- 0:00The theater season here in Detroit is almost upon us.
- 0:02In today's episode of the BSB podcast,
- 0:04we're joined by ATD Detroit's Amber Rasho to talk about what is shaping up
- 0:07to be a truly spectacular season.
- 0:09Thank you so much for coming on today,
- 0:10Amber, and talking with us.
- 0:12Thank you so much for having me,
- 0:13Brian. I'm so excited.
- 0:15This is truly a season that is going to be all glitz and glam.
- 0:18how would you describe the overall vibes of the twenty twenty six,
- 0:21twenty twenty seven season here at ATG Detroit?
- 0:24it's just gonna be a fun time.
- 0:26I mean, like you mentioned, kinda our season is kind of designed through that glitz
- 0:29and glamour. So it's just gonna be a fun time.
- 0:32Either you're coming to see Gatsby or you're coming to see Death Becomes Her.
- 0:36it's just gonna be a really fun time at the theater and I'm so excited
- 0:40for the season.
- 0:41I have to say this season is just it is so much spectacle.
- 0:45I think that's one the one thing I was kind of taken away as I saw it ~
- 0:48as you were kind of announcing the season and you were kind of teasing
- 0:50and I was like,
- 0:50Mm.
- 0:50these are all shows from start to finish that are just huge Broadway shows.
- 0:56but which one are you kind of most excited to see come to Detroit?
- 1:00I am so excited for Oh, Mary honestly.
- 1:03I that's one I haven't seen that I've I've been trying to get a ticket to,
- 1:07but ~ I've only heard funny, ridiculous,
- 1:10crash out things about the show.
- 1:11So I'm very excited for for that to come out.
- 1:14Oh, Mary! is one of those shows.
- 1:15We got to see it last time we were in New York.
- 1:16And it is a, it is hilarious. You are gonna cry.
- 1:20Last so hard, you're gonna cry.
- 1:21It's one of those shows that like it's kind of a wild card.
- 1:23When you're kind of looking at some of the seasons,
- 1:24I was like, it's a play. A lot of people don't come to plays,
- 1:27but I think that has so much stage presence of a show that like people
- 1:31are going to be coming to the show and flocking to it.
- 1:33Yeah, I'm super excited. At one of our conferences we got kind of ~
- 1:37a little speech from Cola Scola and just hearing him talk like I already know that
- 1:42whatever he creates is just gonna be magic and it's gonna be hilarious.
- 1:45So I'm super excited for that.
- 1:47Absolutely. And that's one of the ones too that I think that's going to have
- 1:49a like you almost need somebody iconic to play Mary,
- 1:53you know. So I think that's gonna be the one that's gonna have a name people
- 1:55are gonna easily recognize as it comes through Detroit.
- 1:58Yes, we did s hear that ~ that announcement is coming very soon.
- 2:02So that's definitely something I'm gonna look out for within this next month or so.
- 2:05But very excited for that.
- 2:07~ but you're kind of starting the season with a big show.
- 2:09The Notebook
- 2:10Mm-hmm.
- 2:10is coming here in September. And
- 2:12Mm-hmm.
- 2:12I have to say that I think this is one of those shows that I hear I mean,
- 2:15I hear so many people talking about it.
- 2:17It's all over social media. This is one of those ones that people really recognize
- 2:21the name. They recognize the brand.
- 2:23There's a lot of appeal to that.
- 2:24Why do you think that it's appealing to so many people?
- 2:27I mean the the the movie is so iconic.
- 2:29I mean you know so many iconic lines,
- 2:31iconic scenes. ~ and what better way to launch a season with making everybody
- 2:35cry and making
- 2:36Ha ha.
- 2:37them making their hearts warm with such a beautiful and well known love story.
- 2:41So I I'm excited for that to launch our our season here in September.
- 2:45Yeah, 'cause that was a big show on Broadway.
- 2:47I mean, it brought people to tears.
- 2:49They were walking out of the theater just absolutely crying and devastated.
- 2:52~ in like a good way. But like that is it's awesome to have something as
- 2:56big as that to kind of kick off ~ the season here.
- 2:59Yeah, just just tug on your heartstrings a little bit.
