Speaker 7: some people have issues with it.
- 15:36Speaker 9: I feel like if this movie.
- 15:37Speaker 4: It's not accessible.
- 15:38Speaker 14: I feel like if this movie were redone, it would
- 15:41Speaker 14: be really amazing. By the right people on the right.
- 15:44Speaker 7: Yeah, it could be. It could be, but at the
- 15:45Speaker 7: same time, I can also see him doing a really
- 15:47Speaker 7: terrible version of it. Oh, yeah. I mean, that's what
- 15:50Speaker 7: I worry. I worry about anybody just taking a movie.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 7: I mean, if you give it to the right people,
- 15:54Speaker 7: you can look at True Grit now. I mean, I
- 15:57Speaker 7: thought that was a horrible idea when I first heard
- 15:58Speaker 7: about it, and then I found out who it was
- 16:00Speaker 7: going to, and I was like, oh, well, okay, you
- 16:02Speaker 7: know what, that's... competent hands okay let's do that so
- 16:06Speaker 7: it's possible to do remakes that kind of you know
- 16:09Speaker 7: at least live up to if not improve upon the
- 16:11Speaker 7: original idea but I would be afraid somebody would just
- 16:14Speaker 7: do something terrible with.
- 16:15Speaker 14: This so because I really like the idea of the
- 16:17Speaker 14: story a lot yeah you.
- 16:19Speaker 16: Don't really know what he is and what he's doing
- 16:23Speaker 16: aside from being a sloppy vampire because.
- 16:26Speaker 14: I like I mean I like I like vampires I
- 16:28Speaker 14: always have sorry I'm not into Twilight and that's kind
- 16:32Speaker 14: of like vampire movies are retarded nine times out of
- 16:35Speaker 14: ten let the right one in was really good but
- 16:37Speaker 14: that's about the only one i can think of off
- 16:39Speaker 14: the top of my head that's not like completely stupid
- 16:42Speaker 14: but i do like kind.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Of the old idea of vampirism where maybe they didn't
- 16:48Speaker 4: have fangs these are all just myths and stuff that
- 16:51Speaker 4: got tacked onto the story that they're really just crazy
- 16:54Speaker 4: people that just like the slash people.
- 16:56Speaker 7: And some of that, I mean, you look at going
- 16:58Speaker 7: back all the way to, like, Vlad the Impaler, I mean,
- 17:00Speaker 7: there's a real story there, and then there's what it
- 17:02Speaker 7: became over the years, so, I mean, it's, yeah, it's
- 17:05Speaker 7: a lot of, especially since this is rooted so much
- 17:08Speaker 7: in that, like, the old country, and you've got Cuda
- 17:10Speaker 7: telling you this, you know, you don't understand, you're not from,
- 17:13Speaker 7: you know, that part of the world, so when you
- 17:15Speaker 7: are from that part of the world, and you've got
- 17:17Speaker 7: these generations of people building up this story around you,
- 17:20Speaker 7: and Not only everyone in the town thinking that, but, like,
- 17:23Speaker 7: your own family telling you, oh, by the way, you've
- 17:26Speaker 7: got the curse, you know, and you are, you know, Nosferatu.
- 17:30Speaker 7: So it's... It makes the story really different. And, you know,
- 17:34Speaker 7: it is something that could happen to people as time
- 17:36Speaker 7: goes on. I mean, when everyone around you is convincing
- 17:39Speaker 7: you of something, regardless of what he is, I mean,
- 17:42Speaker 7: he's going to start to behave accordingly.
- 17:45Speaker 4: And that opens it up to, you know, because... none
- 17:48Speaker 4: of the conventions of what a vampire is are, does
- 17:52Speaker 4: he have other than the blood, the blood.
- 17:55Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 17:56Speaker 15: And so therefore, could it be the thing where he
- 17:58Speaker 15: was raised in a completely fucked up family and just
- 18:02Speaker 15: is convinced that he is a vampire? They convinced him
- 18:06Speaker 15: and they convinced him that he's, you know, 80 years.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Old and who knows?
- 18:10Speaker 15: They're all, they're all, I mean, Grant or his cousin
- 18:13Speaker 15: or the old, the old man was half insane as well. So, um,
- 18:17Speaker 15: And the flashbacks that he has aren't necessarily reliable. So, yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 15: he could just be a normal 20-year-old guy that's been
- 18:28Speaker 15: through a really fucked up life.
- 18:32Speaker 7: I really like the flashbacks, and it's funny, Romero wanted
- 18:35Speaker 7: to shoot the entire thing in black and white originally,
- 18:37Speaker 7: and as usual, the studio will not, even today, the
- 18:41Speaker 7: studios won't get on board for that idea, so that
- 18:43Speaker 7: was his way of compromising, was going back and working
- 18:45Speaker 7: in the flashbacks in black and white, but I like
- 18:48Speaker 7: those scenes and I think that's what I think it
- 18:51Speaker 7: does so well. And if you want to go with what, what,
- 18:54Speaker 7: if you listen to Romero, he really kind of planned for,
- 18:58Speaker 7: I mean, I guess in his mind, it is more
- 19:00Speaker 7: that he's just crazy that, you know, he, but I
- 19:03Speaker 7: like that it's left to, and it's almost delivered in
- 19:06Speaker 7: a way that you're almost buying the vampire thing. And
- 19:08Speaker 7: then Martin definitely is buying it. So, I mean, I
- 19:10Speaker 7: think you kind of need that to be able to
- 19:12Speaker 7: get the perspective of our, our main character, but, If
- 19:15Speaker 7: you listen to what Romero says about it, the way
- 19:17Speaker 7: that he envisioned it all is he's just kind of
- 19:20Speaker 7: crazy and this has all happened. So I think it's
- 19:23Speaker 7: really cool that they put these flashbacks in there because
- 19:26Speaker 7: from one sense you can look at it and assume
- 19:29Speaker 7: that it is these are scenes from the past. This
- 19:31Speaker 7: is actually him 50 years ago and this all really
- 19:34Speaker 7: happened or this is all in his head. And this
- 19:37Speaker 7: is why he's– I mean because it all mimics what's
- 19:39Speaker 7: going on in present day. So it's like maybe it's
- 19:42Speaker 7: this weird thing where his brain is seeing things and
- 19:45Speaker 7: also like deja vu-ing it to the point of, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 7: he thinks all this has happened and that's that's why
- 19:51Speaker 7: he thinks that he's 84 years old now because he
- 19:53Speaker 7: keeps putting all these memories into his head of these
- 19:56Speaker 7: 84 years that aren't even real it's all just delusion
- 19:59Speaker 7: and He's just sort of built it all up in
- 20:01Speaker 7: his head, thanks to everybody else telling him that he's
- 20:04Speaker 7: like that.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you would think after 84 years he would be
- 20:06Speaker 4: a little bit cleaner on his execution methods. That's why
- 20:10Speaker 4: it doesn't add up. Like not using sticks.
- 20:12Speaker 7: Yeah, kind of, but at the same time it's like
- 20:14Speaker 7: if you look back at the old footage, back then
- 20:17Speaker 7: you didn't have to do anything. Like even if you
- 20:19Speaker 7: watched the old Vampire movie, they would just kill people,
- 20:20Speaker 7: dump them on the road, walk away with blood all
- 20:23Speaker 7: over them.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 7: Old-time vampires, you know, back in the old country, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 7: they kind of ruled the town. It's like, unless you
- 20:30Speaker 7: got the whole mob together to hunt them down and
- 20:31Speaker 7: kill them, they did whatever they wanted. And, you know,
- 20:34Speaker 7: you look at all the old Hammer films, you don't
- 20:35Speaker 7: see them worrying about people. Unless it's Van Helsing, they
- 20:39Speaker 7: kind of come up, kill people, walk off, be like, whatever,
- 20:41Speaker 7: see you tomorrow night.
- 20:43Speaker 15: Plus, there were no lights. I mean, you know, when
- 20:44Speaker 15: you think about there were no lights, you had to
- 20:46Speaker 15: have an expensive torch or you'd have to have, you know.
- 20:50Speaker 7: And a lot of them, yeah.
- 20:51Speaker 4: You know, candles weren't, you know, so.
- 20:54Speaker 4: You could hide pretty easily back then.
- 20:57Speaker 7: And it was hard to track you down. You couldn't
- 21:00Speaker 7: have people, one person, go and get you. It's like
- 21:02Speaker 7: you really did have to have an entire lynch mob
- 21:05Speaker 7: following you around to even maybe have a shot at
- 21:07Speaker 7: keeping track of you. It was a lot scarier back then. Yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 7: and that's the only time they could find them. If
- 21:14Speaker 7: they're gone during the day, it's like the only time
- 21:16Speaker 7: you find them. There is no electricity, so there's no
- 21:18Speaker 7: way to hunt them down and get a hold of them.
- 21:20Speaker 4: No light vision, no heat vision, right?
- 21:24Speaker 7: I mean, there's a lot of it that, if you
- 21:26Speaker 7: want to look at it that way, is sort of plausible.
- 21:29Speaker 7: It is something that, you know, could take place in
- 21:32Speaker 7: someone who's kind of crazy. They really could start to
- 21:35Speaker 7: convince themselves that all this happened.
- 21:37Speaker 14: Actually, I mean, that happens a lot.
- 21:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, you hear all these stories about people
- 21:42Speaker 7: in asylums that think... They have an entire life, or
- 21:46Speaker 7: they have lived an entire life.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Or that they're JFK.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Or, yeah, and they're like, well, yeah, but you've been
- 21:51Speaker 7: here for 20 years, so when did all this happen?
- 21:53Speaker 7: But they're thoroughly convinced that all this is real. So,
- 21:55Speaker 7: I mean, that's all just kind of how the brain.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Works, really.
- 21:58Speaker 14: How crazy people operate.
- 22:00Speaker 7: How crazy people are.
- 22:01Speaker 11: It's crazy.
- 22:03Speaker 9: I can't believe this is happening. It's a nightmare for
- 22:06Speaker 9: you and him.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Your father was not from our part of the world.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Your mother knew. She believed.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Well, if she did, then thank God I was too
- 22:15Speaker 9: little to know her.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Grandfather, he is just a boy. Look in the books, Christina.
- 22:20Speaker 4: We have the books of the family. Did you ever look?
- 22:23Speaker 4: Of course, the books.
- 22:24Speaker 9: The books will show it. Those damn books, they should
- 22:26Speaker 9: be burned. That's where you get your horrible ideas.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Ask the boy himself. Ask Martin. He will tell you.
- 22:32Speaker 14: He's unbalanced.
- 22:34Speaker 9: He's mad. And you and those books have driven him
- 22:37Speaker 9: to it.
- 22:37Speaker 4: He is Nosferatu. He was born to a lignibulressa. and
- 22:41Speaker 4: Rudy Mathias in The Old Country in 1892.
- 22:44Speaker 7: I do like, and this is something I noticed just
- 22:48Speaker 7: kind of watching this again this week, it's like independent
- 22:52Speaker 7: film was something very different back then, and this was
- 22:55Speaker 7: almost like the last era of that, because by the
- 22:58Speaker 7: time you hit the 80s, you have videotape, and by
- 23:02Speaker 7: the time now, you've got digital, so it's a very
- 23:05Speaker 7: different thing, and I think at this point, and all
- 23:08Speaker 7: of that's probably why you have all these great movies
- 23:10Speaker 7: of the 70s, it's like, when people wanted to make
- 23:13Speaker 7: a film, there was a lot invested in it, I mean,
- 23:15Speaker 7: it was a lot of time, even something that's an
- 23:18Speaker 7: independent feature like this was, I mean, it's a hell
- 23:20Speaker 7: of a lot of time, a hell of a lot
- 23:21Speaker 7: of work, so you really kind of have to put
- 23:23Speaker 7: a lot into it, and I think that's the difference,
- 23:25Speaker 7: when you look at, you know, 90% of independent film
- 23:28Speaker 7: now is just, somebody gets a Lark, they buy a
- 23:31Speaker 7: digital camera, they get some of their friends, and they
- 23:33Speaker 7: make a movie, and I think it shows where watching
- 23:36Speaker 7: this kind of reminded me of, of, you know, that
- 23:38Speaker 7: dedication to making an independent film on film on actual
- 23:43Speaker 7: celluloid and how much work it was.
- 23:45Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 7: How much work it took just to put that together.
- 23:49Speaker 7: So I think that was something again, watching this, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 7: them actual shooting at that point. That's another thing that
- 23:56Speaker 7: was kind of cool was just the seeing the city
- 23:58Speaker 7: at that point. This is 77. So it is kind
- 24:01Speaker 7: of this time capsule of this little, town coming like
- 24:05Speaker 7: coming coming to a grinding halt in pittsburgh i mean
- 24:08Speaker 7: it's like it really is like and they were talking
- 24:11Speaker 7: about that if you go back they're talking about how
- 24:14Speaker 7: kind of sad it is i mean the shots of
- 24:16Speaker 7: him like walking through the town are amazing and it's
- 24:18Speaker 7: not because it's beautiful it's not because it's you know
- 24:21Speaker 7: a brochure to move to pittsburgh i mean it's it's
- 24:24Speaker 7: just like seeing this town falling apart and you're seeing
- 24:27Speaker 7: all these empty storefronts and you're seeing you know all
- 24:30Speaker 7: these old people shuffling around and it's like it's kind
- 24:33Speaker 7: of sad because it is one of those towns that
- 24:35Speaker 7: was built around the mill and it's gone. And there's
- 24:38Speaker 7: people just sitting around there waiting for the jobs to
- 24:40Speaker 7: come back and waiting for something to come along and
- 24:43Speaker 7: fix things. And you, you kind of know, especially now
- 24:46Speaker 7: that that's not going to happen.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Most of the young people move away.
- 24:49Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 4: They have to come back.
- 24:51Speaker 7: And that's what, you know, Coot is complaining about is like, fine,
- 24:54Speaker 7: get out. We don't need you anyway.
- 24:55Speaker 4: But there's a.
- 24:56Speaker 15: Lot of universities and, um, computer technology there in Pittsburgh now,
- 25:01Speaker 15: but the steel is gone.
- 25:04Speaker 4: There were a lot of shots in.
- 25:05Speaker 15: The movie of steel, like the bridges that he crossed
- 25:09Speaker 15: near the train station and some of the structures that
- 25:13Speaker 15: he was around walking around town that.
- 25:15Speaker 4: They took extra time showing.
- 25:18Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Cars, the crushing.
- 25:20Speaker 7: I like the crushing of the cars. That's what I
- 25:22Speaker 7: was going to say.
- 25:22Speaker 4: All of that was definitely part of that Rust Belt look.
- 25:26Speaker 7: And very, the cars in particular, very symbolic of, like,
- 25:29Speaker 7: what's happening there. It's like, this is the big, mighty
- 25:31Speaker 7: Pittsburgh steel industry and now it's just crushed and it's, like,
- 25:35Speaker 7: left to rot. So it's, yeah, it's kind of, I
- 25:38Speaker 7: don't know, I thought that was all kind of cool and, like,
- 25:41Speaker 7: a little more poignant than you would expect out of,
- 25:43Speaker 7: you know, a weird horror movie.
- 25:44Speaker 15: But, A city like Pittsburgh also is indicative of a
- 25:51Speaker 15: group of people that, you know, I have some family
- 25:55Speaker 15: from near that extreme eastern Ohio, near there, and they're
- 26:01Speaker 15: all that eastern European stock of people that very much
- 26:05Speaker 15: in the old ways and the, you know, older Catholicism
- 26:10Speaker 15: or even some of the Orthodox religions where they have
- 26:13Speaker 15: a lot of that.
- 26:16Speaker 4: And the old ways of doing things.
- 26:18Speaker 15: I know he liked using the Pittsburgh area anyway, but
- 26:23Speaker 15: you can definitely tell that feel of this is the
- 26:28Speaker 15: way it was and the whole conversation with the young
- 26:30Speaker 15: priest about do you believe in the old ways?
- 26:32Speaker 4: That's very much tied to.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Vampire myths and things like that.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Yeah well that was speaking of the shots too that
- 26:45Speaker 7: shot of all the church steeples as it's just running
- 26:47Speaker 7: through and it's like that's giving you this idea of
- 26:50Speaker 7: you know it's not like they're all the same piece
- 26:52Speaker 7: of that it's all little yeah different offshoots of it
- 26:55Speaker 7: but you see how many are there and just how
- 26:57Speaker 7: many kind of rule that little town and how like
- 27:00Speaker 7: straight laced they are and how set in the old
- 27:02Speaker 7: ways that they are so that's another one that you
- 27:05Speaker 7: can really kind of there's a good sense of reality
- 27:09Speaker 7: in this weird vampire movie because it is based around
- 27:12Speaker 7: kind of religious zealots. You know, it's like people that
- 27:16Speaker 7: are so crazy that they will, you know, by the
- 27:19Speaker 7: end start killing people because they think they're evil and they,
- 27:22Speaker 7: you know, they need to be stopped and their, their
- 27:25Speaker 7: evil ways are something that can't be, you know, dealt with.
- 27:28Speaker 7: So we just must destroy them and.
- 27:30Speaker 15: Drive a stake into a kid in your family.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Because some lady in town died.
- 27:35Speaker 7: Yeah. That's how, You know, and there are a lot
- 27:38Speaker 7: of stories, again, about people that are that crazy with
- 27:42Speaker 7: the religion, whatever their religion may be. They get so
- 27:45Speaker 7: deep into it that, I mean, their way is right.
- 27:49Speaker 7: And regardless of anything else, in the end, they're going
- 27:52Speaker 7: to do, yeah, they will do what needs to be
- 27:55Speaker 7: done to, you know, protect their religion, protect their ways,
- 27:58Speaker 7: protect their way of life.
- 28:00Speaker 4: It's, I don't know.
- 28:01Speaker 7: Again, that's just a weird little angle that kind of
- 28:04Speaker 7: comes into it and, I do like the crazy priest
- 28:07Speaker 7: just chain-smoking as he sits in there. He seems very
- 28:12Speaker 7: laxed in his ways, his genuflecting and throwing food in
- 28:16Speaker 7: his mouth. He does not seem really hardcore like the cousin,
- 28:20Speaker 7: crazy old man.
- 28:23Speaker 9: Oh, what else? Some realistic paint they had in them.
- 28:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Blood paint. Blood paint.
- 28:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:31Speaker 16: It's amazing how blood has kind of evolved in the movies.
- 28:35Speaker 16: It looks a little bit more realistic now, but for
- 28:37Speaker 16: some reason back in the 70s it just looked like
- 28:39Speaker 16: really bad red paint.
