- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:49Speaker 1: years strong. For celebrating and commemorating twelve years here at
- 0:53Speaker 1: the PSD podcast show, I'm Jeff Warren. As it says
- 0:55Speaker 1: on the screen, I'm here with my buddy Eric Leonard.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We are on video Eric here. Man is pretty interesting
- 1:01Speaker 1: trying to get this figured out to start the very
- 1:03Speaker 1: first video show. Man. Good to see you, buddy, you too.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I had to wear pants for this one, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 2: just in case stand up. Yeah, this and I actually
- 1:14Speaker 2: have to pay attention and look at you, I know,
- 1:17Speaker 2: actually the other host I know.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Well it's funny, how you know, You're like, you know what,
- 1:22Speaker 1: I think I need to get a light over here
- 1:24Speaker 1: for myself. I may need to have a different setup
- 1:27Speaker 1: at this point. There's going to be a new endeavor
- 1:29Speaker 1: for us. We're going to be learning as we go
- 1:30Speaker 1: along here.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I mean, the stereotype of the middle aged guy in
- 1:36Speaker 2: his parents' basement doing a podcast. Yes, this is my basement,
- 1:40Speaker 2: I own this house. Yes, but yeah, this is this
- 1:43Speaker 2: is I mean, this is this is my basement. There's
- 1:45Speaker 2: no denying it. There's wood panel.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You pay the mortgage over here, Yes, you pay the mortgage,
- 1:50Speaker 1: so you can do whatever you want. Have that beer
- 1:53Speaker 1: fridge back there, the wood paneling. You're paying the mortgage.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I am there. You go have that reb that's beer
- 2:01Speaker 1: for all of you out there right. Yes, we got
- 2:06Speaker 1: a great show this week again. To start us off here,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we are first and foremost gonna be getting into some
- 2:13Speaker 1: Philly sports history. This is something that we used to
- 2:16Speaker 1: do so many years ago on the show. I think
- 2:18Speaker 1: even before you came on the show, Eric Lennon and
- 2:21Speaker 1: I we would dive into some Philly sports history. I'm
- 2:23Speaker 1: gonna bring that back for a little bit, see how
- 2:25Speaker 1: that goes. And then from there we're gonna get into
- 2:26Speaker 1: some Phillies talk. Phillies proved that they certainly can hang
- 2:30Speaker 1: with the Los Angeles Dodgers. We're gonna get into that,
- 2:33Speaker 1: as well as Jordan Romano really stinking it up. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: from there we're gonna get into a brief Eagles talk
- 2:40Speaker 1: about the meetings they've been having in terms of some
- 2:43Speaker 1: pre draft visits and how we're hoping this draft inevitably
- 2:47Speaker 1: goes for the Birds. And then we're gonna be getting
- 2:50Speaker 1: into a bunch of Sixers talk. We've got Sixers trophies
- 2:53Speaker 1: and awards that we're gonna be handing out this season.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I know Eric Scott more than a few that he's
- 2:58Speaker 1: gonna be handing out. I've got some as well. And
- 3:01Speaker 1: then what we're thrown down on the table this week,
- 3:03Speaker 1: We've got our good friend Sean Bernard from Fox Sports Phillies,
- 3:07Speaker 1: The Gambler and Pickswap Media, that great podcast is going
- 3:10Speaker 1: to be joining us for a discussion about how terrible
- 3:13Speaker 1: this six Er season was and what's in store for
- 3:15Speaker 1: this team is. We're already looking towards the off season,
- 3:18Speaker 1: so let's start off with some Philly sports history. It
- 3:22Speaker 1: was interesting, you know, going through the computer. I was
- 3:25Speaker 1: going through the computer and happened to come upon some
- 3:30Speaker 1: moments in Philly sports history. And in April of nineteen
- 3:35Speaker 1: thirty four, specifically April eighth, nineteen thirty four, the Philadelphia
- 3:39Speaker 1: Athletics and the Philadelphia Phillies played their first legal, legal
- 3:44Speaker 1: Sunday baseball game in Philadelphia, following the state of Pennsylvania's
- 3:49Speaker 1: decision to allow Sunday games to be played. Then April thirteenth,
- 3:55Speaker 1: nineteen fifty four, the Philadelphia Athletics won their final opening
- 3:59Speaker 1: day game in Philadelphia, defeating the Boston Red Sox six
- 4:03Speaker 1: to four at Connie Max Stadium. And now this marked
- 4:06Speaker 1: the beginning of their last season before relocating to Kansas City.
- 4:12Speaker 1: April sixth, nineteen sixty eight, the Philadelphia Flyers. They secured
- 4:16Speaker 1: their first ever NHL playoff victory by defeating the Saint
- 4:20Speaker 1: Louis Blues four to three in the quarterfinal round of
- 4:23Speaker 1: the playoffs. And then from there we're going to move
- 4:25Speaker 1: to two thousand and four. April twelve, two thousand and four,
- 4:28Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Phillies played their first regular season game at
- 4:31Speaker 1: Citizens Bank Park. Although they were defeated four to one
- 4:35Speaker 1: by the Cincinnati Reds, the game marked the beginning of
- 4:38Speaker 1: a new era in Phillies baseball. And then, finally, in
- 4:41Speaker 1: twenty ten, the Philadelphia Union, the city's major league soccer team,
- 4:46Speaker 1: the first major league soccer team here to the city
- 4:48Speaker 1: of Philadelphia, won their inaugural game home opener by defeating
- 4:52Speaker 1: DC United three to two at Lincoln Financial Field. So, Eric,
- 4:57Speaker 1: there's some sports history in the world of Philly sports
- 5:01Speaker 1: that happened this particular week all of those years ago.
- 5:06Speaker 1: The first one.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I mean, I'm assuming the Sunday thing was like a
- 5:10Speaker 2: religious I guess it had to be.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I guess it had to be. I'm not one hundred
- 5:15Speaker 1: percent sure, but the state actually made the decision for
- 5:20Speaker 1: the phil I'm not sure if it was Phillies or
- 5:22Speaker 1: just professional sports teams in general to be able to
- 5:25Speaker 1: play games on Sunday. And that was nineteen thirty four.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I mean, that's not even one hundred years ago at
- 5:31Speaker 1: this point.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was like not long after prohibition I think.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And Pennsylvania has always had some weird drinking laws. I
- 5:39Speaker 2: wonder if that's with a religious angle and the drinking
- 5:42Speaker 2: law thing, maybe that's why they couldn't do it a Sunday. Yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 2: there's certain segments of society now that kind of want
- 5:49Speaker 2: to go back to that. Yes, it doesn't happen anyway
- 5:55Speaker 2: for the Flyers that their first playoff win?
- 5:57Speaker 1: What year was that in history with the fly That
- 6:01Speaker 1: was the let me see here really quick. That was
- 6:04Speaker 1: April sixth, nineteen sixty.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Eight, Okay, was that their last playoff win or as
- 6:10Speaker 2: a franchise.
- 6:11Speaker 1: It feels like it absolutely feels like it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Geez, I'm just throwing Shaye because I don't know much
- 6:17Speaker 2: about the Flyers things. Yeah, and the Phillies two thousand
- 6:23Speaker 2: and four. I was actually at that game in out
- 6:26Speaker 2: and left field.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Were you actually at Were you at that game? Yeah?
- 6:29Speaker 2: About twenty year ours up behind left field and one
- 6:32Speaker 2: of the drunker crowds I've ever seen, because I mean
- 6:36Speaker 2: I went to the first and last game at the
- 6:38Speaker 2: VET the previous year. Didn't think people could get any
- 6:40Speaker 2: drunkard than those, but the bank proved me wrong. That
- 6:47Speaker 2: it was I think the fact that people could just
- 6:49Speaker 2: walk around for the first time at a baseball game, yeah, openly,
- 6:54Speaker 2: and not have the fear of like tumbling down steps.
- 6:57Speaker 2: There was really nowhere to stand and just watch the
- 6:59Speaker 2: game without security guard. It's just bum rushing, you say,
- 7:01Speaker 2: get the hell out of here. So it was much
- 7:04Speaker 2: much more relaxed atmosphere, but it turned into more of
- 7:06Speaker 2: a Margueritaville situation. Yeah, at Philly games.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And yeah, that's a good way to describe it, very
- 7:12Speaker 1: good way to describe it. So all right, well that's
- 7:14Speaker 1: a first segment we wanted to get into here Philly
- 7:17Speaker 1: sports history this week. And look, folks, you know there's
- 7:22Speaker 1: every now and again whether it's Eric on the show
- 7:24Speaker 1: or Len on the show. Sometimes we're gonna have some
- 7:26Speaker 1: breaking news. We may be able to get into it,
- 7:28Speaker 1: may not be able to get into it right before
- 7:31Speaker 1: we hit the record button. Eric, I know you will
- 7:34Speaker 1: not be able to talk about this, so totally cool.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But Daniel Gazdag from the Philadelphia Union was sent to
- 7:42Speaker 1: Columbus and the Union are getting some cash, so Len
- 7:45Speaker 1: and I are going to be talking about that in
- 7:47Speaker 1: particular next week on the show. I'm not going to
- 7:50Speaker 1: make you talk about the Philadelphia Union at all, so,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I mean you probably would only have make maybe two
- 7:54Speaker 1: or three words maybe.
- 7:56Speaker 2: How much cash is involved with an MLS player, But
- 7:59Speaker 2: it forty thousand.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I'm perhaps more than that.
- 8:03Speaker 2: You know, I'm a soccer because my son plays, and
- 8:07Speaker 2: I do watch some MLS, but like, I just also
- 8:10Speaker 2: know how much money they make, the everyday players, so
- 8:12Speaker 2: I can't I can't imagine how much cash was exchanged
- 8:15Speaker 2: between those two.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Probably not that much. I mean, it's not not talking
- 8:19Speaker 1: MLB or NFL type money when it comes to Major
- 8:22Speaker 1: League soccer and stuff, so it's yeah, not that much.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I know a lot of.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Is Darryl Moury, the GM of the Union. Now, why
- 8:30Speaker 2: are you selling players off?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Or apparently he's probably infiltrated it in some way, shape
- 8:36Speaker 1: or form here.
