- 0:27Speaker 1: Schefter reported that, barring any setback, Kellen Moore is going
- 0:31Speaker 1: to be this the new coach of the New Orleans Saints.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I think that's something many of us said, assumed we
- 0:37Speaker 1: like the world, had assumed was going to happen. However,
- 0:41Speaker 1: the reports late last week that the Saints had not
- 0:43Speaker 1: made a decision, that they had not advised any candidates
- 0:45Speaker 1: they were out of the running, that they wanted to
- 0:49Speaker 1: meet and interview Kellen Moore again after the Super Bowl
- 0:52Speaker 1: had led me and others to say, like, they're not
- 0:54Speaker 1: one hundred percent sold yet, so.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Excuse me. They were there would be.
- 1:01Speaker 1: A report that exactly what Chefter reported on Monday, but
- 1:05Speaker 1: instead that report came on Monday, and it came and
- 1:07Speaker 1: then late Monday was the opening NYE at the Superdome,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and so Kellen Moore and every coach and every player
- 1:13Speaker 1: was available to the media. And he didn't say much
- 1:18Speaker 1: as far as being worthy and he really really can't
- 1:21Speaker 1: say much as well. But he was asked about how
- 1:24Speaker 1: the meetings went with UH with the New Orleans Saints.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Here's what he said, been a great, great experience meeting
- 1:29Speaker 3: with Vicky and the rest of that leadership group. And
- 1:32Speaker 3: so obviously had two opportunities to meet with him. Obviously,
- 1:35Speaker 3: now the focus is on this game and then we'll
- 1:37Speaker 3: let that situation play itself out after.
- 1:41Speaker 1: They he did was asked to follow up here. It
- 1:43Speaker 1: was on just that interview process with New Orleans.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Again, it was just a great opportunity to meet meet
- 1:48Speaker 3: the leadership group for Nicky and and all the rest
- 1:50Speaker 3: of the leadership group of New Orleans. You know, it's
- 1:52Speaker 3: a great group. It's a it's a group that really
- 1:54Speaker 3: cares about the team, cares about football. Had a great
- 1:57Speaker 3: conversation with those guys and see where it takes us.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Be Admittedly, and obviously Kellen Moore can't say like you said,
- 2:06Speaker 1: great conversations. We'll see where it takes us. He can't
- 2:09Speaker 1: say anything more, and I don't anticipate him too. So
- 2:11Speaker 1: there's just it's just what it is.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Uh.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The So the line of questioning started to become more theoretical,
- 2:21Speaker 1: which maybe you can glean some things like, for example,
- 2:25Speaker 1: Kellen Moore is a plate. Was a play caller in Dallas.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He was the play caller in Los Angeles with the Chargers.
- 2:31Speaker 1: He's play caller right now with the Eagles. Would he
- 2:34Speaker 1: call plays as a head coach or would he hire
- 2:36Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator? He is what he said.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Certainly I would view it that way. Yeah, I'd love
- 2:41Speaker 3: to call play Certainly, it's a it's a passion. I
- 2:42Speaker 3: it's something that has gotten me to this place. And
- 2:45Speaker 3: so certainly, uh yeah, you'd hate to stop doing what
- 2:48Speaker 3: you what you love and as you go through this.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Journey five, I am perfectly fine with that. I think
- 2:56Speaker 1: around the league of head coaches that called Sean Plate
- 3:00Speaker 1: called plays in New Orleans, Sean McVay calls plays in LA.
- 3:05Speaker 1: You think of Kevin O'Connell, Kyle Shanahan, it is Andy Reid.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It is quite common for offensive mind to head coaches
- 3:16Speaker 1: to call plays, and if I'm being frank, I want
- 3:20Speaker 1: him to call plays if in fact he does become
- 3:23Speaker 1: the head coach, because that is the appeal of hiring
- 3:28Speaker 1: a coach that is a specialty in one side of
- 3:32Speaker 1: the ball, that they can handle that side of the ball,
- 3:34Speaker 1: because there's always this concern that The example that we're
- 3:38Speaker 1: going to look to is Detroit. Detroit undeniably knocked it
- 3:43Speaker 1: out of the park with Dan Campbell as far as
- 3:45Speaker 1: hiring a coach that could build culture. He's built a
- 3:48Speaker 1: winning culture in a place that had none for the
- 3:51Speaker 1: last half a century. Okay, more than that, even Detroit
- 3:55Speaker 1: was a was Loserville, USA forever. Dan Campbell comes in
- 4:02Speaker 1: and they have changed that culture in the vibe around
- 4:04Speaker 1: that franchise, the city, the team, the field of everything.
- 4:08Speaker 1: But he also nailed his coordinator hires with Aaron Glenn
- 4:11Speaker 1: and Ben Johnson both are now head coaches. So we
- 4:14Speaker 1: are about to find out how good Dan Campbell really
- 4:18Speaker 1: is because we know that he promoted Kelvin Shephard to
- 4:22Speaker 1: defensive coordinator. How much of a gap is there, how
- 4:26Speaker 1: much of a fallback is there going from a guy
- 4:29Speaker 1: like Aaron Glenn to Kelvin Sheppard, and then we're gonna
- 4:32Speaker 1: find the same thing on the offensive side of the ball.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Can you continue to hit on those coordinators, because if
- 4:37Speaker 1: your success relies on your coordinators, you've got to keep
- 4:40Speaker 1: hitting when you lose those guys. When when you are
- 4:44Speaker 1: the guru on one side of the ball, it stands
- 4:47Speaker 1: to reason like if you're the guru on one side
- 4:49Speaker 1: of the ball, not gonna say it doesn't matter who
- 4:51Speaker 1: your coordinator is, but you always have that safety net
- 4:54Speaker 1: because you're the one tutoring the quarterbacks, you're the one
- 4:57Speaker 1: calling the plays, you're the one scheming in game. So
- 5:00Speaker 1: all of that, all of that is, I'm gonna catch
- 5:03Speaker 1: up with you.