- 3:02I know I've seen like branded the notebook tissue boxes that they've sent
- 3:06us and stuff. So definitely
- 3:06Ha ha
- 3:08fun. ~ we had an event earlier this year with we did a scavenger hunt.
- 3:14In our scavenger hunt, we let people write letters to the fisher or love letters
- 3:17to the fisher. So that's kind of a fun thing I wanna include when people come
- 3:22to the show as well. Just write a little love letter to the fisher
- 3:24and your favorite memories.
- 3:26I love that you always are doing so much to bring people in.
- 3:29It's not just coming to see a show,
- 3:30it's like a whole experience here at the Fisher Theater.
- 3:33Mm. Yeah, we wanna make a time memorable.
- 3:35I know you know you're coming for the shows,
- 3:36but I think it's really the little small details like getting a photo
- 3:40in front of the Set and Repeat or getting a special themed cocktail or something.
- 3:44I think those little moments kind of just add to the memory that we're already
- 3:47creating.
- 3:48absolutely. I I wanna say that I feel like it's been really pushing towards that
- 3:52over the past couple of years.
- 3:53I remember when I first started coming here,
- 3:54there wasn't always like a themed drink I felt like,
- 3:56you know, or something special like that.
- 3:58And now it truly feels like you're walking in and you could spend just
- 4:00as much time in the lobby as you are actually going to your seats
- 4:03and getting ready for the show.
- 4:04Yeah, absolutely. And we have such a beautiful lobby,
- 4:07so we really encourage people to to come early or even take advantages of
- 4:10one of our lounges before this show just to kind of make make more memories while
- 4:15you're here.
- 4:16Sure, absolutely. So speaking of those memories,
- 4:17have you seen the notebook?
- 4:19I have not. I have not, but I'm very excited for it.
- 4:21I I've seen the movie of course and
- 4:23Sure.
- 4:24I know, but I have not seen the show yet.
- 4:26And I'm a sucker for a rain scene after seeing the outsiders.
- 4:28So I'm very excited for that.
- 4:31that's
- 4:31such an iconic scene in the outsider,
- 4:33so I can only imagine how it's gonna be in the notebook.
- 4:33Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:35~
- 4:36I am anticipating being I I am a big crier,
- 4:38I'm a big baby when it comes to shows like this.
- 4:40So I am at fully anticipating being absolute wreck when I'm leaving
- 4:43the Fisher Theater when that one's c when that one's here.
- 4:46Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:48And then it leads into maybe happy ending,
- 4:49which is again another love story.
- 4:50There's a lot of love stories this season,
- 4:52which is not a bad thing. I think that that really does appeal to a lot of people.
- 4:55~ but this one's a little different.
- 4:57This one, you know, doesn't have the the brand recognition necessarily.
- 5:00It does have kind of the ~ the word of mouth or like the accolades that
- 5:04it holds because it has won a lot of Tony Awards.
- 5:06So how do you think this one kind of maybe stands out when a lot of them
- 5:09do have that brand recognition that's coming with them this season?
- 5:12well it did win the Tony Award for Best Musical ~ last year,
- 5:15I believe. So that does kind of help give it the recognition.
- 5:18Most people kind of recognize like Darren Criss originated the role and Helen Shen.
- 5:23So we definitely wanna wanna push that this is a love story.
- 5:26It's different.
- 5:27It's shorter too. It's a one act show,
- 5:30so no intermission, so quick in and out.
- 5:32So it's definitely different from the kind of normal things that people
- 5:36see and recognize. So we do wanna wanna let people know that it's
- 5:39a love story between two robots who kind of find each other and find love
- 5:44and it's it's cutesy and I'm very excited for it to come here.
- 5:48We got to see this one in January as well.
- 5:50And this is one of the ones in NYC that we were blown away by
- 5:54the the technical aspects of this,
- 5:55like the lighting and the stage design.
- 5:57And those are some of the coolest things I think that really stand out
- 5:59as people are going into the show.
- 6:00Like if you're not going just for the romance and the in the storyline that's there,
- 6:05you're gonna be amazed by how they're pulling off some of the cool light designs,
- 6:09you know, and how they're moving the stage and how they're staging what it's like
- 6:12to be in kind of like a futuristic ~ society.
