Speaker 1: Welcome to The Bad Hire.
• 0:12
Speaker 2: Thank you for having me, Thank you for having.
• 0:13
Speaker 1: Us, Emma. You're both part of our production team marketing team,
• 0:18
Speaker 1: So glad to have you. That's kind of cool.
• 0:20
Speaker 2: Yep. Been the company for three years now and straight
• 0:23
Speaker 2: out of college and have never looked back since, and
• 0:26
Speaker 2: I loved every moment of it. But The Bad Hire
• 0:28
Speaker 2: is kind of a newer thing for us, and so
• 0:31
Speaker 2: it's nice to be on the podcast and be able
• 0:33
  Speaker 2: to produce it.
• 0:34
Speaker 1: And well, I hope we get some good time with
• 0:36
Speaker 1: you guys. I hope we get good stories.
• 0:37
Speaker 2: We will for sure.
• 0:39
Speaker 1: We run that ten thousand dollars contest and people submit it,
• 0:41
Speaker 1: and I hope that we get some really cool stories
• 0:44
Speaker 1: and we get to read some fun stories. I know
• 0:45
Speaker 1: you guys will enjoy reading I think them as they
• 0:48
Speaker 1: get submitted and recommending which ones to put on the show.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: So I think that's really cool. So here here's one
• 0:55
Speaker 1: from reddit. Okay, okay, you ready.
• 0:58
Speaker 2: We're going straight into the reddit.
• 1:00
Speaker 1: Read it on all right, So you'll have to tell
• 1:02
Speaker 1: me if you think these are good stories. You know,
• 1:05
Speaker 1: bad stories a lot of them read.
• 1:08
Speaker 2: So that's why we're here, right.
• 1:10
Speaker 1: We we we hired someone who is not the person.
• 1:15
Speaker 1: We interviewed my CEO and my CEO and his influential
• 1:21
Speaker 1: friends researched and was able to confirm this was a
• 1:25
Speaker 1: different person. Before the end of his first day, he
• 1:29
  Speaker 1: fired him.
• 1:30
Speaker 2: Oh God, fired the first.
• 1:33
Speaker 1: How does that happen? I don't know, Like, we hired
• 1:36
Speaker 1: someone who is not the person.
• 1:39
Speaker 3: It wasn't the same, like the same person they thought
• 1:43
Speaker 3: they were bringing in, Like it was completely different humans.
• 1:46
Speaker 2: Like they interviewed. I guess went through the whole process
• 1:48
Speaker 2: and came to the job and some other dude. Oh,
• 1:51
Speaker 2: he was like, here's my filler.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, he paid somebody to go to the interview for him.
• 1:56
Speaker 2: Can I get one of those?
• 1:58
Speaker 1: Dude, do my interview? You're good at it? Then I'm
• 2:01
Speaker 1: going to show up. They won't know a thing.
• 2:03
Speaker 2: I mean, that's like sales. You like, you have your
• 2:05
Speaker 2: SDR and then you know the person who's actually good
• 2:07
Speaker 2: demo apletely different person.
• 2:11
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true, all right, here's one. I hired a
• 2:16
Speaker 1: tech one for it. Guys spend his time walking around
• 2:22
Speaker 1: and talking about how poorly he was paid and how
• 2:25
Speaker 1: he did actually and how he didn't be there. Like
• 2:30
Speaker 1: two weeks into the job. I let him go a
• 2:32
Speaker 1: month in Probably shouldn't talk about how poorly you're paid
• 2:35
Speaker 1: after right after acceptance?
• 2:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, why would you accept it to begin with?
• 2:39
Speaker 3: Complaining does not help?