- 28:40Speaker 7: It wasn't the.
- 28:41Speaker 9: Right color for this movie. It was like a salmon
- 28:44Speaker 9: color at almost.
- 28:45Speaker 15: Do you think that they thought they were going to
- 28:47Speaker 15: be filming a black and white and they bought the
- 28:50Speaker 15: blood and they think, fuck, now we're stuck with.
- 28:51Speaker 4: This orange blood.
- 28:52Speaker 7: That would normally make sense. Actually, I mean, again, one
- 28:56Speaker 7: of our favorite pals, Mr. Savini, is in this movie
- 28:58Speaker 7: and did the makeup on it. And he said it's
- 29:01Speaker 7: because at that point that was just the formula. That
- 29:04Speaker 7: was stage blood.
- 29:05Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 29:06Speaker 7: They were like, on stage, you know, this probably reads
- 29:08Speaker 7: pretty good. You're sitting, you know, how far back? It's
- 29:11Speaker 7: like you really can't see it. Plus, you almost need
- 29:13Speaker 7: it to be a little overly done.
- 29:14Speaker 19: To really sort of project what you're trying to do.
- 29:17Speaker 19: I guess nobody really ever stepped up. It was like
- 29:19Speaker 19: the one said formula. Nobody stepped up and said, hey,
- 29:21Speaker 19: you know what? I'm going to make my own stage
- 29:23Speaker 19: blood and make it a little bit more realistic.
- 29:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it was. It was just one of those common things.
- 29:26Speaker 7: It was like right there.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Here's the recipe for stage blood.
- 29:29Speaker 7: At that time, yeah, it was like.
- 29:30Speaker 14: That would have looked more realistic.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Yeah. Do you think possibly too.
- 29:35Speaker 15: Because there were, I mean, censorship laws and things still
- 29:40Speaker 15: that perhaps they.
- 29:42Speaker 4: It was too real. Yeah, it was too real to
- 29:44Speaker 4: show real blood.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, because even this movie as it stands,
- 29:49Speaker 7: they were going to give them an X rating. They
- 29:51Speaker 7: had to trim... A few scenes... Well, actually, it was
- 29:54Speaker 7: like one little frame out of one of the... I
- 29:58Speaker 7: think it's the first kill scene when he slices the
- 30:00Speaker 7: girl on the train. I think that's the one they
- 30:02Speaker 7: had a big problem with, and they cut one little
- 30:04Speaker 7: frame and then trimmed time further out in the movie
- 30:07Speaker 7: so that at the end they were like, look, the
- 30:08Speaker 7: running time's shorter. And again, how ridiculous they are about
- 30:12Speaker 7: those rules because they then went, oh, okay, rated R,
- 30:15Speaker 7: and nothing was changed. One frame was changed. That really
- 30:18Speaker 7: made that big a difference. I mean, those... rating laws
- 30:21Speaker 7: are such bullshit at this point even now I mean
- 30:24Speaker 7: we just had another incident of that of them trying
- 30:26Speaker 7: to rate something in C-17 for no good reason really
- 30:29Speaker 7: so it's what is the one I don't know that
- 30:34Speaker 7: Ryan Gosling movie whatever the hell that thing is I
- 30:38Speaker 7: don't know it's up for Oscars this year but I
- 30:40Speaker 7: mean it was oh it's a good movie who cares
- 30:42Speaker 7: well no I mean it was yeah But yeah, they
- 30:45Speaker 7: went through that whole thing of them trying to get
- 30:46Speaker 7: it in C-17, and they're like, well, the act that
- 30:49Speaker 7: you have problems with is in this other movie that
- 30:51Speaker 7: just came out this year.
- 30:52Speaker 4: Blue Valentine?
- 30:52Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it is Blue Valentine.
- 30:54Speaker 20: Out of nowhere, dude.
- 30:55Speaker 7: See? That's what I'm saying. It was Blue Valentine, and
- 30:57Speaker 7: they were going through that same thing of like... NC-17.
- 30:59Speaker 14: And Rated R, like, you have to be 17 to
- 31:01Speaker 14: see NC-17. In Rated R, you have to be 17
- 31:04Speaker 14: to see it.
- 31:04Speaker 7: But nobody will carry NC-17. It's still the kiss of death.
- 31:08Speaker 7: It might as well still be X, because any of
- 31:10Speaker 7: your chains are not going to pick up NC-17.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Well, hell, wasn't... Wasn't Showgirls NC-17?
- 31:15Speaker 7: I think they cut it back, too.
- 31:16Speaker 9: See, I remember.
- 31:18Speaker 7: They were promoting it. Maybe they did get it out. No,
- 31:20Speaker 7: I think it was NC-17 because I remember going to Showcase.
- 31:23Speaker 4: And seeing it. And they had security guards outside of
- 31:26Speaker 4: the theater. They were checking your ID as you came in.
- 31:29Speaker 7: But that was also when it was still new. So
- 31:31Speaker 7: I think that was also novelty at that point. Hey, look,
- 31:33Speaker 7: we've got NC-17. Whereas now, everything's just boring and family homogenized.
- 31:38Speaker 14: Because it's the same rule for Rated R.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Well, Rated R, you can be... accompanied by somebody when
- 31:45Speaker 4: they you know could be accompanied by somebody.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Who's older even your parent but in c17 you have
- 31:50Speaker 7: they're not supposed to let anybody yeah that's r but
- 31:55Speaker 7: yeah yeah i think c17 is just nothing yeah so
- 32:00Speaker 7: i mean it is one of those that probably yeah
- 32:03Speaker 7: no problem So that may have factored in, because, yeah,
- 32:07Speaker 7: this one they had problems with the blood scenes, and
- 32:10Speaker 7: I'm trying to think if there was something else. But,
- 32:11Speaker 7: I mean, to me.
- 32:12Speaker 8: Was it the boobies?
- 32:13Speaker 7: No, they can get away with it. Was it the
- 32:15Speaker 7: ass crack? Yeah. Or lack of ass crack.
- 32:17Speaker 9: It was the ass crack on the train, because it's
- 32:19Speaker 9: the middle of the train.
- 32:19Speaker 4: I think it's just some total graphicness.
- 32:22Speaker 15: I mean, you've got what's practically a rape, you know,
- 32:25Speaker 15: rape scenes and death and blood and.
- 32:29Speaker 21: again it's it's pretty it's a lot about sex it's
- 32:32Speaker 21: pretty sensitive material for 1977 so i can see them
- 32:35Speaker 21: having a lot of problems with this actually but it's
- 32:38Speaker 21: funny looking at it now it's it's a pretty i
- 32:40Speaker 21: mean you don't have i don't know i mean topic
- 32:43Speaker 21: wise it's.
- 32:43Speaker 7: Still a lot of rough material but as far as
- 32:46Speaker 7: visually i don't think there's anything that's gonna go freak
- 32:49Speaker 7: out most people who are used to watching movies now but.
- 32:53Speaker 15: Yeah it's fairly tame compared to movies now yeah I
- 32:56Speaker 15: think it's because there aren't any other. I mean, the
- 32:59Speaker 15: scenes are just one right after another.
- 33:01Speaker 7: Murder, rape, sex.
- 33:01Speaker 4: But he doesn't.
- 33:06Speaker 9: Actually rape anybody.
- 33:07Speaker 8: Well, I don't know.
- 33:08Speaker 4: He's sleeping with them.
- 33:09Speaker 7: Technically.
- 33:09Speaker 14: I think he does it because.
- 33:10Speaker 9: He said he never does the sexy stuff with them.
- 33:13Speaker 7: When they're awake.
- 33:13Speaker 14: When they're awake.
- 33:14Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 4: No, he said he's never done. Because when he slept
- 33:19Speaker 4: with them.
- 33:20Speaker 15: A chick.
- 33:20Speaker 4: He said, this is the first time I've ever.
- 33:22Speaker 7: I think he was lying to you. Because I think earlier,
- 33:25Speaker 7: I think he actually said, when they're awake. I think
- 33:28Speaker 7: maybe it's on the radio he says that. Because he, again,
- 33:32Speaker 7: he's usually kind of doing it. Which, again, I was like, well... Yeah,
- 33:36Speaker 7: and he's never attacking them in his mind. I mean,
- 33:39Speaker 7: they're just asleep. And truthfully, all but one, they're already dead.
- 33:43Speaker 7: I mean, the girl on the train, she's bled out
- 33:45Speaker 7: by the time he starts doing anything. So really, that's
- 33:47Speaker 7: just necrophilia. I'm not sure.
- 33:49Speaker 4: That's pretty much NC-17.
- 33:51Speaker 7: Yeah, that's like I'm saying, if you look at what's
- 33:53Speaker 7: going on, I mean, just drugging and raping girls and
- 33:56Speaker 7: having sex with dead bodies, this is a fucked up movie. But, again,
- 34:00Speaker 7: it doesn't present it really. I mean, it presents it
- 34:03Speaker 7: in a way that's, again, pretty... real world but without
- 34:07Speaker 7: being overly gratuitous about it i think it does it
- 34:10Speaker 7: is as tastefully as you can do these horrible acts
- 34:12Speaker 7: uh i guess again i think romero's still kind of
- 34:15Speaker 7: you know artful in the way he shoots a lot
- 34:18Speaker 7: of this stuff that it it lightens it up a
- 34:20Speaker 7: little bit almost because it looks so good and it's
- 34:22Speaker 7: it's still entertaining on a non-creepy level What was in it?
- 34:27Speaker 22: Tell me.
- 34:28Speaker 4: Damn it, why won't you say something to me?
- 34:31Speaker 14: What the hell do you want?
- 34:33Speaker 4: Give me my money. Give me my money.
- 34:37Speaker 22: It's not in here.
- 34:38Speaker 4: You can have what you want. I have a lot
- 34:41Speaker 4: of money.
- 34:43Speaker 9: This isn't a job you can't do.
- 34:52Speaker 4: It's all right.
- 34:54Speaker 9: I'm always very careful with the needles. It won't hurt you.
- 34:58Speaker 9: It won't hurt you.
- 34:59Speaker 4: It's just to help you sleep.
- 35:01Speaker 9: It's just to help you sleep. Why don't you just
- 35:04Speaker 9: take what you want and go?
- 35:06Speaker 17: I won't tell anyone you're here.
- 35:09Speaker 9: I'm always very careful with the needles.
- 35:14Speaker 17: It's how it puts you to sleep.
- 35:20Speaker 20: And it doesn't hurt.
- 35:25Speaker 15: I was actually creeped out by the first scene because
- 35:28Speaker 15: it's so real he takes so much time in her
- 35:31Speaker 15: falling asleep and that's so real that it's not like
- 35:36Speaker 15: the oh you know she's dead in a second or
- 35:40Speaker 15: she's out in a second there's that she's confronting him
- 35:44Speaker 15: what are you doing don't do this to me and
- 35:45Speaker 15: it's just it kind of sits with you that moment of.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Her realizing what's happening to her that's kind of you know.
- 35:54Speaker 7: Off-putting yeah and creepy that he's having to rationalize it
- 35:57Speaker 7: you know that he's having to answer back to her
- 35:59Speaker 7: and go no you're just gonna go to sleep it's
- 36:01Speaker 7: gonna be okay you know i'm not gonna hurt you
- 36:04Speaker 7: and and he's almost making it okay in his mind
- 36:07Speaker 7: too you know it's it is creepy and it is
- 36:09Speaker 7: probably how things go i don't know but it's it's
- 36:12Speaker 7: really i don't know it's such weird topic if you
- 36:16Speaker 7: want to get into it again i don't know if
- 36:18Speaker 7: people look at it that way because the more i
- 36:20Speaker 7: was thinking i was like Yeah, all but that one girl,
- 36:23Speaker 7: they're all kind of dead when he starts doing that.
- 36:25Speaker 7: So that's even weirder if you can go that way.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Put your finger in there.
- 36:37Speaker 7: Go ahead.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I can't.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Try it.
- 36:43Speaker 9: I can't put my finger in it. Wow, that's really good.
- 36:51Speaker 17: See, it has two blades, a real one and a
- 36:53Speaker 17: slip blade. You hold the real one and pull the
- 36:56Speaker 17: slip blade up. Things only seem to be magic. There
- 37:03Speaker 17: is no real magic. There's no real magic ever.
- 37:07Speaker 7: Misty, do you want to address the magic? You didn't
- 37:09Speaker 7: like that there was magic.
- 37:10Speaker 11: I had to deal with magicians at work, constantly doing
- 37:13Speaker 11: their card tricks and their coin tricks and their magic
- 37:16Speaker 11: hands and I'm going to end up punching somebody in
- 37:19Speaker 11: the face. The fact that I just told you this
- 37:21Speaker 11: like last week and then you make me watch this movie.
- 37:23Speaker 11: You're doing this magic trick with this fucking little.
- 37:26Speaker 7: That was already in the works well before you told
- 37:28Speaker 7: me that.
- 37:29Speaker 9: Made me cuss a lot. I forgot to tell you
- 37:31Speaker 9: that my New Year's resolution is that I'm not going
- 37:32Speaker 9: to cuss as much.
- 37:34Speaker 7: Good luck.
- 37:34Speaker 11: I did pretty good until you brought up the magic.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Alright, we'll see. More power to you.
- 37:42Speaker 9: We'll see how this goes.
- 37:43Speaker 7: I'm not making such promises.
- 37:46Speaker 9: I told you this a couple days ago.
- 37:47Speaker 4: I don't know this because it's always been such a.
- 37:49Speaker 9: Yeah, I didn't realize how much you cuss until I
- 37:51Speaker 9: decided I'm not going to cuss.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well.
- 37:54Speaker 9: Yeah, there's nothing lamer than a grown man trying to
- 37:57Speaker 9: do magic tricks. There's nothing in the world.
- 37:59Speaker 4: If you're out there listening, don't do magic tricks.
- 38:02Speaker 9: Please stop. Nobody wants to see your card tricks.
- 38:05Speaker 13: Nobody wants you pulling coins out of their ears unless
- 38:07Speaker 13: you're going to make them a million.
- 38:09Speaker 9: I'll be all right with it.
- 38:11Speaker 14: They never let you keep that fucking coin, did they?
- 38:13Speaker 7: Exactly. Jerks.
- 38:15Speaker 14: Hey, you know the only thing worse than people who
- 38:17Speaker 14: do magic tricks?
- 38:18Speaker 9: There's nothing worse.
- 38:19Speaker 14: People who randomly come up to you and tell you jokes.
- 38:22Speaker 9: Even that would be better.
- 38:24Speaker 4: We did have a few good jokes. I'll take the jokes.
- 38:27Speaker 9: But anyway, nothing lamer than magic tricks.
- 38:31Speaker 14: Nothing.
- 38:32Speaker 7: But see, that's, again, what I kind of like about
- 38:35Speaker 7: this is him, like, he's using that as, like, his
- 38:38Speaker 7: way in. He has no way to kind of interact
- 38:41Speaker 7: with these people he's so like socially awkward that he
- 38:44Speaker 7: doesn't even know how to begin so he's using this
- 38:47Speaker 7: goofy little magic trick that's supposed to amuse them but
- 38:50Speaker 7: then he's also using it as this way to address
- 38:53Speaker 7: the bigger issue the giant issue that's weighing on his
- 38:56Speaker 7: house is that you know they think he's a fucking
- 38:59Speaker 7: vampire you know they think that he especially the old
- 39:03Speaker 7: you know the old man thinks that he needs to
- 39:04Speaker 7: be destroyed so it's like he's using this as his
- 39:07Speaker 7: little way in But even he doesn't buy into it.
- 39:11Speaker 7: As soon as he does it, he tells you the trick.
- 39:13Speaker 7: And he's like, you know what? There is no magic.
- 39:15Speaker 7: It's all bullshit. All of this story, not just magic
- 39:19Speaker 7: in general, but all of this story that's built up
- 39:21Speaker 7: about vampirism and what goes on in movies and all
- 39:24Speaker 7: of this is kind of bullshit. And he's immediately sort
- 39:28Speaker 7: of calling that out because... it's what he's been living
- 39:31Speaker 7: with his entire life. Everybody has these theories of what
- 39:35Speaker 7: a vampire is and he's just like, none of it's real.
- 39:37Speaker 7: Just like magic, none of it's real. It's all just
- 39:40Speaker 7: bullshit that we've been fed our entire lives. So I
- 39:44Speaker 7: kind of like his approach because he's debunking magic you
- 39:47Speaker 7: know right off the bat he's he's throwing that out
- 39:49Speaker 7: there that it's all just sort of this superstition and
- 39:53Speaker 7: and stuff.
- 39:54Speaker 9: End up debunking these guys at work until.
- 39:57Speaker 4: You know please do and then that.
- 40:02Speaker 7: Was the other thing i was wondering as he as
- 40:04Speaker 7: he says that in the beginning when he runs in
- 40:07Speaker 7: there and he's like he bites the garlic and he
- 40:09Speaker 7: puts the cross up against his face and he says
- 40:11Speaker 7: there is no real magic And I'm trying to decide,
- 40:14Speaker 7: is he talking about the vampire mythos, or is he
- 40:17Speaker 7: talking about the religion? Right.
- 40:19Speaker 4: He's probably talking about the religion.
- 40:20Speaker 7: Because there's a little of both. I mean, you can
- 40:22Speaker 7: kind of look at that either way.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Your face is not doing anything to me.
- 40:26Speaker 7: There's people who will tell you, that's just magic, too.
- 40:29Speaker 7: That's all magic. And again, that will probably offend a
- 40:32Speaker 7: lot of people if you actually believe who's telling you that.
- 40:35Speaker 7: I'm just a little throwing it out there that it's
- 40:38Speaker 7: funny that you could kind of take that either way.
- 40:40Speaker 4: To old school.
- 40:42Speaker 15: Eastern Europeans, the religion and the mythos are one and
- 40:49Speaker 15: the same. It's all tied together.
- 40:51Speaker 7: And equally as crazy sometimes.
- 40:55Speaker 4: They're one and the same.
- 40:57Speaker 15: Not that vampirism has anything to do with their Christianity
- 41:03Speaker 15: or anything like that, but those stories are older than
- 41:06Speaker 15: the Christianity that came to them and was taught to them.
- 41:10Speaker 4: So they're one and the same at that point two
- 41:15Speaker 4: different beliefs that kind of come together and they kind
- 41:18Speaker 4: of mold each other they kind of form into one
- 41:21Speaker 4: belief they take a little bit of.