- 6:16Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing it all.
- 6:18And with that one as well, I do love too that ~ it's kind of an allegory
- 6:22for being different or maybe like being on the spectrum or like being,
- 6:25you know, there's these things of like,
- 6:26you know, Darren Criss character is very much ~ robotic because he is a robot.
- 6:30And so like when you're kind of going there too.
- 6:31As a psychologist, I was watching I like,
- 6:33there's a lot to kind of dig in here with these characters.
- 6:35So to see them kind of play on stage,
- 6:37~ it's gonna be cool in Detroit because I will say this.
- 6:40I saw it seeing it in New York.
- 6:42Those seats are very small for anyone that's tall.
- 6:45~ and a one act play can be very long.
- 6:48But much like Hadestown when I went and saw Hadestown here,
- 6:51the Fisher has perfect seats. They have like they're the perfect amount
- 6:54of leg room and stuff like that.
- 6:55I think this is the ideal space to kind of enjoy a show,
- 6:58like maybe happy ending where it is that hour,
- 7:00an hour and fifty minute show without getting up and moving because
- 7:03you don't have to feel so crowded and secluded.
- 7:05And so I think this is a perfect home for that is what I've tried to say.
- 7:08Yeah, absolutely. We're looking forward to it.
- 7:10You know, just come, relax, enjoy,
- 7:12grab a drink, and I'm very excited for it.
- 7:15Now the Great Gatsby, you have you seen the Great Gatsby?
- 7:17Have you read The Great Gatsby?
- 7:18Are you familiar with the Great Gatsby?
- 7:20All of it. I've read it, I've seen the movie,
- 7:21I've seen the show. Everything.
- 7:24So how would you feel like it kind of compares to the book when you're kind
- 7:27of bringing it to stage? Do you d do you love the glitz and the glam of it?
- 7:30Because I feel like that's what the season's kind of based on,
- 7:32is that glitz glam of the Roaring Twenties?
- 7:33Yeah, I think that's definitely the main focal point of the Great Gatsby
- 7:37is the glitz and glamour of the show.
- 7:39I mean, the costumes are beautiful,
- 7:40the set is stunning. you you really feel like you're in that kind of
- 7:44roaring twenties feel with with the big mansion and and the car the car is so cool.
- 7:49I mean the way the way they s they portray that Rolls Royce and have
- 7:53it drive and everything. So ~ I'm very excited for it.
- 7:56I think I think people are gonna enjoy it.
- 7:58It's definitely gonna draw in a lot of people.
- 8:00It's gonna draw in a lot of schools that are reading the books.
- 8:02So and we have it during Thanksgiving,
- 8:04which I think is a fun time for people to kinda get out while they're here
- 8:08for the holidays.
- 8:09Yeah, that that that ~ that's the the school thing is very I think you're right.
- 8:14It's gonna have a lot of schools.
- 8:15~ I remember growing up and reading this.
- 8:16I read it again in college. It has a lot of,
- 8:19you know, ~ theatrical things that you can kind of pick up on,
- 8:23or thematic things, I should say.
- 8:25~ and so being able to kind of play that and have that,
- 8:27it's gonna draw in families, it's gonna draw in ~ schools,
- 8:31but it's really it is one of the most gorgeous shows we've probably I mean,
- 8:35not to say that they're not all gorgeous,
- 8:36but like it is so beautiful.
- 8:38how the set design and everything came together for the great Gatsby.
- 8:40I'm so excited for people to see that.
- 8:43Yeah, it's definitely gorgeous.
- 8:44It's a big spectacle. So I'm looking forward to it.
- 8:47And and what better way to, you know,
- 8:49to celebrate the holiday season than with a show with family?
- 8:52which kind of takes us to the the boop the musical as well,
- 8:56which I think is again another incredible show.
- 8:58I have not seen this one. I have the two shows I've not seen this season.
- 9:01I have not seen the notebook, I have not seen Boop the Musical.
- 9:04But this one had a really great ~ I would say social media campaign to kind
- 9:08of bring this one when it was on Broadway.
- 9:10~ well, first off, have you got to see this one yet?
- 9:14So I didn't see the actual show,
- 9:15but when we were there for a conference,
- 9:17they actually gave us like three to four performances of the show.
