- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Kate Torber. I'm Amy Torber. And I'm Sophie Torber. And
- 0:13Speaker 1: coming up on today's show, Adam Hyde's bonds campaign turns
- 0:17Speaker 1: political and Olivia Mather's shock breakup. But first, shameless media
- 0:23Speaker 1: has unwittingly sparked a manhunt to unmask the A-list celebrity
- 0:27Speaker 1: who blocked them on Instagram. On Monday's episode, Michelle Andrews
- 0:32Speaker 1: and Zara McDonald revealed that a celebrity who they've recently
- 0:35Speaker 1: spoken about on the show went on a savage blocking spree.
- 0:39Speaker 1: So not only did this celebrity block the Shameless podcast's
- 0:43Speaker 1: Instagram account, but also Zara and Michelle's accounts and every
- 0:47Speaker 1: single member of their team, including their much-loved producer, Eilish Gill.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to some of what they said.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It's happened a third time.
- 0:58Speaker 1: When you started staring down the barrel of me.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I've saved this all morning.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I knew I actually, we don't usually talk about what
- 1:05Speaker 1: these pre-dinner mints are going to be, but I knew
- 1:07Speaker 1: that this is what it was going to be. What
- 1:09Speaker 1: did you say?
- 1:10Speaker 2: You've had me blocked again. Your actions. Your actions, I
- 1:15Speaker 2: have not had.
- 1:16Speaker 3: A single involvement in this particular thing. Your sole actions, actually, Gil,
- 1:21Speaker 3: you're involved in this as well.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Your actions. Well, you're probably blocked. What are you?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Have led to me being blocked.
- 1:26Speaker 3: And listeners, I'll let you know, this is not the
- 1:28Speaker 3: first time Zara McDonald has gotten me blocked. It's the
- 1:30Speaker 3: third time Zara McDonald has gotten me blocked.
- 1:32Speaker 1: In eight years.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 1:34Speaker 1: That's like a long time. The fact that this celebrity
- 1:37Speaker 1: has blocked every member of the Shameless team, it makes
- 1:40Speaker 1: it seem so personal. And I know what it feels
- 1:43Speaker 1: like because this has happened to us on several occasions.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And when you realize that your own personal account is
- 1:48Speaker 1: blocked and that the person's actually gone and sought you out,
- 1:52Speaker 1: looked at your personal page and then gone block, you
- 1:54Speaker 1: actually feel like a horrible person. You feel embarrassed. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: so embarrassing. What makes it more embarrassing though? This isn't
- 2:02Speaker 1: just some bog standard. There you go. So if you
- 2:04Speaker 1: wanted me to say that more, this isn't some bog
- 2:06Speaker 1: standard influencer. This is an A-list celebrity. Yeah, there's been
- 2:10Speaker 1: some confusion. A lot of people thought that they were
- 2:11Speaker 1: talking about an influencer, but no, this sounds like someone
- 2:14Speaker 1: who's walking the red carpet of the Golden Globes. This
- 2:17Speaker 1: is big time. And as you heard, Michelle feels like
- 2:20Speaker 1: her blocking was quite unwarranted because she felt like she
- 2:23Speaker 1: was caught in the crossfire between something that Zara and
- 2:26Speaker 1: Gil have said on the show. And I feel for
- 2:28Speaker 1: her because there's times where one of us will go
- 2:31Speaker 1: hard on an influencer and and I'll be a fan
- 2:34Speaker 1: of said influencer, and I'll end up blocked. And I'm like,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I didn't even fucking say anything about them. This happened recently.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I wasn't in one of the episodes, and you guys
- 2:41Speaker 1: talked about Josh from Maths Funny, and I'm a big
- 2:44Speaker 1: fan of his. I love him. I was listening to
- 2:46Speaker 1: the episode, and you were sort of giving it to him, and.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I was like, oh, my God, I love Josh.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And then he kindly, graciously messaged us. I was like, oh,
- 2:53Speaker 1: my God. And he spoke about us in such a
- 2:55Speaker 1: beautiful way on his podcast. Well, he didn't block us. No, no,
- 2:59Speaker 1: he didn't block us. He was so nice. Getting back
- 3:02Speaker 1: to Shameless, I really felt for Zara because she described
- 3:05Speaker 1: the moment that she realised that she was blocked. So
- 3:08Speaker 1: she admitted that she went to have a stalk of
- 3:10Speaker 1: the celebrity in question because they'd been popping up in
- 3:12Speaker 1: the media quite a bit. And when she searched for
- 3:15Speaker 1: their name, nothing came up. And initially she was like, oh,
- 3:19Speaker 1: maybe they've deleted their account or they've deactivated it. So
- 3:23Speaker 1: she hopped in the Shameless Instagram account and she couldn't
- 3:26Speaker 1: see it as well. And then she was like, fuck,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I'll check if Michelle can see them. Michelle also could
- 3:31Speaker 1: not see the account. So she's like, oh my God,
- 3:33Speaker 1: we're definitely blocked. They actually did a live check on air.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So their producer Gil was like, oh my God, can
- 3:40Speaker 1: I see this person? She also couldn't see it. And also,
- 3:43Speaker 1: The other employee, Div, could not see this celebrity as well.