- 41:23Speaker 7: This and a little bit of that which again kind
- 41:24Speaker 7: of leads you to that zealot stage where I mean
- 41:28Speaker 7: you really can lose track of what is a crazy
- 41:31Speaker 7: superstition that you were taught as a kid and what
- 41:33Speaker 7: is part of your belief system that was taught as
- 41:35Speaker 7: a kid it kind of becomes a blurred line when
- 41:38Speaker 7: you exist in that world where it's all kind of
- 41:40Speaker 7: one big thing and everybody in that area seems to
- 41:43Speaker 7: believe the same thing, so it really... Yeah, I mean,
- 41:46Speaker 7: you can see where people will grow up and kind
- 41:48Speaker 7: of have a weird, messed up sense like Kuda. He's
- 41:52Speaker 7: completely convinced that his way is right, that his ways are,
- 41:56Speaker 7: you know, the only ways, and, I mean, you can
- 41:59Speaker 7: kind of see how that could... Again, it's not like
- 42:02Speaker 7: he's evil in his mind. He's doing what's right, you know?
- 42:06Speaker 7: He sees the kid as evil, and he's doing what
- 42:08Speaker 7: needs to be done, but, I mean, you watch this,
- 42:10Speaker 7: and You don't really like him. I mean, as the viewer,
- 42:14Speaker 7: you're kind of seeing things more.
- 42:15Speaker 4: He's a crazy old man.
- 42:16Speaker 7: Yeah, you're seeing things more like, you know, you're the kid,
- 42:19Speaker 7: you're the Martin, and you're just like, why is this
- 42:21Speaker 7: old man coming down on me? Why is he always
- 42:22Speaker 7: hassling me? Shit, I'm just trying to do my own thing. So,
- 42:25Speaker 7: I mean, you do sort of approach it as, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 7: you're that teenager thrown into this, and he's the old
- 42:30Speaker 7: man trying to, you know, keep you from doing what
- 42:32Speaker 7: you want to do. So, yeah, I mean, it's weird.
- 42:36Speaker 7: You can approach it from either angle. It's not like
- 42:38Speaker 7: either side is right. It's like both sides are wrong
- 42:41Speaker 7: in what they're doing.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Identify with the girl wanting to get the fuck out.
- 42:45Speaker 7: Yeah, that you do. I kind of like her. Actually,
- 42:50Speaker 7: that is Mrs. Romero. She was the old man's granddaughter, basically. Romero,
- 42:56Speaker 7: I think, had just started dating when he was putting
- 42:58Speaker 7: this together, and he wrote this role with her in mind.
- 43:01Speaker 7: And by the next movie, they were married, and they
- 43:03Speaker 7: are still married to this day. So that's pretty awesome.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Yeah, the grandpa just completely blocks her. Because, like, with
- 43:13Speaker 4: her and her boyfriend, you know, he's just kind of like,
- 43:15Speaker 4: you know, you don't want to get married. What do
- 43:17Speaker 4: you want.
- 43:18Speaker 7: Your granddaughter to do?
- 43:19Speaker 22: Tom Savini.
- 43:20Speaker 9: Tom Savini.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Well, that's not why. That's not why.
- 43:22Speaker 7: He was, I don't know.
- 43:23Speaker 4: He was unemployed, too.
- 43:24Speaker 13: Unemployed, too.
- 43:26Speaker 4: He was just mad because Tom Savini was going to
- 43:29Speaker 4: get married to his daughter and they were going to
- 43:30Speaker 4: move off together. He didn't want his granddaughter taken off.
- 43:33Speaker 4: He wanted her to stay right there with him.
- 43:35Speaker 7: And cook dinner every night.
- 43:37Speaker 9: Basically.
- 43:39Speaker 7: She did everything. Even when he's inviting people over to
- 43:41Speaker 7: the house, he was like, you will make a good dinner.
- 43:43Speaker 7: And I'm like, you're the one that invited this little
- 43:45Speaker 7: dinner party over. Why don't you start it?
- 43:47Speaker 4: He doesn't walk with her. He's like, I'm just going
- 43:49Speaker 4: to leave.
- 43:50Speaker 7: And it's not like you're completely ignorant. You work in
- 43:52Speaker 7: a place that sells food. I would think by now
- 43:54Speaker 7: you'd know how to make some damn food. You come
- 43:56Speaker 7: from the old country. Come on, that's all they did
- 43:58Speaker 7: was make food. You're just being a bastard and making
- 44:01Speaker 7: her do all the work. Oh, man.
- 44:05Speaker 4: You know, the part, you know, you're talking about faith.
- 44:09Speaker 15: When the church burned down, obviously the people didn't have
- 44:14Speaker 15: a lot of money because he was like, well, sell
- 44:16Speaker 15: your stuff so we can rebuild the church.
- 44:19Speaker 4: And he says that the church burning has really shaken
- 44:25Speaker 4: the faith of most of the congregation and that you
- 44:27Speaker 4: don't know how to act and you don't know what
- 44:30Speaker 4: to believe. And to me, you would.
- 44:33Speaker 15: Think that your faith would be a lot stronger than
- 44:36Speaker 15: just a building burning. So that shows you that there's,
- 44:40Speaker 15: across the board with that congregation, they're pretty weak to
- 44:44Speaker 15: begin with.
- 44:46Speaker 7: It was about the building and not your faith.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Oh, God wouldn't have let this happen to our church.
- 44:52Speaker 15: I would think if you're really keeping your religion in
- 44:55Speaker 15: your gut, that something as simple as a.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Building burning.
- 45:02Speaker 7: You need your big fancy building you need the gold
- 45:04Speaker 7: cross and you need you know i mean there are
- 45:06Speaker 7: people that like those trappings are what make religion to
- 45:09Speaker 7: them like if you don't have all that you know
- 45:11Speaker 7: that it's just not right and then you know it
- 45:13Speaker 7: can't be like well that's kind of not really once
- 45:16Speaker 7: again there's the bullshit you know if you have faith
- 45:19Speaker 7: it's like you should have faith in what's really being
- 45:22Speaker 7: taught they're not in the aesthetics of what's you know
- 45:25Speaker 7: in that building who And all that was real. I mean,
- 45:28Speaker 7: that church actually did burn down. That's where they were
- 45:31Speaker 7: shooting was a church that had just burned down. So it's, yeah,
- 45:34Speaker 7: that scene where they're shooting that is a burnt out
- 45:36Speaker 7: church that was in that neighborhood. Once again, the lovely
- 45:40Speaker 7: town of Braddock, Pennsylvania.
- 45:44Speaker 9: I want to talk about these creepy faces that guy
- 45:46Speaker 9: was making. The John, as you're going, whatever it is, Martin.
- 45:49Speaker 7: Martin.
- 45:50Speaker 9: He was making some creepy, creepy faces. Looking at that girl.
- 45:54Speaker 7: See, it's not just me, because I said it, as
- 45:56Speaker 7: you heard earlier, I said to him, you just came
- 45:59Speaker 7: off as, like, evil at times. Like, he would just
- 46:01Speaker 7: throw some glances that I was just like, wow, that
- 46:04Speaker 7: was just mean. Like, that is just, he does come
- 46:07Speaker 7: off as evil. And it's funny, he seems kind of.
- 46:10Speaker 9: I said more creeper than evil.
- 46:11Speaker 7: Well, that too. I mean, he definitely is very creepy
- 46:14Speaker 7: and very weird.
- 46:15Speaker 14: Well, he's like a stalker person. Rapist. Vampire. It's as
- 46:19Speaker 14: creepy as you get.
- 46:20Speaker 7: But again, he doesn't really know that he is. Like
- 46:22Speaker 7: a regular person who's a stalker or a rapist, I mean,
- 46:25Speaker 7: they kind of know and they're like logically planning all
- 46:27Speaker 7: this out where he's still under this delusion that he's
- 46:30Speaker 7: doing what he's supposed to do. So he also seems
- 46:33Speaker 7: very innocent about it. Like he doesn't realize what he
- 46:37Speaker 7: is really. He's so bought into the vampire end of
- 46:39Speaker 7: it that he doesn't realize, well, from the other end,
- 46:41Speaker 7: you're also just a creepy guy and you're lurking around
- 46:44Speaker 7: following people And eventually you're killing and raping and, you know, it's, yeah,
- 46:49Speaker 7: it's like there's also this, which ties into him being
- 46:52Speaker 7: kind of that, like, 19-year-old kid. It's like you really
- 46:54Speaker 7: do buy into that innocent level to him, that he
- 46:58Speaker 7: really is just so, there's part of him that really
- 47:01Speaker 7: is just this shy kid who is completely socially awkward,
- 47:05Speaker 7: doesn't know how to interact with people. And that would
- 47:07Speaker 7: exist regardless. Like, that's just kind of who he is.
- 47:10Speaker 7: And then you have this vampire mythos thrust upon him
- 47:13Speaker 7: his whole life. So that makes everything worse. So it's like,
- 47:16Speaker 7: he really is messed up anyway, and then you pile
- 47:19Speaker 7: all this other stuff on it. I don't know, to me,
- 47:22Speaker 7: I think he came off playing that really good. Like,
- 47:25Speaker 7: I really, that's, you know, what Romero says, he's like,
- 47:27Speaker 7: I can't imagine anybody else in this role because he
- 47:29Speaker 7: does it so well.
- 47:30Speaker 4: He does a great job, but I think it's also
- 47:31Speaker 4: the thing that can kill a career, too. Because once
- 47:33Speaker 4: somebody sees that, they're.
- 47:34Speaker 7: Like, well.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Unless we want a creepy guy.
- 47:37Speaker 7: Not really.
- 47:38Speaker 4: He's not going.
- 47:39Speaker 11: To be your lead heroic male or anything like that.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Cast Crispin Glover in a feel-good movie.
- 47:50Speaker 5: Right, right.
- 47:51Speaker 4: He gets cast in creepy.
- 47:52Speaker 7: Weird roles. Once you're creepy, you're usually creepy forever.
- 47:55Speaker 14: That's not true, because, I mean, he was in Back
- 47:57Speaker 14: to the Future.
- 47:58Speaker 4: But that was before. He was.
- 48:00Speaker 7: And he was also the weirdo even in that role.
- 48:02Speaker 4: He's still kind of weird.
- 48:04Speaker 7: Yeah, he's the weirdo even in that role.
- 48:06Speaker 11: Yeah, because he also did a voice in Nine, which
- 48:07Speaker 11: we watched, and we saw the credits, and we're like,
- 48:09Speaker 11: which one was Crispin Glover?
- 48:10Speaker 9: I'm like, he was probably a crazy one.
- 48:11Speaker 7: He was a crazy one.
- 48:12Speaker 14: Imagine that.
- 48:18Speaker 11: I was just glad this movie made it a lot
- 48:20Speaker 11: easier for stalkers in Syria because it was about putting
- 48:22Speaker 11: brick ladders on the sides of their houses.
- 48:24Speaker 4: And open windows.
- 48:25Speaker 7: Fancy 70s snazzy house. I'm telling you, that house was awesome.
- 48:29Speaker 7: I want to move into that house.
- 48:30Speaker 9: You could lost it.
- 48:31Speaker 14: But I want to rape this proof at first.
- 48:33Speaker 4: Space radios. Space radios. Open garage door. I want one
- 48:37Speaker 4: that can just go around and open garage doors.
- 48:38Speaker 7: Maybe he messed with it. Maybe he rigged it up
- 48:41Speaker 7: because he's a crazy 84 year old genius and he's
- 48:44Speaker 7: been He learned stuff from Einstein back in the day.
- 48:47Speaker 7: They hung out together. But again, you could overlook the
- 48:53Speaker 7: weird little things like your space radio opens your garage doors.
- 48:57Speaker 4: I still didn't get why.
- 48:58Speaker 15: I thought it was awkward that the husband left the house,
- 49:01Speaker 15: through the front door, walked around and opened the door
- 49:04Speaker 15: with the clicker that would belong in the car when
- 49:07Speaker 15: there's a door entering from the garage. I was like,
- 49:10Speaker 15: Because he knew it.
- 49:11Speaker 7: Yeah, he... He wasn't real smart anyway.
- 49:13Speaker 4: That was awkward. That was awkward. I didn't you.
- 49:16Speaker 7: Know he's not real with it because you saw he
- 49:18Speaker 7: goes off and leaves his wife and obviously there's something
- 49:20Speaker 7: going on there so he's kind of oblivious to everything
- 49:23Speaker 7: going on it seems oh man but yeah I think
- 49:27Speaker 7: that scene in the house is actually kind of cool
- 49:29Speaker 7: it is weird how extended a chase scene it becomes
- 49:33Speaker 7: and like this roundabout version of just going around the
- 49:37Speaker 7: house and like attacking them in different rooms but It's
- 49:41Speaker 7: kind of amazing that they set it up and it's
- 49:42Speaker 7: all still sort of real. He found a way to
- 49:47Speaker 7: separate them from each other. He found a way to
- 49:49Speaker 7: lock the guy away from him every time. He found
- 49:51Speaker 7: a way to get a hold of her.
- 49:53Speaker 4: It does seem very last minute. You just look at
- 49:57Speaker 4: him and go, man, this guy's just all thumbs. He
- 49:59Speaker 4: doesn't know what the hell he's doing. He's running around,
- 50:02Speaker 4: trying to answer the phone, hang up the phone, trying
- 50:04Speaker 4: to get more juice to juice him up with.
- 50:06Speaker 15: But they argued about what how to call and call
- 50:11Speaker 15: information and then call the cops and then forget the number.
- 50:14Speaker 15: And then fuck, if I got stabbed with something, I'd
- 50:17Speaker 15: be out the fucking door.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 4: But she was not wanting, you know, she didn't want
- 50:21Speaker 4: her husband to find out.
- 50:22Speaker 7: And that became like a safety net for this entire situation.
- 50:25Speaker 7: Like every step along the way, it's like, well, she
- 50:27Speaker 7: can't really do anything about any of this because she
- 50:30Speaker 7: doesn't want to get busted on that. So, I mean,
- 50:32Speaker 7: even by the end of it, when there's a dead
- 50:33Speaker 7: body involved, it's like, well, I guess he's still safe
- 50:35Speaker 7: because more than likely she's not going to ruin her
- 50:37Speaker 7: marriage and, get kicked out of her fancy 70s house
- 50:41Speaker 7: when uh all she has to do is shut up
- 50:43Speaker 7: about it so pretty shady yeah that's again he lucked
- 50:46Speaker 7: into that one where he could have gotten in trouble
- 50:49Speaker 7: in a more simple situation but i guess if nobody
- 50:51Speaker 7: would have been there he just would have stabbed her
- 50:52Speaker 7: and killed her anyway so yeah but.
- 50:54Speaker 15: His his reaction to when the guy's in there he's
- 50:57Speaker 15: you're not supposed to be here yeah he keeps repeating
- 51:00Speaker 15: like he can't he can't his brain can't handle the
- 51:03Speaker 15: fact that something's thrown a wrench in the plan. That
- 51:07Speaker 15: how dare you I came to kill this person. How
- 51:11Speaker 15: dare you.
- 51:12Speaker 7: Mess up my plan. Which again is why I think
- 51:14Speaker 7: he plays it so well because he really plays it
- 51:17Speaker 7: as a broody teenager. He's pissy. How dare you mess
- 51:20Speaker 7: up my plans. I had plans tonight. It was to
- 51:22Speaker 7: kill this woman. She knew to be here. I knew
- 51:25Speaker 7: to be here. You're fucking things up. Why are you
- 51:27Speaker 7: messing up my plans? All the way through he kind
- 51:30Speaker 7: of goes through and he comes off as this teenager
- 51:33Speaker 7: but even then like him not knowing how to deal
- 51:35Speaker 7: with it it's like he really he is he's just
- 51:38Speaker 7: kind of a teenager and he doesn't he stabs a
- 51:40Speaker 7: guy with a stick yeah he's like I you know
- 51:42Speaker 7: you're not supposed to be here just saying that like
- 51:45Speaker 7: a little brat like that's that's kind of how he
- 51:47Speaker 7: comes off at that point he plays it like this
- 51:49Speaker 7: this little kid who doesn't know how to deal with
- 51:51Speaker 7: things so his way of acting out is killing people
- 51:56Speaker 7: stabbing them.
- 51:57Speaker 11: This guy has skin like butter I gotta figure out
- 51:59Speaker 11: how to he didn't like have to apply any force
- 52:01Speaker 11: he just like went straight into his.
- 52:03Speaker 7: That's Tom Savini's fault.
- 52:05Speaker 4: Butternut.
- 52:07Speaker 7: He was supposed to make the neck better.
- 52:09Speaker 14: Old butternut.
- 52:10Speaker 4: Old butternut. Like a hot stick doula. Right in the
- 52:16Speaker 4: jibby now.
- 52:19Speaker 9: I think you'd have to play at least a little
- 52:21Speaker 9: bit of horse.
- 52:22Speaker 4: No, not if you're a vampire.
- 52:23Speaker 7: He's got super strength.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Well, maybe he broke it off into a little pointy end.
- 52:27Speaker 7: It was pointy. But still. It was still pretty easy
- 52:30Speaker 7: going in.
- 52:30Speaker 4: You'd have to push really hard.
- 52:31Speaker 7: You'd have to get a little... I'm no doctor.
- 52:35Speaker 9: Or stabbing people with stick persons.
- 52:37Speaker 11: I don't know the exact amount of force one would
- 52:40Speaker 11: have to apply.
- 52:43Speaker 7: I did really like the music. I think you brought
- 52:46Speaker 7: it up midway through. But I think the theme, like
- 52:48Speaker 7: that basic piano theme, is really creepy. And kind of,
- 52:52Speaker 7: to me, now watching it reminds me of Halloween. Like
- 52:55Speaker 7: the John Carpenter theme. There's notes there that are very similar.
- 52:59Speaker 7: And I'm like, this was the year before that. because
- 53:01Speaker 7: I'm like, I'm just wondering.
- 53:02Speaker 4: I was thinking it was very much more Peanuts.
- 53:04Speaker 7: The middle part is.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Kind of the theme, like, where Snoopy's... The Red Baron scene.
- 53:09Speaker 7: The Red Baron scene.
- 53:10Speaker 4: It's got that really kind of creepy... No, not to say...
- 53:13Speaker 4: I mean, Peanuts.
- 53:14Speaker 7: Well, Peanuts is amazing musically, really.
- 53:16Speaker 4: It's amazing musically, but even in the Red Baron scene,
- 53:19Speaker 4: when I was a kid, it used to be kind
- 53:20Speaker 4: of creepy, because it's him sneaking around.
- 53:22Speaker 7: It's the tense music, and that's kind of how they
- 53:25Speaker 7: use it here. It's like during the, like, Running around
- 53:27Speaker 7: scenes and, you know, during the chase scenes and stuff.