- 9:20So I I saw a good amount and it's super cute.
- 9:24I'm really excited. They kinda have this little black and white theme going where
- 9:28they switch from black to white and or a black and white to color.
- 9:31And it's super cute. It's it's super creative and I'm very excited
- 9:35to see that translate on tour.
- 9:36Do you feel like it captures kind of what makes Betty Boop special?
- 9:40Yeah, I mean, she she was such an iconic role and ~ portraying her in that black
- 9:45and white and kind of throwing her into the real world and in a world
- 9:49of color and something so different and allowing to explore herself
- 9:52and her character. It's kind of what the story is leaning towards.
- 9:55And it's super cute. It's fun for all ages.
- 9:58We don't really have a show this season that's designated for kids,
- 10:01but this is definitely one for the younger kids,
- 10:04the parents, the grandparents,
- 10:06something that everyone can enjoy and kind of knows about Betty Boop.
- 10:10In a sense.
- 10:12It kind of makes sense too that you have it paired with the great Gatsby.
- 10:14Like ti like it it lined up perfectly that holiday season,
- 10:17the families of the younger the youngish kids,
- 10:20you know, younger families. It makes sense to kind of have those
- 10:22two paired together when it's coming through Detroit.
- 10:25~
- 10:26Mm-hmm.
- 10:27but I think that also correct me wrong,
- 10:28but Boop also really kinda harkens back like a old school Broadway feel too,
- 10:32with like you said, that black and white feel,
- 10:33the the the way that it's kinda like show stopping dancy,
- 10:36~ again capturing the glitz and the glam,
- 10:39the glitter, what makes kind of Hollywood or
- 10:41Hollywood ~ Broadway special. would you say that kinda has that old school feel?
- 10:46Yeah, I think it it definitely plays into like the l am animated version
- 10:50of Betty and kind of the way she talks,
- 10:52the way she moves and everything.
- 10:53And I think it's always so creative when you kind of translate an animated movie
- 10:58or role into the into the stage and kind of see how those actors adapt that.
- 11:02So it it's really fun.
- 11:04Absolutely. And I think again,
- 11:05a great way to end twenty twenty six.
- 11:07Like when you're this I always think of kind of like the benchmark show
- 11:09of like how do you end a season?
- 11:11And last year we had Shucked and that was the perfect way to kind
- 11:12of like celebrate family and to kind of get together with people.
- 11:16~ and so this one kind of too,
- 11:17it just feels like very joyful.
- 11:19I feel like it kinda has that that little bit of ~ I don't know,
- 11:23it's it's hitting something. It's not nostalgia,
- 11:25but there's like a good joyful feeling about having Betty Boob kind
- 11:27of be the closing of twenty twenty six.
- 11:30Yeah, she's so happy and cutesy and we're excited to have her in Detroit.
- 11:34And then Operation Mincemeat. I mean,
- 11:35this is the second to last main show of the season.
- 11:39~ and I do have to say that this show caught us by surprise when we went
- 11:43to NYC because we weren't expecting to laugh as much as we were gonna laugh
- 11:46in this show. This show is probably going to I think it's gonna be the
- 11:51~ like the dark horse of of Detroit for a lot of people.
- 11:54They're gonna go in and not expecting it to be so funny and walk away
- 11:57and just talking about this one more so than maybe any other show that's coming
- 12:00through Detroit.
- 12:01Yeah. Absolutely. I think it's best to go in completely blind.
- 12:05I mean I kinda like read the bio,
- 12:07but going in not knowing anything about the operation or about how how
- 12:11it went down is best. But the way they put it together,
- 12:14the script is so quick, it's so witty,
- 12:17it's so clever and fun. And yeah,
- 12:19I didn't think I would like it as much as I did,
- 12:22but the way that those ~ five actors play,
- 12:26I believe, eighty-three characters throughout the entire
- 12:28Yes.
- 12:29show is
- 12:30Absolutely insane. I mean, it's a marathon the entire way through,
- 12:33but it it's such a fun ride to be on.
- 12:35It's kind of reminds you of like the old slapstick,
- 12:38like ~ what is it, like the three stooges almost the way that they're kind
- 12:41of running around stage, but it's done so well.