- 8:37Speaker 2: We might come back to that later a later segment.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Who maybe Josh Harris is a new owner. Maybe we'll
- 8:43Speaker 1: come back to him too. Where's he there exactly? Oh god, well, folks,
- 8:49Speaker 1: let's get into some Phillies talk here. The season has
- 8:53Speaker 1: been positive for this Philadelphia Phillies team. They won their
- 8:56Speaker 1: first as of US recording, this their first three series
- 9:00Speaker 1: of the season, and that last series with the La Dodgers,
- 9:06Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Phillies really proved that they are able to
- 9:09Speaker 1: hang with the Dodgers, beating them in the recent series.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So I think, you know, as we were talking about
- 9:15Speaker 1: this pending season, this twenty twenty five season, Eric, we
- 9:19Speaker 1: were talking about and I was talking about it with
- 9:21Speaker 1: Lenn as well, that you know, whether or not we
- 9:23Speaker 1: should be excited for this season and where this team
- 9:28Speaker 1: could potentially go because this is a talented team. But
- 9:31Speaker 1: there were just a lot of naysayers. Again, we talked
- 9:33Speaker 1: about it here on this podcast platform. Should Phillies fans
- 9:38Speaker 1: be excited for where this team is at right now? Absolutely,
- 9:41Speaker 1: they should be and look, we got to go through
- 9:43Speaker 1: this entire season before any postseason play. The Braves absolutely
- 9:48Speaker 1: stink in this division? Are they are horrendous at this point,
- 9:53Speaker 1: It's amazing to me where that team already is at.
- 9:57Speaker 1: US Phillies fans, we should be really excited about where
- 10:00Speaker 1: this team is at right now. Eric and uh, I
- 10:03Speaker 1: think some of the naysayers coming into this season they
- 10:05Speaker 1: should be eating crow right now, and they should really
- 10:07Speaker 1: uh be taking a step back to say this Phillies
- 10:10Speaker 1: team is one of the best in Major League Baseball.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Here, I haven't heard eating crow in a long time.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll pull them all out. You know that.
- 10:22Speaker 2: If I had a Bingo board or whatever card, Uh yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 2: that one went. I have been on there, but I
- 10:29Speaker 2: get to put it on there because it's up there
- 10:30Speaker 2: with uh see the force of the trees.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, we need to have the jet. We need
- 10:34Speaker 1: to have a Jeff Bingo card.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I think for my horrendous I think, now that we're
- 10:39Speaker 2: on video, the three of us lend included, we should
- 10:42Speaker 2: have a our favorite Jeff sayings yes or like yeah
- 10:47Speaker 2: that he says the most.
- 10:49Speaker 1: If I see an attractive looking lady or something like that. Oh,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't throw her out of bed freeing crackers.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Hmmm mmmm. That's always been my favorite one because you
- 10:57Speaker 2: said it the first time I've heard you say. You
- 10:58Speaker 2: just said out of nowhere, And I'm like, would you say, Grandma, Like,
- 11:02Speaker 2: what where did this come from?
- 11:04Speaker 3: Really?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Her twenties, I just said out of nowhere? It's great
- 11:11Speaker 2: any hoosies y, Yeah, if you're not excited, get the
- 11:16Speaker 2: break out of my town. Man, Like, yeah, I don't
- 11:18Speaker 2: know what to tell you. Like the Sixers are a
- 11:21Speaker 2: dumpster fire, which we'll talk about later. Of course, the
- 11:23Speaker 2: Flyers one tonight, but like they're they're kind of going
- 11:25Speaker 2: nowhere and been going over for a while. The Eagles,
- 11:29Speaker 2: thank god, won the Super Bowl, and the Phillies are
- 11:31Speaker 2: just one thing has jumped out to me this this year.
- 11:33Speaker 2: They're eight and three. They should have won last night too.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I watched the whole game. I let the brace back
- 11:37Speaker 2: into it. That's going to happen throughout the year. But
- 11:41Speaker 2: just it's just what a professional baseball team. Yeah, I
- 11:44Speaker 2: know it's a cliche, but like they just have professional hitters,
- 11:49Speaker 2: professional pitchers all all over the entire roster, top to bottom,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and like tonight Trey Turner. You know, I've given him
- 11:56Speaker 2: a lot of shit on the show, and sometimes rightfully.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So Yeah, he's he's faltered in the playoffs he did
- 12:05Speaker 2: last year, but you know, comes up, hits a home run,
- 12:08Speaker 2: puts sub fourth three of them. When the game, Alvarado
- 12:09Speaker 2: comes in to close it out. Taylon Walker has been
- 12:12Speaker 2: phenomenals at two starts this year.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, almost no era. He's just he's he's filling in
- 12:18Speaker 2: for Range Suarez who's going to be out for a while.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Just stepped up and he's doing his job. And that's
- 12:24Speaker 2: what that's what you expect with a expensive veteran Layden
- 12:27Speaker 2: team like this, And there's been bad examples of it
- 12:31Speaker 2: throughout you know baseball history, some of the late twenty
- 12:35Speaker 2: tens Phillies where that still had Chase Sutley for two
- 12:38Speaker 2: months for too long and Ryan Howard that's bad example
- 12:41Speaker 2: of that. But this is just a really good, solid team.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Schwarber is just destroying the ball. Yeah, but for Fortnite
- 12:47Speaker 2: with three strikeouts, doesn't matter the guy the guys has
- 12:49Speaker 2: five home runs. He just he just continues to hit.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Harper's doing what he does seems seems really healthy Stott.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I think I talked about him in the pregame the
- 12:58Speaker 2: pre show, like the previous show, has to be the
- 13:02Speaker 2: guy to step up this year. Really doing well on
- 13:04Speaker 2: the eighth spot that in two eighty and just just
- 13:08Speaker 2: a really good team and the pitching is phenomenal except
- 13:11Speaker 2: for one guy right forgot. Yeah, I was going to
- 13:13Speaker 2: bring him up. I saw I went through the pitchers tonight.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I did not see his name, Thank goodness. I think
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's why we won the game.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Yeah, probably honestly a close game Phillies ended up winning.
- 13:24Speaker 1: As we're recording this on Wednesday night. Look, Jordan Romano
- 13:29Speaker 1: is a problem here at this point. We all know
- 13:32Speaker 1: that he's allowed at least two runs in three of
- 13:35Speaker 1: his five appearances to start the season. Again as we
- 13:38Speaker 1: are recording this, he's just he's been behind in the count,
- 13:42Speaker 1: slow to the plate, and pitched with just very diminished
- 13:46Speaker 1: velocity quite frankly in the early going here. And it's
- 13:51Speaker 1: something that Rob Thompson's gonna need to get a handle on,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and this organization is going to need to get a
- 13:57Speaker 1: handle on. And I know Dave Dombrowski has been catching
- 14:00Speaker 1: some flak about bringing him on board. But look, Hazu's Lozardo.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I mean, he has been absolutely electric through his starts,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and even Joe Ross has actually pitched well enough to
- 14:11Speaker 1: enter the mix for late inning, leverage type situations. But
- 14:15Speaker 1: when it comes to Jordan Romano, I am not at
- 14:18Speaker 1: all convinced that somehow he's just going through some early
- 14:22Speaker 1: season slump. The the issues and injuries that he had
- 14:25Speaker 1: last year, it could really be coming back to bite him.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And I'm really concerned about where he's going to be
- 14:32Speaker 1: within this bullpen and really how Rob Thompson's going to
- 14:35Speaker 1: be using him. It's definitely one of the biggest concerns
- 14:38Speaker 1: on this team right out of the gate.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Eric Well, I hope he doesn't use him. I hope
- 14:42Speaker 2: that's the solution. Yeah, he's Yeah, I think from what
- 14:46Speaker 2: he's looked like so far, almost beyond injury at this point.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But you never know with relief pitchers, you never know
- 14:51Speaker 2: what baseball players right. But I can't throw too much
- 14:56Speaker 2: shade at Dombrowski. Just when when you have such an
- 15:00Speaker 2: expensive team already and you have limited you know, you
- 15:04Speaker 2: have limitations and what you can do in the off season.
- 15:07Speaker 2: You got to take swings like Max Kepler right now,
- 15:10Speaker 2: he's bat in two twelve, but he's you know, he
- 15:14Speaker 2: might turn it around. He might be okay. Jordan Ramondo
- 15:17Speaker 2: might be okay. It's it's the same as, uh, you
- 15:22Speaker 2: know what the Eagles did in the off season last year.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You bring in you how many bites of the apple
- 15:27Speaker 2: whatever term you want to use, like darts at the
- 15:29Speaker 2: dart at darts of the board, and and some are
- 15:32Speaker 2: going to work out. Joe Ross looks fantastic. Alvarado looks fantastic.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I know you can sign him, but like maybe Jordan
- 15:38Speaker 2: Romond doesn't hit, that's okay. Like you if there's one
- 15:41Speaker 2: position at the trade deadline that you can upgrade, it's
- 15:46Speaker 2: always relief pitcher. Like it's as long as you have
- 15:49Speaker 2: a good closer middle relief, you're okay. It's like there's
- 15:54Speaker 2: plenty of plenty of opportunity to pick up somebody down
- 15:57Speaker 2: the road. If the bats keep hitting like they're hitting,
- 16:01Speaker 2: maybe Romano gets some time to like get healthy or
- 16:05Speaker 2: get right, whatever you want to say.
- 16:07Speaker 1: He's got a fifteen point seventy five e er.
- 16:10Speaker 2: He's been extremely disappointing. I'm not I'm not down playing it. No,
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm just saying what to give Don Browski shit for it.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It's just like, Okay, he tried, Yeah he gave a shot.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I think they're trotting out there every day and he's
- 16:22Speaker 2: losing games left and right. We're eight and three right now,
- 16:24Speaker 2: they win tonight. It's just just one of those early
- 16:27Speaker 2: season like damn, Like I think I even I think
- 16:29Speaker 2: I even referenced him during the previous show, like this
- 16:32Speaker 2: guy might do something for this year, and it's yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna happen. But like you said,
- 16:36Speaker 2: they picked up Wizardo. He was terrible last year. He
- 16:38Speaker 2: was hurt, yep, and he looks he looks like a
- 16:42Speaker 2: not an ace, but like you know, he looks like
- 16:43Speaker 2: a great number three pitcher and he didn't even have
- 16:45Speaker 2: to be.