- 53:31Speaker 4: When he's picking the lock at the beginning, that's... It just.
- 53:35Speaker 15: I guess the only thing I can say is I
- 53:36Speaker 15: guess that's freeform and it's just.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it's creepy.
- 53:41Speaker 7: It's creepy. But it is so, like... It's... Donald Rubenstein
- 53:46Speaker 7: did it and it's like he's... he's so all over
- 53:49Speaker 7: the place and does them all. Well, it's like he
- 53:51Speaker 7: does the creepy stuff and then he does the, the,
- 53:54Speaker 7: a little more upbeat, like we were saying, the, the,
- 53:56Speaker 7: the stuff that's kind of thrown into the chase scenes
- 53:59Speaker 7: and stuff. But, but yeah, overall it's like, there's several,
- 54:02Speaker 7: especially like when he goes to the city and you
- 54:04Speaker 7: get that little funky stuff kicks in as you see
- 54:07Speaker 7: him walking around the strip clubs and stuff. So it's like, it's,
- 54:10Speaker 7: it's a pretty wide array of music, but like it
- 54:12Speaker 7: all comes off really well. And I think fits with
- 54:15Speaker 7: this movie pretty good. I actually kind of liked the music.
- 54:18Speaker 7: It's so funny that he's so going out of his
- 54:21Speaker 7: way just to get blood, and I guess you're assuming
- 54:25Speaker 7: that's the only way he can get it, but I'm like, well,
- 54:27Speaker 7: you know, you fast forward 20 years, there's goth girls
- 54:30Speaker 7: that would just let you cut them and drink their blood.
- 54:33Speaker 7: It became a thing later, and you could have found
- 54:35Speaker 7: a whole subculture to get into, Martin. You were just
- 54:38Speaker 7: born a little too soon, buddy.
- 54:40Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:42Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know if they'd be on board with
- 54:43Speaker 7: the actual killing, but if you just want to cut
- 54:44Speaker 7: them a little bit and drink their blood, there's a
- 54:46Speaker 7: whole scene for that, man.
- 54:47Speaker 14: They're called Fangbangers.
- 54:49Speaker 4: There you go, see?
- 54:50Speaker 7: It's a whole group waiting for you.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 54:54Speaker 7: Well, I brought it up with him, but I did
- 54:56Speaker 7: want to at least address, because, again, I found this, like,
- 54:59Speaker 7: years ago and found an old VHS copy and watched
- 55:02Speaker 7: it and was just really taken with it. I really
- 55:04Speaker 7: liked this movie in it. caught me off guard because
- 55:07Speaker 7: I had no expectations going in I didn't really even
- 55:09Speaker 7: know what the plot was so a lot of this
- 55:11Speaker 7: sort of caught me off guard but it's funny when
- 55:14Speaker 7: I went back and rewatched it you know just in
- 55:17Speaker 7: right before we went and talked to John I was
- 55:19Speaker 7: like all I saw were these weird parallels with Dexter
- 55:22Speaker 7: and maybe it's because I watched too much Dexter but
- 55:25Speaker 7: it's funny how many things I'm starting to see but
- 55:27Speaker 7: this one I was like it became so many I
- 55:29Speaker 7: couldn't I mean I can't imagine them not having seen
- 55:32Speaker 7: this at some point Because then I was running through later.
- 55:34Speaker 7: It's like, well, obviously the needles. I mean, that's how
- 55:38Speaker 7: he's got. Yeah, he's got the whole toolkit that rolls
- 55:40Speaker 7: up and keeps in his bag. He's got the needles
- 55:42Speaker 7: that that's the way he gets to his victims. He
- 55:44Speaker 7: knocks them out so that he can do whatever he
- 55:46Speaker 7: needs to do with them. The lock picking, right off
- 55:49Speaker 7: the bat, Dexter picks a lock every 15 minutes on
- 55:51Speaker 7: that show.
- 55:52Speaker 4: He's a social misfit.
- 55:53Speaker 7: He's a social misfit. He has no way of dealing
- 55:56Speaker 7: with people. He doesn't understand people, really. There's the two
- 56:02Speaker 7: scenes when he knows he's going out to get someone.
- 56:04Speaker 7: He almost has a kill suit, which is what Dexter
- 56:06Speaker 7: is now starting to refer to, that outfit that he
- 56:09Speaker 7: wears when he goes out at night and he knows
- 56:10Speaker 7: he's going to kill people. He has an outfit specific
- 56:14Speaker 7: to wear to go out and kill people in. Oh,
- 56:17Speaker 7: what else? He continually refers to himself as like, you know,
- 56:21Speaker 7: because Dexter always refers to himself as the monster and
- 56:24Speaker 7: not knowing how to deal with like the evil inside
- 56:27Speaker 7: you and almost finding a way to work around that
- 56:30Speaker 7: and have a life even though you're, you know, you've
- 56:32Speaker 7: got this evil inside of you. Dexter does it in
- 56:34Speaker 7: a more productive way, but they both sort of have that,
- 56:38Speaker 7: especially once he gets on the telephone and he starts
- 56:41Speaker 7: doing this almost voiceover and doing the narration that seems
- 56:44Speaker 7: very much like the Dexter stuff, that he really does
- 56:47Speaker 7: do this voiceover about, you know, dealing with this evil
- 56:50Speaker 7: inside of yourself. And learning how to kill because you
- 56:54Speaker 7: have to, you know? It's almost processing it that way.
- 56:58Speaker 7: I mean, Martin thinks that he has to drink blood
- 57:00Speaker 7: and he has to kill people to survive. Dexter is
- 57:03Speaker 7: just convinced that he's crazy and he has to kill
- 57:07Speaker 7: people so he finds a better way to kill people,
- 57:10Speaker 7: you know, a more deserving group of people. But they
- 57:12Speaker 7: both are thoroughly convinced. I mean, even recently when it
- 57:15Speaker 7: came to, you know, if you could just stop, you
- 57:17Speaker 7: could have a normal life, and he couldn't do it.
- 57:19Speaker 7: He knew he has to kill people, and they're both
- 57:23Speaker 7: sort of convinced of that. And even, I mean, as
- 57:26Speaker 7: simple as, like, the title. I mean, it's just their name.
- 57:29Speaker 7: So it's like there's so many things in this that
- 57:32Speaker 7: I'm just like, okay, you can't tell me, like, the creators,
- 57:36Speaker 7: you know, that the guy wasn't sitting at home watching
- 57:38Speaker 7: this at some point as a kid because... there's just
- 57:41Speaker 7: too many things there that, I mean, granted, there's no
- 57:43Speaker 7: vampire subplot in Dexter. There's, I mean, it's a very
- 57:47Speaker 7: realistic version where this becomes kind of crazy and has
- 57:49Speaker 7: the whole vampire lore, but I don't know. I mean,
- 57:52Speaker 7: to me, there was just so many things that crossed
- 57:54Speaker 7: over that I was just, that's all I saw, you know,
- 57:57Speaker 7: going back and rewatching it this time is how much
- 57:59Speaker 7: that tied in and the parallels that it pulls that
- 58:03Speaker 7: are sort of like these truths that they're pulling from
- 58:05Speaker 7: both stories, even though they're very different stories, they're different characters,
- 58:09Speaker 7: but that kind of wrestle with the same problems.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Oh.
- 58:13Speaker 4: I'd rather watch Dexter than watch this.
- 58:15Speaker 7: Yeah, I do love Dexter. But I, I mean, I
- 58:18Speaker 7: really like this. Like, this is probably, and it's funny,
- 58:20Speaker 7: Romero even says this is his favorite movie that he's done.
- 58:24Speaker 7: And I'd, I'd put it up there, I mean, to me, it's,
- 58:26Speaker 7: it's right up there with Night of the Living Dead.
- 58:28Speaker 7: I mean, it's, I really like this, and I know
- 58:30Speaker 7: it's got its issues here and there, as far as,
- 58:33Speaker 7: you know, I mean, it's only an $ 80, 000 budget. That's,
- 58:36Speaker 7: That's pretty ridiculously cheap. So, I mean, for what they
- 58:39Speaker 7: were dealing with and what they had to do, I
- 58:42Speaker 7: just really like the character study that they do. I
- 58:45Speaker 7: like the tale that ends up coming out of this
- 58:48Speaker 7: and the creepy kid that John plays. I think his
- 58:52Speaker 7: performance kind of makes it for me.
- 58:54Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 58:55Speaker 7: Without him, it wouldn't be. Yeah, I don't think it
- 58:58Speaker 7: would be near the movie that it is. It would
- 59:00Speaker 7: still be an interesting storyline, but, yeah, it wouldn't come
- 59:03Speaker 7: near what it is. So in the end, was anyone
- 59:08Speaker 7: before we discussed this convinced that he was a vampire
- 59:12Speaker 7: did you read it as that way i mean i
- 59:14Speaker 7: think the first time through i kind of felt like
- 59:16Speaker 7: that i kind of felt like that first time i
- 59:18Speaker 7: watched it that he was he at least had some
- 59:21Speaker 7: sort of you know watered down otherworldly version of vampirism
- 59:25Speaker 7: that he really in some way you know maybe it
- 59:29Speaker 7: was just mental but needed to drink blood and took
- 59:31Speaker 7: it upon himself to kill so he was like this
- 59:34Speaker 7: real world version of a vampire he didn't have fangs
- 59:36Speaker 7: he didn't have powers he couldn't turn into a bat
- 59:38Speaker 7: you know but it was sort of this real world
- 59:42Speaker 7: version of vampirism that you know I don't know that's
- 59:46Speaker 7: kind of the way it read that first time and
- 59:47Speaker 7: going back I find new things as I rewatch it
- 59:51Speaker 7: to me To.
- 59:53Speaker 4: Be a vampire or a vampire film, the person has
- 59:57Speaker 4: to conform to the conventions of a vampire.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: So Twilight is not a vampire.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: Exactly. Twilight is not a vampire film. I don't know.
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: Martin lucks out a lot.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: I could have attacked chicks better than this.
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: He's not real efficient.
- 1:00:14Speaker 15: Sure, you can need, this might be some disease or
- 1:00:17Speaker 15: some craziness that he needs blood, but he doesn't. Nothing
- 1:00:22Speaker 15: else matches what a vampire is.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 1:00:25Speaker 15: So you can't call it, to me, a vampire, other
- 1:00:28Speaker 15: than his grandpa calls him Nosferatu.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: He doesn't get piggyback rides. Right. Or sparkle in the sun.
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: But again, how much of that... Baseball.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Vampire baseball.
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: How much of that is what we've built it up to?
- 1:00:42Speaker 7: And especially in the last, you know, 56 years of
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: how much movies have turned all that into. So, I mean,
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: if you go back far enough, it's like if you take...
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: the Bram Stoker story out if you take out all
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: of these like fictionalized version in the end what is
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: the vampire mythos there.
- 1:00:58Speaker 15: Is no vampire without Bram Stoker yeah I mean there
- 1:01:01Speaker 15: was no vampire but you know.
- 1:01:02Speaker 7: But I'm sure they all have those tales of like
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: people drinking blood and people being sort of undead and
- 1:01:09Speaker 7: I mean so there's always some sort of lore that
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: kind of ties into that sort of thing so I
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: mean to me there is like a level where you
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: can look at it as that yeah and then there's
- 1:01:18Speaker 7: a whole other way that you can be like this
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: kid was just crazy right And I see more of
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: that as I rewatch it now, but I think originally
- 1:01:24Speaker 7: I kind of enjoyed it as this weird vampire tale,
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: and now I go back and watch it as just
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: a weird psychological... I kind.
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: Of see it as he could have been probably a
- 1:01:35Speaker 16: normal kid if it hadn't.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: Have been for.
- 1:01:37Speaker 16: these conditions that he grew up in, and the fact
- 1:01:39Speaker 16: that they were telling him, you're a vampire, you're cursed.
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: His environment and the people that he's been around that
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: made him into this monster.
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: Yeah, because otherwise, as you said, he has nothing else. Like,
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: there's nothing that he does that comes off that way.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: I mean, he uses needles and razor blades to kill,
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: I mean, hell, I can do that. You know, so
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: it's like, there is no real separation from him and
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: regular people, as it were, other than he's been told
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: since day one, and now he believes... that he suffers
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: this affliction, this curse, that has ruined his whole family
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: line at this point.
- 1:02:13Speaker 15: It's a more interesting story for the entire family to
- 1:02:18Speaker 15: be fucking crazy.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:19Speaker 15: And to think that they're vampires, and to think that,
- 1:02:21Speaker 15: you know, that makes the old man killing him at
- 1:02:24Speaker 15: the end even more.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: Spoiler alert.
- 1:02:28Speaker 17: Well, yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: We already... We've spoiled many things already, so if you
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: made it this far, you're in trouble.
- 1:02:34Speaker 15: So that makes him... It makes it even more creepy. Yeah,
- 1:02:37Speaker 15: it makes it more creepy. If he was a vampire, okay,
- 1:02:39Speaker 15: it's just the end of a vampire movie.
- 1:02:41Speaker 16: But if he's just a kid, it's like, dude, this
- 1:02:44Speaker 16: guy's fucked up. He just killed this kid because he's
- 1:02:47Speaker 16: convinced he's a fucking religious zealot.
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: Exactly. Which is probably more likely than that.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: That's the more realistic... I mean, you know, that's the...
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: When something becomes more real.
- 1:02:57Speaker 15: and you take the supernatural out of it, that's when
- 1:02:59Speaker 15: it really becomes creepy.
- 1:03:00Speaker 7: And that's what I thought was cool about this. It is, again,
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: as weird as the vampire end of it is, it's
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: a very real-world version of he is using razor blades
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: and needles to take these people out. So it's all
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: based in stuff that could happen. If this person was
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: crazy enough, they could believe that they need to do this.
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: And it's sort of based in the real-world version of
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: killing people. And that's what they were saying, that him
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: dying at the end, it's almost more tragic... not really
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: knowing or if you assume that it's wrong but it
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: does that doubt in there kind of makes it more
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: creepy when his you know cousin just stakes him through
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: the heart i mean it's and it's so.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: For the heart it was more than like yeah.
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: Well it's kind of it sort of moves to from
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: the other shot but yeah he just sort of shoves
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: a stake through his middle but um But it's also
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: so abrupt. I mean, it's just like, he's just talking.
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: And he's talking about learning to... Like, that line right
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: before they cut to that is like him... He's saying
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: you get used to it and you learn to deal
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: with your life. And it's like almost him, like he'd
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: already said, he's letting people live. He's starting to try to,
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: you know, deal with it and not have to kill people.
- 1:04:09Speaker 7: So it really is almost him growing as a person.
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: And maybe it's him not being that stupid kid anymore.
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: Maybe he's realizing... this is wrong and I need to
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: do this. And maybe like his, the girl leaving town
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: sort of had that effect. Like this is the only
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: person he's ever really connected with. And the other girl
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: he is carrying on with kills herself. So it's like
- 1:04:27Speaker 7: maybe all this traumatized him in a good way enough
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: to realize what I'm doing is wrong. And he starts
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: sort of, you know, dealing with that. And the next
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: scene you see, he's getting staked. So it's like, it's
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: so out of the blue. It's just like, I don't
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: know that one originally too, that, that really caught me
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: off guard that first time. And, In an amazing way.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: It's like it is something you don't see coming and
- 1:04:49Speaker 7: you're not prepared for at that point. But then again,
- 1:04:52Speaker 7: it's sort of truly, you know, if you want to
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: look at the artistic end of it, I mean, that's
- 1:04:57Speaker 7: the only way you could cap this off. Because what
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: did he say to him when he walked in? You know,
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: the first thing when he brings him in the house.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: You kill anybody in this town, I will stake you.
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: Not even that. Before that, he says, first I will
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: save your soul and then I will destroy you. He
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: said from day one in the house, I'm going to
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: kill you. And in the end, that's what he does.
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: So it's like, it is sort of this only way
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: to bookend it. It's like, he comes in the house,
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: he says, I'm going to kill you. In the end,
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: he takes him out. And again, he assumes for his
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: own right reasons, he assumes he's, and it's ironic, I
- 1:05:27Speaker 7: guess the one person he didn't kill in the movie
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: is the reason he gets killed. He gets taken out
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: for that woman who killed herself and for once wasn't
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: his fault. And he actually was sort of upset about
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: her dying, but that's the reason he gets killed. And that's,
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: Kind of does make it more tragic and more sad
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: is that he wasn't even responsible for the thing that
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: then gets him killed. What a shame.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: What?
- 1:05:50Speaker 14: What a shame.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: How about those bumbling cops?
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: I think it said they were actual cops in Philadelphia.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: That's even more sad.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: You're going to worry about those guys chasing you. No,
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: not really.
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: That's what I thought.
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: I was like, just run. They're not going to catch you.
- 1:06:07Speaker 7: You weigh like 98 pounds, dude. You will completely smoke them.
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: You'll be gone.
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: They already spent every.
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: Eight rounds out of the revolver.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: Out of the revolver, yes.
- 1:06:19Speaker 12: Oh, man.
- 1:06:20Speaker 7: So, I don't know. I really... took to this movie,
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: I think it really is kind of impressive to watch.
- 1:06:26Speaker 7: I know not everybody enjoyed it as much, but... I
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: thought it dragged on a little bit too long. And
- 1:06:30Speaker 7: that's good. I want to hear opposing points, so anything
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: you have.
- 1:06:34Speaker 14: I really like the story, but like I said, like...
- 1:06:37Speaker 14: Jurassic needs to be redone. I really think... I mean,
- 1:06:39Speaker 14: they do all kinds of shit. They redo shit that
- 1:06:42Speaker 14: doesn't need to be redone, and I feel like this...
- 1:06:44Speaker 14: I feel like the scenery and everything about it was dated,
- 1:06:47Speaker 14: you know, and I'm someone who likes... Old movies and
- 1:06:52Speaker 14: movies set in different times, but I just feel like
- 1:06:53Speaker 14: this movie was really dated. It's the 70s and you
- 1:06:57Speaker 14: don't like the 70s.
- 1:07:00Speaker 11: No, I can't get into movies that are from the 70s.
- 1:07:02Speaker 11: It's very few, like 90% of movies from the 70s.
- 1:07:04Speaker 11: I'm just like, I just don't feel this.
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: I don't care. It seemed to drag on and on forever.
- 1:07:10Speaker 9: His creepy face is, I wasn't a big fan of.
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: He had no ass.
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: They wore tighty-whities. Yeah, they did.
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: Oh, again, it was the 70s.
- 1:07:20Speaker 7: They had that one tooth.