- 3:47Speaker 1: So what was Div's involvement in the whole thing? Like
- 3:49Speaker 1: how did the celebrity know to block her too? They
- 3:52Speaker 1: must have literally jumped on Shameless's website and been like,
- 3:55Speaker 1: who is every single person that has some sort of
- 3:57Speaker 1: profile that works here? I'm getting rid of them. All
- 3:59Speaker 1: their producers, anyone who works for them is gone. I'm
- 4:01Speaker 1: guessing maybe some of those producers had something to do
- 4:05Speaker 1: with setting up different Shameless Instagram podcast accounts because when
- 4:09Speaker 1: you go to block a page, you are given the
- 4:11Speaker 1: option to block just the account or the account and
- 4:14Speaker 1: all other accounts associated with it. Yeah. So when we've
- 4:17Speaker 1: been blocked, sometimes I'm like, oh, maybe the influencer hasn't
- 4:20Speaker 1: actually gone over to look at my personal account and
- 4:22Speaker 1: I've just been caught in the crossfire because of the
- 4:25Speaker 1: same connection to Outspoken.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I see.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I've always been confused about that because I thought it
- 4:30Speaker 1: was like based on the IP that you set the
- 4:32Speaker 1: account up on or something. Like it's all very technical.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But regardless of what's happened here, it's clear that this
- 4:39Speaker 1: celebrity was incredibly unhappy with what was said about them.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I feel like recently, Shameless haven't been holding back, which
- 4:45Speaker 1: I really love. They've actually been sharing... more of their
- 4:47Speaker 1: opinions on topics and clearly that's ruffled some feathers. I
- 4:50Speaker 1: wonder if this will make them step back again because
- 4:53Speaker 1: they don't want to be blocked by anyone else. I
- 4:55Speaker 1: hope not because I feel like one of the reasons
- 4:57Speaker 1: they stopped talking about Aussie influencers was because they wanted
- 5:01Speaker 1: to people please and they didn't want to look like
- 5:03Speaker 1: they were bagging out people who were in the same
- 5:06Speaker 1: circle as them because obviously when their show became really popular,
- 5:09Speaker 1: they started getting invited to the same event. Well, they
- 5:12Speaker 1: also interviewed a lot of that crowd on their podcast
- 5:15Speaker 1: too and Coming from personal experience, it is really awkward
- 5:19Speaker 1: when you've spoken about someone on your podcast and then
- 5:21Speaker 1: you have them on as a guest. I mean, we
- 5:23Speaker 1: had Indy Clinton on a couple of years ago and
- 5:25Speaker 1: there was a bit of a joke back and forth
- 5:27Speaker 1: about what we'd said about her in the past. She
- 5:29Speaker 1: was a really good sport, but... It does make you
- 5:32Speaker 1: feel a bit weird. You also feel like a bit
- 5:34Speaker 1: of a loser because they know that you know so
- 5:36Speaker 1: much about their life. You know what I mean? You're
- 5:39Speaker 1: just like, oh yeah. The awkward thing for Michelle and
- 5:41Speaker 1: Zara is they probably never expected this celebrity to hear
- 5:45Speaker 1: what they said about them because there is still this
- 5:47Speaker 1: mindset that celebrities aren't real people. Well, I think what
- 5:51Speaker 1: makes it different now is TikTok because their TikTok is
- 5:54Speaker 1: so popular and I think a lot of celebrities don't
- 5:56Speaker 1: want to admit it, but their algorithm does feed them
- 5:59Speaker 1: up content of themselves. So maybe this is how the
- 6:01Speaker 1: celebrity came across it. Molly May has spoken a lot
- 6:04Speaker 1: on her doco and also on her YouTube about how
- 6:07Speaker 1: she sees all the content and all of the comments
- 6:09Speaker 1: and how she hates it when her YouTube videos get
- 6:12Speaker 1: clipped up on TikTok. And it's funny because when you search,
- 6:15Speaker 1: like I know when you search Sarah's day on TikTok
- 6:19Speaker 1: for a long time, it came up with our TikTok
- 6:21Speaker 1: clip about her. And I was like, this is so
- 6:23Speaker 1: awkward if she searched her own name.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Well, the thing is Michelle and Zara tried to keep
- 6:29Speaker 1: things quite vague on their podcast, but they did drop
- 6:32Speaker 1: a couple of breadcrumbs for us. So They confirmed that
- 6:35Speaker 1: the blocker is very famous and has millions and millions
- 6:39Speaker 1: of followers. They also confirmed that the celebrity is female.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And Zara said she was really surprised by the block
- 6:48Speaker 1: as she didn't think she spoke ill of the person
- 6:50Speaker 1: and she really likes them. Michelle clearly disagrees with that
- 6:53Speaker 1: because she was blaming Zara. That was Zara's fault. So
- 6:56Speaker 1: she must have said something, you know, a little bit
- 6:58Speaker 1: on the nose. Well, they seem to be rattled because
- 7:00Speaker 1: they're like, which other celebrities have blocked us that we
- 7:03Speaker 1: don't know about? Yeah. Look, we have been requested by
- 7:06Speaker 1: a lot of our listeners to put our detective hats
- 7:09Speaker 1: on and work this out. And you might be thinking, Sophie,
- 7:12Speaker 1: you have a young child. You don't have the time
- 7:15Speaker 1: to look into this. I do. I'm very petty. I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you should have known me when I was single slash
- 7:20Speaker 1: was dating because I could find anyone. And I have
- 7:23Speaker 1: spent a considerable amount of time going into this. So
- 7:26Speaker 1: I think I have the answer for everyone. Yeah, this
- 7:28Speaker 1: is the same person that was keeping a tally in
- 7:30Speaker 1: her notes section. of how many times her ex-boyfriend had Snapchatted.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So she was able to work out that he was
- 7:36Speaker 1: messaging different girls. Like this is next level stalking ability.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I remember you were like, oh, he's definitely Snapchatting someone.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I'm like, how do you know? That's a very 2015 thing. Look,
- 7:46Speaker 1: it was a long time ago now. Yeah, I know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: but it's still embarrassing. This seems fairly obvious to me,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but it might not be to those who have a
- 7:53Speaker 1: life or who haven't been blocked before. But I want
- 7:56Speaker 1: to point out that if someone blocks you, it means
- 7:58Speaker 1: you can no longer follow them and see their content.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So they don't show up in your following list anymore.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So the way I'm looking at this is it's very
- 8:08Speaker 1: telling if both Michelle and Zara, as well as their team,
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't follow a big celebrity anymore, particularly one that Michelle
- 8:15Speaker 1: is a standoff. In saying that though, Zara said that
- 8:18Speaker 1: she went and searched the celebrity to have a stalk.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That made me think that she didn't originally follow this person. No,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but the reason that Zara went to search for them
- 8:27Speaker 1: was because she's like, oh, I haven't seen them for
- 8:29Speaker 1: a while. Why isn't there stuff showing up for me? Now,
- 8:33Speaker 1: a lot of listeners have been guessing that this could
- 8:35Speaker 1: be Molly Mae. I can confirm Molly, who currently has
- 8:38Speaker 1: a newborn baby, does not have the time or is
- 8:42Speaker 1: she that petty to block every single member of the
- 8:45Speaker 1: Shameless Media team? Because Michelle is in fact still following her.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So it cannot be her. Can I throw a spanner
- 8:51Speaker 1: in the works though? Do we think it's the actual
- 8:52Speaker 1: celebrity that's done the blocking or their personal assistant? Because
- 8:56Speaker 1: if it's a personal assistant, they've really gone the extra yard. Look,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I like to think that it's the celebrity just for
- 9:01Speaker 1: my own entertainment. Now, other Shameless listeners were concerned that
- 9:05Speaker 1: it was Dua Lipa. So both girls are huge fans,
- 9:08Speaker 1: in particular Zara. Zara even met her in the wild
- 9:11Speaker 1: when the Shameless team were over in the UK and
- 9:14Speaker 1: approached her and said, I really love your work. So
- 9:16Speaker 1: people were like, oh my God, how awful would it
- 9:19Speaker 1: be if it was her? Can confirm they're still following her.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So it's not her. Taylor Swift was another guest. I mean,
- 9:26Speaker 1: do we really?