- 5:04Speaker 2: All of that is.
- 5:08Speaker 1: All that is is super significant when hiring a head coach.
- 5:12Speaker 1: In my opinion, it's not a necessity, as evidenced by
- 5:15Speaker 1: Dan Campbell, but it's one of the reasons.
- 5:18Speaker 2: One of the appeals in my opinion of.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It's one of the appeals of having a guy that
- 5:25Speaker 1: that can handle one side of the ball. So if
- 5:28Speaker 1: it is Kellen Moore, I would want him to call plays.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Long way of.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Saying that, so yes, I would be excited about that.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Uh.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Two more one here was Kellen Moore talking about traits
- 5:37Speaker 1: that he feels a head coach bust have. Again, a
- 5:39Speaker 1: lot of this became became theory when they were talking
- 5:41Speaker 1: to More here it is, Yeah, obviously.
- 5:43Speaker 3: You know, I think it's a leadership role. You know,
- 5:45Speaker 3: you gotta you gotta leave the group. Uh, you gotta
- 5:48Speaker 3: be an expert and syme capacity, you know to what
- 5:50Speaker 3: you're you're teaching, and uh, hey you gotta bill communicate.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I really high love them.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I will tell you Also, it is published right now
- 5:58Speaker 1: at Louisiana Sports Style Net. Our guy Ross Jackson had
- 6:02Speaker 1: a chance to visit one on one with Kellen Moore
- 6:04Speaker 1: at opening night. He had an opportunity to visit with
- 6:07Speaker 1: him just in a one on one capacity, and a
- 6:10Speaker 1: lot of the conversation did gear to that right there,
- 6:12Speaker 1: which was his leadership style. Remember, More wasn't gonna be
- 6:16Speaker 1: able to say much as a as far as the
- 6:21Speaker 1: Saint's job. He did talk about the interview in New Orleans.
- 6:24Speaker 1: He did ask he was asked about about Derek Carry
- 6:27Speaker 1: mentioned them playing against each other in college. But but
- 6:29Speaker 1: that entire interview, the one on one with with Ross
- 6:32Speaker 1: Jackson and Kellen Moore is at the top of Louisiana
- 6:34Speaker 1: Sports dot Net if you want to check it out
- 6:36Speaker 1: right now. But one more and this is maybe this
- 6:41Speaker 1: is going to be for Kellen Moore, whoever takes over
- 6:43Speaker 1: this job in New Orleans, it is going to be
- 6:45Speaker 1: the most important part of how this all transpires. And
- 6:50Speaker 1: it's it's the Saint roster in the state that the
- 6:52Speaker 1: roster's currently and here was here was Kellen Moore.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I think, you know, there's a lot of good pieces.
- 6:56Speaker 3: We came down here. We had a really good battle,
- 6:58Speaker 3: you know, week three, and it was a challenge. You're able.
- 7:00Speaker 3: We were fortunately come out here with a landa, so
- 7:02Speaker 3: you can every time you come down here see would
- 7:04Speaker 3: be a challenge.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Again.
- 7:09Speaker 1: We're playing it for the sake of having Kellen Moore's
- 7:11Speaker 1: on the record comments on air not saying much. If
- 7:15Speaker 1: when he's hired, he'll say much more.
- 7:17Speaker 2: But he's right. Week three was a challenge for the
- 7:21Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles. And but for.
- 7:23Speaker 1: The the brain fart at the end of the game
- 7:25Speaker 1: and the incredible play by Saquon and and Goddard for
- 7:28Speaker 1: that matter. I mean, the Saints probably start three to zero.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It's a game that they lost. Eric McCoy remember the
- 7:34Speaker 1: first offensive series and it really I mean it really
- 7:39Speaker 1: just I mean it changed the game because of what
- 7:42Speaker 1: Phillies interior of their defensive line was able to do.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But all that to say, Kellen Moore becomes the head coach,
- 7:49Speaker 1: whoever becomes the head coach, there are going to be
- 7:52Speaker 1: major roster decisions that have to be made because, as
- 7:55Speaker 1: we mentioned, the Saints right now are the fourth old
- 7:59Speaker 1: this year, the fourth oldest roster in the NFL. All
- 8:03Speaker 1: of your top contracts, Derek Carr, cam Jordan, Tomrio, Davis, Tyron, Matthew,
- 8:10Speaker 1: older players, Ryan Ramsick, although that's now been restructured as
- 8:13Speaker 1: we know.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Older players near the end.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So coaching and calling plays in offense and all is
- 8:20Speaker 1: one the Webbs a quarterback, but also your roster construction
- 8:24Speaker 1: is going to be massive for Kellum Moore or whoever
- 8:26Speaker 1: takes this job. So just a little bit from the
- 8:29Speaker 1: Eagles offensive coordinators, he's getting ready to call plays in
- 8:31Speaker 1: the biggest game of his life before potentially taking over
- 8:34Speaker 1: in New Orleans,