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Right lasted a month. I think interviews are actually really
• 2:45
Speaker 1: hard to do since they seldom correlate the how they'll
• 2:48
Speaker 1: actually function at work. Yeah, it's that is. Two of
• 2:54
Speaker 1: them were laid off. I guess this person is talking
• 2:59
Speaker 1: about the hired two or more. Two of them were
• 3:02
Speaker 1: laid off and one of them I'm actually putting on
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: a p i P. You know what a p P
• 3:08
Speaker 1: Personal improvement plan. Oh yeah, it means you're in trouble.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: I put you on that to tell you what you
• 3:16
Speaker 1: got to do to not be in trouble because your
• 3:17
Speaker 1: performance isn't got a performance improvement plan Personal improvement plan,
• 3:22
Speaker 1: that's what PIP stands for. People can interview very well
• 3:25
Speaker 1: but end up being a fraud. I wish I knew
• 3:28
Speaker 1: better questions to ask to weed out someone who actually
• 3:30
Speaker 1: knows what they're doing versus not knowing.
• 3:34
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, I see like on the job.
• 3:36
Speaker 3: Or just in general.
• 3:37
  Speaker 1: Maybe both.
• 3:39
  Speaker 2: That's great.
• 3:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just glad I don't know can you imagine
• 3:49
  Speaker 4: putting someone on a P I P week two.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: I mean we hired we fired somebody week two. I remember,
• 3:56
Speaker 2: not that long ago. I was a part of that. Actually, yeah,
• 4:02
Speaker 2: that was pretty brutal.
• 4:04
Speaker 3: Just open up the interview. Commit any Crowns lately.
• 4:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, this came in a dream employee after probation,
• 4:18
Speaker 1: literally the day after probation, they're talking about their employment probation.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: That's like the ninety days of probation you have when
• 4:24
Speaker 1: you first get there. I guess, follow the rules in
• 4:26
Speaker 1: probation and you're going okay. So after probation, literally the
• 4:29
Speaker 1: day after probation, they became a nightmare, argued about their
• 4:34
Speaker 1: starting pay, stated they don't get paid to do most
• 4:39
Speaker 1: of the stuff we're asking them. They lasted a year
• 4:42
Speaker 1: or two because they repeatedly argued with me, refused a lot,
• 4:48
Speaker 1: tried to get his teammates riled up.
• 4:50
Speaker 2: It was a lesson, though it sounds like a toxic relationship.
• 4:55
Speaker 1: The lesson was you would two years, yeah, like ninety
• 4:59
Speaker 1: days for a year if they were Yeah, this is
• 5:03
Speaker 1: apparently the person who hires them, and they're like they
• 5:06
Speaker 1: know on the ninety first day that it's a nightmare
• 5:10
Speaker 1: and two years later there, Yeah, that's all he was.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: Was that just a bad hire from the beginning. I
• 5:23
Speaker 1: hired a person who had the qualifications. I was looking
• 5:26
Speaker 1: for the experience. I needed the certifications that were the
• 5:32
Speaker 1: bonus on the job listing. And had an amazing three
• 5:37
Speaker 1: interviews and got along with everyone. It seemed so great.
• 5:42
Speaker 1: I was so excited. First day arrives, he's fifteen minutes late, No, biggie, Yeah,
• 5:50
Speaker 1: he got caught by the train right by our office.
• 5:53
Speaker 1: He had no way of knowing this train schedule, Yeah,
• 5:56
Speaker 1: couldn't have checked in advance going on the internet, or
• 6:02
Speaker 1: he had no way of knowing the train schedule.
• 6:04
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 6:05
Speaker 1: But then he came in and was ranting about the
• 6:08
Speaker 1: incompetent train conductors not knowing how to navigate a switch,
• 6:13
Speaker 1: saying how he could do it better. And I asked
• 6:15
Speaker 1: him if he was a train conductor in a previous life,
• 6:18
Speaker 1: because it was nowhere in his resume. That was our
• 6:22
Speaker 1: first clue. Then, while he was supposed to be watching
• 6:28
Speaker 1: those stupid onboarding videos, he was walking around telling people
• 6:35
Speaker 1: about all the changes he was going to make to
• 6:38
Speaker 1: make to make things so much better like his old company,
• 6:42
Speaker 1: and Then he proceeded to talk about how great their systems,
• 6:45
Speaker 1: et cetera were compared to ours. Second clue. Next, he
• 6:50
Speaker 1: went into the chemical engineering department and told one of
• 6:52
Speaker 1: the engineers that he was there to shake things up,
• 6:55
Speaker 1: and started telling him how to do things differently. Sir,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: you're here to be a chemical analyst. Sit down.