- 1:07:20Speaker 14: That was, like, wider than the other one. Wider than
- 1:07:23Speaker 14: the other, and it, like, stuck out.
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: That's fluoride. Didn't you hear that report? We're all getting
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: too much fluoride now.
- 1:07:28Speaker 9: Well, why wasn't the other tooth matching it then?
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: Actually, in the 70s, we probably weren't. That was the
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: news report the other day. Now they're over-fluoriding the water.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what? The government doesn't need to be
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: putting shit in the water.
- 1:07:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't trust that.
- 1:07:40Speaker 11: I didn't like that the guy was too stupid to
- 1:07:41Speaker 11: break into his store to... steal clothes, and run, and
- 1:07:44Speaker 11: then change clothes.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: I'll give you that one. I mean, even when I
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: watched it, I was like, what are you doing? Like,
- 1:07:49Speaker 7: this is just a bad plan.
- 1:07:50Speaker 9: Let's go to a store, which I would, that store
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: looked pretty awesome.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: I kind of want to go shopping there.
- 1:07:54Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: You know, he breaks in, the alarm's going off, all
- 1:07:56Speaker 9: whoop whoop, and he's sitting there stripping down, changing clothes
- 1:08:00Speaker 9: in the store.
- 1:08:02Speaker 14: I think you just underestimated the Philadelphia police.
- 1:08:05Speaker 7: That crack staff.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: Showed up that quickly.
- 1:08:08Speaker 9: Pittsburgh police. Yeah.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: There's a donut shop somewhere.
- 1:08:12Speaker 7: Right around the corner. But, well, that was my first
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: thing was, dude, it's dark. You're wearing black. Nobody's going
- 1:08:20Speaker 7: to see blood. Just walk home. All you got to
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: worry about is Kuda and just distract him or something.
- 1:08:24Speaker 17: But.
- 1:08:24Speaker 7: I was like, you really don't need to go to
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: this much trouble in a city that's this grimy and
- 1:08:28Speaker 7: dark anyway. It's like, there's not like anybody's going to see.
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: And if they do, the pimps you're walking by probably
- 1:08:33Speaker 7: aren't going to care if you're covered in blood.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Just turn your shirt inside out and go on.
- 1:08:36Speaker 22: Yeah.
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: That one pimp had an awesome outfit.
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: That was cool. The one that started the gunfight. Yeah,
- 1:08:42Speaker 7: he was cool.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: He looked like from I'm Going to Get You Sucked.
- 1:08:45Speaker 7: Yeah. Well, that was, again... In some of the other
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: Romero movies around that time, his street thugs, I mean,
- 1:08:53Speaker 7: you look at the bikers in Dawn of the Dead.
- 1:08:56Speaker 7: Those aren't real world. Those guys would get their asses
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: kicked by real world bikers. so he always has this
- 1:09:01Speaker 7: weird like almost comic book version of like the street
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: punks and bikers and thugs and they're never quite real
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: world yeah.
- 1:09:09Speaker 16: But even at that point i've noticed a lot of
- 1:09:11Speaker 16: like older biker movies and even some of the 80s
- 1:09:14Speaker 16: movies that kind of dealt with like you know these
- 1:09:16Speaker 16: are punks it's like This is what version most people
- 1:09:22Speaker 16: are used to seeing because 90% of moviegoers have never
- 1:09:27Speaker 16: ran into a real thug on the street.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: They never ran into a real group of punks. They
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: weren't all these big steroid, you know, crazy guys with mohawks,
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: you know, and stuff like that. A lot of them
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: were just skinny kids with attitudes. Maybe that's just.
- 1:09:41Speaker 9: How the thugs in Pittsburgh work. Maybe all the real
- 1:09:44Speaker 9: thugs already left.
- 1:09:45Speaker 7: Well, if you want to see the real thugs, I mean,
- 1:09:48Speaker 7: basically all you have to do is go to the
- 1:09:50Speaker 7: grocery in Pittsburgh.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: Yeah, really.
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: You cannot leave the grocery without being hassled by, like,
- 1:09:55Speaker 7: ten guys.
- 1:09:56Speaker 9: Hey, mama.
- 1:09:57Speaker 14: Hey, pretty mama.
- 1:09:58Speaker 7: I do not want to go to the grocery in Pittsburgh.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: I was like, where are these grocery stores? And why
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: do you keep going back?
- 1:10:03Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:10:04Speaker 15: That's why women get their groceries delivered.
- 1:10:07Speaker 7: Yeah, that's true. That's why you get meat brought to
- 1:10:10Speaker 7: your house. Delivering the meat.
- 1:10:13Speaker 14: And then there was that one old bitch who was
- 1:10:15Speaker 14: all like, You're lazy.
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: You're lazy.
- 1:10:19Speaker 9: Why didn't you kill her?
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: And he said, I don't even kill them.
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: And that was that dividing point. That's right. When he
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: started going, I'm letting... And where was she going?
- 1:10:27Speaker 14: What was she doing that was so bad?
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: I was really confused by that.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 1:10:31Speaker 14: She's walking in a shady part of town. She's doing
- 1:10:33Speaker 14: something that was... She was up to no good somehow, but.
- 1:10:36Speaker 7: Well, that whole little montage there is like him running
- 1:10:38Speaker 7: into horrible people and people that he probably should be
- 1:10:41Speaker 7: okay with killing. That old woman and the biker guys
- 1:10:44Speaker 7: that are hassling him on the street and that weird
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: neighbor guy. And it's like he's watching all these people
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: and like these are the people that... need to be
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: taken out, really. I mean, in his world, these are
- 1:10:54Speaker 7: the real evil people. These are the people that are
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: always giving him shit and should be really easy for
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: him to dispose of.
- 1:11:00Speaker 9: He usually went out with a pretty girl.
- 1:11:02Speaker 11: After having sex with that girl, none of the girls
- 1:11:05Speaker 11: were pretty to him anymore.
- 1:11:06Speaker 7: Well, it was both. It was like he'd already gotten
- 1:11:08Speaker 7: to the point he didn't want to the girls weren't
- 1:11:10Speaker 7: pretty enough for him before. And then he's like, well,
- 1:11:12Speaker 7: I just need blood. Maybe I can take out these people,
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: you know, that deserve it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: And he's homeless.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: He'd gotten to his trash.
- 1:11:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: He'd gotten to the point where he didn't really even
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: want to take them out anymore. It really did seem
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: like that last couple of minutes that he was starting
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: to piece together that this really isn't a life and,
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: and I don't need to be doing this. And maybe,
- 1:11:28Speaker 7: you know, again, maybe following suit that the girl left
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: town and it's like, maybe I need to restructure my
- 1:11:34Speaker 7: life because this is fucked up. And, you know, I've, I've,
- 1:11:37Speaker 7: i don't know it seemed like there was a little
- 1:11:39Speaker 7: bit of change or at least a little trying to
- 1:11:42Speaker 7: change and then he got staked yeah he was busy
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: getting staked from that point so he should.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: Have killed the old man then he'd have been all.
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: Right yeah they had a they had a pretty cool
- 1:11:54Speaker 7: house and you know the the granddaughter was cool he
- 1:11:57Speaker 7: could have hung out with her i don't know she
- 1:12:01Speaker 7: did right as long as she didn't make any more
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: stuffed cabbage That's just nasty. I don't want to think
- 1:12:06Speaker 7: about that.
- 1:12:09Speaker 23: Gross.
- 1:12:11Speaker 7: But yeah, to me, I don't think it felt that long.
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: It's like a 90 minute run time, so it's pretty
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: quick as far as I'm concerned, but if you were
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: thinking it drags on, you better be glad the initial
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: cut didn't happen, because the way he originally made it,
- 1:12:23Speaker 7: it's 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: Oh lord. Yeah, that would have been too long.
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: And again, I give him credit for smart editing, because
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: he cut it back to the bare minimum, and I
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: think it runs at a pretty decent pace, and it
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: totally catches you off guard. So I think it's probably
- 1:12:39Speaker 7: much better off having the cuts in there.
- 1:12:41Speaker 15: Yeah, I think some of the, he tends to linger
- 1:12:44Speaker 15: on scenes like the walking scenes and transition scenes takes
- 1:12:48Speaker 15: just a little.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Bit slower pace and a little longer, and that's probably
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: what makes it feel like it's longer. You're like, okay,
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: let's get to the next scene, and you're just kind
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: of a little bit longer than it should be. You know,
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: I like it visually, but I don't necessarily like it for, okay, let's.
- 1:13:02Speaker 7: Go, Probably, but again, almost also keeping in mind this
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: is the first handful of movies he's made. I mean,
- 1:13:10Speaker 7: he did like industrial films for a while, but I mean,
- 1:13:13Speaker 7: Night of the Living Dead was really the first real
- 1:13:14Speaker 7: movie they made.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: But you know, everything moves. In Night of the Living Dead,
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: there's constantly something going on.
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: That's true. There's not a whole lot of.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: But you gotta understand, this is the 70s. This is
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: his life in Pittsburgh, and there's nothing going on. And
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: things probably drag. He didn't have anything interesting happening, except
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: for stabbing guys in.
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: The neck sticks well that's that's the thing him sitting
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: up in the room it's like he didn't even have
- 1:13:38Speaker 7: a phone at that point there's no tv in there
- 1:13:40Speaker 7: so he's playing with that little kid's toy and i'm
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: like this is his whole day no wonder he's out
- 1:13:44Speaker 7: murdering people there's fucking nothing to do every night he
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: gets on the once he gets the phone yeah it's
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: on the.
- 1:13:49Speaker 14: Radio i mean there's no like Well, and the men there....
- 1:14:09Speaker 15: They would go to work and they'd work 10-hour days
- 1:14:11Speaker 15: and they'd come home and they'd be dead because they'd been.
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: They'd eat dinner and go to sleep.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Watch the game.
- 1:14:15Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: You watch the game. You go to work. You come home.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: You watch the game. You do that every night.
- 1:14:19Speaker 19: Yep.
- 1:14:20Speaker 7: Or go out to bars and be a drunk biker
- 1:14:22Speaker 7: like his next-door neighbor. These are your options in this town.
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: There's not a whole lot of other things to do.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: And then they drink. Yeah, they drink.
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:29Speaker 15: Because it's got me in just a pain of probably
- 1:14:31Speaker 15: working in those, you know, in that environment all the time.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: It's tiring. And there's no way out, you know. The heat?
- 1:14:40Speaker 9: Sorry.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: Probably dragging on too long with this.
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: I don't know. I ended up really liking it, but
- 1:14:47Speaker 7: if anybody else has any final words, go for it.
- 1:14:49Speaker 9: I don't like it.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: At all?
- 1:14:52Speaker 15: I think it's something that should be seen. It should
- 1:14:58Speaker 15: be seen. I wondered why no one had... I barely
- 1:15:01Speaker 15: never heard of it. I've never heard of it.
- 1:15:06Speaker 16: She said Martin I was like thinking we were watching
- 1:15:08Speaker 16: like a Martin Lawrence.
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: Film god no please no Black Knights or anything that's what.
- 1:15:14Speaker 14: Someone said I think I'm gonna watch this movie called
- 1:15:18Speaker 14: Martin Martin Lawrence god no I really do think I
- 1:15:27Speaker 14: mean they remake all kinds of stupid shit all the
- 1:15:30Speaker 14: time I really think they should remake this movie.
- 1:15:32Speaker 7: It would be interesting if given to the right people. Again,
- 1:15:35Speaker 7: not Romero at this point, because everything he's done lately,
- 1:15:39Speaker 7: I would much prefer it go to someone else at
- 1:15:42Speaker 7: this point.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: Christopher Nolan.
- 1:15:45Speaker 7: That would be interesting.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: If you've seen Following, that's some creepy stuff.
- 1:15:52Speaker 15: Following people around and living there, breaking into their house
- 1:15:57Speaker 15: to take.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Little trinkets and stuff. That's creepy stuff. He can handle
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: that guy.
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: Or I'm just thinking, look at what he did with
- 1:16:03Speaker 7: Dark Knight. It's like you take a very sensationalized superhero
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: story and make it gritty and real world again and
- 1:16:10Speaker 7: make it like, well, if you had to be a
- 1:16:12Speaker 7: superhero in the real world, this is what you would
- 1:16:15Speaker 7: have to do. And it's kind of that same if
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: you have to be a vampire, if you have to
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: kill people in the real world. I think, yeah, somebody
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: like that would get a hold of it and do
- 1:16:22Speaker 7: something really interesting. So if somebody good would do it,
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: I would watch that. But I still think this one
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: has a lot to offer, but. That is my take.
- 1:16:33Speaker 7: I guess that will round out Martin. We will take
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: a break here and be back with the rest of
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: the show.
- 1:17:16Speaker 22: Jim Rex?
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: What's Jim Rex?
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Would you believe a movie audience guide presented as a
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: public service by this theater's management to help you select
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: your motion picture entertainment? Well, that's what it is.
- 1:17:28Speaker 7: And we urge you to learn these rating symbols and
- 1:17:30Speaker 7: use them as a guide for you and your family.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: G means suggested for general audiences.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: All ages. M.
- 1:17:37Speaker 7: Suggested for mature audiences.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Parental discretion advised. R.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Restricted.
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: Persons under 16 not admitted unless accompanied by parent or
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: adult guardian. X. Persons under 16 will not be admitted.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: This seal in advertising indicates that the film was approved
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: under the motion picture code of self-regulation.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: They started something they can't stop.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: The crazy....
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Something that demands, inclines. Something that brutalizes. It's madness unleashed
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: by human error.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: The crazy.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: And they tame it before time runs out.
- 1:18:28Speaker 24: I'm a key man on the 50 team.
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: A key man.
- 1:18:30Speaker 8: I'm one of the developers of that goddamn thing.
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: Now, if you want me to get that job done,
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: you get me the stuff I need, and you get
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: the hell out of here before the morning's over.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: A small town becomes a giant stockade. Evans City must
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: be contained or leveled. We're all concerned with Evans City, Mr. Hawks.
- 1:18:51Speaker 14: If we have to push the button, would you say
- 1:18:52Speaker 14: the weapon went off? Get me the president.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: 3,614 people are trapped by an unknown enemy.
- 1:19:12Speaker 22: Five are on the run.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: Can they escape the spreading fury of the crazy? Welcome
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: to a night of total terror.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: That's Mickey Mouse's penis. They don't look to be afraid.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: They look to be shocked.
- 1:19:37Speaker 14: Here's vagina.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: Did you see Miley Cyrus' globulous breasts?
- 1:19:44Speaker 22: Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:19:47Speaker 9: I found more syrup on my pants.
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: Bizarre adventure in fear. There was, however, a guy using.
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: An experience in shock. More shattering than your strangest nightmare.
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: Pain and pleasure.
- 1:20:01Speaker 22: Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:20:05Speaker 9: Ass to mouth is fantastic.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: Holy shit! That just happened. What's that bad man doing
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: to my donkey? A night of total terror. I can't
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: maintain this level of ridiculousness.
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: They made a song.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: Night of the Living Podcast.
- 1:20:32Speaker 22: Of The Living Podcast.
- 1:20:35Speaker 9: My mom wants to do this show!
- 1:20:40Speaker 7: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:20:43Speaker 7: All of life's riddles are answered.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: In the movies.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: And now, on with the show.
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: By the way, don't take the time to watch the
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: Joaquin Phoenix. It's not the Joaquin Phoenix.
- 1:21:22Speaker 7: The bio. The fake bio?
- 1:21:24Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: That is so... I was like, okay.
- 1:21:27Speaker 7: I considered it because I saw it on there.
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: So many people said it was... I looked at it
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: and said, you know what? Fuck Joaquin Phoenix.
- 1:21:32Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:21:33Speaker 25: Fuck you and your fucking stupid ass beard.
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: I don't give a fuck. I thought maybe it's genius.
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: I thought maybe it's genius and I'm going to watch it.
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: I got like.
- 1:21:41Speaker 15: 40 minutes into it, I was like, this is the
- 1:21:43Speaker 15: biggest fucking waste of my time.
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: Well, it's not genius. Because nobody fucking cares.
- 1:21:47Speaker 7: Well, but they ruined it themselves.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:21:49Speaker 7: Like, they should have waited, like, years before they told people.
- 1:21:53Speaker 7: What happened?
- 1:21:53Speaker 14: I'm confused.
- 1:21:54Speaker 7: I mean, it was all fake. It was all... That
- 1:21:56Speaker 7: whole thing of him with the crazy beard and being
- 1:21:58Speaker 7: out of his mind and having a rap career and
- 1:22:01Speaker 7: all of that shit for, like, a year of his life.
- 1:22:03Speaker 7: He did that. And it was all fake. It was
- 1:22:05Speaker 7: all an act that they were doing, shooting this documentary...
- 1:22:09Speaker 7: He quit acting. He quit acting to be a rap star.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: By good.
- 1:22:14Speaker 7: By good. All of that crazy shit was all fake.
- 1:22:17Speaker 7: So that's what I've heard. His version of the fact
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: that he did all that and how committed he was
- 1:22:24Speaker 7: is kind of impressive. And just how good at being
- 1:22:27Speaker 7: that he was. But then they're like, the movie's kind
- 1:22:29Speaker 7: of crap.
- 1:22:30Speaker 15: It's very poorly done. I thought, okay, this will be
- 1:22:34Speaker 15: interesting if they pulled off something good. But it's not
- 1:22:37Speaker 15: like Andy Kaufman could do something that you didn't know if.
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: He really was doing.
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: It was never revealed if he was.
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: I bought that he was that crazy.
- 1:22:47Speaker 15: And you're like, is he fucking with us or not?
- 1:22:50Speaker 15: And then you never knew. And it was still good.
- 1:22:55Speaker 15: Whatever he was doing was still good.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: This was just crap. Don't waste your time. I turned
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: it off and I don't turn stuff off.
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: Alright, we're back and we've got feedback. really yeah from
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: from various sources but um randy one of well several
- 1:23:15Speaker 7: but the first one was actually on the site which
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: i don't even usually check so i i don't even
- 1:23:21Speaker 7: recommend that version but um Yeah, I say just send
- 1:23:24Speaker 7: us an email or call it in. But this one
- 1:23:26Speaker 7: is from LT. He left a post that said, it
- 1:23:29Speaker 7: was on the Joe Bob Texas Chainsaw Massacre episode. And
- 1:23:32Speaker 7: he said, this was an excellent interview with Joe Bob Briggs.
