Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: As if we don't have enough going on on Friday with the Big Nelly show and of course the birthday wheel, which is almost fifteen hundred dollars.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I do want to make sure you guys know this.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: We are going to be awarding our next Scott Nally Afterwork Social.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Now, if you were not, if you forgot about this or you weren't aware about this, so here's what it is.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: We've teamed up with Centertown Social, which is downtown Elmira, right, you know, right by the arena and over by Clemens Center.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Actually, you can walk out the door and almost trip into the Clemens Center.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: That's where it is.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: But it's gorgeous.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: It's been absolutely done upright.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, games, fun for everybody, right?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: The games are awesome.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: The duck bowling, they have everything for adults.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna take you out for a happy hour.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: We're gonna choose one office.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: You guys can go on our app right now, Wink106, Twin Tears Magic, or My Radio Jams, and then click on the afterwork social.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Put your office in there.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You're gonna put a couple things, you know, your name, your address, or your phone number, and then who do you work for?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: We're gonna pick an office and then we're gonna take you out.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Everybody gets a drink ticket, up to 10 drink tickets, and then we'll cover a few apps too.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So you get to hang out with us for happy hour, but any office is welcome.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, are we gonna pay for one office?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: But any office can come and hang out, or anyone can come and hang out.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: And keep in mind, well, yeah, it is open to everybody too, which we hope you guys will all come out and check it out, check it out.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Now, the day that this Scott Nally after work social will be Friday, September 18th.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: So you got a couple weeks.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: But we also need to- next Friday.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it is.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, but we is it me or is this calendar just killing you this year?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's it's busy.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Screwed up, right?
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's super busy.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, Labor Day was like four weeks later than normal.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: But uh, the reason I say this is we want to give your office a chance to be able to collect everybody.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: And some people have to make plans.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: You might have to get a sitter for a little bit, you might be in a situation where you just need to check and make sure that, you know, Helen isn't having a hernia surgery.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, who knows?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, Helen.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Helen.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: But either way, he keep this in mind.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: We say we'll cover up to 10.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: You could have an office of five, you could have an office of 20, that whichever.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's even just picking the department that's been doing really well, and you just want to award a certain department.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But yeah, if you have the office of five, everybody gets two drinks.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, there you go.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, we'll take care of your happy hour, but you gotta sign up first.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Speaking of restaurants, you have to share this story.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I am so torn on this.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, this restaurant charged a guest for a birthday celebration.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You know when they come out and sing to you when you're like, oh my gosh, it's Scott's birthday.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's never my birthday.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: But strangely, you've told them it is.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden they come to the table and they're like, This is your birthday song.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: It isn't very long.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Hey.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Did I tell you Dr.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Brown's office did that song?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yes, I did.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's okay.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so when they come out and do that, it's just a little fun little thing.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Well, this restaurant charged the guests$24 for the birthday song.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, not that song, but whatever their birthday song was.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: So then the guest tipped and wrote on the receipt, y'all charge me$24 for that birthday song?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Good question mark?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Here's your tip.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Zero dollars.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: This is the time I say yes, and here's why.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Is and maybe you'll disagree because I know you worked in the service industry, okay?
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: First of all, it took no time, and that's part of your training over at the roadhouse or wherever, the saddle comes over and you gotta grab five or six of the servers, and you've been trained the song and you do it.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, and then boom, you're right back to work.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: It it it what does it take?
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: A minute out of your life?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, right.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, you've embarrassed the crap out of me because I didn't want it.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: You did.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I sure did.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: I got I got stuck with it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So to say that that now, now hold on though.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: If they had like, well, no, that'd still be too expensive.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, if they brought out like little baby Sundays for the for the whole table, like if we had a table of six and they brought them out, I might see where there's a birthday charge to that.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: But if it's just the song and maybe the saddle, uh yeah.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: $24?
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: No,$24, no way.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: You're not getting a tip for that because you just you did what another restaurant did to you without you knowing it until it was too late.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Do you remember when you went to go do pickup?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, you went to car side, you were the one walking in to get it.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And they charged you what, 20% or something like that?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, and then I ended up tipping them on top of that because I didn't realize that they were charging me already.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: So you got a hell no from me on getting a tip for that.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: That's the one time I will say, I will not, uh, I will not put an extra tip in there because you are you're shadow charging me.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna call it shadow charging.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I love that phrase because it's very hidden.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's a great term.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: We should we should totally coin that.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Shadow charging.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: That's the problem.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And and and you know what?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Chili's did it to Allie.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: And there, I just called him out.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Stop doing it.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: This is true.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Now I'm gonna say, I you are gonna get a tip, but here's what's gonna happen.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna handle this a little differently.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go in and I'm gonna say, you're gonna take that birthday song charge off because I noticed it.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: You're hoping that I wouldn't notice it, but I noticed it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And I didn't want it.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: My my friend Allie over here wanted it.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: She wanted to embarrass me.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not paying for that because I didn't even want it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And it sucks because as the server, I might have given you great service.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: But what sucks is now you're not tipping me.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I've I've done my job.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: But I don't get a tip now because the stupid restaurant, whoever it is, wants to shadow charge.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm still giving a tip, but uh, we're not doing it yet.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: I am gonna You're getting the manager to hand or remove.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I'm asking for a manager.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Remove the birthday song.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And even say, uh it's either birthday song or no tip.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Do you care about your employees?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And actually, let's have them all there.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Not just going with your eyes.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Not all of them, but let's have the employee and the boss there at the same time.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Hey.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Because then the boss has to face the employee.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: And the the employee will know right away if you give a crap about them.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, Alan, you've just hit the home run on this.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: All right, winner there.