• 7:03
Speaker 3: What position is this guy?
• 7:07
Speaker 1: Apparently the secret CEO. Then he decided his lunch should
• 7:11
Speaker 1: be over an hour because he's new and needs the
• 7:14
Speaker 1: extra time decompress his brain and relax. Oh, he decided
• 7:18
Speaker 1: his lunch would be over an hour because he needed
• 7:20
Speaker 1: the extrame. He came back and went to the quality
• 7:22
Speaker 1: department and told them they shouldn't be allowed to quality
• 7:25
Speaker 1: control chemicals. I walked him out. After that, he lasted six.
• 7:31
Speaker 2: Hours six hours at a job.
• 7:35
Speaker 1: How like four of those were working and two of
• 7:39
Speaker 1: those were his decompression lunch.
• 7:42
Speaker 2: How do you take a decompression lunch on the first day?
• 7:47
Speaker 3: I guess when you think you know everything about everything.
• 7:49
Speaker 1: Seriously, you're you're you're about to fix this company.
• 7:52
  Speaker 3: It's exhausting.
• 7:56
Speaker 1: It is exhausting knowing everything. Yeah, that was that was funny.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: I hired someone remote, I hired someone remote who would
• 8:09
Speaker 1: take team calls shirtless, laying in bed, laying in bed,
• 8:18
Speaker 1: phone down on the counter, while he was making lunch.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: So he was all this together. He would make team
• 8:27
Speaker 1: calls shirtless, He would make team calls laying in bed.
• 8:30
Speaker 1: He would do team calls while he put the phone
• 8:33
Speaker 1: down on the counter and made his lunch, et cetera.
• 8:37
Speaker 3: Sounds like he thought he was on faceto as.
• 8:41
Speaker 1: No idea how to present himself. He got on a
• 8:45
Speaker 1: he got on a client call while laying in bed
• 8:49
Speaker 1: and Nuzzley and his cat what ultimately what ultimately was
• 8:56
Speaker 1: the last straw because the cat, uh, the cat wasn't one?
• 9:00
Speaker 1: What oldimate was the last row? Was? He was doing
• 9:04
Speaker 1: bong hits, My god.
• 9:07
Speaker 2: On the call a client call, like even, I mean,
• 9:11
Speaker 2: it doesn't really matter on the call. What job is this?
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 9:19
  Speaker 2: This?
• 9:21
Speaker 1: You know. We once had a we had a programmer
• 9:26
Speaker 1: one time who was a remote worker and uh and
• 9:32
Speaker 1: I used the word work, not remote, uh liberally and
• 9:37
Speaker 1: he uh and he forgot his camera wasn't on and
• 9:42
Speaker 1: he was laying in bed. He looked like he hadn't
• 9:45
Speaker 1: gotten up in four days.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: I remember that, Yeah, yeah, well, times like they need
• 9:51
Speaker 2: to update their remote work agreement.
• 9:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like you do you really have to put
• 9:58
Speaker 1: in writing you must wear sure? Apparently don't your cat.
• 10:02
Speaker 2: Apparently we do have a remote work like policy though
• 10:06
Speaker 2: for address Like, yeah, so, I mean maybe they need one. Well,
• 10:12
Speaker 2: I mean I think you need to tell them.
• 10:14
Speaker 1: What gets me about this one is he goes he
• 10:17
Speaker 1: got on a client hall while laying in bed and
• 10:19
Speaker 1: nuzzliness cat, right, but then says what the ultimate last
• 10:25
Speaker 1: straw was? Like that?
• 10:27
Speaker 2: How many chances did they give him? How many straw
• 10:30
  Speaker 2: how many straws?