- 16:46Speaker 1: There are guys on this team that have stepped up
- 16:48Speaker 1: big time right out of this gate. I say stepped up,
- 16:51Speaker 1: But it feels like JT. Real Muto as much as
- 16:54Speaker 1: I had a concern about him right out of the gate,
- 16:57Speaker 1: just kind of maybe on the downslide of his career,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you know, is that arm thrown from behind home plate
- 17:05Speaker 1: all the way to second base, Like it seems like
- 17:07Speaker 1: he has not missed a step at all. And in fact,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I think it was a first game against the Dodgers,
- 17:12Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, he basically took over the whole game.
- 17:15Speaker 1: It was. It was like a JT. Real Muto game.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I sit back and I'm like, you know what, I
- 17:19Speaker 1: think he's gonna be fine. I think he'll be fine
- 17:21Speaker 1: this weekend, you know, if he stays healthy. And so
- 17:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of various elements on this team that,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you know, one like you're saying, got to be patient
- 17:30Speaker 1: when it comes to certain elements on this team, but
- 17:32Speaker 1: others that we kind of had some questions about coming
- 17:35Speaker 1: into this season. Some of these players have just been
- 17:37Speaker 1: performing really well and at a high level. Well.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and to go back to my point of I
- 17:43Speaker 2: called them a veteran, leaden experienced team. They can also
- 17:47Speaker 2: step up to the moment, you know.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 2: They they had the World Champions coming into their house.
- 17:53Speaker 2: It was the last weekend and man just took two
- 17:58Speaker 2: or three, but like kind of kind of kicked their
- 18:00Speaker 2: u a little bit a little bit, like kind of
- 18:02Speaker 2: stole that one game from them, And like I got
- 18:05Speaker 2: a feeling there was they were in that locker room
- 18:07Speaker 2: being like, nah, let's let's go like they're not they're
- 18:10Speaker 2: not better than us, say they are better than them.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I mean, just look at the roster. But I feel
- 18:15Speaker 2: like they took that series personal. And I know it's
- 18:18Speaker 2: early in the season, but that kind of stuff matters, yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 2: down the road, especially for the younger guys, you know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: like Stott and Bam, like they need to see that stuff.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And I thought that. I thought that series was really
- 18:27Speaker 2: really important, especially for Real Muto, who I think might
- 18:30Speaker 2: have taken some of the personal as well, because there's
- 18:33Speaker 2: no way he wasn't hearing like the whispers of like
- 18:35Speaker 2: maybe when is he going to start playing first base?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Right?
- 18:37Speaker 2: Because he can't be a catcher forever, you know. I
- 18:40Speaker 2: think I even mentioned in the previous show, like is
- 18:42Speaker 2: this his last legit season a catcher? And then you
- 18:46Speaker 2: got to figure out where to put Harper because you
- 18:47Speaker 2: got to stick real Mood to it first because he
- 18:49Speaker 2: can't be I have to play the rest of his career.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So yeah, it's it's been a fun season. Like Eric said,
- 18:54Speaker 1: this team is eight and three as of us recording
- 18:57Speaker 1: this very successful thus far Phillies season, and we are
- 19:02Speaker 1: getting ready to take a break here, folks. And with
- 19:05Speaker 1: that said, if you are not following us on various
- 19:09Speaker 1: social media platforms, here are some areas where you can
- 19:13Speaker 1: follow us, whether it's Instagram, on Twitter, I'm over on TikTok.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm putting up some videos every now and then. My
- 19:20Speaker 1: kids have actually said Eric that they've actually said, you
- 19:23Speaker 1: know what you're you're You're doing a pretty good job. Dad.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I can't believe it. So also we're on face TikTok. Yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I guess they actually said I'm doing a good job
- 19:33Speaker 1: with it somehow for some reason, Threads we are on
- 19:36Speaker 1: and also Blue Sky as well. Follow us on various
- 19:40Speaker 1: social media sites out there. So as Eric drinks a
- 19:43Speaker 1: beer here, we are gonna take our first break here
- 19:47Speaker 1: and we'll be back in just a bit. All right,
- 19:51Speaker 1: we are back, and now we're going to get into
- 19:54Speaker 1: this Philadelphia Eagles off season even more here. How are
- 19:58Speaker 1: we hoping that this is gonna go for the Birds?
- 20:02Speaker 1: They have been talking to a number of players and prospects,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and they've had several pre draft visits and we're talking
- 20:09Speaker 1: about them looking at every position from cornerback to safety
- 20:14Speaker 1: to defensive tackle to of course edge rushers as well,
- 20:18Speaker 1: offensive tackles, offensive guards as well. Next week on the show,
- 20:22Speaker 1: We're gonna have a PST special podcast where I'm gonna
- 20:25Speaker 1: be talking to Matt Waldman, one of the best NFL
- 20:28Speaker 1: scouting prospects that there is out there, comes on the
- 20:32Speaker 1: show once a year. We talk about these prospects right
- 20:35Speaker 1: before the NFL Draft. So stay tuned next week for
- 20:39Speaker 1: our discussion with Matt Waldman. But Eric, I have never
- 20:43Speaker 1: felt a time being an Eagles fan where I'm going
- 20:47Speaker 1: into a draft and I'm hearing about all these pre
- 20:50Speaker 1: draft visits with all these different positions, and I think
- 20:54Speaker 1: to myself, if they take this guy, if they take
- 20:57Speaker 1: this position, if they decide to go in this direction,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and I'm gonna be fine with it. Like I'm just
- 21:02Speaker 1: gonna be fine with it. I feel like, aside from yes,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I think a need at cornerback of course, the defensive line,
- 21:10Speaker 1: from an interior pass rush standpoint, to edge rushers as well,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I think those are going to be priorities for this team.
- 21:18Speaker 1: In the trenches as well. Even from the offensive line standpoint,
- 21:21Speaker 1: I feel though any first round pick that how he makes,
- 21:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be like a yeah, this is gonna be great,
- 21:27Speaker 1: This is gonna be fantastic whoever, whoever, It's gonna be
- 21:31Speaker 1: same for the second round as well. This is a
- 21:34Speaker 1: team that has twenty draft picks over the next two seasons.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It's astonishing, and they may get more. If the Eagles
- 21:42Speaker 1: trade back out of the first round, they're gonna have more.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So I don't know, I've never felt this with this
- 21:48Speaker 1: Eagles team, where any draft pick that they make on
- 21:51Speaker 1: Day one that I'm gonna be totally cool with. I
- 21:54Speaker 1: don't know. Are you feeling that as well?
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you know the past, like when the Eagles were
- 22:00Speaker 2: like at the lower end of the first round and
- 22:02Speaker 2: they would trade out into the second round on Thursday night,
- 22:05Speaker 2: there'd be a bit of like, uh, we spent three
- 22:08Speaker 2: and a half hours watching this right, Yeah, what is
- 22:12Speaker 2: it next? Next Thursday? Two weeks from now, Yeah, two Thursdays. Yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I don't care what they do, man' This is the
- 22:19Speaker 2: definition of playing with house money. And I'll say that
- 22:22Speaker 2: because like, here's the reason why we look at the
- 22:25Speaker 2: roster now that free agency is over. Pretty much they
- 22:29Speaker 2: brought everyone back for the most part, Like I'm not
- 22:32Speaker 2: worried about who who left. Josh Sweat might be the
- 22:34Speaker 2: most like concerning one, right, but I feel like I
- 22:38Speaker 2: feel like his position and hit, like what he brought
- 22:40Speaker 2: to the tables kind of replaceable in the first or
- 22:44Speaker 2: second round honestly, or agency down the road or.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So.
- 22:50Speaker 2: The roster number one, number two, the way they kick
- 22:53Speaker 2: the shit out of the Chiefs is still fresh in
- 22:56Speaker 2: everyone's mind. It wasn't just like, oh, the Eagles played well.
- 23:00Speaker 2: They they kick the crap out of the like one
- 23:03Speaker 2: of the best teams in the league in front of
- 23:05Speaker 2: ever having many people, millions of people, and it was like,
- 23:09Speaker 2: why I can't possibly get upset for one second about what.
- 23:12Speaker 1: They do right draft?
- 23:14Speaker 2: What I will say though, is I think since this
- 23:16Speaker 2: is the definition of playing with house money for Howie,
- 23:19Speaker 2: like I could see him wheeling and dealing left and
- 23:22Speaker 2: right because you're not going to keep twenty players on
- 23:27Speaker 2: the roster over the next two years from the draft,
- 23:29Speaker 2: so I think, why not go after a veteran or
- 23:34Speaker 2: two if they're available, you know, not unlike the AJ
- 23:36Speaker 2: Brown trade, right, not not quite like to that caliber,
- 23:41Speaker 2: but like just something like that that we're not really sure,
- 23:44Speaker 2: like you know, you're be that'd be kind of move
- 23:48Speaker 2: to like filling some holes on the roster that like
- 23:52Speaker 2: because this team's a little not a little older, they're young,
- 23:54Speaker 2: but like there's you know, you're already in winning mode.