- 1:23:34Speaker 7: It's good to hear new material after all these years
- 1:23:37Speaker 7: that isn't a DVD track. He also says you're a
- 1:23:39Speaker 7: good interviewer, which I am very thankful for because I
- 1:23:42Speaker 7: tried to put a lot into, and his was a
- 1:23:45Speaker 7: weird one because his started off sort of interview, you know,
- 1:23:49Speaker 7: kind of talking about him, you know, the 20 years
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: before this. stuff he used to do on the show
- 1:23:54Speaker 7: and stuff that, you know, when I worked in, in
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: with him doing the, the movie reviews and stuff. So
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: a lot of that was kind of cool. And then
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: tying it into just talking about the movie. So it was,
- 1:24:03Speaker 7: that one took a little more planning of, of how
- 1:24:06Speaker 7: to sort of ease from one thing into the next. So, uh, yeah,
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: I was kind of happy with how that episode turned out.
- 1:24:11Speaker 7: So it's kind of good to hear somebody else appreciated it.
- 1:24:14Speaker 7: So it's getting pretty good response. So if you haven't
- 1:24:17Speaker 7: heard it yet, go check out the, uh, Joe Bob
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: Briggs episode. And we also heard from Randy. And some
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: of these were just on the forum. So if you're
- 1:24:28Speaker 7: not on, however, get on over there. But some of
- 1:24:31Speaker 7: these were just, I didn't know if you'd seen them.
- 1:24:33Speaker 7: So he wanted to, and this was for you two
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: definitely because you were there last time out. He was
- 1:24:37Speaker 7: commenting on our Christmas show. He says, listening to this,
- 1:24:40Speaker 7: driving around on the job, Christmas Eve. First time in
- 1:24:44Speaker 7: years I've actually enjoyed something Christmassy. I think of all
- 1:24:48Speaker 7: the pre-podcast years where I'd be stuck listening to the
- 1:24:50Speaker 7: same goddamn Bruce Springsteen Santa songs. Those were dark times.
- 1:24:55Speaker 7: Long live movie meltdown. And then, I didn't know if
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: everyone had seen it. I actually put a post on
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: there because I'm trying to, I still for like months
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: now have been saying we need to update the bio
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: section there and we're going to get you in there.
- 1:25:11Speaker 7: And I still don't think you're on there either, Marlena.
- 1:25:13Speaker 7: So we're going to update it and I was going
- 1:25:15Speaker 7: to throw it out there for people to give us
- 1:25:17Speaker 7: you know different questions other than the few that i
- 1:25:19Speaker 7: came up with that first.
- 1:25:20Speaker 14: Time like a form spring or whatever it's called the
- 1:25:23Speaker 14: question thing question.
- 1:25:24Speaker 7: And answer kind of but a lot of those are
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: ridiculous i mean if there were ones i was originally
- 1:25:29Speaker 7: tying it more to movies these are more of just
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: like specific to people i mean not even like because
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: before i did like a set of questions and everybody
- 1:25:38Speaker 7: answered the same questions some of these are more specific
- 1:25:41Speaker 7: to individuals so i thought maybe i'd just throw them
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: out here on the show There's one here I might
- 1:25:45Speaker 7: sort of throw in there.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:25:46Speaker 7: But his first question is, where the fuck are you,
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: Roger and Joni?
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:51Speaker 7: To that, I don't know. I hate to tell you. Yeah,
- 1:25:55Speaker 7: it's been quite a while since I've heard from them.
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: They're still out there. I hope they're doing fine.
- 1:26:01Speaker 14: Joni commented on my Facebook once.
- 1:26:02Speaker 7: Yes, I mean, they're still on Facebook.
- 1:26:04Speaker 9: Still alive.
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: We know they're alive.
- 1:26:06Speaker 9: I know, right?
- 1:26:08Speaker 8: If you guys.
- 1:26:09Speaker 22: If you.
- 1:26:10Speaker 7: Guys are their friends on Facebook, you can send them
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: a message. Harass them.
- 1:26:14Speaker 14: Harass them.
- 1:26:14Speaker 7: Send them a message. Say that they are missed. Or
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: at least that you want to have them come back
- 1:26:18Speaker 7: so that you can yell at them.
- 1:26:19Speaker 9: Or just get some closure.
- 1:26:20Speaker 7: Whichever.
- 1:26:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: We need closure.
- 1:26:22Speaker 15: Make sure that somebody hasn't hijacked your account. You're not dead.
- 1:26:26Speaker 7: You're dead, but they're still every couple of days going,
- 1:26:29Speaker 7: feeding the cat. Going to the grocery. That's all you've
- 1:26:33Speaker 7: got to do. And people would still think you're alive
- 1:26:34Speaker 7: for like months, really. That's the world we live in now.
- 1:26:37Speaker 7: You could kill someone. People wouldn't know as long as
- 1:26:40Speaker 7: you updated their Facebook status. Send out a tweet every
- 1:26:43Speaker 7: once in a while. People would just be like, oh, no,
- 1:26:45Speaker 7: they're fine. I saw their post the other day.
- 1:26:46Speaker 14: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:26:48Speaker 7: All right. So this one is specifically he wants some
- 1:26:53Speaker 7: background details on the rise of Greg. And it's supposed
- 1:26:56Speaker 7: to be set to the theme of Terminator 2. So
- 1:27:00Speaker 7: it's kicking in right now. Go for it.
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: Do you want to work on that one? I can
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: work on that. The Rise of Greg. I didn't know
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: it had risen.
- 1:27:12Speaker 7: You're to the heights of being a star of this
- 1:27:16Speaker 7: fabulous show.
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: Somebody that once listened to the show and now.
- 1:27:19Speaker 7: People around the world love this. Last time we heard
- 1:27:22Speaker 7: from Australia.
- 1:27:23Speaker 14: Dream a little dream.
- 1:27:25Speaker 7: There you go.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: You too.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:27:27Speaker 14: You too can be on a podcast.
- 1:27:29Speaker 7: Yes. Yeah, not everybody can do a podcast.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: I started hitchhiking out in Wichita with dreams one day
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: of being on the show.
- 1:27:37Speaker 9: Not just this show.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: Right, this show. This show. I moved to the region.
- 1:27:42Speaker 7: Just to be on the show. You were in a
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: whole different area. You couldn't have been sitting here. So, yeah,
- 1:27:48Speaker 7: just thank your lucky star every single day. All right, Misty.
- 1:27:55Speaker 7: That's what you thought in the mind. What is Misty
- 1:27:58Speaker 7: hoping to hate in the new year?
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: Nutrition.
- 1:28:01Speaker 7: Magicians Magicians Just magicians.
- 1:28:04Speaker 9: Card tricks Coin tricks Exceptionally.
- 1:28:06Speaker 7: Alright Especially not exceptionally Especially Especially.
- 1:28:11Speaker 9: Even worse Be a ginger magician Oh I like that.
- 1:28:16Speaker 7: Right now Alright Ginger magician Magic Magicians Tricks in general
- 1:28:23Speaker 7: Yeah keep them away from Misty That's what we're taking.
- 1:28:25Speaker 11: From this I'm sure I have many more things, and
- 1:28:26Speaker 11: I'm sure I'll continue to hate the things that I
- 1:28:28Speaker 11: hated last year.
- 1:28:29Speaker 7: Oh, I'm sure. This one I think is going to
- 1:28:33Speaker 7: be met with a puzzled look. Possibly... A head tilt?
- 1:28:36Speaker 7: Possibly a puppy head tilt of.
- 1:28:39Speaker 14: Is it for me?
- 1:28:40Speaker 7: Yes. What is Marlena's metachlorian count?
- 1:28:43Speaker 14: My medical?
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: Metachlorian count.
- 1:28:45Speaker 14: Metachlorian count. I have no idea. Is it some Star
- 1:28:49Speaker 14: Trek shit?
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: It's Star Wars.
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: Star Wars, technically.
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: And it is some shit because... It is shit.
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: Metachlorians They're bullshit.
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: It's bullshit.
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: Any real Star Wars fan will tell you, fuck Metachlorians. Yeah,
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: I know. I was in the theater.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: My friend dragged me along to see that movie. I
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: didn't want to see it, but he dragged me. Hey,
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: you've got to turn down a free movie.
- 1:29:09Speaker 16: We're sitting in the theater, and all these kids are
- 1:29:11Speaker 16: in there, and they start talking about the Metachlorians.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: I fell asleep through most of the beginning, but I
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: ended up waking up to that point, and loudly in
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: the theater, this was Showcase, he said, Metachlorians.
- 1:29:21Speaker 20: I was like, the fuck i know i mean they
- 1:29:27Speaker 20: could have it was fucking liam neeson as a new
- 1:29:30Speaker 20: jedi and you fucking ruin it yeah yeah talking about midichlorians.
- 1:29:34Speaker 7: It's bad enough that they.
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: Freshen your breath well.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: It's bad enough they then made you know they totally
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: took the jedi ways and turned them into hippie bullshit
- 1:29:43Speaker 7: i mean by the time they were dead we really
- 1:29:46Speaker 7: didn't know a lot of what about you know about
- 1:29:47Speaker 7: what was going on with the way that they work
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: so when you go back and see them in their
- 1:29:51Speaker 7: heyday you're like what a bunch of fucking hippies wearing
- 1:29:55Speaker 7: robes and long hair and being peaceful yeah leave the.
- 1:30:00Speaker 15: Mystery and stuff don't attach science to myth.
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: Well then again it was all very they were still
- 1:30:05Speaker 7: very mythological like and then they jammed this weird science
- 1:30:09Speaker 7: fact in the middle of it I was like now
- 1:30:10Speaker 7: they're a bunch of hippies but now they're fucking scientists
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: and they're checking scientist hippies yeah I was like what
- 1:30:15Speaker 7: is this bullshit damn you George Lucas you should have
- 1:30:19Speaker 7: stopped making movies with Star Wars That's the last decent
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: movie you made.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 1:30:28Speaker 7: Now, this one, I think we may have found a
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: way around it. We may have remedied it already. It's
- 1:30:33Speaker 7: for Jay, but if we just show up here at
- 1:30:36Speaker 7: his house, he doesn't have to worry about this. He
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: was requesting the occasional call-in from Jay. Because he's too
- 1:30:42Speaker 7: busy preventing delinquency or posting Misty's bail is the way
- 1:30:45Speaker 7: he puts it.
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: Preventing delinquency?
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: Just being a parent.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: Oh, I thought I was contributing towards delinquency.
- 1:30:53Speaker 7: No, you're already a delinquent, but you're trying to keep
- 1:30:56Speaker 7: the next generation from being a delinquent.
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: I've never had to close my veil. I've never been
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: in a veil.
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: No, no.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: Misty, thankfully, hasn't been in jail for beating any magicians yet.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: The year has just begun. Don't rent the prestige.
- 1:31:09Speaker 14: Jessica also hates magicians with a violent passion.
- 1:31:14Speaker 9: She started a club for anti-magicians.
- 1:31:16Speaker 7: She's going to be wandering the streets waiting for a
- 1:31:18Speaker 7: magician rumble.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: My cousin's a magician. I don't want your cousin. How
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: far related.
- 1:31:28Speaker 16: He's a bird, so it's on my grandmother's side.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: I thought it.
- 1:31:33Speaker 9: Was close enough for me to have a dislike for you.
- 1:31:36Speaker 24: No.
- 1:31:36Speaker 15: You can't have a dislike.
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: He has magic in his blood. The force is strong
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: with this one.
- 1:31:46Speaker 9: You're going to get punched.
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: Somebody told me it was a good way to pick
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: up chicks. I did it once. He's like, you know what?
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: This is the dumbest thing. I was like, who the
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: hell am I going to pick up a damn car?
- 1:31:59Speaker 7: That's a lie. Yeah, that is chick repellent.
- 1:32:02Speaker 14: I violently hate men who like.
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: Slip a roofie under their.
- 1:32:06Speaker 7: I don't know if that's magic. It's just day rape.
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: You violently what?
- 1:32:10Speaker 14: I violently hate magicians. I mean, like... I hate magicians too.
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: It's not just me.
- 1:32:16Speaker 14: All women hate them.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: One of my friends is a long time ago... Long,
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: long time ago.
- 1:32:21Speaker 14: He was just trying to be a dick.
- 1:32:23Speaker 9: Yeah, in Florida.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: He was like, you want to pick up chicks today?
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: This is what you do.
- 1:32:27Speaker 25: You need to pick up a thing because you don't smoke.
- 1:32:29Speaker 25: I didn't smoke, but I hung out with a lot
- 1:32:31Speaker 25: of guys who smoked. And there were always chicks at
- 1:32:33Speaker 25: the bar that smoked. And so I couldn't be like, hey,
- 1:32:35Speaker 25: you want a cigarette? Or they would come up and say,
- 1:32:38Speaker 25: can I have a cigarette? And I'd be like, I
- 1:32:39Speaker 25: don't smoke.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: And they're like, oh. And then they'd walk off.
- 1:32:42Speaker 25: And you don't have, they would try to look for
- 1:32:44Speaker 25: that kind of entrance into a, into a conversation and
- 1:32:47Speaker 25: I just kill it by saying, I don't smoke.
- 1:32:49Speaker 7: And you're a loser because you do.
- 1:32:51Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: That's like, fuck off.
- 1:32:52Speaker 7: Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:32:53Speaker 25: I used to blow a lot of people off and
- 1:32:55Speaker 25: I never really realized it. So he was like, what
- 1:32:57Speaker 25: you got to do is you got to work at
- 1:32:58Speaker 25: a car trip. And I'd be like, no, but you
- 1:32:59Speaker 25: can pick this car. And I was like, okay, I guess.
- 1:33:03Speaker 25: And I read it and I'm like, I'm a dick
- 1:33:07Speaker 25: and I'm a douchebag.
- 1:33:09Speaker 14: Oh my God. That reminds me.
- 1:33:12Speaker 18: Sorry.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: I got rid of that real quick.
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: I think he was just working you.
- 1:33:16Speaker 25: Yeah, I was like, okay, am I going to be
- 1:33:18Speaker 25: the guy at the bar that does card tricks or.
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: Flips a Zippo and doesn't smoke? I was both of
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: those at one point. Or a second.
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: I think he's working you. Like I said, just a second.
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: one side he's over on the other side of the
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: bar and as they leave in a huff he's like
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: doing that guy lame hey come over here i got
- 1:33:34Speaker 7: a cigarette for you he goes up you.
- 1:33:36Speaker 15: Want to watch something funny look at this dude.
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: Watch this girl shoot him down.
- 1:33:42Speaker 14: That's so true so true i just realized something a
- 1:33:46Speaker 14: couple weeks ago i went out with my friend to
- 1:33:48Speaker 14: dinner and her roommate and her roommate's best friend came
- 1:33:50Speaker 14: along and he had been magicians yeah he was um
- 1:33:55Speaker 14: But I'd block this out until just now. But I just,
- 1:33:58Speaker 14: I usually don't know if a guy's interested in me
- 1:34:00Speaker 14: because they're usually not. But this guy was and I
- 1:34:03Speaker 14: could tell and he used to have a ponytail. So
- 1:34:06Speaker 14: he grosses me out. Just for that fact, because I've
- 1:34:11Speaker 14: seen him. He doesn't have it now, but I've seen
- 1:34:13Speaker 14: him with the ponytail. So I'm like.
- 1:34:17Speaker 7: Residual ponytail damage. I can still see it. I know
- 1:34:20Speaker 7: it's there.
- 1:34:21Speaker 9: Phantom ponytail.
- 1:34:22Speaker 7: Yeah. He has phantom ponytail pains.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:34:25Speaker 14: Phantom ponytail. And we were like sitting to dinner and
- 1:34:28Speaker 14: he was like, he was trying to be like, oh,
- 1:34:31Speaker 14: I'm going to drive real fast in my Jeep. I'm
- 1:34:33Speaker 14: so tough. I'm going to turn my music up real loud.
- 1:34:36Speaker 14: And then he was like, pick a card. And I
- 1:34:39Speaker 14: looked at him and I said, are you fucking kidding me? Oh, wow.
- 1:34:42Speaker 7: Pick a card.
- 1:34:46Speaker 14: I blocked that out, but I just remembered that.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: Watch me make my penis disappear. It just shrivels up.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:34:52Speaker 14: Wow. So there you go.
- 1:34:54Speaker 17: Magicians.
- 1:34:54Speaker 22: No magic tricks.
- 1:35:04Speaker 14: Girls don't find it attractive.
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: I like how all of our answers to every question
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: have been, fuck magicians. We've had five questions they've all
- 1:35:14Speaker 7: ended with, you know magicians, stay away from them.
- 1:35:16Speaker 20: We know somewhere out there in podcast land there's a
- 1:35:19Speaker 20: magician listening to this, or several magicians.
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: I'm going to get pissed off right now.
- 1:35:25Speaker 15: There's going to be a red-headed magician that's going to be.
- 1:35:27Speaker 22: Like, I'm going to.
- 1:35:29Speaker 14: That fucking bitch.
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: If we've learned anything from the movie today, there is
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: no magic. That's our theme for this entire half of
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: the episode. There is no magic.
- 1:35:39Speaker 9: Let's keep it that way.
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: He does round out the questions, and actually this one
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: is sort of already on there, but we'll readdress it,
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: I guess, and post the other people's versions on there.
- 1:35:50Speaker 7: He did ask for a distinct childhood memory involving a movie,
- 1:35:54Speaker 7: which I think we already have one, because I know
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: I have mine of seeing Star Wars, and Misty had Beastmaster,
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: and I think yours was going to showcase too, Jay.
- 1:36:01Speaker 7: So I think we already have a version of that
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: on there.
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: Well, it depends on which one you're wanting.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: First movie I remember seeing was Batman.
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: This is any anecdote that comes springing to mind will do.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: I was going to say, theology of terror really scared
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: the shit out of me when I was a kid.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: I was always afraid that men's fetish dolls were going to.
- 1:36:20Speaker 14: Come get me. I remember the first movie I saw
- 1:36:22Speaker 14: in theaters was a Batman movie, and I'd never been
- 1:36:25Speaker 14: in a theater before, and it was dark, and there
- 1:36:27Speaker 14: were lights on the ground, and I was with my
- 1:36:28Speaker 14: grandma and my whole family, and I was just confused.
- 1:36:32Speaker 14: I'm like, what the fuck is this place? I'm like,
- 1:36:34Speaker 14: what the fuck is this place? What's going on?
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: Why is this kid staring at the floor the whole time?
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: What is wrong with this girl?
- 1:36:41Speaker 14: That was a really weird.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: Check out this kid over here.
- 1:36:46Speaker 14: And then, I remember when I was little, my mom
- 1:36:48Speaker 14: took me to see Die Hard, and that was like...