• 10:34
  Speaker 1: I don't know. Here's another one from Reddit. Had a
• 10:39
Speaker 1: guy interview well and seemed to know his stuff. He did,
• 10:44
Speaker 1: but his confidence was just the tip of a larger
• 10:47
Speaker 1: iceberg of arrogance and swagger. Any skills that he had
• 10:52
Speaker 1: were overshadowed by his gratify his grading personality. He referred
• 10:57
Speaker 1: to himself in the third person god like he was like,
• 11:01
Speaker 1: he was quoting a greater person red flag. What if
• 11:06
Speaker 1: you did that in the interview, Yeah, Robert's a great hire.
• 11:09
  Speaker 1: You should hire.
• 11:10
Speaker 2: Robert said that Emma's a great hire.
• 11:15
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. Emma's a great higher high she's a
• 11:19
  Speaker 1: she was, she's she's a farmer's daughter. A lot I
• 11:28
Speaker 1: get to see you look a look at me. Emma's
• 11:30
Speaker 1: great high You should hire she's the daughter of achian farmer.
• 11:34
Speaker 1: You know, you know I love that. As this Robert
• 11:38
Speaker 1: always says, opinions are like butts. Now he's this is
• 11:42
Speaker 1: him quoting him. As this, Robert always says opinions are
• 11:48
Speaker 1: like butts. Everyone has one, followed by a Harvard style laughter,
• 11:53
Speaker 1: can you do that for me?
• 11:55
  Speaker 3: But I don't believe.
• 12:00
Speaker 2: She doesn't know what?
• 12:03
Speaker 1: And a smughead wobble. He was too casual to upper management.
• 12:08
Speaker 1: He'd invite himself to private meetings, acting like some old
• 12:11
Speaker 1: hat experienced executive. What is an old hat.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: Experiences somebody who's been at the company for a long time, Okay.
• 12:21
Speaker 1: An old hat an old hat. Until he was asked
• 12:25
Speaker 1: to leave, we got a lot of complaints about his behavior.
• 12:28
Speaker 1: It was like he assumed being hired meant he had
• 12:31
Speaker 1: to play the part of some higher up manager, only
• 12:34
Speaker 1: he was several degrees off of reading the room as
• 12:37
  Speaker 1: it were.
• 12:38
Speaker 2: Sounds like he was just socially awkward a little bit.
• 12:40
Speaker 1: And treated his peers like subordinates. He also started projects
• 12:43
Speaker 1: nobody asked him to do and wrote in coworkers, this
• 12:46
Speaker 1: sounds like a rant. This is a stream of conscience.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: Complain about this guy in your complaints, Yeah.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: Complain about your coworker.
• 12:59
Speaker 2: And wrote co workers complained players Yeah, and wrote.
• 13:05
Speaker 1: In coworkers and random project myners into these projects until
• 13:07
Speaker 1: he was told to stop. Good nights. This person keeps going.
• 13:13
Speaker 1: We worked on his behavior, but this person is rant theme.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: This is clearly this was therapy. Yeah, just passively, Jerry,
• 13:25
Speaker 1: I need you to send out some emails on behalf
• 13:26
Speaker 1: of the team. But oh, get our boss's approval. I
• 13:30
Speaker 1: guess because he do air quotes.
• 13:34
Speaker 2: So he made other people do his storty work for him.
• 13:36
  Speaker 2: Pretty much.
• 13:36
Speaker 3: Definitely wrote this down in his notes app waiting for
• 13:39
Speaker 3: the day he got to use it.
• 13:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, this you tell him whoever wrote this? Yeah, you
• 13:43
Speaker 1: just kept going back to different things, you know, and
• 13:46
  Speaker 1: I don't know. I hope you don't do that.
• 13:48
  Speaker 2: Do that work?
• 13:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope you don't do that, or I hope
• 13:50
Speaker 1: you don't have a running notes pad run it? Do
• 13:52
Speaker 1: you have that? You have like a running complaint where
• 13:55
Speaker 1: you just go there and write bad stuff.