- 12:43Mm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:44And it
- 12:47And I would say that this is one that I think too that the like if you listen
- 12:50to the music beforehand, like it's fine,
- 12:53but like truly I think you're right.
- 12:54Going into it blind and just absorbing everything about the show is the best
- 12:57way to do it because so much story is told through the music that
- 13:00you might listen to the music and not be
- 13:03as wowed as you would as you go in and you just see Operation Mincement come
- 13:07to life on stage 'cause that's where the magic really happens.
- 13:09Yeah, ~ seeing them on stage and doing all that is definitely different from
- 13:12listening. I mean, your emotions are going up and down throughout the whole show,
- 13:17like one minute you're crying,
- 13:19one minute you're sad, one minute you're like,
- 13:20Wait, is can I trust this person?
- 13:22And i you kinda go through that the entire show until the very end.
- 13:26I remember and I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody,
- 13:28but there's one scene where I was laughing and the next thing RJ looked over
- 13:32and I was sobbing and I was just like I just could not stop crying.
- 13:35And then you just right back into the funny.
- 13:37And so it has a lot of heart, it has a lot of like action and adventure,
- 13:41has a lot of comedy. ~ this was when I was actually telling my nephew,
- 13:44who's about seventeen, he's kind of sort of getting into Broadway a little
- 13:47bit very casually, and I said,
- 13:48If there's one show you're gonna go with me this year,
- 13:50I think they should be Operation Mincemeat but I like go in blind,
- 13:53let enjoy it. I think you're gonna be pleasantly surprised.
- 13:56by what this is like and I think a lot of people are gonna be that way.
- 13:59Yeah, especially since there's not much brand recognition of the show.
- 14:02I feel like once people see it,
- 14:03they're actually gonna be very shocked on how impressed they're they're gonna
- 14:07be with the show.
- 14:08Absolutely. And then of course,
- 14:10my favorite is closing out the season.
- 14:12And I know you didn't make the decision,
- 14:14Amber, but I'm gonna thank you anyways.
- 14:15Death Becomes Her is by far ~ one of my favorite Broadway shows to ever exist.
- 14:22~
- 14:22Nice.
- 14:23and I have been patiently waiting,
- 14:25even though it's not been that long,
- 14:26for it to come to Detroit, because when I saw it in New York,
- 14:29I had told my sister and my mom ~ that when it comes,
- 14:33we're gonna go see it because I grew up on watching this movie.
- 14:36They wa my sister introduced me to it.
- 14:37There is a little bit of that brand recognition,
- 14:39but it's not so much that like you're going to have too much of a mental image
- 14:42of what it is. And it is such a such a cool show.
- 14:46What do you think like what do you think it is about this show that maybe speaks
- 14:51to you or is going to speak to people as they come to the Fisher Theater?
- 14:53Or no, this is at Detroit Opera House.
- 14:55This is this
- 14:55Sorry.
- 14:56one is at the Detroit Opera House.
- 14:57Yeah, big stage, big staircase.
- 14:59It can't fit at the fisture, unfortunately.
- 15:01But yeah, but I think
- 15:02Huge staircase.
- 15:04similar to Mincemeat like it's clever.
- 15:08It's fun it's a really funny show.
- 15:10I mean, the way they portray the characters and everything.
- 15:13I I haven't seen the stage show yet,
- 15:15so you hyping it up got me really excited.
- 15:17And I actually just recently saw the movie for the first time,
- 15:20but
- 15:21I mean I've seen like little TikTok clips and everyone doing
- 15:24the little TikTok trends. So I think that when when it was kind of hyped
- 15:28up like that is definitely gonna like recognize in a sense.
- 15:32But ~ I'm very excited to see how they put it all together on the tour.
- 15:36I do have to ask you just because I'm an nerd that way,
- 15:38did you like the movie? 'Cause a lot of people that have loved the show didn't love
- 15:42the movie. And so I think that's interesting that like you can love
- 15:45the movie and love the show, but you don't have to love the show or love
- 15:48the movie to love the show.
- 15:50I like I liked the the movie a lot.