- 9:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Do we really think? that Taylor, who has admitted to
- 9:31Speaker 1: not even using Instagram and when the blocking occurred, it
- 9:34Speaker 1: was the week of her wedding. Do we think that
- 9:36Speaker 1: she's bothering to go on and block Shameless? I could
- 9:39Speaker 1: actually see that. I think she's very savvy online and
- 9:42Speaker 1: she always has these burner accounts that she follows fans
- 9:45Speaker 1: in and she seems to have a finger on the
- 9:47Speaker 1: pulse about what's being said about her online. Well, people
- 9:50Speaker 1: are convinced that she's made up a fake account. following
- 9:53Speaker 1: the wedding so she can keep up to date with
- 9:55Speaker 1: what everyone's saying about her and she's dropped clues? God,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I really hope not because people have been upset savage
- 10:00Speaker 1: about the wedding online, but I don't understand why people
- 10:02Speaker 1: would think that Taylor would block Michelle and Zara. I
- 10:05Speaker 1: feel like they've never said anything critical about her. No,
- 10:07Speaker 1: they have though, because I think they were kind of
- 10:10Speaker 1: critical of her wedding saying, oh, there's no way she's
- 10:12Speaker 1: going to get married in Madison Square Gardens. That's tacky. Anyway,
- 10:15Speaker 1: turns out it's not Taylor because they're still following her.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It's also not Blake Lively, Alex Earle or Hailey Bieber.
- 10:23Speaker 1: They were other celebrities that I thought it could potentially be.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Some others thought maybe, again, that it was a huge
- 10:29Speaker 1: Aussie influencer and they thought, oh, maybe it's Tammy Hembrough
- 10:32Speaker 1: or Indy Clinton. Tammy and Indy are still being followed
- 10:36Speaker 1: by the girls. One celebrity I really thought it could
- 10:38Speaker 1: be was Ariana Grande. They did a couple of episodes
- 10:41Speaker 1: about her eating disorder. But... Gil is still following her.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So Michelle and Zara aren't. So I was like, oh
- 10:48Speaker 1: my God, it must be her. No, but Gil is
- 10:50Speaker 1: following her still. What about Anne Hathaway? One of the
- 10:53Speaker 1: clips went viral where they were talking about her potential
- 10:57Speaker 1: cosmetic surgery. My top guess is actually Selena Gomez. So
- 11:01Speaker 1: the reason I think it could be Selena is it
- 11:04Speaker 1: makes sense that Michelle would be so upset about it
- 11:07Speaker 1: because Selena is Taylor Swift adjacent, being one of her
- 11:10Speaker 1: good friends. And neither Zara, Michelle or the Shameless team
- 11:15Speaker 1: are following her anymore. And I have quite a few
- 11:18Speaker 1: reasons why I think it's Selena. Firstly, Zara mentioned that
- 11:23Speaker 1: she went to look up the blocker because they were
- 11:25Speaker 1: recently in the zeitgeist. Now, last week, of course, was
- 11:29Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's wedding. Everyone was talking about it and the
- 11:31Speaker 1: car selfie that Selena Gomez uploaded ahead of the rehearsal dinner. Now,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I think that Zara heard about this selfie and was like,
- 11:39Speaker 1: why haven't I seen this? I need to look into
- 11:41Speaker 1: this for the podcast. And then looked her up and
- 11:44Speaker 1: was like, oh my God, why can't I see her?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Shameless also recently spoke about Selena's husband, Benny. So they
- 11:52Speaker 1: spoke about this new podcast that he released and how
- 11:55Speaker 1: it went viral for the wrong reason. And that is
- 11:58Speaker 1: because everyone was talking about the fact that he had
- 12:00Speaker 1: really dirty feet that you could see, like he was
- 12:03Speaker 1: sitting on a couch and doing this podcast, all people
- 12:06Speaker 1: could talk about were his dirty feet and also the
- 12:08Speaker 1: fact that he paused mid-podcast to lift up his leg
- 12:13Speaker 1: and his arse cheek to fart into the microphone. Let's
- 12:17Speaker 1: throw to what Shameless said about it. The bottom of
- 12:21Speaker 1: Benny's feet, he's not wearing shoes and they're sort of
- 12:24Speaker 1: on the couch and they're quite dirty. These are dirty feet. Dirty, yeah. Unanimous,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I would say.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Like I can almost, I look at it and I
- 12:35Speaker 2: can almost taste something. Oh, no, Michelle. Like they look
- 12:38Speaker 2: so dirty like I can't. I didn't even want to
- 12:40Speaker 2: talk about this.
- 12:41Speaker 1: The couch is quite nice too.
- 12:43Speaker 2: He also farted on mine.
- 12:44Speaker 1: There you go. Speak on that. Nothing to say.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I want the best for Selena Gomez. She deserves love.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Well, I think they all do and I wish Benny
- 12:55Speaker 1: Blanco the best, but the idea that you would lift
- 12:59Speaker 1: your leg.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Which he does.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And he's sort of ass cheek and say, catch this, Mike.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And he farts into the mic.
- 13:09Speaker 3: So like dirty feet, then farting on Mike.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It's just a little fart.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Belly.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I'm kidding.
- 13:16Speaker 1: By resharing this on our podcast, are we going to
- 13:19Speaker 1: get blocked by Selena Gomez as well? Oh, potentially. I mean,
- 13:24Speaker 1: you don't really like Selena Gomez, do you, Kate? I'm
- 13:26Speaker 1: adding more fuel to the fire because she's your husband's
- 13:28Speaker 1: celebrity crush. Look, it's not that I don't like her,
- 13:31Speaker 1: but I've never been a massive fan of her. And,
- 13:34Speaker 1: you know, when your husband says, oh my God, I
- 13:36Speaker 1: love Selena Gomez, it does put you off the person
- 13:39Speaker 1: a little bit. I actually didn't realize that Selena Gomez
- 13:41Speaker 1: had so many followers. I just looked her up on
- 13:43Speaker 1: Instagram and She's got 404 million followers. I mean, how
- 13:47Speaker 1: fucking offensive to be blocked by someone with that many followers. What,
- 13:51Speaker 1: over a fart? Well, that plays into it, doesn't it?
- 13:54Speaker 1: The only thing that's planting a seed of doubt in
- 13:57Speaker 1: my mind that this could be Selena Gomez is the
- 13:59Speaker 1: fact that Michelle blamed Zara for the block. Yet in
- 14:03Speaker 1: this segment, Michelle was having a bit of a laugh
- 14:06Speaker 1: about it too. However, she did say that she actually
- 14:09Speaker 1: didn't want to talk about the topic. So maybe there
- 14:11Speaker 1: was a bit of an argument back and forth and
- 14:12Speaker 1: Michelle was like, I don't want to be unfair to
- 14:14Speaker 1: Selena's husband. It's making more and more sense to me
- 14:17Speaker 1: that it is probably Selena because she's probably very protective
- 14:20Speaker 1: of her husband. I mean, she can probably take negative
- 14:24Speaker 1: feedback about herself. But when someone says something about the
- 14:27Speaker 1: person you love, it does really rile you up. It's
- 14:30Speaker 1: kind of like when Laura Byrne and Brit Hockley from
- 14:33Speaker 1: Life Uncut unfollowed us because we did a segment where
- 14:36Speaker 1: about Clementine Ford calling out Maddie J for a comedy sketch.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That he did.