- 1:36:51Speaker 14: pure torture whatever that's awesome i will not watch that
- 1:36:54Speaker 14: movie to this day because my mom took me to
- 1:36:57Speaker 14: see it when i was young and i was like
- 1:36:59Speaker 14: are you fucking kidding me well.
- 1:37:01Speaker 7: That's just bad mother right there we know that that's
- 1:37:04Speaker 7: another running theme for.
- 1:37:05Speaker 14: This yeah but i mean like die hard like a
- 1:37:08Speaker 14: small child saying die hard though it was just pure
- 1:37:11Speaker 14: torture i think i like crawl around on the floor.
- 1:37:15Speaker 7: You're obsessed with the floor in movie theater. Which, by
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: the way, is a gross play.
- 1:37:19Speaker 17: No!
- 1:37:20Speaker 14: But I didn't want to watch Die Hard. It was like...
- 1:37:23Speaker 14: The first.
- 1:37:24Speaker 9: Movie I saw in the theater was one of the Ernest.
- 1:37:26Speaker 9: I'm pretty sure it was Ernest Goes to Camp at
- 1:37:28Speaker 9: the Dollar.
- 1:37:29Speaker 7: Classic.
- 1:37:29Speaker 14: That's pretty cool.
- 1:37:30Speaker 9: My grandma took me and my cousin Aaron. I'm pretty
- 1:37:33Speaker 9: sure we're covered in mud. What are we going to
- 1:37:37Speaker 9: see in Ernest?
- 1:37:38Speaker 14: Aaron's the cousin that died?
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:40Speaker 7: It's like theme you know you go into camp covered
- 1:37:43Speaker 7: in dirt oh the bats that's a good.
- 1:37:47Speaker 13: The first movie i remember seeing over and over again
- 1:37:48Speaker 13: like as i've said would be the beast master god
- 1:37:52Speaker 13: i watched that movie so many.
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: Damn times i watched that to death on cable in
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: the theater again i think that was.
- 1:37:59Speaker 9: My story what hbo stood for.
- 1:38:05Speaker 7: And that's why I've seen it 10 million times. See,
- 1:38:07Speaker 7: that's the thing.
- 1:38:08Speaker 11: We didn't even have HBO, so we got, like, the
- 1:38:10Speaker 11: regular straight-to-TV version of it.
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: Oh, that's worse.
- 1:38:13Speaker 15: I had it on VHS from when you get the
- 1:38:14Speaker 15: free preview of the, like, Showtime or HBO, and I
- 1:38:18Speaker 15: recorded it and watched it.
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: That was, yeah, that's my story on there. That's what
- 1:38:23Speaker 7: it is. I bought my first blank VHS tape to
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: record Beastmaster. That is why I bought it. It's fucking awesome.
- 1:38:29Speaker 9: I'm still, in love with Mark Singer.
- 1:38:31Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 1:38:32Speaker 15: First movie I ever saw, we got a VCR because
- 1:38:35Speaker 15: our house had been broken in two.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: So my dad had this money from the TV. It
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: was more expensive than, you know. And so he's like, well,
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: I got a bit by a VCR too.
- 1:38:43Speaker 15: And went to the store and I had, seen at
- 1:38:48Speaker 15: the grocery store where the movies were i had seen.
- 1:38:51Speaker 10: The box for kroll i thought this was gonna be
- 1:38:55Speaker 10: the most awesome movie ever and i was like i
- 1:38:58Speaker 10: want that movie i've been wanting that movie since i
- 1:39:00Speaker 10: knew about what a vcr was they've had it here
- 1:39:02Speaker 10: at kroger i think it was win dixie is what
- 1:39:05Speaker 10: it was used to carry a movie and and we
- 1:39:08Speaker 10: we bought it and They kept sticking it in and
- 1:39:10Speaker 10: playing it, and they couldn't get the hold right. That
- 1:39:12Speaker 10: was back then when each channel had to be specifically
- 1:39:15Speaker 10: dialed in.
- 1:39:15Speaker 7: You had to adjust your tracking with a little knob.
- 1:39:20Speaker 15: I kept telling them, I don't want to see the
- 1:39:22Speaker 15: movie when I can't see the movie.
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: And they're like, don't worry, we'll roll it.
- 1:39:25Speaker 15: Back until the very beginning of the tape, and you
- 1:39:28Speaker 15: can watch it.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: And I remember thinking... The box is so much cooler
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: than the movie.
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: See, if ever there was an example of video boxes
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: that warped my brain, you were sold on that one,
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: surely on the video box. That's awesome.
- 1:39:45Speaker 15: I remember going to the theaters plenty as a kid,
- 1:39:48Speaker 15: but that was the moment that I couldn't believe that
- 1:39:52Speaker 15: you could put something into a VCR and watch a movie.
- 1:39:57Speaker 7: The first movie we.
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: Had was The Heavenly Kid. My dad got a VCR for.
- 1:40:01Speaker 11: That's where a kid got killed in the subway or something.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: I don't remember, but that was the first movie. The
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: second movie we watched was Cannonball Hunt.
- 1:40:07Speaker 14: Nice.
- 1:40:08Speaker 7: I don't even remember what we first started watching on VHS.
- 1:40:10Speaker 7: I kind of remember that theater stuff, but yeah, VHS,
- 1:40:14Speaker 7: it all just became a big blur. I mean, I
- 1:40:16Speaker 7: watched so much stuff.
- 1:40:17Speaker 25: We got top salesman of the year.
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: And his prize was a VCR, and that was back
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: when VCRs were like, you know, you remember, they.
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: Were like $ 200, $ 300.
- 1:40:27Speaker 4: Like $ 1, 000.
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: They were more than that.
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's what we did.
- 1:40:31Speaker 25: We went to the little supermarket down the street.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: It was a little, like, gas and go. It was
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: a mom and pop shop, and they.
- 1:40:38Speaker 26: Had that back wall that had all the fucking VCR
- 1:40:43Speaker 26: covers that you would go up there and pick one,
- 1:40:45Speaker 26: and then you could rent it for, like, one or
- 1:40:47Speaker 26: two nights, and then you had to bring it back.
- 1:40:50Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: They charged you if you didn't rewind it. But yeah,
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: just going through, I remember as a kid, I was
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: with my dad. It was my mom and my dad
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: and me. And he's like, we're going to go pick
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: out a movie. And I'm looking at all these movies
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: and I'm just like, you know, it's a ninja movie.
- 1:41:05Speaker 4: You know, dad's like, no, not that one. And I'm like,
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: oh man, what about this army movie?
- 1:41:10Speaker 14: No, not that one.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: What about Night of the Living Dead? No, no, not
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: that one. Oh God, man, come on, you got to
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: pick something cool. I was like, cool we get these
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: ninja movies and now we got the heavenly kid and
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: I was like man come.
- 1:41:25Speaker 9: On that's not the one I was thinking of.
- 1:41:30Speaker 11: I remember being my cousin Stevie and Aaron we used
- 1:41:32Speaker 11: to go play Jason.
- 1:41:33Speaker 18: Out in the woods which involved the tools for the
- 1:41:37Speaker 18: fireplace of course until my grandma realized what we were
- 1:41:40Speaker 18: doing or what Jason was it's good that she's you
- 1:41:44Speaker 18: know on top of her horror movies.
- 1:41:47Speaker 9: Yeah, they're the two of us playing. Yeah, especially like
- 1:41:50Speaker 9: the tool, I guess it's like the long grabber.
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: You kids did not need to be playing with those tools.
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: I remember you kids in action. That's trouble. I've seen
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: the videos.
- 1:42:00Speaker 22: I've seen the videos.
- 1:42:01Speaker 7: They're scary.
- 1:42:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I remember that. I don't even think I'd seen
- 1:42:05Speaker 9: Jason at that point, but I knew enough about it.
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: To know that they didn't. It's a game at that point. Yeah,
- 1:42:10Speaker 7: I mean, every kid, I think, had that. Come on,
- 1:42:11Speaker 7: let's play, and you could just name a movie or
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: a character from a movie, and it became a game.
- 1:42:16Speaker 7: It's like every... neighborhood you gotta come get me you
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: gotta come.
- 1:42:20Speaker 9: Kill me kill me with the fireplace.
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: Tool I'm gonna kill you you can't get me.
- 1:42:25Speaker 15: I remember there was a kid that was several years
- 1:42:27Speaker 15: younger four or five years younger than me that lived
- 1:42:29Speaker 15: behind me and his family.
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: Was kind of messed up anyway that the.
- 1:42:35Speaker 15: Uncle's coming over and the dad's coming over and you
- 1:42:38Speaker 15: don't really know who's the real dad.
- 1:42:40Speaker 12: That kind of family that kind of family and grandma
- 1:42:43Speaker 12: it was grandma's house but everybody just kind of came
- 1:42:45Speaker 12: and went and the kid was always there And I
- 1:42:48Speaker 12: remember him reenacting the scene where Tommy's hacking the guy
- 1:42:51Speaker 12: up and.
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: They're screaming for him. And he's just yelling, die, die, die.
- 1:42:57Speaker 15: And he's several years younger than me. I'm like 12
- 1:43:01Speaker 15: and he's like 7. And I'm thinking, even then I'm like,
- 1:43:04Speaker 15: this kid is.
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: Fucked up. And he is. He's not quite right.
- 1:43:11Speaker 9: In the head.
- 1:43:12Speaker 7: To prove the point, yep, don't let your kids watch this.
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: The kind of stuff that we grew up on.
- 1:43:17Speaker 15: He's like an enforcer for like a loan shark or
- 1:43:19Speaker 15: something like that now.
- 1:43:21Speaker 7: That all seems fine.
- 1:43:22Speaker 9: I remember watching Candyman. I guess I came out in what?
- 1:43:26Speaker 7: 92 maybe?
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: 90 or 92.
- 1:43:28Speaker 7: I was singing.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: In the bathroom. Everybody be quiet. Now the water's running.
- 1:43:37Speaker 13: But anyways, I remember watching Candyman when it came out
- 1:43:40Speaker 13: in 92 and I was probably about 12 and I
- 1:43:41Speaker 13: remember just being absolutely petrified to go in the bathroom
- 1:43:44Speaker 13: because my grandma had one of these mirrors that ran
- 1:43:46Speaker 13: the entire length of the counter so it was like
- 1:43:47Speaker 13: longer than like my arm span so I was petrified
- 1:43:50Speaker 13: to go in the bathroom but like I see in
- 1:43:51Speaker 13: the mirror Candyman's gonna come get me so I made
- 1:43:54Speaker 13: her take.
- 1:43:55Speaker 9: The mirror out of the bathroom for like a week
- 1:43:57Speaker 9: because I was too afraid to go in.
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: You know I can't blame you because I still think
- 1:44:02Speaker 7: Candyman's a scary movie especially as a kid.
- 1:44:05Speaker 11: It is yeah yeah I don't know if we watched
- 1:44:09Speaker 11: that one of the times when you know me, Stevie
- 1:44:11Speaker 11: and Aaron and one of us would have to sit
- 1:44:12Speaker 11: in like the hallway and keep watch to make sure
- 1:44:13Speaker 11: she wasn't coming or your mom or my.
- 1:44:16Speaker 9: Grandma when we watched Candyman Yeah. We'd do that. We'd
- 1:44:20Speaker 9: sit and try to watch the scrambled porn channel.
- 1:44:22Speaker 7: Well, we all played that game. What is that?
- 1:44:29Speaker 9: Oh.
- 1:44:29Speaker 7: We never got that.
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: We didn't have cable. We had three channels.
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: It was like you couldn't really see it because.
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: It was the.
- 1:44:36Speaker 7: If you turn it.
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: My buddy had satellite. He had the spice channel because
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: his dad ordered the spice channel.
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we walked in on his dad one time. what
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: are you kids.
- 1:44:46Speaker 20: Doing home from school so early we're all like just.
- 1:44:51Speaker 9: Dance on the couch jerking off stop it that's.
- 1:44:53Speaker 20: Not yeah he is I just got out of the
- 1:44:57Speaker 20: shower you kids go outside and play.
- 1:45:00Speaker 7: And he never lived that down and now that kid
- 1:45:03Speaker 7: is fucked up as well he is Martin yup he
- 1:45:08Speaker 7: has become that there's nothing worse than.
- 1:45:09Speaker 14: Like I've never had that happen but that's a pretty
- 1:45:13Speaker 14: traumatic thing I've never caught my parents in the act,
- 1:45:17Speaker 14: but I think, like, my ex-boyfriend's mom caught me, and
- 1:45:19Speaker 14: that was awkward.
- 1:45:22Speaker 7: Yeah, that's sort of in reverse and weird.
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: Not just me, but us.
- 1:45:26Speaker 15: A friend of mine, he said his parents' room was
- 1:45:28Speaker 15: right next to his, and he said he heard his parents.
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: All the time.
- 1:45:32Speaker 8: That's even creepier.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: I think that's really, and he got, eventually he said,
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: I'm going to sleep in the basement because that's just creepy.
- 1:45:39Speaker 7: Not even just the act, but the all the time part.
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: Right, right.
- 1:45:44Speaker 7: Creepy traumatized is what.
- 1:45:48Speaker 11: We take we'd have to watch the hallway make sure
- 1:45:53Speaker 11: grandma wasn't coming downstairs I'd have to be with some
- 1:45:55Speaker 11: buttheads who weren't allowed.
- 1:45:56Speaker 7: To watch equally as offensive as porn yeah.
- 1:46:00Speaker 13: I was petrified after watching Candyman.
- 1:46:04Speaker 7: It's still kind of creepy it's an amazingly impressive movie.
- 1:46:09Speaker 9: I tried to rent Fritz the Cat once, and Mom
- 1:46:11Speaker 9: wouldn't let me.
- 1:46:12Speaker 7: That's what we need to do.
- 1:46:13Speaker 9: Fritz the Cat?
- 1:46:14Speaker 7: Fritz the Cat. It's very different than I expected.
- 1:46:18Speaker 9: Well, I was a kid, and I would have kitty
- 1:46:19Speaker 9: cats on the cover, and it was cartoon.
- 1:46:21Speaker 7: All right, we're throwing that in the mix then.
- 1:46:23Speaker 9: I didn't say I wanted to see it now.
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: Too bad.
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: I was like, come.
- 1:46:29Speaker 10: On.
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: So hopefully that has sufficed for your... Are you.
- 1:46:34Speaker 9: Sniffing or seeing if you shaved?
- 1:46:36Speaker 14: No, I know I shaved. I forgot to put deodorant on.
- 1:46:39Speaker 14: I mean, I don't really smell bad, but I could
- 1:46:41Speaker 14: smell better.
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: She doesn't do it nonchalantly. She just shoves her whole
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: face into the room.
- 1:46:45Speaker 7: We're all fun, too. Classy with a K.
- 1:46:51Speaker 14: Wow.
- 1:46:52Speaker 4: It's not like I'm in public.
- 1:46:56Speaker 7: Millions of people are listening to you do this right
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: now or three a little more accurate but whatever.
- 1:47:03Speaker 20: Randy or maybe some other guy in Wisconsin.
- 1:47:10Speaker 15: Armpit fetish if anybody knows anybody with armpit fetish tell.
- 1:47:14Speaker 14: Them to listen to me there's a lot probably I
- 1:47:17Speaker 14: guess if there's a website for women with puffy nipples
- 1:47:20Speaker 14: there's gotta be armpit fetishes out.
- 1:47:22Speaker 7: There There's way worse stuff than that out there, I hate.
- 1:47:24Speaker 22: To tell you.
- 1:47:25Speaker 14: Cake fart.
- 1:47:27Speaker 7: Yeah, that's one of the top of the list of
- 1:47:30Speaker 7: worst things out there.
- 1:47:30Speaker 14: Cake fart.
- 1:47:31Speaker 7: Are you not familiar with that one? Cake. Cake. Cake fart.
- 1:47:35Speaker 9: What?
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: Oh, unfortunately, I'm familiar with it. I have yet to
- 1:47:39Speaker 7: go there, thankfully, but... I've just heard about it. No,
- 1:47:42Speaker 7: I heard about it on another show. One of our
- 1:47:45Speaker 7: brethren of, yeah, they did a whole little session where
- 1:47:49Speaker 7: they went and watched it while recording and their reaction
- 1:47:52Speaker 7: to it. See, I was.
- 1:47:54Speaker 14: Telling someone this story about this guy that my best
- 1:47:57Speaker 14: friend and I used to work with at Kmart when
- 1:47:59Speaker 14: we were teenagers. His name was Scott. And one day
- 1:48:02Speaker 14: he went up to us. He's like, hey, girls, step
- 1:48:04Speaker 14: on this piece of gum. And we're like, okay. And
- 1:48:07Speaker 14: then later he came up to Jessica with a hostess
- 1:48:09Speaker 14: cupcake and was like, Jessica. fart on this cupcake. And
- 1:48:12Speaker 14: she was like, no, why? He was like, just fart
- 1:48:15Speaker 14: on this cupcake. Fart on it. And she's like, no.
- 1:48:18Speaker 14: He's like, burp on it. Burp on this cupcake. cupcake
- 1:48:20Speaker 14: no well yeah he tried to give her like a
- 1:48:24Speaker 14: dollar actually he did she didn't do it no she
- 1:48:28Speaker 14: was like that's really weird and he's just like following
- 1:48:30Speaker 14: around so he's like come on just fart on this
- 1:48:32Speaker 14: cupcake fart on it.
- 1:48:33Speaker 18: When Jessica should make a matter of time yeah just
- 1:48:36Speaker 18: stand there for a few minutes laughing.
- 1:48:39Speaker 9: It's going to come out of some end.
- 1:48:42Speaker 18: I'll tell Jessica.
- 1:48:45Speaker 7: She knows.
- 1:48:46Speaker 14: Everybody knows.
- 1:48:47Speaker 7: She jokes about it more than anybody.
- 1:48:49Speaker 14: Yeah, like yesterday, she was like, want to smell my hands?
- 1:48:52Speaker 14: They smell like onions.
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: I'm like, no.
- 1:48:54Speaker 14: And she kept asking me that. I'm like, you fucking retard.
- 1:48:57Speaker 14: I do not want to smell your goddamn onion fingers.
- 1:48:59Speaker 7: Stop. I was trying to make him smell his wash
- 1:49:03Speaker 7: right after he's been hanging up and mildewing.
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: For a couple days gross I don't.
- 1:49:07Speaker 12: Understand why it gets so mildewy it's got soap on
- 1:49:12Speaker 12: it and it's hanging up how does it get mildewy.
- 1:49:14Speaker 9: And why do you think I want to smell it
- 1:49:16Speaker 9: I don't.