- 15:52I mean, it's fun, it's heartfelt,
- 15:54like it's it's it's not you don't have to think too much about it,
- 15:58but ~ also just have a good fun fun time with the characters.
- 16:01It is such a fun show. I remember like I I would compare it to almost like what
- 16:06people would call like a popcorn movie,
- 16:08where like you don't have to go in and like analyze everything,
- 16:10but there's something on stage for you to s take in and see from the moment
- 16:14you go in, like the spectacleness of it,
- 16:17the the songs, the the acting.
- 16:20~ it is truly gonna be I think it's gonna be something special.
- 16:22And especially like you said, the staircase that's too big for the Fisher.
- 16:26There's a reason it needs to be that big and it's so cool.
- 16:30Yeah. And definitely playing into the glitz and glamour of our season.
- 16:32I mean the girls are fabulous,
- 16:34so
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:35And they announced the the cast too and it is it's a sacked cast.
- 16:39Like again, like these are some big names touring on the show ~
- 16:43to bring Death Becomes Her to life And so I I cannot praise this show enough
- 16:47and I'm so excited to see it. When you see me that night,
- 16:50Amber, I'm gonna probably be so giddy because this is just an incredible show.
- 16:53This is a show that I'm also gonna turn out multiple times to see.
- 16:55And I think that's quite a few of the shows this season that you mentioned
- 16:58are gonna be shows that people are gonna come back for.
- 17:00You know what I mean?
- 17:01Yeah. I'm gonna look out for you on press night,
- 17:03so we're we're gonna have fun.
- 17:06But y you know, you already mentioned O'Mary as a bonus show,
- 17:09but there's even more bonus shows.
- 17:10You have incredibly stacked casts.
- 17:13But again, you're starting this season with the bonus shows with
- 17:17a nostalgic show for a lot of people.
- 17:19Mm-hmm.
- 17:20Dirty Dancing the Musical, which was one I will be honest,
- 17:23I was not expecting to ever come to tour.
- 17:26~ I I didn't know it was even a thing until you guys announced it,
- 17:29which was so cool. This is a show that my mom,
- 17:32as soon as she saw it advertised on television,
- 17:34I think it was, she was like,
- 17:36Dirty Dance is coming, we have to go see that one.
- 17:38~
- 17:38Mm-hmm.
- 17:39what is it like to kind of have that,
- 17:40you know, this one that people grew up on come to the stage now in a new way?
- 17:45Yeah, it's it's always fun when when the movies come.
- 17:47I mean, people recognize the title so much.
- 17:50People grew up with the movie,
- 17:51grew up with the music. So we're very excited.
- 17:54We did have like a like a movie shadow cast version a couple of times come through
- 17:59and everyone was like, When are we getting the stage version?
- 18:00So it's finally nice to kind of feed the fans and and give what they want.
- 18:04I mean, people we've had Mamma Mia three times since I've been here and sold
- 18:08it out almost every
- 18:08Yes.
- 18:09time. So people really love those feel-good,
- 18:11good time kind of ~ movie to stage adapt.
- 18:15Yeah.
- 18:16I was gonna say this is one of those I would consider almost like a crowd pleaser.
- 18:19Like this is like doesn't just bring in theater people.
- 18:22You know, some of the other shows they maybe aren't gonna bring in,
- 18:25like the casual viewers might not come in necessarily as much as like
- 18:28the the the people who love theater are gonna come and see them.
- 18:30But this is one where like everybody from every walk of life is gonna
- 18:34be showing up if they have some kind of connection to dirty dancing.
- 18:37~ you mentioned about me. I also think of like the Tina Turner show that came
- 18:41through. ~ that people just they turned out
- 18:44For in such a huge way. And there's such like a different feel.
- 18:46There's a different energy to it ~ that I think is gonna really make dirty dancing
- 18:51iconic here.
- 18:52Yeah, I think it's just that people recognize it and they want to kind
- 18:55of relive or get a little nostalgic that really is a draw to these shows.
- 18:59So we're excited for
- 19:01And speaking of shows that are that have come through multiple times,
- 19:03Six the Musical is coming back.
- 19:05That was your recent announcement.
- 19:08And this one is a powerhouse. This one does not stop.