- 14:40Speaker 1: To be fair, it's not like they actually blocked us.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Like I think an unfollow was a step down from
- 14:44Speaker 1: a full blocking. Yeah. And to be fair, if someone
- 14:47Speaker 1: was bagging out my husband, I'd probably unfollow them too. Yeah, exactly.
- 14:50Speaker 1: So you can see where Selina's coming from. That's the
- 14:52Speaker 1: difficulty now with this push to promote your podcast online
- 14:56Speaker 1: and share clips of you talking because That's how the
- 14:58Speaker 1: celebrities and influencers know that you've spoken about them. It's
- 15:02Speaker 1: not like Selena Gomez is tuning in to Shameless. Obviously,
- 15:05Speaker 1: one of the clips where they spoke about this went viral.
- 15:08Speaker 1: She's been censored or seen it and the rest is history. Well,
- 15:11Speaker 1: the other key suspect on my list is Lena Dunham.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So she is an American writer, actress, producer and feminist.
- 15:17Speaker 1: She's also another friend of Taylor who was at the
- 15:20Speaker 1: rehearsal dinner. So again... She was popping up in the media.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Everyone was talking about her. Now, neither Zara, Michelle or
- 15:27Speaker 1: the Shameless team are following her. And that is despite
- 15:30Speaker 1: them recently diving into her new memoir, Famesick. They also
- 15:34Speaker 1: did a bonus Shay Moore episode where they went further
- 15:38Speaker 1: into it and about her relationship with her ex, Jack Antonoff.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, did she date Jack Antonoff? I never
- 15:44Speaker 1: put two and two together. So he is, of course,
- 15:46Speaker 1: one of the very famous songwriters that writes alongside Taylor Swift.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Shameless have spoken about Lena Dunham for years though. Like
- 15:53Speaker 1: I actually think they did a scandal series on her. Well,
- 15:56Speaker 1: there is a clip of them recently being critical about
- 15:59Speaker 1: her not naming Lorde in her memoir. So for those
- 16:03Speaker 1: who aren't across it, it's speculated that Jack Antonoff had
- 16:06Speaker 1: an affair with Lorde when he was producing her album
- 16:10Speaker 1: and they didn't like that she didn't refer to her
- 16:12Speaker 1: by name. So I wonder if she's seen this and thought,
- 16:15Speaker 1: fuck you.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Block.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Who would you guys be more offended by? Lena Dunham
- 16:20Speaker 1: or Selena Gomez? Oh, definitely Selena. I mean, no shade
- 16:23Speaker 1: to Lena, but Selena, well that rhymes, is the biggest
- 16:26Speaker 1: celebrity out of the two. I would actually be the
- 16:28Speaker 1: most offended by Anne Hathaway. Because she has such iconic movies.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Like imagine sitting down and re-watching The Princess Diaries and
- 16:36Speaker 1: being like, this woman unfollowed me and she hates me. Well,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I have a couple of other celebrities who are on
- 16:41Speaker 1: my radar as well. So these are notable celebrities that
- 16:44Speaker 1: Shameless and the host don't follow, who they've recently spoken
- 16:47Speaker 1: about and who you think they should follow. So again,
- 16:51Speaker 1: as you said, Anne Hathaway, Olivia Wilde, Dakota Johnson, who
- 16:56Speaker 1: a lot of people say that Michelle looks like, Khloe Kardashian.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Carla Delevingne, Hilary Duff and Meghan Markle. Why would none
- 17:05Speaker 1: of them be following Meghan? This is someone who I
- 17:08Speaker 1: can see would do some blocking is Meghan Markle. I
- 17:10Speaker 1: haven't looked through who Michelle and Zara personally follow, but
- 17:14Speaker 1: do they follow a lot of big celebrities? They do.
- 17:17Speaker 1: They follow a lot of big name celebrities. You would
- 17:19Speaker 1: assume they would follow someone like Megan purely to keep
- 17:22Speaker 1: up to date for the show. The Shameless podcast only
- 17:25Speaker 1: follows eight other accounts and they are Michelle and Zara
- 17:29Speaker 1: and the podcast that they produce. But as you say,
- 17:32Speaker 1: for Zara and Michelle, they follow a large amount of celebrities.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And I just think it's odd. that they aren't following
- 17:39Speaker 1: some of these big name celebrities who they've recently spoken about.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I mean, unless they've got a burner account who they
- 17:44Speaker 1: follow everyone in, but that doesn't feel like them to me.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I don't think that they're getting around with a burner account. Well,
- 17:49Speaker 1: that's what I was thinking, but it's not like any
- 17:52Speaker 1: of the celebrities that you've referenced are particularly controversial ones.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Because I remember doing a big unfollow a couple of
- 17:58Speaker 1: years ago of influencers who I no longer align with,
- 18:02Speaker 1: who I don't really want to personally support. But in
- 18:05Speaker 1: saying that, I want to follow them all in a
- 18:07Speaker 1: burner account so I can keep across what they're doing
- 18:09Speaker 1: for this podcast. But it's not like any of these
- 18:12Speaker 1: celebrities that you've listed have done anything that controversial or
- 18:16Speaker 1: that would, you know, that their listeners would say, oh,
- 18:18Speaker 1: Michelle's following Hillary enough. Like, why would she be following her? Yeah, exactly. Now,
- 18:23Speaker 1: we're not quite as controlled as Shameless. We like to
- 18:25Speaker 1: drop the influences who have blocked us, partially because it
- 18:30Speaker 1: feels like therapy. Should we go through some of the
- 18:33Speaker 1: big names? I also think there's an element that it's
- 18:36Speaker 1: not as humiliating if you share it with everyone else. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: There's not some dirty secret like, oh, I actually can't
- 18:41Speaker 1: see that person's stuff because they blocked us. The one
- 18:44Speaker 1: that hurt the most, I think, was Olivia Rogers, I
- 18:46Speaker 1: have to say. That cut deep. That really did. I
- 18:49Speaker 1: love her. I followed Olivia.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I followed her for years and years. And I don't
- 18:54Speaker 1: think we've ever really spoken badly about her. And I
- 18:57Speaker 1: know why she unfollowed us. It was off the back
- 19:00Speaker 1: of us posting a reel when her ex-husband, Justin McKeon,
- 19:05Speaker 1: got into all that legal trouble and we used all
- 19:07Speaker 1: that vision from their wedding. The ex-partners or partners seem
- 19:10Speaker 1: to be the raw nerve and I totally get it.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Another one that didn't really surprise me was Lily Brown.