• 13:57
Speaker 2: Never even thought of that. Maybe I should well mentioned it, Like,
• 14:03
Speaker 2: I just think about how I use my Yeah you
• 14:06
Speaker 2: to write down right now your thoughts?
• 14:08
Speaker 3: That sounds like what that is?
• 14:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, this sounds like a collection of random thoughts.
• 14:12
Speaker 3: Yeah that they just keep adding.
• 14:14
Speaker 2: Yeah a little bit.
• 14:16
Speaker 1: Uh most likely not the ten thousand award winner. I
• 14:21
Speaker 1: will tell you, just very love to find out.
• 14:24
Speaker 2: Very good writing style though Yeah, they need conscious stream.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: Of conscious write any thought forget about cent in structure
• 14:35
Speaker 1: this if we need, we need to turn this one
• 14:38
Speaker 1: into a video. I hired someone remote who took his
• 14:42
Speaker 1: team called shirtless because that would be hilarious to see
• 14:47
Speaker 1: the video of some shirtless dude on a zoom call.
• 14:51
Speaker 2: I wish we had, yes a great commercial and like
• 14:57
Speaker 2: would be your worst bad hire videos people who just
• 15:00
Speaker 2: did horrible at their job too, like on on footage.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: Yeah all right, laid in bed, phone down on the
• 15:12
Speaker 1: counter while he was making his lunch. Absolutely idea. He
• 15:14
Speaker 1: got on a client call. This is the scene I
• 15:17
Speaker 1: want to shoot. Okay, right, he got on a client
• 15:20
Speaker 1: call and in bed, nuzzling in his cat, right, I
• 15:24
Speaker 1: think that would be good.
• 15:25
Speaker 3: And then it just comes up.
• 15:26
Speaker 2: I just want to know how he was nuzzling his
• 15:28
Speaker 2: cat in bed though, like was it on top of him?
• 15:32
Speaker 2: Was it like because you have your computer, it's not
• 15:34
Speaker 2: that big of a screen like you're it had to
• 15:37
Speaker 2: be like on the like right.
• 15:38
Speaker 1: Here, you mentioned it while ago you got to tell
• 15:40
  Speaker 1: your story.
• 15:41
Speaker 2: Oh you want me to tell my story?
• 15:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, the way you were talking about it while okay.
• 15:45
Speaker 2: My bad high I think this isn't even my story.
• 15:48
Speaker 2: It's the company story. But it was a bad hire.
• 15:54
Speaker 1: I was a part of the hiring team. Yeah, super, you.
• 15:57
Speaker 3: Did this to her.
• 15:58
Speaker 2: Actually, well the same person who hired you, the same
• 16:00
Speaker 2: person who hired this guy. So this is this is
• 16:04
  Speaker 2: somebody else's.
• 16:06
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, no, I know what you mean. Yeah.
• 16:09
Speaker 1: So because it was Yeah, because then started in tech.
• 16:12
Speaker 1: So do you then we've then we've wroped her into
• 16:15
  Speaker 1: marketing and production?
• 16:16
Speaker 2: So yeah yeah, so do you do you want me
• 16:19
Speaker 2: to tell the story?
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 16:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay. So there is this I guy who started
• 16:24
Speaker 2: and I want to say it was his first week.
• 16:26
Speaker 2: I want to yeah, it was his first week, and
• 16:29
Speaker 2: like immediately he tried talking to like all the women
• 16:32
Speaker 2: in the office, which was like I mean, obviously just
• 16:35
  Speaker 2: a lonely guy.
• 16:36
Speaker 1: Forty five, fifteen years old. Yeah, I was.