- 19:11Like it keeps coming in, it keeps bringing in people.
- 19:14W it kind of has like a mass appeal.
- 19:16Like Hamilton, what is it about Six the Musical that you think that really speaks
- 19:20to Detroiters?
- 19:21Yeah Detroit loves this show. I mean,
- 19:23we had it for three
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:24weeks the first time it came, and then when it came back for the first return
- 19:27a week, it was almost sold out and we anticipate it's gonna do the same thing.
- 19:30I mean, I have people come up to me and say,
- 19:32This is my eighth time coming to six and I don't blame them because this
- 19:37is one of my favorite shows as well.
- 19:39Yes.
- 19:39~
- 19:40it's so fun. It's so it's the
- 19:43The songs are so clever. And if you like concerts and live events,
- 19:47like this is definitely the show to go to because it feels like you're at a concert.
- 19:51Absolutely and it blends that so beautifully of like it is it's theater,
- 19:55Mm-hmm.
- 19:56but it's also a concert, and it's not super long of a show either.
- 19:59No, not at all. And actually my birthday is the week that it's here.
- 20:03And I told all of my friends, I
- 20:04Yeah.
- 20:04go, We're we're going we're all going out and seeing six.
- 20:07They they fight me on whenever I make them go to shows,
- 20:10but I like, No, we're all going to see six and it's gonna be such a fun time.
- 20:13And I think that's the biggest draw of it.
- 20:15Like bring your girls, bring your friends and just come see it
- 20:18and experience it 'cause it's it'll just be a really fun time.
- 20:22It is a truly a spectacle of a night.
- 20:24And I will say this just to warn anybody who's looking for tickets as well.
- 20:26When they drop, get them early,
- 20:29because Six does sell very quickly,
- 20:32kinda like Hamilton, because like you said,
- 20:34everybody's showing out. Like this is just I think spic Six has spoken across
- 20:40all like all boundaries of people to really just be a show,
- 20:42kind of about empowerment, but also just to kind of have fun and let loose
- 20:45a little bit and have that that feel of like this is what fun is.
- 20:49Mm. Yeah, absolutely. Come out and get your tickets.
- 20:52And it's a good point because please get your tickets
- 20:55at us.atgtickets.com/detroit I remember when we had six last time we dealt with
- 21:01a lot of scam tickets. ~
- 21:03Yes.
- 21:04we actually it was a a news story.
- 21:06Someone actually like their account got hacked and someone stole their tickets that
- 21:10they had bought for their daughter.
- 21:12So it's just we stressed it so much to please
- 21:15shop directly from a source rather than most third party websites.
- 21:18Cause we want everyone to experience it and have a good time.
- 21:21Like, and that tells you how powerful the show is.
- 21:23People are scamming each other to get there because they want those tickets,
- 21:27they are hot commodities. ~ and truly.
- 21:29Mm. That show
- 21:30Hamilton, like we see it all. Mm hmm.
- 21:33Mama Mia is another one too, right?
- 21:34Where it's just it sells out. ~
- 21:35Yeah.
- 21:38and it's only here for a short time.
- 21:39You only have it November third through the eighth.
- 21:41So like you have like what that's six days to get your tickets and really make sure
- 21:44Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 21:45you see this.
- 21:47but before we move on to the last show,
- 21:48I do have to know who is your queen?
- 21:50~ I love Anne Boleyn. She's just so sassy and ~ I think she's just so fun.
- 21:56I love her.
- 21:58I ha I've seen six six times. This will be my seventh time this time.
- 22:02Nice.
- 22:03I'm and I might be going multiple times.
- 22:04And every time I walk away with a new favorite queen,
- 22:06I and I think that's what cool about it too,
- 22:08is like no matter like when you go in your life,
- 22:10you can connect to them at different times depending on what you're kind
- 22:13of feeling and stuff. ~ and they're all fully formed people as well.
- 22:16I think that sometimes when you have shows that are very quick or they
- 22:20are a little more concert you don't always get fully formed individuals,
- 22:22but they are real humans in a way up on stage.
- 22:26Giving their all and so it's it is truly magical.
- 22:29Yeah, and you get just the right amount of each one to understand who they
- 22:32are and their story and it it's so fun.