- 23:57Speaker 2: So if you want to bring a guy that's like
- 23:58Speaker 2: twenty six, twenty seven who can like he in the
- 24:00Speaker 2: next two years, go ahead and do it, because you
- 24:03Speaker 2: know part of your patri and agenda, Like what are
- 24:05Speaker 2: we hoping we see? I hope how he does his thing.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I hope he doesn't rest in his laurels and sit
- 24:11Speaker 2: back be like I got one in the I got
- 24:13Speaker 2: one in the trophy case. I'll just take my picks. Yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 2: if there's guys out there, there's rumors about players that
- 24:19Speaker 2: can help us, like d do it. I'm down absolutely,
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah if you do.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Even if you do take some of the some future
- 24:27Speaker 1: picks from next year, you package them together to bring
- 24:30Speaker 1: that next that next safety, you know. I mean maybe
- 24:33Speaker 1: they I don't know, maybe they are able to get
- 24:36Speaker 1: a Penn State safety Jalen Reed. Perhaps maybe they can
- 24:40Speaker 1: get him, Maybe they feel that he might be the
- 24:42Speaker 1: future at the safety position. But when you look at
- 24:45Speaker 1: the fact that Sydney Brown might be back there this
- 24:48Speaker 1: coming season, read blanken Ship has certainly proven himself to
- 24:51Speaker 1: be more certainly more than a serviceable safety. But if
- 24:55Speaker 1: you're bringing in somebody on a CJ. Gardner Johnson level
- 25:00Speaker 1: ish somewhere around that degree, and you're trading some picks
- 25:04Speaker 1: to get that person from another team or that player
- 25:06Speaker 1: from another team, absolutely do it. You know. I would
- 25:09Speaker 1: say the same for the defensive pass rushers as well.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I think that's where if you want to package some
- 25:17Speaker 1: of these picks to make a deal with another team
- 25:20Speaker 1: to bring an already established player onto this team, this
- 25:23Speaker 1: is the absolute year to do.
- 25:24Speaker 2: It, oh easily, and it's it's a great trade off.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I mean, if he sits back and just takes the
- 25:31Speaker 2: best player available offensive lineman or defensive line, because that's
- 25:34Speaker 2: kind of where they that's the smart move and that's
- 25:36Speaker 2: kind of what he does. Yeah, totally fine with it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: If he makes a move where he brings in a
- 25:41Speaker 2: veteran and trades away future picks, cool, I it's it's
- 25:45Speaker 2: it's a can't lose draft, which in the past, like
- 25:49Speaker 2: we're you know, we're you and I are big NFL
- 25:51Speaker 2: draft fans and an NBA draft for me too. It's
- 25:55Speaker 2: it's like heart attack night. Yeah, yeah, you got to
- 25:58Speaker 2: make the right move if we're gonna win this year.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And I hope that is you just mentioned defensive end.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I hope that's the position they target, either through a
- 26:07Speaker 2: draft pick or through a trade, because as you saw
- 26:11Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl, that's how they won that game. Yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 2: they just dominated the line and just took over.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Absolutely. Absolutely. I don't have anything else here for the Birds.
- 26:20Speaker 1: But again, folks, we're gonna be getting into some Eagles
- 26:23Speaker 1: talk and certainly some prospects talk next week again on
- 26:26Speaker 1: our PST Special podcast, where Matt Waldman's gonna be joining us,
- 26:30Speaker 1: one of the best in the business. He's gonna be
- 26:32Speaker 1: jumping on to talk about a ton of offensive prospects.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So let's move on. Here, we were diving into the Phillies,
- 26:41Speaker 1: we were diving into the Eagles. Now we've got to
- 26:44Speaker 1: get into the Philadelphia seventy six ers, who Eric we
- 26:46Speaker 1: have not talked about very much at all over these
- 26:50Speaker 1: past few weeks, and for very good reason. But this
- 26:52Speaker 1: week and here on our inaugural video podcast, we have, folks,
- 26:58Speaker 1: some Philadelphia seventy six There's awards and trophies that we
- 27:03Speaker 1: want to hand out to certain individuals, either on this
- 27:06Speaker 1: team or affiliated with this team. Eric, I know you've
- 27:11Speaker 1: got some. I've got two. I've got two basic trophies
- 27:15Speaker 1: that I want to give out. So why don't you
- 27:17Speaker 1: start off with a couple, and then I'll do one,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and then we'll kind of just go back and forth.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Okay, I have a bunch because this is my team
- 27:25Speaker 2: and this has been one of the most peculiar seasons
- 27:29Speaker 2: they've had in a long time.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:30Speaker 2: I don't really cared about them too much beyond them losing.
- 27:35Speaker 2: So this was actually fun to sit down and come
- 27:37Speaker 2: up with some awards for this god awful team.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Just I will never remember or look back on. I'll
- 27:44Speaker 2: never have my grandkid in my Let me tell you
- 27:46Speaker 2: about their twenty five six.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Twenty five six ers. Boy what a season that was?
- 27:51Speaker 2: Oh boy, Yeah, it was just no one really played.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I mean, we'll get to one of my awards here
- 27:58Speaker 2: to commemorate that. So the first award I'm giving out
- 28:02Speaker 2: or trophy, whatever you want to call it. And some
- 28:04Speaker 2: of my references are old because I am old. Okay,
- 28:07Speaker 2: the al Cervic Award in honor of the Rodney Dangerfield character.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Here's the trophy, folks, here's one of them that we're
- 28:15Speaker 1: given out right here, look at that boy that that
- 28:17Speaker 1: looks stellar?
- 28:19Speaker 2: Can we break these in half next time? Just because
- 28:22Speaker 2: this is how bad the season went. This one goes
- 28:26Speaker 2: out to Paul George.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Okay, the al Cervic Award.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, because you know one point in the in
- 28:32Speaker 2: the movie, you know, he gets hit by the golf ball.
- 28:33Speaker 2: At the end, he goes, oh my mom, it's broken,
- 28:36Speaker 2: starts shaking it.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's broken.
- 28:41Speaker 2: So Paul George about thirty minutes, there are thirty games
- 28:44Speaker 2: into the season, goes, oh, my finger hurts. All of
- 28:49Speaker 2: a sudden, my back hurts. He's done for the year. Yeah,
- 28:53Speaker 2: just done, like exits stage right. I love it because
- 28:57Speaker 2: you were I mean, you weren't helping us anyway. You
- 29:00Speaker 2: had a few good games. We want we need to
- 29:01Speaker 2: start tanking. But like that, dude's injuries just there was
- 29:06Speaker 2: no explanation.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what's wrong with him. Yeah besides
- 29:10Speaker 2: doing you know, more podcasts and scoring points this year,
- 29:13Speaker 2: but like he might be cooked whatever. I'm just happy
- 29:16Speaker 2: that he sat his ass down due to some due
- 29:19Speaker 2: to this injury to allow us to be the fifth
- 29:22Speaker 2: worst team in the league and hopefully keep our draft picks.
- 29:24Speaker 2: So thank you, Paul George.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Very nice. You know what, we're going to be getting
- 29:27Speaker 1: to Paul George again again? Okay? Or maybe I should
- 29:30Speaker 1: just maybe I should just do my trophy now, ye,
- 29:33Speaker 1: just do it, because it's a Paul George trophy. It's
- 29:35Speaker 1: called the Mystery Trophy, and it's kind of like kind
- 29:38Speaker 1: of kind of what you know, in the same regard
- 29:41Speaker 1: of your particular Awarden Trophy when it comes to Paul George.
- 29:45Speaker 1: So mine is the Mystery Trophy. And what I mean
- 29:49Speaker 1: by this, folks, is what kind of Paul George are
- 29:53Speaker 1: we going to end up seeing from here on out?
- 29:57Speaker 1: Because there are already questions coming into this season about
- 29:59Speaker 1: what type of NBA player he was, how he was
- 30:01Speaker 1: gonna fit with Embiid, how he was gonna fit with
- 30:03Speaker 1: Tyrese Maxi, the impact that he was going to have.
- 30:07Speaker 1: It is still a mystery. It is still a mystery
- 30:10Speaker 1: what type of player he is. And I'm certainly gonna
- 30:13Speaker 1: be getting into it with our guest on this week's
- 30:15Speaker 1: show and just a bit Sean Bernard. Is Paul George washed?
- 30:18Speaker 1: Is he washed? At this point? We don't know is
- 30:20Speaker 1: he going to be a serviceable player? Is you know,
- 30:22Speaker 1: he's certainly not going to probably be the player that
- 30:24Speaker 1: he was even three years ago. But uh, the mystery
- 30:28Speaker 1: trophy I'm given to Paul George here and I love
- 30:30Speaker 1: you gave him the al Cervik one, Paul George. He
- 30:34Speaker 1: deserves a lot of trophies and awards at.
- 30:35Speaker 2: This point because the injuries came in fast, Yes, and
- 30:40Speaker 2: with no explanation. Yes, And I swear if one was
- 30:42Speaker 2: like finger yes in the box, in the box score
- 30:45Speaker 2: out with a finger. And I know you're a big
- 30:48Speaker 2: JFK fan the movie. I do like m He's an
- 30:52Speaker 2: enigma wrapped in a riddle at this point. Yes, I
- 30:54Speaker 2: don't know what he's bringing to his table next year,
- 30:57Speaker 2: No clue. I don't know who is as a player,
- 31:00Speaker 2: even a person. Because we started complaining about I'm not
- 31:03Speaker 2: happy right now. I'm not having fun, Like I don't care.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, goodness, goodness.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Like I don't want to play center fifty mil your
- 31:13Speaker 2: ass in a center right now?
- 31:16Speaker 1: What do you think you? Yeah, I know I have
- 31:18Speaker 1: no idea. Yeah, well, what's your next trophy? Here?
- 31:22Speaker 2: Or okay, these next two these next two are going
- 31:25Speaker 2: out to the same person, but uh two separate. One
- 31:29Speaker 2: is positive and one is negative. The Desperate Bachelor Award, Okay,
- 31:37Speaker 2: you know how the stereotype of a woman who has
- 31:40Speaker 2: to get married like biological colock is ticking. Well, there's
- 31:43Speaker 2: a male version of it.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I used to be that in my mid twenties.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Why no, I didn't mean to say, I want to
- 31:48Speaker 2: say it out loud, but.
- 31:52Speaker 3: The Yeah.
- 31:52Speaker 2: The Desperate Bachelor Award goes out to Dr moy for
- 31:58Speaker 2: deciding to give Joel Embiid a massive, massive extension without
- 32:04Speaker 2: knowing if his knee was propped in healthy, if his
- 32:08Speaker 2: head was right yep, and he came into camp. He
- 32:11Speaker 2: played in the Olympics for no reason whatsoever. He looked
- 32:13Speaker 2: terrible over there, came into camp looking awful, had a
- 32:16Speaker 2: horrible season. He might miss next year because of his knee,
- 32:20Speaker 2: and Darryl decided, but we have to treat our players better.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Yes, because of the.