- 19:15Speaker 1: She blocked us after the whole smelly pyjama incident. Who
- 19:18Speaker 1: else is there? I've almost blacked it out. I can't remember. See,
- 19:22Speaker 1: because of these situations, I've got on the front foot.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And I ended up blocking some celebrities from my own
- 19:28Speaker 1: personal account so that I can still follow them in
- 19:31Speaker 1: my burner account for this podcast. Because if they were
- 19:34Speaker 1: to seek me out and block all my accounts, then
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'd never be able to view their content. So at
- 19:38Speaker 1: least I can do it in a different name, if
- 19:41Speaker 1: that makes sense. I remembered one now, Jade Tunchi. So
- 19:44Speaker 1: she blocked us back in the day because, I mean,
- 19:47Speaker 1: to be fair, we were calling her the betrayer. after
- 19:50Speaker 1: her engagement, having a bit of a laugh about that.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And now I love her and her mothering content. And
- 19:56Speaker 1: now I actually get the betrothed joke now that I actually,
- 19:58Speaker 1: because at the time I was like, oh, she's not
- 20:00Speaker 1: that funny. And then I'm like, no, she actually is
- 20:02Speaker 1: very funny. I think she unblocked us though because I
- 20:04Speaker 1: can see her content again. Yeah. I think we blocked
- 20:06Speaker 1: Sophie Keisha again to get on the front foot so
- 20:09Speaker 1: then she couldn't block us because I think after she
- 20:11Speaker 1: called us out on her Instagram story. Yeah. It's confusing
- 20:15Speaker 1: if we've blocked or they've blocked anyway. There is quite
- 20:18Speaker 1: a list. One person I'm shocked that hasn't blocked us
- 20:20Speaker 1: is Sarah's Day. Oh, again, I think I blocked her
- 20:23Speaker 1: on my personal account too. Yeah. Maybe that's what Shameless
- 20:25Speaker 1: need to do. They need to go and block every
- 20:28Speaker 1: big A-lister just so they can see their content still.
- 20:32Speaker 1: That's a bit of a tip from us. Block before
- 20:34Speaker 1: you get blocked.
- 20:36Speaker 4: I'm going to a breakup and today feels a little
- 20:39Speaker 4: bit harder than the other days.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Olivia Mathers has confirmed her breakup from boyfriend of three years,
- 20:46Speaker 1: Jack Jeffers. The news came as a shock to Olivia's
- 20:49Speaker 1: followers who expected the couple to soon be announcing their engagement. Kate,
- 20:54Speaker 1: can you get listeners up to speed with who the
- 20:56Speaker 1: couple is? Well, Olivia is a model and influencer with
- 20:59Speaker 1: almost a million followers across Instagram and TikTok. And I
- 21:02Speaker 1: was saying to you guys the other night, she is
- 21:06Speaker 1: top tier in terms of who I would like to
- 21:08Speaker 1: look like. She is absolutely stunning. Her and her sister
- 21:13Speaker 1: are incredible. And I cannot believe they're not twins. They've
- 21:17Speaker 1: got a couple of years between them, but they look identical. Now,
- 21:20Speaker 1: Isabel Mathur's Olivia sister is, I suppose, the bigger influencer
- 21:25Speaker 1: out of the two. She's got nearly 3 million followers
- 21:27Speaker 1: across her platforms. One of them, again, I don't know
- 21:30Speaker 1: which one it is, which is hypocritical of me, but
- 21:32Speaker 1: they created a TikTok being like, I just have to
- 21:34Speaker 1: point out there are two of us. Like a lot
- 21:36Speaker 1: of people think there's only one of us, but there's two. Yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: we had an argument last night about it because you
- 21:40Speaker 1: guys are like, oh no, they look different. And then
- 21:42Speaker 1: I showed you a video of them together and you
- 21:44Speaker 1: were like, oh, What? There's a slight difference. A slight difference. Yeah. Well,
- 21:48Speaker 1: in addition to modeling and influencing, Olivia also hosts a
- 21:52Speaker 1: podcast alongside Miss Universe Australia finalist Bianca Black. Now, as
- 21:57Speaker 1: for Jack, he's a fitness influencer and personal trainer who
- 22:01Speaker 1: also doubles in modeling. He was voted the Gold Coast's
- 22:04Speaker 1: best personal trainer by the Gold Coast Bulletin in 2022.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So quite a glamorous couple. Now, Olivia and Jack, they
- 22:12Speaker 1: have been together, as we mentioned, for three years. And
- 22:15Speaker 1: Jack has been a regular fixture in her content. But
- 22:19Speaker 1: now looking back at her content, knowing what we know,
- 22:22Speaker 1: there were a few signs that things weren't quite as
- 22:24Speaker 1: picture perfect as they may have seemed. So in February,
- 22:28Speaker 1: Olivia revealed to her TikTok followers that Jack actually ghosted
- 22:32Speaker 1: her 10 years ago. So she shared a reel of
- 22:35Speaker 1: her and Jack hugging in a pool with the label,
- 22:39Speaker 1: me and the boy that ghosted me 10 years ago.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And she captioned the post, universe said, just wait. It
- 22:45Speaker 1: still blows my mind that someone would ghost someone like
- 22:48Speaker 1: Olivia Mathers. Like it just goes to show if you're
- 22:51Speaker 1: in the dating trenches at the moment, And someone ghosts you.
- 22:55Speaker 1: It happens to absolutely everyone. Now, there was another red
- 22:59Speaker 1: flag in April. So Olivia shared behind the scenes footage
- 23:03Speaker 1: of her and Jack shooting a sponsored video together. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: Jack didn't seem happy with her at all. At one stage,
- 23:09Speaker 1: she went up and said, oh, I'm sorry for being bossy.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And then he joked that she was a witch. He's like, witch, witch,
- 23:15Speaker 1: she needs to be burnt. And I was like, God,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I would have cut that out of the clip. Well,
- 23:18Speaker 1: there was another reel that went viral in April. So
- 23:22Speaker 1: in the video that now has 2.4 million views, Jack
- 23:25Speaker 1: told Olivia off for trying to put her head out
- 23:28Speaker 1: of the sunroof while he was driving. So he essentially
- 23:31Speaker 1: told her off and said, you'll get a ticket for
- 23:33Speaker 1: doing this and that she shouldn't share the vision because
- 23:36Speaker 1: she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Now, Olivia captioned the video,
- 23:40Speaker 1: Watch my boyfriend gentle parent my drunk ass. This video
- 23:44Speaker 1: popped up organically for me back in April. And I
- 23:46Speaker 1: was like, oh my God, this is so awkward. Why
- 23:48Speaker 1: would you post it? Because he looked so genuinely pissed off.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And there were quite a few people gushing about, oh
- 23:53Speaker 1: my God, this is so cute. And obviously Olivia thought
- 23:57Speaker 1: it was like nice enough to post. But the top
- 23:59Speaker 1: comment on the video said, what are you guys seeing?
- 24:02Speaker 1: He looks so annoyed at her, which got 2.4 thousand likes.
- 24:05Speaker 1: In his defense, that would be annoying, though, if you're
- 24:07Speaker 1: picking someone up drunk and they're being obnoxious. You know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I've done that before with an ex who constantly wanted
- 24:14Speaker 1: me to pick him up whilst he was drunk. And,
- 24:16Speaker 1: you know, it does great on you. Have you guys
- 24:18Speaker 1: seen that TikTok that's gone viral where this girl shared vision?