- 22:34I'm excited.
- 22:36And then of course the last bonus show that's already been that's been announced,
- 22:38I should say, is Water for Elephants,
- 22:40which is coming in March. ~ this one I saw in New York as well.
- 22:44This is s an interesting show because I think it's we don't often get
- 22:49the circus in the theater. Have
- 22:51No.
- 22:52~ do you I I I'll just say that I don't even have to ask questions.
- 22:56I think this is gonna appeal to a lot of people because we don't always have
- 22:59a lot of theater like a lot of ~ circuses the way that this is portrayed,
- 23:03like the big flashy
- 23:05I mean they bring spoiler to anybody,
- 23:07there might be an elephant in this show.
- 23:09Like, and it's truly one of those things that's truly awesome to see.
- 23:15Do you do you see that the the circus aspect of this or the spectacle of this?
- 23:19I guess what are your kind of thoughts on this show?
- 23:22Yeah, I mean th the circus aspect is one of the most jaw dropping appeals
- 23:27of the show 'cause they they climb on each other,
- 23:30they throw each other, they like the acrobatic and athleticism of these actors that
- 23:34are selected for the show are unlike I've seen in any other Broadway show.
- 23:39~ they do a really great job
- 23:40Truly.
- 23:40of like authenticating it and making you feel like you are in an actual circus.
- 23:44and there's just so many other elements of the show,
- 23:47like the puppetry, the love story.
- 23:49So it kind of all combines all those elements while including that
- 23:53fun and circus theme into the show.
- 23:55When I saw this in New York, I have to say that they a lot when we were walking out,
- 23:58a lot of people mentioned that like in New York specifically,
- 24:01you don't see circuses like at all.
- 24:03And so they
- 24:03Mm-hmm.
- 24:03were going to the show for that 'cause it's like there's animals
- 24:07and there's people in in in makeup as animals,
- 24:09there's puppets as animals, there's like this blend of everything.
- 24:11The acrobats are some like how they pull off the acrobats every single night
- 24:16to to so much fanfare is is inc it's just so incredible to watch it kind
- 24:20of come to life that way.
- 24:21Yeah, and I I'm very curious on how they're gonna translate to the stage 'cause like
- 24:25if you've been to the first show,
- 24:26like I feel like someone's gonna go through the roof or something if they throw
- 24:28Ha ha.
- 24:28up there.
- 24:29So I I'm super excited for it.
- 24:32But yeah, it it's gonna be a good a good time.
- 24:34So this is already an incredible season.
- 24:36I mean, there's so many shows.
- 24:38I what, six? And then there's four.
- 24:40There's ten already announced.
- 24:42And plus you have so many other things going on at the Fisher Theater.
- 24:45~ but does ATG have more surprises up their sleeves?
- 24:49We always have more surprises
- 24:51up our sleeves. I mean, as you see,
- 24:53we we're we're confirming shows all the time,
- 24:55whether it's a new comedy show,
- 24:57whether it's we've been doing like a lot of like screening orchestras,
- 25:01~ like we just like we just announced like Legend of Korra,
- 25:05Sonic, or movie screenings like Rocky or the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- 25:09So we always have something coming in that kind of will appeal
- 25:13to all audience rather than just the theater audiences that we usually see.
- 25:17I will say that last year we got to do some of the we got to go to
- 25:19the Witcher ~ show.
- 25:20Mm-hmm. Nice.
- 25:21We got to go to Rocky Horror, and there was so much,
- 25:24~ it's so different to see the the space used differently.
- 25:28Like you're kind of harkening back to some of the original movie theater vibes
- 25:32of the Fisher Theater, but also getting to see the music of The Witcher come alive.
- 25:37Like, I'm so excited for Legend of Korra My nephew won't stop talking about it.
- 25:40So, like, there is some so many different things,
- 25:43that you can do with your family or things like Blippy,
- 25:45you know, that like you could take your really young kids there and have
- 25:48a day out at the Fisher Theater and just have fun as a family that
- 25:52you can't you can't go wrong.
- 25:53Yeah, I mean th the building and the theater are so beautiful,
- 25:56so we're kinda glad that we can fill up more more days with more events while while
- 26:01we have it.