• 16:41
Speaker 2: About would refer to his wife but then remind you
• 16:44
Speaker 2: later on it was his ex wife, but would call
• 16:46
Speaker 2: her his wife still and would try and talk to
• 16:52
Speaker 2: people in Spanish and would try and say things that
• 16:55
Speaker 2: you thought, oh, they don't know they don't speak Spanish
• 16:58
Speaker 2: because his wife spoke Spanish church, right, And so anyways,
• 17:02
Speaker 2: he was it, and you heard stories throughout the office,
• 17:07
Speaker 2: so like people complaining about him, just him being kind
• 17:09
Speaker 2: of creepy, and he would like come over and I
• 17:12
Speaker 2: mean talk to me a lot, but talk to like
• 17:14
Speaker 2: our side of the office and be like, yeah, I'm
• 17:16
Speaker 2: on on hinge, I'm on all these dating apps. And
• 17:19
Speaker 2: then I think he even mentioned er, like just all
• 17:23
Speaker 2: these crazy things, and you're just like, okay, well you're
• 17:26
Speaker 2: just telling me these things I don't need to know
• 17:28
Speaker 2: about you, right, And so immediately that always made me uncomfortable.
• 17:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, handle on it.
• 17:35
Speaker 2: Yeah literally, yeah. It was like you know the guys
• 17:38
Speaker 2: who have their like Instagram handle on their car.
• 17:40
  Speaker 1: It was.
• 17:40
Speaker 2: Yeah. But anyways, so one day I asked for helping
• 17:45
Speaker 2: my computer, as one does with it. You need your help,
• 17:48
Speaker 2: you know whatever. So I teams him and say, hey,
• 17:51
Speaker 2: come help me, like I, you know, need help with
• 17:53
Speaker 2: my computer. And so he says, okay, I'll come right over.
• 17:57
Speaker 2: So I'm sitting, I'm, you know, working at my desk
• 17:59
Speaker 2: hyping everything, and he comes up behind me and next
• 18:03
Speaker 2: thing I know, his like nose is literally on my
• 18:06
Speaker 2: neck and he's sniffing the side of my neck all
• 18:08
Speaker 2: the way up to like my ear, and I immediately
• 18:11
Speaker 2: was just like okay, and he in my ear goes
• 18:16
Speaker 2: you smells so good like that right, and I internally died.
• 18:20
Speaker 2: I'm like, I just need help with my computer. And
• 18:22
Speaker 2: so I immediately like pushed back my chair. I'm like,
• 18:25
Speaker 2: no way, that just happened. And so I just get
• 18:28
Speaker 2: up and I leave, and I like, go ask somebody.
• 18:30
Speaker 2: I'm like, what am I supposed to tell somebody this?
• 18:32
Speaker 2: Like do you tell somebody never happened, nothing had ever happened,
• 18:37
Speaker 2: like exactly, And I didn't know that you go tell
• 18:42
Speaker 2: somebody these things because I'm like, this is the first
• 18:44
Speaker 2: time it's ever happened to me. I'm like, you know,
• 18:46
Speaker 2: young in my yeah, and I only worked for women
• 18:50
Speaker 2: like companies before in his first week hair and very ready,
• 18:55
Speaker 2: yeah exactly, And so I start, I go and I hide,
• 18:59
Speaker 2: and I asked somebody, what do I say? Who do
• 19:01
  Speaker 2: I tell?
• 19:02
Speaker 1: And what you told?
• 19:03
Speaker 2: Then he got fired that luckily No. I was like,
• 19:08
Speaker 2: do you want to like put him on a probation
• 19:10
Speaker 2: and they're like, no, we don't mess with bad hires.
• 19:14
Speaker 2: But it was funny though, because he was looking for
• 19:17
Speaker 2: me after. I don't know if you know this, I
• 19:19
Speaker 2: tried hiding and he was searching for me in the office,
• 19:21
Speaker 2: asking people where I had gone, right, and so want
• 19:24
  Speaker 2: to apologize.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: Maybe he knew. And then he was, do you have
• 19:30
Speaker 1: any like if there anybodny helpers at the farm, at
• 19:34
Speaker 1: the chicken farm that would your dad have a really
• 19:38
Speaker 1: good bad hour story?
• 19:41
Speaker 3: Steal from us once, steal tools from us?