- 1:49:16Speaker 7: Know I want to share these experiences with you.
- 1:49:22Speaker 14: And then right after I was telling people that sorry
- 1:49:24Speaker 14: I saw that guy Scott at the flea market like
- 1:49:27Speaker 14: a couple of weeks ago And I was like, I
- 1:49:29Speaker 14: had to text everybody. I'm like, I just saw that
- 1:49:32Speaker 14: guy that came out that wanted us to.
- 1:49:34Speaker 9: Was he asking anybody to fart on him?
- 1:49:37Speaker 7: That you saw, but in the parking lot later, I'm
- 1:49:39Speaker 7: pretty sure.
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: Probably.
- 1:49:40Speaker 14: He got fired for asking the manager to smash some
- 1:49:45Speaker 14: grapes with her feet.
- 1:49:46Speaker 7: Yeah, that's even normal.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:50Speaker 14: He almost got fired before he ever asked Jessica to
- 1:49:53Speaker 14: fart on a cupcake because he asked someone else to
- 1:49:56Speaker 14: like he asked someone else to rub a chocolate bar
- 1:49:59Speaker 14: between their toes. He's like, rub this Kit Kat between
- 1:50:02Speaker 14: your toes.
- 1:50:03Speaker 7: What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
- 1:50:05Speaker 14: He's fucking weird.
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: You gotta offer money.
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: You offer big bucks. Don't give me a dollar.
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: I don't have to spend it. Right.
- 1:50:13Speaker 9: You think I'm cheap?
- 1:50:14Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:50:19Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 1:50:20Speaker 14: True story. True story.
- 1:50:24Speaker 13: Wow.
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: I'll sell you my sheep cushion for $ 100.
- 1:50:27Speaker 14: I mean, really, people, stuff like this happens to me
- 1:50:31Speaker 14: all the time.
- 1:50:32Speaker 7: That's so funny.
- 1:50:32Speaker 9: I have a Louisville Mojo. I have to buy my underpants.
- 1:50:34Speaker 7: Ew. How much did you get?
- 1:50:36Speaker 14: I remember in Louisville Mojo, I'd get random messages from
- 1:50:39Speaker 14: old guys such as, like, a massage. No, not for me,
- 1:50:42Speaker 14: you fucking creep.
- 1:50:43Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure that's still going on. They've just changed
- 1:50:45Speaker 7: websites now.
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:50:48Speaker 7: Take your pick.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: The Japanese sell used underpants and vending machines.
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:50:51Speaker 7: That's a normal occurrence. Yes.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: Japan, give in to your fetishes. Make money off them.
- 1:50:57Speaker 7: Yeah, really. And put it out on the street. Exactly.
- 1:51:02Speaker 7: All right. So, how we got to those places.
- 1:51:06Speaker 9: It was my fault.
- 1:51:07Speaker 7: Don't ask questions. Good luck. Asking questions will lead to this.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: That leads.
- 1:51:13Speaker 7: Any other questions, hey, you know, send them on out
- 1:51:15Speaker 7: in an email or give us a call.
- 1:51:24Speaker 24: Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So
- 1:51:26Speaker 24: give us a call at 502-365-5565. Or you can email
- 1:51:31Speaker 24: us at geeksatmoviemeltdown.com. And just stop by the website for
- 1:51:35Speaker 24: our frequent updates. That's moviemeltdown.com.
- 1:51:40Speaker 12: On by, on by.
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: On by, on by.
- 1:51:46Speaker 20: Write them down on a pair of used panties and
- 1:51:48Speaker 20: send them in.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: There you go. Ew.
- 1:51:52Speaker 7: And please include the tongs that we're going to need
- 1:51:54Speaker 7: to pick them up because, yeah. Never mind, I don't
- 1:51:58Speaker 7: trust those coming from you either. We'll get our own.
- 1:52:02Speaker 14: Or you could just use paper. That's cool, too.
- 1:52:05Speaker 9: I don't know. Now I don't trust.
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: My favorite paper vitamin.
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: That's sterile. Yeah, voicemail. We prefer voicemails and emails.
- 1:52:13Speaker 9: They're going to be naked while they send it.
- 1:52:15Speaker 7: Whatever. I can deal with that. They're going to fart
- 1:52:20Speaker 7: on your voicemail.
- 1:52:20Speaker 9: Oh, Jesus.
- 1:52:22Speaker 7: What does that mean? We're supposed to be wearing gloves?
- 1:52:23Speaker 14: I mean, actually, I just thought of something a long
- 1:52:26Speaker 14: time ago. This isn't really... I mean, this wasn't a podcast,
- 1:52:29Speaker 14: but it was like a... show that we'd record. It
- 1:52:33Speaker 14: wasn't me, personally. It was my ex-boyfriend's retarded dad and
- 1:52:37Speaker 14: his neighbor. His neighbor would get drunk and he thought
- 1:52:39Speaker 14: it would be really funny to have a show called
- 1:52:41Speaker 14: The Gas Hour. And basically all they did was sit
- 1:52:44Speaker 14: around and laugh and fart and try to see who
- 1:52:46Speaker 14: could light their fart on fire first.
- 1:52:49Speaker 9: Why didn't we think of that?
- 1:52:52Speaker 14: The Gas Hour.
- 1:52:52Speaker 7: I weep for this country.
- 1:52:55Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: And for humanity in general, truthfully.
- 1:52:58Speaker 9: Alrighty. Alrighty.
- 1:53:01Speaker 7: Okay, kids, get out your decoder bins.
- 1:53:03Speaker 13: I didn't bring my copy of Git.
- 1:53:09Speaker 7: Git.
- 1:53:09Speaker 11: Git.
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: I don't even know where that started, but I just
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: know doing it.
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: What?
- 1:53:13Speaker 7: It was in the $ 9. 99 packet at our.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: Section at Suncoast, and it was just a VHS.
- 1:53:31Speaker 15: There was a dog trainer and the box just had
- 1:53:34Speaker 15: G-I-T exclamation point.
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: So we'd run around and we'd just go, Get!
- 1:53:38Speaker 9: Get!
- 1:53:41Speaker 15: And then I did it to Christine's cat at the
- 1:53:44Speaker 15: Oscar party.
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: And just kept yelling and the cat was just freaking out.
- 1:53:48Speaker 7: Oh, shit.
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: So, yeah. I love it.
- 1:53:52Speaker 15: So Sam, as my parting gift for leaving Suncoast, he bought.
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: Me a copy of Get!
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Get!
- 1:54:00Speaker 7: Have you watched it?
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:54:02Speaker 15: And he's kind of like the rambling guy, and there's
- 1:54:07Speaker 15: a dog that nobody can train. You know, he's getting
- 1:54:10Speaker 15: kicked away, and so he comes in and trains the dog,
- 1:54:13Speaker 15: and they're both kind of like the rebels, you know,
- 1:54:17Speaker 15: of town.
- 1:54:18Speaker 7: So it's a bad movie.
- 1:54:20Speaker 19: Wow.
- 1:54:21Speaker 24: So, yeah, I get it.
- 1:54:23Speaker 7: It is time for the Movie Outdown Secret Circle reveal
- 1:54:25Speaker 7: of an upcoming feature. And based on what you just said,
- 1:54:28Speaker 7: I'm throwing Fritz the Cat out there.
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: Oh, man. What are you planning on doing next week?
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: Are we back for that? No, we're working other things,
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: and that's the thing. That's why I'm not even pinpointing
- 1:54:41Speaker 7: them anymore. We've got many other projects in the works,
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: one of which I'm also going to throw out there
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: right now. We're also working on a new segment, a
- 1:54:49Speaker 7: more expanded segment, so that people don't have to come
- 1:54:54Speaker 7: to my creepy house. Or Misty doesn't want it. She
- 1:54:57Speaker 7: barely let us in her house today. So we can't
- 1:54:59Speaker 7: always do this option when we're bringing other people in. Yeah,
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: I don't want anybody I don't know in my house.
- 1:55:05Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying. So I'm coming up with other options.
- 1:55:07Speaker 9: I told him Greg could come, but just if he
- 1:55:09Speaker 9: wouldn't play with my toys.
- 1:55:11Speaker 7: And he's controlled himself very nicely.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: There's a lot of toys, too.
- 1:55:15Speaker 7: I specifically gave him those instructions. He agreed to them. Yeah,
- 1:55:20Speaker 7: the real collection is in the other room.
- 1:55:22Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: Don't show them. Don't show me.
- 1:55:26Speaker 7: But, yeah, we've all conducted, you know, somewhat professionally today.
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: We didn't break your stuff, so.
- 1:55:32Speaker 14: I kind of broke the little ribbon on her charm bracelet.
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: That's it. We're not excited.
- 1:55:36Speaker 7: You're out.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: It's an anniversary present.
- 1:55:40Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:55:40Speaker 14: I feel really terrible. I can't replace it because it
- 1:55:45Speaker 14: won't be special.
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: It's sentimental.
- 1:55:46Speaker 9: I know it's the only one I have.
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: Try to stay here.
- 1:55:53Speaker 13: Wow.
- 1:55:55Speaker 7: Okay, so we, yeah, in the new option of stuff
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: I've been coming up with, I'm thinking of doing a
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: regular episode where we go take over a coffee shop,
- 1:56:06Speaker 7: get hopped up on coffee, and just... I don't drink coffee.
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: You can have hot chocolate or something, whatever. You have
- 1:56:14Speaker 7: to bring your own hot chocolate. So, bring a thermos, please.
- 1:56:18Speaker 9: Okay.
- 1:56:19Speaker 7: With plaid and a cup built right in. Anyway, so...
- 1:56:22Speaker 7: There you go.
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: Alright, whatever.
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: So anyway, we're gonna do the... You ruined the.
- 1:56:31Speaker 9: One with plaid because you put it in the dishwasher.
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: Hey, I didn't know the paint was gonna come off
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: of it.
- 1:56:35Speaker 9: That was my grandpa's.
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: How am I supposed to know the paint was gonna
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: come off of it?
- 1:56:40Speaker 23: He's dead.
- 1:56:41Speaker 15: Now you've got a broken charm bracelet and your grandpa's
- 1:56:43Speaker 15: thermos is broken.
- 1:56:45Speaker 7: That's it. We can't go on anymore.
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: So, coffee shop, regular show.
- 1:56:52Speaker 7: New and improved version, a sort of offshoot version of
- 1:56:56Speaker 7: the show. Probably very similar to what we normally do,
- 1:56:58Speaker 7: but with a few extra additions and being hopped up
- 1:57:00Speaker 7: on coffee as we break in the new version, which
- 1:57:03Speaker 7: will be the caffeinated movie geek. And on that note,
- 1:57:06Speaker 7: I have something new and cool to show you. Which
- 1:57:09Speaker 7: is just coincidentally coming around at the same time. I've
- 1:57:12Speaker 7: actually been working on this plan for about seven or
- 1:57:14Speaker 7: eight months now, but it just happened to come in
- 1:57:17Speaker 7: at this point as we start this new era of
- 1:57:19Speaker 7: the show. Check that out. I've just sat down a
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: sweet movie meltdown coffee mug. Handmade, mind you. But they
- 1:57:30Speaker 7: are going to be offered on the website, available to
- 1:57:33Speaker 7: be ordered.
- 1:57:33Speaker 9: Somebody buys anything we have.
- 1:57:36Speaker 7: I don't care. I've got one. I've got one. That
- 1:57:39Speaker 7: was my main reason for making them, because I want one.
- 1:57:42Speaker 14: It's almost as cool as the coffee mug that I
- 1:57:45Speaker 14: gave you today.
- 1:57:47Speaker 9: And the handle doesn't spin or anything.
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: All right, you know what? Don't put it in the dishwasher, Jake.
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: I know you got one of them goddamn coffee mugs.
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: I'll help you find it. You're trying to make me nuts.
- 1:58:00Speaker 14: She just has it hidden under the sink.
- 1:58:02Speaker 9: I know!
- 1:58:04Speaker 14: I know it's around here. Did you pay any attention
- 1:58:07Speaker 14: to the copy mug I presented to you earlier?
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: Yes, and it is awesome.
- 1:58:12Speaker 9: It's vintage.
- 1:58:15Speaker 7: It's a vintage Star Wars copy. It's a vintage Empire era,
- 1:58:19Speaker 7: I'm assuming. It's got Yoda and Luke in the Dagobah
- 1:58:22Speaker 7: set up on it. So that was my leftover Christmas present.
- 1:58:27Speaker 7: So yeah, that was my Christmas present from Rowena, which
- 1:58:29Speaker 7: is awesome, but we're not.
- 1:58:30Speaker 9: I have your Christmas present in the other room.
- 1:58:32Speaker 7: We're not offering that on the website because it's mine
- 1:58:34Speaker 7: and you can't have it. What you can have is
- 1:58:35Speaker 7: one of these fabulous movie meltdowns.
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: Which are cooler.
- 1:58:38Speaker 14: It says Adams on the bottom of it.
- 1:58:40Speaker 7: Handmade, I'm telling you. These are going to be a
- 1:58:43Speaker 7: very limited run. His link will be on there on
- 1:58:46Speaker 7: the site, too. I'm definitely promoting his work. He does
- 1:58:49Speaker 7: fine ceramic work, so commission him to do whatever you want.
- 1:58:54Speaker 7: But we're definitely going to have a run of these,
- 1:58:57Speaker 7: and I'm working on a new awesome artwork to go
- 1:59:00Speaker 7: along with the caffeinated movie geek segment. So I'm hoping
- 1:59:04Speaker 7: we'll have a specific one just of that in the
- 1:59:07Speaker 7: near future, somewhere, or distant future. So place your orders now.
- 1:59:12Speaker 7: They're awesome.
- 1:59:13Speaker 11: I almost bought you something last night, but I didn't
- 1:59:15Speaker 11: because it would have involved having money.
- 1:59:16Speaker 9: You know those stupid little bean things? The little, um.
- 1:59:21Speaker 4: I guess you play games with them.
- 1:59:23Speaker 9: Mighty Beans.
- 1:59:23Speaker 7: The roly-poly looking... They had a Greedo Bean. I've hung
- 1:59:28Speaker 7: out with Greedo. As we've all heard. I'm assuming. Greedo Bean.
- 1:59:35Speaker 19: That's pretty funny.
- 1:59:38Speaker 7: Maybe we need a Greedo blend of coffee. Made with
- 1:59:41Speaker 7: real Greedo Beans. Whatever, I'd drink it. Yeah, but you're weird. Yeah,
- 1:59:48Speaker 7: that's true. Alright, anything else you guys want to round
- 1:59:52Speaker 7: out this episode? We're back with a vengeance, I tell you.
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:59:57Speaker 9: I'm not really vengeance right now.
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: It's getting late.
- 2:00:00Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying. We delivered a hell of an episode,
- 2:00:03Speaker 7: I'd say.
- 2:00:04Speaker 4: It's super late.
- 2:00:06Speaker 9: Watch out, ginger magician.
- 2:00:09Speaker 4: Misty's gunning for you in 2011.
- 2:00:10Speaker 16: Revenge of the ginger magicians.
- 2:00:15Speaker 4: Or vampires.
- 2:00:16Speaker 9: Neither of the magicians I work with are gingers. That's
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: why I have not killed them thus far.
- 2:00:20Speaker 7: Yet. Again, it's early in the year. So with that
- 2:00:24Speaker 7: grim warning, we will round things out. As for our
- 2:00:27Speaker 7: closing song, I mean, when Soft Cell writes a song
- 2:00:30Speaker 7: inspired by your movie, we have to go out on that.
- 2:00:34Speaker 14: Soft Cell did?
- 2:00:34Speaker 7: Soft Cell, for God's sakes. What was it? Martin.
- 2:00:39Speaker 14: Martin. I've never heard it.
- 2:00:41Speaker 7: I'm just telling. Soft sell.
- 2:00:43Speaker 11: Martin.
- 2:00:43Speaker 9: Y'all looked at me like I was retarded. I only
- 2:00:46Speaker 9: know one soft sell song.
- 2:00:47Speaker 7: Everybody only knows one soft sell song.
- 2:00:48Speaker 14: I have a whole soft sell album.
- 2:00:51Speaker 7: Can you name any of the other ones, though?
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:00:53Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:00:55Speaker 14: There's another one that I used to know, but I
- 2:00:57Speaker 14: don't really know it anymore.
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: Nobody does.
- 2:00:59Speaker 7: It's okay. I mean, even they bank on the fact
- 2:01:01Speaker 7: that that one hit has made them rich their entire careers.
- 2:01:05Speaker 7: Just when they play it.
- 2:01:06Speaker 14: One of them now is like a priests for the
- 2:01:08Speaker 14: church of satan or something.
- 2:01:10Speaker 7: Well i mean now they play it on commercials like
- 2:01:11Speaker 7: once a year i see it turn up on a
- 2:01:13Speaker 7: new commercial i'm just like they will ride that song
- 2:01:15Speaker 7: for the rest of their life i don't blame i
- 2:01:18Speaker 7: don't blame you you know what i'm like i'd be
- 2:01:20Speaker 7: i'd be writing that forever so i'd be a one-hit
- 2:01:23Speaker 7: wonder hell yeah i'll take it yeah that's right can't
- 2:01:26Speaker 7: complain about one hit can't complain if you got one
- 2:01:30Speaker 7: hit Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 2:01:35Speaker 7: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 2:01:38Speaker 13: Later, y'all.
- 2:01:39Speaker 18: Amen.
- 2:02:09Speaker 27: Martin is a boy with problems. Martin has a family history.
- 2:02:15Speaker 27: Martin has too many nightmares.
- 2:02:19Speaker 7: He lives in a fantasy.
- 2:02:22Speaker 27: There's a danger that he'll take too far. It's morbid curiosity.
- 2:02:51Speaker 28: He knows he's not to blame The face at the
- 2:02:56Speaker 28: window The hand under the bed Martin has hallucinations Dreams
- 2:03:03Speaker 28: that he's done He's finding hard to keep control, he.
- 2:03:25Speaker 23: Knows it won't be long And a tongue rolls over.
- 2:03:30Speaker 4: His dry lips, and a voice.
- 2:03:34Speaker 23: Lingers on The face at.
- 2:03:36Speaker 28: The window, the hand under the bed Martin has hallucinations.
- 2:03:50Speaker 1: Too.
- 2:04:54Speaker 23: Keep control, keep control, keep control Finding hard to keep
- 2:05:00Speaker 23: control Keep control He's finding hard to keep control Keep
- 2:05:09Speaker 23: control Finding hard to keep control Keep control, keep control.
- 2:06:25Speaker 4: Nosferatu.
