- 0:00Speaker 1: Final segment with Gino, then we'll visit with one of
- 0:02Speaker 1: his players around the Yukon of Women's Basketball Coaches show.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Before we preview USC, let's go through the injuries. Yanna
- 0:08Speaker 1: had her surgery on Tuesday. Seems like everything went well.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Bob arsierro Or you know, one of our
- 0:19Speaker 2: team team surgeons found everything exactly the way he predicted,
- 0:26Speaker 2: and Yanna came out of it in great shape. And
- 0:32Speaker 2: his thought is, you know that in six months she'll
- 0:36Speaker 2: be playing basketball at a real high level. And you know,
- 0:40Speaker 2: that's pretty exciting for us because that means she'll have
- 0:44Speaker 2: all of our time together in June that we usually
- 0:46Speaker 2: have and then at least I'm hoping, is that right December, December, January, February, March, April, May. Yeah,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's a great thing. And she's
- 1:03Speaker 2: a difference maker in her athletic ability or toughness or aggressiveness,
- 1:09Speaker 2: and I think putting her out there on the floor
- 1:13Speaker 2: gives us something we can't reproduce with what we have
- 1:17Speaker 2: on our roster right now. So I'm thrilled for her,
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm excited for her, and I can't wait.
- 1:22Speaker 3: It almost sounds like Gino.
- 1:24Speaker 1: From what you're saying about Yanna, she took a massive
- 1:27Speaker 1: jump when she from the time that she was here
- 1:29Speaker 1: early on pre injuries and stuff to now.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I think she's learning every day, you know what,
- 1:37Speaker 2: what she's capable of doing.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Again, when kids get here.
- 1:41Speaker 2: They a lot of them anyway, they focus on this
- 1:47Speaker 2: is what I used to do in high school.
- 1:48Speaker 4: I was just you know, I was a score or
- 1:50Speaker 4: this or that.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Well, sometimes you can hold on to that, sometimes you've
- 1:53Speaker 2: got to become something other than that. And I think Yanna,
- 2:01Speaker 2: I think she's going to be a huge, huge impact,
- 2:04Speaker 2: you know, next year.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Speaking of impact players, Aubury on target still for possibly
- 2:09Speaker 1: New Year's Day.
- 2:10Speaker 4: No, no, she told me.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That hopefully mid January, which would give her about another month.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And again, every day I see her, she looks, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 2: she looks better.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Every day she feels better. So, yeah, wouldn't that be great?
- 2:34Speaker 3: And then as sounds like fifty to fifty tomorrow night.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, asy's uh, I guess what's we're probable.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We'll just leave it at that, all right, USC tomorrow
- 2:48Speaker 1: night another Top ten matchup Juju Watkins. Obviously they're a
- 2:52Speaker 1: different team than the one we saw in March, just
- 2:54Speaker 1: as Yukon is. They're briting a couple of kids from
- 2:57Speaker 1: the now defunct PAC twelve.
- 2:59Speaker 3: What have you seen from them so far as a whole.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Uh, they you know, they've added a bunch like we have.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You know, they've added an impact player at the post.
- 3:12Speaker 4: You know, the Kiki from from Stanford adds an awful lot.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You know, she's athletic, she's physical, she's strong, she's experienced,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and as you said, uh, you know, I think the
- 3:28Speaker 2: PAC twelve, you know, going away opened up a lot
- 3:36Speaker 2: of a lot of players. Talia from Oregon State, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 2: came out of high school.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Is great reputation as a shooter scorer.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Was on team uh Oregon State that got to finally eight.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You know, so they've added.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Quite a quite a.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Bit and they lost a bit. Don't get me wrong,
- 4:04Speaker 2: They lost a bit as do we. You know, they
- 4:06Speaker 2: lost a lot of experience and they've got a lot
- 4:10Speaker 2: of freshmen. So they're a little bit like us in
- 4:14Speaker 2: that respect. But as you said, you know, having someone
- 4:19Speaker 2: like Juju allows you to be better than you're supposed
- 4:23Speaker 2: to be while you're going through these growing pains. So yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: it's not just let's go out and make sure Juju
- 4:31Speaker 2: doesn't kill us and then you get silently killed by
- 4:34Speaker 2: the other guys. So it's it's a it's a tough,
- 4:37Speaker 2: tough decision to make.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Or vice versus for Lindsay's team, I'm gonna ask a question.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I'm pretty no I sure what the answer is going
- 4:44Speaker 3: to be.
- 4:45Speaker 1: This might be the last ranked team you play for
- 4:47Speaker 1: a while, but it doesn't sound like if there's any
- 4:51Speaker 1: more weight to.
- 4:51Speaker 3: This game on basically what you told the media earlier today.
- 4:55Speaker 4: I mean, if you.
- 5:01Speaker 2: If you start to play differently because it's a ranked
- 5:06Speaker 2: team versus an unranked team, that's how you lose to
- 5:09Speaker 2: unranked teams, you know, so you want to try to build, uh,
- 5:15Speaker 2: you know, some sort of consistency there where you try
- 5:19Speaker 2: to approach every game the same way. Obviously, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: there's a lot of excitement around this game, which is great,
- 5:27Speaker 2: but you know, Sunday morning, nobody lost the national championship
- 5:30Speaker 2: and nobody won a national championship. But somebody got better
- 5:34Speaker 2: and somebody needs more work to do. So I'm anxious
- 5:39Speaker 2: to see that, you know, see how we do. I'm
- 5:41Speaker 2: anxious for our players to play in that game, and
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm excited for for the fans because they're
- 5:48Speaker 2: going to see, you know, some terrific players on the floor.
- 5:52Speaker 2: And I'm yeah, I'm glad it's here, and I'm glad
- 5:58Speaker 2: the crowd is going to be crazy. You know, it's
- 6:00Speaker 2: eight o'clock instead of early afternoon, so I think our
- 6:04Speaker 2: fans have plenty of time to get game ready. Let's
- 6:08Speaker 2: put it that way, so it should be a great environment.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Finally, let's move to Christmas a little bit. What's your
- 6:15Speaker 1: go to on Christmas Day? As far as food goes.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I don't know, you know, we never really had growing up.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You know, it was pretty much a traditional Italian meal.
- 6:28Speaker 2: You know, it wasn't wasn't anything different than what you
- 6:32Speaker 2: know we would normally have.
- 6:35Speaker 4: You know, I do know that there were.
- 6:40Speaker 2: A lot more a lot more pastries, there were a
- 6:45Speaker 2: lot more a lot more meat than we normally had.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But for the most part, you know, it was very
- 6:54Speaker 2: very traditional Italian stuff. And but you know, it gives
- 6:58Speaker 2: me a chance to rye up some smelts, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: cook some cook some fish, and.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Other than that, you know, there's no like.
- 7:12Speaker 2: You know, late late in life, my mother started making
- 7:14Speaker 2: a hand which I don't know that she became a
- 7:16Speaker 2: little bit of marchanized. I think that wasn't something we
- 7:19Speaker 2: ever had, you know, growing up for in Italy.
- 7:22Speaker 3: All right, Geno, thank you as always.
- 7:23Speaker 1: We'll do it again tomorrow night. I appreciate it. Thanks
- 7:26Speaker 1: Bob all right, head coach. You know, rama with us
- 7:27Speaker 1: on the Coaches Show. More of it coming up here
- 7:29Speaker 1: in just a minute here on Larfield.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Stay with us,