• 19:44
  Speaker 1: Tools?
• 19:46
Speaker 2: Your dad kind of tools my.
• 19:48
  Speaker 3: Dad, I think.
• 19:49
  Speaker 1: So. Is he a big guy? I don't know. I
• 19:53
Speaker 1: just picture him. Was like he's lanky, he's like tough farmer,
• 19:56
Speaker 1: like really rough hands.
• 19:59
  Speaker 3: He's a tough guy.
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: He doesn't hire people very often. He's very particular about
• 20:07
  Speaker 3: his work.
• 20:07
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so he does all himself.
• 20:11
Speaker 3: And me and my brother. Yeah, he had you.
• 20:17
  Speaker 1: Hire.
• 20:17
Speaker 3: No, the family are great helpers because we do the
• 20:22
Speaker 3: work the way it's supposed to be done the way
• 20:24
Speaker 3: he wants it done. That became a big issue whenever
• 20:28
Speaker 3: he would hire help doing things halfway just done.
• 20:33
Speaker 1: See why I hired you? Yeah, you had tons of
• 20:36
Speaker 1: experience doing it the right way. Yeah right, I knew
• 20:40
Speaker 1: that was the deal. You were either going to be
• 20:42
Speaker 1: the daughter who never came outside and never helped because
• 20:45
Speaker 1: you were like not doing it, or you were going
• 20:48
Speaker 1: to be you were going to be the daughter who
• 20:51
Speaker 1: was just out there in the grind every day doing
• 20:53
Speaker 1: it because it's a tough job.
• 20:55
Speaker 3: Whether I wanted to or not, I love it for
• 20:59
  Speaker 3: the reason.
• 20:59
Speaker 1: That's I heard solved. I heard that about you.
• 21:04
Speaker 2: How about you, Ken? How about you? Do you have
• 21:06
Speaker 2: any bad hire stories?
• 21:07
Speaker 1: I get like forty just forty in.
• 21:10
Speaker 2: The chamber, and you know you got to you gotta
• 21:12
Speaker 2: spread them over the episode. So tell us top one, right, yeah,
• 21:15
Speaker 2: episode two? Tell us you're like worst one of all time,
• 21:19
  Speaker 2: worst one funny.
• 21:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I'll tell you. I'll just tell you a
• 21:22
  Speaker 1: quick one.
• 21:22
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 21:23
Speaker 1: So we did hire a guy and uh in sales
• 21:29
Speaker 1: one time, and he was you know, I had this big,
• 21:34
Speaker 1: long resume of excellence and was going to be awesome
• 21:39
Speaker 1: and like in day like day two, someone said came
• 21:45
Speaker 1: to me, said he smells like alcohol.
• 21:48
  Speaker 3: Oh.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: I was like, oh, okay, you know, maybe a celibratory drink.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: You got a new job. And then, uh, I think
• 21:57
Speaker 1: probably it was the next week when I was he
• 22:01
Speaker 1: came back. I was totally he came back late from lunch,
• 22:03
Speaker 1: like really late in his first week. Like, how do
• 22:06
Speaker 1: you get there in the first week and you like
• 22:09
Speaker 1: you're already coming back, you know, take it a three
• 22:11
Speaker 1: hour lunch. Yeah, and so, and he was coming through.
• 22:15
Speaker 1: I was walking through the parking lot and I walked
• 22:17
Speaker 1: past his car and I looked down and he was
• 22:20
Speaker 1: It's like two thirty in the afternoon, and he was
• 22:22
Speaker 1: completely passed out with a bottle of bourbon like in
• 22:28
Speaker 1: his lap where he had just been drinking it straight
• 22:31
Speaker 1: out of the bottle until he just completely passed out
• 22:33
  Speaker 1: went to sleep.
• 22:33
Speaker 2: Is that where he was a whole three hours just
• 22:35
Speaker 2: out in the parking.
• 22:35
Speaker 1: Lot just drinking. He would just go out there and drink.
• 22:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, twelve o'clock somewhere.