- 24:22Speaker 1: of her boyfriend straight after he proposed. And he's like,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you can shut up now. I saw that. That was
- 24:28Speaker 1: so awkward. And she thought it was really funny. And
- 24:30Speaker 1: people are like, this is not the flex that you
- 24:32Speaker 1: think it is. There's another influencer, like a sort of
- 24:35Speaker 1: micro influencer on TikTok, who I just had to go
- 24:39Speaker 1: through her whole feed of content because This video popped
- 24:42Speaker 1: up where she was doing a taste test in the
- 24:44Speaker 1: car with him. And I'm thinking, just do it by
- 24:47Speaker 1: yourself because she's like, what do you think of that? Oh,
- 24:50Speaker 1: look at that. That looks so good. He's like, it's okay. Like,
- 24:54Speaker 1: stop doing that and just paying her out. But I'm like,
- 24:56Speaker 1: why would you upload that? The thing is, some of
- 24:58Speaker 1: these guys could actually genuinely be really nice behind the
- 25:01Speaker 1: scenes and they might just be so irritated. about being
- 25:05Speaker 1: included in their partner's content. But then again, they should
- 25:07Speaker 1: probably just be supportive of what their partner wants to do.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I sometimes think though, like if you're lacking that awareness
- 25:13Speaker 1: that you've actually watched it back, edited and uploaded it,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and you still don't see that your boyfriend's being a
- 25:18Speaker 1: dick to you, what is he like behind closed doors? Well,
- 25:22Speaker 1: getting back to Olivia, two weeks ago, she hinted that
- 25:25Speaker 1: something wasn't right. So she uploaded a video where she
- 25:29Speaker 1: mimed to the lyrics of All of your sweet talk,
- 25:31Speaker 1: baby this, baby that, but your lies ain't working now.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I mean, she took a page out of Tammy Hambro's book,
- 25:39Speaker 1: didn't she? Yeah. Yeah. Despite that clue, fans were pretty
- 25:43Speaker 1: shocked when Olivia confirmed the news in a TikTok last week.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So in the video, she opened up that she was
- 25:48Speaker 1: having a difficult day and she quite bravely spoke about
- 25:52Speaker 1: how she's trying to avoid falling into the same pattern
- 25:55Speaker 1: that she did with her last breakup when she started
- 25:57Speaker 1: binge eating and letting the wrong people get close to her.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Did you guys know she used to date Adam Sullivan?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Isn't he a lot older than her? So she's 29,
- 26:05Speaker 1: nearly 30. Oh. Which surprised me. Wow, I did not
- 26:08Speaker 1: see them being together at all. That is bizarre. Let's
- 26:11Speaker 1: start a little bit of what Olivia had to say
- 26:13Speaker 1: about the breakup.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I really feel like the hardest sort of emotion to
- 26:18Speaker 4: process in this whole thing is just the grief for
- 26:23Speaker 4: where you thought you would be. Like, obviously... When you're
- 26:27Speaker 4: in a relationship, you're looking ahead. So I'm thinking five
- 26:31Speaker 4: years ahead. I'm already imagining my family. I'm visualising a wedding.
- 26:39Speaker 4: It's kind of just like letting go of all these ideas. Like,
- 26:43Speaker 4: why do we put emotional value and connection on things
- 26:47Speaker 4: that haven't even happened?
- 26:51Speaker 1: I feel so much for Olivia because... In the last year,
- 26:55Speaker 1: she has made it really clear to her followers that
- 26:57Speaker 1: she's very ready to get married. So in October last year,
- 27:01Speaker 1: she and Jack did a paid partnership with Cullen Jewelry
- 27:05Speaker 1: where they looked at engagement rings. Now, her sister, Isabel,
- 27:08Speaker 1: got engaged in February to her boyfriend of 10 years,
- 27:11Speaker 1: which I'm sure has added to the pressure of all
- 27:14Speaker 1: of this. And Olivia has also been really vocal about
- 27:17Speaker 1: the fact that she's ready to have children. In January,
- 27:20Speaker 1: she said this on her TikTok.
- 27:22Speaker 4: I feel like, for me personally, I'm 30 this year.
- 27:27Speaker 4: I've met my forever person or the person I want
- 27:29Speaker 4: to marry. And with my experience around my friends, kids,
- 27:34Speaker 4: and everything that I have allowed myself to absorb, I
- 27:39Speaker 4: do somewhat feel ready, like emotionally ready at least. So
- 27:43Speaker 4: I just want to know, for the mums who felt
- 27:46Speaker 4: the same as me, how is it going?
- 27:48Speaker 1: Oh. So it seems like he definitely wasn't on the
- 27:53Speaker 1: same page because he has given some bizarre quotes to
- 27:57Speaker 1: the Daily Mail and it has made it seem like
- 28:00Speaker 1: this breakup is all down to the fact that he
- 28:02Speaker 1: isn't ready to start a family and he wants to
- 28:04Speaker 1: focus on his career. So he spoke to the Daily
- 28:08Speaker 1: Mail and confirmed that they split up six weeks ago
- 28:11Speaker 1: and I want to read out his full quotes to
- 28:14Speaker 1: give full effect. He said,' We' re good. We just grew apart.
- 28:18Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong. We're still hanging out. We're still chatting
- 28:21Speaker 1: a whole lot. It's just different goals. She's great. Everything's good.
- 28:25Speaker 1: She was ready for a family and all that, and
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm just ready for a career change, which doesn't quite fit.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I will be ready for a family one day, I guess.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Who knows?' He then went on to admit that the
- 28:36Speaker 1: door isn't closed yet, but time will tell. He said,'
- 28:40Speaker 1: I think we're both learning, that's for sure.' He also added,
- 28:44Speaker 1: my goal personally is trying to figure out what I
- 28:47Speaker 1: want to do as a career option. I built a
- 28:49Speaker 1: pretty successful personal training business and I just didn't want
- 28:53Speaker 1: to do that anymore. And through the process of all
- 28:56Speaker 1: of it, you know, it's tough trying to start again
- 28:58Speaker 1: at the age of 30. But my goal over the
- 29:01Speaker 1: next few months will just be to focus on that,
- 29:04Speaker 1: keep fit and healthy, keep my friends close to me,
- 29:06Speaker 1: work on my hobbies and interests, just be a genuine
- 29:09Speaker 1: human and just enjoy life but also work hard during
- 29:13Speaker 1: the week. So reading between the lines, it seems like
- 29:16Speaker 1: he is keeping Olivia on the back burner for when
- 29:19Speaker 1: he is ready to have a family. I couldn't believe
- 29:22Speaker 1: it that this guy said all of this to the
- 29:24Speaker 1: Daily Mail. Like what the fuck is he thinking? It's
- 29:28Speaker 1: like did you have a brain fade when they called you?