- 32:25Speaker 2: James Harden thing. I have to show the league that
- 32:28Speaker 2: might show the players in the league that we treat
- 32:29Speaker 2: our players with respect. So I'm going to give this
- 32:33Speaker 2: possibly broken down seven to two guy one hundred and
- 32:36Speaker 2: ninety five million extent. It's just outrageous. What a desperate
- 32:41Speaker 2: attempt to woo like the rest of the league's players.
- 32:45Speaker 2: But I'll say this, he recognized that things were going
- 32:48Speaker 2: south really quickly. So I'm going to and he shifted
- 32:52Speaker 2: on a dime to the tank mode. I'm going to
- 32:55Speaker 2: give him the Gordon Gecko Award for absolutely liquidating the
- 33:00Speaker 2: Sixers franchise in a matter of a couple of weeks.
- 33:03Speaker 2: In my opinion, it was amazing how fast you did it.
- 33:06Speaker 2: This should be a double trophy. Yes, this is a
- 33:08Speaker 2: double trophy. Two trophies for Darryl One. A horrific move
- 33:14Speaker 2: as a GM. But there's the second go to make
- 33:16Speaker 2: up for it, to try and keep our draft pick. Now,
- 33:18Speaker 2: if they keep the draft pick, awesome. If they lose it,
- 33:21Speaker 2: he should be fired. Yeah, and we'll take back the awards.
- 33:24Speaker 2: But what a great job in setting up the tank.
- 33:27Speaker 1: It really was. Boy, I'll tell you, I love that.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I love the whole bachelor thing. I love that because
- 33:33Speaker 1: it's like you're just trying to see what works, really,
- 33:38Speaker 1: just trying to see what where's all. I'm gonna take
- 33:40Speaker 1: a gamble here, I'm gonna it's it's me and my twenties.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Oh, I know, I was there. I was right next
- 33:50Speaker 2: to you watching it. But and I thought of you
- 33:52Speaker 2: when I gave it came up this award, But like
- 33:55Speaker 2: he was so worried about how badly the James Harden
- 33:57Speaker 2: situation when he's like, we need to send a message
- 34:00Speaker 2: that we treat the city just play truth their players.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Really well, maybe he didn't want another investigation by the NBA.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Uh oh oh, yeah, there's other ways to get around
- 34:10Speaker 2: that thing. Giving this hulking, gigantic man who may not
- 34:15Speaker 2: bill to play basketball for a two hundred million dollars guaranteed,
- 34:19Speaker 2: that's that's that's a mistake.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that very good, very good, well for me, And
- 34:24Speaker 1: it is really obvious. This is an obvious trophy and
- 34:26Speaker 1: award here with regard to the trophy for the worst
- 34:30Speaker 1: Philly sports owner, and that goes to Josh Harris. Of course,
- 34:34Speaker 1: I know, like there's a lot of folks not happy
- 34:37Speaker 1: with Josh Harris simply because he's more focused on the
- 34:40Speaker 1: Washington Commanders, who have a lot more promise than this
- 34:44Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six ers team right now and who knows
- 34:47Speaker 1: for the future. But Josh Harris not having a good
- 34:51Speaker 1: pulse on what is going on with this team, not
- 34:54Speaker 1: only during this season, but who knows what's going to
- 34:56Speaker 1: happen in future seasons. So Josh Harris he gets and
- 35:00Speaker 1: it's right up there with mister Sugarman from the Philadelphia Union,
- 35:04Speaker 1: another absolutely terrible owner, but worst Philly sports owner. I
- 35:09Speaker 1: think at this point, I'm saying it's got to be
- 35:11Speaker 1: Josh Harris. He is going to get that trophy. I mean,
- 35:15Speaker 1: here's my next award.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I'll go right in.
- 35:17Speaker 1: WHOA, all right?
- 35:19Speaker 2: And this is this is a very obscure in memoriam
- 35:24Speaker 2: of Val Kilmer. It's the Ghost in the Darkness Award
- 35:28Speaker 2: Josh Harris. It's one of Val Kilmer's movies from the nineties.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I enjoyed and.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and the movie has nothing to do with this
- 35:38Speaker 2: at all, but the word ghost is in it. Josh
- 35:40Speaker 2: Harris just he owns the Commanders and the Devils. Now,
- 35:44Speaker 2: I don't think he gives a rats ass about the
- 35:46Speaker 2: Sixers whatsoever. I don't know if he signed off on
- 35:50Speaker 2: that embiid contract. I'm sure he did because he's the owner,
- 35:52Speaker 2: but like, no input whatsoever. Haven't heard a word from
- 35:56Speaker 2: him on this disastrous season. I kind of understand it.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I probably wouldn't either. Who wants to who wants to say, like, hey,
- 36:03Speaker 2: I'm kind of responsible for this piece of ship, But yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 2: I just I've never said it's tough to It's what
- 36:12Speaker 2: was Norman Brayman, the Eagles owner back in the eighties nineties.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I mean, Buddy Ryan used to call him the the
- 36:18Speaker 2: European guy or something like that because he didn't even
- 36:20Speaker 2: care about the Eagles. He was just living in like
- 36:23Speaker 2: France or some crap.
- 36:24Speaker 1: How can you own a professional team? How can you
- 36:27Speaker 1: own a professional sports team worth billions of dollars and
- 36:31Speaker 1: you just don't care? I wonder what type of life
- 36:34Speaker 1: that would be where you just don't care. That's that's
- 36:37Speaker 1: astonishing to me.
- 36:38Speaker 2: See, I wouldn't want to be that wealthy, because so
- 36:41Speaker 2: wealthy you don't care about things. Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 36:44Speaker 2: like I I don't even I'd like to be wealthy,
- 36:48Speaker 2: no no problem there, But like I just want to
- 36:51Speaker 2: own like one team, yeah, and just care about that.
- 36:54Speaker 1: That'd be nice.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I won't want to own three teams and be like
- 36:57Speaker 2: I like the one, the other two or just a
- 36:58Speaker 2: tax right off right to live life like.
- 37:00Speaker 1: That, you know, I forget the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 37:05Speaker 2: I got three more awards real quick. Yeah, he broke
- 37:08Speaker 2: blow through these again. This is a total eighties reference.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I hope the younger kids get this. But the Ducky
- 37:17Speaker 2: from Pritty in Pink Award, which just your classic nice
- 37:20Speaker 2: guy goes up to Tyress Maxie and Jared McCain.
- 37:24Speaker 1: There really are nice boys. They're nice bar real sweethearts.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Tyres Maxie went at Joel Embiid at one point during
- 37:31Speaker 2: the year, and even the way he did it, from
- 37:33Speaker 2: all accounts, is that was just it was very like,
- 37:36Speaker 2: come on, man, come on, that's you got to step up,
- 37:39Speaker 2: and you know, like that. It's like he didn't get
- 37:41Speaker 2: in his face and it wasn't like a it wasn't
- 37:44Speaker 2: a Gilbert Rainus, you know, handgun situation. It was just
- 37:49Speaker 2: Maxie was like, hey, come on, dude, you gotta be
- 37:51Speaker 2: better than this. And and Jared McCain just a sweetheart
- 37:54Speaker 2: of a guy on TikTok awful that his knee broke.
- 37:58Speaker 2: It's kind of cool that two him are coming back
- 37:59Speaker 2: next year. It's gonna be totally healthy, and it's like,
- 38:02Speaker 2: what do we have there? Yeah, And they're and they're
- 38:04Speaker 2: nice guys, Like, I'm very happy about that. I got
- 38:08Speaker 2: two more real quick ones. Yeah, the James Cordon Award.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Oh and this is basically anything this guy is in
- 38:18Speaker 2: is completely ruined because he sucks goes out to Quentin Grimes. Now,
- 38:24Speaker 2: Quentin Grimes is good, and I'm a big fan. Well,
- 38:27Speaker 2: I know, but we're trying to tank, dude. Stop stop
- 38:32Speaker 2: scoring points.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Stop scoring twenty two twenty five a night, Just score fifteen.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Stop with your twenty eight, six and six nights. We
- 38:40Speaker 2: don't we want none of it. We can't put you
- 38:42Speaker 2: on the bench because the league might investigate it to
- 38:45Speaker 2: that point. I mean, so many guys are just like
- 38:47Speaker 2: done for the year in totally mysterious ways, Like Tyry
- 38:51Speaker 2: Smax is a back issue all of a sudden, he's
- 38:52Speaker 2: like twenty four. Yeah, it's just completely ridiculous. But and
- 38:58Speaker 2: I dislike James Cordon fly I never do.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I never knew that you did.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Oh, he's horrible.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Have we I don't think we've ever talked about that.
- 39:07Speaker 1: The dislike for James Cordon. I no, I like him. No, No,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I honestly I'm kind of indifferent. I mean, I couldn't
- 39:14Speaker 1: care less. I just I just find him.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm not. I think he's like the new Ellen. Yeah, obnoxious,
- 39:21Speaker 2: Like when is somebody gonna point out like, man, he's
- 39:24Speaker 2: annoying as hell, Like we're going to talk about this,
- 39:27Speaker 2: We're doing it now. Yeah I am. I'm hoping this
- 39:30Speaker 2: is the beginning of his downfall. Was and this is
- 39:33Speaker 2: my this is my favorite one. And it's no shade
- 39:36Speaker 2: on this guy because he's probably gonna be out of
- 39:39Speaker 2: league next year.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Just the W. T.
- 39:41Speaker 2: H Award. Who the hell goes out to Colin Castleton?
- 39:46Speaker 2: I mean, I just can't believe. Like there, listen, there's tanking,
- 39:53Speaker 2: and then there's tanking on the level of Colin Castleton.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm bringing up his numbers for tonight with.
- 39:58Speaker 1: The numbers because you know what, I don't know those
- 40:01Speaker 1: numbers at all. I don't guess what. I shouldn't know
- 40:04Speaker 1: those numbers.