• 22:41
Speaker 1: That's no, it could. It could happen, but you know
• 22:45
Speaker 1: at work, so yes, I don't know. It was. It was, Uh,
• 22:49
Speaker 1: it was hard because you know when you when that happens, right,
• 22:54
Speaker 1: you want to just be like, hey, bro, you know
• 22:57
Speaker 1: you're fired. Yeah, But then you know, legal show up
• 23:00
Speaker 1: and and hr and they're like, well you can't you know, yeah,
• 23:05
Speaker 1: you can't fire him because you know he's been drinking. Yeah,
• 23:09
Speaker 1: Like you can't send him home, you can't tell him
• 23:10
Speaker 1: to leave you get do you, because now yeah, he
• 23:13
Speaker 1: can get stop and get hurt. And so you know
• 23:16
Speaker 1: we end up having to keep an eye on him
• 23:18
Speaker 1: and and then but you do it. You know, in
• 23:20
Speaker 1: that particular case, we offered him some help, try to
• 23:23
Speaker 1: get him into an eploye assistance program and.
• 23:25
Speaker 2: Like help just for that day or help.
• 23:29
  Speaker 1: Drinking.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: I was like, what's your hangover at the office plan?
• 23:33
Speaker 1: I don't know we even had to fire him. I
• 23:34
Speaker 1: think it was kind of a mutual decision, and he
• 23:36
Speaker 1: was pretty embarrassed. You know, let it get out of control.
• 23:40
Speaker 1: Zed they have in their car, can't start his car Breazer.
• 23:47
Speaker 1: We should have checked. Yeah, maybe that should be a
• 23:50
Speaker 1: part of the interview.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: You got this morning, a.
• 23:55
Speaker 1: Mission starter, a breathalyzer.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: It's like and Randall was like wanting us to take
• 24:02
Speaker 2: pictures of inside people's car to see if we could
• 24:03
Speaker 2: guess who was whose car. It's like, oh, they have
• 24:06
  Speaker 2: a breathless car.
• 24:11
Speaker 1: That was confidential information. Yeah, yeah, for real, all right.
• 24:18
Speaker 2: Like smoking marijuana, Like you know, I feel like we've
• 24:20
Speaker 2: had some people come through who I like to ask
• 24:23
  Speaker 2: you up front.
• 24:24
Speaker 1: I used to have one of the my Yeah, one
• 24:29
Speaker 1: of my best employees was swooked every single day, you know,
• 24:35
Speaker 1: which is crazy because we're you know, we're in the
• 24:39
Speaker 1: drug testing business too. But she was. She was a
• 24:44
Speaker 1: cancer survivor and she she began doing uh smoking, I
• 24:52
Speaker 1: guess to help with pain and with rehab and all that.
• 24:57
Speaker 1: And so she was a cancer survivor and she was
• 25:01
Speaker 1: incredibly thankful for it. So uh, I think after that show,
• 25:07
Speaker 1: she just continued to use it, you know, a bit.
• 25:11
Speaker 1: She I think she felt like it saved her life.
• 25:13
Speaker 1: So I can't argue with that.
• 25:16
Speaker 2: But for somebody else like that, that could have been
• 25:18
Speaker 2: a bad hire. But for you, yeah.
• 25:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, not anybody called anybody like hidden the blong in
• 25:26
Speaker 1: the parking ladder, in the bathroom or on.
• 25:29
Speaker 2: The team's call. Yeah, on the hopefully not on the
• 25:32
  Speaker 2: team's call.
• 25:33
Speaker 1: I don't know. I think my favorite one today was
• 25:37
Speaker 1: the on the phone on the team's call, nestled with
• 25:40
  Speaker 1: his cat.
• 25:41
Speaker 2: Yeah you know, I mean my cat's accidentally been in
• 25:46
  Speaker 2: a team's meeting before. I'm not gonna lie. You're in
• 25:50
Speaker 2: a company wide meeting.
• 25:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, you are. Yeah, you're on your
• 26:00