- 29:30Speaker 1: Like you're listing all of these things. It's almost like
- 29:33Speaker 1: you're trying to sell yourself. I wonder if he didn't
- 29:36Speaker 1: realize the difference between an on the record comment and
- 29:38Speaker 1: an off the record comment. Like it sounds like he
- 29:40Speaker 1: just chatted away and didn't realize that they could actually
- 29:44Speaker 1: take all these quotes and print them. I just feel
- 29:46Speaker 1: sorry for Olivia because it seems like he's pulled the
- 29:49Speaker 1: pin because he didn't want to start a family and
- 29:51Speaker 1: he was feeling a lot of pressure. Like this would
- 29:54Speaker 1: literally be a slap in the face that you go
- 29:56Speaker 1: and air this dirty laundry to the Daily Mail. Well,
- 29:59Speaker 1: surely that would be the nail in the coffin for her.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Surely she's seen that quote and is like, this guy
- 30:04Speaker 1: is clearly immature. He's just keeping me on the back
- 30:08Speaker 1: burner for when he decides he wants something. I mean,
- 30:11Speaker 1: she's too good for this. I would not actually be
- 30:13Speaker 1: surprised if they get back together though. I think It's
- 30:16Speaker 1: really difficult when you're about to turn 30. You think
- 30:19Speaker 1: your life's going in a certain direction. You know, you're
- 30:21Speaker 1: getting ready to be proposed to start a family and
- 30:24Speaker 1: then someone pulls the rug from under you. Yeah, but
- 30:26Speaker 1: it's quite clear that he doesn't want any of those
- 30:28Speaker 1: things just yet. So she may as well move on
- 30:30Speaker 1: and find someone who is ready. Oh, I totally agree.
- 30:34Speaker 1: But I think mentally it's hard to move on when
- 30:36Speaker 1: you've got to rebuild again. Walking this band.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Since I was one, baby.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Adam Hyde's Bonds campaign has created a storm online. Last week,
- 30:47Speaker 1: the Peaking Ducks singer took over from Robert Irwin as
- 30:50Speaker 1: the face of the iconic Aussie brand in its latest campaign. However,
- 30:54Speaker 1: the musician selection was not met with the same excitement. Instead,
- 30:58Speaker 1: there have been calls for Hyde to be removed from
- 31:00Speaker 1: the campaign. As soon as this campaign launched, the comment
- 31:04Speaker 1: section was so brutal. One person wrote, How do we
- 31:07Speaker 1: go from Robert Irwin to this clown? While another said,
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'm now changing brands. I feel really bad because some
- 31:13Speaker 1: of the comments were absolutely abhorrent, but one that did
- 31:16Speaker 1: make me laugh was someone saying that he looked like
- 31:18Speaker 1: the Paddle Pop line because there is quite a similarity there.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I actually think that Bonds were trying to rage bait
- 31:26Speaker 1: a bit with some of the photos and videos in
- 31:29Speaker 1: this campaign because I saw one photo that they shared
- 31:32Speaker 1: on Facebook and it was Adam lying across a set
- 31:36Speaker 1: of movie chairs in his jocks. And he had this
- 31:38Speaker 1: really embarrassed looking face and someone wrote, he looks like
- 31:42Speaker 1: he just jacked off in the movie theater and got
- 31:44Speaker 1: caught out. And this got like 10,000 likes. But I
- 31:46Speaker 1: think it's almost because people no longer see him as
- 31:50Speaker 1: a person now who's almost been made into this caricature
- 31:53Speaker 1: because of his association with Abby Chatfield. Oh, definitely. Now
- 31:57Speaker 1: off the back of all of that commentary, a petition
- 32:00Speaker 1: was then created calling for Adam to be removed from
- 32:03Speaker 1: the campaign. So the petition in question has almost 3,000
- 32:07Speaker 1: signatures and it was created by an anonymous account called
- 32:11Speaker 1: Concerned Aussie. Can you just imagine the person that did this?
- 32:14Speaker 1: I reckon they might vote for Pauline Hanson. I think
- 32:17Speaker 1: you could be correct there. Now, they claimed that Adam
- 32:20Speaker 1: shouldn't be the face of the latest campaign because of, quote,
- 32:22Speaker 1: deeply divisive and offensive comments he made. Now, this comment
- 32:26Speaker 1: in question relates to a now-deleted TikTok Adam and his
- 32:30Speaker 1: partner Abby Chatfield made back in September about the March
- 32:34Speaker 1: for Australia rallies. Now, for listeners not familiar with these rallies,
- 32:38Speaker 1: they were a large anti-immigration protest and very politically charged.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So thousands of Australians attended the rallies, which were organised
- 32:46Speaker 1: by people linked to far-right groups. Extremist figures also reportedly
- 32:51Speaker 1: attended some of the events and in a now deleted TikTok,
- 32:55Speaker 1: Adam labeled the protesters as fucking moronic pieces of shit.
- 32:58Speaker 1: He said to think that you're protesting against immigrants. That's
- 33:01Speaker 1: not what's going on here. This is flat out racism
- 33:04Speaker 1: and anyone that denies this is a fucking racist. He
- 33:07Speaker 1: then wanted to say, you're all bigots and pieces of shit.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You're a stain on this country and shouldn't represent Australia
- 33:12Speaker 1: at all. Unfortunately, this country is rooted and upheld within racism,
- 33:15Speaker 1: so it's very on brand. You're all scum and need
- 33:17Speaker 1: to do better. He also addressed a related incident that
- 33:20Speaker 1: occurred at a First Nations site called Camp Sovereignty in Melbourne.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Four Indigenous people were injured after the sacred Indigenous burial
- 33:28Speaker 1: site was allegedly attacked by neo-Nazis. Now, despite these comments
- 33:33Speaker 1: being made 10 months ago, People are viewing Bonds selecting
- 33:36Speaker 1: Adam as an ambassador as a political statement, and they're
- 33:40Speaker 1: essentially accusing Bonds of siding with Adam and intern Abby
- 33:44Speaker 1: Chatfield's political views. Look, it's not particularly surprising in this
- 33:48Speaker 1: social media climate that we're living in. I mean, it's
- 33:51Speaker 1: not the first time that we're seeing an advertising campaign
- 33:55Speaker 1: being turned into a culture war. We're at a stage
- 33:57Speaker 1: now where even neutral campaigns are getting analysed for these
- 34:00Speaker 1: hidden meanings, especially campaigns involving celebrities. Yeah, but I think
- 34:04Speaker 1: when you are selecting someone as an ambassador for your brand,
- 34:06Speaker 1: you are essentially saying that you align with that person's
- 34:09Speaker 1: views and beliefs. I think though timing plays a role
- 34:12Speaker 1: in how big this backlash has been because the campaign
- 34:16Speaker 1: came off the back of Karl Stefanovic being fired from
- 34:19Speaker 1: Channel 9 and this was after his podcast interview with
- 34:23Speaker 1: UK far-right activist Tony Robinson. So there are rumblings within
- 34:27Speaker 1: the right side of politics that people who support right
- 34:31Speaker 1: ideologies are being censored. Yeah, political commentator Lucy Zellick recently
- 34:36Speaker 1: claimed that there was a double standard when it came
- 34:38Speaker 1: to Adam Hyde and Karl Stefanovic. She said it was
- 34:41Speaker 1: sheer hypocrisy that someone like Adam Hyde still gets endorsement
- 34:44Speaker 1: deals following his comments regarding the March for Australia. She
- 34:48Speaker 1: went on to claim that the only reason Adam wasn't
- 34:51Speaker 1: cancelled like Carl Stefanobic was because he's pushing a left-leaning
- 34:55Speaker 1: agenda rather than a right one. The thing I don't
- 34:58Speaker 1: get is why people are acting like Bonds has made
- 35:00Speaker 1: this big shift aligning itself with Adam Hyde, because Bonds
- 35:04Speaker 1: has been a progressive brand for years. They've released a
- 35:07Speaker 1: gender-free collection. They introduced genderless online shopping browsing options. They
- 35:11Speaker 1: also have a pride collection.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 1: I mean, it's clear this was a strategic marketing decision
- 35:16Speaker 1: from Bonds. I mean, they knew what they were doing
- 35:18Speaker 1: when they picked Adam to be the face of this campaign.