- 40:06Speaker 2: No, okay, so I and last week. I'll get to
- 40:09Speaker 2: his numbers tonight. But I remember last week. Yeah, it
- 40:11Speaker 2: was a week or two ago and I flipped the
- 40:13Speaker 2: sixers on. I'm like, oh, what what the hell? Let
- 40:15Speaker 2: me watched the first quarter, right and allah and allah
- 40:18Speaker 2: didna He's going through uh, going through the players, He's like,
- 40:21Speaker 2: and the Sixers brought in Colin Castleton and they're they're
- 40:25Speaker 2: showing him warm up and they're showing his stats, and
- 40:28Speaker 2: I'm just like, I knew the tank was bad. I
- 40:32Speaker 2: don't know it was this bad, right, right, Like a
- 40:35Speaker 2: seven to one white guy weighs one hundred and forty pounds, Like,
- 40:39Speaker 2: what what the hell happened in the season? Like he
- 40:43Speaker 2: was just the epitome of like in twenty fourteen when
- 40:45Speaker 2: they tanked and I'm like, I don't even know who's
- 40:47Speaker 2: on the court. He was like, I'm like, oh my god,
- 40:50Speaker 2: who is this guy? Good lord? He had twenty eight
- 40:52Speaker 2: He played for twenty eight minutes to night twenty eight?
- 40:54Speaker 1: Did he really?
- 40:56Speaker 2: Oh my twenty eight minutes. There's only how many minutes
- 40:59Speaker 2: in the game, Jeff NBA game.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Perhaps more than that, but still there's Oh my gosh.
- 41:06Speaker 2: He played twenty eight minutes, had two points and fourteen rebounds,
- 41:09Speaker 2: four personal fouls.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Eric, my gosh, what a great award. Let's bring it
- 41:15Speaker 1: up real quick, here we go.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yes, that's my favorite one. Yes, because this is probably
- 41:20Speaker 2: it for him, so.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, wow, wow, can you imagine Nick nurse
- 41:25Speaker 1: being like, you know what, gotta put Colin him. He
- 41:27Speaker 1: needs twenty eight minutes tonight.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I mean, he was trying to lose tonight to the Wizards,
- 41:33Speaker 2: but they're they're so bad, like they even twenty minutes
- 41:36Speaker 2: of Castle Castle Collinton. I forgot Colin Castleton. Who gets
- 41:41Speaker 2: It's some shitty name I forgot already, But yeah, I
- 41:44Speaker 2: love it. God blessed the kid. But yeah, yeah, we
- 41:46Speaker 2: play him twenty eight minutes tonight. And uh yeah, by
- 41:49Speaker 2: the way, Andre Drummond didn't play tonight because of left toe. Ooh,
- 41:54Speaker 2: maybe that's what we're with this team toe fungus. Maybe
- 41:59Speaker 2: Maxie in that play for right finger. Whoa, this is
- 42:03Speaker 2: on the box score.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I'm still on the toe fungus thing. Get him some
- 42:07Speaker 1: blue star o ointment past, teddor siriasis, springworm. I don't
- 42:12Speaker 1: know why. I know these are great and put up
- 42:16Speaker 1: these stupid graphics like this, right, it's so stupid. It's great.
- 42:23Speaker 1: All right, buddy, We're gonna get to the interview this
- 42:26Speaker 1: week with Sean Bernard from Fox Sports, Phillies, The Gambler
- 42:30Speaker 1: and Pickswap Media, that great podcast and uh, you got
- 42:33Speaker 1: anything else, buddy? Before we had at here and head
- 42:35Speaker 1: to break.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Uh first AU tournament this weekend in Westchester, Pennsylvania. Rats
- 42:41Speaker 2: out of Philadelphia. Nice go Midpen motion.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Nice there there you go, all right, folks, Well again,
- 42:48Speaker 1: real quick social media sites here at the Philadelphia Sports
- 42:51Speaker 1: Table podcast show where you can follow the show. You
- 42:54Speaker 1: can follow Eric or myself. Len. He's just he's taking
- 42:58Speaker 1: a break and it could be a per vacation from
- 43:01Speaker 1: social media. We saw him this past week said his
- 43:04Speaker 1: mental health has been doing a little bit better now
- 43:06Speaker 1: that he saw off social media. So check us out there,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and uh, we're gonna see hopefully Lynn next week. Hopefully.
- 43:15Speaker 1: If there's issues Eric, you maybe have, we maybe needed
- 43:18Speaker 1: to do the show together next week.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Do I have to drive to his house?
- 43:23Speaker 1: I don't know. No, I would. I would drive there
- 43:26Speaker 1: for God's sake. I'm the one that wanted to do
- 43:27Speaker 1: the video here. So all right, buddy, Well, I'm gonna
- 43:30Speaker 1: let you go. We're gonna take a break, folks. We'll
- 43:32Speaker 1: be back in just a bit and now on the table.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Joining us this week from Fox Sports Phillies. The Gambler
- 43:44Speaker 1: also PICKSWAP Media. I specifically subscribe to that podcast over
- 43:49Speaker 1: on Apple Podcast we have got our very good friend
- 43:52Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, mister Sean Bernard.
- 43:55Speaker 1: How you doing, Sean, Yeah, Jeff, appreciate you having me
- 43:58Speaker 1: back on.
- 43:58Speaker 4: Unfortunately, I guess looking forward to this season finally winding down,
- 44:03Speaker 4: as this has been a more off the rails Sixers
- 44:05Speaker 4: season than I thought even you were as king scenario was.
- 44:07Speaker 4: But we were almost to the finish line and then hopefully, goodness,
- 44:10Speaker 4: some better days on the HRZE.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Absolutely, thank goodness, we're almost done well, I mean, as
- 44:15Speaker 1: you said, I mean, it's been a pretty terrible season
- 44:17Speaker 1: for this Philadelphia seventy six Ers team, and we're we're
- 44:20Speaker 1: already looking towards next season with the future holds for
- 44:24Speaker 1: this organization, this franchise, and this team. And thankfully there's
- 44:27Speaker 1: only a couple more games left in this season. But
- 44:30Speaker 1: you know, what we are looking forward to seeing is
- 44:33Speaker 1: if the Sixers team is really able to keep that
- 44:36Speaker 1: top six protected pick from ok See. I mean, that's
- 44:39Speaker 1: on everybody's mind right now, and the Sixers of course
- 44:43Speaker 1: want to hold on to this draft pick if they can,
- 44:45Speaker 1: and if they do, sean two part question for you here,
- 44:49Speaker 1: what does this pick mean for the team's future if
- 44:52Speaker 1: they are able to keep it. And even though you
- 44:54Speaker 1: know Derek Queen is the player that some are saying
- 44:57Speaker 1: could be coming to the Sixers via the draft, but
- 45:00Speaker 1: I'm wondering, also, who do you see them possibly drafting?
- 45:03Speaker 1: So again two part question, what does this pick mean?
- 45:06Speaker 1: And who do you see possibly coming to the Sixers
- 45:09Speaker 1: if they're able to keep this pick.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Yeah, the draft lottery will truly be a pretty fateful
- 45:14Speaker 4: day and franchise history here, and I kind of look
- 45:16Speaker 4: at it as when you think through this era. Obviously,
- 45:18Speaker 4: this championship window was assembled around Joel Embiid. I think
- 45:22Speaker 4: the Tyrese Maxi draft pick extended that window. I think
- 45:25Speaker 4: the Jared McCain draft pick created a new window, and
- 45:27Speaker 4: I think this draft pick, if they are able to
- 45:29Speaker 4: keep it, is a way to blend all of those
- 45:31Speaker 4: together there. But they have to be able to keep
- 45:33Speaker 4: it for that to be possible. Unfortunately, it is purely
- 45:36Speaker 4: at the mercy of the ping pong balls. It will
- 45:37Speaker 4: be a straight random drawling and the sixties are pretty
- 45:40Speaker 4: locked in to a sixty four percent chance of keeping
- 45:42Speaker 4: their pick there, so obviously they're pretty like last offseason
- 45:46Speaker 4: was the offseason in which they were wheeling and dealing,
- 45:48Speaker 4: making their notable news and building things up. This was
- 45:51Speaker 4: when there was going to be a little bit lighter
- 45:53Speaker 4: that there aren't that many directions they can kind of
- 45:55Speaker 4: build out this team currently.
- 45:56Speaker 3: I know that's incredibly disappointing and especially after a season.
- 45:59Speaker 4: Like that, but this draft picked having this is truly
- 46:03Speaker 4: their best chance to adding like a high caliber talent,
- 46:05Speaker 4: So they need to keep that at all costs.
- 46:07Speaker 3: So definitely send some good vibes in the pink pong
- 46:09Speaker 3: balls favor.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yep. Absolutely, I'm wondering is there a specific talent that
- 46:13Speaker 1: you're really looking at, you know, if they are able
- 46:15Speaker 1: to keep it again mentioned Derek Queen, but is there
- 46:18Speaker 1: anybody else made coming from the college ranks or even
- 46:21Speaker 1: overseas from an international perspective that may be a good fit,
- 46:25Speaker 1: not just a fit, but may be able to really
- 46:27Speaker 1: come on this team and make an impact right off
- 46:29Speaker 1: the bat.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Cooper flags the headliner of everything, and there's a
- 46:33Speaker 4: ten point five percent chance the sixer will land the
- 46:36Speaker 4: one pick, which isn't you know there's you could be
- 46:38Speaker 4: in a much more spot here. Right to the Sixer's credit,
- 46:41Speaker 4: they have certainly gone all in on the tanking approach
- 46:43Speaker 4: in the second half of the season here. So like
- 46:46Speaker 4: Cooper Flag, I think from day one would be a
- 46:47Speaker 4: guy that you step in and you're talking about a
- 46:49Speaker 4: starting five. I get there's question marks and next to
- 46:52Speaker 4: some of these guys, but if you're talking about a
- 46:54Speaker 4: potential starting five with Tyrese Maxi, Jared McCain, Cooper Flag,
- 46:57Speaker 4: Paul George, and Joel Embiid, you're in a good spot
- 47:00Speaker 4: heading right into next year.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Beyond that, I'm a big fan of Ace Bailey out
- 47:03Speaker 3: of Rutgers.
- 47:04Speaker 4: That's a guy that I also think kind of fits
- 47:06Speaker 4: the role the Sixers need as far as sort of
- 47:08Speaker 4: a power forward, sort.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Of a big man that can kind of play in
- 47:11Speaker 3: different settings.
- 47:12Speaker 4: Bailey's guy who has to clean up some stuff, but
- 47:14Speaker 4: the raw talent and just the energy that he plays
- 47:16Speaker 4: with I think is really infectious.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Who I like there.
- 47:19Speaker 4: Dylan Harper will probably be regarded as the number two
- 47:21Speaker 4: prospect pretty universally.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Also on that Rutgers team.
- 47:24Speaker 4: That's definitely disappointing that they missed the playoffs there, and
- 47:26Speaker 4: there's other guys as well.
- 47:27Speaker 3: I'm not as high on kind of the.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Guard class, a guy like Trey Johnson, I'd rather stay
- 47:31Speaker 4: away from just from the standpoint of where the Sixers
- 47:33Speaker 4: roster is currently at. Rather the biggest Derek Queen guy
- 47:36Speaker 4: in the world either. I have some skepticism about his
- 47:38Speaker 4: full NBA fit, but the talent is certainly there. So
- 47:41Speaker 4: the biggest thing is having a chance to keep a
- 47:43Speaker 4: pick and physically get a guy in this top six.
- 47:46Speaker 4: But there's a lot of young talent. This is one
- 47:47Speaker 4: of the better classes to have this type of opportunity.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Absolutely, and like we mentioned, I mean this is a crucial,
- 47:52Speaker 1: crucial draft. It's a crucial time for this seventy six
- 47:56Speaker 1: ers franchise and organization as we're looking ahead, because there
- 48:00Speaker 1: is one particular player on this team who, just two
- 48:04Speaker 1: years ago, Joe El Embiid, was one of the greatest
- 48:07Speaker 1: Philly sports figures and athletes, completely beloved and still is
- 48:13Speaker 1: to a large extent, but just after the injury history
- 48:17Speaker 1: over the past couple seasons, specifically this year. You know
- 48:21Speaker 1: what happened last summer and how that trickled into this
- 48:25Speaker 1: coming season. I mean, Sean the guy won the MVP
- 48:29Speaker 1: of the NBA just two seasons ago, even though he
- 48:33Speaker 1: went through a lot physically back then. Now it feels
- 48:36Speaker 1: like we're just at this crossroads a couple of years
- 48:38Speaker 1: later here, So I'm wondering, like, how should we really
- 48:41Speaker 1: be looking at Joel Embiid from here on out? Him
- 48:45Speaker 1: going from one of the greatest Philly sports figures and
- 48:48Speaker 1: athletes as somebody who has beloved to now us questioning
- 48:52Speaker 1: as fans, where is his career going to be going?
- 48:55Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here, buddy?
- 48:56Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's amazing how quick it happens that it's
- 48:58Speaker 4: less than a calendar year. This dude was scoring fifty
- 49:01Speaker 4: points in a playoff series here, and this is the
- 49:03Speaker 4: state of what it is here. This is certainly the
- 49:05Speaker 4: biggest crossroads of the Joel andbiad era, And for the
- 49:08Speaker 4: first time it does feel like there's some friction between
- 49:10Speaker 4: him and the organization as far as what the approaches.
- 49:13Speaker 4: Those are tough conversations to have. Is you can never
- 49:15Speaker 4: truly know what a guy is feeling like except for
- 49:18Speaker 4: what they tell you. That no one can kind of
- 49:19Speaker 4: understand their body except for that person directly. I think
- 49:22Speaker 4: that's a lot of the biggest issue here. Some of
- 49:25Speaker 4: the options that they looked at as far as the
- 49:26Speaker 4: surgeries for him or some sort of like experimental procedures
- 49:30Speaker 4: and things like that. None of it paints a very
- 49:32Speaker 4: bright future for what it could be. But like at
- 49:35Speaker 4: the same time here, I don't think the days of
- 49:37Speaker 4: Joel Embiid playing basketball over. I don't think the days
- 49:40Speaker 4: of him playing basketball at a high level are over.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Do I think his MVP days are over or him
- 49:44Speaker 4: as a top five guy in the league. I think
- 49:46Speaker 4: that is probably the case there, But I still think
- 49:48Speaker 4: there's very much a world where this guy is a
- 49:50Speaker 4: highly impactful player on the Sixers team and sort of
- 49:53Speaker 4: the power bounds within the organization begins to shift where
- 49:56Speaker 4: Tyrese Maxi is a little bit more of the front
- 49:58Speaker 4: and center guy Jared McCain, it takes on a little
- 50:00Speaker 4: bit larger of an offensive role. This potential draft pick
- 50:03Speaker 4: is a guy who is at the forefront of the production.
- 50:06Speaker 4: And Joel is not asked to be a guy with
- 50:08Speaker 4: a top five usage eight year in and year out,
- 50:10Speaker 4: as has been the case throughout his career here, So
- 50:13Speaker 4: the biggest thing is about his physical level. They're going
- 50:15Speaker 4: with an Arthur scopic surgical approach. I'm not super optimistic
- 50:19Speaker 4: about that. Basically, any NBA athlete can get that done
- 50:21Speaker 4: at any point, and it's sort of just a clean
- 50:22Speaker 4: up the knee type thing. There does not seem to
- 50:25Speaker 4: be any structural damage there. The biggest rift between them
- 50:29Speaker 4: was the sixer stance that basically your body's gonna adjust
- 50:31Speaker 4: the more you play through the pain and figure things out.
- 50:34Speaker 4: And Joel is saying that I'm just not right, like
- 50:35Speaker 4: the knee does not feel right here. So he's gone
- 50:38Speaker 4: under the knife again. This is the second surgery on
- 50:40Speaker 4: that same knee in fourteen months. Maybe this will be
- 50:43Speaker 4: a wake up call or things click the right way
- 50:45Speaker 4: this time, but at this point it's kind of based
- 50:47Speaker 4: on let's see how his body responds, and it wouldn't
- 50:50Speaker 4: shop me this time. Next year we're talking about a
- 50:51Speaker 4: little longer scale recovery surgery for Dowell.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting where his career certainly has gone. And
- 50:59Speaker 1: there's a no other gentleman on this team where it's
- 51:01Speaker 1: interesting where his career has gone as well. Lots of
- 51:04Speaker 1: US fans talking about whether or not Paul George is
- 51:07Speaker 1: basically washed. At this point, we know what kind of
- 51:10Speaker 1: season he had. It was a challenge for him from
- 51:13Speaker 1: a health perspective, and yes, again injured to start the
- 51:17Speaker 1: season after he hyper extended his knee in the preseason. Sean,
- 51:21Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on Paul George here, you know,
- 51:24Speaker 1: potentially quote being washed at this point in his career.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm more optimistic about a Paul George bounce back
- 51:31Speaker 4: season than a Joelle. As far as for next year specifically,
- 51:34Speaker 4: I think some of the how Paul George played or
- 51:36Speaker 4: how bad that he was gets a little overstated. He
- 51:39Speaker 4: certainly was not great by any means here, and he
- 51:41Speaker 4: I don't think we're ever getting the max contract fifty
- 51:44Speaker 4: two million dollar guy that we kind of thought we
- 51:46Speaker 4: signed here, the guy that has been a ten time
- 51:48Speaker 4: All Star, been in the league forever and performing at
- 51:50Speaker 4: a high level. But I do think it'll be better
- 51:52Speaker 4: than this year, to be completely fair to him, Like
- 51:55Speaker 4: he dealt with the injuries, as you mentioned that first
- 51:57Speaker 4: knee hyper extension, I thought he tore his AC I
- 51:59Speaker 4: want to have live and kind of like tough way
- 52:02Speaker 4: to start. And then the growing injury he was getting
- 52:04Speaker 4: injections just to stay on the floor, dealing with a
- 52:06Speaker 4: little bit of a hand injury as well there. So
- 52:08Speaker 4: he did battle through some things. And again fairness to Paul,
- 52:11Speaker 4: he wasn't brought in to be batman here. He was
- 52:13Speaker 4: brought in to be a complimentary great point. Yeah, and
- 52:15Speaker 4: when Joel Embiid is not there, like the kind of
- 52:18Speaker 4: the power balance of the team does not function as designed.
- 52:21Speaker 4: So I think it was a mess of a season
- 52:23Speaker 4: on just about all parts. Paul George was sort of
- 52:26Speaker 4: a symptom of that or an effect of that, more
- 52:28Speaker 4: than a cause. And I do think next year that
- 52:30Speaker 4: with a clean slate in second year, he'll be a
- 52:32Speaker 4: little bit better, and I think we can be optimistic
- 52:35Speaker 4: about that.
- 52:35Speaker 1: So what you're saying, Sean is there is hope for
- 52:37Speaker 1: the seventy six ers team down the road. They're not
- 52:40Speaker 1: going to be the Washington Wizards. Correct, they will not.
- 52:43Speaker 1: This certainly, I do think will be a one down
- 52:45Speaker 1: year and back of the next. Again, the draft pick
- 52:47Speaker 1: is that huge Ashric that we got to keep throwing.
- 52:49Speaker 1: But the other guys that I'll throw up, and that's
- 52:51Speaker 1: throwing the same conversation here. We forget just how good
- 52:54Speaker 1: Jared McCain looked in that brief specially that he was
- 52:56Speaker 1: there this season. I'm really optimist about him in the
- 52:59Speaker 1: long haul and as soon as next year that he
- 53:00Speaker 1: can really transform this offense and things look a lot different.
- 53:03Speaker 1: So even if there is not a little luck in
- 53:05Speaker 1: the lottery here, that is going to be like a
- 53:07Speaker 1: notable improvement for next year. Absolutely. And Look, one of
- 53:10Speaker 1: the storylines that we have been following and talking about
- 53:14Speaker 1: thinking about is where this Sixers front office may go
- 53:18Speaker 1: this offseason as well. And the questions are persisting about
- 53:23Speaker 1: Daryl Moury and his tenure with the Philadelphia seventy six Ers.
- 53:26Speaker 1: I guess do you think the Sixers front office, you know,
- 53:30Speaker 1: Josh Harrison company, end up keeping Daryl Morey around after
- 53:34Speaker 1: this season? And second, if they do, how does Daryl
- 53:38Speaker 1: Moury approach this upcoming offseason in terms of priorities? What
- 53:42Speaker 1: are your thoughts here, Sewan?