- 35:21Speaker 1: They were feeding into the algorithm just like they did
- 35:23Speaker 1: with Robert Irwin last year, because who could forget the
- 35:26Speaker 1: photo that went viral of Robert Irwin holding a massive
- 35:29Speaker 1: snake while wearing Bonds jogs? I mean, the difficulty is
- 35:33Speaker 1: that everyone loves Robert Irwin. Like, He is like Australia's sun.
- 35:38Speaker 1: So it does seem then weird to swing to someone
- 35:40Speaker 1: who is quite divisive. But in saying that, he does
- 35:43Speaker 1: seem to align with the political views that Bonds does hold.
- 35:46Speaker 1: So it does make sense as well. I actually think
- 35:49Speaker 1: that this was a deliberate contrast in going from Robert
- 35:52Speaker 1: to Adam, because They want to expand their audience segments.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And by picking someone divisive like Adam Hyde, they knew
- 35:58Speaker 1: that they were going to create comments and shares, which
- 36:00Speaker 1: obviously drives engagement and that equals more views and media attention.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And the thing is, despite causing backlash, the reality is
- 36:07Speaker 1: most existing customers stick around with a brand. I actually disagree, Kate.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I think that this could impact Bonds' bottom line due
- 36:15Speaker 1: to the fact that they have been known for years
- 36:17Speaker 1: as an all-Australian brand. If you look back at some
- 36:20Speaker 1: of their past ambassadors, It's been the likes of Pat Rafter,
- 36:24Speaker 1: Michael Clark, Nick Kyrgios. They've been very sport focused. So
- 36:29Speaker 1: I think that a lot of people who have worn
- 36:31Speaker 1: bonds over the years don't necessarily fit into a left
- 36:36Speaker 1: wing category. There are a lot of people who are
- 36:39Speaker 1: part of the right that do shop at bonds and
- 36:41Speaker 1: a lot of them are angry and have been saying, well,
- 36:44Speaker 1: we're going to start buying tradie underwear. We'll ultimately have
- 36:47Speaker 1: to agree to disagree because I personally think this is
- 36:50Speaker 1: a successful campaign for bonds. I think a lot of
- 36:53Speaker 1: this online outrage really doesn't equate to the real world.
- 36:56Speaker 1: And I think what Bonds has succeeded in is people
- 36:59Speaker 1: are talking about their campaign. So they've increased brand awareness.
- 37:03Speaker 1: And in doing so, they only have to enjoy short-lived controversy.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I mean, people move on so quickly. It's been proven
- 37:08Speaker 1: that these types of controversies are unlikely to actually change
- 37:11Speaker 1: people's buying behaviors. And I think ultimately this campaign will
- 37:15Speaker 1: simply be remembered as one that created arguments online. Now,
- 37:19Speaker 1: this is Amy coming to you from the future. Since
- 37:22Speaker 1: we stopped recording, Adam Hyde released a statement on the
- 37:26Speaker 1: bonds campaign. He said, for some time now, I've been
- 37:29Speaker 1: targeted by a deliberate weaponization and misrepresentation of something I
- 37:34Speaker 1: said almost a year ago that needs to be clarified.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I'm addressing this now because since coming home from tour,
- 37:41Speaker 1: people I love have been threatened, harassed and verbally abused
- 37:44Speaker 1: in public and it's now become a safety issue not
- 37:47Speaker 1: only for me but for those around me. I've seen
- 37:50Speaker 1: people claiming that I wish death upon anyone who disagrees
- 37:54Speaker 1: with me, that I have told everyday Australians to kill
- 37:57Speaker 1: themselves or have even threatened to harm people. These are
- 38:00Speaker 1: defamatory and entirely untrue claims against me. The video that
- 38:04Speaker 1: has been circulating has been edited, recontextualised and is missing
- 38:09Speaker 1: the pivotal context of who I'm actually addressing. In reality,
- 38:13Speaker 1: the context of my quote was in direct response to
- 38:15Speaker 1: a group of people alleged to be neo-Nazis for the
- 38:19Speaker 1: unprovoked attack on the Indigenous protest site Camp Sovereignty on
- 38:23Speaker 1: August 31st, 2025. a group that was officially added to
- 38:27Speaker 1: the prescribed hate group list by the Australian government. This
- 38:30Speaker 1: attack included approximately 50 men allegedly storming up a hill
- 38:35Speaker 1: targeting women, throwing them to the ground and striking them
- 38:38Speaker 1: in the head, resulting in four people requiring medical attention
- 38:42Speaker 1: with two people taken to hospital. These people were also
- 38:46Speaker 1: allegedly chanting white man's land and white power along with
- 38:50Speaker 1: misogynistic slurs. If you want to know more about what
- 38:53Speaker 1: I was reacting to, here's a link. This wasn't directed
- 38:57Speaker 1: to everyday Australians, nor was this addressed to everybody at
- 39:00Speaker 1: the March for Australia, and certainly not aimed at people
- 39:04Speaker 1: who simply disagree with me. The wording I chose was
- 39:07Speaker 1: far from eloquent, and reacting in such a manner is
- 39:10Speaker 1: not conducive to anything positive. I take full accountability for that. However,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I believe this is critical context as to what and
- 39:17Speaker 1: who the comments were in regards to. He then goes
- 39:20Speaker 1: on to quote what he actually said in the video,
- 39:23Speaker 1: which is what we said in the podcast. The statement
- 39:25Speaker 1: went on to say, if you're mad at me for
- 39:27Speaker 1: being viscerally frustrated, heartbroken and disappointed that in Australia in 2025,
- 39:33Speaker 1: there were groups of people reported to be neo-Nazis storming peaceful,
- 39:37Speaker 1: innocent protest camps and severely harming innocent Australians for no reason,
- 39:41Speaker 1: then by all means be mad at me. I love
- 39:44Speaker 1: Australia and I'm all for love, but I do hate neo-Nazis.
- 39:49Speaker 1: If you made it this far, thank you for reading.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Love you. Well, that is where we're going to leave