- 53:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I do lean toward yes.
- 53:45Speaker 4: As far as Daryl Moury being back here, I don't
- 53:48Speaker 4: think it's a surefire lock in that and I would
- 53:50Speaker 4: understand if the organization wants to go a different direction.
- 53:52Speaker 4: But I honestly think that this year is a little
- 53:55Speaker 4: bit of a case of you can make all the
- 53:57Speaker 4: right decisions and things still do go wrong.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:59Speaker 4: I do think Daryl Mourray for the most part, took
- 54:02Speaker 4: the pathway and made the decisions that were the greatest
- 54:05Speaker 4: chance at the sixers looking like a real contender this year.
- 54:07Speaker 4: It just didn't work out, and that chance obviously was
- 54:10Speaker 4: not successful there. And for all the bad that he
- 54:12Speaker 4: did do and the stuff that you know, he has
- 54:14Speaker 4: to wear. As far as DePaul George contract not agent well,
- 54:17Speaker 4: the extension to Joel Embiid, he's still got to give
- 54:19Speaker 4: him props for the other things that he do. Garshan
- 54:21Speaker 4: Yabuseli was a slam dunk minimum signing there. Jad McCain
- 54:24Speaker 4: an excellent draft pick at twenty one, didn't some other
- 54:26Speaker 4: pretty creative things at the bottom of this, this kind
- 54:29Speaker 4: of salary caps picture. Quentin Grimes, the chance to re
- 54:32Speaker 4: sign him is another one I would point to there.
- 54:34Speaker 4: So yes, it was not a ideal season where we're
- 54:37Speaker 4: seeing the results on the floor, But I don't think
- 54:39Speaker 4: Maury's specific process was the biggest issue in all this. Now,
- 54:43Speaker 4: when there is a season this off the rails, someone
- 54:46Speaker 4: tends to catch the brunt of the blame here. I
- 54:48Speaker 4: kind of think it's more likely to be Nick Norris
- 54:50Speaker 4: in this situation, especially in the ecosystem, which I mean,
- 54:53Speaker 4: in this past two weeks we've seen Taylor Jenkins and
- 54:55Speaker 4: Michael Malone be fired from the Nuggets and the Grizzlies
- 54:58Speaker 4: over there for far less. They're having far reasons there.
- 55:01Speaker 4: So I'm more so lean towards Daryl Moury being back,
- 55:04Speaker 4: but it wouldn't outright shock me if the organization does
- 55:07Speaker 4: decide to change.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I'm with you, actually, I do think that Darryl Mory's
- 55:10Speaker 1: still going to be with this team. Like you said,
- 55:12Speaker 1: you can make all the right moves during the course
- 55:13Speaker 1: of an offseason and sometimes things just go south with
- 55:17Speaker 1: what you had available for you. So just a couple
- 55:20Speaker 1: more topics here, Sean, and then we're going to end
- 55:23Speaker 1: this podcast. This week, we've been seeing players like Quinton
- 55:27Speaker 1: Grimes playing some pretty good basketball down the stretch here.
- 55:30Speaker 1: You know, Adam Bona has shown some development too since
- 55:33Speaker 1: he has been given some opportunities here and there this season.
- 55:36Speaker 1: I'm wondering which players do you think are going to
- 55:38Speaker 1: be kept around for next season based on really how
- 55:41Speaker 1: they played down the stretch here.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Yeah, And one of the things that's been nice for
- 55:45Speaker 4: this Sixers team with the expectations off the table is
- 55:47Speaker 4: you've kind of gotten a chance to just try out
- 55:49Speaker 4: a bunch of guys, see what these guys can really
- 55:51Speaker 4: do in different roles. A guy like Quentin Grimes playing
- 55:54Speaker 4: with the most basketball freedom of his entire NBA career,
- 55:56Speaker 4: and it is wild. At twenty four years old, a
- 55:58Speaker 4: guy that was a first round pick and has some
- 56:01Speaker 4: decent pedigree to his name is already in his fourth
- 56:03Speaker 4: NBA team, but he's showing what he can do, and
- 56:05Speaker 4: that is a guy I do think we'll be back
- 56:06Speaker 4: on the Sixers team. The only chance that I don't
- 56:09Speaker 4: see it happening is if a team primarily the Brooklyn
- 56:11Speaker 4: Nets are the only one that really have an opportunity
- 56:13Speaker 4: to do this from a cap perspective, but throw just
- 56:15Speaker 4: a ridiculous offer to kind of lure him away from
- 56:18Speaker 4: the organization. But I do think when they made that trade,
- 56:20Speaker 4: this was pretty locked in that the intention was to
- 56:23Speaker 4: return Quin Grimes.
- 56:24Speaker 3: They do hold his bird rights.
- 56:25Speaker 4: He will be a restricted free agent, so there is
- 56:27Speaker 4: sort of every advantage that you could ask for as
- 56:29Speaker 4: an organization for.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Retaining that player.
- 56:31Speaker 4: There a lot of the young talent has shined a
- 56:33Speaker 4: den Bona I've been really impressed with a lady exploded
- 56:36Speaker 4: for a twenty eight performance or twenty eight point performance
- 56:38Speaker 4: not that long ago. A guy that there's a clear
- 56:40Speaker 4: pathway to him being a rim running shop blocking just
- 56:43Speaker 4: your standard NBA center, I can survive and have a
- 56:46Speaker 4: ten to fifteen year career there. Justin Edwards another dude
- 56:49Speaker 4: who I could not be more impressed with, which the
- 56:51Speaker 4: way that he's scaled up his offensive role showing what
- 56:54Speaker 4: he can do. That's the guy thinks they surefire a
- 56:56Speaker 4: rotation player next year. Guy like Jared Butler has been impressive,
- 56:59Speaker 4: and that is a dude stick around. Will probably run
- 57:01Speaker 4: the second or third unit as a point guard next year.
- 57:04Speaker 4: Lottie Walker sort of a similar story. We're starting to
- 57:06Speaker 4: see him come into form here, and that's a guy
- 57:08Speaker 4: who has NBA pedigree, who has.
- 57:10Speaker 3: Been successful in the league before.
- 57:12Speaker 4: He was a little bit rocky when he first returned
- 57:14Speaker 4: to the United States, to Philadelphia and to the NBA there,
- 57:16Speaker 4: we're finally seeing his feet kind of settle in. So
- 57:19Speaker 4: a lot of these bottom of the roster guys I
- 57:21Speaker 4: do think will end up sticking around. It is strange
- 57:24Speaker 4: for a season that has a record with what we
- 57:26Speaker 4: currently said at we're talking about all these guys wanting
- 57:29Speaker 4: them back.
- 57:29Speaker 3: And that they will be back here. But I do
- 57:31Speaker 3: think that's sort of the state.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Of things again, folks. We are talking to Sean Bernard
- 57:34Speaker 1: from Fox Sports Phillies The Gambler. They do such great
- 57:38Speaker 1: work over there. Follow Sewn on the Twitter slash x
- 57:40Speaker 1: at sewn Underscore Bernard one. He is a great great
- 57:44Speaker 1: follow and also subscribe to pick Swap Media. They're talking
- 57:47Speaker 1: in everything Sixers and in the world of Philly sports too.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I know you've gotten into some Phillies and some Eagles
- 57:51Speaker 1: stuff as well over there, Sean, Do you have anything
- 57:56Speaker 1: else you want to promo before I ask you last question? Buddy?
- 57:59Speaker 3: Yeah, he pretty much nailed it there.
- 58:01Speaker 4: I don work on Sixers Digest in Phillies Digest on
- 58:04Speaker 4: YouTube channels as well, and I also writer for DraftKings,
- 58:07Speaker 4: so cranking.
- 58:07Speaker 3: Out that's what content for them as well. Absolutely appreciate it.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Yep, you got it, buddy. So as we're end in
- 58:13Speaker 1: the discussion here, finally, if you had one realistic offseason
- 58:19Speaker 1: move that you hope the Sixers would make to really
- 58:22Speaker 1: benefit this team long term, what would that one move
- 58:25Speaker 1: be and why.
- 58:26Speaker 4: I mean, not that it's one fully in their control,
- 58:28Speaker 4: but the ideal for me is absolutely Cooper Flagg being
- 58:31Speaker 4: a member of the Philadelphia seven again, seriously, yeah, And
- 58:33Speaker 4: I do think that's like a short and long term
- 58:35Speaker 4: accomplishment that as of next year he can step in
- 58:38Speaker 4: to be a guy to play next to Joel Embiid
- 58:40Speaker 4: as well as hold down a full time kind of
- 58:42Speaker 4: center spot in the games where Embiid is not there.
- 58:44Speaker 4: And in the long run, if we're talking about a
- 58:46Speaker 4: starting core of Tyrese Maxi, Jared mccainn and Cooper Flag,
- 58:49Speaker 4: I do think that is like the foundation of contender
- 58:51Speaker 4: for ten years to come there. So Cooper Flag would
- 58:54Speaker 4: be the ideal one for me. It does all come
- 58:56Speaker 4: down to that draft lottery and seeing where they slot in.
- 58:58Speaker 4: Keeping the draft pick in and stuff would be a win.
- 59:00Speaker 4: But if you can get up to that number one
- 59:03Speaker 4: pick and get a guy like Flag, that would be
- 59:05Speaker 4: a franchise changing day.
- 59:07Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting to see where this Philadelphia seventy
- 59:09Speaker 1: six ers team goes for sure. Again, folks, Sean Bernard,
- 59:12Speaker 1: thank you buddy so much for taking the time to
- 59:14Speaker 1: join us. Very much appreciate it now I'm hoping that
- 59:17Speaker 1: you jump back on at some point down the road.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I'd love to have you back on the podcast. Yeah.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Absolutely, Jeff, appreciate you having me on once again. And yeah,
- 59:25Speaker 4: I think it will be better days. We'll have a
- 59:26Speaker 4: little bit more reason for hope coming this summer for.
- 59:29Speaker 1: The absolutely, absolutely, that's gonna do it for us folks
- 59:32Speaker 1: here at the PST Podcast Show as we are celebrating
- 59:35Speaker 1: and recognizing twelve years of this show. Follow us on
